The DOJ charging the mayor of Arcadia, California on Monday with one count of acting in the United States as an illegal agent of a foreign government. 58 year old Eileen Wang resigning from her position and agreeing to plead guilty beginning in 2020 and continuing through at least the end of 2022. The DOJ alleges Wang and her then fiance Mike Sun, a Chinese national, ran U.S. news Center, a site presenting as a legitimate news outlet but allegedly used to publish pro China content under the direction of Chinese government officials. In February, sun, who also worked on Wang's election campaign, sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the scheme. Wang elected to the city council in November 2022, serving as mayor on a rotating basis. Arcadia is an LA county city where Asian Americans make up nearly 60% of the population. In one June 2021 example, prosecutors say a Chinese government official sent Wang pre written articles for U.S. news center, including an essay denying genocide and forced labor in Xinyang, the western Chinese region at the center of Beijing's crackdown on Uyghur Muslims. Within minutes, Wang allegedly posted the article to the site, then sent the Chinese official a link to the piece. The Chinese official responding, quote, so fast. Thank you everyone. Wang's lawyers releasing a statement this week emphasizing that the alleged misconduct took place in her personal capacity, not as an elected official, and putting the blame on her former fiance. From the statement quote, events in Ms. Wang's personal life, including her trust and love for apparently the wrong person who ultimately led her astray, require her to step away from public service. She apologizes and is sorry for the mistakes she has made in her personal life. Her love and devotion for the Arcadia community have not changed and did not waver. Wang's engagement to sun reportedly ending in the spring of 2024. Assistant U.S. attorney Amanda Elbigan, who is prosecuting this case, speaking to CBS News LA on Monday. These are all things where transparency is paramount and the campaign that China is engaging in, in enlisting agents here who are not acting overtly really undermines our national security and it undermines the democratic fabric of our society. The Arcadia City Council releasing a statement on Monday, quote, following an internal review, we can confirm that no city finances, staff or decision making processes are were involved. A new mayor will be selected from the remaining City Council members at the next council meeting. Councilmember Sharon Kwan speaking Monday to CBS News. You know, unfortunately I think this has damaged public confidence, but I also believe al Qaeda is resilient. We can move forward being honest, transparent and, you know, committed to accountability. Wang making an initial court appearance on Monday. She is expected to officially enter her guilty plea in the coming weeks. She faces a maximum of 10 years in prison. FBI Director Cash Patel appearing yesterday before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee to testify on the bureau's 2027 budget request. Democrats quickly turning the budget hearing toward Patel's own record after weeks of unflattering headlines about the director's conduct, judgment and use of government resources. Patel facing scrutiny over reports that he has frequently used government aircraft for personal travel. In February, Director Patel drawing negative attention after he was seen inside the TEAM USA locker room following the men's Olympic hockey team's gold medal win over Canada, chugging a beer in celebration with the team. In April, the Atlantic publishing a deeply critical story, citing current and former FBI officials who described Patel as increasingly absent from the bureau's day to day operations while raising concerns about his drinking and management style. Patel now suing the magazine for 250 million, alleging defamation. Ranking member of the committee Senator Chris Van Hollen, Democrat from Maryland, going after the director in a blistering opening statement.
Senator Chris Van Hollen
I look forward to hearing about the various budget requests, but we should acknowledge that we are not gathered here at this hearing at a normal time because what we are learning about what's happening at the FBI is anything but normal. Director Patel, as you ask for more taxpayer resources, we cannot look away from the credible, extremely troubling reports about your misconduct at the FBI and Director Patel. These reports about your conduct, including reports of your being so drunk and hungover that your staff had to force entry into your home, are extremely alarming. If true, they demonstrate a gross dereliction of your duty and a betrayal of public trust.
Megyn Kelly
Director Patel briefly addressing the allegations in his opening statement, dismissing them as baseless and pointing to a series of FBI stats he says show major progress under his leadership, including stopping four terrorist attacks last December alone across California, Pennsylvania, Texas and New York. Patel also pointing to the Bureau's work protecting children.
FBI Director Kash Patel
We've also seen unprecedented progress in protecting our most vulnerable, our children. In 2025, we located more 6,300 missing kids. That's a 30% increase from 2024. And we arrested more than 2,000 child predators and human traffickers in 2025. That's a 17% increase from 2024. We also wiped out 4 million pedophile accounts off the dark web entirely. And we also focused in on the 764 network. Those who especially Target our youth and are vulnerable online.
Megyn Kelly
The most heated exchanges coming with Senator Van Hollen.
Senator Chris Van Hollen
Multiple reports, including reporting by the Atlantic have alleged episodes of excessive drinking, unexplained absences and behavior that concern current and former FBI and DOJ officials. You have publicly denied those allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit. So today, as you testify before Congress, is it your testimony that those allegations are categorically false?
FBI Director Kash Patel
Unequivocally, categorically false.
Senator Chris Van Hollen
So there have been no occasions during your tenure when FBI personnel were unable to promptly reach you?
FBI Director Kash Patel
Absolutely not. You can ask my entire workforce. Unlike, unlike baseless reports. The only person that was slinging margaritas in El Salvador on the taxpayer dollar with a convicted gang banging rapist was you. You know the only person that ran up a thousand dollar bar tab in Washington D.C. at the lobby was you.
Senator Chris Van Hollen
This individual in this room allegations drinking
FBI Director Kash Patel
on taxpayer dime during polygraphing you.
Senator Chris Van Hollen
Director Patel. Come on.
Megyn Kelly
Patel there referencing Senator Van Hollen's 2025 trip to El Salvador to meet with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the then deported Salvadoran National Democrats branded as just quote Maryland man, despite the Trump administration identifying him as an MS.13 gang member, wife beater and alleged human trafficker. Photos from the meeting showing margaritas on the table, though Senator Van Hollen maintains the drinks were placed there by Salvadoran officials and neither man touched them. Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana later stepping in to give Patel room to defend his travel.
FBI Director Kash Patel
One of my colleagues talks, Director Patel, about you traveling too much. Is it important that you go out there and travel and talk to our line agents and try to maintain morale? That's, that's one of the most important parts of the job. And if I can, when it comes to travel, I've actually traveled one third less for personal holidays than my prior two predecessors combined. And I've taken half as many days off as my prior predecessors combined. Have you ever seen United States senators travel, including overseas? Frequently. You've seen that? Yes, sir.

Mkakelean.com A temporary ban on federal Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers set to expire this summer as President Trump signals Republicans may not have the votes or the will to extend it on July 4th of last year. President Trump signing the One Big beautiful bill act, the bill narrowly passing through reconciliation. That's a special budget process allowing legislation to bypass a Senate filibuster and pass with a simple majority as long as it meets certain budget rules. Included in the law, a one year provision blocking Medicaid payments from going to certain abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest such provider. That restriction set to expire on July 4, meaning unless lawmakers act federal Medicaid dollars, meaning your money could once again flow to Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics covered by the provision. President Trump Monday in the Oval asked if he wants Republicans to use reconciliation again to extend the ban. Your One big beautiful bill defunded Planned Parenthood for one year, but that expires
Marion Ryan
on this July 4th. Would you like Congress to use reconciliation?
FBI Director Kash Patel
Well, we'll see what happens. Congress is now negotiating. We've been very good for the people that want it, for the people that are here. And we'll see how that goes. It's been a very thorny, to put it to put it mildly, it's been a very thorny issue. It's under it's all under negotiation right

now before the big beautiful bill. Planned parenthood receiving roughly $800 million a year in taxpayer funding, primarily through federal health programs, according to FOX News at the time. The Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson warning the funding loss could force roughly 200 clinics to close. Ultimately, 51 of Planned Parenthood's health centers closed across 18 states in 2025 as some Democrat led states announced new funding to help offset the loss of federal dollars. Now Congress preparing a new reconciliation package. President Trump setting a June 1 deadline for that bill to reach his desk. Republican leaders hinting at a slimmed down package focusing on border security and immigration enforcement. The Washington examiner reporting House Speaker Mike Johnson is not considering extending the Medicaid funding ban for Planned Parenthood in this bill. A man came, went around his car and pulled open my car door and made like a barricade. He had a gun and he told me to run and I ran and then I just ran as fast as I could.

DA Ryan declining to name the Marine for privacy reasons, but crediting him and the trooper with ending the attack. Within minutes, Ryan outlining the charges and the status of the investigation.

Mr. Brown is in custody at the hospital. He's going to be charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, possession charges with respect to the weapon, as well as a variety of other charges. As we unfold what took place exactly and we have a chance to speak to the many, many people who were out there.

Boston.com reporting on Brown's extensive rap sheet prior to Monday's assault. According to the outlet, Brown was on probation for firing multiple rounds at Boston police officers in May 2020, despite prosecutors requesting a 10 to 12 year sentence. Judge Janet L. Sanders sentencing Brown to five to six years with credit for time served. Boston 25 News reporting. Brown was on both parole and probation supervision at the time of this latest shooting, stemming from a long list of prior offenses including armed assault with intent to murder firearms charges and witness intimidation, according to parole board documents obtained by the station. Brown had been released from jail last May to serve the rest of his five to six year sentence under parole supervision. A Massachusetts parole officer reportedly contacting the Boston PD about an hour before the shooting, the officer raising concerns after a phone call with Brown in which Brown self reported relapsing into drug use and said he intended to end his own life. Brown had been released from a local psychiatric hospital on Friday, the DA saying on Monday investigators did not find a connection between Brown and any of the people he targeted in the attack.
