Donald Trump just wrapped up a disastrous press conference with Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Let me show you what went down. Donald Trump, again, just looking sickly. It was very bizarre. He started talking about the haircuts of the members of the press who were asking him questions. Here, play this clip.
D
President Trump.
E
So a question to both of you.
D
If you don't mind.
E
I love his haircut. I'm going to try. No, I love it. So as we all know.
B
And then this reporter asked him a very good question. I mean, she said, why aren't you providing the Tomahawks to Ukraine? Why aren't you supporting Lindsey Graham and other Republicans in the Senate and who are trying to impose these serious sanctions against Putin and label Putin a terrorist? Watch how Donald Trump treats this female reporter. Again, it's really disgusting stuff. Here, play this clip.
E
The first lady has done such an amazing job on the Ukrainian children who were. Yeah. Russia, would you support Senator Lindsey Graham's bill to declare Russia a terrorist state?
B
And you have within your power the.
E
Most powerful man on earth. Why don't you just enable Ukraine to finish this war tomorrow? Well, if you knew anything about what you were talking about, you'd be able. You do. I don't. I don't think you do. Really. I don't think you do. Because it's a little more complicated than that. But it's sounds easy. We're in the process of trying to make a deal. If we make a deal, that's great. If we don't make a deal, it'll be. A lot of people are going to be paying a big price.
D
President Trump.
E
So a question to both of you.
B
Yeah, I mean, Trump is totally unhinged. This was a very, very strange press conference. A reporter then asked Donald Trump, you know, what's your response to the prime Minister of Australia saying that there's a trade imbalance with Australia that's significantly in the United States favor? I mean, the US Has a massive trade surplus. So why are you hitting your friend and ally Australia with these tariffs? And then Donald Trump just starts rambling about airplanes. You have to buy our airplanes. It's very strange. Here, play this clip.
F
Mr. President, the prime minister mentioned that.
E
There'S a trade imbalance that's very heavily in America's favor.
B
Why does America slap such heavy tariffs on a friend?
E
Well, we Don't. Yeah, well, we do in some cases. We do in many cases because we've been treated unfairly. But actually, the tariffs are very light. The one thing is you buy a lot of airplanes, so that helps because you buy a lot of the beautiful Boeings, the best of the Boeings, Boeing. And by the way, Boeing is really doing well. They have lots of orders and they're really doing a great job. They make a great plan. But Australia, because of its location, which is great, but one of the things dictated by that location is you have to order a lot of airplanes. So I guess we have that advantage. They need a lot of airplanes in Australia, and that gives us a little bit of an.
B
Another reporter from Australia then asked Donald Trump, so would you consider lifting the tariffs ever for Australia? I mean, given all the facts and data which shows that there's a trade surplus, Australia is a friend. Why would you. Why would you do this? And then Donald Trump just goes on this weird rant and rave that he always does about he solved eight wars and he's going to solve nine wars soon. He just makes up numbers. And I've created all of this peace and I'm great. He doesn't answer the question. And I mean, here's the thing. When you watch this into all of our Australian viewers, the Midas mates or the Midas Down Under, I mean, you see how. I mean, this is just a individual who's so unhinged and untethered from reality, and he's a real threat to Australia, a real threat to the world. Here, play this clip surplus that the.
C
US Enjoys with Australia.
A
Would you consider lifting the tariffs that you've imposed on Australia? And can you give us any details about the critical.
E
Yeah, well, the tariffs have been amazing because, you know, tariffs have been and really a reason that I was able to settle almost all of the. You know, I've settled eight wars in eight months. Not bad. I have one more to go. It's Russia, Ukraine, and I think we'll get there. But it's turned out to be nasty because you have two leaders that truly hate each other. You know, can't. You can't have it all, right? They hate each other beyond all else. And it makes it actually a little bit difficult. But we try to. Of the eight deals, I would say because of tariffs, four or five of them were settled. It's an amazing thing, the power of tariffs in terms of our country. But tariffs have always been used against us. We never use them against anywhere else. And now you have a president that for national security reasons and other reasons is using them and where we've become a very rich nation again and a very secure nation again. But we've also become a nation that use that power of tariffs and the power of trade to, to settle five of the eight wars that I said I settled eight. I'm very proud of that. Nobody else has settled one. I don't think there's been an American president that settled one. I think there probably hasn't been outside of the two countries involved or however many are at war. I don't think there's ever been an outside country that settled the war, period. So I settled eight in eight months. I'm proud of that. Now, in the meantime, I'm running a country that's right now with the hottest country anywhere in the world. We're dead. A year and a half ago, we were a dead country. Now we're the hottest country in the world, economically and otherwise. So. But I will say this, Australia pays very low tariffs. Very, very low tariffs. In fact, Australia pays among the lowest tariffs.
B
Donald Trump is then asked a question about this ceasefire. It's not a peace deal. It's a ceasefire in the Middle east which Israel and Hamas never signed. I just want to emphasize that. And it seems to be collapsing. I mean, almost 40 Palestinians have been killed. Hamas has reasserted control. Israel has continued to shell and strike southern Gaza, also hitting Lebanon as well. Netanyahu doesn't support a two state solution. Trump doesn't support a two state solution. So what are we even talking about here? And then Donald Trump is like, Hamas, they need to behave. They need to behave, behave themselves. Here, watch this clip here. Let's play it.
E
The Middle east and now it's all, I mean, we have a little situation relatively with Hamas and that will be taken care of very quickly if they don't straighten it out themselves because they're in violation of their agreements.

Donald Trump is asked about soybeans and the fact that our soybean farmers are all going bankrupt. You'll RECALL Trump gave $40 billion of our taxpayer money to Australia while our farmers are experiencing farmaged. Also our construction workers, our manufacturing workers. Frankly, all Americans are suffering, but Argentina is getting a $40 billion bailout while 20 million Americans are about to lose their health care. You know, they've got universal health coverage in Argentina while our healthcare here in the United States is being ripped away from so many. So Trump's asked about soybeans and he goes, you know, I want them to buy soybeans. You know, I used to speak to Xi Jinping all of the time. Biden never called Xi Jinping. Biden never Biden this. Well, Donald, when former President Biden was the president, China was buying our soybeans at a significantly high rate. 60% of the sales of our soybean farmers were being sent to China under Biden, but not under you because of your failed trade war against the world. Here, play this clip.
E
Korea, China and I will have a really fair and really great trade deal together. I want them to buy soybeans. They stopped buying our Soybeans because they thought that was punishment. And it is punishment to our farmers. But we're not going to allow that to happen because I made a great trade deal with China, a $50 billion trade deal, and they were great about it. They were doing everything that they were supposed to do. And then when Biden came in, you know, I used to call President Xi all the time to say thank you or you're not buying enough. In other words, they were supposed to buy Biden. Do you think Biden ever called him? I don't think Biden ever called him. You think Biden lied awake at night thinking about trade with China?
B
Then Donald Trump is asked, why did it take you nine months to meet with Prime Minister Albinisi? He didn't meet with him at the G7 meeting in Canada, although Donald Trump left early and fled that thing immediately and didn't really meet with anyone. He blew off meetings with Modi from India and so many other world leaders who are expecting to meet with him. And then one of the things the reporter says as well, is it because you don't like Ambassador Rudd? You don't like, he said, the former prime minister as well, of the Labor Party there, you don't like that he said negative things about you. And then you'll see how unhinged Donald Trump becomes. Here, play this clip.
F
Concerned in Australia that it's taken nine months to get this meeting. Have you had any concerns with this administration, with the stance on Palestine, climate change, or even things the ambassador said about you in the past? The Australian ambassador?
E
I don't know anything about him. I mean, if you said bad, then maybe he'll like to apologize. I wrote on. Oh, did an ambassador say something bad about it? Don't tell me. I. Where is he? Is he still working for you? Yeah.
D
Yeah.
F
You said bad before I took this position.
E
Mr. President, I don't like you either. I don't. And it probably never will. Go ahead. No, you went go ahead. Behind you.
B
Then Donald Trump says that the war on Ukraine, Russia's war on Ukraine, doesn't affect the United States in any way. Here, play this clip.
E
Believable. It's. It's a bloodbath. It's the worst since the Second World War, the worst number of people. And, you know, it doesn't affect us in any way. We don't pay anything because now they pay us for the weapons that they get.
D
The.
E
The NATO is paying us for the weapons, as you know. It doesn't affect. I guess you could say that's A positive thing. They pay us, but I'm not interested in that. I did straighten it out.
B
Then Donald Trump says that he doesn't think that Ukraine can win the war against Russia. He goes, they could still win, but I don't think they're going to win. Here, let me show you this clip right here.
A
Mr. President, on the war that you haven't solved yet, Ukraine, Russia's situation. Have you not locked in a meeting? And can you explain just a few.
E
Weeks ago at unknow, you said that.
A
Ukraine could possibly win the war and well, they could.
E
They could still win it. I don't think they will, but they could still win it. I never said they would win it. I said they could win. Anything could happen. You know, war is a very strange thing.
B
Next, Donald Trump is asked a question about China potentially taking over Taiwan. And then Donald Trump and, and whether the Australia, uk, us the outcast alliance is important in order to be a check against China's potential territorial ambitions and taking over Taiwan. To which Donald Trump says, you know, I don't, I don't think Aukus will be needed for that. Yes, Taiwan is the apple of Xi Jinping's eye, which is the same expression that Donald Trump uses to talk about Ukraine being the apple of Putin's eye. It's a weird phrasing. Here, play this clip. Mr. President.
E
Yeah.
F
Your Secretary of War Pete Hagseth in his Shangri La speech in I think it was May, warned about the potential likelihood or threat of President Xi ordering an invasion of Taiwan. 2027 is also the year that fleet based west is about to start rotating those US and UK submarines. Do you see Orcas as a deterrent for China in the United States?
E
Yeah, I do. I think it is. But I don't think we're going to need it. I think we'll be just fine with China. China doesn't want to do that. First of all, the United States is the strongest military power in the world by far. It's not even close. Not even close. We have the best equipment, we have the best of everything. And nobody's going to mess with that. And I don't see that at all with President Xi. I think we're going to get along very well as it, as it pertains to Taiwan and others. Now, that doesn't mean it's not the apple of his eye because probably it is, but I don't see anything happening. We have a very good trade relationship. We're going to have a very good, I think when we leave South Korea could be wrong, but I think we'll end up with a very strong trade deal. Both of us will be happy. I don't see that happening now.
B
And Donald Trump trashes the former Biden administration. This is what Donald Trump loves to do on the world stage, trash the former administrations in front of our international allies, or I should say former international allies. Here, play this clip.
E
He was an incompetent president. We had an incompetent president, but you don't have that anymore.
B
Then Donald Trump says that he thinks that China is in trouble and that they're not going to make it. He thinks China's not gonna make it. It's all projection, by the way. The United States is in deep trouble right now. Structurally, America is pedestal by pedestal, legs of the pedestal. It's cracking our economy. It's brick by brick by brick right now is what we're seeing. And actually China's economy is doing great. China's found alternative markets outside of the United States to import from. But this is Donald Trump projecting. Here, play this clip.
E
Almost like saying we don't want to do business with you, but it's probably nicer. Saying you're going to pay 158, 157% tariff is a nicer way of saying that we don't want to do business with you. And if they don't do business with us, I think China's in big trouble. I'll be honest with you. I think China is. I don't know that they even make it. I really do. I believe that they're in big trouble. And I don't want them to be in big trouble. I want them to do great. I want them to thrive. But we have to thrive together. It's a two way street, I think.
B
Then Donald Trump goes on this rant again. Look what I've done. I've made peace in the Middle East. For the first time ever, there's peace in the Middle east, everybody, because I say it's peace in the Middle east, therefore it's peace in the the Middle East. Here, play this clip.
A
You just alluded to the violence in the Middle East. What steps is the administration taking to.
E
Maintain the cease fire? Well, a lot of, a lot of steps. And right now it's in the hands of others. You know, we have 59 countries that agree to the deal. We have a peace in the Middle east. For the first time ever. We made a deal with Hamas that, you know, they're going to be very good, they're going to behave, they're going to be nice. And if they're not, we're going to go and we're going to the eradicate them if we have to. They'll be eradicated and they know that. So they went in, they went in and I don't believe it was the leadership. They had some rebellion in there among themselves and they killed some people, you know, pretty, a lot of people. But this is a violent group. You know, you probably noticed over the last hundred years this is a very violent group of people. And, and they got very rambunctious and they did things that they shouldn't be doing. And if they keep doing it, then we're going to go in and straighten it out and it'll happen very quickly and pretty violently, unfortunately.
B
And look, there's not peace in the Middle East. Bodies of 57 Palestinians brought to Gaza hospitals in the past 27 hours. Gaza Health Ministry says the humanitarian aid being blocked by Israel. Hamas asserting reasserting control over Gaza. Strikes on southern Gaza Israel says because they said the Palestinians violated the ceasefire. As I mentioned, you know, there were strikes in Lebanon. In terms of the death count, close to 40 Palestinians have died that we know of. Right around 40. And so I don't really see how this is even being called a ceasefire. When Biden was able to get 83% of the hostages return, Trump did get some hostages returned, which is something that should be applauded, right? I mean, getting the remaining hostages back is great. The idea of a ceasefire in theory is a good thing. But when you don't say you support a two state solution or a free Palestine living next to a free Israel, side by side peacefully, when you don't require Hamas to disarm, when you don't, when you don't require Israel to recognize recognizes two state solution. I'm not really sure what we're even talking about here at all. So you have that. And then by the way, in the background of all of this, we learned today that the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service and their military intelligence services have significantly scaled back intelligence sharing with the United States due to ongoing concerns about the reliability and political ships, fearing that sensitive information provided to the United States could end up with China or Russia or enemy or the United States who's could use it to harm our allies. We just know that because that's being announced publicly. But I believe that's what's taking place in Canada and Europe and Australia and elsewhere right now. But tell me what you think as well. I'll leave you with this one point right here. Caroline Levitt, Donald Trump's press secretary, chief propagandist, posted the following this is her text message with a reporter from the Huffington Post who she refers to as a left wing hack. So the reporter says, is the president aware of the significance of Budapest? In 1994, Russia promised in Budapest not to invade Ukraine if it gave up the nuclear weapons it inherited when the Soviet Union dissolved. Does he not see why Ukraine might object to that site as a meeting point between Donald Trump and Putin, given the history? Who suggested Budapest was the question by this reporter? Thanks. And then Caroline Levitt, who's the White House press secretary, the chief propagandist, her response is, your mom did. And then the reporter says, is this funny to you? And then she goes, it's funny to me that you actually consider yourself a journal. You are a far left hack who nobody takes seriously, including your colleagues in the media. This is all that's wrong with this regime. These are amateur losers, baby. No offense to babies behavior. It's a gross. Who the hell behaves like this? These are sick, disgusting, vile, immature human beings. Like these are serious freaking issues of life or death. And you see why America is the laughingstock for the world. Why the world is both horrified and mocking what the United States has become weaker than ever before under this despicable, vile, grotesque Trump regime. Let me know what you think. Episode: Trump Loses It at Disaster Meeting with Australia PM
Date: October 23, 2025
Hosts: Ben, Brett, and Jordy Meiselas
In this episode, the MeidasTouch brothers dissect a chaotic and widely criticized press conference held by former President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The hosts break down Trump's bizarre and erratic responses to pressing international issues—ranging from Ukraine and tariffs to his shifting foreign policy stances—and discuss the broader implications for American diplomacy and the state of US democracy. The brothers infuse their commentary with their signature blend of humor, sharp critique, and fervent advocacy for democratic values.
“He started talking about the haircuts of the members of the press...” — Brett
“If you knew anything about what you were talking about, you’d be able. You do. I don’t. I don’t think you do. Really. I don’t think you do. Because it’s a little more complicated than that... if we make a deal, that’s great. If we don't, a lot of people are going to be paying a big price.”
“...the tariffs are very light. The one thing is you buy a lot of airplanes. So that helps... Australia, because of its location... you have to order a lot of airplanes... that gives us a little bit of an advantage.”
“I’ve settled eight wars in eight months. Not bad. I have one more to go. It’s Russia, Ukraine, and I think we’ll get there... Because of tariffs, four or five of them were settled. It’s an amazing thing, the power of tariffs...”
“We have a little situation relatively with Hamas and that will be taken care of very quickly if they don’t straighten it out themselves because they’re in violation of their agreements.”
“I want them to buy soybeans. They stopped buying our soybeans because they thought that was punishment... I made a great trade deal with China, a $50 billion trade deal... Then when Biden came in... you think Biden ever called him?”
“I don’t know anything about him. I mean, if you said bad, then maybe he’ll like to apologize... Did an ambassador say something bad about it? Don’t tell me... I don’t like you either, and it probably never will.”
“It doesn’t affect us in any way. We don’t pay anything because now they pay us for the weapons that they get.”
“They [Ukraine] could still win it. I don’t think they will, but they could still win it.”
“I don’t think we’re going to need [AUKUS]. ...Now, that doesn’t mean it’s not the apple of his eye because probably it is, but I don’t see anything happening.”
Reporter: “Who suggested Budapest [as a meeting site for Trump and Putin]?”
Levitt: “Your mom did.”
“These are sick, disgusting, vile, immature human beings. Like these are serious freaking issues of life or death. And you see why America is the laughingstock for the world.”
Trump dismisses reporter on Ukraine (03:38):
“If you knew anything about what you were talking about... I don’t think you do.”
Trump on tariffs with Australia (04:57):
“...you buy a lot of airplanes, so that helps, because you buy a lot of the beautiful Boeings.”
Trump’s boast on “settling wars” (06:36):
“I’ve settled eight wars in eight months. Not bad. I have one more to go...because of tariffs, four or five of them were settled.”
Trump on Middle East (09:00):
“We have a little situation relatively with Hamas and that will be taken care of very quickly if they don’t straighten it out themselves...”
Trump on US isolation from Ukraine war (14:25):
“It doesn’t affect us in any way.”
White House Press Secretary Levitt to the press (approx 21:05):
“Your mom did.”
Ben’s closing condemnation (22:26):
“These are sick, disgusting, vile, immature human beings. Like these are serious freaking issues of life or death. And you see why America is the laughingstock for the world.”
The MeidasTouch Podcast uses Trump’s shambolic press appearance with Australia’s Prime Minister as a lens to examine the perilous direction of American foreign policy and democratic norms under Trump’s leadership. Through pointed critique, humor, and a focus on protecting democracy, the Meiselas brothers reinforce the urgent need for accountability, competence, and respect for American institutions on the world stage.
