Pat McAfee
Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to our humble abode, the Thunderdome on this majestic overreaction. Monday, March 3, 2025. This program starts now. Sports are magical and we're lucky that we get to talk about them every single day right here on ESPN, ESPN, Disney, YouTube and TikTok Live. The second hour of today's show will not be on ESPN. We'll be bumped to ESPN2 for spring training baseball, which ESPN is lucky to foreign talks table at Boss Conrad Ty Schmidt did we know that spring training baseball is happening right now?
Ty Schmidt
I certainly did, but I did not, I did not think we would be getting bumped to the deuce for spring training baseball. Although Red Sox, Orioles, it's a big tip. That's a big kill. It's a massive tilt. There's a chance, I don't know who's gonna play. Usually a lot of these spring training games. You're getting about, I don't know, 10 to 15 guys who will not be on the big club in, in the summer. You know, these guys are kind of just getting their, getting their juice out.
Pat McAfee
Shout out to baseball, though. Baseball found that out about five minutes before we went live. And I was like, hey, it's all good. We're excited the sports are happening because the football season is done. But the football drama is only kicking off even more now. We're fresh out of a combine weekend and we'll break down who had a big time weekend here in Indianapolis and who maybe faltered a little bit? Well, Howard, who is potentially going to be moving up in draft stock and who's potentially going to be falling back to being an insurance salesman. We shall see in the middle of this drama time now, there are some teams that potentially are going to make some cuts or some moves because of a salary cap adjustment. We're in the middle of a lot of action right now. Speaking of, we'll be talking to Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams in about 13 minutes or so. Massive story out of last week as Matthew Stafford is back with the Los Angeles Rams. We'll ask him about how we got there. What was the conversation like with Matthew on Friday morning that led to him getting extended, getting more money and coming back to the Rams, who were just one play away from beating the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC divisional round. Then in the second hour, we'll be joined by Justin Jefferson. He's launching something that's incredibly cool called flight school, where it'll be invitation to high school wide receivers to come do one on one workouts and Basically like an elite 11 Manning passing academy type thing for wide receivers. We do not know all the ins and outs of it, but he is obviously best wide receiver in the league. But if he was to team up with his other LSU guys, just LSU guys, you're talking about Ja'marr Chase, Malik, neighbors, let alone if Odell Beckham Jr. Was to come back, everything else. Mason Taylor, Jason Taylor's son, who ran the perfect gauntlet at one point straight down the line with it. If it's just an LSU thing or if it's just a Justin Jefferson thing, this is great for the future of football. We'll also talk to him about the situation currently happening in Minnesota. Who's going to be their quarterback? Speaking of quarterbacks, a lot has happened over the weekend. We'll chit chat about it all now. AustinConnor sitting there next to Ty Schmidt, Combine weekend is a glorious one. What's your big takeaway from Indianapolis?
Boston Connor
My big takeaway is probably that, you know, the more we shit on these guys, the less they're going to do it. You know, we talk about how bad we want everyone to go throw, everyone to go compete. You know, basically it was a big time, oh, Will Howard's the guy weekend. It felt like people just sarcastically burying him. Hey, if we do this, we're going to continue get a combine that's just watered down that no one does. And then when it gets to pro days, what are we gonna say? Well, this was just a routine. They do this every single day. You can't really, you know, prove anything out of pro day anyways, who cares? I think everyone just needs to take a deep breath. You know, you retweeted a post about Sean mc. Not Sean McVay, excuse me, Sean Payton, talking about Bo Nixon. That kind of. I don't remember that from last year. But that was a really cool little insight about, you know, Sean Payton basically saying about Bo Nix from his combine day last year. I believe he was talking to Peter Schrager.
Pat McAfee
Did you know then that Bo Nix was the guy? We didn't at that time. I would say that decision probably was finalized or we felt real strong. Wasn't just the. We had a pro day on Friday and then Saturday we had a private workout. And I think that Saturday after this private workout, we felt like that was our target. Yeah. At this time, at this point in time, we didn't. And he. He really didn't throw well. Is that right?
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You remember meaning. Well, here are a couple things I can recall. So for years in our league, the footballs were never broken in. They come right out of the box. That's a challenge for a college quarterback. I mean, they're slippery. They're not broken in. And then you get in here, the temperature maybe is a little cooler than you think. It's air conditioned. And so learning all of those things, getting adjusted to that. Don Yee's obviously an agent that I've worked with throughout my career, and he had this young quarterback, Tom Brady, and he asked me, can you call Tom and just tell him what to expect at the combine? And this was like a favor. And, yeah, there was no. The. The prep that they have now is. Is so much different than just 20 years ago. And the understanding of what's to be expected, how to handle the interviews, how to handle the medical part of it, how to handle these drills. I've seen players that have bad ball skills that are outstanding through the gauntlet, and they've just worked on it so much. So, again, it comes back to the medical information that's most important, and then the interview. All right, congrats. Another playoff season and we'll see what happens next year. Appreciate you coming down here on the field. It's nice to be down here and see some live action, right? Absolutely. Yeah. The Sweets are fine, but back in the old Hoosier dome, this is where, like, you went out the exit and it was inflated, so you had static. Your hair was kind of static cling and everything. That was a good setup. That's it. All right, Sean Payton, great breakdown of the combine as a whole, but I think what you're saying is nothing that we know now is necessarily what's going to be the case whenever it comes draft time. A lot of meetings, a lot of still road to the draft. Is what you're referring to Khan, man.
Boston Connor
Yeah, exactly. Plenty still to be proven. And there's nothing better than a Pete Schrager laugh at the combine.
Pat McAfee
Love, Shrek. It was good to see.
Boston Connor
Great to see Schrager. He is, man.
Pat McAfee
Pete Schrager. Did you see him? Oh, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
He looks. He looks great.
Pat McAfee
He does.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Boston Connor
And he's over in LA a little bit more now, so I think there's always a chance. But he's still bringing it, as always.
Pat McAfee
He is. But Sean Payton talking about how Bo Nix wasn't even really their guy. And then obviously they have meetings that they get rolling, he becomes that. That's a big piece. Whenever we're judging these guys fresh out of the combine, and yes, I'm talking about Will Howard. Okay. I'm at elimination chamber. What an event. What an event. What an event. We will certainly talk about it. Why John? Why John? Why? Because John's looking to become the all time leader in World Championships in the history of the wwe, you know, and the final boss always has a plan. I don't want to dive into it too much right now. We will certainly talk about at some point. Great kick to the dick of Cody. I mean, just perfect form. Knee drive straight into the X. Boom. Right into Cody. And then Travis Scott really brought one that he did with some sage in hand, smack in the face. And then the final boss given the kill sign. Certainly interesting with the two up there, you know, with the. I mean, there's a lot to be said about elimination chamber also to Canada. I would like that. Yeah. I mean. Oh, no. You saw a soul get sold right there.
Ty Schmidt
No, John.
Pat McAfee
Oh, no, John. Sound, sound, sound, sound. No sound. Okay. Miss it. This is the pop of that place. Whenever he kicks him square into balls is absurd because I think a lot of people, you know, maybe missed the face that John Cena gave to the Rock because it was on a Jumbotron over here. So not everybody in the Rogers center kind of knew what was taking place. Everybody at home kind of maybe knew a little bit more in the place. I think some people saw it. You see a guy in the back, he sees the video because there's a Jumbotron. You see him go, no, no, no. And then whenever Jon kicks him. I think it was a massive surprise at a moment in the arena, obviously, massive surprise to the world and something that none of us could have ever expected with John Cena. You know, John Cena has made a living on hustle, loyalty and respect. He has given out the most make a wishes in the history of make a wish. Now everybody's saying this guy's breaking wishes. He's break a wish and he kicks Cody Rhodes, the American Nightmare, after he tells the Rock to go fuck himself right in the balls and solidifies himself as a bad guy going in to WrestleMania after winning the elimination chamber, which he said he was going to do at the Royal Rumble. And he even said it was best for business, which all these clues were there that this was going to happen and we're just sitting along for the ride. I had no clue what was going to happen. Obviously they would never tell me anything. I'm the lowest member of the totem pole. I don't think anybody really had a clue what was about to happen. And nobody could have expected which Is why it was such a magical ending to elimination chamber. Now Cody Rhodes got punched in the face with his own Rolex. That's tough for that to happen. 40,000 right to the face from John Cena. And how long has John Cena been waiting to do this?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, man.
Pat McAfee
Let out a little bit of aggression, you know, because there was a time where Cena's super good guy. He comes out and they go, let's go, Cena. And then the other half of the place would go, cena sucks. He's like, I'm here every night. I literally commit my entire life to this thing. 20 years, I show up, taking bumps, beating up my body, saying no to everything else. And some of the WWE Universe would boo him and say that he sucked. Now he gets a chance to kind of take out all that anger and frustration. And we watched it. He bonked Cody in the head multiple times. With a title that he's going to try to win for the 17th time at WrestleMania, the Final Boss couldn't have been more confident. And Travis Scott, just living a dream. Travis Scott's like, welcome. Welcome to the crew. You know, to John Cena. What a moment. I was lucky to be there. Now, Canada, listen, there's been some things said to me from Canadians that I guess I respect because of the passion that you have for your country, which I hope you understand that I was showing the same for mine. You booed my country. Now, I heard from a lot of Canadians during the national anthem, obviously, the Rogers center, overwhelming boo. I mean, very loud boo. First reaction whenever national anthem starts up there was for some of these Canadians just to start booing. And I'm like, what? Okay. My entire life, my first reaction when somebody booze the national anthem is fuck you. Yeah. That is my. I'm very thankful that I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States of America. I'm very proud that I am from the United States of America. And is everything perfect? Absolutely not. But my dad went from being a truck driver to a millionaire because he taught his son a work ethic and that anything is possible on this land here in the United States. Now, I know that we're not the only country that has that happen, but in my life, that is the case. I've also moved out here to Indiana and got a chance to meet a lot of military members. I've been to a lot of bases. I know Gold Star families. I know people that have been affected for fighting for our country that really see the national anthem as like, our. Hey, this is our shit. So anytime I've ever heard somebody boo our national anthem, my natural reaction is, let's fight. That is literally my natural reaction. Now, a lot of Canadians have told me, why don't you do a little investigating on why we're booing? Okay? Did you hear what your president said? Okay, listen, I understand there's political differences at the current moment between us and Canada, but I feel like anytime I think of Canada, I don't think of what Justin Trudeau does. I don't think immediately of Justin Trudeau's decisions. I don't think immediately of what Canada is doing in the political sphere. I think of the people of Canada. I think of gumpy. I think of poutine. I think of the magical times that I had up in Niagara Falls as a teenager at the Wild Mushroom, the old casino, the new casino. So I even talk about the adult ballets that maybe introduced me to a lot of things in life. I think about loonies and toonies in good times and Mounties allowing teenagers puke in their streets because maybe we're a little bit overserved. That's what I think of when I think of Canada. I don't think of Justin Trudeau. Okay? So I understand now from the Canadians that they have a lot more passion for their country than I could have ever imagined. A lot of terrible things have been said about me, and I understand it. You boo my country. I called your country terrible. Let's shake hands. Okay? You said you didn't boo every member of the United States or every citizen of the United States of America. Well, I didn't say that Canadians are terrible. I said your country was. So you booed us? I said, you're terrible. Let's shake hands. Let's move along. That's what I would like to say. And I still love Canadians. Okay? We got one in the building. Literally. Hired right off of a ship painting job in the Northwest Canada. Brought him in. His diction, his accent, the words he says, the way he says things I think exemplifies what Canadians are as a whole. His attitude, his peace, everything like that. So I don't. I love Canadians. But my first reaction whenever you boo our country is, okay, let's fight. And I. I'm sorry. So let's go shake their hands, Canada. Boom. I hope it gets settled. Now, I will do a lot more research into the political preferences of every country that is in part of a sporting event where there's going to be a national anthem. Because if that's what we're booing people for or booing anthems for. I didn't know that was the precedent going forward, but okay, we all understand that now. So with that being said, what an event in the Rogers Center. Oh, man, what an event. What a night. Both elimination chambers, Jade doing her thing. I mean, it was a magical night up there and it ended with that staring us down. Now Travis Scott is right over the shoulder there, which a lot of people were wondering about, but I thought he looked hilarious. They're burning us here in the entirety. But it was a magical night up there and I was lucky to be there, lucky to be a part of it. I love any time I get a chance to work for the wwe. With that being said, I looked down at my phone, I get a text in the group text while I'm in the middle of this and it's from Bailey McComas and it's a clip from the NFL saying, Will Howard's having a day. So I look down, I'm so pumped. I'm like, let's go Will. Let's go, Will. Retweet that thing, send that thing out. I'm like. And I watched the first couple highlights. I'm like, that's good ball. That's good timing. That's great timing. This is what the NFL posted. That's good ball. Leading the guy. Now, granted a little bit of an overthrow, but if that guy's a little bit faster, maybe not an overthrow, maybe if he runs a different round, non overthrow drops in a bucket right there. How could you ask for anything better? Ball's coming out of his hand pretty well. How much strength does he have? Well, he throws a deep ball to a guy that's on a line. I'm like watching these clips, I'm like, holy shit, Will Howard had a damn day. Turns out they really cherry picked these. Terrible day, terrible day out there. And I'm still a believer. But that's why that Sean Payton video is so important. We have no idea what's going to take place going forward, but we are appreciative to everybody that worked out, everybody that did their thing. On that note, one half of the Hammer Cowboys, AP Town. And back with us, ladies and gentlemen, nine year NFL vet Darius J. Butler here. Great to see you.
Darius Butler
Glad to be back.
Pat McAfee
You look so cool. Very thankful you are back. Tone D. Buch, who are some of the guys that we need to think about over the weekend for the combine who had a good one as opposed to, you know, the ones that people are talking about saying these guys might be selling Maybe jeans at Hollister coming forward.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, let's go back to Thursday where it's all started with the, the D line and the linebackers. It started with the Landon Jackson who was 662 7, jumped 40 and a half inches and ran a 46 was just insane. James Pierce later that day, the edge out of Tennessee, he ran a 447 at 245. He's going to lock in as a first rounder. And the winner of that day on Thursday was Texas A and M D lineman Shamar Stewart who basically had the exact same numbers as Miles Garrett. Working out at the combine to 40 inch vert, was 65270, 1011 on the bra and ran a 4640 debut.
Darius Butler
Yeah, absolute freak show question here. You guys talked about on the show last week, you know, production, production questions about how do you only have four and a half sacks and three years in college. But even with that being said, he'll still be a top 10, top 15 pick. When you put on a show like that, you have those measurables, you have those, that freak show over showing at the combine, you will go top 10, top 15 because these coaches, these GMs will take a chance on you.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Let's go to Friday when it was the tight ends and DBs. Pat mentioned Mason Taylor who was, who was awesome. Also tight end Terence Ferguson. We talked about him on Friday out of Oregon. He tested. He was the number one tight end in all testing. He dominated. And then Nick Eamonworrey, the safety out of South Carolina, just an absolute freak. He was 6'three 220 with a 43 inch vert. It ran a 43 8. He was absolutely moving. The fastest DB of the day who we actually talked about on Friday as well was Maxwell Harrison out of Kentucky. He ran a four two eight with a 39 and a half inch vert. And then the for sure first rounder out of Texas, Jade A. Baron. He ran a four three nine which was a, was a great time for him.
Darius Butler
Yeah, we saw, we saw him play against Ohio State during this run and great, great corner, big corner, can play inside, can play outside, play slot, play safety and play the outside corner. Last year where he won the Jim Thorpe award, obviously that's awarded to the best DB in the nation. So I think this guy is well, would be a top, you know, probably 12, 15 pick. I can see him at the Saints, I can see him at the 49ers. A big physical corner that can cover and that can show up in the run. Game and tackle. He showed he wasn't scared all year long. Physical, physical player. And I didn't expect him to be that explosive or test that well here in Indy, but he did. So he made himself a lot of money.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Let's go to Saturday, which I believe is the most exciting day of the combine is the quarterbacks, the running backs and the wide receivers. Let's start with the wide receivers. Missouri wide receiver Luther Burton had a had a really nice day. A lot of people thought he ran faster than he would at 4 4. Both Iowa statewide receivers, Jaylen Noel and Jaden Higgins, they both had a really nice day. Dante Thornton, the the wide receiver out of Tennessee, he is 65205 and he ran a 43 flat which is just absurd at that size. But the day the guy that probably made the most money on the day was Texas wide receiver Matthew golden who ran a 429 official solidified in his first round debut.
Darius Butler
Yeah, made himself a lot of money. Now he could do everything. He could run routes from the inside, he can run routes on the outside. He ended Texas number one wide receiver. Bond went down, transferred from Houston, went to Texas, played his ass off. But I once again, another guy did not expect to go sub 4 3. I know his teammates said he was going to break. You can't talk that and go. He didn't run a bad time. He ran a good time when you come out and say that. But with that being said, golden, golden special special receiver, he'll be probably a wide receiver two or three off the board.
AJ Hawk
Let's go to the running backs who a lot of people say is is one of the deepest positions of the draft. They proved it on Saturday. Daniel Jeremiah said literally every single running back who ran and worked out performed well. Like there was no one who worked out bad. But some of the highlights. Bial tuton, 59206 out of Virginia Tech. He ran a 432 with a 40 1/2 inch vert. He was the fastest running back on Saturday, which was awesome.
Pat McAfee
With David Spade on the call. Daniel Jeremiah, who had a fantastic weekend by the way. Great work boys.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, David Spade looks super cool in those sunglasses.
Pat McAfee
And thanks for coming to town. David Spade did a fundraiser for a local organization here, I think for free. So we appreciate the hell.
AJ Hawk
Thank you, David. A lot of people thought Trayvon Henderson was going to test really well. He did okay. But a lot of quin. Sean Judkins at Ohio state. He was 6 foot 220. He looked good. He ran a 448 in the 40, which I think surprised a lot of people him being that fast at that big and then the exact same height and weight. Six foot 221 out of UNC. Amaron Hampton, who a lot of people's number two running back behind Ashton Genty. He also ran a four four, six. So those big boys were moving.
Nick
Yeah.
Darius Butler
You mentioned number two running back. I've been hearing some saying he could possibly be the first running back off the board which would be crazy with the season that Astro Genti had. Boise State being a Heisman runner up. This guy is freaky talented. His numbers, freaky athlete as well. Back to back years of 15 rushing touchdowns on the ground. I mean just a special, special talent coming out of unc. So yes, it was surprising to me to hear that he's the top running back on a lot of offenses. Board probably has something to do with his, his pass protection and being able to catch the ball out of the backfield. So he's a full three down running back. That should be another first round.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, overall it was, it was a great combine. Some of those, those were just some of the guys that stood out. We'll talk about some of the quarterbacks later.
Pat McAfee
When yours spun it. He did. That's right. By saying same with Jackson. Dart had a great one kid from Louisville struggled a little bit. Will didn' best day. I assume the meetings were fantastic, but there was a couple quarterbacks who actually chose to throw who had big time days. We cannot bury every quarterback that has a bad day out here though because none of them will throw. That is just a matter of effect. So congrats to these boys. Joining us now is a man whose opinion matters a lot more than ours. Yeah, he's super bowl champion head coach, Ohio guy, former Mack wide receiver, greatest hair that a head coach has ever had. Ladies and gentlemen, from the Los Angeles Rams, Sean McVay.
Sean McVay
It's about time you guys had me on.
Pat McAfee
On, man.
Sean McVay
You have all my guys on. I'm sensitive. This is the first time I've been invited on here with you guys.
Pat McAfee
Hey, shout out to artists. Okay. He and I had a great conversation.
Sean McVay
Shout out to artists.
Pat McAfee
Shout out to artists. Making this happen. And also thank you for making time for us, especially in the middle of a very busy time, I assume for you. Let's talk about what we just went through with the combine. You're one of the first coaches after you guys won the super bowl and said, you know what with the way technology is, I'm going to stay back. I'M actually not going to go to Indianapolis, but our scouting personnel and everything else like that would travel out there. What is the combine to you, and what should we take away from everything that we just kind of rattled off right there for you in your mind, Sean?
Sean McVay
Yeah, no, it's all a valuable part of the evaluation, but I think, you know, the trust that we have in our scouting staff to be able to vet these guys, to be able to use this as a piece for our evaluation. We're a little bit behind the curve with coaches, so the most important thing is let's evaluate the tape. Let's find out how these guys are wired from a mental perspective, and so we can just get more done staying back. And that's. It's a product of the trust that we have in our group to be able to continue to vet, continue to learn about them. And so it's a valuable piece, but the tape is the most important evaluation for us.
Pat McAfee
When you get a chance to chat with these guys, what's the number? Obviously, tape has to match and be good to qualify them to be somebody that could be a Los Angeles Ram. But when you talk to them, what is the type of player that you're looking for to be a part of your culture?
Sean McVay
Yeah, as you would say, we're looking for dogs. I mean, we want guys that are wired the right way. I think the biggest thing is, hey, how do you measure some of these intangibles? By learning about them from their background, by seeing, all right, hey, when you've had adversity, how did you respond from it? What does that really look like? Are you wired the right way to be resilient, to have tangible examples of being able to bounce back, use setbacks as set up for comebacks? And I think you've seen that reflected the last couple years with some of these guys that we drafted. You look at Jared Verse and Braden Fisk, they epitomize exactly what we're looking for. Kobe Turner, Byron Young, Puka Nukua. You know, these are the kind of guys that there are kinds of guys that are mentally and physically tough, and. And they love to compete, and they're not afraid to continue to just swing, even if shit's not going our way.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I love to hear that. I think that's a necessity in football. I think you got to be tough physically and mentally. You rattled off a bunch of guys that we're massive fans of in such a quick amount of time in the NFL with the way you guys built this roster, and we'll talk about Matthew Stafford here in a few moments. But with the way you guys did make that big play to bring in Matthew and kind of go all. In the Aaron Donald era, you guys win a Super Bowl. On the other side of that, you have to hit on young talent. Les need has to be able to get in young guys that are cheaper, you know, even though they're making a lot of money in the professional football players. But whenever you talk about a salary cap, you have to be able to hit on those young guys. Why do you think Les has been so good in doing that? And also, how good does it feel that you guys are one. One play away? Now, granted, Jalen Carter just said you guys aren't doing anything, and we'll talk about that at the end of the. The end of the division round with the Eagles. That way, you guys. I mean, Puka makes that catch. Holy shit. The Rams just gave up that touchdown from Saquon where he's punching his head in the snow, and they're still almost coming back and winning this. And I know almost sucks and everything like that, but with how young your team was, almost in a transition era, to have that much success, how good does it feel to be where you are right now and then obviously getting Matthew back, How great of a move is that in your mind so you can sleep at night?
Sean McVay
Oh, it's huge. That was always the end goal in mind.
Pat McAfee
Pat.
Sean McVay
I think when you talk about what you're asking about with less, you know, going into year nine now together, I think there's a real rapport that we have in terms of what are the kind of guys we're looking for, being able to identify having flexibility in regards to what does that roster build look like you talk about after the Super Bowl? I think in a lot of instances, we were kind of forced just based on the parameters, like, hey, these guys got to play. And it taught us as coaches, hey, let's be patient. Let's challenge these guys. But I think you start to see things in guys that maybe they didn't even see in themselves. And then that confidence can compound with good experiences. We're getting better and better. I think we're able to learn from our mistakes and keep stacking good decisions. But, you know, that that game was a. Was a battle back and forth. I think we all felt like we were winning that game. 29, 28. Ultimately, they got it done, and they look pretty damn good in the NFC Championship, in the super bowl, and that really chat my ass, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I could See, yeah, the Philadelphia Eagles just became an absolute wagon, just beating the hell out of everybody except for the Los Angeles Rams, which is what the conversation was whenever we were hearing that Matthew Stafford was able to kind of go and listen to what the rest of the NFL was saying, both financially, in what situations were available. Everybody was attacking it from different angles, obviously, because it's Matthew Stafford and it's the Los Angeles Rams. But a lot of it was what is going to be a better opportunity to win, and it feels like you guys are set up to win right now. Is that what you're telling Matthew Stafford when you meet with him on Friday, or how does that conversation go, inevitably, for him to end up staying and extending as opposed to going elsewhere?
Sean McVay
Yeah, I think we always felt like that was the end goal, Pat. And really what it boiled down to was there was some mistakes where I had some growing up to do some things I could have handled better in the midst of going back a few years when we traded for Matthew and sent Jared to the Lions. And so it was about communication. Let's be clear, open and honest. Let's have the dialogue. Let's understand the end goal in mind is always to get you back here. And so that's really what that entailed. I think there was a lot of narratives out there, and because of the caliber of player he is, there's a lot of stories. But I don't think either Matthew or myself ever really felt like this was a direction we weren't going to go. And sometimes when you really care about people, you can have real conversations. And I think it's going to be even better moving forward. And when you see what ends up coming of it, you're going to really see, man, this is a selfless decision on his part, and this is really good for the Rams for how we move forward and keep building around him, with him being able to play, you know, his best and the most important moments, and I sure don't take that for granted.
Pat McAfee
I assume you just alluded to what the contract is actually going to be whenever it is announced, because it was reported, I think, by Rappaport after he got his ass beaten at Starbucks but did not call, but he did not call NFL security, and there was no physical altercation, but I think he reported about the amount of money that he turned down elsewhere to stay with the Rams. And we all just kind of jumped about how bad moving sucks and, like, what is the tax to even pick up your family and move somewhere else. But also, if he sets up his contract. Right. He can continue to build with this Rams team. I think that's what you were alluding to there. Am I taking that out of pocket or no?
Sean McVay
Yeah, no, no, you're exactly right, Pat. And that's the thing, I think, you know, you want guys to feel great about where we're going and choose and do these four years of equity that we built up means something. And then that was demonstrated by the action. I always tell our guys, I see better than I hear. And I saw him and his family make a choice to stay with us, and that sure means a lot to me. And we're a lot better football team because of it.
Pat McAfee
That's a great line. Hey, I'll see what the fuck you do more than I hear what you're saying you're gonna do. I love.
Sean McVay
I knew you'd like that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's a good bar right there. I assume you got a lot of them. A lot of success very quickly. Gotta have a great brain. On that note, D, Bud has a question for you. Coach.
Darius Butler
Yes, sir. So we talked about, you know, you've been in Ohio, guy. I know you played your high school football down in Georgia, where a lot of people know the story. You beat out Calvin Johnson to be the player of the year in Georgia.
Pat McAfee
Hell, yeah.
Darius Butler
And then you go on. You go on to be a coach. What? What?
Pat McAfee
That's absurd.
Nick
And that is.
Darius Butler
That is crazy. You're the top player in Georgia, beating out Calvin Johnson, unguardable.
Pat McAfee
This little white guy.
Darius Butler
I mean, dual threat quarterback, he was the first of the exciting whites. But that being said, when did you know you were going to be coaching possibly in your future? What coaches had the biggest impact on your career coming up?
Sean McVay
Yeah, I mean, I've been really fortunate. But in terms of just being around guys that were willing to invest in me, my grandfather was a huge influence on me. My dad's one of the best leaders I've ever seen. You know, the one thing I will say about the Calvin Johnson thing, I think my dad was the head of the voting committee.
Pat McAfee
A little nepotism award. We love that.
Sean McVay
Hey, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story, though, right? So it's. I will say this, though. You know, being able to get into the business as early as I did, you know, my grandfather, the Gruden family, being able to work for Mike and Kyle Shanahan, and I just been so fortunate to be around people that said, hey, let me put my arm around you. Let me teach you. And then you see what it looks like to do it the right way, and. And that's been a huge thing that I don't take for granted. I realize how blessed I am, and really, it's all about it goes back to the grand. My grandfather and the legacy he set for our family.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Football. Family. Football guy. And we got some football highlights of you. Calvin Johnson had no chance. You see what this guy's doing? You see what that means? Are doing terrible. Terrible. Yeah, right.
Sean McVay
Hey, look at the DBs chasing me, man. I mean, this is.
Pat McAfee
This is.
Sean McVay
This is. This is not the same level of competition that Calvin had.
Darius Butler
That's a strike.
Pat McAfee
I don't know, though.
AJ Hawk
Look, that was like 6A Texas.
Pat McAfee
That wasn't your best throw. Look at the form. Look at the form. High ball, good drop.
Sean McVay
Hey, this is. I got some better ones than these, though, man. We got to get some real ones.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you, we did not create this. We certainly found it. That was a dime. Listen, stop selling yourself short. You're dead. Dad's. Your dad said, listen, my vote might be worth two, but the boy had a good year. The boy had a. Look at the knee drive. Hey, let's have a little bit more respect, Sean. Dog. I'm.
Ty Schmidt
I'm.
Sean McVay
Any sudden movement right now, I'm pulling my hamstring for sure.
Pat McAfee
Do you still. Do you still run routes and stuff in practice? I remember that story coming out.
Sean McVay
I get out there. Oh, yeah, I've been working out with. With Whitworth at his gym, trying to. I haven't worked out like this in a minute, but I'm trying to stay like you guys over there.
Pat McAfee
Well, I'm taking science. You should do the same thing. Ty has a question about coaching in those who coach with you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Coach, I'm sure you've heard the adage now where it's like, someone gets hired and it's, hey, they had a cup of coffee with Sean McVeigh. That's the reason, you know, that they're getting a head coaching job. You've had a bunch of assistants get head coaching jobs elsewhere. Obviously, one just happened this year as well. At what point did you recognize, like, hey, I better not get too comfortable with my assistants because. Because they're going to be looked at in a pretty solid light from what they've done here, and they're going to get out of here and get opportunities elsewhere. And how difficult is it?
Sean McVay
Yeah, it is difficult, but I will say this. When you're in the right headspace, it's the Best thing that ever happens. Because all these guys, whether it's the Kevin OConnells, Raheem Morris, you look at Liam Cohen end up getting a job, Matt LaFleur, Zach Taylor, you know, these guys have been instrumental in our success. They poured into me, into our group.
Justin Jefferson
Group.
Sean McVay
And I think when you really look at it, what it does is it attracts high caliber people. I'm able to always learn from the guys that come through here. Does it make it challenging that basically everybody's been here in some form or fashion, they're sprinkled around the league? It does, but it's also the most rewarding thing. And, you know, you can see that the culture is translatable to what's authentic to these guys. There's an urgency, there's an enjoyment with how we go about this stuff. And I'm so proud of those guys and just proud to be a, a small part of their journey. But it is a pretty cool thing.
Pat McAfee
How old are you now?
Sean McVay
39.
Pat McAfee
You're an old grizzled vet now.
Sean McVay
I know. I'm going into year nine now. I'll tell you what, this coaching is like dog years. I mean, sometimes I feel like I'm 80 years old and you know, there's certain times where I say, hey, let me just come on as a guest and kick it with you. But I love this stuff. I mean, it's the best. It really is. And, and I think having a little boy has given me a perspective that has really changed the way you go about it. The appreciation, the purpose and the perspective that's necessary. And that's a pretty cool thing.
Pat McAfee
Pat, becoming a father is amazing. I have about to be a 2 year old baby girl or a toddler, I guess. Now I don't know all the titles. You fucking get it. But she's about 21 months old. Gonna become a 2 year old. Didn't know if I ever really wanted to have a child. You know, I thought I was a little bit too selfish probably to have a kid. My life a little bit too busy. Then I meet my wife. My wife would be the perfect mom. We decide to go about it. We have this baby girl. She's the greatest. I assume you feel the exact. It is. I don't know how I.
Sean McVay
Listening to you say it. No, you're right. It gives you real purpose. I mean, I'm embarrassed to say, because you're so involved in your career, you're a little bit more selfish. And it's about you and man, it gives you a perspective. And I'll tell you what, like, it makes me love my wife that much more watching with the way that she is with him.
Justin Jefferson
And.
Sean McVay
And, you know, it's a reason to say, what does it look like how you treat a woman, you know, for him to see as a young man growing up. And it's the best. He doesn't care when I come home if I've had some shitty play calls or not. He just sees that and he's smiling. And I said, you know what? It's going to be all right, isn't it?
Pat McAfee
Do you ever have any of those shitty play. It feels like you always. I mean, you're not.
Sean McVay
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so you're nine years into this. 39. Obviously we all remember the super bowl against the Patriots and that's like talked about like, like Sean is beatable, but all these guys that get hired are because they think that they're going to be able to bring your offense over or your ability to move the rock over. And we're in an offensive heavy league now. I will say you changed the entire league by far quickly, not only with the influence, but the offense and what everybody is doing. But is there a time where you think, like, you're getting beat by people, you're getting outsmarted by people, and how much is the game changing currently to a more power football as opposed to more wide open football?
Sean McVay
Shoot, I mean, it's amazing when you look at when we got here in 17 to what it is now, and you just talk about the influence of the run game, the defense really making an emphasis on putting a roof over the coverage and trying to be able to stop some of these ways that you can get over the top vertically. And then you look at the evolution of offenses and the shift of personnel and how you run it and what does it look like now? It all goes in circles, but. But I think the best adjust and adapt. Like one of the biggest things I'd say. You know, obviously it stings to lose to Philly, but I got a ton of respect for Vic Fangio 2018. They were the best defense. When he's running The Bears defense 2022 or 2024 this past year, he's running the Eagles defense. You see foundational principles that are in alignment with what he's always been, but it was illustrated in a different manner. That to me is greatness from a coaching perspective. Adjusting and adapting, that's what we try to do. What we were in 17 to, what we are going to be this year is going to Be a lot different. And. And if you don't adjust and adapt, you're going to get exposed. And you alluded to that Super Bowl. That was a humbling night. You go from boy wonder to boy blunder in a matter of 60 minutes.
Pat McAfee
There's another bar there. I assume you use that before. Boy wonder to boy blunder. It was great to see you on that big stage. And we did wonder, I think, like, is he ever going to get back or is now the blueprint out on how you stop Sean mcvan is the blueprint out. And instead, what do you do? You get back, win another super bowl, continue to evolve, continue to build. That's awesome. You talked about Vic Fangio. They said his career was over whenever he was down in Miami. That Philadelphia Eagles defense is going to look different next year. They have officially released Darius Slay from the Philadelphia Eagles, which will save them $4.3 million against the cap. Okay, so that's the first cut here, as we're in the salary cap gymnastics season here. This happened while we were talking to Sean. Not going to put Sean on the spot here to make him make a decision on whether or not Darius Slay would be a good member of the Rams or your thoughts of him as a player. But that just happened. Feel like people should know. Let's move along. Connor has a question for you, Coach.
Boston Connor
Yeah, Coach, I'm a Patriots fan, so thank you for laying that egg. I was at that game. It was awesome. It was a great win.
Sean McVay
Thanks, Connor. I appreciate that.
Pat McAfee
No problem. No problem.
Boston Connor
You got one after, so who cares? But when it comes to working with less sneeze, how does that relationship go? You know, I mean, it's a bad example, but when a player does get released or someone's available for trade, is that something where, you know, you'll text him and let him know? And then when it comes to the draft, you went from, you know, kind of fuck them picks with less need to. Now it seems like every year you guys are getting an all pro verse puka. Kind of the list goes on. But how's that relationship working then? Who picks the really cool house that you guys go to for the draft? Because every year that thing is awesome.
Sean McVay
Yeah, no, it's definitely cool. I would say that's Kevin Demoff and Tony Pastor is deciding on where we end up spending those drafts, but it's been great. I think the best thing I can say about it, Connor, is you just look at the adaptability, and we've always seen the game through the same lens. I remember when I was interviewing for the job, we had an immediate rapport. He works at it. He's not afraid to talk about his evaluations. He's not afraid to acknowledge his mistakes, to own in terms of what does it look like to build a team, not just collect talent. And I think you've seen that, you know, over the years, you know, evolve and adapt. You know, we were kind of forced to do that, like I was talking about earlier after the 21 season, but it's been great. He's a stud. I really appreciate the way he works at it, and I think we both have such a strong relationship that there's comfort in some of those conflict conversations. But we always come to a compromise, and then whenever we make decisions, it's us collectively moving forward. And I'm grateful for him. There's nobody else I'd rather be leading alongside.
Pat McAfee
What you say nine years together?
Sean McVay
Yeah, this is year nine.
Pat McAfee
That's awesome.
Sean McVay
Crazy.
Pat McAfee
The Rams draft house. Isn't that the one of the thing you guys are hanging out?
Sean McVay
I think we're going to do something cool with the fire department this year, which will even be cooler, you know, just based on everything that's going on. So I don't know if I let the cat out of the bag, but, hey, screw it.
Pat McAfee
Hey, I appreciate that you guys are doing it. It feels like everybody from LA is stepping up for the community, which is a beautiful thing to watch. Let's talk about that. As that's all taking place, it's happening like tail end of the season there. What is the mindset of how do you reach out to the families that are affected? Like, how has the Rams kind of handled all the fires and the devastation? I mean, just absolute devastation.
Sean McVay
You don't even feel like it's real life, Pat. And in a lot of instances where it started was far enough in proximity that it didn't really affect too many people. But then once they start trickling over, and I can remember we're having basically our Wednesday practice leading into the Vikings playoff game, and you see this smoke.
Pat McAfee
In the distance, and.
Sean McVay
And this is an area where a lot of players and coaches live, and you're thinking, wow, now this feels really real. And it felt real. But when it's physically in proximity and now people are having to evacuate their homes, man, that's just way bigger than football. And I can't say enough about really our organization with the Kronkies. You know, so many people deserve a ton of credit for being able to say, all right, hey, let's gather, everybody. Let's make sure that we're able to get to Arizona. You know, Tyler Higby had a great line when we were boarding that flight and people are bringing, you know, all their family. You know, some animals were on there. It was like boarding Noah's ark, going to Arizona. But it was, it was an incredible display of the team coming together. And really what I wanted to see from our group, I wasn't worried about necessarily winning and losing, but let's represent, you know, let's be a group in terms of how we compete, how we represent this city, for what it looks like, for what's great about sports. And our guys did that really each of the next two weeks. And even though we came up short of Philly, I'm damn proud to be associated with that group. And, and, and that was some real stuff that's way bigger than football.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, beautifully stated. And thank you for sharing all that behind the scenes with us from watching along, because obviously captivated. And by captivated, I don't mean that in a positive way. Captivated all of us about the devastation that's happening and how quickly everything can kind of take place and now life happens as well. So you got to keep rolling ahead. You're 39, but the way you speak is that of like a 65 year old old. So profound in the way you talk is great. Which is why everybody, ourselves included, think that you're going to go to tv, you know, and you look at Madden, what Madden was able to accomplish in such a quick career as a young guy with the Raiders, and then transition into tv, transcending society basically into a football place. His name is going to ring, you know, synonymous alongside the NFL forever because of his work in the booth. And then obviously as a coach, how much do you hear the noise? And whenever you get on TV or get in one of these interviews, immediately afterwards you go, God, I just killed that. And just keep it rolling. Like, what, what is your, what is your mindset towards it all? Because you would be great for the game, brother. You'd be great for the game on a microphone.
Sean McVay
I appreciate that. That means a lot, you know, because I'm fancy, you guys. I was kidding, you know, I wasn't really kidding. You know, I'm glad to come on here and finally start this up. Hopefully we can make this a little bit more. More normal now. Amen.
Pat McAfee
Amen.
Sean McVay
I love coaching. You know, the one thing I will say is, is what I don't take for granted. Even when we were Talking about having our children and, you know, the influence and the impact that you can make where you're really being transformational instead of just transactional. And that's what I love about coaching. Is there interest in that stuff?
Pat McAfee
Of course.
Sean McVay
But I think we got some more stuff that we want to accomplish. I love the group that I'm doing it with, and if that is an opportunity down the line that represents itself or presents itself, then I'll be, you know, I'll be. I'll be humbled by it, but I'm pretty damn happy doing what I'm doing and love what I'm doing.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's pretty evident. I mean, I think they were. Rumors are like 25, 30 mil from Amazon for one game a week on Thursday night. That was alleged. That was alleged. Obviously, if it was that kind of.
Sean McVay
Number, then maybe we have to second guess that. But call me back, Amazon, if that's.
Pat McAfee
Where we were, I'll publicly negotiate for you anytime. But I think that number is only going up and up with the way football is. And you talk about, you know, you've been able to do some good things. You want to continue to build on that. We have a graphic of everything you've accomplished, dude. To say you've done great. Remarkable is the word.
Sean McVay
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
We have a Rams fan who happens to be the graphic designer who pieced this together dirty in the back, and he's like, that's cool. After piecing it together, it's like a lot more respect needs to be given to what has happened in such a quick time, especially in the NFC West. That's not a easy division at all. Congrats on everything thus far, coach.
Sean McVay
Appreciate you guys finally having me on.
Pat McAfee
No, we're not done yet. We're not done yet. Not done yet. Okay. Unless you want to leave. All right. You want to leave? No.
Sean McVay
Hey, I'm ready to roll.
Pat McAfee
That's why we love you. Yeah. That's why, you know, that's why everybody.
Boston Connor
Loves Quick on his feet.
Pat McAfee
Now, we just wanted to point out all your accolades there and show it to you. So, you know, hey, a lot has been done here. If a microphone does present itself, you know, maybe we go ahead hall of Fame in both of them, but with the team that you have, there are some decisions that have to be made every single year that aren't easy. I would assume Tone has a question for you.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Coach. Nothing's final yet, but a guy that you did all those things, things with Cooper Cup, I know is. Is potentially going to be Traded. He's been with you for all of those years. How hard was that decision?
Pat McAfee
And.
AJ Hawk
And how do you feel about Cooper cup as. Just as a human in general?
Sean McVay
Yeah. I think the first thing you acknowledge is the impact this guy's had on my life. Most importantly, as a human, I'm a better person for having been around Cooper cup, obviously, his production. He's such a baller. He did so many great things for us over the course of his career, and we've been through a lot together. And I think one of the things I've always appreciated about Cooper, he was one of those few people that he always. I know he loved me enough to be able to tell me what I needed to hear, not what I wanted to hear, and really challenged me. And I'm better for having been around him. His legacy is cemented as a Ram. It was arguably as hard a decision as we've had to come to since I've been the head coach here. And so you don't take it lightly. He was such a stud in terms of the dialogue and being able to have some of those real conversations. And he's going to do a great job wherever his next stop is. But, man, those things are very real, very challenging. But, you know, you always talk about, oh, you separate the personal, the business. Now it's all intermixed. And you love him enough to be able to tell them, you know why. But you always preface it with, hey, I could be wrong here. I've been wrong before. And all we're trying to do is make the decisions that we think are in the best interest of the collective. But this guy is such a stud and love him and appreciate it more than words can express.
Pat McAfee
He was a great wide receiver for you guys. He won the trust triple crown and also the Yak, I believe.
Justin Jefferson
So.
Pat McAfee
It's the top four stats at one historic year and historic run the nine to Dime podcast. Obviously, he and Stafford grew very close. Hell of a run as a Ram. Excited to see where he goes next. Some team will be very lucky for him. And before we let you know what is right now, what does today look like? Are we watching film from the combine? Are we watching film from other. What is the next like, yeah.
Sean McVay
So really, we're in the midst of trying to get a couple of our own guys signed, you know, because now next week represents the, you know, the legal tampering period or whatever the hell they call it next Monday. But with our guys, we can get them done. And so we got a couple guys that we Want to try to be able to get signed. We're studying draft guys and then we're going to start to dive into scheme. You know, we've got all of our coaches here. It was a light turnover year. We got six new coaches, so that was a light turnover. I mean, you know, it's wild. You know, this is the first year that since our very first season that we've made the playoffs, that we didn't lose somebody directly from our staff that got a head job. Every other year we've made the playoffs other than our first year. In this past year, we've lost somebody directly from our staff. You know, Liam gets one from Tampa, but you're talking about directly from our staff with Zach Taylor, Brandon Staley, Kevin O'Connell, Raheem Morris. Four years. You know that we made the playoffs in between those first and last ones. Pretty wild.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. We talk about what happened in Philadelphia. They've lost offense coordinator, defense coordinator. Having to turn that over. Trying to re. Implement a culture, reimplement everything with a new voice in charge. Not easy. You've been able to handle it pretty well. You guys also lost somebody in the front office. Are you worried about Gladstone? Little baby face coming in and just sniping all of your guys a stud?
Sean McVay
Man, don't sleep on Gladstone. He is, I'll tell you what, this guy's a smart, sharp, articulate dude. Love the way he sees the game. He's got a great delivery. You know, he's. I. I'm so much faster. He's got this nice, patient, calm delivery. I said, man, I just want to listen to you talk. He's a great teacher. I'm fired up for James Gladstone. Congratulations to James. Go help Liam get this thing right in Jacksonville.
Pat McAfee
He looks like he's 12, though. That's. That's his thing. He looks like he's like a gamer. He looks like he's a 12 year old. But hey, listen, you had the same thing whenever you became the head coach of the Rams looking like a young lad.
Sean McVay
You'll love this, Pat. When I was. When I was the OC for Washington, when Jay Gruden was the head coach, I get hired as. As a 27 year old, the OC for three years. I decided to shave my beard one day and he's like, bro, you can't do that. You look like you're 10 years old. Nobody will take you serious. You got to grow that back immediately.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that makes Gladstone might want to paint one on like he's Hulkster. Whatever the case, that's right. We're excited to see it all work out. We appreciate you joining us, man. Hopefully this is the first of many. Yeah.
Sean McVay
Hey, would love that. Appreciate you guys having me on.
Pat McAfee
Big fan, ladies and gentlemen. Gentlemen, head coach of Los Angeles Rams. That was really cool. Sean McVeigh knows the program.
Boston Connor
Weapon. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Electric.
Pat McAfee
That is electric.
Boston Connor
Yeah, those highlights, too.
Pat McAfee
And we would be okay if we were the ones getting credit with dogs. Yeah. You know, we nowhere near created. Been around a very, very long time, but as a person that got a front row seat to watch a lot of football as a kicker and as a punter both in college and the NFL, team's a lot better when you got a bunch of dogs versus whenever you don't have a lot of dogs. That's just my simple view of football breakdown and him being like, same brother. I. I feel the exact same way. Need dogs. How do you find out if a guy's a dog or not? The combine, legitimately, that is like the most. You can't.
Darius Butler
You can't at the combine.
Pat McAfee
I think that's the most important piece of information. Legit.
Darius Butler
Yeah. You can talk to them in the background, like. But for me, it's like the players that play with them probably that are already on your team or in the NFL, coaches that have coached them and then turn. Like you said, the most important part of the process is the film. You turn on the film, you can tell the guys that want to compete. And once you get to the combine, if a guy doesn't throw it and run or doesn't do drills that didn't tell me anything about who they are as a competitor, you turn on that film, you ask the people around them, and you'll. You'll get your answer pretty soon.
AJ Hawk
I feel like a lot of it has to do with where you, like, come out of. Like, it used to be Bama, but now, like, you know, like the Eagles. And Howie, he trusts taking Georgia guys because he knows if they are starters and if they are good enough to. To play and to get to the combine and to the draft, they're like, oh, this guy has to be a dog. Just coming out of that program with Kirby, so I feel like definitely the pedigree and, like, where you come from, stuff like that, you know?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I agree. How you're taught, you know, that's like Bill Belichick's big selling point down there in Lombardi. It's like, hey, whenever you get a UNC guy, you're going to get a pro. You're Going to get a guy that's ready to work. We're going to kind of do the sifting out of personality for you. I think that's a good thing to have as a university now. Well, they have enough patience to get to that point. You know, like, it. It takes a little bit, especially in this new world with the transfer portal and nil and the ability to bounce. If you're not happy after, I don't know, a week, you can just kind of do your thing. Will UNC be able to build it quick enough? I hope so, obviously, because we love Lambo and also, you know. You know what's happening. You know, more than anybody. Yukon guy, you talk about a hard edge.
Boston Connor
We want to.
Darius Butler
Are we sure we. You still trusting the climb, Right?
Boston Connor
Right now?
Pat McAfee
We're not trusting. No, we are not. We're doing hill climbers, brother. We're not just trusting to climb. We're doing the damn climb. Okay. It's a little bit different. Thank you, Neil Brown, for your service to West Virginia. You're an absolute kind man. With that being said. Yeah, we. We. It's going. We. We're getting dogs back in Morgantown.
Darius Butler
Okay.
Boston Connor
Okay.
Pat McAfee
Okay. And maybe there were a few that were there throughout the years. Obviously, Neil was able to produce some NFL ers. And Zach Frazier, obviously the most notable up there in Pittsburgh. I have nothing but respect for the guys that came out of West Virginia through the Neil Brown era. It's just gonna be a little bit different going forward. You know, we'll be looking for a little different attitude, a little different mindset, a little different workouts, a little different practices, a little bit different. Everything, you know, is happening out there. From what I've been told, it might take a little bit of time and it might take a little bit. Might need a. Might need a, you know, up here.
Darius Butler
About three, usually year three.
Pat McAfee
That's what's happened with Matt Rule. He's thinking up there in Nebraska has happened in the past. It's not easy to build a culture or reset a culture, but when you do it, you got gold. And when you have it, hold onto it forever. Do not let it out of there. That is why him being 39 years old, if he wanted to run the McVay culture at the Rams for the next 30 years, he could. What a place for the Kroenkes to be in as the ownership of that team. And obviously, 25. 30 million seems to be the number if you're a TV company for Sean McVay. Let's move away from the NFL. Shall we? We already talked about elimination champions chamber, which was electrifying. Shout out to John Cena, you know, making a decision of his life.
Boston Connor
Come on.
Pat McAfee
Joe side time with our team with the final boss and Travis Scott and kick Cody Rhodes. Right in the boss heading into WrestleMania after winning the elimination chamber. Now you'll be representing the final boss in the boys to hear what their name is.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, my God.
Pat McAfee
I know there's a couple names that are just sitting right there that are easily usable, but we'll see what they do. Let's pivot away from those things. Let's go to the NBA. The NBA is happening.
Darius Butler
It is.
Pat McAfee
NBA is happening in a big way, by the way, because a massive trade sent a superstar to la. And that has kind of changed the setting for everywhere in the association. Con man, what the hell is going on in the sport? Yeah.
Boston Connor
The Lakers are unbelievable. Now, looking at it earlier today, January 13th. Okay, rewind a little bit. The Lakers are the seven seed. They are now the two seed. They are unbelievable. Luka, last night, I believe he had 29, 9, and 6. Everyone knows he has a little rivalry with the Clippers, I believe, starting kind of during that little Covid bubble. So the Lakers are unbelievable. Now, LeBron, actually, that was his 1,000th win. He has the fourth most wins of all time. When it comes to the NBA, I believe he is 75 away from the record. Pretty incredible. They play the Pelicans on Tuesday. Zion and his sweet Naruto tattoo. That should be cool. But yes, they are the second seed. What's that?
Pat McAfee
What do you mean? It's. You don't understand Naruto. Yeah, that's the problem.
AJ Hawk
You run like this.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You're running fast. He got faster because of it. Remember, they were in the storm area 51. That's right. They're all gonna run like this because of the. What's that called? The wind stream. Aerodynamics. Windstream. The aerodynamics of it all with the wind stream. Yeah. So that's just right.
Darius Butler
I just thought it was pretty.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, because hit his. I'm not gonna say it. Yeah, his stomach is actually doing this right now. More powerful. He's in more shape. Boom.
AJ Hawk
That's how Bill walks around the office.
Darius Butler
Whatever.
Pat McAfee
Oh, Bill sent in that tweet into the group knowing that I had not seen any of the workouts. Dude, how cool is this? I might get one, too. Maybe Bill should. Maybe he'll become an absolute Hooper. An absolute like Zion is whenever he plays. Let's not get it twisted. That is why we are such big fans of his, because it's like he hears all the criticism, he does not care, and then he shows up. Triple double, no big deal. Are they going to let me on the court tonight? I don't know. That's on the Pelicans. But if they do, I'm going to go bananas. And in the postgame presser, I'm a laugh. I'm going to have the time of my life. And if you get me in Dallas, keep an eye out because I'm going to be rolling.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Nonetheless, shout out to the NBA and the Lakers seemingly go ahead and climb the charts.
Boston Connor
Yeah, this is the first time they have been ranked, you know, two or higher in four years. So talk about relevance. Luka really has kind of come in, figured it out. Probably never going to talk about the Pelicans again because they are damn near the worst team in the league. Yeah, they're right. Them and Ryan Smith's boys. But that's the Western Conference going to the East. Tyrese Halburn. You know, look around, boys. We have witness history. Halberton is the first player ever to have 500 assists in a season without having 100 turnovers. He has 69 assists and six turnovers since the All Star break.
Pat McAfee
Remember, he did not make the All Star. He did not make the chill, got the reset. He's come back on the other side. The Pacers have on fire.
Boston Connor
Yeah, they're rolling. They're the five seed right now. Kind of holding off the Detroit Pistons, who also have been playing very good basketball for the first time this millennium. But it. No, it is great. The Pacers are playing very well. Hal Burns playing very well. Obviously, they didn't start the entire season great, but they have kind of turned it on here. This is the most important time. You know, we talk about November football, December football. That's where we are right now when it comes to the NBA. March is kind of the time where if you're not playing your best ball, that is very bad news. Playoffs start towards the end of April, basically right after WrestleMania. So fantastic news for the Pacers. Hal Burton got range, brother.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I mean, he's pulling up logo. He's doing logo shots.
Boston Connor
Yeah, he started this game here, 4 for 4 from 3. I believe this was the 33 and 11 game he had right before he came on the program last week. So they are rolling. They are playing the Rockets on Tuesday. But when you're talking about the Eastern Conference, obviously you got to talk about the champs, Boston Celtics. Okay.
Pat McAfee
Didn't they just lose to the Cavs in Boston?
Boston Connor
They lost the Cavs in Boston, and, you know, it was a bummer, but Jason Tatum had 46 points. Another fantastic show on Jonathan Jalen Brown. He had 36 points. They were up 23 to 2. And then they play with their food. You know, that. That's kind of what happens with the Celtics sometimes. Probably the best possible thing for the Celtics was to lose to the Cavaliers on Friday after showing.
Pat McAfee
Like Cavs fans are saying, of course, this is how we cover this game. We're number one in the Eastern Conference. And the way ESPN's covering the game is, yeah, it was good for the Celtics to lose the way they did. Up 23. Two. I saw that. I saw a lot of this. I saw a lot. Lot of getting. Yeah, exactly. Got a lot to pull from is what you're saying.
Boston Connor
Bingo. And there's a lot of motivation, but the Cavs are fantastic. Donovan Mitchell had 41 points, but today, you know, we have to do it. Happy birthday, Jason Tatum.
Pat McAfee
Happy birthday.
Boston Connor
27. He is the third player ever with 13,000 points, 4,000 rebounds before turning 27. That's Wilt Chamberlain and LeBron James. You know, if. If it wasn't for, you know, God in the universe, every time he does something, you know, for instance, going up 25 to 2 and saying, you know, get the hell out of here. It does feel as though anytime he tries to do something like that, the universe and God says, you know what? You lose anytime you try to get a little moxie. Stop doing this corny, zany stuff, okay? Every time you do it, I'm gonna punish you. And that's what has happened. But they are sitting at the 2C pretty comfortably. But, yeah, the Cavaliers, they are unbelievable. It is a great story. Got to prove it in the playoffs, you know, that's basically what the story was for the Celtics last year. Hey, got to win a championship before we talk about you. Like, you're great, but the Cavs are fantastic as well.
Pat McAfee
All right, NBA. I saw some people doing some interviews, too.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah?
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Talking cha. Chatting, Letting us learn a little bit more. I think maybe they got guarded as everybody started killing them.
AJ Hawk
Sure.
Pat McAfee
You know, I thought about this over the weekend as I was traveling back from Toronto to Detroit. Shot to Detroit to do customs. Hell, yeah. Reload. Go Toronto. Our traffic just sitting dead.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
I mean, not even moving. So it was great to be there.
Boston Connor
People driving.
Pat McAfee
It was great to be there. But I was thinking about it. It's like, I feel like the NBA players because of how much money they make. Okay. Which is a matter of fact, when everybody just starts killing them, they probably get a little guard and just say everybody. Yeah. I think what needs to happen is we need to learn more about you guys. That's what I think in the NBA. I think we need to learn more about you guys. Need to be talking more because we know Tyrese, we love him, the man more we learn about Tyrese, we love. And he talks about the other guys. Like, yeah, we got a good group. We got a good group. We never hear it. We never hear it until you retire. Like Teague. Imagine him telling those stories when he's in the league. Yeah. I mean people would absolutely love it. He's fantastic. So come on NBA, come on NHL. Happened this weekend. 90 some thousand people. It was awesome in the Horseshoe watching Wings and Blue Jays Jackets. Blue Jackets get a massive win I do believe. Yes, they do. Peter the dog was there. I mean sports are on fire. The second half of the basketball season.
Justin Jefferson
Is here and the race of the playoffs is heating up.

Ty Schmidt
A couple Hawks, you know, had a great weekend at the combine. So, you know, that's what we're. That's what we're trying to do is just, you know, continually put more guys in the league because, you know, I know that once they get in the league, they're going to perform.
Pat McAfee
So. And I believe Caitlin and the Fever are playing like Brazil or something over there. Did you hear about this?
Ty Schmidt
No, I didn't.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Ty, this is happening in your. Literally in your arena. I think it sold out.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. One of the Fever's preseason games is going to be played. Yeah. At Carver in Iowa City.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
I didn't know.
Pat McAfee
There's 40 minutes.
Ty Schmidt
Brazil.
Pat McAfee
I think it's Brazil.
Ty Schmidt
National team.
Pat McAfee
I think so. Yeah. From what I. From what I looked into, I'm not 100 sure, but I think that was the meme that I saw. Sold out in like 40 minutes or whatever the case is. That's good business. Caitlin just brings the money train to different cities. And Iowa's a good sports place.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah, it is.
Pat McAfee
You know, it's out there in the middle of nowhere.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
A lot of corn. But they got so much tradition and history in football. Is the football team going to be good?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I think so. Yep.
Pat McAfee
Tony knows that's one half of The Hammer Cowboys. A.P. tone, you're saying. Yes.
AJ Hawk
How come they finally have a quarterback? They got the quarterback from South Dakota State, I believe. If I'm not.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
South State.
AJ Hawk
Mark Grasi, they finally have a quarterback. I mean, they're losing a little bit to the Granaski.
Ty Schmidt
He's the. The FCS Heisman.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Hey, a lot of these guys, they get a. This is what the nil and transfer portal has really Done.
Ty Schmidt
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Especially for quarterbacks. He's at South Dakota State. Go Big. Go Blue. Go Jazz.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Or is it what? Which we just not get that.
Ty Schmidt
No, South Dakota State. The blue team. He was not. He was not at North Dakota State.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so he was. Go Big. Go Blue. Go Jack. Yeah. Getting an opportunity now to go to a larger conference. More spotlight, more game. This is a good from the Transporter Nil. Not that South Dakota State doesn't deserve to have great players. I'm just saying this is going to become the thing in it. And hopefully Iowa does have an offense that plays football as opposed to rugby. That would be cool for all parties. Now let's transfer away from college ball, which is awesome and was electrifying this past season back to the NFL. Nine year NFL vet. He was a corner, he was a safety, he was a nickel at one point. He's the host of everything db Ladies and gentlemen, Darius J. Butlers here. D Bucks. In the first hour we had our first massacre week victim Darius Slay has been cut by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was on with the Amon Ross St. Brown brothers. Okay. The. The St. Browns podcast I believe is the name of it. Good podcast by the way. It is great conversations. Doesn't feel forced love that the brothers great family too. I've learned a lot about him from Amal Raw's pre primetime games. Dad professional bodybuilder. I do believe this is what Darius Slayer had to say to the Saint Brown brothers. This is your.
Justin Jefferson
Your last year with Eagles. How many more years you got left on your deal?
Darius Butler
I got one more left, but you.
Justin Jefferson
Know what I'm saying, You know how that work? You know one of them. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Darius Butler
So whatever they want to do, you.
Justin Jefferson
Know, I might resign back hopefully. You know, if I ain't then we'll.
Darius Butler
See what we're doing because I do want to play one more year for sure though.
Justin Jefferson
One more year.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, one more year. You like, you like Detroit, you said, huh? Oh, I love Detroit. I got nothing but love. That's my second home, you know what I'm saying? I do a lot for the city still until this day. A lot of guys that's from Detroit that's in the league was all kind of like hang with me when it was little high school kids. That's what's the crazy part.
Pat McAfee
A couple of my teammates.
Justin Jefferson
Monte Maddox, he trained with me when he was in high school.
Darius Butler
South Gardner boy, your boy you don't.
Justin Jefferson
Like Jordan Will Lewis.
Darius Butler
Donovan, People's Joke.
Justin Jefferson
Jones, he was with me okay.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Justin Jefferson
So a lot of the guys man that.
Darius Butler
That was in Detroit with I was coming up, I used to have like little agents meet me at this. This field.
Justin Jefferson
A lot of guys show up and.
Darius Butler
A lot of them guys are dumb and it's crazy.
Justin Jefferson
So I got a lot of love then I went to all the high school games, all the high school basketball games. You know, I seen. I seen what's the little kid named that's at Cleveland. That boy can hoop.
Pat McAfee
Hoop.
Justin Jefferson
I don't know how he not playing.
Pat McAfee
Playing. Oh yeah.
Justin Jefferson
I was to watch him in high school go crazy like I was about. Man, I ain't never seen them kids sell out the gym like he LeBron boy. I swear to God, the whole. The whole college stadium, they'd be sold out. Yeah, he was nice though. So I did a lot for the city, so. And that's why I got a lot.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so it sounds like a shout out to the St. Brown podcast for getting. It sounds like Darius Lake has a lot of love for Detroit. Now obviously Aman Robert is one of the staples and pillars of the Lions. Darius Slay started his career with the Lions. Got kicked out of town for a bag of balls, right. 100. Matt Patricia Friend of the program said get this guy the hell out of here. He goes to Philly, obviously has the success that he has debut. When it comes to Darius Slay, how'd he play this year? Obviously a Super bowl champion. And would Detroit be a good fit for him obviously with Kelvin Shepard now new DC up.
Darius Butler
Yeah, well, Slay. Slay was healthy. He was playing very, very, very good football. He's had. He's put together a great career, probably a hall of Fame career. A lot of people's opinions. I had that big interception I believe against the packers late in the season playoffs. But he and the things that he was saying about being a Detroit like I remember I've been following for a while. I remember he was pull up to different high school games and that's dope to kind of see your legacy still there. So that would be a great place for him to go back and finish finish his story. But the Detroit Lions, they invested a lot of a lot of resources, resources into DBs the last couple years of Carlton Davis Robertson bringing him over from the Raiders drafting Terion Arnold in the first round last year. So I'm not sure how it would fit exactly on that team, but he would fit in any scheme. He's a smart guy. He can play, he can still run, he can still make plays on the ball. And he's great in the locker room, too. Great in the locker room. And it would be great, you know, winners. You always want winners in your locker room to kind of build that culture in those meeting rooms for young DBs. So I'm excited to see wherever Slayer finishes his career.
Pat McAfee
Ran into Kelvin Shepard last week at the combine. Great to see him. Feels like he's right at home at D.C. you know, he is very confident, very comfortable, very happy, too. Mcdc, head coach of the Lions. Bobblehead right there in front of you. Actually, he gave a speech about or an answer at a press conference about Calvin shepherd two years ago. Started giving them more and more and more to do because they thought he was on the trajectory to become. Become a defensive coordinator. Aaron Glenn gets a head coaching job at the Jets. Kelvin Shepard steps right in. How should that transition go for him, you think? And what should we expect from Kelvin shepherd in that D up there in Detroit?
Darius Butler
It should be pretty smooth because it's obviously a different voice. And this is kind of, I think, what the Ravens have done for a long time. They promote within a lot, so it's easier to kind of keep that culture. You know, what the standard is. When you walk into that room, you know how they're going to be judged and graded, pursued, you know, not. No, no, no. Lacking off when it comes to running and chasing the ball, attacking the ball, getting turnovers, they just got to create more pass rush. But I think going from Aaron Glenn to Kelvin shepherd, who's been on his staff for a while now, I think it'll be a pretty smooth transition, especially with big Hutch coming back up front.
Pat McAfee
So you guys aren't dead, I guess. The Lions aren't dead? No, we're not dead. And if we learn anything from this last season, when it comes to Darius Slay, you cannot have enough, enough depth on the defensive side of the ball. So I would love to have him back in Detroit. A lot of injuries obviously to that Detroit Lions defense and they continue to win. Continue to win, let's say in the NFC north. The all time leading tackler for the Green Bay packers is back off a cruise ship. Ladies and gentlemen, super bowl champion college football national champion, father of 10, A.J. hogg. A.J. good to see you. You're glowing. Fresh off a Caribbean cruise. Fresh off a Caribbean cruise. Good to see you.
Nick
Yeah, I got back. Got back last night from the Buckeye Cruise. But yeah, it's. It feels like. Like forever since I've been here with you guys. Missed you. Missed you Guys, and it was fun watching you from the combine. That first off the set looked amazing. Like everything about it was really cool.
Pat McAfee
And thanks.
Nick
Schultze and Rapaport really took over the high seas, man. International waters. That's all they could talk about.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I mean, anytime you get into a battle in Starbase, people are going to want to talk about it.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Especially on what we assume to be a drunk buckeye cruise. Is that what it was or how was the vibes this year on the cruise and how much money was raised to.
Nick
For, for, for cancer. For cancer research and everything about it. But yeah, it's. The crew still is going until Wednesday. I got off, my brother came with me. We jumped off in Jamaica and flew home yesterday. But they will be going until Wednesday, so we'll see. I'm sure that it's already in the millions, but it will be a ton of money.
Pat McAfee
Rude boy took the bumble car plane as soon as he could get back to Ohio. We appreciate you joining us. A lot has happened around the NFL. A lot of drama. Darius Slay, now, now a free agent. What are your thoughts quickly here about him potentially joining any team now?
Nick
I mean, I think Detroit, why not? The guy wants to be there and listen to him talk about that. Yeah, he's. Darius Slay is one of those, you know, like the, the OGDBs that bring up the young guys that help everybody, that teach them all the little things. I got to see guys like Al Harris, Charles Woodson, those kind of guys kind of pass their knowledge down to the younger dudes. And I think that is, that is invaluable, especially at the core.
Pat McAfee
We'll see what other teams are offering. You know, it always comes down to offers and potential and opportunity. But the Lions are in the super bowl hunt. So you go with the Eagles, get a Super bowl, maybe go back to the Lions. That'd be a great way to wrap up a career. But good luck out there, sleigh maker.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Let's stay in the NFC north, kind of. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now is an NFL offensive player of the year, an All Pro, and by all accounts best wide receiver in the NFL out of lsu, Minnesota Viking Justin Jefferson. Yeah. How you doing, man?
Justin Jefferson
I'm doing great, man. Can't complain. How you doing?
Pat McAfee
I'm fantastic. Thank you for joining us. We're very, very appreciative and also thank you for doing what you're doing. We're just now learning of this flight school which is going to be an invite only high school wide receiver Camp that you were putting together, how did this come to be and how pumped are you to give back to the younger generation?
Justin Jefferson
Big time, man, I'm so pumped, man. I'm so excited because when. When I was in high school, we didn't have things like this, you know, we didn't have guys, you know, put in, putting on these different camps, putting on these different workout situations to. To help, you know, these high schoolers grow and to, you know, really perform once they get into college. And I. I just want to help out, you know, I always want to help out the community, always want to help out the younger guys, you know, transition to college, transition. Transition to the NFL. So, you know, having. Having some guys out, elite guys come and work out with me and to. To learn, to really, you know, experience just working out with me and being around me. So it's definitely a great situation that's going on. So if you're a baller, you're an elite athlete. It's time to work.
Pat McAfee
I love that. Prime used to say, if you ball, you get the call. Not a bad idea for flights. Go. When will this be? When will this be, Justin?
Justin Jefferson
This is gonna be in June, June 6th through the 9th. So in Bradenton at IMG Academy, it's going to be a fun time. I can't wait. I can't wait.
Pat McAfee
We're pumped for it as well. Can't wait to see the clips that come out of there. We assume there's going to be some incredible play somebody's gonna get. I mean, there's gonna be. Which leads me to this, Justin. So I think maybe your class, maybe the one before. I'm not 100, sure, but in LSU is certainly a massive piece of this. But there was these young wide receivers that were just coming in and dominating you, obviously, the topic of conversation whenever that happens. But you weren't the only one. There was a lot of guys. Do you think it's because of the seven on Sevens, because of the one on one culture that we kind of have now through high school and through younger ages, is why or why do you think you were able to do well young? And why do you think wide receivers have been able to continue to step up?
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, that's a great question. You know, time has changed so much. The game has evolved in so many different ways. You know, flag football wasn't a big thing when I was growing up. You know, I never really played flag football like that.
Pat McAfee
We.
Justin Jefferson
We didn't really play 7 on 7 like they play now. So the, the game is definitely involving and just, you know, having different ways to really learn the game of football, uh, and just being more skillful. Uh, you know, just not putting on that. Those helmet and shoulder pads getting physical. You know, they're. They're working on their skill set and working on just being true ballers and having fun doing it. So I wish. I wish I had that growing up. Maybe, maybe things would have been a little different, but I feel like, you know, putting on that shoulder pads and helmet at 7 years old got me to where I'm at right now.
Pat McAfee
It's all worked out. It's all worked out. And your toughness is something that doesn't get chatted about. You get the ball a lot, and it's not always the easiest catches. I've go and get it as a superstar. And you're also an. What was the Kick Me song? You put the Kick Me sign on my back. I was just trying to be a principal, trying to get flag football, you know, legislated across the country, and there you are smacking my back. You were fantastic out there. That was a fun.
Justin Jefferson
Hey, man.
Pat McAfee
No, you was.
Justin Jefferson
You was fantastic. Hey, I told. I, I told you. I told you and I told everybody else that asked me about it. You need to pursue an action acting career, man, because, hey, the, the, the makeup, the. Hey, everything was just top tier, man. Hey, I think. I think you should. I want to see you on the, On. On a movie screen one day, man. I want to see that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you were, you were hyping me up the whole time, and I appreciate that. That's Peter Berg in the middle, obviously, one of the most famous directors on earth. And what a time we had that morning in Chula Vista. I was lucky to be part of it. Thankful to be a part of it. But the initial to your point about girls flag football and trying to make it like a sport that is sanctioned by all the states. I know in Pennsylvania, they have. So, like, our high school Plum, who is very good at girls soccer, very good at girls lacrosse. It's, like, probably a good chance that we're going to have a good girls flag football team, continue to grow the game. I think it's a great sport, Justin. Legit. I think it's a great sport.
Justin Jefferson
I think it is too, man. And, you know, just talking with, you know, some of the girls that were at the Pro bowl, you know, just seeing them, how excited they were of being involved in the sport and just being happy to be, you know, at the Pro bowl and being around these top Tier players. So it's definitely just, like I said, evolving, for sure. But it's crazy to see, you know, women into this sport and women excited to be involved in it and just to see it, you know, going to different countries and us, you know, just expanding the game worldwide is so great to see, honestly.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think it's beautiful for the sport. That's why when I was asked to be a part of it, obviously incredibly honored. But then I heard what it was about. It's like, I got a daughter. I think she. Looking at the way mom's built, the way I'm built, I don't know if she's going to be a WNBA player. I don't know. I don't know if that's going to be the case. But I could see her, you know, like those high schools at the Pro Bowl. There was some sauce on that. I mean, there was some real happening.
Justin Jefferson
Even, even the plays that they were running was, Was crazy.
Sean McVay
Yeah.
Justin Jefferson
Like the double plays, the. Hey, I, I told, I told him we might have to take some of the plays.
Pat McAfee
No. All right. AJ Has a question for you. Jj.
Nick
Yeah, Justin, obviously what you're doing with those high school kids is going to be. It's so valuable for them. Is there something that you may have been. You've done when you were 15, 16, 17, that you thought, thought, hey, this is what I'm supposed to do. This will get me to the NFL, that maybe wasn't the right path? Or is there something that you see people maybe getting bad habits that you can teach these kids and try to get them on the right path early that maybe you didn't have back then?
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, I would really just say, I mean, everybody doesn't really have that support system like I had growing up, you know, with, you know, two loving parents, two, you know, older brothers, that, that helped me throughout my whole entire, you know, situation to get where I'm at today. You know, a lot of kids, especially nowadays, don't have that type of support system, especially with the NIL going on. A lot of, you know, kids taking money more over than, you know, the situation and just the development and getting coached the right way. So I would just say more on not thinking about the nil, you know, as much as. As they are doing right now. You know, just going into LSU and just going into meeting those new coaches and them develop me into, you know, a top tier receiver. That's something that I'm always grateful for. You know, just meeting Jerry, Jerry Sullivan and just, you know, being with Those type of coaches down at LSU helped me develop to a top tier player that I am now. So just that development and just getting that right, coaching is something that every, every player needs.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so let's stay on that note. Ty has a question for you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Justin, so you obviously mentioned the coaching and everything, but if you look at the NFL right now, you could argue that like, five of the 10 best receivers in the league are from Louisiana and a lot of them went to lsu. Is that what it is? Is it coaching or like what's in the water down there? Because it, it really is crazy that all of you guys who are just a couple years apart, part of each other at LSU are, you know, four of the five highest paid receivers in the NFL.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, it's, it's unreal, honestly, you know, just seeing, you know, growing up and seeing Odell and Jarvis coming up and being a fan of those guys and, you know, growing that friendship with them and, uh, it was just, you know, great to see them growing up. And then for, for me and Jamar to be, be at lsu, win the national championship and, you know, just being top tier players and then for Brian and then Malik to come. So it's just, it's just so much talent, so much, you know, things that's going on at lsu. Of course, you know, playing those top tier guys every single week help us into becoming a top tier NFL player. But just like you said, it's either something in the water, something in the gumbo. I'm not sure.
Pat McAfee
Sure.
Justin Jefferson
I'm not sure what it is, but we, we definitely some, some top tier players, for sure.
Pat McAfee
You eating gator nuggets down there? You eating, you eating gator down there?
Justin Jefferson
That's some crawfish, man. Some shrimp, man. I'm not sure what it is, dog.
Pat McAfee
What is it? Hey, yeah, yeah.
Justin Jefferson
What you know about that?
Pat McAfee
As soon as I learned about it, I want to let you know. As soon as I learned about it, I knew I was going to do it. About 35 seconds in a college game day. That was a whole, that was the whole thing. So I hear that. Okay, So I hear that and I'm like, wow, if this is the, if the entire place knows this, this is maybe the greatest that any school has. So I go down there and I go to dinner and I just ask like, waiter, I'm like, hey, haven't talked to this guy. And he goes, suck that tiger's dick. I'm like, oh, okay, okay, okay, okay. So you know that. And he goes, yes, everybody will Know that. I'm like, all right. So the next morning. The next morning, I'm walking to the set, and I see, like, we have, like, university kids, like, work for game day. They get a chance to, like, kind of see the behind the scenes. And I'm like, hey. And they go, you. I'm like, you know that. They're like, yes. I'm like, all right.
Justin Jefferson
Everybody knows that.
Pat McAfee
Everybody, literally. There was, like, a little kid. There's this grandma just, like, suck that. I'm like, oh, my. Oh, my God. What a fight. I hope LSU gets back. Back, you know, like, I hope LSU is able to get back for sure, because that place had all the makings to be. Absolutely.
Justin Jefferson
Think about. Think about going into that place, playing lsu and you hear that song. What are you supposed to do?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I don't. I don't know.
Justin Jefferson
What are you.
Pat McAfee
What are you suppos.
Justin Jefferson
They even banned that song. We can't even play that song anymore.
Pat McAfee
Oh, I know. Yeah. I was told it's the first commercial break. I was told it's commercial break. Oh, for sure. Yeah.
Justin Jefferson
Oh, for sure.
Pat McAfee
First commercial break. They were like, we'd rather you didn't do that. That's not our thing. I was like, sweet, Sweet. Okay, you got it. So next segment, it's like, hey, the people, brother. It's. It's not you deciding. It is the.
Justin Jefferson
You got to get the people what they want, man.
Pat McAfee
You have to. The people are the culture. The people are the culture, and that is why lsu. Hey, Brian. Let's go. Brian Kelly, come on. Let's go.
AJ Hawk
Jeff Landry will give it the.
Justin Jefferson
Got to get right, man. We got to get back to what we need to, man.
Pat McAfee
You're right. Governor Jeff Landry will get that done. I mean, he was. He was in a battle that whole week. All right, What a time. Let's. Let's talk about Transitioning now from LSU to the NFL, especially in this time. DBut has a question for you. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Justin, I gotta ask you, man. We. We're talking. You keep saying development, we're talking about coaching, all these different things, and the process that a lot of these young players, but specifically wide receivers are going through right now. Fresh off the combine, they already put their film on tape. You got the draft coming up. You hit the ground running early as a rookie and have just taken off since then. What advice would you give the young guys going into their first NFL season? And what was the biggest difference playing college football and then on the NFL level?
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, that's a great Question. You know, my advice would just be, you know, have the confidence, be coachable, and just learn. Learn from the older guys and just be in a playbook. That's for one. If you. If you know the playbook and you're. You're a guy that knows every single position, you can be put in anywhere on the field and you can make a play, you. You already are making a difference, you know, So I would just say, especially have. Being on that field and being a rookie, having that confidence is something that I carry myself with every single time I step foot on that field. It helped me tremendously throughout my rookie season, and it goes a long way, just stepping out there and feeling like no one can cover you.
Pat McAfee
Your position requires confidence, I think, you know, like, I think wide receiver requires confidence. So is db, kicker, punter, quarterback, all the. You know, there's. There's positions that obviously. But wide receiver, they always say, like, you know, that's a wide receiver, though. Oh, that's a wide receiver. When they talk about people bitching and being negative and everything like that, they always say, like, that's. Why have you. I don't know. That's such. Hey, why aren't you an. Like, what? I don't know. I don't know how to ask that question. But, like, there was a year there where you guys weren't great and it wasn't a lot going well. We never heard a peep from Justin Jefferson, you know, like, there's never been. And obviously there's a lot of guys that get paid a lot of money, so that's not an excuse. Like, well, he gets paid a lot of money. Why do you have, like, the team mentality so much as a wide receiver one? Not just wide receiver one, like, maybe number one wide receiver one out there. Jake.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah. I mean, I just always grew up with, you know, my parents telling me to be humble and to be grateful for or anything that I've been given. And I've been given the opportunity to play football at the highest level, you know, just making money to help my family out and generations down the line. So just every single time I step foot on the field, I just like to have fun just going out there and acting like a kid, just waking up and just being excited to go out there and ball and, you know, just put on a show in front of the whole entire world. And I just. I just love just playing the game of football. I love going out there and compete with my teammates, winning games and, of course, hopefully one day. Hold it up. Hold up that trophy. So. And then of course, at the end of it, when it's all said and done, have that gold jacket around my, around my back. That's, that's always something that I dream about and always carry myself with just that legacy and you know, just always trying to, you know, make a name for myself. That's always something I'm trying to do.
Pat McAfee
I think you can leave the hanger open, brother. It's on its way. I think already you could say that. Which goes to everything you've already accomplished. And we thought maybe this past year was going to be the year that you go and get that confetti shower with. That being said, feels like every year it's possible. Go ahead, con man. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Justin, what's it like playing for KoC? Obviously it feels like he's a super genius, one of the next officers, I assume, you know, you guys have conversations on the sideline and he can draw it up for you. But we also saw him, I think in the beginning of the 2023 season when you know, he didn't start so well and he can, you know, rip the team still. It was kind of just like a mic'd up and he was kind of cussing you guys all out. How is he on the day to day as a coach and is he one of those reasons you guys continue to have a bunch of success?
Justin Jefferson
Oh, he's wonderful. He's definitely, you know, one of the best coaches that I've been around. You know, especially a offensive minded head coach. You know, a coach that's, you know, in the meeting rooms that's going over the plays, that's, you know, talking with you, talking with you, you know, how to get you open and how to, you know, just put you in different situations to help the team out. He, he's, he's great, you know, he's great all around. Just talking to him, not only about football but just about anything. Him just being a players coach and just being such a great person to talk to. His pregame speeches are always top tier, so it's just, he's a great guy. I love, I love being around him. I love, you know, being a player for him and just being in the system. That's definitely something that I'm grateful for. Hopefully, you know, we continue to do great things. And just like you said, hold up, hold up that trophy.
Pat McAfee
You go, you want like 8 for 180 or something? 1 first half and it's like all week all the other team was saying is Justin Jefferson cannot break the game.
Darius Butler
18 can't wreck it.
Pat McAfee
That is all we. That is all we were worried about. And then you look the halftime stats because we can't follow every single game. And it's like Jay Jefferson, seven catches, 140 yards, two touchdowns. Like, did they start the game? Did they start the game early? Did they start. No, that's halftime. That is halftime. It's like, seems like in that system, you know, I think any system, you'd be great. But with Koc, obviously he understands you and you understand him pretty well. With that being said, massive question mark looming going into the year. Tone has a question for you. Yeah?
AJ Hawk
Justin, you. You've got balls from, you know, Kirk and, and Nick Mullins and, and the Pastronaut and Jaren hall and Sam Darnold. So you've got a lot of guys in that system. And there's a question, who's going to be quarterback this upcoming season? Do you care who's this gun, who it's going to be? And what's your favorite type of quarterback to catch balls from since you've had a ton of them?
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, that's a great question. I'm not sure who the quarterback is going to be. And just like I said last year, you know, it truly doesn't matter personally to me, you know, it doesn't matter who's going to throw me that ball on. I'm going to make the most of my opportunities. I'm going to try to make him look the best quarterback in the whole NFL. Just, you know, making the contested catches, making those catches that look difficult, be easy. So just having that confidence in me and just, you know, creating that connection with the quarterback, no matter who the quarterback is going to be, that's the main part. And just, you know, just having that confidence in each other to, you know, when it's all said and done and. And it's getting crunch time, they know who to go, who to come to.
Pat McAfee
You and Sam were wonderful to watch this past year. You and Kirk were awesome. Yeah. You and the pastronaut, I mean, literally, he rattled off all those names and I was just thinking of highlights that you had with all those guys. I forget what it's been like over in Minnesota for the last few years. Can't wait to see who Quesi and Koc, and hopefully they let you know who they decide with going forward. Good luck over there at the quarterback position. AJ has last question for you here. Justin.
Nick
Yeah, you mentioned getting on the same page and it is kind of crazy. We hear people talk about. Yeah, it takes some time, you know, with there's nuance in the routes and everything and how a quarterback likes you to run it. What do you, what do you do to where you're on the same page? It seems like instantly with whoever they plug in there at the quarterback position.
Justin Jefferson
One is just building that connection with them, just building that chemistry, you know, just talking with them, you know, not only about just routes and X's and O's, but just talking about, you know, their life personally, getting to know them personally and just building that bond with them. That's. That's one thing alone. But of course, going out there on the practice field and running through those plays and making everything look smooth and fluent, getting to the spots where, you know, the quarterback needs me to be at and of course at the end of the day making a grab, that's the main important thing is just making those catches that the quarterback feels good when, you know, he throw up a 50, 50 ball and his receivers coming down with that ball. So I just try to make the most of my opportunities every time I step foot on that field, no matter who the quarterback is, and I will continue to do that every chance that I get.
Pat McAfee
We just showed a couple routes there. It's like you said, getting the spot that you said you would get to, no matter what that one route was like, he was ran an out dig post back into a seam. I mean, it was just like six different things. It was like, how do you guard that?
Justin Jefferson
You can't n. This, this year was crazy though. This year, this, this year has been so much more double team, so much more triple teams. It's been a lot, it's. It's been a lot more harder to create that separation and get open, you know, like I've been before. But you know, just talking, talking with Ko, talking with Sam and just all being on the same page, us working with each other to, you know, help me create that separation and help me get open. I feel like that's the, the number one thing of, especially about being with, with these guys that, you know, they, they know what they're talking about, they know what plays to run to get me open.
Pat McAfee
Whenever you talk about getting to know the quarterback personally or whatever, you know, not just X's and O's and on the field. What'd you learn about Sam Arnold? What an interesting career he has had. Did you guys talk about that at all?
Justin Jefferson
Very interesting, very interesting. And just looking back on it, you know, seeing it from afar, you know, he just needed to be in that right. System, you know, he needed to be with some guys that, that can, you know, make, make a little things easier for him. You know, just, just having a top tier quarterback, having top tier running back, having top tier tight end, you know, having those type of guys on, on the offense to help you move the ball down.
Pat McAfee
Justin Jefferson on your team? Yeah, yeah, we get it. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Peterson.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, cool. It'd be cool to have Justin Jefferson on your team. Yeah, yeah, I get it.
Justin Jefferson
You know, things, things are a little bit easier than what they were when you don't have those type of guys. So just seeing him in practice, seeing the things that he's doing to overcome the past and the career he had before and just not letting you know, the outside know is get to him. You know, just being the type of guy that just trying to, you know, evolve them. Any chance that I get, trying to give him that juice, give him that energy that I can, any, any chance that I can. Even when he's making a bad throw or make a bad read, you know, I'm going over there and making sure that, you know, he, he's not sitting on that. He's not, you know, keeping his mind on that. We're moving on to the next play. We're still with them. We still have had that confidence in them. It's just all about just going out there and just having fun playing.
Pat McAfee
That's awesome. What a different experience he had to have this past year versus in the past. I see your shirt as we let you go. Lademi de Jetta. Okay. I believe that is Jetta University, if that was to be trans. Is that flight school? Is that what, hey, what you, what.
Justin Jefferson
You thought about all this, man?
Pat McAfee
The whole. I was just up in Canada, you know, they speak French up there in some places. Wild to think about, but they do. We, we Lacademie de Jetta though. That is Jetta University. Is that flight school? Is that what we're also going to be calling flight school or.
Justin Jefferson
No, no, this, this is just, you know, my, one of my Under Armour shirts, you know, just one of the, you know what I'm saying? So, yeah, just creating that brand with Under Armour and they're doing so much to help me out even with flight school. They're doing so much to help the guys have a great experience, of course, having the drip, having the swag that they need, but it's just going to be a fun experience and a great time. But thanks to all of the people with the help that is going to be helping me out with it. But I'm excited to show the world the elite 18 that's going to come to flight school.
Pat McAfee
Oh, elite 18. Okay. Flight school. June 6th through the 9th high school invite wide receiver camp alongside Justin Jefferson. And we assume many others are going to pour back into it. I'm just now seeing this particular graphic. Logo is fire. Yeah. That is sick. Appreciate it. Appreciate it. Yeah.
Justin Jefferson
And that's what I like to hear.
Pat McAfee
I didn't know your beard was that prom. The mustache, is that you on the top there? Yes. Looking left.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Look at the must mustache. Pretty thick. Yeah, It's a strong mustache. Yeah.
Justin Jefferson
That junk are growing.
Pat McAfee
All right. We appreciate the hell out of you, man. Keep killing it. This is very cool. Thank you for giving back to the sport.
Justin Jefferson
Always, man. Love.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you too, man. Ladies and gentlemen, Justin Jefferson. It's a good mustache.
Nick
He's the man.
Pat McAfee
He was looking left and I was like the top. Yeah. I was like, is that a different.
Nick
I didn't think someone else on there.
Pat McAfee
Well, I didn't know if he got two pictures of himself and then one. That's an interesting decision, but I didn't know his mustache was that thick. I mean, he's got a thick mustache growing on. That would have been an interesting. That would have been an interesting decision. Today's show is brought to you by SeatGeek, the best ticket buying platform on planet earth and the moon. Boston Connor
No, no.
Pat McAfee
In this entire thing. But shout out to Sea Geek. That's for new. Come by our new buyers and people that have been there before. Shout out to Sea Geek. We appreciate. AJ Great to see you back, man. How you doing?
Nick
Doing well, man. It's. Yeah, it's been a while, but it's crazy how much can happen. Even like two days. Like, the first two or three days were off. It's like all kind of stuff just pops off. I feel like.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I mean, you go all the way back to the break. The Four nations happened, which I was. I'm hanging out with my family, having a blast, thinking about new things for the first time. Long time resting, doing it all, like, just breathing for the first time basically since football season started. And then this Four Nation starts popping up, and it's like, man, I wish we were talking about this. I wish we had a chance to chat about it. And then, obviously, with the combine coming back last week, so many things happened, so many people stop by. Did you hear about Rapaport and Schultze?
Nick
Yes, I did. That was. That was not concern. I mean, I think this is good. Good rivalry is good for any sport. Anything you're doing, I think.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, because what's going on there, you think, is Schultze trying to nip at the heels?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah, right.
Pat McAfee
Is that what Schultz is saying?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Chomping.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. He's like, hey, listen, there's a couple big names out there in the insider game. I just want to let you know I'm here. And maybe there were some things being said behind the scenes, you know, in conversations that may be linked back. Back to somebody. Hopefully there's some communication diatribe between these two and, you know, maybe they'll be able to move along dialogue. I mean, maybe two diatribes for the dialogue in the entirety. That was obviously something. And then these freak athletes, AJ These freak. What was the guy's name at Ole Miss, which is a school, I guess. I think we're allowed to say. I think we're allowed to even say the school. I don't know if you heard about this or not. Yeah, we alluded to something without saying any names. While I was just saying a. It was the number one story. In the world basically on the Internet. So we alluded to it. That was brilliant. People said it was wrong. Nonetheless. Hope everybody's okay down here.
AJ Hawk
Hope everybody's okay.
Nick
I know. Okay.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah.
Nick
I know what's going on.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. We showcased some empathy too. I don't know if a lot of others did that. That was being mentioned. Some terrible, terrible things were being said about me. But there was a guy, he's a D tackle. His name's jj. Jj P E G U E S. So we don't know if that's pegs. Pus, peg plugs P. Maybe it's just pegas. Maybe it's just peg too. And everything else is silent behind it.
Boston Connor
Big peg.
Pat McAfee
Nonetheless, this dude. D tackle. Have you seen any of these clips of this guy? And who else impressed this weekend? AP tone. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Starting on Thursday, Landon Jackson out of Arkansas. He's a big 6 foot 6270 guy who jumped 40 inches, ran a rank a sub 4 7, which is incredible for a defensive end. Tennessee defensive end James Pierce ran a 47 which was was huge for him. He's going to be the number two edge off the board, most likely behind Abdul Carter. And then on Thursday, Shemar Stewart was the talk because of the numbers he put up. Now he didn't put up those numbers on the field, but at the combine he put up, you know, 6 6, 270, jumped 40 10, 11, 1011 broad 46 in the 40 which is just, you know, like a lot of people are saying. I said those are Miles Garrett numbers at the combine. They are. Did he do it on the field? No, but just absurd. And then you go to Friday, Terence Ferguson had a great day. Mason Taylor had a great day. Those are two tight ends. The safety out of South Carolina, nick Eamon Warri. Six three, two, 21 with a 43 inch vert. Four three eight. Can you imagine having having that debush?
Darius Butler
Yeah. That's ridiculous.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Well, D bucks, what did you run your 40th?
Darius Butler
4:4:1 and what do you said? 43. 43. Same vert, same verb.
AJ Hawk
You had a 43 inch vertical.
Darius Butler
Yeah, 43.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. That's what they called him. Yeah, Bunnies brother.
AJ Hawk
Also in that group, Maxwell Harrison, the DB out of Kentucky. He ran a four two eight and had a 39 and a half inch vert. So he, he's potentially a first rounder now and then debuts guy Jade Baron, 439 out of Texas.
Darius Butler
Big, big physical, good looking DB. I like him all around. DB.
Pat McAfee
AJ you obviously did you do Anything at the combine? I don't recall.
Nick
Yeah, I did everything.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Except for the medical. You just were very difficult in the medical department.
Nick
No, I did every, all that was required of me. I did all the MRIs and everything. I just didn't. I did not volunteer any extra information about things that may have been painful. And if they didn't find a surgery on my record, then I did not update them.
Pat McAfee
That's on them, not on you. Obviously. They have a job to do. You have a job to do as well. You're trying to get to the NFL. There's more and more players opting out of doing these workouts. So anytime we see any of these freak numbers, we must be grateful for it. And I think we should put it over.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I was happy. Speaking about guys that were opting out, a lot of the Ohio State guys opted out of doing stuff. But the running backs did go and the running backs had a big day on Saturday. All of the running backs performed well, but one of the best ones was the running back out of Ohio State. Quin Sean Judkins, who went 6, 220, ran a 4, 4 8, had a 38 and a half inch vert. So like when he does that at that weight like that jumps him up. And then the guy out of unc, Omarion Hampton had the same exact height, same exact weight, but also ran a 4, 4, 6, so a little bit quicker. And I know debut loves him.
Darius Butler
Very, very productive. One of those backs you love him.
Pat McAfee
You love.
Darius Butler
He might do you look, he might be the first guy off the board.
Pat McAfee
What about Ashton Jackson? Don't be crazy.
Darius Butler
Absolute freak show. He's a dog, a record breaking running back. But this guy, we know how valuable you know the past game is on the next level, he's special. I mean both these guys are special. I'm glad the running backs are coming back to a point. We may get two, maybe even three in the first round again.
Pat McAfee
Whoa. Yeah. And I don't know if that was a talent issue or if it was just a strategy issue from NFL, but now that the Philadelphia Eagles have won it, a lot more teams are going to monkey see, monkey do copycat league. Just like Tyrese Halliburton was talking about. Well, we've become a three point shooting league because the champions have been three point shooting teams. So it's a copycat league. What you see the best team do, you're going to try to do. The Philadelphia Eagles, they were a run first team, they were an offensive line team. They were a Running back, led team. And whenever you think about that and other teams are like, why don't we do that? That seems to be sustainable. Sustainable. And they had been having success investing in the offensive line. They'd been having success being a O line D line Howie team. But they hadn't got to the mountaintop. So although we can all say they had had success. And it seems to be a good formula around the NFL, it's like, well, they have one super bowl, so until that team can be the best team, we don't want to hear about it. Now that team is the best team, and that formula is becoming the formula. So Quinshon Judkins transfers from Ole Miss to go to Ohio State. State had more yards than Travion Henderson, even though everybody was saying Travion Henderson was the guy. He was. He had a good weekend as well.
AJ Hawk
Four fours as well.
Pat McAfee
Ohio State. Hey, they're saying Will hire. Did not do. AJ they're saying he did. That's what I hear.
Nick
I mean, that's. That's the. I guess that's the. The risk you take throwing at the combine, huh?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. In Shador Sanders. Shout to Shador coming out and saying like, Stu just won a national championship, man. I know any of these wide receivers. He's throwing go balls to guys running four sevens. He was throwing the Igbuka and Tate and Jeremiah Smith. These guys are NFL guys. He's got them thrown to insurance guys and his timing is off and everybody wants to murder him. It's basically what Shador Sanders said in this entire tweet. But it's very real. I did not get a chance to watch it live in real time. I did watch it back later. It started out bad. It started out not good. Good. And the louder it gets and the more chatter, the more people are going to tell their guys not to throw at this. You know, like, Will Howard's pro day, I assume, is going to be great. I assume Will Howard's pro day is going to be incredible. That's what I'm guessing. Because everybody's is. But yeah, I mean, I guess what he put out there, not everybody's saying was fantastic. There were some highlights. They were cherry picked, of course. Sure. But there are some people saying bad day for Will Howard. I don't know if that's true.
Darius Butler
I feel like he's definitely wasn't a great day, even from the testing standpoint. And speaking of testing quarterbacks, I think Milro should have ran the 40. I think. Yeah. What are we doing? You know, separate him from a lot of guys, his physical attributes. But a guy like Will Howard, I would think, kind of had to get out there and throw. And the top guys, they definitely have the option. And if you are the top guy, if I'm an agent, I'm definitely going to tell you not to throw. There's nothing you can gain from that, especially if you've already put out the film. But where does DJ have a like Will now? Like, third, fourth round?
Pat McAfee
I don't know. It's not good. Yeah, that's.
Boston Connor
That's what he wanted to see.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I mean, like he said, like, you know, him, like, going out there and completing a bunch of passes isn't necessarily the important thing. You just want to see how the. The NFL ball comes out of his hands. So like you said, I mean, he's going to turn around and go on. On his pro day and we might be having like a Zach Wilson like, hey, Will, how Will Howard went 55 of 55 and he's doing all. Not. I'm not saying they're the same guy because I don't believe that.
Pat McAfee
That. But yeah. So, hey, D. Bu over here, first day back saying, I've been listening to you talk about this w horror game. What? And he goes on. A lot of people have been telling me the same thing. D Bu. I've been getting a lot of tweets from people saying, this is your. This is your king.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, but he saw. He saw him live, too.
Darius Butler
I did.
Ty Schmidt
He saw what he did in the playoff. It gets the same thing.
AJ Hawk
It was.
Pat McAfee
It.
AJ Hawk
It. It was tough, too, because, you know, Jackson Dart threw well in that group. Quinn threw well in that group. Brady Cook looked pretty good in that group. He just didn't look as good as those guys.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but look at the arm strength. Look at the arm strength. Overthrew.
AJ Hawk
That was Jeff.
Pat McAfee
That was a dime. Oh, this is. I'm sorry. This is Jackson Dart. Jackson Dart threw very well, which I think at Ole Miss he was able to showcase a lot. Some people are saying maybe he ends up at Pittsburgh, but Jeremy Fowler put out a post that said, hey, the Pittsburgh Steelers are leaning Justin Field. Speaking of Ohio State quarterbacks, now that the Matthew Steele Stafford domino has fallen. Aaron Rodgers, I think all eyes on him. Next, allegedly, via a report from Schefter, the New York Giants were interested in Aaron Rodgers. AJ have you heard anything of the sort or did you have no service while you're out on the Buckeye drunk eye potential? We don't know. We don't know.
AJ Hawk
Potential.
Nick
I have not heard anything about Aaron to the Giants.
Pat McAfee
Whatever.
Nick
I just. Yeah, I mean that is a bit interesting to think. Like what, what would it look like if Aaron did go to the Giants and play for them? What does their team look like then.
Pat McAfee
So he would be able to stay in the same house. We all know how much everybody hates moving. Moving absolutely stinks. And if you look at the end of the year with Aaron and then Devonte Adams is being reported, nobody's heard from Devonte or Devonte's people. But everybody's just assuming that Devonte, whenever he gets released from the jets, if they can't find a trade partner, which like 38 million or something like that, if they can't find a trade partner and he gets released, at least he's just going to go with Aaron Rodgers wherever they go. So there's a tag team going wherever. That's just kind of being assumed right now on the Internet. I don't think we've heard anything from anybody that that in Devonte's camp that that's necessarily true.
Ty Schmidt
He did have like kind of a tongue in cheek thing where he said he would, you know, like certainly consider maybe going back to Green Bay and ending his career there. And that's just as like a Packers fan obviously and Aaron Saka in there. Who knows, maybe competition is great for, for everybody. You know, that's what we're hearing that here in town. Competition is great for everybody whatever happens. I just. Same. I mean it's. It will stink if the Giants are the only opportunity he has to be a starter somewhere because I really. I just.
Pat McAfee
Talking about Aaron here.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Aaron. I just, I don't know how that ends well because I mean I guess if you're Shane and Dable like they kind of are coaching for their job so you don't really want to trade up and draft one of these rookie quarterbacks and put all your chips into that basket because of them. That guy's not the savior, then you're probably out of luck. But I just, I don't know. You look at their roster and like they do have some good pieces but we looked at the jets roster and we're like, hey, this is like a potentially a Super bowl team. And I don't, I don't think you look at that with the Giants and think that. So I hope he lands on his feet somewhere and gets an opportunity. I just really hope it's not with the Giants.
Boston Connor
A cool thing with the Giants that could happen because it would kind of stink just The New York teams and the New York media dealing with it. But at least his stamp could be on it for longer. Like if the Giants do end up with Rodgers, and for sure, Day Ball and Shane are coaching for this year. And if they're, if they're not good this year, then they might be done. So, you know, their number one priority might not be a young quarterback, but if they go with Rogers and then also take, you know, a Shador or a Cam Ward with their draft pick, then all of a sudden it's like, hey, it's your team for a year. And then going forward the years after, like you're going to get credit for the guy that comes behind you. Like Jordan Long Love with the Packers, I feel like Rogers still gets, you know, a little credit for the reason that the packers have had this seamless transition is because of the time Jordan Love had behind him. And he might have that same opportunity with the Giants where he signs, you know, a one year deal kind of goes out on a high note and also gives, you know, the keys over to a Shador or a Cam Wolf.
Pat McAfee
What was the stat on the Giants 2 and 9 last year in one score games? Is that what it was, Bruce? Or is it worse than that? Or was it like 1 in 9 or something like that?
Boston Connor
I. I think it was.
Pat McAfee
Was that at one point, you know, we were playing competitively in the first.
Boston Connor
Half of the season when we had.
Nick
Andrew Thomas, we were losing close games.
Pat McAfee
And then obviously, you know, around Thanksgiving, what Everybody remembers, Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock.
Nick
It all, it all fell apart.
Pat McAfee
But, you know, I, I think nine wins is a real realistic expectation. All right.
AJ Hawk
Jesus Christ.
Pat McAfee
Put the booze down with Rogers. Is that Oost juice it is back there? Whoa, whoa, whoa. Bruce, is that your ooh juice? No, no, it's Gumpy Zeus. Oh, Gumpy's pledging his allegiance. It does appear. Drinking some Ooh Juice, some zoho. Oh, yeah. Okay. Malik neighbors is there. Obviously I don't know enough about the entirety of the roster because there was no reason to watch their games towards the end of the year. They were completely out of it. Way out of it. A lot of conversation about the Hard Knocks offseason. We heard from people at the Giants at the combine. I don't know if you heard about this, where they said, hey, fair. You had to do what you had to do with the way we talked about the hard knocks thing. They wanted us to know, hey, you had to do what you. We saw it too.
Boston Connor
Yeah. No harm, no foul.
Pat McAfee
That was Pretty cool to hear in it. But then whenever Schefter breaks that news, you immediately go like, is that what Aaron. I don't know. It's interesting. You think about day ball. Day ball's obviously had success multiple different times in the NFL.
Nick
Is Cleveland an option? Are the Browns an option?
Pat McAfee
Well, now there's. Now we're in. Tanenbaum proposes wild trade season.
AJ Hawk
Yes, we are.
Pat McAfee
Yes.
Boston Connor
I did hear about this.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah. So Deshaun Watson and his contract, it's actually going to Los Angeles Rams. They'll eat that to get Miles Garrett just like they were able to do with Matthew.
Darius Butler
Yeah, that makes sense.
Pat McAfee
Yep. That we're in that time now with that being said. Okay. Tambom did say John Justin Fields, Right. Wasn't he the one before? Whenever we thought Justin Fields was the only untouchable with the Chicago Bears because he was the only one that had any highlights throughout an entire year. Tannenbaum's first thing was like, they need to trade Justin Fields. They need to do this. They need to keep the pick. They need to be yada, yada, yada. He was the first one that said move on from Justin Fields. So every once in a while, Tanenbaum's going to take a massive. Sure. I mean, he's going to take that thing all the way around. Like that Japanese golfer guy that I watched. The beautiful range, beautiful range, so smooth. But that's like Tannenbaum's going to do that with a baseball batter once a while. This one. Seemingly absurd, but the Cleveland Browns quarterback situation is one that is a very real combo. What do they decide to do? Do they take one of these quarterbacks who are potentially going to go on a very small salary, who's a veteran like Russell Wilson who did for the Pittsburgh Steelers last year where he charged them $1 million to be their quarterback and 48 million was charged back to Denver or whatever it was. 38 what? 48, 58 whatever. 80 something, whatever it was in the Hall. It's like the Browns try to do that, do. Is Aaron going to be that guy because he's getting paid from the Jets. Is he going to take like what is Kirk Cousins situation? They're thinking they're going to keep him, but everybody's like, are they really going to. It's like all these things are massive question marks. But Jeremy Fowler says Steelers leaning towards Fields. Giants wanted Stafford bad. Now they're gauging all options. Not everyone in league convinced. Falcons cut Cousins. Okay, so there's a chance he stays. Carson wentz Maybe he becomes the cheap veteran quarterback for the Browns. Would be awesome.
Boston Connor
Yes.
Pat McAfee
In Cleveland. Imagine him balancing on that elf in the middle of that Carson throwing up and doing. I mean, that is football heaven. And then Daniel Jones being in the mix. Obviously he was on the Vikings tail end of last year, but other teams that want a veteran quarterback will be able to get them. And how cheap can you get all these guys? Is a massive question. A part of it, yeah.
Boston Connor
And for the Browns, she did tell us, I think, last week, like, hey, the Browns are taking a quarterback at 2, so the Carson Wentz thing kind of makes sense if that's the type of quarterback they're looking for. Like a bridge. Like maybe. Maybe even like a Mariota before Jaden Daniels just took off.
Pat McAfee
But so what the. Sean just. Just in street clothes or not even at the game. I don't know.
AJ Hawk
Because his Achilles. He did his Achilles again win.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So they're saying he's not going to be healthy, right?
Boston Connor
Yeah, he's rehabbing all year next year.
Pat McAfee
So. Is he even at the games?
Ty Schmidt
Probably not, no. Why would you have. I mean, why would you have him there?
Pat McAfee
What a trade. My God, isn't that crazy?
Nick
Change the face of the NFL. Like legit. Change the course of the NFL.
Pat McAfee
Everything, guaranteed. Mulligetta. I'll tell you what they would.
Nick
No out, no outs. Anyway.
AJ Hawk
Texans got Stroud and Will Anderson.
Pat McAfee
All your dude.
AJ Hawk
Right?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Texans win. Win big. Big. They win.
AJ Hawk
But a lot of people are talking about Cousins to the Browns just because Stefanski was with him at the Vikings and they had such success there at the Vikings if they need a cheap quarterback.
Pat McAfee
And when Flacco is playing pretty similar style to Kirk Cousins. Yeah, they had a lot of success. Were able to make it to the playoffs, obviously in a run that none of us could have even fathomed. And Kirk potentially in the middle of doing one of those deals where it's like, yeah, I'll take a million bucks because I'm making 20. Get from somewhere else.
Boston Connor
Yeah, that's where like that cut report from Fowler. So, like, vital to Cleveland success because if they don't cut them, they. They legitimately can't pay quarterbacks more money. They can't do it. It is impossible. They'll completely cripple their entire team even more. It'd be hilarious. I hope they do it.
Pat McAfee
But still, it's Miles Garrett not even open to negotiations. What a scene in Cleveland.
Darius Butler
Get me out of here.
Pat McAfee
Get me out of here.
Boston Connor
Denzel Ward saying like, yeah, if they Trade Miles Garrett like that. I want to get traded too. He's like their other best player.
Pat McAfee
Are they going to be able to field a team next year? Might be a UFL squad. Speaking of, have you heard unrest, A.J.
Nick
Yeah, they're. They're holding out.
Pat McAfee
Some guys striking the. Yeah, holding out. I guess the 130th to 150th ranked quarterbacks at the professional level are striking or holding out from the UFL training camp because they're commanding more money. And 55,000, I think, was something that was mentioned in a report. These quarterbacks want more money. And I think the report out of the UFL last year is it lost 100 million.
Ty Schmidt
We don't got the money.
Pat McAfee
I want more money, too. So good luck to all parties over there. We'd like to see some spring ball. Yeah, okay. We'd like to see spring highlights.
AJ Hawk
We watch it every week.
Pat McAfee
Spring kick kicks. We'd like to see some spring. As long as the kickers are playing. I think we got highlights coming out of the ufl.
Darius Butler
That's the problem.
Nick
That's the problem.
Darius Butler
If we're leading off the kicking the highlights.
Pat McAfee
The issue is big prop. The NFL holds on to like five quarterbacks right now. Yeah. Kicker's only one on the roster or two. So you're at like 33 in the world as opposed to 120 in the world. Yeah, at that position. So there's a chance you can get some good ones. Nonetheless, we'll continue on YouTube, ESPN Plus Disney plus and tick tock live. We'll see you tomorrow. Monday Night Raw tonight from Buffalo on Netflix. What a great promo there at the end. Just really promoted it like a professional. Makes you feel like, good, you know.
Boston Connor
It'S gonna be good one, too. I'm pumped up for tonight, dude.
Pat McAfee
Fresh out of elimination chamber. And everything happened. The UFL convo, though, what you just chatted about with the kickers of the conversation, that's the issue. That's the real deal. These NFL teams all have four or five quarterbacks.
Darius Butler
Yep.
Pat McAfee
And every young quarterback that's good is going or potentially good is going to the NFL. So they can't join the UFL. So it's like what level of competition? You have OGs. Remember A.J. mcCarron?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
One played in there. And then there's some guys that have become like spring football legends. Like the kid that was on St. Louis originally. Then Heinecke was. Was there.
Boston Connor
His backup, Tayamu.
Pat McAfee
Jordan Tayamu. Like, there's a couple guys that Are like spring, spring football legends at this point. But like to get super high quality football players at that position. The NFL has it all gobbled up for opportunity right now. It's tough. It's very, very tough to run a spring league, I think.
Ty Schmidt
No wonder the final boss is so pissed off.
Pat McAfee
I didn't think about that.
Ty Schmidt
Losing $100 million. He's got all the quarterbacks on.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if it was 100. It was reported as like lost everything.
Ty Schmidt
Sizable investment into this and lost a lot. Now his goddamn quarterbacks are on the picket line. Yeah, no wonder he's pissed off.
Pat McAfee
I don't. I don't know how it works out, but as soon as I read that the quarterbacks are striking, I'm like, read the room.
Sean McVay
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Guys are lucky to be striking for everybody, though.
Nick
Are they striking? They want everybody's base pay to go up or just the quarterback?
Ty Schmidt
I think it's just quarterback.
Boston Connor
Just qb.
AJ Hawk
Finally a base for everybody.
Boston Connor
He might roll out Cena to throw the first pass this year. He might. He might make senior league quarterback for the Argos or whoever the hell is in that.
AJ Hawk
Our girls are Canadian.
Boston Connor
The Vipers. Yeah, the Braja.
Pat McAfee
We're not talking about that right now. Because everything that happened and the things that have been said. Yeah, a lot of things have been.
Boston Connor
Said for I. I get those teams mixed. The leagues I get mixed.
Pat McAfee
CFL is a historic. A lot of greats have played in the cfl. Ufl, tbd. Tbd. Got two, I'm telling you. Hey, haven't we tried. We've tried to get into the spring.
Ty Schmidt
It's just hard.
Pat McAfee
Hard. It's xfl, usfl. Uu. Ufl. Yep.
Nick
And now they've combined. They're all the UFL now. Is that what it is?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. FOX and espn both TV partner. And they're like, that's a great deal in theory football. Both networks should do well. Yeah. But instead you turn it on, it's like, all right, is there.
Nick
Well, also, to be fair, though, I didn't. I mean, maybe. Maybe I've been living under a rock. I wasn't sure the league was happening until I heard that these guys were holding out.
Pat McAfee
I was.
Nick
I didn't really know.
Pat McAfee
We didn't know year two was around the corner either.
Nick
Okay, now we do.
Pat McAfee
I do appreciate that they didn't start immediately after the Super Bowl. They gave us some time to like, miss ball. Remember they went straight from super bowl into spring league and it was like we just watched Patrick Mahomes vs. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. And now we're watching. Okay. It's going to be tough. It's going to be tough to take serious. Okay. I know you guys want an opportunity football more football is good football. But what we just watched for like the last six months first, what we're currently watching, it'll be difficult to kind of even with the college teams, the way these college teams have been playing.
Darius Butler
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
With how good this college ball is. So I like that they took a little bit of a break here to your point. Forgot about it completely till I heard that they were holding out or striking or whatever. And it's like, I hope they get it handled. I do.
AJ Hawk
It'd be cool if the NFL made every team team second stringer. Be the quarterback in the ufl.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And then one injury happens and yep. Everybody's sued third stringer.
AJ Hawk
Everyone's third stringer.
Pat McAfee
Everybody's fourth stringer even. That's the thing. Like at this point the rosters are what, 100, whatever it is, the NFL rosters.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
And they're stacked.
AJ Hawk
They're all carrying three quarterbacks.
Pat McAfee
At least take the pads off. Okay.
Boston Connor
Let's get physical, let's get violent. Let's do that.
Nick
Lead that.
Boston Connor
We saw all.
Pat McAfee
Oh, the semi pro.
Boston Connor
Yeah, the semi pro one.
AJ Hawk
Spears everyone before they start.
Boston Connor
Sure. That can be your rule too.
Pat McAfee
Or just couple of beers. Couple prescription these days. Yeah. Hey, Shane. Way to go, brother.
Nick
So good.
Pat McAfee
Proud of you, Shano. Shane just went in there and did it. Rolls back the hand of time comedy, seemingly what he does. Drops it in Saturday Live, has some of the greatest skits they've ever had and then says I'll see you later. With a great mustache, right? Yeah, it's good hair. He is starting the hair very thick.
AJ Hawk
The mustache very, very attractive right now.
Pat McAfee
Starting to look like a nice 45 year old professional adult, you know. You know, a couple of beers can solve a lot of things for a lot of people, especially Shane, as you know. Correct. That's kind of the conversation.
Ty Schmidt
Correct.
Pat McAfee
Around him. That was method acting, I do believe for Shane. Opening monologue. Good.
Boston Connor
Great.
Pat McAfee
Couple callbacks and a seven minute monologue. I don't think that's necessarily easy. A lot of people call him a big dumb dipshit, saying he lost it. It's like actually much harder to do what he did. Proud of you, Shano.
AJ Hawk
Represent football.
Pat McAfee
Represent football out there. Yeah.
Boston Connor
And the troops.
AJ Hawk
And the troops.
Pat McAfee
Amen. Two weeks or whatever. Whatever the case. Signed up, thought he was the right guy. Decided he wasn't. That's how much respect he has for them. Nobody ever talks about it from that angle. You want to talk about football, guys, I saw Jesse Palmer covering the Oscars yesterday. I'm like, shout out to football guy on the red carpet.
AJ Hawk
His range is unbelievable.
Pat McAfee
Yes. So attractive. Unbelievable. In his information on all these movies and stuff. I'm like, oh, he must have just been given a packet before this whole thing, I assume, cuz I don't know how you're able to have. He was great. Omar, the guy that runs the social media channel, what's he doing out there?
Nick
What's he doing?
Pat McAfee
He's hosting.
Nick
I saw him. Is he doing, like, red carpet interviews?
Pat McAfee
He looked very natural on a microphone, so that makes sense.
Ty Schmidt
He presented Best Picture, didn't he?
Pat McAfee
Did he?
Ty Schmidt
I think so.
Pat McAfee
He's saying he actually owned the red carpet. How's that? He walked the distance of it. I heard. I heard and watched. I don't know how that happens. I don't know how that happens. But good for him. Taking advantage of the opportunity. Fantastic opportunity.
Darius Butler
Why did it take you so long? As a real question.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. There's 600 hosts that are paid to be on microphones that I would assume, you know, around esports, that would be like, jump at the opportunity to host the Oscars, you know, in this entire thing. So for the guy that runs the social media to be like, I could do it. I'm the one to do it. That's an interesting move. But I appreciate the moxie, you know, I appreciate the moxie out of Omar.
Ty Schmidt
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Tagging himself in the whole thing. Gotcha.
Ty Schmidt
Who knows if that opportunity is going.
Sean McVay
To come back around.
Pat McAfee
Hey, congrats, Omar. Omar, take advantage of it. Take advantage. We don't know that. You have no idea. You might get a roll. Have no idea.
Darius Butler
I haven't seen the numbers. I have not.
Pat McAfee
No, not. It doesn't matter. I mean, that's like the most. I'm not gonna say it. I'm not gonna say it.
Boston Connor
Might be in the next Best Picture film.
Pat McAfee
There's a chance. Yeah. Maybe he was.
Ty Schmidt
Omar, out of water, doing a little scatting.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Maybe he's shaking some hands. That was a hell of a play. That's what ESPN was representing that there. Then I saw Jesse Palmer on there and I was like, all right, good. We do got some sports at the Oscars doing their thing. And what happened at the Oscars? I didn't. I fell asleep. I saw Conan do his thing. I saw. He came out at Demi Moore. I didn't expect that, I'll tell you that. That was certainly a start to it all. I appreciated the Wicked ladies. Yeah. Doing what they did at the beginning.
Boston Connor
Sandman.
Pat McAfee
Adam Sandler being Adam Sandler.
Ty Schmidt
Classic.
Pat McAfee
I like Shadow Man. I loved every. Everything about that.
Ty Schmidt
It's kind of the problem.
Pat McAfee
What was the. Yeah. What was everything else that kind of took place as. I know you are like a film nut, if you will for sure.
Ty Schmidt
But the last several years and obviously, like having a couple young children kind of changes things because you can't really see as many of these movies or don't have time. But it's just so many of the movies are like, unless you're like a die hard film buff, like you're just not seeing them. Anora won Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director.
Boston Connor
It's bingo.
Ty Schmidt
It kind of, I think, shocked a lot of people, but it's like a very artsy thing. Like, I. I don't know. I'm sure we could have. But it's one of those things where like a lot of these movies anymore, it's like they get released and it's like they have the. Like you can see them in New York and you can see them in la and then if you're lucky, when they start to get like Oscar buzz, like, they'll release them nationwide and we'll be able to see them here like several times.
Pat McAfee
So they're literally saying the middle of America kind of.
Ty Schmidt
Kind of. And I don't know if that's the situation with this one, but like, yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Me neither. I popped up last night and I was like, well, I feel like I'm at least on the Internet, like somewhat in the know. Never even heard of this thing. No, never even.
Ty Schmidt
And I think a lot of people too were like pissed off because like Dune 2 is a movie that like most of America saw. It was like a big box office. You know, Shalom, obviously is super hot right now, but that's kind of one of the things where like the Academy's like it. Like, we're not giving best picture to a movie like this. Like, this is kind of our thing. We don't need something that everybody saw and everyone's gonna get pissed about. And it's going to be the only movie that a lot of people saw out of this Oscar batch. So, like, not surprised that a movie like Anora won. But I think that's also kind of the. The problem with the Oscars is like, it really kind of. It kind of excludes a lot of, like, the basic movie going. People who would watch the Oscars because they've seen a couple of them.
Boston Connor
Yeah, I'm not sure if I got got, but didn't someone from the Academy say they didn't watch Dune Trapped? They were like, no, that was true. Yeah, allegedly.
Pat McAfee
And then they'll grandstand on us. They didn't even want watch the. The qualifying movies for their own awards.
AJ Hawk
Like, the guy that didn't vote for Lamar for. He put him like, fifth for MVP bingo.
Pat McAfee
But he at least saw him and said he was doing it on purpose. You know, that was spiteful.
Darius Butler
You're right.
Pat McAfee
Is he blind? Is this man blind and deaf? This man can't hear or watch the games. The movies, though, it does feel like.
Nick
They did the Demi Moore movie get nominated for an Academy Award.
Ty Schmidt
That was actually. That was like the biggest upset of the night.
Nick
Did anyone see it? Anyone watch that movie?
Pat McAfee
Movie?
Ty Schmidt
No.
Pat McAfee
I saw Conan O'Brien come back, so I think there's probably something that happens.
Darius Butler
I saw it.
Nick
I watched it. Demi Moore. She's great. She is great. And I watched it, and I. My wife and I watched it, and we. It's the weirdest. It's just. It's not good at all. It's really poor. Like, we watched it and we were waiting for it. Okay, this might. It's gonna turn into something. Here we go. And it got weirder and weirder and more bizarre. And then it ended.
AJ Hawk
Is that the Zone movie?
Pat McAfee
I'm.
Nick
I was blown away when I heard. Like, I told. When I told my wife, hey, I think that was up for like, a Golden Globe back whenever that was.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, she.
Nick
She almost hit me. Like, she's like, you're. You always lie. Like, what are you talking about? Like, it's.
Pat McAfee
I didn't know that.
Nick
Okay, good for them. They made it Always Lies.
Pat McAfee
Let's go ahead and document that. That's what his wife said.
Nick
Well, she thought I was messing with her when I said, oh, I got, you know, like, some horrendous turd movie that I thought I like, hey, it's actually up for an Academy Award. She thought I was doing one of those. It actually is.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Got. Got it. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
To me, more responsible to win best actress.
Pat McAfee
Watch it for that. So you watched it? We did not. I only saw the Open with Conan coming out of her spine and then going back in. I'm like, oh, I didn't know it was that type of. I had no idea it was that type of movie. Is that what's happening there's? Somebody living inside of her.
Nick
Yeah, she. She gets this, like, potion that she can shoot herself up. She's like an aging super superstar.
Pat McAfee
They started the Oscars with a needle. Like, going into.
Nick
It gets nasty. It's gross. Honestly, the movie gets, like, gross the more it goes and how they go, how you're trying to navigate going back and forth from the young body to your old body and all. It's. It's okay. Yeah, it's great. It's artsy.
Pat McAfee
Zito is. I have a screen here. You know, we added a screen here for any breaking news to pop up, and it's a direct to Zito's computer. So whatever pops up on Z's computer is popping up on the screen right here. These photos from this movie are something.
Nick
It is gross. It's gross, man. It gets, like, nasty.
Pat McAfee
This is what Tito just popped up on the screen. This screen is Academy Award.
Nick
I couldn't believe, like, we won. Yeah, I just. I don't know. I don't know how to describe it.
Pat McAfee
I. Well, I appreciate the arts, and I appreciate people that are super creative and do their thing. But, like, she was great.
Nick
Great to see Demi Moore do well. Like, she was great.
Pat McAfee
And I love. I love entertainment, and I like the creation of things, and I like people being artsy and everything. Like, I legitimately do. I appreciate and respect everybody's art. But it's like, for these awards, like, you got all of us watching. I hate that they're almost doing it, like, in spite of us, like, because we like things because we're dumb.
Nick
Because we're just dumb doofuses that, like, you know, shoot them up movies. That's what they think.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So cool. Our good movie, but, like, great. Isn't that what movies are for? You know what movies are? Movies made to entertain people and be watched and things like that. Without a doubt.
Ty Schmidt
I just don't think there's not really, like, now it's either, like, super artsy movies like that or it's like, superhero movies. There is, like, no in between, really, in the theaters because they just don't make money.
Pat McAfee
So is Netflix. They're now being respected for the films that they are making.
Ty Schmidt
I think one of the movies last night, like, Zoe's Saldana, she won best supporting actress. I believe that was a Netflix movie. So that might be, like, the first kind of movement, but in the past, it's been like, no, that's that, like, we're not Kota. A couple years ago was on Apple tv. That kind of changed it A little bit. But traditionally, they're giving Oscars to movies that are in the theaters, not just going right to the streamer.
Boston Connor
Roma. Roma 1. That one time that was, like, a famous director. That was a Netflix movie. And then to your point about, like, the artsiness of it, I went to watch the movie that. The guy who won best actor, Adrien Brody. He won best movie.
Darius Butler
Nice mooch.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he did. So he was sucking face with Halle Berry.
Boston Connor
Yeah. In front of his wife. And his wife. His wife was cheering him on, so even cooler.
Pat McAfee
Exactly.
Boston Connor
That movie's three and a half hours long. So I went to watch it, and it was three and a half hours.
Pat McAfee
So you're an hour and a half in. There's no end in sight.
Boston Connor
I didn't even start it, but it's that type of, like, I'm not doing this.
Pat McAfee
I'm not going golfing here.
Boston Connor
Yeah, exactly. I just try to squeeze in a movie before the Oscars and try and.
Ty Schmidt
Watch it, but it's like, that's Oscar bait. You know, it's like, about, like a. A Jewish dude, like, post world World War II, who, you know, like. And it's this super long movie that, like, immediately the average person is gonna see three and a half hours be like, that. I'm not watching.
Pat McAfee
Can I get, like, a people's Oscar?
Ty Schmidt
Then they talked about doing that, like.
Pat McAfee
Best, so at least we feel like we're a part of this.
AJ Hawk
That's what damn TV movie awards are for.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. The little astronaut thing. Yeah. SAGS felt like they were trying to maybe entertain humans a little bit more, I think.
Ty Schmidt
So that's a little bit more fun. Not as stuffy and pretentious.
Pat McAfee
But the Oscars, this is just what they're known for, kind of.
Ty Schmidt
And I feel like, as the conversation about, like, movies and movie theaters being dead has kind of, like, come up a lot more in the last, like, five years or, like, since COVID Like, they've. I think they've kind of firmed their stance on, like, okay, well, like, if no one's going to the movies, then the. The audience, like, let's just. Let's do the. That we, like.
Pat McAfee
We would like to say to the Academy that we'd like to shake their hands. Like, we're gonna award shows. Like, we watch them, and we appreciate all the work that goes into it. If you just think about us, like, we want. We would like to, you know, maybe rally behind a movie they used to, you know, that has a chance to win. Just, like, teams, you know, you See a team early. You don't know about Bone rally behind. Let's go win. It's like, it's hard to pay attention whenever it's like, who is it? And then my natural reaction is to start making fun of everybody. You know, like, why. Why is Timmy not wearing all these awards? The only guy I know, he got robbed. Yeah. And the Bob Dylan thing, I. I'm not a big. I, like, obviously, I know of Bob Dylan. I've heard his songs. I know he's incredibly deep thinker. I know he's a trailblazer, but I don't think anybody would consider me, like, Bob Dylan guy, which I think a lot of Bob Dylan people thought he would have to be a Bob Dylan person to enjoy that movie in its entirety or whatever. I watch it, I'm like, scott feels like he nailed it. Yes. This feels like he nailed it. And then when everybody's, like, pushing him and then I meet him, I'm like, this guy's super superstar. This guy's an absolute superstar. And obviously, him and Sandman being able to hang like that, especially two Hoopers, like, they are having that moment, that was, like, very relatable. That felt good.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
It was like, this is the guy. Ain't I win anything? Well, I don't want anything.
Ty Schmidt
That's the problem.
Pat McAfee
They're just sitting up there, don't win anything.
Ty Schmidt
This is the guy. Like, I mean, they.
Pat McAfee
So they don't like that. Others like College Game Day, saying, this is the guy. They're like, oh, is that right? We'll be the ones.
Ty Schmidt
There might be some.
Pat McAfee
A little.
Ty Schmidt
A little bit of that.
Pat McAfee
It.
Ty Schmidt
But, like, Leo, like, they made him wait forever, you know, Like, a lot of people thought, like, he. He should have won best actor, you know, 20 years ago, and they just made him wait and wait and wait and wait. And then finally he won it for a movie where everyone was like, well, you know, like, this is. They shouldn't have even won it for this one. But it's kind of just like, hey, you pay your dues, and then, you know, you. You give your. Your career to, like, the film industry, and then we'll kind of. We'll make it right at some point. I'm not saying that's what's happening with Timmy Chalamet, but I wonder if people get a little sour, like, because that. He was, you know, the main character in Dune 1 and Dune 2. It's like this big, you know, tentpole, like, action movie franchise.
Pat McAfee
Like, I think, complete unknown.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly. I think they kind of look.
Pat McAfee
So they get jaded at how good this guy is. That's great, for sure. That can motivate you, Timmy. Even your own people don't want you to be great. They don't want you to win. You will, though. You know why? Because you're looking up, though. Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps and the greats in the acting. I can't wait to watch that yellow suit. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Clean.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Also, like, does it matter? You know, like, the Rock's never gonna win an Oscar.
Pat McAfee
You just. Cena will, though.
Ty Schmidt
Cena might. Cena might seen as, like, actual actor. Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Like, very. Not that the Rock isn't, but the Rock is in rock movies. Yeah. You know, John, he's an action star. John, Cena's like, doing.
Nick
He's got range. Big time range.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. Did. Did. What was it? V. Ricky. Ricky Sticki. Did that. Was that up for the Oscars?
Ty Schmidt
No, it was.
Pat McAfee
It was what?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I know, but believe it or not, it wasn't. But that is why Cena has a chance, because the Rock is never not going to be the star in one of his movies. You know, like, he's not playing a bit part.
Pat McAfee
Well, why would he? The guy made 88 million off of Blockbuster. Exactly. Number one. Did you see the red one which everybody was talking about?
Boston Connor
Oh, man, I loved red One.
Pat McAfee
Did you see the video? It was the number one. Number one premiere in the history of Amazon or something like that.
AJ Hawk
Great movie.
Pat McAfee
I saw it in the promo for the Rock during Elimination Chamber. They ran this video about the Rock and how do we get here? And they had red one on the screen. I'm like, I like this movie. Excited to see what they say. And they say, number one premiere in the history of Amazon or whatever it was on. It's like, of course.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Million dollar global Moana 2 this. You think he's going to be a co star Star.
Ty Schmidt
I say that and I say he's not going to win an Oscar, but he is going to be in a movie with Scorsese, True, and Emily. So, like, there's. Yeah, there's a chance that he could go get it.
Boston Connor
Scene is going to win awards for Peacemaker Season 2 coming out this summer.
Pat McAfee
You're talking about being committed to whatever. Now, granted, he's committed to winning the 17th title.
Ty Schmidt
Love it.
Pat McAfee
Love it. Let's get to a break.
Boston Connor
Damn it, John.
Pat McAfee
Cena turned heel Debone. Had to make this graphic right here. There. Boom. Cena turns heel. Cena turns hell.
Boston Connor
Had to. Had to make this crap he was doing this no matter what just to have.
Pat McAfee
He was sending group texts that I'm a part of during the elimination chamber. Damn it, Cena. Stop putting over the younger talent. Go into business for yourself. Saying he did absolute cinema.
AJ Hawk
He made the right decision.
Pat McAfee
Cena certainly did.
Boston Connor
That's what he said.
Pat McAfee
That's a debone. Was text. I'm. I'm sitting there, and obviously if shit comes near us or if anything's happening, I stand up, move phones in front of me. I pick it up. Group text. D Bone has like five texts. I'm like, what's he saying? All right. That was awesome, man. You and me. Way to tell the Rock to go to hell. Go himself. Can we get sound on this video?
Justin Jefferson
Wow.
Pat McAfee
What the. Killed me. Oh, no more, he says. Oh, my God. John, what the hell are you doing? Hulk always taking a Rolex and punching him in the face.
Sean McVay
Always has a plan.
Pat McAfee
I was pretty jacked up in this moment. Should be not to be. I'll tell you what. What a moment to be sitting there with. With brush knock a Rolex pole. Could have had every Rolex he could have ever dreamed of. But instead, he's getting his ass beat by John Cena because the final boss said so. Oh, no. He's gonna hit it with the mic. That's it. Just disrespect from Cena, John on the American Nightmare. Travis Scott's about to get his in, too. Travis Scott's about to get his in too. Yeah.
Boston Connor
The biggest shot of the night.
Pat McAfee
Yes. He did that smack to the face.
Boston Connor
Holy.
Pat McAfee
Holy. It's a hammer fist. I mean, like, actually blew his eardrum. Don't tell me, right?
AJ Hawk
Wrestling isn't real.
Pat McAfee
Damn it, bro. I don't know if the American nightmare has. Has been smacked like that in some time.
AJ Hawk
No, cuz he didn't. Well, he doesn't. He didn't work as a champion, so well.
Pat McAfee
He turns his head. Holy.
Ty Schmidt
What the man smacked.
Pat McAfee
Let's get to a break. On the other side. We'll wrap up all the news from around. That's no funny. That's like Bianca Belair's whip to live.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Holy my.
AJ Hawk
I missed the Mama Rhodes part.
Pat McAfee
That elimination chamber, both of them was air. Turn sound, sound, sound, sound. Just using Belair's hair to try to hang on for dear life. And this could turn ugly for both women. Oh, Liv Morgan just got whipped by Belair and she's hanging on there, and she collapses to the floor. She had a welt growing on her body. As the match continued and she kept like. Obviously anytime we tried to show it, she was like covering up because that has to hurt so bad. She posted the welts and the bruises that she's had since then. It's like, damn. Yeah, you want to be a wrestler, huh? That's what people. You know. My dream is to be a professional wrestler. It's like, okay, about to get your ass beat. Yeah, that's. That can happen out of nowhere. No, that's not how it goes. Right. I've heard as I. It's like, oh, yeah, yeah.
Nick
Then do it again two days later.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, go ahead and get it. One. Yeah. Not even.
Nick
Yeah, one day.
Pat McAfee
Sometimes it's the whole thing. What a show. Elimination chamber was from beginning to end. Lucky to be a part of it.

So, yeah, I'm cool with the ccc. That is.

Pat McAfee
Yeah. And you're doing a lot for the community.
Darius Butler
Thanks for talking. Thanks for bringing that up.
Pat McAfee
No problem. Sorry. Sorry we had to ruin your day, Ru.
Nick
My day.
Boston Connor
I pumped about it.
Pat McAfee
Sorry we had to ruin your day. Anyways, some NFL headlines that we have not chatted about. Big ones, actually. Debo Samuel of The San Francisco 49ers formerly has been traded to the Washington Commanders. Now this is obviously a big deal because it only came for a fifth round pick. Now I believe Washington's picking up his money. So that is a part of the contract and conversation. $17.55 million for a top wide receiver. Jaden Daniels gets another weapon. A lot of people are Saying for a fifth round pick, we could have got Debo Samuel. Fifth round pick, 17 and a half million dollars. Now there's going to have to be a new contract. That's going to have to be discussed. We would assume the Commanders obviously understand the situation before they make the trade or finalize the trade. But Deebo leaves San Fran. Last year was I who might be on the move. Yet again. This year it's Debo getting traded. The Niners always have something seemingly. AJ what are your thoughts on a 5th round pick for Debo Samuel?
Nick
Yeah, it does not seem like you have to give up much to get Debo when you say, yeah, only a fifth rounder. And then. So this is the last year on his contract.
Pat McAfee
Correct.
Nick
Where they owe 17.55 mil.
Pat McAfee
Yes, yes.
Nick
And they were probably, yes, agreed to a long term contract. But yeah, I mean, I think this is a heck of a deal for Washington here and obviously the Niners are going to do something with them. They, you know, whenever receivers get like, I don't know, how old is Deebo? He's not old.
Boston Connor
29.
Pat McAfee
29 years old. Okay. Yeah.
Nick
Dang, that dude's still young. What a great pickup for Washington. I. I like it. It seems also like a change of scenery is what is needed too, I think, to spark Debo. Even though the guy's still awesome, him.
Pat McAfee
And Terry McLaren are quite a dog duo. Yeah. For Jaden Daniels going into year two with Cliff Kingsbury sticking around. So the same exact offense. And anything we hear about Dan Quinn over there is he likes dogs. Like that's what he. He is a dog mentality person. Feels like Debo should fit in right away. Have to get A deal done. But this feels like an easy trade for the commanders to pull the trigger on ship.
Darius Butler
Ship should be. Should be good for him. He didn't have a great year last year. You know, I don't know how healthy he was, but did not have a great year last year. So we'll see. We know around the league these skill positions, once you get to that 30 mark, still young, nuts. But a lot of people, the decision makers, they start to look at guys, okay, maybe they're falling off a cliff. But another weapon, Clint Kingsbury. This offense, a lot of hurry up. So you get this guy, get screens, get him out in space. He is a tough, tough, tough guy to tackle. We know what Terry McLaurin is down the field. And I would, I would. I would assume that they get even more firepower on the outside in this draft this year, so should be an exciting offense that just continues to trend upward.
Pat McAfee
All Cliff has to do is just. Just give him slants. Yeah, he's slant. God, like that. That is what Debo does.
Darius Butler
The ball in his hand.
Pat McAfee
Because he's a running back.
Darius Butler
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Also has the ability to be a running back. Okay. That's not a slight. Even though he might take it as a slight or people might say it's a slight. He's a wide receiver who can also play running back. So if you get the ball in his hands in traffic, he's not scared, first of all. And then his yak is normally absurd, obviously not this past season. But you're banking on him coming back to full form, especially with Jaden, who's been able to throw over the middle since he got to the league, which not every quarterback has the ability to do.
Nick
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Especially with Jaden on that contract. Like them getting Debo is awesome.
Pat McAfee
But you.
Boston Connor
Can you imagine if they go out and get another one? Like what Devonte and Cooper cup both still out there. And Terry McLaren has never in his entire career had a number two like Debo Samuels. So I assume Terry McLaren is going to be way better. And also, you know, Debo didn't have a great year last year. Iuk was hurt, hurt. You know, Christian McCaffrey was hurt. Debo was kind of the focal point of the offense, so everyone was focusing on him. And now you can't do that with Jaden Daniels, especially with Terry, but also him moving. And they got, you know, Brian Robinson Jr. Like, Washington really is now one of the top markets to go to. And they got a ton of cat space.
Pat McAfee
I don't remember. Deebo hates Us?
Boston Connor
No, I don't think on receivers. He was watching the program.
AJ Hawk
No, he likes us.
Pat McAfee
He's been on the show on that documentary now, remember last time he was on the show, he was like, wasn't that average? He was like super mad, wouldn't he say?
Ty Schmidt
It was super bowl week and they had just gotten beat.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Boston Connor
It was a James Cook situation.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Okay, okay, okay.
Darius Butler
And for San Fran, for them to give him up, you know, just get a fifth round pick, you would have just assumed, like, hey, they just wanted that money off the books going forward. The biggest question for San Fran is the health of Christian McAffrey. If he's healthy, he makes that all. All go. What's that?
Pat McAfee
They're paying Brock.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
So they're about to Pay Brock. So 17 and a half million dollars off the table is good news. Yeah, because he wasn't drafted high. He's never had real money. He's actually been living with a roommate and almost going into debt. Living in San Francisco as a starting quarterback of the 49ers. In the time that we're in in the NFL with how much money quarterbacks are making, Brock was making nothing. He actually did a couple John Deere commercials that might have supplemented maybe a car for him or a truck for him to get to work. He had a suitcase I think he carried around with him. And then he had those shit kickers and those jeans. That's basically all he owned, you know, because he number the last overall pick in the draft. So this is just like when Russell Wilson was up for his first time. It's like hometown discounts. Like I've been given that. Yeah, big discounts. Big discounts. And you guys were able to do a lot of things because of it. And it's like getting Brock Purdy's deal done now is better than getting it done later because maybe another quarterback gets done and the price bumps up another 10 million. These quarterback contracts are absurd. And it's like Brock Purdy should be above everybody. 55 that just got paid. Isn't Dak getting 60? Somebody getting 60?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Dak is.
Darius Butler
He ain't getting more than that.
Pat McAfee
Do you think he deserves more than that?
Boston Connor
Definitely. But does he want Trent Williams at left half tackle?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So now you're getting into the hometown discount conversation.
Sean McVay
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Will Brock Pie, Iowa State guy from Arizona, will he be a guy that says, hey, you know what? $45 million a year is a lot of money?
Boston Connor
No way.
Pat McAfee
No way.
Boston Connor
I just want to go to 60.
Pat McAfee
55.
Boston Connor
I'll sit on. But 60, I, I'll say, you know what?
Pat McAfee
He'll give up 5 million for Trey. Be a guy because of his, his humility. And I'm not saying don't do it, Brock. Obviously there's gonna be a lot of people saying, take as much as you could get, Brock. But will Brock sit there with John lynch and he'll say, you know what? I do want us to build up around me. I won't win these games. Give me 47 and a half million a year. Yeah, I'm leaving potentially 13 million on the table if he was to go somewhere else. You say Dak deserves more than him. It's like, I understand that Dak's been a great quarterback. He's done a lot of magical things. Like Burger. Brock Purdy just gets dropped in a league, has won. That. That is literally what he has done. It's the system, it's the people. It's okay, whatever the case is some team, if they heard Brock Purdy was available, with how young he is and how much success he is, there's some team. Imagine Kevin O'Connell with Brock Purdy. Like, let's not. They're not going to pay somebody 60 million a year. But I'm just saying there would be somebody that'd be like, we could pay him. I'm not saying he deserves more than anybody.
Darius Butler
I'm not saying, look, you, you, you get what you can get. You know what I mean? When it's your time to go. And the salary cap jumped up to what, this year?
Boston Connor
279.2.
Darius Butler
Yeah. So if he can get that, that much for sure. But Dak was already coming off of a huge contract and he was getting another one, so this will be his first big payday. So. Yeah. And obviously, you know, John lynch and everybody are going to play those, you know, games about building a team and do you want to be a winner? And all those kind of conversations you got, you got to hit while. You got to strike while the iron is hot. He's done nothing but phenomenal things while being a starting quarterback in NFL. So I hope he definitely does get more than that, can reset that market.
Ty Schmidt
He does strike me as that kind of guy, though.
Pat McAfee
Like, I don't think he's what kind of guy.
Ty Schmidt
Like, as a guy who, like, I don't think he's going to go in there and be like, hey, I. I want 61 million.
Pat McAfee
But that's, that's how this works, right? That is literally how this works in this quarterback market. It's like, who was the last signed person? Okay, am I worthy of being the next guy? Yes. Okay. I'm getting more than the previous guy. That's just the quarterback deals have literally gone even with people who are not worthy. They have somehow deemed them worthy and they get more than the previous high. It's like Dax at 60. So if Brock's agent is agenting, which I assume, and I don't know who.
Ty Schmidt
His agent is, but I could just see if they come in and just, you know, started at 55.
Pat McAfee
Boom.
Ty Schmidt
Good enough with me. Yep.
Pat McAfee
Let's sign this. Let's see. That's 52 and a half million.
Ty Schmidt
That's a lot of money, right?
Pat McAfee
I'm good. I could take 62 now. You know that. Make sure we do good with this 10 million. Whatever the case, we hope Brock Purdy gets paid immensely. John lynch spoke at the combine about IUK as well and having to get younger. The reason why you have to get younger is because you're paying a quarterback. You see, this is the. This is the game. Young quarterback, not a lot of money. So you can pay a lot of other people. Once quarterback becomes, through one contract now quarterback eating up a lot of your money that you had being sent out to other positions. So now you got to get younger because the younger guys are cheaper. Speaking of cheap, the Bengals are able to keep T. Higgins for another year at a cheaper rate than what he was hoping for or expecting. He has officially been franchise tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Boston Connor
Sad.
Pat McAfee
26.2 million franchise tag for T. Higgins second year in a row. This second straight year with the Bengals have used it on T. Higgins. Remember last year he got franchise tagged and we saw a vlog from he and I believe his mom even tweeted and he was like, I'm a be professional. They tagged me. There's a lot of money. I'm going to show up and do my thing. He did. Then we thought maybe he was going to hit the open market. The open market would have been very good to T. Higgins. Certified number one in everybody's eyes. Hasn't been able to. Unless Jamar Chase hasn't been on the field. Doesn't matter who's in the field or who's at quarterback or who's doing what. T. Higgins has done a fantastic job for the Cincinnati Bengals and has been a consummate pro in their locker room. I think from all the videos we've seen, he has beloved by the boys, which is a big deal, especially at the wide receiver position. There are Teams that would have been willing to pay him a lot of money, including the New England Patriots as Boston Conner literally just side because the franchise tag. But this means absolutely nothing. Franchise tag can be traded. No deal has been done and T. Higgins hasn't signed a franchise tag. So what this means is Cincinnati Bengals want to keep T. Higgins in their world. Will that end up being the case whenever the season starts out? Tbd, AJ Hawk, tbd.
Nick
And we, we, I mean we hear their front office talk about, hey, can't keep everybody, right? We got these stars. It's a great problem to have, but we got to find a way to pay these guys and keep them happy. We got Trey Hendrickson, Jamar, that they, they're going to have to figure this whole situation out. And I would imagine t it, Yeah, I mean 26.2, that's, that's a great number for one year. But he knows, okay, I want some job security after that as well.
Boston Connor
Yeah, this is exactly, exactly what Schefter told us. Because I did sigh and I am pissed off about it. But then I immediately thought, oh, Schefter told us last week at the combine, this was kind of always the plan was that he would get tagged in that if he is going to get traded it would be a post franchise tag so that they can get some sort of, you know, compensation in return for it. Now who knows what that is? You would assume would be at least a second and another pick after that. But I mean it's just a bunch for T. Higgins. Man, I want, I want that guy to get paid 30 plus million dollars.
Pat McAfee
There's some rule. Amen. We think he's earned it and obviously that's a wide receiver market currently. That's a lot of money. 26 point Whatever is a lot of money as well. Long term compensation is what he's thinking about because you can get hurt in the blink of an eye in this world. Especially in football as a whole. The trade clause thing after you get franchise tagged. We looked into it when Lamar Jackson was going through his thing and we thought that the NFL rules stated like it had to be at least two ones or something like that. Turns out that's not real from what we've heard. Like that is very negotiable. Like teams can trade anything basically for a player as if he was on the roster. So we will continue to like try to get answers on that whole thing because if you franchise that guy, that just extends your rights of him through free agency basically. So now for those picks that has to be like, it's like an offer sheet. Like T would have to sign that and then the Bengals would have to be like, okay, yeah, go ahead, take them, we'll take your ones or whatever. But they could just work out a trade without him having to sign that. Yeah, it's all a negotiate. Everything's still just a. Very much an open negotiation for T. Higgins as a Cincinnati Bengals.
Boston Connor
Yeah. If we look up the Titans luxurious need con contractor trade negotiation. He got tagged and then traded last year to the Titans from the chiefs and teachers.
AJ Hawk
Tweeted the words tag T a G with a period. So I don't know if he's happy about it or he. He was just breaking his own.
Pat McAfee
I think he's probably breaking.
Boston Connor
Oh, no, that's like tag, you're it.
Pat McAfee
It's a good movie too, Tag, by the way, great movie. Remember we mocked that movie.
Ty Schmidt
That was great.
Boston Connor
True story.
Pat McAfee
And it was actually great.
AJ Hawk
Great.
Pat McAfee
It was a great movie. Didn't win any awards, I see. No, too enjoyable. So T. Higgins, franchise tag, what are your thoughts?
Darius Butler
I mean, to everybody's point, I would love to see him hit the open market and get paid. He is in a very, very, very good situation for a wide receiver, being with one of the best quarterbacks in the league, being on the other side of Jamar Chase, who's getting a lot of those same coverages that Justin Jefferson was talking about. A lot of double team, the triple teams coming off a triple crown year. And you know, a lot of people say, you know, certified one. If he goes to another team, he's a one. You always. I'm always kind of in the boat where I got to see that to believe it. But talent wise, he definitely has all the tools. He has the height, has a strength, has a play, speed, has the hands. I would love to see him get his just due on the open market. But it looks like he's either going here for a year, hopefully gets traded, get paid somewhere or have. Has Mike Brown already said there's no long term contract happening in Cincinnati?
Pat McAfee
Nope, I don't think so. They've been very open. Ideally was the word that everybody was using at the combine when they were speaking at press conferences. Hey, you're going to be able to get a deal done? Ideally we'd be able to get a deal. Ideally, we'll be able to get it done. Ideally, everything is. Is in place. I think everybody was saying that, not just the Browns or the Bengals. I'm sorry, but it's like ideally is a situation that doesn't deal with reality. You know, you're not going to be able to get everything done. I think that is kind of the convo.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Duke Tobin said he wanted to get a long term deal done with him and also make Jamar the highest paid non quarterback in the league. Ideally stuff that ain't happening.
Pat McAfee
And ideally. What's that?
Ty Schmidt
He said that's cap.
Pat McAfee
That's what he said.
AJ Hawk
He did say that's.
Boston Connor
Yeah, yeah, cap it up.
Pat McAfee
Capping. And then Schefter comes on our show and he goes, I recently learned what the cap means. Basically means he's. And we cut him off. Bullshit. He goes, it's crazy that this is the. Yeah, but this is real world. That is the player communicating with the world. Their opinions just so happens to be straight up capping dog.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Boston Connor
Dummy ass cap.
Pat McAfee
This is a part of being successful. It's not easy. Niners going through it, Bengals going through it. It obviously the Indianapolis Colts are going to go through it here in a few years.
Boston Connor
Few years. Few decades.
Darius Butler
Two years.
Boston Connor
20, 40. Going to be a brutal year.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Be a tough off season.
Pat McAfee
Few years, bro. It's going to happen.
Boston Connor
I hear you, man.
Pat McAfee
A lot coming this year.
Nick
Are the Colts. Colts looking at Aaron, you think?
Pat McAfee
I don't know. I've thought about that. I got a lot of people in my mentions obviously saying like, don't even think about like Colts fans. Not all Colts fans are necessarily happy with me, you know, because everything that happened, which I respect. Once again, hey, there's a lot of people angry at me at all times.
Boston Connor
I think there's. I think there's more that agree with.
Pat McAfee
You then I agree with that notion. But there was a lot of people like, we don't need to do the whole super veteran quarterback song and dance again. Yeah, sure. We've done it a lot.
AJ Hawk
I can.
Pat McAfee
Sure.
Boston Connor
That makes sense.
Pat McAfee
We've done it a lot.
Darius Butler
I mean you don't want to be going into year three with your, you know, quarterback. You drive a top five saying it's going to be an open competition. I know with Justin sucks for Chris.
Nick
Not ideal.
Darius Butler
Yeah, it's not.
Pat McAfee
That is not ideal.
Ty Schmidt
Would you rather have Rogers or would you rather they bring in Dan Jones?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I read the list of people that were allegedly reported to be in the open competition with Anthony Richardson. Flabbergasted by it all.
AJ Hawk
Dan Jones, to be honest.
Pat McAfee
Bring Carl could come back.
Boston Connor
I like that. He's good for New England.
Pat McAfee
Daniel Jones Fields. Justin Fields. Potentially. Russ, maybe. I didn't see Russ's name in there, but maybe Russ in there. I didn't see. I didn't see Aaron or Kirker in that, anything like that. But I'm excited for the open competition. Everybody's going to get better.
Darius Butler
What if we got Sam Darnold?
Pat McAfee
Okay. Yeah. Okay. With Steichen. We were one play away two. Two years ago. Not this past season. The season before Gardner Mitchell made it to a Pro Bowl. We had one drop ball. We're AFC south champs. Everything that the un. Houston Texans didn't play us. Remember Miraculous run this Houston, Texas. That was supposed to be us. Home playoff game in the suite. Worth the money.
Darius Butler
Couple plays away.
AJ Hawk
Steelers just traded their first round quarterback after two years and they got a sixth or seventh for it. So you get that for ar Ideally.
Pat McAfee
That's not how it goes either. You know that guy's a Super bowl champion now. He is.
Boston Connor
Hey man. Took place.
Pat McAfee
He ended the Super Bowl.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Congrats. Kenny pick it. Hell yeah, Kenny. Proud of you. Kenny Picket.
Ty Schmidt
He maybe trade AR to Cleveland for the third pick.
Pat McAfee
You could second pick.
Ty Schmidt
Who says no?
Pat McAfee
Wait a minute.
AJ Hawk
They did it to you.
Pat McAfee
Remember?
AJ Hawk
Remember they fleeced you guys.
Pat McAfee
Who? Cleveland.
Darius Butler
Yeah. How do they fleeces?
Pat McAfee
Got Lombardi back. Trent Richards.
Darius Butler
Lambo's a gym.
Pat McAfee
Trent's good guy. We don't need to be doing that.
Boston Connor
I like Trent Richards.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, well, me too, but we just did something.
AJ Hawk
No, he's a great guy. He just wasn't.
Pat McAfee
He didn't end up working out.
AJ Hawk
It wasn't great for the Colts.
Pat McAfee
It wasn't great for us. I was so.
Boston Connor
He's told that story.
Darius Butler
Trade when it happened.
Pat McAfee
Dude. Remember Jim Ursay?
Darius Butler
He was a third pick a year.
Pat McAfee
Before Jim Ursay was posting earth shattering news coming to the Indianapolis Colts.
Darius Butler
Crazy.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Connor
It was earth shatter and they raised the taxes. That was earth shattering.
Pat McAfee
Earth.
Darius Butler
They did that?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What are you talking about?
Boston Connor
You know, exactly.
Darius Butler
I didn't know he had that power.
Pat McAfee
Well, there was a point, I guess where it was ruined before I got here. Before they had this new stadium. Lucas Oil. And maybe the Colts leave, you know, maybe the Colts leave and go somewhere else.
Boston Connor
St. Louis.
Pat McAfee
No, I don't think St. Louis. St. Louis. It did happen. Oh, I'm saying now but LA was the place that was like maybe the Colts go to la. It was like floating LA cold. Then allegedly there was like a. A potential helicopter that flew and site surveyed. Which I am very familiar with. Sure. Site doing site surveys.
Boston Connor
No doubt.
Darius Butler
Then you just have to do one.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah. The NFL is making it really easy for us to do stuff. It's very kind of them. It's very cool. It's very cool. I'm very appreciative of the opportunity to showcase your shit in the manner.
Nick
No, like red tape. No. No hoops you gotta jump through.
Pat McAfee
No middle management's doing exactly what they don't normally do. They're making it easy. It's awesome. Those people matter. For sure. You guys are really good at your jobs. You guys are really good at your jobs. Thank God they're there. Without them, could you imagine nobody would watch. Nope. Nobody would watch the NFL if it wasn't for these people being there. Yeah. There's me measuring. Just make sure there's enough space in a stadium for our show to be. Yeah. I even checked out up top up at the 300 levels. Could we fit in here if we had to? Just to make sure there's enough space. And this is the entire concourse. Just trying to get it. Just to see if there's enough space. And it stable.
Nick
The dims.
Pat McAfee
Yep. Just trying to make. Just see if we have enough space in a stadium for us to be. Thank you. We were invited by you guys to do this. Thank you. By people above you to do this. But thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much for making everything so easy. With that being said, we will be doing the Draft Spectacular live from the Thunderdome.
Boston Connor
Nice.
Pat McAfee
This year.
Boston Connor
Much warmer.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it is. It'll be live from the Thunderdome. It's great. It's great. Wanted to get a Green Bay. Have a lot of ties to Green Bay. The person joining us might have like a very massive tie to Green Bay. But not in the cards. Not in the cards. Also not in the cards. Thank you. To this level, I think. I don't even know. Maybe even one more right here of the NFL. It's great. These people are awesome. Very appreciative. I understand. We got guard shield too.
Ty Schmidt
Gotta do it.
Pat McAfee
I mean, we get invited to do stuff and then, you know, I have to do the. It's a. It's a. This is really my. This is when I'm in my best. You know, whenever these things are happening, you know.
Boston Connor
Can assume we are off for the league meetings this year as well.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I don't think we want. We will be covering league meetings from Thunderdale.
Boston Connor
Okay.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Thank you for the invite.
Boston Connor
Uhhuh.
Pat McAfee
To the people that invited us that are up here. So thank you to for that. It's good. It's great. It's great. Great. It's great. League. Very lucky to be a part of it. Play. Play part of it.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Very, very lucky. And thank God for those people.
Darius Butler
I mean, life.
Pat McAfee
Holy. Yeah, you're right. Holy hell. When they walk into that office too, they probably turn on that light, they look in the mirror, it's because of me. Let me sit down. Whose day can I ruin? And then they just go about doing it. Classic middle management. It's great. Great. They're great.
Boston Connor
Still burning.
Pat McAfee
Thank God for that. Yeah, still doing it. Still doing. I think that's all. Potentially. We'll leave it that. Okay, let's get to a break. Okay. We'll be back tomorrow. Hey, J, will you hit up Aaron, please?
Nick
Yeah, I mean, is he in country? Do we know?
Pat McAfee
You tell. That's what we're saying.
Ty Schmidt
Figure it out.
Pat McAfee
That's what we're saying. Trying to figure it out.
Nick
Yeah, try to figure it out. I might get him to. Try to get him to life. 360. Ever seen that? People can like track their kids. See where your kids are at. Yeah, maybe I'll try to get them to do that.
Pat McAfee
I don't think I fully understand what you're. So what is.
Nick
It's like an app where you can. An app where like your family, if they have phones, you could see where they're at. So you know like where your. Your children might be.
AJ Hawk
Like that.
Pat McAfee
Oh, so hold on. Don't ain't done that already. On phones people have location trackers.
Nick
And on people, sure, yeah, you can do five. Yeah, but it's just. It puts it all in one place. Makes it easy.
Pat McAfee
Some people put microchips in their kids, microprocessors. They have them swallow it or they inject it into their arm. What then you trap them. Who's doing that? Plenty of people in our world right now. Oh yeah. Cats and dogs.
Nick
Maybe that's a movie.
Pat McAfee
That's Justin Timberlake movie where he's got the clock in time. Too real. My friend. Might have to watch.
AJ Hawk
I was going to put my daughter shoe, but she. Too many goddamn shoes.
Pat McAfee
What's that, buddy?
AJ Hawk
I was going to put an air tag in my daughter's shoe, but she has too many goddamn shoes.
Pat McAfee
So, yeah, I guess whenever you hear those horror stories, if kids just getting picked up and stuff like that need track them down. Backpack. Get her a backpack.
Nick
I'll take a backpack.
AJ Hawk
What if she. What if she drops?
Pat McAfee
Backpacks are cool. Those are cool accessories.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I think I'm going to go the chip route.
Pat McAfee
Maybe get a good. Jan, don't Go that route.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
I think when he goes, Tony's going.
Boston Connor
To go home and perform surgery.
Pat McAfee
Inject the chip.
AJ Hawk
Why not?
Pat McAfee
I just don't. That feels a lot. That feels like a lot. That feels weird.
AJ Hawk
I'd sleep better.
Pat McAfee
Very nice edge. You. You have that stalking tracking machine you're just talking about right there.
Nick
Nope. I do not.
Pat McAfee
I.
Nick
That is not. Not my thing exactly. I think. Man. Are people actually microchipping kids?
Pat McAfee
Frank sounded very confident when he was saying it back. Would I say it if I didn't?
Nick
Yes, yes, yes.
Pat McAfee
Well you would. You would allude. You would narrative build. Remember like he has done with these AIs and everything. He would say like the worst possible outcome to build a narrative potentially.
Darius Butler
Hasn't lied yet.
AJ Hawk
New Google says Nick's live.
Pat McAfee
Really? See, this is worst possible scenario. He's looking at. He's looking at the Google AI. So I'm not.
AJ Hawk
No, I'm not.
Pat McAfee
I don't know who's.
AJ Hawk
It's neither feasible nor ethical.
Pat McAfee
There's currently no technology that allows for a micro trip to actively track a person's location in real time. So once again, this is Nick narrative building. Hey. This is the worst possible outcome. It's going to get there. This is what you were doing, Nick, without even knowing it. This is what you were doing. We do it to dogs. They're doing it to kids.
AJ Hawk
You can't do it to your dog.
Pat McAfee
You can't chip your dog. Wow. I think you're like kind of happy. You have.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Have to chip your dog in some places. So you find your dog.
Nick
But that doesn't real time track them.
Pat McAfee
Isn't it?
Nick
They. If the vet finds them they can scan them and see if they're chipped.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Nick
And get their info.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, sure. They can't track them.
Sean McVay
Sure.
Ty Schmidt
I know. If you adopt a dog they are all chipped.
Pat McAfee
I know. I don't like being trapped. I know. Adults have them too. They use them as keys to their houses. We're all being. What, the dog? No, just the microchips in their arm. Come on. That is not happening. 100 birds. 100. You just 100 at this other 100. Okay. Make this one a thousand then. A thousand percent. People are walking up like they're armed with a key fob. Oh yeah. Okay, charge it here. That's scanning it at the gas station.
AJ Hawk
That'd be sweet.
Pat McAfee
I want some big league gum, babe. Let me go ahead and scan it. Be.
Boston Connor
That's the Apple watch.
Pat McAfee
Hey. Right.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. But they're saying inside his Skin age. How'd you get on? On and off the ship. How often did you get on. Off the ship? Don't you have a little. You have a wristband, right? Scan, John. Scan you off. No.
Nick
You have a little key card that you carry you can get on and off?
Pat McAfee
No.
Nick
No microchip or anything.
Pat McAfee
How come people. Yeah, how come people don't do that? Key card's not good enough. We got to do the microchiping.
AJ Hawk
When I went on vacation, I wore a wristband that got you in and out of your room and paid for stuff. It was sweet.
Pat McAfee
Pretty nice. Yeah. You wore that everywhere? Yeah. Do you feel like you were, like, their mark?
AJ Hawk
I didn't think about it.
Nick
Scared my wristband.
Pat McAfee
How is the tan? Did you get a tan on your wrist?
AJ Hawk
I don't think so.
Nick
The wristband probably has a little camera and a microphone in it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Did you watch it and wristband it? Yeah. Okay. On top of each other.
AJ Hawk
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Good play. I mean, changes the way you look. Completely.
AJ Hawk
Sure. But everyone was doing it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And it's that. Easy convenience.
AJ Hawk
Nick did it.
Pat McAfee
Easy convenience. I love you. Through Nick. Under the bus. Yeah. I didn't wear mine the whole time, though. I took it off. I would. I mean, that's. Makes life a lot easier at those resorts.
Boston Connor
No doubt.
Pat McAfee
Boom, bang, pow. How you doing? But for life. I don't know if we're doing that.
Darius Butler
Not yet.
Pat McAfee
But you're tracked everywhere anyways. No matter where you walk, you're on camera.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Boston Connor
That's a fact.
Pat McAfee
That's what I. That's what I learned from Dayline.
Nick
I mean, your phone. Phones are tracking everything.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but I never turned on Siri. So true. Yeah.
Nick
So believe me, I'm with you. I don't. I do not like Siri at all.
Pat McAfee
Have you ever heard of. Man, I'm gonna sound like.
Nick
What.
Pat McAfee
I'm gonna sound like an artifact here. Talk to Text, I believe is what it is. Have you heard of this?
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Nick
I've seen people do that. Yeah. I've always wanted to do it. It just never really tried, so I.
Pat McAfee
Didn'T know the entirety of what it was able to do. This thing's awesome. This thing is very great. Yeah. I watched my wife piece together. Piece together a conversation with a lady who did not speak our language in Talk to Text and translated it. It was some of the most insane I've ever seen in my life. And I was like, what is this? She's like, it's this button down in the lower corner. I didn't have it. Because I haven't turned on a microphone. Didn't turn to hear anything. I turned on the microphone. Now I'm being sure. Hey, how you doing? Not that it wasn't happening before. Now I just know. But about it. That little thing down in the lower right corner. Whenever your keyboard pops up huge, you touch that thing and just. Space. It's just. So I'm not a texter and driver. I'll use that if I need to send a text message. No, I. That's what I do now. Yeah. It's outstanding. Yeah. And Foxy is not really a seeing driver either. Yeah.
Boston Connor
That's why.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I got to be focused.
Boston Connor
That does.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if you're allowed on.
Nick
Aren't you blind? Isn't he blind?
Pat McAfee
Not legally. Okay. Eye doctor. Every year you need to fix those. Those things.
Nick
What's your dims on your vision?
Pat McAfee
Bad. I don't know what they are, but they're bad. He's probably like 2110. Legitimately. It is. I was.
Nick
He just. You just see like shapes. What does he see? Can he see?
Pat McAfee
So if it's dark out and it's raining and there's lights, I can't see any. Anything. This is it, right? This is it right here. Yes. Boom. Pop. Boom. That's Foxy Drop. It's crazy. And I'm sitting shotgun, bro. I'm sitting shotgun with this guy.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
So if it's a really dark night out too. It's brutal. I accidentally had a few booze. Okay. Accidentally happened upon a couple of fellas. Boys. How we doing? Wanna. You want a shot? Absolutely. Want a beer? Sure. Not gonna turn that down. What a night. We didn't. Another one. Absolutely. Rey Mysterio maybe comes over. Tequila. Absolutely. So I'm a little bit. I should not be driving. Okay. Even though I. I like driving, I enjoy driving. I think it's the only way you can really, like, expect. I mean, one to two different FBOs. I don't even want to get into it this weekend. Just the drivers are a thing. If you start a driving company right now, you might be. This might be the best time to do it. Drivers are horrendous. They. They are. Get that guy from San Antonio. I forget his name. Phenomenal. Took us down the back roads.
Ty Schmidt
It was incredible.
Pat McAfee
He was a guy. Yeah, he was a dog. He was guy. And also new ball, too. And waited till after the. After the ride to do the entire thing. Anyways, I like doing the driving because I don't like getting Lost in random cities. I don't like sitting in the right lane when the left lane's wide open. I don't like. You know, there's a lot of things I don't enjoy that I just think are bad driving. So I just drive it. I'll drive.
Nick
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
But then whenever you just start, it all starts happening. It's like, I shouldn't drive right now.
Boston Connor
Can't.
Pat McAfee
I feel pretty boozed up. Foxy, you drive, I'll drive. Sure. Gets. Gets keys. Y. We go outside, it's obviously dark. It's post show. A little bit of rain, a little bit of drizzle. I had no idea that meant, like.
Boston Connor
We Stevie Wonders driving.
Pat McAfee
I had no idea. Yeah, we're turning in the wrong lanes. We're almost hitting poles. Whole thing, dude. Like, you know the lane. That's that, like, you turn in an intersection, very bright. The intersection was the worst part because there's so many lights. It was too bright, and there was so much rain, and it was like, oh, no, he can't see anything. We almost turned right into the fucking turning lane of the other side. You know, the people that are turning, he almost right into them. It's like, yo, yo, yo, yo. And I'm. I'm boozed up, so I'm. I'm already. I could barely. And then the rain is happening to me too. And it's like. I don't know if we're going in the right lane there. So now the drunk guy's like, whoa. On a sitting shotgun. Yeah. And I don't know what's worse. So then I'm like, foxy, is everything okay? Lock it up. And he goes, I can't see. Whenever it's raining in the lights. So we're. It was a rental car, too. Got us. Jeez. Got us there, boy. Boy, I showed up. By the time we got to the plane, I was. Yeah. Completely sober. I was like, all right, get me home, dude. It's dry row. Like, excuse me, pilot, can you see out there? Little rainy out here. I'll get LASIK at some point. Okay. And you let me know when that is, all right? I'll hop right back in that car with you. I'll be your shotgun rider. Foxy. They say I'm a prime candidate for.
AJ Hawk
It sounds like it sounds.
Boston Connor
Yeah. You can't see.
Pat McAfee
That makes you a prime to happen sooner than later. And also. Reagan, stop. Don't get in there, okay? It's only a matter of time with this. Don't let her drive. If rains a Lot rains all the time. I don't really see anything.
Nick
Gets dark every night, too.
Pat McAfee
It was a seven minute ride. Every night?
Nick
Every night.
Pat McAfee
Every single night.
Darius Butler
True.
Pat McAfee
Except for Alaska. Right. They got that 24 hours a day. That's where Foxy needs to live.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Nick
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Well, next week's actually the start of daylight savings time. Yeah, a lot better.
Boston Connor
That's awesome. It's the last one, right?
Pat McAfee
I saw Fox last year.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I don't think that happened.
Boston Connor
Yeah, those executives. Executive order plus one.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Mail management gets a hold of it. Yeah. And then lo and behold, this is what happens. We're turning the clock back once again. And we don't see his son for a long time. I do like catching up with people and telling them what's. What life is like out here. It's like. I think. I think it's getting warm. I think it's getting warm. It was like 59 degrees one day. Then I get up to Canada. Negative 6 degrees Celsius. Oh, freezing cold. Land in Detroit for customs. The guy that did it. Cool guy. Great. Gray hair. Like hell. Yeah. Perfect. He was so cold. So damn cold. I guess it got really cold again.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, it's cold this weekend.
Boston Connor
Yeah. This is the last third.
Pat McAfee
Are we done with that? Yeah, we know.
Boston Connor
No, this is the last third.
Darius Butler
Brutal. Winner.
Pat McAfee
Brutal. This is the worst it's been.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Cold, Snowy.
Boston Connor
At six weeks.
Pat McAfee
Weeks. We got six weeks left.
Boston Connor
Six, seven, I'd say.
Pat McAfee
What are you, Punxsutawney? Full?
Boston Connor
No, it's just usually always after the draft is when it really is like. Okay, we are at nice weather time.
Pat McAfee
Last year, the draft, Detroit was a lot colder than, I think, chilly. It got chilly.
AJ Hawk
Green Bay would be warm, too. It's a damn shame we're not gonna be there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Connor
I'm bummed.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I don't think we're gone. We get that magician back.
Boston Connor
Gallagher.
Pat McAfee
League meetings were in Florida. Would have been nice. We're not getting Gallagher. Rest in peace, by the way. I think he died. What?
Ty Schmidt
Michael Malone. Oh, Gallagher. Yeah, he did.
Nick
His twin brother, though, was. Was stealing his. Stealing his routine. So he might be around.
Pat McAfee
Still his gimmick.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
I thought Mike died by swallowing his needles.
Pat McAfee
You're talking about the.
Boston Connor
The Michael Malone might have been a bullet instead.
Pat McAfee
Hope he's okay. He's. He would be a guy that'd be able to do it. Literally after watching. I think he would be a guy that would be able to do it. All right, we're back tomorrow.
Nick
He was really good, right?
Pat McAfee
Here, right here.
Boston Connor
I love that guy.
Ty Schmidt
Collapsed his lungs from punching himself. Get the nails down.
Pat McAfee
I was so uncomfortable. I was so uncomfortable. Just like whenever Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were doing what they were doing to each other. That was uncomfortable. Two tables.
AJ Hawk
Two tables.
Pat McAfee
Jeez. Kevin Owens is stabbed.
Ty Schmidt
And what was he patent and crying for when Randy Orton came out?
Pat McAfee
I didn't see that. A lot of people are talking about that. I think potentially pretty emotional, you know, after a fight. He and his ex best friend just had love Zane in Toronto. But if you would have seen Randy Orton might have brought tears to your eyes too. I don't know if a human's been. He was jockey. I don't know if humans been put together like that. Long, long time scared. It was almost like art. I assume Kevin Owens is like, holy, look at this man. Yeah, he's gonna weigh 280. No, no. All right. There's no reason.
Ty Schmidt
Tony had a good burn on Kevin Owens in the the group chat right as he came out.
Pat McAfee
Hey, you had a good fight. Look at this guy. Hey, he tried to break my neck. Huh? Okay. Good to see you. He says chewing gum. Looking super cool.
Boston Connor
Always does.
Pat McAfee
Kevin Owens. What are you talking about? He just beat Sami Zayn. Where is he crying? I don't see.
Ty Schmidt
Wait for it, wait for it. He's kind of like, what are you waiting for?
Pat McAfee
Like something like that? No, he's overcome with emotion. He just got done with a fight in Toronto.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, boohoo, WWE Superstar.
Pat McAfee
What are you talking about? It's an unsanctioned match. It wasn't a WWE match.
Boston Connor
This ring made me into a monster.
Pat McAfee
He's ready to fight him. He's ready to fight him. There he is. Come on. He's tired. He's exhausted.
AJ Hawk
He had a banger against Rhodes at the Rumble too.
Pat McAfee
He's been through it. Kevin Owens is. Is on fire right now, I'd say. Yeah, Randy though, the is wrong with that guy. How do you have.
Ty Schmidt
That's a massive right hand from ko.
Pat McAfee
Well, I mean, Randy fresh out of way. The Viking got it. Nope. Throw him rko. And then he delivered RKO to the entire population of a town in Canada as they came up one by one. That was a bad idea by security. If I remember this right, I think security's about to get in there.
AJ Hawk
Or was it right when he was about to.
Pat McAfee
You got Pete down here. The Canadian Destroyer founder watching along. He can't stop anything. The Amal. No. What is Pete's last name? We should look that up. He created the Canadian Destroyer, like maybe the best move.
Ty Schmidt
And Pete Dunn, Butch Artist, formerly known as Butch.
Pat McAfee
Pete Dun's not doing Canadian Destroyers. He should be. Let's get to a break. We'll be back tomorrow. Petey Williams. Fuck. I'm sorry, Petey Williams. I go up to him every day and just ask him how many destroyers are in the show tonight. We get 30 destroyers tonight or what? I watch a match on Instagram, showed up on the Explore page. These dudes did 16 explorer destroyers to each other. It's like most devastating move of all time. It's a. Obviously a back flipping pile driver, basically. That happens. Most devastating move. You could basically come up with these dudes doing 16 of them. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. It's like, Petey, sorry. The move is not really as devastating as we once thought. Like a Mexican destroyer. Penta hits. Oh, that's game, set, match. Yeah. Into the sacrifice. The arm got action tonight in Buffalo.
AJ Hawk
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's gonna be a good one.
Boston Connor
Can't wait.
Pat McAfee
We're on the road to Wrestlemania. You Boom. Yeah. He just showed me a clip of maybe one of the first Destroyers. It's on tna. I don't know if we can show that. I legitimately don't know the relationship. Adam Cole hit me with Panama Sunrise, which is the Panama destroyer, to beat me in our match down nxt. I'll tell you what, that came out of nowhere. I didn't know what to expect. And all of a sudden I'm upside down, I'm on my head. And then 1, 2, 3. It's like I don't even.
Boston Connor
Wait, hold on.
Pat McAfee
Oh, is this over? Yeah, it's over. Should have kicked out. That's Canadian Destroyer, which goes back once again. A lot of good things came from Canada. We appreciate it. Yep.
Darius Butler
What else?
Pat McAfee
Maple syrup. Pretty good. Hockey's pretty good.
AJ Hawk
Mooses.
Pat McAfee
Mooses are great. They didn't start Moose are great.
Darius Butler
Hockey. Right?
Boston Connor
They didn't start mooses.
Pat McAfee
They didn't start hockey. They had to have started hockey, right? Did you guys start hockey? Yeah, yeah. Lacrosse as well.
Darius Butler
Start lacrosse.
Nick
Real.
Boston Connor
The Natives.
Pat McAfee
But it was from that area.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Oh, okay.
Pat McAfee
Let's see. Poutine. Sure, sure.
Nick
That weird ice cream Gump likes.
Pat McAfee
Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, Tiger. Creamu. Yeah, up there. Stoner Cran of Stoner and Sid. Mark Stone and Mario the Mu. And Way Paul Bis, the guy that fought 10 Irish gypsies.
Boston Connor
Brad Maran.
Pat McAfee
Brad Marchand.
Darius Butler
Ms. Looks like the P.K.
Pat McAfee
Reynolds. P.K.
AJ Hawk
So bad they created Standard Time.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Oh, what's that? Nobody. We're just rolling around with the sun.
AJ Hawk
They created Sundance like the Es. Like the St. Oh.
Pat McAfee
They said we need to separate this whole thing.
Boston Connor
They created daylight and the Wonder Bra was Ben Franklin.
Darius Butler
The Wonder Bra.
Pat McAfee
The what? The Wonder Bra.
Darius Butler
Shout out Canada.
Nick
What did that do?
Pat McAfee
Special made wonderful wonders. It did wonders. That's what they say. That's why they put in there. Just like Boy Wonder to Boy Blunder, said Sean McVeigh. It was the Blunder Brawl. And then they brought in the Wonder Bra and that's what Canada has done. We appreciate Canada for all those great things.
Darius Butler
Thank you.
Pat McAfee
That's why when I hear. Oh, kind of duh, my first reaction is, you know, because there's been a lot of good. A lot of good people, a lot of good things, no matter what is happening politically. So whenever. Oh, say bruh was your first reaction, It's a little bit of a. Hold the fuck on. Starbucks is across the street. Okay, you're at WWE show. Please. You've had a lot of good things. Why is the first. Then they said, look, it's like, all right, I'm looking into every political stance of every country before they play a national anthem, before a sport or happening. I don't know if. Is that the move? I guess I appreciate you guys passion for your country, though. I do appreciate it. I respect it a lot more than I thought. I didn't know that.
Ty Schmidt
That.
Pat McAfee
That type. They were coming after me. They were coming after me pretty good. Canadians were coming after me pretty good. The Americans were standing by my side, though.
Darius Butler
Always.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Darius Butler
When's the next time doing a four nations thing?
Pat McAfee
That was, yeah. Great.
Boston Connor
Probably two years.
Pat McAfee
Got the Olympics coming up. We need to win that. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Got to.
Boston Connor
And I need to put Russia in four nations.
Pat McAfee
Yes. And then be five nations. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Relegate whoever comes in last.
Darius Butler
Who was last this year?
Boston Connor
Sweden, I believe.
Pat McAfee
See? Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Swedes are good, though.
Pat McAfee
They said it was a one off because the injuries. They're worried that if. If we continue to make it something that the boys will care about, they'll get hurt. Like, that's almost the conversation that's happening. NBA people are like, we got no injuries coming because nobody really cares about this. The NHL is like our guy. Our boys care too much about this. This is chokey, man. We can't be having a care McAvoy. We got to get something they care but not too much about. You know, like Sid, the last All Star game, he took a vacation out in Montana or Whatever. Instead of going to the all star thing. And they showed up at the game and they were like, Sid's too good for that. And then as soon as this was announced, he's like, I'll play for Canada.
Boston Connor
Put the C on my chest.
Pat McAfee
I will play for. He went into it hurt, too. Yeah. And then they put up his resume. He's 46 and 3 as a Canadian international hockey player. I don't know how that works. He should be playing for America. He lives in Pittsburgh. Yeah. So Canada. Also out of the garbage bag, which makes sense. Does skill break. We'll be back tomorrow. Thank you for that creation. That's a big deal age. They didn't create that.
AJ Hawk
A lot of garbage.
Nick
Like the plastic garbage bag.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Nick
We've refined it and made it better and better.
AJ Hawk
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Well, I mean, we can talk about a lot of things that they created there. Maybe we.
Nick
We did the one that stretches over so it. It sits under can, you know, so that the top is elastic.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And we did the one that has smell already on.
Nick
Hell, yeah.
Boston Connor
That's the best.
Pat McAfee
I assume we did that for sure.
AJ Hawk
Without a doubt.
Justin Jefferson
Lavender.
Pat McAfee
They created the paint roller as well, which obviously. Obviously we all knew that. That's. That's actually a picture of Gumps.
AJ Hawk
That would actually be me if I was still at the shipyard right now, to be honest.
Pat McAfee
That is a. That is a gumpy lad painting out there. Look at the cap on the. On the old painter. We appreciate Keller.
Ty Schmidt
Nice looking too.
Pat McAfee
But also, let's relax with the. It was big toque town. It was so cold.
Ty Schmidt
I bet.
Pat McAfee
So cold. I was going to walk. I didn't bring a jacket, obviously.
Ty Schmidt
Sure.
Pat McAfee
What you saw on TV is what I wore and what I wore home. No bags coming in. Do the show. Gotta get home. No other options. Okay. Sometimes you got to burn the bridge behind you. So there's nowhere else to retreat. This is all on break. This is all I got. So now I'm sitting in traffic 45 minutes to an hour in Toronto because they shut down the road going into the city from where I was coming from. One lane, go this way. Then they stop. And then coming out of the city, they go. So this is like a six lane into like a actual half of a lane. So it was quite a gridlock, if you will. I was like, fuck it, I'll walk. I open that door, I take four steps. There was. There was a breeze off this lake.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. I get back in that car, I go, we're gonna be here a while. Huh? He goes, yes, sir. In his language, with his accent or whatever. And I just sat there and just took it in. All of. Huh.
Darius Butler
French?
Pat McAfee
I think so. I think it was French, I think. I don't know. It was tough. I was trying to communicate. I'm in the same car as a guy for an hour.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I tried to talk to him four or five different times. There was nothing. I mean, I'm just. I'm in there alone, you know, I'm in there absolutely alone. But then it was an honor to be a part of the elimination chamber. And what a night it was. Tonight, Monday night Raw, Live from Buffalo on Netflix, that's AJ Hawk. The boys are here. D. Buch. Good to see you back. You too, A.J. good to see you back. Good to see you back. It's great to be back in the Thunderdome. We obviously love this place. We're lucky to do it. Massive show coming to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Details to be released soon. On a big night. Ah, should be a big one, A.J.
Nick
I mean, yes. I mean, yeah. I've heard ideas you got floating around. It's gonna be pretty sweet.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's the. That's kind of. That's a good way to describe it. I've heard ideas floating around. That's what the show's gonna be. This is a. This is a combination of a few years worth of ideas into one program, which. With massive surprises. Okay. There's gonna be some massive surprises. I think there's gonna be gigantic giveaways. Oh, yeah, gigantic. Millions and millions of dollars given away. There's gonna be massive laughs. I think there's gonna be some howlers. And then the sing alongs. Let's get those voices ready.
Boston Connor
Mm.
Pat McAfee
I'm trying to put together just a night where everybody can have a blast. We can give away some money, and we can experience things that maybe we'd have never experienced before. Trying to put together a big night for folks. First one in Pittsburgh, hopefully not the last. We'll see how it goes. It is an expensive evening, that is for certain, as everything goes together. But it should be worth the time, worth the visitors. And I'm excited to kind of, you know, I'm excited to get to it. It's been taking up a lot of my brain capacity because it's impossible not to think about. I wake up in the middle of the night going to the bathroom, and it's like, oh, that'd be sweet if we were able to pull that off. Talk to Tex tomorrow, wake up the next day, read through the notes. Let's go ahead and do that. And we're in a position now with people that we know where it's like, shit's all kind of possible. Gonna cost money. All kind of possible. I'm pumped for it. All right, details to be released very soon. And this shows within the next couple months. The show is near, it's not far. This ain't like summer, fall thing. This is happening in the next two months. I'll say. And it's gonna be big. It's gonna be at night. People are gonna have to go, all right, get the hell out of here. We'll see you tomorrow. What a time. What a show. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change your life. We're in this thing together. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, three.
Darius Butler
Team goodbye. In case you didn't know, these young.
Justin Jefferson
Men are driven, quite remarkable, magnificent and unmistakable. These are the prodigies, the savants, the ones we been waiting for. And they are not asking for you to pass the baton.
Darius Butler
They are methodically planning the perfect moment to take it.
Justin Jefferson
