Pat McAfee
People, and welcome to our humble abode, the ThunderDome. On this NFL Week 14 Thursday kickoff. You get it? December 5th, 2024. This program starts now. Football is wonderful. I cannot believe we're already at week 14. Tonight, another divisional round matchup will bring us to our TVs to watch. Prime and Kirk Herbstreet, Al Michaels, Kaylee Hartung, Carissa Thompson, Tony Gonzalez, Ryan Fitzmagic, Andrew Whitworth, Richard Sherman. You know the cre for the packers and the Detroit Lions. The Lions are currently favored by three. It was three and a half a little bit earlier today. I assume it will continue to maybe bounce around. But in this particular matchup, this is the second time they're playing each other and this is for supremacy of the NFC North. Now, obviously, the Lions are on a hell of a run this season. 11 1, only one loss. Wow. They've lost a lot of players, though. Lost a lot of players. And then the packers here and Jordan Love, second full season, really going at it. They're on a run as well. How about the Minnesota Vikings? Well, they're on a run as well. Neither of these teams can add a loss into the second column of their record. And the Detroit Lions are going to have to prove to the entire world that even though their entire defensive front seven is injured, they're going to still be able to win games. I have no idea how they'll pull it off, but this team has been powerful. This team has been dominant. This team has been resilient. This team has epitomized an MC DC football team. Does tonight change it all with Jordan Love and the packers coming to town? Jordan Love and that offense, obviously, I think we're going to see later what coach could have won the first matchup against the Detroit Lions. 36 years as a coach in football, 18 in college, 18 in the NFL. Chuck Pagano joined us. Coach, Coach. There's some plays in that game from their first matchup, Week 9, where obviously the Lions get the win there, but packers maybe should have walked out of there with a dub. I think we're going to look into that a little bit later today.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, a bunch of miscues for him easily could have won.
Pat McAfee
And whenever you talk about division rivals, you know, especially at this, they know each other right inside and out. So all these previous games do matter because that's where they're getting all the tells and everything.
Chuck Pagano
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
So the Lions are looking at the packers tape and the packers are looking at the Packers Lions tape and there's going to be carryover every Single time. Which is why these divisional games are always so competitive, seemingly.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, absolutely. And you don't want to overthink it and think, hey, because they know we know and we know they know and all that stuff. I heard Belichick go through that whole deal. Do what you do. The team that executes takes care of the program. You know, the ball doesn't give up. Explosive plays, take care of the ball. That's usually a team that's going to win in these games.
Pat McAfee
The ball is the program.
Chuck Pagano
Don't beat yourself.
Pat McAfee
And let's go to talk to the table at Ty Schmidt, obviously Packers fan. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on primetime game for Jordan. Love to showcase that he is the current and future of this Green Bay packers organization with Matt LaFleur who's going to look.
Ty Schmidt
Oh yeah, heavy radio in Detroit too.
Pat McAfee
So he doesn't have to cover it up. Yep, we're going to see shining. He's going to look good out there.
Ty Schmidt
Showcase game for him as well.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Obvious obviously, and good. Kunst and the team that he's put together being able to move on from the Aaron Rodgers era in which we all doubted a lot of decisions that were being made loudly. We did. We're wrong. They got to figure it out there. They have it as figured out as the Detroit Football Lions do. And let's go back to these Thursday night matchups. Con man, Amazon's been swinging a pretty hot bat thus far.
Con Man
Yeah, big time. And especially after the first year is like, okay, so Amazon's going to pay for these terrible, terrible games and they're going to be brutal. Last week obviously was the Thanksgiving. Thursday they had the Friday night or Friday during the day Chiefs Raiders game. But the week before that they had a banger. They had Eagles commanders, they had Ravens, Bengals which was a 35, 34 one point game. Like they have been swinging a very hot bat. Really? You go all the way back to week nine when it was Jets, Texans and even then that was kind of the jets comeback. Hey, the Rogers, they beat the Texans. Devonte touchdown. You know Garrett Wilson had that insane one handed catch in the back.
Pat McAfee
Thursday nights have been awesome.
Con Man
They have been incredible.
Pat McAfee
Some of them have started very slowly. Sure. So I think people kind of check out because it's work night Thursday night. I assume numbers are big for like first half and if people are turning off their TVs and falling asleep. Okay. But I think there's a lot of people, myself included for a lot of these Thursday night games middle early, like maybe 33% into the season. Okay. Because we're, you know, going into week 14, we're back at, we're in the final quarter now.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Con Man
It's crazy.
Pat McAfee
Congrats to us. It's flown by like this, but I've fallen asleep maybe at halftime or like first drive of third quarter. Yeah. Then I wake up the next day and I see the score. I'm like, what the hell happened? These games have gotten very good late on Thursday night. And I think it's because, and Chuck, correct me if I'm wrong, Thursday night is pretty basic. Right. We're doing our shit. We're not adding new shit for a Thursday night game. It's a short week.
Chuck Pagano
Short week.
Pat McAfee
We are doing our stuff how we're doing.
Chuck Pagano
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
So the other team's going to get a pretty good grasp of what you're doing after the first half because it's not like you're putting in two, three game plans. Like maybe if you have 10 day before a game or seven to a full week before a game. So it's like maybe people are getting used to each other and they're starting to figure some things out throughout the game. Maybe there is strategy and schematics that come into play in these second half of these games, but Thursday night has not been able to be one where you fall asleep and you don't regret it. I've been regretting whenever I pass out during these games. Tonight should be spectacular. How do you feel about your Green Bay packers team? Dogs, obviously against the Detroit Lions. Welcome to the modern world. The brand new Lions, even with all the injuries they have, they're still favored by three against your Green Bay packers team. How do you feel about it, Ty?
Ty Schmidt
Pretty good. I mean, I think the, the road team has won like the last five games in this matchup, so it kind of has been, I mean this Jordan loves kind of ascension to like the. Okay, they need to pay this guy. He is. The guy was last year on Thanksgiving against the Lions when Packers were, they weren't really in a tailspin, but it was like this team is kind of like it's going to, it's going to take a couple years for them to figure it out. Then they come out and they didn't beat the doors off the lines, but they played very, very well. Beat them on Thanksgiving in Detroit and it was kind of, you know, he, he, he ascended from, from that point on. It's kind of weird because I don't want to say it's a lose, lose for the Packers. Because this game is like, must win. I heard well, must win in the sense. I do agree that like the packers need to win this game because if they go out and they get beat by the Lions, who, like you said, their front sevens decimated, like, if they can't beat them in those conditions, then you're probably not competing to win a Super bowl this year anyways. Yeah, exactly. So like if. Now granted, if you beat them, then sure, the Lions are down a bunch of guys, but they can't do anything about that. So in that sense, I do think it is a must win. Again, the Packers, I think they're playing their best football of the Jordan Love era so far right now. Like the last three weeks, it hasn't just been the offense, their defense has been unbelievable. And although it's a Thursday night game, I don't know how much this changes things, but both these teams played on Thanksgiving, so they've had a full week of preparation. The packers, this is their third game in 12 days. So I worry about that a little bit just because, you know, who knows? But. But yeah, I mean, I, I feel very good about the packers going into the Detroit tonight, but it's one of those things where like, prove it. Prove that, you know, everyone's talking about them right now like, hey, this could be a team that's, that's dangerous and that you don't want to see in the playoffs. Like, the Lions have been the best team in the NFL this year and they're banged up right now. They're maybe a little bit vulnerable. So, like go out and prove that you are one of those teams that's going to be dangerous in the playoffs.
Pat McAfee
I feel like Jordan Love and primetime is good, right?
Ty Schmidt
Yes.
Pat McAfee
I feel like Jordan Love likes the lights and not that he doesn't any other time, but there is never a question on whether he's going to have something sick. He's going to do something filthy. Right. Jordan Love is going to do something running. He's going to have a showcase game, but there is a chance he turns the ball over. I mean, that is something that happens. I think that is just accepted. With the way Jordan Love plays football, with the way this offense goes. It's got a lot of moxie, a lot of pizzazz. Love the way he plays. Teammates love the way he plays. Now speaking of that, Lions front seven being decimated. Remember they lose Aidan Hutchinson, who was on track just like every year basically for a defensive player of the year or whatever, maybe even mvp, you know, depending upon how the Season goes, he gets hurt. So I got this from NFL plus Premiums, NFL Pro inside here. The Lions have blitzed at the second highest rate, basically 40% in the NFL since losing Aidan Hutchinson. Okay, so you lose the guy who can get you pressure. They've been bringing at least one extra man to rush the pass or five guys at least. The lowest blitz rate that they've had in a game over that timeframe actually came in Week 9 against the Packers. But whenever they were blitzing, they were successful. Jordan Love completed just 3 of 10 passes for 23 yards with an interception when he was blitzed, compared to averaging 8.6 yards per attempt when he wasn't. Blitz Love has struggled against the blitz this season, averaging just 5.5 yards per attempt, which is 32nd in the NFL against four or fewer pass rushers. Love has average A league high 9.4 yards per attempt. So the way the Lions have had to play defense, especially with the injuries everywhere, is they gotta like simulate the pressure. They gotta make it happen. What are your thoughts on that's how Aaron Glenn has been operating the team since losing Aiden Hutchinson? And do they know that from watching the last game that that's what they need to do?
Chuck Pagano
So they got 30 sacks to this point in the season. Aiden had seven and a half of those sacks through six games. Okay, eighth most pressure rate to your point. But they've sacraed is 27th in the league. So they've got to generate by adding extra bodies. And you think about it, Pascal's out. All right, so out of those 30 sacks that they have on the season to this point, all right, 15 of those were by guys that are no longer on the football field. So injury bog. So basically with Zedarius and McNeil, you have to throw other bodies because they don't have anybody else that can really win one on ones. So Aaron's got to throw bodies at him.
Pat McAfee
And Jordan has not done well, I guess, against that. But LaFleur knows that stat as well right there.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, and that's. I take that with a grain of salt a little bit. Because if you remember when they played the Lions the first time, the big kind of talking point going into the game was like, hey, should the packers just sit Jordan Love because they have a bye week following this game and he's already kind of banged up. He had the. The growing issue from Jacksonville. Like, it has been very noticeable that he is. He's healthy now. Like, yeah, I know. Getting a little jacked up. You know, Jack the blitz stuff is Weird too, because again, it's one of those things with the stats. Like, I just read a stat before the show, too, that, like, talked about, you know, Jordan Love in his career against the blitz, like, he has been. He's been unbelievable. And where that ranks and the. So, like this year, not as good, but I mean, it's one of those things where I think he was a little banged up last time. And to your point, like, he hasn't turned the ball over in three weeks. If he can continue to play smart and kind of just take what's given to him and not try to score a touchdown on every play.
Pat McAfee
Week, I think week nine, week 14, that's pretty close to playing each other, right? Five weeks, does that matter or does that mean anything?
Chuck Pagano
Again, these two know each other.
Pat McAfee
Got it.
Chuck Pagano
So what?
Pat McAfee
That was Titans, I think. Then we play one game and then we play the Titans again. It'd be like two and three weeks. It's always interesting how they do it, but. I'm sorry, go ahead.
Chuck Pagano
But you'll carry things that you have in a game plan. Like on a short week, these guys have had seven days to your point about playing on Thanksgiving and had a full week. But on a short week, you'll take things from the previous game plan that you didn't use and didn't put on tape that you've already practiced for the opponent that you played prior. So you can bring some of those things back in. They'll also look at some things that they had in the first game plan that they didn't use. Maybe dial those things up. And then the big thing is like, hey, we gave him this look and did this. Maybe we give them the same look and do something different. The other thing with the blitz patterns and things, there's so many new bodies on the Detroit's defense, so I don't know if like the linebacker, they just. They just signed, like, do these guys know all these blitz patterns? Do they know how to get to the disguised Tampa looks where they're showing their bluff and they're getting out. Jordan Love, he misses an easy touchdown on that first drive because of pressure. We have the clip. We're going to show later. That angle route to the back.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. 30. Number 30.
John Kuhn
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Chris Brooks.
AJ Hawk
Chris, I'm third down.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. If that ball is delivered in a spot, it's a touchdown there. And the stats and everything that he put together for this tale of the tape and what happened in the last matchup, it's like the packers had to be bummed out after that game, I mean there had to be a bit of a bum out situation. And then you watch what the Lions have gone on to do. It's like this Lions team dominant. I think this NFC north is special now. Speaking of special, we are having a glorious run against the sportsbook and then hold off. I don't know where we're at right now after how last weekend went. Let's go to 1/2 of the Hammer Cowboys AP 10 where's the money tonight and where's the money on the season? Have we as the people won or have these rat bastard sportsbooks won?
AP Tony
The so yeah, we started the season incredible, like one of the best of all time. And then we, then it definitely cooled off. It was some, some terrible times and now it's kind of evened out. Where the 60% of bets, where the public is on 60% or more of the bets is it's been pretty much 50, 50 each week. So we've, we've kind of found. Found waters found its level tonight. 58% of the bets are on the Detroit Lions and that's. Well, the public just. I mean since Dan Campbell has gone on his run that there has been no better against the spread team than the Detroit Lions and they're nine and three against the spread this year. So I mean when, when gamblers find a team that wins for them, they tend to just stick with them and ride them until they. Till they cannot ride them.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, this team's been good to me. Great. This team's been good to me. And we talked to some of these college coaches where they know that they're going to be judged off of whether or not they cover because like people's actual money is on the line. So even if you win games and you don't cover, there's a way for fans to spin that is they're kind of underperforming and they also have a bitter taste about it. So whenever. Not only you. Awesome. When you're on a microphone like mcdc is not only whenever your team is fun to watch, which Ben Johnson, that offense is fun to watch. I mean the way they go. Penny Sewell had the ball last week. Awesome. He. And he almost did something with it.
Ty Schmidt
He did look out tonight.
Pat McAfee
Who knows, maybe he gets another opportunity this evening. But whenever you have a hilariously legendary head coach who speaks hilarious in epic fashions and then you have a fun team to watch and then they dominate people and you're making money off them, it's like that's, that's a good Recipe. That's a recipe for success on becoming America's team, which I think a lot of people are loving what the Detroit Lions are doing. I don't think as many people that are betting on them know all these injuries, man, it's like so many. How many is too many for the Detroit Lions? That's a real question.
AJ Hawk
And to your point about the head coach, I was nervous about this game all week. This is definitely our toughest game of the season. And I woke up today and I'm like, mcdc doesn't care about the injuries. That's been his message all week. Aaron Glenn doesn't care about the injuries. That's been his message all week. And I kind of think they might be able to grit this one out because of the offense. And Ty, you remember in the first game, those possessions, the packers had the ball seven minutes long, then the Lions got the ball seven minutes long, and the Lions capitalized and they scored touchdowns on those possessions. If they can play that way tonight and really extend the game like that, I think we have a great chance. So that's what we got to do from now on. Because of the injuries.
Con Man
Well, the injuries, too. Like, they're all in one spot. You know, obviously it's not all D line, but it's that front seven. It is specifically that, like, they're not missing a massive piece on the offense right now. Of course, that is definitely a big loss, but, like, the fact that it is just the front seven and watching what Josh Jacobs has been doing, like, he is unbelievable. So when you're talking about one of the most important things for them to stop it would be Josh Jacobs. And I mean, what half three. Four of those guys are D line linebackers.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
And no DJ reader tonight as well. Who's not on that list.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I mean, and we got. I was looking at the. Cause obviously, we watch all the other shows that are on espn and we have a lot of respect for a lot of the people that go on those shows and do those shows, like, legitimately and the people behind the scenes. So when I saw the pics this morning, it was like, lions, Lions, Lions. And then Greeny was on packers, and he was almost like, I'm sticking with him. And they were almost laughing. And then he heard Dan goes, that's a good pick. Or whatever. It was like, is that how we're really. Is that.
AJ Hawk
That surprises me.
Pat McAfee
I didn't. And then 58% of the money, obviously, I. I thought it would been a little closer. It's like, have we not seen enough of the packers? Or does everybody just love this Lions ride that we've been on? And I think I'm one of my. I'm one of the biggest brand new Lions riders.
AJ Hawk
Yes.
Pat McAfee
I love it. I love everything that McDonald done. I love the way they play. I love the redemption story for Jared Goff. I've enjoyed it from literally minute one of mcdc being the Lions head coach. That opening press conference, think about our show. If you're new to our show and you've only learned of us since coming onto espn, think about how we handled Motor City. Dan Campbell's opening press conference with the gnawing of the kneecaps, getting knocked back down, coming back up. That made our show for about 10 days straight. That was basically what we talked about in the whole thing. So then whenever they start bad, we're bummed out. Yeah, we did not like we wanted more of that type of stuff in the NFL. So following the ride that the Lions have gone on in the city of Detroit's been able to get behind has been pretty epic. Like, that has been pretty cool. How many, like, how many injuries can you handle? That is what. That is literally what takes down teams in the NFL. Everybody says, oh, we got unlucky injury wise. It's like, that's the nf. That's a part of the NFL. The positions that get hurt cannot be your pillar positions. And it's like when Aiden Hutchinson got hurt, I think we all wondered, like, how are they. This guy, seven and a half sacks. You said at the time, in the first six games, like, how are they going to. They continued, Anzalone. They continue. Other guys get it. They continue. It's like, I don't know if they just have something that nobody else has been able to figure out. Whether it's moxie, confidence or strategy, scheme, people, whatever it is. But just being able to fill in people into these very important front seven with the way they play football.
AJ Hawk
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
And the way everything goes is like one of the most important, important groups on the entire team. And they've lost everyone.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I don't know how long you can do that. I legitimately don't know how long you can do that.
AJ Hawk
And to your point, what worries me is you saw it in the second half of the Bears game. Caleb Williams was able to move the ball at will. They were scoring touchdowns. And that's because so many guys went down. So that's what worries me tonight. Because Jordan Love, he can sling that thing. Especially last year on Thanksgiving in Ford Field. He did that. So that's the biggest worry. And that's why I'm. I'm pretty shocked everyone's taking the Lions night. I'm not going to lie.
Pat McAfee
I think it's legitimately just. We love the Lions.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. And, like, the offense, they can score so many points.
Pat McAfee
Like, that's what it can win is.
Ty Schmidt
At any time, this conversation has come up with how banged up. Like, everyone we've talked to have said, like, well, like, this Lions offense has put up historical numbers. Like, they can win games 45 to 42. Like, they can do that. And they're off.
Pat McAfee
Right. I didn't even think Ben Johnson could scheme up.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly. Oh, yeah. And their offense, you know, for how unlucky their defense has been in terms of injuries. Like, yeah, Taylor Decker is not playing tonight. But, like, their offense, correct me if I'm wrong, Foxy, but, like, their offense has been pretty damn healthy all year long.
Pat McAfee
Yep.
Chuck Pagano
31 points a game. Dan Skipper steps in at 31 points a game.
Pat McAfee
People say, like, if you average 20 points a game, you're going to be like, top three in the NFL. They're averaging 31 points a game. It's like they're playing like seven on seven out there most of the time. Because how good that offensive line is. You talk about Skip just getting plugged in there?
AP Tony
No.
Chuck Pagano
And the defense, you got to, like, we're going to hear a bunch of names called tonight that we don't. Nobody recognizes on the Detroit defense. Right. The secondary's intact. They got probably the best tandem at safety in Branch and Joseph in the National Football League. Got another amazing safety on the other side. And Xavier McKinney. They're both tied. Joseph McKinney, seven interceptions each for the league lead. But at some point, something's got to give. Green Bay ran the ball on him Week nine, you know, and that was against Pascal, that was against Reader. That's. That's against the starters. So these guys are backups for a reason, right? They're backups. All right. Now, there hasn't been success stories. If you got to go to the street to get a guy to sign a guy, you're bringing in guys on Tuesday to work out the linebacker, where Quan Alexander, I think it is. They're on the street for a reason.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Chuck Pagano
Right. So the more. The more. The more innings that those guys got to play, they get exposed like a backup quarterback coming in the game. Like, you play a couple innings, hey, get us in and out of maybe two or three, like, over a long period of time over 60 minute game. Pound you pound you pound you. The offensive line. Last time I looked pretty good for Green Bay. So you can. I mean, that grit and that will and all that shit. You love that.
Pat McAfee
I think we know which one.
Chuck Pagano
But at some point, I mean, it's really hard to bet against those guys, especially at home in the rec. And the other thing is, like, who needs this game more?
Pat McAfee
Who's Detroit? I'd say Detroit would need it.
AJ Hawk
We're going to learn a lot about the Lions tonight.
Pat McAfee
The reason why his home field advantage is very.
Chuck Pagano
But if you look at Detroit, if you look at the rest of the schedule, like, it's not easy, Right. Foxy for Detroit.
AJ Hawk
No, they got to play the Bills. They got to play the Vikings again. They got to play the Bears. They got to play the Niner. Yeah, it's tough.
Con Man
I think left.
Chuck Pagano
They've got a tough, tougher schedule. Philly's got the easier schedule.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
In my opinion, than these guys. Neither of these guys want to lose a game, but it just feels like Green Bay at 9 and 3 needs this one a little bit more. They're a little bit more healthy. They're missing a couple guys too on the defensive side. Alexander Jair's out, Edrigen Cooper's out. So they're missing a couple pieces as well. Not as many as Detroit, though.
AP Tony
I looked it up. Goff is 40 and 19 against the spread since joining the Lions and those first ones didn't go so well.
Pat McAfee
Thank you. Go.
Con Man
So probably doing that for us these last few Thursday Night football games too. Like all divisional matchups. Basically the Brown Steelers underdog three and a half. They covered before that, I believe the Eagles actually covered the three and a half or four. They were favorite against the Commanders. And the week before that, I think it was the Bengals who are underdogs plus six or whatever they covered against the rape.
Pat McAfee
Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is another P that loves talking about ball. He's a tag talk speaker. That's crazy. Had the little Madonna mic thing.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Those are sweet.
Pat McAfee
On the stage you like when you speak at those. Every one of those is like a matter of fact, you know, and the people that are listen, they're there to listen to a matter of fact speech. Yeah. Trying to get better. Those. Those are done. Yeah. I haven't seen them in my algorithm.
Ty Schmidt
They're pop. I haven't seen many.
Pat McAfee
I did a hell of a run.
Chuck Pagano
Lambo and Duckworth are the last two I've seen since Angela Dalcourth on grit.
Pat McAfee
Okay. That is the one that changed your entire perspective. I think it became our. It became our entire team's monster.
Chuck Pagano
Many of those anymore. I hate to interrupt. Sorry.
Pat McAfee
The grit coins or the TED Talkers?
Chuck Pagano
Just TED Talkers. Where'd they go?
Pat McAfee
Or the grit coins. Where did they go?
Chuck Pagano
Grit coins.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we got them.
Con Man
The chips.
Pat McAfee
I still got a great chip. Yeah, it's not on me right now. It might be in this building somewhere.
Con Man
A necklace, right? You used to wear it every day.
Ty Schmidt
They're safe at home. I thought.
Pat McAfee
Actually, that's funny you say that. I melt it down. It is. I don't have my belt on. Jeez Louise.
Ty Schmidt
It's on your belt buckle.
Pat McAfee
It's on a belt. It's always with me.
Ty Schmidt
Coach. Time. Wrist.
AP Tony
Actually with your BCS champion.
Pat McAfee
I put it in my.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Put in my watch and that. Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
We were doing great before. Mcdc was doing great.
Pat McAfee
Long time. You. And like, I guess Duckworth introduced the word grit to you and why it's the greatest word and everything like that. And then that became, like team mantra. For real. And everybody bought in. Those grid chips were all over the place. As soon as you hand them out, you got a little poker. Poker chip says grid on it. So this is cool. And then he tells the whole story about a challenge coin. You know, with the military. He goes, that's what I'm expecting out of you guys. So we all laugh at him. And then, like two meetings later, he's like, all right. Where you're. And people pull it. And then it became like a thing. It became like a Chuck Ukraine.
AP Tony
Grit. Thought it was the soldiers and factory workers and steel workers.
Pat McAfee
Jeez Louise. He didn't create grit. He. He decided to make grit a mantra. I believe is how you would describe.
Chuck Pagano
It's about resiliency. It's about perseverance. It's about getting through shit.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. Sounds like a meme coin.
Chuck Pagano
Because life. Life's hard, right?
Pat McAfee
Don't buy that.
Chuck Pagano
As soon as you figure it out. Starts getting a hell of a lot easier. Intuitiveness. Don't give up.
Pat McAfee
Never. This guy was beaten. Beat leukemia. So maybe, yeah. Yeah, maybe. Yeah. Oh, I thought it was.
AP Tony
I haven't done shit, but I created grit.
Chuck Pagano
Don't be Keemia.
Pat McAfee
He read a book. He read a book. He read a book about.
Con Man
First TED talk you ever heard was Eisenhower, World War II.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that was. Good speech.
Con Man
One of the best.
Pat McAfee
Anyways. What happened to those, Ted, we need those back.
Con Man
I know that would Be nice. I think because of the podcast platform.
Pat McAfee
Now everybody does them.
Con Man
Instead of doing TED talks, you go on Joe Rogan and then just talk there.
Pat McAfee
Do your ted.
AP Tony
Actually, I thought they said so good. Like, why are we going to do any more?
Pat McAfee
Well, maybe. You know what else I missed? Unplugged.
Con Man
Oh, man.
Pat McAfee
Unplugged was a great show. They can bring that back.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, there it is.
Pat McAfee
Mac Miller had a gray one.
Con Man
They still do those. Those are still going. The tiny desk.
Pat McAfee
Sure. Yeah, they're doing great. I thought Jeezy. I saw Jeezy did one like a year or two ago.
Chuck Pagano
Who was Unplugged?
Pat McAfee
That was a music. Whenever they would tell basically the stories about why they wrote the songs and then they play the songs, it was like a little intimate. It was good. It was like a once again podcast, though.
Con Man
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Okay. So podcast kind of murdered all these things. Well, joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a podcast host. Yeah, he's a live show host as well. He's a multiple time super bowl champion. Ladies and gentlemen, paisano extraordinaire, Michael Lombardi.
Michael Lombardi
What's up? Hey.
Pat McAfee
How'd the TED Talk come together? They sent you an email and said, hey, you're an expert. We want to hear you talk about it. Is that how that goes?
Michael Lombardi
You know, I got a phone call from a speaking bureau, and it said, since you're writing a book, would you be interested in doing a TED Talk? And I thought, yeah, how hard could that be? I think it's the hardest thing you can. You do. Because you can't use a PowerPoint. You cannot. You have to memorize it. It's like Hamlet. To be or not to be. You got to go in there and you got to memorize every word. I was a nervous wreck. It was hard. It was really hard. And you got to stay in that little circle. You can't move, and you can't use the PowerPoint to help direct your conversation. And then you're looking at this giant clock because you only have 14 minutes, and you better get it all in or else they're going to cut you off.
Pat McAfee
Is it your crowd or is it a crowd that's just there for a speaker? Like, did they know you?
Michael Lombardi
No, Nobody. I don't think I didn't know. There was like, There were like 16 speakers. It was up in Santa Barbara in a theater, and it was full. The place was packed, and every speaker, there must have been 16 of us. They were all going through it, and everybody was waiting. You know, you're rehearsing your speech. You're like, you're doing a Broadway play. And it was like, you know, writing it out. I was a wreck. I mean, I went and had two Jack Daniels after that. I was like, okay, this is it. This is really hard.
Pat McAfee
You could think about doing the Jack Daniels beforehand, too. Might have been frowned upon. I did.
Michael Lombardi
I thought about it, you know, but then I thought I would slur my words. But so I just kind of. I waited until afterwards and I couldn't wait to run to the bar because it was hard, but it was fun to do. I'd do it again. It just was. You had to be, really. And you had to practice a lot. There was a lot of practice in it.
Pat McAfee
Well, congrats. Not a lot of people get to do TED Talks. And once again, you said you'd do it again. I think it's dead. I think you would do it on a podcast and then it would hopefully get shared. And then people would put music behind it and then they'd have reenactment behind it, and then it would be. That's a whole thing. That's the whole world now. But we're all smarter for it, especially because of what you do every single week with us. We're very grateful for that. Feels like there's another great Thursday Night Football game.
Michael Lombardi
This feels like, yeah, great football game.
Pat McAfee
This has been happening now, Lambo. There's been a lot of good games happening on Thursday night. Remember, Jeff Bezos has a lot of money. Amazon has a lot of money. They invested a lot of money. There was a couple times there, a couple years there where it was dud, dud, dud. And you knew the NFL was going to try to make it up, seemingly. And he can never project injuries and everything like that, which will be a topic of tonight's conversation. But these games have been great and tonight's a huge one in the NFC North. We mention injuries because I think it's very vital for the conversation about this Lions team. How long can they survive with the amount of injuries they have to their front seven on the defensive side? I know mcdc, phenomenal coach. We have sang his praises. We love the mentality, we love the culture. But like in the history of the NFL, good teams end up losing because of injuries. Yeah, that is normally what happens. Are we. How worried are you about the Lions being able to manage this? And how do you think tonight goes?
Michael Lombardi
Well, I think it's hard and not on that list because he's not on ir. Is DJ reader who May not play tonight.
Pat McAfee
No, he's out tonight.
Michael Lombardi
I think he's out tonight. That's another one there. They're just going to have. And Pasco, the other defensive lineman, he's out too. So they have two defensive linemen to go along with guys that are on that list. It's really mounting. I mean, look, I think Philadelphia and Detroit are the class of the NFL. Forget the AFC or nfc. I think those are the two best teams and they kind of mirror one another, right? It's fascinating that we live in the NFL where everybody talks about being an RPO game, being in shotgun, but these two teams are under center. Philadelphia, they are in some shotgun, but they lead the league in rushing attempts and they're in the bottom of the league in passing attempts. But where they really excel is yards per attempt passing. So when they do decide to throw the ball, they just don't check it down. They get it down the field and add Green Bay to that list. Green Bay is the number one team in the National Football League in first half play calling. They're going to run the ball more than they're going to throw it and they're in the top five in those two categories that I mentioned. But I think to me, Detroit loses out a little bit because these injuries, they can become replaceable. But the depth, as we saw in the fourth quarter of that game on Thanksgiving, it wears you down. All of a sudden you start losing players and now your backups go from playing 10 plays to playing 30 plays and they're not as effective. That's what worries you. Detroit, to me is going to be a tough out, whether they have to go on the road in the playoffs or if they play at home, if they're healthy. But if they're not, it becomes harder.
Pat McAfee
I didn't even think about potential injuries to guys that are filling in tonight like the tonight start having getting banged up. Then you got actual fifth stringers now playing in.
Michael Lombardi
Meaning they're signing guys, Pat. They're signing guys off the practice squad. They signed a guy off the practice squad from the Rams. They signed one from Seattle. They brought in Jamal Adams, who they're going to probably play at linebacker. They said they claimed David Long off the waiver wire from. I mean, they're trying to patchwork this together and it's hard. It's not easy.
Pat McAfee
I'd like to say, you know, you feel bad on that. No Longbow, we'd like to say phenomenal coaching job over there. Definitely Aaron Glenn in all the Kelvin Shepard, whose former Teammate of mine is a linebacker coach over there. They got a lot of great coaches over there on the defensive side of the ball. It's like this is not a shot at coaching being able to figure it out. This is just like a. How many humans that aren't on NFL rosters can you plug into an NFL roster and still win NFL games? Like that is. That's like the game in this entire thing.
AJ Hawk
And Aaron Glenn said about the new guys, he said, I'm not worried about the playbook. It's more about the style of play. I need them to play Detroit Lions football and as a fan, I absolutely love that.
Michael Lombardi
And I think it speaks to the culture in their locker room too. They have tremendous culture. And the veteran players, the veteran players take over. I think you see that in Detroit. You can feel it that they take over. And look, you know, with the other injury we didn't mention is Taylor Decker. He's not going to play left tackle tonight. Now, there was some talk that they were going to move Sewell over to right left tackle. I think that would be a mistake because I think you'd be better off just keeping the big fella at right tackle and running the ball behind them so well that they do and not try to change. And you can game plan around Skipper at left tackle. You know, you got a chip, you know, you've got to make sure that if you want to throw it down the field, you're going to have to give them some help. So these injuries have taken a toll. And look, Green Bay has injuries too. Jair Alexander is not going to go. Dobbs still has the concussion. They have the same issues too. But one thing we do know about Green Bay, besides the fresh haircut that Matt LaFleur is going to give us tonight and it's going to be sensational. We know that is he's really good in the month of December. I mean he is really good. And we're, we're. Matt LaFleur is really good too is when he's a three point or less dog. He's got Mike Tomlin like numbers in that category and you can't overlook it.
Pat McAfee
We all owe Leflore, you know, Flowers La floors. We owe him his language floors because I think we all wondered and by we it's us that we are into microphones. But now after you watch this like the consistency, they're nine and three right now. That is a very, very good record. Very good record. Now they're in the Lions division, so it's not. They're in the Vikings division. So it's like is it that 9 and 3, basically any other division you're in a great spot, shout out to the floor doing his thing. And to your point about the Lions and the Eagles and you talk about their running and then you mentioned that the packers also first half when it comes to running, I got a stat from Hembo about the Philadelphia Eagles in their running. Here's an element for Philly during this win streak. They've stuck to their identity when trailing the Philadelphia Eagles. Their run pass ratio is 52% run to 48% pass even when they're trailing. That's obviously incredible discipline by Kellen Moore. But that's also them not getting caught up in what they got caught up in last year. Right. Lambo, do you think that's the case?
Michael Lombardi
That's exactly what it is. They know who they are. And think about this. Let's add something more to this, right? They also, in the last five games that they've won, they've outgained running than passing. They've gained more yards on the ground than they have throwing the football five consecutive weeks in a row. So for all the talk about, well, you can't run the ball, running is a waste of time. They've proven this point. But here's where it gets more interesting. I think to me and Chuck can verify this. Teams that can run the ball in the red zone inside the 30, it's the best way to score, right. The way to get in the end zone is through ground transportation.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Michael Lombardi
It's the best way to score. And this team is really good. Philadelphia is the number one team in rushing inside the 30, Detroit's number two. And then you've got to be able to stop teams from running the ball when they get in the end zone. That's the signature of a really good team. Philadelphia is the fourth best team in that area, Detroit's fifth. So those two things always go hand in hand. And then let's take the opposite. Cincinnati, who doesn't want to run the ball, who has no interest in running the football, can't stop the run, nor can they run. And then they can't run when they get down the end zone. And then they make mistakes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, run game is coming back into style. You know that running back market and everybody was talking about and the wide receiver market was through the roof. Now it feels like that's about to football the next couple years feels like the run game, offense alignment I think are about to get paid a little bit more. From their teams if instead of letting them go. Let's finish up on the Philadelphia Eagles here. Here's some more stats from Hembo. In 2023, the Eagles had the number seven scoring offense and the number 30 scoring defense. In 2024, they have the number seven scoring offense and the fourth scoring defense. So that's.
Michael Lombardi
You know why that is, Pat? Let me tell you why that is. Vic's done a great job, but they're in condition. Look at their defensive line. Jalen Carter's playing most every play. Last year, they were like a hockey line. They were changing every three plays. They were so out of shape, they couldn't stay on the field. This year, they're in really good condition. They've spent time. Give Philadelphia credit what they did. They changed how they practiced. They changed how they conditioned the team, and now they're better off for it. Philly did a great job this offseason of identifying why they lost, and they identified why they won. And so therefore, they played within that and they really have done a good job. They're in shape, and you can't wear them down. I mean, look, last week, if you'd have told me jalen Hurts is going to throw for 118 yards and they're going to win, I would have said, you're crazy. But they do it and give Vic credit. Remember when Vic left Miami, all the players said it was too hard to play for. They killed him. It's too hard. He's too hard on it. Philadelphia is embracing it because you know why? Hard wins if you want to win a championship. It isn't easy.
Chuck Pagano
We know how soft Miami is.
Pat McAfee
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Easy.
Chuck Pagano
I saw the deal. It was on the.
Pat McAfee
Maybe Vic. Maybe Vic Fangio brought too many air conditionings, you know, units during practice, and it was just too cold in Fangio's meeting room. Maybe that was. Have we thought about that? That's certainly not maybe. Fangio keeps that thing down at like 52. He likes to chill. He likes to keep people alive in the meeting room. And the Dolphins players are like, it's too cold. It's too good. McDaniel comes in, get out of here. Get out of here. Is that what. Is that why Vic Fangio was hated?
AP Tony
I think the players just thought he was an asshole.
Pat McAfee
Oh, okay. Well, he does. The Philly does really well. And you talk about Hertz having 118 yards. I'm still getting a win over their eight game win streak here. Here's some notable wide receiver performances versus this Eagles defense. Okay? Exciting Watson, the boys. Jamar Chase, 54 yards on 38 routes. CD Lamb, 21 yards on 26 routes. And Terry McLaurin, Scary Terry, 10 yards on 25 routes. Against the Eagles, it's like that's obviously the defensive line getting home what you're talking about, but also the secondary and.
Chuck Pagano
Everybody in on four man rush. They get home with four men, they can deploy seven into coverage. Vicks loves playing zone coverage. He gets a lot of bodies around everybody eyes on the quarterback. Breaking downhill, break. They're probably not playing as many snaps either because they're getting off the field. Right, Lambo? So they can run.
Michael Lombardi
Look, the best way to play defense in the NFL is play less defense. That's the best way to play defense. And so they, and so when you run the ball as much as they do, they eat their clock up. That's why this game tonight, both teams will run the ball. This, this game tonight will be a nine possession game. You know, they're not going to get many possessions when you run the ball and eat the clock off. And I think that's what makes Philly so good. And look, let's face it, they can throw it down the field when they have to throw it. And they don't play from behind. That's the thing. Even for a team that doesn't score. They got behind Baltimore 10 to nothing. They were able to come back on it and dominate that game.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, even when they're behind, they still run. But also you got AJ Brown, you got garter, you got, you got weapons whenever you need it. If you can run the ball. Guess what that does to the box, Chuck?
Michael Lombardi
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Makes it heavy. What does that mean on the outside?
Chuck Pagano
One on one.
Pat McAfee
That's what we like. That's playoff football. Good for the Eagles. Well, the Lions be able to remain as the number one seed in the NFC throughout the rest of the year with all their injuries. We shall see. Let's stay in the NFC north, shall we? Ty has a question for you. Lambo.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Lambo, just curious, what'd you think of the whole Matt Eberflusse no timeout deal on Thanksgiving? And then there was also a report that came out today, I think from Dan McNeil, that said Jim Harbaugh was interested in the Bears job or at least talking to them in January, and Kevin Warren just kind nix that. I don't know if that's the Ohio State, Michigan deal, but are you confident that the Bears are going to make the right hire this upcoming cycle?
Pat McAfee
If.
Ty Schmidt
Because we've Been led to believe that Kevin Warren is going to have like a massive hand in hiring their next.
Pat McAfee
Remember, Kevin Warren was deciding the feng shui of the Sweets in the new stadium on hard knock watching.
Michael Lombardi
Yeah, well, you can do that and you can run a team. Look, Kevin Warren's running the team. Let's make no mistake about that, okay? You can sit there and say that somebody else's. He is. And that story that was written about Jim Harbaugh is completely true. Now remember Warren and Harbaugh? Warren being the commissioner of the Big Ten and Harbaugh had some differences and I think it let it spill over. But there were two teams that Jim Harbaugh would have loved to work for. I'm sure last year. The Bears, who he played for and was the number one pick for, and then the Las Vegas Raiders, who he worked for in his first coaching job. Neither team decided to make. Decided to go after him.
Pat McAfee
Why?
Michael Lombardi
I don't know. To me, if you're Kevin Warren, the object of this is to get the best coach available. And Jim Harbaugh would have been the best coach for your team. Now you would have had to fire Eberfluss. Let's go back to the end of the game. If you read Caleb Williams comments after the game, you know what usually happens here? He signaled for a double move when. After this sack, right? They should have called timeout. Everything happens when you save timeouts in the NFL on a two minute drill because if you get sacked, you need them because it takes too long for everybody to come back. Now they wanted to run a stick route on the next play. Unfortunately, Caleb decided to change the play and throw a double move to Roma Dunze, you could see him signal it for here. He even said, look, later in my career I probably would have tried to get the field goal, but I wanted to win the game for my teammates. This is really just hard. This is bad football and it doesn't work. And ultimately it falls in the hands of Eberfluss, who got himself fired for this. And it falls in the hand of the quarterback not recognizing you need to be in field position. I mean, even the Lions were stunned. They were completely stunned. And this at the end of the game is part of the issue, right? Situational football matters in December. And you just let an opportunity. And the quarterback even admitted that he would have done it. He did it. He changed the play, right? A double move. Now that's on Eberfluss too. Because if you would have called timeout before, right? If you'd have Called timeout. Before you come to the huddle, you come over to the sideline and say, look, here's what we're going to do. We're going to stick route, we're going to throw the ball to commit. I got the field goal rush team, they're ready to go right on the field. We're going to kick the field goal. Get this game in overtime. Here's what we're going to do. Let's go do it. But they didn't do that. They let that time keep just dwindling off. Remember, never look at the clock during the two minute drill. It's how many plays are left in the game. The clock is not numbers, it's plays. And so when you go from 34 to 0 and you don't get four or five plays in that time or at least maybe three plays, you've just given away the game.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And obviously once the plan was we're going to try to run that play at 18 seconds, I think he said, yep. And then we're going to try to call it timeout. Well once I get to 17, 16 and we don't have a play yet, obviously that's when you know, you see the panic coach run timeout move happen a lot during an NFL season. I think there's a chance Heber flu is about though with it all. Yeah, I, I think there's a chance Eber flu just pre checked out. That's what he looked like on the sideline. He looked like he was just checked out.
Con Man
Understandable.
Pat McAfee
So I don't want to say a relief to get fired from the situation but potentially eber fluss is he knew what was inevitable because it wasn't just that move. There's a lot of that has happened this year. One score, games, decisions that have been made, yada, yada, yada. Caleb saying maybe later in my career I'll do it differently. It's like yikes. Let's worry about this year.
Michael Lombardi
Yeah. Try to win now.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Let's not worry about if you're going to be a 10 year quarterback, which we hope, we hope you will.
Michael Lombardi
You read that quote. That's not. You're going to have to bring somebody in that can coach him and I think it's going to be, I think Thomas Brown's done a really good job the last couple of weeks of changing the offense but they're going to have to do the defense. I think, you know, everybody says well polls is definitely coming back and he and Kevin Warren made it very clear. But this team is anti Chicago. This team is built outside and not inside out. You play in the Windy City, you got to be really good in the offensive defensive lines. They're not. You know, you can't run Eberfalus scheme without great defensive linemen. We see it in San Francisco, same type of scheme. As good as San Francisco is they can't win games because they don't have dominant defensive line, especially when Bose is not in there. So it's a little bit of a. This is a. The Chicago problem isn't just coaching. It's a little bit of how the team was built as well.
Pat McAfee
Man, if. Let's say I was to end up being a coach or a gm. So somewhere. Sure. That O line and D line is right where you had. That is. That is legitimately. That is the first. I think that is the first stop for any. Obviously everybody says you need a quarterback. Sure. Doesn't matter who the hell your quarterback is if you don't have O line in front of him. I legitimately like. You talk about Jim Harbaugh. Whenever he goes out to the Chargers and he just lets the skill guys that are worth a lot of money go. And who's he hanging on to? Well, the older expensive guys that are on the O line or the D line, like that is who he. And then they use their top 10 pick for offensive lineman and then they go in again. It's like Jim Harbaugh immediately. Well, he has a quarterback already in just Herbert, but he's like, this is where I'm focusing on. This is where we're going to be great. Philadelphia Eagles. Nick Sirianni's big takeaway about football because of his dad and he told Howie is what?
Ty Schmidt
O line, D line. Howie, O line, D line.
Pat McAfee
So him in Philadelphia, legitimately, it is college ball, NFL ball.
Michael Lombardi
It's not going to change. But what happens at the draft is we get all these draft guys and we got, you know, we got Mel over there sitting there too. It's all they talk about are receivers. They got 27 receivers going in the first. Gotta have a receiver. I mean, that's Chicago's problem. They got, you know, keenan Allen paying 22 million. They trade for D.J. moore. They draft Rome Dunes. I mean, look, it's great, but what wins games. The Eagles got Jalen Carter dumped in their lap. I mean, you to find a three technique in the National Football League is like trying to hunt for dinosaurs. You can't find them. It's impossible. And they get it. They get one late in Their lap at the ninth pick overall in the draft. And it's like, how long did it take them to turn that card in? Yeah, so it's just we. We have this mentality during football season. All we talk about what wins the game is offensive and defensive lineman. When we get to the draft, everybody talk about what we need. Guys to get the ball in the end zone. We need all this. We need all that. No, the games won up front. Detroit, why do they win? The deep offensive line is dominant.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Michael Lombardi
Why does Cincinnati not win? They can't block. They can't run block. They can't control the game. Why is Philly good? They can control the game. I would add one more thing to you. The offensive line coach is one of the most important people in any organization. He should be one of the most highest paid coaches on the staff. He coaches five players, plus he's got to develop some young offensive lineman. If you don't have a good line coach. We learned this in Cleveland when Belichick and I were together, you know, we did not have a good line coach. And all of a sudden we hired Kirk Ferenz from University of Maine. Next thing you know, we. All of a sudden we went from being the worst line in the league to being one of the best lines in the league because of Kirk. And he was such a great line coach. And that makes all the difference in the world.
Pat McAfee
Coach Ference, obviously, Kirk's dogs help out everything, but if I. Hey, Ren. Ren Baker. Ren, you're doing a great job. First. Oh, yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Go, bro.
Pat McAfee
Athletic director of West Virginia. Ran, you're doing a great job, and I trust whoever you're going to pick, and you know that you have to make this pick right. And I'm not here to add any more pressure. I'm here to help out however you need. And to let you know, whenever people are looking for the gig, we should be talking to whoever says we want to commit to the offensive line, into the defensive line, whoever. Because there's enough quarterbacks in college.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, hon.
Pat McAfee
If you have a good offensive line and you can, you can find a quarterback that can fit in a scheme there. So I. Ren, if you could. There's no way he's listening right now. He's probably.
Michael Lombardi
Have him text me. I'll help him, Pat. I'll help him. That's the most important thing. I'll volunteer to help.
Pat McAfee
I was about to call FaceTime and say, hey, we need offense a lot. You are in the middle of this thing and it's.
Michael Lombardi
And it Goes back over time. I mean, look, you can go through every team, you know, it's. How do you, how do you get control of the game? Why can't Miami win in late in the season? Everybody says it's the weather. I mean, Mike McDaniel's 5 and 12 in the last seven games the last three years. They can't win because their offensive line never can get control of the game. Everything evolves around making sure that we, you know, we've got to finesse our way on third and one. That's why if you can run the ball in the red zone, that's why it's really important to look at who runs the ball. The Buffalo's run for 21 touchdowns in the red zone this year.
Pat McAfee
That's because Josh Allen, 22. Hey, Josh Allen is such a weapon down there. He's untackable, but you gotta account for him. And then they got James Cook and Davis. Yeah. That are able to cook off of that. It is a that. I like your thought right there though. Because being able to run in the open grass, you know, we hear from coach Tomlin which Tone is about to ask about first being able to run in the red zone. The red zone is like running in four minute. You know, they know you're trying to run it. It's tight quarters, it's going to be hard to try to run. Can you still run it when they know you're going to run it? Those are the teams that inevitably end up winning because they can end games, they can put people out and they can control games. And that's why the top five performing offensive lines in the trenches with AQ Shipley. If you go back, I assume from the beginning of the season we'd be able to tell who is going to be the good teams and who's not going to be the good team. Seemingly.
Michael Lombardi
That's right.
Pat McAfee
And now let's get an inside look every single week for the rest of the year with another season of Hard knocks. Tone has a question for you. Lambo. Yeah, Lambo.
AP Tony
First ever whole division in season. Hard Knocks kicked off on Tuesday night. What was your thoughts on it and what was your takeaways?
Michael Lombardi
Well, I love Tomlin. I mean I could listen to Tomlin, read him, read a, read his shopping list and feel motivated and ready to play. I mean he's just tremendous. But I thought what he showed in that game, what he showed in that clip was showing the players what it was going to take to win the game and how to win the game. And the respect for the opponent and what they needed to do. I think that's one of the most important meetings on Wednesday, when the head coach stands in front of the team and goes over the points of emphasis for what has to happen on Sunday. Every Sunday you got to play a different game. You can't play the same game you played last week. And every Sunday presents a different challenge. You know what I said? Zach Taylor said we're going to throw the ball against Pittsburgh and we're going to do something that other people. No, you're not beating Pittsburgh if you're going to throw it all the time. Because T.J. watts going to do exactly what he did. He strip sacked. So if you want to beat Pittsburgh, you're going to have to punch him in the mouth. You're going to show you can punch him. And that's why Cincinnati, as the game went on, what happens? Football is like boxing. The longer, the longer the fight goes, the person who has more strength and power wins the fight. That's what happened in that game. The longer it went. Pittsburgh wore you down. And you talk about soft, Cincinnati soft. I'm not saying their players are soft. Their coaching and style of play is soft. So I think what it demonstrated is exactly what I thought it was. Pittsburgh's a tough minded team. You got to give Arthur Smith a ton of credit. I think he's done a remarkable job of fixing the quarterback, fixing their offense. And then Tomlin just understands what it takes to win on Sunday. And the clip of him talking to Pickens about how we're going to need you later in the game is exactly why he's great.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And I'll be excited to see how they continue to roll with it because Steelers were the only team to win in the whole division for that particular episode. So I think it wasn't as easy to show everybody, especially after losses, because NFL Films doesn't want to dunk on teams whenever they're losing or whatever the case is. So I'm going to need Tomlin every episode though. I think everyone, you know, because sometimes with these hard knocks, they get creative. They do. And they start, you know, bouncing around. It's like, hey, but you know what?
Michael Lombardi
You know, I think what Tomlin does a great job with Pat. I think Tomlin takes the complex and makes it really simple. He boils it down to where the viewer and the players can see it perfectly. And that's the mark of a great leader. That's the mark of somebody who can take the complex and make it simple. And that's where he's so good. And he uses metaphors to do it and he can drive home those points. And you could see the team was in perfect harmony with what he's saying. And the most important thing is, and Chuck knows this too, is does the team play the way the coach wants it to play?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Michael Lombardi
Does the team have the personality of the head coach? See, this is what's happened to the NFL. We have too many guys calling plays that are head coaches. Their teams don't have a personality. Pittsburgh has one.
Pat McAfee
So does Detroit. So does Detroit, so does Baltimore. Yeah, I believe Baltimore has personality. They're trying to figure it out a little bit, though. Con Man's got a question for you.
Con Man
Yeah, Alamo, what'd you think about Lamar's comments after the game? He said his mom cussed him out, saying that he's got run a little bit more. There were some plays we were showing yesterday from AQ Shipley in the trenches that there were some lanes. But he's also trying to let you know routes develop for his guys so he can still sling the pill around. What do you think about Baltimore right now and do you think their bye week is one of the best placed bye weeks in all of the NFL because of the fact that they can figure out what they need to do to close out this season? Right.
Michael Lombardi
Well, they gave up seven points. I mean, Tucker's missed extra point in the two field goals. That hurts whenever you're playing in a game and it hurts momentum and I think that was a problem. Plus they get penalized way too much. I think it's the perfect time for a buy for them. And look, Lamar is going to play better than he did in that game. Their offense has to play better. But I think what happens to them is sometimes in these games they get a little bit impatient. It didn't happen at the Charger game. When they got behind, they were able to stay the course. But when teams take away what they do best and make them play left handed, they can't have drop passes like they had. They had two great throws to Aguilar that were as good as any throw in the league. And you know, he just didn't. And Aguilar didn't make the catch. So to me, that becomes a problem. I think to me, Baltimore is still a team that I don't want to play because they are getting better defensively. And that's been the concern about them all year is are they good enough defensively, can they cover well enough? And I think we saw that they did a better job. They held them to 118 yards passing. I wouldn't give up on Baltimore yet. Now, maybe Pittsburgh is going to win the north, but Baltimore can come back. They've got to figure out this Tucker thing because John Harbaugh's right. There's not a better kicker on the street than Tucker right now. But they got to get his confidence back because I think if he goes out there in a game in January at 45 yards and it's windy, we're not as certain he's going to make it as we once were.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I hope he battles through it mentally. But everything we're saying about this Baltimore team, and obviously Tucker has to get back, right? And hopefully we'll see Lamar do Lamar shit, because that's fun. And it feels like Lamar wants to do that, especially against the Giants coming up. That's fun.
Con Man
Look out.
Pat McAfee
That's. Especially if Dex. He's going to get him, you know, Then here we go. We're off and running. They have a Ram truck in the backfield, too. Two of them. Yeah, two of them.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Patrick Ricard and Derek Henry. So, Diesel, I. Yeah, a couple 2500. Heavy duty.
Con Man
That's right.
Pat McAfee
And whenever they decide to hit that gas pedal, third, fourth quarter. It's all right, Lambo, last question here. Speaking of random, I do believe there is a Colorado representative in the hashtag Ram truck competition today. Chuck has a question for you about that.
Chuck Pagano
Hey, so let's pivot away from pro football to college football. And the Colorado Buffaloes. Travis Hunter. Put your GM hat on. Okay, Lambo, I don't know how much you studied Travis at this point. I spent the last week, week and a half, watching him on both sides of the ball and breaking down mostly him as a defensive back. And. And this guy is a rare, rare, rare talent. I mean, he is a freak. He's got every. I think if you're going to go find the best shutdown man, press man, corner in college football, it's him. I know he's electric on the offensive side. If you're picking, you have. He's sitting there on the board. Okay, and you're going to draft this kid? Are you playing? Are you drafting him as an offensive player or defense? Corner, white out of corner.
Michael Lombardi
I'm going to draft him as a defensive player because he might score five touchdowns intercepting passes. His hands are that good. He's never out of balance. When you watch him play defense, the guy's always in position to catch the ball. And defender. One of the things defensive backs have to have. Everybody talks about vertical speed. Yeah, that's really important. But you have to have great balance to be able to change direction and not have wasted motion. And this kid does it effortlessly. It's really remarkable how good. And then let's add in his conditioning. He plays all the plays on offense, he plays all the plays on defense, and he never gets tired. And he plays just as good in the fourth quarter as he does in the first quarter. I mean, so to me, I'm going to play him on defense because I want to put him on whoever the second best receiver is on the team and just take him out and I'll double the first one. But I think to me, the fact that he can make plays on the ball, you know, that's the key. You know, most of the times the defensive backs drop passes instead of intercepting. And I think he could. We saw that with Bland last year for the Cowboys. He had five interceptions for touchdowns. That makes a huge difference in your team. It turns the game over. I think he's going to come in the league and play defense, and I don't think people are going to challenge him very often. Once you watch him on tape, there'll.
Pat McAfee
Be a package for offense, though. Obviously they'll have a couple harder.
Michael Lombardi
We did that with Woodson, Chuck, remember we did that with Charles, was really. Charles could have been that kind of player, too.
Chuck Pagano
Absolutely.
Michael Lombardi
You know, Woodson was really good as a returner.
Chuck Pagano
Don't you think it's harder to find cover corners like this dude than it is receivers right now?
Michael Lombardi
I think it's the hardest thing to find because, I mean, everybody gets labeled, you're a cover corner and then they don't cover everybody. But this kid cover anybody?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he's. And you talk about his conditioning. It's not just like he's playing the same way and forth. He's a juice guy for the team. He is a juice guy for the offense, He's a juice guy for the defense. Juice guy on the sideline. He's got cell.
Chuck Pagano
He's like, oh, my God.
Pat McAfee
He is like a. Some building is going to get very, very lucky whenever he gets added into it.
Con Man
I mean, in overtime against what? Baylor, he forced that fumble to win the game.
Pat McAfee
Tackle.
Con Man
Yeah. And that was an overtime.
Pat McAfee
Perfect form, too. Perfect. Lower shoulder, head out of the side. Right to the ball.
Chuck Pagano
Joseph. And reaction. He does play a little bit of his own. They play a little cover, too. And he has his eyes in the backfield and he Just feels routes and he breaks on balls and intercepts them. They throw a bubble screen his way. He comes out of nowhere, beats the wide receiver block and saws this guy's outside, fucking leg off. Cuts him in half.
Pat McAfee
He's so good, dude. And then he came up to game day at Penn State and, like, obviously everybody wanted photos with him. He's like super megastar. So you're getting a superstar who doesn't drink, doesn't smoke.
Ty Schmidt
No drink, no red flags, loves ball.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What a genius. Hey, let's make sure we're happy for him, though, if we're around him.
Con Man
Amen.
Pat McAfee
A lot of good things are taking place there. Let's make sure we're celebrating that. Hey, lombo, quick pick. 10 seconds.
Michael Lombardi
I like green bay tonight. I take the three and a half on Green Bay tonight. I think it's a field goal game.
Pat McAfee
I think it's a three right now. Do you still like it?
Michael Lombardi
I still like it. I like Green Bay. I mean, Matt Lafleur, I think he's 19 and 2 when he's a three point dog or less.
Pat McAfee

Pat McAfee
Wonderful. We're so lucky. We get to talk about it every single day. The toxic tables here at Boston. Connor in at Ty Schmidt. Big one for your packers tonight.
Ty Schmidt
Big game tonight.
Pat McAfee
Ty is an owner of the Packers. He's got a piece of paper, and he paid 700 bucks for that back in the day.
Ty Schmidt
I didn't pay for it. It was gifted to me. But someone paid. Yeah. 700 bucks worth or so.
Pat McAfee
Well, congrats to you. Yeah. Getting gifted a team.
Ty Schmidt
I don't like that.
Pat McAfee
I know. That'd be cool.
Ty Schmidt
Can you imagine that? Unbelievable.
Pat McAfee
That'd be so much fun.
Michael Lombardi
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Think about you just living your life, walking around, and you just get a majority share of an NFL team out of nowhere.
Ty Schmidt
Unbelievable.
AP Tony
Cool.
Pat McAfee
That'd be so cool.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, it was.
Pat McAfee
You didn't get a majority share?
Ty Schmidt
No, no.
Pat McAfee
Have you ever been able to, like, even mail your thoughts in? Is there a. I think the.
Ty Schmidt
The. Yeah, I think every year there's like a. There's like a owners meeting, if you will. And it's basically where they kind of just open the gates of Lambeau and let everybody come in, and it's freaking fracking awesome. Exactly. And pal around and. Hey, you know, I don't know, there might be something, like. Because you're an owner, guess what? We're gonna give you 10% off one item at the pro shop.
Pat McAfee
Oh, really? Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, I. I don't know, because I haven't been up to Green Bay since I've been an owner of the team. You know, I like to keep my. My thoughts from afar and look kind of let the boys.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Your hands off owner.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly. The boots on the ground, you judge.
Pat McAfee
Definitely judging them.
Ty Schmidt
Without a doubt. Without a doubt.
Pat McAfee
Hands off.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
Like an angel investor.
Ty Schmidt
That's a good way of putting it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You're just kind of watching, judging, but not really being a part of the solutions.
Ty Schmidt
No. At the end of the day, you're.
Pat McAfee
More of a problem driven owner for the Green Bay Packers. Exactly.
Ty Schmidt
It's up to you guys to fix it. I'm going to give my thoughts, I'm going to tell you how I feel. But at the end of the day.
Pat McAfee
That'S what this piece of paper had. I'm going to be around a lot longer than you are.
Ty Schmidt
That's right.
Pat McAfee
How many owners are there of the Green Bay Pack crackers? Do we know?
Ty Schmidt
A lot. And I think what they do is, you know, like, there's only so many shares, but then after like a year or so, it's like, guess what, we.
Pat McAfee
Cut these in half.
Ty Schmidt
Shares are opening back up if you want to get back in. Oh, yeah, I love it.
Pat McAfee
You can get another piece of paper if you spend another.
Con Man
Dude, get a bunch.
Pat McAfee
This is one of the best rackets going. This is one of the. This is like over in Scotland. When they sell the piece of ground. Bingo. And you can become like a sir or landlord or a landlord. Lord. Lord. I believe Lord Zito is Lord Zito because he owns land in Scotland and it's just little square chunk. And they took a picture of it and they sent it to him and they said, this is the land that you own. Back when they used to sell stars. Remember they were selling stars?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
People could buy a star and a picture of it would get sent to you and it'd be like, here's your baby star.
Con Man
Check it out.
Pat McAfee
And you look up. It's hard to find, you know, so you really just got to only look at that photo. I also have a star. Yep. Bingo. Obviously guys in. Obviously guy owns land and the sky, but he could also own Green Bay Packers. It is a good racket. We have no owner. You know, who is the people who do what? Everybody just send us money. For what? Nothing. It's like nil. You guys are paying nil deals. There's really no return. You guys aren't even getting like a parking spot anywhere, right? No, no.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, I literally, like I said, I get absolutely nothing out of it other than. And I don't even know where the piece of paper is. What? It's at my mom's house somewhere. Maybe it didn't. Never made the move to Indy with me.
Pat McAfee
There are currently 537,000 stockholders, owners of the Green Bay packers. And there have been six stock sales. 1923, 1935, 1950, 97, 2011, in 2021. And obviously we know that our generation of people throughout the history of the NFL, we are going to expedite those more than anybody else. Now granted, There was a 12 year difference in the first one. That was trying to get the team off the ground. Yeah, I assume. But from 35 to 50, that's 15 years. 50 to 97, that's 47 years. Then we get to 2011, it's 14 years later, then it's 10 years later. Let's assume that's going to be five years later and that's going to be two years later. And then guess what? Every year you're getting an opportunity. And that's what our generation of people do. You know, we have kind of manipulated systems to our own benefit, more so than anybody. And why would you not if you were the back. If you can get somebody to send in a few hundred dollars for absolutely just a piece, you're buying a piece of paper.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Put it in your basement, frame it, put it in, you know, put it above the bar in your house. Pretty cool.
Pat McAfee
And then packers fans, now I heard reproduction rates are going down amongst humans, which I guess is a big problem. So we hope everybody chooses to have kids. If you have the ability to have kids and kids are awesome and all that shit. But whenever kid packers fans are born, what do you got to gift them? Well, this kid's going to be a Packer owner. Boom. That's a never ending supply. You could sell ocean water pretty much is what the packers have been able to do. And you feel like you're a part of it.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, without a doubt. I will bequeath my ownership to my daughter when she is of age. And yeah, and we'll kind of just, we'll keep this thing going for eons.
Pat McAfee
And 350 bucks, I guess for a share. And then if you were to do that times 5,537,460 if they want to re up and get another one.
Ty Schmidt
5.2 million is how many actual shares of stock they've sold though. So it's.
AP Tony
I assume they weren't $350 in 1920.
Ty Schmidt
Probably not, but you get inflation, send.
Pat McAfee
Emails out to all these people that own them, say, hey, another round.
Ty Schmidt
Get back in 350. Your bathrooms looking a little bare Looks like you might need one of these puppies.
Pat McAfee
Hey, good for the packers doing that. What a business.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, smart.
Pat McAfee
What a business. And there's. Well, Mark Murphy is currently the president, right? Acting president. But there's a board that does all the voting too. For everything. That's a beautiful thing up there.
Con Man
Got a claim to the throne.
Pat McAfee
That's right. You need to get in the boardroom. You've been around a long time. You've been gifted ownership a long time ago. Yeah, you're right. There needs to be a little make good for your ownership over there.
Ty Schmidt
But you know, I'm just kind of waiting until I'm called.
Pat McAfee
Oh yeah.
Chuck Pagano
What would you take for that piece of paper? What was that share? Is it 350? Is that what Priceless?
Ty Schmidt
What do you mean? What would I take if someone were to offer me like if it's stock.
Chuck Pagano
And you have a share and you say okay, I want to. I want to sell.
Ty Schmidt
350 bucks is what. If you give me 1000 bucks, I'll give it to you.
Pat McAfee
That's really nice of you. Yeah, that feels like good returns for you. But who knows with this packers team yodel yodeling, that stock is on the rise. Yeah. Especially with Jordan Love LaFleur getting all his LA floors publicly from us and many others for the first time. Long time. That's not only 350 bucks. That's a lifetime of memories.
Ty Schmidt
It is, Chuck.
Con Man
Buy that.
Pat McAfee
Chuck. You should be an owner.
Con Man
You should buy that from Ty right now.
Pat McAfee
Thousand bucks.
Ty Schmidt
Thousand bucks.
AP Tony
Thousand bucks.
Chuck Pagano
Things are looking.
Pat McAfee
I'll sell you one too. I got one. Yeah, didn't you get one too?
Con Man
I have one. I think I might actually have two.
Pat McAfee
Oh, maybe three.
Con Man
Yeah, maybe three. And I got one of those stars.
Pat McAfee
Thousand bucks a pop, Chuck. What do you think? See, this is what happens with order. I don't like.
Chuck Pagano
Wait, what'd you say when the set the next sale was like three or four years, right?
Ty Schmidt
I think it is.
Chuck Pagano
Why would I give you guys one.
Pat McAfee
Clowns three 26 or they went down to five.
Ty Schmidt
I believe I. I did. I don't know if that's confirmed but I did read that that. Hey, it's coming.
Pat McAfee
So it they are splitting from 10 to 5. That's only going down dude. That's going to be every other you would assume. Yeah, very soon.
Con Man
By then it's going to be four grand a pop though. So you're getting right now.
Pat McAfee
Well, depending upon if they win tonight or not tonight. Tonight.
Chuck Pagano
Really? What if it could either Lose the.
Pat McAfee
Lions stock drops do you want to sell it? Do you want to sell it back to the Green Bay Packers? What an interesting little business they're running. What was that? They're the only ones that had opened their books, right?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And was it $200 million in real estate they were making a year or something like that?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
There's that house for sale right down the street. I know I was bought that over like 875,000 as soon as it came across. My.
Ty Schmidt
Can you imagine though? I mean I've looked already at what people are like Airbnb and houses for around the draft for two, two nights. Like you over the course of a season, you could make 3x what you buy for that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. We would turn it into a tailgate place.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
That people could run out.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Just quickly. Just like that.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Soon as it came across my feed, if there would have been a link for me to purchase outright, I would have done it. I literally, soon as I saw it, look sweet.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Locations right in the garage door right there and then inside the garage, it's like just already set up for like a tailgate thing. And then Lambo is just right there behind the front yard.
Pat McAfee
And that's what makes Green Bay so special. Yeah. Obviously we think it is a little bit of a racket, you know, a ruse. Quite a move by them to sell. But literally it is. It does feel like it is the neighborhood's team, like it is our community's team. There's real ownership feel out of it all. And what a perfect place to play. Wish the game was there tonight know because we get another snow globe but instead we got a perfect temperature inside Ford Field. Up air in Detroit Rock, Michigan. What a game tonight. 1/2 of the Hammer Cowboys AP Tony's here. Where's the money was sitting at 58% on the Lions favored by three tonight. Is it still there?
AP Tony
57% move to.
Pat McAfee
Oh, some people moved to the Packers. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who's the all time leading tackler for the grand Green Bay Packers, Mr. A.J. hawk Hawker. When you signed your deal with the packers, how many shares of the Green Bay packers did you negotiate into there? How many pieces of paper did you get that said you're an owner alongside your what, $450 million deal that you signed two CBAs? No, I.
Gumpy
Well, unfortunately, I don't know if anyone's ever tried to negotiate that into their contract because you showed what they've only come up for what, six different Times where you can actually. They open it up to where you can actually.
Pat McAfee
I have some good news, though. It was 1 6. It's about to be 10 in a shorter amount of time than ever before. Those are going to become available, I think. Not a bad play. Maybe get a piece of paper.
Gumpy
I mean, is there any other sports team in the world that has a similar situation? Like, it's very unique when you actually look at it.
Pat McAfee
Very unique. Very much like a shared feel, a community feel. It creates a family feel. I'd assume for the packers, you've obviously lived it a lot more than I have. Living in their community for a very long time. Just getting a chance to visit there a few times. It's sweet. It's like a mo. It is out of a movie. And I think the. The community ownership is a big part of it. Gumpy soccer. Is there a soccer team that's run this way? Richmond overseas. Rexam's kind of like that. But they got multiple owners.
Ty Schmidt
Not like, not this many.
Pat McAfee
That's. Yeah. Any towns own their team? Like pay a tax and run the team?
AP Tony
Manchester United used to be like that.
Pat McAfee
And then the Glazers came in and took it over. The fans were very pissed. Still are actually. Still hate the Glazers. Oh, yeah. Jay Glazer gets gone. It's not me. I don't own the Manchester United nor the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And he does not.
Ty Schmidt
He does not have a lift. No lift.
Pat McAfee
You just need stronger than you've ever done.
Ty Schmidt
No. No lift.
Pat McAfee
Close. Do you hear it, though, Chuck? Do you hear it?
Chuck Pagano
Oh, yes.
Michael Lombardi
I don't know.
Ty Schmidt
Now you're making a mockery of it. Knock it off.
Pat McAfee
Stop at here. That is what we don't need. AJ we haven't really gotten your take on this. And whenever you were with the packers, the Lions weren't the super bowl threat that they are now. But obviously we've all seen and respected the hell out of what has gone on with the Lions. Our conversation the whole first hour. And it's not a doubt, it's just an actual wonder. That is the front seven for the Detroit Lions are so banged up. And this also. Reeder and Pascal are also out. And with the way that packers team can play if they just hand that thing off to Josh Jacobs and Jordan Love even is able to take advantage of what comes off the play action or anything else like that. This feels like this could be a Packers night. They're underdogs by three. How do you see it going? As a Packers legend and obviously non Biased in this thing. But what is your tale of the tape this evening as you look ahead?
Gumpy
Yeah, I mean, I'm a Giant fan of Josh Jacobs and what he does. I mean, if you watch some of the slow mo clips of him, of him juking people out, how hard he runs, everything about him, I think tonight, if they want to win, yeah, I think they ride him. I think he could. He could have a giant night, especially on that turf. Probably feels so good. You're coming from Green Bay. You're outside, it's so cold. When you step on, you put your. Sometimes I think you forget what it's like to play in decent weather when you play in the cold a lot. And when you practice in the cold, all of a sudden you got your uniform on, you're in like, man, I feel pretty fast on this field turf, bud. And I think that's how Josh Jacobs and the rest of the squad might feel a night.
Pat McAfee
That's how Toradol feels, by the way, for those that are asking, Toradol is like, your body's just warm immediately, you know, like, that is what Toradol does. It just makes you looser. It makes you feel looser. I don't know if you actually are. It just makes you feel that way. And then obviously the next day you're going to catch up with it. And you're right, because even in those indoor practice facilities, sometimes the heating doesn't work. So, like, they make it cold a lot.
Gumpy
We would practice inside sometimes when they would open up the vent, so it's pulling all the cold air through because you're. And I'm like, this is actually colder than it is outside right now.
Pat McAfee
And open the garage. Open the garages and these things. So now you're getting a gusty, indoor, freezing cold thing. Yeah, you're 100% right. But then if you do that, obviously it's huge space. So, like, the heating and air, how good is it? It might be chilly in there as well. Like, I went up to call the Packers Lions game and it was at the packers. And I got to watch the walk through. The day before, that indoor facility was free. It was down the road. First of all, remember, we've all talked about that. You got to travel through the community. But then when I walk, it was freezing in the indoor facility. And then I. I think to myself, I do remember, like, cold days, cold practices, cold practices. And then we get inside and just like how it's almost like you. It's the beginning of the season again, you're like your body almost feels like. It's like first day, first everything. It's like, wow, this is just so much better. Which ties into the College Football Playoff conversation, you know, which could come into play here whenever these first rounds kick off with the SEC going up to the Big Ten and vice versa. But I didn't even think about that for tonight. You guys probably look forward to getting up to Detroit or to Minnesota late in those years.
Gumpy
Yeah, every once in a while. And I mean, yeah, when I was there, obviously, Aaron is slinging all over the place. I'm like, we're pretty good turf football team indoors, without the elements. This guy can really throw it around.
Pat McAfee
Chuck, how much are you believe in that? Obviously you coach in Miami for the Hurricanes. You've coached Wyoming, I believe, or whatever the hell it is. Boise, cold as shit. You've obviously been all over it. How do you feel about the weather and the impact that it has. We'll talk about. For the College Football Playoff situation here. How do you feel that will impact everything?
Chuck Pagano
I think it's real. I mean, you can talk all you want about mindset. I mean, just look at the Dolphins and look at their record when they go play in 40 degree or less. It's just an example. So you're talking about the Hurricane. They go to Syracuse. That's indoors. They still lose the game. All right. But that's a real deal because, hey, it's going to be cold until you get out there and it's like, okay, you walk into Lambeau Field and you've been in South Florida, you know, practicing or wherever. Jacksonville. And then all of a sudden you're playing in those elements. Hey, this is going to be fun. Hey, get some broth. The broth is great. You know, pregame that broth is the best broth there is in the history of broth at Lamb. But once you get out there and shit starts cracking, you can't feel your toes, your fingers. Playing in laramie 70, 220 foot elevation.
Pat McAfee
Where's that at 30?
Chuck Pagano
Wyoming, when I played in.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so that's right when I showed.
Chuck Pagano
You and those California teams, It was the old wax we had San Diego State and Hawaii. They come to town, they couldn't breathe number one and number two. You catch them in December, you know, and it's 32 below wind chill. That's for. That's some real. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Were you still going head first in the piles whenever.
Chuck Pagano
Oh, yeah.
Con Man
Frozen helmet.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
What was that John Runyon special? That is true.
Chuck Pagano
I used to launch too Gump. I mean, it's the only way I can get guys done. The ground was top. My helmet.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And obviously that was.
Ty Schmidt
That was back then.
Pat McAfee
That was good back then. Now we don't do that. Speaking of that stuff, the guardian cap has lost a home on one player's head. We mentioned it. I think it's been a couple weeks now. A Chan running back for the Miami Dolphins had a guardian cap for a while to start season. Obviously, big smart, he took it off. He was asked about it. Here's his answer. Well, they went another season, man. Just. I mean, I wear it to begin.
Ty Schmidt
Because, you know, it was my mom.
Pat McAfee
But I just feel like, you know.
John Kuhn
I didn't need no more.
Pat McAfee
I got a better helmet, so I just feel I didn't need to wear. Oh, so did you change your helmet? Okay, what was it then, what was it now? Or what is it now? It's like the same. Just like, I got more cushion inside. Okay. I love that. He said because of my mom. Okay. You know, my mom's saying, hey, we can save the brain. Why are we choosing not to do that? And obviously, mom still being around, still being that powerful is a great thing. So we have nothing but respect for that. But it does feel like whenever we were told that there's a helmet that is equal to a helmet and a guardian cap, the way it has been built, we wondered if the guardian cap was going to survive. It has for a couple people. But this is good for the evolution of these helmets, A.J. i think, you know, I think it's good for the evolution of this whole thing.
Gumpy
Well, just think of the evolutions. Have you ever seen, like, I know guys that bring me and show me their helmet from Ohio State in 1968. Like, from where we've come now, from back then, it's a different world, what those guys were wearing. So, yeah, of course it's always going to evolve and get better and better. But I don't know what's like the ceiling. What's the final greatest helmet? Because they get crazier and crazier looking with different weird things and growing out of the forehead. Now I feel like. I think that's the one that's the guardian cap situation, the one where it's real heavy in the front and I think it has a heavy pad in the back as well.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And the position specific helmets. They talked about how you might see a quarterback with a helmet that literally just goes like this. Because a lot of the concussions that come from quarterbacks, when they get tackled, and then their heads hit the ground like that. So if we add a little bit of a buffer zone there, that could potentially help the impact on the head. But then I think the question always goes back to, like, are some heads more likely to get concussed than others? Yes.
Gumpy
Yes. I don't. That's my opinion. But I absolutely believe that.
Pat McAfee
And can you test for that? So should we be working on also the testing to figure out whose heads are more likely to get concussed than others? For instance, this guy. You can see it through your screen every day. That is a block head. Okay, that right there, what you're seeing right there, you see the jawline, you see the. You see the chin, you see that. That thing probably has thick skull. This is probably a thick skull. If you're just looking at it, you probably think to yourself, this guy. Well, turns out zero documented concussions played in the CTE era, like at middle linebacker, fullbacks, that is. This is literally. But his head, we would assume, has a little thicker skull than others just by looking at it. A.J. no offense.
Gumpy
No, that's a great compliment. Thank you very much.
Pat McAfee
And also, saying to somebody, you have a massive head is a compliment from people who have massive heads. That's like one of the first things. So I think if we could figure out the testing for who is more likely to get concussions than people that aren't. I don't know how you do that. Science. Figure it out. I think that it. With the evolution of the helmets, I think now we're on to a true, like, beneficial future as opposed to just like, well, this helmet's gonna work and then play a whole season. It's like. Well, it turns out that helmet did not work as much as we thought it was gonna work. Well, for who, though? Like, for everybody or for some people? You know, it's a. It's a never ending one of these. And I believe in brain trauma being terrible for humans. Some sports have them, though. Boxing, mixed martial arts, combat sports, physical sports, violent sports, hockey. A study just came out. But that's also, like, a part of sport. So if we can figure out how to make it better, I think we're all on board. But we're also on the same page of, like, never going to be able to remove it completely.
Con Man
No way.
Pat McAfee
Like, that is just a. That's a. That's a. That's a very stupid goal. I think that will never be accomplished. And I don't think that should be the expectations. But I like that we're working to get better on it.
Con Man
Well, into what you guys are saying, like, head size should be a thing. Like, I don't care if you got added to the combine. Like, we talk about Cam Hayward's head all the time on here. He definitely has a lower percentage chance of getting concussion versus a TUA just because of strictly head size.
Pat McAfee
And I don't know what to his head size is, do we?
Con Man
I don't know either, but I know that on the scale of normal head to Cam Hayward, he's not at the.
Ty Schmidt
Cam Hayward should be head weight.
Gumpy
Should be a head.
Pat McAfee
Head weight. Because then that would imply more bone structure than brain structure right in there.
Chuck Pagano
Because you don't think somebody's looked at that. And we're sitting here saying, okay, it's the head size and the weight.
Con Man
We're just spitballing.
Chuck Pagano
All right, well, you're just throwing out stuff. Con man. Like, you should see what the. See you know, what I played in.
Pat McAfee
And so I'm looking at your head right now.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Don't want to say it.
Chuck Pagano
And you. You know the helmet, right?
Pat McAfee
Nobody.
Chuck Pagano
I don't have a big head.
Pat McAfee
Okay, agreed. Concur.
Chuck Pagano
You have a concussion, the peanut head. But that helmet, like, yeah, moms back in the day didn't give an F cuz they let us all play.
Pat McAfee
Thank you for doing that.
Chuck Pagano
And we had a ride. Ride L. And it had rope in it with a donut. It was called a suspension helmet. Anybody have one of those?
Pat McAfee
Uncomfortable?
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, can you imagine? Hey, here you go.
Ty Schmidt
Knock those.
Chuck Pagano
And we were.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, head straight.
Gumpy
Are you trying to go back to that, Chuck?
Chuck Pagano
No, sir. And then we went to the bike helmet and had the pads in there. And then you get in cold weather and they froze on you.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Chuck Pagano
And that felt good.
Pat McAfee
Getting the helmet on and off. I will say, A.J. you played a lot more football than me. Obviously grew up in it. Putting the helmet on and off in cold always sucks, right? There's not like a time, no matter what.
Gumpy
That's why I go out to initial warmups in Green Bay. We'd be out there 12 minutes or whatever it is. I would go directly to sauna and put my helmet in there to warm up before he went out and ran.
Pat McAfee
So. Because every time I'd be putting my helmet on, it would hurt so bad and be so uncomfortable. But I couldn't show it, you know, because I'm punter. Can't.
Gumpy
Oh, you'll bruise your ears. I bruise my ears and stuff. When you're putting a cold one on.
Pat McAfee
And off and I got a big. I got a rather large dome. So like putting that thing on. Gotta do the pool.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Gotta do the pull out. But never gonna be able to pull out enough. And then the head is gonna get. And then the ears are getting bent down. I feel like I'm getting cauliflower here. And then. All right, punt. Period. Down. I'm like, I can't because I. I don't gotta actually hit anybody. But this sucks. If we could. If we could figure out how to put this thing on a little bit better, that would be fantastic. I think what he was talking about though is he said there's more padding on the inside of the helmet. I think it's probably one of those bigger ones. I wonder if they're more comfortable to put on inside.
AP Tony
You'd think so.
Pat McAfee
What do you think? Gate?
Gumpy
Probably they gotta be. They gotta be much more comfortable.
Pat McAfee
I would think you would hope those.
AP Tony
Things used to because we had that like plastic rubberish with the bladder inside the ones now have you look inside, it looks like like soft paddock.
Pat McAfee
There was a guy that had styrofoam. I think he was pitching. Oh, styrofoam.
Gumpy
Really?
Pat McAfee
There was some sort of styrofoam race like racing helmet. It was here in Indy. It was when you were the coach, the. I remember you had a new idea, a new concept. And this, this guy was Simpson. Maybe in the racing community if we were to look up like racing suits or racing helmets, the last name Simpson, I think he came up. He was a big Colts fan, came up with a new helmet idea concept. And I guess he was a fan of mine from my stuff and I didn't have to use it as much so he pitched me the helmet to wear it. What's his name? Bill Simpson. Yeah. Tackless, football, concussions with new helmet. And they were using like some race stuff. Those things look sweet with football stuff. They kind of pieced it together and I wore it for a while. I don't know if I was supposed to or if it was like okay or not. Super light.
Gumpy
Didn't feel off season or. You were for game gay?
Pat McAfee
I put that on in a game?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Come on.
Gumpy
Did he get licensed through the league or anything? How that work?
Pat McAfee
I don't think so.
Chuck Pagano
No, they do. They did it up and.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think so. Yeah. I think it just sweet. I don't remember how it came about. No. I might have been practicing the off season.
Gumpy
Did you ever hit anybody with it or you ever run your head into the wall? And check it out.
Pat McAfee
I remember thinking I shouldn't. You know, whatever it was on my head, I remember thinking that.
John Kuhn
But.
Gumpy
Oh really? You didn't feel comfortable?
Pat McAfee
Sometimes like those lighter. I remember the lighter ones though. Sometimes lighter is like better. Like they got carbon fiber. Like this guy's a racing helmet guy. I assume he did have some sort of breakthrough, but I, I didn't remember my brain comprehending how this was going to be good. I, if I do recall, I think it was OTAs. I don't think I hit anybody. I don't think it was during the game. Cuz to get through the game they would have had to go through the whole. They would have to get marked up, get. Okay. Get a. To get out there. So there's no way it was that. But yeah, I put that helmet on, I was like super light and I was like, I don't know, this isn't protecting me. Is it comfortable? I'm like, yeah, yeah, it's not pretty. Too comfortable almost. I almost feel like this is a little bit of a hat. But there's been people trying to perfect the helmet for a long time and I think it's because of obviously their genuine care of athlete and sport and competition. But the amount of money, if you were to figure out the helmet could be forever. And all these companies know that age all of them. And it sounds like Achan's got a company that has been able to kind of piece together the two best helmet, best guardian. Let's piece it into one. There's only a matter of time for everything's like that.
Ty Schmidt
Well, and it'll help to a degree obviously, but to what you were saying about like some people I think are just predisposed to get concussions because like I can't remember if it was the Sunday night game or a couple weeks ago, Josh Allen had one of those where he got hit and his head slammed off the turf and he didn't miss a play. Like Texans. Yeah, the Texans game. And it looked bad. It was like, oh yikes. And he popped right back up and played again. And then it's like, you know, you, you immediately wonder well if that was tua. Like what? You know, just everything that's happened over the last two years. Like how does that play out? So it is just like I think some people are just predisposed to get concussions and other people aren't.
Pat McAfee
I, I, yeah. Just got sent in update the helmet that I was given banned from the NFL.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, Bill Simpson.
Chuck Pagano
Thank God. Someone argued the entire phone Wasn't.
Pat McAfee
But you talk about people having their hits and not the DB yesterday. Yeah. For the Broncos. Who was it went up and got the pick?
Con Man
McMillan.
Ty Schmidt
McMillan.
Pat McAfee
McMillan goes up and gets that pick. He flat backs. Okay. Takes a big bump, then his head bang, right off the ground, and he gets up and runs. We've seen that same exact thing happen to people, and lights out, it's over. Yeah. He ends up scoring touchdown to cover for the Broncos.
Ty Schmidt
And that's in Denver, where it's probably cold. That field might be a little bit harder, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Right here, he. Boom. He has that little whiplash head thing that we've seen so many times. Very scary. Very, very scary. It's scary on grass, it's scary on ice. It's scary in any sport that it happens whenever a head hit. Professional wrestling, whenever you see somebody that is never good, but apparently some. This guy's head okay with it?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You know, how do you figure it out? We don't know, but we appreciate that it is getting figured out. Speaking of figured out, Kevin Warren, former Big Ten commissioner. Now, the Big Ten is a great conference.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And whenever he was leading it, it was a.
AP Tony
He tried to kill football.
Pat McAfee
That's AP Town. He has an AP vote at the end of the year.
AP Tony
That's facts. He said, we're not playing football.
Pat McAfee
You know, killing football would. Would mean like, kind of trying to make it not exist ever again. He definitely came out during the COVID alongside the PAC12. But a few days after, the Ivy League made the same announcement and said, we're not playing football. Okay. Football season has been suspended because of COVID And obviously the dangers and risks are a PAC 12 Sister Brother Conference is going to do the same thing. And Ivy Leagues. And then Greg Sankey came out a week later and said, we're playing football in the sec and that's how this whole thing's going to go. So then there's big 10 teams trying to get into the SEC. Okay. Trying to get into the SEC for the COVID season. This is no bullshit. This actually happened. This is. We were in the middle of the entire thing pretty much talking about it. So then Obviously, Kevin Warren, PAC 12. Everybody else, push comes to shove, has to back we. We will play football. Actually, we will play football there a couple of weeks late. Remember, it was a couple of weeks shorter than the SEC season. It was all a bunch of shit. Shortly after that, then Kevin Warren leaves Big Ten. Now he's in charge of the Chicago Bears. So then it's like, okay, so Our viewing as football people after what just took place is a little bit skewed, I think, probably to every business thing he had to do for the Big Ten TV rights deals, all of his positive. The only thing we could think about is this guy didn't want football, and then he had to do football. So does he love football? We don't. We don't know. But he's a smart businessman, obviously good enough to get the Chicago Bears president job. He was designing the feng shui movements like he's John Taffer for the new suite on Hard Knocks. Okay, I think this would be good, dude. I'm like, damn. I didn't know Kevin Warren had that range. I didn't know that was in his bag. Now there's a report that Jim Harbaugh wanted the gig, and Kevin Warren basically said, I got my own guys. Thanks. We'll figure this entire thing out. We got our own shit. Moves along now. Have you seen what Jim Harbaugh has done with the Los Angeles Chargers? You're talking about changing the entire culture. You're talking about changing the entire mindset. You're talking about building a fan base back into believing that they can actually go and win because not only do they have the talent, but they got the team that isn't soft. It's a tough team. It's a together team. Jim Harbaugh's latest move, lunch pails for all the boys in the locker room. Hell, yeah. Video was released of Cameron Dicker, I do believe, the kicker for the Chargers, showcasing his lunch pail to a cell phone. And on there is a bunch of Jim Harbaugh's words. It's a little bit of. A little bit of encouragement. It's a little bit of excitement. And I believe it's just one message. When Jim Harbaugh is not around the boys to be like, hey, this is the type of guys we are, and I'm thankful for it. AJ when you talk about a leader of men in the NFL, everything that Jim Harbaugh has done, and I think you can put mcdc in the same exact way, do it their own way, have great success much quicker than mcdc had it, but have the entire team bought in, it's a beautiful thing. And I love this idea here because this is him still coaching. This isn't just a gift. This is him still coaching, finding a different way to deliver his message. Age.
Gumpy
Yeah. The thing is, like, I think we take it for granted when someone does come in and they turn a team around like this, like mcdc Took a little bit longer than what Harbaugh is doing. But look around, like, it's not easy. There's not many people doing it at a high level on a consistent basis, especially when you come in straight from college and, like, he's doing seems to have everyone and buy in. But if you look around, like, what do you think? For me, at least the common. The common denominator, as people used to say in this situation, is that these guys are authentic. They feel like they're being real. They're not. There's so many coaches, I think, that they get the head gig for the first time. They're go, man, I don't want to lose this thing. So I'm not gonna. I'm gonna change who I am. I'm gonna try to be what I think I should be. And these guys feel like, hey, they're just.
Pat McAfee
They're.
Gumpy
They trust in the process and what they believe in, and they're gonna ride.
Pat McAfee
And I think who they are is natural coaches, natural teachers, natural leaders.
Gumpy
Teachers. Yeah, they're like teachers. The coaches are absolutely teachers. And these guys absolutely know how to do that, know how to get the point across to people every single day.
Pat McAfee
And they're messaging like, that was a message to him, to his team. A lunch pail as a gift. It's like hard hat. That's a message. Bingo. That's exactly what that is. Whenever you watch guys like that, what are your thoughts as a coach for 36 years?
Chuck Pagano
Yeah, I mean, John and Jim grew up in a football. They grew up on the sideline. They grew up in the locker room. They grew up watching their dad do the same stuff.
Pat McAfee
Different coaches, though, right? Jim and John.
Chuck Pagano
Different approach. I mean, they're at the opposite end. I mean, yeah, personality messaging, the whole deal. But same thing, though. You go into building a. You know, John's deal when I went with him in 2008, Harbaugh was, you know, build a Bowley. That was that what we were going to be in Baltimore. We were going to build a Bowley. So it's the same mindset, same messaging, same culture. It's about tough. It's about rolling up your sleeves. It's about going to work. I mean, I love this. And it's to Lombo's point, he says, we got all these offensive guys, these head coaches that are offensive guys that are play callers, and they're so wrapped up in scheming and drawing plays and putting game plans together just on one side of the ball that you're the CEO of the entire team. Okay. Offense, defense, special teams. So guys like Jim, guys like John, that you're going to oversee stuff, but you got time to sit back and say, okay, I'm going to my message, our culture, our identity, the process, our philosophy, that doesn't change. I got to find different ways to keep getting this message across. Here comes the hard hat. Here comes the lunch pail.
Pat McAfee
Here comes the grit chip.
Chuck Pagano
Here comes the grit chip.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
You know, and so those guys that are the head coach and they overseeing everything, they're sitting back and going, okay, we just won another game. We're in a stretch run. We're in the fourth quarter of the season. It's December football, it's January football. What's the next thing I can do? Because I used to sit there and try to brainstorm, had guys try to talk to about, okay, themes, what's the thing. So we tried to keep teaching the same message, just a different way to deliver it.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Chuck Pagano
Different way to say it, but not all. Another sign, another this, another quote or whatever. It was still team, it was still grit, it was still, you know, run the ball, stop the.
Pat McAfee
I like when a team's bought in like that and those are the right things to be bought into. The Chargers obviously are. And Derwin James, after his game winning pick, he was trying to give that ball to mentor and Jim Harbaugh and he actually said, I love you guys. Here, this is for you. And they're like, no, it's your ball. There was a hug on the field. They're all the way in. That Chargers team is dangerous. What are the odds AP tone for them to win a Super Bowl?
AP Tony
I just looked at a book real quick. They are ninth in as far as best odds to win the Super bowl at 30 to 1 plus 3,000.
Pat McAfee
AJ obviously there's teams that we think are playing phenomenal. Like Philadelphia Eagles are a team that are playing phenomenal. The Lions have been able to play phenomenal. Are they going to be able to continue to with all the injuries? We shall see. We will assume yes, until we're proven otherwise. The Chargers have a team, though, all bought in, that is built to beat anybody. Like they could beat anybody on any given day. Like the Eagles run and they're powerful and they're bullies and I respect that. They got weapons all over the place. It's like the way mentors defense is, they try to cancel that. And they're also a physical team. So if you catch them on a playoff game where it's win, move on, lose Go home. It's like Chargers could win against anybody. I, in my eyes, any game, they have the capability to win. I think, personally.
Gumpy
Well, I think you have Justin Herbert. And then if I'm still correct, like, don't they still have the number one scoring defense in the NFL? Is that correct?
Chuck Pagano
Still what D but said yesterday, if.
Gumpy
They'Re in the top five, they then, like, you have Justin Herbert and you have a defense play at that high level, not giving up many points. Yes, you absolutely have a chance. Especially in the playoffs when we know. So, like, different games, different elements can kind of change things to where it can take away some team strengths and everything. Maybe, maybe play into a team like. Like this almost at San Diego Chargers, seeing these awesome unis. But, yeah, they're fun to watch, too.
Pat McAfee
That is the thing about the Chargers. Unis are sick. New facility is sick. Social media team is unbelievable. Best in the league. It is.
Gumpy
It looks like fun, though. It just looks like they're having fun. Like, that's what's cool, too. Like. Like it's not the old. We're going to grind it out coming every single day. And, you know, I show up and it's dark. I leave when it's dark. This is my whole life. Like, these guys. Yeah, they're doing that, but they seem to be having fun and have, like, a good outlook on it, which I.
Pat McAfee
Guess you got to compliment the culture that they have. Who's gm?
Gumpy
Yeah, of course.
Chuck Pagano
George.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Okay. Baltimore. Right. So they got the guys in there, the carryovers. They've been a part of so many heartbreaking losses. I think they're like, if this is going to work, we'll buy in. But then the new people there, they find the right people that will buy in. Like, not everybody is going to be able to buy into a. We're tougher than you. Work pale. Our head coach is going to be shirtless and khakis lifting next to you. Like, not every player in the history of the NFL that's a good player would be able to buy into that. They think it was a joke. They would probably mock it, ridicule it. And if you have one of those guys who's a good player that can permeate through the locker room, find other people, young people, whenever things go bad, start to spread. This is not how it normally is. It's not how it's supposed to be. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Instead, though, they've remained like, this is our guy. We love him. And whenever he does something about olives coming out of a jar and everything. We love it, we enjoy it, and that's a beautiful thing. Whenever you create that type of culture, whenever everybody's all in and you got talent, that's dangerous. Dangerous team. And Jim's obviously done.
AP Tony
I think this weekend will go a long way to a lot of people believing them or not because they play Kansas City on Sunday night and they've. Their losses. Some of their losses this year have been to the Ravens, Steelers and Chiefs. A lot of the talk is that they haven't beat anyone yet. So if they can beat the Chiefs this weekend, that'll go a long way.
Pat McAfee
I. Chiefs by four. Okay.
Con Man
Favorable line.
Chuck Pagano
They can clinch, right. The AFC West. Two. Right. Pick them every time, 11th time, 11th or 12th in a row.
Pat McAfee
Think about those Chargers fans. Think about that stat.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Just got set. And then knowing that they got Patrick Mullen for the next 10, 15 homes.
Gumpy
Only 29 years old. Is that right?
Ty Schmidt
I don't think he's. I don't think.
John Kuhn
I think he's 28.
Gumpy
20.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Gumpy
Geez.
Michael Lombardi
Wow.
Pat McAfee
He was 28 whenever we were listed off all his accolades. Yeah, he's 28.
Gumpy
He's not 30, though.
Pat McAfee
He has turned 29. Oh, okay. Yeah. But we rattled off all the things he did before 28, and it was like, oh, there's a Hall of Fame career already, and he's only been in here seven years or whatever the case is. What a freak show over there. And that's why. Even more so for the Chargers. Good for you.
AP Tony
Chiefs have won eight straight division titles.
Pat McAfee
Think about the Chargers fans. Okay?
Con Man
I'm so close.
Pat McAfee
Every. There's so many games, Herbert. If we come back on this one, if we take this, if this guy does this instead of that, we're in it. Then all of a sudden, it comes down to the final game with the Chiefs. Chargers have played the Chief well. Right.
Con Man
I've beaten them in Arrowhead.
Pat McAfee
That's like the Chargers. It's so good for them. And every video that comes out for that building is a good one. I don't see any negative coming out of the Chargers ever, seemingly, since Harbaugh's got.
Chuck Pagano
When you win, too, I mean.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Nice. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Well, I think that they're. They're ahead of schedule. You know, we talked about it like we expected them to, you know, at least be very competitive or make the playoffs this year because of Harbaugh, and he just. He wins. That was going to happen. But. But like anything that happens here on out this year, like, you. Not only is it kind of believable. But like now you're just start like this. This isn't the team, you know, we've talked about. Like, they still need a couple receivers. Like right now they're kind of. They play in LA and everything, but like they're. If JK Dobbins is healthy, like, they're built to go win on the road in the playoffs. Like, they want to run the football and obviously have Herbert throw a couple times, play Action Lad McConkey. But like they're still, you know, like, this isn't the final form of like three years from now. It'll be very interesting to see how good this Chargers team is.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And to your point about that, like, Los Angeles being a destination place for players to want to go play, who knows who they'll be able to pick up? But how many Los Angeles destination guys does Harbaugh want on his team? True.
Con Man
Good question.
Pat McAfee
Like, that's kind of like a. Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
They got a model, they got hurt. They've got the charger box guy, whatever those character traits are.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Chuck Pagano
For their.
Pat McAfee
How about Andrew, by the way, going back to Stanford.
Chuck Pagano
Awesome.
Pat McAfee
I talked to him on Friday night and just like I told him and granted, we were around a lot of Stanford people. I was around a lot of Stanford people very quickly in my life. Very. I mean, they just popped into my life. Andrew, Kobe, Fleener, Griff, Whalen, Goose, Dave. I mean, there's like, pep. There's just so many hard, like, Stanford people dropped into my life quickly. And it's like they're all Stanford guys. Like, you know, they're Stanford guys. These guys are incredibly intelligent. Okay. They're going to be very, very smart dudes. They're going to be tougher guys. Like, they're going to be the tougher, smart nerd guys. And then also love ball. Like, that was. That is what the Stanford guys used to be, I think. And I think they take a lot of pride in what Stanford guys were. And Stanford was able to pull players even if they're being recruited to other places and being like, hey, you're a Stanford guy, you're supposed to be a Stanford guy. Like, they took a lot of pride in that. I. I think he is. I don't want to give away too much, obviously, but, like, I think he has a lot of pride in that and that's who he's going to be trying to find. So, like Stanford charger guy saying, I feel like the Steelers know who they are. I think the Ravens know who they are. I think this Eagles team knows who they are now. I think the Lions know who they are. Packers.
Ty Schmidt
I think so.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think so, too.
Ty Schmidt
I think it was kind of up in the air one Rogers left, but, like, now that LaFleur's kind of like, got his guys in place and he's been able to, like. I think they. They know who they are.
Pat McAfee
That's a whole nother conversation about, like, continuity too. Because whenever you change over a coach or change over anything or anything, it's like, do you still know who you are and are you still who you thought you were? It's like never knowing who you are is where the team is just stuck in.
Chuck Pagano
It's like Caleb Williams coming out saying, oh, this will all be better for this. Have another coach and another playbook. No, you won't. I mean, how dumb is that?
Pat McAfee
How do you feel about that?
AP Tony
He said that?
Chuck Pagano
I mean, how are you going to say something like that?
Pat McAfee
No, not that, but you get it. Like the whole Chicago situation. How do you. How do you feel about the entire Chicago situation?
Chuck Pagano
I just think you go back to the Hail Mary right when it all started to escalate. Four and two, you lose that game, Stevenson does what Stevenson does, you lose that one, you get a block kick, then you have the mismanaged clock. You don't call timeout. And then you send this port. He knew it was done. You could see on his face. He's sitting there. He looked like he's seen a ghost. You know when he's looking, when that clock ran out and McD couldn't believe it, he's like, is that. Is the game over? The clock run out and. Yeah, and then also he's looking like that. And then they sent him out to do the presser. How bad is that?
Pat McAfee
It's bad. Who are they going to get? Maybe they hire this thing. Oh, what's up, Duck? In town for the Big Ten championship. I see. You look good, you look fit. Holiday season is doing well. Okay, here we go, ladies and gentlemen. Debuting on December 7th, only on Duck Flicks the Ducks Big Ten journey right here. Look at. There's the movie. Don't you be adding any. You gotta earn that above.
Con Man
Listen, doing push ups, it's.
AP Tony
It's kind of cool.
Con Man
Doug, it's got a push up.
Pat McAfee
No, I just got.
Gumpy
Joke.
Pat McAfee
Oh, right back at you. Right back. Oh. Oh, he gave him a diaper. He came. What? What? Dale Earner just went down, but the Duck just caught some Pampers.
Ty Schmidt
That was a great game.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my. Gosh What a.
Chuck Pagano
Only dude wipes the duck stuck in his beak.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. It wasn't waffle either. Oh, waffles.
Chuck Pagano
He's got waffles.
Pat McAfee
Where's the syrup, Chuck? Do you know what?
Gumpy
Chuck got one in his beak.
Pat McAfee
Two.
Chuck Pagano
Two for two.
Pat McAfee
Good work, duck. Hey, thank you for the gifts.
Ty Schmidt
I was gonna say as thoughtful.
Pat McAfee
Wow. We were playing a little bit of war. We thought it was maybe duck season. You know, I've been watching these guys on the Internet. Poo everything. You like Ski. I know you like ski.
AP Tony
Thought he was bringing us stuff to wear. The Big Ten championship.
Pat McAfee
Apparently not. Yeah. Oh, well, we made it. There's more. Nope.
Ty Schmidt
Nope, nope, nope.
Gumpy
Give him your shirt.
Pat McAfee
Yep.
AP Tony
That'll do, Doc.
Con Man
Oh, nice.
Pat McAfee
Oh, I like that. That's good. Size spring on that thing.
Con Man
Yeah, I might need one of those.
Pat McAfee
I'm looking for one of them. I don't go about getting that spring for something. Hey, Doc, when did you get into town? When did you get into town? This morning. Okay. How was the trip? Long flight. Long. Did you get tired? Cold? Yeah. A lot of storms coming in. When did you start your trip? When did you start quacking? Yeah, your turbulence cut in half Overnight, half stopped. Laid up in a little bit of water. Got a little nap. Got a little sleep. Sleep. Maybe made love with a. Whoa. We have little ducklings potentially come around. Oh, no, no, no. Not big game. We're all eyes on the big games, Cliff. Oh, yeah, we are focused. Easy, clipped. I don't know. Could he have spade or neutered, maybe? Get your.
Con Man
Sounds like.
Pat McAfee
Yes, that. He says we're focused on the Big Ten championship. How do you feel about this Penn State squad? You a little bit worried? Hey, that's a lion. Lions eat the shit out of ducks. That's what they do. And you go, you know, because you. You ducks are a little. What's that? Whenever you're, like, quick to run off. Skittish.
Ty Schmidt
Skittish.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, skittish. Yeah. You ducks are a little skittish. Aren't you seeing their legs below the water? Hey.
AP Tony
So calm.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's right there. A lot of moving.
Ty Schmidt
Ducks got good handwriting.
Pat McAfee
He's also words per minute. Very slow. Yeah, that's. That's the difference between humans and ducks, though.
Ty Schmidt
Yep, you're right.
Pat McAfee
That's the difference. That's why. That's why we call them in. You know, it is great to have the duck in the Big Ten. I will say I agree.
AP Tony
It is.
Pat McAfee
Duck's entertaining. I don't think all The Big Ten masks be a good game. But their mascot looks like an old tube sock on crack.
Gumpy
Pretty good.
Con Man
That's fair.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, you're pretty good.
Chuck Pagano
That's fair.
Pat McAfee
Not you, doc.
AP Tony
I'm talking about the Nittany Lion. Looks like he's on crack.
Pat McAfee
So will you have a meet and greet? I saw Arizona State in Arizona.
Con Man
They went at it.
Pat McAfee
They actually threw. They would beat your ass, Duck. They would. Yeah, I think they would. You see that right hand right to your beak right there. I think there's a. Oh, oh, oh. Crane kick. I like well.
Ty Schmidt
Danielson.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, sensei?
AP Tony
You bring a flag to plant.
Con Man
Notice me some part.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What are we doing with flag planting? What are you doing with that, AJ.
Chuck Pagano
Ducks have, oh, four fingers.
Gumpy
Here we go.
Pat McAfee
Got hard out. We do got. We got nine minutes, so we gotta. We'll see if this message gets finished.
Con Man
Maybe this might be a Buckeye jab, A.J.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Gumpy
He's got good handwriting. For real.
Pat McAfee
A.J. don't like the flag plan. No.
AP Tony
No, he doesn't.
Pat McAfee
No, he doesn't.
Gumpy
Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
Do you like the flag plant? Oh, the Ducks. How do you feel about the big 10 getting 14 in a college football playoff? How do you feel about that? You like that? You like that? You think? What's that? You want more? You think the Big Ten is the toughest conference in all of football?
Ty Schmidt
Tell them, Duck.
Pat McAfee
You think so?
Chuck Pagano
Be honest.
Pat McAfee
How's the first year been, Duck? Have you been welcomed into a lot of these places you go to? How about over there and jump around? Jump up, jump up. Get down. Jump, jump, jump, jump, jump. How'd they treat you over there? Was it good? Good anywhere tell you to scram?
Ty Schmidt
No, not really.
Pat McAfee
No. It's been good. What's that?
Con Man
Everyone.
Ty Schmidt
Everybody loves Duck.
Gumpy
What'd he drop?
Pat McAfee
We do love. They didn't love you early. Remember they were locking them out of all the.
Ty Schmidt
Purdue.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Per. Don't say. Don't you even.
Gumpy
Definitely love you. Yeah, you do that.
AP Tony
That shameful stuff. That rocket out. You too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Humping the rock, Remember? Yeah.
Con Man
Put your dick down.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you did. You are.
Gumpy
I didn't see that. I didn't see that.
AP Tony
Oh, you're hugging it.
Pat McAfee
You're hugging the rock. No, because it looked like you were a little bit more hips in your hug. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. That's what we're saying.
Gumpy
He was clenching his cheeks.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it was a little Duck.
Con Man
Just realized Chuck hates this thing. Wow.
Pat McAfee
What? He said get scared over. You said everybody loves it. I agree. I thought he does. Not older Generation like you guys.
Michael Lombardi
Give him a hug.
Gumpy
Tell him to give him a hug.
Con Man
Is it because Oregon beat Boise?
Pat McAfee
Do you think he deserves it? Maybe Travis Hunter is going to win it, but Ashton Gentee had a hell of a year. Obviously. Hey, Duck, you go to Dan Lanning's team meetings, whenever he's describing what he's going to do, whether it's gladiator thumbs down or it's inglorious bastards bashing skulls in like he did against Washington. What's this week's message? Do you know? Is it Duck Hunt? No. No. You won't say anything.
Con Man
Mom is the word.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Gumpy
What if you saw him in the back of Dan Lennon's passionate speeches?
Pat McAfee
Snaps ain't a stat, though.
Con Man
Oh, so he doesn't like Travis?
Pat McAfee
114 plays a game. Snaps ain't a stat if you're doing over 100 of them, Doc.
Chuck Pagano
God, he went.
Pat McAfee
How many miles did you fly here? How many miles were you able to fly? Yeah.
AP Tony
Shot there.
Pat McAfee
Unbelievable. Snaps ain't a stat, though.
Ty Schmidt
I kind of like that. I kind of like that.
Pat McAfee
That is the Ducksixman sitting there in his nest.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Listen to all the conversation this guy's averaging. How many snaps and ducks, like, who cares? Who cares? What are you doing? Oh, you got six turnovers. Who cares? Yeah, you got more touchdowns even. Who cares? You average over 100 yards a game, wide receiver. Who cares? That's what you're saying, Duck. Geez Louise.
AP Tony
I'm with you, Duck.
Chuck Pagano
He's right on.
Pat McAfee
Oh, this guy's doing something we've never seen before. We literally just talked about his conditioning and his cardio. The Duck couldn't even make it here from Oregon without stopping. Two times, probably. You said it was one time. Two times, probably. Two times you stopped two times. Your car. It's after Thanksgiving, too, Duck. Yeah. Yeah. No, no, no, no.
Con Man
You.
Pat McAfee
You.
AP Tony
What city did you stop in?
Con Man
Nevada.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
AP Tony
You don't wanna talk about it?
Pat McAfee
Oh, okay.
Con Man
Geez.
Pat McAfee
Had to get out of town. You had to get out of town? Two towns. You stopped twice. Oh, one time. If you had five fingers, this would be easier. So much.
AP Tony
Were you playing golf in Scottsdale?
Gumpy
You could talk?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Were you with Biz? Where were you? Why didn't you help Biz? I'm sure you're flying over top of that. Six Irish gypsies were trying to beat his ass, and you're just over top. Well.
AP Tony
Have you seen any orbs while you in your flights?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. A lot of alien talk. Yeah, a lot of alien talk. There at one. Oh, I can't wait to hear what this is. It's gonna be some smart ass line from a duck here in Salt Lake.
Ty Schmidt
City, Utah hockey club.
Pat McAfee
You the Mormons like you or no Mormons like you. Everybody likes you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Though this guy has no Great Salt Lake. How is it landing in that thing?
Pat McAfee
A little chilly. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Turbulence.
Con Man
Crashed.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
So you're a terrible flyer. How old are you? If I had to get like. How many years you been flying? Nine. You're nine years old? Ten years old.
AP Tony
It's not a count.
Pat McAfee
What's a duck's life expectancy? Especially when it's running into a nittany lion on a Saturday. I'm worried about you, dude. With the fights, with the flags being planted.
Ty Schmidt
I know.
Pat McAfee
The mascot fights.
Ty Schmidt
Yep, yep.
Pat McAfee
This is gonna duck around and find out, ain't it?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Truly legit. You're gonna duck around and find out, I think. Oh, he said okay.
Con Man
Ticket prices aren't too.
Pat McAfee
12 bucks to come see you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You hear about that?
Con Man
Embarrassing.
Pat McAfee
12 bucks to come watch you on Saturday.
Chuck Pagano
That's it.
Pat McAfee
Old garage sale teddy bear. He is. Oh, okay. He's not in the line anymore. He's old garage sale. All right. Well, Doc, we appreciate you stopping by. Thank you for the gift. That was very kind. Thank you for making appearance. Actually, we got a gift for you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. One of these is jingle bells or dingle bells.
Ty Schmidt
Dingle bells.
AP Tony
Do what?
Pat McAfee
Dingle bells, Dingle bells Dangle all the way. Rub your cheeks with these and your troubles go away.
AP Tony
Hey, it's huge. Because you're not wearing pants either.
Pat McAfee
A duck from Oregon tries to fly. Written by the duck. Hey, here we go.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah, I forgot duck.
Pat McAfee
Here we go. I completely forgot about. I'm just saying. The duck just said right there. All right, duck, what do you want to do? Shoot a basketball? Throw a football. Throw a football. Okay. You're going in this hoop over here. Okay. Oh, the net or the boss's box? Either or you put it into a hole in the net or into the final boss's box. You will win 30 people. $500 who repost this post on X. Say something nice to somebody and put the easiest way to pay them. Now this is going to. You picked up the Duke.
Ty Schmidt
Throwing the Duke.
Pat McAfee
Wow. There's a lot of different balls that are available.
Con Man
Duke for the duck.
Pat McAfee
Picks up the Duke. The duck has traveled for the past three days to get here to Indianapolis, Indiana. Took two stops because the conditioning and cardio is a little Bit low post Thanksgiving. But if this Duck could throw that pig into one of those holes over there. 30 people, $500 for a Big Ten championship for Oregon.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, the Duck has a hose.
Con Man
Hose.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
What the hell?
Pat McAfee
Would have counted it off the wall. One more throw. One more throw. One more throw. One more throw. The Duck for the people, picks up the national championship ball from last year.
Con Man
Good omen.
Chuck Pagano
Resetting the protection.
Pat McAfee
Apple alert. Cheek, Cheek. Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack.
Chuck Pagano
Jesus God.
Ty Schmidt
Take a little off.
John Kuhn
Holy.
Gumpy
He's all jacked up.
Chuck Pagano
What if that would have come down?
Ty Schmidt
That would have been awesome.
Con Man
Threw his arm out.
Pat McAfee
Throw another one out there, we get some damn control. Please, we sign off here. Hold on. Perfect. Oh, the Bear. The Bear play. We'll continue on YouTube. Tick Tock Live and ESPN Plus. We'll be back tomorrow. Overreacting to tonight's game. I'll be in Atlanta for the SEC championship. Cheers. All right, Duck, listen. We're still live on YouTube. You just blew it on ESPN, though. Oh, my God.
Con Man
That's a damn shame.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God, Duck, you almost took down our CFB sign. That's college football sign.
Chuck Pagano
Phil Knight is so pissed right now.
Pat McAfee
Oh, he just said that. Uncle Phil. Phil Knight not going to be happy with your performance right there.
AP Tony
Why don't you have a swoosh on the side of your feet?
Chuck Pagano
The Nil deal is going to be huge.
Pat McAfee
If you would have made that. But instead.
AP Tony
Is there a swoosh on any of his clothes?
Ty Schmidt
No.
Pat McAfee
Are you an Adidas stuck?
Chuck Pagano
There it is.
Gumpy
Yeah. What are we doing?
Pat McAfee
I'm just saying there is no. We're trying to identify. I. I got Nikes on. I got Nikes on.
Con Man
No swoosh. Are those from China?
Ty Schmidt
Better not be.
Con Man
Fake ones.
Pat McAfee
Fake? You're wearing fake Nikes. You're wearing fake. No, those are the Duck ones.
Con Man
I mean, three stripes.
Pat McAfee
Duck. One, two, three, four, five.
Gumpy
There's little feet.
Pat McAfee
Duck elevens.
AJ Hawk
One of one.
AP Tony
There you go.
Pat McAfee
Good.
Con Man
Good call.
Pat McAfee
Foxy said 101. Is that what you're talking about?
Ty Schmidt
Aren't there, like three of you guys, though?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Con Man
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
One on one.
Con Man
There's still the swoosh on all 101.
Pat McAfee
But are yours one up? So what size are those? Those my size.
Ty Schmidt
Sounds like bones. Boots. A little bit.
Pat McAfee
Size 15, 14, 13. Oh, yeah. Cause there's only four. Yeah. So size 12. Boom. God. Had to do the math.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's on me. That's Duck. Life, baby. Speaking of a duck life. You can really make some people's lives a lot ducking better. All you have to do is put a football into one of those holes over there. You can either put it into final boss's box, which is where all the good stuff happens, or to one of the holes on the three nets, or three holes, that is on the one net over there, being guarded by a bear.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Which could be a Nittany lion, if you really think about it.
Con Man
Symbolism.
Pat McAfee
Duck. All you gotta do is put that ball into a hole. Thirty people will win $500, duck. For the Big Ten championship, too. You missed this one. Penn State's winning.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Wow. That was a miss. Oh, no. Bad move. Oh, no.
Con Man
Bad move.
Pat McAfee
Oh, no. Can the weight of the world on this duck's shoulders remain up or is he gonna crumble? Duck.
Chuck Pagano
Oh, what a duck.
Con Man
Oh, God, it's all she wrote. Sorghan's a five seed.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, Duck. Duck.
Con Man
I mean, now you're just making a mockery.
Ty Schmidt
Take it serious.
Pat McAfee
I thought this was for 30 people.
Ty Schmidt
Duck. You got to take a little off.
Con Man
Yeah, Too strong here. Duck.
AP Tony
This is kind of like your performance at Purdue this year.
Chuck Pagano
Oh, tranquilo. Calm down.
Pat McAfee
That's what.
AP Tony
That's what he said.
Ty Schmidt
Nah, it was him.
Pat McAfee
It was him.
Ty Schmidt
I said you gotta take a little off.
Pat McAfee
This is the thing about the Duck. You just can't talk behind him. Oh, got him. You ready? Here we go. Duck.
Gumpy
What's the thing about that mascot that was hitting on a reporter?
Pat McAfee
The Miami Hurricane?
Gumpy
Is that who it was?
Con Man
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I think about the reporter. Some experience and the mascot, you guys texted each other, said, we can't be doing that. Yeah. Y'all move along. Yeah.
Con Man
Or is it like a welcome to the club situation?
Pat McAfee
I don't. That's journalism right there. No, he didn't hear you. He said no.
AP Tony
You and the Hurricane ever been out together in Miami?
Pat McAfee
You guys hit the town? What do you do night before you go to different watering holes in town?
Ty Schmidt
Raise a little hell.
AP Tony
You booze a lot?
Pat McAfee
You do push ups? Push ups, lift weights and sleep. You're a little bit too strong right now. Maybe if you have a little bit of touch here on this particular football throw. 40 people.
Ty Schmidt
Holy.
Pat McAfee
40 people win five.
AP Tony
40.
Pat McAfee
Doc, listen, I'm pulling for you. All you gotta do is put that ball into any hole that's over there and 40 people win 500 bucks in this holiday. Oh, man.
Chuck Pagano
Aim. Aim to the right ear of the bear. Okay. Aim to the right ear of the.
Pat McAfee
Bear, the bear or the right ear?
Chuck Pagano
Well, as we're looking at it, the right ear. Left ear, left on the bear as we're looking at.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
Here's why I want you to aim. See where the. Aim for the B. All right. And cfb emf. See if. Aim for that and it's going to come right into the hole and take a little off it.
Con Man
That's terrible idea.
Chuck Pagano
And do it for the people.
Pat McAfee
Throw 40 people, 500. Getting coached up by Coach Pagano. Oh.
Chuck Pagano
Oh, my God. That was so good.
Gumpy
It's a good throws.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, the Duck has a good ball.
Pat McAfee
I think it's the four fingers.
Ty Schmidt
Must be.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. Never gonna be able to find.
Gumpy
Can't be very grippy either. Is it.
Pat McAfee
Is it slippy?
Chuck Pagano
He's getting a spin. I mean, I know it's coming off his hand.
Ty Schmidt
Turning it over a bit.
Pat McAfee
A lot of reps. A lot of these.
Chuck Pagano
Talk about a moon.
Pat McAfee
I think you should think about just, you know. Now, Grant, we don't have any balls left. So it's over for you. For this particular trip, maybe this becomes you. Whoa.
Con Man
This might be destroyed. Dorsal fin.
Pat McAfee
That's a Russell Wilson dorsal fin football right there, Duck. And if you're able to control that particular ball that has been calibrated for a right human hand, I believe it's probably a right duck hand as. Whoa. Duck.
Chuck Pagano
This could be some serious damage to the wall.
Pat McAfee
Well, that's the thing about the Duck. The Duck is jacked. He does push ups for every point that is scored. He flew all the way from Eugene to Indianapolis for the Big Ten championship. And now if he's able to put this dorsal fin football into any hole over there, 50 people will win $500 this holiday season and possibly be an indicator for what happens on Saturday at the Loud House, the Big Ten Championship where the number one seed Oregon team takes on the Penn State N. Yeah. Lying.
Con Man
You didn't even try.
Pat McAfee
I was. I see effort all about you. Tired from the trip over. What do you say? You're tired. You're kaput. You're exhausted. Wow. You don't get tired. You are tired. It's a graveyard. Look at how many misses you had. Jesus.
AJ Hawk
Terrible look.
Pat McAfee
Do you know what it looks like? A pond after somebody goes duck hunting.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
Look at that. Look at it. Look at that. They come down and then it's down there and that's what it looks like. Geez Louise. I don't love it. I'm just telling you the facts. What about a basketball? Can you Shoot a basketball.
John Kuhn
No way.
Chuck Pagano
He got excited.
Gumpy
Oh yeah.
Pat McAfee
Oh yeah. You think you can? Yeah, you think you can.
Ty Schmidt
Oregon got their first Big Ten basketball win last night. Yes, they did. Against usc.
AP Tony
Are you a football duck or you go to basketball games too?
Pat McAfee
A little bit.
Con Man
Both does it all.
Pat McAfee
What about track? What about track? You go to the track too? Yeah, because Speed University, right? Speed City. Oh, oh.
Gumpy
Wrestling. Wrestling.
Chuck Pagano
Coaches all line.
Pat McAfee
AJ wants to know if you go to Oregon wrestling meets too. Do you get. Do you get involved there? Have you dance?
Gumpy
Boxing?
Chuck Pagano
How about rowing? They got crew there.
Con Man
Stomp the yard team.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Imagine if they did have a. Imagine if he was.
Gumpy
That'd be awesome.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that'd be great. If the duck. We don't have wrestling. Oh, that's probably good. Size of those legs. That's probably the right play. You got those little birds.
AP Tony
You're going to need to get it.
Ty Schmidt
You're going to need a wrestling team. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You got those little bird legs you're going to have to open.
AP Tony
Not bad.
Ty Schmidt
Not bad.
Chuck Pagano
Shoot.
Pat McAfee
That single he.
Gumpy
What other sport?
Pat McAfee
Wow. We had knee pads on. No, no, obviously there's no knee pads. Yeah, we don't see you go to gymnastics. Yeah, about gymnastics. You do gymnastics or. No, no, no.
Con Man
Do cartwheel.
Pat McAfee
That BYU cougar I see.
Chuck Pagano
Come on.
Pat McAfee
That BYU cougar does round off flips over golf carts.
AP Tony
He almost died.
Con Man
That's the best mascot in the game. College wise.
Chuck Pagano
Number one. But he life and limb.
AP Tony
This guy.
Chuck Pagano
You know that with. With a mask on.
Pat McAfee
Well then he lost the mask at one time. Remember it shot off.
Con Man
That was problem.
Pat McAfee
And that's when we found out it wasn't an actual cougar. Which was crazy. Oh boy. We never. That isn't obviously that's not a suit.
Ty Schmidt
No, no, of course not.
Pat McAfee
No, that's not a suit. That's duck.
Con Man
It's the largest duck ever.
Chuck Pagano
It's almost as real as a Pandas coach.
Con Man
Coach Charles. Those.
Pat McAfee
Did you see.
John Kuhn
Did you see the.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Con Man
You see that one outside there? You see the one outside the airport?
Chuck Pagano
Boys.
AP Tony
Donald Daffy.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Who's the greatest duck?
AP Tony
Bombay Donald.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AP Tony
Because you both are shirt cocking it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. No pants. Just shirt. Is that for when you get in the water or what is that?
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You just like to live. Yeah.
Con Man
What about the Affleck, Doug?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Is that one a little kind of a.
Con Man
Right.
Pat McAfee
A little bit. Kind of made too much pizzazz. Too much. Too much hype. Too early.
Ty Schmidt
Well made duck.
Con Man
I mean. I mean the duck on the game day set Too.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. No better. All right, jb he whines a lot. He does the Aflac duck.
AP Tony
Yeah, he does.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I think that's kind of your thing, though, isn't it? Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack. Don't you guys, like, always whine? That's kind of your sound. Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack. You say you don't say anything?
Gumpy
Not a peep.
Pat McAfee
When you win, say little.
Gumpy
Where do you learn how to write?
Pat McAfee
Say little. When you win, say less.
Ty Schmidt
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
That's the duck. Lee Corso, actually. Where did you learn how to write? Was there a human that helped you in the whole process? Or. What was that human's name? Jeez, I'm sick of the time.
Con Man
Master Splinter.
Pat McAfee
Oh, no. Oh, no. Does that mean Oregon's not gonna win? Because he dropped that marker.
Ty Schmidt
Good.
Con Man
I mean, he missed all those shots, you know. You know, aq.
Pat McAfee
Don't you be stomping those old.
Chuck Pagano
Wait till this gets back.
Pat McAfee
Don't you be stomping Hotel. You better watch that stage with those little duck feet stomping around. Oh, hissy fit. He did throw a little hissy fit. Little ducky, hissy fit.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Man, is he's gotta hold that thing like this. Yeah, he's holding it just straight ahead.
Con Man
Lunatic.
Pat McAfee
Long message here. Geez, Doc.
AP Tony
This is who taught him to write, right?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So, yeah, I've taken writing 121, like 20 times. At Oregon. I dropped. Yeah, smart. You do well, all capital letters, too. Pretty aggressive. I appreciate that. You don't Write like a doctor. Even though you've taken a class 20 times. You do write like a duck. And there's a chance that a Duck can win 40 people $500 this holiday season. Now, Duck, listen. Today has been a fantastic day for our program. We'll find out if it's a fantastic day for you. You've made it all the way out here. We're thankful you're here. Big Ten championship game.
Con Man
Where you going? You know, layup or.
Gumpy
What's happening?
Pat McAfee
What are you gonna do?
Ty Schmidt
Duck Wouldn't mind. Hard drive to the cup.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Con Man
Reverse layup.
Pat McAfee
That's good kick. Duck right there. That's your spot.
Gumpy
Watch his toes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Hey, make sure the toes aren't on.
Chuck Pagano
Jesus.
Pat McAfee
Good kick. This guy's pretty good steel, Toad. Hey, make sure those toes are on the line. Yep. If the Duck makes this NBA 3, 40 people will win $500. All you have to do is repost this post. Say Something nice to somebody and put the easiest way to pay you. Oh, not bad out of that duck. Good job. Not bad out of the duck.
AP Tony
Girl.
Ty Schmidt
Check ball.
Con Man
Step back.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. Duck. Oh.
Con Man
Catch and shoot.
Pat McAfee
40 people, $500. All you gotta do is repost this post, say something nice to somebody, and put. But the easiest way to pay you. Thanks for the gifts, Duck.
Chuck Pagano
Thank you.
Pat McAfee
You're the man. Or lady. Whatever.
Ty Schmidt
Well done.
Pat McAfee
You're the duck. You're the duck.
Chuck Pagano
You are the duck.
Pat McAfee
You are the duck. Duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, Duck. All right, on that note, we'll take a break. That was a big win from the duck.
Con Man
Huge.
AP Tony
Yeah, I think came from.
Pat McAfee
No, out of nowhere.
AP Tony
Started walking on it.
Pat McAfee
To be clear, I did forget that the duck was gonna make an appearance today. Sure. Until his ass just was walking through there, and I'm like, oh, really?
Gumpy
Surprised you? Yeah, that would surprise me a little bit if you weren't thinking about it.
Pat McAfee
This was decided, I think, a few weeks ago. So obviously these things just kind of pop up on you out of nowhere. And then all of a sudden, there's a damn. There's damn duck walking through the gym. It's great to see the duck. Oh, so much pizzazz.
AP Tony
Yeah, a lot of pizzazz.
Chuck Pagano
Quick transition from bears. Flus. Warren Duck like, boom.
Pat McAfee
But then we came back to bears because we're talking about lions. I mean, there was a lot of animal talk there. And the one who reigns supreme, a duck. That's right. They got a big one this weekend. First year in the Big Ten. They come Walter Walton in this west coast team, comes Walton into the Big Ten and can win the championship. AJ they're really.
Gumpy
They are very good. I agree.
Pat McAfee
They're built like a Big Ten team, though.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Gumpy
You say west coast team. They're not. I mean, they're. No, They're a win anywhere team. They're.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they're northwest. I'm just saying, if we're looking at a map, it is.
Gumpy
Yeah, yeah, of course.
Pat McAfee
Is the way way west? Wayst over there.
Chuck Pagano
It's way. It's wet, it's gloomy, it's grimy, it's gritty.
Pat McAfee
Oregon.
Chuck Pagano
It's not like Southern Cal.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you're right.
AP Tony
You're right.
Pat McAfee
That is something to think about. In the trees over there, redwoods. Smoke them. Look at them. Good.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Big trees. Pine, I think. Okay. I think it's a pine situation. Beautiful trespass to the duck. Duck gets it. Banks open, 40 people. 500 bucks for the duck. That was great work out of that duck. Football is wonderful. One of the football mascots for the Big Ten championship just up by the duck and he had a bunch of gifts for all of us in the back there that he. I don't think the duck was able because he only got four fingers on each hand to bring all the way out here. Great gift bag. I'll tell you what, hey, Oregon's doing something nice in the Big Ten. Welcome to Indianapolis. The $12 tickets are certainly something. People are wondering how that takes place while Oregon's very, very far away. Yeah, very, very, very far away. But Penn State people, I guess, I.
AP Tony
Assume Ohio State people already had those tickets bought. Now they're trying to offload them.
Pat McAfee
Well, a man who potentially is one of those people, AJ Hawk joins us obviously from the Ohio State. Did you see that ticket price thing happening here at the Loud House, Lucas Oil Stadium?
Gumpy
Yeah, I did. I mean I would imagine if you're going to go watch either of these teams play, you're going to go to the playoff games and you're going to skip this one. That's why I think it is.
Pat McAfee
So there's a chance that Oregon is in Rose Bowl. I believe so. So that is certainly something for the playoff wise. Penn State, there's a chance they host a home playoff game and it's like they haven't been in Big Ten championship conversation. Though, in a long time. I thought hopefully that would, you know, carry. I wonder if these Penn State people are just like, they'll have travel, they'll have a presence or whatever. But that's not that far. You know, that's not that far over here. I wonder. One half of the Hammer Cowboys. AP Tone your thoughts.
AP Tony
Yeah, to your point. I, I think they're trying to do it. So the quarterfinals. The Rose bowl is one of the quarterfinal games and they're trying to do it like conference wise. So the big if Oregon's number one. I assume they'll be there. So. And Oregon fans being so far, that makes sense. But yeah, the Penn State fans, maybe they just didn't think they'd be in this.
Pat McAfee
Not a draw. What's that all about? Taylor Swift. I don't know what the concert tickets were because I heard, I saw Albert Breer, who we have a lot of respect for, say it needs be in Chicago. Okay. Think about all the Big Ten ties in Chicago. I believe the Big Ten office is in Chicago and everything like that. As if Indianapolis wasn't the right home for. That's the reason why people can't. Okay, all right. You think that's the reason why people aren't coming to the game because it's not in Chicago. You think people want to go up to 10 degrees up there, you know, instead, like, obviously, Chicago, beautiful city. I have nothing but respect. Love going there. But just painting it as, oh, it's Indianapolis. Never had a problem like this before. Nope. Never. Never for anything that happens in Indianapolis. So I think this is a little bit of a. An indic. I don't love it. I don't. I don't love seeing that it's 12 bucks to get into an event in Indianapolis. I don't enjoy that at all because we are. We host all the biggest events and it's like tickets for all the things normally tough to get. And it's like this one, like, come on. It's like the high school state championship. This is like a high school state championship ticket to get into the Big Ten championship. I don't love that at all.
Ty Schmidt
Ty, you would also expect if, like, if you were maybe thinking, like, hey, this is going to be too expensive. I'm going to save up my money to go to like the first round playoff game or whatever. If you're a penny state fan, when you see that it's 15 bucks to get in, like, wouldn't that just be like an automatic. Like, and I would assume if tickets are that easy to find then, like hotels down here probably aren't that crazy either. Like you would think. And like, just think like we went to the game last year and granted it's different because it's not like, oh, I won't go this week because there's a chance they're going to be playing in the playoff next year. But like Michigan, Iowa, like you, you knew, like, it was an atmosphere probably not going to be super competitive either. Like, going in. It's not like I was thinking, like, hey, Iowa might win this game. But like, like it was damn near a sellout. Like, Iowa fans travel to the game and granted they're, it's closer than Pence Penn State is, but still, it just, it's crazy. I mean, this is crazy. And if they win, they're probably going to get the one seed. Like, it's, it's a big game.
Chuck Pagano
So is there any chance that Oregon, if they lose, loses any ground, misses a home playoff, all that?
Pat McAfee
No, they get a home playoff if they lose.
Chuck Pagano
Okay, so is there any chance they lose? Nobody's coming. That's. They don't. Because there's a lot of people talking about, you know, not playing in a. It'd be more beneficial not to play in a championship game.
Pat McAfee
Could you imagine Oregon resting at starters? Okay. Because if they lose, seriously, they would be number five seed. And we've talked. They're the only ones that if they were, they control their destiny to get to the five seed.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
If they wanted to get to the five seed, they lose to Penn State, all of a sudden, Penn State, now maybe they're number one depending upon what happens with Texas, Georgia, but Oregon would go to the five seed, they get a home playoff game and then to get the lowest ranked champion in the next spot.
Chuck Pagano
Don't get anybody hurt.
Pat McAfee
Rest another week and another week.
Chuck Pagano
Save your money.
Pat McAfee
And then selling the Big Ten people, selling to Oregon people like, Big Ten championship though in Oregon, people just being like, we'll get them later.
Chuck Pagano
National Champions championship, home playoff game, healthy team, another week of rest.
Pat McAfee
I don't like that this is even being talked about. It's wild. AJ I don't like it. AJ because the championships are supposed to be held in high regard. That's why they got to buy. But now everybody that's really talked about it is like, the only thing came.
Chuck Pagano
In my mind is like, nobody's coming. Nobody's even wants to go to the game now because of whatever we're giving away tickets like it's 12 bucks.
Pat McAfee
Like it's 1999, 12 bucks to get in is.
Chuck Pagano
You get a pizza with that or.
Pat McAfee
Age.
Chuck Pagano
You think so I think what?
Gumpy
Like, I know, I know people that they're like, they save up money to go to the one bowl game per year that the team has, whatever, like Ohio State wise. So I know when there's multiple games and you're thinking, hey, I want to follow these teams, I hope they make a deep run. I can't pay for three or four games. I can't do that. So this is one that falls off your list.
Pat McAfee
Good news. You got, you got enough money. What if we bought a thousand? I mean it just did as a giveaway. I did that for the Pacers. One of my early years here. There was like 5,000 seats available up in the upper deck for like a big game. It was like a big game. And the guy that was run working there at the time and I had a good relationship. He since moved on. We. We did a deal and he gave me the tickets for like five bucks or ten bucks or whatever. And him giving him away was the biggest problem. Yeah, no one wanted. That was the. It was the hardest part. It was like a. How do we give it away and then be who's showing up for this free giveaway? We had homeless people showing up because they thought they had a night inside Cambridge field house, you know, to watch a game to get there. It turned into how to make a free throw to get it. And it just became an absolute. So we will not be buying 10,000 tickets, but we will be there. We cannot wait to watch that Big Ten championship. Should be a good one between Oregon and the Pen State Nittany Lions. Speaking of a good one tonight, the Lions and Packers do battle. Packers have to win. Everybody says to remain relevant in the conversation in the nfc. The Lions have to win to remain in the driver's seat of NFC home field advantage to the playoffs. Joining us now is a man who'll be on the sideline, a man who played for the Green Bay packers for nine years, 13 total years in this entire thing. And I'll tell you, an absolute dog, ladies and gentlemen. Fullback for the Packers, Steelers and Saints. John. Cool. Sorry we were so late, brother. We got caught up with the damn duck. We appreciate you.
John Kuhn
I saw that. And that duck can really steal some thunder there. But I'm not surprised. Listen, AJ was one of those guys. You have a dinner party, when do you start? It's 4:00. No, not really. The dinner starts at 5. Because that's when AJ showing up now.
Pat McAfee
Could this is on us. It's not on AJ and there's a chance I'm a similar acting human being. You know, if I'm not going to get actually find real money for being on time, it's going to be tough to find me there at that exact time. We should know there is a buffer period in this entire thing, football wise, going to lose actual money. You got it?
Ty Schmidt
I'll be there.
Pat McAfee
Okay. You got it? I will, absolutely. But if there I need a buffer. Okay. I'm going to life happens. This time a duck showed up that I completely forgot about. Coon, we can't thank you enough for joining us. You need to know we are all big fans of the way you played football and everything you did. So we appreciate you.
John Kuhn
Mr. My pleasure, guys. My pleasure, guys. And I appreciate the way you go about your business too, Pat. Even back in the 2014, I believe it was Pro bowl, the way you worked the social side of things around the pole with those strawberry margaritas.
Pat McAfee
Right?
John Kuhn
I mean, right. I mean, that's how this whole thing got started.
Pat McAfee
I mean, we definitely, definitely were cooking back then. That was when Deflategate was potentially taking place. And we, you know, we're maybe going to. If they were going to disqualify the Patriots, we just lost by 30 culture all of a sudden in the super bowl, though, we're out the Pro bowl in Arizona. I mean, have a good time. I mean, having a real good time. Then there was the Internet rumors like, oh, they're going to disqualify the Patriots. Colts are going to get in there. Obviously it wasn't very real, but in the moment when you're a little boozed up, maybe I should stop boozing. If we're going to be in the super bowl next year or next week, Boom. That really threw me into. Oh, this guy thinks the flight gates real. No, no, no. I'm just drunk at the Pro Bowl. Please don't come after me. Nonetheless, Coon, you're the man and your style of football and obviously AJ Style of football. Old school physical run people over. It's back. It is all the way back, especially for the good teams. How do you feel about the Green Bay packers tonight? The way they can play with Josh Jacobs and that offensive line against that Detroit Lions front seven that is banged up. Is that the story of the game? Because that's how I've been talking about it. You with the packers boots on the ground, Is that the story of tonight, you think or what do you, what do you Think it'll come down to.
John Kuhn
I think there's many storylines, Pat, but that's definitely the biggest one is all the injuries to the defensive front for the Detroit Lions. When everybody knows Hutchinson, but people forget Marcus Davenport was supposed to be opposite Hutchinson this year. Then you got Derek Barnes, John Kaminsky, and then Pascal, the second year player. They just have so many guys on that defensive front that are beat up. And then Alex Anzalone, who I think is one of the more underrated linebackers in the NFL going down a couple weeks ago. He's going to be out for quite some time, if not the rest of the season as well. That's a big hit to that defense that, you know, really tries to live off of Dan Campbell's bite in the kneecap mentality. They come in there and they hit you and they hit you and they keep hitting you, much like their offense would like to do. So I think the injuries on the defensive side for Detroit is going to play a big factor in how they do the rest of the season. And really, when we look at this football game here tonight, yeah, I think.
Pat McAfee
Tonight'S an indicator of what the Lions are going to be going forward. I think. I think we find out not that the Lions are anything other than one of the best teams in football, which we have watched. I got a chance to see it with the Colts 24, six in our building. They started slow, but they just beat you down. And the offense has so much talent. How many injuries is too many injuries? We find out tonight. Now let's talk about the packers team that, you know, inside and out vibes good here. Josh Jacobs obviously comes in. Running back Aaron Jones gets sent to Minnesota. He's having a great year, Josh. And the offense seemingly don't miss a beat. Jordan Love last three weeks hasn't had a turnover. Matt Lafleur's record in December is good. How are the vibes with the Green Bay packers and what are expectations you think for this team?
John Kuhn
Expectations are we're just getting started going in this direction and that. You look at what happened last year and ironically, if you look at the Internet, it's Toyota Thon. Obviously, Jordan Love during Toyota thon is when everything takes off. But quite frankly, last year it was his first year getting started, so it took him some time to build that rapport with the rest of the young offense. And when he did, it took off. I look at it similarly this year. Pat did not play in preseason games like he did last year and then got hurt in the first game down in Brazil, came back several weeks later re injured a groin. So Jordan hasn't really had that consistency and that continuity at practice during the week and in these football games until recently feeling healthy. And now that he is, he's played his best two games in back to back weeks and the offense has been at its best in back to back weeks. And we are starting to ask the question around here, is Jordan Love just starting to hit that stride that we saw at the end of last season? If so, this packers team is well on its way to doing good things. I think one of the other storylines for Pat, as you talk about storylines, is the Green Bay packers want to consider themselves one of the elite in the nfc and they've been very good for some time, but they've lost three games this year. The three teams they lost to, the only three teams in the NFC with better records than them. They need to come out and beat one of those teams before the playoffs come around just to get that internal confidence of, hey, we are one of those great teams.
Pat McAfee
Can't beat a good team. Yeah, you're great against the crop, but can you do it against a good squad? That's a nice motivating factor for a team to kind of get calloused up for a long run during Toyoton and to ram truck some other teams. Go ahead. A.J.
Gumpy
Hawk K. What's, what's Leflore been like? I I guess think about going back from when he got there till now. How have you seen him kind of grow as a coach? He seems to be very comfortable on the sideline and what he's doing, very confident. Have you seen like him change throughout the years during his time?
John Kuhn
Well, definitely, AJ I I remember talking with laflori's first year and he said the most difficult part was being able to compartmental realize what it takes to be a head coach. Now you're not just watching film, creating plays and coaching those plays up to the players. Now you got to do a TV show, now you got radio stuff, now you got to talk to executive committees and you have all these different responsibilities. And I think he is, he has gotten to the point after his first three or four years where he is very good at compartmentalizing those separate parts of what it takes to be a head coach. And now he can knock out the ball stuff as good as they come. The offensive game plans here for the packers, especially when they didn't have Jordan Love this year, were exceptional. To me, it's the best thing that I've seen out of Matt LaFleur since he's been a head coach in Green Bay. The ability. How many teams around the NFL do you see get a backup quarterback in and they look a shell of themselves? And the packers hit the ground running, dedicated to the run game, and really came out stronger after those games with the back of quarterback in. Hard to say that about many teams.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Malik, I remember him running down the field and how, like, confident everybody was too. And you talk about, like a culture and being able to build it. It's like LaFleur's team feels like they got it the swag. And I think that's a lot of Jordan Love, too, huh? This dude's sweet. This guy behind the scenes, he feels like a. Everybody obviously came out about him loud whenever he became the starter. All of his teammates saying things that they didn't have to say. We're going out the way to say them about him. He's the guy, huh? He's. He's the perfect man to follow Brett Aaron and then hit. Now the packers torches with him. He feels like the right guy for it all.
John Kuhn
Yeah, Pat, he's so chill, man. It's one of those things where he scores a touchdown and it's like a fist pump, you know, it's not an over the top celebration. He throws an interception. It's. It's a simple unsnap of the helmet. It's not a put your head down. It's not a oh, wo is me type. He's just so even kill at all, all time. And when you. When you have that as your quarterback, guys can respond off of that. They don't. They don't necessarily have fear ever strike into them like, oh, my gosh, where are we going to go? They always believe that with him taking the calls and executing the offense that they will have a chance. And because of that and this team, they've done some pretty exceptional things on the offensive side of the ball, you know, this year, even with the struggles that they had. So I think everybody feeds off of that energy and everybody kind of has their own part in this offense. But Jordan Love is definitely the guy that everybody follows into the fight.
Pat McAfee
Good for you guys. Ty Schmidt, one of the 500. No, 5.2 million shareholders.
Con Man
Purchasers.
Pat McAfee
Purchasers of the Green Bay Packers. Ty Schmidt, ladies and gentlemen.
John Kuhn
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Mr. Coon, first and foremost, I just like to say thank you for putting your head on the line for the packers for so long. Not only in games, but from what we've heard in practice with AJ Just fucking disintegrating his teeth into dust on cold December days during the week. So I really thank you for that. I appreciate that. Love watching you play. You talk about the offense. They've been obviously very good over these last few weeks, but the defense is starting to kind of hit their stride too. Last time they played the Lions though, I think, I want to say the Lions, you know, combined for like 160 or 86 rush yards or something like that. And packers didn't really do much to kind of deter them. What do you think that matchup is going to look like tonight? Especially the packers down a couple guys, but guys like Lucas Van Ness have really stepped up since the Preston Smith trade.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Lucas, Yeah.
John Kuhn
I would say this. Every week that goes by with Jeff Halfley as the defensive coordinator, something looks better, something gets a little more attention to and something gets fixed. Pass rush was a big problem early in the football season. He found a way to create, you know, one on ones with, with offenses in the third down category where they weren't really getting those one on ones before. And a lot of it is, you know, simulated pressures where they get a crosser or a picker and a stunner and things where they can design guys to get free. And you know, similarly in the run game sometimes you might have to bring a little bit of pressure on first and second down, turn those run blitzes into pass blitzes. And I think that might take its place here tonight. Especially when you get a team that the first time you go against them, they do rush so well against you. Everybody knows Detroit, two headed monster, great offensive line. You might have to bring an extra guy to the party, try and get those gaps cleaned up. And if they do set back on play action pass. You know, A.J. you just turn that rumble straight to the quarterback.
Pat McAfee
You talk about Sonic and Knuckles is that we're talking about talking about Jameer Montgomery. Yeah, we're talking about Knuckles Montgomery doesn't eat turkey.
Ty Schmidt
No, it doesn't.
Pat McAfee
All right. Does not eat turkey. Carrot.
Ty Schmidt
Steam carrots.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Steam carrot. He was really good. And he's talking about Jamir Gibbs, Sonic. And he says he'll hit and get it gone and then this guy's gonna pound you. And that's two headed monster. It's not thunder and lightning. It's Sonic and Knuckles. Right? That is what this is.
Con Man
Yes.
AJ Hawk
Yep.
Pat McAfee
That's pretty good. That's pretty clever. Yeah.
Con Man
Change their IG profile picture.
AP Tony
They had the cleats, they had the Sonic and Knuckles shoes on.
Pat McAfee
Is there another one of those that Movie was alarmingly good.
Ty Schmidt
There's another one coming out.
Con Man
Third one's coming out. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Jelly Roll, I think, just released a song with. I just saw a music video. Jelly Roll Sonic. And the other, the blue one, Carey, was Jim Carrey.
Con Man
No, Dr. Robotnik.
Gumpy
Yeah, he's a painter.
Pat McAfee
Who is Jim Carrey?
Gumpy
Jim Carrey paints. Yeah.
Con Man
Yeah. But he's acting again and he's Dr. Robotic.
Pat McAfee
Dr.
AP Tony
It was Dr.
Pat McAfee
He was inside, but I don't think Jim Carrey was in the track. And I think it was just Jelly Roll Sonic in Knuckles. Knuckles. Kind of a dog, huh?
Ty Schmidt
A little bit.
Con Man
Wait till you see Shadow.
Pat McAfee
Who's that?
Con Man
That's the newest one.
AP Tony
His tails in it.
Pat McAfee
There's another one of these things Shadow.
Con Man
Built in a lab.
Pat McAfee
Hedgehogs just come in, all different S. What lab? What country?
Con Man
We shouldn't talk about that right now.
Pat McAfee
Oh, you're right. Let's move along.
Con Man
Look out, January 21st.
Pat McAfee
Hey, let's talk about. Hey, a big pop out of that. We have questions about football as a whole now, as opposed to just tonight. And we appreciate you taking time. I see your head shape. We've talked about this a lot. You know, we've talked about this a lot. You were a full back during the CTE era. Okay, in the NFC North. We understand. And we've heard the stories from A.J. hawk about literally every day in practice. Neither of you wanted to say, yeah, let's go easy even on that one. You take a massive shot. Shot in this entire thing. Neither of you wanted to go easy on each other. Cut from the same cloth. Speaking of cloth, how do you feel about Guardian caps and follow up? Do you think some of your toughness comes from growing up around the Amish people? I will hang up and listen to your answer.
John Kuhn
I got nothing to do with the Amish people. They were the other side of the river. I grew up in York, there in the Lancaster side. That's. That's where my wife grew up. So I know about that. I have no experience, you know, scuffling with them. None at all.
Pat McAfee
I do wonder how we do. I think you'd be the right guy for us to go take on the Amish. I think you would be the right guy.
John Kuhn
Really?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
John Kuhn
Okay. Yeah, fair enough. I know they can build the hell out of houses, so, I mean, they're competing right there. Very good. Very good with that stuff. Where does the toughness come from? Well, Pat, I don't know what you were doing at 8 years old, but when I was 7, 8 years old. I wanted to be like my older cousin who was playing football, tackle football at that age, Right. So we'd go in the back backyard and he'd have all his friends, he's two years older, and they would all beat the. Out of me because they were all bigger than me, right? So they were all. Two years. They had the head start. So they're all beating on me, beating on me. Oh, you get into little league football now. Now these guys don't hit too hard because I've been getting hit by my cousin, all his friends for years. So I'm kind of used to this stuff. And it's just. How often do you see kids playing tackle football in the backyard anymore?
Pat McAfee
I guess over here, remember, he's still walking. Like school and football practice over where they live in Ohio.
John Kuhn
Look, you still got them playing tackle football after Thanksgiving dinner. You had them go out there and take each other down.
Gumpy
Well, they, there's nothing organized about it. They just find a ball and they start tackling each other. There's no, there's no out of bounds or anything. It's, you know, you know the game they play. Hey, tackle the guy with the ball. You know that game?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
Gumpy
Yeah, Throw the ball and tackle that person.
Pat McAfee
Kill the person with the ball. Of course, I remember, Remember that game.
Gumpy
Knows about it.
Pat McAfee
But I appreciate the fact that you. Yeah, definitely. Obviously, that's.
Gumpy
That's what his cousins were doing.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's what his cousins were doing to him. So when he starts playing tackle football. But like whenever the era and the style in which you played, which is a lot of head to head con contact, when Dr. Will Smith comes out with his movie, the concussion movie, and then now they try to like evo. Okay, yeah. So what are your thoughts? Because, like, I have friends that when I watch that movie that played ball, played position similar to yours, I immediately like, I'm like, hey, you need the, you need to go get this checked out. And the immediate response is, oh, shut the up.
Ty Schmidt
Propaganda.
Pat McAfee
Okay. And then just move forward. You literally had to experience this, I assume, as a fullback through that era, with all the development of everything. Is there any conversations with family or anything that you have?
John Kuhn
You know, Pat, I'm a fun guy, so I like to say stupid from time to time. And every time something stupid would slip out of my mouth for about a 10 year period, it was CTE. He's got CTE. Everybody would just point at you and say, CT. And it's like, listen, I know I played fullback. I Know, I did that in the NFL. But no, it's not cte. I'm human. I say dumb stuff from time to time. That's all it really is. How do I feel about guardian caps? I mean, to each their own. If they wear them, they wear. I remember Dana Stubblefield, when I was watching football back in the day, used to have this plastic helmet that would go over top of his helmet, and it was like a guardian cap before guardian caps. How do I feel about the whole concussion settlement stuff? I mean, I feel bad for our older players who did not have the medical coverage that they needed to have, as they were. As they were post football for a decade or two. And, you know, the NFL has gotten better with the last CBA and some of the things that they supply to veteran players. And I'm proud of the NFL for taking that stance. But, boy, that concussion settlement and the way they went with the rules and the players safety and everything to give the image that the game is safer. But is the game really safer? Because watching Trevor Lawrence take that hit this past weekend, you can see every time you tell the people that the game's safer, it gives this inherent risk that we can go faster, fly harder, and really do things at the last minute.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, the game's always going to be violent and physical. I think that's what everybody's kind of realizing, you know, and there was that era where the NFL, I think, had to publicly say there's a problem because they were getting attacked from outside worlds, not just sports world. They were getting attacked from, like, the health department, politics were coming after them, the entertainment world was coming after everybody. So the NFL had to be like, yes, we acknowledge that we're making a lot of money off of these guys and there's a problem. But I think the water has kind of found its level. I think. I think it has kind of found its level. And I do believe, just like, to your point about the guardian cap, like, if that's going to make somebody feel better, do it. But the evolution of helmets and learning more about it, I think the sport is always going to be very violent, but I think we are getting to a better spot. But speaking of the sport being violent, there is a cyclicalness to football. And right now, Coon, your position is getting popular. Go ahead, con man.
Con Man
Yeah, Coon, how do you feel about the fullbacks now? Obviously, Ricard and Usczek have been doing it for quite some time in Baltimore and San Fran, but there's a few other guys kind of coming into form now. Scott Matlock for the Chargers, he's been kind of their utility guy playing offense, defense, special teams, everything. What do you think about the position now and where it's going to go from here on out?
John Kuhn
Well, take a look and see like, like you just said out there in San Diego, everybody knew Harbaugh was going to come into this thing and bring himself a full ct, right? They just knew. They just knew he was going to do it, right?
Pat McAfee
Ct.
John Kuhn
They just, they just knew. They just knew he was going to bring a fullback. With Sean Payton out there with Burton in Denver, you just knew he was going to bring a fullback with them because they want that type of physicality. They want to be able to run power, they want to be able to run lead, they want to be able to run the play action passes off of them. And a lot of this comes down to personnel matchups. Right? How do you get the defense to match up to your personnel groups and can you get them into the defensive personnel and the coverages that you want them to be in to combat what you're putting out there? And these, the physicality of the game today is not a surprise to me because as I was getting out of the game, 15, 16, 17, everything was just starting to rotate to that cover two shell. And I would beg, beg our offensive coordinators, run Eagle, run 11 or not 11 run Eagle, run 20, run, run. A fullback, a half back out there, three wide receivers, get them in nickel cover two and we're going to run on them all day. And it just started, it was on a cusp and nobody really wanted to jump into those deep waters at that point in time. But man, you've seen that really take off now. There's, there's no mistake that the resurgence of the running backs. Now just a couple years ago these guys couldn't get contracts. Now they're being talked about in the MVP race. So the dedication to the run game and that always starts up front with your offensive line. Those are two of the, the biggest reasons why you're seeing the physicality really pick up in the NFL this year.
Pat McAfee
Hey, so how do you feel about tonight's game, score wise? What do you think it ends up being tonight?
John Kuhn
Well, I think it's going to be a high scoring game specifically because of the defensive woes that, that the Lions have. They, they just have a lot of injuries and, and I'm not, I'm not going to discount their offense and Jared Goff being able to put some points on the board at home. So I think it's going to be a high scoring game. And I think if Jordan Love protects the football. The packers these last three games have made a jump, an absolute jump in the red zone offense. If they're efficient and they don't turn the ball over, I think Green Bay wins this one. I think it's going to be high scoring, though. And anything can happen in those types of games.
Gumpy
Hey, Coon, what's one or two players for us maybe to keep an eye on the people aren't talking about that might jump out tonight that people aren't talking about.
John Kuhn
That's hard because Packer social media talks about literally every single player. But yeah, I would go on the offensive side. Right. I think Don Tavion Wicks is primed for a big game. I do. I. I think it's time for him to make a leap, make a jump and make something happen. And not that people don't know him, because people know every wide receiver on the Packers. Tucker Kraft as well is somebody that I just absolutely love. You talk about physicality, Pat. Yeah, that he will eat a face. That guy is nasty. I love him. And then on the defensive side, J.J. enoch Barry and Lucas Van Esser, two guys that were looking for, hey, just. Just one more tick. With just one more tick of production and this defense can really start taking off.
Pat McAfee
When was the last time you ran your head into something.
John Kuhn
By accident or on purpose?
Pat McAfee
Just in general.
John Kuhn
See, you know, the other day I was trying to do some stuff outside. My wife has these really low sconces on the outside of the house. So it's really easy to just take a. Take a little piece of skin right out of the forehead on those things.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Especially with the size of that thing. That thing.
John Kuhn
Hey, by the way, since you're talking about, you said Sonic and Knuckles, but Jameer Gibbs, did you ever see the size of that guy's neck? Like he's got a neck like Tokyo Spikes. Like it just. And I don't know if he has a tiny head or just a huge neck. But. But take a look at Jameer Gibbs's neck. Like, I feel like he could be Knuckles as well.
Pat McAfee
Here's. You're saying Ron was discounting his Knucklesness. Whenever we're just. We're giving him just Sonic. That's like the Thunder Lightning combo. Brandon Jacobs in Ahmaud Bradshaw. And Ahmaud Bradshaw was supposed to be the Lightning, but like he broke his neck like three times, I think, because he would. Oh, he does have that triangle.
John Kuhn
Look at that thing. Yeah, look at that Thing.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Shrugs. We're shrugging. We are. Wow.
John Kuhn
Aj, he's getting on that machine used to get on and just wiggle the head sideways, about 54 way neck, man.
Pat McAfee
What was AJ like? What was AJ like as a teammate?
John Kuhn
AJ was the best. He was the best. He is an absolute monster. And you know, his diet was one that was rather interesting. I think it rivals Aaron Rodgers diet in terms of uniqueness. But. But he was an absolute beast. One of the best teammates you could have. And hey, I'll say this for a guy you know, that, that, that started a big time position. Mike, linebacker, a guy that started a big time position. Every special teams meeting from beginning to end, that was AJ Hawk paying attention, taking notes, coaching guys up. Yeah, he was that kind of guy.
Pat McAfee
Wow. Holy.
Chuck Pagano
Not surprised.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, not at all.
Gumpy
Got thrown in there. Had to get thrown in there. I got thrown in on a punt return once coon against the Cleveland Browns. And they ran a clinic on how to. Yeah, they baited me. I thought, oh, I'm. Here we go. I'm good to go.
Pat McAfee
Boom.
Gumpy
I'm getting knocked from the side, I'm getting picked. They're running games, laughing at me. I was better on punt team.
Pat McAfee
So you said never again? Is what he said. Yeah, never.
Gumpy
I never. I said, I'll try. You saw what happened to me out there, but you can throw me in there, but I gotta. I need to do something.
Pat McAfee
Oh, A.J. tried to. Yeah. He said, listen, I'll show up, I'll take all the notes, but you put me out there. It's seemingly not working out. You can continue to put me out there.
Gumpy
When I got on punt return, I realized these guys know what they're doing. They run, they. They have tricks that I have not been on punt return in the wild too.
Pat McAfee
And I think the way we heard the story, I don't remember who was from. But you and aj, Neither of you decided to concede today. There was no brother in line between you guys for like literally like seven, eight years straight. Is that true? You know, and.
John Kuhn
And the pisses me off too, to this day, because I still don't understand why neither one of us could give half an inch now. I would block. I would watch aj, you know, sashay through here and, you know, with other fullbacks. Corey. Corey hall and, you know, if you got match up on a linebacker, J. Michael Finley, he's just out there patty cake and hand fighting. But every time it was me, I had to put. I had to put that ride targeted right for his neck because If I didn't, I was going. And see, that's the difference. Because if you tried the brother in law with the wrong person and you guys weren't on the same page, you were taking one. And I. I was just never going to take one from AJ And I just think. I just think he knew I wasn't.
Pat McAfee
Going to do it, Chuck.
John Kuhn
And I'm still pissed about that.
Pat McAfee
Hey, we want to let you know, I hope if I ever am a general manager of a team or a coach of a team, that everybody has the same mindset there. At some point, somebody should have stepped in, been like, boys, we get it. Guys, you did it.
John Kuhn
Take it easy way.
Pat McAfee
There you go. We got tough guys. Okay, that's great. Go ahead, coach.
Chuck Pagano
I got a lot of pressure on me, John, to pick the right side in tonight's game.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he's on a bad.
Chuck Pagano
I'm on a bad night. I've lost probably, I think five or six in a row. But looking at the secondary for Green Bay. I know, Jersey out, right? Ballantine's out. So will it be in base defense when you got two corners out there, will it be Nixon and Valentine? And then when they go nickel, will they move Nixon inside and will it be Stokes at the other outside guy? How's that going to work, in your opinion?
John Kuhn
Yeah, yeah. And. And they've actually been cycling through Stokes and Valentine on the outside when they're in base as well, so. So they've been trying to find ways to get unique. Javon Bullard has been dropping down into the nickel spot quite a lot. Quite a bit, too, throughout the course of the season. He's a young rookie that's been shown a lot of promise there, but quite frankly, that that back end goes by Xavier McKinney, their coach. You put him back there, you expect him to get everybody lined up in the spots that they're supposed to be. And as long as he's back there calling stuff out, they're always going to have a chance. I mean, they lose a little bit of athleticism with Jair being out, a little bit of experience with Ballantyne being out. But these guys can all play football. It's the National Football League and it's next man up. And we talk about where they're banged up at the edge rusher, we're banged up at corner. I don't know which one is a better spot to be banged up at. And so far on your depth chart.
Pat McAfee
Okay, we appreciate you taking the time. I don't know what your schedule Is we're about to do a segment that I think you would love, if you want to hang out and kind of help us with, called ram trucked or you got to go. We understand. Either or.
John Kuhn
How long's I got till 3:30 Eastern Time.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time this season, we actually have two ram trucks that'll be commentating over a ram trucks segment. As you may have known, or if this is your first time watching. Up for Grabs is a 2500 heavy duty rebel ram truck. Obviously, it feels like you're on clouds when you're riding around. No matter how shitty the road or trail is, it's got the power to pull anything out of any situation ever. The technology is up to date, so you're flying around in style. And when you hit that gas pedal, that diesel engine goes. That is currently available enough for grabs. John Coon, do you know who could win that particular ram truck? John Coon?
John Kuhn
I do not know. Who would it be?
Pat McAfee
We don't know either. Each week there are four contenders from college ball from one side of this country to the other who have a ram hit in their game. Somebody will then tweet to us, hashtag ram truck, the name of the player, the time in the game, and the hit in which occurred. We will then scan through them. We will find three contenders each week that take on our one reigning champion. Let's get to this week's contenders. There were a lot of good one. First out of Kansas State, Ramses State, we have Ram Payne on the campaign. Pick up, double leg tackle, John Coon. Boom. That could be you. How do you feel about the Ram pain? John Coon? Man, I love that.
John Kuhn
And the running back even tried to get his pads down but couldn't even get him down fast enough for that defender. That's a big time hit. When you pull the heels up when the heels are coming up, that's a big time hit.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, a little scoop and dupe there. That's ram pain. That's the first contender for this week's Ram truck championship. Let's go to the Duck Truck 2.0. Ladies and gentlemen, running back Jordan James. In a rivalry game, John Coons sits his ass. God. Boom. Now, I believe he lowered his helmet. And that maybe should have been a penalty or could have been a penalty. It was not a penalty. Remember, these Ram truck hits cannot be penalized on the field. We do not want to promote nasty hits. John Code, you love seeing a running back do something like that.
John Kuhn
I do, and I think it's More impressive than a tackle, to be honest. You can't use your hands. You can't scoop the legs. And if you're knocking him ass over, Teacups. I like the run better than the tackle.
Pat McAfee
AJ how do you feel about the defense getting pounded by the Dark Truck 2.0, pal?
Gumpy
Well, I can't completely disagree with John. I agree. I. I played. I played running back growing up. Not in the NFL like John, but, yeah, I'm okay with it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but how do you feel about the running backs being able to do the.
Gumpy
It's garbage.
Pat McAfee
They.
Gumpy
If they call penalties on defense, they should offense, but I don't think they should call pennies on either team for lowering their helmet in that situation.
Pat McAfee
Okay, okay. You're saying the way it's ruled is garbage. But that play, certainly not garbage.
Gumpy
But if I get run over, if I get run over by a guy doing that, I don't expect. I'm not looking for a flag. I'm looking to, you know, get in the tunnel and get out of there.
Pat McAfee
I'm looking ahead home. I'm going to change my name. All right, let's go to the third contender for this week's Ram truck out of Colorado. Shiloh swam a nuke coming from the safety position, and obviously a first down is hat. And Ollie Gordon tells him that, but boom. Legal hit, shoulder to sternum. Boom. Ollie Gordon's big dude obviously picks up the first down. Shiloh has had a few of these that could have potentially been earlier in the year. They were all flagged for helmet to helmet, late hit and things like that. This one was no penalty. John Coon, how do you feel about that? Coach Pagano getting crossed, body gets a head on the altered side, stops momentum completely.
Chuck Pagano
Put it on a reel.
Pat McAfee
Love it.
Chuck Pagano
Hell yeah, John Coon.
Pat McAfee
That could have been you if Shiloh Sramders was coming down the middle.
John Kuhn
You know, I love it, and I'll tell you why, Pat. There are some times when your angle is not good or not conducive to really putting those pads down. You should really just try and take the bump and go in the other direction. Shiloh puts it all in there, and if you see it correctly, he does a little whirly bird himself. So he takes a little bit of it. I know what that feels like. You get up and you say, ah, shit. Probably shouldn't have tried to run through that one. But he does anyway because he's fearless. I like that aspect of this.
Pat McAfee
Oh, here's a little whirly bird. He doesn't end up on his back there. And then he gets up having a good time. He knows. He knows. His whole body felt that he connected on that one. Yeah. Wow. What a shot. From Shiloh Stranders. Now, do any of those three have a chance against our range training, defending undisputed shout to Paul Heyman. Ram Trump champion. They've been the champion each week for the last seven weeks. Jon Kuhn, this play right here from Mount Union, the Mount Boom. DB Weston Arthur. Boom Boom. Now that this Weston Arthur is obviously incredibly agile, durable, tough, physical. Just like a Ram truck.
Ty Schmidt
Hell, yeah.
Pat McAfee
And Western Arthur has been the hashtag Ram trucked king thus far. Will he be toppled this week by any of the three contenders? We shall see. You can vote on who should win this rebel ram 2500 heavy duty, beautiful piece of machinery from Ram Trucks at X. On the thread below this particular video, there is an option to vote. Now, there was a lot of votes last week. There were. Yeah, there's a lot of the cow. Equipment manager came in second, but boy, 16,745 votes, 42% to 41%, Mount Boom remains champion. Wow. They're saying there might have been some shenanigans. What some people are saying we don't know anything about that legitimately, we have no clue. But we do know these four contenders, including Mount Boom, whom will be available to be voted upon on X in a matter of moments. Who deserves the ramp truck? John Coon. I think you would have been on there a lot if we would have been able to do that. Ram would have had to pay a lot of money to the NFL for that to be the case. But nonetheless, out of Shippensburg, we would have. We would have found those clips as well. Coon.
John Kuhn
Vhs. Do you guys roll vhs? I mean, because that's what you would have had to have done. We didn't have those fans, fancy kind of recording devices. We were still using VCRs and stuff back then.
Pat McAfee
You being a Shippensburg alumni out of York, pa, Being a tough son of a. This is such an awesome thing.
Con Man
Legendary.
Pat McAfee
We appreciate you, Bob, Pennsylvania. Legend. Have a good one tonight. Good luck to your team and we'll talk to you again. Ladies and gentlemen, John co. See you, man.
John Kuhn
A.J. you deal with this every day, John.
Pat McAfee
What's gonna work, ladies and gentlemen? I don't know how long we could do the Coon.
Con Man
That's a good run.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
That's interesting because they're not booing you, you know. No, no, I understand. It's like Moose. Well, that is his name, Mo.
Ty Schmidt
I know. That's why I do moth. So you avoid the confusion.
Pat McAfee
What is the confusion?
Ty Schmidt
Well, you don't want to go somewhere and have you hear Mo and he's like, God damn, they're booing me. But if people are saying moth, then.
Pat McAfee
You know, that would be sweet little lisp at the end of sound. There's no L. I think there is. And yours I don't know about in real life. I don't know.
Ty Schmidt
I. I don't think so.
Pat McAfee
All right. Ram Trucked. John Coon. What a fantastic third hour right there. Right? Wonderful. How about John Coon, have a night? Wow.
Ty Schmidt
You think it couldn't get any better, you know, right?
Chuck Pagano
That cup.
Gumpy
Oh, that's the cup you get Fountain Pepsi in.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, maybe.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Boom.
Gumpy
No, they don't serve Coke there.
Pat McAfee
Then definitely Mountain Dew instead. Boom. We appreciate you. We gotta get. We'll get one of these sent to you. Came in a box. Mickey's Pizza Hut sent holiday glasses. And I'm like, oh, I open it. We almost fought them. Yeah. And I'm like, those.
Michael Lombardi
Wow.
Pat McAfee
Every day is a holiday when you're eating Pizza Hut. I guess. But, yeah, it is a holiday. This is the cup. This is it. It is. And we've been just chugging out of these things. Unbelievable.
Chuck Pagano
The best.
Pat McAfee
It is. I believe right now they have a special boneless wings special.
Chuck Pagano
Yep.
Ty Schmidt
Big bone.
Pat McAfee
All you gotta do is scan that QR code. Nobody out. Pizzas. The Hut. No one out. Wings. The Hut as well. And the boneless wings also very good. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Without a doubt.
Pat McAfee
We would like to go on record once again stating the bone in wings at Pizza Hut because they have fryers in their shops.
Chuck Pagano
Fried them up.
Pat McAfee
So they don't. This is a microwave situation.
Gumpy
No, no.
Pat McAfee
This isn't like a broil or oven situation. They have fryers in. So their wings can be great. And they are great. Bone in wings. We are big. The boneless wings, though. God. Go mild meat on here. And the sauces, which are on the bone and wings are also delightful on the boneless wings. So right now, there's a nice wingiest bundle from them. Sixteen boneless wings, two ordered fries, two dips for 15.99. That's a family meal. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Without a doubt.
Pat McAfee
For 15.99. Shot the pizza doing that. But don't sleep on the bone in wings. They're the best in town. Unless it's the town's wing place. Sure.
Con Man
Mom Pop shop.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Like, the local wing spot is probably Going to have the best wings. Okay. But other than that, Pizza Hut, their wings can compete with anybody. The amount of meat, the texture of the wing, and also the sauce, flavors, good flavors on it. I think they need to be. They need to be pushed.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Kind of push those to the forefront.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Because their Pizza Huts, obviously pizza is the best. Yeah. But their wings, real deal, top notch.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. I mean, maybe, you know, if you're a bit hamstrung on a budget, you're a college kid maybe, and you're thinking, hey, I, you know, I need just the best possible deal right now. In that case, you get yourself the boneless wings and you get. You get yourself, you know, a couple. Couple things of fries. But if you're thinking, you know what, I'll spend a few extra shekels, just a few, nothing crazy, then I'm going to get the bone in wings, and I'm going to. I'm going to, you know, appreciate that decision for a long time.
Pat McAfee
They're so good.
Chuck Pagano
I've been putting it to the test.
Pat McAfee
What's that? The wings.
Chuck Pagano
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
What? Have you been trying other places or you've been getting them to the house?
Chuck Pagano
Getting them to the house.
Pat McAfee
How good are they? Are they not the real deal?
Chuck Pagano
Oh, yeah, absolutely. I mean, you guys trying them here, I'm like, I never knew we had a Pizza Hut in Boise. And it's two minutes from my house.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. What a dream.
Con Man
So lucky.
Pat McAfee
What a dream. Chuck. Oh, my God. Two minutes.
Con Man
You son of a.
Pat McAfee
You can bike it over there.
Chuck Pagano
I could walk. Oh, steps. Pick it up. Walk it home. And then not feel guilty.
Pat McAfee
I seen it on Zillow. Actually, they started listing how far a walk is to the nearest pizza.
AP Tony
They do that.
Pat McAfee
And that's a good idea.
Ty Schmidt
Which makes sense.
Pat McAfee
They do, like, malls this far. Center of town. This far. Pizza Hut. Seven minute walk.
Gumpy
Schools. Schools in the area as well.
Pat McAfee
How far is Pizza Hut rating?
Gumpy
The three closest. Pizza Huts. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. If you want to move houses, I think that'd be a smart decision. Because that house automatically, in my eyes, that price value's going through way up here.
Ty Schmidt
It's the only reason I bought my house. There's a Pizza Hut within like five minutes. Geez, my last house. Guess what? Pizza Hut wouldn't deliver. Deliver.
Pat McAfee
Whoa. Moved.
Ty Schmidt
So I told my wife, I said, hey, sorry, we gotta move. And we did.
Pat McAfee
And I remember you. This house had a potential situation. Yeah. And who came through for you that night? Pizza. Hutton all the time.
Ty Schmidt
Who comes through for me every night? Pizza.
AP Tony
Seven days.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if we should be eating it every night.
Ty Schmidt
I don't eat it every night.
Pat McAfee
Okay, okay, okay. Every night you order it?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, every. Every night I order it, it comes through.
Pat McAfee
And every morning.
Ty Schmidt
Every morning that there's still some. Something left over and I, you know, need a quick pick me up for breakfast.
Pat McAfee
And every afternoon, wherever we're around here, you need a personal pan yesterday.
Ty Schmidt
Without a doubt, I did get a personal pan yesterday.
Pat McAfee
How could you not?
Ty Schmidt
How could you not?
Pat McAfee
You open your phone, go to doordash, and there's a personal pan staring at you.
Ty Schmidt
Please.
Pat McAfee
Perfect amount of cook on the cheese, so it has a nice little. You can tell it's been cooked. It's melted. But not too melted. You're not gonna burn your face. No, it's gonna be just right.
Ty Schmidt
Perfect amount of pepperoni.
Pat McAfee
Crispy pepperoni.
Chuck Pagano
Did you hear? Crispy pepperoni, pepperoni.
Pat McAfee
That's Pizza Hatini.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
What? What?
Ty Schmidt
You got something to say? Say the hell is that?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Anthony De Julio. You got something to say about, huh? Pizza Hatini.
Chuck Pagano
Nobody else.
AP Tony
Pizza Hut.
Ty Schmidt
Well said.
Pat McAfee
No, but cheers to you. Yeah, cheers to us getting these cups. Here's boys.
Chuck Pagano
Great cups, I guess.
AP Tony
Coach here, have some wine left over from two weeks ago if you want.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I finished it.
Con Man
Chugged it.
Pat McAfee
I would not recommend that wine every day of the week.
Con Man
Either would recommend it, though.
Pat McAfee
Age. No one out. Pizzas the hut. No one out. AJ's. AJ, Hawk.
AP Tony
It's true.
Pat McAfee
Boom. What is that?
Gumpy
What is boom?
Pat McAfee
Don't worry about it.
Gumpy
Here we go. Cheers.
Pat McAfee
What? Don't worry about it. Excuse me?
John Kuhn
Don't worry about it.
Pat McAfee
Don't worry about the thing.
Gumpy
Same like pre workout arginine situation. Just tastes good. You need something sweet with a cigar. It helps.
Pat McAfee
Oh, you're pairing with.
Gumpy
Just tastes good. Yeah, tastes great.
Chuck Pagano
The palate helps.
Pat McAfee
How much urine's in Pepsi?
Gumpy
Like fountain Pepsi or Fountain Mountain Dew at the hut.
Pat McAfee
Did you use water to mix with the aminos or is this the one you put the urine.
Gumpy
It's all water. There's no urine. No urine.
AP Tony
Is that Jack 3D?
Gumpy
Never been.
Pat McAfee
Never been in your hydroxy cut in there. You got hydroxy cut in there?
Gumpy
Yeah.
AP Tony
TRUMP Spring.
Pat McAfee
JACK 3D coming back could change a lot of things. What was that? Oh, what was the super pretty explode there? It was.
Gumpy
I know, Explode. I had to run with that. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yep. Oh, yeah.
AP Tony
It's all coming back. I talked to him.
Pat McAfee
To who? Cheers.
Con Man
Cheers to the Hutchins.
Pat McAfee
Cheers. Cheers. Thanks for the cup. What? What?
Gumpy
God, they still have those cups.
Pat McAfee
Oh, the best. What?
Ty Schmidt
The Holiday Cup.
AP Tony
Holiday Cups. I was.
Gumpy
I mean, that's crazy.
Pat McAfee
I was.
Gumpy
That's crazy.
Pat McAfee
I was very flustered.
Ty Schmidt
He's a clown. I mean, you know, he's a fool.
Pat McAfee
He's a performance.
Michael Lombardi
You know.
Pat McAfee
Speaking of clown, there's been some clownish picks, haven't there? Oh, boy. What's the record against the spread on Thursday night? 6 and 6. Who is this guy? We were chit chatting about how great this guy was against the spread. Holy. This guy's an anomaly. Yeah. Holy hell. This guy's seeing the board and then all of a sudden. He must have flew a little bit too close to his son because all of a sudden is Schneid started and he lost one game.
Chuck Pagano
What?
Pat McAfee
He lost two games, right? They lost three games. Five. He lost four games. He lost five games.
Con Man
What?
Pat McAfee
Can this guy see the field at all? People are starting to ask, yeah, I did like the ice cold photo, because that is how you are. But what I could sense underneath that outer layer of ice was a heater waiting to begin in tonight in the NFC North. Chuck Pagano bus out of this ice and goes back on a heater for the rest of the season all the way to the Super Bowl. Wow. That is what's on the line this evening. Because if he loses again, he's done.
Con Man
He's picking for his job.
Pat McAfee
Do we even do this anymore?
Con Man
Exactly. What's the point now?
Pat McAfee
All of a sudden, work we're creating, we're engineering losses. We are just like Tomlin says, we need to engineer a win, we're engineering a loss. Whenever we say, hey, listen. Listen to this guy. So tonight is the night. Do we ever see Coach Pagano again?
Gumpy
I hope.
Ty Schmidt
Me too.
Pat McAfee
Let's go to the board, Chuck. Lions favored by three at home.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Against the Green Bay Packers. Some say this is a must win for both teams if the Lions want home field advantage to the playoffs, which would be quite a benefit. Must win this one.
AJ Hawk
Must win.
Pat McAfee
Packers want to remain relevant in the conversation and in the NFC dance and everything. Must win this one. You must win.
Chuck Pagano
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I feel like you should feel like this is my sweet life or death.
Chuck Pagano
No, it is.
Pat McAfee
And I know you know it is. This is why we.
Chuck Pagano
This is backs against the wall. I mean, this is absolutely Dire Straits.
Pat McAfee
D I R E, by the way. Yeah. Interesting.
Chuck Pagano
Not. Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
I thought it was like dire, like. Yeah, like dire wolf, like, you're gonna die. Oh, it's not. It's like dire.
Con Man
The word dire popped outside your hotel.
Pat McAfee
Just 6:45am wearing a blue sport coat.
Con Man
I dream that happened to me last night.
Pat McAfee
It was crazy. Dude, the video is movie. Yeah. Deny, defend, depose. Depose.
AP Tony
We're going to find out about that guy real quick.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I guess I gotta pick. I thought he got out. Nope.
Con Man
Yeah, I gotta pick.
Ty Schmidt
I got pictures up his face already.
AP Tony
Not a guy, not a professional.
Chuck Pagano
This the guy with a machete?
Pat McAfee
No, this guy with the silencer.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, the silencer from 2075.
Pat McAfee
Did you see that? Don't watch it. If you didn't see it, don't watch it.
AP Tony
You should watch it.
Con Man
You don't want to know.
Pat McAfee
Just don't get into the insurance business. I think.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Con Man
Should be worried about January 21st.
AP Tony
Well, if you're in the insurance business, do your job.
Pat McAfee
We all need that. That was wild what you just did there. What he should. He's not dire. D I r e not die. Like walking outside of a Hotel. And 6:45am as the CEO of a healthcare company.
Chuck Pagano
And that's it. Game over.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he's very dead on.
Gumpy
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's in die. The diarist.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
The states rest in peace. Well, yeah. Rest in peace. Man, that is a hawkeye.
Chuck Pagano
What insurance was he really?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, United. And I think if I was at United and I was number two in command change something I'd be.
Con Man
I'm good.
Chuck Pagano
Hunkering in.
Pat McAfee
That was wild. That was crazy. The more we learn, the wilder it gets. I will say Bailey McCo had a personality profile on this guy within two minutes of seeing the video. Yeah, this got to be an assassin. This is something great. That kind of looks like an emotional.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Notice the gate.
Pat McAfee
The way he handled that, I don't think he's getting paid that much.
AP Tony
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Let the shell casings.
Pat McAfee
The way the reload. Yeah. The way he went about it. The mask too. He said. Feels like he's watching a movie. This is somebody who's not happy with that insurance company. That's literally what Bailey McComa says. As soon as we see the video.
AP Tony
Right.
Pat McAfee
Almost too.
AP Tony
Right in the middle of a video camera.
Pat McAfee
Almost too.
Con Man
Yes, Almost too quick.
Pat McAfee
It was. It was like as soon as he saw it. Personality profile, huh?
Chuck Pagano
Take himself.
Pat McAfee
No, he actually just walked away. Hopped on a city bike and then.
Ty Schmidt
See ya.
Pat McAfee
See ya. 6:45. There's somebody. They. They got photos of him from surveillance cameras. Allegedly. Obviously it's the Internet.
Chuck Pagano
But he's wearing a mask.
Pat McAfee
Mask hoodie, no gloves. Which I think Is to Bill's point. Bill's. Bill's big thing.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's not wearing gloves. Amateur. Because as soon as we see the video, as soon as the way the story was going on, like, oh, this is out of a movie. This is an asset.
Ty Schmidt
Like, this is Hired Gun.
Pat McAfee
Something's happening. This guy knows something. Blah, blah, blah. Like this can't be what real life. Holy. This is movies. And then that's my angle was thinking.
Ty Schmidt
Me too.
Pat McAfee
You know, just immediately was thinking that CEO and thing. And then Balam Comas is like, you guys got wrong. A little sloppy. No, that looks like.
Con Man
Wake up.
Chuck Pagano
This guy. They didn't give a claim or worked for this guy got fired.
Pat McAfee
I think it was a claim. I think. I think is what they're saying. Which and then made us all kind of learn about how it's all kind of happening. And boy, I don't know how there hasn't been more pissed off people.
John Kuhn
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
His wife said that he'd been getting death threats.
Pat McAfee
It's like John Q. You remember John Q for the heart surgery. Denzel. Sad movie. I cried that one where he goes to jail. How about when very sad, he starts flexing out there? Real. I didn't have a child at the time. When I watched it, I couldn't even imagine watching that now and then. What's this? Citizen law abiding. I think that is kind of what we got going on those two.
Gumpy
Oh, that was good.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. P.S. i love you, guy. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Jerry Butler.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Con Man
King Leonidas dog.
Pat McAfee
Oh.
Chuck Pagano
Oh.
Pat McAfee
How go to the. So what we need is. You need to win this. Hey, you better win. You need to get a lot on.
Chuck Pagano
Let's go to the tape.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, let's go to the tape. Let's go to the tail of the tape, shall we? For Chuck Pagano's pick against spread on Thursday Night Football.
Chuck Pagano
Interesting numbers, right?
AP Tony
Sure.
Chuck Pagano
Saw the. Against the spread. We went through that one earlier. Two explosive offenses. We know that. I'm with Kuhn on the fact that I think it's going to be a high scoring affair. Defenses are, you know, ranked up there. These two defenses, good against the run. All right. Detroit a little bit better than Green Bay. They both take the ball away at a. I mean a high, high rate.
Pat McAfee
Plus 9, plus 8 turnover.
Chuck Pagano
Plus 9 and plus 8 turnover margin. So points scored a game. They both can put points on the board. Points allowed. Detroit a little bit better than Green Bay. The turnover margin. We saw that. We talked ad nauseum about the players that are on IR significantly a Shit. Ton. More for Detroit than Green Bay, but they got some key guys. We talked about, you know, two guys on defense, right? Jaira, three guys.
Pat McAfee
Cooper, game records here. Yeah, Just go to the game records on the floor. Not good against Campbell there.
Chuck Pagano
They got a ton of game records. Right. There's so many explosive players in there. You got two great quarterbacks. You know, can Jordan not turn the ball over tonight? That's going to be. That's going to be the key. And there's both these secondaries. They can take the ball away. So there's a chance for some turnovers in this deal. You talked about Sonic and Knuckles, the runners there. Jacobs is a weapon. Watson and Reed, they don't have Dobbs, but they do. I like Wicks, you know, I like Wicks. And Kraft is a machine. And laporte is a. You got two of the best tight ends featured tonight. I mean, there's two of the best.
Pat McAfee
Quarterbacks, two of the best tight ends. I mean. Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
And that's why. I mean, you just look at that and you see defenses that are missing key pieces, especially the Lions, like, how are they going to. How are they going to perform? How are they going to show up and. And stop this run game? They gave up some yards right in the first game to Jacobs, so that'll be interesting. But these safeties, you know, we talk about. McKinney's got seven. We got, you know, Kirby Joseph's got seven interceptions. Branch is an absolute. You better, like, have your helmet buckled, have your mouthpiece in.
Pat McAfee
What did they say on NFL Films? Inside the NFL, Bill Belichick, to the full breakdown, it was abb. Anybody but Branch. Basically, like, you're throwing the ball anywhere but Branch, because I guess he is. He is the one on that defense.
AJ Hawk
He's an absolute dog. And in the first game, he got kicked out, if you guys remember, for that.
Chuck Pagano
I actually thought coach was talking about Joseph because of all the takeaways. I don't know if he got twisted on it, but they're both. They're both lethal. He's only got. Branch don't have the interceptions that Joseph does.
Pat McAfee
Abb, I think, was the name of the segment. Anybody but Branch.
Chuck Pagano
Okay.
Con Man
Yeah, I forgot about that Fox. You just said he got booted early against the packers in the first game. Branch did. He got kicked.
Chuck Pagano
He got knocked out. They threw a little pass on the sideline. He came over there and rattled this guy's cage.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Chuck Pagano
It was a weird play out the game.
Pat McAfee
Let's go back to that first Game. What are some things you think that these teams are going to be looking at from their Week 9 matchup look at?
Chuck Pagano
I mean, again, we go back and talk about Green Bay. What they, the only thing they didn't do is they didn't get in the end zone. They were 1 for 4 in the red area. They go right down the field on the first drive. Seven minute drive. Foxy talked about it and, and they, they got a wide open angle. Route number 30. Brooks Right, the running back got him on a wide. They bring pressure from the court from Jordan Love's right side and he, and he misses. And he misses. They got to settle for a field goal and then it goes back and forth. Detroit goes down and scores. They have other opportunities. We're going to see some. So you see the numbers. And other than, you know, third down, they were three at 12, 25% in the red area and they had the one pick six. I mean, this game should have been a hell of a lot closer than it was. I mean, you make four trips to the red area and you only come away with with one touchdown. I, I can't see that happening again. You saw, you heard coon talk, right? About their red area last three weeks. Excuse me. How improved it's been.
Pat McAfee
Yep.
Chuck Pagano
And. And Jordan loves back in there and he's starting to feel it a little bit.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I didn't. That coon point was pretty interesting. He was like towards the end of the year last year he played his best ball because he was like finally figuring it out. Then this year he stumbles out of the gate with the injury early and he gets back and he's out and he's like, like he's finding his group. That was an interesting take that I could certainly get behind. Like, hey, the guy's finding his rhythm when he wasn't able to at the early part of the season. Right. Time to find his rhythm. Toyota Thon.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Every year.
Pat McAfee
Every year.
Ty Schmidt
Or at least last year and this year. But yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's become an annual tradition. Yeah. All right, let's go to some plays from this previous meeting on week nine. Here, here's Jordan Love.
Chuck Pagano
Oh.
Pat McAfee
Which.
Chuck Pagano
Okay, here we are. Yeah. So this is a third and three situation.
John Kuhn
What?
Chuck Pagano
Hey, really?
Pat McAfee
Hey, listen, I know there's two.
Con Man
You need to focus. Don't. Don't. Little noise here.
Chuck Pagano
Walk in, Tiger straights, third and three situation. He ends up, I think, you know, checking this thing down. It looks like he's supposed to look off. They're going to. They're showing man coverage because in third and two to six, 90% of the teams in the National Football League, Pat and the boys, they're. You got to play sticky coverage. You got to play tight coverage. They're showing middle, close. They're going to try to roll to a. A disguised Tampa 2. Watch the middle of the field open up right about the same time that Jordan dumps this thing to the back here to Jacobs, because it's only third and three. So he's thinking, okay, Coach probably told him, hey, just dump this thing off. Look off to the left, blah, blah, blah. But look at the middle of the field. Something that they could certainly come back to tonight.
Pat McAfee
Okay, okay.
Chuck Pagano
Something that they could certainly come back to tonight is that Watson running down the middle.
AP Tony
Yeah.
Con Man
Yeah.
Chuck Pagano
So, I mean, when you do this, if you don't get enough depth as one of those guys disguising, wow, what a big play. This is the one we just talked about, Pat. Okay, you got the back. It's third down and five in red zone. Driven down the field. Alert, Alert. They know they got the matchup that they want. They bring pressure from Love's right side. They've got a free runner, all right, but now they get one guy picked up, and he panics a little bit, he drifts away, doesn't have his feet set, and he throws a little bit behind Brooks here, and he can't make the play. That should be a touchdown right there. It should be 7 nothing right now, but instead they got to settle for a field goal. So I don't see it's as little.
Pat McAfee
As that the last.
Chuck Pagano
The last three weeks, right? Rhythm, timing, chemistry, confidence, Mojo. All that stuff coming around for this kid. I don't see him missing that tonight. This is an absolute. This is unguardable. This is like. Like if I'm coaching this db, right? This is Nixon on. On Saint Brown, one of their game records. You can't. You can't play this any better. And he comes off on the sidelines. Hey, great throw. Great catch. What do you want me to do?
Pat McAfee
What. What is.
Chuck Pagano
You know, just keep. Next time. Hopefully that Goff can't make this type of throw. He puts it where only one guy and one guy only. This freaking alien St. Brown can make this throw. This catch.
AJ Hawk
4Th and goal.
Chuck Pagano
4Th and goal. Thank you, Foxy.
Pat McAfee
That is Goff's throw, though. They love that throw.
AJ Hawk
Anytime we need something, it's sidelined to St. Brown every single time.
Pat McAfee
All right, let's talk about another missed opportunity.
Chuck Pagano
I think that makes it seven three, right. So now you come up, it's fourth and six and you got what, a 45 yard, 46 yard field goal here and boom.
Pat McAfee
Only miss of the year thus far.
Chuck Pagano
Only miss of the year.
Pat McAfee
Only one.
Chuck Pagano
Only one. And it should be seven, six game right here, right?
Pat McAfee
Yep.
Chuck Pagano
So what happens is they miss that and they go down and get a field goal and then you get this happen to you. I mean it should be a one point game right now, 7 6, but instead they miss the field goal and now this turns into now 17 three at half. And you know you're playing from behind against a great Lions team. You don't want to do that because all they're going to do on the other side is take the air out the game. Pound the rock. Pound the rock. Pound the rock. They did have an opportunity late in this first half. They went back down through a 40 yard clock run out. So they didn't get any points.
Pat McAfee
So 173 instead of 76 is what you're saying.
Chuck Pagano
Exactly.
AJ Hawk
And then the Lions got the ball after halftime and I believe they went down and got a field goal or a touchdown right after.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I got a touchdown. It was like a 10 minute drive. Took the air out of it and it was 24, 3 and that was the game.
Pat McAfee
This was one of the first things that Chuck wanted to talk about this morning. AJ and as soon as he was bringing it up I'm like, oh, it feels like I know which way you're headed in this particular game. Chuck, would you like to make an official pick? At this point the packers are either getting three or three and a half depending upon what the book is saying. At this exact moment they're checking three, three packers plus three Lions minus three Lions at home 11 and one taking on a nine and three Green Bay packers division game.
Chuck Pagano
This is going to be a field goal game. This is going to be a tight ass game. I mean I'm not wouldn't be surprised if Green. I'm going with Green Bay. I'm not going to be surprised. I think there's just too many injuries on this Detroit and if anybody can overcome it, like I told Foxy this morning, like it's this Dan Campbell led Lions unit. But I just think at some point the war of attrition is going to catch up with this girl group from Detroit and to nobody's fault.
Pat McAfee
No, that is nobody's fault. We need to make sure that is.
AJ Hawk
Reiterated charge to the game.
Pat McAfee
You might have like a fifth stringer and at D line at some Point tonight if a couple injuries happen.
Chuck Pagano
Which. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Which have been happening in the games. Yes. Been losing guys each week on that defense in the same exact area a lot in lafleur.
Chuck Pagano
Right. Six years head coach there. Right. He became the all time. Second, not the all time, but second winningest coach in the history in the first six years of his tenure.
Pat McAfee
Wow. Congratulations.
Chuck Pagano
He just passed like cower and I mean like some absolute hall of fame legend. Coaches.
Pat McAfee
I don't know.
Chuck Pagano
He's number two now in history, I don't think.
Pat McAfee
Wow. LaFleur dog guy's a winner. He also isn't scared to get the.
Con Man
Crowd proud of even in Detroit.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He'll do it tonight. Especially at the pack eyebrows.
Chuck Pagano
How do you think them eyebrows are going to be tonight?
Pat McAfee
Phenomenal. Yeah. Prime, brother. It's on Prime. Yeah. It's going to be top notch.
Con Man
Sure Herbs there.
Pat McAfee
Remember how Michaels is there? He called us back.
Ty Schmidt
Pete, the Dogs.
Pat McAfee
Why didn't he answer? Why didn't he. Why didn't Kirk answer us earlier? I don't know.
Con Man
Probably busy playing catch with D. Pete taking a walk.
Pat McAfee
Maybe D and Pete and Kirk are all playing catch.
Con Man
Working on his nine.
Gumpy
They bring their glove?
Pat McAfee
No answer. He called us. Middle of show too. Probably had something to say. I missed it maybe giving us a piece of information that makes you believe the packers are going to be able to keep it within three or the Lions going to be able to do what they've done to a lot of teams. Beat the hell out of them, regardless of who. Who he plays. Y. A.J. are you with? Yeah, of course. All right. A.J. do you like the Lions or the packers tonight?
Gumpy
I like the Pack. I was. I was going packers to begin with, but then when I see Chuck not waffling at all.
Pat McAfee
No. Yeah.
Gumpy
I feel good about it.
Pat McAfee
Chuck put me on the packers plus three as well. Oh, I don't like that all of us are doing that. But I think the packers are playing very good and I think the Lions are very bang up. And I don't think this is an indicator that the Lions aren't going to have success this season. I still think win playoff game and everything like that. I agree. But I think this packers team is about to say, hey, excuse me. We would like to be a part of the conversation when everybody talks about who can go and who can. And I think tonight's one of those nights and I'm thanking the heavens, the Lord Jesus Christ, everybody else, Amen. That we get Lions, packers to kick off week 14.
Con Man
Amen.
Pat McAfee
This is Hell of a game. All right, let's get the hell out of here, aj. Can't wait for you to be here tomorrow while I'm down in Atlanta for the SEC championship. College game day, obviously. Saturday morning, 9am Eastern from the convention center down there. Last year was the same spot, huh? That's good. That's. That's the best in all of. That's the best one. They have controversy, though, about his what's or who's, so they need to sort that out amongst themselves before Saturday. Sure, they will, and they will. And they've already beat Texas at Texas. They've already done it. They just went through an eight overtime game with Georgia Tech. Are they callous? Are they ready? They want to win an SEC title or not?
Ty Schmidt
I don't know if their quarterback cares if they win or not.
Pat McAfee
I'm worried about some of the stuff that's coming out there, the way things are being worded. It's just a kid.
Ty Schmidt
Just kid.
Con Man
You're gonna fire that pace?
Gumpy
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
All right. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change their life. We're in this thing to get. Shout out. Hey. It was announced gonna be back with the WWE starting January 6th. Calling Monday night Raw on Netflix. What a honor it is to even be asked to be back and to be a part of this. And obviously, I had to, you know, step away from the commentary. Taking table with Michael Cole whenever the college football season started because of having a daily show and then also game day on Saturday. I don't know if I would have survived if I continued to call Monday Night Raw. I was bummed out when I left. I love the wwe. It is the most fun place that I've ever been in my entire life. Working alongside Michael Cole is like an actual honor. Like, I'm working with a goat here. Okay? Not just whenever you come to talking into microphones, but this dude covered the Bosnian war, was over there for, like, 40 days, locked in a war zone. He was the first person to talk to David Koresh whenever he was working CBS radio. I think he's won, like, fucking awards in actual journalism. Then he gets dropped into wwe, and the guy, as of late, has gotten a chance to take a vacation for the first time in, like, 25 years. His work ethic impeccable. The way he goes through a show, awesome. His preparation, sweet. And he. He's got you to actually want to have a beer with. With a shot of whiskey inside of it.
Ty Schmidt
Hell, yeah.
