Spencer Newarth
It's a media podcast.
Randall
Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newarth and today we're joined by Randall, Corey, Corrine, Tressa, Colin, Anthony and Marge. This is a ten round quiz show with questions from meat eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking. And there is a prize. Meat eater will donate $500 to the Conservation organization of the winner's choosing. And for the stat of the week. This week we're looking at at the average Meat Eater Turtle scores of the crew compared to all other players. Meat Eater Turtle is a new game you can play on our website right now. It's like Wordle but better. Players get six tries to solve a five letter word from the outdoors with new games dropping every Monday. For our very first turtle, I asked the crew to play and send me their score. On average, it took them 4 minutes and 19 seconds to solve with 3.5 tries. For our listeners, it took them an average of 3 minutes and 17 seconds to solve with 3.2 tries. So Pat yourself on the back, listeners. You are better at Meat Eater Turtle than Steve and Randall and Giannis and Mark.
Corey
Well, that's an average of all of us, right?
Randall
An average. I'll tell you who, who brought the average up and down.
Corey
Okay, good, please.
Randall
Randall and Corey. Were you. You two were the best. You did about two minutes flat. Almost. Now, Mark Kenyon, he's going to be here later this week. I'm sorry to tattle on Mark. He was over eight minutes.
Corrine
Wow.
Corey
Did he get a phone call?
Randall
I don't know.
Tressa
He phoned a friend.
Randall
That's he. He should have. Phil. Phil was in the four minutes but he did his during a podcast one day. I know that because then I I then, like, got the slack message from him of his score about one hour into a regular Meat Eater podcast.
Corrine
Well, I also got it in three tries. Just want to throw that out.
Tressa
Okay, I got the second one in 23 seconds on three tries.
Colin
Hot take.
Tressa
So we might bring the average up.
Randall
Yeah, there's all, all sorts of scores available from Meat Eater, Turtle head, over to themeedeater.com games if you want to see if you're smarter than the crew too. All right, here's our infrequently asked question segment. If you have a trivia related question for our crew, send it to triviator.com with the subject line IFAQ. Leland Hart says can he. Can you win listener question of the week twice? Yes, you can, Leland. It has happened twice, actually, where we. I've picked the same person for the listener question of the week. Leland is determined. He writes in weekly with questions. I bet it's gonna happen for you someday, Leland. Keep it up. All right, instead of housekeeping today, let's talk about how this episode is going to be different. Because there's no Brody or Steve or Giannis or Cal to be Randall's foil, we are going to make him compete against everyone else in the room. That's right, it's Randall Vers. Six Jabronis.
Corey
How are we doing this?
Randall
Well, please explain. Here's what we'll do. After I read a question, we'll give Randall a moment to come up with his answer.
Corey
Oh, we're doing this.
Randall
Then he'll put his whiteboard down and his answer will be locked in. After that, our Jabronis will have a chance to discuss the question and then their captain will write down their answers. So before we get started, our other six players need to elect captain Jabroni. Who's it going to be? We've got Corey, Corinne, Colin, Anthony, Tressa, and Marge. I think four people have already pointed at Marge.
Anthony
Marge, it's your hat.
Colin
It's the jumpsuit.
Randall
Marge, can you be the captain Jabroni? You got it. Okay, you have to talk into the mic to be the captain Jabroni. Marge, it is an honor. Randall, how do you feel about this?
Corey
I thought we were going to do the thing where you give everybody else multiple choice, so I feel better about that.
Randall
Trying a new one, but it's basically.
Corey
Yeah, I guess we'll see. I'm not sure.
Randall
Six. Six Jabroni. Brains.
Anthony
Boy.
Randall
Randall, supercomputer.
Corey
And I'll point out I got here. I usually like to get here a little early and just make my space. I was the last one here and I'm still a little, you know, unsettled by the 19th street traffic.
Randall
So, yeah, he got a second tier chair. Somebody took your spot in his unusual spot.
Corey
But I brought my lucky comb with me today.
Marge
And your lucky board is this.
Randall
Yay.
Tressa
Suck it, Randall.
Randall
Jabronis, how do you feel about your chances of collectively coming up with enough right answers to beat Randall?
Giannis
We'll beat him.
Randall
You can do it.
Anthony
Okay, yeah, I'll duck down and you guys just push him over.
Corey
Are these just normal questions?
Randall
It's just a normal round of trivia, all right? And if you're playing along at home, you should go ahead and gang up on Randall with whoever you're listening to. We want him to lose today, damn it. Now, the Shelby index for today's game is a four. So our winner should get eight correct answers. With that, we're onto the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil. Look, I need to know what I stand to win. Everything. How's that?
Steve Rinella
Just tend to win everything.
Anthony
Game on, suckers.
Randall
So a reminder of how this will work. Randall will write down his answer first. Once he is good, he will set his whiteboard face down. And then you other six will talk out loud into the microphones about what you think the correct answer is before Marge writes down the Jabroni answer.
Anthony
How fun.
Randall
Question 1. The topic is conservation will be multiple choices. Randall, you're in a no lose situation.
Corey
I just thought, yeah, if you lose.
Randall
You'Re like, well, of course you were going against six other people, but if you win, that would be fun. What a feather in your cat.
Corey
I got, I got a couple new requests for trivia donations.
Randall
Okay.
Corey
Over the weekend. So I was kind of not to count my chickens before they hatch, but I was looking forward to making a donation today.
Randall
Question 1. The topic is conservation. This will be multiple choice. Which of these Boone and Crockett World records came from Canada? Is it bighorn sheep, non typical whitetail pronghorn or Canada moose? Which of these Boone and Crockett world records came from Canada? Your four choices. Bighorn sheep, non typical whitetail pronghorn or Canada moose.
Corey
Oh boy.
Randall
Everyone looking at Randall. See, he's done. Are any of our jabronis confident?
Marge
Nope.
Randall
No. Okay, good idea.
Anthony
I got it narrowed down to two.
Randall
Randall, do you have your answer locked in?
Corey
I do.
Randall
Okay, set that whiteboard down. He is not going to change his answer. Jabronis, go ahead and discuss what you think it could be.
Anthony
Well, bighorn sheep is either Montana Or North Dakota.
Colin
The only place you can get them is southern Alberta. That would be a bighorn, right? In Canada, perhaps.
Giannis
Yeah.
Anthony
Pronghorn would be New Mexico.
Giannis
Yeah, I mean, I think it's got to be non typical whitetail.
Tressa
That's where my eyes.
Anthony
But Canada moose.
Randall
I mean, four choices.
Anthony
Is he giving it away?
Randall
Which of these Boone and Crockett world records came from Canada moose? Bighorn sheep. What's a Canada non typical whitetail?
Anthony
I think it's non typical.
Randall
Yeah, it's gotta be the Canada moose.
Colin
Saskatchewan, Canadian moose would only be Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, that you could get them down here.
Anthony
Interesting.
Colin
Can I. Boone and Crockett?
Corey
Can I chime in?
Randall
Yes, you would like to chime in. Sure. Maybe it's earnest. Maybe he's trying to sabotage.
Corey
No, I mean, because it also extends out like moose killed in Region 6 of Montana, Canada moose, North Dakota, pretty much anywhere east of Highway 1 91. Just throwing that out there.
Marge
Randall knows a lot.
Colin
You're saying Region 6 in Montana is not shyrus. Yes, I'm gonna check that after this.
Randall
Which of these world records came. I don't believe in bighorn sheep. Non typical whitetail. Pronghorn Canada moose. Marge, do you have an answer? Do you want to get any final feedback?
Tressa
Whitetail. Another question. How do you spell dubroni?
Randall
J, A, B, R, O, N, I. Oh, okay.
Tressa
Cool. There we go.
Randall
Okay, Marge, you have your answer. Randall, go ahead and reveal your answer. We have the jabroni saying non typical whitetail. And we have Randall. What's your say, Randall? Randall saying non typical whitetail. The correct answer is Canada moose.
Colin
It was the obvious one.
Corey
Got it right, old Mr. I don't do trick questions.
Randall
The world record bighorn sheep is from Montana. The world record pronghorn is from New Mexico. And the world record non typical whitetail is from Missouri. The world record Canada moose was killed by a Pennsylvania man in British Columbia in 1980. It was a guided hunt and the first moose the man had ever seen in his entire life. Question two.
Colin
Okay, that was a trick question.
Randall
The topic is cooking zero to zero. This next great question is via Patrick John Riley. The Spruce eats defines this nine letter word as a fruit preserve. That's quote, made by boiling citrus, water and sugar together, including the peel. And Randall already has his answer locked in. So, jabronis, go ahead and discuss what you think it could be. Nine letter word. It's a fruit preserve defined as it's made by boiling citrus water and sugar together, including the peel. Grin. You can talk out loud. Randall's got his answer locked in.
Marge
Oh, oh, sorry I missed that.
Randall
What do you think?
Marge
It's nine words.
Anthony
Marmalade.
Marge
Anybody think anything else? There's like lemon curd, but I didn't count the number.
Anthony
You know, what's the difference between jelly and jam? Anybody know? Just kidding. We'll save that forever.
Randall
The Spruce Eats defines this nine letter word as a fruit preserve that's made by boiling citrus water and sugar together, including the peeled.
Tressa
That's what I was gonna. That's what I had.
Giannis
Yeah.
Randall
Okay, you have your answer. Then, Marge, go ahead and reveal your answers. Both of them say marmalade, and they both got it right.
Tressa
Nice.
Randall
The correct answer is marmalade. Marmalade typically has a firmer texture than other fruit preserves, jellies, or jams. This is because the citrus rind contains a ton of pectin, which thickens and stabilizes foods. April Vokey likes to serve marmalade with her grilled fish liver. Skew viewers a recipe you can get on Theme Eater.com. question 3. The topic is hunting. The Fieldmaster, Wingmaster and Express are models of this shotgun. The Fieldmaster, Wingmaster & Express are models of this shotgun. Randall has his whiteboard down already. So jabronis, discuss out loud what the answer might be.
Anthony
Damn.
Marge
No idea.
Randall
The Fieldmaster Wingman.
Giannis
Tony, this is you.
Colin
How is it me?
Giannis
You're the shotgun guy.
Corey
Because you're sitting in my chair. That's where all the right answers come from.
Randall
Randall is very confident the jabronis are going to fall behind if they don't come up with a good answer here.
Giannis
Randall, do you have one of these guns?
Corey
Can't answer that. I will say that. Not like I know you're my shotgun that I just had at the gunsmith for four months now. I took it out and the trigger. One of the triggers still doesn't work. It's disappointing.
Randall
So back to the gunsmith.
Corey
Disappointing.
Anthony
Was it Remington 870?
Colin
That's kind of what I was thinking.
Corey
No, it's a. It's a side by side 10 gauge.
Randall
Okay. The Fieldmaster, Wingmaster and Express are models of this shotgun.
Corey
And the tough thing is the first barrel patterned. Great. I was super excited. And then I tried to pull that second trigger and nothing.
Randall
Okay.
Colin
I think it's 870.
Anthony
Yeah, just right.
Tressa
870.
Anthony
That would be my guess too.
Colin
Remington 870.
Anthony
Remington 870.
Randall
It's the only answer.
Colin
Or is it a Browning or something?
Anthony
Could be Browning.
Giannis
Yeah, I think it's Browning, but I have no Idea.
Colin
Paper, scissors.
Corey
Shoot.
Colin
But what's the model of Browning?
Tressa
Yeah, I think so.
Giannis
Well, yeah, those Browning Field Master.
Anthony
Is that a thing or model?
Colin
Is it a brand or is it a shotgun?
Anthony
Type of shotgun.
Giannis
The only Browning is too vague.
Corey
The one on the screen.
Randall
It would be like. It would be like if the answer had to be a Ford F150.
Anthony
Yeah, yeah, Browning's pretty vague.
Randall
The Fieldmaster, Wingmaster and Express models of.
Colin
This brown in A five. No.
Randall
Grand Tressimar. Jenny. Input.
Tressa
No.
Randall
Okay.
Giannis
I thought it was a Remington 870. I didn't know if they made other.
Tressa
I'm the secretary. Spencer.
Randall
Oh, that's a good way to look at it.
Corrine
I believe the term was Captain Marge, give yourself a demotion.
Randall
So Anthony, Corey and Colin. What do you boys think it is?
Colin
I know.
Giannis
Randall, what do you think?
Corey
I don't like shotguns. So.
Anthony
Yeah, same.
Corey
I was actually just thinking about the cocktails I had over the weekend at Tiki Bar.
Tressa
Oh, where?
Corrine
I'll join in on that conversation.
Corey
Holly Pelle.
Tressa
I don't even know where that is.
Corey
It's a two hour wait.
Randall
Two hour wait?
Tressa
In town?
Corey
No, Portland.
Colin
Portland 870.
Corrine
That was the basketball game.
Colin
But it might be a Browning.
Randall
Okay, Marge, do you have your answer?
Tressa
Is that spelled right? Yep.
Randall
Randall, go ahead.
Corey
Do I need to add the make?
Randall
Go ahead and reveal your answer.
Anthony
Ding. Went ding.
Randall
We have Randall and the jabronis saying the Remington 870. They got it. The correct answer is the Remington 870.
Corey
Should have gone with the Browning A5.
Randall
The Remington 870 has been America's best selling shotgun since the 1980s. The pump gun has been used by more than 13 million hunters, competitive shooters and law enforcement officers. Other 870 models include the Super Slug Marine Magnum and Super Magnum Turkey. Question 4. The jabronis are keeping up. So far, barely. The topic is wildlife. This is North America's most widespread species of plover, which is named after its distinctive shrill call. Oh my God.
Tressa
I know this one.
Marge
I don't even know what a plover is.
Tressa
Yes, you do.
Randall
This is North America's most widespread species of plover. Okay, Marge is handing out some hints to Randall, who has put Mark whiteboard. This is North America's most widespread species of plover, which is named after its distinctive shrill call.
Anthony
Man, good question.
Randall
Do you know this, Corey?
Anthony
I don't.
Randall
Okay.
Anthony
Not a clue.
Colin
Okay, this is kind of an easy one.
Randall
Oh, wow.
Anthony
Get under his skin.
Marge
I still have no idea what a plover.
Randall
Randall is still thinking.
Anthony
Marge you got it.
Tressa
No, I'm drawing you a picture.
Randall
You know what? That could be helpful, Marge. If you show your other 5 jabronis what a plover looks like, maybe they'll be inspired.
Tressa
I just don't remember the name.
Randall
This is question four. The topic is wildlife. This is North America's most widespread species of plover, which is named after its distinctive shrill call. Randall. Still thinking.
Corey
Yeah. I don't like this.
Anthony
Huh?
Randall
He's gotten two out of three so far. Marge, I could pass your whiteboard around to show our other jabronis. We don't want to show Randall, though.
Anthony
Oh, that'd be helpful.
Randall
So you guys could see what Marge has drawn here. She's trying to show you what a plover.
Colin
That's pretty good.
Corrine
That is really good.
Giannis
Super helpful.
Anthony
What is that?
Randall
Randall still thinking.
Corey
Yeah.
Randall
Flash that to Anthony now. Do not look, Randall. Okay.
Anthony
That's a great drawing. I'm still trying to figure out what it is.
Randall
North America's most widespread species of plover, which is named after its distinctive shrill call. Randall, do you have an answer?
Corey
Oh, no. You know, and I think. I think I'm probably just gonna.
Randall
Just gonna give up.
Corey
Oh, yeah.
Randall
Okay. He's put the whiteboard down. He's waved the white flag. There is no answer on his board. Jabronis. What do you think it might be?
Colin
Show the board.
Tressa
Well, it's a. It's a shore bird.
Anthony
Okay.
Tressa
Migrate here. No, they're small. They're like this big, but they have like long beaks.
Anthony
Snipe.
Tressa
It's like a similar but smaller.
Colin
Like a woodcock.
Anthony
Oh, yeah.
Tressa
Kind of like a woodcock, but smaller and taller. It's not. And they're also endangered species. But I don't remember.
Randall
North America's most widespread species of plover, which is named.
Colin
They're not endangered. If it's widespread, there are species of cancer.
Corrine
Is that allowed?
Randall
Whoa, whoa. We're not gonna count. Randall's answer.
Corrine
Oh, gotcha.
Randall
Did you come up with an answer?
Corey
No. This is the word I was thinking of. This is the bird I was thinking of, but I didn't want to write it down because I thought it might be foolish. Okay, but still might be foolish.
Randall
You've heard the jabronis discuss a little bit.
Anthony
What about a killdeer? You see those all over the nation.
Colin
Anybody love that answer?
Randall
This is North America's most widespread species of clover, which is named after its distinctive shrill call.
Anthony
See him on the Yellowstone all the time fishing. And they do have a high pitched shrill.
Colin
Kill a Deer. Oh, man.
Anthony
Okay, we're all done.
Randall
Do you have your answer, Secretary Marge? Okay, Randall, go ahead and reveal your answer. This doesn't count. He says a whippoorwill or curlew and our jabronis say kill deer. The correct answer is kill deer.
Giannis
Just suck it, Randall.
Anthony
Photo was perfect.
Corey
Hear that Lonesome ripper, Will? He sounds too blue to fly.
Randall
Oh, I thought. I thought you were doing a Randy Travis song.
Tressa
A curlew has a long and it goes up.
Corey
I'm so lonesome I could cry.
Randall
That was all about Marge's drawing. And then Corey remembering that he seen Killdeer on the Yellowstone. Killdeer found from Alaska to South America. Their far carrying call. Sounds like they're saying kill deer. Play the clip, Phil.
Anthony
Very annoying.
Corrine
Should I just put this on a loop for the rest of the show?
Tressa
Yes. I'm going to change my ringtone to that.
Randall
That is a kill deer.
Corey
It's more pleasant than normal most of the time.
Randall
Probably every. Everyone who's listening to this show has heard them before. All right, question five. The topic is fishing. SPF stands for blank blank factor. I mean, SPF stands for blank blank factor. Randall's whiteboard is down. So what do you think it is? Jabronis.
Colin
Sun protection Protection.
Tressa
I don't think that that's right.
Anthony
Solar protection.
Colin
Oh, solar.
Randall
SPF stands for blank blank factor. The topic is fishing Prevention.
Corey
Oh, the topic is skin care.
Corrine
In the realm of skin care, man.
Anthony
I mean, that's all I got.
Tressa
Yeah, we like this.
Colin
What do you got?
Tressa
Sun protection.
Colin
Sun or solar?
Randall
Solar.
Tressa
I have sun.
Anthony
Same. Same.
Marge
One'S like more scientific, but also spf. If it is, that doesn't seem too scientific.
Tressa
Sun protection factor. Solar protection.
Randall
Right.
Giannis
It's sloppier.
Randall
So he could go either way.
Tressa
I mean, is that not.
Randall
What does that say? That says the word sun. Is that your answer, Marge?
Anthony
Yeah.
Tressa
Okay. It's our answer.
Randall
Okay. The jabroni say sun protection. Randall says sun protection. That's correct.
Colin
Nice.
Randall
Sun protection factor. SPF is a measurement of how well a sunscreen protects your skin from UVB rays. The higher the spf, the longer their protection will last. As an example, if the current conditions allow you to spend 10 minutes in sunlight without burning, then a lotion of SPF 30 will multiply the protection time by 30. That would mean you've increased your time from 10 minutes to 300 minutes without getting burnt. Phil, we're halfway through the game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update.
Corrine
Well, we've got the Jabronis ahead by one point with four. Randall has three. It's still anybody's game. Now I'm thinking is the plural of jabroni. Jabroni. Oh, I don't know.
Randall
I, I looked it up.
Corrine
I think it could work either way.
Randall
And it's spelled just like that, Phil. It's. It has an S at the end. Well, that's no fault not be wrong either. If you just said, now are you.
Anthony
Finding that, are you finding that word in the urban dictionary?
Randall
I'll get you a real definition after this. We'll see if, like, Merriam Webster recognizes it or not.
Corey
I'm happy to do this, I really am. But if we do repeat this little circus, I'd just like to request that there aren't any questions about birds. Oh, I feel like birds are weak spotting.
Randall
All right.
Tressa
It's good to know more questions about birds.
Corey
Swans kill deer.
Randall
Turkeys.
Steve Rinella
I'm telling you, man, there's nothing quite like. It gives me chubby just thinking about it. You hit the call and way off in the distance, a tom fires back. You work a man, watching his body language shift from cautious to committed. Then that moment, the one every turkey hunter dreams about all winter, that gobbler locks eyes on your decoy and comes running in. And if you're using the right decoy, you don't need to then settle for a 40 yard nervous shot. Because with the right decoy, you can get that bird in your lap, putting on a wild, aggressive turkey show. I mean, I'm talking where he's fighting the decoy. I've had him sitting there trying to mate with the decoy. It's the best thing in the world. But to pull it off, you need realism like you need decoys that don't just fool turkeys at a distance. You want a decoy that fools him when he's up there at point blank range, beating the snot out of it. That is why die hard turkey hunters insist on Dave Smith decoys. Their unmatched realism fools even the wariest of toms into thinking they're staring and fighting a real bird. And unlike inflatable decoys that crumble when shot, DSDs are built tough. They last season after season, even if you screw up and put a little tss into one of them. To top it all off, every DSD turkey decoy is made right here in the good old US of A. Made in America. Check out the full lineup@davesmithdecoys.com and take your turkey hunts to the next level.
Randall
Question 6. The topic is woodsmanship. Barnes and Noble declared this Henry David Thoreau's quote, most influential book.
Anthony
Oh, wow.
Randall
The topic is woodsmanship. Barnes and Noble declared this Henry David Thoreau's most influential book. Randall has put his whiteboard down. So what do you think it is?
Anthony
Jabronis is Of Mice and men.
Randall
Henry David.
Corey
No.
Steve Rinella
No.
Anthony
Okay, thank you. That's all I got, isn't it?
Colin
Walled in pond.
Giannis
I was gonna say the hatchet.
Corrine
You got killed here to retire until leave.
Randall
I got other stuff to do.
Tressa
I'm like, yeah, seven out of 10, sure.
Corey
Or is it a trick question? Is it on civil disobedience? Henry David Thoreau.
Giannis
I'm good with it.
Randall
Barnes and Noble declares if I get it wrong.
Colin
Wait, is that the name of the book though?
Randall
Most influential.
Colin
Okay, that's it then.
Anthony
What does that say?
Tressa
Walden.
Anthony
Walden.
Randall
Jabronis. Are you ready?
Marge
Go for it.
Tressa
Yes.
Randall
Okay, Randall, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Jabroni saying Walden. We have Randall saying on Walden Pond.
Colin
I told you, Walden Pond.
Randall
No, the correct answer. Pond is Walden. So the Jabronis got that one right. While Randall included.
Colin
Never listen to me on a book I can't even read.
Tressa
This is in our bathroom at our house.
Randall
Okay, good on you, Marge. Henry David Thoreau wrote Walden in 1854. The book is about his experience living in the cabin built near Walden Pond in Massachusetts. Steve Rell is not a fan though, famously calling thorough quote a candy ass.
Corrine
Which inspired an op ed from actor Nick Offerman.
Randall
I wasn't sure if we would say that or not, but yeah, yeah. He wrote for Outside magazine that he was listening to a podcast while sitting in rush hour traffic in LA and heard some bully call Henry David Thoreau a candy ass. That's what Phil's referring to. Question 7. The topic is public lands. This is our listener question of the week, which was won by Joel Jansen presenting this great question. Joel is going to get a board game signed by the crew. If you want a chance to win the listener question of the week, then send your question to Trivia atthemeat eater.com. name one of the two national parks that the Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes through.
Anthony
Blue Ridge.
Randall
Oh.
Anthony
Oh, my God.
Randall
I'm sorry.
Steve Rinella
That's.
Anthony
I'd write that one.
Randall
Randall still has a whiteboard in his hands. Name one of the two national parks.
Colin
It's a competition.
Giannis
Sorry, we got him by two points.
Anthony
Anywhere else, he needs all the help he can guess.
Randall
Okay, Randall has put his whiteboard down.
Colin
I was gonna say Smoky Mountain.
Giannis
If he wants to show off his.
Corey
Blue is blue ridges.
Tressa
The Blue Ridge Park.
Randall
No clue.
Anthony
I'm a Montana.
Tressa
I was gonna say it's Rocky Mountain, but I think Smokey.
Colin
No, it's not Rocky Mountain.
Anthony
Smoky Mountain.
Colin
Smoky Mountain.
Giannis
Yeah, Smokey.
Tressa
Because it's in North Carolina.
Randall
Name one of the two national parks that the Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes.
Anthony
Oh, we just have to name one of them. Oh, crap.
Colin
Is the Appalachian National Scenic Trail the same as just the Appalachian Trail?
Randall
Not going to give you any hints.
Anthony
Yeah, I believe so.
Randall
Jabronis, are you ready?
Colin
What are you putting. Whoa. This is a lot on me here.
Randall
Okay. I know.
Corey
It's.
Tressa
I'm, like, right with you.
Giannis
Okay. I feel pretty confident.
Tressa
Okay.
Randall
The jabronis say Smoky Mountain national park, and Randall says Great Smoky Mountain.
Giannis
Same, same.
Corrine
I don't know.
Corey
I don't know. Have you guys been to Canyon National.
Randall
Park, Our Shenandoah national park, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park?
Corrine
I don't think Jabronis get it.
Randall
We didn't give it to Randall for the. The on Walden Pond, so I don't think we should give it to the Gibronis for leaving out great language.
Corey
Yep.
Giannis
Well, he added too many words and we just left out one. If you typed in Smoky Mountains, but.
Randall
It'S called the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Colin
All right, guys, if you type in.
Corey
Canyon national park, it'll either bring up canyon lands or. Yeah, or Kings Canyon, I guess.
Randall
Yeah, but is there. Is there another Smoky Mountain to keep this interesting? We're not going to give it to the Jabronis. They didn't include.
Anthony
That's one way to do it.
Colin
Sorry, guys. I'll take that one.
Corey
I will say on a previous game of trivia, you did give it to the Smoky Mountain national park, and I was upset then because it was the greatest national park for fishing. That's one of the questions. And no one else said great except for me.
Randall
Look at the memory on this guy. Question 8. The topic is fishing. And this next great question is via Patrick Brown. This musician was, quote, catching walleye from the dock in their 2007 song All Summer Long.
Colin
I know it.
Tressa
Okay, good.
Randall
Randall has put his board down. Colin and Anthony say Kid Rock, this musician was catching walleye from the dock in their 2007 song All Summer Long.
Corey
It's a horrible question. It's a great game like this.
Colin
Are you going to play it?
Corrine
It's very catchy for a bunch of pedestrians.
Corey
I just think I. Yeah, I would have saved this one for a normal game of trivia.
Randall
What would have happened then.
Corey
Well, then everybody would get it. Except for maybe one person.
Randall
Oh, who? Brody?
Steve Rinella
I don't know.
Corey
I don't know who it is. But in a game like this, this is a very difficult question for me to.
Randall
Okay.
Corey
Compete with Corinne.
Randall
Are you entertained?
Marge
I think this is great. And apologies for not contributing in almost any way.
Corey
I went out of my way to be here.
Colin
Yeah. Marmalade. I wouldn't have got that.
Randall
Oh, there you go.
Marge
That's why I'm never on trivia.
Randall
Okay.
Corrine
Back in her chair for the audio listeners. Corinne's been leaning back in her chair without headphones on. I. I had to remind her to pull her microphone towards her. It was just in the middle of the table.
Randall
She's just.
Corrine
She's just taking an hour off.
Randall
You can go back to eating your lunch, Corinne, if you'd like. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We've got the Jabroni saying Kid Rock.
Corrine
Nice illustration.
Randall
And Randall saying Kid Rock. The correct answer is Kid Rock. The song is a mashup of three other songs, Night Moves, Sweet Home Alabama, and Werewolves of London. It's about the summer of 1989 in northern Michigan where Kid Rock was smoking funny things in sipping whiskey out the bottle. It was the biggest solo hit of his career, reaching number one in seven countries.
Anthony
More than Bawa to ba.
Randall
Huh? Wow.
Corey
Or American Badass.
Colin
Yeah. Couple of classic.
Randall
Bill, we have two questions left. Give us a scoreboard update here.
Corrine
We are still with a one point lead. The Jabroni have six. Randall has five.
Randall
Question nine. The topic is hunting. This next great question is via Evan Reindel. Of the six New England states, which one has the highest population of turkeys?
Corey
Wow.
Randall
Of the six New England states, which one has the highest population of turkeys? Yeah, Randall is listing. I think what he thinks are the six New England.
Colin
I think I know this one too.
Giannis
I would say Georgia.
Randall
Of the six New England states, which one has the highest population of turkeys?
Tressa
Hawaii. It's always Puerto Rico.
Randall
This is question.
Colin
It is always Alaska.
Randall
Randall, are you locked in?
Tressa
I am.
Randall
Okay, bronies, go ahead and discuss.
Colin
I think the answer is Maine. Pennsylvania is not a New England state.
Corey
Unfortunately, Corey did not like that.
Anthony
Yeah, you might be right about so.
Colin
Much larger than the other states. And there's a lot of turkeys there.
Giannis
Neck of the woods.
Randall
Which one has the highest population?
Colin
Definitely Maine.
Tressa
Okay.
Anthony
Yeah, sounds great to me.
Randall
Is that your answer, Jabronis? Randall, go ahead and reveal your answer. We have the Jabroni saying Maine and Randall saying Massachusetts. The correct answer Is Maine giving the Jabronis the victory? With one question to go. These numbers are via NWTF. According to them, Maine has 70,000 turkeys. Vermont and New Hampshire have 45,000, Massachusetts has 35,000, Connecticut has 32,500 and Rhode island has 4000. Maine also harvests the most turkeys of any New England state. So.
Tressa
Pas, I didn't know that.
Randall
Not a New England state. Randall, do you have any. Any thoughts on that one?
Corey
No, I just, I just feel like Maine. I didn't want to say Maine because it's so much bigger than everything. Like it would just be too obvious. It's too obviously the right answer. And so I. This is one of those things where, you know, in hindsight I should have just gone with what anybody would say. Right?
Randall
Our jabronis have a two point lead going into the final question. Question 10. The topic is natural history. Native tribes referred to this month's full moon as the breaking ice moon, frog moon, moon, when geese lay eggs and planting moon. The topic is natural history. Native tribes referred to this month's full moon as the breaking ice moon, frog moon, moon, when geese lay eggs and planting moon. Randall has his answer locked in. Jabronis. What do you think?
Tressa
It could be April.
Anthony
It's gotta be in the spring. Spring, March or April.
Randall
I think April, breaking ice moon, frogmoon.
Anthony
Breaking ice lay eggs, which wasn't that last night or the night before. Anybody notice?
Tressa
I mean, March is still pretty frozen, at least in Minnesota where there's ice.
Corey
I actually think we should scrap this episode because I think one of the great joys of our audience is playing along at home and I think that this ruins it for them.
Randall
They're welcome to pause it.
Corrine
Interesting.
Corey
But if they're driving, it's incredibly dangerous.
Giannis
The passenger is running it.
Corey
A lot of us fly solo, you.
Corrine
Know, Randall, I agree with you. Unfortunately, this episode airs in about 14 hours from now.
Corey
How hard would it be to just dust off some new questions? Questions?
Randall
Yeah, Jabronis, do you have your answer?
Colin
Would you put April?
Randall
Yeah. Thank you.
Colin
We are in the month of April. It'd be fitting.
Randall
Okay. The bronies say April and Randall says April. Oh, the correct answer is April. Everybody got it. Other Native American names for April's full moon include sugar, bushing moon, snowshoe, breaking moon, loon moon, sucker moon, and moon. When streams are again navigable. April's full moon was on April 12. It's collectively referred to as the pink moon because of the blooming of pink flowers in April. So jabronis where are you going to send that $500? The six of you need to come to a decision.
Giannis
I thought we all got $500.
Anthony
I mean, I feel kind of bad. Should we let Randall pick?
Corey
No, I don't want to do that. Don't give me your charity.
Colin
You got all those requests over the weekend.
Anthony
Yeah, what's that?
Tressa
I mean, or.
Randall
Or the jabronis who never get to pick.
Corey
Yeah.
Giannis
Or we could do wtf since it's turkey season.
Corey
Have fun with this charader.
Colin
We should do NWTF.
Randall
There we go.
Corey
I thought.
Anthony
Agreed.
Randall
NWTF. Is that what Captain Jabroni goes with? NWTF is getting $500 from Anthony, Corey, Corinne, Colin, Tressa, and Marge. Well done, Jabronis.
Corey
I almost feel like I gave it to NWTF because I wasn't going to give it 10. WTF. And since they won, they're giving it now, so ultimately I'd like to think that I had some part in this.
Colin
Thanks, Randall.
Tressa
Thanks, Randall.
Randall
Thank you, Randall.
Corey
I'm actually, I'm not a. I'm not a monster. I'm just playing a character.
Randall
Randall, would you do. Would you do this again?
Corey
Sure. It's funny.
Randall
Gone six Gibroni.
Corey
Yeah, I'd be happy to do it.
Randall
Spencer, what do you think the tipping point in numbers is? Is for you where it's like, yeah, that's too many jabronis for me to wrestle in trivia.
Corey
I mean, there's. There's six of them here.
Randall
Uhhuh. So two point victory. It's kind of that.
Corey
Yeah. Unwen pond really got me. I don't know where I got that.
Tressa
Yeah, I don't.
Corey
If we had time, I'd google it.
Tressa
It's just walled.
Corey
Yeah.
Anthony
Yeah.
Randall
Two point victory for our japon.
Corey
Maybe a listener will write in and let me know where I went wrong.
Tressa
I mean, there's a movie on Golden Pond.
Corey
Am I thinking of that?
Randall
And they have famous trout in that.
Tressa
Movie and they catch a loon and it's so sad.
Randall
Oh, okay.
Corey
Well, all right.
Randall
Well done, jabronis. Better luck next time, Randall. Join us next week on more Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins.
Spencer Newarth
Yeah. Spencer from South Dakota, he's the host. Using those smooth, mellow tones, he lays them questions down, down. And he likes taking those two and three year old bucks. And he's an avid amateur rock hound.
Steve Rinella
I'm telling you, man, there's nothing quite like. It gives me chubby just thinking about it. You hit the call and way off in the distance, a tom fires back. You work a man, watching his body language shift from cautious to committed. Then that moment, the one every turkey hunter dreams about all winter. Zach Gobbler locks eyes on your decoy and comes running in. And if you're using the right decoy, you don't need to then settle for a 40 yard nervous shot. Because with the right decoy, you can get that bird in your lap. Putting on a wild, aggressive turkey show.
