Canada is absolutely furious at the despicable Trump regime. And Canada is preparing to defend itself from a possible Trump invasion. Canada sees what Donald Trump is doing in the Western Hemisphere, what Donald Trump is doing in the Middle East, Donald Trump's catastrophic and unlawful war in Iran, Donald Trump's threats to Cuba, Donald Trump's threats in the Western Hemisphere, the way that Donald Trump is currently the mocking and attacking Canada while Canada suffers from horrible climate related wildfires and how Trump and MAGA are using the wildfires as a pretext to attack Canada and try to take Canada's sovereignty to pursue Donald Trump's 51st state conquest of Canada. This isn't hyperbole. You know, international audiences may go, oh well, he's not going to do that. The people of Canada, Prime Minister Carney are not taking chances, okay? They are building up their military defenses. They are building up their drone manufacturing. They are ensuring the Canadians are ensuring that they produce their military equipment in Canada, that their alliances are increasingly focused on Europe and certain reliable countries in Asia and elsewhere and not the United States. And Canada remains vigilant. And if you've been watching Prime Minister Carney's recent press conferences, or I should say his press conference, really throughout the year it has been about Canada ensuring that it has the military to defend itself from anything, to also build up the kind of Arctic strength and alliances as well, to defend in the Arctic and to defend at home. And the subtext, or the not so subtle subtext in this is that if the Trump regime attempts to do anything, Canada is ready and Canada will be strong. And you know, just a glimpse into how despicable this Trump regime is is just look at what's happened this week. I mean, in addition to Donald Trump trying to further shake the Canadians down over a bridge project that was always agreed to. I mean, just look at the response to the wildfires, right? Climate related wildfires. Whereas Canada and Canadians would always come right to the defense of people in the United States and help put out the fires. I mean, recently a Canadian man was identified as a helicopter pilot fighting the Gold Mountain fire. I mean, literally sacrificing their lives for people in the United States. Donald Trump has been threatening to raise tariffs over Canadian wildfire smoke. Donald Trump posted a deranged social media message. We're holding Canada responsible for the fact that they're not properly maintaining the forest and brush therein. And the United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted and unhealthy air, the quality of which is dangerous and totally unacceptable. I will call the Prime Minister during the day to find out what they are going to do about it. The cost is incalculable. Canada has refused to engage in basic forest management and debris removal, knowing that such refusal will lead to exactly this result. This is willful negligence and becoming a yearly occurrence costing the United States billions of doll which the cost of pollution must of necessity be added to tariffs Canada is currently paying. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Donald J. Trump. By the way, everything that Donald Trump is saying there, you know, is absolutely false. But Donald Trump is using the wildfires as a pretext to basically attack Canadian sovereignty, which Donald Trump has been trying to do since day one. And then the MAGA sycophants like MAGA Republican Tim Sheehy says, as a former water bomber pilot who, who used to lead an aerial firefighting fleet, I can tell you send help is an extremely dishonest framing by the Canadian government. I mean, just think about how sicko these magos are. Send help. What a dishonest framing. A dishonest framing. Canada, which used to be and should always be as close to the United States as possible, is saying, hey, can you send help? What a dishonest framing. This is why these magas are just horrible and disgusting, disgusting human beings. Send help. What an awful framing of the issue. How about you just do what neighbors have always done? Why don't you do what Canada does here for the United States? And then Donald Trump, this sicko scumbag goes. Tim Sheehy is great, a winner. Djt it's the cruelty, it's the evil. I've been reflecting more on this and by the way, I Put this in the book WTF America, pre order it right now. Because I look at this stuff and I go, wtf? And I think about how for some of the younger folks out there, this is all they've seen, this nastiness. What terrible framing is that? Send help? No, no, helping people, having empathy, caring for each other and not this ridiculous 51st rhetoric. And then it's also paired with the whining, right? When Canada stands up in the United States, all of a sudden, you know, sees our hospitality jobs are decreasing. The Canadians don't want to travel here. Canada, Canadians don't want to be in the United States. They don't want to buy American booze. Then what happens? You've got all the Trump officials who are like that' Unfair. Why are they doing that? Why are they behaving like that? Because Trump regime, you're literally trying to torture the Canadian people and you're trying to invade and take over their land. That's why. Then you have people like Senator Bernie Moreno from Ohio and he tells state regime media Fox, he goes, and now as a result of this, we will be sanctioning Canada. We will be holding their assets, making sure they don't have visas and we will put tariffs on. Just think about that. When I say the U. The Trump regime is talking about invasion, I mean think about what they're saying right here. Are you going to take away the visas of Canadian people? Because there's a climate related wildfire and the Canadians help the Americans and you want to use a wildfire as a time to behave like absolute deranged, terroristic maniacs Americans. Here, play this clip of what he says. Play this clip.
Donald Trump (quoted)
And when I hear politicians like Carney and Ford so that we should help when they could have avoided this problem, it's disgusting. We're going to put sanctions on them. That means holding their assets, making certain that they don't have visas. We're going to put tariffs as President Trump talked about it, because we have to make certain that the people who are suffering get compensated. This is an abject avoidable disaster. And the left who by the way talks about climate change every single day, this is the worst environmental disaster you could ever imagine. Every car in America for a year, pollution in three weeks dumped on the Midwest.
Host/Commentator
And then you have our propaganda network state regime media, which calls itself Fox, you know, then they go out there and they're like, they're like, you know, you never hear about the Canadian dream and then you always just the American dream. Once you get a taste of our freedom here. You don't want to go back. You know, no one talks about the Canadian dream. I mean, again, what imbecilic show is this the stupidest thing I've ever even heard. What are you talking about? People love living in Canada. What do you, what does it even mean? Here, play this clip.
Donald Trump (quoted)
There's a lot of people that talk about us, but once they get the experience, freedom, they love it. And so it's just interesting that we have so many people invading our border to get here because they want this American dream. You never hear about the Canadian dream. You never hear about the UK dream. You never hear about the Venezuelan dream.
Interviewer/Producer
Preach.
Host/Commentator
You never hear you have to wait 30 days for a medical appointment.
Jameson Greer
That's not the case.
Donald Trump (quoted)
Canadian dream is.
Host/Commentator
And of course, earlier this week, Donald Trump was posting weird AI photos of himself or AI photos of the poster board of the Western hemisphere with Canada having the American flag over it. As Donald Trump talks about taking over Canada and he creates the scene where he's speaking with NATO allies. It was a real meeting from last year. But the poster board was of Ukraine and Russia, not of Donald Trump showing NATO allies a poster of him conquering Canada. And then this is where you have the whining to Jameson Greer on the Canadian U.S. mexico Agreement negotiations, on the Kuzma negotiations. I mean this Jameson Greer guy too, he's the US Trade Representative. Such a weasel. He's like, well I think that we should, you know, Canada likes to talk. I mean, who are these losers? As I always say, friggin wtf. Who, who is this guy? Jameson Greer is such a frickin loser.
Interviewer/Producer
Here, play this.
Jameson Greer
Cl I'm in contact with my counterparts on a weekly basis over the past year. Like with other countries, I've given lots of proposals to the Canadians on things that could be done immediately to put us in a better position. The Canadians are always willing to talk, right? Like many countries that we're happy to talk, that's fine, I'm happy. You're always happy to talk. That's not a concession. That's just what we do as diplomats or economic negotiators. So to me that's not really, that's not a concession, that's not movement. That's just describing what we do now, which is talk. So we have, we just haven't seen a lot of movement. They had, there are a couple things that Canadians have done. You know, they had a digital services tax they proposed and rolled back. They had an online streaming act where they wanted to force American companies to fund Canadian companies that they rolled back. I'm glad they did that. But they don't really get credit for doing something bad and then undoing it. Right. That's just good practice on their part.
Shopify Narrator
So you don't want to give a, an under over of how long it's going to take with the Canadians.
Jameson Greer
I don't know. I don't want to get ahead of them. I mean, the reality is if the President, Prime Minister Carney have an understanding, I'm sure we can put together something that makes sense to get us over the hump. We're always going to trade some with Canada. Right. I mean, just because they're there. Right. The reality is the President's quite focused again getting the trade deficit down with Canada, which it is down by 25% and he wants to listen. It's less about being anti any country and just more pro America and making sure we have as many of these supply chains here in the United States.
Host/Commentator
Now contrast that to Prime Minister Carney. And Carney talks about, you know, if for a stronger, safer world, we need a stronger Canada.

If we are to assert our full sovereignty in the Arctic and if we're to defend and promote our values of freedom, democracy, peace, we must do so from a position of strength. If we want a stronger world, if we want a safer world, we need a stronger Canada.
Host/Commentator
And at this press conference that Prime Minister Carney had, he talks about again, new fleets being announced, being made 100% in Canada. I'll play this clip for you right here.
Interviewer/Producer
And the new fleet order that we're announcing today will continue that legacy, serving our women and men in uniform at bases across the country. Every single one, every single one will be built right here at GDLS Canada's factory right here in London. Our new partnership with GDLS Canada will create and sustain over 6,000 high paying Canadian jobs every year over the next eight years.

I want to bring on the leader of Midas Canada, Charlie Angus, to talk about this moment, about how, you know, Canada has increased the size of its military, its defense readiness. By the way, it's defense. Canada's ready to defend itself. Canada doesn't want to go, you know, to war with the United, but Canada sure as hell ready to defend itself. And if you know anything about Canadian history, when Canada has to fight fascists, they've been first. And Maple Midas knows what I'm talking about. All right, let's bring in my interview with Charlie Angus, former Member of Parliament, leader of Midas can. Let's bring in Angus
Interviewer/Host
now. I want to bring in Charlie Angus, leader of Midas Canada. Charlie, great to see you as always. Now, the Trump regime continues to use new tactics to try to implement their 51st state invasion of Canada. When something doesn't work, they use something else. I mean, even right now, thinking about how the Trump regime is using these horrific and tragic fires in Canada as also a tool to try to sanction Canada and attack Canada, you're seeing Trump and MAGA plot that way. You know, also when it comes to the Gordie Howe Bridge, also you know, when it comes to secession, also when it comes to, you know, again pulling out of the trade agreement, I mean, it's still a relentless barrage. And then, Charlie, it is the Trump regime playing victim. If Canada stands up for itself, then you'll hear the Trump people, oh, my God, can you believe it? They're doing this, or Canada's boycotting this or they don't want to show up. I mean, what do you make of this moment?
Charlie Angus
Well, Ben, I think this is the real issue here is to recognize that this is constant, constant pressure where our sovereignty is always on the line. So, you know, there's been a lot of talk here about with the fact that Donald Trump basically ripped up the agreement that had been in place for over a dozen years to build that Gordie Howe Bridge, saying that America had been ripped off when Canada put the money up. There was an agreement with Michigan, there was an agreement with both governments going back for years. This was all about intimidation. And the day after they got the agreement to get the bridge opened, Donald Trump has a meme of Canada with the, with the American flag on it. We have Elridge Colby, the guy who threatened the Pope, warning us that, you know, if we try this middle power stuff, it's going to cost us. Well, I think the cost was, yeah, we'll shut down the bridge. We'll take you on. So now the fire catastrophe that's unfolding is, in some ways it's ridiculous, but I think it's also very, very, very dangerous. Right now we have, you know, these mega politicians basically threatening our sovereignty that they're going to come over the border if we don't fix the climate catastrophe. Well, great. That's how things have always been done. We've always crossed the border to help each other. Right now we're mourning the loss of Nicholas Dale, who died in Aspen, Colorado. A Canadian firefighter was over on the American side helping put out an American fire and died. Yet this is now going to be the latest tactic for threatening the sovereignty of our nation. And we've got to keep our eye on the ball and understand what they're up to all the time.
Interviewer/Host
You know, you see Donald Trump continue to make the posts where he'll do AI images of himself and NATO leaders where he'll show the flag, you know, show the American flag over Canada and Greenland. You know, it is relentless. And I think that one of the things, and you've studied authoritarians and you know, Donald Trump in the same mold, you know, yes, it is psychotic and dangerous, but he doesn't stop. You know, he'll just come at you with a new tactic. He'll take you from there. You know, if you think about it, I mean, on Thursday, he was ranting and raving about the 2020 election. And it's easy to say, look, he's psychotic, he's an idiot, he's deranged, he's a lunatic. But when you study authoritarians like you have your entire life, you know, you repeat the same thing over and over and over and over again. Sometimes the reaction from people is, all right, what do you want from me? Fine, just take this. And then they keep on taking and taking and taking. Speak to that moment of what you're seeing in Canada.
Charlie Angus
Well, what really worries me, Ben, is I think because this is dragging on and on, certainly the average Canadian is not bending. This is why we're seeing the rage, like Claudia Tenney, the Republican maga gal, demanding that we do something to put the booze back on the shelf. It doesn't matter what they do. People are not going to drink it. So the boycott remains really strong. But we see Marco Rubio holding this forum that anybody who's not a fascist, if you're an anti fascist, you're somehow tied with terrorism and the strong army that went on to have Western allies att this. And I'm, you know, very concerned Canada sent somebody. I figure Canada sent somebody because we just want to, you know, not always be fighting with them. But here's the thing, you know, you don't go along with fascism. What this antifa summit is about, criminalizing dissent in the United States. That's what it is. It's about using the power of the state against the American people to crush dissent in the midterms. To do this on the international scale and expect Canadian officials to attend to me is very worrisome. It goes back to the crocodile metaphor of Winston Churchill who said, you know, the collaborators, the person who figures if other people being Eaten by the crocodile, he'll be eaten last. It's this constant, constant pressure, this constant demanding that we go along to survive so that otherwise they're going to hit us harder. That's my concern right now. And I think this thing with the wildfires is a really concerning at some levels it's absolutely ridiculous. I mean there's 45,000 wildfires out happening in the United States right now. Donald Trump has trashed the clean energy regs. But you just need sometimes a symbol to get people angry. Certainly we see how they're using this against us and they're threatening our sovereignty over the fact that climate fire doesn't care what side of the border you're on. And we can't just think, well, we'll explain to them climate science because they don't believe climate science and they don't care about climate science.
Interviewer/Host
Whether it's the NATO summit, ASEAN, G7, wherever. I mean we see Prime Minister Carney with his delegation inking deals. I mean we're seeing the Bombardier Gripen, the Bombardier Saab, the globalized that are being sold. And so, you know, there's a real emphasis. I mean we've always known that when there have been major world wars and when it's fighting fascism, Canada's always not just stepped up, but really has been first to lead. And it's important that, you know, people throughout the world recognize that because it's part of what makes Canada so incredible. But no one thinks about Canada or no one thought about Canada in modern times, as you know, okay, well Canada's got to arm up and build up its military. But I think what we're seeing is while Trump is escalating the war in Iran and Trump has, you know, this genocidal war crime agenda in the Middle east, he then uses that to go around the Western hemisphere to make these threats, whether it's in Cuba, whether it's with extortive measures, working with the Bolsonaro's in Brazil, whether it is, you know, putting in his proxies in Colombia, et cetera. And you've been covering that a lot. Talk to us about both of those things, Charlie. First arming up military and then the overall Western hemisphere dynamic you're seeing.
Charlie Angus
Well, certainly it's been very impressive how Prime Minister Carney, I mean, I disagree with many of the things happening on the home front because I am very, very concerned about the total picture on the, on the international stage, the role Canada is playing with NATO, with our allies and this whole push to create a middle powers alternative. I think in Washington, they see this middle powers move as somehow an attempt to create a power bloc to oppose the United States. It's not. It's about creating an alternative. So we're not being threatened constantly by the United States. I mean, Donald Trump says he doesn't want to have anything to do with NATO. He doesn't want to have anything to do with Canada. So we say, fine, okay, we'll start negotiating with the Europeans. And then they say, hey, whoa, what do you do when you belong under our umbrella? And I think the Gordie Howe Bridge debacle was very much trying to teach us a lesson, because right after you had again, Colby come out and say, this middle power stuff has got to stop. It's going to cost you if you pursue this. It's going to cost you in time and it's going to cost you in money. And so what did they do? They blocked the Gordie Howe Bridge. So they see the real threat from Prime Minister Carney's middle powers initiative. The issue for the Canadian people is to recognize, and we've talked about this, Ben, many times, they're coming for us because they can't have us standing up to them. They're going to give us only so much Runway before we end up in a confrontation moment. So is it the confrontation going to be over whether we send somebody to their antifa as terrorism conference, or is it going to be because they demand that we stop the climate catastrophe that's unfolding, even though, heck, I'm just going to throw this in. The New York Times is reporting that the big fires in northwestern Ontario came over the border from Minnesota. But hey, that's okay because people in northwest Ontario and Minnesota are good friends and we'd help each other out. But what's it going to be for the next level of threat? And we can't lose sight of the fact that as authoritarians, they never, ever ship. They don't become nice down the road and you don't get to sit down with them and try and talk them down. I mean, that was always the mistake. People thought they with Hitler in the early 30s, they didn't think he was that serious. They thought they could bedazzle him with their smarts. These guys are playing on a whole different level of menace, and that's something we can never lose sight of.
Interviewer/Host
Charlie, we've been speaking with each other now for close to two years. As we always end these interviews, I ask you, we know that, we know that the Trump regime watches these interviews. I Mean, they've reached out to you before. So what's your overall message to Trump and his regime right now?
Charlie Angus
Well, Donald, we're watching what's happening with Vladimir Putin and his war going down the tubes, and you backed him 100%. We know that the road is running out for Benjamin Netanyahu, one of your fellow monsters, in terms of the massive damage he's done. And the road is running out for you towards the midterms for whatever comes next. You have never lost sight of your hatred of the Canadian people. But the thing, the reason you hate us, Donald, is because we are Democratic, because we don't buckle and bend, and because you know what? We're basically decent people. We don't go and hang out on Epstein Island. We don't vote for sexual predators. We don't go along with the crooked oligarchs that you look up to and that you worship. So you are going to threaten us. Is it going to be on the Gordie Howe Bridge? Is it going to be on the evacuations and fire zones that are happening? Hey, because you and your government and your oligarch friends thought that getting rid of all of the renewable strategies to lower emissions was going to somehow save you, save your ass. It ain't going to happen, Donald. So we know what's coming. We know that the threat remains. And the idea that we're ever going to buy your booze again. You should go to Kentucky and explain why you continue to fight with us. And you should explain to the American people why you continue to betray them. Because it's coming for you, Donald. Your days are running out, and we will be there to dance when you go down.
Interviewer/Host
I mean, it's a really sick and twisted perspective on everything. I mean, their view is if we abuse people more, if we harm people more, they will want to do deals with us. And, you know, Trump may see that that's their view on everything and just abuse people, and then they'll. Then they'll fall in line.
Charlie Angus
Yeah, they're shocked that because they abuse us, we're not kissing up to them, and it's not going to happen. So we just got to keep holding our ground here, but pay attention to the level of crazy that they're trying to stir against us.
Interviewer/Host

Episode Title: Charlie Angus on Trump’s Threats and Canada’s Response
Date: July 18, 2026
Guests: Charlie Angus (Leader of Meidas Canada, former Canadian MP)
Hosts: Ben, Brett, and Jordy Meiselas
This episode features an urgent and passionate discussion about recent escalating tensions between the United States and Canada under the Trump regime, focusing particularly on Trump’s alarming rhetoric and policies aimed at Canada. The hosts dissect Trump’s threats—ranging from economic sanctions to belittling Canada’s wildfire crisis—while also examining Canada’s military build-up and diplomatic repositioning in response. Charlie Angus, a veteran Canadian politician and commentator, joins the show to deliver an unvarnished Canadian perspective on the current dynamics, warning about the authoritarian playbook Trump is operating from, and stressing the importance of Canadian sovereignty in the face of ongoing provocations.
The episode opens with the hosts expressing outrage at Trump’s “despicable” regime, which has used recent Canadian wildfire smoke as a pretext for threatening tariffs and other economic measures against Canada.
There is an emphasis on Trump’s broader pattern of intimidation: using crises to launch rhetorical or policy attacks, such as suggesting the U.S. should “take Canada as its 51st state” (00:58).
The hosts highlight how Trump and MAGA Republicans are weaponizing Canada’s climate disaster to further an aggressive, sometimes openly hostile, posture toward its ally.
Ben: "Trump is using the wildfires as a pretext to basically attack Canadian sovereignty, which Donald Trump has been trying to do since day one." (02:24)
The hosts and Charlie Angus criticize MAGA-aligned politicians and U.S. state media (Fox News) for dismissing Canada’s requests for help as weak or dishonest, and for belittling the idea of the “Canadian dream.”
Fox hosts are mocked for suggesting nobody aspires to the “Canadian dream,” with the hosts observing that such rhetoric is both childish and dangerous (08:17).
Ben: "What imbecilic show is this?… People love living in Canada. What does it even mean?" (08:17)
Prime Minister Carney’s assertive defense policy is analyzed: increasing military spending, building up domestic arms manufacturing, and shifting alliance focus away from the U.S. toward Europe and Asia (11:45).
Notable highlights of Carney’s speeches underscore a patriotic defense of Canadian values and a commitment to sovereignty.
Prime Minister Carney (clip): "If we want a stronger world, if we want a safer world, we need a stronger Canada." (11:55)
Canada's effort to insulate its military supply chains and jobs domestically is celebrated as a key aspect of this strategy.
Prime Minister Carney (clip): "Every single one [vehicle in the new military fleet] will be built right here at GDLS Canada’s factory... over 6,000 high-paying Canadian jobs every year over the next eight years." (12:30)
Charlie Angus outlines how Trump’s endless stream of provocations—economic and cultural—are all efforts to destabilize Canada and test its resilience (14:39).
Angus draws parallels between Trump’s approach and historic authoritarian tactics, warning that the endgame is to wear down resistance through relentless pressure and manufactured crises (17:24).
Charlie Angus: "It’s this constant, constant pressure, this constant demanding that we go along to survive... Otherwise they’re going to hit us harder." (18:25)
He highlights the seriousness of the current moment, noting how even the tragic death of a Canadian firefighter is being twisted to justify threats against Canada (15:05).
Charlie Angus: "We’re mourning the loss of Nicholas Dale, who died in Aspen, Colorado, a Canadian firefighter... Yet this is now going to be the latest tactic for threatening the sovereignty of our nation." (15:05)
Angus addresses Canadian initiatives to develop ‘middle power’ alliances—especially as the U.S. grows less reliable under Trump. This has included deepening relationships with European nations, and discussions around alternatives to the U.S.-centered trade and military frameworks (21:06).
The hosts and Angus are clear: these moves are not antagonistic, but a rational response to U.S. unpredictability.
Charlie Angus: "It’s about creating an alternative. So we’re not being threatened constantly by the United States... They see the real threat from Prime Minister Carney’s middle powers initiative." (21:31)
Angus delivers a direct, powerful message to Trump, framing Canada’s defiance as rooted in democracy, decency, and a refusal to surrender to authoritarianism (23:55).
Charlie Angus: "You have never lost sight of your hatred of the Canadian people. But the reason you hate us, Donald, is because we are democratic, because we don’t buckle and bend, and because you know what? We’re basically decent people." (24:01)
"We know what’s coming. We know that the threat remains. And the idea that we’re ever going to buy your booze again… Your days are running out, and we will be there to dance when you go down." (25:13)
On MAGA criticism of Canada asking for help:
Ben: "What terrible framing is that? Send help? No, no, helping people, having empathy, caring for each other and not this ridiculous 51st rhetoric." (03:29)
On Authoritarianism:
Charlie Angus: "As authoritarians, they never, ever shift. They don’t become nice down the road and you don’t get to sit down with them and try and talk them down... These guys are playing on a whole different level of menace." (22:53)
On Canadian resolve:
Charlie Angus: "We just got to keep holding our ground here, but pay attention to the level of crazy that they’re trying to stir against us." (25:40)
For those who haven’t listened: This episode is a must for anyone concerned about North American geopolitics, as it offers both strategic insight and a front-row view of a democratic ally bracing for ongoing turbulence from a destabilized, increasingly hostile U.S. administration.
