Hi insiders, it's Erika Mandy here and this one is just for you. Before we get started, I do want to say it means so much to have your support as an insider. It helps us keep making the newsworthy, supporting our team, and it gives us the flexibility to stay true to our approach without having to worry too much when we have to turn down a potential sponsor. I mean, just one recent example was when I had to turn down a major prediction market company as a sponsor. I believe that would have been a big conflict of interest. So truly, thank you for helping to make sure we have financial support regardless. And for this episode we will start with the questions about how the show gets made. We got several of those. And how we make editorial decisions like choosing stories. Then we'll get into a couple of the final more personal questions. So let's get into it. Okay. I'll start by answering Andrew and Rachel's questions about our process for choosing stories. We look at three main things, generally in this order when deciding which stories will make it into the newsworthy each day. So number one, what's the most important and or most talked about news of the day? We want our listeners to stay engaged in that national conversation. We never want you to feel like you're living under a rock or don't know about something that's important. Number two, what truly impacts our listeners lives the most? This is not just about politics. Our lives are varied and therefore impacted by everything from, you know, know, Supreme Court decisions to advances in medicine to even Amazon's new delivery systems. Right. We like to make sure that our daily news reflects everything that might show up in your daily life. Number three, we ask ourselves, do we have a wide variety of stories in each episode? These days there does seem to be more political news stories than ever. So this can be tricky. But we do our best and really prioritize ensuring that we don't have too much of any one kind of story or too much depressing news in one day. We always try to counterbalance sad or complex stories with some just as relevant, positive, interesting, lighter news stories as well. This also means we aren't going to repeat the same news stories for three days straight if there are not actually any new significant developments. So overall, what's the biggest news? What's the most impactful to our listeners? And how do we ensure variety when looking at the episode as a whole, along with the limited time that we have? And final point that I'll say we consider which stories need to be talked about right away and which stories are ongoing or more evergreen where maybe we have a chance to talk about it later and it doesn't have to be in today's episode. So let's say it's a high profile trial and jury selection is now underway and a lot of news outlets are talking about it, but there's really no action yet and there's a ton of other news that we have to cover that day. We might not report on the fact that the trial started and instead wait for certain really important testimony or the verdict to tell you about that. So this allows us to meet our time and tone requirements in each episode while still ensuring we eventually get to everything that we do want to cover within a certain week or month or however long. We also keep a calendar of upcoming news events and important notes so we talk about each story at the most relevant time ideally and don't forget about anything along the way. We also have ongoing lists for each of our themed segments at the end of each episode. So Money Monday, Work Wednesday and all of those. We're always adding ideas to our lists so we can pick the best one each week and a lot of them don't end up getting used because we found a better one throughout the week. And just to finish answering Rachel's question, she also asked about how many people are on our team. So we currently have a total of five people on the Newsworthy's main team. Emily and I are both full time and then we have two part time producers, Jasmine and Colin and an audio editor, Jordan. We have in the past had additional Daily show and newsletter writers that we may look to add again in the future. Um, and then I do partner with various organizations such as the ad agency I work with, I've worked with them for many years, and Supercast, which runs the software that powers this membership and can help any insiders that have tech problems, that sort of thing. But huge shout out to the Newsworthy team for all of their hard work. They are amazing. I absolutely could not do this show alone and I'm very grateful for all of them. Thank you so much for listening to the preview of our Insider bonus Ask Me Anything episode. If you'd like to hear a bit more about our process for the show as well as my daily schedule personally and when I sleep and a couple more answers that I provide, we'd love for you to become an insider. To get immediate Access, head to thenewsworthy.comInsider and from there you can start a free seven day trial. You'll get immediate access to this bonus episode. You'll get. You can comment on it within your Supercast account. Of course. You'll also get ad free versions of every episode that we do as long as you're an insider and you'll be supporting our team and the work we do here. So I don't talk about the Insider membership all that much and I wanted to make sure that you 1 know about it and 2 give you a peek into what you actually get. That said, I do appreciate all of our listeners. It means so much to us, truly, that you turn to us on a daily or weekly basis for important information. We do not take that lightly. If you do wanna support our work, but really don't wanna become an insider, telling your friends and family about the show goes such a long way. You can text them the link, tell them why they should be listening. That's huge. Other little things, like a kind review on your favorite podcast platform are also really helpful ways for us to spread the word and continue doing this work. So thanks again for being here. We'll be back on Monday with the. It.
