We have a packed, packed show for you today. And I was reading your emails, your comments, your DMs. Maureen, please tell us you're going to cover Ryan Murphy's JFK Jr. Carolyn Bessette LA Love Story on the Nerve. Yeah, we're gonna cover it on the Nerve. On Thursday, the first three episodes dropped. So I've got a lot to say, a lot to say about this. And we're going to keep watching it. It is actually watchable, which is not nothing. But this will be. This will be our main watch for the next, I think, nine episodes. So six weeks, okay? Lots to slice and dice and tear apart and what they have done to my beloved Jackie O. Oh, my God. Okay, then we're going to get into all of your feedback, followed by another special Nerve announcement that involves a new member of the show and a Troublemaker poll. And then after that, the one and only Kinsey Schofield will be here with all the latest on the gruesome twosome, Meghan and Harry. There is so much happening. So, troublemakers, are you ready? Are you ready? Let's go. Are you one of the many Americans who wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom? Most people chalk that up to getting older, but a new report is calling that assumption into question. Researchers have uncovered an often overlooked cause behind nighttime trips to the bathroom, and it's something many doctors rarely discuss. It may have very little to do with your bladder. This report breaks down what could really be triggering nighttime urgency? Why? Common advice often misses the mark and offers a simple process practical approach to support better bladder control so people can actually sleep through the night again. Getnativepath.com nerve g e t N A T I V e p a t-com n e r V E Before we get into the actual episodes of Love Story, JFK Jr. And Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. I don't even know if they use the full name clothes. I want to talk about something that may surprise Gen X. Ask a millennial. Ask a Gen Z. Er, do you know who JFK Jr. Was? They don't. Carolyn Bessette? No idea. Have you heard of Jackie Kennedy Onassis? I've gotten blank stares to that one. And you know, it just goes to show you, you can be the most famous person on the planet, one of the most recognizable faces and names talking to you. Meghan Markle. And, you know, you pass on. You leave the earthly plane and a generation or two goes by and people are going to go, you ever heard of Meghan Markle? Who's that? Now, this includes the actors who are playing JFK Jr. And Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. These two were over on Good Morning America last week talking to George Stephanopoulos, who asked him a bunch of softballs. Softball. Softball. I would never be let near anybody like this to ask questions with good reason. Okay, so anyway, George S. Is going to ask these two. It's Sarah Pigeon who is playing Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. But really, the hair is doing a lot of the work. We're going to talk about the hair and the makeup in the wardrobe as well. And then Paul Anthony Kelly, a male model. This is his first job, I'm going to say. He's acquitting himself nicely. And this just may be brilliant casting. I don't know. Like, but so anyway, here they're talking about how much they knew about the people they're playing before they got the roles. Here we go. How much did you all know about the, about the couple before you took on this role? I knew Carolyn through Instagram, Pinterest. She's on every mood board, really. But, I mean, I think we'd both say we're far more knowledgeable about the two of them now. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. I would hope we did quite a bit of research. But Carolyn, she's a tough one to get to know because she really wasn't out in public all that time. Absolutely. I mean, I think that was what was a part of the challenge, but also so exciting to take on and figure out through this research of who Carolyn was, not only with John, but the life that she led before she met John as well. I'm excited for audiences to see that depiction of Carolyn's earlier years. I'm going to say this, these two seem a little bit nervous. I don't think they've done press at this level before or had this level of attention before. But this actress, Sarah Pigeon, is really struggling here. And the problem with Carolyn Bessette is it was a short life. And aside from marrying JFK Jr. It was pretty much an uneventful one. There wasn't a ton of depth there. There, there wasn't. She, as discussed, she was interested in fame, partying and drugs. That was it. Now, George is really gonna try here again, trying to get a little bit more, you know, JFK Jr. As discussed, was the most eligible bachelor in the world. Okay. And everybody had this idea about who JFK Jr. Was because it was. He was very well protected by the media. He loved the media. The media loved him. And the light on JFK Jr. Was he was a great guy. Great guy. The guy was a suicidal, homicidal maniac. Okay. Trust me. And we will get into it as this series progresses. I don't think Paul Anthony Kelly picked up Ask Not. I don't. Paul, how'd you research this part? Here we go. And in some way, John F. Kennedy, Jr. A different challenge. People my age, my generation, knew him from when he was a tiny little boy. He was everywhere. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean, he's such a well documented individual. I think for me to take on that role, I had a wealth of knowledge to rely on and. And just really dig deep, do some good work. First of all, in that clip, George looks really over eager. Like he's really into this. He's really into this. And he wants to talk to this guy about JFK Jr. And he's going like, yeah, it was a chance to dig deep. Just like all these cliches. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean. Can you personalize this? Can you give me a specific? Can you give me one specific? Oh, you know what really opened my eyes into how John's head worked. What passed for what was going on in that head. How he reacted when his mother died. You know, that gave me some insight. This guy, he must have an acting coach, right, like you talk about. George gives it another shot. He's trying to get these two to say something. And I think George needs to be more specific in his line of questioning, because I think these questions are kind of vague and kind of lazy. I really do. He's going to try it again. He's going to ask Sarah about how iconic Carolyn was. And did anything about Carolyn surprise her? No. Anyway, here we go. Did anything you learned about Carolyn surprise you? Gosh, I think just delving into those earlier parts of her life, while there is. She is such an enigmatic figure in history, I think sort of getting into those details of the life that she led before her relationship with John was really exciting and surprising. And it just makes sense considering how iconic she is, that she had such a vivacious, wonderful life, you know, pre and post meeting John. Okay, again, I do think she's kind of nervous here. I'm gonna give her the benefit of the doubt. But when she says what an exciting life Carolyn had pre and post John, I mean, post John, he got her killed flying a plane. He had no business flying. So this is not a love story. And this is my. This is my big problem with the entire branding, advertising, press tour, media messaging, reviewing of this thing. This is not a love story. It's not. These are two very toxic, damaged, dangerous people whose lives ended in a very violent, wholly preventable way because of how messy they were. Okay, so George Stephanopoulos, who knows something about cleaning up messes, you know, he was Bill Clinton's hitman when the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke. He asks Paul Anthony Kelly, what should people take away from this series? Here we go. What do you hope people take away from this story? Because a whole new generation is going to be introduced. Yeah, well, I think just feed them a bunch of horseshit. A whole new generation of a story that just rings so true. You know, they were such beloved individuals. They were not. And the whole base of the story is love. And I think that's something that everyone can relate to and, you know, just have fun with it. Have fun with it. Paul's really struggling. He really is the personification of a male model. Have fun with it. Okay? We're going to show this real, because we can never show this real, apparently. Enough. This is John F. Kennedy, Jr. And Carolyn Bessette having a physical fight, a screaming match. This is in a park on the west side of Manhattan. It's been reported that it was either Washington Square park or Central Park. It was not. We at the Daily Mail spoke to the actual photographer, videographer who caught this in February 1996. And look at this thing. They are going at each other. At one point, she jumps on his back. This is in broad daylight in a park. And their dog is there. I mean, again, that's the worst part. They're traumatizing their dog. And then he at one point shoves her away. Like she's up here in his face with his hand in her face, shoves her away, and then tries to rip the engagement ring off of her finger. And they went on to get married. Now, I don't know anybody who would behave like this in public. Anybody. So imagine what was going on behind closed doors. Okay? Number one. Number two, you know, when I was reporting Ask Not. I would ask people who knew them, like, what was the cause of that fight? And I would get one answer, and I knew it wasn't true. I think these people believed it was true because they said, oh, I asked. And they. Or they told me maybe they just volunteered it so they could get ahead of it. That the fight was because Carolyn was upset that John had people in his life who were taking advantage of him. I'm sorry. Carolyn was one of them, okay? She would never have looked at this himbo twice if his name wasn't JFK Jr. He was a himbo. So that was what that vicious fight was over. Listen, you can only get worked up into that kind of a rage over one thing. And you think your partner is cheating on you. That's it. And that's all. And, you know, he was cheating on her and she was cheating on him. And they're framing this whole thing like it was a big fairy tale, and it was anything but. And that is why Ask not exists, you know? And George S. Should be ashamed of himself. What should the new generation take away from this? They should not swallow this lie whole. You know, I'm looking at. So the new Vanity Fair, for whatever that's worth. It's not like anybody reads it. We got it this. This week for a very specific reason. But there is a big spread on this thing in here. The New York Times Recreating an enchanting and tragic romance. No, no and no. I don't think you call it enchanting when the husband puts the wife and her sister in the backseat of a plane he has no business flying and sends them all spiraling to their death in the Atlantic Ocean, which is like hitting concrete at those Speeds, you know, I mean, the bodies were a mess. The bodies were a mess. We'll get into it. We'll get into it. Okay? Now again, the media is doing everybody a disservice. And not only that, they're talking to us like we're morons. Like we don't know better by now, okay? I mean, that this horse is out of the barn. Cbk. This is the headline in Vogue. Was a hero really a hero? What did she share? The good stuff. So that's Narciso Rodriguez, who was a designer at Calvin Klein when Carolyn worked there. And he went on to design her wedding dress, which she had promised to another gay male designer friend of hers there named Gordon Henderson. And that left him heartbroken. But, you know, Carolyn was on the move, she was moving up and, you know, hearts had to get broken. So that's that. Now let's go to the first clip that we're gonna look at from episode one of this little extravaganza. Okay? So here is this. I'm gonna tell you, this is the opening scene and it made me furious. And I will tell you why once we go through it. Here we go. We're going to open with Carolyn at a nail salon. Her from behind. At first, she's an icon. Getting her nails painted red. I need a different color. Sorry. There she goes. I just. This isn't gonna work for where I'm going. Do you want a different shade? No, let's go with something safe. Okay, so a not heavy handed metaphor. She needs something safe. If she needed something safe, she never should have gotten with JFK Jr. But, you know, she's saying the family would never, you know, only sluts wear red nail polish. But what I hate about this is it gives credence to a very specious claim by Ed Klein. It was a single source. I think that source was someone within the Kennedy family. Quite frankly, I have never seen any reporting to back this up. Carolyn was late to the tarmac that night. The story goes, they played with it a little bit there. She was getting a pedicure, not a manicure. And she wanted her toes a very specific shade of lilac. And she wasn't liking the result. And so she kept making the pedicurist redo her nails over and over and over. And then she would get up and she would take her swatch of fabric and she would go to the window. Like, I don't care if she was doing that, which I don't believe she was. The implication is John would never have crashed his plane if his fucking shallow, superficial, vainglorious wife hadn't been getting a pedicure and just making the pedicurist redo and redo and redo. This is so misogynistic, and it is straight out of the Kennedy mail playbook, which is blame the women. And if you can't make them mentally ill, and if you can't make them crazy, and if you can't kill them, you know, just make up something. Make up something. Make up something misogynistic. The only person whose fault that was was John F. Kennedy, Jr. Beginning of story, end of story. I posted portions of the NTSB's official report, Accident report, on the cause of that crash. Part of it is on my Instagram. I've read the whole thing multiple times. There's only one way to read it. They place the blame on him now. Lighter note, we're going back in time now to a gym scene with Anthony, John's beloved cousin Anthony, who married Carol Radziwill, who never fails to remind us that she and JFK Jr. And Carolyn Brissette were family. They were family. They were family. She married some guy who had cancer who was related to JFK Jr. So they were family. And Carol does not appear in this series thus far, and I don't think she's going to. And by the way, if you think it's because the writers can have more leeway with dead people than living people. Caroline Kennedy, John's sister, is a character in this thing. Calvin Klein, still living, iconic American fashion designer, is a major character in this thing. So I just think they feel like Carol's irrelevant. Could you imagine? Okay, here's the gym scene. Let's go. So what if he flubbed the bar exam twice? Twice. As in parentheticals, America's uncrowned Prince is facing 30 with a steady girlfriend, fabulous looks, even a movie role. But now it's time to hit those law books. If it makes you feel any better, anyone who knows you knows that you don't have a steady girlfriend. Fuck off. I can't show my face around the city with these headlines everywhere. You show your dick to everyone at the gym. Apparently, this is all I'm good for. Well, as your cousin, obviously, I disagree. Also, I'm an actual prince with a title and everything. What is this obsession with anointing you? Okay, Many problems with that scene. Number one, it has one of the things I hate the most in film and television, and that is clunky, expository dialogue. Such as? As your cousin, obviously I disagree. You gotta find a more artful way to make it clear that they are cousins. You know, I'm an actual prince with a title and everything. You gotta find a more artful way to communicate that to the viewer and not make them feel like you're banging them over the head. Okay. The guy playing John has his voice down. That's a hard voice to do, I think, because it's, like very flat. And it's like it doesn't have any sort of real edge to it or accent or any real personality to it. He really nailed the voice. But there's this moment where Anthony says to John, oh, what do you do besides, like, show your dick at the gym? What they really should have done is go all in. Which, you know, I wrote about it. John Jr. Was such an exhibitionist. So you're going to tell me the big bad media. He loved the media attention. He loved nothing more than ripping off his shirt and running around in Central Park. Okay. And making sure all the paparazzi got great views. Okay. Great sight lines. He would walk around the gym naked all the time, like, picking at his pubic hair and inspecting his genitalia, like teasing other men. Now we go to a scene at Calvin Klein where Carolyn, who has yet to meet John, is just sort of calmly asking for an invite to a fundraiser for the Amazon rain. For, you know, the rainforest in the Amazon, which is a very chic cause back in the early to mid-90s. Let's take a look, and then I'm going to tell you how it really went.
