Welcome to another episode of the official Yellowstone Podcast. I am your host, Bobby Bones, and everything is being remade, rebooted, prequeled sequel. And so I thought two things. One, if they were to reboot Yellowstone as we know it now, they're already prequeling it with some great series Mad. But if they were to reboot it, or if this were an alternative timeline and we had to recast Yellowstone like the show had never existed and we're back to whatever year it was whenever they're deciding, you know, I think we should go after Kevin Costner, I have recast Yellowstone top 10 in some cases top 5 recasts depending on the significance of the character. And you can let me know or not. You can nod to yourself if you'd like. And these are my lists of recasts. If they were to recast Yellowstone A because hey, let's just launch it again like everything else does, or two, because we're in a different timeline. And this is years ago. We'll start with John Dutton, obviously. Kevin Costner, fantastic pick. I remember when I first saw that Yellowstone was a show. Now again, I did not get into Yellowstone until season two. Much like everything else nowadays, it's mostly word of mouth that gets you to watch something. And I had a friend that I watched all of Yellowstone season one and my wife was like, we should watch Yellowstone and how I grew up. My stepdad watched a lot of westerns and I was like, I'm good, I'm good. I've had enough westerns in my life. And so finally, midway through season two, I believe, got into it. Loved it, right? So I've seen every episode. Loved that I got to watch season one binge and go right to season two binge. Recently we just did that with the Recruit, which is a show on Netflix where season two was out already. And it's pretty cool because you have a lot of episodes stored up and that's. It's always a great feeling whenever there's a new show that you like and you look and there are a lot of episodes stored up because this week to week stuff, it is not for me anymore. It was how I grew up, but it's not for me anymore. John Dutton recasts. Here we go at number one, Josh Brolin. Josh Boland. You would know from no country for Old Men. Outer range. Like, if I were to guess his age, probably mid-50s, early 60s, not sure, but gritty, rugged. He's already proven in the western settings. And he can do stoic, which is important, but he can also do vulnerable, which is also what made Kevin Costner really strong in his role as John Dutton. Because he wasn't always just hard. He wasn't always just an only I'm the lead cowboy, so I must keep this cement presence. Number two, Jeff Bridges. I love Jeff Bridges. First of all, think I can play anything. Deep voice. And he's in the Old Man. If you. Have you ever seen the Old Man? That is an awesome show. But I go, Jeff Bridges, grow the deep boys. He's also very believable as someone who has. How would I describe it? Carried a lifetime of burdens. I feel like he'd be a little less sharp than Kevin Costner, but I feel like he could also be a lot more philosophical than Kevin Costner. At number three, I have Kurt Russell. Very much a western legacy. A lot of charisma at times, can have an energy that seems a bit intimidating. Would probably play John Dutton a little More wild. Like gunslinger wild is what I think of. But still in control. Those are my top three. If I'm tearing these out, those are my top three John Dutton recasts. Now, the others I have. Here I have five others a little more out of the box. Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad, Malcolm in the Middle. I don't know. There's a role he couldn't play because the guy is complex. I don't even know what a good actor is sometimes. I could see somebody go, man, that person's a terrible actor. But it's. I don't drink, so it's hard for me even to say wine. But I have friends that will go, oh, yeah. I can't tell the difference in an expensive wine or a cheap wine. And I have friends that have grown up in settings where they can go, oh, I taste olive in this wine. That's a terrible example, because I don't know what you taste. I taste granola in this wine. But with actors, for the most part, I'm the same way. Like, I don't know that Ben Affleck's not a great actor. To me, he's awesome. Ever seen Armageddon? But Bryan Cranston, all that being said, is an awesome actor just because I've seen him be convincable in many different areas. So, yeah, he's the master of that. He could show John Dutton as a guy doing the wrong things for the right reasons, like a ranching Walter White. I do love Bryan Cranston. I almost put him up in the top tier, but I feel like he wasn't standard enough to what that character represents. But it only represents it because Costner pulled it off so well. Right. So it's a bit un unfair when I do my casting, because I'm casting it partially based on what the current John Dutton already is. I'd put Denzel Washington in there. No one has quiet authority like Denzel Washington. No one has intensity and like a wisdom. And I do not know how to define that. Someone has wisdom in their characters and they are automatically believable. John Q. With Denzel Washington. Where a Son Needs a Heart. One of the most underrated. You could go 25 densel. Watch the movies Deep. I think he'd be awesome. Matthew McConaughey. Now, McConaughey did exist in other layers of this, but we're talking about casting for it originally. Cowboy credentials, check. His version would be a bit more spiritual. I can't do an impression, but he'd give John Dutton a slightly more Southern Texan vibe. Probably why I didn't put him in tier one, I think. Idris Elba Thing about Idris Elba that blows my mind is the fact that he has a British accent. Now he wouldn't play the character British, but Idris Elba a plus. Like Idris Elba is in the top list of cool actors ever. Doesn't matter what he's doing, why he's doing it. That is just cool. But also like strong. Like physically strong. Like a character like John Duttons would need to be. And then this was my way, way, way out of the box one. Mostly because I was just on a flight when I did a lot of this. I was on a flight and so I'm flipping through movies and I saw the Drummer movie. It'd be nice if I can remember the name of that movie too. I remember the names of no movies and no songs. J.K. simmons. I know him from the insurance commercial. Gritty old dude. He's old dude. He's intense, but that dude's like explosive. He takes no prisoners, it seems. So that would be my John Dutton recast.

These are my Beth Dutton recasts. The wild thing about Beth is kind of the wild thing about Idris Elba. I guess just Idris in the first one is that she's not American. And whenever she talks and she's not talking, it's Beth Dutton. I don't know who that is, but my Beth Dutton recasts are number one. And I have four tier ones. Charlize Theron I think 10 years ago she probably would have been too young to do it. I'm not even sure how old she is now, but she's one elegant like Beth is and can be at times, but ferocious and can go full chaos. Margot Robbie, a lot of energy. She would definitely be a more youthful, ish version. And I might maybe just be thinking of roles with her and I I think Margot Robbie would be an interesting pick because I think she could play very manipulative as much or more so. Beth Dutton, Emily Blunt. Also not American. I think she can be intense. I think she can be intimidating. I've seen her in movies where she has to be like a cop. I think Sicario is one of those. Or like a border agent, but very emotionally layered. I think that she would play Beth as a little less unhinged. So a little less of I'm gonna burn every freaking thing down, but a little more of let me strategize this exactly how I'd like to strategize it and then watch it burn in the proper way of it burning layer by layer, just as I had planned. The box Three casts. Aubrey Plaza, massive fan, unpredictable. She's extremely deadpan, obviously. I feel like the deadpanness, if that's a word of Aubrey, Aubrey Plaza would make that Beth unhingedness so uncomfortable that that might be really cool. Might be. Again, this is an out of the box casting. That might be cool. Florence Pugh, a little young could bring new emotional layers to Beth, especially in the family scenes. I like her. She just might be a little young for the role, but I thought she could be a cool Beth Dutton. I'm gonna hit you the one that's unconventional and one that I think will be awesome. Brace yourselves, hold your chair, take five seconds and guess who I'm going to say because it's gonna be so unconventional that you're gonna go, you're gonna hear. It'll probably go, no way. You're gonna go, no way. But I think if you just let your mind accept the fact that I am occasionally, sometimes almost some, whatever. It's Lady Gaga. Regardless of her music, her meat dresses, her stage performances, she can freaking act again. Not conventionally, what we know now as Beth Dutton, but we wouldn't know what Beth Dutton was conventionally because this would be in the other timeline. Well, I guess if we're recasting it, it wouldn't be. But other timeline. Lady Gaga would be awesome because she was. Would be freaking fierce. Zoe Kravitz. Zoe's cool, aloof. I think her version of Beth would be a bit more modern, but I like Zoe Kravitz and then Sarah Snook because Sarah Snook was awesome in succession. I did read an article a couple days ago where I think Sarah Snook is taking on a role in Broadway and she's doing what Taylor Swift said she did before she went on tours, her training regimen, which is no caffeine, and then do all of her lines on a treadmill. Because in Broadway there's a lot of running around, dancing around, walking around while a sudden you're walking. Next thing you know, like, I'm just singing in the way. I forget what exactly it was. But I think Sarah Snook would have been an awesome Beth. I'm convincing myself to put her in tier one, but she's already played the manipulative, if needed. Also very likable, twisted, super intelligent daughter. I think she could take that even darker with the Beth I Think I'm putting Sarah Snook in my. In my top. So there's four and four. Yeah, I got to put Sarah Snook in that one. If they make a graphic for this, I hope they. They go. And they may not make a graphic. I don't. I hope they go conventional, recast in a different timeline. Unconventional, per Bobby Bones. Rip Wheeler. Everybody loves Rip. First of all, I'm going with. I may say his name wrong, but I just know him from the Punisher. The John. John Bernthal. I love that dude. Intense, muscular, ripped, brooding, like tough guy, but also can do emotions. Might be my favorite. Scott Eastwood will be good. Has the look, has the legacy. Might be a little too clean, but it's really not that hard to dirty somebody up. Taylor Kish, Friday Night Lights. Waco played Branch Davidian. I'm trying to think of Waco. Yeah, Waco was the one where I'm getting all my shows mixed up at this point. But yeah, he was David Koresh and Waco and he was really good in it. I like Taylor Kish for it. Jason Momoa, I think would be interesting as Rip Wheeler because now you're gonna have to hide a lot of the tattoos, but there's nobody more physically imposing. And also Jason Momoa can do the love and the violence almost at the same time. Like big mountain man with a big heart. Like, I think Jason Momoa would be a really great Rip. That is a monster. My out of the box recasts in this one. I probably could have put like 10 people in the box for this one. Because remember, Rip was a guy that was. Or a kid that was just found where whomever you cast as John, there's going to have to physically be some semblance with Beth and with Casey because those are his biological children right now. You could rewrite the storyline for sure and they could be adopted or half or. But with Rip, there are no rules because Rip, just a kid, he saved Adam Driver. Adam Driver's a little awkward looking. That comes from another slightly awkward looking guy, but scary. Can play Rip as emotionally repressed, but like a volcano. And like, that dude was like, literally in the military too. Jake Gyllenhaal, who could do any role like this. Gyllenhaal would be awesome. Vulnerable and soulful. It would just be tough. The reason Jake Gyllenhaal would be tough in this role is because he is Jake Gyllenhaal. And it would be hard to see Jake Gyllenhaal in a secondary ish role when he's Jake Gyllenhaal. But I think if he said this is his buddy Mike Gyllenhaal or his brother Mike Gyllenhaal, if it was really Jake, we may accept it a little more because he can do it all. And he gets extremely ripped up for like his fighting movies when he had Roadhouse because he did Roadhouse and then he did that Apple TV series when he was a lawyer and he was so ripped up in that lawyer series because of Roadhouse that he had been training for that. It was like, this lawyer is a little too ripped up. But yeah, dude, ripped. How about Shia LaBeouf? Okay, I hear you, I hear you. Go Lady Gaga and Shia LaBeouf. Well, I wouldn't cast those two at the same time to be fair. But like Shia LaBeouf, great actor, chaotic in real life and on screen, can do both of those. If you want a rip that is unhinged at times with moments of real tenderness, I think Shia LaBeouf would be awesome.

All right, so far, Represent John Dutton, Beth Dutton, and Rip. Let's do Casey. Glenn Powell would be an awesome Casey. Don't lie. Don't lie to yourself. Glenn Powell, be an awesome Casey. Good looking dude, has the charm. Put a little gruff on him, he'd be smooth, but not too smooth. Glenn Powell can pretty much do anything right now. Rock and roll. That'd be the one. But then I go, what about Austin Butler? Good looking dude, can play intense, can play magnetic. Like, can be super intense, but also can make you really like him when he needs it. Has a lot of range. Can I go, Liam Hemsworth here? Can I go, Liam Hemsworth here? Maybe he lacks the depth, but I say maybe because what do I know? Maybe the roles that he's just taken haven't needed a lot of depth. So he hasn't been. But can I say Liam Hemsworth? I mean, super safe choice if you want to play it straight. And you know, if you took your shirt off, go like, oh, I mean, even I would. I mean, J.K. simmons and drums with Miles Teller. And he's probably like, why are you texting me instead of googling it? And that is a great point. Whiplash. Thank you very much. Joe Keery, wild card. A lot of heart, a lot of curiosity. It would skew younger, a bit more introspective, I think if you don't know who Joe Keery is, he's Stranger things. He is. He played Steve in Stranger things. So it wasn't One of the young kids. You know, he is. If I say that. Steven. Stranger things. You know who that is? I think he'd be a pretty solid Casey at this point. I think he's gotten old enough. I'll give you another one. Lakeith Stanfield. He was in Atlanta. I think he'd be good. I think Jeremy Allen White would be interesting. Jeremy Allen White, Chef. Hey, Chef, cook this. Chef. French on the barbie. Chef. French fries. Chef. Hamburger. Chef. Saw him in California once. I forget the name of the really expensive place you go to get food. It's like a really expensive Whole Foods. But we were there and he was there and I went up to him and I said, you'd be great as Casey. Actually, I did, because that was about a year and a half ago. I wasn't even doing this podcast yet. They hadn't even asked me to do this podcast yet. But I think he'd be pretty good. And if I'm gonna do one more out of the box, I think I'm gonna go and I think his name is Nicholas Holt. H O U L T. British kid. You've probably seen him in some. I'm trying to think what you would know him. He was in About a boy. He was in X Men, First Class, Mad Max, Fury Road. Oh, okay. How about juror number two? Did you watch that? That was awesome. Yeah, out of nowhere awesome. But awesome. I'm gonna give you one more with Jamie, which, by the way, I think Jamie really got a raw deal. Listen, I know Jamie was up to no good. I know Jamie did some bad stuff. But Jamie was placed in a world of bad. It's hard to put somebody in a world of bad and expect them to do good. And he did some good. I feel like Jamie, because I will say no more. You're going to find me be a Jamie apologist. A lot of times, justice for Jamie Dutton is what I say. Okay, James Marsden, who I'm going to tell you right now, no idea how this Dude's in his 50s, loved James Martin Marsden and Jury Duty. Do you ever watch this? Do you watch a show, I think it's called Jury Duty, where they trick the one person into thinking they're not a jury and everybody else is an actor. And James Marsden plays himself. James Marsden plays, quote, James Marsden, who can't believe he's on jury duty because he's famous. And not only that, James Marsden is in the show now called Paradise. That's on Hulu. That is now. I think it's over. It's a Four and a half or five out of five show, I think it's over. I'm pretty sure the last one happened. But I've been on a trip overseas for a week and my brain is mushy mushroom. But I think James Marsden would be an excellent Jamie. I think Jesse Eisenberg would have been a good Jamie. Not going to spend a lot of time with Jamie here. These are just all my. My straight. I don't have any super out of the box ones, I guess. I think Alexander Skarsgard would be good because he would play cold, attached, dangerous. It's funny, as I'm going through all my people, a lot of them are European. Do they just win now? Are they just winning at everything when it comes to creativity? Because even the shows that we've been watching recently, a lot of them have really wonderful European actors that are playing American roles or they're just shows. Like, we watch a couple of shows. One was from, like, Sweden. I don't want to watch shows where I have to read what they're saying at the bottom of the screen. But they're so good that I do. But Skarsgard would be good. I'm gonna say Armie Hammer as well. I don't know. He'll try to eat the cast. I'm not sure what happened. Controversial dude. Don't think I'd be friends with him. I say controversial because I don't know if he really did stuff. I don't know. Allegedly. Hey, allegedly controversial. I'll do both. Possibly allegedly controversial. But before he got in trouble, he was like the golden boy with darkness. And I think he could have nailed that with Jamie Dutton. Matt Bomer. Is that how you say his name? Matt Bomer? I wrote it down as I was going through. And I like Matt Bomer. He's really good looking. Meaning, oh, here's a soap opera guy. Back in the day, he was in Glee. He was in Magic Mike. He was in a lot of stuff. White Collar. You probably know White Collar, that show from back in the day. The Sinner. I like Matt Bomer. Didn't realize. I think that's his name. Okay, I'm gonna give you one out of the box here on Jamie. Rami Malek. And the reason that's out of the box is because what works for him so well is he's always kind of odd. He's an odd look. Take it from another odd looking guy. I feel like when I say that, I need to say yeah. I also know I'm no beauty model. It's Got an odd look. Was great in the Queen movie. Like Freddie Mercury. He crushed that Mr. Robot. I don't know if you guys watched that back in the day. A plus. But I think I'm worried about saying Matt Bomer's name and I'm not even sure if I'm saying Rami Malek's name right. Yeah, I think he'd be odd. I think he'd be a really internal character, meaning you're always really wondering what he's thinking. He seems like he's quietly dangerous and he could be an isolated Jamie. I think he'd be an emotionally, emotionally fractured Jamie, whatever those terms are people use for actors. So that's my one out of the box on Jamie. The rest of those straight up. Yeah, but that's it. You know what I want to say? This is. I don't want to say it as a reboot. I know I'm at the end of this now and. Or later on I was like a reboot or I'm just going to say different timeline or 10 years ago. 10 years ago. This whole saga is starting and the people they absolutely cannot get are the ones that ended up being in Yellowstone. Who would you try to cast? I think that would be the list of who I will be trying to cast. Then 10 years ago, they wouldn't have this success. Okay, stop. Now we're in a broken time machine and I've confused myself.
