ICE is in hot water with the federal district court in the District of Minnesota as a chief judge says that he has had enough of ICE violating court orders in Minneapolis and has ordered Acting Director Todd Lyons to appear in federal court this week to face possible contempt proceedings and to explain why the court should not hold him in contempt of court. It comes as the Trump administration has continues to actively seek an off ramp following the murder of Alex Preddy. They have sidelined Greg Bovino. They have suspended Bovino's access to his social media and while now now they are trying to essentially shift the public narrative because behind the scenes, Donald Trump was upset at the, quote, callous nature of the press conferences held by Bovino and Kristi Noem, his Homeland Security secretary. So a federal court in Minnesota said, quote, On January 14, 2026, the court granted petitioners habeas petition and ordered, among other things, that respondents provide petitioners a bond hearing under 8 U.S. code Section 1226A within seven days of the date of this order. Okay? And that petition must petitioner must immediately be released from detention. On January 23, petitioner's counsel notified the court that he had not received a bond hearing and he had remained behind bars. Quote, this is one of dozens of court orders with which respondents have failed to comply in recent weeks.

The practical consequence of respondents failure to comply has almost always been significant hardship to aliens, many of whom have lawfully lived and worked in the United States for years and done absolutely nothing wrong. The detention of an alien is extended or in an alien who should remain in Minnesota to flown to Texas or an alien has been flown to Texas, is released there and told to figure out a way to get home. So let me give you a little backstory here. This is a case in which a court in Minnesota two weeks ago said, ice, you have to give this undocumented migrant that you arrested a bond hearing. You have to give them due process. And while ICE didn't give them due process, then you remember you had a ICE agent detain a two year old girl and a court said, no, no, you have to release that girl immediately. They didn't release her, they flew her to Texas. You have the five year old boy that was detained anyways. Lots of violations of court orders. And right now the court says, you know what, I've had enough. Had enough. This court has been extremely patient with ice. Even though ICE decided to send thousands of agents to Minnesota to detain aliens without making any provision for dealing with the hundreds of habeas petitions and other lawsuits they were sure to deal with. Respondents have continually assured the court that they recognize their obligation to comply with court orders and they have taken steps to ensure that those orders will be honored. Unfortunately, the violations continue. As a result, the court's patience is at an end. The court will order Todd Lyons, the acting director of ice, to appear personally before the court and show cause why he should not be held in contempt of court. The court acknowledges that ordering the head of a federal agency to personally appear is an extraordinary step. But the extent of ICE's violation of court orders is likewise extraordinary. And lesser measures have been tried and failed. So this court's not messing around. Ice. The director of ICE is going to be hauled to Minnesota where he will have to testify and explain, hey, here's why we're violating court orders. If I had to guess, you may have contempt proceedings this weekend. And it comes as the tide is shifting. This is a statement from John Pennsylvania, Senator, centrist Democrat, arguably sometimes a Republican. He says that, quote, president Trump, I make a direct appeal to immediately fire Secretary Noemi. Americans have died. She is betraying DHS's core mission and trashing her border security legacy. What was worse was listening to Kristi Noem talk about him the way she did and not knowing, not even seeing the videos yet and not knowing exactly what had happened. I think that hurt worse than anything. And I can't imagine his parents listening to that or hearing what she had said, said about him. I think that hurt worse than anything.
