We have big news this morning regarding the war in Iran and gerrymandering in the United States of America. The war in Iran. Once again, the American media is falling for the trap, manipulating the market on behalf of Donald Trump and the Trump administration. And as an independent journalist, I just refuse to stay silent about it. This morning, once again, a report from Barack Rabid and Axios came out saying that the United States and Iran are closing in on a deal. The market jumped. Oil prices tanked. Now we're learning that they are not actually close to a deal after all. Donald Trump is telling reporters, don't fly to Pakistan. Once again, Barack Ravid and Axios are actively helping the president and those around him manipulate the market. And it's something everyone needs to know what's happening. So, like Comment Share subscribe because it's very chaotic right now and I want to help parse through the details. If you can subscribe to my substack, click the link below to support independent journalism that won't normalize this because here's what we saw this morning. This is what came out of Axios. The White House believes it's getting closer to an agreement with Iran on a one page memorandum of understanding to end the war and set a framework for more detailed nuclear negotiations. The big picture, well, the United States expects Iranian responses on several key points in the next 48 hours. Nothing has agreed yet, but the sources say that the closest path to an agreement since the war began, provisions would include a deal that would involve Iran committing to a moratorium on nuclear enrichment, the US Agreeing to lift its sanctions and release billions of dollars in frozen Iranian funds, and both sides lifting restrictions regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Many of the terms laid out in the memo would be contingent on a final warning, on a final warning, leaving the possibility of renewed war. So that's what, that's what they put out. Right. And within minutes, the oil market tanked. The oil market tanked. And that's a good thing, right? Oil prices fell and, well, people were like, oh, we're closer to a war, but let's talk about this. Axios reported that a deal was imminent five times in 19 days. Five times, no deal. The question is, why does the same story keep coming from the same reporter? His name is Barack Ravid. Deep sources in the White House and Israeli intelligence. Every time the administration needs to pressure Iran or move oil, Ravid gets the call. $760 million in oil shorts placed in 21 minutes before the April 20th Iran announcement. Who knew? Yesterday, Trump paused the naval operation in Hormuz. Markets rallied, but zero US Ships have crossed the strait yesterday. Iran says they have not even begun yet. Does that sound like a deal? Iran wants five years on enrichment. The US demands 20th. Is that a negotiation or performance? Every time the leak drops, oil sells off and futures rally. And again, it happened today. According to an analysis, $920 million worth of crude oil shorts were taken 70 minutes before an Axios report claimed the United States and Iran were near a 14 point deal to end the war. At 3:40am nearly 10,000 contracts worth of crude oil shorts were taken out without any major news. 920 million in notational value, an unusually large trade for 3:40am Just 70 minutes later, Axios reported that there is a memorandum of understanding that the United States is close to ending the war in Iran. And by 7am oil prices had fallen 12%. Crude oil shorts gained approximately $125 million. Minutes later, Iran launched the Persian Gulf Strait authority and oil prices surged 8%. We are seeing market manipulation in real time. No, we are not closer to a deal today than we were yesterday. And the fact that Axios and Barack Rav continue to be a mouthpiece for this administration is simply unacceptable and it must be called out. And it's why I'm independent. It's why I'm calling it out here. If you can subscribe to my substack link below to support my work. I spoke to because in other news, there's a major push on gerrymandering. After Democrats won big in Michigan last night, they now want to gerrymander. Republicans want to gerrymander South Carolina and gerrymander Jim Clyburn, the only black congressman from South Carolina out of his seat. And so I spoke with Juliana Stratton, who's running for United States Senate in Illinois, will likely be the senator from Illinois, about the client's decision, gerrymandering and much more. Take a listen, let me know what you think. Like comment Share get the word out. My interview with Juliana, super excited Today to be joined by Democratic nominee for Senate, Juliana Stratton in Illinois. I want to jump right in and talk about the recent voting rights decision. And Calias, what was your reaction the moment the decision was handed down?
C
Well, it was devastating. You know, I think my mind immediately went to the fact that I have a dad, not a grandfather, not a great grandfather, but a father who in 1965 marched from Selma to Montgomery in protest of voting rights discrimination. And not just him, but so many others who knew how important it was to make sure that everyone had access to, to the ballot. And just with this one decision, even though there have been efforts all along to try to erode voting rights and access to the ballot, this decision by the Supreme Court really just unraveled 60 years plus of progress. And the main point of it was really to, was to dilute black political power. And so I was devastated. I was angry and continued to be just motivated to keep talking about ways that we need to really stand up, fight for our civil rights and how we really need to see some real change with this United States Supreme Court that is rubber stamping Donald Trump's authoritarian agenda.
B
Now, I want to talk to you about the Supreme Court, but before I do, you are the lieutenant governor of Illinois first. Before you are senator soon. And there's a lot of conversation about possibly redrawing Illinois maps in response to the Supreme Court decision. Democrats are saying, well, let's make Illinois a 17 to 0 map. What are your thoughts about that?
C
Well, I think that there is some conversation about bills here in Illinois. I mean, look, when I think about the issue overall, what we are seeing is a real need to keep everything on the table. I think right now, you know, we've had our primary in Illinois, and I know that there's some legislative efforts that started to move forward. I don't think that that's going forward, but I think that what we really need to do and certainly as I'm the lieutenant governor heading to the United States Senate, I hope after the November election is really fight to make sure that we pass the John Lewis Voting Rights act and make sure that all across the nation that we can ensure that voting rights are protected for everyone and not just taking it on a state by state basis.
B
Are you willing to pass legislation to end gerrymandering nationwide when you get to Washington?
C
Well, yes, when we get to Washington and we can make sure that the Republicans are not doing what they're doing. Remember, what we're seeing is that they're coming after, you know, state Legislatures all across this country and trying to redistrict and slowly but surely undoing the progress that we have made. And they don't want to see fair maps. They're trying to dilute, as I said, black and brown voting power and trying to take away the right to vote. When we can get to a place where we can fight for an end to gerrymandering on the national scale, of course we should look at that. But until then, we need to do whatever we can to make sure that we're not letting them just go forward and just with their power grab and take away political power from so many, especially from our black and brown communities.
B
Now, you mentioned the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. A lot of the reason why it hasn't passed yet is because of the filibuster. If you were in the United States Senate today, would you support getting rid of the filibuster to pass that legislation and other legislation to protect voting rights? Yes.
C
When the Democrats retake the Senate, I think it's important that we abolish the filibuster and make sure that we can accomplish so many of the things that we could accomplish. But for that, I mean, think about the progress that has been held up, the civil rights that we have not been able to get, you know, legislation that we have not been able to get passed, including the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. So that's one of the things that will be a priority for me. And when these Democrats are back in charge, then, then we need to abolish the filibuster so that we can make sure that we make real progress. By the way, I want to just note that we've made a lot of progress here in Illinois. A lot of the things that is being held up by the filibuster at the federal level, we've been able to get things done here in Illinois. And that's the same kind of leadership that I want to bring to Washington.
B
Now, you mentioned the Supreme Court and Supreme Court reform. What does that look like to you as a United States Senator?
C
Well, I think everything should be on the table, honestly. I mean, we need to look at whether there are term limits for the Supreme Court. We have to look at whether or not we can expand the Supreme Court. I think we need to look at every possible option because right now we have a Supreme Court that is not being a check on this president. We see a Supreme Court that should be an independent co equal branch of government. But that's not how they're operating. They're not operating As a check, they are rubber stamping this president's authoritarian an agenda. And we need to do everything we can. Republicans have packed the court. We're seeing what's happening, civil rights eroding right before our very eyes. And we need to make sure that we do something to put a stop to this runaway train and make sure that we have once again a co equal independent branch of government. That's going to be a check on this president.
B
Well, you mentioned that. And I think a lot of Democrats want to see senators right now in office who won't vote for Trump nominees, whether it's the Supreme Court or any court in the nation. Right now. If you were in the United States Senate today and say Justice Alito were to retire, would you vote to confirm a nominee Trump put forth?
C
No. I've made it clear I'm not going to vote for any nominee or appointee of this president. We've already seen not just how unqualified they are, but how just incompetent the people that he has nominated have been. And we know that he's not making decisions that are in the best interest of America, of the American people. And I would not vote to confirm any of his nominees.
B
Now, before I let you go, I just do want to ask the elections in November for your Senate race, what do folks need to know between now and November about your campaign, what you're up to and just generally about the election in Illinois coming up?
C
Well, what they need to know is that first of all, I have a real race. I'm running against a self funded candidate who will be someone who rubber stamps this President Trump's agenda. And I'm going to keep talking about what matters to the people of Illinois. I'm going to be crisscrossing the state, listening to the people and continuing to fight to give the people what they want. Higher wages, access to affordable health care and getting corporate PAC money out of politics. So that message resonated in the primary, but it, it continues to be what I hear from voters all across the state. But there's a real race and I need your Support.
