It's been a very, very hectic afternoon. This update there's going to be a lot and maybe longer than usual just because there is so much news to cover this afternoon. Tomorrow or this weekend, I'm going to try to get into the hospital itself, into the cafeteria again and talk to workers. So far, everyone has been relatively mum. But the big news of the afternoon really is that the Trump administration has admitted in a court filing that not only violated the law, but it violated the Constitution by essentially canceling grants to states simply because they didn't vote for him. And I think that's a stunning development that a lot of people need to know about. Meanwhile, we have a lot of industry related news related to the journalism industry as one journalist at CBS is coming out and calling out Bari Weiss directly to the point where Barry Weiss tried to force unverified stories onto reporters. In addition, the Paramount deal that was going to take over CNN advocacy worked and it's been blocked for at least a year. They're going to hold off on it until next year. A member of Congress wants to investigate Barron Trump due to his relationship with the Tate brothers. Trump wants to tariff Mexico and Canada. It says Department of Energy accepts that the inclusion of grants in the October notice tranche was, quote, based solely on the political identity of the grants recipient states. That is whether the recipient's location and or place of performance was in a blue state or in a non blue state. DOE will not contend that it looked beyond the prime grantees to consider the political identity or geographic distribution of downstream beneficiaries of the grant funds. Okay, that's a lot of legalese, right? Well, let me tell you why this is huge. This is a major constitutional violation and it was just confirmed under oath in court by the Trump administration. The Trump administration admitted in court filings this month in this filing right here that it canceled 284 Biden era clean energy grants worth billions of dollars based solely on whether the recipient state voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 and had two Democratic senators. A lawyer for the Energy Department conceded that none of the terminations were based on any programmatic statutory, cost reduction or performance related factor, directly contradicting the testimony of Energy Secretary Chris Wright last month who in front of Congress claimed that no decisions were made on politics. Real projects and real money were cut in the fall. The politically targeted cancellations halted funding for hundreds of energy projects across the country, including electrical grid upgrades in California and Oregon, methane leak reduction efforts in Colorado, and clean hydrogen fuel hubs in California and the Pacific Northwest. The cuts came last October alongside a broader White House push to pressure Democratic lawmakers doing a government shunt. Government funding standoff With Donald Trump publicly threatening to slash what he called Democrat agencies, some grant recipients have since tried to sue to recover their funds. And this is not the first time the Energy Department has admitted politics played a role. Though it is the latest admission is far more broader and more detailed. Democrats are saying that this exposes a dangerous pattern with more to come. Now meanwhile, as I mentioned, there is major news in the journalism industry and I want to talk about it right now because what we're going to what I'm about to show you could Shake News as we know it. Former 60 Minutes correspondent Cecilia Vega accused CBS News leadership today of pressuring journalists to reshape reporting in ways that favor the Trump administration. She spoke at the national association of Hispanic Journalists conference, where she said executives objected to her story on SNAP benefit cuts in West Virginia because it did not include Vice President J.D. vance, who referenced his memoir, even though Vance, from Ohio, not West Virginia, said that the incident reflected a broader effort by CBS's new leadership, by Barry Weiss, to influence editorial decisions. She also alleged that CBS executives pushed reporters to include material that could not be substantiated or reflected administration messaging. She said she was asked to insert footage of protests attacking undercover ICE officers in Minnesota, but her team determined no such video existed. Couldn't get them a task or to answer any questions. Now, Mitch McConnell has been here for 40 days. A lot of people have asked, just get inside the hospital. It's not that easy. You can't just get inside a hospital and see a patient hit the laws.

going to let anyone even like me get inside. But Mitch McConnell is nowhere to be found. Obviously, we haven't heard from him or his team in a matter of weeks now. And we haven't seen him publicly in over 30. Now here's I wanted to take a minute to talk about what happens next in Kentucky regarding Mitch McConnell, because in a matter of days, I believe it's either August 3rd or August 4th. It's a critical deadline. If Mitch McConnell is incapacitated and it's publicly known before August 3rd or August 4th, the governor is going to have to call what is called a special election. If he is not, if that timeline passes next week or in two weeks, I guess then it gets a little more complicated and Governor Beshear may try to make an appointment. So we're here. So that's the Latest on the McConnell news. Now today, Donald Trump did say that he was going to start tariffing individuals. First on Truth Social. He announced tariffs potentially on the European Union, saying that he's going to potentially tariff the EU because they're going after American companies. And then in the Oval Office decided to say he's going to tariff Mexico and Canada coming in, I guess from Mexico.

think what we're going to do is we're going to put a major tariff on taxi on Mexico because of the lettuce and we're going to put a big tariff on Canada because of the smoke. All right, we'll get a C. Which would you have that, the lettuce or the smoke? I think I'll take the smoke.

Well, it's closed up a lot of countries. I've told Canada they have to do something about, you know, we've never had this problem. All of a sudden we have this problem with Canada. So we'll have to talk to them about that.
