Pat McAfee
Hello, beautiful people and welcome to our humble abode, the Thunderdome. On this Aaron Rodgers. Tuesday, November 12, 2024 this program starts now. Football. It's amazing. And congrats to the Dolphins big win last night. On Monday Night Football they move to three and six. They get a massive win over the Rams. And don't look now, with Tua back at quarterback, that offense is able to move, the defense is able to get some stops and in a big spot on Monday night in Los Angele, the Miami Dolphins come out victorious on a wonderful Monday Night Football matchup. For a quick take on that, let's go to 1/2 of the Hammer. Cowboys. Bubba Gumpino. Gumpy. Congrats to your Dolphins brother.
Ty Schmidt
Three and six Raiders and Patriots coming up at home. Be five and six heading to Green Bay for Thanksgiving.
Pat McAfee
Okay, five and six in a couple of weeks if you're able to get those wins. You're talking about maybe a playoff spot here. Gump says what it sounds like.
Ty Schmidt
Gotta go on a run, boys.
Pat McAfee
If not now, then we are cooked.
Ty Schmidt
Defense looked unreal last night.
Pat McAfee
Who else in the AFC are you guys competing with for that seven seed to sneak in for the wild card?
Ty Schmidt
Bengals, Colts and Broncos.
Pat McAfee
Oh, good luck because Colts found something. The Colts found something. Big news out of. Congrats to the Dolphins though.
AJ Hawk
Legit.
Pat McAfee
That's huge. Life is really good. I got a chance to watch the Dolphins play against Colts a few weeks ago. That was terrible and that was very tough to watch. Obviously Dolphins fans thought maybe two was never going to come back and play for a bit. And they had this PTSD like the last hundred years of being a Dolphins fan, of never being able to win. And now all of a sudden you get a little bit of a spark. Tyreek Hill ends up with a tough. I saw Odell Beckham Jr. Catch ball and then Lariat Tyreek Hill after he got the touchdown. You know, had everybody moving most dirt, got in the second half, saw two hands on the ball. I mean, you're talking about maybe the Dolphins are able to go on a run. Good luck to you. You know, a team that might go on a run. Who's that team just fired? Our offense coordinator.
Darius Butler
Yeah, sure.
Pat McAfee
Chicago Bears have officially removed Shane Waldron as the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears as of this morning. Eberflusse spoke yesterday and obviously he had a lot to say and he said Shane is our offense coordinator as of this morning. I guess they had more meetings, more conversations. Shane Waldron act as the OC for the Chicago Bears. Let's go back to this off season when Jackson, Smith and Jigbo was speaking with the Chicago talk show and they asked about Shane Waldron, who obviously was the offense coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks last year. Jackson, Smith and Jigbo obviously on the Seattle Seahawks. So bright question would be, what are we getting here? Let's take a listen. Bears fans are super interested about the.
Darius Butler
Offensive coordinator coming in, Shane Waldron.
Pat McAfee
What can you tell them about who they just hired to try to get this offense where it needs to go?
AJ Hawk
This is live.
Pat McAfee
We're not live.
AQ Shipley
We're not playing.
AJ Hawk
Good luck to you.
Pat McAfee
I mean, he's a great. How it started in Jackson Smith and Jigbo was out. He's young, rookie. Okay, so what does he know? Who knows? But I think what a lot of people in Seattle knew is the offense wasn't fantastic. So then there was a lot of chatter this morning on the morning shows on ESPN about how nobody really wanted to go in there and be the oc, you know, Eber fluss. How long of a leash does he have as the Chicago Bears head coach? You have a lot of weapons, don't have an offensive line. Well, let's look at some of the stats we got obviously about the Chicago Bears offense thus far. Highest sack rate in the NFL, 10.7% of the drop backs, 28th in explosive play rate, 4.2% of the plays, 23rd in success rate on first down. And then obviously they've scored an NFL low 10 points in the first quarter across 22 drives. Now there's a lot more stats. That's to say that they stink. I think we all see that offense line. Not fantastic. The sacks, is that on the O line, all of them, or is it on Caleb? I think he got sacked like nine times last week. Whatever the case is, 35 sacks total. I mean it is a lot of times him being tackled. Is it because of him? Is it because the offensive line? Is it because of the plays? Nobody's open. Who knows? But what they did know is that Shane Waldron can't be the guy in control of this offense anymore. Let's go to nine year NFL vet, host of everything, db, Good D, Bad D. Ladies and gentlemen, Darius J. Butler is here looking very cool D. Butch, what are your thoughts on the move? I think expected. Yeah, I think is a good way to describe it. But is this something that's going to turn their season around or at least the future?
AQ Shipley
I mean, we kind of saw this coming. It's hard to say. Turning the future around or turning, you know, turning things around. Even this season you still got the same personnel. How much can the new oc Thomas Brown, who was their past game coordinator, he was previously in Carolina with Frank Wright, with Bryce Young. And so when you get these young quarterbacks, okay, that make them feel good, rewind first and foremost.
Ty Schmidt
Okay?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AQ Shipley
But there's been some good things said from the people in the building. I know that's been around. Thomas Brown, big accountability guy, which we obviously know we need that. But for the quarterbacks, man, it always starts with protection. First and foremost, you got to have the protection up front. Some of the things, I don't know what's going on in the building. Some of the things are obviously on Caleb Williams. A lot of people are saying Caleb is, you know, regressing. He's played 10, 10 games in the National Football League. This is kind of who he is right now as a quarterback. Obviously we know he's talented, but you got to have protection so that you can actually get some use and production out of those great weapons that they do have. Outside but off target throws, spacing. Not a bunch of defined throws and reads for Caleb right now. So hopefully they can fix that and see, you know, what he can really do with his talent.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, allegedly there was a couple meetings ever had by veteran players that went and spoke to polls Andy Eberfluss and asked for Shane Waldron's removal. This ain't okay. We ain't doing this guy. How come whenever they put what our offense looks like on camera or in like a, ours looks so stupid and then everybody else's looks so awesome. That's because Shane Waldron. And then allegedly there was also some people saying like, hey, maybe Tyler the bagman, the bag, the bag. Bajan, the world's strongest. Yeah, allegedly that was a report out of Wato and Sylvie, which I believe is a very legit show out of Chicago. Right, Zito? Yep. Been around a long time. Sylvie Watto and Sylvie Sports Radio. After talking to a few people with knowledge of the situation, players went to Eberluce and Ryan Polis asked him to make a change. Offensive coordinator. There have also been a few veteran players requesting that Bajan starts, you know, and obviously we watch Hard Knocks. We got a chance to learn about Bajan, his dad and everything like that. Are they asking for Bajan to. Because they think Caleb needs just watch for a little bit. Like, hey, we think he's been thrusted into a situation where it hasn't gone well. He's getting his ass Beat out there, sacked more than anybody else in the NFL. We're already through one offense coordinator. Is there a chance maybe for Caleb just to sit back and watch and see kind of how this whole thing goes, takes a deep breath and moves forward? Are they saying that or are they saying, we don't think this guy's got it? We would like Tyler Bejan to come in and find out if he's got it. There's multiple different ways you can look at it because obviously there's a bunch of different situations that have happened in the past around the NFL. Let's just look at this year. Bryce Young gets benched for Andy Dalton this year, gets a different perspective at it. For the first time in his life, he's not the guy that's expected to do everything for a program, be a quarterback of the organization, in the meetings, in practice, in the cafeteria, in the locker, everywhere. You know, you're the starting quarterback. It's a different game. He got a chance to sit back, watch it, reevaluate, take a breath. I think you probably got a chance to take a breath and now he gets back in. They're winning games, Panthers are winning game. All of a sudden it's a vastly different situation. You look at Anthony Richardson with what's going on right now with Joe Flacco, will he take this a chance to take a breath and take a perspective change, learn a little bit, kind of realize it's a little different game than whenever he goes back. Is he going to benefit from it? Is that why they're pitching for him, not to play? Or is it because they think he stinks? Because there are stats that come out in. Any rebuttal from Caleb Williams or his camp would be, have you seen who's protected for him? No offense has ever been good without a good offensive line. But there's a lot of stats coming out that maybe, you know, the reason why the offensive line is bad is because sometimes he doesn't make the right decision. And then when he doesn't make the right decision, plays extended and, and he can't do as much of that shit as you did in college. So then you're gonna get sacked. There's always gonna be counter arguments in this entire thing. But whenever you talk about off target throws and everything like this, what do you think Shane Waldron is saying today? Do you think Shane Waldron is saying, well, I was supposed to have a guy that was supposed to be a magic man. They're calling him Patrick Mahomes. He's not Patrick Mahomes or do you think he understands that him was just, he was just not a great offensive coordinator for any of the situations?
AQ Shipley
Yeah, I mean he's young. Like we always go back. Like it's hard to play the National Football League. I don't care where you drafted number one, 100, 150, like it's tough to come in and play. And Shane did a good job with Geno Smith, but Geno Smith was somewhat of the high pick. I think the second round pick had been around, had been a backup, had seen things have been in different systems, different meeting rooms around different quarterbacks. So when he got to Seattle and had another opportunity, he had saw it from so many different perspectives. So for Caleb Williams, as talented as he is in this big pedestal, high pedestal that a lot of us put him on coming into the league, especially with the setup that they had in Chicago, we just expected more. But it's tough to come in this league and play and play well. We've seen flashes. I've seen enough to know okay, he can play on this level. He has the physical tools, not only the mobility but the arm strength, the accuracy, all those different things. But you just gotta learn, you gotta go through some of these patches. Same thing with Anthony Richardson, same thing with Bryce Young. And then some of these guys will come out and be better on the other side. So, you know, hopefully that's what we see here with Caleb you hate because we see this story so many times with young quarterbacks. You know, you get to year three, year four, and they've been through four or five different coordinators or different voices. So that's tough to get some continuity there. But I think the future is still bright for Caleb for sure.
Pat McAfee
So Caleb, regardless of what happens, unless old buddy comes in and just kills it and operates the same offense that Shane Waldron was operating, which he wouldn't because that offense was obviously terrible. So next year he's going to be on his third offense in three years, right? Because Lincoln Riley, usc, then this one, then the next year and let's say they don't figure out the offensive line or that offense isn't great. What are you going to have to do? Well, he's number one overall pick, so we're going to have to make. Then he's going to be in his fourth offense in four years and then all of a sudden if they do have success next year, let's say they do have success next year while that offense coordinator is getting plucked, go somewhere he's going to be it's like a never ending supply of. You're going to have to adapt and get things right early. Now, I think what 1/2 of the Hammer Cowboys AP Tone's face just lit up about is because this is the eighth member of Ibrah's coaching staff that has either resigned or been fired in the last 14 months. Okay. So normally whenever you're standing in the middle of a fire, inevitably it's going to catch up. Of course, you know, you can kind of get the couch, it's on fire. Get it out of us. Sure. You can get the recliner out of us. You can get maybe the cabinets or whatever, you can get them out. But inevitably that thing is going to, you know, you can do this a lot and then it's going to at some point come this way. So I think a lot of people in Chicago are potentially expecting head coaching change at the end of this season. And if they do that, who do they go get? Is it a guy that maybe is no longer the cock of the walk at the university in which he is the head coach and knows Caleb very, very well in Lincoln Riley? Or is it a guy who has been an offensive coordinator in college at usc, has been a head coach in the NFL before and is now leading a rookie quarterback to another historic season in Cliff Kingsbury? Is it Ben Johnson? Is it Slowik? There's a lot of opportunity out there, but nonetheless all of it kind of revolves around another offense coming in next year for Caleb Williams. Third and three.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, because of what you said where, you know, you talked about does the is the OC successful and then OC leaves. That's why, you know, we love flu, but obviously they're going to make a change.
Pat McAfee
We love flu. I don't think Chicago. Yeah, they're going to make a change. They don't. They're sick of his beard.
Ty Schmidt
Because of what you said. It has to be an offensive guy because you can't risk where bringing in a defensive head coach and that OC then gets blocked and then Caleb's got another OC in there and it has to be Ben Johnson. You have to back up the track for like offer him $20 million a year. Who cares if it doesn't work out, whatever, you're going to have to pay a new coach anyways. Go get Ben Johnson and make it happen.
Pat McAfee
Zito just told me. Here's another fun fact. Zito, Chicago Bears fan. He said the only coach that is still around with IBRA flu from the beginning now is the offensive line coach and they're great.
Conner
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AQ Shipley
Wow.
Pat McAfee
Great. That's what just came. Just another thing to think about. The only coach is still there is the offensive line coach. Offensive line obviously very. Is what Zito, He's Chicago Bears fan. That's what he just said. And yep, there it is. So I think that's how they're feeling as a whole. You win a game though, obviously this subsides for another week. But if you lose and it looks bad and people are worried about the future being ruined too, because remember, not a lot of quarterbacks have come through Chicago.
Darius Butler
No, no, no.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Not a lot of number one overall picks. I like this have come through Chicago and it's like we finally get a guy that's supposed to be a guy and then we're going to ruin him again. I don't think so. That's how Bears fans are feeling right now, I think.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, that's the thing too. And like, of course the offensive line is a problem. They give up nine sacks. That's terrible. But you know, the Patriots have statistically the worst or second worst offensive line in all football. I mean they've had 11 different, you know, lineups in or 10 different lineups, I guess in 10 games, whatever it is. But every Monday I come in here and I'm like, Drake May is so good at football no matter what. And his old line also very, very terrible. But like, you don't get that from Caleb. I feel like, like I feel great about Drake May because he can do stuff like this and he's making great throws all over the field.
Pat McAfee
And that's on time right there. That's what I mean, on time where it's supposed to go. Throwing where only his guy could catch it. And guys covered. Yeah, let's still throw it and put it into a place where only my guy could catch it. It's those moments.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, in a spot. And it's not like he's throwing to DJ Moore and Keenan Allen and you know, 9th overall, 10th overall, Roma, Dunze, Cole, Comet, guys who are paid at weapons. He's throwing to Austin hooper on a one year deal. K.J. osborne, one year deal, pop Douglas in his second year. Like I think that is another why Bears fans are so upset because they've paid all these weapons. Obviously the offensive line is not good. Also paid the running back. Like I think it's more so just because of the like the third and five at the feet or the second and eight sailing it over the head like that. Also I feel as though just because I Just watched it, you know, and I was in the suite and I was, you know, looking left and right like, holy hell, this guy stinks compared to Drake, man. Obviously he doesn't stink. I do think, you know, Shane Waldron 13 years ago was coaching my high school team and they went five. You know, I think that is another thing that has to be considered. But when you're just watching a football, hashtag stack that Buckingham, Brown and Nichols, Cambridge, Massachusetts, you can look it up ISO best league in New England.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but Shane didn't win there.
AJ Hawk
He did not win there. They went five and three. And a lot of people say that is one of the best high school football teams ever assembled. Also completely true.
Darren Rizzi
Not.
AJ Hawk
Not even kidding. But the, it's the little things from Caleb.
Pat McAfee
This guy is suck since the beginning. That's what he.
AJ Hawk
And of course, like, I'm not saying guys, you know, in 10 years aren't unbelievable. Like Kevin O'Connell, he said on the Flacco mic'd up, he's like, I started coaching 11 years ago and you know, here you are still playing and Kevin O'Connell, great head coach, you know, definitely a QB whisperer, quarterback guru, offensive genius. It's just like maybe it didn't work out for Shane Walter and we're kind of seeing it. But I think the Ty. What are you blaming the O line's tough.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I agree. Blaming the O line for anything is obviously going to be difficult to have a hard job. But whenever you see these stats of how many sacks it is, it's hard not to be like, well this guy can't be protected. But then you watch some of the highlights and it's like, like is that guy open right now who you're supposed to throw to? But you're deciding to go through the.
AQ Shipley
Entire thing and it's like what he's been taught. Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Shane telling him. Yeah.
AQ Shipley
And then like you said with the guy yesterday on the field goal block, like once you have that bleeder, once you find that fish or flaw of protection or hey, they're having problems with this, you know, post snap rotation. Like defensive coordinators going to keep cooking up. We always talk about, hey, when you have a book on a guy that's veteran guys, so especially when you have a rookie and you keep putting these different things in front of them on money, downs, play action, all these different things, it's like, okay, now you start seeing ghosts, things start happening fast. Defensive coordinates start giving you okay, make you win with your left hand like that. That's Tough to do. So you gotta have that protection sometimes. It's a big help for young quarterbacks to have like a veteran in front, like a Jason Kelsey or a guy in front of you. Smart, that can call out all the possessions, handle all that shit. Hey, you deal with reading these guys down the field. I'll deal with the protections in front. So it's tough. It's allowing to play. That's why these guys getting paid 50, 60 million dollars a year.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. In quarterback position is obviously the one that the entire team is going to have to be built around. I have to have to be built around. And I think they thought they did. A lot of people calling for poles, too, because of all the weapons. That's what I mean.
Darius Butler
Like, we can make all these excuses.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so this is why you were looking the way.
Darius Butler
Yeah, exactly. Because again, I grew up around a shitload of Bears fans. Know a lot of Bears fans, like, it's been the same thing for 10 years. Like, we, we. So, like, it's an organizational thing. So, like, all these coaches come in and the same thing happens. But a lot of people are saying, like, hey, until the McCaskey family sells the team, like, it doesn't matter because they won't actually hire an actual football person to come in and kind of overhaul everything. Like, we're in the same position. You drafted Trubisky number two overall. You go through two coaches. Hey, these guys can't. Like when the, when the coaches can't make him work and you get another one and then it just turns to, okay, well, the quarterback sucks. Get him. Get him out of there. You draft another one. One and then two coaches don't work. Okay, these guys suck, but the quarterback sucks, too. Let's get rid of him. And then you get Caleb, who it's like, well, this guy can't suck. He's a generational talent and we have all these weapons. And like, to your point about the. It's like, hey, maybe think of that in the off season. Maybe like, let's. Let's get some. Some vets on the offensive line so we don't have to just put everything on this guy's shoulders. So when he's in a tough division and things inevitably get hard and like, they're getting their ass kick, it's not just like, well, we can't do this. You know, I mean, like, they should have. They should have restarted before they drafted Caleb. Like, I understand Eber Fluss was doing well. They should have fired him last year and they should have Got an offensive minded guy and redone the whole thing.
Pat McAfee
So Dan Quinn goes to Washington. He brings in Cliff Kingsbury though for Jaden Daniels obviously works out very well. Gerard Mayo, defensive coach with Drake May up there, brings in Alex Van Pelt who has worked in the offense before. Eberflusse getting the top. These are all the top three picks obviously. Eberflusse brings in Shane Waldron, legend, the guy, he was 25th in pass protection I think last year for the Seattle Seahawks as well, which obviously something to think about. What did you expect? Here's some stats from Hembo about Caleb Williams in the offensive line potentially not being a problem. Okay. Caleb Williams took nine sacks against a Patriots defense against which no other QB took more than three. Okay, so that's saying maybe still offensive line. Caleb Williams is the only quarterback to take 15 sacks in a two game span this season. Wow, that's a lot of hits there. He leads the NFL with 19 sacks when his O line records a pass block win when it comes to stats. Okay, so he leads the NFL with that 19 of them. Whenever the offensive line is considered a win by stats people. So you take that however you want. He co leads with the NFL DeSean Watson with 27 sacks on extended drop backs which is four plus seconds after the snap. Okay, so 27 of these sacks are four plus seconds. He got 35. I think it's total. So that's a lot of, that's a lot of that. And then obviously Chicago, the last two games against Arizona, New England, 23 drives, zero touchdowns and all that could potentially be real. Those are stats from Hembo right there. So 27 sacks on four plus second place. Interesting. Joining now is a man who I assume just heard that and his skin started crawling. A guy who only wants to block for two and a half seconds. Ladies and gentlemen, Super bowl champion, 12 year NFL vet, host of the OG in the trenches show. Oh yeah, AQ ship. What do these stats mean that I just read? What, what matters? What doesn't matter. Obviously stats, people deciding if the offensive line won or lost is certainly something, but that four plus second sack thing, that's the biggest, the most telling one. Or does their offensive line suck?
Conner
That literally just made my head explode.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Made my head explode. All right.
Conner
Whenever you hear four seconds, that's on the quarterback, like you can't sit there and expect anybody to hold up for four seconds. Obviously you have a running quarterback. You have a guy that comes from a college system where maybe he can get through progress, he can sit back there for 4, 5, 6, 7 seconds. Can't happen in the NFL. Just can't happen. And you can't blame that on the offensive line. Ball has to get out, get your read, get your progression. Back foot hits the ground, one hot, one hitch forward. Ball's got to be out, like, right there. Like, even that. Like, I'd rather you throw the ball away and not have a sack. Like, the offensive line. Skin's crawling whenever you see these.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so Shane Waldron's fault for not teaching this and letting him know that this is how this is. Like, how much of the blame do you think is on oc? And I know we're not in the building, so we don't know what the play calls are. We're not in the building. We don't know any of this. But OC can definitely take a lot of the heat for this. Or. No, I mean, I think it's more.
Conner
On the quarterback coach than anybody else.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Conner
The OC is the one putting the game plan together. He's putting the scheme in. And then at the end of the day, like, the quarterback coach has to sit there and be like, hey, listen, like, if you don't like it by 1, 2, okay, let's throw this thing away and live to fight another down.
Pat McAfee
Interesting. Do you think changing of offense coordinator in the middle of the season is good for Caleb? Bad for Caleb?
Conner
I think any type of change. I mean, listen, like, I mean, a lot of these. The offensive line is on edge like that right there. That's clearly on the offensive line. But if we're sitting back there and we got a wall protected and he's sitting back there, three, four seconds, like, that ball has to get out. Either get it to a guy or get it throw it away, period.
Pat McAfee
Shane Waldron's offense has not been good with protecting the quarterback over the last two years. As the stats we see. Is there a chance that it's really hard to find people that are good at coaching? Coaching?
Conner
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And.
Conner
And here's the thing, because everybody's making.
Pat McAfee
Fun of the Bears right now, right? Everybody's making fun of the Bears for this entire thing. It's like, there's a lot of coaches that get fired, and there's a lot of people that are supposed to be experts, and there's a lot of people that are very good, good coaches other places and then come in and they stink. It's like, if I think finding good coaches is not easy, I think it's a very, very difficult thing to do, personally.
Conner
The biggest thing that I keep talking about all the time, right, Like Shane Walden comes from a place where he has assistance system. That system may not necessarily fit a Caleb Williams. And so that's where it does fall on the offensive coordinator, right? Like you have to adjust and adapt to your personnel, period. And that's what makes good coaches. You can't sit here and run a Marcus Mariota offense with a statue quarterback. Like, it just not. It's not going to work, right? And so if you have a guy, you have to use his skill set and you have to find what works. And if we're sitting there just doing the same thing over and over and over again and it's not working, we have to find a way to adapt and become a better football team. And that falls on the offensive coordinator. And that's why I think there's a change. The biggest thing we talk about though, all the time is midseason, 10 weeks into the season. Terminology is already put in, plays are already put in. These guys understand you're not going to sit there if something's too jet as the protection. Like we're not coming in and changing the protections. We're still running two jets. So now that falls on the players, right? You can only blame so many people before it becomes a problem and then we can. And then, then it falls on the head coach.
Pat McAfee
Eight coaches have been fired or resigned from EFLU staff and last 14 months, the Bears have scored. This guy was NFL super bowl champion coach. That's right. That's right. Player coach. He was Jackie Moon. This guy coach Bucks and played for the Bucks. Won a Super Bowl.
AJ Hawk
Unreal.
Pat McAfee
Bald Jackie Moon. Two rings, short arms.
Aaron Rodgers
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Jackie Moon. The Bears have scored an NFL low 10 points in the first quarter across 22 drives. Who's that on? How's that work?
Conner
That's. That's execution. That's on the coordinator, period. Because you script your first 15 plays, that is something you work on all week. That is your best 15 plays of the game, plan to go out and execute and score. I also, I mean, the Eagles have this same statistic, like they weren't scoring.
Darius Butler
On the first drive forever.
Conner
That comes down to preparation. That comes down to game plan. That is all.
Pat McAfee
Easy, easy, easy, easy, easy, easy. Sirianni's got the boys up there. Yeah, Eagles are playing great. Yeah, they are. They're seven two. Everybody forgets.
AQ Shipley
And they got a good. They got a good old line. This may make AQ skin crawl a little bit, but. But I don't think there Aren't very many good offensive lines in the league right now, period. You know what I mean? So, like, obviously, the Bears are one of the bunches, but Eagles, you know, they're on AQ's list. Detroit's, Baltimore. Like, outside of that, I mean, Cardinals, I think they're playing pretty good. So, like, that's what, five, six, maybe? Aq. What you. What you think about the O line play, I guess, across the league?
Conner
Yeah, it's down. There's no question about that. And I think that, again, we go back to the college game, right? I don't think they're preparing these guys for this level.
Pat McAfee
And so.
Conner
So, db, we had this conversation last week. I mean, like, I come up with the top five every week. I mean, honest to God, some weeks you got your three, your main stays, right? It's going to be Ravens, Lions, and Eagles.
Pat McAfee
Right?
Conner
Like, that's your mainstays. Commanders are probably in there as number four. Right? And then Cardinals are probably your top five. But if any one of those have a down week, I'm struggling to find four and five for the week.
Pat McAfee
All right.
AJ Hawk
Yikes.
Pat McAfee
So maybe it isn't just the other line's bad. We got to be bad because it feels like everybody's dealing with that issue except for the teams that are going to be around in the end. That's literally.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Have we figured out who already is going to be left strictly because of how they protect and how they can do it? Possibly. How come more teams don't pay attention to it? How come that's not a focal point of building a team? We talked to Coach Harbaugh. You talked to Belichick yesterday. He was like, well, I don't think Belichick said. I don't think Chicago wanted to be a tough, physical team. Their first investment was a wide receiver and at running back. And then they do this hardball goes in there, offense, line. Give me two tackles. The first pick is going to be this. This is exactly how we're doing it. It almost sets the tone for the entire team. Like, hey, hey, this is what we care about right here.
AJ Hawk
You had to get under the cap who they get rid of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and they kept Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack instead.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, like, hey, just. Just so we're all clear, this is. This is how this is going.
Darius Butler
O line, D line, huh?
AQ Shipley
Drafted Jo with neighbors Rome and those guys on the board.
Pat McAfee
Hey, Q. If you guys had better personalities, maybe more people would respect the offense. That's the entirety of it. I just want to let you know. Okay.
Aaron Rodgers
All right.
Pat McAfee
Thanks for joining us. Thank you. Have a good one. See you Thursday or Wednesday. See you tomorrow. And the four plus second stat. I wish we would had his face up there. Yeah. So. Because obviously I was reading it as it came in there and just listen to him before this. A punt. How long are we. How long is this play going to last? Yeah. And some of those I saw though, I mean they were just running scot free.
AJ Hawk
There were a few for definitely. But like the one where he's rolling out to the left, that is supposed to be what, like a quick throw and then instead of throwing it away, he just holds onto it and takes a sack.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And it's like, like we wondered, I very loudly wondered, can Caleb do Caleb shit in the NFL? Because the Caleb magic stuff that he was doing in college, which was sick, electrifying, must watch. We're talking high stepping out of sacks, moving around people. I mean, just every week it was something going crazy. Can he do that against grown, grown men? Best. The best who were the fastest men that have been drafted for. From each draft class for the last 15 years. Can. Will he be able to pull it off whenever there's people who are getting paid millions of dollars? Not that it isn't happening in college, but not everywhere. Millions and millions of dollars to try to stop you. And is it going to happen against guys who are 280 pounds somehow running four fours? Like, is he still going to be able to do it? I think he still does have the magic in there. I still think the Caleb Williams thing exists, but he's going to have to tamper it. And I think if an offense coordinator doesn't match him or want him to do his, it's never going to work. So whoever they get there next, like, I think they have to understand who Caleb is, what Caleb is. And let's kind of make the most out of Caleb Williams.
AQ Shipley
The NFL, I think, I think he can still do all those things. We've seen flashes of him doing it now. You can't do it every game. You can't do it every quarter. And we see it with like, like Lamar Jackson is a very obviously different quarterback than Caleb. But even with Lamar, like you have to at some point in the NFL, you got to play on time. You got to be able to play and win from the pocket. And that's where we've seen Lamar make his biggest steps in games. Like, you got Kyler Murray. He's playing his best ball this year. He's playing much more on time, reading things from the pocket, making throws. And then when Kyler has to be special, Kyler could be special. Josh Allen, same thing. So, like, at some point, when you let those special traits take over, that's why these guys are these guys and can elevate different players. Like Justin Herbert's another guy who went through three different coordinators in his three first years. But he was special. He was off the charts. But now we're seeing. Harbaugh talked about it yesterday. You don't have to play hero ball. Like, let the other guys do their job. When it's your time to be special, be special.
Darius Butler
And then I think that's a big reason why Bears fans are so frustrated, too, because obviously circumstances are different. But, like, that's exactly what Jaden Daniels is doing in Washington. Like, we know how special he is with his legs, but, like, he's winning from the pocket and then if he has to get out and run, he will. But he's not. He's not looking to extend the play on every single play and have an explosive play on every single play. Like, it looks like Caleb is. And look how good Washington's.
Pat McAfee
How about Jim Harbaugh? Herbert's a hero.
AJ Hawk
So guardian.
Pat McAfee
He's guardian of victory. Inhuman everything. Half man, half beast, carrying bricks. Keystones he was actually carrying, which he was awesome.
AJ Hawk
Talking about the man.
Pat McAfee
But watching Jaden, watching CJ Last year, it's like there is an expectation of you to be able to figure it out quicker. Caleb obviously is going through another transition into another offense coordinator who spent four years with Shane Waldron, I guess, in Seattle, has come over with him. So I don't know how much will be different. Maybe different play calls, different timing and everything like that. But there's some numbers coming out about the McCaskey, era, the George McCaskey era. 12 years, three general managers, four head coaches, 10 offense coordinators, zero playoff wins. All right, good luck, Chicago. Speaking of playoff wins, joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a college football expert from espn. The College Football Football Playoff committee will be releasing its second official rankings tonight live in between two basketball games on ESPN. Host by Reese Davis, Borger McFarland, Joey Galloway, Greg McElroy. And ladies and gentlemen, one of the stars of the show who has all the inside information. Who, who, who, who's yours? Heather Dimich. How are you? Yeah, there it is. I'm good.
Heather Dinich
How you doing?
Pat McAfee
I'm great. Thank you so much for joining us. I use going banana. They're going to be ranked Very high. We assume this evening they were eighth last week. I think AP had them at five on Sunday. Tonight we'll earn the College Football Playoff committee. I can't wait to see what our Hoosiers look like. But what should we be expecting tonight? Is there any big drama coming this evening after Alabama gets that massive win or any other happenings from this past weekend? Heather?
Heather Dinich
Well, I think the big question is how far Miami falls after losing to Georgia Tech. The AP poll sunk them pretty far. I have Miami though at 11, which keeps them as the fourth highest ranked conference champion and still that first round by. But now I've got Texas at number three. I think that's the big change up top because obviously of the Georgia loss. But Pat, now you've got this bunch of SEC teams with two losses for the committee to sort out and I think tonight Alabama will still be their top two loss team.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so obviously each week the storylines are, are they judging how the team plays and they said football judgment is a big part. Ward Manuel said that last week to Reese Davis. Strength of schedule, Obviously the Indiana 103rd strength of schedule was being broadcasted out there. How you lose, who you lose to, that's all. A massive piece of it is the conference dominance of SEC Big Ten obviously was apparently real last week. Is that only going to grow stronger, you think as the weeks grow on?
Heather Dinich
I think it is. Even as you continue to see these teams with two losses and as much as people keep throwing out the word elimination games every week, I would really hesitate to eliminate a three loss SEC team. And that includes if Georgia loses to Tennessee. Yes, I just said that and here's why. Because in the first 10 years of the College Football Playoff there have been 13, 13, 3 loss teams ranked in the selection committee's top 10 on selection day. So this has happened before and if history repeats itself, then you could potentially see a three loss SEC team in. But they're not all created equal. Let me make that clear.
Pat McAfee
Amen.
Heather Dinich
All three loss SEC teams are not created equal. If Ole Miss loses a third game, they're done. Lsu, they're going to be way down at the bottom of the barrel right now. Georgia though has one of the toughest, toughest schedules in the country. That's why I treat them a little differently and I think the committee could too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think that's very apparent. Obviously their losses are all top five matchups whenever you get in there. Not like you know, Alabama losing to Vandy. Everybody thought it was over. They're the only team with four wins over top 25 teams, the strength of schedule is certainly an interesting one. Let's continue on that note. AP Tone has a question for you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Heather, Talking about three loss SEC teams. The way that I'm looking at it now, it looks like like there's going to be four Big Ten teams, four SEC teams, ACC, Big 12, Notre Dame and then the Group of Five highest ranked team is, is the fifth team from the SEC potentially coming if Notre Dame loses? Is that the only way you think that maybe five SEC teams get there and especially a three loss one?
Heather Dinich
Yes, because I think if Notre Dame loses, that opens the door. But think about this too. What if you have BYU as the runner up in the Big 12? If you have Colorado as a two loss Big 12 champion and BYU's only loss is a close game to Colorado, then do you have two Big 12 teams? And to me that's going to be a good debate for the selection committee. A three loss SEC team or a one loss BYU Big 12 runner up.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so I cannot wait for the drama there. And I think I heard coach Saban say that, you know, when there was only the four team playoff, there was only like three teams that potentially were pissed. Super pissed. Florida State last year obviously took the cake of being the most mad. For good reason. We understand why they would be mad. Georgia also could have been very, very mad last year. They're the back to back national champs. Can't even get in there defend. So. And they have one loss in 29 games. Yeah. And they can't even get in. But you know, Florida State's more mad than we are. We get it. We'll be quiet now. It spans conferences over the final couple spots is all over the place. So you got like 20, maybe 10 teams that are mad as opposed to just two or three teams that are mad. There's a chance that there's even more drama at the end even though we've expanded the entirety of it. And I think it's good for ball, it's good for college ball. Keeping the amount of hope so fun. But with the hope comes the disappointment which then becomes very, very loud.
AQ Shipley
How many million people will watch? If we could just have cameras in, watch in the, in the room where they actually put like cameras, commercial spots. I mean that, I mean 15 million.
Pat McAfee
How many people are in the college football committee? And it's a rotating cast, right? Every three years, stint.
Heather Dinich
That's right. There are 13 people in there. It's a mix of former coaches, sitting athletic directors. There's one former sports writer Kelly Whiteside is in there. So it's a variety of people, but.
Pat McAfee
Everybody always assumes that they're going to act how the previous group acted. But it's a different group. Right. They run tenure, I think three years. And is it a rotating cast or is it three years, same group and then they move on?
Heather Dinich
No, it's three year tenure. So for example, this year there are six new committee members. And you make a great point, because in the past there have been committee members who have valued head to head more than something else. Right. Or strength of schedule. And that's what people need to understand is how you feel as a committee member could be completely different from the person sitting next to you. I mean, I remember in 2021, what, when they ranked Michigan State ahead of Michigan because in spite of the head to head and everybody was going bananas. Well, you can see tonight Ole Miss could be behind Georgia a week after, not even a week after beating them because Georgia beat Texas and Clemson and they have a better schedule. So how much does head to head matter? Well, it depends on who you ask in that room.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And that room changes. So you really. And in the first 12 team playoff. This is not setting precedent for what the future looks like. Go ahead, con man.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Heather. With the sec, not so much the Big Ten because of the way it's shaping up, it feels like there's a chance one of the teams that makes the SEC championship ends up being a three loss team if they were to lose to a Texas or one of the other teams at the top. Are we looking at the SEC championship and the Big Ten championship as if you make it to that game, you're automatically going to get a bid? Or do you think that's kind of where the three lost team conversation starts?
Heather Dinich
Well, to be clear, just to remind everyone watching, the five highest ranked conference champions are in. So the Big Ten and SEC champion is in. The question is how the committee evaluates the runner up. Right. And if it's a three loss team, they're going to be compared against all of the other teams in that pack. So is it a close game? You guys remember Ohio State, Wisconsin in like 2014? What was it like? 59 to 0. Yeah, that's, that's a far different championship game than let's say Ohio State and Oregon playing each other again. And it's another close game. You, you better believe the runner up in there is going to be in. Right. So how do those games unfold? Helps answer that question. But remember this, whoever loses that game, then if they do get an at large bid, they have to recover emotionally from losing that game and win four straight games to win the national title. I don't care who you are, good luck.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Anybody that makes it. And now granted, the first round by could be good. Could be bad though, because it could be a month before they're playing football in that first round by for some of the champions with how it could set up for three weeks or something like that, that's a long time. Not saying, is it rest or is it rust? If you're a top team, obviously you would hope it's rest, not rust. That home, that home field playoff game is something I think we're all jacked up about. Which leads to Ty asking you a question.
Darius Butler
Yeah, Heather, we were kind of talking about this earlier this week and a little bit last week and obviously we'll see what the Rams rankings say tonight. But in the case of like Indiana or some of these other schools, is there a chance that if they were to get a home game that that would be moved to potentially like a neutral site so they can a get more people in there and not have to worry about, you know, like the catastrophe of a hotel situation or is it pretty much locked in that every home team game will be on campus at those schools?
Heather Dinich
Well, the schools have the right to move it if they want to, but as long as it is feasible and as long as they can prepare for it, then I would assume that 99.999% of the time they would have that game on campus and move hell or high water to make it happen. Because that is the ultimate home field advantage when it matters most. So I would be surprised unless there was something thing like for example, stadium construction or in just a simple inability to host it logistically, I would be shocked if anyone passed that opportunity.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, the reason we, the reason we even brought it up is because it was announced like last week it might have been you. I don't remember who it might have been you. That said every school that is in position with this ranking to have a home field playoff game has said that they will host it at their stadium and not at a neutral site. And we're like, we didn't even know that was. We didn't even know that was even a thought or a theory. What a showcase of your campus. Yeah. What a showcase of your school. Showcase of everything. And a showcase of college football to the world that maybe hasn't experienced it yet. I think it'll be big now. There's one name that's huge. That doesn't have a chance to be one of the four champs, obviously, by their own decision. D, Bud has a question for you. Yeah.
AQ Shipley
What's the path for Notre Dame, you know, to get to the playoff? Obviously, you know, all the things Pat said, not having a conference championship in their schedule and the matchups they have.
Heather Dinich
So Notre Dame's only path to the playoff as an independent. And this goes for Washington State too, guys. And anybody else who's an independent is through one of those seven at large bids. So they have to run the table. I would expect them to be in and just sitting there watching like they do every other year while the other conferences play their conference championship game. And you know, when, when this was put together, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick knew that they wouldn't be able to get one of those first round buys. Former athletic director Jack Swarbrick, I should say. And that was okay because they knew that they would be able to get a first round home game and they would get that rest while everyone else was playing their conference championship games. So there is a little bit of a give and take there in terms of the Irish.
Pat McAfee
All right, so 8,25ish tonight, I think, is what they were marketed in between two basketball games. The new college football playoff committee bracket will be unveiled. Same with the first ones in, first ones out, yada, yada, yada. Huge night for college ball as we continue to look ahead to the 12 team playoff. Thank you for joining us.
Heather Dinich
Yeah, guys, thanks for having me on.
Pat McAfee
Hey, your hometown is home of Yingling, huh?
Heather Dinich
That's right, man. America's oldest brewery. I'll get you some, okay.
Pat McAfee
Hey.
AQ Shipley
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
I'm from Pennsylvania. I understand the Yingling game. I understand Loger. We appreciate you. Ladies and gentlemen, Heather Denick.
AJ Hawk
Heather.
Pat McAfee
Okay. That's a big night tonight.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
This is gonna be so sick.
Pat McAfee
The talk team playoff.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, it's gonna be so much fun.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it is. It's gonna be bananas. But you asked about, like, Indiana. Indiana, obviously. Huge advantage having it on campus and everything like that. 55,000 people. Okay. The speakers don't really work right. There's no. No, there's no real. But I guess it is like we're here.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You don't want to have it like we're here, but you could see how there's maybe a conversation happening, though, about if we're able to.
Ty Schmidt
But also, you know, if. If Sig thinks that, say it's in Indiana and it's 33 degrees out, you know, a little. Little light snow. Would he rather be playing there or in a 75 degrees Lucas Oil Stadium against a team that, you know, he might want to muck it up.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, maybe he wants to, but his team. Team.
Ty Schmidt
No.
Pat McAfee
You know, so.
Darius Butler
Well, that's why I think, like, if you play at Lucas Oil, like, in certain situations, like, yeah, it'd probably be split, but like, if Indiana makes it in, everyone in this state is going to want to go to that game. Like, like they're rabid for, you know, a win. Like, so if you can add 15,000 more fans that are going to come because they will be Indiana fans, like, why wouldn't you consider it?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And I think it's still your home game, so it's your stadium. It's still your stadium, still everything like that. So. So I. I would. I would like the Bloomington people to enjoy the hell out of a playoff game for sure. But not that far away. There's a bigger stadium that is ready.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
AQ Shipley
Is it even available?
Pat McAfee
Oh, true.
AQ Shipley
That's a great volleyball tournament. We have anything going on?
Pat McAfee
Didn't even think about that. Could you. You want to have the AFC championship? Can't, sorry. Got a volleyball tournament.
AJ Hawk
Huge volleyball tournament.
Pat McAfee
You want to have a college football playoff game? No, no, sorry.
Darius Butler
Shriners convention.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
You get it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. They got to come and do their shrine.
AJ Hawk
Grave diggers going to be here, so.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
I hope all the home games.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Well, those SEC teams aren't going to be correct. Yeah. Except for sec. I would like an SEC home game in college football playoffs.
AJ Hawk
No doubt.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, definitely. Well, that's what I'm saying. I would. It's all in how the. Literally how the seeding comes.
AJ Hawk
Bama or Georgia.
Pat McAfee
And how are they going to bring that up? How are they going to bring that up? When they're talking, you know, if we make them just 6 instead of 8th, like now all of a sudden we gotta.
Darius Butler
There's gonna be some games and.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Darius Butler
I didn't even considered it. But like, people are gonna be so pissed because there is a chance that Georgia is ahead of Ole Miss. And it's like. Well, sorry.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, look at it.
Pat McAfee
Sorry about it.
Ty Schmidt
Look at it right there. I mean, the SEC and Big Ten have all the home games right there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, that's. Cause they're littered in the top 12. But yeah.
Pat McAfee
So you want to be ranked five, five, eight, six, seven. That is the home. If you're AD. If you're an athletic director. Yeah. One through four. Certainly. Let's be a champion. Sure, certainly, certainly, certainly, certainly. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, we want to do that. If we land five through eight, though, we got another 110,000 ticket sales.
Darius Butler
That.
Pat McAfee
That's what we're.
AJ Hawk
At least.
Pat McAfee
That's what we're. Cause Penn State was up there last week and it's like Penn State potentially has then the. The night out. Because obviously ESPN will be broadcasting it. So that'll be a prime time game, actual prime time at night and be happening in it all. It's like that's a mat. That's a. That's a pivotal point for your entire program, your entire university. Yeah. You're getting a lot of eyes that don't watch college ball, that are going to see your shit in your show. It's like, I can't wait for that.
Ty Schmidt
With all due respect to the bowl games that are going to be represented in the quarterfinals, I wouldn't hate to see those quarterfinals be home games, too.
Pat McAfee
Amen.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Kidding me.
Pat McAfee
Amen.
AJ Hawk
Some of the rematches.
Pat McAfee
Hey, you know what? Every one of these games, let's make it a home field.
Ty Schmidt
Ohio State having to go to BYU in the second round, that'd be just awesome.
Darius Butler
That would be sweet.
Ty Schmidt
Well, and it gives. And it gives those. The teams like BYU and like, they have a better chance than a neutral field. Iowa State is going to take over national champion.
Pat McAfee
We get like the super bowl neutral. I'm cool.
AJ Hawk
Semis, too.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
No, I won home field advantage. Semifinals, too. They were with them the whole time. That's right. You know, or Oregon. They get a one. They get a buy. Okay. They don't even get a home game. They don't have anybody. Have to fly, you know, like, they should definitely have it. They make the semis. Yeah. Number one team in the country. Sorry about it. Have a better season, maybe. You're Oregon. You got to fly all the way out to Oregon. You got to deal with it out there. I don't mind that. Now, granted, the amount of corporate money that is coming in from all those places is bananas. But it's like the home field playoff game is one of the big sells of the 12 team. More teams, more opportunities, more exposure for what college football has that no other sport in the United States has. Okay. And soccer has it overseas in Europe and everything like that. How big are those stadiums, Gumpy, how big are those stadiums?
Ty Schmidt
They can get up to like 80,000 the big ones.
Pat McAfee
What's standard, though?
Ty Schmidt
Probably like 30, 40.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so that's an arena in some Places. Yeah. We have soccer fans in your hooligans. Eighty hundred thousand of them. @ the same time, it's like what college football has from a fan perspective, nobody can touch in the world. And I understand soccer fans are all in and I respect it. And they're fighting for, like, their towns. That's why they're so all in. That's what these college teams are like. Yeah. My father, my father's father, my father's father's father's father's father's father actually laid the first brick on this campus that is going to be on display in a big way. And I'm pumped. I am jacked up. So you're right. I agree with everything you just said. Hadn't thought about it until now. Really give them all the way to the, to the national championship. Just like the NFL does.
Ty Schmidt
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Just like the NFL does. And if you want home field advantage, be better during the season.
Darius Butler
That's right.
Pat McAfee
That should be. That should be one of the biggest conversation pieces.
AJ Hawk
And just like the clash of the different types of Colts, like a Notre Dame versus Penn State. I don't know how often that typically happens. I don't think I can remember a time when it happened in my life. But that'll. That would be so cool to watch that. And then like a Tennessee versus Indian Indiana. Just like the type of person that is a Tennessee fan versus the type of person that's an Indiana fan. Like, that is so cool to experience. So that would.
Pat McAfee
I mean, I was out there. I was out there at Cal Berkeley when Miami was out there. Bingo. And it was awesome. Miami watching both learn of each other's existence in real time and then inevitably shake their hands.
Aaron Rodgers
Let's go.
Pat McAfee
Shake their hands. Couple clean gaps by a few Berkeley folks. Sure. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Like Miami, Texas. That, that's. I mean, granted, Miami lost, but that would be a matchup. That would be nuts.
Pat McAfee
Shout out college ball. I gotta correct something. I said. Oh, Joseph is now the oc. He is not the oc. It's. He's still quarterback coach. Thomas Brown is OC Quarterback coach remains the same. Tom Brown becomes OC Tom Brown with Bryce Young last year in Carolina, old buddy with Waldron in Seattle, quarterback coach for the last four years. Let's talk about that game last night. Dolphins and Rams didn't get a chance to dive in as much because of the Shane Waldron Bears convo. Right into College Football Playoff being like, let's go.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
That's a big night tonight.
AJ Hawk
Huge.
Pat McAfee
That is a huge. What are the two basketball games that are sandwiching this particular Michigan State. Kansas is the first one. Okay. Kentucky. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, it's good games.
AQ Shipley
Okay.
Pat McAfee
If Yukon was on first, I would say this may sense. I think college football playoffs should take precedent over both of these. But I appreciate all of them playing. I appreciate all them playing. Cannot wait. Compare. We gambling on both of those games or. Yeah, we. We really. We got the dogs barking in both of those, which we know who that is, obviously. Michigan State. Michigan State's getting six and a half at home. Kentucky's getting six and a half at Duke. Okay. So we like both the dogs. Cooper flags. You're betting against Cooper flag?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
AQ Shipley
Second best freshman in the country.
Pat McAfee
Easy behind Mick.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Mick.
AJ Hawk
White guy from the con.
Pat McAfee
No, Liam. Liam McWhite guy from UConn is a dog.
AQ Shipley
Cooper flag always are.
AJ Hawk
14 and 10 at halftime the other day. Okay, let's just remember who the big prize is in the draft this year. It's not McWhite guy from UConn. It's Cooper Flag.
Ty Schmidt
Let's hope Cooper flag doesn't get cramps like last game.
Pat McAfee
He was going too hard.
AJ Hawk
He's 17 years old.
AQ Shipley
You think Liam's cramping?
Ty Schmidt
17 years old, cramping this year.
AQ Shipley
One of Hurley's boys is cramping.
Pat McAfee
You're talking about getting white guy up there. Yukon early gets the boys ready.
AJ Hawk
I'm not saying. You know the Duke head coach, who I definitely know. John Shire is as good as Hurley. I wouldn't. I wouldn't say that. Okay. But I will say Cooper Fox, the best damn freshman Destiny. Best damn player in the entire.
Pat McAfee
You're talking about the main event?
AJ Hawk
Yeah, the main event with me on the best. White guy's got a future, though. That kicks. Saw some highlights of him.
AQ Shipley
He's a good boy.
Pat McAfee
He's a good player.
AJ Hawk
He ain't Cooper flag, though. Okay?
Pat McAfee
He's playing for Dan Hurley. He might be able to figure it out.
AJ Hawk
No doubt about it. I have the utmost respect.
Pat McAfee
Who's cutting? That's at the end. McWhite guy or the main event?
AJ Hawk
I mean, if we know anything about Duke basketball.
Pat McAfee
What?
AJ Hawk
They have the three of the top six picks a few years ago. Yeah, I'm a bet on Hurley and McWhite Guy, but Flag's still the number one pick.
Pat McAfee
All right. McWhite Guy's logo might be him cutting down nets. Yeah, the main event's got all he can do anything. He's got a lot of brands, but McWhite guy and that squad up there might really pull it off. Let's definitely call him that for the rest of the game. No doubt about it.
AJ Hawk
No doubt about it.
Pat McAfee
We are the worst show of all time. No questions asked. ESPN's playing these two college basketball games. I assume they're a big deal. I'm like, all right, let's go ahead. We don't care. Can we. Can we please. Can we please get the College Football Playoff? And I would like to see Reese. I'd like to see Boog. I like to see Joey Galloway, and I like to see Greg McElroy, Roy go @ it. Yeah. About things that ultimately, they definitely matter. Without doubt, they definitely matter. But this particular ranking means little to nothing, depending upon what happens in the amount of passion those four show on that desk. I'm telling you, must watch. It's one of my favorite shows on TV. They get pissed. Greg McElroy gets actually pissed whenever this thing pops up on the screen. And then Joey obviously will get involved. Borg will get involved. And then Reese is like. Like, let's remember.
AJ Hawk
Calm down, Calm down.
Pat McAfee
It's real juice up there. It's a good show, but obviously we got to wait for Michigan State to beat Kansas.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, of course. I mean, look, college basketball and basketball. Yeah, yeah. It's just like the NBA. Like, hey, when February comes around, NBA starts when March comes around. Oh, it's college basketball season.
Pat McAfee
Breaking news.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
From the Hollywood handle. Tom Cruise reportedly wants Glenn Powell to replace him as the lead Mission Impossible.
Aaron Rodgers
Holy.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's from the Hollywood handle. That's big.
Darius Butler
That's a done deal, folks.
Pat McAfee
Wow. This is like a veteran QB playing while the young rookie gets to sit.
Darius Butler
And watch and learn how to handle the ropes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, this is Patch Mahomes. Alex Smith.
Darius Butler
It is.
Pat McAfee
This is Aaron Rodgers.
Ty Schmidt
Huh?
Pat McAfee
The Hollywood handle.
AJ Hawk
What you just said.
AQ Shipley
I just want to make sure this is real before.
Pat McAfee
All right, all right, tc, it's real. This is real.
Darius Butler
TC ain't letting this out if this isn't real.
Ty Schmidt
And TC could recognize a leading man.
Darius Butler
When he says exactly.
Ty Schmidt
And there is no man morally.
AQ Shipley
You kind of called it.
Pat McAfee
All right. Yeah.
Darius Butler
I mean, listen. All right, if TC's talking about it, I know what's going. Are you calling who I think you're calling?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Okay. Yeah, let's see. Let's see if he answers. Come on. He might be somewhere in the world.
Darius Butler
I mean, it makes too much sense.
Pat McAfee
He's probably filming.
Darius Butler
Do one more Mission Impossible.
AJ Hawk
Boom.
Darius Butler
Guess who's the young hot shot. Glenn Powell. And who's gonna hand the baton right off?
AJ Hawk
He better be in the movie.
Pat McAfee
Hey, hey, hey. We're live. We're live. We're live. We're live. We're live right now.
AJ Hawk
Oh, is that. Is that. Yeah. Okay.
Darius Butler
Don't, don't, don't let that out.
Pat McAfee
I, I literally wear my costume in the movie, man. I can't. All right. I won't show you. I won't show you. Sweet costume. They just broke some massive news about you and your future, and we just wanted to say congratulations to you. Oh, what?
Aaron Rodgers
What is it?
Pat McAfee
Tell them. Tell, tell. Do we trust what @hollywood handle says in the Hollywood world? It's from the INS Snider. Do you. Do we know who the INS Snider is? I N S N E I D E R. I, I know who that guy is. Yeah. Okay. Credible INS Snider. Normally, right?
Darren Rizzi
I, I, I, I couldn't tell you.
Ty Schmidt
Okay.
AJ Hawk
Well, well, Is this right?
Pat McAfee
Tom Cruise reportedly wants Glenn Powell to replace him as the lead for Mission Impossible franchise on future installments. Is what Dean Snyder is reporting. We just want to call and say congratulations, brother.
Conner
My mom would never let me do that.
Pat McAfee
No, everybody knows that. That's a death. That's a death.
Ty Schmidt
That's a death trap.
Pat McAfee
Really?
Darius Butler
No, that's a misdirection. Right?
Pat McAfee
We love you. Congratulations on everything. Love you, Glenn. Love you, Glenn. Season. It has been a hell of a season. Texas. We're rolling. We got College Football Playoff committee coming out tonight with new rankings. I can't wait. Dude, hit me up. I think it's.
Darius Butler
I'm feeling good.
Pat McAfee
All right. You look good, too. What movie are we doing right now? Running Man.
AJ Hawk
Yes.
Pat McAfee
You're the man. All right. We appreciate you, dude. It's going to be. Yeah. All right. All right. Good. All right. All right. Good luck to you. See you. So what does that mean?
AJ Hawk
It means.
Darius Butler
It means he's. He's Ethan Hunt.
Pat McAfee
That's what you think? Yeah.
Darius Butler
We found our next game guy.
Pat McAfee
He looks really cool right there. I bet he did.
Darius Butler
That's a remake of an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. It's going to be awesome.
Pat McAfee
He looked so cool right there. Yeah. Also glistening. They got him nice.
Darius Butler
I'm sure he's absolutely.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I just saw an incredibly handsome person. And then who's he in that movie with? Which one? That Running man movie.
Darius Butler
The Running Man.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. He's older, gentleman with longer hair. We've seen him.
Darius Butler
I don't know. He's the main character, though.
AJ Hawk
Build the Poe.
Pat McAfee
Josh Brolin. Brolin. Put the guy's picture up. I'll be able to tell you if it's him.
AJ Hawk
Out of range guy.
Pat McAfee
Out of range.
Ty Schmidt
Bill H. Macy.
Pat McAfee
With the.
AJ Hawk
With the big hole in. In the farm.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Yeah. Who was the guy?
AJ Hawk
Josh Brolin.
Ty Schmidt
I'm looking at the cast. It's Brolin. Bill H. Macy.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
There he is, top right.
Pat McAfee
No, William Macy.
Darius Butler
Oh, Bill H. Macy.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I just saw him. Hey. Hey, Bill. Nice to see you on the FaceTime, Bob. Hell, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
He looks super FaceTime.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Turned around and saw. Hey, it was good to see you. Nice to meet you, sir. Nice to meet you. Michael. Sarah. I guess this movie is going to be phenomenal. Yeah. Glenn Powell said it's going to be sick. I believe is how he ended it. He looks so cool right there.
Ty Schmidt
What's great about Glenn Powell is a nice guy.
Pat McAfee
Jacked up for Texas. Yeah. Do you remember when we were all wearing flight suits, standing.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He was just.
Ty Schmidt
And he had the black tank top on.
Pat McAfee
He was awesome.
Darius Butler
And he could really talk about it or make men joke.
Pat McAfee
Hey, this movie's awesome, right? Yeah. Love all forms entertainment.
AJ Hawk
Come on, Texas.
Pat McAfee
All forms entertainment.
Darius Butler
Kept calling him hangman.
Pat McAfee
Hangman. Tell me what Texas needs to do to get this thing turned around against Oklahoma. They lose that game. Oh, yeah.
AJ Hawk
Dylan Gabriel.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. One bananas. Now he leads the number one Oregon team. Wow. In a college football season that the entire world has its eyes on. Including. Including from the set of Running Men.
Darius Butler
Yes.
Pat McAfee
The most handsome to ever live. Glenn Powell.
AQ Shipley
If he is Ethan Hunt. He's got to do his own stunts.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he will. Yeah, brother.
AJ Hawk
There is another guy in the works, though.
Pat McAfee
Oh.
AJ Hawk
Roam around the street Is the Rizzler. Might be okay.

Hunt in a magical evening where Tuatang Valoa had a touchdown, had some scrambles, had a great return and had a tackle. He actually tackled somebody with his head, which is obviously something we all had our eyes on. And we're all praying every single time he dropped back for nothing bad to happen. Dewey said, I don't care about any of it. I'm playing ball just like I said when I was coming back. I love the game. I love the game till death. Boom. Throws a pick, puts his leg or his head down into a guy's knee pretty much now he gets shin to the ear hole, bounces back up. I think Tua probably learned a lot about himself in that moment. I think we all learned a lot about Tua in that moment and we'd like to say, Tua, you throw a pick, get the fuck away from the play, please. Great tackle. You got it. Hey, you got him, Tua. You got him.
AJ Hawk
Good stick.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I mean that's a real shot to the head.
Ty Schmidt
Very lucky he got his head cross. That's what you're.
Pat McAfee
I mean, great form. Tackle at his head down. We need heads up football obviously, if we're looking for that. But I mean, that's a kick right to the head. If that thing's just a little bit hot, not even going to get into it. Tua, we're happy. All right. Congrats to the Dolphins. Darius J. Butler predicted the Dolphins were going to win last night, as did Gumpy. You guys had real faith in that team, huh?
AQ Shipley
We had. I mean, obviously the state of Florida was on the line. Oh yeah, yeah. Tua wasn't going to let us down. The boys wasn't going to let us down. Defense, obviously. Tua. Tua came out Hot AQ, you talked about the first 15. Like that first drive, the Dolphins just marched right down the field, got into the end zone, then the defensive side of the ball, Anthony Weaver on third down. I don't think they converted third down to like late in the third quarter. The Rams 3 for 12 overall in the game. Obviously, we know that's the money down. Had to settle for a bunch of short field goals instead of getting into the end zone. Matt Stafford had his weapons back with Puka Cooper. They were productive. You know, the other Robinson didn't have many catches, many plays, but Stafford was definitely fooled a few times bringing pressure. So, yeah, I love what my Dolphins did, man. Big, big win. And now we stay in the thick of it in the AFC.
Pat McAfee
And that guy who's 6 foot 9 in his 17th year.
AQ Shipley
Oh my God.
Pat McAfee
At the age of 38, out of the U. Yeah. Calais Campbell, causing full chaos. They're calling him Kaleos Campbell. This dude had a couple sacks, had a pass, break, breakup force an interception. I mean, this dude was on fire. I. I've had a chance to obviously meet Kaleos Campbell in person before. He's a sweet boy. Yeah, really, we're talking about great dude. Well, it's made man of the year in the past. Probably would win it every single year if they didn't want to just keep giving it to the same person. Has a good time. Relatable. So tall.
AJ Hawk
Huge.
Pat McAfee
So, so tall. Huge. I've only seen him at a few events and he's one of those guys at the events. And I assume there's a lot of NBA guys who feel this way, but I don't know if all NBA guys are 293. I'm sorry, 330, or whatever the hell he is because of how tall he is. His bones got to weigh at least £300, you'd assume. But he's big. He's absolutely big. So you're at an event and you just like, you see him like everybody sees him. You're hard knocked. And the way he handles all. He's like everybody, you know, I assume the same way, like Shaq moves whenever he's in public. Calais moves the exact same way. Way. Never met anybody that has met Kas who hasn't loved him like that great dude, that type of dude too. So to see him having the success that he's having and every team, you know, he just. He's kind of just moved on from. And every time, it's always like, well, he was doing well. Why would you. He's doing well. Why would you. He's doing well. Why would you. That's kind of the end of this career he's had. But you're talking 17 years in this entire thing. I mean that's.
Ty Schmidt
He's been so good all year.
Pat McAfee
They started him like kind of like a snap count of the start of year.
Ty Schmidt
Every game he's playing more and more.
Pat McAfee
And he just keeps getting better and better. It's incredible. 38 years old, obviously has a massive night last night. 253 games, 108 and a half sacks, 40 thirds of the NFL history, 822 total tackles, three interceptions. Glue Guy in locker room too. I think like always obviously watch bait. Man of the year. Incredible guy. Six time Pro Bowler and a part of the all decade team. And I believe Joe no Troy last night who is one of the voices of the hall of Fame. You remember the whole Jimmy Johnson, Jerry Jones situation at the hall of Fame because of Troy Aikman. He was like this guy's first balloter. You know, whenever he five years after he hanging up, it's like he for the length of time in which he has played the football that he's played at the position that he's played, it's like that warrants conversation immediately for everybody.
AQ Shipley
Craze. Chaos. Huge. You mentioned a huge man. Even if he's not getting to the quarterback kind of how J.J. watt was in his prime, he's still putting them hands up, putting them paws up. We always love tips and overthrows as db so chaos. Always creating chaos for quarterbacks. Always in the line of vision and just consistent, you know, consistent. Have stayed healthy, played a ton of games, amassed those type of stats who's, you know, not a typical edge rusher like a TJ Watt or Miles Garrett or one of these guys. Almost 110 sacks. I think he. I agree with Troy for sure he'll be first ballot hall of Fame.
Pat McAfee
Joining us now live from an attic in Ohio is a man who I assume has immense respect for Kales being tossed on a football FIELD when that 17 year vet is on it. Ladies and gentlemen, college football national champion, super bowl champion, all time leading tackler for the Green Bay Packers, A.J. hall. A.J. great haircut.
AJ Hawk
Wow.
Pat McAfee
Great haircut. Holy.
AJ Hawk
Yep, it's like a toupee.
Pat McAfee
It looks good. Looks tight in a good way.
Ty Schmidt
Good leading man.
Pat McAfee
It didn't sound like that was good, Conor. But I want to let you know I. I main it completely. I just FaceTime with Glenn Pal, your face pops up there. I'm like, holy hell. Just super handsome. All I tell you what, that's some.
Gumpy
Of the best marketing you could ever do for that movie. Running Man. You kidding me? Glenn answering the phone. You said Bill Macy was in the background.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he turned his. I said, we're live, we're live. Glenn's like, what's up, dude? Like, I don't think he heard me saying, we're live. And then he flips over. Williams is just sitting there just like this. Does one of these. Yep. Turns it back and I go, we're live, we're live. We're live. And then goes, don't. I'm in my. You don't. Cost you. Then we learned a lot in my uniform.
Gumpy
Yeah, I'm in my uniform. Can't show me.
Pat McAfee
He was in his costume. Whatever.
Gumpy
Was he in, like, his trailer or is it, like, the makeup? Where was it?
Pat McAfee
It felt like it was a trailer situation. I guess that's that business, huh? Oh, yeah. You gotta be able to have him. Phenomenal patience. Because you're just kind of waiting a lot. A lot, I think. I don't know. I've never been there, but feels like a lot of it is waiting.
Gumpy
There's a lot of smoke, cigs. That's why a lot of the old school guys smoke cigs. I feel like you're. You're sitting around for seven and a half hours and you're working for 40 minutes.
Pat McAfee
Takes time, I guess. Smoking cigs takes time.
Darius Butler
Crushing beers with Bill H. Macy in.
Pat McAfee
The middle of takes. I don't know. Why not?
Darius Butler
He's a thespian. He can do it.
Pat McAfee
He looks so cool. You should have seen how cool he looks.
AJ Hawk
I believe it.
Pat McAfee
He's gonna look awesome in that movie. Clean shaved.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah. You don't want to hide that. It's movie star time.
Pat McAfee
Glenn Powell.
AJ Hawk
Well, hopefully. Huh?
Pat McAfee
What?
Darius Butler
He's one of the good guys.
AJ Hawk
A movie start time.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Everybody needs.
Ty Schmidt
We've shaken his hand.
Pat McAfee
No, no, I'm not saying him.
AJ Hawk
I'm just saying it's Glenn Powell time. I don't deny that. Movie start time.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. So there's a. We've all read too many tweets. Amen. Okay? That's what's. We've all heard too many things. We've all seen too much stuff at this point not to have radar up about everything seemingly. But you meet Glenn Powell, you think to yourself, this is all that's right in the world.
Aaron Rodgers
Amen.
Pat McAfee
You should not be that attractive and that humble. No. You know that's kind of the issue.
AJ Hawk
And that jocked that.
Pat McAfee
Exactly.
Gumpy
He's not the old school, Hollywood, like, leading man. That's what he is like. He's like a throw. Throwback. I feel like.
Pat McAfee
Whoa, what's that? Once again, what. We're happy for you, Glenn. Love you, Glenn.
AJ Hawk
I'm just saying loosely throwing around throwback.
Pat McAfee
Big night last night. Obviously we'll keep our eye on all the situations.
AJ Hawk
I mean, it's gonna be hard not to.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it seems like it's everywhere. Yeah, it's gonna be a wild time these next few months. Seems like a lot of things are ending. My alley algorithm that didn't. We need to rely.
AJ Hawk
Just think about when the super bowl is.
Pat McAfee
That's right. That's big game last night. Speaking of the super bowl, the Miami Dolphins are now 3 and 6, AJ and staying afloat is the proper way to describe this. They're talking about them going on a playoff run now. Phenomenal graphic here by Debo. Okay, great. The attention to detail here is very impressive. Look at the water, but the boys are still there. Okay, and then what's swimming at their feet?
AJ Hawk
That looks like a dolphin snowflake.
Ty Schmidt
Is that a bottleneck?
Pat McAfee
It might be Snowflake, actually, because that is where the entire conversation stemmed from. We thought there was a chance Finkel might make an appearance on this particular graphic as well. But look at the sunset.
Ty Schmidt
Look at this beautiful.
AJ Hawk
Look at the sky, the font on the letters.
Pat McAfee
I mean, everything about phenomenal work by Debone here, but it tells a bigger story. We took this much time on a team that's three and six, because the conversation is they might be able to get into the playoff hunt. Wild card, seventh seed, maybe in the afc they can go and get it. Is that even. Is that a reality for this Miami Dolphins team? After you watched last night, AJ Hawk.
Gumpy
I mean, you can definitely see how it's a possibility. I mean, if their defense continues to play like their defense, what forces five field goals from the Rams? We know how explosive the Rams offense can be with Matt Stafford and the weapons he has on the outside. So, yeah, if their defense plays like this, I mean, you got to go on a. A run that, you know, we don't see teams go on too often, but why not? Why not give them a chance?
Pat McAfee
Go ahead.
Ty Schmidt
So I. I went back and I looked. Since the NFL went to the 14 team playoff in 2020, for some reason in 2020, you had to have 11 wins to get in the playoffs. On the AFC side, well, we know why 2020. Crazy.
Pat McAfee
You need a lot of things in 21.
Ty Schmidt
In 21. In 21, it was nine wins got you in. In 20, 22, nine wins got you in. And then last year, 10 wins got you in. So you got to get at least nine for sure, possibly 10 to get in the playoffs.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so that's where the seven seed has remained this year. At the beginning of the year, there was a lot of seemingly. I don't want to say turmoil, but there was a lot going around, passing the buck happening. So what will the win loss record have to be for the seven seed? It will be different this year than years past, potentially. But a Road to 10. The Bengals are trying to get there. Obviously. They were trying to get there. The Dolphins now in the conversation, the Indianapolis Colts sure are on the road to 10.
AJ Hawk
Kinda.
AQ Shipley
We got a little. We got a game.
Gumpy
That's what I heard.
AQ Shipley
Got a game up, too.
AJ Hawk
10 losses.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, everybody's talking about the Dolphins going 3 and 6. What's the Colts record? What's the Colts records? Can somebody riddle me that?
AJ Hawk
Four and six.
Pat McAfee
Oh, four wins. The Dolphins.
Ty Schmidt
The Broncos are currently the seven at five and five.
Pat McAfee
I mean, this is all setting up for one of the greatest comeback stories of all time. This team, they're saying, don't even know how to be a professional operation, not even know how to be a professional outfit. Things have happened to this team that have never happened before in the history of professional football. Maybe even high school football and college football added into that at the quarterback position. But still, the reason why the NFL is the NFL and the reason why football is the greatest, we're still in it somehow. Yeah. Isn't that bananas?
AQ Shipley
It's got to get hot.
Pat McAfee
And if we're able to win a couple games, all these conversations subside, too. Like, I'm sure they fix their culture overnight on one Tuesday. Oh, yeah, yeah. Look at them. They've been winning some games. Could happen because we have won games in the past that we weren't supposed to win. And we've been in every single game that we've lost to very good teams. And if all this shit is happening behind closed doors, okay, Bills beat the shit out of us. Vikings beat the shit. Everybody else. Everybody else. The other four. The other four.
Gumpy
I was not behind closed doors. We saw that happen. We watched that.
Pat McAfee
But if we start winning some games, everything that has been happening behind closed doors doesn't matter anymore. And we just go and win the super bowl without ever getting it fixed. And we're the first team ever that doesn't work hard, that isn't all the way bought in, that somehow wins the Super Bowl. That is what's possible at this moment. And that's conversation coming out of last night. This Dolphins team is 3 and 6. 3 and 6. And now. Hold the phone, hold on. Wait a minute. If, I mean we're actually 5 and 6. If you look at who we're playing coming up. Haven't played the games. Have not had to do. I've not had to do it at all. We're actually 5 and 6 if you think about it. And I'm doing a same thing with the Colts. There's a lot of teams that are doing that right now. We got to get the nine. We'll just act like Tone. Those are two different times. We got to get the nine, brace the nine. Let's do it. We got a lot of games left.
AJ Hawk
Can get that done.
Pat McAfee
We just wrapped up week 10. There's 18 weeks in this season because there's 17 games. Got nothing but time. Anybody can get there. What? Why not? Let's go and do it.
Darius Butler
Why not go beat the Lions in a couple weeks.
Pat McAfee
Why not? Ladies and gentlemen, this weekend we're playing against the jets and their fans are hoping to think the same thing.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
All we got to do is get the nine wins maybe and we can sneak in as a wild card. 10 wins, maybe we can sneak in as a wild card. This weekend's a big one for that hope to remain real. The quarterback of the New York jets, four time mvp, super bowl champion. Ladies and gentlemen, Aaron Rogers. Hello, Aaron.
Aaron Rodgers
I guess how you doing?
Pat McAfee
Good luck to your jets this weekend playing against Colts.
Aaron Rodgers
I might not be getting that pregame text from you.
Pat McAfee
It might look a little different. That's all I'm saying. It might look a little bit different. Like hey, today, give these boys a chance. You know, let the. Let these goats. We've been through a lot over here. Obviously this Jet season has been a lot over there as well. And that game aside, obviously would like to hear your thoughts on everything right now because I think with the way the season has gone up, down, we've had some moments up, we're back, we're here, we've arrived, then you play this weekend. That game goes how it goes and now we're back down. It's been a lot of this. But just like we were just saying about the Miami Dolphins fans, just like the Colts fans are saying, just like a lot of places are saying in your building, what is the mindset? What is the thought on how to finish this season. Season for the New York Jets.
Aaron Rodgers
Well, it hasn't changed for me. I think you gotta approach it the same every single week. You know, when there's a lot of conversation like, oh, what are you gonna do now? Like, well, you do what you know how to do. You go back to work. You know, preparation stays the same. You know, maybe it kicks up a little bit if you need to, for guys that, you know, feel like they can give a little more. But I've been doing this a long time, and the preparation stays same, focus stays the same, you know, I think you got to handle it with humility, you know. Been a lot of. A lot of. A lot of pies to be eaten around here this year. Flavored, humble. Yeah, big ones.
Pat McAfee
Big New York pies. Those big New York pies.
AQ Shipley
Good pies.
Pat McAfee
And it's not a buck a slice either. These are.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah, but you gotta. You gotta hold on to that beautiful thing in life called hope. And that's just that there's a chance, you know, we're not mathematically eliminated. There's a lot to play for. At the end of the day, you know, one thing that we can play for, whether we're 10 and 0 or 3 and 7, is pride. You know, pride in your performance, pride in the product you're putting on the field. Not wanting to let your coaches down, teammates down, the guys in the locker room, the men and women that you see every day at work. There's got to be pride in that. It's got to be pride that. That spurs you on. On Monday night, when you're tired and you just had a long flight and you sit down, you know, you watch your film, and you wake up Tuesday morning, you get after any preparation, you go into facility, you take care of your body, you do your workout or whatever it might be, and then, you know, you get after it. Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday evening, make sure you're ready to go Wednesday with questions, with ideas, and hitting your coach up, making sure that, you know, you get an early look at the plans, you can come in with some questions and do all the little things. I think a lot of times when. When. When shit's not going your way, you know, they want to make it about a. There's a big thing. You know, it's a coach's fault or player's fault or my fault or Todd's fault or Salah's fault, obviously, or Hackett's fault, whoever you want to lay blame on. But a lot of times it comes down to just doing little things. You know, it's little things that actually add up to the big things. And then, you know, on the outside world, you just see like a very easy fix. You know, get rid of this person, get rid of that person, do this, do that. But in the end, it's a lot of times it's little habits, little habits by players and preparation and coaches and the building sometimes that make a difference between three and seven and seven and three for us because there were multiple games that we could have won just on the field, but off the field sometimes where the wins and losses happen, we forget about the Monday to Saturday game that we aren't winning consistently enough. I don't think week to week, week Sunday product is what it is. We've been inconsistent. We've had good games, good halves, bad games, inconsistent games. Most of it has been not playing complimentary football on all three sides, which, you know, obviously happened in Arizona. You know, we had a chance on our first two drives to, to stay tight regardless what happened on our defense. You know, they went out, scored. We had a chance to get seven there. We had, you know, didn't execute and settled for a field goal. They went out, scored again. Now it's 14:3. We went down the field again, put together a nice drive and didn't get seven again. Now it's 14 six and they go down, scores 21 six. And then, you know, we. We went three and out and it's 24, six and a half. Then we have another chance to get back in the game. We drive down the field and get inside the 10. Can't, can't score, sack, fumble on fourth down, unfortunately, with the guy open to make it 23, 24, 13 or 14 if we go for two. And then the game's different. So it's on us, you know, to fix it, obviously, but you're not going to fix it by doing the same thing. There's little tweaks in the, in the Monday, the Saturday, I think can turn this thing. And you turn this thing. You beat a Colts team that's had some up and down, you know, games themselves. You know, some games they played really well and won, some games where they probably felt like they should have won and, you know, they're four and six. They're not out of it. They're still in. They got a lot of veteran players over there, a lot of pride, but a chance for us to get a win, get into the bye week and then look at the back half, the last six of our schedule. With you know, I said after the game we got a couple west coast teams coming out for 1 o'clock games. We have three division games and we are at Jacksonville. So crazy it is. There's still a lot of things right in front of us, but starts with finding a way to get get a win against Indy this weekend.
Pat McAfee
You know what they say and I appreciate your insight on all of that on you've played obviously 18 years years in the NFL now going to be a first ballot hall of Famer. You know they say the little things take care of the big. If you take care of the little things, the big things take care of themselves. You know that's kind of like the mindset process driven people are normally the people that end up lasting longest. The same conversation that you just chatted about there is happening here in Indianapolis which kind of leads to a different question. Do you think over your time it has been a. I don't want to say decline because that would be negative, but it's obviously a different time in like being a professional athlete and like handling like the main. Keeping the main thing. The main thing. And obviously you come on the show every single Tuesday so people will say is he keeping the main thing the main thing? It's like players have had Tuesday interviews in the NFL since the beginning of time. But I'm just saying over your also.
Aaron Rodgers
A lot of people trying to copy what we were doing. No shows.
Pat McAfee
No, no, no, no, no, no. That ain't. Hey, by the way, shout out us. Shout out us. Five years. Yeah. Crazy through a lot of wild times. But do you see a difference in like great times?
Aaron Rodgers
A lot of great times.
Pat McAfee
Wild times. Yeah. Great times. There's been great times. God, there's been great times.
Aaron Rodgers
Couple wild times. A couple wild times too.
Pat McAfee
Real wild times. Yeah. I was getting attacked in different languages. I don't know, it's possible I was being called a big fat slob in a tank top and in a different language. That was a wild. That was a wild. Anyways, have you seen a difference though in like the generations? Because you've been through a couple different now with length of your career on like being a professional in understanding the buy in on what it is to be an NFL player. Have you noticed any difference? And I'm not saying you need to call it any names, but we're in a much different time now than we were when guys literally had nothing else to do but ball, you know, like that is it now. It's a vastly different space.
Aaron Rodgers
I think that's Part of the progression of the league is that the popularity has soared. There's been a lot of changes with schedule. We were talking the other day, you know, back when I was a young player, first, second, third, fourth season especially, the rules were different the offseason. We were there, it'd be middle of March. And that gave you a lot of chances to work on little things and learn how to speak the language of football, learn how to be an expert of your offense, learn how to speak the language of defenses and learn fronts and pressures and coverages and tendencies and alignments on defense. So you can have a conversation in Rome and talk about, you know, 42 LX front and then middle, fire pressure and the different stuff behind it and bringing flame pressure and playing two slide blitz on behind and all these different little terms. You can learn to speak the language and also really hone the fundamentals. So you had, I mean, think about. You had six weeks before the draft, mostly just young players working on the crowd now, you know, none of the young players, you know, nobody comes until, I believe, middle of April the earliest. So you're already a month behind. The college game obviously influences all of it, you know, and I think there's a lot of really good stuff in it. You know, when I was playing in high school, it was 21 personnel, a lot of IBAC stuff. Even at college at Cal, they didn't take one snap in the gun. Now, a lot of these kids have taken every snap on the gun. They clap for cadence. They don't call a huddle. So there's. There's some kind of basic things that have to be learned on the fly by a number of people because linemen are looking over at the sideline, they're getting their signal or they're on a wristband. There's not a lot of communication. And in turn, what's that made? Because you don't have the same type of time in the offseason, and you have a different game in college is you've changed the way offenses play. And some of it's really good, and some of it can showcase amazing skills of guys like a Jaden Daniels, who's had a fantastic, fantastic season. And obviously what Lamar did in college, some of the same stuff he's doing now, and he's made himself into a fantastic passer from the pocket. But the game has shifted. I think there's a lot of good things in that, but there's also the social media influence, which has made all of the content very valuable because now you can Monetize all the content. So back in the day, I say this a lot. I'm the old guy saying how we used to play cards and dominance in the locker room. Now it's, you know, guys talking about meeting up afterwards, playing video games and linking up, or, you know, you're working on your social media post in the locker room. So it's changed the dynamic for sure. You know, some good. For sure, some good and some just different. Not bad or good. It's just different. It's different day and age. There's a lot of. A lot more things to take your mind off of football. And there's an insulation, I think, being in Green Bay because you don't have a big city life or, you know, these, you know, restaurants you got to go get to, or different things, or you talk about the media. I always thought the media in Green Bay was great, but not easy. But there's a lot, a lot of distractions. And in the end, it comes down to, you know, can you figure out a way to prepare that gets you ready to play? Can you go out and execute what you prepared? Because. Because every offense, regardless who's calling it, can be great or terrible. It just comes down to execution, and the coaches get blamed. But in the end, it's the players who are out there trying to execute it. And when there are mistakes, the majority of the time it comes down to preparation. And you gotta look at what you were doing during your downtime. How much communication were you having on the side? And then practice habits, too. Great teams practice, practice a certain way. And we've actually, unfortunately, had some really good weeks of practice because the product hasn't always been great, but I feel like the last three weeks have been the three best weeks of practice we've had. So nobody, I don't feel like on offense felt like we were going to go out and score six points. Now, credit to their defense. They got some really good players and, you know, there's some good things. But I often feel like it's us against us out there. You know, we're kind of playing against ourselves, and if we don't screw it up, you know, we can be a dynamic offense, but unfortunately, too many times we've been the one screwing it up.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's everywhere, brother. I don't think that's just one place. I appreciate your insight into all that, too, because I haven't been in the locker room. Obviously, as many things have changed over the last eight years, seven years, I could see how it'd be Difficult, you know, to keep the main thing. The main thing. But I think what a lot of people don't understand. I'm not talking about your situation. I'm not talking about just the Colts in situation. I'm talking about every situation in the NFL with guys who haven't been cut before or fired. It's like, you're here. Just you are a piece of gum, okay? And whenever your flavor runs out, whether it's an end of an ability or an end of a liking this or an end of professional whatever it is, whenever your flavor is no longer the one, literally, it is spit out there. This isn't. And there's no rules on where that thing can be spit out or when. It could be your birthday. Yeah, it could be. It could be. They will spit your ass out and move on to the next piece of gum, and it's over. Then you're sitting on a bar stool wondering what the hell happened. It's like, well, you had your opportunity. You didn't take advantage of it. Like, people don't think that's possible because throughout their entire life, they've never been. Everybody's wanted them on our team. We want you to want, please, God, be on our team. Please, you. If you're on our team, our team's better. Then you get the NFL. It's like everybody in this league has been that person at a different stage of their life. So I feel like there's a lot of opportunities potentially being blown by people, you know, And I don't like that. And it's. I'm not talking about your situation, but I think I am talking about, like, learning about this Indianapolis situation more and more and more and more and more. And I'm like, what do you. Do you have a chance to be fucking. Not just ar. This is like, everybody. You have a chance to be awesome. You have a chance to be great. And you're just kind of waste. Why? You're just wasting. There's no reason to do that.
Aaron Rodgers
Well, I think I can speak on that a little bit. I think there's a game within the game that I think people just missed. Yes. And if you're. You're an average player, the game playing the game within the game will allow you to have, you know, a decent little career. If you're a good player, you can have a long career. If you're a great player, you can have a Hall of Fame, transcendent career. The game within the game, to me, I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. It comes down to Four things. And the comedy is that. Not the comedy, but the irony, I guess is that three of these are basically team rules. I don't know if it's all in the Shanahan system, but it was, it was the three team rules who had Green Bay, same in the jets, with slightly different wording. And then I've added a fourth one that's just kind of the key to sticking around the league, playing the game within the game. Now, on top of the game within the game is talent, ability, production. But the game within the game is rule number one is put the team first. So that involves some humility, not making it by yourself. Rule number two is no excuses or no complaining. Rule number three is be on time, be prepared. And the fourth rule that I've thrown in there is be a good teammate. And listen, we all, you know, at times, you know, there's been times that we've either pressed those rules or not adhere those rules completely. And some of us who've been around forever probably have more opportunity to make a mistake and to stick around. But if you just do those four things, and I know it seems simple, but it's not because I've seen guys get themselves cut by not following those rules, but you just do those four things, things just Ted Thompson, like Ted Thompson used to always say, wrap yourself around the team, you know, just don't be the guy always complaining and making excuses. And then be on time, be prepared. That little one, you know, I'm like super old school and weird, I guess. I have a yellow, you know, legal pad that I like, take notes on and flip pages over. That's just how I need to do it. And people have asked me, why do I do it that way? And I say, well, I have this, this, this three time rule. I want, I want to hear it first, then I want to say it second. And then I want to write it third. So I hear the play or the install that we're doing. Then I say the play, like to myself, and then I write it down. Now I've given myself three times to remember the formation, the play, the potential can or adjustment. And then my responsibility. And then as I'm writing, I'm writing. And often it involves other people's response, but that's just how I prepare. Now that we have, you know, the guys, everybody has iPads. Back in the day, we had little computers, you know, we had computers. I have my computer out, I have my notepad out. Now, you know, it's your iPad or whatever they got. And then and then, you know, I still take notes. I don't know that maybe the, you know, that is better than what it used to be where everybody, nobody had a, you know, computer. You had to watch film at work and you had to, you know, take notes off of the PowerPoint that was up there. That eventually got to some sort of, you know, Adobe PowerPoint. But you're so. Yeah, if you just do, if you just do those four things, though, you give yourself a chance. At least you give yourself a chance. And I like to, you know, there's been a lot of guys over the years who've done that, who may not have been the most talented guys. And one of these guys actually saw him recently, he's still, I think he's coaching the league now is Anthony Levine. You remember Tony Levine, AJ?
Gumpy
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Aaron Rodgers
He was backup, backup safety for us. And I remember he was in the peace squad early and he, and he always brought energy every single day. And we called him the master of disaster because sometimes he would screw up the cards, you know, a little bit. But he always played balls to the wall and, and would make plays in practice. But he was also an energy guy. But what he did do was he was always on time and prepared. He knew all the special team stuff. He, you know, didn't make it about himself. He put his. Checked his ego at the door. And you know what Tony Levine did? He end up getting picked up by Baltimore, Played a long time in the league, double digit years in the league, became a team captain, a core special teamer, and a guy you can count on to come in and play safety for you. And, and with all due respect, Tony, like, you weren't the most talented guy in the league.
Pat McAfee
Chase Master Disaster.
Aaron Rodgers
But he got, but he got, he got by.
AQ Shipley
Great dude.
Aaron Rodgers
Not just got by. Great dude. Yeah, he not only got by, but he accepted, held because he understood the little things and never gave them a reason to get rid of them. And in my opinion, you can't have enough. Tony Levine's on your roster and he's one of those examples of guy who just like got it. He's like, I got it. This is how I'm gonna stick around.
Pat McAfee
He has a senior or junior afterwards, right? Tony Levine? Yeah, yeah. Okay. I do know him from special teams.
AQ Shipley
Yeah.
Conner
Weapon.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah, absolute weapon. I do remember him. 4. 41.
AQ Shipley
No, I think 41.
Pat McAfee
41, yeah, yeah, 41.
Gumpy
Great, great career with the Ravens.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I remember Tony Levine. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I do as well. And he's now Zito's telling me he's assistant special teams coordinator down at the Titans. With Colt down there, it's like, who's another guy?
AQ Shipley
The other guy, another guy. Just like same, same old. All those things. Anthony was or is. Same with Colt out of Montana, you.
Pat McAfee
Know, there's no way he's supposed to be in the NFL for eight to 10 years, but just like every day, what do you need? How do you need it?
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah, Byron. Byron Store is another guy. Byron Store would play with me at Cal. He was a teamer. He got in good with Gruden. He was, you know, never going to be a full time fullback in 21, but was a core special teamer. And then he went on to coach for a long time. He's still coaching, I believe, with Rich and Green Bay. You know, just guys who get it stick around. And you need those glue guys to kind of get the game within the game. And the guys that don't get it, you know, if you're a great player, it's not going to, it's not going to work out for you. If you're, if you're not a great player, you're going to be out of league pretty quick.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, very quick. Cup of coffee, they say about you. But if you're a great player and you also have that entire four core there. Yeah, man. Now that's what we're all trying to, you know, that's what you're all trying, I would hope. Boom. Causing Kales, how about him? Last night he went banana. Yeah.
Aaron Rodgers
Did he? What do you do? What do you do?
Pat McAfee
Caused an interception, had a couple sacks, three tackles. I mean, just fucking full chaos.
Aaron Rodgers
Kaleos Campbell, 30, 38, I think. Isn't he 38?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, 38 years old. Oh, I love it.
Aaron Rodgers
There we go. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. He went bananas last night and his energy always high. I assume he has never been late to anything. And then he also was the one who pulled a car over when Tyreek goes, yeah, bingo. Hey, what the. What's going. Be a good teammate? I mean, you're talking like everything all in one situation.
Aaron Rodgers
Six, six, eight. In that voice, too.
Pat McAfee
And the way he moves like. I've never really seen Shaq in like a public setting. I assume it's all very positive. The way Calais operates in those scenes. It's all, everybody, how you doing? Everybody feel happy. And then he moves along. Walter Payton, man.
Aaron Rodgers
I mean, Kalia, hall of Famer, that's.
Pat McAfee
Hey, Troy said it last night, one of her. And Troy, I think has a lot of say you know, in this entire thing, Troy feels he was like, he'll be a first ballot hall of Famer whenever he decides to retire in this entire thing, is what Troy said. Do you feel that way as well?
Aaron Rodgers
I do. I really do. I think, you know, he was a dominant player for many, many years in his career and he still obviously can get it done. But yes, I definitely think so.
Pat McAfee
That long at that position. Crazy, you know, with every human liking you too. Like, that's not normal. Like every human likes them. I think that goes into it for being immortalized for the game forever, you know, which is what the hall of Fame is. I think in the end, now I'm not in it or have a vote, but I would say put his ass in, kids. Go ahead, A.J.
Aaron Rodgers
Ohio, you might be in there. You might be in there for media at some point to keep this thing going.
Pat McAfee
Contribution to sport. I know, I've already thought about that. That'd be crazy. That'd be crazy if that whole thing happened. Been nominated three times already. No big deal. No big deal. I do appreciate the fact that they feel obligated to nominate me because of the chance. Hall of Fame doesn't mean anything.
Darren Rizzi
Yeah, no.
Pat McAfee
And also the. The chance of the contribution of sport. So they're. I think they're trying to like. Yeah, I think. I think so. I appreciate them. Hey, it's an honor to be on that list every single year. It's an honor to be on.
Aaron Rodgers
Hey, congrats. Congrats.
Pat McAfee
Thank you. Put Shane leclerc in there. Okay. Vinitari needs to be first ballot, too. I don't even know.
AJ Hawk
You better be.
Pat McAfee
I don't even know what we're talking about here, but I guess there's some drawback on a kicker being a first. A kicker is going to be first B Hall fair. I guess there is some people over there that feel that way. Vin needs to be a first one over there.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah, put them in. Put him in.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he said it. That means a lot more. That means a lot more. Go ahead, A.J.
Gumpy
Aaron, is it. Is it easier to do little things or be motivated when things aren't going great? Like, I know, at least from personal experience, like when you're pissed at somebody or things aren't going great, it's a little easier to wake up and go do the little things that you might not want to do. I'm just wondering, is that one of the positive you can have from things not going great right now, but everything kind of out there in front of you? If you do go on a run.
Aaron Rodgers
It's interesting. I would say it's the opposite, honestly, for most people, I think self motivated people. I think you're exactly right. I think, I think when things aren't going well, it's easier to wake up and go kind of like bite down on a bit and all right, let's get this shit done. You know, that's, that's my, that's my mentality. I don't know that that's the, that's the shared sentiment though, for everybody. I almost think that the attitude is, and this is a football adage, but winning kind of glosses over everything. I think a lot of times sometimes, you know, winning and dealing with success is the most difficult adversity because you start kind of resting on your laurels. Oh, I didn't study a whole lot last week, so I'm, you know, I don't need to. We won, you know, we're not going to, not going to lose, you know, and I think every great team or run kind of goes through that where, you know, we won 19 in a row at one point in Green Bay and you know, there was probably some things that started slipping a little bit that we weren't quite aware of. And unfortunately, you know, we lost in division round that year after going 15 1. So obviously there's some things that were going there I think, you know, for great competitors. Yeah, when you're down, that's when you backs against the wall and you got to examine everything. But I don't know if that's the sentiment with, with every player across the league when, when things aren't going great.
Pat McAfee
You would think that would perspective, you know, that's why like in these college season, whenever you're thinking about a team, it's like they got embarrassed the week before. Their coach is going to, they're going to go back, they're going to kind of dive in more. I think that's why aj you probably feel that way too because every time you've ever done terrible, it's like that next week the anxiety is so high about it happening again. That's, that's how I was pretty much.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah, that's how I am too. That's how I am. Yeah. Just so badly want to just. Let's get to Sunday. Let's get to Sunday, man. Let's go. Yeah, do it again.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah. And I was thinking if I do that again, I'm gonna have no job and I'm gonna.
Gumpy
Yeah, that's healthy. That's a healthy fe. I think that that's a motivation thing, like healthy. I think I'm not gonna be here anymore.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, not enough. Adam veteran. We're just talking about him. He was in his 20 something year, 22nd year or whatever. Whatever the. Whatever it was, okay? It was old. It been able to vote and had been able to buy tobacco and scratch off his career. And there was something that needed to be said to somebody like a coach. And Vin was certainly the guy that should go say something to coach or whatever, right? Special teams coach. I'm not doing that. He says. I'm like, why? Why are you not doing that? He goes, I'm so old, so expensive. They'll fire me. I'll get fired. I'm like, vin, you're not getting. You're not going to get fired. He's like, yeah, they will get my. You don't think they want my ass out of here for a younger, cheaper model? You're. Do you even fucking know the league? Like, he started like talking shit to me and I'm like, bro, I'm like, vinnie, they are not going to cut you. Vinnie, can I. Can. I promise you they're not going to. He's like, okay, yo, you know everything. Yeah, you've been in the league for a long time. Okay. You know, and then he just kind of like walks off or whatever. And it was like Vinnie had an actual fear for every day he was in there for whatever reason. I'm too old, I'm too expensive now. When I was young, he was. Didn't get drafted. Oh, this is going to happen in the middle of his career. Oh, they're going to think I'm going to get hurt, like if I miss a couple. It's like every day Vinnie thought he was going to get fired if he didn't do something great. It's like, that's a healthy thing to have. I don't know how many people got. It seems like not a lot Nicole's feeling right now.
AJ Hawk
None.
AQ Shipley
Can't get comfortable. Matt Slater, he was one of my favorite teammates. Every day, like how he showed up, you know, kind of like the same mode of all these guys that we've been talking about. Like, every day he was like, D. But man, like, am I. I'll be playing for the Argonauts every time, every rep, whether it's a joint practice. Because, like, Slater was, I mean, balls to the wall. Every rep didn't matter what he was doing. Scout team, defense, wide receiver, special teams, whatever. But moving on, I got a good question for You, I think a good question.
Pat McAfee
It is a good question.
AQ Shipley
I think for these young quarterbacks. And you talked about kind of obviously you've been in the league forever. So you, you know, March, otas, all this shit now. I, I feel like time is so much cut back in the building. Is it almost a necessity for these young quarterbacks to kind of have an off season quarterback coach or somebody, I guess third party or somebody that they can have on their team? They can kind of check in with, work out, work through things throughout the off season. I know receivers, they can go and run routes, maybe catch balls from receivers, DBs, same movement stuff. But as far as knowing schemes, a lot of things are pretty similar team to team. But for QB trying to develop with so many things on their plate so early. What do you think about that off season quarterback coach type things as younger quarterbacks when it comes to development?
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah, I mean I have an interesting perspective because I never had that, you know, I never really felt like I needed, you know, an off season kind of quarterback guru with me. I mean I had Tom Clements. Tom is the best quarterback guru that I know and so I got to work with him starting in March. But I do think the off seasons are so very important for young players to figure out how to take care of your body during that time and how much football to do, how much clearing your mind to do. But at some point it's got to kick in. This is a full time job and I think it's a different game, you know, than when I was a young player where victory Monday meant, yeah, you don't come in Monday, you don't come in Tuesday. Right. That's not really the case anymore.
Pat McAfee
No more see you Wednesdays.
Aaron Rodgers
Why I joke about that, you know, the few times we won, which twice on Thursday. So seeing Wednesday didn't really hit as much as you know, when we actually won game on Sunday.
Pat McAfee
But you felt real good that first time. You felt.
Aaron Rodgers
I did feel good in Tennessee. I see you Wednesday. Yeah. But I do feel like when I say it's a full time job, that means you're in every day, you know, you're doing something football every single day. So even if it was like, hey, but you're kind of off on Wednesday, just get a workout on Monday or Tuesday. It's never really, you know, maybe one twice at most any in a season where you're like, I'm going to take Tuesday fully off and not go in. But if I were to do that, you know, I'd be in the Tubs, I'd be in the cold plunge, I'd be in the sauna, I'd be doing red light therapy. I'd give me body work. You're never just off. I think that's the thing. You're never just off. And even in the off season, I think, I think it's important to find a way to turn that switch off. But you're turning off your brain. You're not turning off your body. Like you guys still take care of your body. I think if I was a young player, what I would do is I would seek out a veteran guy who knows the game and just pick his brain and get a mentor. But get a mentor that's played at a high level, that's done it, that can help you, that you maybe watch film with once a week or twice a week, or maybe you do fundamental stuff together or maybe just talk about the role of being a CEO as a quarterback. I think that's really, really important. And sometimes you're lucky enough to have that guy in the room. And you've been talking about Anthony, like Joe Flacco to me would be a perfect guy. Joe's won a Super Bowl. He's been around for a long time. He's played on a couple other teams, played at a high level for a long, long time. Like what a great resource to just be like, man, let me just pick this to his brain and learn. Or if you know, I'm a young player. Reaching out to a Matt Stafford, you know, Matt's been around forever. He played at a super high level or retired guys like a Matt Ryan, you know, Matt's a great dude. Like reaching out to a guy like that and say, hey, can we just talk once a week about what it's like to play in this league? What do I need to do, how I can get better, how I can figure out my Monday to Saturday schedule? Just like how did you prepare? What did you watch on Monday, What'd you watch on Tuesday, What'd you watch on Wednesday? How did you approach the install meetings during the week? You know, what days did you like to work out on to make your body feel best? Any like little hacks, you know, that you like that helped help you feel good coming up till game day? Like, I don't know, that's as a young player, if you don't have in the room or even if you do like having an outside resource like that I think would be really good.
Pat McAfee
That's whole, that's the whole convo about these young quarterbacks right now.
AJ Hawk
Yep.
Pat McAfee
And obviously Jaden's having great success and CJ had great success last year and he's going to continue to have great success. So I think, you know, fans are like expecting them to be great immediately upon getting dropped in there. And then it's like you start looking back in time outside of Peyton. Okay, Peyton is different, but he has the most interceptions in the history of any rookie quarterback. And I think Nick Saban maybe said. Coach Nick Saban came out and said Peyton's mental toughness was built up to have a lot of failures in that first year as a rookie quarterback. But you talk about everybody else, yourself included. You didn't have to play immediately, watch it and inevitably become one of the greatest of all time. It's like, I think that is a huge development for quarterbacks to have and to get is like it's. And take a breath. Even after everything you just did, high school, college, to get to this point. It's been a lot now take a breath and learn what this next one is and go forward. But some places it's never going to be possible because they need it now, need it now. That's why hearing you say reach out to these retired guys is cool because is that the quarterback community? I don't think I know quarterback community. Pretty opening and welcoming. Like if people reach out. Pretty, pretty. Is that a normal.
Aaron Rodgers
I mean, I, I think so. I mean every, every time when I was a young player and I just see some of the older guys at, at Tahoe especially, like it was always kind of like, hey, you're, you're in the fraternity, you know, like you're one of us. And you know, the Dan Marinos and John Elway's. I mean, Steve Young has been a good friend of mine for a while, somebody I've reached out to when I was younger player to ask questions about certain things. And he was great, you know, and we, I think the guys, I don't know, I think guys would enjoy that, you know, to still be connected, to help a young guy going through it. It is different. You know, I SAT for three years. Jay Love, set for three years. You know, there's been. Tom set. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Patrick sat behind Alex Smith.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah. I mean, and the flip side of that is some guys are ready to play in year one, but that doesn't end the story. You know, like, I think our media world wants to crown a guy after a year. Second year is really hard because now you got 17 games of film plus playoffs on a guy to try and figure out how to stop him. And that's why it's so impressive for a guy like Lamar or anybody to win multiple MVPs because you've had years to game plan this guy and try and figure out, okay, you know, there was a time where everybody was zero blitz and Lamar, you know, let's zero blitz Lamar like crazy. Well, we got through that stretch. There's stretches your career where you got to get through whatever the label is on how to stop, you know, you and the way you play. And first you got to establish what the label is because you got to go out and ball out and then them try and figure out how to stop you. But. But it doesn't stop after one good year. I made the Pro bowl my first year. Well, okay, well then do it again the next year. You know, like it's going to be harder. Now they got. Now you have six games, these division opponents that spend a lot of their off season scouting those three games trying to figure out how to stop you. So the second year is really hard. Then you got to kind of get over a lump at some point where now there's enough film out there that, you know, you've seen a lot more, but you're always working on your game and always working on your preparation and always working on the little things. And I think any older quarterback, whether still playing or, you know, I think that's part of the fun, part of the legacy is to help the next generation. So I don't know how much that goes on. I think, I think it would help certain people in certain positions. But even like Jaden after this year, I mean, it's going to be a good year wherever how he finishes, we got a real good team, you know, that probably be in the playoffs.
Pat McAfee
Offensive rookie of the year. Congrats.
Aaron Rodgers
Offensive rookie of the year. Yeah. I mean, but then there's going to be 17 plus games of film out there on you, and you're going to have to watch that as intently as they're watching it to figure out how they're going to try and stop you and what you can do better. And then you reinvent yourself every single year. And which is why it's so impressive to see a guy like Lamar bring him up again because he has gone from the most dynamic athlete in the league, which he was. And I'm not saying he's not still. I mean, he's got to be in the top couple. If he's not still the most dynamic, I mean, with the ball in his hands, it's like him and Tyreek Hill or two of the scariest guys I.
Pat McAfee
Think would fall on the team.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah. But now he's done such a great job of throwing the ball on time from the pocket. That makes it really tough to stop.
Pat McAfee
What did they do to you? Patrick Mahomes? They won what Cover two and just said he's going to get bored. He's going to get bored. He's not going to be able to handle running the ball and then having to play defense. That's what they did to Patrick Mahomes. He obviously gets through it. They won a Super bowl during the entire thing. What did they do to you? What was the first thing that they started doing to you? Do you recall?
Aaron Rodgers
Well, usually starts, at least back then it started with pressure. They would try and pressure you early and see if you can pick up pressure, if you can deal the ball, if you can throw hot, if you can do production adjustments. Then a lot of times, and it went for us, you know, it was, it was playing a lot of too high. All right, can you be patient? Can you be patient taking check downs? Can you be patient throwing the ball.
Pat McAfee
Tail as old as time.
Aaron Rodgers
Can we. And then, and then for me, because, you know, I was, I was extending play so much, it was, it was really the rush patterns that changed. So it was really box rushes to just like interior, you know, very stout in the middle and not rushing past the quarterback.
Pat McAfee
Keep you in a well, brother. Keep you in a well, brother. That's what they're trying to do. Yeah, they're still doing that because you're fucking wide open out there.
AQ Shipley
I mean, that sucks for DBs, though.
Pat McAfee
What's that?
AQ Shipley
Like quarterbacks like Aaron or like Big Ben or somebody was like, yeah, keep him in a well. But that's, you know, four or five seconds. Four seconds when you got guys to adjust. And then when you play, when these quarterbacks play with these receivers, we see with Patrick and Travis, like, he knows as soon as he breaks like Travis and okay, I'm going this way. And then boom, he comes balls right on him. Devontae, Jordy, whoever it is, like you play with these guys so long, you know their intention, you know their body language. So it's like, yeah, keeping them in well is great. But then when you have that extra time where you got to cover where it doesn't matter, you can call the perfect coverage on third and eight, when you got to extend like you can't cover, you can't cover that 5 second.
Pat McAfee
Plays all of a sudden become a Nightmare for those who have to run all over the field and can't take.
Aaron Rodgers
Well, that was always, I think the backbreakers, I think db, you'd probably agree with this. You know, when, when, when they clamp us, when they would clamp us and I would extend to play and get out of pocket and find somebody after, you know, five or six seconds, those are back breakers for the defense because you just don't have a defense. We were talking about that with, with D.J.
Gumpy
Reed.
Aaron Rodgers
He was laughing. He said, he said, yeah, man, I just wasn't ready for the 45 yard comeback route. He's covering a guy, covering guy. The guys run a vertical, he's running with him, and then the guy breaks his route off, you know, and you know, long scramble and completes a pass. He says, yeah, I didn't have that on the, you know, on the old tape I watched this week. He didn't have that route. He didn't show me that route.
Pat McAfee
The cut ups, hey, that's perfect segue for this particular question because I guess 27 of the 35 sacks that have come for this one particular player are four plus second place. Yep. So a lot of people don't really know. And he's a rookie, he's young. I mean, there's. It kind of all ties to this. Go ahead, con man.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Aaron, Big news today. Shane Waldron getting fired as the Bears OC and obviously because of that, there's a lot of conversation about Caleb and the offensive line in Chicago and all that stuff. But what do you think is kind of going on with Caleb just personally when it comes to all these things happening? You know, there's a radio show that's saying, you know, some vets wanted Waldron out and they were asking if Bajan could get some time. But for Caleb as a rookie, you know, what do you think he's kind of going through mentally and how do you think the rest of the season kind of goes for him here after the change at OC and kind of getting a fresh voice in his helmet now?
Aaron Rodgers
Well, unfortunately, that's the nature of our league now, right? It's. It's. Coaches and play callers on both sides of the ball aren't making it through a season. There's been a lot of quarterbacks who've had rough starts to their career with multiple play callers. I feel like at one point Alex Smith had, you know, four different play callers. First four years or something. I believe in San Fran, you can fact check me on that. But I know there's a number of play callers and there's been a lot of, you know, a lot of guys who figure it out over the years, but it doesn't make it easy on the quarterback for sure. There's just not a lot of patience anymore in the league. It's, it's, it's, you know, get this guy out of here. And unfortunately what happens, and I really mean this is a lot of it is rinse and repeat under the guise of brand new scheme, brand new approach. And that's, that's the way the league is going. Too often there's not the patience to go, listen, I believe in X, this person, this team, this coordinator, this player. And we're going to weather these storms because it's going to make us a mentally tough group or a mentally tough person and we're going to get behind these people. And this is, I don't care what you have to say outside the building, this is what we're going to do. And for a young player to come in like that, be drafted first overall with all the pressure, scrutiny, expectations, obviously with the roster moves they made, and then you get rid of the, the guy calling the plays after what, nine games, 10 games, something like that, that's, that's a tough, that's a tough deal for him. But I don't know him. I know, you know, I, I know a little bit about him and I.
Pat McAfee
Don'T give him advice.
Aaron Rodgers
He's strong enough. I'm not giving, he's strong enough.
Pat McAfee
Listening. No, I'm joking, I'm joking. Drake may, though, that's a moment between he and C.J. stroud. There's a moment between C.J. stroud, which obviously he, he's strong enough.
Aaron Rodgers
Mentally to get through this. He is, he is. You know, and Chicago's a great sports town. They got great sports fans. But the consensus for all fans is if we're not winning now, everybody needs to get the hell out. And listen, there are places I'm sure, that are broken, you know, locker rooms that may not be sticking together or staffs that need shake ups from time to time. But I would continue to preach patience for players and for coaches. But you know what? It starts with ownership. Ownership has to come out, make strong statements. This is the plan, this is what we're doing. We're going to trust the process or trust the guys that are in place. Unless there's a major problem, an issue, an arrest, you know, or something that throws a wrench in the plans. I don't know. I'm Just thinking of what could, what could derail. Hey listen, we're giving this thing three years, you know, this is what we're doing. And I don't care what the outside opinions are, but unfortunately I think there's too many too. There's too often the opinions of. Whether it's the social media world or the incredible experts out there talking about football actually impacts Bill POTUS yesterday, Bill Belichick, billion dollar. A billion dollar organizations.
Pat McAfee
Bill told us that yesterday. We're mind blown like because we had heard that that was potentially the case in some spots because our name had been mentioned maybe in a coach had had to answer for something that I fucking said on my show for him. He's like, do you know that I had to actually because you. And I'm like, oh no, that can't be real. And then we asked Bill yesterday. He's like back in Cleveland they were saying things in the morning paper. He would have to answer the questions that were basically coming through the opinion parts of newspapers. He's like, this has been happening since the beginning of time, seemingly with teams. That's wild. That is wild. Think about. But hey, makes it fun, doesn't it? That's what we've been saying this whole time. We should be listened to. Duh. Yeah, we should be the ones. Just give us a team, please. What we back tomorrow with another great show that'll impact the NFL.
Darius Butler
Looks hilarious too because it was right on the heels of the Broncos thing where you're like this guy can't be out here.
AJ Hawk
What are we doing?
Darius Butler
This guy cannot be out here.
Pat McAfee
That was, that was tough. That block field goal for the Chief. Did you see that? Did you see the Chiefs win on a blocked field goal?
Aaron Rodgers
I did. What, what did you say?
Pat McAfee
That it was just the worst form I've ever seen from that. From that particular spot too. Field side, field side, field side, end. That's like the most important part. Those three right there are a big deal obviously. Cuz science, that's where the ball is headed. So for him just to like tuck his head, squat his ass, be on his heels, like that is the last thing we need. And I, I would like to let Alex fory know that, you know, I, I said a lot of things. It was about the way he was on the field and it's not his fault. He shouldn't be there. Clearly. I saw some film from earlier games. He should not be there. Like that is. He should not be there. That's just the way it is.
AQ Shipley
Is got to point it Out.
Pat McAfee
Well, somebody should have seen that.
Darius Butler
He's probably thinking the same thing.
Pat McAfee
Like, thank God. Jesus Christ. He's put a circle on me. Thank God, Coach. Give me it.
Ty Schmidt
As someone who's been in those meetings and stuff like that versus, like a columnist who has.
Pat McAfee
No, I agree. But I did.
Aaron Rodgers
Oh, they don't have a clue. What do you mean? No, what I was going to say was I used to vote. I used to sit my last year in Green Bay and Rich Versace's special teams meetings when I could. And he used to always say the most difficult position on the field goal team was those spots right there, those three spots to the rush side. And it was just like, you know, he would challenge those guys. And I mean, I love Rich in general. He's a amazing coach, you know, and great motivator. But he would talk about how difficult that he's like one of the most difficult positions in sports. It's terrible. You just got guys just trying to run you over every time.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And the. The actual technique is called die slowly. So that first word, pretty important. Going to die. Okay. That is just. We just need you to die slowly. Which, once again, that guy was not supposed to be on the front line. Nope. No, that guy was not supposed to be there. That. That was not his. That was not his role. And on the flip side, Leo was.
Aaron Rodgers
The kick going in, though, was. I mean, could you tell trajectory?
Pat McAfee
Will said it felt good. Too quick. I mean, he. Right away. I mean, he exploded through that ball.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You would have thought with where it was blocked at, you would think that would be like an a rush, an a gap rush with where. Because he gets over so quick, you know, I mean, he is right in front of the ball. That. That very rarely happens in field goals, which goes back to. I mean, the technique was just absolute crop.
AQ Shipley
Very rarely happens. Huh. Listen, I don't think he had control. Control of his body.
Pat McAfee
No.
AJ Hawk
What possessed.
Pat McAfee
What do you think? Okay. Okay. Obviously witchcraft. It could have been. I mean, the war is real. True. That concert was insane. I know you've been to one or two. The Taylor Swift.
Aaron Rodgers
Two. Two. Yeah, two.
Pat McAfee
Insane.
Aaron Rodgers
Insane.
Pat McAfee
I couldn't even imagine what it was like over there in MetLife. I. I don't know.
Aaron Rodgers
It was. It was insane. Yeah. I was with your buddy Miles over there.
Pat McAfee
Just talk to Glenn. I don't know if you heard it. Miles's buddy Glenn, we just talked to in the first hour in this entire thing. How is Miles doing?
Aaron Rodgers
Big. Big rivalry between those two. Isn't big rivalry Both handsome ones.
Pat McAfee
One's want one of them can really dance.
Gumpy
There is now probably that's Rooster and hanging.
Aaron Rodgers
Glenn. Glenn can't dance. Is that the.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if Glenn can or can't dance.
Gumpy
I bet Glenn can dance.
Pat McAfee
I know. That's what. That's what.
Aaron Rodgers
That's what Miles said. Yeah. I don't know.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Now that. Now that you mentioned it, I think I did hear Miles is doing his. Right.
Aaron Rodgers
Said he couldn't. Said he couldn't drum either. You know. You know the. The Drum Line movie?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Him and Nick Cannon. They can't read. Yeah, I remember that entire thing. Well, different movie, but he was. Let's say. Let's say he was. He was at Aaron's. He was at your birthday.
Aaron Rodgers
Remiss.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it was at your birthday. He was. He was dancing and drumming at the same time. He said, can Hangman do this? No, I don't think so. He did that.
Darius Butler
Sweet.
Pat McAfee
He can dance his ass off.
AJ Hawk
Truly.
Pat McAfee
I watched Miles Teller's feet start to spark flames on this dance, literally while they were moving in front of him. Holy. I got captivated by that.
AJ Hawk
And plus, he. He also knows the most important thing in the history of mankind.
Pat McAfee
No one.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I mean no one. Yep.
AJ Hawk
All pizza's the hut.
Pat McAfee
Sent me a picture of him eating Pizza Hut pizza. Sent me a picture of him eating Pizza Hut pizza. He said, I love when you guys talk about Pizza Hut, Mom. It is. I love when you guys talk about Pizza Hut legend. Then he sent me a picture of his Pizza Hut pizza. That was hilarious.
AJ Hawk
God damn right.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah. How does somebody that much Pizza Hut and look like that?
Pat McAfee
I don't get it.
Ty Schmidt
Good question.
AJ Hawk
What do you say you tell us?
Ty Schmidt
You tell us.
Pat McAfee
What are you saying?
Gumpy
He's a genetic freak.
Aaron Rodgers
Glenn. I mean, Glenn mentioned it was epic, didn't he, this morning or not?
Pat McAfee
He did not.
Ty Schmidt
I don't think Glenn.
Aaron Rodgers
No, he didn't.
Gumpy
It was.
Aaron Rodgers
It was a different show. I think he was on the View talking about it.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, of course. Of course.
Gumpy
You watch the View, Definitely.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You've seen clips certainly in the last couple weeks. The same show, right?
Gumpy
Same premise.
Pat McAfee
Talk, review.
Aaron Rodgers
Same show, right? The same. Same as this.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. We're viewing, we're talking. Yeah. The whole thing. Got it going on. What a time. Anyways, let's talk about. Can we talk about a little drama? There's a little drama.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah, for sure.
Pat McAfee
Ton Diggs has a question for you.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
And I want to read this quote, word for word. So it doesn't get taken out of context. Okay, let me just read the quote. It says, you want to win games and do great things with those type of legends who put in more time and work than Mike McCarthy ever did.
Pat McAfee
Okay, that was. That was not.
Ty Schmidt
Is Mike McCarthy a hard worker or. That's pretty.
Pat McAfee
There's a lot of words you left out at the beginning.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, just. That was a quote.
Aaron Rodgers
Who said that?
Pat McAfee
Micah Parsons. Aaron, Listen, there's no reason.
Ty Schmidt
That's what he said.
Pat McAfee
There's no reason to get into. I did not know that's how was going to go. A word for word recreation, if you will, of Michael Parsons. Michael Parsons was asked about Mike McCarthy being on the last year of his contract. Michael Parsons then explained about how coaches. And Mike knows this. Coaches can go coach for another 10 years. He's worried about, like, Zack Martin and other guys that have been around Dallas Cowboys. And then he ended it with saying, you know, those guys, those legends have done more work than Mike McCarthy could ever do, or something like that. That's very kind of you to phrase it that way. Okay. Yeah, it was definitely. It was. It was certainly a shot killed him. It was certainly. It was just.
Ty Schmidt
Does Mike McCarthy work hard?
Pat McAfee
Yes. Mike, what are your thoughts on Michael? I think that would be a good. Good angle on this entire thing, but, yeah, it was. He said he didn't intend to bury anybody on his show. Right. Said that. So we got to take him for his word. But it certainly wasn't.
Aaron Rodgers
But he did. Does he have a Tuesday show?
Pat McAfee
I think I go Monday.
Aaron Rodgers
Monday. Monday.
Pat McAfee
No, Mike.
Aaron Rodgers
I love Mike. I love Mike. Mike's. Mike's a Pittsburgh tough through and through. Man. Love Mike. Thirteen incredible years together. So I ain't got much to say besides that, man. Mike's my boy. I love Mike. And, you know, sometimes some people say things. Shit, I've said a lot of things I want to say back. I'd like to. Like to sit back, but hold on to that one. Words going out.
Pat McAfee
Nothing about.
Aaron Rodgers
Nothing about COVID of course, but.
Pat McAfee
Of course not. No treatments. But the. Or, you know, whatever the. Mike McCarthy had some jokes yesterday. He did because there's conversation about the Cowboys stadium and the sun getting in, and there was. They had an actual shade blocking the press conference because of the sun that was getting in. So there's just so much going on in Dallas right now, and Mike McCarthy's right in the middle. Evolve it.
Aaron Rodgers
And listen, listen. What I know about Mike is if anybody can handle that down there, it's Big Mike. Big Mike is built for. He's built for adversity. And, you know, I. I know just talking to some guys that played down there, and I. And I read part of an article that was out a few weeks ago about the tours and stuff that are down there. You know, there's some interesting things that goes on in Dallas, for sure. I've never been there, so I can't speak first hand, but if anybody can handle what's going on in there, it's Big Mike. So I hope, you know, I feel bad for Dak getting banged up, but I hope they can figure things out and hopefully. I think Mike is almost back, isn't he?
Pat McAfee
He played.
Darren Rizzi
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
His first game.
Aaron Rodgers
Oh, he played very fast.
Pat McAfee
Very fast. Very still. So fast.
AJ Hawk
Still got it.
Pat McAfee
Still good for grateful ball.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah. Well, I love Mike and hope that can get it sorted out.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I hope they do too. Shake their hands. Yeah. Big Mike McCarthy said, I talked to Micah in person. We handle it like gentlemen do. Face to head.
Ty Schmidt
Big Mike football.
Pat McAfee
And then we moved on. Yeah. Teammates don't understand what's going on here. I'm working my ass off for losing. What you want from me, McCarthy? I like this comment when it does create questions for others in the locker room. Something that I've always done. Conversation has to happen.
Aaron Rodgers
So I would. I don't know if he still. If this was the case, but I will say I said something that I wanted back in a post game press conference. And the next day, once I walked in the facility, eight different people said, hey, C, Mike. It's like it was like everybody in the building know when 12 gets in the building and you see him, you tell his ass to get upstairs to see Mike. I wonder if it was. Listen, I apologize. You know, we hugged it out, we had a couple laughs. But I wonder if it was the same. Like, hey, if you see. When Micah gets in there, you see 11 in the building. He's number 11, right? You see 11 and then you tell him to come see. Come see Big Mike.
Pat McAfee
Listen, Michael might need to talk to you.
Aaron Rodgers
I hope so. Just because I know what that felt like for me. I was like, damn, how many people knew? It was like cafeteria. The janitor said it. The equipment guy, train, or. I couldn't even do any treatment. Nope.
Pat McAfee
You getting called to the carpet. Everybody knows. Hey, listen, we're not even allowed to touch your legs right now. You gotta go.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah, get your ass out of here. Get up there.
Pat McAfee
Geez. That's what the equipment room. Yeah.
Aaron Rodgers
Everybody knew about it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, everybody got called.
Aaron Rodgers
They had like, did like a team wide meeting.
Pat McAfee
Hey, excuse me.
Aaron Rodgers
You see that dumbass coming here?
Pat McAfee
You tell maybe even show the video of what you said? Okay.
Aaron Rodgers
Did you hear what he just said?
Pat McAfee
So he doesn't talk to any of you until he talks to me. Okay, Send him up here. What a time. Big Mike's a legend. I'm excited to see how it all works out. Doesn't seem like it's going to be great in the end. Speaking of great in the end. And NFC north team is looking for that. Ty has a question for you. Aaron.
Darius Butler
Yeah, Aaron, last week we talked about Jared Goff and kind of regression praise on him, rightfully so. And then obviously he has arguably the worst game of his career on Sunday night. Throws five picks. I don't think you've definitely never had a situation like that. But is that just like a Murphy's Law type deal where just everything that could have possibly went wrong did go wrong? And how easy. I mean, obviously they win, so it's a little bit easier, but how easy is it to flush a performance like that moving on to the next week?
Aaron Rodgers
I mean, I think if you got a good process, it's easy to do that. I mean, it's crazy though, right? I mean, very. We played the best half of our season against Houston and beat him by eight. Didn't turn the ball over. They turned the ball over, I don't know, at least five times. And they beat him at Houston. I mean, it's a fucking crazy thing. Jared hadn't thrown five incompletions, I don't think. In a game. Yeah, right. For how many weeks?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AQ Shipley
Crazy.
Aaron Rodgers
And then he throws five picks. I love Jared. I'm sure he'll bounce back. And the amazing stat, though, is this a true stat, that he's done four more picks seven times and he's won every single one of those games?
Pat McAfee
Is that real? Yes.
AJ Hawk
Yep. Seven know.
Aaron Rodgers
That's wild. I mean, that's why stats are for what. What Big Mike used to say, age stats for losers.
Pat McAfee
And he.
Gumpy
But he did say also conflict is good. Like he's not scared of conflict.
Pat McAfee
He's not scared. Conflict, conflict.
Aaron Rodgers
NFC north, though. It's the Min. Minnesota one. So what's the NFC north looking like right now?
Pat McAfee
Green Bay fresh off a. Bye.
Aaron Rodgers
Bye. There we go. Thank you.
Pat McAfee
No problem.
Ty Schmidt
Good.
Pat McAfee
Lions.
Aaron Rodgers
All right. Okay. And the Pack still plays the Bears twice.
Darius Butler
Bears twice, Lions one more time and Vikings one more time.
Pat McAfee
Just.
Aaron Rodgers
Oh, so they have four more division games.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And just real Quick. The Vikings down seven nothing. That Colts at halftime.
AJ Hawk
So 33 nothing.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah. That was the comeback game. They had to go.
Darren Rizzi
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's a new year. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Saturday, Adam eating oranges in the. In the locker room.
Pat McAfee
I don't know what happened in there. Has he ever answered?
AJ Hawk
Get the slices out, boys.
Pat McAfee
We did. What happened? That's a big comeback. That's a big comeback ever. Big for a Sunday afternoon. Big comeback.
Aaron Rodgers
Turn the, Turn the tables there.
Pat McAfee
Pretty good MC north is cooking, though. And turn the tables would be nice. Could still happen. A lot of teams still very much in this thing. Good luck against the Colts this weekend, brother. We're incredibly proud of you.
Aaron Rodgers
I don't care if you mean that or not, but I appreciate that.
Pat McAfee
Good luck, man.
Aaron Rodgers
I know, I know Ty is rooting for me. Ty, who's Iowa got this week? You got a cupcake? Iowa, Ohio State or something?
Darius Butler
No, we got Maryland. We got Maryland, but I'm actually at the point where I don't give a anymore. You can't go out to UCLA and drop the ball like you just can't do it. You can't.
Pat McAfee
Especially after what happened with Sullivan. Here we go. It's going to be a. They just didn't block.
Darius Butler
You know, you rush for 250 yards every single week. And then you decide, hey, UCLA sucks. We're going to the Rose Bowl.
Pat McAfee
We.
Darius Butler
We don't even have to block this week. And then turns out he gets dinged up. We got some guy playing quarterback I've never seen before. He was actually kind of spinning it. Kind of, kind of want him moving forward, but it's just. I mean, it's just.
Aaron Rodgers
You were big on him the previous week.
Pat McAfee
Big time. Big time.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
This is the guy. They're just so Jekyll and Hyde. I can't do it. I mean, they're world.
Aaron Rodgers
Well, I will. I will say it's been a while since Iowa played in that. In the Rose Bowl. Right. So they just weren't used to the stadium. They just weren't used to that stadium.
Darius Butler
No, we played very recently when Christian McCaffrey was at Stanford. Got me about 45 to 7 in, you know, in the Rose bowl, but it wasn't that long ago.
Pat McAfee
Go Hawks. Go Hawks, go.
Darius Butler
Belichick was talking about how fucking how big of a genius Ference was yesterday. So that's, you know, that's all I need.
Pat McAfee
Speaking. Speaking of college ball, tonight, College Football Playoff, second live ranking, will be released. This 12 team playoff thing is sweet. I think it's it's going to be electrifying.
Aaron Rodgers
Should have had it. Should have had it 20 years ago.
Pat McAfee
Agreed. Man, isn't it crazy? The NCAA sells its right to deem a champion to the bcs, then that just becomes. We're picking two teams that get to play for it and everybody else. You're going to win a BCS bowl, though. They made a BCS bowl. Became like a thing. West Virginia, we won our first BCS bowl. It was like a big deal. Big. Huge. But it didn't make any sense. Now after we won a couple times, it was like, should be able to earn our way. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Oh, this doesn't mean so.
Pat McAfee
And then UCF has that entire. They just deem themselves national champion and then they're like, you know what? Let's make it four. That'll help it all out. And then it's like hope. Nope, that did not up. Now you have to win four straight. If you don't get a first round buy to win an addie, I think. I think we are going to find out, you know, at least everybody gets a fair shake at it, you know, Aaron, who would have had.
Aaron Rodgers
Who would have had BYU and Boise State in last week and they both won, so they'll probably both still be there.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. And IU brother. Look at that. Look at IU brother.
Aaron Rodgers
Where's what?
Pat McAfee
Indiana University. Exactly.
Aaron Rodgers
Oh, yeah, There we go. Signetti, man.
Pat McAfee
Hey, he's a dog.
AJ Hawk
Like the six.
Aaron Rodgers
Get him back on the program, man.
Pat McAfee
I know, I know. He was on.
Aaron Rodgers
Get him back on.
Pat McAfee
He dropped a great jam. I was watching it. Every time he talks, I have to listen because I have no idea where he's headed. You have no. He's going to bury somebody. There's a chance.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Is he going to talk shit? Probable. But what is he. And then is it going to be something incredibly motivating or like leadership wise? It's like maybe that guy is special. All right. We appreciate the hell out of you, brother.
Aaron Rodgers
Cal wins out 8 and 4. Put them in the playoff.
Ty Schmidt
Something to think about.
Darius Butler
Done deal.
AJ Hawk
West Virginia, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. West Virginia's got a path. West Virginia's got a path still in the Big 12 championship. So maybe we'll see you.
Aaron Rodgers
I bet they do. Yeah. See you there.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, Aaron Rodgers. What was that? We're laughing stock right next to Cal.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Yes, you are.
Pat McAfee
I love Cal. I love Cal. Okay. They're very kind to me. It was an awesome environment. West. They got something that West Virginia doesn't have, though. Okay. And that's like academic standards that are at a level, you know, through the roof. We can't be talking the same thing. Football, certainly.
AJ Hawk
And Olympians. Don't leave them out, too.
Pat McAfee
They got a lot of Olympians. Our rifle team, though, is just pumping out.
AJ Hawk
Really? Because I thought the conversation from the Olympics was, how the hell are we sucking at rifling in the Olympics?
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, I forgot. They didn't take any. West Virginia.
Ty Schmidt
That was just for day one. They turned that thing.
Pat McAfee
Well. And then they had those gangsters from those countries we never heard of turning that s sideways.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah, that's right.
Pat McAfee
And then putting her hand in her pocket. Don't win a gold. Don't be too obvious. I'll take a silver. I guess I was doing this and the Olympics. You tell me, how's that even possible? And then that one lady had like, what, six different.
Darius Butler
Yeah, the little bifocal on top of the.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah, she was impressional.
Ty Schmidt
Hit man.
Darius Butler
Terminator.
Pat McAfee
Hit woman. Dead.
Darius Butler
You got a basketball team now, though, so West Virginia.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
That's a real deal. We're not gonna become a basketball school, but it'll be good to be both.
Darius Butler
Well, I don't know.
AJ Hawk
Maybe.
Pat McAfee
I don't know.
Gumpy
Where's old Huggy Bear coaching.
AJ Hawk
Precinct?
Gumpy
Bob Huggins is somewhere, right? Didn't he any coaching somewhere?
Pat McAfee
He is dying to do it. Let's get to a break. Coach Riz will be on the other side. Coach Riz, can you. Can you wait three minutes? I gotta go to the bathroom. He just hopped on. He just. He just. Okay. I appreciate you. Sorry we're wasting. Let's not waste his time.
Ty Schmidt
Huggy Baron Tuesday.
Pat McAfee
He's got a lot of time. Well, let's not. Let's. Let's not. I'm a whole. No, cuz. I'd like to talk to you. Yeah. And this man did.
AJ Hawk
He gets the.
Pat McAfee
He knows I got a kiss. I. It's not a. So it's a little different story for.
AQ Shipley
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
What he had going on. He just shows up and says, hey, where's your dumper? I'm gonna break it. Yeah. And then says, I'm gonna go ahead coach football game and I'm gonna win. Pat McAfee
What's the hoodie all about? You Colt?
AJ Hawk
No, no, the hoodie's just kind of become part of the look. I feel like, especially during this winter season.
Pat McAfee
Oh, really? Bundle up. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
You know, you never want to be too cold, never want to be too warm.
Pat McAfee
Oh, that's what they say. Right there in the middle.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, exactly. Walk the line.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Why is Chuck always in here shivering like when he's walking around? Because he's old man 1/2 of the Hammer Cowboys AP town. Do you think that was fair?
Aaron Rodgers
It's true.
Pat McAfee
It's fair. Oh, geez Louise. Nine year NFL vet. He's talking about one of your ex head coaches. This is Darius J. Butler. How do you feel about what was said about.
AQ Shipley
I don't love it.
Pat McAfee
Me neither.
AQ Shipley
Yeah, I don't like it.
Pat McAfee
Me neither.
Gumpy
Oh, what?
AJ Hawk
He's not old. Okay. Sky not blue anymore.
AQ Shipley
Chuck looks great.
Pat McAfee
Oh, he does. Chuck's been talking a lot of. He doesn't look great.
AJ Hawk
He does look great.
Pat McAfee
I don't like how cold he is all the time. Cold and old, that's what everyone's saying. No, that's not what they're saying.
AJ Hawk
Every Thursday.
Pat McAfee
No.
AJ Hawk
Cold and old Thursday.
Pat McAfee
All right. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is new and undefeated head coach for the New Orleans Saint Saints. Former special teams coordinator. Now add the slash. Ladies and gentlemen, coach Darren Rizz. How you doing, man?
Darren Rizzi
Awesome, guys. How you doing, dude?
Pat McAfee
Not as good as you. Head coach in the NFL. You're undefeated now. You need to go to the right. Yep, there it Is there it is. Hey, and I think we. Boom. And we're in. Hey, that was on us, not on you. Obviously, we will take the blame for that. But let's chit chat about here. You being a head coach in the NFL, obviously, friend of the program. We've gotten a chance to chat with you whenever you decided to kind of take on the leadership of special teams coordinators around the NFL to figure out the kickoff answer. The way you talked about it, I think we all loved you. Fell in love with your energy, fell in love with the way you do things. Feels like your team feels the same exact way about you. You're now interim head coach. How much have you been able to change and how has your life changed over the last week or so with the boys?
Darren Rizzi
Yeah, definitely. Definitely a little crazy week, to say the least. No doubt about that. I think you know me well enough to know that my, my personality is not going to change much. Right. I would say this. You know, when you're in the middle of the season, you guys know this, there's only so much you can do. But I did think it was important for the building, the players, the coaches. You know, we came back on that on last Wednesday. I wanted, I wanted to just look and feel a little bit different, you know, I add my own little touch to it, you know, if you will. So I know you guys have heard about the locker room changes and the schedule changes, practice schedule. You know, I had said to the guys, you know, our, our last home game, not this one against, against the Falcons, but the one previous to that, you know, I didn't feel that Super Dome energy, not from the fans, I'm talking about from the players, kind of. And I want to get that back. And so, you know, the passion, the energy, all that stuff was, was the big theme last week. And, and, you know, I really haven't had a chance to kind of soak it all in, just kind of, you know, you know, the deal. We're in the middle of it. We're in the middle of the season, so just made those changes. The guys all bought in, the leadership bought in. And. And here we are. So we're going into week two and we got to duplicate the same thing.
Pat McAfee
Okay, well, how about this? Let's take it in for a moment. Congrats, man. Not easy to do that, especially when it's real loud and everything else that's going on. Division opponents playing very well. The Atlanta Falcons, obviously going to be difficult. Difficult. Some people in here actually didn't think you Guys were going to be able to do it. Some people said that. Some people right over there didn't think you had the opportunity. I assume he wasn't the only one in the world didn't think you guys had a chance. But the team looked different, it felt different. Derek Carr talked about how we got asked the most amount of plays I think I've ever had in a practice. And then we heard you come out and talk about this activation mode. And I know, you know, there's only 32 head coaching jobs in the league at the top. Everybody has thought though about what a team would look like or how a practice would go if they were the head coach though. Is that implementing those things? Is that what that was? What we heard from Derek and what we heard from you about the activation period, is this kind of what you thought a team would look like if you were the head coach or how are you making these decisions and kind of choosing what to change the little things you can in the middle of a season?
Darren Rizzi
Sure. You know, I think, listen, I think when you work for a lot of people, a couple different organizations along the way, I've interviewed for head coach and Joseph Job a couple different times. And so, you know, I always put a plan together. There's always some ideas that, that you think, hey man, when I get a chance to take over, I want to do this. I think this is the right formula. I felt like it was the right time, right place and. But again, none of that's possible. And you guys know this. None of that's possible. That's. The players buy into it. And so, you know, I met with the leadership group quickly. All those guys, you know, Alvin, Cam, demario, Derek Taste some, you know, all that leadership guys, Eric McCoy, the captains and, and went through all kind of the things I was thinking and they were like, coach, we're in, man, we're in. And you know, the activation, the way we were going to run the practice was kind of high tempo, high volume, number of plays. Maybe not as intense post snap, but, but really intense pre snap game, leg off the sideline, 42nd clock. And you know, I'm sure everybody was a little bit, you know, apprehensive in the beginning, especially Derek work. Right. But man, after, after practice, number one, they were like, that was awesome. That was awesome. That, that's, you know, and that was really great to hear. And then, you know, and then we kind of just, you know, rolled with it all week and you know, said that they felt like, you know, they were just super prepared for the game, both mentally and physically. And, you know, I, I was really talking to the lineman all week, to be honest with you, the offensive defensive lineman, like, hey, what do you think? What do you, you know, how do you feel? And because those are the guys that, you know, sometimes when you change up the practice schedule, they can affect them the most, especially middle of the season. And they were like, coach, man, we feel great. And then the offensive defensive lineman really going into the game where the guys were like, man, we are ready to go and set the tempo. And that was, that was pretty cool.
Pat McAfee
It's smart to get the O line, D line on your side too, because if they're bitching, everybody's bitching. Oh, yeah, you know that, that's, as a smart play for a guy that's been around a long time. I love the way you've gone about doing what you do.
Gumpy
Go ahead, AJ Coach, I know you've, you've been a head coach at the college ranks, but what was it like being a head coach in NFL sideline, like on game day? Was it what you expected? Was there any little things that came up here there, like, what is your, after the game? Have you been able to sit down and feel like, okay, what do I need to do next week so we can continue this?
Darren Rizzi
Yeah, listen, definitely different being on the sideline for college and be on the sideline, NFL games. What I try to tell myself going into the game was, man, you gotta, here I am preaching accountability and, and staying the moment. And I was like, hey, you got to listen to yourself here. And so just try to stay in the moment during the game, the situations. And that was easy for me because I've really been doing the game management stuff for the better part of 10 years with, you know, with the head coaches. And so, you know, all the challenges. And of course, right away we have a challenge that comes up.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darren Rizzi
And then, you know, the time, the timeouts and all that stuff. So I said to myself, you can't get wrapped up in, in the whole week. You just got to, you know, take these three hours and treat it like any other game. You know, certainly there's going to be, it's going to be my call. I don't have to ask anybody if, if we're going to take a time out or do anything like that. I just, but at the same time, I, I, I, I'm like, man, you know, you got to make sure your process stays the same. You guys have probably heard this. You know, I talked to Bill Parcels, I talked To Dan Camp Gamble. I talked to Todd Bowles during the week, and all those guys were like, riz, man, just. Just be Riz. Be yourself. Don't be different. You know, don't be one of those guys that gets in the head coaching, you know, seat and all sudden changes his ways, you know, don't be that guy. And Because. Because the players will see right through it.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Darren Rizzi
You know what? That's. Yeah. Yep. So, man, just be yourself. And then. And. But, man, it was. It was awesome. The Superdome was. Was phenomenal. The fans were great.
Pat McAfee
Great.
Darren Rizzi
They were into it. And we gave him a little bit something to cheer about early on, so we kind of got them going a little bit. Really cool.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Getting the home crowd involved early is. Should be playing. You know, that should be a part of it. Like, hey, if this is a added weapon for us, this Superdome, which I appreciate how much you respected, it's like, hey, we need a little bit more. We're playing in the Superdome. Like, this is an honor. Like, I like that that is how you viewed it and pitch it to your team. And I like that your team bought in, you know, Like, I think that is a big deal. You can. You know that people say you lost locker room or whatever. When a substitute teacher comes in, wherever the case is, there's some people that are like, ah, yeah, but he's been around. They know him. Special teams coordinator, too. Come on. Hell yeah. Proud of you, Riz. Proud of you, Riz. Legit now. There was a situation there at the end of the game. D but's got a question.
AQ Shipley
Hey, Coach Riz, you're pretty jacked up after your first win. Rightfully so. We saw. Obviously, we saw on the cameras you got a little banged up here. So what are you on in injury report? Off the injury report. Will you be joining the activation periods going forward? Maybe get a little lathered up. How you feeling going forward?
Darren Rizzi
Oh, man. Yeah, I'm definitely limited for sure. There's no doubt. I'm not full go. No, man, listen. Those guys were. Those guys were fired up at the end, and. And, you know, I. I think you guys probably heard the story. You know, we said, Chase. Chase gets his sack there to sack.
Pat McAfee
Fumble.
Darren Rizzi
And they lose a bunch of yards.
Pat McAfee
And.
Darren Rizzi
And Peyton Turner started spraying his water bottle. I'm like, man, the game's not over. I'm like, stay locked in. 30 more seconds. You know, we got a couple more plays here, and I'm ripping his ass. So when the game is over, you Know here's his chance, he's going to come right back at me. And. And the guys got fired up and then when I wasn't looking, he got me and man, my, my literally my entire left arm went completely numb. I mean it was like. Yeah, it was. It felt like an elephant trunk. I mean, I was like, are you kidding me? So then, so then I'm leaning on Peyton and he's like looking at me, he's like, coach, you all right? He's like, you thought I was having a heart attack or something?
Pat McAfee
This is on you. I'm fine.
Darren Rizzi
I'm like, you just completely. I got a stinger down my left field. He's like, coach, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm like, n. We won. Don't worry about it. I'll take it. Oh, good. Take one for the team and. But yeah, so that's what happened. So I look like a complete non at the end of the game for sure. I got a couple good shots in there and then all of a sudden he buckled me. But it's like the old.
Gumpy
From behind.
Pat McAfee
Night.
AQ Shipley
Live you learn.
Pat McAfee
Hey, hey, that's. Hey, we win. We just won a game, baby. We just won a game, baby. Gotta enjoy the hell out of.
Darren Rizzi
If I had to. If I had to sign up for it, if I had to sign up for it every time, I would do it all over again. Take the hit.
Pat McAfee
Okay, okay, so that's after the game. Let's go to before the game. Ty has a question for you.
Darius Butler
Yeah, coach, I think everyone appreciated how you made no bones about it. Like, listen, I got to the stadium, I've never used the coaches locker room before. I take a shit and I clogged the toilet. So you can imagine how I think the day is going to go after that. So this is a two part question. A. I mean, we're talking the Superdome here. Those are industrial pipes. What did you, what did you eat the night before that made you clog the toilet? And have you considered now going forward, you don't have a choice after, you got to take massive nukes before the game and clog the toilet every single week.
Darren Rizzi
Oh, man. So. So here I am and. And I'm in there obviously by myself, right? So I'm like, are you kidding me? This is really happening right now. So I, I got up and I'm like, you know what? If we win this game, I'm telling everyone this story. Because you know what? There's not a person out there that hasn't done that before, right? Everyone can relate. Come on now.
Pat McAfee
Ty did it here.
Darren Rizzi
Doesn't matter. Yeah, right. But. But it wasn't. It wasn't even that. It's just like the toilet wasn't going down. I was like, are you serious? Like, this is really how my day's gonna. Oh, man. So, yeah, I'm like, I gotta share this. And if we lost, no one would have ever known. But I'm like, you know what?
Gumpy
I'm.
Darren Rizzi
I'm gonna share this with everybody. No, I didn't get the plunger.
Pat McAfee
Pat, come on. Okay, I. I didn't know. I didn't know what all happened. You. You rolled up. You rolled up your arm in there.
Gumpy
Did you like jj?
Darren Rizzi
And I mean, you would. And you would think, my brother was a plumber. My brother was a plumber. So you would think I would take care. I could be able to take care of myself. But now here I am.
Pat McAfee
Mario Rizzi. I love everything about that. Just the thought of that, I mean, that is. That is wonderful. What a. What a. What a memorable first win. First of many. Yeah, first. First of many. Go ahead, A.J.
Gumpy
I mean, it's tough coming back from that. You might have to start every game like that. That's the crazy thing about it.
Pat McAfee
Ty.
Gumpy
I didn't think about that now, though. You know, people get superstitious. I know it's a baseball thing more than. Than football, but how do you. With everything we said, like, how do you continue your message? How do you continue to, I guess, bring this much juice? I know you're going to be you, but how do you continue for your message to get across and evolve and really, you know, as your team, you grow as the season goes with you as the head coach.
Darren Rizzi
Yeah, I think that's actually going to be in the locker method of game. I said the team. I think that's going to be our biggest challenge. Like, you know, a lot of times it's easy to get on board with something that's new and fresh and exciting and, you know, we press the restart button, all that, it's. In order to duplicate that and duplicate that effort, duplicate that energy. Listen, I'm going to bring it every day. You know, the leadership of the team is going to be the most important thing. I'm going to challenge those guys this week. Let's. Let's have a better practice week. There's plenty of stuff, you know, from the game that we got to get better. The team know we didn't actually execute. We certainly weren't perfect. There's. There's stuff we got to get better at. So let's make that the focus this week. Let's keep the same energy, let's keep the same juice, let's make the corrections. But at the end of the day, we won that game this past week because we were prepared and we made plays when we needed to. I mean, you know, the Honey Badger interception, the Chase Young strip sack, the block field goal by Ridgeway way. I mean, we made big plays in the game. That was a big, big deal. So I felt like, depression. The week is, you know, again, we brought the juice, we brought the energy. The Superdome was awesome. And so let's. Let's use that same formula and let's not. Let's not take a step back. So that. That's going to be really the messaging this week.
Pat McAfee
We'll be wild to watch it because there's a lot of talent, obviously on the team. Incredible amount of talent for whatever reason. Wasn't going the way it should be. Coach Riz comes in, you know, so let's go. Starts. You know the Rizzler, obviously. You know the Rizzler.
Darren Rizzi
Yeah. Listen, we gotta get the Rizzler to a game over here. I gotta get. Can you put me in touch with the Rizzler?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you do. We don't know the Rizzler. We only. We know of the Rizzler, obviously.
AJ Hawk
Panthers.
Pat McAfee
I think we all do, so. Yeah. Yeah, hopefully. Yeah, hopefully it'll. We. We need. Give him a headset. Give him a headset, too.
Darren Rizzi
We need somebody. Hey. Somebody told. Somebody told me I look like an older version of the Russian Rizzler. Like I can be related to it.
Pat McAfee
What a compliment. What an absolute honor for you. I mean, for. About the Rizzler maybe having a headset on.
Darius Butler
He should play three Tech.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Get him a helmet. Yeah, you're right. I think about putting him on the field. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Holy shit.
Darren Rizzi
I got another one. I got another one for you too, though, by the way. This is. This is. This is another one.
Pat McAfee
That's.
Darren Rizzi
We got to get down to the game. So you may pat. You had Livy done and schemes on right on college game, same day.
Pat McAfee
Yep.
Darren Rizzi
All right, I gotta. I got an absolute random fact here. You ready?
Pat McAfee
Yep.
Darren Rizzi
Livy Dunn and myself are from the same hometown in the great state of New Jersey.
Pat McAfee
Holy. Same exit off the.
Darren Rizzi
And we're both here in the great state of Louisiana. So I got to get living.
Pat McAfee
Paul.
Darren Rizzi
We got to get them down to the Superdome. So here's an open invitation right now. Libby Paul let's get you down to the. To the Superdome this Sunday. Yeah. And get you part of it. Get you part of the action. I mean, we had two Hillsdale, New.
Pat McAfee
Jersey, natives, oh, my gosh.
Darren Rizzi
Down here in Louisiana, and. Yeah, same exit off the parkway. You got it right. Yeah, we grew up.
Pat McAfee
That makes a lot of sense for Paul to want to go down there with Livy, too. You know, let Libby, because she's going back to lsu. She's gonna win another national champion.
AJ Hawk
Back to back.
Pat McAfee
And then Paul Skeen's obviously about to win a World Series.
AJ Hawk
With who?
Pat McAfee
He might win.
Darius Butler
He might win a Cy Young. He not going to win World Series.
Pat McAfee
He's going to win a World Series of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Okay.
AJ Hawk
That's what he's going to do.
Pat McAfee
Nonetheless, they need to get down to a sense game. We agree. Hey, Riz, we like what you're doing down there. Smart. We like what you're doing down there. Tone Diggs has a question for you. Riz.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Coach? Obviously, you got the Browns coming this week. Are you worried if it was. If the game was based off of just sheer motivation that Jamis would potentially put the boys over?
Darren Rizzi
Yeah. I mean, listen, James, obviously, you know, I got a great relationship with James. James is. We know what kind of playmaker James is. You look at what he did, you know, coming off that week when he started against the Ravens. I mean, he catapulted them. Was a little bit. No different than our deal this past week there. He kind of brought the juice, brought the energy, and so he's going to be fired up. Listen, I know. I know how James is. He's going to come into the Superdome ready to roll. And he's played here many, many times before, both as a. For the home team and the visiting team. And so he knows what that crowd is going to be like, and so we're going to. You know, that that's going to be something we got to obviously get after. And they're. And listen, I know their record hasn't been, you know, is. Is not great either, but at the same time, they got a couple guys playing really, really good football. I mean, Garrett is killing it right now. Got to have a plan for him. But, yeah, Jamis, listen, he's going to be. He's going to be juiced up. Yeah, he is. We got to bring more juice than him.
Pat McAfee
You used to. You told us that.
Darren Rizzi
You used to go do the thing on it.
Pat McAfee
No, don't eat dubs. Don't be eating dubs. You don't need to be doing that. You do exactly what you're doing. Big dumps.
Darius Butler
Yep.
Pat McAfee
And then big stingers afterwards. And then you just keep it rolling. Coach, we're incredibly pumped for you. Congratulations. We hope the boys continue to play great football for you because we obviously appreciate you as a human and a football coach. Have a good one, man. Thank you for the time you got, man.
Darren Rizzi
You guys are the best. Anytime, man. Love, love. Coming on.
Pat McAfee
We appreciate you. Ladies and gentlemen, coach Darren Rizzi.
Gumpy
Bro, that video is scary. Of his lower body going limp. He's holding himself up.
Pat McAfee
Watching that again.
Gumpy
That scared me.
Pat McAfee
So he said his entire thing just went limp.
Gumpy
But, like, he's holding himself up on a buddy like that. Oh, you know bad.
Darius Butler
It hurts.
Gumpy
Keep pushing the back when you don't know it's coming right here.
Pat McAfee
Oh, oh, oh.
AQ Shipley
Having a heart attack, Coach.
Gumpy
For real. Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
Maybe he's just trying to drive him. Maybe he was driving. Driver, see the. You see? Are you okay? Looks like he's out his trunk. Yeah.
Gumpy
Well, that's scary.
Pat McAfee
Yes. That's hilarious. Is that. All right, Go. He's a good man. This man's his first wing. How about him starting his life that day dumping into. In. Into the toilet and clogging the toilet.
Gumpy
Who unclogged it, though?
Pat McAfee
And then after the game, he ends up like that, losing all mode.
AQ Shipley
Greatest day of my life.
Pat McAfee
Come on, Con man.
Gumpy
Could have been real trouble there.
Pat McAfee
We're happy he's okay. Good team.
AQ Shipley
It's a good team. Right there.
Pat McAfee
Hold me. Hold me.
Ty Schmidt
Definitely. That's what you're saying. Don't let go.
Pat McAfee
Hey, now's not to.
Gumpy
It's like when somebody gets dinged up bad. They get dinged up. Okay. Hey, here, Stand in front of someone. Take a step.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you what, Speaking of dumps, you sit down too long, take it down. If you lose the feeling in your feet, in your legs, and you try to walk. You know, I wonder if that's what he felt like at that time.
Ty Schmidt
Skates laid onto you.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Because every once in a while, I feel like I'm gonna break my ankle when I'm walking.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Too long of a dump here. Should have got up earlier. I can't feel my legs, and I'm just kind of missed it. That look. That's what happened to him.
AJ Hawk
I mean, wobbly to say the least.
Pat McAfee
That was a super dumb paying him back from earlier.
AJ Hawk
Too good.
Pat McAfee
He took a super dump in a super dumb. Got a super win.
AQ Shipley
Oh, man.
Pat McAfee
For them I'm. I'm happy for Riz, man.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, it's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Tough spot. The interim head coach spot is a tough spot. You know, obviously, there's been incredible positive stories like AP last year wins and goes does thing. Rich Basacha, I think whenever he filled in for the Raiders win reigns, then he doesn't get a head coaching opportunity. It's like the coaches are viewing this as an opportunity to be a head coach, like, run a team, you know, like, hey, this is my opportunity. I don't know how many I'm gonna get. I don't know how. How many jobs I'm gonna have as a head coach in the NFL. But right now, interim or not, I'm getting a chance to lead a building. So, like, him changing the practice and then doing the activation thing, I'm sure there's other. He said he wanted to building the field. If he said he heard about the locker room, he heard. I did not. So as he was telling me that I was hearing about it in real time and that he didn't fully explain it. So I still don't know what all he has done to those things. I should have known that going into the interview. Obviously, that's on me. For position groups, right?
Gumpy
He put them in their position groups, I believe, because they used to have them split up because of COVID Oh, so different seats.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Remember, he. He talked about that because, like, he didn't.
Gumpy
They didn't want one quarterback to come in and in fact, like, the whole quarterback room. So I think they switched it during COVID Now he put it back to position groups is what I hurt.
AQ Shipley
Oh, I kind of like it split up.
Pat McAfee
I don't. I don't.
Gumpy
I don't know, though. It does kind of bring you together, though, if you got same. Your same position group. We were split up.
Pat McAfee
Well, yeah.
Gumpy
Green Bay was kind of random.
Pat McAfee
So first regime, me and Vinnie were right next to each other. And then second regime, I was moved to different spot. It was all kind of separated. Became friends with a couple offensive line. Lyman dang through that DB's.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. You were nice to AQ for a little, right?
Pat McAfee
AQ was next to me. Quell Jackson. Welcome to the Thunderdome. He learned first week, 6:30am Quell. That's a cool name. DQ. What's up, dude? Good to see you, man. We have a good time around here. We got a pretty good team. How do you feel about it? What do you. What's different here than maybe in Cleveland is this. Every day you're gonna do this every day. Let's have a day. We gotta be here, man. All right. I'll see you later, Dewell. Okay. Yeah. I just ran my head into somebody a thousand times. You. 6:30 in the morning, maybe. Relax. Well, have to see you too. Well, Jesus Christ. Yeah, it was good, I think, being mixed up.
AQ Shipley
I think so too. Joe. Ha. Off. Young offensive lineman. We were locker mates for a few years. Denzel. Pman. Not Perman. De. Good. I'm sorry. Big old line. Yeah. Young good.
Pat McAfee
Hold on.
AQ Shipley
Rapper now. Yep. Matt Diesel. So just, you know, bunch of, you know, random guys from different position groups that you wouldn't necessarily, you know, spend a lot of time with otherwise.
Pat McAfee
Denzel, his song popped up the other day.
AQ Shipley
Big good.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Just got home from the N. No.
AJ Hawk
You post on your IG story?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's the name of it? Come on. He was awesome. He made a banger too. Great dude. Huge. He went over the Raiders, had like a. Like a long, six, seven year career. They paid him. He was a offensive lineman. What is the name of the song?
AQ Shipley
Small school.
Pat McAfee
Now I get low and I see 12. You think you gonna catch me? You must be bold as hell.
AQ Shipley
Yeah, I'm always on my job, man.
Pat McAfee
I do my job. So that line right there, I stay pulling for my block. I gotta see my boy prevail like so many different levels like there. And I'm like. As I was listening to it, I like some idea. I'm like, hey, pretty good a song right there. That, that song is called Ballin by canon 864. It's Denzel. Good. But to your point, if his locker isn't right next to me, you know, I'm probably not getting to know him nearly as well. He was massive. Do you remember how huge this. This dude? We're talking whole body, gigantic human huge dude.
AQ Shipley
Like obviously being locker base, you know, you got shoes and cleats next to just seeing that motherfucker's big ass timberless next to me. Some size 18.
Pat McAfee
Huge human.
AQ Shipley
He had to be what, 6, 6, 6, 7, maybe 350.
Pat McAfee
Great athlete. Great athlete. I mean, I don't know how his joints survived, he was so big. Anyways, speaking of big, ah, gotta do it tomorrow. I don't have the iPad. Oh, that's on me. But it works out. It's been great on Wednesdays, you and aq Shipley doing back to back. Back to back has been awesome.
AJ Hawk
We could just run the rizzy video like 10 more times and break.
Pat McAfee
I don't think we need to do that. I don't think we need to do that at all. I don't think we need to do that at all. Is there anything that we didn't cover today that we have to talk about? NBA cup starts tonight.
AJ Hawk
Yep.
Pat McAfee
That matters.
Gumpy
So is this different than the inseason tournament?
Pat McAfee
No, no, this is it.
Gumpy
This is it. Okay.
AQ Shipley
It's early.
Gumpy
It's early, I feel.
Pat McAfee
Boys, if there's rounds to this, what.
Darius Butler
Are the games in the Emirates?
Gumpy
Wait, knockout start December 10th.
Darius Butler
The United Arab Emirates. Isn't that where the like the championships played?
Pat McAfee
They're playing in.
Gumpy
Are they?
Darius Butler
Yeah, Hobby Dobby, I think.
Pat McAfee
Are they?
Gumpy
Are they really?
Darius Butler
I believe so.
Pat McAfee
Right. That's where the NBA cup finals is.
Darius Butler
I don't know. I thought I. I do thought I read that somewhere. But maybe they just. Maybe they just played over there in the preseason.
Pat McAfee
Las Vegas, I think, is where the NBA played in Hobby D. Come on. Okay.
AJ Hawk
Happy birthday Trophy is like the Emirates cup. Maybe that's I think.
Darius Butler
And I know that they were over there before the season.
Ty Schmidt
It is a sponsor because the Emirates, they are big sponsors in the soccer world. So they get the in season tournament.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's on this graphic. They like cups in there. It is the Emirates NBA Cup. I appreciate that. You know, there's been a couple of those types of just like country name or place name sponsoring event. And it's like I appreciate the fact that people are like, hey, you have all the money literally in the world. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
What do you say?
Pat McAfee
You want to just kind of throw us. Well, just kind of.
Darius Butler
We'll do the whole sponsor the NBA Cup.
Pat McAfee
You guys can come, you can watch you do the whole thing. Put a couple shout outs in there and like. Yeah, you guys will. Yeah, we'll definitely do that. And now the NBA cup probably more profitable than anything else they got going.
AJ Hawk
No doubt.
Pat McAfee
And everybody was laughing at the NBA Cup. Remember that?
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Well, with the courts. They got the courts right this year. Most of them I've seen are awesome.
Pat McAfee
What was it called? City City. That was escape.
AJ Hawk
Oh, the city jerseys.
Pat McAfee
No, what was the. What was the name of the painting?
Gumpy
There was a name, you're right there, wasn't it?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. When they painted the wood. Right. We're talking about the new.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
What was that called, though? They didn't. They. They were trying to market it something.
AQ Shipley
Yeah, City courts.
Pat McAfee
I forget what it was.
AJ Hawk
I forget. Yeah, the Celtics is like green this year and it looks as though the like kind of the background of the green is like the streets and blocks of Boston. It looks sick.
Pat McAfee
A lot of ridicule.
AJ Hawk
A ton of ridicule.
Pat McAfee
A lot of ridicule which I didn't fully understand because this was just like the Mega Bowl. They're making a Mega bowl like I like. Anytime somebody does business like these people are in business, they're promoting now and they're creating an event for people to hopefully hold in higher regard. And I think maybe we liked it because the Pacers did so well in it too. So I got a chance to see Ty. I think he made the finals lose to the Lakers and it all. I don't think you should be hanging a banner next to a NBA title.
Darius Butler
Definitely not.
Pat McAfee
Which they did I think over there in Staples.
AJ Hawk
Yes.
Pat McAfee
For the NBA cup whenever the Lakers won it. That. That's a. We talked about this. That is a lobby banner. That is in the lobby of the arena. That is where you hang that particular banner. But it's still something that I appreciate that like it's. I like in season tournaments. I like that college ball is going to Maui. Like Dan Hurley back to back national champs or whatever. And they're like, yeah, we're going to Maui for a great tournament. In the middle of it and winning the Maui Cup. He said one of those trophies is one of the ones we're looking at. Like I like any time something is.
Gumpy
Hyped up, like I. I enjoyed something, the games mean something. And then we're. We eventually get to elimination games. Like anytime you're playing elimination games, I think it's great.
Pat McAfee
But people do not take it seriously yet. Last year.
AJ Hawk
No, no. You know, aside from players.
Gumpy
Do players want that cash?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Because there's one extra 500000 bonus to everybody on the bench. Yeah.
AQ Shipley
Oh yeah. That was another awesome part. Like the big time players, you know, still being excited for the other guys getting those, you know, big checks and like that LeBron. I remember celebrating like yeah, that. I mean anything new, people's gonna make kind of Mickey Mouse.
Pat McAfee
Those NBA Twitter is a fantastic place. Yeah. So you toss a fake cup in there, whole body.
AJ Hawk
Let them run the banner too. Is like one banner. And then it's like if they were to win it this year, they wouldn't add another banner. They just put 20, 25 on it.
Pat McAfee
So it's need to put it in a lobby. Yeah. Maybe every arena has a lobby. Just go ahead and lobby banners are just fine.
AJ Hawk
A rug.
Pat McAfee
Rug you'd be stepping on. I don't know if anybody wants that.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, but that'd be cool.
Pat McAfee
I'm just saying, if they feel the need to hang a banner, a cup, stack those lobbies up. Yeah. Look at me. Beginning middle season. Cups, cups.
AJ Hawk
We dominate them.
Pat McAfee
Pacer's gonna win the NBA cup this year. Probably. I can already feel it.
AJ Hawk
Congrats.
Pat McAfee
Tyrese Haliburton went for 35 the other day, Ma for 38. Tyrese Haliburton's at the Butler basketball game watching the fundamentals of college hoops. He's already conversating with Caitlin Clark and in the off times about how to. How to do different shit to Caitlin. I mean, Pacers are on the wear up. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Pacers will hang a banner, I guarantee.
Pat McAfee
You that, in the lobby.
AJ Hawk
No, they won't.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we win the NBA cup, we'll put that right up in the lobby.
AJ Hawk
That thing will be over center court.
Pat McAfee
It'll be right there in the lobby.
Ty Schmidt
They might put it on the floor. Like a picture of it on the floor.
Pat McAfee
Maybe like Walp man of the Year. They could build a statue downtown.
AJ Hawk
That'd be cool.
Pat McAfee
Maybe. Maybe a statue. Maybe get an extra one and put in Lucas Oil. I'm okay.
Gumpy
The one all leg next to the all leg. The one, the.
Pat McAfee
The legs.
Gumpy
And his knees in front of the legs. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Well, the knee bones connected to the shin bone, you see, and then the shin bones connected to the foot bone, which is on the ground, which is where John Wooden was coaching. That's right. So that's all he was really around was just bunch of shins and knees. A lot of other people saying there's other stuff there, too, that you just can't see.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Penises, right. That's what they're saying.
Aaron Rodgers
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Do you know that, A.J.
Gumpy
I didn't know that's where you're going.
Pat McAfee
With that, but yeah, I think it's what a lot of people were saying. John Wooden's motivating boys. He'd get those statues, play good defense if he had to.
AJ Hawk
No doubt.
Pat McAfee
Wooden football, basketball. Did you know. Did you know that the LSU students chanted that?
Gumpy
Did you know that their whole, yeah, tiger, thick situation.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's not thick.
Gumpy
Not until. Not until you really put it in the forefront. I was not super aware.
Pat McAfee
I thought people deserved to know that. Like, hey, this is happening.
Gumpy
I agree. I think it's good that you.
Pat McAfee
You should.
Gumpy
You, you know, you shine light on that. We needed to.
Pat McAfee
I'm assuming there's a lot of people pissed off about that, but, like, I didn't create.
Darius Butler
You didn't do it.
Gumpy
Pretty awesome. Pretty awesome when you think about it.
Pat McAfee
They're all in. All the. Yeah, I saw, I saw a little five, four year olds and then obviously older folks saying it and it's like, I don't think everybody in Louisiana loves that it's happening, you know, but not everybody loved that there was going to be a live tiger on the sideline in Louisiana. And Governor Jeff Landry has commented about the situation. He has come out with a quote on three, has reported and obviously there's a lot of good college football sites that cover a lot of things. On three is certainly one of them. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry blasted LSU for its lost Alabama and defended his live tiger stunt. Our tiger, our live tiger, unfortunately, disappointingly, was the only tiger who showed up Saturday.
AQ Shipley
Jeez.
AJ Hawk
I mean, yeah, that's a bar.
Ty Schmidt
That is well done.
Pat McAfee
People are wondering why I was saying Governor Jeff Landry wanted this tiger so much on college game day. It's cuz I learned a pretty good amount about Governor J. Flandry in Friday night dinner. And this guy needs to be learned about this dude. This dude is wide open down here now. He, he has his supporters, no doubt, and he represents his constituents, but he also has his feelings about what LSU games should look like and feel like and just getting a chance to be there, a part of the whole first time since 2015. Live Tiger and then allegedly, you know, like university. We're okay without one, you know, without a live tiger. We got one right outside here in the sanctuary. We got this figured out. Good air conditioning on rocks. We got the whole thing able to do this. It's a sanctuary, allegedly. You know, I'm not saying everybody at LSU that is part of there. What would that be? Front office, not the front off. The people that run the school board of regents, whatever. That whole thing. Not, maybe not 100% of them, but I guess there was a pretty overwhelming of we're okay. And then there were some other, you know, pioneers or powerful voices in Louisiana, Louisiana saying it's okay, it's okay if we don't. Governor Jeff Landry said, I don't give.
Darius Butler
A get on sideline.
Pat McAfee
I want a tiger on that sideline. I think when I was a boy, it was one of my favorite memories whenever I heard that thing roar. Exactly. And then now we don't have one. Why is that?
Ty Schmidt
Why don't we have Bevo could be at Texas if UGA could be at Georgia. Why Not a lot.
Pat McAfee
I think Governor Jeff Langer was saying the same thing.
AQ Shipley
It was the it was the execution. I'm with Tone. The idea he had yesterday was brilliant.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AQ Shipley
Like you gotta have. Gladiator 2 is about to come out. You gotta have him out of the cave cage, change to the ground.
Pat McAfee
Well, I think Governor Jeff Landry, I assume, had to concede some things for that cage. I think he was potentially coming out on top of that, riding that. Riding that thing out there.
Ty Schmidt
You can have a glass cage or a glass habitat on the field, just like they do for Bevo, because you're gonna have to have a ceiling wall so the tiger doesn't get out. I agree with that. But you can't see the tiger in the. In that case.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Unless they had the light on.
Ty Schmidt
You need to get eyes on it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So the tiger was there. Did show up. Up. But I don't. I don't know if it was seen by the entire.
AQ Shipley
Only tiger to show up.
Pat McAfee
They spent $19.8 million on that stadium renovation. And Governor Jeff Landry is asking, why don't we put the sanctuary inside? $19.8 million.
Ty Schmidt
That'd be so room in any of the end zones. Or silence.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I'm sure Governor Deflanger could find some shots.
Gumpy
Time up to the goal post. Time up to the goal post for a little while.
Pat McAfee
If that's.
Gumpy
That's more humane than a cave cage. Much more humane than a cage.
Pat McAfee
We're not gonna get rid of the cage right now. We are.
Gumpy
Yeah, but I'm saying time around the goalpost with those retractable dog leashes that people walk around with their golden retriever. Drag them through the streets. Just put one of those on them.
Pat McAfee
Okay? Yeah. And people refuse to hit that button.
Gumpy
A commercial. Commercial version, though. That's much stronger.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but you're talking. They need to hit the button a little earlier.
Gumpy
Those things are stupid, by the way.
AJ Hawk
They need to put the sanctuary on top of the Jumbotron and then just have that thing up there. And now before the game starts, they.
Ty Schmidt
All, like, see what was back.
AJ Hawk
They all like, what's that?
Pat McAfee
I saw the Carolina Panther.
Ty Schmidt
Bingo.
Darius Butler
In Germany.
Ty Schmidt
And they won.
Pat McAfee
And he was buying beers for everybody.
Ty Schmidt
Anytime that a tiger is jumping around or. Sorry, Panther. Excuse me.
Pat McAfee
Isn't it.
Ty Schmidt
Isn't college football they're going to win.
Pat McAfee
Isn't. This is pretty. I think they lost last time it was out. Maybe.
Ty Schmidt
I don't think so.
AQ Shipley
No way.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I mean, it's crazy. That panther is on Vision video there.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Germans were so scared.
Pat McAfee
That was crazy. Did you see that, aj let's Run around the stadium over here.
Gumpy
That's my first time actually seeing that.
Ty Schmidt
That's not true.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. The thing about that panther, it's not a real panther. Right there. That is a.
Gumpy
No, Come on now.
Ty Schmidt
I think.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's actually roaring right there. Do, do, do. That's what that panther was saying. That's what it did there. I don't know if you heard about that. That was what that panther did. People thought it was real. It's not real.
Darius Butler
It's not real.
Pat McAfee
It's not real panther. Oh, millions of dollars.
Gumpy
Jeff Landry. Governor Jeff Landry, though, did he know that the tiger that lives in the habitat was not ready to go into the stadium and they had to find another one?
Pat McAfee
Yep. I do believe he did not.
AJ Hawk
Months ago, actually.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. There was some time from what we learned.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
We know why.
Gumpy
Why couldn't we put old number six? Why couldn't we put just. If he's going in a cage, why isn't he ready to go?
Pat McAfee
That would have been inhumane. That would. What's that?
AJ Hawk
His name is Mike.
Pat McAfee
Mike. Mike the seventh is the one that lives outside. I believe that would have been considered in inhumane mal practice because that never had to be in front of a crowd before, so. Oh, okay.
Gumpy
Gotcha.
Pat McAfee
So the crowd is obviously cuz cats, you know, naturally skittish. So whenever, you know, I guess this one had been in front of a crowd before. Understand. Gotcha.
Gumpy
I swiped at a few people.
Pat McAfee
That tiger was like a showman tiger. Yeah. I think they were searching for a traveling circus tiger.
AJ Hawk
Mango.
Pat McAfee
One that has been in front of people before as opposed to just in a sanctuary outside.
Gumpy
That makes sense.
Pat McAfee
That happened there. So now there has been an idea that has been tossed from the back row of the back room. It's a shame. LSU is probably not going to make it now, especially after I lost Alabama. But if LSU makes it to the College Football Playoff, will you do a show from a tiger cage? The alt cast on the sideline.
Gumpy
And is the tiger in there with us or.
Pat McAfee
No, you would just be in a cage.
AJ Hawk
You'd be the tiger.
Gumpy
Oh, that'd be sweet. Yeah, I'm up. Anything that's be like a bird cage.
Pat McAfee
You'd be like standing like a hawk. The 1990s Chevy Silverado like 15 years ago. So that was the issue we saw in 2015. The last time the tiger had been live on the LSU field. They had the Chevy Silverado pulling that thing and they were struggling. The tail end was down. Sure look like it was. You Know what they needed.
Gumpy
We know. We know.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, red there, pal. Right there. That might have been part of the whole problem. That's my people. Might have been true. We don't need a live tiger anymore because the show wasn't enough of a show. Obviously a tiger roaring is a powerful thing, but when you hear that from underneath the hood of a 2500 heavy duty rebel ram, all of a sudden you don't want that ever to go away.
Gumpy
You could. You could strap Mike into the truck bed and then drive him around. Think about it.
Pat McAfee
Drive him around.
Gumpy
He's strapping. He's not going to jump out and kill anybody. Probably, probably. But strap into the back of that truck better.
Pat McAfee
That Dodge ram, the kill thing is. Is a real fear, I think, for a lot of people.
Gumpy
Well, he'll get through a lot of people before they. Tranquil, for sure.
Pat McAfee
Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Especially with.
Gumpy
Him.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but in the crowd. How are they shooting exactly?
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah, they let us humans.
Gumpy
He might get all 75,000, Mike. 102 coming for all.
Ty Schmidt
Mike's professional.
Pat McAfee
He's not gonna be hungry that whole time. Time.
Gumpy
Well, he's not. He's just killing for fun. He's not eating.
Pat McAfee
Oh, you think. You think. Wait, was Omar was the name of the tiger that was on the sideline? You're telling me you think Omar is just known showman feline. Okay. Known show feline here. You think he was just gonna go out and just start batting faces and slice one.
Gumpy
One swipe. Oh, slight. There's. Your head's off.
Pat McAfee
Boom.
Gumpy
Slice your neck.
Pat McAfee
Boom, boom, boom.
Gumpy
Then he just gets. He gets. He sees one.
Pat McAfee
He sees one.
Gumpy
He's like, there's 100, 100, and 2,000.
Pat McAfee
Big boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
Gumpy
I don't want to see it. I don't want to see it at all.
AJ Hawk
You could do the implant and then if it gets out, just.
Pat McAfee
What's that, buddy?
Aaron Rodgers
Shut it down.
Gumpy
What do you mean?
Pat McAfee
Oh, I'll flip the switch.
Darius Butler
And his head blows up.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. That is. I don't think anybody would like that. That. I think that'd be a pretty big conversation.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, yeah. But.
Pat McAfee
But I did hear a lot of people that are animal people being like, is it really a necessity? Like, why do we.
Darius Butler
Yeah, of course not.
Ty Schmidt
Where were they when Equal was getting murdered last week?
Pat McAfee
That not a lot has been said about Peanut, huh?
Aaron Rodgers
It's true.
Pat McAfee
How come Peanut's not being talked about? He might have came back to life.
Ty Schmidt
Sorry, what?
Pat McAfee
I saw reincarnation take the Stand there in front of the press conference. Is that what you're talking about, Gumps? Yep. Running around, having a great time.
AJ Hawk
Speaking of. Of last week, we did. We did miss something.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, we did.
Ty Schmidt
My apologies.
Pat McAfee
We didn't have a show on Sunday, so I didn't get to bring it up. I forgot yesterday. That's on me. Happy birthday. Acho. That's right. Happy birthday.
AJ Hawk
Happy birthday, Emanuel.
Ty Schmidt
We know. These are tough.
AQ Shipley
Happy birthday.
Pat McAfee
I would like to say this Happy birthday to him. And reading his birthday post made me feel like the biggest piece of. Of all time. I never.
Gumpy
Why?
Pat McAfee
What do you mean? Did you read it?
Gumpy
I don't know if I did.
Pat McAfee
I made a glance, read it, and just know. You're a terrible guy. Let us know if you're doing enough. AJ he said he cries on his birthday because he hasn't done enough good for society. That's what he. He thinks about on his birthday. I'm like, God damn. We think differently. We either. We were such a different thinking. I'm like, man made another year pre pumped up. Which he did say y. Thankful to be. Which is cool. I'm. I'm, like, pretty excited about it, but I need. We need to start viewing it differently, and we need to start thinking like a man. Oh.
Gumpy
He said, like, I haven't done enough. That's why he cries.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Wow. I know. That's what I'm saying. I'm like, holy.
Ty Schmidt
I'm going to start doing that every year on my birthday, too.
Pat McAfee
Me too. Let's all do it, and then I am for sure. I might start with it. He ended with it. I'll probably start mine with Happy birthday to me. Okay, so Guppy's not being serious. I am. Obviously. Sounds like Gumpy's.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, is that like.
Pat McAfee
You're not going to tweet Happy birthday of me? No, I think I am.
Ty Schmidt
I think I'm learning from Archer.
Gumpy
You have to.
Pat McAfee
I have to. I do think we should maybe. I mean, not too often because it can bum me out. Maybe. Maybe once a year. Like it's on your birthday, I think. How could you be better for society every trip? How can we make the world a better place? Oh, boy. How can we make tomorrow better than today while knowing that tomorrow's not a guarantee? That'll fucking smack you right in the mouth. Sometimes perspective is a crazy thing. We're not supposed to be here. Have you learned about how we got here? The whole semen thing? That's wild. Gary Vee will break down for you. Mm. We need here.
Ty Schmidt
And also on your birthday, make sure you accept the results of that year. Or at least try to accept the results that year. And then once you think about it.
AQ Shipley
For a few days.
Pat McAfee
Okay, I can. All right. Everybody needs.
Gumpy
What's this about?
Ty Schmidt
And if you buy a house, make.
AQ Shipley
Sure you show the whole house.
Pat McAfee
All right.
Darius Butler
You guys are making a mockery, though.
Pat McAfee
I'm saying let's just be better people. Trying to do. Let's be better people. Let's be better people. Okay. And let's enjoy this life because we have no idea what's gonna happen. We might all be dead. Yeah. Might all be dead tomorrow. I do enjoy every day.
Gumpy
I agree with that.
Pat McAfee
We have no idea. Let's enjoy it all. All right. I gotta go to a dentist. I'm gonna hate it. I just said that whole thing. Maybe it was a motivational to myself.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. It'll make you better.
Pat McAfee
It will make it.
AJ Hawk
Got to do it.
Pat McAfee
I had a. I had a thing. Cap, I guess, on my tooth crown. Crown. There it is.
Gumpy
Came out.
Pat McAfee
It snapped off at some point. I don't know when. Maybe you got to get root canal. I'm. I don't even know if that's. I don't know.
Gumpy
They're not that bad. Don't worry. They're not that bad.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. I.
AJ Hawk
Okay.
Pat McAfee
I just thought. Stop hurting. I thought it was just going to stop hurting. So it's been like four weeks with not being able to drink, like, cold water, hot stuff, or.
Gumpy
Oh, yeah, it's. That's tough.
AJ Hawk
Cold beer on Friday night.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Can't have one. That's a shame. I haven't been able to have any of that chicken fr. Haven't been able to have any of it because. Just been having to eat out of. What. But I thought the nerve would stop hurting, like, hey, enough. Knock it off.
Gumpy
I thought that for a couple years. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's not. It's getting worse. Worse. It's getting worse.
Gumpy
It does.
Pat McAfee
And then I look.
Gumpy
Get it taken care of. Get it taken care of. It's worth it.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. 100.
Pat McAfee
Well, I went and looked at it, so I looked at it for the first time, like I didn't want to see it. I don't want to know. Boy, it's very clearly up. Is it?
Gumpy
Yeah.
AQ Shipley
Yeah.
Gumpy
That happened to me. And they had to just rip. They did pull. Rip the tooth out that day that the cap ripped off from a earlier situation that I had crushed.
Darius Butler
I don't think you're there yet if it's Only been like a few weeks. I mean, this guy just said, like.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Yeah.
Darius Butler
I spent three years thinking it would go.
Pat McAfee
If they say. If they say a root canal.
Ty Schmidt
If you're not down any teeth yet.
Pat McAfee
Just get rid of it.
AJ Hawk
I agree. I think getting the teeth yanked is not as bad.
Pat McAfee
As long as you're not down any. I'm down two or three. I'm at.
Ty Schmidt
I got to get root canals.
Pat McAfee
But if you're not down. I don't want it. Get it out. Yeah, get it out. Because if you get a root canal.
Ty Schmidt
You'Re just going to have to keep going back forever.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I'm not doing that. I'm not a suck.
AQ Shipley
No. You know, get a root canal. Save it.
Pat McAfee
If you can stop, get out. It's in the back. It's been annoying. I've been able.
AJ Hawk
You sound like a dentist.
AQ Shipley
You save too. If you. If you can.
Pat McAfee
You got great smile, D. But you got great smile out.
AQ Shipley
I mean, the back.
Darius Butler
Say it.
Pat McAfee
Just get rid of all of them.
AQ Shipley
Need them.
Pat McAfee
Awesome. The back ones. Yeah. But I got another side. I've been working with it for a while.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Plus, we're talking about smiles. Go ahead, smile. Ah, yeah. We can't see the one that they're going to.
Pat McAfee
If you can't see it, get rid of it. You get a fake one later. Bingo.
AJ Hawk
A gold one.
Pat McAfee
Walking in there saying, take it out. I know when you're the fake one.
Gumpy
Means they got a fake one. They have to drill. Put a drill down.
Pat McAfee
I'm not doing it. If you're not down and you just get it yanked. I am.
Ty Schmidt
You can spare one.
Pat McAfee
That's what I'm.
Gumpy
Just keep yanking a couple teeth a year. That'll be cool.
Pat McAfee
A couple teeth. My first time. Now, granted, it can't happen again because I will. Kidding.
Ty Schmidt
Steak it anymore.
Gumpy
You're gonna wear that other side out, though. If you yank that one, you wear the other side out.
Pat McAfee
This side's been holding up just fine for the last month.
Gumpy
I know. Yeah, it is.
Pat McAfee
I don't. Like every once in a while, though, something would just permeate its way over there.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
I would think. I have it completely trapped. A sanctuary, if you will, with my. And then all of a sudden, it sneaks in the back door. The cold is the worst. Yeah. Yeah.
Gumpy
You breathe in. It hits it too. Sometimes if you breathe, you want the actual worse.
Pat McAfee
I think in everybody might experience it differently. But this is my first time going through something like this, so this is a wild scene for me. But like if it's something that's like kind of a dud of a bite, like a crust of something.
Darius Butler
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Or like, like a gummy or something like that. If it's like a dud, whenever you bite down on it. Boy, that one has really caused me some real hours of sleep. I want to. This thing has kept me up at night. I mean it has been a full on.
AJ Hawk
It's no joke.
Pat McAfee
I just took an ibuprofen yesterday for the first time for it. I didn't even think that that would work, but it did. I totally go there. Should have been doing that for weeks. Would not be.
Darius Butler
Sure enough it did.
Pat McAfee
Sure enough it went right through it. I mean, why haven't I been doing that for weeks? Why haven't I been doing that for weeks now? You know, What a idiot. I was so mad when it was like the pain went away completely. I was like this could have been my life for the last four weeks.
Darius Butler
Holy.
Pat McAfee
What a idiot. Of course it works. That's because you talk to it.
AJ Hawk
And now you fix it today.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think I might just take ibuprofen when I get there. When push comes to shelf. I don't know if they're gonna be able to get me on that seat. I don't know.
Darius Butler
Give me the laughing gas.
Pat McAfee
They do need to gas the out of.
AJ Hawk
It'll be fun.
Pat McAfee
That's quick. If they're just pulling it out, right? I gotta go down there, put me on a thing, do the thing. Get me out of the thing to pull it.
AJ Hawk
10 minutes.
Gumpy
They're not gassing you.
Pat McAfee
They're not what?
Gumpy
I don't know when they give you gas, but not for root canals. They don't give you gas. Cuz they need your mouth all the way. They need. They need to get in there.
AJ Hawk
They got. You got to ask for it.
Pat McAfee
I need to be.
Gumpy
Oh, I've asked for it. Yeah. Good luck with the root canal. They. Maybe they will.
Aaron Rodgers
I don't know.
Pat McAfee
I'm not doing a root. We already said I'm not doing a root canal. I'm pulling them out if it needs.
Gumpy
If they pull it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, good luck.
Gumpy
They pull it. They're not going to gas you.
Pat McAfee
They'll.
Gumpy
They'll jam that needle in there and numb it up for a while.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I remember that big old mask.
Gumpy
And then they go shooting up through your face. They hit a nerve and all the pain, it shoots up to your face.
Pat McAfee
I've had it all.
Gumpy
You know, I got. I got all the fake ones now, but I had do you remember when.
Pat McAfee
AJ was on and he Water falling out of his mouth? Nothing happened. Something happened with you. No, I was better than time.
Ty Schmidt
You got poked in the eye and you had to wear eye patch for.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah, forgot about that.
Gumpy
I got jabbed.
Pat McAfee
What you say your cor healed quicker than anybody in the history or something like that Jab.
Gumpy
It's not complete. You know, it's still pretty sensitive to light. That's for sure.
Pat McAfee
I love that. That whole thing that happened with your face and mouth. You then got your face scanned for ww, Remember?
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Gumpy
Right after. Right after it. Well, that kind of came out of nowhere for me. So.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, right in the middle. Hey, that game's awesome. Been playing it still all the time, every night.
AQ Shipley
You guys got titles or get back in a ring?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we do. Gotta get back in a ring.
AQ Shipley
I gotta get back.
Pat McAfee
This ball goes in. This Dennis thing is gonna go great.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Boom.
Ty Schmidt
Better make this one.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah.
Aaron Rodgers
Oh, yeah.
Gumpy
See, there we go. Take care.
Pat McAfee
Well, take care.
AQ Shipley
Oh, great.
AJ Hawk
There it is.
Ty Schmidt
Now a lot of people are going to question how often you really, truly focus in on these.
Pat McAfee
There's old patch.
Gumpy
That was painful. It's painful.
Pat McAfee
We couldn't even see the patch with those sunglasses on.
AJ Hawk
So it's crazy.
Pat McAfee
The reveal. Thankful you did that. Thankful you did that. All right.
Gumpy
Boy, I'm glad I got through that. Oh, man, I'm glad I went. I'm glad it happened, though. I honestly am.
Pat McAfee
It was.
Gumpy
It was a new pain I've never dealt with, so it helped.
AJ Hawk
Adversity calloused.
Pat McAfee
Not even your eyeball calloused up. That's AJ Hawk football. All right, Tua. We don't need any more tackles.
AJ Hawk
Nope.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I'm just leading.
Gumpy
Appreciate the effort, though.
Pat McAfee
Me too. Guy loves football.
Ty Schmidt
The thing with Darlington was really cool.
Pat McAfee
Was it? Yeah, it was like five minutes. All right. I'm gonna watch it. I saw it. Guy just loves. Guy just loves football. I love that.
Ty Schmidt
He's my quarterback. That's my QB one.
Pat McAfee
He's all in, man. He looked till deathy.
Darius Butler
Yeah. Cherish those moments.
Pat McAfee
Nice.
Gumpy
Come on, now.
Pat McAfee
Change. We. We've had 10 quarterbacks every day. Quarterbacks. All right. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change your life. Like our friends at Dude Wipes. All right. It's great for your cheeks. Great for your life. It's Dude Wipes. We're just sitting together. Team on mate. Team on three. That ball went in, so that's good, right? Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Great news.
Pat McAfee
Everything's going to go.
Gumpy

Pat McAfee
