I'm addicted to start your free trial@shopify.com Good morning everyone. Lots of news to cover concerning the weaponization fund, the 1.7 1.8 billion dollar slush fund that the Department of Justice is establishing as this morning. Capitol Police officers are suing, trying to block the fund and they actually have a pretty good argument. We're going to go through the lawsuit as to why the Trump administration may actually have trouble getting this fund across the finish line. It comes after a night of elections across the country, from Pennsylvania to Kentucky to Georgia and Idaho. Obviously, the big election of the night was the Thomas Massie election. Thomas Massie lost. And while today there is growing concern on Capitol Hill that Massie's loss actually is going to hurt the Republican Party in the long term, including with Massie possibly playing spoiler in 2028. Lots of news to cover like Comment, Share subscribe subscribe to my substack link below or upgrade your subscription to support my work this morning. The Murdoch family announced its intention of buying another company, Vox media, for about $300 million. The acquisition includes New York Magazine, Vox.com, the podcast network and more. And while consolidation under these right wing media entities are growing and so independent media is truly never been so important. This morning a complaint has been filed by two Capitol police officers, including Harry Dunn, who is currently running for Congress in Maryland against the President of the United States's Weaponization Fund. It argues that in the most brazen act of presidential corruption this century, President Donald J. Trump created a 1.776 billion dollar taxpayer funded slush fund to finance the insurrectionists and paramilitary groups that commit violence in his name. The funds styled the anti Weaponization Fund is illegal. No statute authorizes creation. A settlement on which is premise is a corrupt sham and it ends to design violates the Constitution and federal law. The fund endangers the lives and safety of plaintiffs Harry Dunn and Daniel Hodges, officers who defended the Capitol on January 6, 2021 in two ways. First, by its very existence, the fund encourages those who enacted violence in the President's name to continue to do so. Dunn and Hodges already face credible threats and death and violence on a regular basis. The fund substantially increases the danger. Second, if allowed to begin making payments, the fund will directly finance the violent operation of rioters, paramilitaries and their supporters who threaten plaintiffs lives that day and continue to do so. To prevent the public financing of paramilitary organizations in the United States and to protect plaintiffs from further violence, the fund must be dissolved. Dunn and Hodges bring this case to obtain that relief. In January of this year, Trump and his sons sued the irs. That was the initial lawsuit the Trump versus irs. The lawsuit was frivolous because Trump as a sitting president was both the plaintiff and in direct control of the defendants. Trump versus IRS lacked adversity. And remember Judge Kathleen Williams, the Obama appointed federal judge in South Florida who was hearing the case had a lot of questions about adversity before this was essentially kicked out by Trump, settled by Trump with the help of his two cabinet secretaries. Trump has now done just that. On May 18, defendant Todd Blanch, the Acting Attorney General of the United States announced that the DOJ on the Treasury Department and IRS behalf had agreed to settle the case for $1.776 billion. The money blanche announced we paid into an anti weaponization fund. They go on to say. Although Trump and his cronies have been secretive about the fund's ends, reporting leaves no doubt that that it will be used among other purposes to pay the nearly 1600 people charged with attacking the Capitol on January 6, 2021. As a result, plaintiffs are suing, and they're saying, you know what? We're not going to back down. We hold the line to defend democracy and the rule of law, and we're going to do it again. And they argue that the fund violates the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution. It also violates the Administrative Procedures Act. There are two main arguments here that Dunn and Hodges are putting forth, essentially, number one, that the way the fund was established was improper and unconstitutional. And the way the fund is being funded, the money that's being funneled to it is also unconstitutional the way it's happening. And so as a result, they're asking for it to be thrown out. We'll see. It may very well work. It may very well work. But this fund doesn't have a ton of support on Capitol Hill because even the Senate Majority Leader, John Thune, says, I don't really like it.
E
This president at this point. Yeah, not big, and I'm not sure exactly how they can use it, but my understanding is that was just announced and. But, yeah, I don't see a purpose for that.
D
I don't see a purpose for it. I don't see a purpose for that. It comes. There's growing concern on Capitol Hill this morning following last night's election results in Kentucky. So, as you know, Thomas Massie lost to his Republican opponent in a Republican primary. They're both Republicans. His opponent was backed by Donald Trump. And special interest groups, including AIPAC, the Israel Lobby, Crypto Lobby, and the AI Lobby, spent more than $30 million trying to defeat Massey. It turned out to be the most expensive House race. House primary race in American history. More money was spent to defeat Massie than in any other House primary we've ever seen. So talk about big money in politics. Well, now Trump got his wish. Massie won't be in Congress. Okay, fine, Trump gets a win. But in the long term, Republicans are saying Trump's decisions over the past 72 hours are actually harming him. Early. Over the past week, it began with Bill Cassidy. Remember that Louisiana senator who voted to convict Donald Trump of insurrection charges? Remember that? Yeah. He was ousted after Trump backed Julia Letlo in Louisiana. And then yesterday, we saw the impact of it. Bill Cassidy came out and said, you know what? I'm going to vote to end Donald Trump's war in Iran. And the Senate moved a resolution forward to stop the war in Iran. Okay. Then yesterday, Trump came out and said, I'm going to endorse Ken Paxton, the attorney general of Texas, over John Cornyn, the sitting United States senator in Texas. Well, what's happening after that? What's happening is Republicans are really concerned that there goes the Texas Senatecy to James Talarico. And now you have Thomas Massie situation. And what's going to end up happening here is you're going to have an emboldened Thomas Massie over the next seven months while he's still in office, going after Trump in any way he can. But that's not all. There's also growing concern that Massie may run as an independent in 2028. If that were to happen, if that were to happen, that would siphon off 3%, 4%, 5% of the vote from the Republican candidate, potentially J.D. vance or Marco Rubio or whoever. Likely more. If it's someone more centrist like Marco Rubio. Well, what happens then? That what happens then is you have a Democratic president elected. So it's pretty significant. And right now we actually also getting images as I'm on this broadcast of the White House, what it looks like today, the White House, this is on the left, you can see, is the main White House building. And then what appears to be they were setting up, I think this image was from yesterday, but it was just released today for the congressional picnic on the South Lawn. As you can see, lots of chairs, tents. And then on the right you see the massive demolition zone that's being happening right now for Donald Trump's ballroom, but also for the massive military industrial complex that's actually being built underneath the ballroom and in real time. So it's very, I mean, listen, it's very serious what's happening at the White House right now. There isn't much that can be done to change it for better or for worse at the moment. But I will have more updates for you soon. Host: Aaron Parnas
Date: May 20, 2026
Aaron Parnas delivers a rapid, in-depth breakdown of a huge development regarding the so-called “Weaponization Fund”—a $1.7 billion slush fund pushed by the Trump administration and now the direct target of a lawsuit by Capitol Police officers. Parnas unpacks the legal, political, and practical risks, connects the story to ongoing GOP infighting, and highlights why independent media is essential in today’s climate.
