Pat McAfee
Hello beautiful people and welcome to our humble abode, the ThunderDome on this NFL Week 10 kickoff Thursday, November 7, 2024. This program starts now. Football. It's awesome and obviously there's been some action over the past couple of evenings that have been electrifying and we're all appreciative of them playing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. But tonight, Thursday night is the launch of a new NFL weekend. A new slate of teams, new storylines being developed, which teams are potentially going to to the super bowl and which teams are going to the crapper. Trade deadline day has already passed. So this team is what your team is going to be until the super bowl if you have the opportunity to make it, which both the teams playing tonight do. An AFC north matchup will be on prime Thursday Night Football. Kirk Herbstre, Al Bichels, Kaylee Harong on the call with Carissa Thompson, Tony Gonzalez, Ryan Fitz, Magic, Andrew Whitworth and Big Sherm at the end of the table, it should be a fantastic evening as we are guaranteed a great game. Joe Burrow, this man right here now, he's been playing good all season long, but their records obviously do not showcase that because the defense hasn't been what everybody has expected them to be. Slow starts are very normal for the Cincinnati Bengals. This is just another ho hum start for them. They inevitably usually are able to get hot and get climbing and get rolling. Jasicki's been dancing. Ja'Marr Chase is obviously still a big time weapon. They just traded for a running back in Khalil Herbert. Will he get the rock? We shall see. Taking on a man who has been a multiple time MVP in the past, but he's playing his best ball. Lamar Jackson and that offense for the Baltimore Ravens are humming. They had 20 different personnel sets this past weekend and they added another weapon before the trade deadline and Deontay Johnson. They're fun to watch, they're powerful to watch, they're quick and on the defensive side. Feels like they're figuring it out. Yep, bunch of new coaches over there because the last year's defensive regime ended up coaching the Seattle Seahawks this year. How's that going? Hmm, I don't know. But the Baltimore Ravens are a team to beat in the NFL. Them and the Lions are who everybody's thinking could go to the super bowl. But can Joey fucking Burrow go in to the bank and steal one? They're six point dogs. Five and a half point dogs depending upon where Uganda, ESPN bet. I believe it's a five and a half over under at 52 and a half. Tonight's game should be electrifying and we're pumped up about that. Now the talks to tables here at Boston. Connor and that Ty Schmidt, con man, feels like there's going to be some scoring tonight. How do you feel about that? Especially as a guy who pieces together touchdown scoring parlays that are normally plus 20,000, plus 30,000, where you can turn a little bit of money into a big amount of money that feels like a big night for you and other gamblers like you.
Connor
Yeah, I feel fantastic about it. There are some key guys out. T. Higgins, I believe Isaiah likely both not playing. Those are two of my favorite go tos. Hey, especially when you're not the number one option. Those are the guys you want to lean towards. But this is why we play. This is why we watch. You watch because you want to see a Lamar Jackson on primetime. You want to see a Joe Burrow on primetime. We're not watching, you know, Jake Hayner, who is now could be the second coming of Lamar in a few years here, but we're not watching a backup Saints quarterback. We're not watching, you know, maybe a guy that's trying to figure it out. We're watching two studs. We're watching kind of the top two, maybe two of the top five. We'll say just because there are a lot of other prime time players. I want to be safe here. Don't want to overstep your bounds, but this is exactly the type of game that you look forward to. Division matchup, division rival. We've gone through some of the stats too. It's shaping out to be a great one. Especially when you just think about the competitiveness of the game. I do worry about what you said there. The Ravens defense kind of figuring it out here and you know, the Bengals being a little short handed, but I can't wait for this one. This is exactly the type of game we were looking for in what prime paid for. Okay, let's not, let's not sell them short. They paid a pretty penny billion. Yeah. Yeah. For some of these prime time football games. And this is one of those ones that you sign up for.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think everybody's going to be tuning in. And once again, Thursday night football, standard operating procedure here since it's gone to prime. Prime. When they go to commercial, you can't do shit.
Connor
No, you can't.
Pat McAfee
You just gotta sit there and deal with it, eat it. Because what are you gonna do? You're gonna load another app to go watch? You're not. Because by the time that thing loads, you get out of there. Reload Prime. We're already back on the game. You didn't miss anything. So Prime's got us probably tonight for a good four hours straight. That is probably what's gonna happen. New commercial and we're excited about. Hopefully.
Connor
Yeah, hopefully. Hopefully there aren't.
Pat McAfee
I think.
AJ Hawk
I think we will have some new.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you're right. All those ones. Yeah. For a bit. In some states, I think a lot stronger than maybe in other states. Happy we don't have to hear about the worst things people have done in their entire life.
Connor
Thank God.
Pat McAfee
Over and over. At least not a commercial some people love. You're right. On the Internet you can still find that particular information. That's one half of The Hammer Cowboys AP Tone A man who's coached 36 years in football, 18 in college, 18. The NFL ranks once a great contributor to the Baltimore Ravens program, ladies and gentlemen, Chuck Pagan. Yeah, look at you, Chuck. Wow, look at that photo of you. The tan's looking nice. The smile is big. You're on the defensive side of that Baltimore Ravens defense that was obviously a terror to everybody in the entire NFL, not just the AFC North. Big one tonight. This is a good game. Bengals. Ravens is one that you get excited for now. Bengals record is what it is because of what they do at the beginning of seasons and they're going to have to figure that out going forward. But this is going to be a great game. Do you see it the same exact way or no?
Chuck Pagano
Absolutely. Just go Back to Week 5, 41, 38 overtime win for the Ravens. Two of the best quarterbacks. Con man, you might as well just said it because when you look at qbr Lamar's won, Joe B's too. T. Higgins is huge though. This team is one and three without him. Three and one with him. If you guys didn't know that, I.
Pat McAfee
Did not know that.
Chuck Pagano
So this should be a banger. I mean, you got Jamar Chase on one side and Zay Flowers. This guy is.
Pat McAfee
How about Deontay Johnson? You think they're going to get him worked in a little bit more? Obviously more time, more opportunity, more learning of the playbook, more of them learning about him. You think he is a viable option tonight, Anderson?
Chuck Pagano
I think all the great organizations, they don't just go get these guys to sit on the bench. Like KC Goes and gets a D hop and figures it out. And he's got two touchdowns and eight receptions already and he's been there for a cup of coffee.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
I mean, this is a great organization. This is a great coaching staff. You got a weapon like him. Forget all the other crap. They've got the culture, they've got the locker room, they've got the staff to get this dude. Right. They're going to find a way to get involved now. They got a ton of weapons. Isaiah likely being out. They do have Kolar, I believe, as a backup tight end. Right. But if likely is out and you.
Pat McAfee
Got this little jitterbug run around, well, then you got. Obviously Zay is no.
Chuck Pagano
Zay Aguilar.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
And then the King, he's.
Pat McAfee
We got a graphic about King Henry and what he's doing. This. It's, it's absurd. It's. The number one in first is just down the side of the column for all these rushing rushes. Rushing yards, rush touchdowns, longest rush, rush first downs, scrimmage, yards, scrimmage. Remember at the beginning of the season, Coach Harbaugh and I think he was learning, Everybody was learning. He was like, it's not, we're not going to live and die by giving the ball Derrick Henry 25, 30 times a game. Okay. And then as the season rolls on, it's like, maybe, maybe we try to figure out how to get this guy.
Chuck Pagano
This is why you don't say things.
Pat McAfee
Well, Coach Harper obviously is a. He's a weapon.
Chuck Pagano
No, he is.
Pat McAfee
I think that's how he was projecting, like, because, I mean, running backs, Derrick Henry, the amount of shots he's taking because of how big he is. Like, everybody talks about how powerful he is and how hard he is to tackle. It's like, well, there's a reason because he's having those contacts that, those collisions too. So it's like, how long can the body hold up? How long can the joints hold up with how big he is? I think there was probably a lot of those questions potentially over in Baltimore and across the entire NFL. And I think King Henry said, excuse me, have you ever heard my diet, my workout plan? This body is a. Okay, feed me. And they have been. And it's helped out everything. It's helped out Lamar, a couple of back to back perfect passer rating games. It's helped out the wide receivers, it's helped out the offensive line. It's helped out Patrick Ricard. The fullback is 280 pounds. I mean, bringing in King Henry this offseason was the move across the entire NFL.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, across, but not for everybody. He would only work at certain places.
Pat McAfee
Well, you think, you think, you think Derek Henry is Going to rush like that for our team. Our team is vastly different than that multiple stinking. Yeah, I don't know if you. I don't know if you watch the same team I've been watching here, Dallas Cowboy. Anyways, that was a big conversation. But as soon as he goes to Baltimore, I, as a person who got a chance to watch this dude in person and see, you know, the spectacle, Holy shit. This is a defensive end here playing running back, you know, whenever you see it. So I am always going to have a belief in King Henry. I am always going to believe. So when he signs the Baltimore, my immediate thought, literal immediate thought is like, that shouldn't be allowed. That. That feels like too good of a match. That feels like too perfect of a situation for a football player matching a football culture. And it is. It certainly turned out that way. And I think they love them over there. And I think tonight we're going to get some. Oh, yeah. Some of this. Oh, yeah, we're going to get some of this. We're going to get some of this. We're going to get some of this. We're going to get some of this. Then we're going to get Joe Burrow doing cham. All of it. And then Justin Tucker is going to be back to kicking money. Mac money. Max will be doing the same thing. It's a perfect night for football. Come on. Before we gamble and make any decisions, Tone, are there any trends we need to look at whenever it comes to the sportsbook world for this particular game? Let's start.
Ty Schmidt
Since we were talking about the total and the over, 52 and a half here on the season. This is my Noche's night notebook.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Ty Schmidt
It's a good notebook. Just got to pull it out, make sure it's not the.
Pat McAfee
No, it's not. It is ufc. No, no means you're not supposed to translate it as the title. You know, you did. You're. You got ahead of yourself.
Ty Schmidt
Listen, if you guys had what you.
Gumpy
Call what you want, but I would.
Ty Schmidt
Call it my no Chase Night notebook.
Pat McAfee
Watch right down in there. Why five is afraid of six?
Ty Schmidt
Seven, eight, nine, brother.
Pat McAfee
Hey, man. All right, go ahead.
Ty Schmidt
Baltimore is eight and one to the over this season. They have been a great over team this season since he's six and three to the over. So both teams have been a good over team this year. The last five times these teams have played five straight overs for this.
Pat McAfee
For these two teams, 52 and a half is the over under currently at ESPN.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
So.
Ty Schmidt
And then when we're looking at the sides. Lamar is five, fourteen and one against the spread as a favorite of six or more points the last four years. So this one's hovering at five and a half, six at most sports books. ESPN's only with a five and a half right now. Burrow is sixteen and three ATS as a dog of three or more points. So those ones kind of lean toward the. Toward the Bengals there this season since he is 4.0ats as the away team. They've been really good on the road, not so much at home. Oh, this one, though. Baltimore is covered in one and five straight against the. Against the. Against the Bengals. And Lamar is 5 and 1 straight up and 4 and 2 ATS versus Joe Burrow.
Pat McAfee
So.
Ty Schmidt
So you can pick and choose which one.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, a lot of stats kind of contradicting each other there. That is kind of the name of the game. You can find a stat to make any argument that one there feels like Lamar Jackson plays well against the Bengals. We play well against these particular Bengals. We'll see later this evening. And you know, it's not often you have the opportunity to share a stage with a guy who's been coaching football for 36 years.
Connor
No.
Pat McAfee
You know, 18 years college, 18 years in the NFL. I see you with the Colorado Buffaloes. Hoodie on. Boulder native. That's where he was born.
Connor
Looks great.
Pat McAfee
Obviously jacked up about the Colorado Buffaloes. Are they going to do it? Brother? Is that the feeling over there? Okay. You look sweet.
Chuck Pagano
Is it the feeling?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you look sweet. You look sweet.
Chuck Pagano
Are you shitting me?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, those are the prime glasses. You look awesome. You look great.
Chuck Pagano
Hey, growing up In Boulder, Colorado, Pat, you know that boys know that, right? Early 70s. I mean, we wear a wagon.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Big eight. I mean, it was Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma. I mean, one, two, three in the country. I'm not just talking good programs. But then we had a Lowell and Coach Mack, coach Bill McCartney comes in, we win a national championship. I think we. In 90, 91. Of course, with Cordell, we split it with so good. Yeah, exactly. Michael Westbrook. I mean, some dogs, right? Vietnam slash. I mean, a ton of players. And then nothing for a long, long time.
AJ Hawk
Poop.
Pat McAfee
And then what?
Chuck Pagano
And now, like too much chagrin. Everybody was like, okay, maybe not. Blah, blah, blah, go four and whatever. You know, in Prime's first year.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
And now look what they're doing. The way Shadour can sling it.
Pat McAfee
Yes, he can.
Chuck Pagano
He can sling it. Travis all over the place. Watching Travis Hunter on the pro. On Game day with you guys the other day. And like he's for real, right?
Pat McAfee
He was cool. I thought he was really cool. Handling himself with incredible class.
Chuck Pagano
So I guess he don't go out, he don't drink, he don't smoke.
Pat McAfee
Streams every once in a while.
Chuck Pagano
Just walking, study.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Does the. You know, but playing both ways and doing what he's doing on the football field, that's incredible. And the biggest thing is like that offense is going to go. But the defense ranked 130th last year, total defense. Bringing a new DC. I don't know the guy's name. I apologize for that. I should know that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
They got SAP over there now. Damian Lewis 2X. You know, former Hurricanes shout out coaching it up on the defensive line over there. But they're like ranked 60th now 64. So they've improved immensely on that side of the ball. So things are buzzing in the rocky, in the flatirons, in the foothills. Remember I grew up. Remember I grew up on a foothill.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
So the foothills are those kind of smaller ones.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Leading up to those flatirons.
Pat McAfee
You're doing this with those sunglasses. Yeah. You look like macho man. Yeah. Whenever you're talking about the macho hat. But yeah, I am. I'm incredibly impressed by what's going on over there. We got a chance to be in Boulder. Beautiful place. That was not what we were bragging about. Having a guy who's coached football for 36 years, 18 in college, obviously keeping up with the college game. Yeah. Loves Jente, this guy. Oh yeah. Cuz now he lives in Boise. Ain't it crazy? From Boulder, Colorado. Lives in Boise because he coached there. Jan. I mean it's amazing the amount of ties, but that's what happens when you're around football for 36 years. 18 in college, 18 in the NFL. Ladies and gentlemen. It's only right that we make him answer some burning questions. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for Coach Pagano's hot seat. Yeah. All right. We're gonna fire some questions at you that you will have a different perspective on than any of us. So we're very grateful for you. Let's start down in the bayou. The New Orleans Saints, obviously they fired Dennis Allen after losing to the Panthers. Can't lose to the Panthers. Get your ass out of here if you're gonna lose. The Carolina Panthers, have you heard what they've been saying about the Carolina Panthers? Carolina Panthers might not even make it in a 12 team playoff. Colorado Buffaloes might. Colorado Buffaloes might, but if Carolina was playing in college, they might not even make it into the damn playoff. That's how bad the Carolina Panthers are. Then Saints say, you know what, we're going to go in there, we're going to lose to them. Head coach gets fired. Schefter says maybe some more moves are going to be made down there. Maybe it's going to look completely different. They bring in interim coach Riz. This guy is a dog friend of the program, special teams coordinator and Derek Carr actually spoke about what practice is like with Riz as opposed to Coach Allen. That's the most plays we've run in a practice in my career, like in a long time. And so we got a lot of good reps at different speeds, of course, but a lot of good reps, a.
Jelly Roll
Lot of different looks, and hopefully that.
Pat McAfee
Translates to you get more time on task on something. We get better at it. And so Lord knows we need to be better at what we're doing right now. Riz made laid out some of the things that, you know, I'll let him talk about some of the things that.
Ernest
He thinks we need to do better and.
Chuck Pagano
But he also gave us a plan.
Pat McAfee
And we executed that plan today. Okay, so Coach Allen gets fired, second one of the season. Then Coach Riz comes in and actually does some change. You, Coach Pagano, how do you feel about the situation out in New Orleans and what's your big takeaway?
Chuck Pagano
Well, I mean, the proof will be in the pudding. We'll see, right? They got to get back on the field. It's unfortunate because I think we all respect Dennis Allen and thinks he thinks he's a really good football coach, a good defensive coordinator. This was his second shot. Start out, you know, two and O in the season, seven straight. Obviously the dagger, the knife. The final deal straw was losing, like you said to the Panthers. But in comes Rizzy. We saw this last year, right? Chris Taber in Carolina Baccia a couple years ago in Las Vegas. Mark Davis might still be thinking, hey, I might have maybe should have stuck maybe with Richie B. Another good. I think we got Rizzy. I mean, you love to hear that from Derek Carr, but, you know, the final straw is going to be like, it's got to be okay regardless whether you bring in what they start an activation period.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they started warm ups. Here's Coach Rizzi talking about a period that they've kind of instituted since he started. But, you know, you shouldn't just go out there and just start lifting weights or just. Or Just go pick up a basketball and just start playing basketball. Tear your Achilles or that's how you get hurt, Right? Jesus. So the activation sports science thing, we, we take those guys through an activation period so that when practice starts, they're actually already, you know, sweating and they're already, you know, have already gone through activate. It's an activation is a fancy name for a warm up. That's what it sounded like. Now it's activation, you know, so. But they go through an activation period and let the sports science guys and the strength staff kind of decide what's the best way to get those guys activated. But, you know, it used to be something that was kind of voluntary. And then we did our stretch period. We just made it. We made it a mandatory thing here just to try to change it up a little. First love. Coach Rizzi being very transparent and explaining the entirety of it. He said it was voluntary and then he get into a stretch period. Didn't you, you had a. Did you do the activation period? I don't recall. I don't think.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, we thought about, you know, it wasn't voluntary. Some people volunteered out of it.
Pat McAfee
Who's that?
Chuck Pagano
I think, I think you did like we'd run down, do a couple, you know, toe touches or whatever and then run back down and then do these side and you're like, okay, activate Ds. I'm going to kick with, with Vinny. Okay, I'm good and loose.
Pat McAfee
I'm sweating.
Chuck Pagano
No, but yeah, that. I think that's pretty routine now. You go to any, any practice in the National Football League Unice, Most probably all 32 teams doing some type of activation to get going.
Pat McAfee
But it feels like coach Riz is saying, hey listen, we're all warming up okay for practice. Guys kind of rolled the ball out there a couple different times. We don't want to do that. And then also at practice, we're rolling here. Derek Carr was almost like, I don't say shocked while he was saying it, but he was trying to think back to last time when I my career. This might be long time and Lord knows tot time on task. We need that whole thing. Hopefully it works down there.
Chuck Pagano
So it seems like a lot of things probably were slipping through the cracks. There probably wasn't a lot of details. Maybe like, you know, when you go on those lose, like when you're winning, all that stuff's happening, but you're like, okay, sweep it under the rug. We're good, we're good, we're good. We don't Want to disrupt. But then when you lose seven straight.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
You don't want.
Pat McAfee
You don't want to fix what's not broke. You know, like, we're winning. Who cares? Who cares? Who cares? Who cares? Then as soon as you lose, it's like, you remember punter just said, I'm not doing activation period.
Connor
He's left.
Pat McAfee
He was tired. I don't know.
Chuck Pagano
We were women, so I was good with it.
Pat McAfee
Hey, man, I was bombing the ball.
Chuck Pagano
Hey, have a good day?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Listen, you understand. You understand if you decide not to do something, though, you're going to get some on site. You have to be good. Yeah. You're going to have to be good if you suck. Now, there's a lot of things your case is kind of building. Loud on Twitter, talks a lot, skips out on activation period. We need to potentially. Can't have any shanks if you're old. Pat McAfee and I understood that. Let's get back to the hot seat. Connor has a question for you. Chuck.
Connor
Yeah, Chuck, another place you've been. Chicago. It's getting pretty loud around old coach Matt Eberflusse. What do you think about the situation up there? And should we read more into what, you know, DJ Moore and some of the players are talking about when it comes to schemes and the offense and everything, or should we kind of have our sights just on Eberflusse in that situation?
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, I mean, this thing two weeks ago, before the Hail Mary, it was all good.
Pat McAfee
Just two weeks ago.
Chuck Pagano
We're not even close to this conversation. I mean, Zito, every week I come in here, I've never seen Zito light on his feet like he was. I mean, with anticipation. So he's floating around here like. Like Peter. Like Peter Pan. He's so fired up about his Bears.
Pat McAfee
You were floating. He didn't say light on your feet.
Chuck Pagano
Stop it.
Pat McAfee
He meant light floating from joy. You stop it.
Chuck Pagano
Hey. So we got and Hail Mary, but I think part of the problem. Con man came when they're down on the goal line, right? And he elects to put an offensive lineman in and hand him the football in that same game against Washington. And what happened? Fumble, fumble, fumble. Right. And all we talked about at the end of that game was what, the Hail Mary, right? Tyreek Stevenson, blah, blah, blah. But I don't know if any ownership was ever taken on that. Maybe it was. I might have missed it. Like, we probably should have had, like, the ball in Caleb's hand, our number one overall pick or whatever, try to score down there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but what about the.
Chuck Pagano
So you coupled that.
Connor
You couple that and last week with the, you know, right before the halftime, the 50 yard run that they throw.
Chuck Pagano
Two quick passes to the sideline, right. They got a timeout. So you got to defend the whole field. Now you got a third and five and this thing breaks off on you.
Pat McAfee
There's a lot going on.
Chuck Pagano
And then number two is walking off the field and the play still going on. So it's a. It's a horrible look, right? It's a horrible look. And then when they ask him, and you can read whatever you want to read into that. I didn't think, I don't know if you thought there was much to DJ Moore's answer, but it's still there. It leaves the door open for all of us to sit there and go, holy crap. And then if you look at their schedule moving forward.
Pat McAfee
Oh, buddy, anytime these tweets are being put out about you, that is when you know it's bad. And Eva flu knows you got to win. Especially in Chicago. Massive city, great sports, sports fans haven't been good in a long time, but had number one overall. Pick a lot of hype, had some moments of greatness. If that continues to go to the south, people are going to expect a little bit of a change. And that's a real hot seat. Yeah. Let's get back to coach Pagana's hot seat. Tone has a question for you, Chuck.
Ty Schmidt
All right, Coach, I got a situation for you.
Connor
Okay.
Pat McAfee
You're.
Ty Schmidt
You're 10 point dogs on the road. You just score with 27 seconds left, extra point ties it two. You could go for the win. What do you do in that situation? I'm talking about the Chiefs and Bucks from Monday night.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, I figured as much. Chiefs and Bucks. And the quarterback for Kansas City is Mahomes. Mahomes. Patrick. Patrick. And I believe Pat and Tone, I believe toxic table that he's like a thousand and zero in those situations. Pretty much. And I saw him with like 13 seconds against Buffalo a couple years ago. Right. To force overtime and eventually win an overtime. Yeah, I think I'm probably going to go for two in that situation. Now, what could have happened better maybe was like if we run the clock down and leave less time on the clock, say it's less than 10 seconds and then we've got a fourth and go and maybe there's two seconds and you take the lead and you leave Kansas City with less than 10 seconds. You feel a lot better about that scenario. Anything over that you don't. But I just looked at. We just were on the field for 11 play drive. I'm watching Kansas City's defense right after we score that touchdown.
Pat McAfee
We got hands on.
Chuck Pagano
How does it go, Pat?
Pat McAfee
We got hands on hips retired. They were.
Chuck Pagano
They were gassed. They were totally gassed. So, I mean, if you're going to go steal one, let's go steal one. I think if you took a poll right at that second. If coach and I love Todd, we work together. He's a smart coach.
Pat McAfee
We have massive respect.
Chuck Pagano
Massive respect. Right. And those moments in Hindsight is always 2020. So it's so easy for us sit up here and say, o, you should have, you could, you blah, blah, all that crap. Right. I got second guess more than anybody in the National Football League during my time. And I gave a lot of people, you know, reason to second guess. But not on purpose. We were trying.
Pat McAfee
No, absolutely intent. But if you were.
Chuck Pagano
But in that moment, if you were going to pull the whole sideline, say, hey, what do you guys think? Go for two. Let's get the hell out of here. One way or another.
Pat McAfee
Especially on prime time. Yeah. Like Baker's Baker.
Ty Schmidt
Soon as he loses.
Chuck Pagano
Classic.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Baker.
Chuck Pagano
Oh, mother.
Pat McAfee
Thank God.
Ty Schmidt
I guess we'll take it that way.
Chuck Pagano
You see Hussey.
Pat McAfee
Hussey. Oh, sorry. You guys want the ball, right? Yeah. Okay. It's been fun Bake. Hussie's the man. I'm a. There's some refs out there. And once again, I'm. There's Travis Kelsey with having his own record breaking night. 14 catches, 100 yards, no touchdowns. Not great for fantasy. Need him to get in. Please. Travis, he's been on our fantasy team as our starting tight end since the beginning.
Gumpy
Sure.
Pat McAfee
And we've stuck with him. There's a lot of times a lot of people like you need. He's not getting points for you. You need to get him out.
Connor
Like he's Travis Kelsey, dick and thin.
Pat McAfee
He's, you know what? And the other guys perform better when he's out there, you know, even on fantasy team.
Connor
Amen.
Pat McAfee
So we're going to keep going. As if he could have just got in the end zone. It would have been great. But he's thinking the same damn thing. Actually, you know what he's thinking? Did we win? Who cares?
Connor
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
That's Travis Kelsey.
Connor
Still lead blocking.
Pat McAfee
Lead blocking.
Chuck Pagano
I saw that.
Pat McAfee
He's being put into positions to be the crack the block to spring things. It's like that's. That hasn't Been Travis Kelsey football his whole career. But now he's gotten older, more successful, more wealthy, more popular. Now he's getting more gritty too. What a dog, dude.
Chuck Pagano
34, 35 years old.
Pat McAfee
Yep. Is that it?
Connor
I believe he's 34.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Good haircuts. His haircuts come. Yeah.
Connor
Bring the stash back, man.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we need a tr.
Connor
Yeah, it looked fantastic.
Pat McAfee
All right, last question for the hot seat from Ty Schmidt.
Gumpy
Yeah, Coach Chief, one of the teams that had a big splash at the trade deadline. But when you look at the whole trade deadline, in hindsight, who are the biggest winners and losers in your opinion?
Chuck Pagano
I think to your point, D Hop and I look at both ways. I look at the team and also the player, right? So between D Hop, Washington getting Lattimore and then Detroit getting Zedarius Smith, I think those three organizations won big, big time. And I think those, those players, each of them came from a. A two win team, I believe.
Pat McAfee
So they. What happened with Lattimore's number up there in Washington?
Chuck Pagano
So I believe it's Rodriguez is a defender up there. A player that was wearing 23. And normally what happens, Pat, when these guys come in and they wear the same jersey number, Those guys are like, okay, you want my jersey, it's going to cost you business. This kid says, I'm not going to. This guy's a veteran. He's a Pro bowl player. Four time Pro bowl player and we've got a great player. I'm not asking him for anything. He's earned us more than I have. I haven't done anything.
Pat McAfee
Hands the jersey over.
Chuck Pagano
Hands the jersey over. I thought that was so cool. I tweeted out on X. You know, character and culture matter, right? Kudos to Dan Quinn and the front office brass for turning this thing around like that.
Pat McAfee
How about them being buyers at the trade deadline?
Connor
Unreal.
Pat McAfee
Nobody would have predicted that.
Chuck Pagano
No, absolutely. And the biggest loser, I mean, we know who that is, right? We don't even have to talk about it.
Pat McAfee
Oh, who's that? Who? Cowboys.
Chuck Pagano
I think the team with the star on their helmet.
Connor
Wow.
Chuck Pagano
Mingo, a good young player. I think he was Carolina's number two last year in 2023 draft, right? I was looking at some numbers like you say, boy, I think he's since 2000. I'm going to try to get this right now. Since the year 2000 receivers with 50 plus catch, 50 plus catches, right?
Pat McAfee
Oh, no, I don't think you're going to get it out.
Chuck Pagano
There's 526 in this pool.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Chuck Pagano
Since 2000 and his yards per catch average was 0.75.
Pat McAfee
Oh, don't say.
Ty Schmidt
Is that good?
Chuck Pagano
It was 526.
Pat McAfee
Oh, no.
Chuck Pagano
526.
Pat McAfee
Oh. So the start of his career. He's the worst.
Gumpy
He's the worst player since 2000.
Pat McAfee
Just all of football.
Chuck Pagano
So he just.
Gumpy
Yeah, he's the worst.
Chuck Pagano
I mean we could probably.
Pat McAfee
CFL.
Connor
Are we sure?
Pat McAfee
Jonathan Mingo's point is 33rd team. Okay. Jonathan Mingo's point, 75 yards per route run is dead last for any wide receiver that has caught 50 plus passes since 2,526 out of five. That's not his fault though. Yeah, he's running track. They're telling them what to do. They're telling what to do. Cowboys are gonna drive.
Ty Schmidt
He's not driving.
Pat McAfee
Top off the defense, Mike McCarthy's gonna have that pen going like this. See that?
Connor
Get going.
Pat McAfee
See that?
Chuck Pagano
But when you look at do, what does he always say?
Pat McAfee
Orlovsky. Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
The problem with the Cowboys offense, they're just running straight.
Ty Schmidt
We don't need it.
Chuck Pagano
Last time I saw him do a deal, they just run.
Pat McAfee
This guy.
Chuck Pagano
This was a hell of an effort. This ain't his fault.
Pat McAfee
Exactly. That is a phenomenal guy.
Chuck Pagano
I mean that way behind him, hey, in Canada that's a completion, isn't it?
Pat McAfee
Hey, I think Canada or the other way punter had a walk off this weekend in Canada. It's pretty sick. Yeah. 35 yard punches. If you can't do that honestly, you should not be in pads ever again. And he wins the game. I was like, should I go play up in Canada, go get a walk off.
Chuck Pagano
I'm just, hey, those are good coaches, good people over there, right? I think that was just a move that like, hey, we're going to do something. Right? Jerry finally said, hey, we're going to do something. We got some.
Connor
But if Daniels just running straight, they got the guy that runs the shortest routes of all time.
Pat McAfee
A little variety.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, but can you imagine the hitch?
Ty Schmidt
Just true.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, that now passes.
Pat McAfee
That's what I'm saying. Like being able to cut on a dime. Every step you take on a field.
Connor
Say, huh.
Pat McAfee
Two yard shade, 0.75 yards. What is that? Three, four, three feet, two and a half feet.
Chuck Pagano
Is that what that is?
Pat McAfee
2.6.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
What does that look like? I think two and a half.
Connor
I can't even see it. It's so quick.
Pat McAfee
Well, I wear size 12, so that's actually two feet.
Gumpy
You're taking about two steps back right there. Yep.
Chuck Pagano
Okay, so we're. That. We're coach. We're coaching the DB's, like, who's lining up against this guy? If you. If you give any. Burst out, if you give any ground this week on Mingle.
Pat McAfee
Are we jamming him? No, that's actually deep coverage. Yeah, that is.
Chuck Pagano
Let's play off. Let's bail.
Pat McAfee
Maybe put a D tackle in whose body is bigger than two and a half smart, you know, 0.75.
Connor
Then he just walks out the field.
Pat McAfee
That can't play today. Joining us now, that's not his fault. Once again. No.
Gumpy
The body control we just saw out there, too.
Pat McAfee
It's a great catch. Yeah, he got thrown out of bounds.
Chuck Pagano
He's incredible.
Pat McAfee
Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who is a general manager in the NFL, multiple time super bowl champion, a Ted Talker, a podcast host, a live show host in an email newsletter founder and the daily coach, ladies and gentlemen, Michael Lombardi. Lambo. Great. We're talking about free agency deals, and Chuck Pagano said it was like everybody was a winner except for one team, the Dallas Cowboys. Why is everybody viewing it that way? Do you think the two years left on the rookie contract plays a part of this, or why do you think that deal goes down?
Michael Lombardi
I think what Dallas likes to do, and they did it with Trey Lance, is they typically grade players in college, and if the college grade is something that they really like, and in this case, I think they really like Mingo coming out. Like, they love Trey Lance coming out. They had a very high grade on Trey Lance coming out. They traded for Trey Lance. They've ignored whatever happened in pro football. They're saying that our scouting process, what we believed of him as a player coming out in the draft, is worth the fourth round pick because we've really seen no evidence that we're wrong. Based on what? We graded him in college. And look, there's a lot of circumstances in Carolina. I mean, my first reaction to the. To the trade was the last team I would look for a receiver might be the Carolina Panthers because they only have three on the roster right now, and they traded two of them away. So this is really about the Cowboys college scouting evaluation more than it is what Mingo's done in pro football.
Pat McAfee
Okay, well, good luck to all the teams that made big trades. How many conversations are happening that we will never know about? There was obviously a lot. A lot more chatter. Right?
Ernest
Yeah.
Michael Lombardi
I think a lot of this is because, look, you've got the compensatory element that's out there. You know, you've got a guy who's in the last year, you've got. If you start trading away players, you start sending a message to your team. And look, we know there's 11 teams in the NFL that have three or less wins in it. And so there's not a lot of. There's a. The bottom third of this league is not very good. And what happens if you start trading away guys for next year? You end up sending a message through your building that you're really not trying to compete. It becomes very difficult. And I think ultimately it's a challenge because you want to make sure you're getting true value for the player. And as I've said before on the show, like we're not sure where the draft's going to be now with nil, right. We know that it's going to be a little diluted. It'll be more of a senior draft. Are those picks worth as much as they once were? I think Detroit trading for Zendarius Smith was critical. They needed to do that. I think Pittsburgh trading for those two players, you know, both of them, you know, are older. They're going to have to rely on Williams, can he stay healthy. But I think what happened to Pittsburgh was they lost to Dallas, right? And the only reason they lost to Dallas was Nate Herbert got hurt on that drive and Dallas was able to move the ball because only T.J. watt. So now they trade for Preston Smith and they got what we would call three for two. They now have three players to play two positions and that really is going to help TJ Watt get a little bit more rest and keep him stronger later in the game. And I think those, those are the kind of reasons, look, you're not finding the perfect solution now. You're finding a piece to the puzzle.
Pat McAfee
So Preston was a seventh rounder. To your point about the draft and how I think some teams and source says are telling us from teams that there are multiple people that are viewing the draft the same way you are with the nil. Those 5, 6, 7 picks might not be as good as what they once were because the front error, the middle aren't as loaded with the talent that decides to stick around for 750 grand to play another college year or a million bucks to play another college year and develop and do your thing and live like a king with zero. Think about these college kids. Oh my God, they have no other.
Connor
Having so much fun.
Pat McAfee
So in the rich, not all of them, but some of them. But that Is affecting, I think like a seventh rounder for Preston. Yeah, I think you do that. Mike Williams, they wanted a wide receiver been won a receiver. Was that. What did they trade for a fifth? Like, I think they feel that way. I think that's how a lot of teams are starting to feel now. Speaking of teams that are feeling and trade deadline, Cincinnati Bengals bring in a running back. Obviously they lose Joe Mixon this past offseason. They have a massive game this evening against the Baltimore Ravens. How excited are you for this one, Lombo? Feels like we got a good game, a guaranteed good game in store for us on Thursday night.
Michael Lombardi
Well, and I'm worried about Cincinnati T. Higgins not playing. I mean, if you go back and watch the first game and Joe Burrow completed 37 pass attempted 37 passes in that game, 26 of the targets were between T. Higgins and Jamar Chase. And you take those targets away. I think Higgins led the team on that day and targets thrown towards them. And now if they don't have him. Look, we know the Bengals can't run the football. Chad Brown's a good nickel runner, but he has a really hard time of. They have a hard time of controlling the line of scrimmage, running the ball. You can't run the ball ball on Baltimore. I mean, Zach Taylor tried to run the ball when they had a chance to win the game. He had three runs, they got a yard and then they missed the field goal. So this is going to be a Joe Burrow's got to carry the team type of game, and it's a challenge to do that against Baltimore. When you look at every single number in Lamar Jackson's MVP season from last year compared to where he is this year, he's enhanced himself. And Derrick Henry averages six yards a run. He's got over a thousand yards rushing already. And we know with PJ Hill not being able to play tonight, he's doubtful to play this Cincinnati interior defense. They were trying to make a trade. They couldn't pull one off. They couldn't make a deal. They got the running back for a seventh, but they were looking for a corner and they were looking for a defensive tackle and they ended up empty. This will be a challenge, but these games between the north typically tend to be tight, and I expect a tight one today. But the way Baltimore, Baltimore. Pat Baltimore averages 7.1 yards per play. Yeah, the next closest team is 6.5. I mean, they're dominating.
Pat McAfee
They had 20 personnel groups this past weekend. On offense, 20 is what AQ said he counted them up. And obviously a defense like that's very difficult to be able to figure out what the hell is going on. And they also had Nelson Aguilar, I think was lined up a tight end on one of those, and he actually blocked in the entirety. So not only is Monkin have all the talent at every position that you could want and depth now, which is obviously a huge part of it, they're also taking advantage of it. It feels like every player on their offense smart. Feels like they got a lot of very, very smart guys on that offense, so they're able to do whatever. But when you have Lamar as a quarterback, you. You freeze the defense to begin with. Then you got Derek Henry, so you got to fill the box. Can't be light in the box. And then now with all the weapons they have outside, they're seemingly unstoppable. Deontay, especially with how good their offensive line is. And then obviously they had Deontay Johnson. It's like this Ravens team is a spectacle. We actually brought up a couple times, like the Ravens need to make it to the super bowl sometime so that the whole world can watch Lamar Jackson and this Ravens team play. Because, you know, there's people that only see the super bowl that don't know our sport. And it's like, could you imagine when Lamar Jackson steps on the field and then Derrick Henry's on that team? What the rest of the world. I didn't know what the fuck's going on in this sport. I didn't know they had. What is this entire thing. And we're lucky for that tonight. We'll obviously ask you about your picks later if you're going to talk about this particular game. We're excited for that. Let's move along. Some other NFL stories happening. Chuck Pagano has a question for you. Lambo.
Chuck Pagano
Hey. So, Lambo, we both spent time. You spent more time than I did with, you know, with the Raiders. They fire Luke Getzy after this last loss. You know, they've named along with some other offensive assistants, Joe Philbin, who's now. He's going to be the interim offensive line coach, was there as senior offensive assistant. They got Marvin Lewis, who is assistant head coach. They've got Coughlin. Coughlin, you know, who he consults in. So a lot of those guys now they've elevated are named Scotty Turner as the interim OC and hired former head coach of the Oakland Raiders, Nor Turner, who we know and love very well. How do you see this? You know, the inner workings, you know, Mark Davis the owner very, very, very well. Well, how do you see this thing turning out and, and. And which direction you think they're going to go from here?
Michael Lombardi
When I just think to me, Chuck, you know, that, you know, Mark has been very irrational. He's made very quick decisions, and, you know, he's fallen in love. He's listened to a lot of the wrong people. I think, to me, I'm not sure he has enough confidence in. In listening to the right people. And they talk about the radar way all the time. I don't think they really operate under the Raider way. They light that torch for Al every week. But does anybody really understand what Al was all about? I think that's a hard conversation to have, and they have no stability or no continuity. I love North Scott. You know that they're walking into a tough job here because this offensive line has struggled all season. Joe Philbin is going to have a tough time. They can't run the ball. And then, of course, they have a really difficult time in terms of being able to get control of the game. They've gotten worse since. Since the year has begun. Defensively, they haven't been anywhere where they were last year. So, you know, I think Antonio Pierce is grasping for straws here at this point, because how has he made the team better from a year ago when he took over as the interim coach? I think that's the real challenge in this off season. Now he's talking about maybe starting Desmond Ritter at quarterback. I think they have more of an offensive problem than just a quarterback problem. They have a. They have an identity problem. Right. They could run the ball last year. They can't this year.
Pat McAfee
And they were smoking cigars not too.
Connor
Long ago, having so much fun.
Michael Lombardi
Yeah, well, everybody was happy, Pat. That's. That's what happens. Everybody's happy. We're going to go to Dairy Queen, we're going to smoke cigars. Everybody's happy, you know, and the players are happy. But now we're losing. Who's happy now? No one's happy. Right? That's the problem. Look, I think it's hard to win in the NFL. You got to put a time in, you know, and he's celebrating, smoking cigars. It's great. Everybody's delighted. But I think Mark Davis has got to understand that, you know, players play, coaches coach, and you're going to have to separate yourself a little bit from that. And I think that's been the ongoing problem at the Raiders. Look, there's been very little success since Rich Ganon led Him to his. Led us to a Super bowl in O2. There's what, three playoff games in that time and they've lost all of them.
Pat McAfee
Rich Gannon had that. Yeah. Great pump fake too. Oh, yeah.
Connor
Unbelievable.
Pat McAfee
Unbelievable pump. What a dog.
Connor
One of the goats.
Pat McAfee
Rich Gannon, great player. He was always great on Rich made.
Michael Lombardi
It Rich, made the team rich. Competitive drive, his competitive stamina brought energy to that organization that we hadn't had. And that was the most fertile time from 1999 when he signed until when he got hurt in 03, and then that was the end of it. But since then there's been no consistency and they've just been in it. And it's really sad for the NFL because the NFL is better when the Raiders are good. They really are. The Raiders, the team everybody loves to hate. The Pirate, the autumn win, all that. But unfortunately, I think Mark is just, just he listens and he, you know, he reacts without any plan. You know, never confused hope for a plan. They're hoping to win, not planning to win.
Chuck Pagano
Do you think that, you know him passing on Richie Passaccio, who did a great job, right. As an interim coach. I think we'd all say right. And then he doesn't, you know, he goes to Josh, right? Or whatever. I think that's.
Connor
Yeah, yeah, that's.
Chuck Pagano
And then Antonio steps in for this one, does a good job. The players lobby, devontae, Max Crosby go and say, we gotta have. So he says, okay, I've messed up maybe with Rich. I'm not going to mess up this time. You think he regrets that decision or.
Michael Lombardi
You know, I don't know if he does. I think to me the problem is they don't have a chief figure out, obviously officer in the building. They don't have anybody there that can tell them why they're losing and why they. What they need to do. They don't have an identity, they don't have a flop. This whole franchise was built on size, speed, the Raiders, a commitment to excellence. We're going to be different. We're not going to belong to a combine. We're going to find players that have great size, speed. We're going to be the fastest team in the league. And they. There's none of this. I mean, this is like what happens to companies that transition from one powerful full force to another that don't really understand what that person was all about. And I think that's the biggest issue with the Raiders. Look, there's. Even when John came in there with all those draft picks, when Gruden came in, they blew most of those draft picks. I mean, Crosby, the fourth round pick, was by far the best player that they drafted. They had three number ones one year and really washed out on all three of them. None of them are on the team. They've had holes in the draft. They took Tyree Wilson over Jalen Carter last year in the draft. That was another mistake, too, years ago. And I said this to the people that worked in the building at the time, look, you work for an organization. You should take Jalen Carter because that's who he would take. Like, just ask yourself, who would Al take? Would he take some kid from Texas Tech who was injured or would he take the best defensive player in the draft? I think the answer is pretty easy.
Pat McAfee
Interesting. You know, anytime the baton is passed from founder to next, you always wonder what messages are going to make it through the transition and what, you know, traits of a team are going to be able to carry on that Raiders team. You know, obviously trying to figure it out. Have been trying to figure it out for a long time. It's not a bad time to be in the middle of a slump and not being able to have a CFO chief figure out officer. Because your stadium is going to sell out.
Gumpy
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Because people are going to travel. Right. To watch those games because they're in Las Vegas and you're in the Chiefs division. They're in the middle of that dynasty. So it looks like Raiders fans, the good news is you have about 10 to 15 years to figure this one out.
Connor
And Brady just got there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, and Tom Brady just got there. Yeah, you're right. I didn't even think about it.
Michael Lombardi
Look, let him get the biggest mistake.
Pat McAfee
Another voice.
Michael Lombardi
Chuck asked a really good question, and I think if Mark Davis looks back on. I mean, Jim Harbaugh was a Raider. His first coaching job was in Raiderland. You know, he came in there and he loved the Raiders silver and black. I think to me, letting him go to your opponent, the Chargers, has to be a mistake that, that obviously Mark Davis has to regret because he should have just transferred the authority of the organization over to Jim. Jim was a Raider. I mean, he always was one. That was his first team that he coached in. And I think to me, now you're competing against Vegas. Now you're competing against Harbaugh, you're competing against Sean Payton, and you're competing against Andy Reid. That's a tough sled.
Connor
Him at the Sphere.
Pat McAfee
Him. Him with his glasses. Yeah, I went to the Sphere last night.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Did you See this thing and then his take on it and how he would motivate the team with being. Needing to be each individual piece of LED that makes up that entire. One of those goes out. It's like a Christmas light back whenever you're younger. One goes out, they all go out. That's what the LED is at the sphere. I was captivated by it. That would have been amazing. Him with Max Crosby. Yeah.
Connor
And Wilkins.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Wilkins going over there. Feels like the perfect Raider. And then season obviously hasn't worked out. They got time, though. Speaking of time, are we in the time now of a couple teams that we could have never expected? Connor has a question for you.
Connor
Yeah, Lambo. How do you feel about the Atlanta Falcons and the Arizona Cardinals? It seems like the Cardinals, you know, they were kind of on the brink of starting over and getting rid of Gannon, and now all of a sudden, they're leading the division and the Falcons are almost running away with the NFC south with the Bucks being so banged up. Are we in the season now where both those teams might be in it at the end? And what could make some noise in the playoffs here?
Michael Lombardi
I mean, start with the Cardinals. I think they're really a hell of a story. I mean, Jonathan Gannon's done a great job. They're. They have great, great mental toughness as a team. I mean, they really do. They don't give up. They stay. They're down 10 points against Miami. They keep competing. You can't name three or four plays. Buddha Baker's been sensational for him on defense. James Conner, to me, is an unsung hero. Typically, the Steelers never get rid of a good player or a great player. And Connor has been great for them. And I think Drew Petsic, their offensive coordinator at Arizona, deserves a ton of credit for designing a run game. I mean, they ran the ball down the Bears throat. They were more physical. They're not a perfect team, but, boy, they play hard. They're a tough out. It came back from 10 points down against the 49ers on the road and won. They came back 10 points down against Miami on the road and won. That tells you a lot about your resilience of your team. And last week, if I would have told you Kyler Murray rushed for 6 yards and threw for less than 160 yards. You just said there's no way they beat the Bears. But they didn't beat the Bears. They destroyed the Bears. So I take my hat off to them. They've done great. I think Kirk Cousins has Played really well. And this Atlanta offense has been very good, especially when they can get the lead. They didn't get it against Seattle, which is a problem. I still worry about Atlanta's defense. I'm not sure they're going to be. They had three sacks last week against Dallas. That's the most sacks they've had in a game. They have a hard time really covering every game is going to be a shootout for them. But their offense has played really well. I think to me, they've done a great job and Zach Robinson's done well. And I think Kirk Cousins coming off the Achilles is a top five player right now in the league.
Pat McAfee
Top five quarterback, top five interview, too. He was on yesterday. He is awesome.
Connor
Such a weapon.
Pat McAfee
He told a story about chasing down a Keeb Tlaib in a Pro bowl after throwing a pick and punching it out. And he said, I'm kind of underrated. You may be hearing some footsteps and they may be mine or something like that. On if he is so comfortable seemingly down Atlanta and obviously we all witnessed and we all had our own opinions and all of us kind of shared the same ones. Whenever they drafted Penix, it's like, why would you add in extra potential drama to the quarterback room when he hasn't been there? You got a new head coach. He doesn't know anybody down there. You just paid him 180 million, 130, whatever, guaranteed. Why would you do that? We were all questioning everything, you know, legitimately, and I think rightfully so. But then as you kind of watch it unfold, it's like Raheem Morris dog. They make moves on a secondary before the season starts, a free agency. Then on offensive side, they've awoken Kyle Pitts and an algier Bijon. Robinson's getting used a lot more. The weapons. Mooney's going banana. It's like. And Kirk is making all the right choices. And he said, we start out one and two and everybody was getting loud. And then we just started rattling off some wins. Everybody's in. It's like, clearly Kirk's team. It's like they've done a great job in an NFC South. That is gettable. Oh, yeah. You know, and I think they should be incredibly pumped about how quickly they've changed, just like the commanders.
Connor
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
This commander is crazy, don't you think?
Michael Lombardi
Yeah, no, it's amazing. It's an incredible story because, look, you know, you can make the case for Jaden Daniels being the MVP of the league because without him, would the commanders be as Good as they are. Think about this. I think they've scored in almost every single quarter. They've scored some points in 34 out of the 36 quarters they played this year. They've been remarkable. I mean their offense has been really good. They run the ball. Kingsbury deserves a ton of credit, but this Jaden Daniels has been far and above better than anyone, I mean, could expect. When you look at his deep ball throwing, his playmaking skills, his ability to run the ball from the pocket and make plays, I mean with that game against the Giants ended up as a five point game. But remember they, they were kneeling down at the one yard line that whenever they needed to move the ball against the Giants, like that throw right there was, you know, they needed, they, they made the plays they had to make. And I think this whole culture in Washington. Credit Adam Peters, credit Dan Quinn. They've done a really good job. They brought in a lot of good leaders on the team. Their defense is improving every week. I think the Lattimore edition, whether he plays this week or not, with the hamstring, they needed to do that. Remember they traded Josh Dotson to the Eagles and basically what they ended up doing is they traded Dotson for Lattimore. When you break down the trade, they really didn't give up that much to get Lattimore considering they gave up Dotson.
Pat McAfee
And the offense is doing a okay, you know, with, without Dotson and Marshawn. Lattimore should make them better on the defensive side. You talk about Dan Quinn and you talk about obviously having new ownership and Peters, who I know have deep history with the Patriots. We had a chance to talk to him night of the draft because Bill was joining us and connected us. He seemed like a great dude to chit chat with whenever you think about Cliff Kingsbury. Okay. And I've referenced this and I don't know if he's still getting paid by the Cardinals or not. I have no idea. I assume he is because coaching contracts are the greatest racket in the history of sports. Especially if you can get a head coaching one and then get fired and then you're able to just be a professional golfer getting paid a head coaching salary for multiple years and then you can go catch another contract or two other places as well. Hey, well earned, though. Well earned. Coaches, thank you for your commitment to ball. Thank you for your commitment to ball in this entire thing. I agreed. Agreed. A lot of time. Cliff Kingsbury, though, he's going to be up for head coaching jobs obviously because he's done it before. So he understands what the role is being a CEO of a team. But is there a chance that he decides to just stay with the Cardinals because he has been a head coach before and maybe doesn't want to sign up for all the bullshit again?
Michael Lombardi
Yeah, I think he's. And look, I think some college is going to want to talk to him too. Remember, he was at Texas Tech, he got fired, so he's now coming to pro football. Look, the one thing when you're coaching a guy like Daven Daniels and you know you're going to keep him, you could say no to jobs. You don't have to take a job, you don't have to take a bad job. There's a lot of bad jobs that teams don't want to take because of the cap, because of the structure of the organization. I mean, you know it's going to be a challenge to win some places just because of the way it's set up. So when you're coaching a guy like Jaden Daniels or you're Ben Johnson coaching a really good team like the Detroit Lions, you don't have to take a job, you don't have to take a bad job. You're getting paid really well at where you are and you got less pressure on you because you don't have to deal with the whole team.
Pat McAfee
Agreed. I think some people believe that when a head coaching job is offered, there's only 32 of them. You're gonna have to take it. But there's been people that have been picky in the past. There's a lot of offensive gurus I think right now that are very highly sought after. Ben Johnson, Slowick, Cliff Kingsbury is getting added to that list very quickly to be a head coach job again. Maybe he goes to West Virginia.
Connor
That'd be a good move.
Pat McAfee
He's in the area already. Maybe he's head coach in West Virginia if they decide to part ways with Neil Brown. I'm obviously not suggesting that maybe Cliff.
Ty Schmidt
Kings, he fit right into Morgan.
Pat McAfee
Maybe John Gruden, maybe Jon Gruden. They both heard he's trying to get back into the entirety. But those jobs are going to be open. I think there's a lot of names that are kind of starting to float around already. We're at that time of the year. Go ahead, Ty.
Gumpy
Yeah, Lambo. I think a connection a lot of people make right now with Cliff is the Bears potentially because of his familiarity with Caleb Williams. But we were just talking about it with Chuck. What do you think ends up Happening with the Bears. We've seen all the stats with Eber Fluss, not great. Pretty much has beat anybody. And then also someone else that no one's really talking about other than, you know, I know you love this guy. You've been talking about him quite a bit on the GM Shuffle. But Doug Peterson in Jacksonville, we just heard that Trevor Lawrence probably isn't going to start this week as well. What do you think happens with both of those, Both of those openings? Well, not openings, but let's start.
Michael Lombardi
Ty. Let's start with Peterson because I didn't say this, the owner did. The owner said this is the most talented team that he's ever been a part of. And when an owner says that and you're two and seven, the head coach is in a lot of trouble, right? I mean that because the owner was expected to be 7 and 2, not 2 and 7. So when an owner comes out and thinks the team's really talented and you don't win, then that tells me he's blaming the coach. So look, the owner's got bigger issues than what the season record is, the long lasting effect of losing. Now you're moving into a new stadium in Jacksonville. You're going to have to sell a bunch of PSLs tickets, all that. You better make sure you got a program that's winning. Winning puts people in the seats. We know that. And I think unfortunately they haven't won. I mean last week's, I mean, to me, I almost went out of my chair last week. You got a minute 42 to go in the game. You got first and 10 at the 13 yard line and you're throwing a wheel route into the end zone. That gets picked up. Everybody can blame Trevor Lawrence all you want.
Chuck Pagano
You should.
Michael Lombardi
You couldn't give the ball back to Philly with a minute. Even if you score and touched it on that play, it's a bad call because now Philly's got more time to come back and beat you. You needed to run the ball there, let the clock go a little bit. Let the clock go down. Try to put some pressure on Sirianni. Is he going to call timeout? Is he not? But when you're just so busy calling pass plays and ignoring it, it affects your team and nobody's going to blame the situation on that. Well, it was an interception. No, it was a bad. That call should have happened. That's why when Jim Harbaugh's coaching the team, that call doesn't happen because he's managing the game. And I think that's really an issue. And I think that's going to be a problem down in Jacksonville for Chicago. I mean, look, Chicago has always done this backwards. They hired John Fox, they picked Trubisky. You know, they have Matt Nagy, they pick Justin Fields, and the next year they make a coaching change like there's no continuity with what they're doing. And I thought Ebert did a hell of a job keeping the forces together last year, but, you know, when I watched them this year against Arizona, they got pushed around. They got pushed around and, you know, I'm not sure they're at the level. I think to me, their biggest issue in Chicago is the lack of offensive line. I've said it all off season. I don't think they can control the game. This whole idea, we're going to throw, throw, throw to win. Look, I know this about the National Football League. Running the football produces very field goals. But you got to run the ball to control the pace of the game. You got to run the ball to take the pressure off a young quarterback. You got to run the ball. Not saying run it, establish the run. I'm saying be able to control the game. In Chicago, when Swift plays well against bad defenses, they're good. But when he doesn't, it's a problem. I think to me, this is a huge game. This game against New England this week for Matt Eberfluss is really going to define it. If he can get through this one, he's got a chance to stay. If he doesn't meet New England or look good in this game and the team looks like, like last week, when you watch New Orleans play against Carolina, guys, you could see that New Orleans wasn't listening. You could see it. They really had no choice. I like Dennis Allen, but they had no choice. That team wasn't playing to the level it had to. You could see it on the tape. Not that Carolina plays at any level either, but you had to make that choice. I think Chicago is the same way.
Pat McAfee
Okay, we got like 30 seconds here. Quick picks. What do you like this weekend?
Michael Lombardi
You know, I think the Eagles are playing really good. I know Jalen Hurts was out, but I think six and a half. I think this cowboy team with Cooper Rush, I think it's going to be hard. They can't run the ball and the Eagle defense is playing really good right now.
Pat McAfee
All right, we appreciate you. Ladies and gentlemen, multiple champion paisan Michael Lombardi. This hour has been presented by Ram Trucks and powered by the new 2025 Ram 1500. Football on Tuesday and Wednesday nights is a good thing. We're at that part of the season. Let's get excited about that. But also tonight, an AFC north matchup is going to be guaranteed to bring the buzz. Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson kicking off Week 10 of the NFL season. It is a fantastic time to be a football fan. And then obviously this weekend, lsu, Alabama is the big talking point for college ball on Saturday with another packed slate Sunday. Huge. Another Monday night game. And boy, playoff implications are already on the line in college and in the NFL. We can't thank you enough. The toxic tables here at Boston Connor and at Ty Schmidt. Sweet horse on your chest, pal.
Connor
Yeah, thank you. This is one of my favorite ones. I figure, you know what, might as well just wrap the flag. I don't think anybody can really argue with the, you know, the United States of America flag. If you do, then what are we going to. What are we doing here?
Pat McAfee
Well, it's all about the you anyway.
Connor
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. United. That's what we're trying to Red wine blue. Speaking of 1/2 of the hammer, Don Cowboys AP Town feels like you're united with everything because if you were to watch anything, you become that person.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, that's 100% true.
Pat McAfee
I am a. You got to unite yourself with whatever you're watching. It's bad.
Ty Schmidt
Speaking of, Yellowstone comes back this week.
Pat McAfee
So I let's get some chaps, brother.
Ty Schmidt
This cowboy hat ain't going anywhere.
Connor
I'd be riding a horse to work.
Pat McAfee
What's the public money on this evening? I know there's been a lot of like 75, 80% ones on some prime time games for us and you know, they've hit a couple and then obviously a majority of them have lost because that's how sports books operate. 5 1/2 6 point spread this evening for the Ravens at home. What's the public thinking?
Ty Schmidt
We are split. We have a 51% on the Bengals. So basically even money.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so this is what allegedly the sports books are looking for. You know, sports folks are looking for it to be as close to 50, 50 as possible, which is why they move the number to try to get more people to bet on one side or to bet on another side. Every once in a while, though, there'll be a bunch of bets coming in. They move the number the opposite direction. They feel real good about what they're seeing. Versus everybody else. 51% 50%. Two big names, two big superstars leading the teams. I like that. Now a 36 year football coach, 18 in college, 18 in the NFL, is currently 6 and 3 against the spread.
Connor
6 and 3.
Pat McAfee
Little bit of schneide.
Gumpy
Since on a bit of a schneid. I mean, let's just be honest here.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Good catch. It was a good catch, right? No.
Connor
Going to hell.
Pat McAfee
Let's get back to work, he says. Ladies and gentlemen, Chuck Pagan. Let's get back to work. Do we have a good lean tonight? Do we feel good? Because, you know, to Ty's point, it has been a little bit of a, you know, for a while it was yodeli yodeli yodeli yodeli yodel yoli. And all of a sudden the Yodels mountain's still there though.
Gumpy
6.
Pat McAfee
But we've had a couple now coming down this way. Are we trusting climbs? Are we still. Are we back in the flat hills? Are we in the foothills? The foothills in the flatirons.
Gumpy
Flatirons.
Pat McAfee
The flat irons. Are we going to get back to climbing again? How do we feel tonight?
Chuck Pagano
Feel great?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Feel great about this one?
Connor
Do you?
Chuck Pagano
I feel because we.
Pat McAfee
All right. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who's a college football national champions, super bowl champion, a Ryder cup winner and a man who lives in a swing state of Ohio. Ladies and gentlemen, the face of it, the President of Ohio, AJ Hawk, aka 6 and 3 for Chuck against the spread. I don't know what we're believing, what we're not believing. He feels good about tonight. How do you feel about tonight and Chuck?
AJ Hawk
I feel pretty good about where I am leaning right now. No waffling on my part. But I, you know, I do like to hear Chuck's whole presentation and where his brain is at before I ever make my final decision.
Pat McAfee
You're an Ohio guy, so obviously we know. Who AJ Speaking. Yeah. Oh, I'm getting five and a half points, right?
AJ Hawk
I thought it was nine.
Connor
I thought you meant Tuesday nine.
Pat McAfee
What do you. Well, we already. That's over. Obviously we know which way that whole thing went, but A.J. the, the five and a half, I believe is what the actual spread is at ESPN. Bet you can find it at 6 as well. I can already hear you going, I'm good. Joey Burrow and five and a half points. Yeah, okay. That's how I feel. But the worry about the Bengals is what the defense. Right. And the Baltimore Ravens offense is the most efficient, most prolific they've ever been. Seemingly at this point.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I'd say. And I think for some reason, like, the. The Ravens are kind of flying under the radar. I heard you say, like Lamar Jackson, the Ravens need to go to the Super Bowl.
Pat McAfee
Six and a half is now. Wow.
Ernest
Why.
AJ Hawk
Why does it change? That's just because of money coming in.
Chuck Pagano
Got you, Ben. Since he. Right.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Cuz.
Connor
51% on the Bengals.
Pat McAfee
No.
Ty Schmidt
So weird. That's so weird.
Pat McAfee
That is a weird. That's a weird move.
Ty Schmidt
It's only weird because it's the only sports book that's moved and they went from five and a half to six and a half. Everyone else is still at six.
Pat McAfee
Okay. So ESPN Bed heard what us probably doing.
AJ Hawk
They know something. They probably heard.
Ty Schmidt
They probably heard the trends and they were like, holy, I don't know what that is.
Chuck Pagano
So T. Higgins is doubtful. So maybe somebody knows that he is definitely not playing.
Pat McAfee
So was that. Maybe we should look into that? Is there. Is there a thought, though, that we told the ESPN BET people in the first hour of the show that they were the only ones at five and.
Gumpy
A half that could be.
Pat McAfee
Well, yeah, you're the only one. Everybody else is at 6 right now. Oh, shit. We got. We got that. That's obviously not possible. Obviously not the way things work. Not the way things go. We have moved lines before, though, with some conversation has taken place on our program which people don't talk about it. We got some real depth, not a lot of it. There's a deep end of the hole, though.
Ernest
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Gumpy
There's the ocean.
Connor
We hang out in the shallow end.
Ernest
But.
Pat McAfee
But every once in a while we'll go far from the cannonball.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Every once in a while we will.
Gumpy
We'll have to.
Pat McAfee
Bradley Cooper.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Love you.
AJ Hawk
Love you, Coop.
Connor
Let's go, Eagles this weekend, brother.
Pat McAfee
Hey, big one. Big one. You're running back, jumping over people backwards. Don't ever forget it. So you're not worried really about that Cincinnati Bengals defense this evening?
AJ Hawk
No, I'm definitely. I'm more worried about how explosive this Ravens offense is. I think any defense has a tough time stopping this Ravens offense when they're actually rolling, when guys are healthy and things going well for them. But, you know, I would say I'm leaning Bengals at this point right now.
Pat McAfee
Okay. I like that because you're an Ohio guy, you're going to pick Cincinnati. We know it. As soon as I saw that thing. At five and a half. Six. Six and a half. Whatever it is, AJ Hawk now has even more of a reason to pick The Ohio team, led by an Ohio guy who is seemingly more locked in right after the game last week. They get a big win. Joe doesn't know. No, Joe. Joe's not. Listen. What are we celebrating? We want a game. Okay. We lost a bunch, too. Let's continue to move. This is Cincinnati Bengals season like, and how it's been with Joe Burrow, quarterback. Start slow, get hot. Will tonight be one of those hot nights? There's a chance against a very good Ravens team. Ravens, I think, are on the top of the conversation for a lot of people. You know, obviously, the Chiefs, undefeated. They're always going to be there for the afc, especially if Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are playing for them. But the Ravens look different this year. I think everybody kind of sees it. They've gotten more talented. They were close last year. They've been close in the past. A lot of shit has been talked about them not being able to win the big one. They're loading up, going on a run in the NFC side. I think everybody is in agreement. The Detroit Lions are the team that's going to be representing the Lions. And Ty actually said something earlier today that, you know, wants to take the sting and the joy, I think, a little bit out of the Detroit Lions fan. What was that? Do you remember what you said about the Lions?
Gumpy
Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Gumpy
I just said, boy, they better win this year because, well, I just, you know, the amount of Lions fans who have gone back and Foxy's not in this, so let's just. Let's start right there. Let's remove him from the equation.
Connor
Bad take. Still if.
Pat McAfee
If.
Gumpy
If they do win, I will be so happy for Foxy. I really will. That's no bullshit. But the amount of people who have circled back to what I said at the draft in Detroit and Lions fans who are just, like, so poopy pants about it, you know, it's like, hey, listen, that's what we do. We talk shit. Okay? You guys are chanting, fuck the Packers. Like, yeah, I'm gonna say fuck Detroit back. Okay? So a lot of people come back and say, like, oh, you worried about the Lions now? Like, listen, listen. I've made no bones about it. I have given the Lions their flowers week in and week out. They're in the division that the team I like is in, okay? So I see what the Lions do every week. And also, Foxy knows this. Lions get really good when what happens? They draft two guys from Iowa.
Connor
Okay?
Gumpy
Two of my favorite Iowa football players of all time. So, yeah, you know, but I'm just saying, and Diggs has mentioned this before, too, you know, you. When you go from a fan base that's just never won before, and then all of a sudden you get good and you start puffing your chest out a little bit more, which you should. You should. But they are. They're the best team in the NFL.
Pat McAfee
Okay? The Chiefs are undefeated.
Gumpy
They are. They are. But I think when it comes to the eye test, you look at that Detroit Lions football team said that. That's my horse right there.
Pat McAfee
Okay, well, funny you say that. The horse is a lion. They're the only team in the NFL that's top five offense and top five defense. And I think that is notable because at this stage of the year, you know, can you be too good now? Like, you're trying to get better and try to get better, try to get better, but you have to have something that is elite at this stage, I think, for your team to really believe that they can go win a Super Bowl. The Lions on both sides, top five only team in the league this early in the season. How's that make you feel, A.J. obviously, they're dominant. The offense is so efficient, so awesome to watch. It's explosive, it's tactical, it's powerful. Their offensive line has been in the top five for AQ every single week in that. And their defense, top five defense as well, never gets talked about. They lose. Aiden Hutchinson continue to dominate. They lose Branch in the second quarter. He's come out and said, I am sorry to the packers fans for flipping you off. He did the moment. That's not who I want to be. I think that was a great answer in that whole thing. But without him, he's their second best player, probably on defense alongside Joseph. They continue to dominate in there. So I think no credit is really given to the Detroit Lions defense because of how awesome the offense has been and how historic it's been, but they're the only team top five in both. What's that say to you, A.J.
AJ Hawk
I mean, it says that they. They kind of have their identity. They. We know who the Lions are right now. Now, the thing I guess, makes you worry is when you turn on any kind of sports program out there and they're saying, hey, the Detroit Lions are the best team in the NFL. Definitely. People are saying they're the best team in the nfc. Like, that's what you have to worry about. Like, are we. Are we peaking too soon? Which that's not a real thing. Like, you want to win every single game you want to win by as much as possible and you want to play well every game. But I guess people worry, okay, is this sustainable? Can they continue to get better and better as this season goes?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think fans and probably analytics people and us and shit are going to talk about peaking too soon in the locker room. You're trying to peak as fast. We're trying to get to our best ball as fast as possible. So that's not on us that this happened too early. Let's go. Chuck Pagano, obviously, 18 years NFL coach. Can a team peak too early or is that just all kind of fodder?
Chuck Pagano
No, I think you want to find out what you have, what your identity is and then just keep getting better from there. So I don't think so. I think everybody always say, okay, it's going to be this week, it's going to be next week. I think this culture is too good. I think mcdc is too good. You mentioned the offensive top five defense. Numbers wise aren't top five. But you said scoring defense, right? So point differential, they're 13.8, which is number one in the national football bowling. Big difference for this is Aaron Glenn's done a great job on the defensive side. They pick up Zedaria Smith obviously at the trade deadline to make up for that lost pass rush with. With Hutch out last year at this time or last year at the end of the season, they were 29th in red zone defense. Currently they're number four and they're first on third down defense. So when you talk about keeping people out of the, out of the end zone and you're scoring defense going up like that, those are, those are two.
Pat McAfee
Reasons why foxy's got to feel good to have all these things said about your team right now. Feed me all the hype. I do not care. In my lifetime, the Detroit Lions have never been the best team in the NFL. And you know what? I want them to print shirts that say mid season super bowl champions. That's how much I don't care about all of this hype. And I why are you making a shirt? It's a bad idea. Because I want a Super bowl champion. So you're happy where you are hanging a banner? This is like the Lakers winning the halfway.
Connor
You played yourself.
Pat McAfee
We're gonna win this one and we're gonna win one at the end of the year because that's the mcdc culture. I don't care about all the noise. This team's the best in the NFL. They are so much Fun to watch, and I'm gonna enjoy every single week of it. How are they able to keep both their coordinators for this long? I don't love it. How has that happened? Well, how is that Aaron Glenn had job offers, allegedly. Didn't get. Didn't take Ben Johnson. Allegedly. Maybe it is. Maybe it is McDonald.
Ty Schmidt
That's MCDC football, bro.
Pat McAfee
But the fact that they're all committed up there, players, coaches, everybody's bought in.
AJ Hawk
It's like a great place to work. It must be a great place to work. Great place to play. Obviously, when you're keeping coordinators like that and all the players seem to buy in well.
Pat McAfee
And mcdc, you. You talk about a great place to work. It's like he's cultivated that entire, entire thing from day one. Day one. Mcdc has been mcdc. Now, obviously, he had the opportunity to be the interim head coach down at the Dolphins, and he goes over to the Saints, so he's no stranger to the position. But as soon as he gets dropped in there from that opening press conference, I don't think he's changed at all. I don't think he's changed. Obviously, there's been some football decision making. Things that he's evolved from, he learned from, and his team's gotten better, but he's doing up downs. First day of training camp his first year, he's still doing that. It's like he is him. Mcdc is him. Exactly. He has his changed. And they just showed this clip their first season, they were 010 1, him and Jared Goff. And they. They didn't change. They could have moved quarterbacks like they said they were going to. They never did. And just crazy how they went from that to, you know, Super Bowl. Yeah.
Connor
Cried after.
Pat McAfee
Legitimately cried, which I think he would still do.
Gumpy
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
If they won a massive game, I think he would. It's just different expectations now. It's like.
Chuck Pagano
And you saw the deal with David Montgomery, right? When they interviewed him and what he said, said about mcdc before he was getting there, when he was going in there, what were. What were your thoughts? And he mentioned. Okay. That first press conference, you think, okay, is this guy absolutely nuts? Is he a good coach? And he said he's both.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he.
Chuck Pagano
That's our. That's our leader. He is the best football coach I've been around. And he. And he's also a little bit wacky, which is jacked.
Connor
Yeah.
Ernest
Huge.
Pat McAfee
He's absolutely.
Chuck Pagano
He's a big. He's a big human.
Pat McAfee
Huge. How's he keep up with it while he's. I don't know how he gets as much time because he's bigger, seemingly.
AJ Hawk
Probably doesn't sleep. I mean, I would assume he sleeps like an hour.
Gumpy
Yeah, we know he doesn't sleep.
Pat McAfee
What is this? Coffee order.
Connor
Venti.
Pat McAfee
Venti.
Gumpy
Two black eyes.
Pat McAfee
What are those?
Gumpy
Two shots of espresso. And I have about six of those a day, so I don't know what I'm drinking. 180 ounces of coffee and nine espresso shots.
Pat McAfee
What does a normal human do? Not that. How long have you been doing this?
Gumpy
For as long as I can remember, since I really came out of the womb. And that's not even I. 3, 4 tens of chew a day as well. So you tell me, man, how's Applebee's.
Pat McAfee
Going through the roof? Boneless wings are back.
Gumpy
Better than ever, man.
Pat McAfee
Not as good as Pizza Hut.
Connor
Come on.
Gumpy
Nobody out pizzas the hut.
Pat McAfee
That's true, but you're a little bit of a pickle there.
Gumpy
You did, but I think with the Lions, too. Like, everyone always talks about it how, like, you want to be physical and you want to be tough like, it's the NFL. But you see how, like, when you actually have a guy like Dan Campbell and, like, Vrabel, like, those guys are tough guys in real life, and, like, their teams really do embody that physical toughness. And, like, it's just when they play other teams, it's so evident that, oh, this team is not as tough and they're not as physical as they are.
Pat McAfee
So that's something I don't think, like, any actual tough person says. Right. Everybody just kind of understands, like, this is actual tough guy here. This is a real tough guy. Let's go to Coach Harbaugh. He was on a microphone again. We need this to happen more often. He's with the Chargers, obviously. The Chargers are going to be great at football. We think for the entire tenure of Jim Harbaugh being there. He's at the mic again, and AJ I can't wait to get your thoughts on his game strategy and game management.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, the middle. The middle of the season is.
Pat McAfee
It's always critical that way.
Chuck Pagano
Bill Belichick talks about the middle eight in a football game. I mean, there's a middle eight in a season, too. You could break it down that way.
Pat McAfee
Six, seven, eight, nine.
Chuck Pagano
I mean, those are important games. The only joke I know is, why were six afraid of seven?
Pat McAfee
Because seven, eight, nine.
Chuck Pagano
Six, seven, eight, nine.
Pat McAfee
Those are. Those are big games.
Connor
Bars.
AJ Hawk
That's pretty good joke.
Pat McAfee
And then he immediately in his head goes, nailed it. Yep, yep, nailed it. Absolutely nailed it. He is always himself, though. This is exactly like mcdc. It's just like how Vrabe was like, Jim Harbaugh is always Jim Harbaugh and he's won everywhere. Is he going to be able to get the super bowl at Chargers, you think?
Chuck Pagano
Absolutely. And as a player, Absolutely. Joey Ortiz, the gm, they're connected at the hip. They're from the. Yeah, he's going to get it done. But as a player, as an assistant coach, the best play like these type of guys. We're talking about mcdc and Jim Harbaugh, John Harbaugh, like, you know, every day that you walk in the building, what you're getting to the point about, he's been that way since day one presser when he's talking about biting off kneecaps. Jim is Jim. Jim ain't never changed. Who's got it better than us? Nobody.
Jelly Roll
But.
Chuck Pagano
But as a player, you don't want to. You don't want to walk in, hey, Jekyll and Hyde, like, who are we getting today? Are we going to get this today? And he's going to be. Or are we going to get. No, you want a guy that's steady, that upbeat, positive, gives a about you as a player and as a coach. You know, he has a legitimate, you know, caring about you and good at football and good of. And good at football and can lead and can bring people together and get people to buy in.
Pat McAfee
Everybody thinks it's so easy, too, because there's only 32 of them. So everybody thinks there's a plethora of head coaches. You know, what was the number? 600 million, 700 million?
Gumpy
800.
Connor
800.
Pat McAfee
$800 million was being paid out to fired coaches and GMs and GMs around the NFL. It's like, it's not easy to co. It's not easy to have the want to. When it comes to caring about your players and showcasing the empathy. It's not easy to be a leader. Okay. A vocal leader. Have to be a vocal leader. There's people that lead by their actions. Obviously, don't do as I say. Do as I do. Yeah, you can't be that as a head coach. Have to be a vocal leader. You have to have a work ethic that's through the roof and you have to have a good knowledge of football that you can fix your team. And you got to be able to do business and deal with the people that you have to work with every single day, whether it's a gm, the owner, whatever the case is. So it's like so many individual little talents that you have to. Have to be a leader of men. And the fact that mcdc is such a meathead, like, he's a meathead, but the ability to have all that other stuff, like, to be able to do this number whenever you have to, to be able to lift somebody up, to be able to shape a story, a narrative, to be able to come up with a game strategy that everybody buys in and believes to. It's like, there's so many things that come to being a great coach, and I don't think anybody outside of us you can go back and check over seat day one with Motor City Dan Camp. I don't think anybody expected him to be able to have it all. Aj, legitimately, no, they didn't.
AJ Hawk
I mean, the Detroit Lions obviously saw that in when they interviewed him. And I remember my college roommate, Nick Mangold played for the jets forever. He's in the ring of honor there. We played against the jets in Lambo. Not sure what the year. Rex Ryan was the coach, and I talked to Nick after the game. I'm like, how's it going here, man? How do you like? He's like, oh, gosh, we love. We love Rex. We got to win. We want to keep Rex here. I tell these guys, Nate already, he'd already been through a couple coaches, at least one, and he's like, I tell these guys, we want Rex here. You want Rex here. We need to win football games. So, like, when that's the case and everybody wants to win and keep this guy there and wants to continue what you're doing, like, guys will buy in. Guys will do a lot of things. It doesn't always work out, but you have a much better chance than a team that doesn't really enjoy or respect their head coach.
Connor
Well, and Jameson Williams just came out, too, because they asked him about, like, being a distraction, things of that nature. Nice. And he referenced, like, mcdc having his back and everything like that. Like, if to AJ's point to what you guys are all saying, if your coach is that dude, like, that tough son of a. Like, you want to also be a tough son of a. Just because, you know, you, like, almost look up to the guy, you want.
AJ Hawk
Him to like you, you want him to respect you like you, you're like, hey, this guy. This guy's an absolute savage. I got to be a savage for him to respect me. Like, I think that has a trickle down effect.
Pat McAfee
Well, and is that why they say that the team takes on the identity of the coach? Is that why that kind of becomes.
Chuck Pagano
You say it at least once a week on this program that the team takes on the identity of their coach. And you know, to be a leader, you got to be out front and whatever you're willing to ask the players do, you have to do. So if he's going to make them do up, he's down, doing up downs. And plus, you know, it's like, okay, I want to have a beer with that guy. Get somebody that I would love to have, please. Jim Har. Yeah, I'd love to have beers with.
Pat McAfee
I like to smoke.
Chuck Pagano
And then there's some others. And then there's other, there's other guys, right? You say like, I'm not, no, I, I don't, I don't care to have beers with that dude.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
And they're probably not going to work out.
Pat McAfee
Isn't it crazy? That is the football culture. Like that is the, the football culture. And you know, there's different ways to do things, you know, and I think Sean McVeigh is vastly different than MCDC. Would love to have a vodka Sprite with Sean McVeigh.
Connor
No doubt.
Pat McAfee
You know, like would love, would love to do. I think wanting to have a drink with somebody, he's probably a good indicator whether they're going to be a good.
Chuck Pagano
Do you guys know who Joe Cap was?
Connor
Yeah, Joey Cap.
Pat McAfee
Out of Cal.
Chuck Pagano
Right out of the Cal. Right. He was a head coach at Cal. Do you mind if I real quick tell the.
Pat McAfee
Happy birthday, Joey Cap, is it?
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, it's not his birthday. Don't you start.
Pat McAfee
Good one, coach. So Joe Scum.
Chuck Pagano
I worked with this guy, John Goff. He was the defensive quarter of Boise State. My first job there. We shared an office together. He was telling me a story how he was interviewing with Joe Capp for a job at Cal at the time. This is years before Boise State. So he goes, goes in Joe Capp's office, just got to the facility, gonna start the inter. Meet the head coach, right? A little chit chat. Two minutes later he says, hey, did you bring your workout gear? Coach Goff said, yeah, I got workout gear. He go, go get changed. Meet me in the gym downstairs. One on one basketball for like an hour and a half with Joe, with Joe Cap. Just want to see, just wanted to see if he, what his competitive nature was.
Pat McAfee
That's awesome. That is, that's like in these combine meetings where some teams Are doing like rock, paper, scissors or they got a little mini hoop or whatever.
Connor
Sirianni.
Pat McAfee
It's a good place to see how somebody performs there. I didn't know that was happening in coaching interviews, though.
Chuck Pagano
That was a while ago. But he took right to the hoop, right to the basketball. And he. And John's a. John's a dog. He was a great coach and a great bat. He just, he fought his ass off for hour and a half. Yeah, I got the job.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I thought he called e fouls and call any fouls out the shit out of him a couple times. Let him know I'm not about it.
Connor
Thought he was going to say like, hey, you drive here, Leave your keys. We're going to the bar.
Pat McAfee
Let's go have a beer. You got your workout close? Yeah. Good. We're drinking in them.
Connor
Put them on.
Pat McAfee
Josh Allen, obviously will be joining our show in about an hour or so after their practice ends. So it could be 2:30, could be 2:40, could be 2:20, depending upon how their day is. They got a lot to prepare for.
Connor
Yes, they do.
Pat McAfee
This weekend, two QBs. They got the Indianapolis Colts here at the Loud House. Josh Allen is talking about Joe Flacco and his respect for him that he has.
Jelly Roll
He's an absolute baller. He throws.
Pat McAfee
Thank you.
Jelly Roll
One of the prettiest balls you'll ever see. I got the chance to spend a little bit of time with him in Tahoe at the golf tournament this last year and. And he's an awesome guy too. So he's been around some of my friends, whether it was in New York with Sam or Mike. So I've heard a lot of good stories, a lot of good things about him. And I got to see it firsthand in Tahoe. So I got a lot of respect for him and his game. So super bowl winning quarterback, that's, you know, he's one of the. One of the ones. He's a fantastic player, but an even better person.
Pat McAfee
He is one of the ones.
Connor
Yeah, truly.
Chuck Pagano
He's our quarterback.
AJ Hawk
You guys back on. You back on board?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I was never off, but I am certainly still. There was a waffle, very. The waffle was, hey, whatever decision you got going forward, you do what you got to do. With that being said, Joey Flack being all the way back because Josh Allen is pointing out some things that I maybe had forgotten about. He is one of the ones. Any. He won a Super bowl, people forget about that. He plays great football. Brian Flores, defense can do that to a lot of People, Absolutely.
Chuck Pagano
I mean, they ran into a buzzsaw that's.
Pat McAfee
That's on prime time. Jamie Erdog was on the.
AJ Hawk
Pre programmed.
Pat McAfee
Huh?
AJ Hawk
That's pre programmed, right? They're not actually.
Ty Schmidt
The hell's he talking about?
Pat McAfee
Did you not see old buddy over there in England whenever they did it.
Connor
Jared Allen.
AJ Hawk
Is it like the old. You know, what they were doing in the cold stadium? Are they pumping that in?
Pat McAfee
No, no. What are you talking about? What are we even saying here?
Connor
What do you mean they did pump in. In the old cold stadium?
Pat McAfee
Just. No, they did it.
AJ Hawk
The RCA Dome. Yes.
Pat McAfee
Oh, the original hot ass brother. Okay, so I'm sorry you guys couldn't handle it. You thought it was fake. Pump it, brother. This is Hoosier hysteria. Whenever they're watching Indianapolis Colts, you're saying they're pushing a button instead of actually not them.
AJ Hawk
Somebody up top is pressing the button, but they're saying, hey, yeah, blow into that horn. It'll.
Ernest
It'll.
AJ Hawk
It'll go. You make it. Make sure you give it a good one.
Pat McAfee
My big worry about when other people are controlling it. You got to be in the same page, you know, because if I'm putting my mouth down on that thing and I'm. And there's no noise. I just gave you my best visual blow.
Gumpy
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
So I'm gonna need you to hit that. And then if you hit it early, everybody knows it's full gimmick. I'm not doing shit. You make me look like clown.
Connor
It's bullshit.
Pat McAfee
So with that being said, I think daily. It's real.
Connor
It's real.
Pat McAfee
I think they get practice too. They got to do the lip thing. Practice through it all. Trumpet, That's a real hard place to play, especially in the second half. Colts been in there a couple different times. Now with a lead at halftime. Once by 33, once by 7 most recently and they lose in the second half both times. This Colt seems to have a chance. Chuck, you follow very closely. You do the Chuck. Check in with Wish TV and Anthony Calhoun every single Sunday. It is a must watch segment here on local Indianapolis sports coverage. You follow the team closely. How do we feel about Joey Flack being all the way back?
Chuck Pagano
Still feel good.
Pat McAfee
I mean, we got time.
Chuck Pagano
The defense is getting better too much. DeForest Buckner's back. They're going to get some other guys back. Yeah, I. Yeah. They still got John Taylor, right? He's not yards last week again. The defense for Minnesota is pretty good. They got really good players. They got a really good.
Pat McAfee
What if we don't win anything, we're going to play good defense.
Chuck Pagano
That's why we're going to find out. This is the week. We got to get this done. They got to get this done.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Josh Allen, I can't believe he's able to find time to come stop by today, especially with everything he's got, with what this Colts team is going to be able to do. And I'm sure he's probably not even sleeping. He's probably just like McD because he knows Loud House is coming. Ain't that the case?
Connor
Yeah. Well, I saw some people say, yeah, the reason he can stop by is because they're playing the Indianapolis Colts and he's got plenty of time.
Pat McAfee
Oh, that was veteran muscle rg.
Connor
And that was a great tweet. That was a great tweet. It was a great point. But, I mean, they better get it going this week because all of a sudden gets real slippery after the Bills and this one's in the Lothouse. But I know there's. There's a tough stretch of games.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we got the jets and the Lions. That's all.
Connor
I mean, you can chop one of those up, you know, you don't have to play the Lions. That's a loss. You know, let's just let that one be.
Pat McAfee
See, that's what I'm talking. We can't have that type of.
Connor
But it is.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but you're a citizen of the city. I need that.
Connor
And I need them to win because, like, we, like, we all know they need to win two Super Bowls in the next four years. So I better get it going right now.
Pat McAfee
They are going to get going right now. Speaking of going right now, there's a guy that's not going right now, and he's the highest paid quarterback in the league. Dak Prescott's out. And when you see the injury happen on Sunday and you see nobody around him, it's the third quarter, so he's warm and you see his facial reaction after something clearly happens to his leg. I didn't know it was his hamstring. I thought maybe it was going to be his groin or like his hip flexor pop in there because of the torque. But it's like that is his immediate reaction. He knows something. You're warm, there's no contact. And it's while something explosive is happening for his face to react the way it is, something really happened, you know, and now it's come out that he has a partially torn hamstring on this particular rep going to be out for at least four weeks, obviously with ir. But this is, this is very. This is a tough injury. Anytime you. You partially tear a muscle, especially one that's very important to your profession in the middle of the season, not great news at all. And that thing can linger a little bit too, if it doesn't get re. Full recovery. Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
And depending on how they do, I can really linger. And what do you say?
Connor
What's that mean?
Pat McAfee
He's getting paint.
Chuck Pagano
I mean, they're not going to rush him back, especially with a hamstring, you know?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I don't think so.
AJ Hawk
Four weeks would be nuts if it's partially torn off the bone. Four coming back in four weeks would be crazy.
Connor
Four weeks from now, they might just be done too. Like that's realistically.
Pat McAfee
Highest paid guy.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, man.
Connor
Are you going to risk it?
Pat McAfee
Risk it or do. Are you going to let him just. What, healthy scratch?
Connor
Yeah, just call it 3 and 9.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. That's a. That's a.
Chuck Pagano
You know, the doctors, you defer to the doctors and if they say, no, he's not ready, he's not ready.
Pat McAfee
He's that big cowboy hat guy. Yeah, that big cowboy hat.
Chuck Pagano
Been there a long time.
Pat McAfee
Long time. He is a cowboy. He is a cowboy. He's the. He's the doctor cowboy. He is. He's been there a long time. Running out on the field, hat always looks pristine, proper in the entirety of it all. But whenever you see an on contact, you see his. I think his face was the big giveaway for. For me, it was like he's in real pain. You don't just get. Your body doesn't just get in real pain when it's in that greater shape, when it's already warmed up. Unless something bad happened and that does happen, aj, that ends up happening.
AJ Hawk
No. Yeah. You could see, man, I bet it felt like. Probably felt like got kicked back there or something. But yeah, you can see his face. There's. Man, I don't know. I feel for this whole Dallas team, everything going on there. Good luck. It can't be a great situation walking in there day in and day out.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but if you're walking in there for a tour, it's probably a good time.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And they said that since the talking of the tour. The tour originally only made like 10 million a year. Only in the facility tours. Jerry said it's been great marketing. Everybody talking about how bad of an idea it is. All Cowboys fans think is how great the access is. That shit's Going through the roof. We actually are about planning to make 12 and a half to $13 million this year with tours and. Wait, it's a shit show. I tell them to go walk by Mike McCarthy's office. We do two trips around. Let's see how the hot seats feeling over there. Mike, go ahead and let the Cowboys fans know. The ones who are wearing stars on their chest and their hats and their face, go ahead and walk them by and make sure our tour guide says, hey, this guy might not be here next week. Get a last look at him. This is like an artifact here. This could be his last chance. Ever seen in his office. Now let's go over to the weight room here. Got a lot less guys, got a lot of injured guys. Because if you look to your left, that's training room. Dak Prescott's in there. That's our song. We paid him the most. Let's go see if he's working his ass off. Oh, he is. Okay. How's that going on defensive side? Well, here's a podcast running Michael Parson. Here's Mike actually talking with Trayvon Diggs about Deez Nuts and everything else going on. And now let's go into the locker room. Look at the locker room there. Nobody's happy here.
Connor
Where's Zeke?
Pat McAfee
Nobody's. And Zeke. Zeke. Zeke's in the corner with his headphones on. We don't know what's going on over there, but you can certainly take a walk past there. Let's go out to the practice facility. They'll actually give you a script of what plays they're working on and what the plays are. That's. That's the new thing we've added this year, is actually giving away the plays to those who pay for the tour. It's like, will they ever be able to win? Are they cursed? Could be.
Connor
Massive chance.
Pat McAfee
That is the. You know, the Jets. We all assume there is some sort of curse. I did not believe in it. I didn't think it was possible. Jets fans said it's a real thing. And then the four plays thing, and then the way this. This year has gone thus far. Now, granted, that curse can be broken. All good curses can be broken. It happened in Detroit whenever they swam in whiskey.
Connor
Yeah, that's right.
Pat McAfee
Ain't that what happened? Yes, exactly. It was Peyton Manning and Jeff Daniel. Jeff Daniel, that guy from Dumb and Dumber. Phenomenal job now. Yep.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, sure.
Pat McAfee
Phenomenal. They swam, took a bath in whiskey. The Bobby Lane curse, it was called. Yeah. Not the Calvin Johnson curse, because they didn't want to bring that up yet again. Right. Yeah. We kind of robbed the guy. They fixed that one too, though. Yes. It feels like you can fix a curse. I don't know if the jets have. Maybe they have Cowboys. I don't know if they can. This feels like an actual curse.
Ty Schmidt
I thought they did.
Ernest
They had.
Ty Schmidt
Because they had the Jimmy Johnson curse. But they. They kind of rectified that. Was that last year they put him in the ring of honor or whatever.
Chuck Pagano
Whatever it was for Jimmy, a hundred years too late.
Pat McAfee
That's.
Connor
Well and Troy.
Chuck Pagano
So you just ain't going to. Just because you throw them in there.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Chuck Pagano
So maybe that person be gone. No.
Ty Schmidt
Maybe it's a Jimmy Johnson.
Chuck Pagano
You got to come up with something else. You don't do that.
Pat McAfee
I think the facility tours are football God saying that might be a curse. You're lucky to be in the NFL and what you're opening your building up to. Why would you. Yeah.
Connor
See it with Cleveland and Baker right now. They let Baker go after finally win a playoff game after X amount.
Pat McAfee
Well, we're gonna actually get you excited. Go ahead and spend the most amount of money.
Chuck Pagano
You talk about karma all the time. It's real.
Pat McAfee
The universe is a real thing. God, universe, however you want to believe it's a real thing. You put out. Good. Good normally happens. You start, you know, kind of like smacking these things in the face a little bit. Like, hey, Cleveland Browns, you get a playoff win against the Steelers. Pittsburgh says, you hate Pittsburgh.
Connor
On the road.
Pat McAfee
On the road, you playoff. Never win playoff games. You guys won't even drink it. You're completely defeated multiple times. Like this is. And they're like, nah, we don't like it though. Yeah. Odell, we'll let you go if we understand this place sucks. And we're gonna get this guy out of here. He has a bad shoulder. We're gonna have him throw it 60 times, make him look bad so he can leave. And then all of a sudden we're gonna pay the most amount of money in the history of football for a quarterback. And obviously that's not going to work out. We're going to build your hope up and then we're going to slam it down the Cowboys. I wonder if. Because the way they treat it, if the football gods are looking down, going, we're going to build up hope every single year. There's going to be big old just so we can do it again. Maybe Stephen A. And everybody that has these takes is right. Maybe they understand the curse A little bit more than me. Because that injury to Dak should not happen to a professional athlete, especially somebody that's in as good a shape as Dak Prescott is, especially as somebody that has done that motion, that hitch, that set, that throw. Remember, he does the whole. He. This is why this. That's why this thing even started, is because of him. So you're talking to me. You're telling me a fully warm Dak Prescott has a torn hamstring off the bone just because of a simple throw? Like, it's like, crazy. That doesn't. That doesn't make sense to me. Medically, it doesn't make sense to me. And for a team, it doesn't make sense to me, especially with all the shit they have currently on the line.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, like, and I watched, like, the plays before. It doesn't seem like it happened during a play before. From what I see, like, just for. Meant to happen right there.
Chuck Pagano
That's like, had he been scrambling around him before long runs or anything?
AJ Hawk
It had to be hanging on. Like, it had to be, you know, on the verge or something.
Gumpy
Well, and ultimately it doesn't matter because, like, they're not a playoff team either way, you know, so it's like, you talk about them being cursed, but ultimately, like, Jerry's a great businessman, but, like, he can put a good team together on paper, but he hasn't put together a good enough team to win in the playoffs. Like, look at last year, everyone was saying, hey, this is the year. This is year. But there was, like, a glaring weakness the entire time. And then they play the packers at home in the playoffs and get their ass is be like. So really, you know, we don't know.
Pat McAfee
What Cooper's going to do, so let's not make any, you know, or Trey Lance, whoever's.
Gumpy
You know, they got Cooper Kush balls.
Pat McAfee
Cooper Kush balls.
Gumpy
He does.
Pat McAfee
That's not Cooper mid for a reason, bro.
Gumpy
Washington 72, though, and, you know, five and one.
Chuck Pagano
Five and one in the starts.
Pat McAfee
Cooper Kush.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
What if he goes on a run?
Gumpy
Okay. Does he play middle linebacker or DN, too? Because their defense can't stop the run.
Pat McAfee
Well, Zimmer said. Zimmer say that was.
Connor
Man, that's a tough scheme.
Gumpy
I gotta.
Chuck Pagano
That was. That was.
AJ Hawk
So he's a bit frustrated.
Chuck Pagano
I feel like, you know, how much he wanted just to rip everybody's face off right there.
Pat McAfee
The. The question. And also everybody on the defense. Yep. Let's. Let's break it down. Okay. If it's my proud Of Zim. You're proud of him?
Chuck Pagano
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Send him a text, say, good composure.
Chuck Pagano
Up there, and awesome. Great answer, man.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if it's a schemer, if it's been something that's been happening literally since peewee football. Yeah, you got that guy. You got that guy. You got that guy. Well, they're in a bunch. We'll figure it the out.
Chuck Pagano
So we had jam the middle, we had lock, limbo, we had uno, we had trio. You got. You got some difference. You get on different levels.
Pat McAfee
You're saying Sam didn't teach it or what?
Chuck Pagano
I'm pretty sure that those things were talked about.
Connor
Yeah, but when he teaches it, do they just say, like, shut up, old man. We don't want to hear it because he's too old? Because that's what people are saying.
Pat McAfee
That is what people are saying. Saying on here and saying, he's too old.
Connor
Shut up, old man.
Pat McAfee
But Vic Fangio, that was happening to him last year in Miami. Allegedly. He goes up to Philadelphia now. What's happening?
Chuck Pagano
Number three defense in the. In the league right now?
Connor
Well, they're saying those corners have something to do with that.
Pat McAfee
Well, f over. I ain't scared of that. Mike Zimmer is just sitting there at that thing. It was, man. Thanks. Yep. And then just sits in it. I like that because that's an uncomfortable room.
Gumpy
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
So you just kind of sitting speaking in. Speaking of uncomfortable, we started a segment last week.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, did we?
Pat McAfee
You want to talk about being uncomfortable? Be on the wrong side of the truck. Ladies and gentlemen, our friends at ram trucks said, you know what? The world needs to enjoy our trucks a little bit more. Why don't you figure out a way to give one away? I said, you know what? You got it. Well, we came up with hashtag ram trucks. It sounds like 2,500 ponies all roaring at the same time going, and Obviously, I know 2500 heavy duty does not mean 2500 ponies under the hood. If you just want to enjoy life and luxury while riding around in a badass truck, the 2500 heavy duty rebel Ram is for you. Now, how do you go ahead and enter into the hashtag Ram truck contest to win this said beautiful piece of machinery? Well, what happens is college football fans watch their team play every single weekend. And if there is a Ram trucked play, all you gotta do is tweet on X ramtrucknameoftheplayer in the time in which the game happened. Don't rip the clips. Don't want you stealing stuff. Don't want to get taken down. We want all entries this week. A lot more entries than last week. Hopefully going forward that'll continue. Has to be a legal play. Okay. Has to be a legal play. Has to be a human as well. Some people turn this particular play in from the Michigan Oregon game and we wanted to say you get the concept, but this does not count because it wasn't a player, you see, it was a. That is not. That is not a hashtag Ram truck entry. Okay? I do appreciate people thinking it's possible because boom. That's the power of a Ram truck right there. And Orgy felt that right to his stardom. Okay? So that is not an entry. It has to be a play. That is a legal. So let's go to this week's finalist that will inevitably take on last week's champion out of mountain. First up, the Georgia Ram dog. This is Daniel Harris. Georgia corner flag was thrown but then picked up because he led with his shoulder, not his helmet. That was a boom Ram truck play. That's a big game down there. Georgia, Florida setting the tone. That's Georgia. Georgia Bulldog Daniel Harris. Okay, so if you like that one in the poll below, just go ahead and vote for the Georgia Ram dog play. What's the second play? Well, it's from Texas A and M. This is called the Texas O, R A and M truck. Listen to that sound. That's not us adding sound. Those are pads crashing. That's a play getting blown up. God, both of them. Looks like he's playing billiards. That is an absolute dog. Shamar Stewart, defensive end from Texas A and M. That's a big time shot. That's a hashtag Ram play. And maybe he goes on to be the last champion standing at the end of the season and winning that 2500 heavy duty or a rebel Ram, not only is it beautiful, it's powerful, it's luxurious, it's Canadian convenient and it'll get you wherever you need to be. It is diesel powered, so you're operating a little bit differently, but it is Nice and smooth rides like you're on the clouds. And somehow has more power than anything you're riding next to. And you're eye to eye with 18 wheelers. Yeah.
Connor
Semis.
Pat McAfee
You're looking over, hey, how do you do? How do you do? How do you do?
Connor
Do it?
Pat McAfee
How do you do? And they look over and go. And then we remember right away. It is a beautiful truck. Will one of those two win or will the third entry from this week out of South Carolina State, the quarterback, the Ram Truck stick, Eric Phoenix. Boom. From South Carolina. Boom. From South Carolina State. That is a Ram Truck. No flag was thrown. That means it's good. Those are the three finalists from this past week. They will have to take on the Weston Arthur Mount Union. Boom. The champion from last loses his helmet. You don't get to see that a lot. It is a very worthy champion. Weston Arthur will carry over from last week. He's the current champ. We will put a poll up on X vote for the one that deserves to win the Ram Truck. The player will win the Ram Truck at the end of the season. Who is the champion. And if you see a play that needs to be in the Ram Truck segment, go ahead and put a tweet on X utilizing that hashtag, what player it is when it happened in the game. We'll go through and find it. And AJ These have been fun to catch up on.
AJ Hawk
I mean, how do you. I don't know. There's every single one of them I could vote for. That's the thing. I'm curious to see how it all plays out and what people vote for.
Pat McAfee
All legal hits, too, which is a nice reminder to everybody. Just like this Ram Truck. Oh, football is physical. Yeah. Always. You gotta be durable. And you know what? If you are, you live a nice, luxurious lifestyle, which is exactly what these Ram Trucks have on the inside. You could win a rebel ram. Congrats to all the contenders this week. Go on to X and get your vote in. And you know, if the Mountain Union Boom carries, I think everybody would understand. But there's some worthy, competent competition this week. Yeah. That poll will run for 24 hours. Now, ladies and gentlemen, it is time to be joined by a man who needs no introduction, but we might as well give him one, right?
Gumpy
Yeah, why not?
Connor
Have to.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, he's been Grammy nominated. He's won every award under the sun tonight. He is rocking Indianapolis. We're so thankful he has come through Indiana, by the way. We get everybody here. Indiana's great place.
Ernest
It's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, Jelly Roll. Oh, yeah. I see you playing. I see you playing.
AJ Hawk
I see you playing buckets.
Pat McAfee
How you doing?
Connor
Great shoes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Gumpy
Yes.
Connor
Great shoes.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Hey, dude, that's what those are. Those are like the new. The new. What were the toms. Were the old shoes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Connor
Like the vans, the old school.
Pat McAfee
Those are, like, the comfy shoes.
Ernest
Yeah, dude, these are. We sent y'all a pair, right? Or did I blow it?
Pat McAfee
I think you blew it.
Connor
I blew it.
Ernest
Okay, they're coming.
Pat McAfee
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Ernest
What's up, gang?
Pat McAfee
How we doing, man?
Ernest
Dude, I'm so glad to finally. Y'all know how big of a fan I am, so to actually be in the building with y'all, this is huge. The Thunder Dome, by the way.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Ernest
My whole crew is here. I brought Ernest with me.
Pat McAfee
Ernest is a genius.
Ernest
Shabuzi overslept or he came. I was gonna bring the whole tour. They were so excited. But we were in there watching Mark David, my inner monitor, watches y'all every day from. From side stage. And we were like little kids. You were talking about the ram, and we could see it out the window.
Pat McAfee
It's pretty nice.
Ernest
And we were like, he's not just talking. We're looking at this ram. Dude, it makes me want to put on some pads.
Pat McAfee
Hey, listen, from what you did at WWE, you know, I think we got 100 faith. Can't wait to see. Last time we chatted with you, you said you're on a journey into getting into shape, too. I think that was a big thing. You want to live a little bit longer now? We've been seeing clips coming out of tour. You playing hoops, nasty dishes. Yeah, we're talking no look passes, getting after it. You said you got the bug in wwe. How are you doing? Are you.
Ernest
Man, I'm great. I'm down like 120 now.
Pat McAfee
Let's go.
Ernest
It's crazy, Pat.
Pat McAfee
Jelly. Lose. Enroll. Yes.
Ernest
Lose, dog. I'm down probably 80, 90, 80 something. Since we just seen each other at SummerSlam. 60 or 70, I've been kicking ass on this tour. I brought out a nutritionist. His name's Ian Larios. He's worked with Bilal, Muhammad, Israel, Adesanya. I kind of took him from being a UFC fan, and he's been really helping me. We've been shooting basketball, we've been walking, we've been working. It's like, it's so cool, Pat, because my culture on tour used to revolve around cocaine and Alcohol.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, sure.
Ernest
Now we're all. Yeah, fair, right? But now we're all in our late 30s and 40s, so now we're, like, shooting old men basketball and, like, having lattes for trying to live. Yeah, dude, we're living, man. It's cool. It's been. It's been really cool to see the boys rally behind me, too.
Pat McAfee
You and I have a lot in common, I think, with, you know, everything in life now. Not everything, obviously. You have a vastly different story than me, but I didn't think I was going to live past 30. I thought I was going to run myself into the ground and was trying, I think, on numerous occasions to do that. Now that I get older, I'm trying to take care of myself. Isn't it interesting how perspective changes? And for you, I think your perspective changing has changed your music as well. And I think a lot of people are relating to your shit right now.
Ernest
Yes, sir.
Pat McAfee
This beautifully broken tour, you've described it as like, therapy or whatever. It's going until October 27th. You're selling out every single arena with your stories and your perspective. How does it feel to have this fan base, and how does it feel to be you in front of these people and then be appreciative?
Ernest
I think that's the coolest part of all this, Pat, is that, like, we have been able to build this with never compromising our message. Like, when I had the number one album in the country, that meant a lot to me because I had a number one album talking about mental health, talking about drug addiction, talking about a young lady being sexually assaulted. Like, I'm writing real shit for real people. That stuff normally doesn't make it in the mainstream. You know what I mean? So, like, the fact that I've somehow got to be the voice for those that have often been voiceless for so long, and these arenas, dude, this is church for people that have never been to church, man. I know y'all got an early day tomorrow, boys, but I'm telling you, you gotta swing by the game bridge. It's special, man.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, absolutely. Bengals Ravens tonight, too, which is a big game, but definitely have to come. Show my respect and my love for you coming through Indiana. Very, very thankful you're coming through here legitimately. We. Anybody that stops through this city, I hope they treat you right, and I hope the crowd goes bananas with you tonight. Now, the album does become number one album. You just mentioned it right there. There's a little drama.
Ernest
There's a little drama.
Pat McAfee
Hey, I've been waiting to come talk.
Ernest
To y'all about the drama.
Pat McAfee
So I need.
Ernest
I wanted to come to a safe place to talk about this.
Pat McAfee
Okay. You're in Indiana. You're in Thunderbolt. Incredibly safe. The. I was following along, and I hit you up in the middle of it because I was reading some of the shit you were posting. I'm like, hey, don't let any of this shit get you down. Please do not let any of this shit get you down legitimately, because we're fans of yours, and I think your story is one that people are going to tell, and there's going to be a lot of hope for people whenever they're kids or teenagers, if things aren't going right, you can still make it. You can do this. So I am a big proponent of the fucking jelly roll success train. So when I was seeing what you were saying, I was not happy about it. I was like, yo, let's go. Let's move forward. We need you out here. What did happen with the album, man?
Ernest
First of all, that meant a lot. You reaching out. You don't know, because I thought about it. In hindsight, y'all understand that what happened to me more than anybody is, like, when y'all went to espn, all of a sudden, y'all went from this kind of, like, really big, cool cult thing to, like, a lot of people that didn't know you, knew you all of a sudden and had an opinion about you and didn't know you.
Pat McAfee
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Ernest
And y'all handled it better than me because, you know, I hate to be dishonest, Pat. It hurt my feelings. I was just like, yo, like, I don't even. Y'all don't even know me. Like, I tweet. This is the first tweet of mine you've ever seen. And I said the first tweet, I said, I've seen some slimy stuff in the music business this week. Don't worry, I'll expose it later, because my people know that whenever I sit down, I'll talk about it.
Pat McAfee
I don't.
Ernest
I'm honest. In hindsight, the word expose was a little. Maybe a little dramatic. Right?
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Ernest
But the word slimy wasn't. And the way people responded to the comments was, like, I said satanic.
Pat McAfee
Oh, buddy.
Ernest
Like, I started getting drawn into, like, weird stuff that, like, made me feel weird, you know? Like, because, you know, I'm a man of faith. I was like, man, y'all really don't know me if you think I would even. Yeah, Satan runs from the Name? I say, yeah. You know, that's all I'm gonna say. I say one name and Satan scatters. You know what I mean?
Connor
I'm not even.
Ernest
You know, I don't worry about nobody touching my butt or no Illuminati.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Yes. I just got dropped into this the other day. I was not. I was, like, very offended. Yeah. I was like, hey, do some research on who I am and how I feel about these people. But I think music world, Tony, it's very heightened.
Ernest
It's very heightened. I didn't real. So it's like that happened. And then I was like. And then I doubled down like a real dumbass, and I go, you know what? I'm getting off to X. Y'all are mean to me.
Pat McAfee
I was so mad at you. I'm like, you let these people win. You let these people beat you. That ain't your story, man. You persevere in this entire thing. You're back on social.
Ernest
Yeah, I'm back on. Well, I'm getting back. You know, my thing about phones are. Is that I go six months without a phone anyways. I'm only on a phone during tour cycle.
Pat McAfee
Nice.
Ernest
As soon as I go home, I'll throw this thing in the river and I'll be phoneless for, like four or five months, and I'll start fresh again. It's like my routine every day.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so let's talk about the sliminess of the music industry. You're not a saint worshipper, which is good news.
Ernest
Yeah, thank you. I'm glad I got to clear that up.
Pat McAfee
We will say we all. I was thrown into this last week because I dressed up as a panda. Because he doesn't think pandas are real. I know I got thrown right in this conversation. We agree that these people exist out there with, like, completely understand. They exist just, like, do some research, I think, until you start just throwing shit at people. Because I felt a certain way about it. I'm like, man, you guys, you have no idea. You're saying some very, very serious things about me right now that I don't appreciate. You felt the same way. What was the slimy music stuff that you.
Ernest
I'll get there, too. Let me touch on this, too. Is that I'm not. I'm asking for a little grace from everybody to realize that. I know that we know my story now, but it's still a big transition for me. Like, I've been spent most of my life in a place where if you spit in the sink, you would get stabbed. You know what I mean? So you go from that to a world where people accuse you of being a Satan worshiper on Twitter for no reason. You're just like, yo, I'm from a whole different space. Like, this happened at a gas station. You'd sue me.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ernest
You know what I mean? It would end in a lawsuit.
Pat McAfee
Smaller. It's not a lot of people. It is. Everybody is Jelly Roll fans. There is always going to be those people. You know that you're a public star now. That is just how it's going to go. And I think we're all learning together through this all, which is another reason why I think we have so much respect for you. But you end up with the number one album.
Ernest
I did. And I won't say the artist's name because I know that a lot of artists are disconnected from what's happening in the business. Because I became as an independent artist like y'all became as an independent media show. We're a little more hands on with what's happening behind the scenes. So I'm kind of keeping up with stuff. And my manager just sits me down. He goes, look, man, I didn't want you to ever get in a situation where you was aware of what happens when you start getting in these conversations for number one albums. Because it's just real dirty business. Like, just old school, like dirty business. And there was an artist that looked like hits double daily projected they wasn't even going to be within 50, 60,000 albums of me and Rod Wave. And then Thursday night, before the Friday count ends, 40,000 albums. Third party aggregated site.
Pat McAfee
That fast. Okay.
Ernest
And you're looking and you're just like, yo, that's just. It just.
Pat McAfee
That's slimy. Slimy? Yeah.
Ernest
I used a great term, right? I'm like, that's slimy. Now Luminate, who is in charge of counting record sales, rejected these sales, which is how I ended up with the number one album.
Pat McAfee
Got it. Okay. So.
Ernest
So that's the truth. And. And here's the real truth. While we're doing inside baseball, as far as I'm concerned, I want to congratulate Rod Wave on having the number one album because he was streamed more than me. And the other two artists almost combined in consumption that first week. But we sold more records because we still got a traditional fan base that'll go to Walmart, Target, you know what I mean? But that was. I seen so much in it that it just made me look at it different.
Pat McAfee
Like, bummed you out.
Ernest
It bummed me out. A little bit. And it's cool. You know, Joe Rogan was the one who was giving me the heads up about it because I was talking to him about on his show right before the album went out, he said, jelly, don't stare at the sun, man, fuck that number one. You're Jelly Roll. Don't even count on that. Like that number one. And then I seen the slimy happen and I hit jaws like, you're right, dog, I'm never staring.
Pat McAfee
I can't care about it. I do care about it. But having a number one album is obviously big for your legacy. It's just like in football. Like the media will vote on all pro. And sometimes these people have no idea what they're talking about. And people say, well, don't care about it. Don't care about it. It's like, well, when you go to the hall of Fame, they're gonna mention that whenever you're there talking about Jelly Roll's career, they're gonna say how many number one albums you have, how everything it is. So I could see how you get upset, especially with how hard you work on. It's how personal.
Ernest
And the fans, like, I thought. I thought we deserved it. Like my audience, I felt like we kind of earned that. I wanted to be able to say that we had a number one album without having a party record. You know what I mean? Like, we didn't have anything. Like we stayed all the way true to who Jelly roll is. It's 20 something songs of therapeutic music. It's all the Way me.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, well, it worked out.
Ernest
I did have the number one album. We had the number one album and we're proud of it.
Pat McAfee
It all works out the end, brother. We just talk about universe and God and everything in karma. I mean, that's just a matter of fact. Connor has a question for you.
Connor
Yes, Jelly. I saw. You know, when you're going to these cities, obviously you're playing basketball. Pat mentioned then you were also like handing out food, offering stuff up to people. How often are you doing like that? And when you do go to the cities, are you experiencing them? Are you like going out, trying to see all the spots or like, what's kind of your routine when you get to some of these cities?
Ernest
Great question, man. When I first started doing this, we went to all the spots because we were like young and partying and living in the van. So we'd go find all the local bars and like, we just burned stuff down. Now it's just more about being of service. So, like, I'M gonna leave here right now and I'm gonna go to the local juvenile in the Pendleton prison right now and go sing songs for them before today. It's funny because these clips are starting to come out viral now. And I'm like, what's funny about it is my crew is like, we've been doing this for three years, four days a week.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they got more phones in jail. The tech in jail has been somehow upped a little bit.
Ernest
Based on my faith, I believe that I try to do three things as a service that I believe that, you know what my higher power would want me to do? It's jails and homeless people are at the very top of the three, you know what I mean? So I try to try to rotate the jails and try to go feed the hungry.
Pat McAfee
Well, that's very kind of you. We continue on ESPN plus. I don't know if I got it out there.
Connor
It's close.
Pat McAfee
Very close. It was a perfect X my year. That was professional of you.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
So whenever you go into these jails, obviously. And do you still have. Obviously you have connections in our world still, but, like, when you walk in there, everybody knows who Jelly roll is.
Ernest
I assume for the most part, sometimes it's cool. Like this juvenile I'm going to go to today won't have a clue. It's going to be awesome. Like, when I go into them juvenile facilities, those kids have no clue because they're not. I'm not. They're. They're not looking for me musically, you know what I mean? They might know who I am. So it's really cool. But most of the jails we go to, people know us now.
Pat McAfee
You look so cool with the thing. Yeah. As you've seen here, you know, here's you getting after it here with the crew.
Ernest
Wait till I get another 100 pounds down pat.
Pat McAfee
Dude, you're gonna be ripped. Are we gonna jacked up?
Ernest
So my goal now is to get under some weights.
Pat McAfee
Look at you. Look at that. Yeah.
Ernest
Oh, this is awesome. Hey, yo, do y'all know the story of this jail? If I told you, y'all see this on the Internet? That's cool. I want to talk about this. I haven't got talk about it.
Pat McAfee
First of all, how long. How many years were did you spend in jail?
Ernest
Probably eight and a half or nine.
Pat McAfee
How many juvie? How many?
Ernest
Probably three in juvenile, six in adult.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so a lot of experience in both.
Ernest
Yeah, Yeah, a lot of experience in both.
Pat McAfee
Drugs mostly, right?
Ernest
Mostly drugs. One robbery case, which Is. Which is the one I'm the least proud of, obviously.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it happens. Hey, you change.
Ernest
I was 15 when that happened, too. This. This is in Chesterfield, Missouri, not Ms. Chesterfield, Virginia. This is called the HART program. Sheriff Leonard started this program. There's four sheriffs in America that are just really kicking ass, if you ask me. Sheriff Swanson in Flint, Michigan. Sheriff Leonard up here, obviously. Sheriff Darren hall down in Nashville, Tennessee. And there's a sheriff in Little Rock that's really forward thinking about, like, recidivism rates going down. This program has. First of all, it's the only program in America that they will allow you to come in from the streets without a crime. You can literally just show up. Like, I want. I'm tired, I'm homeless, I'm sick, I'm hurt.
Pat McAfee
Got it.
Ernest
Give me a fresh start. It's like rehab for free. Like that. County just agrees to bring them in, and they've started this program. They do therapy, they do job trade stuff. It's like a two to three, five year program. There's inmates that's been in there for years, and then their recidivism's low. So when I go in there, I sing for them every time. And this time they had a couple of guys that were so good. I say, yo, Sheriff, I know this is absurd. We've got a relationship now, right, Pat? So I just shoot my shot. I'm like, what if you invoice me for the labor so it's not at the expense of the county? And why don't you bring these boys and let them sing at my show tonight?
Pat McAfee
Backup singers. These guys.
Ernest
Inmates no do their own song, dude. They did a version of my song. They remixed one of my songs, Pat. It's the coolest thing. It's on tick tock. It's crazy. So these kids. I call it. He calls back, he goes, all right, I'll do it. I got a sheriff to bring four inmates actively in jail. Years. Real cases, by the way. Like, real inmates, like, had been in jail for years. And he calls me back and he's such a good sheriff. He goes, should we put them in street clothes? I was like, please, Sheriff, don't make them come up there and change jumpsuits, you know? And he's like, all right, cool. So these dudes come up and they sing. And it was by far one of the greatest moments, the way the arrival arena felt. You just seen people crying. These dudes are up there crying like the. The. The sheriff's crying, I'm crying. It's a 15,000 person arena just balling. And these dudes are up there and they're so nervous. Their eyes are closed and they're just singing their hearts out and rapping their stories. And, man, it was so special, man.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And then finding a little inspiration to. To become better so you don't go back whenever you get out and you find something, I mean, that's. Motivation is obviously a big thing. Hope a big thing. You're bringing a lot to a lot of people, Jelly Roll. That's why whenever people start saying stuff about you on Twitter, we don't need you. We don't need you to leave. That's incredible stuff. Ty has a question for you, Jelly.
Gumpy
When you take all that stuff into account, when you're going out on tour and you have, you know, you're in front of these massive crowds, do you have the opportunity? We talked about this with you a little bit last time. You're on, like, can you pinch yourself and be like, holy, I can't believe I'm up here. This is insane that this is where I'm at when. That's where I was at, you know, nine or five.
Pat McAfee
How long ago was that? How long ago was your.
Ernest
15 years ago. My daughter's 16 and a half now.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Ernest
So I remember she was born when I was in jail and I got out. I met her when she was 2.
Pat McAfee
Got it.
Ernest
So that's how I remember she missed her first two birthdays. I met her on her second birthday.
Pat McAfee
God, yeah.
Ernest
Damn.
Pat McAfee
You were in music already when you went to jail and then you.
Ernest
I was like, as. I always thought it was my only chance to be honest. Like, I looked at music like, if I have a chance of getting out of this street, out of this trailer park, it's going to be through music, you know what I mean?
Pat McAfee
In Memphis?
Ernest
No, Nashville. Nashville, right in the middle, Baby did a lot of Memphis stuff, though. You know, Three Six gave me my first deal them in. Little White.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's why. That's why I thought it was Memphis. You're a Nashville baby.
Ernest
Little White. When I first got out of jail, Little White brought me straight down to Juicy J and DJ Paul to Memphis. He came and picked me up in Nashville.
Pat McAfee
This one of them songs.
Ernest
That's my guy.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ernest
Believe me, I had White come out in Little Rock. He came out.
Pat McAfee
Still has fastball, I assume.
Ernest
Yes. Oh, yeah, for sure. And he came. White came straight up. Oxycontin, Xanax bars, Perkins and L Tabs.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's great. It's like, hey, we're at a different time. What? Still bangs though. Still bangs that entire thing. But whenever everybody's singing your song back. So we went to Taylor Swift on Sunday nights.
Ernest
The greatest show ever.
Pat McAfee
Crazy.
Ernest
The greatest show. I'm so sad I had to come the same week she was here. It don't matter what I do in there. I'm coming up against three nights of the greatest show ever.
Pat McAfee
It's insane.
Ernest
It's un.
Pat McAfee
It's a cir. It is a fool in the crowd is all in to that point.
Ernest
The whole time.
Pat McAfee
I think a lot of your songs very much getting echoed back to you. Is there a moment you take the ears out and just like listen and be like, damn. Like these people really care about the words that are coming out of my.
Ernest
Mouth every night, man. I keep one ear out when I'm up there. Anyways now just cuz it's that. It's that intense. Especially like a save me because we. We dropped the guitar for the first save that. You know, like whenever that I'm. And we'll just let the guitar drop and you just. And I'll drop the mic and you'll just hear 15,000 people. It's like there. It's like. It's like hearing 15,000 people exercise a demon. It's insane.
Pat McAfee
Well, hey, we don't need to bring.
Connor
Don't bring up the deed.
Pat McAfee
Don't be doing that. Coach Pagano has a question for you. What's up, coach?
Chuck Pagano
So how you doing, man?
Ernest
I'm great, dude. Better than I should.
Chuck Pagano
So was there one moment that you can look back to that got you to this point that you look back to one human being, one moment, one time where. Because I'm assuming you meet a lot of these people and some say they want to go through this. They want to get out of the predicament, get out of their circumstances. Was there one moment that you can speak to that said, okay, this would really turn me. What changed me? That human, that person, that moment?
Ernest
Yeah, it was her. It was my daughter. It was a clear. It was a clear cut thing for me. I don't. I used to tell people, I don't know what it was. So it felt like it was something magical that happened when my daughter was born. But the truth was I was sitting in a unit in a jail where I. Everything I owned in my name was in my cell and I owned three T shirts, four pair of boxers, six pair of socks, 30 suit, 60 SUPs and 20 honey buns. That's What I own. And I was like, I'm responsible for a whole human. It was the first time I had a real introspective about where I was actually at in my life and held myself accountable for that moment. Right then I was like, I gotta figure this out. I went straight and got my ged, enrolled in a community college. When I got home, went to a halfway house, started getting into programs, resources, Started trying to work on my sobriety. Hell, yeah, immediately, it's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Honey buns. Really good, though. They're great.
Ernest
Dude, listen. What. Y'all. Y'all know this. Some of the listeners are watching. They're gonna be like, I can't believe he's talking about this on the Pat McAfee Show. But that is a form of currency, very valuable.
Gumpy
Oh, yeah.
Ernest
Like a. Like a coffee can is, like, worth real money. A jar of peanut butter in jail is, like, real money. You can sell it by the cup. You know what I mean? It's crazy. You know, you're in there. So, like, in jail, you're proud of yourself. Like, I'm running the poker table. I got 60 soups. I got 40 honey buns.
Chuck Pagano
I got. You know what I mean?
Ernest
You're like, you look big money.
Pat McAfee
Perspective, brother.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Ernest
I got $400 worth of in this bag.
Pat McAfee
What are you talking. AJ has a question for you from Ohio.
Ernest
What's up, AJ?
Pat McAfee
How.
AJ Hawk
Hey, what's up, man? Hey, you look great, by the way. 1. Do you have, like a. Do you have a. I don't know, like a weight goal or whatever? Because I expect you to be fully jacked here within the next six to eight months. I'm sure you said you want to get under some weight. I think that's a great idea. It's been fun watching you. You can play, man. Like, you're a good basketball player. I feel like John Stockton out there. Yeah. Everyone's open.
Ernest
I'm good, baby. Nah, man, I've been blessed, man. The basketball thing has been. We stumbled into it. We played. We were playing. I remember what day it was. We played the Sacramento Kings Arena. I forgot the name of the arena. The golden one, I think.
Pat McAfee
Oh, that's so good.
Ernest
And they have the practice court attached to it. Like, you know, some of these places have the practice courts attached to the facility. And we went in there and just shot around because we used to just walk laps around the arena every day for, like, an hour just to get exercise up and down steps. And I was like, this is way cooler. Yeah, that's Jake. What about J. Cole pulled up and shoot shot basketball with us in Charlotte. That was the most.
Pat McAfee
He's very good.
Ernest
Cool I've ever seen.
Pat McAfee
He's very good at basketball.
Ernest
It wasn't fair, man. He bald on us.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ernest
It was not fair.
Pat McAfee
Every once in a while.
Ernest
Grant Williams came out and played with us that day, too, and that wasn't fair.
Pat McAfee
How's Cody, the drummer?
Ernest
Oh, dude, he's gonna flip. Now that you asked. He's the rock star of the crew, as always.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Rocking what he did in Cleveland at SummerSlam, what I watched him do.
Ernest
He's got a moment in the show. That's his moment that you're going to. It's early in the show, too, and it's a awesome. It's like, all about him. And he rides it.
Pat McAfee
He was standing up at the drums over your shoulder like this as soon as he dropped in. And then his mullet is flowing. He had these sunglasses. I was like, this guy is the coolest guy.
Connor
Legend.
Pat McAfee
Your. Your whole crew. Good group.
Ernest
Thank you, man.
Pat McAfee
Good group of people.
Ernest
Bless, man. Kind of like y'all. I was thinking about it today. I'm proud to say that like 18 of the 150 people on this tour I've known 15 plus years. Like, homie, homie.
AJ Hawk
You know what I mean?
Ernest
I have my cousins doing tattoos on the whole tour. Like my biological cousin.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Everybody gets to eat.
Ernest
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's very nice. How many new tats on this tour?
Ernest
I haven't got my tour tat yet. We're going to, though.
Pat McAfee
What is a tour tattoo something story.
Ernest
Yep. So what we'll do is we all pick a tat. Like, this was our last one. Remember, it's called the Back row Baptism tour with chapel church line right there. So we all get a tour tatt. The whole crew, like 100 of us will get it.
Pat McAfee
Are you going to get this one right on your face. Basketball. No.
Ernest
Yeah, dude. I tried to get this tour tattle. My face was the first time my wife shut me down for FaceTime. She was like, no more. Too much traffic. She was like, it's out of too much traffic.
Pat McAfee
Too much traffic. Jelly, you're going to crush tonight. The tour rolls on till October 27, I believe is the last date.
Ernest
November.
Pat McAfee
November.
Ernest
Yep, Yep. Oh, Nashville, Tennessee. November 27th. 58 arenas.
Pat McAfee
Oh, November 27th. That's on me.
Ernest
Didn't get it home.
Pat McAfee
We're gonna. I think we're gonna try to spin through the Nashville one, too.
Ernest
Come on.
Connor
That would be the one.
Ernest
Crazy. The Nashville show Is. You know, you can expect that to be a Jelly Rolling Friends show.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Ernest
You know how the Nashville show is, baby.
Pat McAfee
No, I don't know how that.
Ernest
You got to come. It's the hometown, dude. It never feels any crazier in country music.
Pat McAfee
You being in country music feels good, right, y'all?
Ernest
It's so good. Look at all them country festivals. Stagecoach headline.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, I forgot about Stagecoach. Congratulations.
Ernest
Huge deal, dude.
Pat McAfee
Ohio Stadium. Yes.
Ernest
Me and Kane. Me and Kane Brown are doing Ohio Stadium. It's gonna be awesome.
AJ Hawk
Young Jamie coming out.
Ernest
I got young Jamie coming out to play the guitar for sure. He agreed to do it. It's 100. He's locked in the day. Rogan's. Rogan's already cleared it. It's. It's gonna be awesome.
Pat McAfee
You need. How many ohs are you dropping in that stuff?
Ernest
Oh, dude, 50. Listen, first of all, I am not too far along in my career. I accept all cheap claps.
Pat McAfee
Amen.
Ernest
Just so y'all know, I still go for the cheap pop. I don't care. I'm not above it.
Pat McAfee
Have you ever seen what I do every time I'm on a microphone? Yeah.
Ernest
Give me the cheap clap, dude.
Pat McAfee
Are they alive? That's great news. I love everything about it. All right, well, crush the tour. Congrats on the number one album.
Ernest
Thank you, brother.
Pat McAfee
Man. Do we have another album coming or how's that?
Ernest
I don't know, man. I got. I'm a cool. This will be. This is breaking news for Jelly Roll. I'm not gonna headline a tour in America next year. It'll be my first year not headlining a tour in America since 2020, but before that, it was like, 20, 2012. It's been a long time, so I think we've done enough this year. I'm gonna do all those festivals next year, and I think I'm gonna get into. Get into a little television maybe.
Pat McAfee
Really? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What are we doing? We're hosting. We're hosting shows. We're doing game shows, man.
Ernest
It is. It is. I promise. Just like I brought the slimy story here. I'll break it here, but I can't say it today, but I'll talk to you off. It's real.
Pat McAfee
Oh, it feels.
Ernest
It's a couple. I got a couple cookers in there, man. They're gonna tell Jelly Roll. Do some talking, man. Instead of just saying.
Pat McAfee
Well, I'll tell you, you're a good talker, brother.
Ernest
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I think that's why the music is so good. Because if you can talk good and sing good. Normally things are going to go very well in that particular business. I mean, just brainstorming here, you Jelly Roll. At a talent television program judging would be a good one.
Ernest
Just acting sounds good to me.
Pat McAfee
You're the absolute man. All right, we're to take a break, hang out with Jelly Roll for a bit. Josh Allen will join us on the other side. The beautifully broken tour is currently traveling city to city. Tonight it is in Indianapolis. Are you here how many days?
Ernest
I'm just here tonight. Tomorrow I'm in Lexington, Kentucky. Last night I was in Detroit. I played Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday of this week.
Pat McAfee
Oh yeah, we talked about that whenever we saw each other in Cleveland. The amount of days that you were out.
Ernest
I'm different, man. I'm built like a small man. I'm an. I am an athlete in an alcoholic's body. I've just got to shed this skin, dude. I'm telling you.
Pat McAfee
Four times this. Five times this week.
Ernest
Yes, sir.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Connor
Evansville, Sunday, 90, 90 minutes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, hold on. And then I think you're in Cleveland for SummerSlam. You're flying to la. And then you were coming back to like Carolina.
Chuck Pagano
Yes, sir.
Pat McAfee
Or something. Then you were something. It's not like the most convenient schedule either. It's like really grinding away at it. Which I think is why everybody, we respect the out of it.
Ernest
Make haywire sunshine and baby nobody wants to bail. No wet hay, baby.
Pat McAfee
Damn right.
Gumpy
Well said.
Pat McAfee
When the iron's hot, gotta strike. Amen. Ladies and gentlemen, Jelly Roll. So you want to be a marketer? It's easy. You just have to score a ton of leads and figure out a way.
Ernest
To turn them all into customers.
Pat McAfee
Plus manage a dozen channels, write a million blogs and launch 100 campaigns all at once.
Jelly Roll
When that's done, simply make your socials.
Pat McAfee
Go viral and bring in record profits. No sweat. Okay, fine, it's a lot of sweat. But with HubSpot's AI powered marketing tools, launching benchmark breaking campaigns is easier than ever. Get started@HubSpot.com marketers. My dad works in B2B marketing. He came by my school for career day and said he was a big roas man. Then he told everyone how much he loved calculating his return on ad spend. My friends still laugh at me to this day. Not everyone gets B2B but with LinkedIn.
Chuck Pagano
You'Ll be able to reach people who do.
Ernest
Get a hundred dollar credit on your next ad campaign. Go to LinkedIn.comcampaign to claim your credit.
Pat McAfee
That's LinkedIn.com campaign terms and conditions apply. LinkedIn the place to be.
Chuck Pagano
To be.
Pat McAfee
Football. He's awesome. Just had a great hang. Jelly Roll Ernest. Chum mark boys to meet the entire team there. They're going to put on a hell of a show. That's A.J. hawk. The talks. The table was here at Boston. Connor at Ty Schmidt, one half of the Hammer Cowboys. Ap Tony's here. And Chuck, I saw you talking to Scary Larry a little bit with his delivery. Are you feeling Good over there? 36 years as a football coach. 18 in college, 18 in the NFL. Chuck Pagana, how you feeling right now?
Chuck Pagano
Feel great.
Pat McAfee
It's great in here.
Chuck Pagano
It's unbelievable. Great fire you played.
Pat McAfee
Fire, my friend is great in here. Oh, hey there. Ernest was here with Jelly Roll. Ernest is like one of the brains behind basically every country song that you've ever heard. And now he also has his own songs. He's. He performs everything like that. But like any song, you basically. He good jumper, too. Great jumper. Yeah. He.
Connor
He can shoot the rock.
Pat McAfee
Even had a. Yeah, I saw Even a. And he was in suspender.
Chuck Pagano
He's a little wiggle. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And he had the Titans hat on. That was on purpose. I think for sure. That was on purpose. Coming here. That was on. Now, granted, as I said at the draft, we had pretty good little run against love.
Connor
The moxie of it, though.
Chuck Pagano
Never lost to him. You never lost to him. I'm trying to think if I did six straight. I don't know if Peyton was ever losing or nice. No. Whatever it was, I don't think we lost him.
Pat McAfee
So if you beat him in all your. I don't think Peyton was losing to him much. Yeah. So I never lost to him either. That feels pretty good. I love the Titans.
Chuck Pagano
Hell, yeah.
Pat McAfee
That's where the head brings in. I do love the Titans, though. I love Nashville. I love the thought of it. I love the community down in Nashville. We chat about. You went to Nashville for the first time this past offseason.
Connor
Oh, my God. I've been waiting to go back ever since. I'll be completely honest with you. The only gripe. Actually, not the only gripe. The one of a few gripes that I have with the Indianapolis Airport. They need a direct flight to Nashville.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Because it's drivable.
Connor
Yeah, it's drivable, but it's on the verge of being a bitch of a drive. So it's kind of one of those things where you don't want to do it. But I would hop on a 30 minute flight in a heartbeat.
Pat McAfee
You know, I would take a train down there if I had.
Connor
I'd take a train. I've been. I've been pushing for more trains, man.
Pat McAfee
Yes, you have been. Yes, you have been for sure. Just got official stat. 15 and one I am against.
Connor
Thanks a lot. Or Lovski.
Pat McAfee
I don't know.
Ty Schmidt
I can look it up.
Chuck Pagano
Right.
Pat McAfee
2011, which was the year we were two and whatever did we lose? We lost one down there. Well, well, well. In Tennessee, I think. I think I got a punt blocked in that one for a touchdown.
Ty Schmidt
That was a Curtis Painter.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I was about to say I thought it was Curtis.
Connor
I don't blame him.
Pat McAfee
I think I tore my meniscus.
Ty Schmidt
Hasselback was the Titans quarterback.
Pat McAfee
Had a tackle, I think on Mariani, maybe two. Six points, 269 yards. I'm getting the stats in the back there. I think I had one block too in that game. They had a touchdown. Who's the guy for their team? Cortlandt. Who talked a lot of. Finnegan.
Chuck Pagano
Finnegan, yeah.
Connor
Andre Johnson fight. Cornegan.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Okay, so Corlan Finnegan and I actually would chat with each other before the game at halftime and during punt plays because he would be on there and I think he respected my moxie. I'm not 100% sure. He was always very kind to me and I always chit chatted back. They blocked the punt. He's. They scored a touchdown and he talked shit to me. I mean just while I'm laying in the end zone, he is talking to me at that exact moment. It was like what about Jason McCourty scored the touchdowns that it was.
Ty Schmidt
Wow, you did have a tackle.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I was remembering that game. Yeah, I was Remembering this. Jason McCarthy. McCourty. Zero yard blocked punt return. Yeah. We had brand new PP for that week. We were already losing and then we. We lost a bunch of guys put a new PP in there. He had no idea which way to go.
Chuck Pagano
Sure.
Pat McAfee
He was a great athlete though. Good guy. I still remember it like it was yesterday because I was very worried about him being the new PP going into the game. And then lo and behold we get one blocked in the end zone for a touchdown.
Chuck Pagano
Valid word.
Ty Schmidt
This was the completely defeated almost year.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. We're very bad. Yeah. Marianna was who I. I think I tackled. I don't remember. I remember making. I call Dag Mar.
Ty Schmidt
Sweet.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. When I was. I almost got shook. He almost got me pushed him out of bounds. The whole problem. Huh? What's that?
Chuck Pagano
Did I What was my record against him.
Pat McAfee
If I was 15? What year did you stay? How many years did you stay after me?
Chuck Pagano
212 to 217.
Pat McAfee
So one year after me. Right. Did you.
Ty Schmidt
You lost both games in 17.
Connor
Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
You have more losses than me.
Connor
No wonder that happened.
Pat McAfee
That's why that guy wore the hat. And that's why Ernst Ford.
Chuck Pagano
12, 0 and 2 Tennessee. And you're shocked we're letting you go, Coach.
Ty Schmidt
You were 10 and 2.
Pat McAfee
10 and 2. Not bad. I mean, not 15. One, but I mean, 10, 2 is not bad. That's why Earn. Ernest wore the hat in there. He's like, you remember this? Yeah. You remember this?
Connor
Yeah.
Gumpy
Fired not long after that.
Pat McAfee
That country music. Check it out. They got some good people down there. Really good people. Great crew, and music's good. Country music is good right now. I'm enjoying it. There's. I think old traditional country music fans are even kind of getting into the current and the change. Yeah. There's always going to be the people that hate it, but there for a while, they're like, this ain't country. This ain't country. This ain't country. We got baseball hats on. I don't want to hear, you know, like, yeah, now it's like, this is country. And I think a lot more people are accepting to it in the old school country world, even though people are going to hate it forever. And George Strait, I get it in the whole thing, but it's like all of them seemingly sell out every. Every amphitheater, every arena, every stadium that they go to, and they always have, like, multiple. There's always like four or five of them. They understand, like, mini festival, travels around. Business is good. Yeah. Everybody's listening it all summer. Anytime they wanted to fill up here in Indianapolis, they could. If they come to this amphitheater any night of the week, all summer long, could fill it up just because it's like country music feel good. Good times. We'll scream, we'll drink, we'll have a blast. And we keep it moving. It's like, country music's doing good. How about Jelly Roll Going to those prisons and that's so cool. That is cool.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, he's singing there. He's singing there before. He's going to sing tonight in the arena. Like, that's what's crazy.
Pat McAfee
Five shows this week. Five shows this week. And we're. Yeah. And we're going to.
Chuck Pagano
We got where she come out west. He'd sell. Kenny Chesney comes plays out in Idaho and Boise. He'd sell that out and crush it.
Pat McAfee
Isn't it cool that humans are naturally like, I would like to go sing in public. Group of people like would like to just go do something and like socialize and sing. Like music does very well here in India. I don't know how everywhere. Very, very well. Zach Brown can drop a show on a Tuesday here in the middle of summer and sell 22000 tickets at the amphitheater just because people want to go do something. It's a good time. Country music. Good business. Very good.
Connor
Great.
Pat McAfee
I'm assuming there's bad business part of it. He talks about it. He said, yeah.
Gumpy
Bit slimy.
Connor
Which.
Gumpy
How's the music in industry? You know, writ large though. I don't know if that was. That's specifically just country music.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I think he just got kind of dry. Yeah. Those games have been talked about.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Not just in music world.
Gumpy
Right.
Pat McAfee
Book world. Anything that's purchasable. And there's a list.
Gumpy
Yes.
Pat McAfee
There's been people gaming it eight I think since the beginning. But it is 40,000. That's a lot.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
That's a big time purchaser.
Gumpy
Oh yeah.
Connor
Might be changing.
Pat McAfee
Hopefully. You know what? It is all going to get better.
Connor
Get some of those key players out.
Pat McAfee
Oh yeah. Sounds like that's happening. Yeah. Does. There's a lot of things being said about a lot of things that I'm music wrote. Ernest gave me this jacket on his way out.
AJ Hawk
Oh, okay.
Pat McAfee
Fire legalized country fire jacket.
AJ Hawk
Nice.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Then he's got his. The mayor nickname here. Yeah, obviously. And then he's got the.
Connor
The Nashville.
Pat McAfee
The Tennessee flag. Okay. That's the Tennessee flag, I believe.
Connor
Pretty sure Tony looked it up.
Pat McAfee
I took a second look. Third look as well.
Gumpy
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Everybody else is thinking the same thing. I did the same exact thing. I was like, wait a minute, wait a minute.
Connor
Tennessee.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Messy flag. Legalized country music. Good people. Very nice people. Okay, let's get to the picks. Listen, tonight is a big one.
Connor
Huge one.
Pat McAfee
I don't even know how I feel right now. Okay. Because it's this stage of the season where we can all decide that we're gonna get every pick. Right. Or we're just gonna keep saying, fuck it, let sportsbooks win. Sure.
Connor
Can't do that today.
Pat McAfee
We leave no stone unturned. Ladies and gentlemen, forget the picks. Joining us now fresh out of practice. Had no idea that was the case. Buffalo Bills superstar, incredibly handsome quarterback playing the Indianapolis Colts this weekend in the loud house. Good luck, ladies and gentlemen. Josh Allen, how are you?
Jelly Roll
Josh, What a beautiful intro. Thank you.
Pat McAfee
I didn't know you were sitting there. I don't know how long you were sitting there, but I want to let you know. Thank you for joining us. I know it's a work week and we requested this late, so you making time we're legitimately grateful for. We appreciate it. Yeah.
Jelly Roll
It's only been here for 30 minutes.
Pat McAfee
We're good.
Connor
Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
That's what I thought. Yeah. Let's keep him for another 45, 50 minutes. Boys. Let's go ahead and continue to distract them. Big one against Colts this weekend. What have you been doing to prepare for the noise that the loud house is going to be at Lucas Oil Stadium?
Jelly Roll
Yeah, obviously practicing my silent cadence with the boys. We know it's going to be loud. You know, got our hand signals and our eye contact signals ready to go. So we've been practicing, so hopefully we'll be ready.
Pat McAfee
That's smart idea, Josh. That's a smart idea. I like what you're doing. We're going to be loud. We're going to be ready for you. We're excited to watch you play football. I think your story is one that a lot of Colts fans are actually looking at because we have a young stud quarterback in Anthony Richardson who maybe didn't have his greatest start whenever it comes to throwing, and then there was a tap out situation. But he's very young and there isn't, you know, give up on him. But there's a lot of conversation about can he become a great quarterback in this league. A lot of people compare how you started and where you are now to his story and what he could become with how big and athletic he is. For you, I'd like to say this year you're having your best year. By the way, congratulations by far. It's like, what is the differences that are being made in the off season? Is it more reps? What has it been for you, you think that has made you take the biggest steps each year?
Jelly Roll
Yeah, for me, I think it's just the rep count. I think if you go back to my, my college reps and even high school reps of just throwing the football and feeling and understanding the control of the football. I think as I've gotten older in the offseason, I've thrown more. I figured out really, you know, how to drive it, how to layer it, how to, how to launch it. And it's still something I'm working on each and every offseason. But the more reps that you get, you know, in the NFL especially, things are going to start to slow down. And, you know, I'm a big fan of ar. I think honestly that throw early in the season that he had, I think was Pierce. I think that's one of the better, best throws I've ever seen in my entire life of any level. I think that that throw showcases a lot of his ability and potential and hopefully he can learn and grow from the situation.
Pat McAfee
Amen. He's got Joe Flacco there. We heard you talk about Joe Flacco. There is an opportunity to, you know, watch one of, one of the guys who's won a Super Bowl. I think you even mentioned. How would you handle that if you were in that situation, Looking back, just hindsight.
Jelly Roll
Well, I think going back to my rookie year, bringing in a guy like Derek Anderson who didn't win a Super bowl, but that's Derek's my guy. Got to learn a lot from him, the way that he handled the little things, right, Just how to handle. Walk through, how to handle meetings, how to talk to certain guys in the building. And then when he went out and practiced, he practiced hard and he demanded a lot from, you know, the receivers and tight ends. So again, just being able to learn and grow from under somebody that, that knew what they were doing, they were in the league for a long time, and hopefully that he can take. Take a lot of things away from Joe.
Pat McAfee
Hell Yeah. Go ahead, A.J.
AJ Hawk
Josh, we talked to Kirk Cousins yesterday and he told us, like, how it's kind of a collaborative effort with his whole quarterback room. All the quarterbacks there, he. He leans on them. They're always like talking every single day and during game day as well. Like, what's your quarterback room like? And is that something that's kind of grown and you've realized how important that kind of room can be for you as the starter.
Jelly Roll
Yeah, it's super important, I think, having Ms. Trubisky as the backup, bringing in a guy like Mike White who's got a lot of reps in the NFL, and then Shane Buchel, who maybe doesn't have a lot of reps, but he's one of the smartest guys I've ever been around. Football wise, he knows what he's talking about. And again, the conversations that we have leading up throughout the week to game day are all focused around football. But again, like to be in a room that you feel comfortable with, that you can joke around with and keep it light, you know. And you know, as the starting quarterback, you kind of have to be the lead in terms of the vibes in that room. And they match my vibes pretty well.
Pat McAfee
Do you think? Not just that room. The whole building, though, is the quarterback. And when did you realize that?
Jelly Roll
Say it again.
Pat McAfee
Like your vibes, like you. You very much matter to the entire building. Like in the NFL. Yeah, quarterback matters a lot. What you said, your vibes in that room obviously matter, but in the entire building. Right. And when did you realize that?
Jelly Roll
I feel like I realized that pretty early on. The way that I come into the building, how I communicate with teammates, the positivity that I have each and every day. I think that guys see that and they want to be around that. And I take a lot of pride when guys leave to other teams for maybe a better contract or whatever the case is, and then they come back and they want to be back here in this building. And I take a lot of pride that our locker room is so tight and that we have a family like atmosphere. And, you know, I know that doesn't go for granted. I don't take that for granted.
Pat McAfee
Maybe if Bean could figure out the money, you know, this guy, people would have to leave. I'm joking, I'm joking, I'm joking. But with your team and how great you guys have been, there's different iterations of the squad. You know, people get let go that are household names that we know. Now you have to have a new team. How do you feel about this particular culture versus maybe some teams of the past? Because we've heard nothing but rave reviews of the culture, the locker room hangout, cards off, going to dinner together, having, I think you hosted a Halloween party. It's like, how do you feel about this team versus maybe some of the teams of the past?
Jelly Roll
For the Bills, I mean, I think it's very similar. You know, I try to approach each and every year the same way and just try to be myself and, you know, include others to tell them to be themselves. Right. Like we're not trying to be anything that we're not. Coach McDermott does a good job of that, of just preaching, be you with us and let your personality show. And we got a lot of good personalities on this team. But I think at the most important thing is guys that care about their job, care about football, and care about winning. And I think when you have those types of guys in your locker room, good things going to come from.
Pat McAfee
Connor has a question for you about all of that.
Connor
Yeah, Josh, earlier in the year, you were voted the NFL's biggest trash talker by your peers. Now, I'm not sure if you took that as like, oh, I'm the biggest son of a bitch, so that's why they voted me number one or.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Connor
Or by size or you actually do the most of it. Is that something that you're very aware of? And this year, did you decide to step it up a little, maybe? Like, hey, if they think I'm the biggest now, wait till they see what I do in the 2024 season.
Jelly Roll
Yeah, I think actually I've toned it down quite a bit. Wow.
Connor
What.
Jelly Roll
I think early on in my career, I relied heavily on that, and I think maybe that the mantra is still there and it just carries some weight from earlier in my career. But you see clips, you know, and it's. Every once in a while, I'll pull something out of the rabbit's hat or the. The magician's hat, you know, and. But if you go to the clip of me and Simmons after that Tennessee Titans game, you know, we walked up to each other, gave each other a dap and a hug and just said, I love. I love you talking that crap to me, and I love giving it back. So it's all in good fun. And when we're on the football field, obviously, you know, tensions get flared up a little bit, and. But after the game, you know, we're all one fraternity here in the NFL.
Pat McAfee
No, agreed. Okay. We agree on that. And you did a. I don't know who the fuck you are to a guy. I think it was a Dolphins. Yeah. David Long. David, what are you doing? Josh, leave him alone. That was in. That was immediately after the biggest trash talker thing came out. I think the vote came out. And then that game was on prime time, and this kid ran over, ran out of bounds maybe. And then he was saying something to you, and you, like, very clearly just did like a look for the last name and then back and then jogged away. And it was like, oh, this guy is talking all the time.
Jelly Roll
But I didn't say anything. I didn't say anything. So I wasn't trash talking.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Jelly Roll
It was worse talking down.
Pat McAfee
You were trash body languaging the. Out of this guy. Okay. So that's the levels of it. That's why. That's why you get the biggest trash talker title. That's awesome. I respect that, too. Out of Wyoming. Yeah. I couldn't even imagine what you were saying to those kids in college. What's that?
Jelly Roll
Go pokes.
Pat McAfee
Always been a shit talker.
Jelly Roll
Yeah, I think so. As long as I can remember.
Pat McAfee
God, I love it. Don't be doing any shit talking this weekend, okay? Not in the loud house, Josh. All right. In the loud house.
Jelly Roll
Listen, I like a nice, clean game, though. I don't initiate it. I'm the one that kind of like, I'll retaliate. I don't know. I don't ever initiate it, though.
Pat McAfee
You don't start it. But if you're gonna open the door, I will certainly come in.
Jelly Roll
Yes, absolutely.
Pat McAfee
That's how I used to feel on, like, Twitter.
Chuck Pagano
Sure.
Pat McAfee
You know, like, I'm not gonna start anything, but if you start talking to me, I am gonna come back. Now I can't do it, because then you're activating followers to bury people, and then you find out how good people on the Internet are talking shit, and they are, and all of a sudden an account is deleted, and now you feel bad.
Jelly Roll
So they know your address and where you were last week, and I'm just messing.
Pat McAfee
That's very true, though. Yeah. You know that life now, too. Even more so the public eye. Ty has a question for you. Josh.
Gumpy
Josh, Pat mentioned how you're playing the best ball of your career right now, and you've been an elite guy in the NFL for several years now, but in a couple of, like, the last few years, the media has always said, like, hey, while we're. He's going to play. Unbelievable. The turnovers are still kind of an issue. And then we talked to Brandon Bean and he basically said, like, hey, listen, we want Josh to beat Josh. Like, we want him to play exactly how he does. But your turnovers have gone way down this year. Has there been anything, like, consciously that you done to maybe be a little bit more careful with the ball, or is that just you kind of maturing and understanding the offense more?
Jelly Roll
Yeah, maturing and understanding the offense is number one, making a conscious effort not to not throw interceptions, but to make good decisions with the football and where I'm throwing it. And honestly, like, I've thrown a couple and they've. They've just dropped them, so. I understand that piece, too, that sometimes it goes your way and it's gone our way a couple times.
Pat McAfee
Are we still thinking about running people over when we have to, that whole thing? Are we getting too old now? We getting too old?
Jelly Roll
Depending on the week, I think body feels good enough to do it this week. If need be. If need be.
Pat McAfee
No, no. Take the week off from any physical stuff. Take the week off. Talking about physical, your head coach, I feel, is like, is guy who would win in a fight if there was a head coach battle royal. Chuck Pagano has a question for you.
Chuck Pagano
Hey, Josh, we talk all the time about the relationship, how important the relationship is between the head coach and the quarterback. I'm assuming yours is really good with Coach McDermott. Just considering all the success that you two have had, what is that relationship like? And I remember trying to do my due diligence watching opponent defense and then going in the quarterback room and trying to pry my way in there and try to give my little tidbits here on third down or red area. So what's that relationship like? And do you actually spend time with Coach McDermott talking about the opponent defense?
Jelly Roll
Yeah, absolutely. And I think it's more big picture stuff of what we're expecting them to do. Obviously, situations arising in games. And he does such a good job of bringing up clips and showing stuff from around the league. I think that's one of the best things that he does, and he explains it very well to our team. But meeting him before, before days on Wednesdays and just making sure that we're on the same page with, in terms of the messaging that we're sending throughout the team. But, yeah, I got a lot of love for Coach McDermott. Obviously, he's been here the entire time that I've been here. We've had a lot of success, and we're just trying to get over that hump.
Pat McAfee
Let's talk about some of your weapons that you've been utilizing this year. Shakir's a guy, huh? That's a guy. Yeah.
Jelly Roll
Yeah, he's the best you knew he was gonna be.
Pat McAfee
I assume you guys had success last year, but did you understand what he could potentially be for the offense coming into this year?
Jelly Roll
I did, I did. I think if you go back to last year, started utilizing him more in the second half of the season. On top of that, he's a Mountain west guy, so that's. That's a plus. But he. He works his tail off. He does all the little things the right way. If you watch him when he doesn't get the ball, he's always one of the first ones following it. He's always one of the ones helping somebody up off the ground. And he's a football player above all else, and that's what we love about him.
Pat McAfee
Go ahead, A.J.
AJ Hawk
We'Ve heard players talk about, especially quarterbacks. We know DHOP now with Patrick Mahomes, he steps in, boom, he already makes an impact. And they talk about. Mahomes is saying, like, he can read like the body language of these receivers makes it easier on quarterbacks. Like, what is that? Like, can you explain what that might be? And you obviously spread the ball around. Your, your team's dealing with some guys banged up some of your weapons. You can get it to anybody. What is that like, what, what does it feel like when, you know, you're very confident in what your receiver is going to run, he's not going to hang you out to dry?
Jelly Roll
Yeah, I mean, it's a, it's a beautiful feeling. And again, sometimes it takes longer for you to get on page with certain guys. Sometimes it clicks right away. And typically when you get veterans like a D Hop or like an Amari Cooper here, you don't need as much time because they understand the ins and outs of the game and their position and they've worked so hard at it. So you know, when, when Hopp came here, obviously week one got the touchdown. I think four for 60 is what he went. And that was on three days of practice. And we're hoping to get him back here sometime soon. And maybe it's this week. But you know, when you're on, on the same page as your, your weapons, you don't really need to see where they're at. You can trust where they're going to be. And so it's a good feeling.
Pat McAfee
You should be a good friend of Maury and say another week. You should be a good friend to him. You know, gotta earn up his trust. Say you should be 110% rest up before you come back.
Jelly Roll
We got the bye week in two weeks. So he can, he can go out there now and get another rest week later.
Pat McAfee
Okay. All right. We don't need, we don't need common sense coming in this entire thing. How about Big Ball Bass, brother? How about big ball bass? 61 yarder to win that thing. What a moment. He's gonna remember that obviously forever, as are you guys. I know he missed an extra point earlier. I think early in the season there was a miss to an incredibly windy day. So in the kicking world, obviously it can get loud and everything. Can you talk about this and does he do this routinely in practice? Is this a normal thing for Big Ball Bass?
Jelly Roll
Yeah, I mean, he's a, he's a big leg, that's for sure. I got emotional after the game when that happened. I'm not going to lie. He's. He's been battling obviously this season and in his own head and everybody, all the outside noise, but just making sure we're we're going up to him as a team and just saying, hey, we love you, we trust you, and to go out there. And I think it's the longest in Bill's history, 61 yards. Listen, and Buffalo's not a tough or. Buffalo's a tough place to kick, it's a tough place to throw. You bring in that wind, you bring in the weather. You understand that, right? Like, there's. There's different elements that we have to deal with here than anywhere else. And I'm so. I'm just so proud of him because again, the weeks leading up to it obviously weren't very easy for him. And you see him after the. After the game, get the game ball. But what a stud T. Bass is, man. We love him here.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we've seen him, like, grow in front of our eyes. Feel like since he got out of college and became the gear guys, kicker a lot of primetime games, a lot of big games. We've watched him a lot. I didn't even think about. And I should have immediately done that. The outside noise, obviously. What's the inside noise? Every kicker, every punter, let alone golfer, pitchers, you name it. In quarterbacks, I assume it happens as well. You had a 61 yarder walk off, though. I mean, that's quite a. That's a freeing feeling, I assume.
Jelly Roll
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
For big ball Bass.
Jelly Roll
Yeah. And that like you said, like that. Sometimes it just takes one.
Pat McAfee
How to baby Tyler do it again this weekend.
Connor
Yeah, exactly.
AJ Hawk
Now indoors in the loud house, he might make a 75 yard break.
Pat McAfee
The record, they weren't able to open a roof last time because there was a mechanical error. Okay. So they did have the window open. Get ready for the breeze that's coming in through that window. Josh. You better be praying it's not good weather. If it's good weather, they're opening that top off, taking the window down. Oh, oh. We're talking like this in there. And it's loud. Oh, my. Good luck. Good luck sleeping.
AJ Hawk
Sure, sure.
Pat McAfee
Before that kick of big play, obviously happened with somebody you guys know. Well, go ahead, Tone.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Josh, I don't know if you want to put this to bed. The Internet was saying that, you know, if you guys needed to play Poyer before the game, told you he would put his helmet underneath someone's chin for a big penalty. Is that true?
Pat McAfee
What's that? Is that. Why did you. That is what happened. That is.
Jelly Roll
No, that's. There's no truth behind that. I love Po, but he's double agent. No, he's Not a double agent. He's just trying to make a play for his team, and unfortunately for them, it went our way.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Very unfortunate.
Pat McAfee
Gompy's a Dolphins fan. He doesn't believe it. He thinks there's a chance There's a little bit of cooking in the kitchen happening, and that's just, you know, whenever you have those types of things happen, though. You got to feel as if the football gods are on your side. How do you guys feel about this season? We feel great about this team. Obviously, everything's in front of us. Yeah.
Jelly Roll
I mean, sitting here at seven and two.
Pat McAfee
Wow. Big one.
Jelly Roll
Feel good about that. Obviously, you know, we understand what's going on around the league, but we're just trying to focus on what we can control. And that's Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
Pat McAfee
How was that Halloween party? Was it sweet? Look sweet.
Jelly Roll
It was sweet. It was one of the best ones I think guys will ever be to. It was. It was awesome.
Pat McAfee
Good for you, man. Super celebrity relationship, too. This guy's a fucking stud, talking shit, doing it all. He's got to deal with the loud house this week. All right, safe travels. We appreciate you joining us. Have a great week.
Jelly Roll
Thank you, guys.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, have a good one. Josh.
Chuck Pagano
Shakira. Boise State.
Pat McAfee
What's that?
Chuck Pagano
You knew that, right?
Pat McAfee
No, what's that, Khalil?
Chuck Pagano
Boise State.
Pat McAfee
Oh, Mountain west guy. That's why he said that. Boise State, obviously.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Connor
Claiming Boise.
Pat McAfee
Colorado. Colorado. Miami.
Chuck Pagano
Come on, Gums. Can you hear?
Pat McAfee
Indiana Colts. Yeah, we get it. It fits in perfect with Diva. Not here. Yeah, exactly. 20 different teams. A lot of teams. They're all top right now. It's a good time. It's a good time. Josh Allen's the man. Everybody's looking for their Josh Allen.
Connor
Yeah, that's why I'm glad the Patriots found theirs.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, exactly like the Patriots were. Like, Drake May is next Josh Allen. Colts with Anthony Richardson. Next Josh Allen. That's crazy.
Chuck Pagano
The way to go that guy.
Gumpy
It'd be pretty sweet to have that guy, though.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God.
Gumpy
Everyone's saying, like, hey, I want the next Josh Allen. Like, Buffalo fans actually have Josh Allen.
Pat McAfee
And the immediate follow up from haters is guy hasn't won a Super bowl yet, and then he hears that. Josh hears that, and if he's a trash talker, he hears everything.
AJ Hawk
He's awesome.
Pat McAfee
I.
AJ Hawk
Honestly, I. First off, he's a great, great golfer as well. I saw him at the American Century Championship. The dude can absolutely smoke the ball, but he's actually, like, legit he can score as well. Like he's played what, basketball, baseball, football. All in high school as well. You getting limbered.
Pat McAfee
Hold on for July.
Connor
Hold on.
Pat McAfee
That one. That one felt a lot smoother.
Connor
June just opened up a little.
AJ Hawk
Came right out of the pocket. Right out of the pocket there.
Pat McAfee
I mean, that one felt pretty. That one felt pretty good. That. Pretty good. And I sat next to Scotty Scheffler. I touched the green.
Ty Schmidt
He gave you that tip. He said, do not do that.
Pat McAfee
Hey, so I'm looking to do that right here. Don't ever.
AJ Hawk
What?
Pat McAfee
He said don't ever do that again. Don't ever. It's a good tip. No, don't ever do that. Well, I thought that's what I'm trying to. Don't ever do. Just smooth. Whatever.
Chuck Pagano
Smooth.
Pat McAfee
Who cares? I'm like. But I'm trying to. But this, though.
AJ Hawk
What about.
Pat McAfee
He said don't ever. Don't ever do that.
Connor
Good to know.
Pat McAfee
All right. All right. That was a good show. I was literally at the show was rapping while the whole thing was happening. Not gonna ask, you know, not gonna not ask Scotty Scheffler how to golf if you're sitting right next to have to. Just got to be smooth. And when I took a couple little air swings there, it felt pretty.
AJ Hawk
Pretty good.
Connor
What's.
Ernest
What's to look.
Pat McAfee
What is the date of. Do we know American Secondary Championship date when it is?
AJ Hawk
July, maybe 9th.
Pat McAfee
Around there schedule a lot better too, doesn't it?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, that's when. That's when Wimbledon is, I think, or something.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's right.
Connor
That's right. After all the NBA and NHL finals.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my gosh. Can't get hurt golfing either.
Ernest
Wimbledon.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Well, no, because Wimbledon takes over espn, so.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, true.
Pat McAfee
Has he unretired from golf?
Connor
Tahoe Sounds pretty nay.
Pat McAfee
It does, doesn't it?
Gumpy
July 9th to 13th.
Pat McAfee
Man. If we get invited again, maybe there's a chance.
Connor
Okay.
Pat McAfee
That felt really good right there.
Connor
It looked good.
Ernest
Look.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
From here.
AJ Hawk
That's all it takes.
Pat McAfee
Oh, wow.
Chuck Pagano
Oh, one.
Pat McAfee
Did you see that?
Ty Schmidt
And you stopped doing that. So that was good.
Gumpy
Yeah. Not doing this.
Connor
Not doing the thing.
Pat McAfee
Not even thinking about that anymore. That might have been a whole. That might have been a whole damn problem.
Chuck Pagano
Where'd you get that?
Pat McAfee
I thought I was trying to square the son of a up. That's all I want to. I'm up here on the sim and it's like, let's look at your club face. And then tells you like the percentage that you're on or off or whatever, the degree of your angle or whatever. And we're just trying to get that thing square. We're trying to get that thing flush up there. That seemingly is the right way to golf. So I. I just started. I started doing that to like. Like, if I line that up at the ball, I should be good. Yeah. Thought everybody was doing that, doing this. That easy. Thought everybody was doing.
Ty Schmidt
It turns out right at contact, you got to time it.
Pat McAfee
Don't ever do that again. All right, Scotty? I guess I don't know if that.
Chuck Pagano
Happens to contact, but you see people always finishing over.
Pat McAfee
They all roll over.
Ty Schmidt
Chucky said don't do it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but he's rolling over for sure.
Chuck Pagano
You see them all do that. I think you finish on your right side too much. You need to finish on your left side.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you have. Chuck has sent me some tips sometimes from watching it. What do I know? Just won the club championship. You need to. You need to drink it out of.
Chuck Pagano
This cup for a reason. Reasons.
Pat McAfee
I mean, you need your weight on your front foot more. You're leaning back too much. You're right. I. But I think that involves more flexibility.
Connor
Okay.
Pat McAfee
I just figured out. Right.
Ty Schmidt
That was a good old school.
AJ Hawk
Looks pretty good. Looks pretty.
Ty Schmidt
Might be back looking like Bagger Vans.
Pat McAfee
Boom. I gotta have a movie.
Chuck Pagano
That's got to be so much fun. Bagger didn't go right.
Pat McAfee
No.
Chuck Pagano
It's a lot of walking. Right.
Pat McAfee
Who's it for? It wasn't fun for me. I want to let you know it is.
Chuck Pagano
I'd actually. I know he loves to do it. I'd actually loop.
Pat McAfee
Sorry, what?
AJ Hawk
Carry the bag.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, carry the bag. Oh, loop.
Pat McAfee
Oh, God. We don't need your golf.
Connor
Welcome to 2024.
Pat McAfee
You called that anymore? You're in the golf world. We get it. You know, like to loop.
Connor
Okay.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Chuck Pagano
Well, somebody loops for you. Go to nice country club. The guys, hey, this guy will loop for you.
Pat McAfee
We don't know that.
Connor
How old are the guys you're golfing Mercedes in that? That's a genuine question.
Chuck Pagano
Eight to 80.
Pat McAfee
Hey, I might join a country club this year and actually, like, do it.
AJ Hawk
Oh, do it. That'd be sweet.
Pat McAfee
Just want to cross the street, check back in in five.
AJ Hawk
I thought you belong.
Pat McAfee
You belong to like five of them, I thought. I do. I do. I've never done them, though. I go because there's one day I need to golf and all of a sudden I sign up for a six year plan. Okay. All right. Thanks for the forty thousand dollar round I just paid for. Yep. But you can come back and spend 500 in a gift shop anytime you need to do it. Okay. Can't wait to do that. I don't think I'm gonna be back in the state then, but. Feels like a little bit of a scam here, but I get it. Gotta join. Initiation fee, pay for all that. So I can golf today? Because it's the only time I can golf in. You're the only place that's near here. But yeah, I'm gonna. Actually, I. I don't know. It's right here. I. It's right here. There is a course.
Michael Lombardi
It's right there.
Pat McAfee
Right there.
AJ Hawk
Right. Right there.
Pat McAfee
You're right. Yeah, Right there.
Ernest
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Connor
Yep. Yep.
Pat McAfee
It's so close.
Connor
It's right there.
Pat McAfee
It's always busy. It's a country club and you can't get on. That's not the place we want to go. It does not.
Ty Schmidt
That is the place you want to go though.
Pat McAfee
No, but can't get on. And it's a country club schedule. No, you can't. Because the people that have been.
Ty Schmidt
How do the people get on then?
Pat McAfee
Because they've been there. They got them locked.
Gumpy
7 days old brother package is playing 72 out there every single day.
Pat McAfee
Exactly. Same time, same dance.
Ernest
Let's be real here.
Ty Schmidt
Hey, Pat wants to get on.
Pat McAfee
No, that is not okay. That is not how it works. And that's why that place thinks. That is not how anything works. No, all of it.
Chuck Pagano
Like, what would that place that's right there set you back? What?
Pat McAfee
Well, I was already remembered two different times because I had to golf one time. Yeah, it's fur. Yeah. I paid the initiation fee one time. That.
Chuck Pagano
How many members do we know?
Pat McAfee
How many? 10,000. How many spots are there in one day of golf? Because it feels like each one of them is taken up. That's what I felt like.
Connor
At least I wasn't 27 holes over there too.
Pat McAfee
It's beautiful. Oh, wow. I just can't get on. It's good track.
Gumpy
It's good track.
Pat McAfee
It is beautiful too. Yeah, it's right there.
Gumpy
I mean, he's not bullshitting.
Connor
It's literally right there. See it through the front door as we speak.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. Should be all right. We'll think about it. Because look, I'm. I mean, that's kind of o.
AJ Hawk
Right out of the pocket.
Connor
I mean, two years ago, golf was a real fun.
Pat McAfee
It wasn't bad. Golf got real, real hard. It was fun this summer too, for the guys that played. Oh, thanks, Foxy. Thanks.
Connor
Oh, I'm.
Ernest
I'm good.
Connor
You just heard from someone who's good at golf? Well, no, I actually say it's fun.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Okay. Over. Under 40 every single week. We see it on the IG store. Almost had a whole one every single day of my life.
Connor
Yeah, you don't know about what it's like to stink a golf.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you don't know these tribulations, brother. I did stink at one point, and then I. Yeah.
Connor
In High School, 11 years old, you.
Pat McAfee
Had no obligations to anything else that you could choose between. Oh, I can go hang out with my family, or I could go do this thing I suck at for five hours. We need to pick a day and time of the week, and all of us play, and we do that once a week, every single week next summer. All right, let's make a deal. It's an obligation. Yeah, we're definitely.
Connor
What's. What's today? November 7th. Book it.
Pat McAfee
Come on. We're definitely gonna do.
Gumpy
That's never gonna happen.
Pat McAfee
You know what? Why not? If Chuck gets it right tonight, we do it.
Connor
Chuck.
Gumpy
There we go.
Pat McAfee
All right. Lot on the line, lot online.
Chuck Pagano
Let's take a peek at some of the.
Pat McAfee
I'm kind of hoping we don't get it.
Chuck Pagano
Let's take a peek.
Pat McAfee
Some of the game records here tonight.
Chuck Pagano
Let's look at some of the game.
Pat McAfee
So hold on. So if Chuck gets his right, we're gonna do a golf league?
Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Do you want it at night or in the morning? It's gonna be on Thursdays. How do we feel about Thursday? All the time?
Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Whenever we can have.
Ty Schmidt
Definitely not at night.
Pat McAfee
Can't wait. 7:30am on Thursday. I can figure that part out. Doubtful. I'll figure that one out. Oh, yeah. There's only 14 of us. Okay.
Chuck Pagano
I'll get that done for you guys.
Pat McAfee
Wait a minute.
Chuck Pagano
Won't be. It won't be a goat ranch. Okay, whatever.
Pat McAfee
Hey, listen. Go Ranch is okay.
Connor
That sounds better.
Pat McAfee
Literally, any course you can get on out here is a good course.
Chuck Pagano
She can't work cut offs.
Pat McAfee
Changes things.
Michael Lombardi
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Go to hell.
Chuck Pagano
I can see you in a pair of daisies out there swimming.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What looks weird.
Connor
What is that supposed to imagine?
Chuck Pagano
Those little cheeks.
Pat McAfee
Coming out the back.
AJ Hawk
Come on now.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. He's talking about you having your ass cheeks. Butt cheeks hanging out the back.
Connor
Don't worry, Golfing.
Pat McAfee
I'm not going to be there. No. If he gets. If he gets us a nice spice.
Connor
Yeah, maybe I'll go and hang out, have a cup of coffee.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but you're going to be part of the golf league. You got to be a part of it. If coach gets this right tonight, you can have to be a part of it. You know, you can loop. That's a good call. You can loop.
Chuck Pagano
You can loop for me.
Pat McAfee
I'll. I'll loop.
Chuck Pagano
I'll give you 100 bucks.
Pat McAfee
Okay, that sounds good. I like you. Count me. Is that course is right there? It is.
Gumpy
It's right there.
Connor
It's right there.
Chuck Pagano
Why do you guys say like they don't happen? It'll definitely happen because of how you know it's bullshit.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
I've been teenage like I'm on your side. I said no. Fuck. Come on show. No, sir.
Pat McAfee
I've been missing.
Chuck Pagano
I don't have that. Absolutely complete bullshit.
Pat McAfee
Me Colorado buff fan. Yes, of course. Hometown. Let's go some game records. Sure. Got to get it right tonight. If not, we're not doing anything.
Chuck Pagano
This should be a banger. Almost a thousand yards between both offenses in week. Week five. 79 points. Joey Burrow, four touchdowns and 392 yards. Lamar was off the charts. Good. They got so many good players in this game. This should be a banger.
Pat McAfee
Okay, let's look at some game records. Start Cincinnati on the defensive side.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah. So Trey Hendrickson, I think is up first here. He's got 11 sacks for the Bengals. Haven't heard much from Hubbard. They're going to need some action out of some guys. But this guy, awesome. He's. He's unbelievable. He's a rolling ball. He's got a.
Ty Schmidt
Last week Chuck.
Chuck Pagano
He's. What's that?
Ty Schmidt
How many exacts he have last week.
Chuck Pagano
He had four last week against the ratings obviously.
Pat McAfee
Looked like he could have had 10.
Chuck Pagano
No, he could have. Absolutely. So she's a player. They got seven seconds. Pratt and Wilson. I like this. I like starting left tackle in the NFL.
Gumpy
Who is that?
Connor
Who's seven?
Pat McAfee
I don't think. I think he was rating for the speed.
Chuck Pagano
Now I think we know why the Raiders are the Raiders, right?
Pat McAfee
He thinks a speed rush has come, doesn't he? A.J. he thinks.
Chuck Pagano
This is the guy who got Ghetzi fired right here. Okay. I hate Roc.
AJ Hawk
Oh, no.
Chuck Pagano
How about we put a tight end over there?
Connor
Get up, Shev.
Chuck Pagano
Can we help you?
Pat McAfee
Hendrickson is a fucking bullet.
Chuck Pagano
Former Raven Gino Stone. He's back there rolling around with Von Bell. They've lost. They haven't been. The Bengals defense that we're used to seeing On a consistent basis this year. But yeah, we're going to need a lot of trey tonight.
Connor
Minshew's like, help me up.
Pat McAfee
Now let's go to the offensive side for Cincinnati. Obviously Jamar Chase is on that side, but also a gritty monster.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, no doubt. So with T. Higgins out, Kaseki's been kind of a guy, a go to guy in his absence. They've got Jamar. You mentioned that Yoshavas is another guy that they like number 80, keep an eye on him. But Kaseki was big in this game. I think he had eight or nine catches in this one and I think a touchdown or two. So look for Gosecki to get some work tonight in the middle of the field versus Ravens unit, this Ravens defense. Here's a touchdown pass to Gosecki here. Joe B. He's more athletic than you give him credit for. I mean, he can get out of trouble, he can extend some plays, he can keep his eyes down the field. He finds his weapons down the field. He's a good one. Obviously, I think we saw this one. This is from week five. This was a communication breakdown in the back end for this Baltimore Raven defense. And this is right before the half. This is like what happened to Chicago, you know, at Arizona. You give up a tutty with 20 some seconds to go to end the half. We talk about the middle eight. That middle eight that's so important, that last four minutes of the second quarter and the first four minutes of the third quarter. Here's another one. Jamar, big play. This is the thing that Jamar can do for you. You can get the ball to him, you know, behind the line of scrimmage. You can break a tackle or two and he can take it the distance. So, oh yeah, Ravens defense is going to have to be under P's and Q's. The one thing about the Ravens defense where I think they played, they played really well. Bo Nicks missed some throws last week, but I think they finally figured out they got Marlon Humphrey back at one of their corners. On the Ravens defense going against this offense tonight, Brandon Stevens plays the other side. All right, Millette was back, you know, so. And then they played this three safety look, all right, Williams, they get back in the lineup. He missed two weeks ago at Cleveland for whatever reason, right? I think it's Marcus Williams, right? Number 32, Kyle and him play back there in base. But then they put Kyle down in big nickel situations so they can use him at verse. 11 personnel, 12 personnel, early down stuff. But then you Play with our Darius Washington. Number 29, Eddie Jackson, I believe, was hurt last week. He was inactive. So this unit that. I think they found something with this unit with 14 down there, Ardarius Williams in the back end, all right, playing this big nickel and then they want to go to a traditional nickel, they'll put Millette, number 10, at the nickel spot. All right, Stevens and Humphrey outside. And then Kyle Hamilton and our Darius week, and they played really good. I only gave up 10 points to the Broncos. Again, Bo Nicks missed some things. You can't run the ball on this Ravens defense. Defense, they're number one against the run. They're number one when it comes to rushing. So if you can run the ball and stop the run, got a pretty good chance of winning a lot of games. This guy, Tavareus Robinson, he had a couple sacks last week against the Broncos. There's really been one guy, you know, Van Oy's been the guy, you know, going into year. What is this for? 12, 13 for Kyle, he's. He's having a heck of a year. He's got seven and a half or eight, eight sacks away. Starts at the other outside linebacker spot for these guys. He's got four sacks. But Robinson, this guy, you better know. Like when you put the game records up on Wednesday and we go in the team meeting and we say, hey, look, this guy can't wreck. They've got 14 highlighted, right? Kyle Hamilton, let's make sure he can come off the edge here. They're running, hey, diddle diddle, three up the middle. They bring him up the middle. They got a back on him. He swims him another sack. He is unbelievable. He can blitz, he can cover. He can play in the deep parts of the defense. He can play man to man. Yeah, he's. He's unbelievable. He does. He does a great job.
Pat McAfee
And then on the offense for the Baltimore Ravens, obviously.
Chuck Pagano
No, these guys stink. They're number one. This guy's number one. You showed the graphic, right? They're number one in everything. They lead the. They lead the league in total offense. This guy obviously, touchdowns, rushing yards, yards per carry, you. You name it. He's just incredible. The blocking schemes. Monkin's done a great job with this unit. They're going to put a bunch of big people out there. If they want to take big people out there and put small guys out there, they've got the weapons to do this. This guy is playing obviously MVP level. He's got two already. He's playing like he's going to get another one. This, I forgot about this with all those other players and then you think, oh, and they got Lamar. Yeah, just his ability to extend plays, keep his eyes down the field. He's thrown with great touch and great accuracy. The play action pass because of Derrick Henry, because of. You've got to, you know, allocate enough resources at the line of scrimmage on early downs to stop this dude. I mean you're leaving your back end, you're playing single high defense, you're leaving your corners, you know, in man to man situation. Cam Taylor, Britt, the other guy they got, you know, in one on one and dime.
Pat McAfee
Mark Andrews is on.
Chuck Pagano
Andrews is really good. Likely we said's out but Kolar's more than capable of filling in for him. Z Zay Flowers is like to me, he's on, he's unguardable. He is so quick at the line of scrimmage, you can't get hands on him. If you're up there impressed again, the play action, you get the linebacker sucked up south and there's so much space, there's so much space between the deep parts of the, of the secondary, your three deep zones, you're underneath backers, they're going to be scrambling trying to get back there. His run after catch is incredible.
Pat McAfee
That looks like a movie.
Chuck Pagano
Six guys chasing him and he's taking care of the ball. Obviously made the huge mistake and had the big fumble in the AFC championship game again against KC last year.
Pat McAfee
But could have motivated them all off.
Chuck Pagano
No, it's. And yeah, it's a competitive group. I mean a talented group. I mean you got Bateman over there, right? You got Aguilar over there.
Pat McAfee
I mean shout out to NFL Pro. NFL plus Premium. Hell yeah. Get all the angles of all the games. They, they're running a good operation over there. NFL Plus Pro Premium. It is worth it 100%. All the stats, the insights, everything, they are matchups. They're giving you like, hey, just a heads up, this is a very favorable matchup for this particular team, this particular week. Now I'm not saying that people need to utilize that information to gamble with, but if you are a gambler, they have some great little tidbits that could add your arsenal in your decision making. If you're doing fantasy or if you're just fan that wants to talk shit. Shout out to NFL plus Pro Premium. It's phenomenal. Yeah. AJ have you dabbled in there yet?
AJ Hawk
Oh yeah, I messed around like it's, it's honestly fun. There's so many different things you can do to find a way to, like, you know, nail down on what exactly you want to see. Like you can pretty much see anything you want and a bunch of stats that you never even thought existed.
Pat McAfee
Easy to navigate to, which is good. I'm kind of a doofus when it comes to all that, so I need it to be easy. They certainly are. Speaking of easy, it feels like Chuck's painting a picture for us. We got the tail of the tape here all of a sudden, brother.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah. So Joey B. Is 1 and 5, head to head against. Against Lamar. You can see points per game. They both can put points up. I said the first meeting, 79 points. I think the over. Under is what, 52. Yeah. This is going to fly over, so I'll give that one out right now.
Pat McAfee
Okay, there's a pick. Hey, there's bonus pick. All right, so we got Derek chick, touchdown. Over 52 and a half. Lamar Jackson, over 30.
Connor
Russian.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, I don't know what that is, but he's going to. He can get it on one snap.
Pat McAfee
Okay, Just.
Chuck Pagano
He's out.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. See you.
Chuck Pagano
And what that does to a defensive line. They got Henderson we talked about. Right. Hubbard on the other side. Is it Murphy was their number one pick, number 99 from a year ago, Texas. You get so worried about this guy breaking containment. Hey, lane integrity pass, A.J. you know what I'm talking about. You've been in those meetings, right? And all of a sudden nobody rushes the quarterback. They all run right into the middle of their guy, all right? Press the pocket. And they're sitting there like playing, waiting for bat balls down and keep this guy. And nobody press him. And he's standing back there forever. And if he gets this, if he's standing back there forever, perfect passer ratings. Yeah, 158.3. Yeah, 158.3 last week. 158.3.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
You know how many times he's done it in his career?
Pat McAfee
Five.
Chuck Pagano
They said it on TV last. Yeah, it's a lot.
Pat McAfee
I think it's five. I think it's the most. I think he passed somebody. They did. That's very like passed multiple people.
Chuck Pagano
So you can see run the ball.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, of course.
Chuck Pagano
Defend the run. They're number one, right, red zone scoring. They both really good in the red area. Joey B. On third downs, third in the league. I mean, they're. They're good on offense. They can sling it. But turnover, Mars, they're both in the plus points from last time to score.
Pat McAfee
Well, I remember the field goal thing. Yeah, yeah. Don't want to think about it because, you know, not great, but. But it did happen. And then the Ravens made him pay for it immediately afterwards. Good AFC north matchup.
Chuck Pagano
Remember Lombo's mentioned that they tried to run the ball three times against a bun.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. They didn't thought late in that game.
Chuck Pagano
They tried to run the ball three times into the best run defense in the league.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And it was like a 50 some yard. They were content with it just being like a 50 some yarder, I think. And then when the bobble happens and they set him up with good field position going the other way. Yep.
Chuck Pagano
And you're trusting McPherson, right, who's really good.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. But big Fearson doesn't want that. I mean, McPherson will publicly say, yeah, we're bring it. Gotta make good in there.
Chuck Pagano
Adam Venateri, the whole time he's looking at your hole, they're going, these motherfuckers. Give me some yards.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Vinatieri was very open. I mean, you're talking about greatest of all time conversation. Greatest of all time. Everybody's having that same conversation about him. And I think his message to you was, I don't give a fuck which hash mark it's on, let's not lose yards. That was always his thing. Let's get as many yards as possible. Do you want on the left or right to middle? I don't care. Let's just not lose. Let's gain yards. Because people sacrifice like four or five yards to go get onto like another hash. And it's like, okay, you want a 42 yard or do you want a 36 yard? Like.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, we do those quarterback middle deals, like quarterback left, quarterback right, fully protected, like you're taking a knee, but you're just position it for the, for the kicker and it's a yard. And then you do. They got a timeout. And then you go another yard, then another yard. Okay, just stop with that, please. Just.
Pat McAfee
Because I'll tell you what, those uprights a little bigger whenever we're. We're closer. Because you've seen kicks at the end. Oh, yeah. You know, like any of those ones that hits a yardage is the biggest deal. I think that's the biggest thing that probably pisses off kickers about either play callers or game management people, because in their eyes, cover their ass. I got to the line. What's the line? Get to the 46 or get to 36. Get to the 37. That's the line. So play callers, whoever's doing it. Gets to the line. They're like, I did my job. This guy's a fucking professional. Right? Go hit the. Go hit the kick. And it's like, well, can we get it?
Chuck Pagano
Oh, no, not on me.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I got to the.
Gumpy
You said you're good from 60, 40.
Chuck Pagano
So they got that line on TV. So they, they put that thing out there.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Chuck Pagano
So who's giving them that number?
Pat McAfee
Is it the pre game conversation?
Chuck Pagano
Talk to the coaches? Yeah, this was our, like I'd always like, Midge would always come to me.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Like after warm ups. Okay. Going this way it's the 35. Going this way is the 39.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And that's my decision now.
Chuck Pagano
Did they give that. Are they giving that to the.
Pat McAfee
I think it's like longest made network.
Connor
That's what I. Yeah, I thought it was career long.
Ty Schmidt
I always assume they did that.
Pat McAfee
I think they do a career long. But that doesn't mean that's the line either. No, because it might not happen.
Chuck Pagano
They should do the line. To your point, okay, this is whatever data analytics they use to get it. But this is where he'd really love it.
Pat McAfee
Well, this is percentage made. So like here is the couple lines. Here is the percentages made from this point. Here's the percentage made from this point. Here's a percentage made from this point. Because that would be a little bit more accurate of a depiction, I think. But boy, if you fumble it, trying to gain more yards when you're already infield. Oh, boy. Field, go range. You're the biggest, dumbest piece of. Of all time. Yeah. And coaches know that. Coaches know that. I got to the line. You're Adam veteran. Make the kick.
Connor
Okay, what are we paying you for?
Pat McAfee
What? You have one job, dude, but then do it.
Chuck Pagano
You ask Jim, we're like, hey, it's a quarterback center exchange.
Pat McAfee
I think Dallas is in trouble.
Chuck Pagano
We start worried about big time.
Pat McAfee
They are in big trouble. Okay, let's get back to the game tonight. We see your tail of the tape. We saw the game records. Obviously, great highlights on both AFC north robbery. How you feeling? Where are we going with it?
Chuck Pagano
Do we any difference in the lines or money?
Pat McAfee
Oh, he wants a little bit more piece of information, A.J. i like that Chuck was like, you know what? I'd like a little bit more information. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Surprising. I thought he was locked in.
Ty Schmidt
ESPN bat is six and a half. Everyone everywhere else is at six and the blue one's at five and a half.
Chuck Pagano
And do we know 100%. Do we know yet? I Know T. Higgins because this is. This is huge.
Connor
He's definitely.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Because if he. Because if he plays. He played in the first one. I mean, One guy had 10 catches. He had nine and four tugs between Chase and Higgins, you know, at Cincinnati and they scored. They scored 38. They're 1 and 3 when they don't have him. So that's going to play like. I'm going to lay the. I'm going to lay the points. Okay. With the caveat being like if Higgins for some reason out of nowhere. Because I'm not going to get Pukin to coo it again.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, can't. Especially when your records on the line.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, my records on the line. Six and three. I'm on a freaking two game skid. I stink right now. No, no, I can't make a football.
Pat McAfee
Your pitch stink.
Chuck Pagano
I got this whistle this Lish or shot.
Pat McAfee
That's not recent.
Ernest
That's.
Pat McAfee
That's your life, bro. That's been a long time. I don't hear.
Chuck Pagano
I mean, just figured it out.
Pat McAfee
But if T plays, you would like to bet it was plus six and a half.
Chuck Pagano
But if he plays, Baltimore is going to win a game. But they're going to. They're going to cover.
Pat McAfee
But if T plays, it's probably to plus five and a half. Probably. I don't care. Would that be like a.
Chuck Pagano
Whatever that. Whatever that. Whatever that line is.
Connor
He's not put.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so minus six and a half. You have the Ravens. If T. Higgins plays you like the Bengals.
Chuck Pagano
Well, we had some books said.
Ty Schmidt
Now we go off.
Chuck Pagano
Five and a half.
Pat McAfee
No, no, it's. You gotta do it.
AJ Hawk
What if he only plays for like two series based off.
Chuck Pagano
How about a hook? Can I buy a hook?
Pat McAfee
It's six and a half. It's six and a half.
Chuck Pagano
Can I buy a hook to six?
AJ Hawk
We can't buy a hook.
Pat McAfee
Six and a half.
Connor
Six and a half.
Chuck Pagano
I'll get everybody around the corner that first golf outing. We don't care about golf.
Ty Schmidt
We want the pitch, brother.
Pat McAfee
And we went. We won a Thursday night against the spread. Chuck Pagano special. The line. Six and a half so you could have the hook.
Connor
You're acting like a wuss.
Ty Schmidt
Minus 220.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Does it count as half a pick? Didn't know you were wearing your waffle costume again. Oh, we're getting buttholed.
Chuck Pagano
Well, listen to.
Pat McAfee
What are you gonna be saying?
Chuck Pagano
Mike McDaniel, lover.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I do like my head coach, brother.
Ty Schmidt
I do.
Chuck Pagano
I'd hit you up to that.
Pat McAfee
Geez, I don't got six different teams.
Chuck Pagano
Coach sign up for that.
Pat McAfee
I'm not showing up in a different tarp every day.
Chuck Pagano
We're not talking about anybody but you right now.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's my only team. I don't cheer for anybody else. Just real quick though. I think it does sound like Chuck has given up on the Miami Dolphins. That was a long time ago.
Chuck Pagano
I don't love that Waddle had a yard.
Pat McAfee
All right, well that's misconstrued.
Connor
Okay. He had negative 24 yards on the last play because he was trying to make a play.
Pat McAfee
Remember? Because Tua had his over hit and then.
Connor
And then he ran backwards doing the lateral thing.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So let's. Let's. There's context on these stats.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
I didn't have it all obviously.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Chuck Pagano
Turn the game off.
Pat McAfee
You like the Raven. Close the whole game. What are you talking about?
Chuck Pagano
What the Bills Dolphins like that was ever in question. Make your pick, old man. Oh, don't you start. Gumption.
AJ Hawk
Oh yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Too late, brother.
Pat McAfee
That's gumption. You said gumption purpose. Because it was almost two. Shhh. You like the Ravens minus six and a half.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah. Lamar D. Henry. That offensive line where AQ set him up there big time. Right?
Connor
Again, one of the best.
Chuck Pagano
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Congrats to Ravens getting picked now he's been on a little bit of a cold streak, A.J. but.
Chuck Pagano
But just know he's not playing. That's fine. But I'm wanted out there.
Pat McAfee
You would like people to.
Chuck Pagano
I want people to know that if they inactives come 90 minutes before the kick. So if somehow, some way there's an epiphany you would like and he's out there running around, then Baltimore still win, but they're not going to cover. I'll take the. Take the points.
Pat McAfee
All right. Got it. A.J. how do you feel? You've been on Cincinnati since birth, I think. Right. Actually up there in Centerville, which is part of Dayton, which is near Cincinnati. Obviously grew up as a Cincinnati Reds fan, I believe as a Bengals fan as well. I got to play for the Bengals at the end of your career there. That was a big homecoming. Obviously all the Elks came out and celebrated. Joe Burrow is an Ohio guy leading your team in Ohio. We kind of knew what you were going to do from the beginning, but did you ever even think about taking the Ravens minus five and a half six or six and a half now?
AJ Hawk
Well, when as Chuck is showing the Ravens offense and their defense actually did, I didn't feel great about my Bengals pick, but I'M going to stick with it. I feel like they can find a way. Six and a half feels like a lot. I love how explosive the Bengals offense is, but the Ravens are an absolute wagon. We know that, but give me the Bengals plus six and a half.
Pat McAfee
I'm taking the Bengals plus six and a half as well. If it was five and a half, I would have been on the Ravens at six and a half. I am going to go on the Bengals.
AJ Hawk
Oh, no, Chuck.
Pat McAfee
So this is.
Chuck Pagano
I can.
Pat McAfee
This is good news.
Chuck Pagano
This is two weeks in a row.
Pat McAfee
I've agreed with you.
Chuck Pagano
No.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Bamboozled. Two weeks in. Oh, Gobs. What does he call gobshop?
Pat McAfee
Well, it's been fascinating because it's been quite a quagmire.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, absolutely. It's a quagmire. You know what a quagmire is?
Pat McAfee
Touche. What?
Chuck Pagano
Touche is absolutely right.
Pat McAfee
That's a good question there. All right, Chuck, you're on the Raven.
Chuck Pagano
I feel great about this pick now.
Pat McAfee
You should.
Chuck Pagano
Jesus.
Pat McAfee
Come on. Yeah. Come on. I was on the Ravens very heavily.
Chuck Pagano
Like, you didn't even want.
AJ Hawk
Like.
Chuck Pagano
Like last week. You were the same Aaron Rodgers. Give me the Jazz. Yeah, I knew I was done before I even got to the airport.
Pat McAfee
No, this one I've been thinking about.
AJ Hawk
What was that voice?
Pat McAfee
Six and a half is a lot. Five and a half. I was on Ravens. Five and a half. I was on Ravens. Six and a half. AFC north matchup.
Ty Schmidt
Key number.
Pat McAfee
The Bengals need it. Like, the Bengals need it.
Connor
They've been hot.
Pat McAfee
Not that the Ravens don't. And is Louie and Aruma going to be able to figure it out? I hope so. On the defensive side, but feels like this one's a close game.
Gumpy
7. 77 from the Raiders playing left tackle tonight. If he is, look out.
Chuck Pagano
That's Ronnie Stanley.
Gumpy
Oh, okay.
Connor
Good player.
Pat McAfee
So, no, we don't know if he was traded.
Chuck Pagano
Number 79, actually, who I was talking about.
Pat McAfee
77 is still starting hard boy in here.
Chuck Pagano
I'm getting the beat out of me.
Pat McAfee
Bulletproof. Well, Gump. Gumps is going to. That's going to happen.
Gumpy
Gump is going to. Gump.
Pat McAfee
If it means anything, we had a conversation with Gumps earlier. I don't know if you heard of most of it. Gump needs to get his ass to work.
Connor
Yeah. In a textbook.
Pat McAfee
He needs his head and nose to a textbook. Stat. Yep. Flash cards. Quickly.
Connor
Yeah. Quit.
Pat McAfee
All right, Chuck, you want to do a giveaway, brother?
Chuck Pagano
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
What are we doing? Throwing football. Let's go, Chuck.
Chuck Pagano
Come On Chuck.
Pat McAfee
What you going towards, Chuck?
Chuck Pagano
I'm going over here.
Connor
You made it over here, though. Definitely over there.
AJ Hawk
Don't listen. Don't listen to him.
Pat McAfee
Chuck.
AJ Hawk
Chuck. You take. You trust your instinct.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God, he was so confident.
Gumpy
Okay, he's going this way.
AJ Hawk
Can't hear him.
Pat McAfee
I can't hear him. Okay, listen, let's do this. We'll give 30 people $500 if you put that football into that hoop right over there. Ty Schmidt actually has a word of mo motivation for you.
Gumpy
Let's go.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Today's your first day of the rest of your life, okay?
Gumpy
You can pitter patter about what we've. We've already talked about, or you can go put the football in that hoop.
Pat McAfee
Okay?
Gumpy
Be like S.H.
Pat McAfee
Sanders of the Colorado Buffalo.
Gumpy
Colorado Buffalo. Got it.
AJ Hawk
Oh, good luck, though. Good luck.
Connor
Telling you.
Pat McAfee
That's. Do you still want to go there this way or do you want to go that way? Staying. Okay. Connor. Who? Okay. All right, 30 people, 500 I gotta do is put that football into that hoop right over there. Connor, any words of wisdom?
Connor
Just sling it. Just sling it. Trust your instincts. Chuck.
Pat McAfee
Throw the pill. Chuck Pagano. Oh, my God. It looked like it was in, but it was not. That was short, you see, but you're right on. You know, sometimes when you're golfing at a country club, you can get on and there's a spot you can be in the vicinity, but not in the hole. That means the next one's going in. Ain't that right, Evan? And how it works? Yeah, it's 100% how it works, Coach. You just got to throw that thing in there. Keep going. Keep swinging through it. Yep, 30 people. Oh, thought we're gonna miss it because foxy was in the middle of his motivational speech and the camera's on the back room, but we actually got it in time. Tone Diggs has something to say to fellow python.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Coach, I don't care if you like these boys or not boys, but you will come together and respect them as men. And maybe, just maybe, we'll learn to play this game of football.
Pat McAfee
That's right. That football too, is the one we're going to try to play into that hoop right over there. 30 people, $500, Chuck.
Connor
Oh, my God.
AJ Hawk
That look like it was in.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Wow.
AJ Hawk
Did that go in?
Gumpy
That had to have gone in.
AJ Hawk
That looked like it from my angle.
Pat McAfee
That did not go.
Connor
It did not.
AJ Hawk
You want to deliver lot.
Connor
I was very surprised when no one else celebrated.
Pat McAfee
I thought we were all celebrating.
Connor
I thought we were all celebrating.
Pat McAfee
I do not think that went in. No.
Connor
I don't know.
Pat McAfee
That was weird. I think. I feel like I had a good eye on it.
Connor
I thought that went in for sure. That's why I was like celebrating and no one else did.
Pat McAfee
We're getting a replay of it.
Gumpy
Okay.
Pat McAfee
I think. I believe it was like a perfect miss.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Connor
What?
Ty Schmidt
I think it was the sound that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And also the net pop, too. Yeah.
Connor
What the hell?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Here we go. We got a replay on the back here.
Connor
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Drained it. Drained it right up over the front.
Michael Lombardi
Right.
Pat McAfee
Right under the rim.
Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I don't think so. I don't. What? I do not think so. The front. It went down here.
AJ Hawk
Drilled it.
Pat McAfee
I feel like I have a pretty good eye on it. Yeah. I feel like I. I am at altitude. You know. Obviously the country musicians came. All right. Oh, my God.
AJ Hawk
If Chuck would have celebrated, we would have believed him.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yep. That's. Yeah.
Gumpy
There it is.
Pat McAfee
He's going to summon the power of the Colorado Buffalo and Coach Prime. If you can put that football into that hoop right over there, 30 people will win $500. It may be a college football playoff spot.
Connor
Only air ball.
Gumpy
Now you're guiding it. Now you're guiding.
Pat McAfee
He's been kind of just.
Connor
Just humming.
Pat McAfee
Hold on now. Gumpy in the back has a word, a message for you. Yeah, Coach. You look great. Go Buffalo. Big game this weekend. Just like you. You can sink this shot, brother. That's right.
Chuck Pagano
Come on.
Pat McAfee
I've never heard something so goddamn motivating. He overthrows it. He was so jacked up. Got him too. Jacked up, AJ Hawks in Ohio. Obviously he's wanted everything he's ever done. A.J. anything to say to Colorado Buffalo super fan Chuck Pagano?
AJ Hawk
Chuck, let's make a second one. We know you already made one today. Let's make another one.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. I don't know that you already made one today.
AJ Hawk
I think he did for Tina and Connie.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And Peach.
Connor
It's constant.
Gumpy
Exactly.
AJ Hawk
Happy birthday.
Chuck Pagano
Program's going where I want. Cincinnati too.
Pat McAfee
Oh, okay. Wow. Oh, wow.
Connor
See your wrong thing.
Ernest
What's going on?
Connor
Focus on the shot.
Pat McAfee
$500. Chuck Pagano. What accounted if it would one in. What accounted if it went in just like that other one.
Ty Schmidt
Last one.
Connor
Stop focusing on the picks. Focus on throwing that damn pace. Get into the hoop.
Pat McAfee
Listen, take a little drop.
AJ Hawk
Take a little three step drop.
Pat McAfee
Shos.
Gumpy
Yeah, maybe a shut.
Pat McAfee
All right, Chuck, this has been. It's been out of control.
Chuck Pagano
36 is the mic.
Pat McAfee
30 Chevy safety so happened, I believe, whenever his ears. I believe river got those devices that are not on the stage today. Thank God there's none of that. Nope. There's no whistling from the lights.
Connor
No.
Pat McAfee
Shout out to Brett, I think his name was climbing up on this thing tonight or today. And Tim McAfee on this thing last night. Shout out to the power people that came by, hooked up the power, the H Vac people that stop by. The air conditioner's working. The air conditioner is working.
Chuck Pagano
Boy, is it ever. I don't know what ac. But yeah, shout out to them because they got it humming.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they do. And you know what? For all the great things that happened today at the Thunderdome, there's one final thing that can make it possibly the. The best day of all time. Hell, yeah. All you gotta do is put that football into that hoop right over there. 50 people. 500.
Chuck Pagano
Can I trade this for a black one ball?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Would that be.
Connor
Yeah, this guy.
Chuck Pagano
Come on, man.
Connor
I mean, he's just ruining the vibe. You're messing up the mojo, man.
AJ Hawk
This one's going in.
Pat McAfee
There's two different versions of this ball here.
Gumpy
Want the one that's a little more sticky?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Do you want the. The fatter old school one?
Chuck Pagano
Whoever one you give is going in. Doesn't matter.
Pat McAfee
Boom.
Connor
I like that. Bang.
Pat McAfee
Skinny one. 50 people. $500 in the shades.
Connor
Guided it the whole way as soon as it was.
Pat McAfee
It's hard shot as soon as it.
Connor
Came off his hand.
Pat McAfee
All right, Chuck. Well, your pick's gonna be great. We bet.
Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I know the pick's gonna be good. It's gonna be really good before we get out of here.
Chuck Pagano
Jesus.
Pat McAfee
Jesus. Crushed. Before we get out of here. Obviously, it's a massive day here at the Thunderdome because of everything we just said getting fixed. And we appreciate everybody that stopped out here and did, you know good blue collar work this morning, Grace? Hell, yeah, we appreciate them all. We appreciate Chuck traveling out here doing. Doing great stuff with us, Chuck.
Gumpy
Thanks for calling me.
Pat McAfee
Well, better if you get the picture. And hopefully tonight that'll be the case in the back. Great work today, boys. Talks to table. Really crush today, Tone. Way to go. Can't wait to listen to Hammer. Don, between you and Gumpy and Bruce and the other man that's part of that particular program is he's celebrating a birthday.
AJ Hawk
No way.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, it is Mitt's birthday. Wow. So because it's Mitt's birthday, normally he holds the cake. We actually have Dumb and Dumber brother Talk delivering the cake. Happy birthday to you.
Ernest
Happy birthday.
Pat McAfee
Happy birthday. Don't drop it. Way to go talk. Way to go talk. Happy birthday. All right. Way to go talk.
Connor
Happy birthday, man. Way to go talk walking.
Pat McAfee
Happy birthday, Mitt.
Chuck Pagano
You know why?
Pat McAfee
Proud of you, buddy. They have the same shoes. The fact that Talk got that cake over here without dropping it is crazy modern.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Miracle.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I just learned of a story that happened on Friday where I guess chicken and sauce went flying because he tripped over. Over a chair when he didn't have to. He's trying to avoid.
Connor
I was there.
Pat McAfee
I was there.
AJ Hawk
The slowest fall. No, I was on the other side of the window. I thought two guys were in a scuffle. They were getting a fight and he was just slowly falling down.
Pat McAfee
Allegedly, Connor had his arm out like this and he was trying to avoid it while holding chicken to go to the trash can. And he wants to take a step and he stepped on a chair, obviously. Yeah. You don't know that's happening. Connor's not touching him.
Ty Schmidt
Nope.
Pat McAfee
And allegedly we go down and chicken goes flying and sauce goes flying in the sky and then. Yeah, exactly. He's. He's a weapon of mass destruction that truly talk and talk. Admit for Mitts birthday. Actually wore the same shoes today. Awesome. That's cool. Those two are really simple. Yeah. Have you ever seen two dudes just fit better?
Gumpy
No, I haven't.
Pat McAfee
They need to be on the Amazing Race. Yes.
Connor
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Need to be on a mate. We need to send him somewhere just to go. Let the world experience all time. There's mate right there combing his beard. Happy birthday.
Connor
He doesn't know. Now he does.
Pat McAfee
Thank you. Go.
Ernest
Yeah, go.
Pat McAfee
The Lakers aren't going to win if LeBron's going to do all the work. And the Cowboys suck. JJ Reddick's calling out DLO already. Jesus Christ. Happy birthday, man.
AJ Hawk
Happy birthday, man.
Pat McAfee
Welcome back, jc. Great to see you. All right, let's get the hell out of here. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice might change your life. We're in this thing together. Let's never forget it. Team on me. Team on three. Go work today, Chuck. One, two, three. Team.
Gumpy
Goodbye.
