Beautiful people and welcome to our humble abode, the Thunderdome on this draft overreaction. Monday, April 28, 2025. This program starts now. Sports are happening all around us. It's already April 28th.
Ty Schmidt
Crazy.
Pat McAfee
I had to check like three different times there on the date bug. What a fantastic time to be alive because obviously 257 dreams came true this past weekend as the NFL wrapped up its draft from beautiful Green Bay, Wisconsin. We had a chance to be out there for night one and then day two of the draft. It was a spectacular host. The hospitality was through the roof and it felt like the fans showed up all weekend long. What a spectacle the draft has become. And 257 more names have been called in hopes of becoming hall of Famers. There's also undrafted free agents that were getting signed after the draft ended. And you know, did any of these organizations change their team forever? Did anybody draft a pillar player? Maybe a 199? Maybe Mr. Irrelevant? Maybe a top five pick? Maybe a fifth round quarter could be. Did anybody draft the one that's going to project them and trajectory them all the way to this super bowl for the next 10, 20 years? We shall see. Draft grades are always awesome, especially the day after a draft ends because hey, this is how we feel they did against what we thought these guys would be. Yeah, we thought a couple guys were first rounders and they fell to the fifth, sixth, seventh round. But what we know is better than what the on field play will actually say. I don't think you can ever judge a draft until two, three years down the road. We will continue to treat life that way, but we will talk about some of the splashes that some of the teams made and also the narratives and directions that some teams went. It's like Atlanta really thought their defense was crap. Buffalo Bills, same exact thing. You could tell for some teams when they did their self analysis. We need to fix this. If you're a fan of a team that did that, congrats to you. I think you're on the up and up now. Remember, there can only be one Lombardi winner and 31 losers. But during this draft time, everybody can win if you look at it the right way. Like the Indianapolis Colts won a Super super bowl this past week. I'm excited that you guys got to watch that. But they're not the only team that feels that way. Let's go to the toxic table at Boston. Connor at Ty Schmidt. Ty Schmidt. How'd Green Bay do over the weekend?
Ty Schmidt
I think they did great again, you know the packers are one of those teams, anytime you're drafting in the back half, like where they are, I don't think anything's going to really push you over the edge. But it is interesting. You mentioned about like, what the, the fans think the team needs as opposed to like what the actual team thinks. They, everyone was saying leading up to the draft, like, hey, we don't know what's going on with Jair Alexander. They really need help in the secondary. They draft one cornerback in the seventh round. So it's like, you know, obviously they're okay with the guys they have, but obviously getting a guy like Matthew Golden. They drafted another wide receiver, Savion Williams, in the third round. So overall, yeah, I'm very happy with.
Pat McAfee
What packers did now at Boston. Connor, did you guys win the super bowl this weekend with Rabel and Elliot Wolf calling some shots? Yeah.
Darius Butler
I don't know if you're familiar with the hall of Fame, Pat, but basically every single player that was wearing a Patriots hat after they got drafted is going there essentially. Personally, I think a lot of people from New England said, okay, look, they all clearly think Vrabel's the guy. Tackle, running back, wide receiver, center. I mean, that is, hey, Drake May is our future. Let's support him as best we can. Trayvon Henderson, he knows sign language, so he's a high character guy who's also smart.
Pat McAfee
He's a high character guy. He is a high character guy. You know, he's doing the, he's doing the high. I love you. Shit happens.
Darius Butler
Exactly. Loves you. When he scored touchdown against Tennessee.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, I remember that going into the end zone. Yeah, he was awesome.
Darius Butler
He was incredible. Will Campbell, everything that came out about him, you know, I'm going to fight and die to protect Drake May. Exactly what you want to hear. And then, you know, how about this? How about a kicker and a long snapper? You know, let's not act like football just, you know, offense and defense is a three phase sport. And New England knocked it out of the park.
Pat McAfee
First kicker off the board, Andres Borealis. I watched him kick at the combine leg live. Live leg. Now he went to Miami. His brother went to Miami. So that name has been synonymous with kicking in Miami for like the last five years or whatever. He's got some sweet tattoos, a lot of moxie, which I think is a good thing, not a bad thing. The only difference is you're going to be in Foxborough now. I think he has a strong enough leg, he'll be able to sort it out. But I like the pick a lot. Also, loop out of Arizona, got drafted to Baltimore Ravens. What does that mean for the future of the Baltimore Ravens? And then a punter from Florida, guy with a great mustache, he got drafted as well. Oh, oh, I'm sorry, dude. Guy murders balls. Campbell maybe. Crosshairshaw. Crosshair murders footballs. Okay. I saw him at the combine. The only thing with the guys at the combine where like not a lot of them were as comfortable catching the ball. He was pretty comfortable catching the ball and he was slaughtering balls. Now he's up at Mile High too. I'm excited to watch him do his thing. Let's go to 1/2 of the hammer. Done. Cowboys. AP Tone Pittsburgh Steelers had a big time draft. Didn't draft quarterback though. What's going on over there?
Boston Connor
Or did the.
Pat McAfee
Oh, they got the guy. They got the one. They got a national champion. In the sixth round of the NFL draft, Will Howard becomes Pittsburgh Steeler alongside Jack Sawyer. A couple national champions go to upmc.
Boston Connor
Yeah, this was what we like to call a dog draft for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was all dogs. You know, you started with Derek Hartman. Caleb Johnson ran for, I don't know, 2700 yards at Iowa. It felt like, oh, and then you get two national champions in Jack Sawyer and Will Howard. Oh, and Mark Bruner, son. Ever heard of that guy? Huh? Ya Black six, six, three, four in the middle. Yeah, this was a. The Ravens ran for 700 yards on us in the, in the, in the playoff situation. So we are going to make sure that never happens again. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Why? Why a. Yeah, yeah. Not yet.
Ty Schmidt
I was gonna say I've been calling him Yaha for the last four years.
Pat McAfee
That's why Iowa is in the situation it's currently in. Whoa, what's that?
Ty Schmidt
Sending, you know, 90 plus guys to the league most. More than any other, you know, active coach in college football. That's what Kirk does. So I was doing okay.
Pat McAfee
Ya Black is a great name and going to be a great Pittsburgh Steeler. Got a lot of meat. He's big dude. Big dude. Big dude down there with Cam Hayward.
Boston Connor
I was, yeah, I was very, very pumped about this draft. Last year was O lineman for the Steelers. This year was a lot of D lineman. We're stopping the run. But overall it felt like so, like a lot of times the draft comes and then Monday, everyone's doing the Monday morning quarterback on the draft saying like this team's draft sucked. I didn't hear any of that really. This, this morning or this weekend, Sunday or whatever. It was. There was a lot of positivity. Well, besides one team, there was a lot of positivity coming out of the draft on far as, like, as far as people got in grades and stuff like that. It did feel like that more. Yes. One team. Maybe you're saying Cleveland, that was the.
Darius Butler
Only team that I saw a lot of people saying, what the hell is going on?
Boston Connor
But did you also see the tweet? They were like, oh, if this, if they just switched their draft order around, everyone would have been like, oh, this is one of the best drafts, drafts they could have had. Two running backs and Quinshon and Dylan Sampson, who we both love. Two quarterbacks, you know, Mason Graham, Carson swexinger out of UCLA's a dog. But no, I like. I, I like the Browns draft. Honestly, I, I thought everyone liked everyone's draft pretty much.
Pat McAfee
Me, too. I. The only thing the Browns draft conversation was they were the ones that selected Shador and they didn't look excited.
Ty Schmidt
No, it didn't.
Pat McAfee
When they. That was the conversation. I think they were all excited out. Look at how many picks they had. They had so many picks already.
Darius Butler
Good players.
Pat McAfee
They've lost all their. Their juice. That was their last ch. Shador Sanders gets drafted in the fifth round, two rounds after Dylan Gabriel out of Oregon got drafted to the Cleveland Browns. Fascinating dynamics. Obviously, we've seen teams draft two quarterbacks in the same draft, especially if they're a team that needs a quarterback. They got Joe Flacco manning that Ford over there right now. Not that Joe Flacco didn't have success with the Cleveland Browns just two years ago, but I saw the Miz. He put out an initial reaction whenever they traded out at 2 because he wanted Travis Hunter. He wanted the dynamic duo. They go to five. There was a picture of him on plane, like, losing his mind, which a lot of Browns fans probably were like, we have number two overall pick. Let's do something sweet. Let's do something exciting. Especially after how Gladstone described why he picked Travis Hunter, which was like, this is a statement to everybody that we're going to try to test the boundaries of football and we're going to try to be best. That's what the Browns fans potentially wanted. Then I saw the Miz give a take afterwards. He's like, I don't mind what we end up doing. Mason Graham, number five. Okay, we got a D line. We got a great D line with Miles Garrett already. Get a little interior pressure. See if this guy can work. We'll do that. He's from cold area. He understands what it's going to be like in Cleveland. You're load up on Quinshon Judkins. I think he's unbelievable. Oh, yeah, I think he's unbelievable. Harold Fannin Jr. Is a guy that I think could play. Dylan Sampson's a guy that I think could play. I mean, Carson Schweisinger should know more about him. That's on me. Probably could play. Second round pick. Could have been the first round pick, first pick of the second round. So it's like I look at them, I think they did well as well. And to your point, I legitimately, as we were sitting through that first round and then as I was watching through the weekend, it was like, oh, I could see them doing that. And I think it's because there's more good players in the drafts. I think nil now is creating a situation where there's a lot better players now. Throughout the draft. Going into the draft, we heard some draft experts say, you know, from like 10 to 85 is the same. And then this is a big third, fourth round draft. And it's like, I think the reason why they were saying that is because we knew the names that were still available in the third and fourth round all weekend. Best available. I knew we knew them. It wasn't like people we had never heard of before. And I think that's nil transfer portal based. I think that's how it's going to be going forward. One person I am bummed out about, Quinn Ewers. Yeah, Quinn Ewers could have transferred. Quinn Ewers could have played somewhere else. Quinn Ewers could have taken 3,4 million dollars to play college ball somewhere else. Up his draft stock potentially. Instead he ends up being what, a seventh round pick or whatever the case is for the Miami Dolphins. And it's like he's coming from his hunting lodge. And I think Maziano saw a hunting cabin for the first time in his life. He called it awful on the thing. That's a lot of work back there. Oh, yeah, that's a lot of work back there. And I'll tell you what. Law racks. Law racks. I think those are international racks back there too. I think there's a lot of traveling, a lot of investment that is taking place in there. And I think if you ask a couple rednecks, they say, that's a nice collection down there for that boy. I think there was probably some NFL fans that thought to themselves, you see what Queen got in the barn? We need to get him Spinning it for us, don't you think? Now, with that being said, he drops all the way down to the Dolphins very late. That was an interesting story, especially with the nil transfer portal availability for him. Cam Ward goes from a zero star coming out of high school. Triple option, Triple option. I read offense, so didn't even really get a chance. Incarnate. Ward does his thing, then he goes to Washington State, does his thing, transfers to Miami. Four million and a half, two million, whatever it ended up being. Transfers that school back to what it used to be as a dominant force, and then showcases himself to not only potentially be a Heisman and all that, but ends up being the number one overall pick. From zero stars to the number one overall pick. All betting on yourself, believing in yourself and never changing. There's a video obviously that has come out of him and Shador Sanders talking. And Shador said like, hey, we should make a song together or whatever. And he'd go, I don't make, I don't make songs. He said, I'm a football player. When they, when people search Cam Ward, I want to say American football, that is all I want. Tennessee got a great one down there with an amazing story and American dream. I think that is what the draft is all about. Like lives changing forever. Some great, some good. But if you get in the building, you got a chance. Nine year NFL vet Darius J. Butler is here. D Butts, your big takeaway from draft weekend and your thoughts on the draft as a whole.
Ian Rapoport
Draft weekend was great. It always is. Like you mentioned 200 and what, 57 guys realizing their dream and almost nobody goes as high as they think they should have gone outside of obviously the first pick. And then Travis Hunter, big splash move by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Didn't talk enough about Cam Ward, I don't think, obviously because of the Shador, and he probably was the most polarizing prospect coming into it. But yeah, Tennessee Titans, you got a division where you got a bunch of young quarterbacks. We still got a lot of shit to figure out here in Indy. Jacksonville still really figuring out their situation. I think even though they paid Trevor Lawrence. So this could be a potentially franchise changing move, a drafting Cam Ward, you mentioned all of the intangibles. You know, we see what he could do on the football field. But those videos with Shador, those training videos, that, that's kind of been an ongoing thing the last couple offseason, them training together, you see a lot about, you know, just who he is and obviously we know who he is as a football player. So I hope that story continues to go on. But I mean, like you said, at this time of the year, these draft picks happen. We're pretty optimistic about all of these picks and the teams making their decision. They've done their due diligence. I like what the Bears did in this draft. You know, getting lovely, getting Luther Burton iii who coming into the, if you had like the way too early draft, this was like a top 10 type talent. We know what Loveland is as well. So you're getting, you continue to build those pieces around Caleb Williams, last year's number one pick. So I'm excited about their pick. And then the Ravens, I think the Ravens got some really good players as well. Malachi Starks getting into that, into that secondary. Mike Green, who has some off field things, that's the reason why he dropped and he led the nation in sack. So just a great, great all around weekend, man. Draft is always excited for every franchise. Excited for, you know, everybody and what the teams did. And obviously the big story with Shador, you know, obviously him dropping to the fifth round, I don't think anybody expected that. I don't think, I think we all can agree that it's not on field. It's some off the field things. And it's always the saying that we say in football, you know, act how you can afford to act. And the NFL is always in that position, I think as a whole where when they can show you who has the power, who has the control, they do. And it's another moment for him to figure it out. I loved what I saw from the family, specifically Shiloh, his big brother. He did a lot of things to kind of continue to support him. He still had the excitement when he went fifth round, still went out and celebrated. I love that. And you just got to respond. I think Shador's always responded. He will continue to respond. But yeah, this was an exciting overall draft weekend.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, be who you can afford to be. And you know, if any of the anonymous stories are true, which once again, we hate anonymous stories, don't like them, feels like they happen and they're going to continue to happen. No matter how much you say we don't like them, they're going to continue to have people that hate them going to continue to use them. A lot of anonymous sources coming out about this meetings that they have with Shador Sanders and a lot of the anonymous sources from the meetings are saying worst meeting of all time. Not even close. Not, not even like worst meeting of all time. Now granted, all these could be a little bit dramatized because of personal feelings towards, you know, either Coach prime or Shador or whatever. But it felt like there was numerous of those coming out from different places. And it's like, was that all coordinated or was that all everybody's experience, you know? And was there a chance you say act, you know, that be who you could afford to be? I do wonder if there was a lot of NFL teams that were like, nope, that's not how this is going to go. If you were Peyton Manning, if you were Andrew Luck, if you were Cam Ward, maybe, possibly. But the talent we've seen from you is certainly NFL capable. But you haven't won. I mean, you haven't won anything. Obviously, you've played very good. So I do wonder if that was the big turnoff, if it was the meetings. And I was not in a meeting, so I couldn't tell you what those meetings would look like. I have seen day balls meetings with quarterbacks from the past, and I'll tell you, you could see how that would be a little bit. This is what a day ball meeting with a quarterback is like. In the draft process for the New York Giants, who were potentially going to draft Shador Sanders. And then there was an alleged report. Once again, all these things have allegedly been fake. But how'd they get out to begin with? Shador allegedly did not do well in a day ball meeting which goes like this.
AJ Hawk
Draw me up. Your favorite pass play. I don't care what personnel, as detailed as you can be.
Pat McAfee
Got you.
AJ Hawk
And we are all true freshman quarterbacks in your quarterback room. And you are teaching it to us.
Biz Nasty
This was a big staple on our offense.
AJ Hawk
Okay.
Biz Nasty
Just based off the athletes that we had.
AJ Hawk
Was that neighbors?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Do you have a favorite route to throw on?
Pat McAfee
This one? Yeah. This one? That one?
Quentin Richardson
Sure.
Pat McAfee
For sure.
Ty Schmidt
Why, you like that one?
Pat McAfee
I love when teams try to go.
AJ Hawk
Man and hell yeah. Gun. That son of a. Empty play, huh?
Pat McAfee
Starts and empty.
AJ Hawk
Okay, now you're homing it.
Pat McAfee
Yes, sir.
AJ Hawk
All right.
Pat McAfee
Ying and then home in it.
AJ Hawk
Jj so is this signal to you or did you call it in a huddle?
I
Huddle.
AJ Hawk
I'd change that and give you one simple word. I don't know how the hell you get that.
Ty Schmidt
All that out there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Coach Harbaugh. Love it that way.
Ian Rapoport
Hey, J.
AJ Hawk
Erase that Z, make him the F, race the X and make him the Z, race the W, make him the X, race the T and make them the H. Ready?
Biz Nasty
Yep.
AJ Hawk
Gun trolley Wright, 64, house X in. Give it back to me. Nope. Don't look at it.
Pat McAfee
Oh, you want me.
AJ Hawk
Give it back to me.
Pat McAfee
How we call it? The whole play?
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Gun.
Ian Rapoport
Charlie Wright. How's fn?
AJ Hawk
Okay. X in.
Pat McAfee
X in.
AJ Hawk
That's okay. And then if it's cover one, what do we want you to do? Probably delta zone.
Pat McAfee
All right.
AJ Hawk
I like that answer.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Gun dolphin right.
AJ Hawk
Gun dolphin right. 72 Tundra float H angle. Gun dolphin right.
J
72 T Dundra float H angle.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
So Tundra stands for what, 200.
Pat McAfee
200.
AJ Hawk
And what does float stand for?
Pat McAfee
It's got the corner of the app flat.
AJ Hawk
We call it a flag. So, I mean, we end up saying corner flag, but it's the alpha and the angle is an angle. You got me on that easy stuff. Then you use Rita to the right and lend it to the left. It was a flip formation. Good.
Pat McAfee
Rita to right, Linda to the left.
AJ Hawk
72. Five man protection slide to the wheel. So if the strength of the formation is right, which, what formation is that again?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, good enough. And right.
Quentin Richardson
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Right. He's there. The wheel's over there. The line would slide there. We'd say 72 Rita.
Quentin Richardson
72 Rita.
Pat McAfee
Gotcha.
AJ Hawk
So let's say this before you go to the next one, you have one play that you can run, pass play. And you have to run that play anytime you want to run a pass in the game. So if there's 70 plays in the game and there's 45 passes, you have to run this one play every time you got it in your head you know the play you want.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, let's do it.
AJ Hawk
Draw it up.
Pat McAfee
So, I mean, you can see how some of these meetings might be pretty. That's just hardcore. That's just day balls meeting. So whenever you get it. Me too. Like I. I was watching that. I was getting more nervous for the guys as he was reciting words off. And I think I have a pretty good memory. I'm like gun xn. I. I think, I think down to the end and then the tundra two under and then the slope, slant, go or whatever it' they got to start to try to piece together why the terminology is what it is for the coach in that meeting at the time. And they're analyzing all of that.
Ian Rapoport
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
So that's just one portion of the meeting. And we're not saying Shador didn't do well in that meeting or that portion of the meeting. We're just saying these meetings are pretty. I mean, it's a pretty real deal. Yeah. Strenuous. This is a multi million dollar interview. And I think the difference is the quarterback position is so, so, like, unique. If Shador had headphones, allegedly, this is anonymous headphones on in the meetings, could whatever. Just all the shit that they were saying could be going on in the meetings where they were bad, individual meetings. If he was a wide receiver or a DB or even a running back and he was the guy, I think there'd be a chance, like, oh, I like the way this guy. This guy just has that, like, fuck it, mindset moxie. We like that at the quarterback position, though, it is held in such higher regard. And I'm not saying that it is only the quarterback that wins games, but if you don't have a great quarterback, your franchise is going to go into the dumps. Like, that is literally what it is. So whenever they're trying to figure out who is going to be their person, who's going to be the face of the franchise, who's going to be their pillar, you could see how, if it was bad talking or bad anything else, how some people could get a little scared. Now. We weren't in there. We were just going off what anonymous sources were. And like I said, in the open, though, none of this matters.
Boston Connor
No matter.
Pat McAfee
You get in the building and you're a dog and you get along with people and you're a good leader, Boom, your next contract's gonna be much bigger than this contract anyways. That's just like, I think the reality of the situation.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, yeah. It's obviously how you respond in those meetings. I've been in those meetings, obviously, from the defensive standpoint, and a level of it is intimidating. And the people doing the meetings, they don't expect you to get everything right, but they're just seeing how you react, how you respond, how you learn, you know? Cause everybody kind of learns differently. And you're kind of, you know, learning to speak a different language. A quick crash course. So I don't know how, but it couldn't have gone that. That terrible if. Because they had that late meeting with Shador again. The Giants did specifically kind of right before the draft. And I spoke to someone close to the Giants organization. They were saying it's just kind of get them know. Know him better as a person. Right. So maybe he. He rubbed people the wrong way as a person. Once again, yikes.
Quentin Richardson
If you are.
Pat McAfee
This guy can't be like this, let's go fly out there.
Ian Rapoport
You know what I mean? And that's what you do. That's what different organizations deal with. And these people talk you know, all these people talk. It's a fraternity. When you come to coaches and decision makers amongst the business. And I think, you know, young people, you know, don't know that as much, aren't familiar with how close the business is. Everybody kind of, you know, wives, children, everybody's, you know, kind of connected. We move around. So we were with coach Mike over the week and he talked about all the different places. I had no idea he was, you know, associated with the 49ers when they were considering taking Alex Smith or the first round pick. So first overall pick. So it's just so many different things. And all of it matters. When you are a prospect coming out, people tell you, your agent, obviously in this situation, your dad, your family, everything matters. You know, all the people, you matter, all the people along the way. And I've heard nothing but good things about Shadore. But, you know, I'm not a decision maker, so it doesn't just go for Shador. A lot of really, really, really good football players went lower than expected this draft. Will Johnson is a guy corner out of Michigan who we thought would be a top 10, top 15, top 20 pick. He went 47 overall to the Cardinals. Kobe Bryant, corner out of Kansas. I don't even think he got drafted. So it just happens every draft. But like you said, it doesn't matter how you get into the buildings, how you respond, and what do you do.
Pat McAfee
Once you get in there as pick 222?
Ian Rapoport
Hell, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Okay, I'm going to let you know. I thought I should have been 220, 221. Sure, sure. That was the early projections drove you. Yeah. You get in that building, it does not matter legitimately. Like, there's a six. There was some linebacker that got drafted I think, in the sixth round and they were talking about what he can do on defense. I'm like, he ain't playing defense, brother. Yep. You need to talk about whether or not this guy can play special teams. And if he can play special teams, he's going to make the team. And if he can't play special teams, he's not going to make the team. It's as easy as that. Whenever you're looking at it and anybody can buy in Shador, he's not going to be the starter, right? Well, maybe, maybe. I mean, Russell Wilson was drafted third round after they paid Matt Flynn in Seattle and they just paid Matt Flynn and everybody thought Matt Flynn was going to be the quarterback. They draft Russell Wilson in the third round. That's not really like an automatic projection into a starting position or whatever. And then reports are coming out like, hey, Russell Wilson's becoming the guy out here. And then all of a sudden he's the starter over them just paying the guy. So maybe Shador is able to become the starter. Let's assume that that is not the case in reality for any fifth round, fourth round, third round, second round, even quarterback that gets drafted. But if he gets in there and just does his shit, I mean it's going to work. I mean that is literally how the NFL works. You would hope. Still a meritocracy. If you go in there, work your ass off this for not just Shador. This is for everybody.
Ian Rapoport
What's that Rodrigo, A couple years ago with Kelvin Shepard, hard knocks.
Pat McAfee
I want to give him, I want.
Biz Nasty
To put him in here.
Ian Rapoport
Don't make me put this with a 56th round pick, whatever, you know, so that, that's kind of how it is because from the top, you know, the investment is made on certain guys with the money or the draft slot and they want to look. Right? You know, I want to look. If he drafted guy third round, that's the guy that's kind of going to have the leg up first round, whatever. So if you are a fifth rounder, it is a uphill battle, but it can definitely be done because ultimately teams want to win. That's what matters the most.
Darius Butler
Well, and even just looking at the Browns like he's probably going to have a chance to play at some point, maybe he doesn't start but. But next year we're going to see him playing.
Pat McAfee
A lot of injuries always at the Cleveland quarterback. Yeah. And that's some. Is that the weather you think the field. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who might have the answer. Senior NFL Insider for NFL Network, friend of the program, ladies and gentlemen, Ian Rapapore. Rap. What up, dude? Hey, obviously we're discussing, because we're on espn, we're discussing Shador Sanders falling to the fifth round.
I
True. Not all lot of networks are addressing that.
Pat McAfee
So yeah, nobody else is talking about it. The agreed. So he falls. But he's not the only one. There was a lot of big names I think late in this draft. Do we think that's because transfer portal nil. The way college football currently is. Is this what the future looks like where a lot of the big names and kind of the older players and almost a plethora of players in the draft?
I
No, I don't think so. But I mean the Shador thing is like, like yes, There were some players who fell. There were some players who like, like, you know, dbut mentioned Will Johnson. I mean that's a pretty good example of a guy who is super talented and just based on the way he plays should absolutely have been like a middle first round pick. The knee injury, you know, which has the potential to be, to significantly sort of limit his career. That played a part. Now it doesn't have to. Miles Jack had a similar thing and he played seven years, which is a, a great career. Everyone would be happy with a seven year career, but teams didn't feel like they could take the risk until, you know, the second round and that's why he fell. The Shador thing is different. Like I have a lot of conversations leading up to the draft. I talk to every team. I get a lot of intel. I feel like I prepare myself for every freaking thing that could possibly happen. Like that is what I do for the month before the draft. I spend the entire time on the phone and it never crossed my mind that Shador Sanders could be a fifth round pick. It was not in the realm of possibility. So like to me, all time draft stories like this is one of them.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think so. Fifth round is a crazy drop.
I
Crazy.
Pat McAfee
I wonder when the decisions were made by the teams who were looking to draft a quarterback. I wonder if some teams weren't thinking about drafting a quarterback until like fourth, fifth round. So they're automatically ruled out as opposed to, you know, because they'll say 32 teams passed on them however many times it's like how many, how many teams are actually thinking about taking a quarterback at all in the first three rounds? They probably had a plan of differently, but there certainly were teams that took quarterbacks in those rounds that decided not to take Shador. When did that come about? And all these anonymous reports we're hearing about the meetings with teams, is it, is that, how much has that been chatted about since the draft ended?
I
I mean it was chatted about a lot before the draft and you know, before the draft ended, while it was still going on, like meetings weren't great.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that was like what, a day before the draft started, those, those started coming out, right? Wasn't that kind of. Yeah.
I
And you know, and the reason a lot of that happens is because, you know, the same reason why big news gets reported on, you know, game day, morning or other pregame shows is because like that's when you, you sometimes, you sort of save your best, most thorough, detailed reporting for right before the event. So like, you know, Tom Pelissero comes out with the, with the article with 12,000.
Pat McAfee
He was sitting on that. He was sitting on that for weeks.
I
But. Yeah, but. But a lot. You know, all those conversations, like I had several of those conversations with teams about like, all right, how was the meeting? Wasn't great. Like, all right, why? And it's like, well, you know, just didn't come off great. And I'm like, all right, what does that mean? Not, you know, probably nothing. It's like I spent a lot of time trying to figure I'm not just talking about Shador. This happens with a lot of different prospects and a lot of different things. Like these guys are picked apart like never before or since ever. It's the only. The draft are these things picked apart to this level. And it's very challenging. It sucks in a lot of ways, but teams are making multi million dollar investments, so like, it's on them to find out everything you can. But like, all the things that were discussed publicly in Tom's article and other places are all the stuff that are being discussed privately as well. And like, one thing about Shador that I keep coming back to is like, you know, Deion is awesome, great player, great dude, was a very excellent colleague, worked with him for a long time and every interaction with him has been great. And honestly, all my interactions with Shador, of which there have been several, like, have been really good. Like he. Me too, when we FaceTime. Like, he spent plenty of time talking to my kids on FaceTime. Like, seems like an awesome guy. The advice he got, I don't think was good.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I wonder, I wonder if he thought it was confidence he was showing, you know, that's why I wish that report would have been a little earlier, you know, so then maybe we can correct course a little bit and maybe there's a chance of calling and say, hey, I did not mean to come across that way. I it. But instead we're sitting on stories. We're sitting on stories doing that. I didn't know this is what you journalists do. It's unbelievable. So maybe this is a great learning lesson too for this entire process. And once again, in building, anything can happen as long as you're in there. Not as Easy as a 5th rounder as it is a 1st rounder, but once you're in the building, you have a chance. D, Bud has a question for you. Rap.
Ian Rapoport
Usually we get a lot of stories. I know you guys probably sit on these stories, but Monday, after the draft, any trades that almost happened, especially in the first Round that didn't necessarily go through.
I
Yeah, well, I mean, one of them.
Biz Nasty
We.
I
We talked about the Jihad Campbell trade to the Eagles while the Chargers were on the clock. You guys heard this story, right, I assume.
Pat McAfee
No.
Ian Rapoport
No, I didn't hear this one.
I
Okay. So you guys were busy during the draft. That's right. So thank you. The Eagles, I didn't watch. I was also busy. But I hear great things about it anyway.
Pat McAfee
Especially to be clear. I think this was our best one. Now, didn't have all the shenanigans, but I think as a draft show, I think it was a good draft. I think we had. I think we did a good draft show.
Ty Schmidt
I think so, too.
Pat McAfee
Coach McCarthy was awesome. Shrags is the draft guy.
Ian Rapoport
Thank you.
Darius Butler
Crushed.
Pat McAfee
Like, he is actually the draft guy.
I
He's great.
Pat McAfee
So I watched it back. I thought it was good. Boys in the back handled it, crushed it. Lower thirds in.
I
You watch it back. Like film study.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Yeah, I watched. Yeah.
I
Oh. I mean, I do the same with my stuff, obviously. I'm just. I was just wondering.
Pat McAfee
See, that's the thing you work for. Like, that's the. There's a difference in the entirety of it all, how we view things. But nonetheless, what was the question?
I
Oh, yes.
Pat McAfee
Right.
I
Jahad Campbell.
Pat McAfee
So.
I
Jahad Campbell. So I think I'm almost positive that the deal is done between the Eagles and the Chargers at 22 to get jihad Campbell, which was the guy. I knew there was someone the Eagles were targeting that they would move up for. I, like, I wasn't a hundred percent sure. I wondered if it was going to be James Pierce, and I don't think it was. I just. I couldn't figure out who it was, honestly. And then I hear Jihad Campbell's gonna go to the Eagles. And then he, like, thinks it's done and I think is about to come out. And I had to be like, no, there's no trade. The Chargers just decided to pick. And that was Amari and Hampton, right? Yes. And then the trade was off. And I'm like. So at that point, like, I'm like, all right, well, that trade didn't happen. Then I hear the Eagles are still calling. So I, like, I'm, like, tweeting and saying on tv, like, the Eagles are still calling up, trying to trade, trying to trade. And they ended up trading only one spot.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
I
To take the guy. They would have taken nine picks earlier. So they ended up saving draft picks, and he ended up getting less money, which sucks. But worked out well for the Eagles to get to get the same guy that they wanted.
Pat McAfee
They thought the Chiefs were going to take them or whatever.
I
I think it was. They thought someone else was going to trade into that spot to take him.
Pat McAfee
Got it.
I
You know, wait another second.
Pat McAfee
Got to go.
I
We've come this far and like.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we've waited this long. Yeah, okay.
I
Right. The other one was, I'd heard that the 49ers called up a couple spots to hold on, so that's not the full draft picks, actually. I think maybe the. I think the 49ers called up at 7 and 8, and I assume that was to try to get a tackle, but it also might have been to try to get Mikel Williams, who they ended up getting.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Yeah. Because it felt like a lot of people just made good decisions as the draft continued to happen, you know. And what we talked to John Schneider. He said the phones weren't as active as he had thought they were going to be. And then we heard reports that the phones were super active at different times. Was it just a couple teams that were active, or was it a lot of people?
I
Yeah, well, so it's always. Always really interesting. So before the draft, I'm starting to hear that a couple teams are really, really active of trying to trade up. And so the teams I heard the Texans were and I heard the Broncos were. And, like, no one's ever going to tell you who you're trying. Who they're trying to trade up for, because obviously they don't want someone else taking them. So the only thing I can tell is, like, when the calls stop, right? Like, if you're trying to trade up for someone and then all of a sudden the call stop, it's like, all right, well, you were probably trying to trade up for that guy. The Bears try to take. The Bears take Colson. Love one at 10. And a bunch of calls stopped, and I was like, wow. Like, he was maybe the guy. And I don't know specifically those teams are trying to trade up for him, because I think there were some others, like Booker, people, like. But, like. And, like, I didn't know this. We all thought Tyler Warren was the dude, but it seems like Loveland was kind of.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, he is.
I
Well, I mean, obviously. You know what I'm saying, right?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I do know what you're saying. Yes. I completely understand with what you're saying about Loveland. And we obviously chit chatted about him being the first tight end off the board, and then you're over here saying, yeah, I have everybody's phones tapped. They were very active. And as soon as this guy is no longer available, everybody stops. Well, that means product that was wanting to be acquired is no longer able to be acquired, seemingly. Congrats to Loveland. What a dog.
Biz Nasty
Wow.
Pat McAfee
Hey, you're the belle of the ball, bub. You were the belle of the ball. Not as much as Cam Ward, who was a zero star high school recruit all the way to a number one overall pick. Unbelievable story. And then Travis Hunter, obviously going to change Jacksonville. Do we have old Gladstone's quote about Travis Hunter and why the pick was made? Go ahead.
Ian Rapoport
You know, as we sit here, Travis Hunter is a Jacksonville Jaguar. And really what comes to mind for me, right. Thinking about the sport of football and really the power of the game itself. Right. Its capacity to ignite belief.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Ian Rapoport
Belief in ourselves, belief in others. Right. Belief in achieving what many may deem impossible. Travis Hunter, he embodies belief.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Right.
Ian Rapoport
He's a rare person, he's a rare player. But he's also a reminder that the boundaries of the game of football were built to be challenged. And so the decision to select him was actually a statement. A statement for how we plan to move who we are. And we want him to be nothing more than him. Because when he is, he elevates the space around him, the football field to the city, to the game of football itself. Travis Hunter is who we've been hunting up. Couldn't be more jacked to be sitting right here beside him and introduce you all to the man of the hour.
Pat McAfee
What a promo. What a promo from old Gladstone there. I'll tell you what, it feels like it was pretty obvious they were going to make that move all along. Gladstone didn't think of that in just one night? No. That promo right there has been a couple month. That's been a couple month or there.
I
The way he was preparing the speech.
Pat McAfee
Yes. I think he was preparing a speech for a couple months personally because he said the way he lifts his space, the whole space. He was talking about them selling out Colorado lifted that entire thing. Ratings. Every game that he was a part of was huge. Like everything he was saying was a promo cut to say, like, this is who this guy actually is. Not like what I'm just making up. I think he was obsessed with getting Travis. Sounds like this was the only decision for this guy to make. I'm new here. This place needs a spark. We got the one. This guy plays both ways. He's beloved by everybody. I'm going to go make a move to go get him and Liam Cohen said, get them down here to Duvall, it will change the entire town. They don't have a stadium in two years, but they have a team that has been trying and trying. Khan has been trying down. Oh yeah, hasn't he? Don't you think Khan has been trying? He wanted to build an entire city for the Jacksonville Jaguars within the city of Jacksonville. So now they got a guy, a young guy and a young coach that make a big time play. Cleveland Browns. I assume a lot of people wanted to get to two or how many people do you think were trying to get up there to potentially snag Travis.
I
Hunter, as far as I could tell? Well, I think there was a. Another team made kind of an initial call, but as far as I can tell, the Jaguars were the only team that made this like real significant concerted effort to try to get to 2. This was a really fascinating one apparently. And one of the GM said this. They've been talking for two weeks. I found out about this potentially on I think it was either Tuesday or Wednesday. And I was told the Jaguars are going to do something bold. Don't be surprised if it's offense, but they're going to do something bold. And so I'm like, bold. All right, so that means maybe Genty or maybe Tetaro and McMillan. That's kind of what I'm thinking. And then I'm starting to hear that teams are calling up to 2 and 3 and I'm like, the only reason you. I mean, with all due respect to Abdul Carter, who is awesome, like Hunter would be the guy you'd probably trade up for, I think. And like there's most people thought there was two super elite players in the draft, it was Carter and it was Hunter. So I'm like, if the Jaguars are going to be bold, if they're going to do something on offense, if they're maybe if someone's calling up to two, it's got to be the Jaguars. And I basically spent the next day trying to figure out, which I think by like Thursday morning it was pretty clear like, Jaguars are going to trade up. And it was, you know, it's a fun, fascinating trade. It'll be. I can't wait to look back at it. But I've never had more people on both sides say, I can't believe they did this. This is crazy. Why would you. And then it's but, but the opposite. So like when people think both sides are crazy, maybe that's a good move for everyone.
Pat McAfee
You know, hey, if both sides are happy, that's a good deal. And. And the reason why the Jacksonville Jaguars are happy is because they think they got a first round corner and they got a first round wide receiver. So we give up another first rounder. Sure. We're just getting a corner. Who's the number one corner on our board or instead of the number one wide receiver we have on our board? I think that's probably how they're viewing it. And you heard they're going to be bold while fortune favors the bold. That's right. And if you listen to Jimmy Gladstoner. Wow. Yeah. I'll tell you what. He needs to be speaking to the team. Team. They need to have GM speaking to the team. You all have been placed here for a reason. Each week I think he needs to be given one of those.
Ian Rapoport
Hell of an intro. Hell of a promo. Not everybody up here loved it. Just based on. I can tell. Based on everybody. As the respect.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
I didn't.
Pat McAfee
I didn't. What?
I
I need more details on that.
Ty Schmidt
I didn't.
Pat McAfee
Why didn't you? Like what? Jimmy Glass.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, we're playing football. We're not trying to split the atom. I understand.
Pat McAfee
They're running a business. No, I know.
Ty Schmidt
I know.
Pat McAfee
They're selling hope down.
Ty Schmidt
I know.
Pat McAfee
Belief. They said.
Ty Schmidt
I get it. I get all of it. And I'm gonna reserve judgment until we see what happens on the field. But just calm down, Jimbo. Just calm down. Okay. I get it. That's a big pick.
Pat McAfee
It is.
Ty Schmidt
That's a big pick.
Darius Butler
That.
Ty Schmidt
That was a little much.
Pat McAfee
It was a little much. You saw. I didn't see his.
Ian Rapoport
Right. Yeah, I saw it. We may have spoken about a little before the show too. But I saw once he saw it again. But I loved it. And I love the move from Jacksonville. You already paid Trevor Lawrence. There are still question marks around Trevor Lawrence. Everybody kind of looks at that deal right now when their quarterback is up to be paid. So, you know, Gladstone and Liam, you put the pieces around him for him to be successful. So I absolutely love the move from Jacksonville keeping Travis Hunter, you know, Florida boy in Florida, obviously a dynamic player on both sides of the ball. Still interested to see how those snaps are split. But I mean, Travis Hunter is no denying he is an absolute unicorn on the football field.
Pat McAfee
I love the thought of Travis Hunter going down there though, starting on offense and starting on defense, playing full games, playing a full season. Yeah. And just this becomes a normal.
Ty Schmidt
That'd be awesome.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Travis Hunter plays the whole game in the NFL the whole season. If he's Able to accomplish this? Yeah, I mean this, this should be a sports science spectacle of some sort of how his body is able to do something that nobody's body's ever been able to accomplish. I mean, people are getting limp into the finish line and that's 17 games. Roger Goodell's already got an 18 game schedule. Ready 18 2. I think I speak for the fans here, if you guys want to listen. We'd much rather a regular season game than a preseason game. Right? Yeah. See, So I think 18:2 is the right move. So if he's able to do that.
Ian Rapoport
Man, plus playoffs, plus the super bowl.
Pat McAfee
That would be unbelievable for the human. Just humans as a whole.
I
These highlights are ridiculous. Yeah, I mean, they really are.
Ian Rapoport
A hundred times and every time they're still as special. And you talk about, you know, Cam Ward's journey, like his journey was wild too, you know, to be one of the top rated players in the country coming out of high school, following coach prime to Jackson State, talking about changing the space around you. He completely changed Jackson State and I think kind of FCS and HBCU football. The eyes he brought to that program. And then going to Colorado, doing the same thing, winning a Heisman in Colorado and then, you know, going number two overall in the NFL draft. And then now, you know, the movie is obviously still being written. But if he can actually be a full time two way player in the NFL and doesn't sound like Jimmy Gladstone is going to hold him back from chasing that dream.
Pat McAfee
They want it.
Ian Rapoport
I love it.
Pat McAfee
And remember Tony Khan, wrestling promoter? Sure. We gotta go, huh?
Darius Butler
Chief strategy.
Pat McAfee
We got a guy that plays both sides. We're the only ones that have a guy that plays the whole game. We can sell tickets to that.
Ian Rapoport
That's probably Tony. That put there's a chance.
Pat McAfee
Jimmy Gladstone.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
This is one on one, huh? You remember, do you know Andre the Giant? Do you remember Andre? One of one. We used to be able to tour him. They toured him around. He went everywhere, beating everybody, every town. Then there was a Hulkster brother. Why? Well, actually, sorry, Bruno San Martino. I apologize. Pittsburgh legend. Shouldn't have done that. But if we got one, if we got a guy and they are championing him, I mean, and you, you know, Liam Cohen's going to be able to drop some shit for him to get open.
Ian Rapoport
Yes, sir.
Pat McAfee
Let's assume Travis is going to have some highlights each week.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And then on defense, is. Is he going to be able to play both ways? Defensive? If he was full time defense, he'd Be able to play against the Colts? Yes, against any team.
Ian Rapoport
Absolutely. And on offense, I mean, you got Brian Thomas Jr. On the other side of him, who's a bonafide number one, probably, you know, potential superstar in the league. And then on defense, I think absolutely can play. And you watching those highlights, you can tell that he's a smart player. That's the other thing that's very impressive.
Pat McAfee
So he's going to be able to do it?
Ian Rapoport
Yeah. Ball skills, like, does he have the.
I
Time to do it?
Boston Connor
What do you mean?
Ian Rapoport
You know, that's a good question. It's a great question.
I
Meeting time to do it. You know, I think if he's able.
Pat McAfee
To do defense full time, he'll be able to do offense full time because Cohen will just draw up shit for him.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You know, like, that is. I don't want to say offense is as easy as that, but for him could be like, if you're trying to simplify this as much as possible to make things happen. It's like he's an offensive guru, right? Isn't he?
Ian Rapoport
It's just week to week, the game plan and the installs and things change so much. So just being on the same, like we've had, you know, Aaron on with even like the signals, you know, certain signals and situations, two minute when things are moving so fast, you just have to get those reps in that continuity. You know, defense is the same thing. I know a lot of people just think, oh, you know, it's only a certain amount of calls, which there is a more limited playbook on defense sense. But the adjustments you have to make on defense been on the same page. But everything we've seen from Travis Hunter on every level has shown that he can handle it. And he seems like, you know, he's all football, you know, he fish, he goes fishing, he does some other things, but he seems like he is completely enamored with football, learning the game and playing at a high level.
Pat McAfee
Can't wait to watch him, see if he does in the AFC South. Okay, good luck. Tyler Warren's coming to town. Tyler Warren's coming to town. Same with JTTs. Good football player. Yeah, we got a bunch of dogs here in Indianapolis. You just made a noise. Something happened.
I
No, I was going to say something.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
I
So something happened to my brain where it kind of triggered. You mentioned some of the negative meeting stuff with Shador. Okay, two things about some of the other prospects, right? I was, but I've been. Might takes my while. Takes my brain a while.
Pat McAfee
I Respect it. I respect it.
I
The Travis Hunter feedback from his meetings interaction could not have been more A plus. Like, p. Like, people loved him, just character wise. Like, obviously the player is great and the stamina, like, that's like the thing that people were like, can you believe this? But interactions with him, I think were from the people I spoke with, just not just teams, but, like, basically everyone he interacted with. Like, a. And awesome. The other thing was you guys talked about Cam Ward, who is like, you know, for. Because of the chador thing. I think we all, as like an NFL world, haven't probably talked about Cam Ward enough because we've known he was going number one for a while. We interviewed Mario Cristobal, his coach of Miami, during draft week. On the Insiders finished the interview. You know, you're like, all right, hey, thanks for coming. Appreciate it. He was like, guys, like, interview's over. Cameras are off. But like, we could still see him. Guys, listen, he is a dog. He's like, Cam is just wanted us to know, just not for the public, just for our brains, that this guy is a dog. He's like, he will change that franchise. He is the best, and I guarantee you he will be successful. And I was like, that is like, okay. And he gave a bunch of examples. Why? Like, just the time he puts in on that. But, like, that was pretty cool.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I love hearing that about people because that's kind of what we promote on the show business. Like, yeah, you need dogs.
Darius Butler
That's all right.
Pat McAfee
That's literally all you're trying to do is find somebody that loves ball and is a dog. That video that's circulating of him and Shador talking about making a song and him saying American football. A football player. And I think his dad. And you never know what's real and what isn't real. Calvin is his dad. Calvin Ward? Yeah. Yeah, that's his dad. Does he have an X account?
I
He does.
Pat McAfee
Okay. So he tweeted to. I think Schrager said something about, oh, this guy wants to do is play football. And Calvin Award, maybe. Is that the Twitter account?
I
I believe that is him, yes.
Pat McAfee
So that is him that tweeted or threaded underneath that and said, that's it. That's all he wants to do. Always ever want to do. Like, his dad was like that. He is a football guy through and through. And it feels like not only has that served him well and probably had to make him be gritty, you know, zero star recruitment. Think about that boy. We talk about bone crazy.
Darius Butler
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
We talk about bone here. Bone was washing his own pads down in D3 wins a national championship at a left tackle. That big bone. That guy loves ball. That guy loves ball. D1 Football is at moments and times incredibly hard and difficult. That's 100. Correct. That's all he wants to do. He's always been that way. Yeah. So it's Calvin. A Ward too? Yeah. Hell yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Still got it.
Darius Butler
Calvin Award.
Pat McAfee
Bingo. I think that's potentially how I remembered it because they were awarded this guy. I think they got a guy down in Tennessee. I think they do. Feels like all indicate from what we believe in, the way we talk, if the guy has enough talent and he's a dog, he's going to be good. That's legitimately how I feel. Now there are some teams that maybe haven't figured out their quarterback situation or have a question mark at the quarterback situation. Connor has a question for you. Ian. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Rap sheet. Kirk Cousins not getting traded over the draft weekend. Is he just going to be the backup in Atlanta? Maybe get used if Pennis gets hurt? And then how come they traded a first rounder to get back into the first? That was kind of a like a fleece, if you will.
Pat McAfee
Two packs of cigs. Yeah.
Darius Butler
At least.
I
People still smoke cigarettes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You're gearing it right now.
I
That's. That's fair. So the Kirk Cousins thing, I was, you know, kind of keeping track of and trying to figure like, all right, if he leaves Atlanta, where might he go? And I think if your good friend Aaron Rodgers does not go to Pittsburgh, I think that would be a possibility. But it feels to me like the other possibilities kind of don't exist. Like, people talked about the Vikings. Okay, well, they traded for Sam Howell. People talked about maybe the Browns. Okay, well, they, I don't know if you guys know this, but they drafted a second quarterback in Shador Sanders. So I don't. I don't think he's going there, and.
Pat McAfee
I don't think he's going.
I
And Dylan Gabriel.
Pat McAfee
Jeez, this guy journalism just a tiny bit.
Boston Connor
Third round pick.
Pat McAfee
Third round draft pick, Dylan Gabriel.
I
It's true. I actually came on the broadcast, I was like, you guys are not going to believe this, but Dylan Gabriel is going to be drafted before Shador Sanders. And everybody makes. Made fun of me and it happened. So I don't think Cleveland's a spot for him anymore. And so, like, the more this goes, I kind of think he's going to be the Falcons backup, which, like, there's no source on that because the Falcons have told us this from the beginning.
Pat McAfee
It's just.
I
We kind of, like, just didn't believe them, it feels like. But I think. I mean, he's. He's got family in Atlanta. I believe his kids have grandparents in Atlanta. I think it's his wife's family or how much. But anyway, he's got. He's got family in Atlanta. I'm not sure, like, he's gonna. He's got no trade clause. I'm not sure he's gonna go anywhere unless, like, something crazy happens where he would be able to go be the starter. What was the other thing you asked?
Darius Butler
The trade?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, the get back into the first Rams.
I
So I was Pretty sure at 15, the Falcons were going to take James Pierce. They had done a ton of research. They had a visit with him and his mom the day before the draft because there was some character concerns on Pierce. So they, like, spent so much time and hours getting to know everyone he knows, meeting his family, getting to know him and understand him. And I thought they were going to take him to 15 because that is how they viewed him. And then they took Jalen Walker at 15, I think, because you just couldn't pass up the talent. And then immediately I hear Falcons are trying to get back in.
Ty Schmidt
In.
I
And I'm like, oh, wow. Okay. And so they are decisive down there.
Boston Connor
They are.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Aren't they? They are decisive.
Ian Rapoport
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
They try.
Boston Connor
They're not afraid.
Pat McAfee
They will make decisions. They will go. They. You want to.
I
They will.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
I
They will make decisions.
Ian Rapoport
Pass rush sucked last year.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I hope it works out for the Falcons just because they do things so much different than literally everybody.
I
I mean, the Pennix pick looks so good now, though.
Ian Rapoport
True.
I
Like, who would they have taken this year?
Pat McAfee
That's what I'm saying. We've. Everybody killed him. The night they drafted Pennx. Everybody, Us included. It was a surprise. O's the mentalist somehow had it predicted on his little envelope thing, which makes no sense, but it was a surprise. And we all kind of, you know. Yeah. Rap just did. Yeah. O's. O's is. O's got good brain, but they draft Pennocks and everybody's down on them. And then, like, you have to start thinking now, well, why did they do that? And they're like, well, we think injuries potentially happen in the NFL and we liked him a lot. Then he starts playing. Now he's going to be their starter, and it's like, if it works out for them, they're probably going to stick Their chest out and say, you don't know anything. Like, nobody thought we were right here. They've made a lot of decisions like that. Hey, we're only interviewing defensive players at the combine. Okay. All right. Maybe get some information on the other guys. They're going to be maybe playing against you or something. No, don't need it. Only doing this. This is what we're focused on right now. It's like, I love the way they're going about it, and I hope it works legitimately. NFC South. I hope it's. I hope it works. And I hope Penix is good because he was so fun at Washington.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And he was so fun in Indiana. It was like he was a guy that I.
I
He was good last year, I think.
Pat McAfee
The NFL. I think so, too. Yeah.
Ian Rapoport
To get thrown in that spot as a rookie. I think he did well. It'll be smart to keep Kirk Cousins the backup, you know, because Penix obviously has some injury history as well, so. So if you can keep a guy.
Pat McAfee
I would assume Kirk isn't wanting that.
Ian Rapoport
I mean. No, he would want it. What's he making next year to be a backup?
Pat McAfee
28.
Boston Connor
And is he the type to force his way out?
Pat McAfee
I don't know. He'll put that little brain thing on, like we said.
I
I think he would have done it already.
Pat McAfee
Where?
Ian Rapoport
The spot. Like, where would he force his way to it?
Boston Connor
He ain't going to Pittsburgh. We got our guy.
Darius Butler
Who's that?
Boston Connor
Bill Howard.
Pat McAfee
Here we go. Howard. Here we go. Will Howard's a Steeler now.
Ty Schmidt
Here we go.
Pat McAfee
He was being comped to Ben Roethlisberger. I was at least.
Ian Rapoport
Who made that call?
Pat McAfee
Tony? I did. He did that weeks ago.
Ian Rapoport
Just you?
Pat McAfee
Yep. Yeah.
Ian Rapoport
Okay.
Pat McAfee
He's. He's. He's published. Yeah. This guy's a. I just want to.
Ian Rapoport
Make sure you own AP vote on island by yourself.
Boston Connor
With all due respect to Seven.
Ian Rapoport
Okay.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Because Seven has the nicest house we've ever seen. Yeah.
Boston Connor
And nicest. Nicest army arm I've ever seen.
Darius Butler
What else? Nicest. What?
Pat McAfee
He's. He was great quarterback in Pittsburgh. They loved his ass. Yeah. How about when he came out on that stage? Big night out. That place went crazy for him.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's awesome, too. And there were some things he did while he was playing that make him an incredible podcaster right now. Like, he's a very good podcaster. While he was playing, he was a great talker. Like, a great talker, but sometimes he would say things that people would take and run with and Say all the time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But he was a good talker, you know, because he was like just.
I
And I don't know if you know this, Pat, but when you're a player and you sometimes say things that are like way too honest and controversial. Teams don't always like that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Teams, media obviously blow it up. I mean, it becomes a big deal. Especially in Pittsburgh, you know, Especially in Pittsburgh. So like that quality that he had then that maybe wasn't best for that. Great. For now, like he is. He's a good podcaster.
Ty Schmidt
He is.
Pat McAfee
He's a good talker. Yeah. And he is beloved over there. And if Will Howard has that career here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, what a time to be alive.
Darius Butler
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
Will Hard. We saw him in negative 20.
Boston Connor
Yeah, we did.
Pat McAfee
Is he the. He's QB1 right now. Aaron Rodgers is no longer QB1 in Pittsburgh Steelers fans eyes.
Boston Connor
If I had to take a guess Today, on April 28th, I would assume Mace Dog still starts the season if Aaron does not come. But you know Will's going to be lurking. He's going to be right there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Rap sheet though. I believe it was you who said on the draft coverage that one of the Rooneys was doing like some sort of media podcast or something.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
And he basically intimated like, hey, we think the Rogers thing is, is going to get done. Is there any update there? Because you just kind of alluded to like, hey, if Rogers doesn't go to Pittsburgh, like from everything we've heard through the draft weekend, it sounds like that is closer to being a done deal than it was a couple weeks ago. Am I wrong in reading that or isn't that kind of what you said?
I
No, no, I sort of took it the same. No, meaning you're not wrong. Like it's from what our Rooney sounds like he was like, I think we're getting closer to a decision. We are confident that Rodgers is coming. I believe was was the way he phrased it. So I, they, you know, they think Rogers is coming. I think Rogers is going to be member of the Steelers. You guys think everyone. I think everyone in the world thinks.
Darius Butler
That except you guys.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. You guys. This.
Ian Rapoport
I don't know its own decision.
Boston Connor
Open.
Pat McAfee
I'm open to everything attached.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, that's nothing.
I
Yeah, I was trying to remember the exact. No, the only time I've ever thought that maybe he might not be coming was on your show when you were like sort of. You were sort of like, well, obviously you're gonna play. And he was like, hey, you know, retirement's a positive. And I was like, okay. But got that new dog, a polo.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. All right, we gotta go. Hard outcome. So many things to talk about, such a little time. Hopefully we'll see you again this. This week. You did great on the draft coverage, brother.
I
Appreciate you. It was. It was wild too. You guys did great too.
Pat McAfee
I. You didn't see it. Yeah, you're the best, ladies and gentlemen. Rap. Thank you.

Happening all around us and we're incredibly lucky that we get to talk about it every single day. Last week we were at the draft over there in Green Bay and I'd like to say hip hip hooray to Green Bay. What a place. It was awesome. They showed up and showed out. What do you say? It was almost a bay with how much it rained and they still chose to stay. It was a place okay with a lot of. There was a lot of people there all weekend. That rainy ass day, cold day, there was a bunch of people there. Then on the third day it became beautiful once again. They showed up throughout the entirety of it. I think even the Mr. Irrelevant pick got a pretty big pop from the crowd. I like the fact that they had a bunch of non NFL ers kind of cut promos. Saw Healwani cut one for the Buffalo Bills. I saw Jimmy Uso do one. I saw Chelsea Green, former United States champion. She lost to the United States championship, I believe Friday night she gave a pick out. Dustin Poirier gave a pick out. And Seth Freakin'seth freakin Rollins did a pick for the Chicago Bears in Green Bay. And I'll tell you what, the pizzazz on Seth freakin Rollins, it was a phenomenal piece of work, good piece of business. Great draft pick for the Chicago Bears and I think Seth freakin Rollins is feeling the same way as a lot of Chicago Bears fans. Maybe big Ben Johnson's brain is going to bring them back to prominence. Zito. Whenever you watch Seth freakin Rollins do this and then you see Sham Sharania throw a nice opening pitch for the Cubs, you got to be feeling good about where Chicago is and how Chicago is going. I feel really good actually. Getting offensive weapons is great. Crazy because usually it's always like some people we've never heard of but like Ben Johnson's brain. And it's going to be absolutely amazing to see what it does this year. Oh, I love that. I love that. Ben Johnson's brain in that off. Think about Ben Johnson out there. He's acting like he's Jared Goff, Sam, Caleb Williams. What do we need? Offensive line. Boom. Free agency. We're spending all the money up here. We're trading, we're paying everybody up here. Let's give this guy a chance now. Let's build this team to really go on a run. What if the Chicago Bears are back? Ty Schmidt, you said at the draft, what if they win Super Bowl? This is the same conversation every single year. What if Seth freakin Rollins in his promo to announce that draft pick is the thing that propels them this year differently than years past?
Ty Schmidt
It's certainly possible.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
First and foremost, Seth freaking. I mean, just knocking it out of the park as a pack. I mean, just great healing, good heat for the crowd. I mean, he's, he's a maestro. The guy understands it. So that was awesome. That moment was really sweet.
Pat McAfee
I think he would have got a pop if he would have let them say he's Seth freaking Rollins because he does the. He's a revolutionary, he's a visionary. He's Seth. And then the crowd says freaking Rollins. Yeah, he did it at the end of this. And I think he would have got freaking. A lot of wrestling fans were out there.
Darius Butler
Oh, yes.
Pat McAfee
At our. I think there's a lot of wrestling fans in Green Bay. There was a lot of wrestling fans behind our thing. A lot of eating during the shows and during the break.
Ty Schmidt
There was a fuck Gunther chant during the draft.
Pat McAfee
I think there was a lot of wrestling fans. I think he could have got him to say it, which would have been sick for him. Yeah, that would have been an awesome video. He said it, they said it. But I think the draft had some entertaining times out there legitimately and the Bears might be all the way back. The talks with tables here at boss Connor at Ty Schmidt, 1/2 of the Hammer Cowboys AP toe 9 year NFL vet Darius Day Ball. Good to see you. D bucks to you. Great work on the draft night, brother.
Ian Rapoport
Appreciate you too.
Pat McAfee
The way you're working the film, we had good film. Shout out to ESPN for that film. Right. Shout out to Tone for ripping that film. Shout to everybody in the back. Putting that up and especially with the lower thirds and everything like that. But I feel like we did showcase a lot of these young guys.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, it was good. And you know, we spent the proper amount of time on each prospect. Wasn't necessarily about the storylines of the draft, it was about the prospect. It was about the team picking them. And I think we spoke, you know, I think most of them, we were like, hey, like this pick. Love this pick. You know, we had some questions, you know, especially in Atlanta, traded back into the first round, what they gave up still like the pick overall. And that's what the draft's about now for all the different franchises to be excited about their team, to be excited about what their team is doing, trying to build a future winner. So yeah, I always love the draft and then being able to sit up there with Mike McCarthy, you know, just hear his stories and how he views it, how he sees different, different players fitting with their teams. Maybe wide decision, decision was made or not made. That's always awesome. Obviously at Bill last year, but then having Mike this year and then Shraggs on the team as well was awesome. Crowd was. They showed up.
Pat McAfee
The crowd was awesome.
Ian Rapoport
They had a lot of juice, you know, throughout that whole.
Pat McAfee
I'm a shirtless kid behind this. Yeah, he had to be. He had to be freezing on.
Darius Butler
On shoulders.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, on shoulders in overalls. What a time. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen is the all time leading tackler for the Green Bay Packers. A man that got to go home in many different ways alongside his 12 year old son Hendricks. He's a college football national champion, a Super bowl champion and a Rider cup winner. Ladies and gentlemen, AJ Hawk. Great draft in Green Bay.
J
I thought the whole thing, I thought Green Bay absolutely showed up. I couldn't believe when you turn on the last day and it's still jam packed there. Like that's. Yeah, sometimes it wouldn't be. You would think it might not be the most fun, especially like Friday to stand outside when it's 35 degrees and rainy. But it still seems like what 150,000 people show up there in that park parking lot.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, because we were there so we understand what they're doing. Like there is some stuff to go do on the outside and there is some things. But you're still standing on parking lot for three and a half four hours last day drinking so much booze, sixth round. So much beer being consumed out there. Such. I bet you there was obviously people went multiple days and they made an entire thing. I assume there's going to be people that do this every year that might travel with the NFL draft. You know, like next year is in Pittsburgh. I'm going to assume that Pittsburgh's going to do well just because what we saw happen in Nashville, obviously massive. What we saw in Detroit, obviously massive. What we saw in Green Bay, obviously massive. I think those are football towns. I think you can consider that football places. I think Pittsburgh will show up in a big way and I think the backdrops will be righteous, you know, if they set them up in the right spots. The draft has become a full on phenomenon. 13.6 million viewers that topped you know, like the NBA Finals or something like that.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, of course.
Pat McAfee
The draft.
Ian Rapoport
What did Rob say about, I guess, speeding it up?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he wanted to give like five minutes and then a two minute extending card or seven minutes and two minute extending card. And you could only use it once throughout the entire draft. I assume everybody will only use it in the first round. I don't know if those later rounds you have a two minute need or a necessity to extra. Think it maybe. Maybe you're waiting for a trade to happen. I think that wouldn't be a bad idea. Add a little drama.
Boston Connor
One a day.
Pat McAfee
I think one a day.
Boston Connor
When he said, yeah, one per round or one per round. One a day.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. Just. But you got to assume that people are going to use that two minutes. Yeah. So that's got to go down to five minutes. That can't be at seven minutes because it might end up going the other way. It might end up being longer, you know, because so many two minute things are being put in. I appreciate it, though, that it feels like he understands it. We're allowed to keep this thing rolling because a lot of big businesses, they want the show to be long. Why do they want the show longer? D bucks.
Ian Rapoport
Advertising.
Pat McAfee
More advertising. Okay. Just like if the season goes to 18 games for everybody instead of 17 games, they got what, three more primetime games they can sell. So what? Oh, advertising or licensing for other people to sell advertising, that number is going to be a massive number. So everybody assumes that shows want to stay long. AJ Want to stay long. Want to stay long. But if your show is long and it sucks and the number's low, you're going to make less money than if you were to shorten it a little bit and make it a great show and then your numbers higher. You know, it's just how you decide to do the business. Do you want to create quality stuff here or do you want us to just kind of be a marathon, drag out people? I think he wants to make it entertaining. I think he wants to make it a good show. I think he wants to make it a positive night. That's what I got from both him and how he's treated it over the last few years, but also how he talks about it to us. And there'll be times, you know, where I'm asked for my opinion on something, and I obviously respect and appreciate the hell out of that opportunity to do as such. But it's like, I think they know that this draft is a. This is a big deal.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And if you, if you haven't been yet. I think you. You won't fully understand how big of a deal it is until you go to it. Yeah, it's hard to explain. Like, well, who's there? I don't know everybody, like, but what team?
J
It feels like super bowl week. It honestly feels a little bit like super bowl spectacle.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Everybody's there. Every advertising's there. Every. Every team is obviously there there. Every team is represented in fans. Every country that is a fan of the thing is there. It's like, it is. It's a full on. It's media day for the Super Bowl. Yeah. Yeah. That is with fans with 200, 000 people being able to come or whatever. Their final number was probably 600 and some thousand or something like that.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I know. The last day or. Yeah, like, I mean, it was Saturday and It was nice, but255,000 people showed up. That was more than any of the previous days. But it's also different because, like, you. You fans are booing each other and stuff like that. But it's. It's like such a communal feeling, like everybody was having a good time. Everyone's kind of on the same page.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it was a football celebration. Exactly.
Ty Schmidt
And you don't really get that as much on like a typical game day or with the Super Bowl. Like, there's a little bit more animosity between teams. Like, there's really none of that. It's just everyone's there and the, the only goal is like, hey, we're going to drink this in and we're going.
Pat McAfee
To have a good time celebrating football.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Everybody wants wins. Like super bowl week.
Boston Connor
It's two teams everywhere.
Darius Butler
Like, draft, draft week. It's, hey, no matter what, we're gonna win today or we're gonna lose so.
Pat McAfee
Bad, we're gonna boo and it's gonna be, yeah, sure, right. I didn't see a lot of that. No. I saw a lot of people get a camera put on them, not have a reaction and then, yeah, we need that. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, it's a good pick. No, I don't know.
Boston Connor
You see day three, the packers guy that was still there, that came out, he was in the green room. Yeah. From Texas. That was awesome.
Pat McAfee
So they said 600,000 total attendance at the Green Bay Packer draft. Where they stay, I have no idea.
Ian Rapoport
Because obviously you're getting all these people that's coming in these football cities that will most likely never get a Super Bowl. Like Pittsburgh won't get a Super Bowl. Green Bay is not getting a Super Bowl. Nashville maybe, but you're bringing this type of event to these cities. But I'm very curious to where all that comfort is. That's why I didn't. I didn't expect, you know, that big of a crowd. Like we had cu. It's like, where the hell would they stay in green, baby.
Pat McAfee
They were.
Ian Rapoport
They were there.
Pat McAfee
There was not a lot of places.
Boston Connor
Rad in Red Roof Inn.
Pat McAfee
Comfort Inn. Right.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Comfort in Sweets. Pretty good spot.
Ian Rapoport
Comfort in was the hot spot.
Pat McAfee
That's.
Ian Rapoport
We were.
Boston Connor
That's where we were at.
Ty Schmidt
Great spot.
J
You could make your own little waffles in the morning.
Pat McAfee
Listen, I was at an Airbnb. Door was open for anybody. Said that numerous beds scattered throughout this place. It was a. Yeah.
Darius Butler
I'm not going to blame Comfort in Sweets for how I sound right now. But what I. Dude, I don't know.
AJ Hawk
How my room at the Comfort in.
Pat McAfee
Was bigger than my room in the Fonton Bleu.
Darius Butler
That's.
Pat McAfee
I'm calling right now.
Ian Rapoport
Two.
Boston Connor
Two couches in there.
Pat McAfee
I would just. I would just like to say that was a wild setup. Whenever we got there because it's small town.
Ian Rapoport
We committed late.
Pat McAfee
Too small. Very late. Too late. And we got too good of a spot for.
Ty Schmidt
We had a great spot.
Pat McAfee
Sh. Hey, NFL. Thank you.
Boston Connor
Great.
J
Thank you.
Pat McAfee
Could have not done that. We would have row of shows.
Boston Connor
How they did it across from the. Was good stage was.
Pat McAfee
They're making it a show. I like that they're making it a show. Need some Cirque du Soleil stuff over a crowd.
Ty Schmidt
It's not a bad idea.
Pat McAfee
Sure. You know, because they got that thing covered. I think so. They got that big ass. You already got a huge stage. Let's.
J
Or like zip lines. You should pay. People should pay extra money to zipline from back where our stage was up and to close to the stage where the NFL guys are.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Because they had that super cam that had that cord already. Whatever that was going from up over our head. Right. Right. All the way to center stage.
Darius Butler
Oh, Pittsburgh.
Pat McAfee
It's like, you can certainly do it. Pittsburgh. From a hill somewhere or from the bridge. You're off a bridge, coming down through there.
Boston Connor
My dad said, I don't know where we're gonna put 2,000 people at.
Pat McAfee
2,000.
Boston Connor
2,000.
Darius Butler
We're not going to talk about that. Okay. Tony.
Pat McAfee
Coach, you need to figure out where 200,000 people. I told him.
Boston Connor
I said, we'll figure it out. Ain't no thing.
Pat McAfee
I think there's A nice spot there on the river. Anyways, let's pivot away from the NFL draft, which had a great weekend. Let's talk about the NBA playoffs. I'll tell you what, there's some shenanigans going on a little bit. There's some questionable calls going on. There's reviews from ceiling cams. What I think happening. Yes, now in the NBA. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, a man who played 13 seasons in the NBA, co host of the Knuckleheads podcast, and now an ESPN analyst, Quentin Richardson.
Biz Nasty
How you doing going on, fellas? I'm good, I'm good.
Pat McAfee
Good to see you. The NBA playoffs is doing great, I would say. A lot of stars playing a lot of primetime television. Tyrese Halliburton and the Pacers. Don't look now. Ha ha. Real deal. Okay. Sucks. What happened to Dame. Nobody likes that at all. Obviously in sports, injuries happen, but what was this? Is there a camera in the roof of arenas? How do. And is this always been a thing? Obviously I'm referring to what LeBron James swatted Anthony Edwards hand ball out of bounds. Look at the time. 9.5 seconds left. 114, 113. This had been a great back and forth game. Lakers lost, it to be clear. They got tired, I think. Not a single substitution in a second. This one, this thing popped up out of nowhere on my tv. Is this happening all the time? And how often are calls changed, not only overturned, but then two free throws are given, especially with the 9 1/2 seconds left or 10 seconds left in the game?
Biz Nasty
Well, I mean, this has been the update of the, of the review call that they came in that they put into play. Now you can update, you can retroactively go, go back and call a file or take a file away when they go to do the review. So I think that was the result of that. As far as that camera being up in the ceiling, man, that's part of the evolution of technology and everything that's going on in these arenas. I definitely never saw that view during, during my time plan. But I mean, we've seen it come. We've seen all type of different angles and camera views come into play as we, as we go on. So here we go. One of them.
Pat McAfee
Everybody talks about LeBron James getting calls. Okay. He talked about it on our show. He's like, if you go look it up, I'm actually bottom five in amount of calls. And then I think somebody did. And maybe he's not bottom five. Sure, but it's like close, you know, it's like.
Ian Rapoport
I believe it, bro.
Pat McAfee
I believe him too. Yeah, whatever. I believe him too. I don't think he gets enough calls, but that's like against him with 10.7 seconds left. Wild move obviously for us to all watch. This Anthony Edwards guy is the guy though, huh? We gotta. This is the future here of the NBA. He turned it on. He's unbelievable to watch. And are the Lakers obviously done after having to play the entire second half with no substitutions?
Biz Nasty
I mean, first, when you're talking about Ant man, he's absolutely the real deal.
Ian Rapoport
He.
Biz Nasty
He's must see tv. I mean, the thing I like about him is that not only is he not backing down, I mean you saw different possessions where he was like pushing and trying to be physical with LeBron. He knows LeBron is stronger than him, but that was just him just trying to like this play here where you just see like this is. That's a blatant two hand push and then a run up and Chuck and like that's him saying, I'm here, I want the smoke. I'm not running from it. I know you who you are, but I don't care. I'm trying to show everybody who I am. And like you got to appreciate the way this kid is going out there and competing and then going on this stage. And it's basically he's the feature for his team and he's up against two features. When they got LeBron and Luca, you know, that's like 1A, 1B. So it's like he gets the chance to go out here and try and knock out greatness and he sees in that moment okay.
Pat McAfee
I love watching him. I think he's electrifying. I assume the new ownership up there is Paul pumped that he's on their team and he's still very, very young, but they're doing things up there and I think the old school Timberwolves fans are coming out and howling for good. Congrats to Ant. Yeah, watching him body up LeBron, that was sweet.
Ian Rapoport
Sick, that was. We talk about dogs like we. That's the big biggest comment you give somebody in football, I think in basketball as well, when you're a dog. Is there anybody I know he gets a lot of MJ comparisons. I see a little bit of Dwyane Wade, him as well. Anybody that he reminds you of, number one. Number two, do you think the Wolves have enough to. To make a run at it when the whole thing.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, my, my first comparison, I mean, when I first found out about him, d Wade was the one telling me about it because D. Wade's college coach, Tom Crane coached Ant in, in college. So that was when I first even knew who heard about who Ant was when, when D. Wade was telling me about him. So that was my first comp for him. But I mean, to me he separates himself from either of those MJ or D. Wade with his three point shooting ability, man, he made over threes this year. It wasn't but a handful of guys that's ever done that. And I mean, he really is shooting the ball at a high clip and I think that's the biggest difference between him and those other two guys. But once he starts slashing to the hole, that's where all the similarities and all of the things about D. Wade and LeBron, I mean D. Wade and MJ come into play because when he, when he hits that launch pad, he definitely feel or the D Wave vibe in different ways. And we seeing him put everything together and he's the star. In a series where you got LeBron James and Luka Donkic, he's been the biggest star in the series and that says a lot.
Pat McAfee
It's awesome. Whenever they start crossing, you could see whenever, like the elite guys are definitely going to make a shot. You know, like very rarely are they going to miss after cooking somebody. They want the highlight, you know, because they want the highlight to remain. Because if you miss shot, obviously not going to be able to run it. Like there was a couple times, obviously Ant did it here in these highlights, Luka would be at the top and the ball would start going in between his legs, back and forth, and then he would start shaking a little bit and it's like anytime he pulled that up, it was, it was 100% chance it was going in. It feels like that method of them playing the entire second half is one that's going to be talked about with the Lakers. Is that, is that normal? How's that, how, how's this affect them, that they're going to pull their.
Biz Nasty
You look at this stat right here, saying that that was the first time a team has ever done that. I didn't know that that was a stat. I literally didn't know that till they said it. And obviously like you said, it's kind of blown up over, over the past day or so or whatever. But yeah, I mean, when you, when you think about it like that and you look at it and you see LeBron didn't have any points in the fourth, you see Luca was looking kind of gassed. I mean, Maybe they were, maybe they weren't. No one ever knows. But I mean, I'm sure that the players will be asked that and they'll say they were fine. Because we, you know, us as players, we want to play all the minutes. Now sometimes we could be a detriment to ourselves just wanting to be out there and maybe we have gotten tired. But I mean, to see this stat right here, that was eyebrow raising to me. I didn't know that was a real stat and I didn't know it had ever, it had never happened before.
Pat McAfee
Shout out to the boys. Just doing it. Shout out. Sitting down every time out, knowing that this, this is their only chance to breathe and then going right back out there while the other team is getting a breather. You know, it's not just that you got to go the length of time, it's that the person you're going against is certainly getting a breather at different times. So they're coming back fresher and they're just rotating on you and you're just having to keep up. 40 years old, LeBron James, second half, playoff game, no subs. I mean, good luck. JJ Redick. JJ Redick probably wanted a coach to do this at one point. Point, like if this is how the game's going to be, just leave all the starters in and now we see how it'll end up working out. JJ Is a brand new coach. They've obviously had success. We shall see. Speaking of success, Pacers, tell me about them, huh? They're a real deal.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, I mean, listen, listen, you, this, this, this playoffs in particular, man, just the physicality, the little chippiness of it, the back and forth, not only in the paces in the buck series, but across the whole playoffs. But I mean, when you talk about this series, series, man, Indiana has been game, they've been game from the start. You love they, they, they, they've met whatever physicality, whatever chirpiness has gone on. Everything has been game back and forth. I love Tyrese Halliburton right after the game, being a class act, coming out and speaking and, and sending prayers up for Dame, you know, saying, how did they compete? But you never want to see things like this happen. I love everything about it, man. The, the, you know, congratulations to you guys down there in Indianapolis. Y'all got. And Hallie Burton is clearly a star, but I think Miles Turner is big time. He doesn't credit to me. I love Miles Turner, what he's doing out there.
Pat McAfee
He was protecting the rim last night and wrecking it a Little bit. He'll knock down a three two out of nowhere. So, Miles Turner, go ahead, A.J.
J
Yeah, Q. Staying in the east, obviously. The Cavs are up 3 0, trying to close out the heat tonight. I guess. I know Boston Connor, he doesn't think the Cavs can compete with his Boston Celtics. But how do you feel about different.
Pat McAfee
Tone this morning, A.J. i'll tell you.
Biz Nasty
Oh, okay, good.
J
I look forward to hearing a down, you know, solemn Connor about these Celtics. But what do you feel about this Cavs team and how they're coming together?
Biz Nasty
I like it, man. I like everything they've done. And I'm. I'm along the lines of what Donovan Mitchell himself has even said. He was like, if it wasn't me being on his team, I would need to see us do it. And that's where I'm at.
Pat McAfee
I don't.
Biz Nasty
I don't think they're incapable of beating Boston, but I still have Boston to win the east and win the. Win the championship right now in my book. But. But I don't think that it's impossible for the Cavs to do it, but they really have to be clicking on all cylinders, and I think Donovan Mitchell has to be the best player in the series if they're going to do that.
Pat McAfee
I love the thought of Conor not having as much belief in the Celtics.
Darius Butler
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Pat McAfee
This morning. H, you should have heard it, man. Obviously, he has a little, you know, a little gargle horse. A little. He's a horse. He's horse.
Biz Nasty
The magic got him nervous right now. The magic got.
Pat McAfee
Is it the magic?
Darius Butler
It's not the magic. Even though the magic are very good. And they're tough, gritty bunch.
Quentin Richardson
They're young.
Darius Butler
Yeah, they're going to be great. Franz Wagner, Paulo Bankero, they're great. And they're rough, which I can respect. The Celtics haven't been 100% okay. Drew Holiday has been out the last two games. Tatum was out game two. You kind of worry about them being able to hit their stride if they're not playing, you know, together.
Pat McAfee
It gets you emotional. I think it gets me worked up how good you thought the Celtics team was.
Darius Butler
I was thinking about yesterday and my hope. My voice is like this one from the red roof in whatever the hell it is. And also yelling at my tv, you know, yesterday was tough, but. Q, Rich, you think they can still go on a run even though they haven't all played together throughout this series?
Biz Nasty
Absolutely, man. I think that, that, that's a sign to show that, you know, they, like you said, they haven't been in full strength. And when you say that they've missed Jason Tatum, the, the one of the top guys on the team, Drew Holiday's missed two games when Pork Zingas was out. I mean they have, they have a deep team and they've been able to step up and fill those gaps. Now you don't want that to be the case moving on into the next series and beyond. You don't want them to continue to have to fill in for guys. You will hope that these guys, the little knickknacks, they get healthy and they're able to be out there. Because if they're at that full compliment, I don't see anybody being to beat them, man, being able to beat them. I think they, I think they're going to be strong enough to withstand whatever they got. And you see they have different guys step up in different moments, have big games, although Tatum is always the constant. But I mean they have a deep roster and you can't say enough about old man Al Horford. Man, he's out there like, like guarding perimeter guys, moving his feet and standing in front of guys, blocking shots at the rim, being physical and then bringing, you know, trying to get rough and be an enforcement. So for his guys out there, you gotta, you gotta take your hat off.
Quentin Richardson
The Al Horford out there, five blocks.
Pat McAfee
I believe he's like the first player.
Darius Butler
Ever was 38 and older with five block or second player with five blocks or more.
Pat McAfee
Legend. Just a legend. Staple of the playoffs, it feels like. Yeah, when do I see him playoffs? When Horford comes in. Oh, it's Al Horford season. He's really Garner, seemingly always there. Ty has a question for you. Q. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Q. Rich, going back to the Bucks, we've heard none non stop. I mean obviously the Dame injury is, is killer, but we've heard non stop over the last couple years with Giannis, like hey, he's, he's going to New York, he's going to Miami. Kind of wants to be anywhere but Milwaukee. Obviously the whole, you know, him and, and Dame thing hasn't really worked out. I think the way they anticipated to this series isn't over. But what, what happens next for the Bucks? Like do you think we're going to see a much different team come next year? Especially if the Pacers do kind of take care of business here in the first round?
Biz Nasty
Yeah, I think you probably see some change. That's just the way the NBA works. As far as far as Giannis, I don't think they'll ever want to leave to let go of him. I think he'll have to, like, force his way out or demand a trade to leave. But I don't think the management would be willing to just part ways or just trade him willingly. I think that'll be a situation where he would have to have that conversation and really talk to them and let them know that's what he wants to do. But if he was, if you mentioned the Knicks or Miami, I mean, if he was to do that, now would probably be. This summer would probably be the best time, if ever. I mean, you look at Miami with Jimmy leaving, it's wide open for them to welcome a superstar like Giannis. And obviously if New York would go absolutely bonkers if they had a chance to get, get the, get Giannis there. And I mean, he would, he would absolutely tip the scales depending on what would have to happen for him to get there. But I mean, just picturing him with any variation of Jalen Brunson and Kat Anthony Towns is, is. That's, that's, that's a championship contender in my book.
Pat McAfee
The Pacers are up in the series and up in the game, and when they go to break, all they're talking about is Giannis because it's hard not to with the way Giannis plays and what he's able to do. What an absolute specimen. Specimen. I mean, just so strong. Like everything. His, his strides are like free throw length. Yeah, it's unbelievable to watch him get through. And then they talk about some of his shooting and everything like that. It's like. Feels like he's only getting better too, which is what it's been like since day one with him. He needs to come to Pacers. He's come to Indiana. Pacers tip scales. Come on down here.
Ian Rapoport
I think Q got a good beat on it. He. He would be great. I mean, he said Nick Knicks as well, but I'll just stick with you.
Darius Butler
I mean, what about the hero?
Ian Rapoport
Greek freak. Greek free.
Darius Butler
Yeah, that would be crazy sweet.
Biz Nasty
That would be bananas.
Pat McAfee
A Rod needs to make the play. Alex Rodriguez needs to call the play, get the money out, make the play, make the trade.
Darius Butler
Send Gobert.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. There's a guy still playing right now that is gonna have to lead his team after his teammate gets injured this playoffs. Tone has a question for you. Q. Yeah.
Boston Connor
K and Steph did. He had 36 in Game 3 against the Rockets, which is huge because no other starter had more than 10. Leads them to the game three win. Now they're up 2, 1. Do you think Steph can still get it done without, Without Jimmy, if Jimmy's out the rest of the series? Depending on what happens?
Biz Nasty
I, I think so, man. I think he just showed us that, man. This last game, the, the thing that was most impressive to me about Steph in his last game was that obviously he makes shots all the time. We've seen him make a million dollars, different type of shots in a million ways. But to me, the physicality that he was faced with, the way they were hounding him, chasing him, holding him, grabbing, and the way that he was being guarded by guys that were bigger than him, Thompson, Brooks, and then when he did have a guy his size, Fred Van Vliet is a pit bull certified. He is a pit bull. So, like, when you being guarded and doubled at every turn, to play through all of that and still find his way, that was the most impressive, aggressive thing, because we know how he has to run around without the ball and look at the physicality he's taking. He was being guarded probably as tough as he's been guarded in some years right now. And this is an older step, and I was more impressed with him being able to battle through all of that and still find a way to make shots, find those openings and just be out there and be able to be like, Like Jimmy said, Batman for that.
Pat McAfee
Team, he would have to carry them, right? I mean, that's the. He would, he would have to go on an epic run here for the warriors to win this 100%.
Biz Nasty
I think he, I think he has go. Go off. I'd be surprised if, if Jimmy doesn't play this next game, that'll let me. I mean, just that he was out that last game let me know that he's really injured. He's not hurt right now, because if he was hurt, he would be out there. And we all know in sports, it's a difference between hurt and injured. Somebody's injured, that mean you can't go. And so, like, I, I, I, I expect him to probably be back this next game. But, I mean, the, the, the warriors, they got a lot of veterans out there, man. They had got that stepped up and made plays. And I mean, Draymond, his, his numbers didn't look crazy, but his, his impact on the game was tremendous. He was everywhere. Defensively, I'm talking about everywhere. And the energy he brought, the physicality and the demeanor, you know, he always has that demeanor in that edge. He was, he was truly impactful in that game. And the numbers don't Even represent it halfway at all.
Pat McAfee
When Steph is hitting just like turnaround jumpers, feels like everybody else is able to do their part. You got to be scared of the Golden State Warriors. No doubt they'll do a heat check from half court just in the middle of the game. I like, I want that Steph Curry back. You know, that's the.
Quentin Richardson
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And it's basically impossible, I guess because the whole world knows that he's going to be able to do that. So that's why they bump him so hard. That's why his defense so hard, his stamina. You know we talk about Travis Hunter, we talk about Travis Hunter being able to play offense and defense. Obviously a wide receiver and corner. That's a lot of running. Steph seemingly just runs the entire time on defense. He's always chasing whoever. Yeah. And then whenever he's on offense, he's just running like, I don't want to say just routes, but basically he's just running like fake routes to try to get open, try to find a pick, try to find some space. And when he gets the ball, somebody's on top of him and he runs again. It's like he's non stop the entire time.
Ian Rapoport
So stressful.
Biz Nasty
And you could, you could tell, you could tell that he may has the. If you're guarding him, your job is the face guard. They showed a couple plays like there was action going on over here on the other side of the court. Thompson, Jabari Smith, whoever it was, was completely back turned. No way can tell what's happened. I'm face guarding him. I'm two hands. Like no, no, don't even care what's going on over there. They like that's the type of defense that's being demanded to be played on him. So for him to continue to, to, to just find ways to do this, it's yo on a physicality standpoint, like it's, it's, it's beyond impressive.
Darius Butler
Yeah. And you know, Udoka was that coach of the Celtics when the warriors and stuff beat the Celtics in was that 20, 22. So I mean he already has his number.
Pat McAfee
Well, his number is if every shot I take is going to fall. And how does he not get tired? I don't know how he doesn't get tired. And his shot gets better throughout the game. Like. Yeah.
Biz Nasty
His condition is out of this world. His conditioning is on another planet. Because when you look at the whole total of miles ran and all that, it gets spooky. Like his conditioning is crazy and he's.
Pat McAfee
Doing Four arena shots before the game even starts from the tunnel, you know, so that's energy. I mean, he is. This dude's awesome. You know, he is. It's been cool to kind of watch him. How old is he?
Boston Connor
30?
Biz Nasty
35? 37.
Ty Schmidt
Damn.
Pat McAfee
37 years old.
Boston Connor
37. Yeah.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, that. That's like.
Biz Nasty
He's like 21. He looks like he's 20.
Pat McAfee
He's my age. What?
Ian Rapoport
Just tied Kobe for most 35. Five games in the playoffs. You know, I'm a big, big Steph guy, Mount Rushmore guy. To me, what he does. Obviously, everybody talks about his shooting, but his ball handling, his conditioning, obviously. And then in the playoffs, sneaky. Good rebounder, too. He'll. He'll grab six or seven boards in the big, big games. I'm a huge Steph guy.
Pat McAfee
All right, before we let you go, there is a question that needs to be asked. D Butt.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, I know. We had, you know, obviously NFL draft this weekend, bunch of big playoff games, so I don't know how much you on X. It's a big, big, important question. And I know you're a philosophical guy. 100 dudes versus silverback gorilla. Who comes out with the win and what would be the plan of attack?
Biz Nasty
I'm going with. I'm going with the 100 dudes today from Chicago.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Biz Nasty
In the city of Chicago. We rolling. We gonna figure it out. It's a hundred. The one we. I like them odds. It's just. It's just one silverback. We going. We going. Come on now. We from the crib. We going to figure something out. Make that work.
Ian Rapoport
Okay, now what. What happened? After we see what happened to the first, let's say five or seven dudes, you know, 10, maybe the front line. Who will be those frontliners?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. There has to be a second wave at some point. Who is going to. You. You think there's enough there? You think there's enough that are going to rush?
Biz Nasty
If it's. If. If it's 100 of them, we gonna. We gonna work it out, man. You know what I'm saying? They said it's a fight. They didn't say fair. They didn't say what we could grab or what we could hit with or what we could do anything with. I didn't hear any rules of this, so we good?
Pat McAfee
I think it's. I think it's hands. I don't think you could shoot.
Darius Butler
No guns.
Pat McAfee
I don't think maybe a stick. I don't know if. Because they could get a gorilla.
J
Could Give you a baseball bat. You got a baseball bat?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Good luck. No, it's not octagon.
Pat McAfee
It's an octagon.
Biz Nasty
No.
Ian Rapoport
We need space. We need space. We need space.
Pat McAfee
We need a breather. We need a breather sometimes. We need a medic. Medical department at some parts. We need to figure this thing out. Us first. The girl. The gorilla is so strong.
Ty Schmidt
So strong.
Pat McAfee
You see, Pretty fast.
J
They're pretty fast too.
Pat McAfee
Especially when they're pissed.
Biz Nasty
When you see the octagon. I don't know about those eyes. Tasmania Devil. Terence. I know.
Pat McAfee
That was a great conversation this weekend. Imagine 20 sumo wrestlers though, just going in there like the rest. Wave. I don't know if that they're better off or worse off.
Ty Schmidt
They can probably spook a couple people. The first guy that goes in, the gorilla, rips both his arms off.
Pat McAfee
With the hands. Yeah. Cuz those, they're super humans.
Ty Schmidt
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Like the way they operate. And when they get pissed on the Internet, videos that I've seen, I've never got to see one in real life, thank God. But I assume it would be quite a shame. When they get pissed, they go real fast and they get real loud and it's like a bellowing sound. So you got to make sure you got 100 people that you know whenever that happens. The first time, not even a little. You need to prepare for that moment. You're saying you need training and we need the right group of people.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, I'm with that. Yeah. The right group of people is key.
Ian Rapoport
We need some crash up.
Pat McAfee
What about training?
Biz Nasty
I don't know if you could train for that. I mean maybe you can, but I mean I think you just need some, some. You need some crazy dudes.
Pat McAfee
We need a team meeting or something. Don't we, don't we need a team meeting?
Ian Rapoport
Gotta have a plan.
Pat McAfee
Gotta have some sort of plan. There has to be. Has to be some sort. All right, here's the deal. We need 10 good men. Yeah. Because you guys, you see, you're the first putter in a, in a scramble. We need to see the line here. What does this particular silverback gorilla lack? What is it? Right. Weak points. U10 are all sacrifice. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Give them math crack maybe.
Pat McAfee
Okay, we need 10 good men. Once we figure that out, we'll figure out everything else. I think there's a chance out there.
Darius Butler
Get those first 10 highest.
Ian Rapoport
I like us. I like our.
Pat McAfee
I don't know though, those. Anytime you see one, it's like, like.
Darius Butler
Yeah, look at the forearms.
Pat McAfee
I got to get tired Nope, nope.
Ian Rapoport
They got to get.
Pat McAfee
You saw Steph Curry on the. On the court. He's got his. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. He's a superhuman. This thing's a superhuman.
Ian Rapoport
They got it. Look, we. We ruled this world the hard way back in the day.
Pat McAfee
That's because we got opposable thumbs.
Darius Butler
That's right.
Pat McAfee
That's what they said. So think about that. Think. So is it better than us at everything is what you're saying?
Boston Connor
Thing can't be fighting wise.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, they got to be half a week physically.
Pat McAfee
Math, peripheral, probably maybe.
Quentin Richardson
Math.
Boston Connor
Math.
Darius Butler
Yeah, math. Chess.
Pat McAfee
All right, we're done with this.
Biz Nasty
You gotta overwhelm them with the numbers. Gotta overwhelm them with the numbers.
Ian Rapoport
Got to.
Pat McAfee
Oh, you're saying we're showing one disguising, a little faint. Yeah.
Darius Butler
25 each limb.
Pat McAfee
You think we're doing one of those?
Biz Nasty
There you go. There you go. I'm with that. I like those 25. Ease them, everybody just. You can't have dudes like 5P people copping out halfway when we run. All 25. Gotta go.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So this is a one, two, three, go situation.
Biz Nasty
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And you just gotta hope that the mouth doesn't go to your limb.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
So you got a one in four chance here to get a good, solid attack.
Darius Butler
So I go 20, 20, 20, 20 on the head. 20 on each limb.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Smart. Getting ahead might be difficult.
Biz Nasty
Your math is math and the math is math.
Pat McAfee
And now I still think there's a chance.
Boston Connor
Yeah, for sure.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Who's angry it on? I don't know.
Darius Butler
I'm taking the gorilla, but I'm just.
Pat McAfee
All right, who's winning it all, Jew?
Biz Nasty
I still got Boston right now, man. I know OKC is looking crazy, but until some. Some different happens, I still. I'm still rolling with Tatum in the. In the Celtics right now. I gotta see the rest of the way. But, hey, listen, even. Even out the West, I. I'm still. I'm still got a little like the Minnesota Timberwolves and raised my eyebrows. But if the Clippers could get past the Nuggets, I'm interested to see if Kawhi stays healthy, what they continue to do because they scary to me. They scary with Kawhi being like how he is right now.
Pat McAfee
A lot of interesting storylines coming out of the Clippers Nuggets. A lot of them. Oh, yeah. I mean, it feels like there's a lot of drama. I guess anytime you fire a coach a week and a half before the playoffs or whatever, there's going to be conversations about every decision in every game. Is there a chance that this Clippers team is just a very good basketball team? It's not that the Nuggets aren't playing their best ball or whatever. Kill.
Biz Nasty
Oh no, it's absolutely that. The Clippers are a great team.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Biz Nasty
They're coached by a great coach in Tyloo and they got Jeff Van Gundy as an assistant who's doing an amazing job. And yeah, that, that. I mean, to me, in my opinion, I see what the. I see what Joker is able to do. Joker is dominant and he can, he can win some games on his own. But to me, once they fired their coach, they, they, the, the organization was out on these playoffs. They weren't. They was just. They wanted to go the direction they wanted to go as far as firing Michael Malone. But these playoffs was just okay, we a roll of dice, maybe Joker could get us somewhere or take us there. But like we don't really. We're not vested like that. Not that big of a deal. Because if you fire your coach, you can't be thinking you're about to go for a championship.
Pat McAfee
And GM as you enter into the playoffs with that guy on your team who throws a great alley oop over the weekend to get a win.
Biz Nasty
Shout out. AG. That. That was big time. AG.
Pat McAfee
That was brilliant. You know, I saw earlier in the season, LeBron James tipped in a Luca miss against the Indiana Pacers. And it was like at the last second, very, very close. Here we go, around the rim. This watching it live, you thought to yourself, okay, what matters? Like how far through the rim does it have to get? Like in soccer it has to be full ball. Other sports it just has to be partial. So when does it consider a point and then his hand being on it doesn't matter anymore. Do you know the explanation of that? Does it have to be through the rim? I don't. I don't.
Biz Nasty
I know when I saw it in live action, I thought it was good because the lights didn't come on and the ball was basically through the rim. So I thought it was. I thought it was good. But when I was watching it, like how you saying right there, you saying that. All I could think about was my, my former coach Dan Van Gundy going crazy box out. Like you just didn't like this. You just watching you just. Cause that's what was happening. The shot went up. It was like at the end of the game, you kind of. Sometimes that happens and you saw Powell and Harden were kind of standing there. They didn't watch the shot. You not even thinking it's going to be time for anything else to happen. And Harden kind of reacted late, but by the time he reacted ag already on the rim. It's a bucket. But if you watch this was. Look everybody. Jamal like Norman Powell. You guys are supposed to be on the inside boxing out. And I could hear Stan Van Gundy blowing a gasket. Blowing a gasket.
Pat McAfee
What a. What a finish to a game. And then obviously take the victory lap as you should. I love that the Clippers are a team because I like that Ballmer spent all that money on a team. And I like that they're healthy. Right. I like that they're healthy. And if we get Kawhi in the playoffs, I think everybody would be pumped about that. Let alone adding James Harden. I mean he was must watch television three years back back four years back. Now they're in the playoffs. Rolling. All right. It's beautiful time for basketball. We appreciate the hell out of you, Quentin. You've been crushing it.
Biz Nasty
Yes, sir. Anytime, fellas.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, Quentin Richardson.
Ian Rapoport
That's the only 22 series.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Everything else is 31 or 4. 040 happened already.
Ian Rapoport
Yep.
Darius Butler
Pending tonight with the Rockets Warriors.
J
Lakers should have won last night, obviously.
Pat McAfee
What did you just say?
Ian Rapoport
Just say the NBA I grew up on David Stern would never allow this.
Pat McAfee
Allow first round. Three one.
Ian Rapoport
Sweet. I mean sweeps. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Series would have been over because they were five games.
Darius Butler
No, two two in the first round. Come on.
Pat McAfee
This is.
Darius Butler
This has been happening forever.
Ian Rapoport
We got some good matchups. Lakers would not be down 3:1. I tell you that much. We would have never saw that.
Pat McAfee
John Morant. John Morant getting injured just wasn't good at all for that series. Not that OKC isn't dominating. That's how they've been all year. That's why everybody thinks everybody should talk about them a little bit more. They go 4 0. Obviously they get a little bit of a break, a little bit of a rest. Especially for the Clippers Nuggets in which they are waiting upon and probably going to go a little deep into this thing. Timberwolves, Lakers. That one feels like it's about over. You know. Hell of a run with this J.J. redick one. Go ahead.
Darius Butler
Well, that's the thing. The T Wolves, Lakers and Pistons. Knicks like. I mean, we're not.
Pat McAfee
What happened at Pistons. Knicks. Yeah. We got absolutely screwed. The Pistons is we is who Evan Fox is talking talking about there. Allegedly the refs came out and said yeah. Yeah, we did screw them over. Yeah. There's a reason that people from Detroit use the mantra, Detroit versus Everybody. And it's right here you're gonna see.
Quentin Richardson
We get the rebound.
Pat McAfee
Boom. Foul. Nope. They don't call it.
Quentin Richardson
Game over.
Pat McAfee
Pissed. The dream. And then pool report comes out and says, yeah, you know what? That was a foul. You know, as a fan, I'm done with the pool report. I don't care if it was on my side. I don't want to hear, because it just makes me more angry that we didn't get this call, that we didn't win this game, that the series isn't two to two and we have a chance in this thing now it's three to one. We're screwed. How come LeBron James gets turned over. Exactly. And this one can't get turned over. And they're saying it is supposed to be a call. Whatever. We didn't call, so it should be turned over. I don't think I understand now if I'm a Knicks fan. Sorry about it. Yeah, you know, that's. I agree. That's not. You want us to call the fouls, too? Okay, we'll do that. I guess.
AJ Hawk
Big bad pistols begging for a foul call.
Pat McAfee
You really hate to see it. It was. They said it was business.
Ty Schmidt
Coach Biggerstaff burned his challenge in the.
Pat McAfee
First quarter, so couldn't challenge it or anything like that. I don't know if that's bad.
Quentin Richardson
There we go.
Pat McAfee
20 in Detroit. Back to Madison Square Garden. Wrap it up at home. For the first time since 1999, the. The Knicks haven't won a series at home. That game was actually against the Pacers. Reggie Miller went 3 for 18. Okay, all right. You're saying not everybody remembers that Reggie Miller history with the Knicks, because obviously the. You know, we're going to put up four buckets in like, 10 seconds here and change everybody's lives real quick. I appreciate that. Bruce also said this morning, the Detroit Pistons, tough basketball now they're mad about a call at the end. Okay, Bruce. Bruce actually said, while everybody on TV has said that the Pistons got screwed by the refs, Bruce said that if the refs are on the Knicks side, they would have won by 30 points every single game. And I'm like, we literally just had a pool report say we lost the game because of the refs. It made no sense at all. They're eating the whistle all game long, which is fine.
Ian Rapoport
That's NBA playoff basketball. But at the end of the game.
Pat McAfee
You can't be Begging for a foul when your entire team strategy not begging for you hack and just maul Jalen Brunson. I didn't say that was a foul. The refs literally came out.
Ian Rapoport
Malik Beasley should be playing right tackle.
Pat McAfee
For the Lions the way he's moving on these screens.
Ty Schmidt
He's got great, great footwork.
Pat McAfee
Driving those feet moving like crazy. Pistons are a tough football. New York versus Detroit. Who's going to be tougher in any sport, in any fight and anything in life, it's Detroit every single time. Classic New Yorker behind they they are.
Biz Nasty
More physical, just not talented enough yet.
Pat McAfee
Well, they should have won that game. That's what the refs said.
Darius Butler
Hey, Jalen Brunson got got hurt again too.
Pat McAfee
Well, Jalen Brunson has a season ending injury every single game and then comes back. It makes absolutely no he's so good. He's breaking records through he's very fourth quarter. With that being said, Kate Cunningham needs to make that shot. So I won't blame the rest for this one. Okay, interesting comes around at the end. I like the old Detroit New York Heat there in life. He said as well.
Darius Butler
Best part is whoever wins the series gets to play the Celtics.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Darius Butler
So I enjoy it. Enjoy it.
Pat McAfee
Now that'd be a nice second round. Hockey is happening and hockey is obviously majestic. We'll be joined here in a matter of moments by the number one hockey podcast co host. A man who fought off nine Irish gypsies in the parking lot. That's right. 10v1aman. What's that?
Ian Rapoport
10V1.
Pat McAfee
Bingo. Now we'll ask him about 100v1v1. Sure. Because he's been close to this situation in the past. Also the feeling mentally, you know, as you have to step back into the fight as more on the way, you know, what would, what would the reaction be in that particular situation? Here's a man who has done the research for us. He's obviously an NHL analyst on tnt. He's done fantastic this season. Been a joy to watch. Also like that this weekend we had two buttons loose. Love that move. I'm profesh but also very comfortable. This move I fancy on a regular basis. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Biz Nasty. Paul Visinet. The boys. How you doing, brother?
Quentin Richardson
Great to see you.
Pat McAfee
Great to see you as well. Thank you for joining us. You've been crushing it this season, man. You're obviously spitting. Chiclet's always going to be great. But you on TNT has become spectacular, brother. I hope you know that.
Quentin Richardson
We got an awesome team there. Man, it's been fun. Liam McHugh, Anson Carter. We kind of got a bit of a rotating chair as well. We got obviously Henrik Lundquist there. We had Rick Bonus head coach since Rick Talkett's left. But it's been an amazing ride, an amazing weekend of hockey. And it just seems like every game there's just a crazier and crazier storyline as things progress here. We're not even. We're halfway through the first round and it's been absolute madness.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, playoff hockey is electrifying every year, let alone whenever they're. Is a season of storylines which. Let's talk about the biggest one throughout the entirety, mostly on the outside. I don't know how the hockey world was viewing it, but from the national perspective, 30,000 foot view. Alexander Ovechkin in the Washington Capitals. Not only does he get the scoring record in the history of the NHL, but their team's a wagon once again. We saw that son of a bitch Tom Wilson this weekend. Lay somebody out. Classic Tom Wilson. Which would then lay lead bang. That's the freight train. He was on the show last week. Then that leads directly to a goal for the Washington Capitals. Feels like that is Capitals hockey. Are they rolling and can they win this whole thing?
Quentin Richardson
They very much could. That's a series changing hit right there. Carrier in the neutral zone. He had his head down. Some people complaining about it being a dirty hit and a headshot. No, he went right through the body here. And as you see, everybody's a little confused. Carrier's trying to get off the ice. He's scrambling and. And chicken. A beautiful punt pack. I called it a Pat McAfee punt play.
Pat McAfee
Thank you.
Quentin Richardson
When he sent that, I said that on the broadcast. And Duhame picks it up in Matheson's feet and then they end up tying it up and the rest is history. So it went from probably being a 22 series at this point to now being 31 for the Washington capital. So they're just feeding off all that momentum from the regular season and the OV goal chase and even going back to last offseason like they made playoffs last year, but they did so with one of the worst goal differentials in the league. They didn't really provide a lot of offense before this year and then become one of the highest scoring teams in the league among obviously ovi chasing that goal chase and. And then doing it. It's remarkable. 39 years old for him to get over 40 goals and do it the way that he did.
Pat McAfee
It.
Quentin Richardson
And not only that, but having the pressure of like all the cameras and all the media surrounding him in order to get it done. Like, like he. Some people thought at his age and maybe with the deterioration of how old he was getting that he would have to back into this record. Nah, man. He broke his leg this year, played just over 60 games and scored over 40 goals. At 39 years old, it's remarkable. He's the greatest goal scorer to ever exist. I don't think any better anybody ever thought that they were going to say that considering what Wayne Gretzky did when he played. So remarkable and just a perfect catalyst leading into playoffs in what's been all the electrifying entertainment.
Pat McAfee
I loved the Wayne O and OVI moments afterwards too. And how Wayne, basically because it turned out to also be a celebration of Wayne Gretzky's greatness. I think, I think a lot of people that maybe didn't know or didn't fully understand were either taught or reminded about Wayne Gretzky and why this record was one that nobody thought would ever be caught. And the fact that OVI was able to do it. You're talking about being hurt and then. No, not backdooring his way in. He didn't even want an empty netter. He said, I don't want to be on the ice for whenever they pull the goalie. It's like he was confident he was going to get there and we had a chance to chat with him, the guy, I don't know if you saw it, he introduced everybody on the team before we started the conversation. Feels like he is just like literally a lad of the lads in the locker room too. Perfect NHL representative, I think. Right?
Quentin Richardson
Unbelievable. The guy's a complete farm Adam animal. Like he drinks pop on the bench, eating Subway, still doesn't care about his diet, eats whatever. Ultimate team guy. And, and I'm sure most people have seen these viral clips of him in the hallway and when the guys come out, he's amping them up before they take warm up. And Jacob Trickman was one of those off season signings that they made that has propelled this team. And he wore that headband. So he started singing the bands make them dance. Next thing you know they got Juicy J in the hallway. So know just the ultimate competitor and I couldn't be happier for the guy. And, and also an incredible ambassador for the league. And you, you also mentioned it like, like Wayne getting to be a part of that handoff. Like Wayne is like the ultimate team guy and just an incredible guy. To be around. And I'm so blessed that I've been getting gotten to know him through my course of my job at tnt. And that's everything that he's about. And when he passed Gordie Howe, how that's exactly the way that Gordie Howe handed it off to him. Including Gordie Howe's wife giving Janet a present and a gift to also commemorate her. And then Janet followed up by giving Ovi's wife a gift as well on the ice. So that's really what the hockey community is about. So the fact that they were able to stop the game and have that in game ceremony and for it to go as good as it did, it was just remarkable. And it. It says everything that needs to be said about the league and what it's about.
Pat McAfee
Hell yeah. Hockey did it right. I think you did it right. That old wife exchanging of gifts. I did not know that. This is my first time learning that hockey, as you're saying. And I'm like, hockey so different, man. It's just like such a perfect culture. The playoffs are electrifying. Go ahead, A.J.
J
So I want to get back to Tom Wilson quick because there's a. There's a guy named Kyle Vanden Bosch that used to play for the Lions, Titans, and this guy played dn. And I talking to offensive players that were on my team, they were always aware of where this guy was. He played harder than anybody and was going to take your head off and probably take it home with him if he could after the game. Like, what kind of presence does Tom Wilson have on the other team? Like you said, like a series changing hit that he had. Like, when you have a guy like that on your team, how does the other team view it? Is everybody always thinking, hey, man, eyes up. You always have to know if this dude is on the ice.
Quentin Richardson
You nailed it. At a certain point when you come into the league, guys like that, it's like, like, hey, boys, heads up. This guy, he. He's going to run you, run you through the end wall. But at this point, everybody's aware of who Tom Wilson is and what he brings to the lineup. So especially for defensemen where he's forechecking game in, game out, you got to help your partner out. And most the guys on the opposing bench, the minute he steps on the ice are telling and yelling at the guys like, heads up. This freight train is coming through. And what's amazing, look at him.
Pat McAfee
He has to feel so cool coming on the ice. And the other team being like, yo, yo. Big dogs on the ice right now. Heads up, heads up. He has to feel like a. Like an absolute dog out there as soon as he gets on. He fought on the bench. Then he. Yeah, this weekend.
Quentin Richardson
Oh, he. That was game three. He ended up fighting on the bench, where he was getting a little bit off the rails, where Carberry had to kind of put him back in his cage to a certain degree. But you just saw the video of him taunting the Montreal Canadiens fans, because obviously they've been giving him an earful, not only from that fight on the bench, but obviously that hit. And I'll remind people at home, Zadan Ochara, when the Boston Bruins were playing in Montreal, he laid a hit on Max Pacioretti, and he hit like, the. Kind of like the Mooring, and it knocked Pac out. And they try to file a police report and put Chara in prison. I think they're going to want Tom Wilson in solitary confinement after that hit that he delivered. But AJ Going back to your comment, like, absolutely. He's obviously made such a name for himself now where everybody is well aware when he's on the ice and guys are giving each other the heads up. But he's also not just a mutant out there. Like, he can make plays. He can put the puck in the back of the net. So it makes him like this. This triple quad threat where he's a unicorn. And when he signed his contract, people were yelling, overpayment, overpayment. This guy's just a goon. Those people look like fools. This. Every GM in the league would beg to have a guy like that on their squad. And it's. It's a remarkable what he's done with his career.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we as Pittsburgh Penguins fans have seen it, you know, since the beginning. So handsome, too. Just so, so handsome, so tough, so good at hockey. It's just like, well, get this guy off. You suspend them, Kick him off tour. Kick him off the tour. Not allowed to be there. Then you pair him up with OV and everything they've had going on over there. That's why the Caps and Pens had such a good rivalry for so long. A lot of change at the Penguins. We'll talk about that with Biz on the other side, as we'll remain on digital YouTube, ESPN Plus, Disney plus and TikTok Live. We're off of ESPN until tomorrow. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change their life. Sports Center's on in five. Goodbye. Busy still. You look good. We're still alive. All right.
Quentin Richardson
Well, I just wanted to make sure I was getting enough light on my nose here on my toucan Sam, to be clear.
Pat McAfee
For the first 10 minutes you were talking shadow right over your face with the hat that was there whenever you.
Quentin Richardson
Well, the reason I got it on.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I know Connor has question about that, actually.
Darius Butler
Yeah, yeah, Biz, I do have a question about that. And you know, the Maple Leafs are finally looking good in game three. I think everybody thought, oh, this is the game. The Maple Leafs lose this series kind of turns. Nope, they get it done. I believe they're up 31 now. Do you really think this is the year? Do you think this is it? Are they going to be able to go on a run or do you see them kind of dying slowly, per usual?
Quentin Richardson
What the hell's going on with your voice?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I smoke like.
Darius Butler
I smoke like three packs of cigarettes this weekend. It was a great NFL draft for the Patriots, so I'm not doing too well right now.
Quentin Richardson
Well, either way, Leafs are looking good. Good boys. They're up three one. I don't want anyone planting a seed of doubt. They did lose game four in overtime, but power plays clicking the. The core five looks good. What do you mean, oh? What do you mean, oh?
Pat McAfee
What is it? It's 3:1. They lost the fourth game.
Quentin Richardson
Shut up.
Boston Connor
The battle of Ottawa.
Ty Schmidt
Did you feel it?
Biz Nasty
Oh, no.
Darius Butler
Can you feel it, Biz?
Quentin Richardson
The battle of Ontario. And the Leafs are going to take it down. I said, gentlemen, sweep five, which is going to happen at home tomorrow night.
Darius Butler
Will it?
Quentin Richardson
And they look good. It was normally the core four, right? John Tavares, Nylander, Marner and Matthews. But Matthew Nyes has been added to the core five. This kid is an absolute beast. Young kid, he hammers guys. He can skate well and obviously put the puck in the back of the net. And we got the goaltending. We're getting production from the back end. It could be the year.
Pat McAfee
Really? Wow.
Quentin Richardson
The Leafs break the curse. It's been since 1967. It's much like all you baseball fans out there. This is like Boston. The Red Sox for all those years couldn't win it. They'd always choke in playoffs. This is the Leafs year, Pat. Believe it.
Pat McAfee
Okay, for you, I will believe. And you said this is like the Boston Red Sox on the field and on the ice. Aren't the Maple Leafs like the Dallas Cowboys in Canada? Is that right?
Quentin Richardson
A lot of that would be a fair assessment to this point. Yeah. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Like people that don't know hockey as well, that are watching Right now I don't think they understand that the Toronto Maple Leafs in Canada are like. Right.
Quentin Richardson
It's like it's, it's, it's the mecca of the hockey world. People would argue that maybe the Montreal Canadiens is that, but from an overall Canadian perspective, absolutely. I would say that Toronto is the mecca of it. And you know, just like in Dallas, there's a much added pressure that comes with being a Toronto Maple Leaf. The media can get very negative and nasty. But this is a group that brought. It brought in chief Craig Berube as a head coach who's a proven not only player, but retired, won a Stanley cup as a head coach with the St. Louis Blues, turn that team and organization around in order to hoist their first ever Stanley Cup. And I believe this is a different group that can ignore the outside noise and get the job done with the superstars that they have a lot of.
Pat McAfee
Chatter about the Maple Leafs up there in Canada. So you got to be built fort. You know, just like you got to be built to play down in Dallas for Jerry. Now let's go down to Florida dbuts. Got a question for.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, down in Florida. Battle of Florida. People down here in America called, you know, Florida the, the Mecca of the hockey world. Give me a little bit of insight on that battle. Yeah, yeah, there you go. Still seeing right here Stan Lee. Yeah. A little insight on what's going on with the battle of Florida between Tampa in the Florida Panthers. I've seen some big hits. Obviously Barkey got, got knocked out in one game and then Chucky came back hit Gensler knocked the out of him. Looks like some bad blood there, which I absolutely love. What's going on in the series. You still have my Panthers coming out and can the Panthers go on a run to win it back to back?
Quentin Richardson
So as far as the gameplay is concerned, I would say it's been a little bit underwhelming. But things definitely heated up in game two after that hit that Hagel ended up. I mean this isn't boring, but the, the gameplay has been. But, but after game two, yeah, that Hagel hit on Barkov. Now people deemed it very dirty. He did get a game suspension. But a lot of people don't realize like Barkov is such a good 200 foot centerman. So I think on the play right here, Hagel thinks that Barkov knocks the puck off of McDonough Stick and that's why he delivers the hit. That's why you see Hegel being like what's up? Why'd you Call that. So you see right there, it looked like Barkov lifted up McDonough stick and knocked it away, which would deem it a legal hit. But he didn't touch it, so it's interference. And based on the gravity of how hard he hit him and the fact that it was a bit of a blindside, they gave him a game. Well, fast forward a game three. Obviously things got out of hand where the score was about 4, 5, 1 at the time. Tampa's up, they put the empty netter in. And after Jake Gensel delivers that pass over to his teammate, Matthew Tkachuk changes his angle, goes in and drills him about a second late. Matthew Tkachuk's not going to get suspended for it. I don't think the hit was as hard, but clearly Matthew Tkachuk knew what he was doing. Eye for an eye. I expect this series to amplify way more after that happened in game three. And now you even got the coaches going at it in the media. Paul Maurice and John Cooper.
Pat McAfee
We knew Coach Mount would get in there. Yeah, he's not scared to joust a little bit if need be. But in these series is especially in hockey, and I know basketball the same way like we saw Ant Lebron pushing each other or whatever. You're playing the same people here, you know, and it's the highest of stakes in playoff. Hockey is the fastest of hockey. I mean, just like in football, preseason has a speed. Regular season has a speed, playoffs has a speed. Hockey very much like that. And also all the teams that are in the playoffs, very fast teams. So whenever you talk about high speed, high pace, there's a lot of action, there's a lot of collisions, there's a lot of potential beefs that could brew in a sport that allows fighting. So I couldn't imagine waiting for two days knowing that, okay, I gotta either get back, I gotta get back or I gotta get back coming. That's why hockey's different, man. That's why hockey's different.
Quentin Richardson
So a little advice to you young hockey players out there. Don't admire your past the way that Jake Gensle was here, but clearly Matthew Tkachuk knows what he was doing. And this is a late hit. And afterward by the bench, Kachuk's trolling him, saying, yeah, keep your head up. And, yeah, that has to happen. But he knew what he was doing. This was retribution for the hit on Barkov. And it's game on now, two, one series. And things should get very, very interesting in Florida in game four.
Pat McAfee
How about. How about him saying, I'm gonna, I'm gonna teach this. Kill us around here.
Quentin Richardson
This is, this is America's hockey family, the Kachuks. Keith Walt Tkachuk, as they call him, should be a Hall of Famer. Brady Tkachuk, Matthew's brother, plays in Ottawa, who's involved in the Battle of Ontario. And obviously that's Matthew, Stanley cup champion last year. Like I. I deem I think he knows what he was doing. I would deem it a little bit of a dirty hit, but I would take both of those guys on my team every day of the week, twice on Sundays. They are absolute gamers, savages. And that's what you need in the Stanley cup playoffs.
Pat McAfee
Chuck being back for the past Panthers is obviously great in news, a tone setter, you know, four nations. We all watched it.
Darius Butler
Oh, man, we all watched it.
Ian Rapoport
Laid on the line for his country.
Pat McAfee
Yes, he did. National anthem, you're on. Boo. Okay. Tournament was bullshit. All right. We're three fights in nine seconds.
Darius Butler
Got hurt till the playoffs.
Pat McAfee
That's how this is going to go. Got hurt in the All Star four nations thing all the way through the playoffs because of how much he cared. That was a smashing success. I don't know if we've talked to you since then. Maybe. I don't know if we have. I love that. Are you guys going to be able to do that every year here?
Quentin Richardson
It was just a, like a precursor for what's about to come. The Olympics is next year. I thought it was perfect.
Pat McAfee
It.
Quentin Richardson
It was. It was crazy to see how emotionally invested all the guys got considering it was this one off tournament. But the minute that game happened and those scraps went down, everybody was glued to their television. 14 million people, I believe, overall watched the finals in which Canada took home. But it is just a precursor for what we're going to see at the Olympics with more nations involved. Credit to the league and its players for putting this on, because everybody's hockey interest was. Was garnered so much more. And this is the first scrap. And the guy on the right, mind you, is Brendan Hagel, the guy from Tampa who delivered that hit on Sasha Barkov. So there was even a little bit more history than that hit that happened in the Battle of Florida. So he held his own against a bigger Matthew Kach. But once again, man, credit these guys for putting that show on for hockey fans. And hockey's on a heater. And I can't wait for the Olympics because it's going to be electric in Italy.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if you Heard Sidney Crosby's playing for America, so. Yeah.
Darius Butler
And over.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if you heard it.
Quentin Richardson
Happened Solidify you getting them for that event you threw on. I did help with that, did I?
Pat McAfee
Yes, you did. Thank you for that.
Quentin Richardson
So if you steal, there's no way you're stealing our captain, Canada, for the Olympics.
Pat McAfee
Did you hear me try. Did you hear me try to negotiate him on. You hear me try to negotiate him becoming a United States American citizen? Yeah.
Biz Nasty
You need.
Quentin Richardson
You need to stay in your lane, by right. You need to stay in your lane.
Pat McAfee
I guess there's a bunch of rules that say can't happen. We're trying to get Messi on America's side, too, for the next World cup plays here. He lives in Miami. He's been here a long time.
Ian Rapoport
Yep.
Quentin Richardson
You guys just want it all, don't you?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, goddamn right.
Pat McAfee
We would like to win. We would like to win the world, guys, right?
Quentin Richardson
Hoarders, man, I tell you.
Pat McAfee
Well, it'd be great for us. You know, we. We could be a lot louder if we win. You know, like, boy, coming off that, four nations needed. We.
Quentin Richardson
Well, you guys needed a. Humbling is what you needed after that first regulation win at the four Nations. And if you're trying to stir the pot right now, we can do it, buddy.
Pat McAfee
No, no, no.
Quentin Richardson
Hey, hockey is Canada's game. You guys need to shut your holes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but we. We got curling.
Quentin Richardson
High holes.
Pat McAfee
We got curling a few years back. You remember that was a good time when we got curling. Curling. Maddie Hamilton and the boys, they were doing that. Great sport.
Quentin Richardson
Another one of Canadiens games. Yeah.
Ian Rapoport
When's the last time a Canadian. I'm. I'm kind of new to hockey. The Canadian team won the.
Boston Connor
I don't think it's ever happened. Oh, how many Canadians on the Panthers?
Ian Rapoport
It's just a question.
Quentin Richardson
It's a great question. It's been, I think, over 30 years.
Pat McAfee
Since the Montreal Canadiens. LAABS were the last Canadian team to win the Stanley cup, defeating the Los Angeles Kings in 1993. Okay, I'm sorry, Biz, go ahead.
Quentin Richardson
But if you look at all of the playoff rosters of teams in the States who have won the Stanley cup, most of the people on those teams are Canadians. I would say if you put the full list of percentage, I would say it would be about 40 to 45% of Canadian players on those American teams. So I don't know what type of tariffs we're getting charged or we're going to start you for those players. But the reason that America is able to lift the Stanley cup is because of the camp. See, that's what a piece of the Cup.
Pat McAfee
You want a piece of the cup, huh? A little tariff on this, huh? The boys are showing up for you, aren't they?
Quentin Richardson
I ain't good.
Pat McAfee
They're doing good things for your cities, aren't they? They're bringing happiness, joy, huh? We'll take a part of the Cup. I mean, that is how it'll go. What. What are all the countries that make it up? Obviously Canada, Russia, United States of America, most NHL.
Quentin Richardson
Well, currently Russia, they're. They're knocking to be in play. And it's like, listen, I. We don't need to get political here. I understand there's a reason they're currently. Not that. And. And some of the doping that they've done in the past, but not specifically the hockey players, but just the country in general. Notorious.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we watched it.
Quentin Richardson
But it would be a shame if, For. For the fact that it would probably be OV and Malkin's last Olympics if they weren't able to compete. But Germany would be a team. Czech, Slovakia, Sweden, Finland, U. S. Canada. And I don't know who else would be in the mix there. I don't know if they finished the qualifiers. Italy, usually. There's a. There's a few other Scandinavian teams in the mix there, but the, The. The big. The big countries are usually Russia, Sweden, Finland, Canada and U. S, of course, and Slovakia and Czech. Not too far behind.
Pat McAfee
Okay. And if Russians can't play, obviously. Ovechkin's lived in Washington D.C. for how long?
AJ Hawk
Yes.
Darius Butler
He's based 20 plus years.
Pat McAfee
Right. He's already basically a politician influence, too. I. I think there's a chance.
Ty Schmidt
There is.
Pat McAfee
We have, we have an angle there.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Quentin Richardson
I don't think. I don't think Putin's gonna okay that one. And if you might talk in that nonsense, might have the red dot on your forehead. No time.
Pat McAfee
That happens all the time. I think if you read the messages that I read about myself. Anyways, let's move along. Speaking of that particular thing, but in a much less serious way, whenever it comes to a profession. AP Tone has a question for you about change in Pittsburgh.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Biz two time Stanley cup champion back to back for the Pittsburgh Penguins. I believe in 16, 17, Mike Sullivan and the Penguins departed or decided to part ways today. Did you feel like that was necessary? Just like a. Obviously, Mike Sullivan's still a great coach, but, you know, he's been there for so long and the team hasn't done great lately. Do you feel this was necessary?
Quentin Richardson
I feel like it was a situation where I don't think Pittsburgh's going to win anytime soon regardless of having Sydney Crosby in the roster, which is, is obviously depressing to me. I hope that he has an opportunity to play more playoff hockey and hoist another Stanley cup, but also that there's so many coaching vacancies and probably a few teams that need coaches that are a little bit more Stanley cup ready and the simple fact that this guy is going to probably get a massive payday. The New York Rangers need a head coach. I wouldn't be shocked if they threw six to seven million dollars per season at Mike Sullivan. I think the resume speaks for itself. I think it's a little bit crazy to pay a head coach in the National Hockey League that much money. It's not like football. It's not like football, right. Like football, like you can win and lose games a lot by coaching with set plays and you know, how, how it's played hockey. There's only so much structure. Once the shift starts, the shift starts and you know, there's only so many four checks. There's only so many, you know, power play setups. It has a lot to do more with the players on the ice than it does coaching. That's not taken away from the coaches. It just seems a lot of, seems like a lot of money for an NHL head coach and the fact that there's what, eight or nine vacancies current currently, they turn him over like crazy. So I think that the Rangers are going to offer him the bag. He could potentially head back to Boston. He, I believe he's related to Charlie McAvoy. Yeah, to some degree. So maybe that makes a little sense as well. And, and Sweeney and Neely are in a little bit of desperation mode given the fact that Boston had a very, very difficult season, including some tough off season signings. So, so yeah, I, I, I think this makes a lot of sense and I think that he's going to get an absolute bag now.
Pat McAfee
Sullivan McAvoy sweetly neely. Sounds like the time potentially happening. Wonderful thing. Who the pen's gonna hire and are we gonna win the Stanley cup or what's about to happen. I met the gm. What's the name of gm? Kyle.
Quentin Richardson
Kyle Dubas. Kyle Dubas.
Pat McAfee
I am impressed by Kyle Dubas. Obviously. I think he's either younger than me or same age as me. I met him whenever we went back to Pittsburgh. Had a nice trench coat on, had A nice trench coat on. Had a good. I think he had a.
Quentin Richardson
Maybe he's buttoned up a little bit of a scarf.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he looks really good.
Quentin Richardson
Yeah, he's buttoned up.
Pat McAfee
Hands in Pocke. Good handshake. Good conversation. I think.
Quentin Richardson
I think the book's still out on. On Dubus and what he can do with that organization. I think that like. Well, why you say wow? What do you mean? Like what? Like, I don't know, Stanley Cup.
Darius Butler
It seemed like when you said the book's still out, it seemed like the book's out for you. You don't like Dubas.
Quentin Richardson
No, I. Well, you're trying to make it personal. It's not personal. I'm just saying as far as his GM quality.
Pat McAfee
This early into his tenure.
Quentin Richardson
To say this, I feel like the minute I hopped on this thing, you guys have just tried to stir the pot.
Boston Connor
Cuz you've, you've tried trading Sid from the Pens for the last two years.
Pat McAfee
Remember that Sydney Crosby few more years.
Quentin Richardson
Because he's wasting away his final years there. What are you talking about? Sounds like it's the only guy on that team that deserves to hoist another Stanley cup and everybody.
Pat McAfee
Gino don't deserve it. Gino and Latanger don't deserve it.
Quentin Richardson
Well, I think that Gino needs to bring a little bit more to the table if he wants to hoist Stanley Cup. I love Gino. I love Gino too. But he ain't playing at Sid's level right now.
Pat McAfee
Well, Sid's playing at a level that he's very. We have to turn over the team. I believe. Right.
Quentin Richardson
That's what is about to happen, you guys. Pittsburgh doesn't have many prospects in their system. They're going to have to do a complete overhaul. The only positive news, and that's why I said the books fell out on Kyle Dubas before you interrupt me and started stirring the pot is I believe they have $26 million in salary cap space for this offseason. Well, you better get signing contracts and you better find yourself a new head coach.
Pat McAfee
Chase. We got four head coaches. If we wanted from your math, with 6 or 7 million in this entire thing.
Quentin Richardson
Well, they don't count against the cap. You got to spend that on players.
Pat McAfee
How much, how much money is a good player? How much is a. I know Sidney Crosby signed 8.7 million or something like that.
Quentin Richardson
So there, there, there aren't a ton of good available free agents this off season like now because of how, how the league is. Like not a lot of them are even get to that point. Like one that probably sticks out is Mitch Marner hasn't signed yet. He's a Toronto Maple Leaf. Kyle Dubas loves Mitch Marner. He was with him in Toronto. There's a little hostility between the Maple Leafs and Marner based on the fact that they try to trade him at the deadline for Mo Rotten and who was available. And they were willing to part ways with Mitch Marner even though he had 100 point season. He's had a few 99 point season.
Pat McAfee
Chip on his shoulder corner.
Darius Butler
Dubas ain't doing it.
Quentin Richardson
Well, he's doing. As far as Mitch Marner is concerned, he hasn't. Just like the book still out on Dubas as a gm. The book still out on Mitch Marner as far as playoff performance. He's had a great start to this year. Things get harder as you progress through the second and third round. But he's a guy that's going to command probably $14 million on the open market and we got 26. Yeah, but are you gonna, are you gonna bust your nut on one guy or are you gonna spread it around the line?
AJ Hawk
Well, got to bring Hazy back.
Quentin Richardson
We just need, we just had him on the podcast.
Pat McAfee
I love Hayes. I love Hayes. I, I, I was privy to him negotiating his contract right in front of me. He was trying to negotiate an extension, I do believe. Right in front of me. What a beauty that guy is. He was, he got hit in the toe with a Chris Latang shot too. So he was limping his ass around the complex for us. He was so kind, so cool. Everybody was so nice to us over there. I would like to see them get good again. I would like to see them get good again. It's a lot more fun when the Penguins are good. You know, for me, I think, I.
Quentin Richardson
Think it's going to take them at least 2, 3 years to get good again. I'd be shocked if they made playoffs next year. Unless they do like what Washington did in the off season and have a complete home run. As far as free agent signings, if Mitch Marner ends up there and you're paying him 14 million and all of a sudden all you have is 12 left over. Like, it's hard to address other areas. And that's what me makes the, the, the league so good in the NHL is the parody. You only have so much money to spend. There's a hard cap. You can't get around it. And yeah, you need to address a lot of positions, not just having a, a guy who's a 100 point go scorer.
Pat McAfee
Dubas signed a seven year deal.
Quentin Richardson
He signed a big ticket seven times, I believe. Six, six and a half. Maybe close to $7 million for a GM who's never hoisted a Stanley Cup. All right, you guys act, you guys act like I'm hating. It's just like when you get a big ticket like that, there's a lot of pressure that comes with that and he's got to prove it.
Pat McAfee
I think Kyle Dubas will do that.
AJ Hawk
And what about Shanahan? Does he get a pass all the time?
Pat McAfee
Biz?
Quentin Richardson
I think that if they don't go far this year that, that his names came up. Like I like Shani, like he, he, he's also a proven player. Like he's won at a Stanley cup as a player, of course, and he has that experience. So I think he's done a solid job. The issue, the major issue I had with the Toronto Maple Leafs management over the last like five, six years is they, they signed those guys to ridiculous deals when they were restricted. So they just handed over the bags to their core four where once again, you need to snap the money around. And when you're a restricted free agent, you don't have all the leverage you do when you go to free agency when you're not restricted. But they got bent over in negotiations, gave all these young guys all this money who hadn't proved anything in playoffs and that put them behind the eight ball. Well, fast forward to now. They have their contracts, they got their money. Well, time to get the job done.
Pat McAfee
Now it is time. Who's gonna win Stanley cup up?
Quentin Richardson
If you held a gun to my head and you said I had not.
Pat McAfee
That big of a deal but we would like to knife to your throat though we, we would like to know an answer. Though we would like to know an answer.
Quentin Richardson
I like the West. Colorado in the West. After watching that last game, they looked lethal against the stars. But those two teams, them and Dallas could each win the Stanley Cup. Like that's a juggernaut of a first round matchup. And then going to the East, I'm sticking with my Leafs. I know that Florida's got a heck of a wagon there, but I got to go with my Toronto Maple Leaf. So it's going to be a heck of a playoff, boys. And I don't know if you guys have talked much about this Landiscog situation and the fact that he'd, he'd had to sit out for over a thousand days. It been he's the captain of the Colorado Avalanche, and he had a laceration near his knee in playoffs, and then it ended up escalating to the. The point where he needed reconstructive knee surgery. He thought his career was going to be over. He documented the entire rehabilitation process over the last three years, and it had been a mental grind. This is one of the best stories in all of sports right now. And finally, a few nights ago, 140 days, he scores his first goal back in the NHL in playoffs in game four against Dallas. Unbelievable.
Pat McAfee
That's a wonderful story. Yeah, I didn't. Not a lot of people are talking about it at all. Is this the goal right here?
Quentin Richardson
I assume that's the goal right there. And just the amazing energy in the building, the jubilation. And as soon as they pan up to the crowd after this, there's a guy in Atlantis COG jersey right there making out with his girlfriend.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Quentin Richardson
Who has a McKinnon girlfriend, so. Or McKinnon jersey. Excuse me. So, just that the timing of it all, it's such an incredible story, and he's an unbelievable human being, so. So it was just amazing to see an incredible hockey in the story. A story in the hockey world. Excuse me.
Pat McAfee
Hey, thanks for telling that here. I'm appreciative to get that message and that story out. Maybe a team to pull for if you don't have a team in the hunt anymore. Now, for me, Pittsburgh Penguins fan, I'm a pull for anybody until Pittsburgh Penguins are back next year. Oh, yeah. Okay. Because Kyle Dubas. But I like the Capitals a lot. I like the Capitals a lot. Just strictly because OV came on the show. He was so cool.
Quentin Richardson
I've known he was unreal with you guys. He was so, so candid. And I love how he introduced all the boys. And did he have a subway with him?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think so. He held up the bag.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
But, like, I think that was one of those. I don't know if they were forced to do some sort of media with espn, and, like, we were maybe, like, I don't know how it came together, came out. Foss sent me a text, like, ovechkin on the show next week. I'm like, how. Yes, we would love that.
Quentin Richardson
You were very fortunate, Pat. Like, not many people get to see that candid side of Ove. You do get to see it when he's in the tunnel with his teammates and these small glimpses of it. But the fact that you got to be on the PJ with the. With the whole squad, like, that was A. A very cool moment. And like I say every time before I sign off, like, thank you for shining light on. On the wonderful game of hockey. And. And we need that type of tire pumping for sure.
Pat McAfee
Hey, you're doing a great job of it as well. Can't wait to see you guys golfing here in about a month. Seems like Whitney's about a month ahead, ahead of you and everybody else. Guy spinning it. Guy. He's a stick. Stick. I just watched a water shot yet that I've never seen someone do in my entire life. It was unbelievable.
Quentin Richardson
That Wit hit.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he was just golfing with another golfer.
Quentin Richardson
We did the Bob. We did one with the Bob does sports guys.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Yep.
Quentin Richardson
Maybe that's not the clip you saw, but, you know the Bob does guys.
Pat McAfee
Yes. I'm a big fan, obviously, Caesar Salads. Also massive fan of those. I watching you guys collab was cool. That was a really cool collab. I think it was a good group.
Quentin Richardson
One of the best collaborations we've ever done, and we're gonna do something else with those guys. But, yeah, it was. Oh, I never saw this.
Pat McAfee
Was this from yesterday? He was playing yesterday, I think. Boom.
Quentin Richardson
Yeah. Yeah. I met Wit when I played with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and just an unreal guy. So fucking funny. And after our career was over, we. We ended up joining up on the podcast Spitting Chiclets that Rear Admiral Mike Grinnell and. And Wit were already on. And, yeah, we. We kind of rekindled, and it's been an incredible ride. And, you know, we like to kind of get. Do other things outside of just talking hockey. And we started doing these sandbagger golf matches because he's a golf junkie. And when he retired, he got really hooked, and he's basically a scratch golfer. His game has regressed a little bit since he's had. Had three kids. You know, I think we all know when you have kids, your life's pretty much over, or at least your golf game is, unless you're on the tour. But, yeah, we've. We've gotten. We've dipped into the golf world and. And then did a few collaborations with the Bob does guys. So you can check that out on our Spit and Chicklets YouTube channel or. Or check out us smoking them on the Bob does channel.
Pat McAfee
That's great. Plug and worthy Plug. I follow along. Half forward along. I didn't know Whit was as electrifying as he is until, obviously watching the Spit and Chiclets, but I'd followed at Biz Nasty for decades now at this Point. So I appreciate every time you. Come on. We're lucky that you're in the sports space. You guys over there legit. You make hockey a lot better.
Quentin Richardson
Hey, we appreciate you. And if Edmonton makes a run here with McJesus and Draisaitl, you should get him on to talk Edmonton Oilers hockey, because he's a jock sniffer. He used to play there. I think he got booed out of the building. But, you know, since retiring, he's jumped on their bandwagon, so I think they've accepted him back with open arms.
Pat McAfee
Okay, sounds like that is a situation we need to look into and definitely try. You're the man. Ladies and gentlemen, Biz Nasty.
Ian Rapoport
Race the rudders, Race the sails. Race the sails.

They are great for hockey. Spit and Chiclets.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Biz Nasty
Huge.
Pat McAfee
Fantastic even.
J
Look how hockey guys are. They're all that. He comes on. He instantly names everybody that the show with. Like, they're all. They're just. They're programmed like team guys first, always.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And hockey doesn't have a lot of characters outside of the locker room, you know, or the change room, you know, they have two different locker rooms. They keep that shit real tight. Always have. You don't really get to know a lot about the players. You don't really get to know a lot about everything. It's just like we play sport. He has an injury. What's his injury? Upper body. Don't worry about it. We keep it moving. Everybody's hurt. Like, they're just so, like, humble. Don't want to talk. Don't do that. Biz is one of the first people with his Twitter account. You Know, and he started getting very active, and I followed along because obviously I grew up as a hockey fan, as a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, and had a great clap bomb. Great clap. I mean, we're talking deck hockey, or as you. Yups. Call it, ball hockey. I had clapbomb next door neighbor clapbomb that was about, check out Chedd. You know what I mean? And I played goalie every once in a while if I had to, because somebody has to play goalie where none of us are going to have a good time here. Okay? We are not going to be able to compete if nobody plays goalie. Somebody has to fucking play goalie. Okay, I'll play goalie. All right, Sweet. And then actually try, like everybody. Why am I playing goalie in this thing? Loved hockey, street hockey. There's the photo that was put up during big night out of my house. Actually had a piping goal, hockey goal right on the garage. And I would assume that there would be top windows busted there, you know, because sometimes that thing gets a little. A little out of control.
Darius Butler
It's away from you.
Pat McAfee
But I never knew the players, really. You know, you knew the game, you knew the sport, never knew the players. Biz, I think, really started opening up the world to what the hockey guys are like. And hockey culture is, like, from those that are not in it. And it's like, what a culture. Old school, school, still fight. Everybody's got to have a work ethic, you know, it's exhausting.
J
Every old guy they have, every old stud that comes on their show are like, they're the best interviews. The dudes are so honest and just so. Just tough.
Pat McAfee
They're just.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
J
Just like. What do you call it? Soul to the earth. Guys, like, they just. They haven't figured out. They have a lot of awareness, it seems like. And they like to have a good time.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And they all drink. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Have beer with.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we'll all have beer. I mean, ov's having beers immediately after games. Yep. Give me a Coca Cola, please. And walking into the restaurant, Michelob Ultra. Yeah. Walking in double fist. I mean, it's amazing. It's a great culture. And obviously D Butt's team.
Ian Rapoport
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Are the current world champs. Congrats to you, D Butt.
Ian Rapoport
Thank you.
Pat McAfee
Is that the state of hockey tonight? Two games. The battle of Florida continues in Dallas, in Colorado, which is the one that Biz said he looks to inevitably end up winning the West. Let's go back to one half of the Hammer Dime. Cowboys, bubblegum, Beano. I heard you kind of Tingle a little bit back there. Whenever he was talking about Texas hockey.
AJ Hawk
Gumpy, we got shy, kicked four nothing last game.
Boston Connor
Colorado.
AJ Hawk
We're still waiting for our Lord and savior Miro Heiskin and best defenseman possibly in the league to come back from injury, which would help, but we got to win this one tonight to hold home court here before we head back to Colorado.
Pat McAfee
All right, let's watch hockey, let's watch some basketball, and let's watch the Washington Commanders move back to Washington dc. Oh, wow. Yeah. Congratulations. There's been a lot of stories told about this stadium deal over there for the Washington football team, the Washington Commanders, and a Washington team name from back in the day. They had a stadium that was falling apart. Poop pipes were bursting on their own fans. People would pay 75 bucks to go watch the Washington football team lose in a football game where the weather was terrible and spend four hours there. And while they were walking out, poop pipes would burst right on their head. So not only did the team play like shit, but they got drenched and shit on the way out. Then there would be times where teams would be walking out of the tunnel and the barricades that would be holding people up from the stadium area down to the tunnel area would just bust and people's heads would get squashed and maybe next possibly broken. This was a falling apart stadium for a long time, but with the previous owner, nobody wanted to give him money or do business with him. Josh Harris comes in, starts shaking hands. There's going to be a stadium in Virginia. They're going to own everything around it. Now they're headed back to downtown Washington, D.C. the heart of the nation's capital, where I believe they were great whenever they played.
Ty Schmidt
Yes.
Pat McAfee
So congrats to the Washington Commanders. Going back downtown dc, Getting a deal done, and I assume financing for a Washington Commanders team. And if you're a Commander's fan, like, you have to think to yourself, wow, life is so much better. All of a sudden we're liked. All of a sudden we're good. All of a sudden the future looks bright. And all of a sudden we're returning back to our roots whenever we're good at rfk. So congratulations to Commanders fans having a much different life now than they had two years ago before Josh Harris. Magic Johnson, a crew by the Washington team. What a change in culture, AJ What a change in everything.
J
It's a completely different world for this Washington Commanders team. I mean, you talk about Josh Harris comes in by, was this just two years ago that he took over two years ago.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
J
I mean, what the. The progress that they have made. Obviously, Jane Daniels was an unbelievable draft pick, and Dan Quinn hiring him all helps, but the fact that, like, they're getting back to what they were. I think it's all. It's pretty cool with the Capitol, like right through there, through the. The pipe, just like this is Indianapolis.
Pat McAfee
Kind of.
J
Doesn't it view. Is it view downtown through those windows, if you could.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, brother. Whenever that window is open, you can see the sky. But if you're up high enough, you can look through and see the city. And the fact that it's back downtown D.C. i think Washington is a proper name for it, you know, because if they're moved to any of the DMV area, the MV of the area, I think, you know, would you change it to Virginia or change it to the area that you're around? We all know the San fris. San Francisco 49ers are in Santa Clara, but now the Washington Commanders in D.C. with a new stadium that ain't going to have poop pipes burst. Good news. Mason Kinahan put out a tweet. Look at all the things that have happened since Josh Harris has become the owner. Improved fan experience at training camp. You remember what it used to be like. New stadium, naming rights deal worth 7.5 million annually, fees rebuilt. The entire front office in coaching staff. Remember what the last one was drafted. The face of the franchise, Jaden Daniels. We retired Darrell Green's jersey finally. We had the best season since 1991. They made the NFC championship games and spent over $75 million repairing Commander's Field so people don't get poop in a moth. And you just announced new $3 billion stadium at the RFK site. It's like life is good as a Commander's Fan.
Darius Butler
Good run.
Ian Rapoport
Incredible.
Pat McAfee
And it's like if you're guys going through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared, don't show. You might get out. Devil even knows you're there, you're gonna get out of there.
Ian Rapoport
Who's that? Kenny Chesney.
Pat McAfee
I don't know who that was.
Ty Schmidt
Nah, that ain't Chesney.
Ian Rapoport
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I don't know who that was. The messages just keep going. You know, if you think you're in hell, you just gotta get. It was not Bono. I don't know of thing. I'm pretty sure it was not Blonde. You just got to keep going, you know, because at some point you're going to get out of that hell. And congrats to the Commanders fans. Getting out of that hell, seemingly, and having a football team that you can cheer on and be proud to cheer on. You know, there's other teams that are currently going through hell and have been through hell. They're going to look at what's going on in Washington and say, hey, we're one pick away. Don't want ownership change away.
J
There's hope.
Pat McAfee
There's hope everywhere.
Ian Rapoport
Always what you dream of, especially these fans. They were praying, wishing, hoping, God, Dan, sniper to get the fuck out of there. And then this new ownership group comes in and seemingly does everything right. That rendering obviously looks amazing, but drafting Jaden Daniels, knocking that out of the park, Dan Quinn and the whole organization, they've, you know, brought there, like, it, done everything right. This is what you want as a fan. Like the fan experience, too, is probably, I would assume, be top notch. Once they spend all that money and do the things with the new stadium.
Pat McAfee
You could tell whenever a stadium is new, everything about. About it's better.
Biz Nasty
Yeah, everything.
Pat McAfee
Everything about it is better. The seats are better. The food's better. The experience is better. The lines, the bathrooms are better because they figure out human flow over the last 60 years, since the last time this stadium was built or whatever it is. New stadium is nice, Old stadium's tough, tough, tough. But this team, tough as well as flashy. Jaden Daniel's got it all. How about Cliff Kingsbury right in the note. You see that? Stop by.
J
I did see that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Draft a tackle from Penn State. State or whatever, please.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Oregon. Oregon. There it is. They had a little draft day moment there. Here's a piece of paper. It's all my only thoughts. I stuck around. Could have been a head coach. You give me another offensive lineman. Protect Jaden Daniels a little bit. Zoom in. Good camera work.
Darius Butler
Big smiles.
J
So if you don't take him, where do they draw a dong and put it back on Cliff's desk.
Pat McAfee
How many notes did he put down there, too? That's a good question.
Boston Connor
That's a good question.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ian Rapoport
How many?
Pat McAfee
Draft, blah, blah. Draft. Tyler Warren, draft. Like, what if there was 30 of them? Hey, when you get to your desk, you're going to see 50 different letters. Pick the right one. I would like this person to know that I wanted them on the team. You know, that's good news for an offensive coordinator. Shout to Cliff Kingsbury. Shout out to Washington Commanders. Okay. Hunter Renfro signing with the Panthers back. What a signing.
Darius Butler
Love it.
Pat McAfee
He's going to Be good. Bryce Young, I mean, they had a great second half of the season. Feels like they're turning in the right direction. There was a conversation that I saw Tepper have during draft day. He sounds reasonable. How about the Carolina Panthers?
Boston Connor
You talk about hope they had a good draft.
Pat McAfee
You talk about change, you talk about being able to be in a bad spot and then in a good spot in a matter of years. It's like feels like the Carolina Panthers are there right now.
Ian Rapoport
And it always, always, always starts with the quarterback. We saw Bryce Young bounce back and some resilience, get back in there, play some of his best football in the second half of the season. And then you draft, you know, T Mac, which. There was a lot of question marks going into the draft about him, but no question marks about his talent. So getting a big dynamic talent like that to be out there as well, like that Honda, Renfro, you know, let's see if he can get back. It was not a few years ago. He was in the debate for the best, one of the best slot wide receivers in the National Football League. Took a year off. A lot of times guys don't necessarily come back, you know, playing their best ball. But let's see if he can get to it.
Pat McAfee
Hey, what happened on that Sunday morning show?
Ian Rapoport
Which one?
Pat McAfee
What was going on?
Boston Connor
We're not going to talk about that.
Darius Butler
All right.
Boston Connor
We're not going to talk about it.
Pat McAfee
What was he promoting? A book. Part of winning.
Boston Connor
Yeah, he was, but we're not.
Pat McAfee
I think it's probably going to be a good book. It's been here.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, I've read it.
Pat McAfee
We've read through a few. It's good book. It is a good pick.
Darius Butler
A couple things missing.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that brought. That brought up. That was an awkward situation. That was awkward situation. Situations. There was a couple other situations that I don't know how often they happen in interviews like that, you know, like, is that normal?
J
It's a movie. Feels like a movie.
Ian Rapoport
It does feel a little.
Boston Connor
Is that what it feels like?
J
Like a script from a movie that someone would write.
Darius Butler
What kind of movie? Like Pretty Woman?
J
No, I was not thinking that. I've never seen. I don't know what happened.
Pat McAfee
Me neither.
Boston Connor
It's a great movie.
Darius Butler
I'm just joking.
Pat McAfee
I do love that. Acknowledgment was something that got brought up there. Hold on. What about the author?
Biz Nasty
About Bill?
Darius Butler
What's it say?
Boston Connor
There's a ghostwriter.
Pat McAfee
Margaret Heffernan is an entrepreneur, chief executive and author. She was born in Texas, raised in Holland. And educated at Cambridge University. She worked for the BBC and developed interactive multimedia products with Peter Lynch, Tom Peters, Standard and Poor's and a learning company. She has served as a CEO for InfoMation Corporation, Zyne Zone Corporation, and iCast Corporation. Her previous books include Beyond Measure, A Bigger Prize, and Willful blindness. And her TED talks have been seen by more than 12 million people. Okay.
Darius Butler
She.
Pat McAfee
Okay. So was a. Sit down. Sure.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Got it.
Ian Rapoport
Little story behind. Behind the hoodie.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
The Navy.
Ian Rapoport
I know. You know, big, you know, ties to.
Darius Butler
The Navy, but I know. All I know is Bill's earned the right to do whatever the he wants.
Ian Rapoport
Really?
Darius Butler
Greatest coach of all time.
Pat McAfee
This is a different book. Bruce is saying that might be an old copy.
Ian Rapoport
Updated.
Pat McAfee
This is Uncharted.
J
Wait, when did the book come out?
Biz Nasty
Out?
Pat McAfee
Who put this. This was put on the wrong book.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, they put put the wrong jacket on.
Pat McAfee
You're right.
Ty Schmidt
It was good.
Pat McAfee
Does that happen? No.
Ian Rapoport
No.
Ty Schmidt
I think that's. That's some sort of hijink.
Pat McAfee
How often does that happen? What the. Dude, this thing's been sitting here for six months. Three months, whatever it is.
Boston Connor
So it's just a sleeve.
Pat McAfee
It's just a sleeve. Hey, you want just a sleeve? Here's a sleeve.
Darius Butler
Yep, that's what it's gonna look like.
Boston Connor
So that's not.
Pat McAfee
You said you read it. You said you read it.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You were confused.
Boston Connor
You came with me. Books.
Pat McAfee
Bill.
Boston Connor
Bill's book's a little confusing.
Pat McAfee
We think about the future all day, every day. What time do I need to leave the house? What's for breakfast? Can we picnic on a weekend? Should I change jobs? Move house online and off. Offline. The news is mostly speculation.
Ian Rapoport
Sounds just like.
Ty Schmidt
I could see that being.
J
What book is that?
Ian Rapoport
Sounds just like.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Unchartered. This is the introduction.
J
What is that?
Pat McAfee
What's Uncharted?
Boston Connor
It's a good movie.
Pat McAfee
How to navigate the future. Who sent us this book with this back? Who's that?
Boston Connor
Margaret Thatcher.
Pat McAfee
Who?
Ty Schmidt
That's some dirty pool.
Darius Butler
Yeah, it really is.
Pat McAfee
Turns out Margaret Heffernan did not write.
Ty Schmidt
Okay, you were saying? Her previous books. I was saying.
Ian Rapoport
Wow.
Ty Schmidt
Very interesting that Bill would hand select her to write his book.
Pat McAfee
But I can read the back. Sure. Because this is a part of the. That's wild. That is a wild situation. Praise for the Art of winning from those who have already read it.
Ian Rapoport
Thank you.
Pat McAfee
Greatness isn't something you're born with. It's the result of passion, dedication, and hard work. This book shares the valuable lessons about excellence in leadership that Coach Belichick has learned throughout his. His legendary career. Who said it?
J
Lombardi.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Ian Rapoport
Ernie.
Boston Connor
Julius Caesar.
J
Tom Brady.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if there's going to be any Julius Caesar quotes.
Ian Rapoport
Robert Kraft.
Darius Butler
Tom Brady was my guess.
Pat McAfee
Michael Jordan. Wow. How about this one? Coach Belichick brought out the best in me Brady book. All right. His book will do the same for you. Yes, it was Tom Brady. Oh, here's one. Powerful, insightful, and remarkably personal. Bill Belichick's the Art of Winning is a playbook for life. Whether you are a barista, a coach, a parent, or a CEO, this book will give you all the tools you need to be successful. Every leader should read this book and read it now.
Ty Schmidt
That's Lambo shorts.
J
Jordo.
Ian Rapoport
Aaron Rodgers.
Pat McAfee
It's not Jordo. No, it's not Aaron Rodgers.
Boston Connor
Bill Parcell saving.
Pat McAfee
Oh, let's go. It's admiral William H. McCraven. What? McCraven. He's the number one New York Times best selling author of make youe Bed.
Darius Butler
Damn.
Ty Schmidt
Okay.
Boston Connor
It's the first thing you do every day.
Pat McAfee
It's the first decision you gotta make.
Boston Connor
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you what, I'm not good at it.
Darius Butler
I don't do it.
Pat McAfee
That's why I wasn't in the abc. There's a lot of reasons.
Darius Butler
Yeah, what's the point?
Pat McAfee
This is Admiral Will William McCraven. Hook him.
Ty Schmidt
Hook him, baby.
Pat McAfee
Hook them, baby.
Darius Butler
Yeah, hook them, Admiral.
Pat McAfee
Sark's gonna get him.
Boston Connor
Sark's gonna get him.
Pat McAfee
Sark's gonna get him.
Ian Rapoport
I hope so.
Darius Butler
That dog will hunt.
Pat McAfee
Yes, he will.
Ian Rapoport
We'll see.
Pat McAfee
Especially if Admiral William McRaven's coming around. Give him a couple speeches or two. Make your bed.
Boston Connor
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
I bet you whenever he talks, boy, people listen. Thanks for your service, Admiral. Thank you.
Ian Rapoport
Imagine his bed.
Pat McAfee
Absolutely has to have the best made bed.
Ian Rapoport
Perfect.
Pat McAfee
Has to have it. Isn't there some rule in the military.
Ty Schmidt
About dropping a. Yeah, a quarter or something on there?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And it being able to bounce. Gotta make sure you have that thing tight. I'll tell you what, some of these hotels, they're better at tucking in the sheets than others. They're better at making the bed than others. I feel like I'm a strain of hip flexor when I'm trying to get the one off the bottom. Right.
Ty Schmidt
I'm rip some off every single time. And it's a real task.
Pat McAfee
Every once in a while. I'll get the. The one corner I'll go all the way through the middle for some reason, I'll stop because I get lazy. I see that it's open. I'm like, all right, I'll just kick this thing up. And every once in a while it's like, damn. This staff, really, they know how to do it around here.
Ian Rapoport
Probably a bit.
Darius Butler
They read make your bed McRaven.
Pat McAfee
Admiral William McRaven's. Probably the reason why my hip flexors are getting pulled trying to get that lower corner out. One last quote.
AJ Hawk
Okay.
Pat McAfee
This is about the art of winning. Available now for Bill Belichick. Wow.
Biz Nasty
Is it.
J
Is that book?
Pat McAfee
The COVID here is from the book. You know, you can't judge a book by its cover. And I'll tell you what, it has never been more true with this right here, where the COVID is actually for a different book than we got sent. Last quote here from the back of the COVID of the book. So not this book that's here, but the book that is for sale here. Okay? Bill works to be the best at whatever he does. And true to form, he has put his heart and soul into this book. It's a remarkable deep dive into the mind of a champion. Anybody who wants to improve at what they do can learn from its stories and its wisdom.
Ian Rapoport
Sounds like Hulk Hogan.
Boston Connor
DJ that's gotta be Hudson.
Pat McAfee
Hudson. Nick Saban. Coach Nick Saven.
Ty Schmidt
Where's Lambo's excerpt?
Darius Butler
I think Lambo's on.
J
He's got to be on the inside cover.
Pat McAfee
This one is this. Is this. Is this.
Boston Connor
It looks a little thinner.
Ian Rapoport
It's got to be more closer in the back. It looks like.
J
Does he have pictures in his real book?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, yeah.
Boston Connor
Formation.
Pat McAfee
This is the art of winning. Okay. This is hand draw. Here we go. Nope, there is more quotes we gathered. Two since the beginning. Two more. So we got the OG this could be what it could be. Yeah, this could be what it could be. Okay.
Boston Connor
What's that silver circle in the front? Is that the Nobel piece?
Pat McAfee
Tom Brady says Coach Belichick brought out the best in me. His book will do the same.
Darius Butler
Weird, that one.
Ty Schmidt
Move that from the back cover to the front.
Boston Connor
Put Tom on the front.
Pat McAfee
No, no, it was. It was okay.
Ty Schmidt
Fair, too.
Pat McAfee
It was. They changed it to gold, though. From red. Make it pop. A little bit more prestige. Yeah, a little bit more prestige. I will say the blue lettering instead of the gray. Good idea, too.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Across the top it is much better.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's got a little glisten to it. It's. It's almost glistening for winning, you know? That's Bill Belichick's. Legendary career spans nearly half of the NFL's existence. And for the first time in the art of winning, he takes readers deep inside the philosophies that made history. Who's that name, that quote?
Darius Butler
Jim Gray?
Ty Schmidt
Roger Goodell.
Boston Connor
I thought it was gonna be my guess.
Quentin Richardson
Dang.
Pat McAfee
Ding, ding, ding, ding.
Ian Rapoport
Yes.
Boston Connor
It just felt like Raj.
Ian Rapoport
Let's go.
Pat McAfee
All right. The order Wedding Available soon interview was interesting.
Darius Butler
Yeah, I didn't watch.
Ian Rapoport
You watch the whole whole thing?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, somebody ripped it, I think if it was 8:47 or 8:something like that. I did watch it. You did watch?
Boston Connor
I just watched that 20 second clip.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think so.
J
Is that just a little part of it? Did the other. The other parts go well?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, if you watch the whole thing, I think there's more. Good, good, them bad. But it certainly, you know, did a.
J
Good job to promote the book. I mean, it got.
Pat McAfee
Got out there a lot of eyes, that guy.
J
Did a good job interviewing him, honestly. That's kind of a weird situation.
Pat McAfee
Positive. Kept it positive too. Did you watch the whole thing?
J
I. I believe so. If it's eight something, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Because he could have turned, you know, and he didn't. I thought that was a great interview. I thought legitimately, attitude wise, everything, understanding, situation, reality of it all. But yeah, that was interesting. But how often does it happen, you know? Yeah, like how often is there somebody for somebody, you know, like representation, shall we say?
Ian Rapoport
Probably a lot.
Pat McAfee
That's what I'm thinking. I would assume that's what I'm thinking.
Darius Butler
Representation.
Pat McAfee
What? Let's go. Cop back, copper. Yeah, they're attacking.
Ian Rapoport
There we go.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And you, you, you say anything we don't want to talk about. I don't want to say I don't want to talk about it.
Boston Connor
I just want to talk about.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I guess in pro football talk says that there was more that was not left in there, but felt obligated to put one in there because of how often it happened. Whatever the case, if he wins football games in North Carolina, nobody's gonna say a damn thing. Sure, exactly. The art of winning. Available sooner now.
J
Is it out? Do we know is it out yet?
Boston Connor
It's available sooner now.
Ty Schmidt
It could be.
Pat McAfee
It's available soon or now. It's going to be good.
Ian Rapoport
Can you flip through that thing real quick just to make sure? I mean, like thumb before I read that one too.
Boston Connor
Any. Is there chapter headlines, like name of chapters?
Pat McAfee
Oh, there. These pages are right in the middle. Okay. Not normal for a book. Oh, there's a bunch of them scattered.
Ian Rapoport
Throughout C. Like quotes.
Pat McAfee
I don't know.
J
Maybe those are you. You read a whole Bill Belichick book and you read the whole thing and didn't realize that it didn't really sound like Bill or folks.
Ian Rapoport
A lot of time has passed. Bill's a little different than I remember, Right.
Biz Nasty
I guess so.
Pat McAfee
The work you did to get to the decisive moment is the work that will help you carry the day. Just as you adapt to everyday challenges during the regular season, you will also need to adapt to the heightened circumstances and big moments. Smart preparation and smart game plans got you there. Don't stop preparing and game planning and finally fill your trip. Roar.
Darius Butler
May 6th.
Pat McAfee
It's out soon.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I would recommend. I assume it's going to be very motivating.
Boston Connor
Yeah, It's.
Pat McAfee
Greatest coach of all time. Not the greatest interview of all time. No.
Ian Rapoport
Can't be both.
Boston Connor
Never was.
Pat McAfee
It's gonna be hard, coach.
Darius Butler
Gm.
Pat McAfee
All right, A.J. i'm headed off to Kansas City for Monday Night Raw. I'm gonna address the Gunther situation. I think that's. I think I have to.
J
Hey, you know, I mean, Poirier taught you. He taught you what to do.
Pat McAfee
Two hands on alever. Yep. Then I'm going out there. Yeah.
J
Arm up throughout.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
J
Get out.
Pat McAfee
Then bam.
J
Then you get the dominant position.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. He's been suspended. Gunther said. Adam Pierce told me that was the case. Adam Pierce I don't think is going to be there this evening, but he made the suspension, told me that. I appreciate Adam Pierce for doing that, but you know, I have a chance to chit chat tonight. Sure. About my thoughts. You know, this wrestling world is crazy. Steve Austin said in the comments, need to keep your head on a swivel, kid.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Then the Rock said, you need to figure out your own. This is wrestling world. You can't be turning your back to anybody. It's true. Those are two legends telling me, hey, this is on you. This ain't on anybody else. It's like, okay, all right. You'll take that now? You know I will. You listen. That's what you got to do.
Darius Butler
Talk about the art of winning.
Pat McAfee
You listen.
Darius Butler
It's right there.
Pat McAfee
Available May 6, which is Ray Rock Corner.
Boston Connor
Right around the corner.
Pat McAfee
You can pre purchase this. I got it already in this one right here.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah. I'll just read your copy if anybody needs. Actually, no, I will.
J
From Norma. That book from Norma Hatfield.
Pat McAfee
Margaret Heffernan. Uncharted how to Navigate the Future also. Yeah, it is it has been here for three months.
Quentin Richardson
How did that happen?
J
How does that happen?
Darius Butler
It just fit perfectly.
Pat McAfee
Just. Yeah, it's the same. Maybe it's one. Maybe it's one to say, all right, be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change your life. We're in this thing together. We're back tomorrow with a big show. Tomorrow, Friday. I think we're gonna be live in.
Boston Connor
New York, the city.
Pat McAfee
New York, New York. Yeah. Yeah, I believe. Yeah, I believe we're gonna be in New York.
Boston Connor
Not upstate.
Pat McAfee
Not upstate, but Earth's beautiful this time of year.
Boston Connor
It is beautiful.
Pat McAfee
Absolutely. Brandon Bean said, I'm about done with it. I'm about. I'm listening to your guys show right now. Sounds like 2018 again. Remember, you guys wanted Josh Rosen over. Josh Allen. I know you're going to make a show, but then we just scored 30 points in our last game. You guys are bitching about us not getting a wide receiver. That was awesome.
Ty Schmidt
Yes.
Pat McAfee
I love that he did that. He has a relationship, obviously, with those guys. Being very personable person. And I like that he defended himself and his staff. Like, come on, man, let's look at the reality from my perspective here. What if the Bills go on to win after he talks that shit?
Ty Schmidt
Cobb, what am.
Ian Rapoport
I got some good pieces on defense.
Pat McAfee
Yep. They got Josh Allen on offense. It's all that matter. What's going on with James Cook?
Boston Connor
It doesn't seem good.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it doesn't.
Darius Butler
Got Ray Davis.
J
He's not there.
Pat McAfee
Right.
J
Not going to offseason stuff.
Pat McAfee
Stuff.
Boston Connor
No.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. 20 M's, I believe, is what. Yep. What's Saquon getting?
Boston Connor
20. 20.
Darius Butler
He just got even more.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Saquon one. Golfing. Saquon won't golf. Yes, he did. A lot of people talking about him going golfing.
Boston Connor
Not a good decision.
Pat McAfee
Is anybody talking about how good of a golfer he is or are we just talking daddy went golfing?
Ty Schmidt
Just said he went golfing.
Pat McAfee
All right.
Boston Connor
And Saquon said, I go golfing with all the prisoners.
Pat McAfee
I bet he's a stick. I bet he has to be. I bet he's so.
Ian Rapoport
Hit the ball a mile.
Pat McAfee
So athletic. Those legs, quads. He turns that thing. I mean, he gets. Yeah.
Darius Butler
350.
Pat McAfee
Those presidents go, wow. Love to see the look of that most, you know, Commander in Chief talk. I golf with all the presidents that are alive. Okay. My name is Aquan Barkley. Did you see what I did last year?
Ian Rapoport
That's a flex.
Pat McAfee
Really Sorry. You know what's gonna happen? I like golf. The next president probably gonna ask me a golf. Guess what I'm gonna do. We go, I'm gonna golf with President. That's what he said. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
He might have a tee time with Bill Clinton next week. We don't know.
Pat McAfee
We have no idea. There's a chance. Yeah. And we'll. We'll keep our. What's that? Yeah.
Ian Rapoport
Still golfing.
Darius Butler
Bill does it all.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Are you still golfing?
Ian Rapoport
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
I saw you do a little golf thing with what's his face. Bkhk.
Biz Nasty
Yeah.
Ian Rapoport
My boy bk. Yeah. Down in Bokeh, the King had a little scra.
Pat McAfee
Bokeh.
Ian Rapoport
Beach Boys turned it. I didn't see them out there. But we had a nice, beautiful, beautiful day. Beautiful weekend.
Pat McAfee
I thought you. I don't know how you played the entire course. I saw that one hole that he.
Ian Rapoport
Ticked off part three. Yep.
Pat McAfee
Debunches.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, man.
Pat McAfee
Great swing. Yeah. I mean, he's totally. And then the putt, he rolls it up to like that far. Oh, yeah. Good Par. Couldn't pick the ball up though, with the putter. I know.
Ian Rapoport
I felt bad about that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Cuz there's people like, wow, give this guy boke.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Can't pick up the ball.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah, that was bad.
Pat McAfee
Normally you pick up.
Ian Rapoport
I was hoping. He should have edited that out. Saved me a little embarrassment. But, you know, we're talking about it.
Pat McAfee
I think that's why you wanted a little.
Boston Connor
That's bk.
Pat McAfee
You gotta show this. That this guy's a human somewhere.
Ian Rapoport
It is bk.
Pat McAfee
All right. Be friend. Tell a friend something nice. You might change your life. Or sing together. Team on me. Team on 3 RAW Netflix, 8 o'clock Eastern. I appreciate you all so much. Great work today, boys. Connor, way to back.

Boston Connor
Head on swivel.
Biz Nasty
Okay, let's go.
Pat McAfee

Darius Butler
Always be in the corner of a.
Boston Connor
Room, eyes out, facing the front door.
Pat McAfee
Go call kid.
Ian Rapoport
Let's go.
Boston Connor
Know your exits.
Pat McAfee
I will tonight. The issue with where I sit is it's right in the middle of everything. That's right. Yeah. A lot of people in my six and to my nine and to my three. Yeah. Not nearly as many people to my noon.
Darius Butler
Where's Spike?
Pat McAfee
Everybody else is actually where I can't see.
Ian Rapoport
Yep.
Darius Butler
Spike caller, that's not a bad idea.
Pat McAfee
That's the right play.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Especially with his.
Darius Butler
Exactly.
Pat McAfee

Pat McAfee
