The defense resting yesterday in the murder trial of Carmelo Anthony following the prosecution resting its case in a rare Saturday court session. The defense beginning the day calling a teenage witness to the standard. This witness, a member of the Centennial High track and football teams, along with the defendant Anthony. The witness testifying that Anthony's team did not have its own tent at the rainy meet and had been moving around the stadium as the weather shifted. The witness going on to say he later saw Anthony sitting in the bleachers under the Memorial High School tent, which appeared crowded. At first, the witness testifying nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Then he heard yelling. The witness saying, people under the tent stopped watching the meat and turned toward the commotion. As he walked closer, the witness testifying he saw arms reach out and make contact with Anthony. Moments later, he said the crowd got louder, people started standing up and he saw Austin Metcalfe lift his shirt and say he had been stabbed. The witness saying, anthony was crying and quote, there was a coach kind of comforting him. The defense asking, quote, you could hear him crying? The witness replying, quote, yes, sir. I heard him saying, I told him not to touch me. The defense following up, quote, how was he distraught? The witness replying, quote, yes, very distraught. But on cross. Prosecutors working to turn the defense's witness into a liability. The state focusing on the timeline and whether the witness had mixed up what happened before the stabbing with what happened after. The prosecutor asking, quote, you had a few things wrong when we talked, isn't that right? The witness answering, quote, yes, sir. Prosecutors then pressing him on his earlier statement to police when he described seeing Anthony surrounded. The witness acknowledging that what he described to police as Anthony being surrounded must have happened after Metcalf had already been stabbed. The prosecutor asking whether the witness had, quote, a story in your head before watching video of the confrontation. The witness again answering, quote, yes. And when the prosecutor asked whether watching the video opened his eyes to what actually happened. The witness replying again, quote, yes. Prosecutors then playing surveillance video from the stadium showing the witness was not looking at the Memorial High School tent at the time of the stabbing. Following another witness's testimony. An unusual pause in the proceedings. The judge and attorneys holding a private sidebar before breaking for lunch. That lunch break then stretching for about three hours with no immediate explanation. When court finally resumed, the defense announcing it was resting its case, meaning Anthony would not take the stand. A surprise development in a case in which the defense is self defense. The judge then dismissing jurors for the day. Closing arguments set to begin later today. At that point, the jury will be sequestered through deliberations. Anthony charged with murder, facing five to 99 years if convicted of the first degree felony. We spoke to MK True Crime show host Phil Holloway about how he thinks things went for the defense in general.
Phil Holloway
I would say that the defense in the Carmelo Anthony trial isn't really getting the job done for their client. We had lots of witnesses who, even defense witnesses who testified that quote, I think Carmelo was in the wrong. They even went so far as to say that Carmelo Anthony provoked the confrontation. And of course, under the law of Texas, as is the case in basically every state, if you are the person that provokes the confrontation, you cannot legally avail yourself of the defense of the self defense. So on balance, I don't think it went well for the defense. I think the prosecutor has basically everything to gain at this point. And I think that unless we have a stealth juror, that is someone who sort of unlawfully injects themselves onto the jury by not being honest during jury selection, I think this is probably a win for the prosecution.
Megyn Kelly
Holloway suggesting the defense performed so poorly it raised questions about their trial preparation.
Phil Holloway
On my show, the MK True Crime show, today, we'll be talking about this issue of whether or not the defense lawyers were actually prepared enough because there's been some reporting that they were, you know, texting with the families of some of these witnesses within the last several days and things of that nature. We of course don't know what the lawyers did to prepare for trial, but it just seems that in so many instances they were caught off guard and surprised by what witnesses said or witnessed. Witnesses have said things that were completely contrary to the theory that they're trying to convince the jury of that. It just raises the question of was this money spent on an adequate defense or was it wasted in some other way?
Megyn Kelly
Holloway also flagging broader concerns regarding Anthony's defense strategy with his team arguing self defense, while at times floating alternate theories that could carry real risk with the jury.
Phil Holloway
It's not unheard of for a defense team to use alternate theories of defense. In this case, we've seen them using self defense, but we also saw them basically implying that the victim may have impaled himself. Now that's a very risky strategy because a jury can be offended by it. In this case, there's been no evidence there's been no suggestion by any witness that anybody was responsible for the stabbing other than Carmelo Anthony. So you've got to be very careful as a matter of trial strategy not to offend the jury when you say things. It's got to be backed up by some evidence. And I think on this case and in this instance, I think they risked and in fact did offend the jury. And that's never a good look for a defense counsel.
Megyn Kelly
As for the biggest strategic choice of the day, the defense resting without Anthony taking the stand.
Phil Holloway
Of course a defendant has every right to remain silent, but it's as a practical matter almost unheard of to claim self defense without having the defendant take the stand and tell the jury that in his mind he felt that he had no choice but to use not just force, but lethal force to propel a lethal threat. He needs to defend against a lethal threat or he can't legally claim self defense. So if the defendant doesn't take the stand to tell the jury that and the witnesses haven't done it, it's, it's a real head scratcher as to how the defense is going to get a jury instruction on the issue of self defense.

An uneasy pause for now between Israel and Iran after another round of missile fire from both sides over the weekend. The latest flare up beginning after an alleged attack by the Iranian backed Hezbollah in northern Israel. And then Israel's response striking what it described as a Hezbollah site on the southern outskirts of Beirut. Iran then firing ballistic missiles toward Israel, saying Israel had violated the conditions of the broader ceasefire by continuing strikes in Lebanon. President Trump publicly urging Iran to stop there, warning the regime in a Fox News interview, quote, you've shot your missiles, that's enough. Get back to the table and make a deal. President Trump also moving to restrain Israel, reportedly calling Prime Minister Netanyahu, urging him not to answer with another round of strikes. President Trump saying a deal might be reached in a few days if they could de escalate the conflict. But Israel did not accede to President Trump's demands. Early Monday, Israel launching strikes inside Iran targeting military sites and a petrochemical facility. Iran then responding with more missile fire. Israeli outlets reporting all missiles were intercepted by defense systems. Yesterday morning. President Trump posting to Truth Social, quote, israel and Iran must immediately stop, quote, shooting, then adding in a follow up post, quote, both sides, Israel and Iran are looking to do an immediate ceasefire. Final negotiations on peace are proceeding subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way. The blockade will remain in place and in full force and effect until a final deal is reached, things should move quickly. Later in the day, Iranian Central Military Command HQ releasing a statement indicating Iranian armed forces will suspend operations. The warning of, quote, harsher and crushing measures if Israeli operations continue, including in southern Lebanon. Prime Minister Netanyahu rounding out the day releasing a lengthy statement on X announcing Israel will hold its fire too. For now. Fox News voicing over part of that statement here.

held because after we struck the terror regime in Tehran, it ceased attacking us. Should the terror regime make the mistake of attacking us again, we will respond with force because Israel has the full right to self defense and we will exercise it as much as necessary. So for the moment, the missiles have stopped and negotiators continue working toward a broader peace deal. President Trump last night at a telerally in support of Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican from South Carolina, saying the US Will be able to declare, quote, total victory over Iran within the next two weeks, a time frame he has used several times since the war began in late February, including in his primetime address more than two months ago. The Philippines rocked by a major earthquake yesterday, killing at least 35 people, injuring more than 200 and leaving widespread damage across the country's south. The 7.8 magnitude quake striking just after 7:30 Monday morning local time in the Celebes Sea off Mindanao, the second most populous island in the Philippines. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reporting the quake occurred about 20 miles beneath the sea floor generating a small tsunami. The largest wave measuring about 3ft. With tsunami warnings later lifted. But on land, the damage severe, the shaking sending residents running into the streets, damaging buildings and roads and triggering landslides in parts of the region. The Scientific American reporting at least 1 million people experienced severe shaking from the quake. Of the victims, 12 villagers killed in a landslide triggered by the force of the quake. The AP reporting most of the other deaths resulting from collapsing buildings and falling debris. At least a dozen people have been reported missing per the BBC. The quake ranking amongst the strongest recorded anywhere in the world so far this year per the U.S. geological Survey records ABC News. In this 2023 package breaking down just how much force a 7.8 magnitude earthquake can unleash.
ABC News Reporter
That number, by the way, 7.8 is a measure taken from something called the Moment Magnitude scale. That's a scale most seismologists use to quantify just how much energy was released and how big an earthquake was. The difference between each magnitude magnitude isn't exactly a straight line though. It's a logarithmic scale which means each step up the scale is 10 times more shaking and 32 times more energy released. So a 7.0 magnitude earthquake is roughly 1,000 times stronger than a 5.0 and a 7.8 is 15 times stronger than that. It's the equivalent of around 15, 15 billion kilos of TNT exploding at once.

On the ground, residents describing a terrifying scene. Journalist Jaztine Jubalag telling ABC News Australia the quake felt unlike anything he had experienced before.
Jaztine Jubalag
It was very unreal. It was the first time I have experienced a lot of earthquakes during my, in my lifetime. But this is, this one is very surreal. I was born and raised here and since time immemorial, since I was a kid, I already experienced a lot of earthquakes here. But this one is very surreal. Yeah, it's very traumatic since I am living in a two story building. So I'm, I might get very anxious and probably will be sleeping downstairs.

Tonight, a new study adding to the growing evidence that GLP1 drugs may help with issues far beyond diabetes and weight loss. With researchers finding a possible link between the medications and lower breast cancer rates. The study out of the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine analyzing health records from more than 110,000 women finding those who took GLP1 medications were about 30% less likely to develop breast cancer than women who did not. The findings presented last week at the 2026American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual meeting, a major global gathering for cancer doctors and researchers. Researchers led by Dr. Elizabeth McDonald examining Penn Medicine records from women aged 45 to 80 who had breast imaging done between January of 2022 and June of 2025. All of the women had a BMI or body mass index of 25 or higher, meaning they meet the medical threshold for being overweight. Just over 15,000 of the women had GLP1 prescriptions and about 96,000 did not. Researchers then testing the association in two ways, first across the entire patient group, then again in a smaller comparison, pairing each GLP1 user with a similar woman based on age, race, ethnicity, bmi, breast density and diabetes status in an effort to limit bias. The pattern holding in both groups. ABC News Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Tara Narula explaining the science behind the possible
Dr. Tara Narula
connection first of all, we know that overweight or obesity is associated with breast cancer risk, particularly in postmenopausal women. So before menopause, the ovaries produce most of your estrogen, fat cells produce a little bit, but after menopause your fat cells produce the estrogen for the majority of women who are again postmenopausal. And that circulating higher level of estrogen could fuel breast cancer. That's number one. Number two, overweight or obesity is is a pro inflammatory state. We know that inflammation is associated with risk of cancers and obesity is associated with elevated insulin. Insulin has also been shown to drive certain cancers, particularly breast cancer. So when you think about what the GLP do reduce weight, reduce inflammation and help with insulin sensitivity, it makes sense that that could potentially have an effect on the risk of breast cancer.
Megyn Kelly
The breast cancer study is the latest in a series of Observational studies linking GLP1 use to lower cancer risks or better outcomes in some cancer patients. But the biggest question now whether this is just an interesting pattern in the data or something GLP1 drugs are actually helping cause. So far, much of the evidence has come from studies looking backward at existing health records. Now Dr. McDonald saying in an interview posted by E Cancer that her team is moving into the next phase, designing a clinical trial to test the hypothesis directly.
Dr. Elizabeth McDonald
We've spent the last year, along with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, the American College of Radiology and the TMIST Clinical Trial Group, that's the mammographic screening trial that's currently ongoing to design and develop a clinical trial to test whether these drugs are causal in reducing the incidence of breast cancer. So even though GLP1 agonists have been shown to impact multiple different cancer types lung, colon, breast, liver and even leukemia, the ideal format for the clinical trial is to look at breast cancer incidence because breast is such a common cancer, impacting one in eight women. So you can have enough events to power the clinical trial with the least amount of people,

Episode: Karmelo Anthony Defense Implodes, Massive Philippines Earthquake, GLP-1 Cancer Study
Host: Megyn Kelly | SiriusXM
This AM update covers three key stories:
The tone is brisk, direct, and often critical—true to Megyn Kelly’s brand of “no BS” analysis and reporting.
A teenage witness (team member of defendant and victim) stated both football teams were moving around due to rain.
"At first, the witness testifying nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Then he heard yelling."
Described seeing Anthony crying after the incident, saying:
"I heard him crying. I told him not to touch me. [...] Yes, very distraught."
(Cross-examined at ~04:00–05:00)
On cross-examination, prosecutors called into question his recollections, using surveillance video to show he may not have actually witnessed the stabbing.
Prosecutor: "You had a few things wrong when we talked, isn’t that right?"
Witness: "Yes, sir."
No direct testimony or clear evidence supported that Anthony acted in self-defense.
Holloway is sharply critical of the defense, saying:
"I would say that the defense in the Carmelo Anthony trial isn’t really getting the job done for their client. We had lots of witnesses who, even defense witnesses, testified that 'I think Carmelo was in the wrong.'" (06:12)
Regarding the defense team’s preparation:
"It just seems in so many instances they were caught off guard and surprised by what witnesses said or witnessed. Was this money spent on an adequate defense or was it wasted in some other way?" (07:17)
On defense tactics:
"They also basically implied the victim may have impaled himself. Now that’s a very risky strategy because a jury can be offended by it... I think they risked and in fact did offend the jury." (08:16)
On the choice not to have Anthony testify:
"It’s almost unheard of to claim self-defense without having the defendant take the stand and tell the jury that... If the defendant doesn’t take the stand to tell the jury that, and the witnesses haven’t done it, it’s a real head-scratcher as to how the defense is going to get a jury instruction on... self-defense." (09:12)
"On balance, I don’t think it went well for the defense. I think the prosecutor has basically everything to gain at this point... I think this is probably a win for the prosecution." (06:47)
President Trump, via Fox News and Truth Social:
“You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough. Get back to the table and make a deal…Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting’, both sides…peace…proceeding subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way…” (Trump statements at 10:27–11:21)
Iranian and Israeli military command both then issued statements about temporary “holds” on further attacks, with warnings about consequences should hostilities resume.
Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statement (via Fox News voiceover):
“Currently the fire on this front is held because after we struck the terror regime in Tehran, it ceased attacking us. Should the terror regime make the mistake of attacking us again, we will respond with force because Israel has the full right to self-defense…” (12:06)
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines, in the Celebes Sea off Mindanao, early Monday morning local time.
At least 35 killed, over 200 injured, with severe infrastructure damage, landslides, and a brief tsunami (wave measured at 3 feet).
~1 million people experienced severe shaking.
“A 7.8 is 15 times stronger than a 7.0, and it's the equivalent of around 15 billion kilos of TNT exploding at once.” (15:52)
“It was very unreal. It was the first time I have experienced a lot of earthquakes during my lifetime. But this one is very surreal… It's very traumatic since I am living in a two story building. I might get very anxious and probably will be sleeping downstairs.” (16:52)
“Overweight or obesity is associated with breast cancer risk, particularly in postmenopausal women. […] GLP-1s may reduce weight, reduce inflammation, and help with insulin sensitivity, so it makes sense that that could potentially have an effect on the risk of breast cancer.” (18:59)
“We've spent the last year…to design and develop a clinical trial to test whether these drugs are causal in reducing the incidence of breast cancer… Breast is such a common cancer, impacting one in eight women, so you can have enough events to power the clinical trial…” (20:20)
Phil Holloway, on the defense’s poor showing:
"Even defense witnesses testified, ‘I think Carmelo was in the wrong.’" (06:14)
"A head-scratcher as to how the defense is going to get a jury instruction on self-defense." (09:12)
Jaztine Jubalag, earthquake survivor:
"This one is very surreal… I might get very anxious and probably will be sleeping downstairs." (16:52)
Dr. Tara Narula, on breast cancer mechanisms:
"Overweight or obesity is a pro-inflammatory state… inflammation is associated with risk of cancers." (18:59)
President Trump on Israel-Iran conflict:
"Get back to the table and make a deal. Israel and Iran must immediately stop 'shooting'…" (10:56–11:12)
