Good morning everyone. Get ready for a chaotic update, so buckle in. The White House is reportedly in a panic mode ahead of the midterm elections, knowing that they are likely to lose the midterm elections and are holding secret private meetings with staffers in the executive branch to prepare them for what they expect to be a quote, barrage of investigations and subpoenas from Congress. At the same time the hantavirus has spread. An eighth individual has now been suspected to be infected with the hantavirus, this time a man in Switzerland who previously was on the ship, the cruise ship that is still in the Atlantic Ocean where the virus first began to spread. Same time Trump's new Surgeon General nominee has been scrubbing old tweets, one of which questioned the President's health, specifically his MRI results. And finally, Democrats secured a massive victory in Michigan over performing Kamala Harris and ensuring that Democrats retain the Senate majority. I'm heading soon potentially to Capitol Hill to cover the Howard Lutnick Epstein questioning, so stay tuned on that and much more. So subscribe if you can. I want to begin by talking about the White House bracing for what appears to be an inevitable Democratic takeover of Congress after the midterm elections. The White House is already preparing for a barrage of investigations and hearings by holding secretive briefings with executive branch staff on how to handle aggressive congressional oversight. According to reporting from the New Republic, attorneys at the White House Counsel's office are conducting private briefings now to ready staff for life under Democratic led scrutiny. These are 30 minute briefings featuring a PowerPoint presentation detailing how congressional oversight works and best practices for navigating it. The sessions also include how to respond to congressional inquiries in a timely manner. However, multiple sources who spoke with the Post indicated that recent meetings with the Counsel's office were acutely focused on the midterm elections and the anticipated fallout, suggesting the White House expects significant losses. Right now, 62% of the American public disapproves of the President's job as president. And so they're expecting for massive losses at the polls this November. Let me talk through what this means because for the record, before I was a journalist, I was an attorney and I handled congressional investigations as part of my work. They are going to subpoena members of the executive staff, folks around Donald Trump. Donald Trump, based on Supreme Court precedent, has immunity for a lot of what he does. But people who don't have immunity include everyone else, everyone from the Vice President to the press secretary to the Chief of staff, and even lower level staff members, including but not limited to the President's own kids, Jared Kushner, his son in law, Ivanka, Jared, Don Jr. Eric, Tiffany, anyone and everyone could be subject to a congressional investigation, a congressional inquiry. They cannot just bypass a lawful congressional inquiry, especially if Democrats retain the majority. There will be court proceedings to hold individuals in contempt of Congress, which could eventually lead to jail time and fines. This morning, the World Health Organization has announced that Swiss authorities have confirmed a case of hantavirus identified in a passenger from the MV Hondius cruise ship. He had responded to an email from the ship's operator informing the passengers of a health event, presenting himself to a hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, and is currently receiving care in line with the international health regulations. The WHO is actively working with relevant countries to support international contact tracing to ensure those potentially exposed are monitored and that any further disease spread is limited. WHO also confirmed that the type of virus in the outbreak has been confirmed as Andy's hantavirus, which would lead to human to human transmission. There are now eight cases, three of which have been confirmed via laboratory testing. Let me just talk through briefly what this means. There was this cruise ship that left Argentina. The cruise ship had the hantavirus on it. For whatever reason, someone was infected. It spread amongst passengers of the cruise ship. The cruise ship remains in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the Canary Islands this morning. But because this is a long term cruise, individuals were able to get off and on. Not everyone stayed for the duration of the cruise. This man from Switzerland seemingly got off at some point. They're not saying when, and likely flew to Switzerland or took some form of transportation to Switzerland. Now contact tracing is occurring to determine who, who, if anyone, else, could have been exposed. It comes this morning as Donald Trump's new Surgeon General nominee is under fire. CNN has now found deleted social media posts from Dr. Nicole Safier, Trump's latest nominee for Surgeon General, revealing both criticism of Trump and Health Secretary RFK Jr over vaccine policy, measles policy and even Trump's own health. Here is a now deleted post from October in which she wrote, quote, lots of people questioning POTUS mri. I have questions too. It's hard to take some of these people seriously as they fail to have questions on Covid natural immunity. She went on to talk about Biden, but she says she has questions about the president's mri. In addition, she criticized a Trump truth social post telling pregnant women not to take Tylenol. Quote, this isn't the first or second time he has said this. Obviously something was said to POTUS behind closed doors and and the public deserves transparency on the data presented to substantiate these statements, she wrote. My son has a high fever and I'm angry that I'm now questioning giving him Tylenol. Do data exist showing harm to kids that haven't been shared with the public? Or is the Tylenol controversy purely hyperbolic and conjecture? Needless to say, I'm mad. In addition, she wrote just two months before being selected as Surgeon General, quote, she suggested that the administration was hiding that measles was spreading widely. Quote, seems like they may not want to admit the US Measles elimination status is gone until after midterm election, she wrote on Twitter. These tweets have now been deleted and her Twitter account has been made private. As I mentioned at the beginning, Democrats secured a major victory last night in Michigan. Senator elect Chedrick Greene defeated his Republican opponent in the special election in SD35. Green won the district by 19.5 points points in perspective, Kamala Harris won this district by 0.9 points last year. This is a 19 point or so 18 and a half point over performance. But it's larger than even Barack Obama's margin in 2008. And when asked for voters how they're feeling about the president and the ballroom, take a listen to what one had to say from Florida.
C
He should be focusing on lowering these prices that he jacked up because it wasn't this high before he became president. Gas was was three something barely three dollars. Now it's four. You know it is. He don't need to be talking about borrowings, man. You need to be trying to fix the economy.
B
Be focused on fixing the economy. Here's what Pete Buttigieg had to say about that.
D
If it works, this I'm betting you have. But the default defense from these guys is in the Trump administration. Others 18 months into their administration seems to be to blame Joe Biden and the Biden administration from inflation numbers to gas prices to an airline going under. They just want to blame the administration you and I both worked in, I think too, because they don't want to acknowledge their policies are doing the damage. To me, it's pretty pathetic. But what, what do you think it tells us about them?
E
Well, it's an extraordinary show of weakness to see the Trump administration when you have something like Spirit Airlines, for example, going out of business because because of jet fuel prices going through the roof because of the war in Iran. And they've made very clear that that's why that airline went under to have the Trump administration desperately trying to say, oh no, this is actually because three years ago the Biden administration got involved in an antitrust case involving the airline when everybody can see that what is happening is a direct consequence of the unnecessary, unpopular and unsuccessful policies of the Trump administration. Look, when you are this deep into your second year, if your reflex is to still be trying to blame the previous administration, it really shows that you are out of ideas, out of solutions, and unwilling to take ownership of your own choices. Like this Iran war that has cost so much already in this country.
