Maureen Callahan conducts a total takedown of Russell Brand for the multiple sexual abuse allegations that he continues to deny. She revisits assault claims from the women who have publicly spoken out against him, including details shared during televised interviews, text messages between Brand and some of his accusers, Russell's justification for having sexual relationships with minors, and she highlights his hypocrisy as he hawks his new book on Christian morals. Maureen then dives into the fall of fashion, including the once-powerful Anna Wintour losing her allure, how the Met Gala no longer attracts A-listers, and Wintour's poorly chosen predecessor Chloe Malle, who shows no signs of upholding what Vogue magazine once was. Then, Maureen is joined by Royal biographer Lady Colin Campbell to unpack the deepening divide within the Royal family, including the ongoing tension between Prince Harry and King Charles III, his disconnect with Prince William, plus Harry and Meghan's repeat...

If you're listening, this is a Pomeranian making a waffle with whipped cream topped with a strawberry. And the Palm is so proud of himself. Palms, pearls and prosecutions. Welcome to the Nerve. Welcome to your Friday edition of the Nerve. I am your host, Maureen Callahan. We have so much to get to today and number one on our agenda is a guy I have been waiting to get to. I have heard you guys in the emails, the comment section. We were building our case. Russell Brand. It is time for the Nerve to give Russell Brand our style of justice. He's been out in America. He's got a new book. A new book. It's called how to Become a Christian in seven days. As someone who spent 12 years in Catholic school, let me just say in my experience, people who go hard into Christianity and are the loudest about it, about what a Christian they am and how saved they are, they're the biggest phonies of all. The biggest phonies of all. It's like anything. It's like, it's like what Bill from Brooklyn was saying the other day about like how the greats in sport, like they never have to say it, they just are. It's like a real Christian like, or anyone of faith really, you know, a well meaning person. They don't have to say it. You see it in their actions. So you know already my antenna is way the fuck up. Way the fuck up. Okay? Russell, as we know, is out here trying to do some damage control because he's been accused by multiple women of rape, of sexual assault, indecent exposure. We're doing it. Can't wait. After that, we're going to do an unusual B block. For the first time in a long time, we have such a packed show. This is going to be a topic driven bee. Okay. We're going to be talking about the Met gala, the crisis it's in, the larger crisis for the fashion industry. Mind you, this is all taking place against the backdrop of The Devil Wears Prada 2. And we're gonna talk about what fashion magazines once really meant, what they augured, how they shaped the culture, how they drove it, and what's happening now over at the once hallowed halls of Vogue and Conde Nast. And then we've got a troublemaker favorite back. Lady C. Lady C. This week, the United States hosted King Charles and Queen Camilla for a lengthy state visit to mark the 250th anniversary of our independence. All against the backdrop of the tomfoolery and the fuckery of the gruesome twosome from Montecito. And Lady C, as always, has some incredibly insightful things to say to us that you are not going to hear or see in any other coverage. And that is why she will forever have a home at the Nerve. Okay, troublemakers, are you ready? Are you ready? Let's go. Do you know that the condition of your hair, skin, nails, mental clarity and energy all start with gut health? He is facing trial this fall in the United Kingdom facing criminal charges from six women on charges as discussed at the top, including rape, sexual assault and indecent harassment during a period that ranges from 1999 to 2009. That is 10 years. Russell, by the way Says that he got sober in December of 2002. 60 Minutes Australia, two years ago. This woman, her face remains in the shadows. She is going to tell her story, her little encounter with Russell. And this. We're setting the table with this because it goes to, I think, just my opinion, what seems a pattern of behavior, entitlement, predation. She again, as discussed, Australian native living in Los Angeles, veteran of the TV industry. She was working at, I believe it was BBC studios there. And Russell and his entourage showed up. But before anyone knew who was in the office, she says she was in the back. And at reception, everyone could hear someone just ringing a bell over and over and over and over and over, just ringing this bell, ringing this bell, ringing this bell. And she finally comes out, it's not even her job, and she's like, stop, please. Ringing the bell. Who was ringing the bell? Russell. Another producer comes out, brings Russell and his entourage into their green room where they're going to be, you know, stationed until they record their interview. She goes about her business. She finds her way into a bathroom, and guess who follows her in there? Here we go.
Russell Brand Accuser
And when I turned around, there was a groin in front of me. What are you doing in here? Like, what are you doing, mate? And he goes, oh, you're a bit alright, aren't you? You're a bit alright. And I thought, oh, okay. And then he goes, I'm going to call you Betty. I'm going to call you Betty. And I went, but that's not my name. He said, I'm going to F you. And I went, no, you're not. And he goes, yeah, I am. And I said, no, you're not. And before you know it, his penis was on his hand and he was pretty much serving it to me as he would a dish or as you'd serve someone some food.
Narrator/Reporter
Russell Brand pulls his penis out in front of you.
Russell Brand Accuser
He presents it to you on his hand.
Narrator/Reporter
What did he say to you?
Russell Brand Accuser
He just kept saying, I'm gonna you, I'm gonna you. And I thought, what is this man doing? Like, why would he be doing this to me? And then before you know it, there was a loud banging on the door. They were calling for him to come into the studio. And I thought, oh, my God, thank God I've been spared this creep.
Maureen Callahan
I find this woman very credible. I don't know why anyone would make up such a story. That loud banging on the door. I'm going to guess that Russell's entourage has done this many a time that they know that They've got a problem that they've got a predator. And it wasn't just, it's time for you to sit for your interview. It's somebody go stop him before he really does something extremely grave. Okay? That alone, it's grave. Don't get me wrong. But Russell was making it clear he was going to do what he was going to do. Now, if you are among those fair enough. Who might say, well, you know what, that's an accusation from a woman who wouldn't even put her full face on the air. Russell, during this interview, apparently it was a live interview, talked about what he just did in the bathroom. Here we go.
Russell Brand Accuser
I sat back at my desk and I had to think about what just happened. And I texted the BBC person to say, I was just in the bathroom and Russell Brand shut the door and he showed me his penis. And he said, yes, I know he's talking about it on air.
Maureen Callahan
Here is a clip from I believe this is the BBC documentary. Four other women come forward in this BBC documentary. Now we'll talk about Russell's issue with this on the back end. I'm most interested in the content. Here we go.
Narrator/Reporter
But the laughing stopped this week when extraordinary allegations of predatory behavior were made by four women on Britain's Channel 4.
Maureen Callahan
He's grabbing at my, my underwear, pulling it to the side. I'm telling him to get off me and he won't get off. Like holding me up against the wall, pushing himself in me. He grabbed me and got me on the bed. I was fully clothed and he was naked at this point. And he held me down and he was just aggressively trying to, you know me. I was like, oh, my God, he raped me.
Narrator/Reporter
It's only since those accounts emerged that Rachel realized that her own ordeal had been fodder for Russell Brand's radio audience.
Maureen Callahan
Now, Russell, his stated problem with that documentary is that they used actresses to relay the actual accusers accounts of what he did to them. I don't think that's a great look either, I will say that. But I think if these are the accusations being leveled at you, your concerns should be larger than that, sir. Now we're going to take a look at Russell refuting these claims. You know, he has many incarnations, this guy. And when he got canceled, he kind of reinvented himself as somewhat of a shaman yogi again, I think. Very telling. You know, I think Russell in his mind would like to be a cult leader. He was also a very ardent yogi, I think, for a time. And the yoga world Is, is full of sexual abuse. Full of it. That's another story for another time, another segment. But here's Russell basically saying that, you know, he thinks he's being targeted. Perhaps. Why he thinks is unclear, but he may actually be the real victim here. Let's take a look.
Narrator/Reporter
Russell Brand's glory days are long gone. In the last few years, he's turned his back on mainstream entertainment to become an alt right conspiracy theorist and vaccine skeptic. Ahead of the women's allegations being aired, Brand went on the offensive, denying them all and telling his millions of followers on YouTube he was the victim of a witch hunt.
Piers Morgan
Now, during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely always consensual. I was always transparent about that then, almost too transparent. And I'm being transparent about it now as well. And to see that transparency metastasized into something criminal that I absolutely deny makes me question, is there another agenda at play?
Maureen Callahan
I just don't think Russell Brand is that important. I mean, he's just not important enough to try to take down in this way. You know, it doesn't make any sense. And we're going to get to the peers interview in a moment in which the things that Russell has to say there don't fully align with that, that complete and clear repudiation. Now one of the issues with Russell, and this is something he does and I think he knows he does it, he tends to speak very quickly so that it's very, it's very difficult if he's having an interview one on one to interrupt him or to say stop, wait, wait, wait, I need to check that fact with you. I don't know about that. He uses a lot of, a lot of like 50 cent words where like a 10 cent word will do. Do you know what I mean? I think he's very fluent in obfuscation and distraction. I think he is. Remember, this guy is a standup comic. He knows how to control a room. Times exclusive. This is the UK Times. Russell Brand accused of rape, sexual assault and abuse. Published on September 16, 2023 by Rosamund Irwin, Charlotte Wace and Paul Morgan Bentley. Now I'm gonna read a little bit from this piece. Just know if you are American or listening in another country. The libel laws in the UK are extremely stringent. I write for the Daily Mail, which is a UK publication with an American arm lawyering a piece, even an opinion column through American lawyers and is very different than lawyering and legaling a piece through UK attorneys. The stat, it is the Bar is so high in the UK for what could be considered defamation. Okay, so I say this to you so that you know that when, when a British publication or an outlet comes with a report like this, it has gone through the ringer. It has been legaled eight ways to to Sunday I quote from this piece. The findings come from a joint investigation by the Sunday Times, the Times and Channel 4 Dispatches. One woman alleges that Brand raped her against a wall in his Los Angeles home. She was treated at a rape crisis center on the same day, according to medical records. Note the absence of a word that could ameliorate that claim. No. Reportedly no. Allegedly, no. She claims she was. She's got the records. I continue. Text messages show that in the hours after leaving his house, she told Brand that she had been scared by him and felt taken advantage of. Adding, when a girl says no, it means no. Brand replied, saying he was, quote, very sorry. That exchange isn't. It was memorialized in text messages. What are you sorry about, Russell? If it was just, you know, an encounter that got a little sloppy, like, what are you sorry about? I continue reading. A second woman alleges that Brand assaulted her when he was 31 and she was 16 and still at school. She said he referred to her as, quote, the child during an emotionally abusive and controlling relationship that lasted for about three months and that Brand once, and I quote, forced his penis down her throat, end quote, making her choke. She says she tried to push him off and said she had to punch him in the stomach to make him stop. A third woman claims that he sexually assaulted her while she worked with him in Los Angeles and that he threatened to take legal action if she told anyone else about her allegation. The fourth described being sexually assaulted by Brand and him being physically and emotionally assaulted, abusive towards her. These are text messages between Russell and Nadia, a businesswoman then in her 30s. Russell July 1, 2012 at 3:29am I'm sorry. That was crazy and selfish. I hope you can forgive me. I know that you're a lovely person. Ex Nadia. Same date 10:59am you scared the out of me.
Lady Colin Campbell
You.
Maureen Callahan
You're right. I am a lovely person. And for you to take advantage of me like that is unexpectable. You have a problem. You need help. It's dangerous that you think you can get your own way all the time. Do you know how scary you are when that glazed look comes over you? When a girl says no, it means no. This is an extract from what I just read above. Nadia continues Do I have to go and get myself tested? Last time you asked me, condom or no condom? When I say condom, that doesn't mean it's optional. No. You don't have the best reputation. I think this is a mistake here. I pry myself. I think she means pride. P R I D E. I pride myself on being safe and trying to make the right decisions. Obviously this was a bad one. I'm so disappointed. By bad one, I think she means she regrets. But her account is that he texted her to come over that night. She said, I'm tired, I'm at home, I don't want to. And he badgered her, and he badgered her and she went. I think that was the regret. I could be wrong. My interpretation, Russell's text. I'm very sorry. You don't need to get tested. I will make this up to you. Somehow with live, I think he means love and kindness, not my original idea, which was more sex. You've been lovely to me and I'm embarrassed by my behavior. Sorry. X Clearly no response. Russell August 5, 2012 at 1:46am A lot of late hours, this guy, for someone who's allegedly sober. Will you ever forgive me? X okay, now on to Piers Morgan and Piers also embedded. Russell made headlines for his earlier appearance that week on Megyn Kelly's show and Pierce showed a clip of that, which we will get to as well. Now, Russell was on Piers's show for almost two hours. And this was, this is a very interesting choice by Piers because Russell began really blowing, you know, just kissing Piers's ass and like, what a great guy he is. And, and like any interrogation, the longer it went on, the harder it was my opinion for Russell to keep that mask affixed because Russell began to get very angry. Russell began to insult peers personally, which is not really advisable when you're doing a media tour in the United States to try to crisis manage this shit and convince people that you're just a friendly, cuddly guy who was out of his mind with sexual promiscuity when you were at the height of your fame, you were taking advantage of your status. Pierce asks what I think is a very, very good question because Russell again, he says, you know, for a long time he was out of his mind. He was a crack addict. He was a heroin addict. He's an. He's an addict. Okay. Pierce says to him, can you really trust your own memory when you say there's no way you ever, ever assaulted a woman? You ever went too far? A woman said to you? No. And you kept going. Is it possible that you might not remember? Here's Russell.
Interviewer
How can you be sure that your own memory is good, is sound, is reliable, is truthful? Most people who slept with thousands of women and taken barrel loads of drugs and led this incredibly hedonistic lifestyle, I would think if I interviewed him and asked him to name even what year it was, would struggle to remember. Can you be certain, if you're honest, that your memory is completely sound, accurate? Do you remember half this stuff?
Piers Morgan
Well, yes, I can be honest.
Interviewer
It's a relevant question, isn't it?
Piers Morgan
Of course it is. Yes, I can be honest and I am honest. And I think what's an important distinction is that I was a drug addict prior to becoming famous. So that was a very different rhythm and time. And I think the question was, has it made you a more successful predator? And even then I objected to the idea of predation as persecutory. But predation is simply an amplification of looking for something with intention.
Maureen Callahan
Okay, first of all, that is not the definition of predation. Russell, as I said, likes to use a lot of big words. That is not the definition of predation. Predation is being a predator. Okay? There's nothing about predation that's simply an amplification of looking around for opportunity. Not the same thing. Notice also, Russell didn't answer that question. That was not the question put to him. The question was, can you remember? Russell said, well, I can be honest, not the same fucking thing. Then he went on to distract. Well, you have to remember. You could see him searching. You could see the eyes going. And what do I grasp onto here? At that time, I was at the height of my fame. Everything had a different rhythm. Not the question, are you a rapist or not? If you're not, I think all you say is no, no. Now, Pierce includes the clip that really made headlines from his appearance on Megyn Kelly's show, which went to what he says was a consensual relationship when he was 30 and this girl was 16 years old. Because, as Russell maintains, in the United Kingdom, 16 is the age of consent. Piers Morgan did his homework and he reported back to Russell that in the United states there are 30 states in which 16 is the age of consent. It's still is disgusting. Like I could dry heave. Anyway, here is Russell explaining his interpretation now of what that was and meant. Here it is,
Interviewer
the interesting thing. I was listening to your Megyn Kelly interview yesterday and it's blown up. We're both in New York and you know, it's blown up big in America today. A lot of people commenting about this. Let's play the clip for those who haven't heard it.
Piers Morgan
In Europe and in the United Kingdom where I'm from, the age of consent is 16. And I did sleep with a 16 year old when I was 30. But when I was 30 I was a very different person. I was a lot younger and I was an immature 30 year old. Consensual sex actually with a variety of people when there is a strong power differential as there is when you're a famous man that has the ability to attract women that I had at that time, I think involves exploitation.
Maureen Callahan
So this is, this is my real problem with this. You ask any decent 30 year old man if they find a 16 year old girl sexually attractive and they'll say no, that's a child. That is a child. The other thing that I really, I don't like is Russell using. Well, it's the age of consent. So it's legal. It's totally legal. Most decent people, I think, interpret that law thusly. Age of consent laws are on the books so that a boy who is 17 or 18, a boy who is a peer, doesn't go to prison for having sex with a 16 year old. It's not so that far, far older men, especially men with power, fame and money like Russell, can engage in sex with a girl who has maybe had her period for like three or four years. You know what I'm saying? Here's Piers on that very same point with Russell. Here we go.
Piers Morgan
I suppose it's consent, Piers, Right. But the age of consent means in varying ways in different places, people have a understanding which probably isn't wholly accurate and reliable, that at a certain age a person is able to make a consensual decision to smoke a cigarette or vote or have sex or gamble. And these things vary according to jurisdiction and type of law. And in the place where I was both emotionally and spiritually and geographically, that was a legal thing to be doing, but not a morally sound thing to be doing.
Maureen Callahan
You notice what you really never hear Russell Brand say, I'm sorry, I fucked up, I never should have done that. It's all this distancing language and he's always plugging in words where they're totally extraneous and thus unnecessarily unnecessary. Excuse me, I'm so worked up. Morally, intellectually, geographically. Yeah, we get it, dude, we get it. You know that 16 year old in one of those comprehensive investigative reports claimed that Russell would often send a driver to her high school to pick her up and shuttle her to his mansion for sexual. Which is basically. That's like saying, you know what you are to me? You're like an instacart delivery. You're like an Amazon prime order. And she said that one day, the driver looked at her in the rearview mirror and said, honey, listen, don't go in there. You don't need to go in there. Don't do this. You know, her sense was that this guy had a daughter. And she was like, I wish I had listened. I wish I had listened to my recollection of that reporting. Now, Russell, as discussed, has become a big Bible thumper. He's way into the Bible. He's found Jesus Christ. So, you know, there's nothing at all theatrical about this. I find this kind of thing the last refuge of the scoundrel. You know, who else was big on carrying a bible into court every day when he was on trial? Sean Combs. So Russell's out hawking this book, how to become a Christian in seven days or less. You know, it's not like the 4000 Hour Lifespan book or like, you know, seven habits of highly effective people. This is, that's, it's, that's a desecration to anybody who really is a serious Christian or in any way really serious about their faith and their religion. And, you know, it takes a lot longer. I mean, could you become a Jew in seven days? No. I do think there needs to be better vetting in Christianity. I don't think we want you, Russell. I know. Like, I, I, I'm, I'm agnostic. I, I don't practice anymore. But, you know, I'm saying, like, I just think the bar needs to be higher. So here he is. This is, this is probably my favorite clip of the week because Piers is going to ask Russell if. If the Bible he's got with him on set is the one that he's been bringing into court with him. And Russell's like, yes. And Piers, this, this question is again, this may be a nerve award. This may be a nerve award. I gotta give it to Pierce. Here we go.
Interviewer
Asking a question about your Bible.
Piers Morgan
Yes, if you want to.
Interviewer
Thank you.
Piers Morgan
That.
Interviewer
Was that the one you took into court?
Piers Morgan
You're the very one.
Interviewer
Okay. What was your thinking of taking it into court and what you were seeing, looking at some passages, what were the relevant passages for you?
Piers Morgan
All right. Thank you for asking me.
Interviewer
Thank you. That didn't hurt today a little bit.
Maureen Callahan
Russell got very angry okay, we're going to start the clock now on how long it takes Russell to find the passage.
Piers Morgan
You're right. Beer did say, you know, be chilled. Sometimes I lose the chill, man.
Maureen Callahan
Scary guy when he loses the chill. He's a big guy. Imagine if you're a woman, you're caught alone with him. Just my opinion. Tick tock, Russell. Effing talk. Where's your Bible verse, dude? Where is it?
Piers Morgan
This is from Isaiah.
Maureen Callahan
Maybe he just forgot his readers in the car.
Piers Morgan
Excuse me.
Maureen Callahan
It's so important to him. It's so important to him that he cannot find.
Piers Morgan
Says here,
Maureen Callahan
Piers is just looking straight at the camera.
Piers Morgan
The word that Russell is the verse I was looking at that day was not this. I can't actually. I can't actually find the verse that I. That I had that day. But this is good enough.
Maureen Callahan
That's good enough. So to Pierce, his first question that we aired, the one that we aired first, can you trust your memory? And Russell at the end of it is like the verse I had that day. The verse I had that day that was so important to me. You would think he would know it, just like, you know, the power to paraphrase it. But he doesn't even fucking know it. He's on trial for his life. He's on trial for his life. Don't believe this guy's so full of shit. Just my opinion. Just my opinion. Coming up, real talk about the fashion industry, the Met gala, and really what we've lost. What we have lost. We are back in a minute. We are back. Now, before we get into this segment, I just, I meant to mention this in the Russell Brand segment, Pierce, you know, says to him, you slept with thousands of women. And I just have to note men who sleep with thousands of women who are quote, unquote, womanizers, in my opinion. They do not love women. They actually hate women. And they may be wrestling with something far deeper. You know, when Stacy Brown was on the other day talking to us about the Jackson family and how Joseph Jackson, the patriarch and his sons were all womanizers, and so he found it hard to believe that the claims that Joe could be sexually abusing all of his children, the boys and the girls, that, that could possibly be true. That actually tracked to me. It tracked completely. So the Kennedys, all, so many of them are womanizers. I think they hate women. I really do. It's all, you know, you know where I'm at with that shit. Okay, anyway, now on to the Met Gala, which we are days away from. We're. We're days away from over on the other side of town here at Nerve Central, we're going to be doing our livestream. They're having a lot of trouble selling tickets. I call this the Met Gala, brought to us by Amazon Prime Whole Foods. You know, Jeff Bezos basically purchased it for Lauren Sanchez. Bezos, that great Bulgarian. Even so, Meghan Markle has not been invited again. This is all against the backdrop of the Devil Wears Prada, too. And the Met Gala has completely lost any relevance. It's become a joke. It's a joke. This Radar online report, quote, a billionaire circus headline, Met Gala, quote, quietly slashing costs as it struggles to sell out amid backlash surrounding Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's involvement. So, listen, once upon a time, you would not only. It wasn't enough that any design house, any Advertiser had the $350,000 to spend to purchase a table. You still had to get approved by Anna to even set foot in the door. Now it's like they can't give these tables away. Reporting from Radar, Vogue doesn't control the conversation anymore. And if Vogue isn't essential, neither is the Met Gala. This is true. Culturally, this is true. Anna Wintour, her power is gone. Okay. When the original Devil Wears Prada came out, Anna Wintour was still so frightening, not just in the world of fashion and media, but Hollywood, that there were a number of actresses who were higher on the list than Anne Hathaway to play the character of Andy, who turned it down because they didn't want to alienate Anna and risk not getting a cover of Vogue or invited to the right fashion shows or to the Met Gala when that was still a thing. Now Anna is posing with Meryl Streep for Vogue, territorially pissing all over it, by the way, because she's on, like, a special cover of Vogue with. With Meryl. But there was one shot to me, that said it all. I think Annie Leibovitz photographed this. And again, it's like it's dinosaurs. You know, fashion is for the young. Like, the young should be coming in and infusing it with it with their own generational statements and stamps, and they're not these dinos. It's like. It's like American politics, you know? Like, they got to wheel these senators out in, like, you know, feet first. They won't leave. We've had demented senators who literally couldn't tell you what day it is. They're drooling, and they've got their staff voting for them because they will not give up. And that's Anna Wintour. That's Anna Wintour and Annie Leibovitz. You know, it's just enough. But anyway, it's Annie in the back. It's. I'm sorry. It's Anna in the back of, like, a limo with Meryl, who's, like, clowning around by, like, spreading her suit, panted legs open like you can see at Sassy magazine, which is going to come in a little bit later here. You know, I interned there. It was one of my earliest jobs out of college. But they. They used to call that camel toe. Like, my God, that's that. That whatever pant you're wearing. It's not good because you can see camel toe. This is what the great Anna Wintour has been reduced to. Back to the radar report. You paid that fee for Those tables at that bullshit. Because Anna mattered, another insider said of the gala and the style queen's waning influence. Her approval could make careers overnight. That kind of power, it's fading fast. It's done. I am here to say it's done. And I would like to just have a moment where we can revisit some of the most important generationally significant and defining magazine covers ever. Ever. I did a book years and years ago called Champagne Supernovas, and it's all about the fashion revolution of the 90s. I told it in a triple biography of the people who I think changed fashion forever before technology came in and just like rendered fashion really lost its power after the 90s. I think, for my money, last great decade, it was Kate Moss, Marc Jacobs and Alexandra McQueen who really changed everything. This is Kate on the COVID of the Face. This is a very young Kate. She's a teenage girl here. She might be 14 or 15 now. This is the third summer of love cover of the Face. And this cover broke all the rules. One of the main rules in magazine publishing is the subject on the COVID needs to be making eye contact with you, the potential consumer. And her face, she's squinting. You can't really see the eyes. It's a genuine smile. Notice Kate Moss does not have the social media Kardashianized reality TV face of today, where everybody's got enormous Chiclet veneers, where every tooth is the same length and size. You know, Kate said years and years later that she was really glad she never, quote, unquote, fixed her teeth, as I'm sure she was pressured to. The images in black and white. And I pulled this quote from the stylist, Melanie Ward, who has since died. Melanie died last October of cancer, way too young. I remember sitting with her. She sat with me and gave me a really long interview for Champagne. And she was so lovely, such a cool woman. And she was the stylist on that shoot. That photograph also was taken by Corinne Day, a British photographer who changed. She never gets enough credit. She never gets enough credit. She, too, died Aug. 27, 2010, of brain cancer. Her husband spoke to me at great length for the book as well. So, anyway, Melanie said this was an interview she gave with a. I think she gave it back to the face of that generationally defining shooting. She says, I collected up a mix of clothes that I liked. Some were mine, some were vintage, customized, even some designer. And I put them on Kate. Melanie said that she and Corin used to call Kate their little dress up doll Which I thought was really cute. Melanie continues. I also remember using Birkenstocks for that particular editorial. Unheard of back then. That was before high fashion got their hands on burks. And then Melanie says she bought the Amazonian feather headdress that they photographed on Kate. That she and Corin and Kate were all like a little family. They spent a lot of time together, as I also did with photographer David Sims. I recognized them as collaborators who, like me, liked to challenge themselves, push boundaries and didn't give up easily. There was no middle ground for any of us. The face cover of Kate Moss wearing the crown, that's really key. What Melanie says there, that's a crown. That's Gen X saying, it's our turn now, get out of the way. It's our turn. Melanie continues. Kate wearing the crown embodies a seminal defining moment in fashion and the music scene. The zeitgeist of the 90s. Everything changed. There was a new democratic freedom to express yourself, be different and also be true to yourself. The images became iconic, a personification of a youthquake, the so called third summer of love, with Kate as its muse. I loved Kate from the moment I met her. She is so real. There is no artifice or pretense. She is beautiful in every way, inspiring to dress and to photograph. Every photographer who has worked with Kate Moss says this. You can't take a bad photograph of her. She does not have a bad angle. Melanie goes on, kate has spirit, a personality, a great sense of humor, someone you want to spend time with. On the work front, she was very hard working, totally dedicated to working on the image with us, as much passion as us. She always cared about the end result and you could see it. Kate Moss came up against the Amazonian supermodels of the 80s, the Cindy Crawfords, the Christy Turlingtons. She was like tiny. She looked nothing like them. She wasn't perfect. And Gen X claimed her immediately as our own. Nirvana's Nevermind was released September 24, 1991. Also changed everything. And I'm including here, even though it's not what we would condition traditionally. Excuse me. Consider a quote unquote fashion magazine, Sassy magazine. The COVID of Sassy magazine, 4-21-19. No, wait, sorry. April 1992 issue. Ain't Love Grand With Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love on the COVID And this is important as well, because Sassy was, if it was the magazine for a certain segment of those of us young girls who grew up, just that was our bible. That was for the girl who did not see herself reflected in the pages of Seventeen magazine, nor did she want to. And what's significant about that is not only what Kurt and Courtney represented in terms of grunge and pushing the culture and the way everyone looked, but they did Sassy magazine before they did any other magazine. Not Rolling Stone, not Spin, not the Enemy or Melody Maker in the uk. They did Sassy magazine, and that said a lot. That was a statement. That was a generational statement. That was. They were planting their flag. They were saying, we're over here with you guys. Anna Wintour's first edition of Vogue as editor in chief, November 1992. Model Michaela Bercou, photographed by Peter Lindbergh in haute couture. Christian Lacroix wearing guest jeans that had not been done before. Anna likes to tell this story. I think it may be apocryphal that when the COVID went to the printers, the printers called the offices at Conde Nast and said, has there been a mistake? Because this doesn't look like a Vogue cover. I think maybe apocryphal. Nonetheless, Anna was saying, this is my magazine now. This is the way I see fashion. This is the way I not only see the culture going, but I'm going to push it that way. The mix of high and low, high and low. You can draw a direct line from that cover, which is brilliant, brilliant cover, that cover to what Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are doing at the Row. Direct line. Liz Tilburys, the genius editor in chief, British Liz Tilbarus, who was brought over to the United States to revive Harper's Bazaar. I will never forget this cover. I was so excited to buy this magazine when it came out. Like we had all seen the images before. It was on the newsstand and I was like, afraid it would sell out because you could tell it was so iconic. Her first issue of Harper's Bazaar. That's Linda Evangelista. Photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. Art directed by Fabian Baron. September 1992. Fabian Baron, he's of that same ilk too, of those Brits. Kate Moss, David Sims, Mario Sorrenti came out of there, you know, like it was a lingua franca. It was a visual language that everybody was talking about. Liz Tilburys, that cover, she was planting her flag. I'm about elegance. I'm about to sophistication and being a grown up. And this magazine has a point of view. It's completely minimalistic. There's barely the only cover line on that thing is the return of elegance.
Lady Colin Campbell
That's it.
Maureen Callahan
That's was groundbreaking. The graphic nature of it. Black and white. You only see one eye. You know, the A, like a jar in Linda's hand, her upturned palm. It was fun. She was saying, we're gonna be a little bit off here. We're gonna be a little bit sideways. And it's going to be fun, but it's going to be cool and elegant. Which brings us to Chloe Mao. The dud, the drip. The World War II Eastern European refugee. She's got all the glamour of someone coming off the train who hasn't bathed in a week with her schmatzahs in her bat. You know, this is a desecration. This is a joke. This is a joke. And I think Anna thought she was pulling a fast one by installing somebody so hapless, so uniquely unqualified that, you know, the overlords at Conde would just beg Anna to come back. And she's just killing it. She's killing it. By which I mean she is murdering this thing. It is a crime scene. Chloe Mal's first cover of Vogue. Her inaugural cover, which is just spring. Vogue, I think, publishes now four or five times a year, not monthly. First of all, I asked younger members of Team Nerve. I'm like, do you. Do you recognize this person? Do you know who Rosalia is? They were like, no. No cover line. Fashion gets fun. I defy you to tell me what that means. If you love fashion. Fashion is always fun. Even when it's outrageous or it's having a more serious, somber moment where it's reflecting something in the economy or the culture or politics. Fashion is fun. I mean, ask my bank account. You know, I have a shopping problem. Let's look at those other cover lines. If we can just pull that up once again. It's Gavin Newsom. Gloves off. Okay? Jonathan Anderson takes on an empire. Do you see what I mean? The banality. The utter banality. And by the way, not every. Even not like a casual Vogue reader isn't going to know who Jonathan Anderson is. These cover lines, Rosalia, the COVID line at light speed. I mean, just put them in the AI blender. Hey, how many cliches and banalities can you spit back at me? You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna put those on my inaugural Vogue cover so I can announce to the culture and the industry, the fashion industry and the media what it is I'm doing over here. My particular point of view, what it is, I have to say, I. I'm a newer generation. She's got Nothing to say. And it's over. It's over. I'm so depressed. So depressed. I will, however, still buy foreign fashion magazines. I'll buy Paris Vogue, Vogue Italia, you know, Vogue Japan, you know, but it's like America. It's just, it's just, it's a crime scene. All right, next week we will come back to all of your feedback. We also will of course, be chatting together in the live stream. That said, just keep your emails coming. At devil may care media.com and she is forwarding all of those over to me so they don't get lost in my inbox. Up next, Lady C. Lady Colin Campbell is here with some incredibly dishy royal insight. We will see you in a minute. A lot of skin companies out there are purporting to sell us wholesome natural products. The trouble is, most of the big names out there are owned by mega corporations and private equity firms that prioritize profits over quality. Fortunately, one company is doing things differently and that is Van Man. They started the tallow trend a few years back with their grass fed tallow moisturizers and they have been crushing it ever since. Tallow makes for a great moisturizer because the fatty acids are nearly identical to the oils in our own skin so our bodies actually recognize it. One use and you will feel the difference. And I can attest to that. I use their creams, their lip balms. These things are incredible. Plus, there are zero chemicals, no filler, and a little product goes a very long way. So it's economical too. Tallow balm. Excuse me? Tallow Balm isn't just a moisturizer. It can replace your night cream, your wrinkle cream, even Neosporin and diaper balm. It's powerful enough to heal the skin, yet safe enough to spread on your toast. And that's how you know these are real estate ingredients. If you are ready to ditch corporate chemicals, go to Vanman Shop Maureen and use code Maureen for 15% off your first order. That's code Maureen for 15% off your 1st order. Van Man. Real ingredients, no exceptions.

Joining us now is the one and only Lady Colin Campbell, better known to all of us as the inimitable Lady C. She's a royal biographer, a New York Times bestselling author, a palace insider, and she has never been afraid to say exactly what she thinks when it comes to the Sussexes, which makes her as nervy as it gets. She actually wrote the literal book. If you haven't availed yourself, do so. Meghan and Harry, the Real Story by Lady Colin Campbell. Welcome back to the Nerve.
Lady Colin Campbell
Lady C. Hello, my dear. Thank you for that very kind introduction. And incidentally, you're looking fabulous. Check out the pearls and the everything.
Maureen Callahan
You know. Lady C, I was just about to compliment you. First of all, thank you for the kind words. And every time I see you, you are more resplendent in your jewels and your pearls and your headbands and your makeup. You're just looking phenomenal. We are so thrilled to have you because, as you know, King Charles and Queen Camilla have wrapped up their state visit to the US for the 250th anniversary of our independence and to solidify the special relationship. One special relationship that is just increasingly less so is clearly the one between the king and his wayward son Harry. No visit? No, not so much a FaceTime with the grandchildren as far as we know. Tell us what this means.
Lady Colin Campbell
Well, I think it means that Harry's on the outs totally. First of all, we need to remember that California is 3,000 miles away from Washington and New York. So they weren't exactly in the same corner of the so to speak. But there was no way that the king or President Trump would ever have sullied the visit with having any reaction or interchange with Harry or Meghan. I mean, let's remember Meghan has been extremely abusive where Donald Trump is concerned from before he was president and when he was in Britain after the birth of Archie, she could have easily and should have joined the rest of the family at Buckingham palace and didn't. She was being very pointed because she is so politically aggressive. And it wasn't enough to snub him, but she had to let the world know that she was snubbing him. So of course, he's not going to have her. And quite frankly, my understanding is the king and the queen wouldn't have wanted Harry or Meghan within a thousand mouths of them because they would have stolen the attention. They would have died. You know, it would have become the Meghan and Harry, Dog and pony show.
Maureen Callahan
I love that. Dog and pony show. I love that. But ladies C. You know what I find interesting is that it could have been made clear that as. As back in September when there was that closed door summit between the King and Harry in Britain, it could have been made clear while the King was happy. You know, there's something about. Yes, I take your point. It's 3,000 miles roughly between California and, and D.C. but there's something about being in the same country, the same continent, and the younger members of the family not availing themselves of any number of private planes to go and have a quiet closed door meeting with their children, with the grandfather of these children. And I just, I find it remarkable. I also find it interesting that Charles and Camilla did a couple of very high profile things. They visited ground zero and then they went to Arlington National Cemetery, which in the United States is probably our most hallowed ground. It is for these slain service men and women of wars going back centuries. And that to me seemed almost a pointed rebuke to Meghan and Harry's stunt that they pulled when they first came to the United States on Remembrance Day. Remember that?
Lady Colin Campbell
Oh, you mean when she paraded in her high heels in the black dress, walking on the graves of all of. Yes, yes. So, so disrespectful.
Maureen Callahan
And they called the paparazzi. It was Harry and Megan's, you know, show of, of remembrance, even though they had ejected themselves from the Royal family. And wouldn't you know it, last week, Harry parachutes in, as it were, unannounced in Ukraine, calling for Vladimir Putin to end this war. I'm sure Vladimir Putin took that extremely seriously. And here he is. I would love your reaction to this. We're going to play just a little bit from ITV on April 24th. Harry being asked, is he still a working royal? Does he think that the phrase not a working royal is something that applies to him? Here we go.
Piers Morgan
Harry, do you recognize that phrase, not a working royal? I mean, it strikes me you're obviously
Maureen Callahan
from the Royal family.
Piers Morgan
You're here doing a trip, bringing attention to a really important cause that risks being forgotten. Do you recognize that description of you? No.
Lady Colin Campbell
I will always be part of the
Maureen Callahan
Royal family and, and I'm here working
Lady Colin Campbell
and doing the very thing that I
Piers Morgan
was born to do. And, you know, and I enjoy doing it.
Maureen Callahan
Lady C. I mean, if this is just not a complete attempt at telling the royals, you know, no matter what the late Queen mandated, when those two left with a nice amount of money, by the way Harry's going to do it his way, half in, half out, and so is his wife. And if the British Royal Family doesn't like it, too bad.
Lady Colin Campbell
Oh, absolutely. I mean, he has not only with Chris Ship in Ukraine, but he had his people announce in Australia that rarely they have ripped up the Sandringham agreement to which they had never agreed. Well, the fact of the matter is, it wasn't a matter of them agreeing or not agreeing. These were the terms and conditions under which they left. And, you know, Harry seems to have forgotten that he's dealing with a head of state and he's dealing with something that has legal power, and he and Meghan think they can just go and do whatever they want and that everybody's just going to have to accept it. I do think that there are things that the British Crown can do and should do, because at the moment, Harry is subject, as are all the other members of the Royal Family, to the Lord Chamberlain's guidance and the Lord Chamberlain's regulations governing the conduct of royals. And that includes no commercialization of their activities, save with the specific consent on each occasion. So anything they want to do commercially has to be approved up front and ticked off. They don't do that. They are completely ignoring the Lord Chamberlain's guidelines. But because they are merely guidelines, because they've never. The Royal Family has never had a problem like this, this before, where you have a really very disordered and disorderly couple just doing exactly as they please. Because even the Windsors, you know, never, ever just threw the rules back in everybody's face. And these are not laws, these are rules and guidelines. They really need to be beefed up. And they can be beefed up. And I would imagine if it doesn't happen in this reign, it's going to happen in the next reign where they will be beefed up and become and have force of law. Where, for instance, instead of the Lord Chamberlain's guidelines saying, you can't work, you can't do commercial activity save with the consent, but there are no consequences. The consequences could be that you are, if you defy the ruling that you will be prevented from using your title, not that your title will be taken away from you, that you will be prevented, there are all sorts of ways around this which have so far not been explored. And so far the rules haven't been actuated in such a way that they have lawful consequences, but they can have consequences. And I think something like this is going to have to be done down the line, because Meghan and Harry are both uncontrollable. He used to be controllable, was difficult to control, but he could be controlled. She has always been uncontrollable. One of the reasons why I wrote my book initially was that I was approached by people who were very concerned at her uncontrollability while they were both still in the royal family. And my book was initially conceived to be a shot across the bows. And my book was due to be handed in on Valentine's Day. And they leapt about four weeks, three weeks before they did Mexico. And so my book actually then had to be rewritten in vite. But the point is, this has always been a problem because Meghan has been uncontrollable from the word go. She doesn't care what anybody says. She does what she pleases. But this is not a way of running a country. And let's remember, we are dealing with a head of state and the royal family, so we are dealing with a country and a country's rules.
Maureen Callahan
You know, ladies, c. When you. When you just said that about the rules, that can be. You could put some muscle behind them and really try to get these two under control. When you said you could, you could say to them, you may not use the titles anymore. We will not strip you, but you may not use them. I hear that. And I think to myself, you know, as you just said, they have no regard they for anyone but themselves. They love spitting in the face of the British royal family. Were that to happen, I would imagine they would still insist on calling themselves the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, of being announced as such, as being treated as such, and, you know, to watch King Charles come here to the United States and be given a privilege that is really afforded to no other foreign dignitary or leader, which is to address Congress and to just wish that he could show the fortitude that is needed. I'm sure this is very difficult for him. It is his son. But this is completely out of control. Your son is in Ukraine. Speaking as a royal, what is happening?
Lady Colin Campbell
Well, of course, a part of the problem, Maureen, is that there are political issues going on behind the scenes because the British government is very left of the American government, and the British government, the French government and the German government don't actually want Trump to succeed in Ukraine. They have set about sabotaging many of the peace efforts for their own domestic political reasons. So there's all of that going on as well. But I think that even if Harry and Meghan were in breach of the beefed up rules and regulations, it would then put the royal family and the British family, government and the British nation in a far stronger position because people would then know that they are breaking the rules and that they are not. It would be a slap in their face. It would be removing some of their credibility. They wouldn't then be able to go on these faux royal tours because they would be going on four royal tourists as acknowledged phonies by the royal family. So I think that would. That would strip a layer of respectability from them that at the moment, still exists. What do you think?
Maureen Callahan
I. You know, I'm. As you're speaking, I'm thinking, okay, they have already announced that Africa is next. Harry and Meghan are going to do a. A faux royal tour of Africa. I just read a report before coming on with you that William and Catherine, who just celebrated their 15th anniversary this week, again overshadowed by these hijinks. These most unroyal hijinks are now reportedly planning their own trip to Australia as almost a response to Harry and Meghan's recent jaunt. And all of this just. It just feels way too messy. We in America watch this and we just cannot understand. I mean, is it a great distraction? Is this actually a great distraction from, say, Andrew and what's been happening with the Epstein files? Would the British royal family rather have us talking about these two than Andrew and what's coming next for him?
Lady Colin Campbell
Well, I think it's apples and oranges, but both of them are used to make fruit cocktail.
Maureen Callahan
I mean, I do think the Epstein files is far graver than, you know, Harry and Meghan. You know, Meghan trying to get another Netflix deal or. Oh, oh, did you hear this lady? See that? The reports in the United States are that Meghan Markle is convinced that her invitation to the Met Gala, which is on Monday, three days from now, is coming any minute.
Lady Colin Campbell
Oh, can you believe it, Maureen, you and I remember the night before last, we were having dinner with Anna Wintour, and Anna Wintour said, we can't have the Met Gala without. Without Meghan. And Lauren Bezos said, oh, absolutely. We need Meghan. Without Meghan, it won't have any class.
Maureen Callahan
I recall it well. You know, it's so funny. Lauren Bezos, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, who had Meghan and Harry to the private residence that she shares with Jeff for the. For Kris Kardashian 70th, which was only a few months ago. So if she. She's in with Lauren Bezos, who is the head of the Met Gala this year. The head. And Meghan is Persona non Grata. I mean, it just goes to show you. It just goes to show you she will never crack the world of high fashion, ever. Or what passes for high fashion these days.
Lady Colin Campbell
Well, she was never going to because she doesn't dress properly and she doesn't have the right figure. So, you know, I mean, I know that she used to have on her card that she was a supermodel. I mean, she was a supermodel.
Maureen Callahan
Did she?
Lady Colin Campbell
Yes, yes, she was a supermodel. And I was a bar of soap along with Cindy Crawford. Don't you remember? I mean, the woman is delusional. It's. But she also. She's so toxic now that nobody wants to associate with her. Remember when she was trying to worm her way into Dior and Dior said, no, thank you, but they gave Harry a Dior suit to wear to. Was it the Queen's platinum Jubilee?
Maureen Callahan
It was. Was it the Jubilee? They gave the Dior. Gave. That. That's. Yes. And then there was. There were the rumors. Well, will Harry sign as. As with the House of Dior. You know, but you're so right about that. I remember that, you know, you hear these big rumors going around and you know that it's Meghan calling whomever or one of her functionaries to say. To say, yeah, the House of Diors. They would die to have Meghan. They would die. You know, she's really. She's considering it. Speaking of. You know who's been very quiet lately? Lady C, now that I think about it. Omid Scobie.
Lady Colin Campbell
Oh.
Maureen Callahan
Have you any intel about what the state of his relationship with the gruesome twosome may be?
Lady Colin Campbell
Well, I think, darling, you mean. I mean, scabies, surely.
Maureen Callahan
Forgive me. I stand corrected.
Lady Colin Campbell
Funnily enough, he lives in the same building as the son of friends of mine.
Maureen Callahan
No kidding.
Lady Colin Campbell
Oh, I wish I. I wish I could find the phone photograph of him in the building. I think he's been markled the way Jessica Muller has been markled. He's of no further use. And everything he's tried recently, poor darling, has failed. You know, I mean, one's heart would bleed for him if one had a heart where he was concerned. But long does.
Maureen Callahan
It's so true. Everyone gets markled eventually. Everyone gets markled. And I guess I'll. I'll. I'll end with this for today. We still keep hearing that, you know, the ultimate mark, the ultimate person to be markled will eventually be Harry. It will eventually be Harry. And that the only way there is a. There will be a Way back for him, eventually, under a King William. I do not see it. I do not. But that. That way back, were there to be one, would be without Meghan. What do you think?
Lady Colin Campbell
Right now, it won't be with Meghan, that's for sure. I mean, the King, the Queen, The Queen, especially William and Catherine, don't want to have a thing to do with her. They all know she's anathema. I mean, the most forgiving of the four of them would be Charles. But he has a wife who, let's remember, Meghan has trashed Camilla, as has Harry, and Meghan has trashed the King, the racist king and the racist Princess of Wales. And William has never, ever been in a room alone with Meghan because he saw Meghan's possibilities up front. And he has made sure that in all the time that they have known each other, he was never in a room with her alone. So prevent the possibility of Meghan taking out her embroidery set and coming up with some fancy fandangle. And there's no way. Nobody wants to have anything to do with her because they know she's toxic. And also, what people don't realize is that the royal family is a lot more sophisticated in psychological terms than people think they are. I mean, most people all over the world think that the British are generally not as into psychology as the Americans. But let's remember Prince Philip's aunt, Princess Marie Bonaparte, Princess George of Greece. She was one of the two female psychoanalysts trained by Freud.

Wow.
Lady Colin Campbell
The King has had psychiatric treatment. The Queen, the late Queen had psychiatric treatment. The late Princess Margaret had psychiatric treatment. Prince Philip was heavily into psychology and the spiritual aspects of psychology. He was quite Jungian. So they are very sophisticated in terms of mental ill health, mental health and how to deal with it. So they're not some sort of ordinary British family. And going all the way back. They have been on the cutting edge of psychology. And people don't realize this. So there is. And anybody who has any experience of psychology will know that when you're dealing with somebody who has manifested the personality traits that Meghan has manifested, there's no cure, there's no solution. The only thing you can do is temporarily block that person. But they are like the sea. They will come back wave after wave after wave after wave. And they understand that, and they want to have nothing to do with her because any access will allow her to create havoc.
Maureen Callahan
Lady C, I wish we had more time. I cannot wait for your next appearance because I was unaware of how deeply invested in psychology and psychiatry, the British royal family is. You are absolutely right. Most Americans don't realize this. The branding that we get is, you know, stiff upper lip, never complain, never explain. And I find all of this so fascinating. And I will never tire of that tidbit that you deliver so eloquently, which is that William had her number from the get go and that he refused to be left alone with her because he knew what she is capable of. I love it and I do think it augurs very well for King William. I, for one, can't wait. We thank you so very much for yet another incredible appearance and time with you on the Nerve. Be well.
Lady Colin Campbell
It's ever a pleasure, my dear.

Episode: Russell Brand's Depraved Behavior, Meghan and Harry's Royal Disrespect, & Anna Wintour's Irrelevance
Date: May 1, 2026
Host: Maureen Callahan
Guest: Lady Colin Campbell ("Lady C")
This episode of The Nerve dives bravely into three hot-button topics: the serious allegations against Russell Brand, the ongoing Royal drama featuring Meghan and Harry's perceived disrespect, and the fading relevance of iconic fashion doyenne Anna Wintour. With her trademark mix of sharp intelligence, humor, and skepticism, Maureen Callahan dissects these stories that "no one else dares to have," featuring insightful analysis, direct quotables, and special guest Lady Colin Campbell for the Royal segment.
"People who go hard into Christianity and are the loudest about it...they're the biggest phonies of all." (01:39)
([06:50]–[14:21])
Brand faces trial in the UK, accused by six women of rape, sexual assault, and harassment (from 1999–2009).
Play-by-play of an Australian accuser who worked with Brand at the BBC recounts a disturbing encounter involving indecent exposure:
"Before you know it, his penis was on his hand and he was pretty much serving it to me as he would a dish." ([08:59])
Brand allegedly spoke cavalierly about this on a live interview shortly after:
"I texted the BBC person to say, I was just in the bathroom and Russell Brand shut the door and showed me his penis. And he said, yes, I know he's talking about it on air." ([10:36])
Callahan finds this and similar stories “very credible,” importantly noting that British libel laws make such published allegations highly scrutinized for evidence.
Multiple accusers' stories are recounted in detail, including that of a 16-year-old (while Brand was 31), and significant text evidence is shared on air.
"Brand replied, saying he was, quote, very sorry. That exchange isn’t…it was memorialized in text messages. What are you sorry about, Russell?" ([18:51])
([13:36]–[32:59])
Brand has adopted a "targeted victim" narrative, appearing on Piers Morgan and Megyn Kelly’s shows, portraying himself as a victim of a “witch hunt.”
Maureen critiques Brand’s avoidance tactics, fast-talking style, and penchant for “obfuscation and distraction.”
On the age of consent and his relationship with a 16-year-old:
"Any decent 30-year-old man … if they find a 16-year-old girl sexually attractive … that's a child." ([26:22])
Brand's distancing language, moral equivocation, and spiritual posturing are called out:
"You notice what you really never hear Russell Brand say? 'I'm sorry, I fucked up, I never should have done that.'” ([28:17]) “That’s not the definition of predation.” ([23:35])
Brand brings his Bible to media appearances, but can’t recall the relevant passages:
“He cannot find. That’s good enough.” ([32:28]–[32:59])
([35:38]–[49:34])
Callahan declares the Met Gala irrelevant:
"I call this the Met Gala, brought to us by Amazon Prime Whole Foods ... It's become a joke. It's a joke." ([36:29])
Jeff Bezos is accused of buying the event for Lauren Sanchez, with Meghan Markle pointedly uninvited.
Anna Wintour’s power is “done”; the Met Gala faces ticketing and relevance crises ("a billionaire circus").
Current Vogue under Chloe Mal is called a "crime scene":
“She’s murdering this thing. It is a crime scene.” ([49:35]) "Fashion is for the young. Like the young should be coming in … it's like American politics, they got to wheel these senators out ... they won't leave." ([37:13])
Current covers are skewered as “banality” and “AI blender” nonsense; foreign editions are praised as a last refuge for fashion lovers.
([58:22]–[82:20])
"You may not use the titles anymore. We will not strip you, but you may not use them." ([69:21])
Reports of Meghan expecting a Met invite are mocked:
"She doesn't dress properly and she doesn't have the right figure... I was a bar of soap along with Cindy Crawford. Don't you remember? I mean, the woman is delusional." ([75:12])
Tales of failed attempts to break into Dior and luxury ties (“She’s so toxic now that nobody wants to associate with her.” ([75:52]))
"Everyone gets markled eventually ... the ultimate mark... will eventually be Harry." ([77:25])
William is praised for never being alone in a room with Meghan, recognizing her "possibilities up front."
“When you’re dealing with someone like Meghan … the only thing you can do is temporarily block that person. But they are like the sea; they will come back wave after wave after wave.” ([81:26])
