Donald Trump just gave a disastrous speech in Detroit in front of a very small crowd. Throughout the speech, he continued to mock former President Biden. Coughing. Watch what Donald Trump does here. Play this clip. Ladies and gentlemen, Donald Trump then lies to the people of Detroit and Michigan by saying that drug prices are coming down thousands of percent. Let's play it in executive order.
Donald Trump
We're doing most favored nation drug prices when we would have drug prices stay the same. Everybody thought it was great. They're going to be coming down thousands of percents.

Next, Donald Trump talks about how the word affordability is a fake word from Democrats. Here, play this clip out.
Donald Trump
Even more. Plans to help bring back affordability. And again, remember, that's a fake word by Democrats. Prices were too high. They caused the high price.

By the way, if you can just double check that you're subscribed to the Midas Touch YouTube channel, you've seen some of the on the ground reporting that we've been doing now in Minneapolis through our partnership with the folks at Status Coup. You've seen we built out our Washington, D.C. bureau as well. So if you can just make sure you're subscribed here, if you can. Then Donald Trump starts to talk about the word propulsion, but says, just watch what he says. Play this clip.
Donald Trump
And if they like him, great. And if they like electric, if they like any form of propulsion, propel any way you want to propel your car is okay, except for a couple of them. As I discussed, I permanently stopped you.

Next. Donald Trump claims that he's kept every single promise that he made to the American people during the 2024 campaign over the past 12 months. He says it was a perfect record of doing everything he promised. Here, play this clip.
Donald Trump
Over the past 12 months, almost every promise I made to you right here in 2024 has been kept. I've kept all my promises and much more. I mean, I've given you much more than I. I gave you promises and I produced much more than I said I was going to produce.
Host/Commentator
I don't even need to fact check that. You know, everything he promised was a complete and utter fraud like this. Donald Trump says that inflation is defeated and that the American people do not worry about inflation anymore. Let's play this clip.
Donald Trump
So lucky to be here. Under our administration, growth is exploding, productivity is soaring, investment is booming, incomes are rising, inflation is defeated. America is respected again like never before. And other than that, we're not doing that.
Host/Commentator
Well, then Trump looks at the crowd and says that you're all lucky that you're even here with me in the first place. Play this clip.
Donald Trump
We're at 18. There's never been anything like this. You are so lucky I allow you into this room to even be with me. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. The fake news will say. Will say, Donald Trump thinks he's hot stuff right now. I'm feeling pretty good, though. I will say, you're so lucky to be here.
Host/Commentator
Next, Donald Trump says that anybody who doesn't support the invasion and occupation of Venezuela is someone who hates America and hates our country. Let's play this clip.
Donald Trump
But you have people, Democrats, they say, I don't know if we should have done on Venezuela. I don't know anybody that says that hates our country. Okay, that was as flawless an attack as there has ever been.
Host/Commentator
Then Donald Trump goes and talks about the lies that he won the popular vote all three times. He claims that he won the popular vote in every election. He says, more lies from Donald Trump. Let's play it.
Donald Trump
We had a. We won everything. We won all seven swing states. We won the electoral college 312 to 226. We won the popular vote by millions and millions of. So nice to win the popular vote. I won the popular vote all three times, too, but we're not going to get into that. But the first time they said, I didn't win the popular vote, but I won the Electoral College. So they always thought, while he didn't win, this is the way I got introduced every time. While he didn't win the popular vote, he won the Electoral College. You know, so this is the way I was introduced for four years. And guess what? We said, I'm going back and we're going to win. And we won the popular vote by a lot. By a lot. So they can't say that crap anymore.
Host/Commentator
Then Donald Trump tells the individuals he's speaking with that in reality, we need to go back to 1867. He said that's when America was relatively the strongest country in the world. It's a very odd and obviously completely incorrect understanding of history at 18. Oh, it's 1887. He says that's when we were our strongest. Really?
Donald Trump
Okay.
Host/Commentator
I mean, America was literally the economic envy of the world before you took it over. And you want to bring us back to 1887. Here, play this clip.
Donald Trump
Historic use of tariffs. There was the tariff that made America strong and powerful in past generations. And then we got off and we went to the income tax system. Great Coen fellas. You know, we were the strongest in 1887, relatively speaking. That was around the McKinley time, Teddy Roosevelt and some others, but we were really strong. It was all tariffs. And I know what happened. Some of these countries got together and they say, hey, convince the United States that it's no good, the tariff system is unfair to us. And so some genius I know who I don't want to get into it, but some genius said, oh, let's go to an income tax system.

Says to the people of Iran, who he promised back on January 2 that he would take military action if the regime there killed protesters. He said help is on the way. Now he goes, we have now issued tariffs against any country that does business with Iran. By the way, no, they didn't. China does business with Iran. United Arab Emirates does business with Iran. A lot of countries that do business with Iran. Still, that Donald Trump, Donald Trump does business with the United Arab Emirates. So he's made up fake tariffs. And the number of Iranian deaths in these protests, murders, killings by the Iranian regime right now may be 12,000. Some say it could be as high as 20,000. On the low end, in the thousands. And Trump promised that he would do, he would bring in military action, and he's not doing that right now. Let's play this clip Then.
Donald Trump
I've canceled all meetings with the Iranian officials until the senseless killing of protesters stops. And all I say to them is help is on its way. You saw that I put tariffs on anybody doing business with Iran. Just went into effect today.
Host/Commentator
Then Donald Trump says that we are not going to give any money to Minnesota ever. Let's play this clip right here.
Donald Trump
All these child care places in Minnesota where there is no children, they go there. They get paid millions and millions of dollars. The biggest operation in all of Minnesota had no children. And we pay millions of dollars. They're scammers. They're scammers. They always will be. And we're getting them out. And we're not going to pay them. We're not going to pay Minnesota. Right, Scott? We're not paying Minnesota any more money for that, Any of that crap. It's a big scam. It's a giant scam run by an incompetent, crooked governor. He's an incompetent crooked guy. And also we're freezing any and all welfare payments going to illegal immigrants.
Host/Commentator
He then attacks California. I'll show you this clip.
Donald Trump
And I revoked the California emissions waiver to stop San Francisco communists from regulating automobiles all over our nation, all over our world. Where have I looked? I have done so much for the car industry. It's crazy. Nobody thought, nobody thought it was possible to do this.
Host/Commentator
Trump claims that grocery prices are rapidly going down right now, which they are not. Show you the clip.
Donald Trump
Meanwhile, grocery prices are starting to go rapidly down. Rent is down, airfares are down. Hotel Rates are down, cell phone prices are down.
Host/Commentator
And he says that the evidence is overwhelming that tariffs are not being paid by American consumers when we know of course they are. He's saying this in Michigan, an area where tariffs have harmed Michigan businesses. Here, play this clip.
Donald Trump
Every prediction the critics made about our tariff policy has failed to materialize. The evidence shows overwhelmingly that the tariffs are not paid by American consumers, that they're paid by foreign nations and middlemen. And Scott went over that with us before and they're paid by middlemen. They raise the thing, countries get involved, they pay them because otherwise they won't have companies, they won't be viable and we're the big beneficiary. Once again, the so called experts were 100% wrong and Trump was right.
Host/Commentator
Then he claims he got some award in Michigan. I think he claimed it was like the best person of the year award many years ago. He's like, and people claim I didn't get the award. And now no one's apologizing because I did get the award as the man of the year of Michigan. Just makes this stuff up.
Donald Trump
Play this clip of every word is tariff. I've loved it for 40 years. I came here many years ago, remember they said I didn't come here. Then they found out I did. I got an award in Detroit, many in Michigan, many years ago then still have it. They said it never happened. It did happen. Turned out I didn't notice any apology, but all I did was talk about you're losing your car industry. This was long before I ran for politics.
Host/Commentator
And then when Donald Trump was touring a factory out in Dearborn, Donald Trump was asked, well, what do you mean by you're going to help Iran? So like how didn't you promise you were going to use the United States military? Watch what he says. Play this clip.
Donald Trump
You said to Iran this morning that help is on the way for protesters.
Host/Commentator
What did you mean by that?
Advertisement Narrator
What kind of help?
Donald Trump
You're going to have to figure that one out. I'm sorry.
Host/Commentator
And then Donald Trump says that the United States, Mexico, Canada agreement, which he did as basically an amendment or update to nafta, he says that he really doesn't care about it. He says that Mexico and Canada want it and he doesn't care about it at all. Here, play this clip.
Donald Trump
To build their product in the usa. You don't think you're going to renegotiate usmca? Well, I, I can. It's expires very shortly and we could have it or not. It wouldn't matter to me I think they want it I don't really care about it so it might go away. No real advantage to it. It's irrelevant to me Canada would love it Canada wants it. They need it because we don't need Canada product that's the thing you know I want to be a nice person but we don't need I want to build the cars here not in Canada we used to build cars in Canada now the Canada cars the Canadians are moving here to build cars. Same thing with Mexico same thing with Japan. Japan's paid us billions and billions of dollars for the privilege of making cars here and selling.

Episode: OMG! Trump Loses His Mind in Disaster Detroit Speech
Date: January 14, 2026
Hosts: Ben, Brett, and Jordy Meiselas
This episode centers on the Meiselas brothers’ detailed, often humorous breakdown of Donald Trump’s controversial Detroit speech. The brothers dissect Trump’s remarks, highlighting factual inaccuracies, bizarre claims, and moments of outright fabrication. Their commentary is infused with their signature banter, unwavering support for democracy, and a commitment to holding leaders accountable.
Opening Salvo – Trump’s Mocking of Biden
The hosts play an opening clip in which Trump mocks President Biden, including imitating his cough.
(00:00–00:33)
Inflated Claims about Drug Pricing
Trump claims, "They're going to be coming down thousands of percents." The brothers find this math impossible and absurd.
Quote:
Donald Trump (00:33): "We're doing most favored nation drug prices ... They're going to be coming down thousands of percents."
Denouncing “Affordability”
Trump derides the term "affordability" as “a fake word by Democrats,” suggesting high prices are their fault.
Quote:
Donald Trump (00:50): "Affordability ... that's a fake word by Democrats. Prices were too high. They caused the high price."
Electric Vehicles and "Propulsion"
Trump struggles to articulate a position on car propulsion, stumbling through his explanation.
Quote:
Donald Trump (01:26): “...you want to propel your car is okay, except for a couple of them. As I discussed, I permanently stopped you.”
Claim of Perfect Record
Trump asserts he kept "all" promises from the 2024 campaign, with no need for fact checking—a claim the hosts ridicule.
Quote:
Donald Trump (01:55): "I've kept all my promises and much more. I mean, I’ve given you much more than I..."
Inflation “Defeated,” America “Respected”
Trump boasts that "inflation is defeated" and America is "respected again like never before."
Quote:
Donald Trump (02:23): “…incomes are rising, inflation is defeated. America is respected again like never before.”
Audience “Lucky” to Be There
Trump jokes—then half-jokes—about the crowd being “lucky” to be in his presence.
Quote:
Donald Trump (02:47): "You are so lucky I allow you into this room to even be with me. I’m kidding. I’m kidding. The fake news will say..."
Advocating the Invasion of Venezuela
Trump claims anyone not supporting it "hates our country."
Quote:
Donald Trump (03:18): "…anybody that says that hates our country. Okay, that was as flawless an attack as there has ever been."
False Popular Vote Victories
Trump repeats the lie that he won the popular vote “all three times.”
Quote:
Donald Trump (03:41): "We won the popular vote by millions and millions ... I won the popular vote all three times, too..."
Nostalgia for 1887
Trump claims America was at its “strongest” in 1887, due to tariffs, ignoring historical context.
Quote:
Donald Trump (04:56): "...we were the strongest in 1887, relatively speaking. That was around the McKinley time..."
Tariff and Tax Confusion
He blames “some genius” for transitioning America off tariffs and onto income taxes.
Iran and Hollow Threats
Trump promises action on Iran (“help is on its way”), claims new tariffs, but the hosts note these are fictitious.
Quote:
Donald Trump (08:39): "I've canceled all meetings with the Iranian officials ... help is on its way ... put tariffs on anybody doing business with Iran..."
Targeting Minnesota Over Welfare Claims
Trump calls Minnesota’s childcare programs scams and vows to stop funding.
Quote:
Donald Trump (09:01): "We're not going to pay Minnesota any more money for that, any of that crap. It's a big scam."
Attack on California and Emissions
Trump brags about revoking the California emissions waiver, depicting state leaders as "San Francisco communists."
Quote:
Donald Trump (09:42): "I revoked the California emissions waiver to stop San Francisco communists from regulating automobiles all over our nation..."
Grocery Prices & Tariffs
Trump falsely insists grocery prices, rents, and hotel fares are “rapidly down” and that tariffs are paid by foreign countries.
Quote:
Donald Trump (10:05): “Meanwhile, grocery prices are starting to go rapidly down. Rent is down, airfares are down...”
Quote:
Donald Trump (10:30): “...the evidence shows overwhelmingly that tariffs are not paid by American consumers…”
Questionable Michigan "Award"
Trump claims he once received Michigan’s "person of the year" award, which no one else seems to recall.
Quote:
Donald Trump (11:17): "...I got an award in Detroit, many in Michigan, many years ago ... they said it never happened. It did happen..."
Donald Trump (12:06): “You’re going to have to figure that one out. I’m sorry.”
Donald Trump (12:27): "You don’t think you’re going to renegotiate USMCA?... It wouldn’t matter to me ... Canada would love it ... I want to build the cars here, not in Canada..."
Donald Trump (01:55): “I’ve kept all my promises and much more...”
Donald Trump (04:56): “...we were the strongest in 1887, relatively speaking...”
Donald Trump (03:41): “I won the popular vote all three times, too...”
Donald Trump (09:01): “We're not going to pay Minnesota any more money for that, any of that crap.”
Donald Trump (12:06): "You’re going to have to figure that one out. I’m sorry."
Donald Trump (12:27): “I don’t really care about it so it might go away. No real advantage to it.”
Throughout, the Meiselas brothers maintain their trademark mixture of cutting humor, exasperation, and serious news analysis. Their disbelief at Trump’s claims comes through in their sarcastic asides and frequent live fact-checks.
For listeners, this episode provides a rapid-fire, comprehensive rundown of Trump’s troubled Detroit speech, exposing its inconsistencies and falsehoods. The Meiselas brothers offer both entertainment and substance, making this episode a must-listen for those tracking the 2026 election cycle and the former president’s ongoing rhetoric.
