We have some major news right now. The United States Supreme Court just handed Democrats a huge, huge victory, allowing California's new congressional maps passed via Prop 50 to remain the maps for California, which is a significant win for Democrats who want to take back the House of Representatives. At the same time, Melania Trump was confronted with her association with Ghislaine Maxwell, and while she didn't really answer it all, while Donald Trump is telling the Ayatollah this afternoon, the Supreme Leader of Iran, that it is time to be worried, as it appears as though talks between the United States and Iran over their nuclear program have all but completely fallen apart. Let's just jump right into it. This afternoon, the United States Supreme Court issued an order in the case of David Tangipa versus California Governor Gavin Newsom. The order is simple, quote, the application for a writ of injunction pending appeal presented to Justice Kagan and by her referred to the court is hereby denied. This is a significant order because it prevents any further action, at least temporarily, between now and the midterm elections on California's new congressional maps. These new congressional maps were passed via Prop 50, via the California people who voted overwhelmingly to pass Prop 50 into law and will ensure that Democrats have the ability to pick up upwards of 5 to 6 to potentially even more seats in the House of Representatives in response to the gerrymandering that had been happening in Republican states across the country, like Texas, Missouri and elsewhere. What's significant about this order is that there were no noted dissents, for example, no Alito, no Clarence Thomas. None of the conservative justices that you would traditionally see dissenting from a decision like this have dissented. For this to have even worked, you would need four justices to agree to take the issue up, and you couldn't even get one justice, let alone four justices at the same time. First lady Melania Trump is being confronted at the White House today by reporters who are asking her about her relationship with none other than Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein's former associate, who is currently serving 20 years in federal prison for sex trafficking. Take a listen to what Melania Trump had to say.
D
Thank you.
C
We are here celebrating the release and the life of those two incredible people. So let's honor that. She didn't want to answer. She didn't want to answer. She was clearly confronted by it and did not want to answer. And, well, it's probably a little uncomfortable for Melania Trump given the fact that her name was in the files. There are even files suggesting that Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump, although those tips have not been fully verified yet. And while clearly here speaking from the White House with freed American Israeli hostages, she doesn't want to talk about Ghislaine Maxwell and her association with it. And speaking about the Middle east, take a listen to what Donald Trump had to say about Iran. Should the Supreme Leader in Iran be worried right now?
E
I would say he should be very worried. Yeah, he should be.
D
As you know, they're negotiating with us.
C
I know they are talked about the negotiations, but those negotiations, according to Axios, have all but completely fallen apart this afternoon. And so now you're in a situation where it looks more and more likely that the United States of America may strike Iran at some point in the near future. Now, this afternoon, when we're talking about Congressional maps, I spoke to one aspiring Democrat trying to run for Congress in Corey Mills district in Florida's 7th congressional district. I encourage you to take a listen to this interview, but before I do, make sure to like, comment, share and subscribe. Here's a quick word from our sponsor and then the interview with Bail Dalton. Hey, folks, before I continue, I want to talk to you about an issue that is near and dear to my heart, especially as we see health care prices rise quickly across America. Millions of seniors right now are on the wrong Medicare plan and, well, that's why I've partnered with CHAPTER for this video, because CHAPTER makes Medicare simple. We can compare all your options in just under 20 minutes. It's free. And if you're already on the right plan, they will tell you and give you peace of mind. It's that easy. At a time where healthcare is under attack, I figured partnering with an organization like Chapter would be helpful here. So for free and unbiased Medicare help, dial 212-200-3531, that is 212-200-3531 or go to askchapter.org backslash Parnas. They're all linked below. Anyways, back to the video. I'm excited today to be joined by Bill Dalton, who's running for Congress in Florida's 7th congressional district. Now, Bill, I want to jump right into it, and I just got to ask you, why do you want to run for Congress?
D
Yeah. Well, I appreciate it. It's great. It's great to be here and of course, talking to a fellow Floridian. Look, I'm public service is in my blood. You know, I was in the Navy and Navy reserve for over 23 years. Still in the Navy Reserve as a helicopter pilot, supporting special operations throughout the world, defending our homeland from threats abroad, deployed to Iraq multiple times, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, and throughout the Pacific. I was actually the commanding officer of the Navy Special Operations Support helicopter squadron, leading 400 of the best sailors in the Navy, in my opinion, doing these things, which was an incredible experience. I also have served on behalf of Floridians already as a member of Senator Nelson's staff, working on foreign policy and of course, our national Defense and Veterans affairs, making sure that our Florida veterans got the benefits that they earned and the care that they needed in their own transitions. And then, and then I helped lead NASA, you know, 16,000 engineers, researchers, scientists and astronauts across our 14 centers. And of course, right here, close to home in central Florida at Kennedy Space Center. And, you know, throughout many of those experiences, I just became fed up with our interactions with the politicians in D.C. that seem to not care about what is most important to the folks here at home, especially here where I grew up in Seminole and Volusia county here in Central Florida. And, you know, currently we're represented by, by Corey Mills, Congressman Mills, who's got a whole boatload of troubles when it comes to his personal life. And he's just not providing the representation that the folks here need. And so that has motivated me to try to give them a better choice.
C
Now, I got to ask you, Corey mills won by 13 points last time around, right? This is not a, in a general year, in a regular year, a quote, unquote, toss up or a lean blue district, I guess. Why can a Democrat flip it this year?
D
Yeah. Well, this area of Central Florida has been represented by both Democrats and Republicans. So I think they've seen what right looks like through, you know, former Representative Stephanie Murphy, as well as some state and local leadership that we've had throughout the years. And, you know, my focus is on everybody in the district, Republicans, Democrats, no party affiliation, our independents as well, because the struggles that people are facing are not partisan. You know, with our rising grocery costs and the cost of living, especially right here in Florida, with our property insurance costs and of course, the rising utilities with no increase in services. And, you know, of course, the, the crisis of Congress's own making here with health care costs about to explode for folks with the expiration of the ACA subsidies. And, you know, in Congressman Mills, we have someone who has actively voted to make life harder for Central Floridians with the cuts to Medicaid and the reduction in resources for our hospitals, especially throughout this district, which, which does service some rural customers who are now having to drive even further to find their care and care at a more expensive rate through emergency rooms. So I think the, the real issues here in Central Florida are ones that are not partisan and, and expand through to everybody here. And they're really looking for somebody who's actually going to get the work done. And of course, that's not what we have with Congressman Mills.
C
Now, you mentioned that Mills has some of his own scandals. If someone's watching this and they say, I've never even heard of his name before, what do they need to know about Corey Mills?
D
Sure. Well, you know, I think that as a populist, you know, we've been disappointed with politicians in D.C. for a long time. But I tell you what, Congressman Mills really takes the Cake. I mean, the bar cannot be set lower. He's got domestic violence issues with a woman who is not his wife. In Washington D.C. a Florida judge has actually issued a restraining order calling him a danger to a fellow Floridian down here. And he's got multiple accounts that are being investigated by the Congressional Ethics Committee benefiting from his seat as a sitting congressman. He's a foreign arms dealer who refuses to disclose what countries he's selling weapons to. And these countries could mean us harm. And you know, as a veteran and somebody who's worn the uniform, we need some answers on that, you know, real fast. And he's refusing, refuses to answer those and you know, other allegations about accepting gifts and, and finance, campaign finance problems. So you line all these things up. If any one of these things has a kernel of truth to it, which we've already seen, you know, he's unfit to be in Congress.
C
Now you mentioned that you served in the armed forces. A something that's really bothered me personally and a lot of folks watching this is just the politicians politicization of the military over the past year especially. How do you feel about service members being used potentially against American citizens, but also sent into places abroad where hey, maybe it's not fully a legal order that they're being asked to, to do.
D
Yeah. You know, when it comes especially to my own service and the people that I served with and got an opportunity to lead, you know, as a commanding officer, my job is to take care of these sailors and make sure that people who, you know, signed up to put their life on the line are doing things that are for the betterment of our country and defending our country from real threats abroad. You know, which I've already described. You know, we've, we've done so throughout much of the world. And so again I think where we, we need to hear real long term plans and goals for what these things are. There's many questions out there who haven't, haven't been answered. And the people who are owed an answer are those service people that are putting their lives on the line and certainly us taxpayers that are going to be paying for these operations.
C
Now before I let you go, I got to ask you say you're elected tomorrow, tomorrow's your first day in Congress. What do you do? What's your first issue that you're tackling?
D
Yeah, I mean I think the very first issue has to be, you know, the extension of the ACA subsidies and taking care of this again, crisis of Congress's own making with these incredibly rising health care costs. I mean, right here in central Florida, we're going to have upwards of 100,000 people that are going to see their health care premiums go up. We're going to have upwards of 40,000 people who may not have health care at all after these ACA subsidies expire. So I definitely think that we need to be countering these cost of living increases. And the first step in each of those, you know, grocery prices, property insurance, you know, our utilities. The first step has to be to remove this fear that people have of how they're going to put food on the table and take care of their families if they get sick or hurt.
C
Well, Bail Dalton, good luck. Thanks so much for joining me.
