Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newharth and today we're joined by Giannis, Brody, Randall, Max, Laura, Corey and Nate. This is a 10 round quiz show with questions from meat eaters. Four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking. And there's a prize. Meat eater will donate $500 to the Conservation organ of the winner's choosing. For the last few stats of the week, we looked at player performance by category in 2025. As a reminder, Giannis leads in hunting where he gets 80% of questions correct. Brody leads in fishing where he gets 72% of questions correct. This week we'll look at conservation. Any guesses as to who leads the conservation category?
Nate
Randall Brody.
Spencer Newharth
Randall. Unanimous. Randall. And Randall is Brody. Okay, why would you say that?
Brody
Because you win all the categories.
Max
Here are the results.
Yanni
Not hunting.
Spencer Newharth
Steve is the fifth best, getting 53% of questions correct. Then it's Nate at 56%. Nate, aren't you proud of that suck? 3% better than Steve. Giannis at 58%, Brody at 67% and Randall at 72%. Wow.
Brody
Holy cow.
Nate
That's a gap pretty good.
Spencer Newharth
Randall is the most consistent player across categories with his worst category being 68% and his best beat being 72. How about that?
Brody
You'd think I'd win more games. Then what's your worst category?
Spencer Newharth
Must have been fishing. Fishing 68.
Nate
Does that mean you have like a not even dispersion of categories in the average game?
Spencer Newharth
Cooking has the least representation in the game.
Nate
So like Brody's.
Spencer Newharth
Fishing excellence outweighs hunting, fishing, conservation are all very equal. Those all have about the same size pool of questions. And then cooking, you know, is probably 40%.
Yanni
I, I would like to request more cooking questions, Spencer, because I second I am better at cooking.
Brody
We already used all the good cooking ones. Let's just stick to the basic.
Nate
I have a great cooking one in
Spencer Newharth
the docket this week we have a foraging and a cooking. So you'll have a chance two different spots. So Randall, 70%.
Yanni
I still feel like we're underrepresented then at only 20%.
Spencer Newharth
Well, there's other of besides like the four tent poles, you know, we have like woodsmanship, gear, wildlife, biology, ecology, natural history, so it's not what do you call the. The.
Yanni
The group of like, when you talk
Spencer Newharth
about movies, we'll have popular culture, and I believe that falls under conservation.
Yanni
Great. But I can't wait to hear it, Spencer.
Brody
Love it.
Spencer Newharth
For housekeeping. Today, we're going to talk about Turkey Week. We are a couple of days into Turkey week here at Meat Eater. Giannis, tell folks what that's all about.
Yanni
I can tell you Max and I just got back from Texas. We started our turkey season off pretty good. We were even in the same spot. Are they gobbling? Good for you.
Giannis
Yeah, they definitely were not. I mean, on the limb, they definitely were, but it seemed like the first couple hours was hit or miss.
Spencer Newharth
So how many dead turkeys between the two of you?
Phil
I shot one.
Yanni
I shot two.
Spencer Newharth
Okay, that makes three.
Yanni
Spencer.
Spencer Newharth
One and a half week.
Max
Yeah.
Yanni
No, we had just. Jesse Griffiths and I hosted a sweepstakes hunt for the National Wild Cherokee Federation, and seems like you're doing a little
Max
more hunting and hosting there. And you shot two of them.
Yanni
You know, it's funny, you're not the first person to say that, Brody. No, it just so happened that they. The. Holly was the gal that won. She brought her husband Zendal with her. They wanted to hunt together, and we figured four was a crowd. And so Jesse took him the first morning. I happened to shoot a bird the first morning, and then I hunted with him the second morning, and Holly shot a bird that day, and so did Jesse. And then Zendal and I doubled on.
Spencer Newharth
Damn.
Yanni
On. In the ninth inning on the. Technically, we were only supposed to hunt through Thursday evening, but we then all didn't have a bird yet, so we went out Friday morning.
Brody
That's awesome.
Yanni
And, you know, yeah, we had a heck of a hunt. Okay, I'll save that for another good
Spencer Newharth
start to turkey season.
Yanni
Oh, it was awesome. But, yeah, Turkey week is here at Meat Eater. I think the most exciting part about Turkey Week for me is this awesome ultimate turkey giveaway that our buddy Cody Dinsmore has put together over from First Light. If you. If you're interested in submitting your name to win this, you need to go to the Meat eater store. It's important to go to the store. If you just go to themeater.com gonna be kind of hard to find how to get there. Go to the store. Sorry, my phone. My.
Brody
Somebody turned.
Spencer Newharth
Brody was making eyes around the room.
Brody
I was looking for. I was looking for Steve.
Yanni
That was my dings. Yeah, my wife is cussing over text, which is. She's not much of a cousin. Something must be wrong.
Spencer Newharth
Too much time turkey hunting already?
Yanni
Probably. But yeah. The ultimate turkey giveaway. Like I said, you can sign up at the store@the mediator.com. you can also sign up at first light. Logan Dove actually told me there's four different pages where you can sign up. So if you do a little bit of searching, you'll find it. But let me tell you about this ultimate turkey giveaway. Starting off, there's a Texas Rio Grande turkey hunt that's being donated by Bird Dog Outfitters. It's in the hill country. Three days, three hunters, five times total. So not everybody gets to shoot two, but two of you get to shoot two. Or you could just go by yourself.
Brody
That sounds like last week not everybody shot two. Right?
Yanni
Exactly. I was very fortunate.
Brody
You just gotta wear your Giannis Patelis mask and you'll be fine.
Yanni
You gotta be in the right place at the right time. There are. There is a Benelli 12 gauge Super Black Eagle first light gift card. A little combo Sig Sour, which listen, those, those image stabilized binoculars, they're not great for everything, but you know where they are. Just absolutely perfect for hunting turkeys. They're light. You can just get them into a pocket of the turkey vest. Yeah. And just one handed, it's super stable. You can tell exactly how long those spurs are before you shoot.
Max
Yeah, you can.
Giannis
I wish I had them.
Max
You can do a little Spencer. You can gauge the trophy quality of those, those goblins. How many beards?
Yanni
Along with that from Sig, there's a Romeo X Pro, whole flock of DSD decoys. A Magpul DACA kit. There's some TSS Ammun turkey ammunition from. How do you pronounce the company? Migra.
Giannis
I use that on the 410 stuff and it was like lethal.
Yanni
Hammered them a whole package of Phelps game calls. A pair of Christy boot crispy boots. Three Moultrie edge, three trail cameras. You know what you can do on those things now? They have a smart capture thing where if you turn it on and then you just tell it only take a picture of deer and turkeys. And that is really cut down.
Spencer Newharth
In all of the no more squirrels
Yanni
leaf photos that I've gotten. Yeah, it's pretty slick. I mean it's not perfect, but it's doing pretty good. A couple of case knives, FHF Bino harness.
Brody
There's still more.
Spencer Newharth
It keeps going.
Yanni
An ONX Premium Elite membership for a year. Mountain Ops gift card. It's a lot. It's over $13,000 in value for one person to win. Yeah.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
Wow.
Spencer Newharth
You could come into this owning zero pieces of turkey gear. Win the sweepstakes, and you'd be set for.
Yanni
You'd be totally decked out, and you'd be going on a turkey hunt.
Spencer Newharth
Y. Yeah.
Yanni
And knocking the old Rio.
Max
Just don't go with Yanis because they'll
Spencer Newharth
shoot them right out from underneath you. Now, one of the ways that you can get 10 extra entries is for every $25 you spend at first light, you get those 10 extra sweet stakes.
Phil
Yeah.
Yanni
So you can just go here and sign up one time. You get one entry. If you go and spend 25 bucks, you get 10 more. But during turkey week, it's actually double entries. And so until April 5th, for every 25 bucks you spend, your name goes in the pot 20 times.
Nate
Wow.
Spencer Newharth
Maximus, if you were trying to up your odds and you were going to drop a little money at first light for turkey week, what would you be buying?
Giannis
Number one tree line turkey vest.
Spencer Newharth
Okay.
Giannis
I never used to be a vest turkey guy. Like, I used to keep all the stuff in my pockets, and it was all cluttered and unorganized. Treeline turkey vest. Game changer. Next couple things. I'm a big fan of the Brambler gators. I just don't like my feet getting wet, pants getting wet, so I wear those.
Max
Keep the ticks out.
Giannis
Yeah, that too.
Spencer Newharth
Any part of the country, you'd be wearing those gators.
Giannis
I warm in Texas. I'll wear them up in Montana. Everywhere. Just helps keep your boots dry and clean. And ticks out. And then one thing I think a lot of turkey hunters sometimes forget and lose is just a neck gator, too. First light makes the arrow wool net gator. Pick up two or three of those and you'll be set for the season.
Yanni
Speaking of neck gators, I wore the approach hoodie this week that has the built in face mask. And I like that one because it sits off your face a little bit more than the neck gator. So it's not quite as tight. A little bit cooler. What are you smirking about?
Brody
Look at these guys.
Max
These guys are freaking. Did you cut your little, little.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, yeah.
Yanni
Oh, yeah. For my cigarettes. I don't want to have to drop my mask down. I have my smoke. You know, I'm sitting out there.
Spencer Newharth
You probably don't even have to do it anyway. You can probably still inhale through that thing.
Yanni
You're right. You're right.
Max
First.
Yanni
But I like to feel the filter between my first.
Max
I should just make that a standard feature for all the smokers.
Brody
Are you really smoking if you don't feel that paper?
Yanni
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So besides the giveaway bunch of turkey content on the website, I even wrote a couple articles. Tony's got one out there right now says how to figure out how to cut through all the gobbler gibberish. Figure out what you really need to know to talk to turkeys. So anything. Tony Rice. I think you should.
Brody
Yanni worked really hard on his articles last week. He was sweating it.
Yanni
Yeah. And then Randall put in basically the prompts to AI, which then promptly wrote an article better than the one I had spent a day on.
Brody
But he went with his own.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, good.
Yanni
He didn't even look at that one.
Spencer Newharth
Didn't have personality.
Yanni
No, it kind of did because he even prompted that, like, said it to write it, like Giannis. And it did.
Spencer Newharth
Okay.
Brody
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Well, you can get that content@theme eater.com. you can learn more about the Turkey week sweepstakes@store.theme eater.com it's happening right now. All right, the Shelby index for today is a four. So our winner should get eight correct answers. And with that, we're on to the game trivia.
Yanni
I forgot to drive.
Brody
You're going to need to close that laptop.
Spencer Newharth
Look, I need to know what I stand to win. Everything
Nate
just tend to win everything.
Spencer Newharth
Game on, suckers. Question 1. The topic is wildlife. This first great question is via Zach Johnson, and it will be multiple choice. Which of these animals is monogamous? Is it garter snake, bison, orca, or sandhill crane? Which of these animals is monogamous? One of them is. Three of them are not. Is it garter snake, bison?
Yanni
I like this question.
Spencer Newharth
Bunka or sandhill crane? A quick and confident room.
Brody
I really like turkey week Max. This is a good Max.
Spencer Newharth
He is chipper.
Brody
He's very happy. But also I like when Max gets serious about stuff. Like when you brought up the shot, Max is just like, that kills. That kills.
Spencer Newharth
Good.
Brody
This is a good Max.
Yanni
Yeah.
Brody
If I had to deliver some bad news to Max, do it during Turkey, I would do it during Turkey week.
Yanni
I would like to see more Max in front of the camera, as we all would, I think. So if you're out there in the meteor world and you agree with me right in. Because we need a little pressure.
Brody
You just. You just ruined my happy Max. I'm not looking at his face just turned.
Yanni
I'm not looking at it. But I think I figured out a way to his heart to get his heart in front of the camera, because he's like when are we gonna go on a hunt? And to to see Jay Scott in Mexico for Goulds turn. And I was like, well Max, as long as you get in camera you can come along anytime.
Spencer Newharth
Again, which of these animals is monogamous?
Giannis
I did a little self filming in Texas so that's also coming out this turkey week.
Spencer Newharth
Garden snake, bison, orca. Sandhill crane. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says sandhill crane. Laura and Randall. The whole room says sandhill Crane. The whole room got it right. The correct answer is sandhill crane.
Giannis
Did Shelby get that one right?
Spencer Newharth
She did. Yes. She got that one right. Sandhill cranes begin breeding at age 2 or 3. But some won't start until they're age 4 or 5. Both parents help with incubating the eggs and raising the ch and raising the chicks. Marriages can last for as long as 30 years. Divorce is very rare. But sometimes it happens if the duo is unable to successfully raise young or
Yanni
if Randall listen, in our happy little valley where I live, the neighbors have been watching this pair. They think the entire time they've lived there, which is almost 15 years. And the pair has never been able to raise a single colt to what do you call it? Flight hood to be able to escape predators. We watch them for like a month and then eventually there's no. No baby, no babysitting.
Spencer Newharth
They're on divorce watch then maybe.
Yanni
Yeah, they just got. They just came back to town like in the last week and it's lovely. I like when it's a quiet even and listening to them squawking. It's great.
Spencer Newharth
It's make or break season for them. Then they're gonna stay together.
Yanni
I know I'm gonna go to the neighbors and say look, I think I know how to help this along but I don't know if they're going to be into like predator watch. But hey, it depends on your goals, you know.
Spencer Newharth
Question two. The topic is hunting. This brand calls itself quote, America's master gun maker and has a logo that features a T over top of C. This brand calls itself America's master gun maker and has a logo that Maybe
Max
you can throw a few more clues
Spencer Newharth
over top AC I hope Brody doesn't win today. What's that? Nothing. This brand calls itself America's master gun maker and has a logo that features a T over top AC so if you're watching this on YouTube you'll notice we are in a new studio. Got a figuratively job.
Phil
Yeah. Steve was in here 15 minutes before we hit record hanging Stuff up and we're not done. So it looks. The walls are a little bare. Okay, now, what color would you call that? You know, it was kind of a mistake to have pretty close to some first light colors because Randall is almost just sinking into the wall right now. But it's not quite the same shade.
Giannis
Tarmac.
Yanni
I actually like it the way that it's not cluttered like it was before.
Max
I like it not cluttered.
Phil
Well, cluttered's better for sound, and it's better for the camera, so.
Brody
So we won't do that.
Yanni
I think we should just do more. It should just be all hides.
Nate
Dude, it's been a long day.
Spencer Newharth
Close.
Nate
I know.
Spencer Newharth
America's master gun maker that has a logo that features a T over top of C. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says Colt. Laura without an answer. Randall says Thompson Center. Corey says Thompson 2 Turkey. Yanni says Thompson Center. Max and Brody say Thompson Center. The correct answer is Thompson Center. Thompson Center.
Max
Wait, wait.
Spencer Newharth
What's up?
Max
Does Corey get not.
Spencer Newharth
That's only half.
Phil
Really?
Spencer Newharth
Whoa, whoa.
Nate
Mr. Muscle Guy.
Spencer Newharth
Thompson Center.
Phil
That's rich
Nate
from last week.
Spencer Newharth
You guys think Corey should get that point for having your prince island muscles or whatever? No.
Max
Oh, yeah, dude.
Nate
I'm just saying, man.
Spencer Newharth
Now, now, Brody, when four out of seven people get it correct, that's like the perfect trivia question. So you. You thought it was too easy?
Max
I did.
Spencer Newharth
I'd say just right. Thompson center was founded in 1965 by Ken Thompson and Warren Center. In 1970, they created the Hawkin Muzzleloader. According to the NRA, the gun was so popular that it helped launch a muzzleloader hunting re solution in America.

Question 3. The topic is foraging. Burdock is commonly referred to as wild blank because of its elephant ear leaves that resemble this garden perennial. The room is stumped. Burdock is commonly referred to as wild blank because of its elephant ear leaves that resemble this garden perennial. Brody the only player to put marker to wipe.
Brody
But look at this. But look what he's doing now.
Spencer Newharth
He doesn't doesn't love what he wrote. Oh, wow. Wow, that was nice, Max. I was looking at your face.
Phil
For those not watching, Max is rubbing his whiteboard on our podcast table here.
Spencer Newharth
It's the new Phelps that's gonna be
Brody
a favorite among the audio only listeners.
Spencer Newharth
Maxwell Podcast studio call.
Yanni
Stop it.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, we've had enough, Max. Burdock is commonly referred to as wild blank because of its elephant ear leaves that resemble this garden perennial. Yanni has now come up with an answer. Yanni, do you like your answer?
Yanni
Not really.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. Does it have elephant ear leaves? Is it a Garden perennial.
Yanni
Yes.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. Burdock is commonly referred to as wild blank because of its elephant ear leaves that resemble this garden perennial. Players slowly locking in their answers, but nobody seems to love what they wrote.
Max
Oh, man. I remember running around the woods, calling it which woods? Back in the old days in the neighborhood woodlot.
Spencer Newharth
The old day woods.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
Ye olde wood.
Max
One little woodlot that seemed like it was the size of Montana. Back then. It was probably like 2 acres.
Spencer Newharth
Burdock is commonly referred to as wild blank because of its elephant ear leaves that resemble this garden perennial.
Max
Mm.
Spencer Newharth
Is everybody ready?
Giannis
Are you okay, Nate?
Spencer Newharth
No, dude.
Nate
I had a big old test this morning, so I'm pretty tired.
Spencer Newharth
Okay, is everybody ready? Hold on.
Brody
I ate a Sonora hot dog covered in steak about 15 minutes ago, so I'm also tired.
Spencer Newharth
Yanni making a last second change. Yanni, Good. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says tulip. Hey. Without an answer. Randall says rhubarb. Corey says tulip.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
Rhubarb.
Spencer Newharth
Yanni says parsnip. Max says onions. Brody says rhubarb.
Yanni
I had rhubarb.
Spencer Newharth
The correct answer is rhubarb. Oh, yeah, Brody and Randall got that one right. Although burdock looks like rhubarb, it doesn't taste like it. The flavor of its edible taproot is described as nutty or earthy, often compared to celery or artichoke. Ideally, it's harvested before flowering in its first or second year of growth. It's found across the continent, growing in disturbed areas like pastures, parks, and ditches. There's a canal that runs by my neighborhood that has a prolific amount of burdock. I'm gonna harvest some this year. I think we should call it ditch rhubarb. Ditch rhubarb.
Brody
That's good.
Spencer Newharth
I feel like that's better.
Brody
Ditch Barb.
Spencer Newharth
Question 4. The topic is fishing. What is the color of a boat's starboard side light?
Yanni
Oh.
Max
Oh.
Giannis
It's either one or two.
Spencer Newharth
What is the color of a boat's starboard sidelight? A lot of quick answers. Do you have this one right, Captain Randall?
Max
Yes.
Spencer Newharth
We're gonna have to take away your captain's. Your expired.
Giannis
Expired.
Brody
Long expired.
Spencer Newharth
If you don't get this one.
Nate
Is it still in your wallet?
Brody
No, it's actually. It's a. Like a passport book.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, yeah. Corey, do you have this one right?
Brody
50.
Yanni
50.
Giannis
Okay, I'm 50.
Phil
50.
Spencer Newharth
We're gonna take away your expired fishing guide license. Oh, no.
Giannis
You don't need to know this crap at all.
Max
You want to Row a boat down the river.
Spencer Newharth
Brody, do you have this one? It's nice to know which side.
Max
I don't know, but what if it's just not out at night enough to, like, headlamps are for and you don't
Brody
know if the boat's coming over at you?
Spencer Newharth
Of a boat's starboard side light should
Max
technically be used in safe. Wonder if we should technically be using lights on.
Phil
Is this something you should be saying on mic?
Spencer Newharth
I can hear you. Again, we're on question four.
Brody
You're gonna need to bleep that.
Spencer Newharth
The topic is fishing. What is the color of a boat's starboard sidelight? Maxwell, you ready?
Nate
No.
Spencer Newharth
How many?
Phil
Pick one, man.
Brody
Colors could there possibly be?
Giannis
I'm trying to feel.
Phil
At least three.
Spencer Newharth
I'm calling ready. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says green. Laura says red. Randall says green. Corey? Red. Yanni? Green. Max, what did you. Green. Okay, Brody? Red.
Max
Red.
Brody
Port Return.
Spencer Newharth
The correct answer is green. I think half the room got that one right. When standing inside of a boat and looking forward, the port side is on your left. The left light is red. The starboard side is on your right. The right side is green. Each color is supposed to form a 112 degree arc of light that's visible to approaching vessels. And Phil has a diagram for us of the different lights that you would see.
Max
Running lights is just a good way to get caught doing something you're not supposed to be doing.
Phil
Still recording.
Spencer Newharth
Good advice from Brody. Question 5. The topic is conservation. This is our Listener Question of the Week, which was won by Nate Murphy for sending this great question. Nate is going to get a board game signed by the crew. If you want a chance to win the Listener Question of the week, then send your question to trivia.com. in fisheries management, what does the acronym YOY stand for? That indicates a fish is a juvenile. In fisheries management, what does the acronym YOY stand for that indicates a fish is a juvenile? Brody and Nate quick to answer. Nate, do you have this one right?
Nate
No. I mean, maybe.
Yanni
I don't know.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. You just wanted to get it over with.
Nate
Yeah, dude.
Spencer Newharth
Yep.
Nate
I gotta go put on more deodorant.
Spencer Newharth
Nate's kind of mailed this one in. She's starting. Nate, one for four.
Giannis
Smile.
Spencer Newharth
Thank you.
Giannis
You're just like, yeah.
Spencer Newharth
It's Turkey week, Nate. Come on, dude.
Nate
I know, I know. Test's over. I'm just tired. Drained.
Yanni
What kind of test was this?
Nate
PMP exam. Let me give a PSA to all the people on Reddit. It's not that hard.
Max
And why are you so tired?
Nate
Well, taking the test is draining, but the prep for it, people are like, oh, I studied for four months hours every day.
Brody
What is.
Spencer Newharth
Dude, I was just gonna ask the
Phil
same people on Reddit.
Yanni
Dude, I studied before.
Spencer Newharth
I don't know what it's like.
Nate
You know how when you're in high school, you take like the SAT or the ACT to get in college? This is like a test army nerds take when they're getting out of the army to get a job. Oh, but I. I just waited a long time.
Spencer Newharth
Project management professional.
Nate
That's the one.
Yanni
To get a job with the army.
Nate
No, no, like to. Because you don't have, like a real resume coming out of the army. So guys are like, what do I put on my resume? You take this random test and hopefully it does something.
Brody
But Nate, you have a job.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
That's a great point, Randall.
Spencer Newharth
Why am I wasting my time around here very long?
Nate
I am. Well, that's the thing is I am, but I have. We'll talk about it offline, okay?
Brody
No, I know you explained this week. I'm just giving you a hard time.
Nate
Thank you.
Spencer Newharth
What does the acronym yoy little disappointed in you. MA indicates? A fish is a juvenile.
Phil
Don't.
Yanni
Oh, you can't write it down.
Spencer Newharth
That was kind of mean. Yanni. Yanni showed the right answer to Max.
Giannis
I don't have any of those words, so I'm good.
Spencer Newharth
Everybody go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says young of years ago. Laura says year over year. Randall, young of the year. Corey Young, year over year. Yanni, young of the year. Max, year of yearling. Brody, young of the year. The correct answer is young of the year.
Nate
Let's go.
Spencer Newharth
Young of the year is a catch all term that refers to fish that are in their first year of life. Biologists do YOY surveys during the spring and summer to assess the success or failure of that spawning cycle. This data is collected for both saltwater and freshwater fish and can impact regulations. Phil, we're halfway through the game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update.
Phil
Suppose we are here at halftime. We've got Corey and Laura on the board with one point a piece.
Giannis
Randall.
Phil
Nate and Max are tied up with three. Giannis and Brody have four points each. And in first place with a perfect game. Yes, that's right. It's Dr. Randall Williams.
Spencer Newharth
A turkey week, perfect game. Could it be?
Brody
Boy, that would be huge.
Yanni
The second half's always tough. Randall,
Spencer Newharth
question six.
Brody
The topic I've been starting out pretty slowly in the past few weeks.
Spencer Newharth
So this fits. Well, question six. The topic is ecology. This next great question is via J. Rose. Cultivate and propagate are synonyms for this nine letter word that's defined as quote, to cause a seed to start growing. Cultivate and propagate are synonyms for this nine letter word that Steve find as to cause a seed to start growing. What was that wow about? I'm actually just.
Giannis
I suck at spelling and.
Spencer Newharth
Are you impressed with yourself here?
Giannis
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, okay. Max did it.
Giannis
It's nine letters. Usually it's like one or two more or one or two left.
Spencer Newharth
Might as well give yourself an extra point for that.
Max
Max was just hoping for seven to 11 letters.
Spencer Newharth
And Randall. The perfect game for Randall.
Yanni
Or he's messing with us.
Spencer Newharth
He wrote a hanging in Jeff.
Yanni
Pretty.
Giannis
No. By his face. No, he doesn't have it.
Max
No.
Brody
Look at my face getting red. I can feel it getting red.
Max
We should probably wrap this one up.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah. It stands out nicely against our new paint job in here. Cultivate and propagate are synonyms for this nine letter word that's defined as to cause a seed to start growing. Smile.
Max
I felt like the last one is. You hear young of the year a lot.
Spencer Newharth
We have six players who like their answer. And then. Randall.
Brody
No. Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Corey, do you have this one right? Maybe.
Giannis
You're gonna hate me.
Max
Quit flashing that thing around, man.
Spencer Newharth
Magus is so proud. He just drunk Gobbler over here.
Max
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Come on. With his correct answer, you can see in the reflection of the window. I could unlock something new in here. Here. We'll give Randy a few more seconds. Cultivate.
Max
Oh, sure. Just give him all the time in the world.
Spencer Newharth
Synonyms for this nine letter word that's defined as to cause a seed to start growing.
Giannis
He's looking at Tom's head when it changes colors.
Yanni
Happy turkey.
Spencer Newharth
We're beyond red. We're entering the white phase.
Max
Changing color to the right color.
Brody
Oh, God.
Spencer Newharth
Randall, do you give up right before his head explodes? Yeah, before Max shoots him.
Brody
No, it would be cause.
Spencer Newharth
Randall, You give up tough stuff.
Brody
He's a good guy.
Giannis
You guys be nice. Hey, don't show him.
Nate
Oh, well, this happened.
Yanni
Or he's getting a little loose with
Spencer Newharth
the whiteboard over there. Go ahead and reveal your answers. The whole room says germinate. Besides, Randall, the correct answer is germinate. Germination is the process where a seed wakes up from dormancy and sprouts into a new plant. This is triggered by water, oxygen, and temperature. Typically, when a seed germinates it begins to swell, then it ruptures, then a root emerges, then a shoot emerges.
Giannis
He's pulling out his phone.
Spencer Newharth
What are you looking for?
Brody
Am I cultivate and propagate. I understand is like, I cultivated this.
Spencer Newharth
Okay, there. If you were to look at synonyms.
Brody
If a seed germinates, are you saying that seed cultivated.
Spencer Newharth
But a synonym is not necessarily an exact matching definition? No, it is like.
Brody
That's exactly what it is.
Spencer Newharth
Like thesaurus.
Brody
That's exactly what it is, Phil.
Giannis
Something similar.
Brody
What are we talking about here?
Yanni
A thesaurus. I would agree with you, but I'm
Phil
not a scholar of any kind.
Brody
This is.
Spencer Newharth
If you go to like thesaurus.com, it'll give you like 15, you know, examples of synonyms for germinating.
Yanni
Give us the definition of synonym.
Phil
A word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word.
Brody
No, that's not the same nearly. So when you say germinate, it talks about. It talks about a seed growing. Cultivate to prepare or prepare for the use of raising of crops to foster the growth of. Fostering the growth of something isn't the same as something growing.
Spencer Newharth
Listen, those. Those are both lists.
Brody
You should end this episode now. You're gonna get destroyed.
Gronk
But I think.
Yanni
No, because you're gonna get destroyed.
Phil
Radel does have a point.
Brody
Phil has.
Yanni
But to germinate a seed is to what?
Nate
Cultivate a seed?
Max
Propagate. Definitely. It's definitely.
Brody
You are germinating where the seed is germinating. Are you germinating a seed
Yanni
who.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
What?
Brody
What? This is.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
These are verbs.
Giannis
No, the seed itself is germinating.
Brody
Seed is germinating. The seed does not cultivate anything. No, the seed does not propagate anymore.
Giannis
You're doing that yourself.
Brody
That's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about. Baseballs fly when you hit them.
Spencer Newharth
I am.
Brody
I. I hit the ball, the ball flies. So when you cultivate something, it. Germans.
Spencer Newharth
Do we respect Merriam Webster in this room? I would say yes, we do. They list both of those as synonyms. Germany, Horse shit. Question.
Yanni
You better be careful.
Max
After this game is over, Spencer, I feel like he's going to find you and kick you right in the nuts.
Brody
Synonyms for cultivate are promote, nurture, foster, nourish, germinate.
Spencer Newharth
Again, Merriam Webster list cultivate one way
Nate
street or a two way street. Because he says they're synonyms for his word. It's a roundabout, not necessarily the other way. You know what I'm saying?
Brody
But do you understand what I'm saying here.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah, the subject. The other six players got it right.
Brody
If you use the word in the sentence, you can't have the same subject. Then it's not a synonym.
Spencer Newharth
Question 7.
Brody
Phil knows I'm correct.
Spencer Newharth
Okay.
Brody
That's why I wrote down gardening. Because cultivating is more like gardening than it is germinating. I can garden. I can cultivate.
Spencer Newharth
Cultivate seeds.
Brody
Cannot garden.
Spencer Newharth
You take this up with Miriam Webster.
Brody
This is insane. You're insane right now. I actually think this is the most intellectually bankrupt question and answer you've ever asked on this show.
Phil
What about the revolver one?
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
That.
Brody
That was just dumb.
Yanni
Shots fired.
Spencer Newharth
This is wild. I think Randall still has a nice lead going into question seven.
Max
Do you think he'd be fighting like this if he had the lead?
Spencer Newharth
Yes, I do.
Brody
There is an alternate definition for germinate.
Giannis
Oh, let's hear it.
Brody
No, I still don't.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, see, it turns out he agrees with himself on this one. Question 7. The topic is conservation.
Max
Really?
Brody
Know what I'm saying?
Giannis
Randall's going to quit.
Brody
I was thinking of agriculture. I was thinking of gardening. Farming. Because cultivating and propagating are things you do to seeds.
Nate
Has anyone ever walked out but you
Spencer Newharth
weren't thinking about Germany.
Brody
Keep going.
Spencer Newharth
I mean, what a specific definition to cause a seed to start growing. Wow. Germinate. Question seven. The topic is conservation. This TV secret agent who worked cases saving wolves, golden eagles and black rhinos is best known.
Yanni
Can we go?
Spencer Newharth
Right. Resourcefulness and mullet.
Yanni
No, we're gonna pick it up after we write down these.
Spencer Newharth
This TV secret agency who worked cases saving wolves, golden eagles and black rhinos is best known for his resourcefulness and mullet.
Nate
I think. But now that I read it again, I'm kind of questioning.
Spencer Newharth
Brody and Nate both have an answer. What would you like to discuss on that last one, Yanni?
Yanni
Well, I need to write down an answer.
Brody
First.
Max
I'd like to discuss the definition of a mullet.
Nate
Spencer.
Spencer Newharth
Well.
Nate
And secret agent.
Spencer Newharth
This TV secret agent.
Nate
I don't know if I have the right. This right anymore.
Spencer Newharth
Worked cases saving wolves, golden eagles and black rhinos. Is best known for his resourcefulness and mullet. Now, Randall's.
Max
I don't think that's okay.
Spencer Newharth
Let me.
Max
Hey, I just don't want to peek.
Nate
Swappy, swappy, peek. Ready?
Max
I don't think he was a secret agent.
Brody
A secret agent.
Giannis
I don't care. First thing I thought of.
Nate
But I'm the same boat first.
Giannis
I like your answer.
Spencer Newharth
Brody. Do you have this one right?
Nate
The first qualifiers throw me off.
Spencer Newharth
Brody, the only player who likes his answer.
Giannis
Yeah, I like Nate's answer.
Nate
Do you see Brody's answer?
Giannis
No, I don't want to.
Max
I'm not gonna show anyone my answer.
Nate
All right.
Max
I feel like.
Nate
Did you see mine?
Phil
Nope.
Max
Show it to me. You know what, Randall?
Yanni
He says the definition is.
Nate
I know.
Yanni
I know. Seed to grow. Oh, you know what definition?
Max
It's not right.
Spencer Newharth
Yes.
Yanni
You.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah.
Max
Are germinating the detail in there that I know make your answer wrong.
Nate
I know.
Yanni
You are causing the seed
Brody
germinating key detail.
Max
Unless Spencer, like, really messed this question.
Nate
Unless he's doing one of those, like, Flavortown things.
Yanni
If. I think it can maybe be applied
Brody
both ways if I'm prop.
Max
You guys are still arguing.
Yanni
I think that the seed can't cultivate itself.
Brody
That's what I'm saying.
Yanni
Germinate itself.
Brody
That's what I'm saying. But that's my whole argument.
Yanni
But I'm saying that you can germinate the seed and the seed can germinate
Giannis
itself, and you can also.
Brody
I can germinate a seed.
Yanni
Okay.
Brody
That's all I was doing.
Yanni
Because it says in this question to.
Brody
Cause my argument is that if we're using his question as the source of the original truth.
Max
Man, you're asking. He's got a question like this in a long time.
Spencer Newharth
Spencer. And it was. What is 6 divided by 7? It was like a 90 percenter for the room.
Yanni
Yeah.
Brody
If the question had said. Here's where I think the question. If the question had said, like this nine letter word. That's a synonym with. With sprout or whatever.
Max
You know, Spencer, I don't know if you noticed, but I've turned over a new leaf. I don't argue about questions anymore since this episode.
Spencer Newharth
Down again. Question 7. This TV secret agent who worked cases saving wolves, golden eagles and black rhinos is best known for his resourcefulness and mullet. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says Ace Ventura. Laura without an answer. Randall says MacGyver. Corey. Ace Ventura. Yanni. MacGyver. Max. Joe Dirt. Brody. MacGyver. The correct answer is MacGyver.
Max
I almost wrote down MacGruber, but then I realized
Spencer Newharth
she was too embarrassed to show the answer.
Brody
Pet detective.
Nate
I know.
Spencer Newharth
Didn't I can think of anyone else and I didn't.
Yanni
Honestly, it's been so long since I've seen MacGyver. I didn't know that he was a special agent.
Spencer Newharth
I don't think I've ever told me
Nate
that was Wrong, dude. You shouldn't trust weapons.
Spencer Newharth
Give Laura that point, Phil. Yeah.
Nate
Yes, no doubt.
Spencer Newharth
MacGyver ran from 1985 to 1992 and got a reboot in 2016. He is a secret agent who uses unconventional tools for genius level problem solving. MacGyver refuses to carry a gun, instead arming himself with a Swiss army knife. Knife, duct tape, matches, paper clips and chewing gum. At an unspecified point in the series, he becomes a vegetarian and starts working cases that involve endangered species. Here is a trailer for episode 19 from season three, where MacGyver reunites with an ex girlfriend who is a park ranger. They spend the episode battling grizzly poachers and rekindling their flame. Play it, Phil. You didn't just expect to fly back into my life after three years, did you? Somebody's been on this trail since we came through.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
Could be a ranger track.
Spencer Newharth
You and I closed the book a long time ago. I wouldn't have come at all if
Yanni
you told me about Sam.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
What are you doing with me?
Yanni
I asked.
Brody
Finish.
Spencer Newharth
Do you mind telling me what you're doing here? Park service.
Brody
Oh, we're getting out of here together.
Yanni
You shot the ranger, Ed. What do you mean we're out of there?
Spencer Newharth
What would you say if I made
Yanni
it a little longer?
Spencer Newharth
I'd say you had your chance once. At least let me help.
Brody
But we're gonna have to get moving. Freeze.
Yanni
Go on, shoot.
Spencer Newharth
You're gonna hang me out to dry. Anyway, we go in and we finish them both off.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Advertiser
That's how.
Spencer Newharth
Never seen.
Phil
Wow.
Nate
No.
Spencer Newharth
Brody, Yanni. Did you boys watch MacGyver when it was on?
Max
Oh, I'm sure I watched it a handful of times.
Yanni
Oh, yeah?
Max
Yeah.
Yanni
Oh, yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Did you love MacGyver?
Yanni
Yeah.
Brody
That's darker than I. I don't remember.
Yanni
I don't remember. Was that the reboot or is that from.
Spencer Newharth
No, that was, like, season three, episode 19. So that must have been, like, 1988. I don't remember.
Phil
Right.
Nate
In my prime.
Spencer Newharth
TV New Years.
Max
Wildlife savior.
Yanni
Before you were born. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, his resourcefulness, right? That's what. That's what everybody loves.
Spencer Newharth
Yeah. He could, like, create a diamond, like.
Giannis
Oh, you're MacGyvering something.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, now you know. Yeah.
Giannis
I never knew it was an actual show.
Nate
I didn't know you would consider that a mullet.
Spencer Newharth
Feathery mullet.
Nate
Yeah.
Brody
I like this.
Giannis
Apparently, I got a mullet, right?
Spencer Newharth
That's good.
Brody
It seems like it would be bad for sneaking around.
Max
What was the spoof of my guy McGruber?
Spencer Newharth
Gruber. That SNL still does.
Max
They still do it.
Spencer Newharth
I think they pull it. Who's the. Who's the one?
Phil
He's been off the show for a while but they, they just cameos. They did like a surprise. They did one a few episodes ago with Will Forte as like a guest star. It was pretty fun.

Spencer Newharth
Question 8. The topic is woodsmanship. This planet, which is the fourth brightest planet in our night sky, is seen in retrograde multiple times each year. Fourth brightest. This planet, which is the fourth brightest planet in our sky, is seen in retrograde multiple times each year.
Max
I wish I knew what that meant.
Spencer Newharth
We can talk about it in the flavor text.
Nate
I. Oh, never mind. I'm not gonna give any hints.
Spencer Newharth
Nate, very quick to answer the side of the table with Brody, Max, Yanni. And Corey is crossing some stuff out. Erasing Yanni. Do you have this one right?
Yanni
I don't know.
Spencer Newharth
Okay, we'll get a scoreboard update.
Yanni
I'm writing down a planet that I feel like I've seen a few times over the years.
Spencer Newharth
Phil the engineer after this. This planet, which is the fourth brightest planet in our night sky, is seen in retrograde multiple times each year.
Phil
Corey's got a whole solar system on his board.
Spencer Newharth
Max pointed out he has a one in nine chance.
Brody
Does he include the ninth planet it?
Max
No, he doesn't. No, because there's not nine planets.
Giannis
Well, I still haven't one of nine chance.
Spencer Newharth
He's not sure which one I'm thinking of.
Giannis
One you don't know.
Brody
It ain't the Earth.
Spencer Newharth
This planet, which is the fourth brightest planet in our night sky, is seen in retrograde multiple times each year.
Yanni
Oh, unless retrograde is somehow like a mirroring. And he is talking about.
Spencer Newharth
Or could it be Laura, do you have this one right question? Maybe.
Brody
Okay, what's the definition of retrograde?
Yanni
Yeah, I don't know.
Brody
Sorry about that.
Phil
Yeah, I think it was one episode ago. Randall, you issued an apology.
Spencer Newharth
We could just schedule in a new segment up top. That's a Randall apology.
Yanni
If I was you, Phil, I would already start working on the new intro for trivia and kind of rework work what we just saw there into. Into that. That will get.
Brody
I just thought I was right. I thought, dude, that seems like a great. And you guys were all making fun of my appearance during the question. Remember that? You guys are all making fun of how my face looks.
Giannis
Yeah, yeah.
Brody
And you just struck a nerve with
Giannis
me, you know, I'm sorry I made fun of you, Randall.
Brody
No, that was actually very funny, Max. That's the kind of Max I'm hoping for.
Spencer Newharth
It softened the whole thing. Actually, believe it or not, didn't you
Max
have to recently read a. An apology?
Brody
Yeah, but that wasn't because of an outburst. That was because I was in a bad mood.
Max
Oh, there's a difference.
Phil
Yeah, he's in a great mood today.
Brody
Yeah, I'm in a great mood.
Yanni
It's turkey week.
Brody
I was having a perfect game until then.
Spencer Newharth
Is everybody ready?
Brody
How fun that was.
Max
Sure.
Spencer Newharth
Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says Mercury. Lorna. Mercury. Randall. Mercury. Corey. Venus. Yanni. Saturn. Matt. Neptune. Brody. Venus. The correct answer is Mercury.
Phil
Let's go.
Spencer Newharth
Mercury is the fourth brightest planet after Venus, Jupiter, and Mars. You're able to see it with your naked eye around sunrise and sunset, with it hovering close to the horizon. Retrograde is an optical illusion that makes it appear as though the planet is moving backwards. This phenomenon happens for a few weeks about every four months. Despite no scientific evidence, some believe that Mercury in retrograde causes animals to have a chaotic period where they're extra anxious and territorial. I feel like you'll hear about pet owners saying that it must be not like White tailbox.
Giannis
Yeah.
Yanni
How come the juries don't cover retrograde? I mean, that's got the drearies. I mean, that's gotta affect movement just as much.
Max
I find that gobblers are much more. They gobble way more during.
Brody
I think it's more of an astrologer thing.
Nate
Yeah.
Brody
Dude, if you have like, some astrology people.
Phil
Oh, yeah. They're way into that.
Spencer Newharth
They know it. Yeah.
Brody
They're like, I knew something was happening in my life, and then I realized it was Mercury. Mercury in retrograde.
Nate
I got this right because, like, my mom used to say this to justify, like, her doing crazy stuff.
Max
Yeah. I wonder if Randall's outbursts are tied
Spencer Newharth
while Phil gives us a scoreboard update. We have two questions left.
Brody
Every two weeks or every week sometimes.
Phil
Corey is in last place with two points. Laura and Max have four. Nate has five. Giannis and Brody have six. And Randall Williams pulled back ahead he's in first place with seven points after that last question.
Spencer Newharth
So we have three retrogrades this year. February 26th to March 20th. So we just missed that window. The next one is June 29 to July 23, and then October 24 to November 13.
Brody
My previous outburst was during retrograde.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, wow.
Yanni
Okay, wow.
Brody
That was March 13th.
Spencer Newharth
Just some Friday the 13th. But we're gonna have an article on the meat eater.com this year about how mercury in retrograde affects the whitetail run. Here's question nine. The topic is cooking. This nine letter word is defined as, quote, the empty space between the top of the food or liquid and the underside of the canning lid. Geez.
Yanni
Don't know this one. Laura.
Spencer Newharth
This nine letter word is defined as the empty space between the top of the food or liquid and the underside of the canning lid. Brody very confidently put his whiteboard down.
Max
Oh, yeah. So confident.
Spencer Newharth
The only one of the seven players.
Max
What are you drawing there, Max?
Giannis
I'm just drawing a can in the space. Hopefully it comes up with a nine letter word.
Spencer Newharth
This nine letter word is defined as the empty space between the top of the food or liquid and the underside of the canning lid. We'll get another scoreboard update after this. Find out where we stand going into question 10.
Max
What you got in the can there, Max?
Spencer Newharth
Berries.
Giannis
No, it doesn't look like berries. Pickle pipe.
Spencer Newharth
It's chunky for that.
Giannis
It's long and stringy.
Spencer Newharth
Maybe doodles. Dilly beans.
Max
Canned ramen.
Yanni
Asparagus.
Giannis
Beans would be good.
Spencer Newharth
This nine letter word is defined as the empty space between the top of the food or liquid and the underside of the canning lid.
Brody
What a question.
Giannis
I was gonna come up with some scientific name and what a great scientific word. And just.
Yanni
I know this is. This is my cooking bone, you know?
Max
Yeah, there's a time Giannis is a big canner too. He's making canned deer meat all the time.
Spencer Newharth
You should have this one.
Yanni
I do like me. I don't think I've ever heard a name for this. Ready?
Spencer Newharth
Brody's probably said it to you in the kitchen.
Giannis
I made it to the Shelby index, so I'm happy.
Max
Okay.
Spencer Newharth
On turkey week?
Max
I could be way off. Spencer.
Spencer Newharth
Does anyone else like that?
Giannis
Not as off as me, no.
Spencer Newharth
No.
Max
You've drawn it very well there. I like that.
Spencer Newharth
This nine letter word is defined as the empty space between the top of the food or liquid and the underside of the canning lid. Is everybody ready?
Yanni
Let me write something.
Spencer Newharth
This is question nine. Nine letter word for question nine.
Max
Yanni yeah, go ahead.
Spencer Newharth
Go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says negatives. Laura says. What's that say? Laura Meniscus. Randall says. Corey says empty air. Johnny says uncanned. Max drew us can. Brody says headspace. Brody got it. The correct answer.
Nate
He's got a chance.
Spencer Newharth
Head space. Damn it. If you don't leave enough head space when canning, you risk liquid seeping through the lid and preventing a good seal. Some general guidelines are to leave a quarter inch of head space for jellies and jams, a half inch for tomato products and one inch for meat.
Nate
Is there any relation to gun headspace there. Should you have gotten that?
Phil
Not really.
Yanni
But had. Had he connected the two somehow, then Randall would have gotten him.
Brody
I did think about head.
Nate
Like.
Brody
Like. Like on a beer. Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Here's a correct answer review so far.
Brody
Five letters. So I made a joke.
Spencer Newharth
One was Sandhill Crane. Two Thompson center. Three Rhubarb four Green five Yoy is young of year. Six. Germany seven, eight Mercury nine. Headspace. Phil, scoreboard update.
Phil
It is down to Giannis. He's still in the game with six points. But Randall and Brody are tied up in first with seven.
Spencer Newharth
Question 10. The topic is fishing. This next great question is via Kyle Lukes. The Salish Sea consists of the Strait of Georgia, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the blank blank
Giannis
Bean.
Nate
Bing.
Spencer Newharth
The Salish Sea consists of the Strait of Georgia, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the blank blank. Randall, do you have this one right? I do. Okay. Brody has a blank whiteboard.
Giannis
I'm feeling pretty good about my answer.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. Max is going to beat the Shelby index.
Giannis
You saw it.
Spencer Newharth
Yanni, who's one point behind, would need to get this right with Brody and Randall to get it wrong to go to overtime. But Randall likes his answer. Randall, how confident are you at this point?
Brody
Probably 97, 98%. Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
The Salish Sea consists of the Strait of Georgia, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the blank blank.
Giannis
I don't feel confident anymore.
Brody
You're on the wrong continent.
Giannis
Yeah, I am too.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, Brody. Still pondering.
Brody
You alright, Max? Meh. Oh, I just want this so bad.
Spencer Newharth
Corey, do you have this one right?
Brody
It's all I want for Turkey week. I got a body of water written down.
Spencer Newharth
I feel pretty good.
Brody
I don't think I'm eligible for the Giant sweepstakes.
Yanni
No. I asked Logan Dove and he said you can play, but you can't win.
Brody
I was ready to spend all of my money on vests and neck gaiters.
Spencer Newharth
The Salish Sea consists of the Strait of Georgia, at least five, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the blank blank. Nate, do you have this one right?
Nate
No, I think I'm in the right
Spencer Newharth
part of the world, but Randall may be the only one to get this one.
Brody
Oh, no. I really hope I got it.
Max
I don't have an answer.
Spencer Newharth
I hope I got it. Before you give up, Brody, go ahead and reveal your answers. Nate says Baltic Sea. Laura without an answer. Randall says Puget Sound. Corey says Indian Ocean. Yanni without an answer. Max says Nile River. Brody without an answer. Randall got it. My correct answer is the Puget Sound. Oh, my gosh. He wins the game.
Brody
What a dramatic victory from Georgia.
Spencer Newharth
Eight correct answers.
Max
The name in front of Puget Sound threw me off. You know, if I was going to argue about something, that's what I would argue about. Nobody says you're past that.
Spencer Newharth
Now say Puget Sound. The name Salish Sea was formally established in 2009 by the U.S. board of Geographic Names. It is a 6,500 square mile international water body that stretches from British Columbia to Washington. The Puget Sound refers to only the southernmost water that is often associated with Seattle. Phil has a map there to show you where the Strait of Georgia, Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Puget Sound all fall.
Max
Where does it say the Puget Sound on that map?
Spencer Newharth
Well, it doesn't say the Salish or the. The Strait of Georgia doesn't say the Olympic Peninsula, the Strait of Juan de Fuca either. All right, Randall. Randall, eight correct answers. The Turkey Week victory. What are you gonna do with that? $500. Oh.
Brody
Oh, man. It's not going to Turkey. It's tough because I want to give it to conservation groups that I respect, but I also don't think anybody would want to be associated with my behavior from this episode. So land access. Let's donate this to the National Fish Habitat Partnership.
Spencer Newharth
Oh, that's a new one.
Yanni
Okay. Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Are they going to put a stamp of approval?
Brody
I don't know. I don't know. We'll have to reach out to our friends there.
Spencer Newharth
What do you like about them?
Brody
They just do a lot of habitat work all across the country. It's. It's like an umbrella organization that. That fosters partnerships for improving and restoring fish habitat.
Spencer Newharth
Okay. They probably save a lot of yoy fish.
Phil
Yeah.
Spencer Newharth
Give you guys.
Brody
How fitting.
Spencer Newharth
In the future. Join us next week.
Giannis
Do they germinate any fish?
Spencer Newharth
Meat eater Trivia Conservation always win.
Brody
Thank you, Spencer.
Nate
Suck it, Duke.
Max
Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota. He's the host. Using those smooth mellow tones. He lays them questions down.
Spencer Newharth
And he likes taking those two and
Max
three year old bucks and he's an asshole.
Spencer Newharth

Ep. 856: Game On, Suckers! MeatEater Trivia CCX
Date: April 1, 2026
Host: Spencer Newharth
Guests/Contestants: Giannis, Brody, Randall, Max, Laura, Corey, Nate
This episode centers around the popular "MeatEater Trivia" segment—a lively, competitive game show format where conservation always wins. Seven regulars from the MeatEater crew (Giannis, Brody, Randall, Max, Laura, Corey, Nate) take on ten rounds of outdoor-themed trivia covering hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. Along the way, the crew banters about the start of turkey season, gear recommendations, and turkey week giveaways, and gets into some classic MeatEater tangents and spirited debates—especially over the nuances of vocabulary. The winner earns a $500 conservation donation to the organization of their choice.
Throughout, camaraderie and classic MeatEater ribbing are on full display; here are the episode's most memorable trivia segments:
Brody vs. The Dictionary:
Brody: “I think this is the most intellectually bankrupt question and answer you’ve ever asked on this show.” (37:52)
Playful Self-Deprecation:
Yanni (on gear): “For my cigarettes. I don’t want to have to drop my mask down to have my smoke.” (12:45)
Spencer (on trivia results): “Game on, suckers!” (14:29)
MacGyver Nostalgia:
Spencer: “He is a secret agent who uses unconventional tools for genius-level problem solving ... at some point in the series, becomes a vegetarian and starts working endangered species cases.” (42:59)
Mercury Retrograde & Mood Swings:
Nate: “I got this right because my mom used to say this to justify her doing crazy stuff.” (52:54)
Brody: “My previous outburst was during retrograde!” (53:44)

The episode is a classic blend of sharp outdoor knowledge, friendly one-upmanship, inside jokes about turkey hunting and field gear, running gags (cigarette slots in masks, expired captain’s licenses), and spirited, sometimes pedantic, but always playful debates about semantics. The rhythm is both quick-witted and authentic, making the quiz as much about storytelling and camaraderie as about facts.
If you want a blend of outdoor expertise, field-tested wisdom, classic American trivia competition, and unapologetic humor (with a healthy side of debate over definitions), this episode is a pitch-perfect sample. Whether you’re interested in why sandhill cranes mate for life, how to win a $13,000 turkey hunting prize pack, why "germinate" triggered the most intense debate in MeatEater Trivia history, or just want a laugh as the crew lovingly roasts each other, this show delivers. And conservation wins in the end.
“MeatEater Trivia: where conservation always wins…even if definitions are up for grabs.”
