Pat McAfee
Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to our Hubble above the Thunderdome on this concave Eve, June 3, 2025. This program begins now. Sports are happening all around us. And as we await the NHL Stanley cup finals which kicks off or drops puck tomorrow evening, and then the NBA finals, which tips off on Thursday evening, we have something magical happening tomorrow from Cary, North, Carol. It is the TST event. Tst. Oi, oi, oi. T, S T. Oi, oi, oi. So you wanna say TST tournament, but it is actually the soccer tournament. So if you were saying TST tournament, it would be the soccer tournament. Tournament. It would be the soccer tournament squared, which it should be more like cubed, or maybe even to the 10th because of how spectacular it is. There's a bunch of soccer teams coming down to Cary, North Carolina in Batt, settling in a seven on seven style of play that is absolutely electrifying. For a $1 million cash prize, only one team can win one million bucks. And we're hoping it's our team, the Concave SC. Boy, obviously we got dogs all over the place. The man saying, shush, shush your face. Shush, shush, shush, shush your face. You'll get to know him over the next few days. That's Meat. He's one of the arena League boys. On the other side, we got Ruggles. Okay, this guy. I guess he's the guy.
AJ Hawk
Look out.
Pat McAfee
I guess there's him and Meat on the same team is problematic for the entire tst. And then obviously Grella is back. Great to see Grella back. Paisano Brek Shea leading the way. He will fight, people. Brek Shea will fight. We have a tough team. We have a team that doesn't take any shit. And we have a style of soccer that's going to be played down there that is going to be absolutely electrifying. Let's get to the rules here. Okay? It's a 7 on 7 tournament on a smaller field in the field, Cary, North Carolina, proceed. I don't think I've ever seen better grass. It looks like it's a golf tournament.
Ty Schmidt
It does.
Pat McAfee
It literally looks like you're playing soccer on a fairway with how beautiful it is. Obviously there's bleachers, there's tickets being sold. Our show will be live down there tomorrow and Thursday in. The game is electrifying. Each game, 40 minutes with two halves, 20 minutes each, obviously. Running clock, running clock. And whenever the game is over, you know, the end of the 20 minute second half, there's something called Target score time. There's no offsides, there's unlimited substitution, and the only way the game ends is with a goal being scored. And it's never over. Nobody's ever out of it. We were down a couple goals, and in target score time, we're able to come back and hit the target score. What's the target score? Oh, one more goal. What, Than what the leader has?
AJ Hawk
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so if we're leading five nothing. Look for that to happen.
AJ Hawk
Which will happen.
Pat McAfee
Look for that to happen. Okay, if we're up 5 nothing, soon as the game's over, it'll go to target score time. The target score now is six. They could technically score six straight goals and beat us. That game's not over till they do that. Every three minutes in the target score time, one player from each team is getting removed from the field. So it starts seven on seven, then six on six, then guess what? Five on five. Wow. Four on four, three on three. They'll get down to two on two on this entire field. It is electrifying. The only way a game can end is with a massive goal being scored. There's always a walk off goal. There's always a walk off celebration. There's always a moment where a team is saying, yes, we might win a million doll. And the team saying, damn, we're in this thing. And we let this get away. This is target score time. That is meat. He was playing goalie back there. That's why he had a penny on. Pass it over to another one of the Arena League boys. That's Derek Huffman. He's back on the squad. He puts it in the corner, and obviously the boys go bananas. We were losing in this game. Down two, zip. We come back, win three two in target score time, and obviously we go crazy. I had a torn hip flexor at that time from my appearance in a game previous to that one. And I do have an upper and lower body going on right now, so I'm not sure how many minutes I will have on the pitch itself, but I'm going down there as team own. I'm going down there. Incredibly proud of the group that the boys put together. Mike Foss has been acting as general manager for this team. He found some good ones. Yeah, we got some old experienced vets, we got some guys that played in the Premier League, we got guys that played in internationally, we got guys that are playing mls, and then we got the Arena League boys coming in there to do their thing. Now, the arena style of soccer, which is obviously a little Bit smaller, a little bit fast paced. A little bit more. Sure.
AJ Hawk
Grinding power.
Pat McAfee
A little bit more rugged.
Boston Connor
I say a little more greasy.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. But that is what the TST tournament is about. So we gotta good group of Arena League boys that are back. They are going to steal the shine. They are going to steal the show. They are unbelievable. Then we got some outdoor soccer guys that have incredible resumes joining them. And I think this team led by coach Tony Mola. Wow. Coach Taber. Almost.
Ty Schmidt
Wow.
Pat McAfee
And obviously coach Bubba Gumpino, Coach Gomp3 Hall. I think we have a chance to maybe win this thing. Last year we got getting the hang of it. I think we got to the quarterfinals, had some electrifying moments. This year it feels like we're more prepared. Feels like the games are going to be electrifying. And it's not just us. The other teams have gotten better as well. This TST is wonderfully run. Obviously it started with tbt, the basketball tournament. Whenever they saw the success of that, the founders of TST approached the basketball tournament people and said, we think we could run like a soccer version of this. Okay. They come to a deal. Tst already bigger than the basketball tournament by far. They sell thousands and thousands of tickets. The amount of merchant is sold, the amount of ex players that come back in the vibes of this entire tournament, ridiculous. What they do is a beautiful thing. We can't wait to get down there in the concave for boys. Oh, oh, oh. Conqueror Feel good. Had a scrimmage last night down there.
AJ Hawk
Oh.
Darius Butler
How'd it go?
Pat McAfee
Boys are rolling.
AJ Hawk
Okay.
Pat McAfee
The boys are fast. The boys are ahead of schedule on what style of play is. Last year we got dropped in there, didn't have any preseason, didn't have a training camp, playing seven on seven. A lot of guys play 11 on 11. Soccer had no idea what the fuck they were doing. So they had to kind of figure it out as they were going. We kind of learned as we went alongside the Arena League boys this year. It feels like we got a better head start. We're ready to go. Let's go to one half of the Hammer Done. Cowboys. Bubble Gumpino, coach of the Concaver squad. Obviously. Gumpy, what are you looking for the boys this year? And are you trying to tally more than two yellow cards like you had last year? Maybe going for three, but I love this squad. It is absolutely stacked top to bottom. As we found out last year. As the tournament went on, we kind of ran out of steam. Had guys playing full games.
Boston Connor
This year we just Keep the boys.
Pat McAfee
Rolling and everyone's just going to keep doing their thing out there. Okay. We're playing some tough teams. Oh, yeah. Bournemouth, coached by Josie. Out the door we got Wrexham. I believe they're going to be playing down there. And who else is in our group? Real Athletico. Yeah. Anytime you got the Atletico that, the death group, that's when you shout out to YouTube TV.
Ian Rapoport
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Being a sports fan isn't easy, is it?
Ty Schmidt
No, not at all.
Pat McAfee
God. We talked about this with the Pacers. We talked about this with. I think we talked about it with the Fever last year whenever we were trying to find. We talked about it with Pittsburgh Penguins.
Darius Butler
Oh, it is good. It is easy, actually. Just pick good teams to root for.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but that's what Pacers. Okay, that's what I'm talking about. They were tough to find.
Darius Butler
Yeah, true.
Pat McAfee
You know, it's not easy. YouTube TV gets avid sports fans that feel more at ease. That could be you. Yes. You're a fan of like four different teams in each league.
Darius Butler
Perfect.
Pat McAfee
Let YouTube TV let you feel more at ease knowing they have access to all your favorite sports and live TV in one app. Love it.
AJ Hawk
Whoa.
Pat McAfee
That's what YouTube TV is. MVP features. How about that? Most valuable platform features. They'll put game highlights, stats and scores all in one place, making it even easier to be a fan. And also gambler. Yeah, they didn't say that. That was an ad lib by me. If they get in trouble for that, that was on me, not on them. But stats, highlights, everything that is a big part of that whole game. But also if you're just a fan, you want to learn more about the team that you love, player that you love. YouTube TV says bang, there it is for you. And obviously you can choose the multi view. Watch up before getting the best. Perfect. You know, we talked about this before the show. Innovations in television that have made my life a lot better. First downline.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Boston Connor
Huge.
Pat McAfee
Huge.
Darius Butler
Yes, Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
Major, gigantic yes. I mean that is one of the biggest things that has ever happened to television that I've been super pumped up about. And then you think about the multi view with the four of them, I assume inevitably was gonna happen, you know, and everybody will probably have this at some point, but shout out to YouTube TV getting that done for us.
Darius Butler
Building your own is everything. I when they make force me to watch.
Pat McAfee
So that's how it started. Remember, like here are your options. And then now it's developed so much. I assume that's a lot of shit to figure out. To put in there behind the scenes and everybody wind up doing it, I assume at some point. But congrats to YouTube TV. Bringing that into our life. All you gotta do is scan the QR code to score YouTube TV for 59.99 per month for two months right there. Okay. That's cheap, cheaper cable. I believe that is a deal right there. 59.99amonth for two months. Shout to YouTube TV. We do appreciate the hell out of you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I mean, I'm spending every single Sunday all day with you, YouTube TV. And you've made my life easier and better. Shout to them. And TST is about to be electrifying because now we talk a little soccer. Let's talk to the boys a little bit. Let's go to the talks table at Boss Connor and at Ty Schmidt. Ty Schmidt, first of all, big baseball conversation yesterday with AJ Hawk. Jack Caglio, this guy out of Florida. He's the one. Yeah, he is the one. I saw the reaction. This guy hits like Aaron Judge in Shohei Otan. That's what Jetpaston this show yesterday, when Darius Butler and I were at maybe the most wonderful.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, that's a feel good.
Darius Butler
I mean, it was a beautiful, beautiful.
Pat McAfee
It was a beautiful funeral. I don't think. I don't think I've ever been to a funeral where it was like everybody there was like, yeah, that was how it was supposed to go. Like, that is exactly what. Big man, boss man, Jimmy, Ji Jim James, Dad a lot, you know, Boss everything. All the titles that he had for all the people that were there. It was beautiful. I mean, this choir, I think it was the Eastern Church choir, I think was the name. I should have looked that up. I apologize for them. Incredible black choir, two whites. Two whites. Had a guy on a piano. Had a guy in the back. I don't know what he did. I still don't know what he did.
Darius Butler
I think he was just there for.
Pat McAfee
For, you know, D. Sitting next to me. He goes, D. I hire top row.
Ty Schmidt
He probably had good pipes bringing the base.
Darius Butler
He's doing something.
Pat McAfee
Whatever he did, he was part. Whatever that whole group, they need to know they brought it. I. I don't even stand. We're talking standing ovations in a funeral for the choir. And then all the daughters spoke. And I thought they did a wonderful job, by the way. Yep. That is incredibly difficult. Obviously, that many people, let alone everything that's been going on and also now the amount of pressure and expectation that are on them to lead the Indianapolis Colts. Going next. And I think with everything I heard from them, I think they are prepared to be great NFL owners. Obviously, they've been in it their entire lives, and listening to them speak in the way they handled it yesterday was. Everybody that spoke, I feel like, had a different angle, which I don't know if they all got on the same page and did that or not. Different story, different perspective. There was even a conversation about everything he's given back to. Obviously, the recovery community, which I don't think any of us in there knew. Like, hey, you know, Jim built, like, the nicest in, like, the country. Did you know? No, obviously you didn't know that, because this is just something he did. Like, all the stories that were just kind of coming out yesterday were all awesome. Then there were some videos that we hadn't seen, some songs we hadn't heard. Then his band performed at the end. Yeah, I don't know who he was.
Darius Butler
Great tribute.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God.
AJ Hawk
Axeman brought it shredded.
Pat McAfee
I mean, like, legitimately brought it home. It was just. It was like a perfect celebration of Jim Irsay yesterday and debut. Myself and my wife, we sat amongst all the NFL owners somehow, literally, just completely. Bidwell was to my left. Rooney was to the left of him. I believe A. McCaskey was next to Darius. Woody Johnson was there. Rodge was there. Haslam was there. Mara was there. Great posture on Mara.
Darius Butler
Perfect.
Pat McAfee
This guy, he was right in front of us. Did not even. Didn't even think about slouching, which easy to slouch in those church pews, especially without perfect posture the entire time. I think it was a beautiful celebration of Jim legitimately. So many good stories.
Darius Butler
Big man. Definitely happy looking down. Like you mentioned, celebration, you know, celebrating his life, celebrating the, you know, the legacy that he left behind. Hearing his daughters. You know, we have kids and, like, you know, at some point, you know, hopefully, you know, your kids are there to say those words and speak about you in that tone. And we know him as a boss. A lot of people know him as a boss or whatever he was in the community. But to see his daughters, his grandkids there, it was an amazing service. And I'm sure he was. He was happy looking down, for sure.
Pat McAfee
We cried.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Laughed, sang, clapped and honored him. I mean, I think it was like. It was perfectly. I don't even know if that is something you judge is how funerals are done, but that was, I think, perfectly handled. And the card that they gave out with his quote of we are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We Are spiritual beings having a human experience, which is like such a perfect. Every quote they read was about being different. And everything that he was about is like, you know, it's just, it was a cool moment. It was a cool moment. But while that was happening, okay, catching up with everybody. You guys were talking baseball in a big way. Jett passing came on here and heard everybody's talking about Jack Caglione. This guy's the next big one. I didn't know about him. I had to watch clip to learn about it. You guys did some great journalism. And it's not about the MLB right now. Right now it is about college baseball and college softball. There's some magic happening on these diamonds. Seven innings in softball, electrifying. And then nine innings, obviously in his college baseball, it's been electrifying. There's been a lot of shit happening in college ball and stick sports. Ty Schmidt.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I mean, in terms of college softball, I think what we see is like, you see like the, the real blue bloods in it are always going to be there. And that's why it's so awesome. Because you, a lot of times are getting, hey, these are the two best teams left. You know, like last night, I believe it was Texas Tech who, who took out Oklahoma. Obviously. We've had Patty Gasso on the show before. Pat, you went down and kind of spent some time around Oklahoma. They're, they're the top of the seventh.
Pat McAfee
Down two, two strikes, two outs, last inning, last at bat, two run shot from Oklahoma.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly. So I mean, like the Oklahoma again, they're one of those teams, you give them a second life, like more often than not, they're going to win. Texas Tech, we talked about it a couple days ago with D Butt. They made kind of waves. They went out and spent a million dollars on one of the best college softball players. I don't, you don't want, you don't want to say poacher from Stanford, but, but that was an offer. That's kind of the climate that we live in. And she is an absolute dog. She has thrown every single pitch in the College World Series for Texas Tech so far. And will and behold, they're in the championship series right now.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. With that being said, top of the seventh, Oklahoma hits a two run shot on Najari Kennedy. I believe I'm saying Najari Kennedy, she's from Stanford. They got a million dollar. Okay. Recruiting. Whenever she hit the transfer portal. And now, you know, there's always going to be people saying, oh, Texas Tech is just buying A victory. It's like, that's what college sports. And if women's college softball is making a million dollars, I think that's good for sports, that's not bad for sports. And she's lived up to it. She was the college player of the year last year. Obviously she was highly sought after. I think there was a story about Alabama recruiting her and maybe coach Saban saying, how can I help? I think there was some other schools that were like trying to put everything together to get her to go there. She ends up at Texas Tech and now they're in the. Because after the top of the seventh, Texas Tech sac fly, bottom of the seventh, this is all happening in the final inning. Boom. Wins the game, walk off. Texas Tech heads to the finals. Congratulations to women's softball. Yeah, people are making a million bucks. And it's electrifying yet again. Every year it feels like we watch this and we go, damn, damn, damn. UCLA will do something. Oklahoma will do something. Now it's Texas Tech.
Darius Butler
Oh, you was defending champ. Went on four peak.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, four.
Darius Butler
Now Texas Tech obviously going to get Kennedy. But now this is their first, you know, success ever on this level. You know, they never had a world Series win, period. And now to be in the title game is unbelievable.
Pat McAfee
I was at that Oklahoma softball facility. We're talking full stadium, full facility, Gaso statue. I mean, Gaso deserves more than one. Yes, she did have that last year debut or whatever while she's still coaching. It's like the a million bucks from Texas Tech. There's hundreds of thousands going to a lot of different players all over the place. It's like this women's softball in. And I think I started paying attention to it a little bit more because Shane Lechler, the retired punter, goat in my eyes. His daughter, I guess, is a very good softball player. So every time I would call him to ask him to do something, he'd be at another softball tournament and he would tell me about it. He comes to Indiana for a softball tournament. He's like, yeah, there's like 70 teams in a tournament in Indiana or whatever. You start learning about it, then went out to Oklahoma. It's like, damn, this is a thriving sport right now. And every single summer, whenever it plays on espn, it captivates for one reason or another. Usually it's electrifying. Last night, top of the seventh, bottom of the seventh, game tying dinger and then a sac fly to win that thing. With the superstar of college ball taking on the reigning giant, it's like that's a perfect storyline that is a, that's a dream storyline for college softball and it's awesome. Every single summer.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. And I'm not sure how the rivalries are in, you know, college softball, but I'm assuming Texas Tech and Texas have some sort of bad blood like the environment. Now tomorrow night and Thursday night will be electrifying because the entire state of Texas, I assume no matter where this game is, there's going to be a ton of fans and just bragging rights in general. Like Texas Tech wins. I bet Texas is going to have a couple million dollar players next year to get back at them.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think they're not going to be the only one, brother.
AJ Hawk
No way.
Pat McAfee
I mean there's going to be. Oklahoma knows that they're probably going to have to up it too. I mean that is. I think the people, the girls that were pitching to me were transfers in to Oklahoma like this past offseason after they won another national championship because they're in, they're hitting a transfer portal as well. It's. It's a great sport. It's fast. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Oh yeah.
Pat McAfee
Hey, so fast.
Darius Butler
Is that normal for the Aces to pitch every game? Okay.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
That's why, I mean this is one of the few sports, you know people about, you know, like certain college football rosters spending a bunch of money like softball. If you get a pitcher like, you know, Kennedy like you, you could completely change the entire season.
Pat McAfee
Because it's a natural motion they say.
Ty Schmidt
Right.
Pat McAfee
So it's just like a rotational thing as opposed to a. It's definitely tiring. I assume you do wear out your arm for sure. But they're saying it's a much more, more natural motion as opposed to what.
Ty Schmidt
A throw overhand throws, not snapping anything off and like putting a lot of stress on your elbow and stuff. Like I'm sure like their biceps and shoulders can get pretty sore. I mean she's thrown, she threw 130 pitches the other night. It said she's thrown 300 pitches in three games. Like that's a lot on the human body and on the arm. But yeah, it's, it's, it's not like throwing a baseball 100.
Pat McAfee
Step.
Ty Schmidt
Oh yeah.
Pat McAfee
Absolutely intimidating when they fall, when they. It's like it.
Darius Butler
You've seen the fast.
Pat McAfee
I was standing there in a batter's box and it's just like, wow, it's so fast. Here it is.
Darius Butler
So it's rising.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, both those. Yeah, the rise.
Boston Connor
That's why Jenny Finch was so popular because she threw Literally every pitch for Team USA in Arizona or whatever. Like, that's how, like, because they are literally their face is there every single pitch of every game.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. The riser is a problem. The riser looks like a beach ball coming in. It's like, oh, wow, that one looks much nicer. And it ends up at your face. Yeah, yeah. And I was like, how do you.
AJ Hawk
I mean, the last two nights, those two home runs, as soon as it's off the bat, they are shot gone.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Because they are throwing it so hard.
Pat McAfee
Okay, let's go to baseball. College baseball has a lot going on. Upsets galore. The sec. Oh, yeah. Hey, Greg Sankey. Hey, Sankey. What's going on down there at the sec?
Boston Connor
They need more teams.
Pat McAfee
It's going to get loud. It's going to get loud down there.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, that's a good question. You look at, I mean, 13 teams made it to the tournament. And as you can see, there are four teams in the SEC left. Most of these teams, too, in the SEC are. They're hosting these regional sites. So they're playing tournament games on their home field in front of their home crowds. And I'd be curious to ask Greg Sankey because I feel like baseball is one of the sports that they really don't have to put too much time and energy into because the SEC just dominates. Like you look at the MLB draft every year, most of those, like, really top end talent, they're coming from SEC schools because they can play year round. But that's the thing about college baseball. And with these metal bats and just like the game in general, like, you're seeing a lot of teams, a lot of these teams even have. Don't have winning records, but they're going. Even last night, you know, lsu, they got taken to the absolute brink. They were losing almost the entire game. Now they have some of that top end talent who eventually they got West Virginia right now.
Pat McAfee
So good luck.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Good.
Darius Butler
You guys still build a team.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we had five guys that don't play that want to leave. Get it, get out.
Darius Butler
Oh, those are.
AJ Hawk
Makes sense.
Darius Butler
They're right in the pond. And he just said, I'm out.
Pat McAfee
I know it wasn't old buddy that did the thing the other night that got us the big win. I know it wasn't him. Guzman. It wasn't Guzman, brother.
Boston Connor
It wasn't.
Pat McAfee
I know it wasn't Guzman. Yeah, I don't think it was. Big bat. Don't you worry about our team. Where's Connecticut? Do you guys play baseball? Do you even know what a bat is? We do.
Darius Butler
I think we won the Big east this year.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Doubt it.
Darius Butler
You know, you guys enjoy it, but.
Ty Schmidt
We'Ll see because there's still. Now we have the super regionals. And from the super regionals, that's who we're going to find out. Who's going to Omaha. It's one of those. There's still a lot of blue blood, still a lot of good teams up there. But it is crazy that because usually when we get to the College World series, there are five teams, four to five teams every single year from the SEC. And then you still have the. The UCLAs of the world, you know, kind of like the perennial powerhouses, North Carolina, Duke, teams like that, who are good every single year. But they. If you went into this season and you asked every, like, person who really follows college baseball, like big time pundits, they would tell you like, yeah, we could have never foreseen that nine teams from the SEC would be eliminated in the first round of the NCAA tournament. It's crazy.
Pat McAfee
It's fun to watch. We appreciate them doing that. And shout out to the SEC baseball atmosphere. It feels like anytime I watch one of those, it is electrifying. Turns up a little bit whenever you get to Super Duper Regional to head over to super duper Omaha.
Ty Schmidt
That's right.
Pat McAfee
Yukon lost in a Big east championship.
Boston Connor
Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
There's three teams in that entire conference. You guys came in second.
Darius Butler
It's all right. We got it. We got a banner this year. Would you lose to as a program. As an entire program.
Pat McAfee
You guys lost to Creighton. Creighton's good squad.
Ty Schmidt
Omaha, you know, that's where the College World Series is.
Pat McAfee
So beautiful town. We're supposed to go. Ty, I think you said you would go. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, not from college. Yeah, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
I love the College World Series. It is.
Pat McAfee
What's that place where you're buying all the shots for everybody?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, the. The bar. I don't know. I don't know the name of it, but yeah, they buy the jello shots. But we'll see because that's usually an SEC thing and you know, we might not get any SEC teams who make tournaments.
Pat McAfee
I think Tennessee has broken the record in the past, I believe.
Ty Schmidt
I know. But they still got to win their super regionals.
Boston Connor
That's gain your lsu, but more. More jealous.
Pat McAfee
That's a good gimmick out of that bar.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Hey, who's gonna buy the most shots? Five bucks a piece. Yeah. You won't buy 2,000 of them. You won't. They did.
AJ Hawk
Those small schools that show up. All that bar has to say is like, well, you guys aren't sec school, so we know you're not going to touch the record.
Pat McAfee
Please don't worry.
AJ Hawk
Don't worry. Coastal Carolina, Murray State. There's no way West Virginia. There's no way you people from Oregontown can drink as much as the people from Tennessee. So why don't you just.
Pat McAfee
I think that's what they did to the Tennessee people, I do believe because I remember because I think Peyton was down there. I think Morgan was down there. I think Clay Travis was down there. I think there was a bunch of people down there over there. And it was like, we got the record of the amount of shots. I'm like, good for the bar, dude. That's a good setup. You won't buy 10,000 of these.
Ty Schmidt
Wash me.
Boston Connor
38,000 is what they bought last year. Tennessee.
Pat McAfee
Unbelievable. What a weekend.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Unbelievable.
Pat McAfee
Good for the bar.
AJ Hawk
I bet second was 20 grand.
Boston Connor
32,000. Texas A&M.
Pat McAfee
Geez. What's the name of the bar?
Boston Connor
Rocco's.
Pat McAfee
Rocco's. Rocco's. We can't wait to stop by. Rock.
Boston Connor
$5 a shot.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Make.
Ty Schmidt
Make enough business for the whole year in one weekend.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So when Washington gets their Nose, we're going for 39, 000 of those things. Okay. Not just me. We're gonna need some friends, but we will certainly go for it. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who played 13 years in the NBA. He's co hosted Knuckleheads podcast. Friend of the program. And he had the Knicks, I think.
Darius Butler
Oh, of course.
Pat McAfee
Oh, he's. He's a basketball guy talking on tv. Definitely had the name.
AJ Hawk
And he has the thunder one in the title.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, like everybody does. Ladies and gentlemen, Quentin Richardson. What's going on, bud?
Ian Rapoport
Fellas. What's up, fellas? Nice shirt there. I see you. A nice little T shirt. I see you.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. WWE shop.com. you know, immortalize forever on cotton this moment. It was a game tire. He thought it was a game tire.
Ian Rapoport
Did you see the guy that got that tattoo on him? Some Pacers fans got that tattoo too. Pretty sick too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I saw it on the outside of a guy's calf. Feels like that's regrettable. But hey, nowadays, who cares? Who cares, you know, let it eat out there. This shirt is available WWE Shop.com Tyrese Halliburton, obviously second place for the Eastern Conference finals. Larry Bird MVP trophy behind Pascal Siakam. Doesn't matter. Okay. Doesn't matter. We're on to the finals. We're on to the finals. What do you think it was about that Pacers team that solidified an Eastern Conference Finals championship? And when did you know. When did you know that the Pacers were going to run the Knicks out of the gym? And I'm not saying the Knicks are a bad team. They made it to the Eastern Conference finals. I got nothing but respect for the way they played. But when did you start to feel like, oh, this is the Pacer series in this entire thing?
Ian Rapoport
Well, I mean, obviously after that game one when they stole that away from him like that. That was the. That was the Soul snatcher. So I felt like that was the, you know, right there. That was when I really said, oh, they could really go get this thing. But, I mean, as far as the other day, the last game, that first quarter, I can remember in the first or second quarter, just watching the game and looking at the pace, and at one point, Stan Van Gundy said it, he was like, this pace and the way everything is going, this favors the Pacers. And I felt that. And you saw what happened in that third quarter and the fourth quarter, moving on. They couldn't keep up with that pace. And I think, like Miles Turner said in one of the interviews, he was like, you know, their togetherness, their continuity and the cohesiveness that they've developed over being and growing up together and having those guys together, I think that's. That's winning right now, man. You got to look at that with OKC and this team. The teams are that. They have that cohesiveness that kind of come up together. They're the teams that shining right now. They're the two teams left in the finals.
Pat McAfee
OB Toppin hitting his head off the rim seemingly every night and getting chance from the entire crowd was awesome to watch. You're talking about freak athleticism there. I mean, he's real tall bunnies. And he jumps so high every time after the national anthem plays, he turns around, jumps on the rim, hangs on it, and then jumps back. He lands it like the free throw line. It's like this guy is explosive. This is unbelievable. Let alone everybody Nemhard. Thomas Bryant goes bananas. Obviously. Neesmith hit five of six threes down the stretch whenever they needed him to. TJ McConnell come in and bop some wood.
Boston Connor
Won't.
Pat McAfee
Hey, he'll get in there and pop some wood. Yes, he will. He certainly will.
Ian Rapoport
And then Carlisle, big TJ McConnell fan. I love that dude, I love the way he go in there and mix it up every time.
Pat McAfee
Pittsburgh guy, we appreciate the fact he's an NBA player. I don't know how many of those guys we have in the history of Pittsburgh. Not a lot. Not a lot. And that's just. That's just reality of this. That's a football talent. If you have the size to play hoops, they are going to try to get you fatter so you can play offensive line or defensive line. That's how it goes. So TJ making it is great news. And you talk about the pace. Coach Carlisle told us that going after last year after the Eastern Conference finals, the big offseason combo is like we got to be better conditioned. We got to be better conditioned. We got to be better conditioned. Do you think OKC is a team that's going to be able to keep up with the Pacers conditioning? Because it feels like everybody but the Celtics the last two years during the playoff runs, nobody can keep up with what the pacers conditioning is. OkC, the same exact build. And what does the matchup look like, you think?
Ian Rapoport
I think it's going to be intriguing, man. I think they both have, you know, teams that go deep into their rosters. They play 9, 10, 11 guys at different times and they really rely on their bench and they strength in numbers. But I don't think OKC's pace is as fast as the Pacers. I think they obviously are one of the league leaders in pace for the NBA season. But I think they have the youth and they have the bodies and they have the players that can keep up and be in transition and they can do their runouts and get in transition as well. Think they are equipped to handle it. But I think traditionally they don't play. Nobody plays as fast as the paces, really.
Pat McAfee
I was in Tulsa last night. They love the Thunder out there. Yeah. Live for. Absolutely. It was awesome. It was really. Because I came out, I didn't know how I was going to be actually because I was like, oh, oh, we are in Oklahoma. Like this entire thing. I've almost become one of the pseudo mascots of the Pacers publicly because the whole sons of ears ringing situation, you know, that whole thing. So I've got to become. I put myself. I'm a big fan. I like. I'm a big fan of Tyrese Carlisle. See, I like the way these boys play Siakam. I love the way the team plays. So I go in there and there's just signs as soon as I'm coming Out OKC in five. In my face, macphy. Love you, Thunder. And four, a lot of that, a lot of those chants. I was like, I like this. This is about to be electrifying for the Finals. This is guaranteed to go six, seven. Or is there a chance at Oklahoma city, who's a minus 700 right now, to win the series? That's a huge favorite. Actually. I got some stats here from Hembo. This nine and a half point spread in his first game. Oklahoma City is favored by nine and a half in his first game. That is the largest spread in an NBA finals game since 2020, when the Lakers were favored by 10 and a half. First, the heat in the bubble. It's the largest Game 1 spread in the Finals since 2018, when the warriors were favored by 13 against the Cav. And since 1991, the the only team to lose a finals game when favored by nine and a half or more was the Lakers in 2001.
AJ Hawk
Game one against the Philadelphia 76ers with Allen Iverson scoring 48 points.
Pat McAfee
So basically all things are saying. The sports books are normally pretty right whenever it's this big, and when it gets this big, it's not normal. What are your thoughts on the spread and what are your thoughts on how the series is going to go?
Ian Rapoport
I'm not a. I'm horrible. I'm like a novice at betting and all of the minuses. So I don't even get into any of that, even try to figure that out. But I'll say this. I think obviously OKC playing at home, like Pat, you talking about that crowd like they have one of the sickest crowds in the league, if not the best. They are absolutely in the top tier of whoever else is out there. But they crowd is literally the closest thing in the NBA. I feel like you get to a college crowd with the type of, with the way they come up in there and they get after it. So I think that's a, that's a huge factor that they have going in there. But also like when you look at what happened between these two teams during the season, and I agree these are two different teams right now. You know, obviously they've been the best two teams down the stretch coming into this point. But if you go by the season, you know, Tyrese struggled mightily against them and SGA did not. So if you're looking at that, that does not bode well. But I mean, I don't like to try and use that as a comparison now that we're in the Finals because I Feel like, like I said, these are two absolutely different teams. But I feel like whoever's able to, you know, force their will on the game because sga, he, he, he's a lot different, Pat, than what you saw from Jalen Brunson. Jalen Brunson was the smaller guy, compact, doesn't have the, like SGA is a legit six six. He's getting guys up off him, he's going over guys and he obviously leading score. Mvp. He is prolific at putting that ball in the basket. So he is going to be a handball for. For sure.
Pat McAfee
He's a foul artist as well. Same with Jalen Brunson, which is a talent. I don't think it's a negative. I think it's a talent to be able to put yourself in a position to get the whistle.
Ian Rapoport
There's never been, there's never been a dominant scorer in this league that wasn't a, wasn't a foul artist. Pat, don't let anybody. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, James Harden, all of these guys, they, they're, they get to the foul line, look it up. They, they, they are up in the, in the, in the all time leadership of free throw, you know, attempts. Like when you look at Paul Pierce, tmac, all these guys, they got to the foul line. Anybody who scores the ball at a high clip, they normally get to the foul line. That's a part of it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And then I think Crawford told us, crossover told us that if you're to eliminate foul shots from everybody, SGA still the leading scorer. So in run of play he's still the leading scorer as well. So not just quarter points.
Ian Rapoport
You could take his fourth quarter points away as well. They said. I saw that. I saw the same thing. He saw four portal throws and he still leads the entire league in scoring.
Pat McAfee
The guy's unbelievable. They got a lot of guys over there that are great. Jalen will also pop out of nowhere. And then Chet, what's he doing? Too much. Feels like it's going to be a great series. I can't wait. Now on that note, you talked about SGA there legit 6 6. Does not look like with the way he moves. Does not look like the way he moves. Yeah. Way too smooth to be six foot six. You're supposed to have a little horse, you know, like baby horse.
AJ Hawk
Sure.
Pat McAfee
When you're that tall, you know, somehow able to move like that. That would be so cool to be able to imagine walking into an LA Fitness.
AJ Hawk
It'd be fun.
Pat McAfee
Six, six. Being able to move like that. Put A headband on. Do your entire thing. Unstoppable, sweetheart. Let's get all the fouls.
Ian Rapoport
When you look at the numbers he's put up, like, his numbers say that no one can stop me one on one. Like, he scored 30 over 50 times in a season, scored 20 over 60. Sometimes, like, that's legit. Saying league wide, no matter what defense is happening, no matter what's going on, they can't stop this kid. It's. That's scary.
Pat McAfee
And he bought Rolexes for the entire team when he won the mvp. Seems like he's the perfect guy, you know? Never ends. You got a tough Pacers team coming to town. Yeah, sga. On that note, Connor has a question for you. Q.
AJ Hawk
It might be time to revisit that Paul George trade. I think you could consider that as the worst trade in NBA history now that SGA is an MVP and they're in the finals. But. Q. Rich, what individual matchup are you looking for? Looking forward to the most? Is it SGA and N. Smith and kind of the other guys that they're going to throw at sga, is it, you know, Jalen Halbert and Alex Caruso on Halliburton, or is it the new haircut? Chad Holmgren versus, like, Miles Turner? Kind of. Kind of like a new.
Ian Rapoport
That was the real thing with that haircut.
AJ Hawk
No, no, no. That was NBA. Sentel. I was just joking. But.
Pat McAfee
But which. Which matchup Are you running wild last week?
AJ Hawk
Yeah, still is.
Pat McAfee
Oh, God.
AJ Hawk
People have not caught on yet.
Pat McAfee
Geez. Barry made an appearance here yesterday's still throwing his fastball.
Boston Connor
When your league gets bigger. Yeah, you got to start getting used to these things.
Pat McAfee
Sentel's throwing his fastball still. Jeez Louise. Anyways, sorry.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, no, no, no, push.
Ian Rapoport
I think I'm most interested to see who. Who do they. I believe they would probably put Lou Dort on. I think he'll see Pascal and Tyrese. So I'm. I'm interested to see who. Dude, this dude. Lou Dort is a unit. Do you hear me? He is a unit, and he is a problem out there. Like, you gotta watch. No, listen, I'm telling you, Pat, like, you got.
Pat McAfee
He.
Ian Rapoport
He torture with anybody in some five. So I'm interested to see how they deploy him and who he has the guard, because it's gonna be a long series for whoever he's on. So I'm interested to see that. I think. I think Tyrese has to be somewhat like of one of the better players for the team for you guys to Have a chance. He can't have the subpar games here there. He has to be like the star, Tyrese, this whole series for you guys to even have a chance because they are so elite a guard. Played it. If he doesn't play well, I don't see how you guys could do anything.
Pat McAfee
All right, well, good luck to Tyrese. I think he'll rise to the occasion. Good luck to the Pacers. And I can't wait to watch this OKC team do their thing legit.
Ian Rapoport
And shout out his pops, man. Pops. Got a hook. Got a heroes welcome. After the game, man, I was watching them come down. I know that had to feel good, man. Out of the arena. Then when he get brought back, they bring him down to the court. That was. That was dope to see, man. Shout out. Shout out, Tyrese. Pop.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Shout out. John Hal Burton. Pops. Free pops, though. It's backwards. He's not in jail. Let's not get crazy here. He was sitting at home. That's what Tyrese said.
AJ Hawk
Very nice.
Pat McAfee
Home the game three. Whenever he was up in the suite, he had this neon blue hoodie on. Like, I was like, I wonder where it pops is. And then literally just sticks out like he is right there. And he stood the entire game, obviously, just like he was courtside. And then whenever they win and he's allowed to go down and celebrate, man, what a moment.
AJ Hawk
And I get to see him.
Pat McAfee
I saw him in the back. I saw him in the back. Yeah, he gave me a hilarious speech. He said. I'm not gonna say what he said.
Darius Butler
Allowed to go course at the finals.
Pat McAfee
I. I think, you know, because they said indefinitely. They never gave like an actual time frame. And his boy is playing in the NBA finals.
Darius Butler
Come on.
Pat McAfee
I mean, this feels like gotta let him back in there. But also they don't want people to think, like, hey, we're okay with like true people getting on, like, because I think that's a big deal in the NBA world because of how close fans are. Like, I think in your guys world, if I've kind of come to understand anything with the way players act with fans, I think there is a build up tension with how close fans are and how they feel like they just got a ticket to say whatever they want to people with how close they are with basketball. I feel like you guys have to deal with that a lot more. That's why whenever a player snaps, finally, I don't think it's just that night. I assume it's probably 20 nights leading up to whatever's taking place.
AJ Hawk
History of the Pacers, too.
Ian Rapoport
I'm not saying, you know, that's never gonna change, man. That's. That's always gonna be a thing. We, our fans get some of the, you know, get. Get close. Like, probably the closest to the action of any fans that, you know out there. And my experience is, like, if you. If you're very direct and you. You concise and you say the thing, and you say the thing the right way to the person, they'll. They'll. They'll know that they're messing with the wrong person, and they'll kind of leave it alone. So that. That's. That's. I've seen that happen a lot, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I watched James.
Ian Rapoport
That's what. Like, you got to tell them the right thing. Like, I. Like, I had to tell somebody right one time. Like, yo, like, you do realize that, like, you are right there. Like, I understand there's rules and there's things. It's invisible lines. But, like, I can reach out and touch you. I'm very much bigger than you, and it will be very easy to harm you. Like, bro, just, you know, very easy to harm you. You don't want to be embarrassed right now. Like, just like, we are very large human beings that are five feet from you. Like, don't do it. Don't do it. Like, it's a couple guys over here that will take that fine. I'm just telling you, like, don't do it.
Pat McAfee
Very easy to harm you. I'm looking at you right now. You ain't got it. Yeah, okay. I hear what you're saying. We got a lot of guys. I was on their bench. I mean, I was on the Pacers bench with where we said. I was in there. There. I heard what they were saying. So much so that I actually heard James Johnson talk to a New York Knicks fan that was front row, probably six feet behind us, and what he was saying. And I mean, he verbally decapitated this man, Jeff Johnson did. I mean, it was a problem, but with how that went, I just thought to myself, damn, they are in here. Like, I could see that. Getting Oklahoma City's fans. From what I've been told, it's just like, college atmosphere. Yeah, they're in it.
Boston Connor
Not as many stars.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's just a. Yeah, it's an interesting. I'm excited to watch it. But, yeah, the. The. The back and forth between players and fans in the NBA, I think that's the most personal because you are in. I mean, I'm getting Rebounds. Yeah, I'm getting a ball. I'm handing it to an NBA player. Here you go. You got this right here. Nope.
Ian Rapoport
Detroit. The visitor seats in Detroit, it's literally like the size of a space. Like, think about the seats on the bench, right? It's. It's literally like a space where they took a seat out and then it's fans right there. Yeah, they're like, on the bench almost. It's like. I don't know if they change it yet, but, like, that's the way it used to be. And that used to cause a lot of issues with the chirping back and forth. Cause it's like they just being fans. But, like, you too close to be that animated as a fan. Like, just. Even if you're not saying anything to me, I'm gonna be annoyed that you're this close. Close to me.
Pat McAfee
And I can hear everything that's being said. I can hear everything that's being said whenever I'm down there. It's like. So you gotta act like you're on. The guys don't, though. I'm happy they don't. I'm happy they're able to get into a zone where they don't even think about people being two feet away from them while they're bitching or complaining or talking shit. Because you could potentially feel guarded because, like, I have no idea who this person is that has a camera on me, two feet away from me. But you. It's an interesting sport, man. I'm very fascinated by the NBA. Obviously making a lot of money. Those courtside tickets. Yeah, those things are pricey access cost.
Ian Rapoport
Now, but they get right up into action. Like you said, they. Right there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I was in it. It was a lot of money we paid, but, I mean, we were definitely on the pace.
Darius Butler
Viral clip of, like, I think late great Kobe Bryant. I think it was Kobe.
Pat McAfee
And Chris Rock.
Darius Butler
Chris Rock was like, probably like this. This just talking. Kobe is just locked in and he's. I mean, he wasn't talking shit. He was probably trying to say some funny and just locked in. So, yeah, being that close to the action is nuts.
AJ Hawk
And he was saying a lot. It was like him and David Spade and David Spade's like, pissing his pants laughing about. Chris Rock is saying. And he's going.
Ian Rapoport
Kobe is not even flinching. He didn't even flinch. There it is. Here it is.
Pat McAfee
Did we miss it?
AJ Hawk
No, no, no. It'll zoom in.
Ian Rapoport
Oh, watch. They gonna show Kobe. Kobe is not even there.
Pat McAfee
That's like Matt Barnes. That's Matt Barnes and Kobe with the thing. All right, let's talk a little bit of Lakers, shall we?
Darius Butler
Go ahead, D. But yeah, I don't know if you saw the clip of Luka being a guest on Mining Game Pop, but if you haven't, we got it right here. I want to get your opinion on it.
Pat McAfee
I think it'd be unfair for the audience if we didn't ask you off the bat what it's like playing together. How you feel playing with LeBron? I know you looked up to him as a kid and now you guys are teammates. I mean, it's great. You see, I've never played with a.
AJ Hawk
Guy like this and, you know, just.
Pat McAfee
Being traced it to here, to la, it was different. But just to play with guys like him, like, it's unbelievable. Like, I can learn so many stuff, you know, first of all, off the court, you know, all the things he does just to be ready for the game. And obviously on the court, everybody knows what kind of player he is. What, like, give me an example of a couple things you've seen, like, being around him every day where you're like, he does that. Like, what's he doing over there? Like, is there anything that stands out? Initially we were like, wow. Well, first of all, he shows up like 10 hours before. That was really the main. Like, I was what I came into the arena, it was 22 years, he was already done working out. I was like, what? Yeah, I just got to the arena. He was already done working out is what Lucas said.
Darius Butler
Yeah, that's crazy. So, like, did you have an experience like that? I guess seeing it from an og, seeing how they work, something that changes because everybody comes to the league with that elite, elite talent. But what is like the difference or what type of impact do you think this will have on Luca going forward?
Ian Rapoport
I think it'll be very positive, man, to be able to see, you know, get a look behind the curtain, to see what somebody like LeBron, who's been doing it for 22 years, who's known for being in the best shape and keeping his body right and being one of the most best conditioned guys ever to play. And that being something that, you know, that Luka, that they have highlighted, that Luka needs to work on, I think it should be great for him, being able to watch him and learn from him and see what he's doing. For me, when I came in, that person was absolutely. It was Ray Allen. When I came in, I saw, you know, I got to the gym one day this is when we were playing, and you get to the arena, and it's like, who out there already? Like, they out there with the. With the. With the. You know, the little slam team, the people that's doing the flips off the trampolines. He didn't move. Getting the cheerleaders out the way. He was there that early, and I was like. I saw that. I was like, damn. You know, like, Ray Allen, like, going crazy with it. He here, like, for. He getting here before the home team, and he was. This was when he was on the road. He was coming to LA as a visitor, and I'm like, yo, like, he already here. So, like, then once I saw that, like, I changed my routine. Like, all right, cool. I'm gonna get here before everybody so I could get all of my shots in. Nobody else is out there getting work in. You could get through your routine and get your stuff down and get your feel in, and then you could go back and chill. You can get, you know, a hot tub, cold tub, ice, whatever you want to do, get your mind right. But you don't got to worry about going out there while the other team is out there. This thing, you can do whatever you need to do if you get there early enough. So that's what I took from that.
Pat McAfee
Is there a chance that Luke had no idea that you're allowed to do that? Is that real or no? Like, he said he's never seen that before. Like, is there a chance that Luca saw it for the first time and was like, what? Because I think J. Will told a story on here about playing against the Lakers. It was the Bulls versus The Lakers, and Kobe was whatever. I forget what time it was in the morning at the thing, and Jay was like, geez, I had no idea you were even. So then Jay will try to come earlier. Well, Kobe just set him up. Kobe came earlier the next day. Or whatever the case is. It feels like you hear some of these legendary tales from the basketball world, but is there a chance Aluka didn't fully understand that that was, like, allowed? Like, how does that go about being.
Ian Rapoport
I don't think at this point, because at this point, everybody has their own facility. You go into facilities 24 hours, always get shots late at night, do different things. So I don't think at this point, but, I mean, I don't know. Maybe he didn't. But I could see for real J. Will back in the early 2000s, it was different then. Like, Kobe probably had keys that nobody else had had. You know what I'm saying flex. Did nobody. Like, back then, everybody didn't have their own facility. And it was different things now in this day and age, literally everybody has their own facility and different things to facilitate. Literally, you can go in the gym 24 hours a day now. That's a big difference from when I first came in the league in 2000. Everybody, like. Like, literally, we.
Pat McAfee
We. Our.
Ian Rapoport
Our practice facility with the LA Clippers pet Southwest Los Angeles Junior College in South Central la. Do you understand me? We did not even get to take showers after the practice. We had to put towels on our chairs and on the seats of our car and ride home for wherever you got to go and get your shower there. It was like. It was like. I'm telling you, it was wild.
Pat McAfee
I don't want to judge too much. I don't want to judge too much, but I've been in that area. I don't think you're even allowed to wear Clippers colors outside there, right? Oh, no.
Ian Rapoport
It's very, you know, you, like, listen, you had to know what was going on. You had to understand what was going on out there. Like, you pulling out and it's like, sometimes we be getting out of practice, the school is getting out, and it's.
Pat McAfee
Like, they like, yo, Ooh.
Ian Rapoport
They on the car like, Aston Martin.
Boston Connor
Like, who is that?
Shams Charania
And it's like, you can't.
Ian Rapoport
Like, it's like, you gotta be kind of cool. Cause we come in here every day. You can't be in here being no, you know, no asshole and tripping. Cause then it might be a problem. So it's like we were really in the hood with it. Like, that was a different time, literally.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Now Ballmer built up the Intuit Dome and everything that's going on in most toilets out of any arena in the entire NBA. We appreciate the hell out of you, Q. Rich, you're the man.
Ian Rapoport
Yes, sir. Anytime, fellas.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, Quentin Richardson Rich showing up South Central la shoot around at a high school gym. I guess I should run. I guess it's practical practice. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Donna Sterling, football.
Pat McAfee
Hey.
AJ Hawk
I mean, all those people getting out at once, too. Oh, like, that's a nightmare.
Pat McAfee
Jumping on Aston Martin. The thought of just an Aston Martin rolling through your high school. What the. Who is I. I did hear Donald Sterling was going to all those practices.
Matt Vogt
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
AJ Hawk
He had a place right there.
Pat McAfee
Let's pivot away from the NBA and let's go to some magical stories that are happening in the golf world. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us from ESPN he has the best Southern accent you've heard since McGee. Ladies and gentlemen, Marty Smith. Never settle. How you doing?
Marty Smith
Well, you say, boys. How y' all doing? I'm. I hope my signal holds up. I'm out here in the country. I driving back to Charlotte from Dirty Myrtle. Oh, took my son down there. He's working the Carolina Country Music Festival this weekend. Slinging beers, moving around heavy stuff, doing all the grunt work. And to be 19 years old with all them pretty girls for four straight days. That boy's living right.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, down at Myrtle beach, too. I mean, that is a. I don't want to say that is a white trash paradise, but I will say, as somebody that would be potentially considered from a white trash place, heading down Myrtle beach is always a great time.
AJ Hawk
I'm jealous.
Pat McAfee
I have never had a bad time in Myrtle beach at. I don't think ever. So good luck to your boy down there at the concert. Let's talk a little bit of golf. I see you holding a golf ball. You might have just got off the course down there in Myrtle Beach. A lot of great golf courses down there. U.S. open. Was that Augusta? Oh, you bought that?
Marty Smith
Let me try to figure out how to do this the right way. There we go.
Pat McAfee
Oh, wow. That's a 700 ball right there. That's unbelievable. Don't lose it. Don't put it.
Marty Smith
You can't hide money, Patty. You can try, but you can't do it. You live it every day, big boy.
Pat McAfee
Don't put that ball in the woods, okay? Somebody will come scoop that up and act like they're you. Let's talk about the US Open, though. Yesterday, I believe there was nine qualifiers. I believe there's 12 in total because there's one in Asia, there's one in Europe, obviously. There's one in Ontario that was held yesterday. Nine different qualifiers, obviously. The big story was coming out of Columbus, Ohio, where Houma, Fowler, Young were all battling for a sixth place finish to get into the US Open. That came down to a missing three foot putt, actually. And those boys are missing the US Open. This is a great time of year. And how. How do these guys get into these tournaments? You just got to show up. Is that what happens, Marty? How do I get in this US Qualifier that happened yesterday all around the country?
Marty Smith
Well, you gotta. You gotta qualify to qualify to qualify. And US Opens, 156 players. Of course, it's at Oakmont here next week. A place I'm sure you're very fond of. Incredibly hard golf course. Maybe the Hardest in the world, depending on who you ask. And you have to be so precise there. And I'll tell you, if Scottie Scheffler, fellas, is not the. If he is not such an overwhelming favorite, like we're talking Tiger woods at his highest powers type of favorite, then they're not doing it right. He this place, it demands precision. And right now his precision is just historic and remarkable. So, yeah, it's golf's toughest test every single year. And this year will certainly be the case.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think the rough at Oakmont. U.S. open. Oakmont, obviously, in the east hills of Pittsburgh, right there near Plum. Okay. It's in Oakmont, which is a different town, but it's right next to Plum.
Boston Connor
Majority of the course is in Plum.
Pat McAfee
Plum, yeah. A lot of plum representation there at Oakmont. They got rid of Oakmont East. We told the story a thousand times. That was the public course that was next to Oakmont. That was a good time. They had a 18th fairway that was downhill and straight, long way. Used to get trash bags, obviously, in the winter. Break into the course, you're flying down. Oh, it was great.
AJ Hawk
That's awesome.
Pat McAfee
I mean, you're talking about great time on Oakmont East. They have since demolished Oakmont east, made Oakmont bigger, badder and better. And that course is a beautiful one and it's going to test everybody. You talk about Scottie Scheffler being amazing, and obviously we talked about the qualifiers yesterday. Did you hear about the dentist here from Indianapolis, Indiana? Matt Vogt actually qualified for the U.S. open. He's originally from Seneca Valley, which is in western Pennsylvania. He grew up when he was in college trying to become a dentist out here in Indianapolis, Indiana. He caddied at Oakmont. His father passed away two months ago. Obviously, the US Open at Oakmont is on Father's Day weekend. And he's Nick Boraldo's actual dentist here in Indianapolis, Indiana. You're talking about a magical story there. That's what the US Open I think kind of is, though, in the lead up. It's like, hey, no matter who you are, if you play great and qualify, you can maybe change the trajectory of everything. And this dentist might do it. Marty Smith.
Marty Smith
Well, I loved seeing his emotion in the aftermath of qualifying for the tournament and throughout the entire post round interview. He was doing everything he could not to break down emotionally because it's one of those moments where you have a dream, you let the dream slide a little bit and go fix people's teeth and do root canals and give them crowns and whatnot. And now here you are, you're going to be playing against in the same field with the best players in the world. And that's the magic of that event. And I just can't wait to see what he does and how his story unfolds throughout this next. I guess it's next week, but just fabulous. It's one thing that, that makes that tournament unique. And if anybody happens to have an issue with gum recession during the week, he'll be able to take care of.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, obviously. And hopefully he'll have his little axe pick thing that everybody hates seeing coming in their mouth. I mean, nobody really enjoyed Always the Dentist experience.
Marty Smith
Is there anything worse than that? I mean, there are. There are very few things in the world.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Marty Smith
That are more, like, make you more vulnerable than sitting there like that. Yeah. Just like that. I was gonna do it, but I didn't want to end up on the Internet.
Pat McAfee
You're on there right now, Marty, and nobody would do that to you. Nobody disrespects you. Nobody would ask Grock to make it look like Marty is at a dentist's office right now with his mouth open, getting a drill pounded down in there. And you gotta have good vibes because nobody's coming to you Happy. Nobody's going to the dentist because they're happy. Always miserable in the schooling to become a dentist. Impossible. Terrible. They gotta do, like, actual doctor shit.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
And then they get, you're not an actual doctor, you're a dentist. It's like, well, I just went to med school basically for the last four years to do this entire thing. And while he was doing med school, he was still able to keep his golf game at a level where he's qualified for the U.S. open.
Marty Smith
I don't know how.
Pat McAfee
Me neither.
Marty Smith
I mean, I don't. I don't know how he was able to do that. Like. Like, if you. You have to. If you're a great golfer who's a Sunday, Who's a weekend hacker, who's scratch or A plus, or even somebody who can, you know, be a six handicap, you got to play all the time. And if you're somebody that's good enough to do what he's done, I don't know what his. I can't wait to learn what his schedule was.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Legit. I mean, that's a real question on how he's able to figure it out. And I don't. I don't know personally, but there can become a time where he's like, I don't want to be known as the Dennis guy who's gold. I just want to be judged off my golf. It's like, well, bud, you spent your entire life focusing on something other than golf and you're still in the US Open. That is worthy of being told. Congrats to Matt Vogt. Now he's not the only one to qualified. That's an insane story as we're running up on a hard out here. Go ahead, Ty.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Marty. What about the 17 year old kid, Mason Howell, who shot 63. 63 to qualify. Do you think, think we'll see anything special out of him? I mean, I. I can't imagine any 17 year old is going to be able to take on Oakmont with how long it is and, and the rough and everything. But what do you think about this story?
Marty Smith
I think it's amazing. I mean, my son's 19 and can't get out of bed and tie his shoes in the morning, so.
Pat McAfee
And now. Oh no.
Marty Smith
I can't wait to see what that kid does on the 8th. Have y' all ever heard of a 300 yard par 3? Get out of here. Like what, what, what are we doing?
Pat McAfee
That's classic U.S. open. We're going to be down in your world here starting tomorrow. Tone has a quick question for you.
Boston Connor
Yeah, Marty, quick. Any must go spots or must go to spots down in Raleigh when we're down there next couple days?
Marty Smith
Oh, I didn't know you guys were coming to Raleigh. That's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Are you coming to see us?
Marty Smith
I might be able to come over and so I got to see. McGee and I are going to Nashville, Tennessee.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, hell yeah.
Marty Smith
To the CMA Fest. We're going to interview a bunch of country music singers on the Southeastern Conference network.
Pat McAfee
Hell yeah.
Marty Smith
And so we'll be tearing up Nashville while you guys are in Raleighwood.
AJ Hawk
Make sure Nice.
Marty Smith
Make sure you get you some Q. All right? Get you some North Carolina barbecue. Because look, vinegar Q is the best cue. Don't let anybody steer you different. I respect Texas. I respect Kansas City. All of y' all are great. But we make it the best down here.
Pat McAfee
All right? We will definitely try that. Here's you at the dentist. By the way, shout out to Grok. Taking care of your teeth. No open mouth. You're the greatest, Marty. You're the man.
Marty Smith
Guys, I know we got a heart out. I just passed a 1987 IROC Z with T tops and white letter BFGS on it.
AJ Hawk
Oh, hell yeah.
Boston Connor
Were they smoking cigs?
Marty Smith
When I start making that Pat McAfee money that's gonna be in my garage, baby. That's like. I mean, you know, speaking of the beat, that guy's been to. Dirty Myrtle, Daytona beach, ladies and gentlemen, Marty Smith.
Pat McAfee
Boy, Dirty Myrtle's awesome.
AJ Hawk
The best.
Pat McAfee
I've literally never had a bad time there. Nope. What a wild place. Everybody understands what the deal is, too. That's why I like it. Good luck to Marty's boy.
Darius Butler
With a team ready to conquer the grandest stage, immortality awaits.
Pat McAfee
Moments of sweat and sacrifice towards the composition of champions. An unforgettable journey is nearing its finale. Four more wins to take home the trophy. The NBA finals, presented by YouTube TV. Begin June 5th on ABC. Hello, beautiful people, and welcome back to our humble abode, the Pacer Dome. On this Concave Eve. Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Our two starts now sports. Somebody tweeted me that and I think it was a good call. The Pacer Dome can't be the Thunderdome of Oklahoma City.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, that's a great point.
Pat McAfee
Somebody tweeted me that. I wish I could give them credit. It somebody sent me a tweet and said, don't you think maybe Thunderdome not good this week? And it's like, you're right. Welcome to the Pacer Dome, baby.
Darius Butler
I don't know, the pastor Dome kind of stinks.
AJ Hawk
That it does stink. And we all. It's more so like, oh, you think we're new to this Thunder?
Pat McAfee
Nuh dun dun dun. Pace, sir. Welcome to the Pacer Dome, brother.
AJ Hawk
I mean, Pacer.
Pat McAfee
Welcome to the Dome There it is. Great to be here. We can't thank you enough for allowing us to do this for a living. We talk about sports every single day. And we're thankful that we get to do that. We are the luckiest people on earth because you decide to watch or listen wherever the hell you may be. And we'll continue to do this for as long as you'll show up. Speaking of showing up, tomorrow we'll be in Cary, North Carolina, live from tst. And it is going to be a glorious few days as we find out who's the million dollar team taking on the soccer tournament. Is it everybody else or is it Conceifa sc? Our team's ready, our team's rolling, our team's experienced, Our team is getting paid. Sure. Our team is getting paid fair. And our team's ready to take on this mock this beast that is the tst. And I want to let you know when these boys get rolling. And Jeff Cameron back right Corner there. We kept him on the graphic just strictly because of what he's meant to the team over the last two years. He will not be playing.
AJ Hawk
What?
Pat McAfee
What?
Boston Connor
Why?
Ty Schmidt
On, man?
Pat McAfee
He has a lower body. I got an upper and a lower body.
Boston Connor
Captain America.
AJ Hawk
That's bad.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. We got a couple. We got two lower bodies, upper body between the two of us.
Darius Butler
So they got dip.
AJ Hawk
That's real bad, man.
Pat McAfee
We got 18 players ready to go, though. 18 players ready to roll. Ready to roll. Mike Foss. Ready to roll. J.J. watt took a shot at Mike Foss the other day. I think it did put a chip on his shoulder about the size of his brain. I don't think that's what JJ said. JJ was talking about the size of his head. Just as a whole, the four part of it. And then the brain in there is just so big. He's ready to go. He's in shape. He's in. And I've been told by Zano, Gorilla hasn't stopped working since last year. Wow. So like last year he was getting into shape. Now he's like.
Boston Connor
He's a real heart soul.
Pat McAfee
He also owes us.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. He tried to tear the entire team down. But I think he understood. When he looked in the mirror, he was in the middle of training. At that time, he was all.
Boston Connor
He's also in his blood. You gotta give him a break. It's in his blood.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
TST is a soccer tournament that happens in Cary, North Carolina. It's seven on seven. It is electrifying. It is a smaller field. It is two halves of 20 minutes each, 40 minutes in total. Running clock. Let's keep this thing moving. There's no offside and it's unlimited substitutions. Now. Sub cannot step foot on the field until the person steps off the field. Red card. If you step on the field before the other person is fully off the field. Had to put that rule in because the first DSD subs were happening. Real loose. Yeah. You know, there was like eight guys on the field, nine guys on the field. So they said you can't come on the field until the other person is completely off the field or it results in a red card. What that does is open up some, you know, you got some real shots. It's an electrifying style of soccer. And it only ends with a walk off. It's called target score time. If the leader has two goals going into the target score time, which is the end of regulation after 40 minutes of play, then the target score will be 3 even if they're up 2 to nothing. The other team can come back and score three goals and win this thing. You're never out of it. And the only way to end the game is by somebody making magic. For instance, this is three on three at this point with a goalie. That's our Arena League boys. That's our TST team player meat feeding Huff me with a torn hip flexor and gumpy after his second yellow card. Going in and celebrating alongside the boys. The arena boys, the outdoor boys as we tried to chase greatness last year in carry. We'll try to do the same thing this year. Key rules. No drop kicks are pardoned by a goalkeeper.
Matt Vogt
Sure.
Pat McAfee
No slide tackles. Make sure they monitor the slide tackles this year. I I have heard that in our preseason scrimmages, pre tournament scrimmages last night there was three of them. Our team played in reports coming to me that we had three guys did slide tackle members of the other team.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, let that go.
Ty Schmidt
Get it out now.
Pat McAfee
One of the guys actually potential two footed slide just set the toes.
Boston Connor
We're just looking for consistent cleats up.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Two footed cleats up. We won't say who it was. I think we all know. Okay then there was also a. I believe there was a little bit of. It was not Gordo. There was a little bit of a mix up. I do believe. I believe the boys are. That's why they call it friendly. The but it was not from what I heard. The boys are squirrely. The boys are ready to get in.
Boston Connor
A little bit greasy out there.
Pat McAfee
And if you don't have a little bit greasy. I think there was a couple greasy plays by the boys. But hey, I don't know what they did to us.
Matt Vogt
Sure.
Pat McAfee
For us to answer in response. I was not there. Obviously I was in Monday Night Raw and Tulsa. But if you do not have a team to pull for in tst, which I assume is not many. Yeah, I know everybody's a fan of legions. I've already been pledged. I understand that it's big tst. There's a million bucks on the line. You're gonna be able to find this all on ESPN plus. You're able to find these. I believe I'll probably be commentating most of the Concave games. I assume I'll have a microphone near me owner. You know I gotta make sure the boys are doing what they're doing. But if you don't have a team we would welcome you to the Concave club. We would welcome you to Concefa. We're a team you're going to like. Physical team. Physical, explosive team.
Boston Connor
We buy jerseys. Is a merchandise available?
Pat McAfee
There is merch. I believe there will be concave merch there, which we are very thankful for. The TST folks, for hooking it all up and Mike Foss being on top of it all as our general manager of concave. Our team's explosive, Our team's very talented, and our team will fight like that. That has been set.
Ty Schmidt
Our culture is we will fight, maybe even each other.
Pat McAfee
Bingo, though. We'll fight each other. We'll fight the other team. We are a scrappy group that you're going to want to get behind. And we have the best chant in all of tst. That's me blasting one home. Look for more of that in target score time. And let's. Let's continue this conversation. The talks tables here at Boston Connor and at Ty Schmidt. Hearing good things about Stefan Diggs up there at OTAs.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah, great things. I mean, even off the field, a lot of people still thought they were great things. It's just some people viewed them a little differently than others. But yeah, Stefan Diggs looks fantastic. Good vibes, teaching a lot of the younger guys. And, you know, I think someone said he's six months and 25 days removed from his ACL tear, and he looks extremely fast. Here he is with K Sean Booty, and they're going around the cones and he's moving. Yeah, he's catching up to him. He's beating him around those cones. So vibes are very high. New England Drake Mayo's also. Also 14 of 16 yesterday.
Pat McAfee
Okay. And stats in these are going to be tough to keep up with because who's practicing what, who's in where. Is this the first time they're running a play? It's hard to just go off of stats and OTAs because you have no idea who's working on what at that time because there might be some DBs working on some new, so they might get cooked. Now, there also might be something the quarterback's working on where he might be missing a little bit. So it's hard to just judge specifically off of stats and OTAs. You got to watch the film. In the film that I saw, Stefan Diggs not just out of the practice, he posted something on Instagram of him working out. He's. He's out of an ACL right now. And obviously everything else that has been talked about, very much so. It's unbelievable how fast, explosive, quick. And his hands are just so seemingly Spectacular all the time.
Darius Butler
Yeah, a lot of times. There's always a lot of other shit around, like wide receiver one specifically. But when it comes to the work and the work ethic like Stephan did is up there, Tier one always has been in his recovery. What he's been down doing down there with Sheree from day one down in South Florida recovery now. I love seeing him back with the squad, on the team. You just build that camaraderie. You're in the meeting rooms, obviously you're in a new place, you're getting used to your quarterback, the timing, things like that. And then I'm not sure who he was on the sideline with. I think it was Baker maybe number one and just kind of, you know, schooling him up, teaching him some things. Saw the same thing with Puka, Devonte, like that's those are the most valuable things for this time of year for the vets, being around the young guys and just dropping that game on them day in and day out.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, there's Puka and Devonte and Puka will be a sponge if we know anything about Puka. Puka's not scared to ask questions, he's not scared to listen, and he has enough ability to adapt anything that devonte is giving him into his game. That is quite a duo over there in Los Angeles that I just got reminded of with Matthew Stafford spinning it with Sean McVeigh's big brain and the run game that they had down the stretch in the playoffs. Good luck to the Rams going back to Stefon Diggs. I think everybody thinks about him at the Bills and then it ended. Then he goes to Houston. He obviously gets hurt. When he was playing with Houston, he was playing well with Houston. Remember C.J. stroud was doing it again and he had Stefon Diggs and Stefan Diggs gets hurt. When he got hurt, what was he?
AJ Hawk
I believe he was seventh in the NFL in catches. I'm not sure how many touchdowns he had, but I know he had two week one in Indianapolis. So people acting as though he was, you know, bad last year. And I think that might have been because the Texans and him agreed to a one year deal. So he wasn't playing on big money. But he was seventh in the NFL in catchers and C.J. stroud was top five in passing yards. And we saw kind of what happened in the middle of the season with the Texans where they kind of fell off and then completely went to, you know, Joe Mixon. And granted Nico Collins also got hurt. But acting as though Stefon Diggs is just some schlub now is a little ridiculous. And if he can get one or.
Pat McAfee
Two, I mean, anytime you get into a very public relationship, that's going to happen.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
People are going to attack you. I mean, that's what it is. But he's built for it. Stefon Diggs is built for it. He is very much built for it. You're talking about on the field.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I'm saying, like when the contract was signed and it was three years, $69 million and everyone was like, what an overpay. And then of course, after the fact, it comes out. It's really a one year deal with. With 15 million cash and a bunch of incentives. But when that happened, I meant is when everyone was acting like yourself. Look, the guy likes to be on a boat and have some fun. Who doesn't? I do. Okay. But he just happens to be Stefan Dick.
Pat McAfee
They said it was Himalayan sea salt, baby.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah.
Boston Connor
It's also international waters. There's no laws out there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. It looked like when they gambled out there, he wasn't. Because he wouldn't. He wouldn't want to jeopardize game. He just. Let's have a good time. I think there was a shot on board.
AJ Hawk
Cook.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Cotti. I mean, whatever the case, him playing football, he's unbelievable. Yeah, that is. And you talked about how wide receiver ones. Every once in a while there's going to be a. Hey, you're going to have to. You have to deal with that. Yeah. What's that? Oh, he's dating one of the biggest stars on earth. It's like, that's either good or that's bad. How do you view it? Well, it's like, well, in the offseason, whenever there's a free time, there's probably going to be stuff that isn't necessarily. This is how a robot should operate as a professional football player. But then whenever Cardi B's coming to the games.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
And she's with Kraft up there. Jon Bon Jovi.
AJ Hawk
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
You know, and all of a sudden we got that thing rolling. It's like, I'm happy for Stavon Diggs and I hope he knows how great he is and I hope we get a chance to watch it, you know, I hope we keep the main thing. The main thing always. Because of how great he can be and everything else. Go live your life, brother. 1/2 of the Hammer Cowboys AP Tonis here. You look great, brother.
Boston Connor
Thank you. Appreciate that.
Pat McAfee
No problem at all. I. I think your cowboy Hat thing needs to stay. You remember he thought about stopping. Remember he became baseball capstone. Yeah. He didn't want to become like a one trick pony. I think you look good in a cowboy. Thank you.
Boston Connor
I appreciate that. I did look myself in the mirror after you said that. I. I've been on a cowboy hat run here. Now we're traveling this week. It's a real pain in the ass.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. The cowboys need to figure out how to travel with these things. Yeah, I thought you did.
AJ Hawk
You got the cool magic linen thing.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
That's a lot. And then the backpack thing that got sent to us. It's a. It's a lot of space here. Not a lot of things.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And because you got to keep the thing inside of the hat, you can't even fill the bag with other. No, it's literally just a full bag for one hat. Yeah. It's a tough.
Darius Butler
It's a lot.
Pat McAfee
It's a tough maintenance.
Darius Butler
This is summer. The ventilation up there.
Boston Connor
Oh, the straw. The straw. Yeah. That's a Memorial Day to Labor Day situation, brother.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. It's like white pants.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
When you put that on.
Darius Butler
I like it.
Pat McAfee
And then the other one is felt failed.
Boston Connor
Yeah. For the. For the. For the colder months.
Pat McAfee
Now, that particular style of brim.
Boston Connor
Yep.
Pat McAfee
It's called something. Yep.
AJ Hawk
It is twang to the right.
Boston Connor
No, I think it's a JB brim, I believe.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. There's a bunch of different styles. You walk in there and they got them all laid out. What haircut you want on this thing? Do you want any of the rope around front there? You can really get. You can really upsell.
Darius Butler
They like.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Shaping it. Heater, I think, in the back. Heating that thing. Yeah. Yeah. A man who needs to wear a cowboy hat, maybe.
AJ Hawk
Amen.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Got a chance to see him at the end of the day. Thought he did a fantastic job. Very thankful for him traveling out here to host this show. Live from the Pacer Dome. From the Pacer Dome. Oh, got a logo, huh?
AJ Hawk
I think this is a bad idea.
Boston Connor
I'm a Pacer fan.
AJ Hawk
What are we scared?
Pat McAfee
What are you.
AJ Hawk
What are we. What's this?
Pat McAfee
So there was a guy named Ravensthal who's the mayor of Pittsburgh. He changed his name to Steeler Stall week of the Ravens.
AJ Hawk
Did they win?
Ty Schmidt
See, that's a great idea.
AJ Hawk
Did they win?
Boston Connor
That's a great idea. That was Ben's time, but, yeah, he was Steeler.
Pat McAfee
I'm mayor. Steelers stall this week and the Steelers won. So when I read the tweet of the person that said, are you sure about this Thunderdome taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder? I was like, you're right. This should be a Pacer Dome like fucking Ravensthahl did.
Boston Connor
You're right.
Pat McAfee
Now, with that being insulting me, there's no way. Yeah, there's no way that'd be the favorite mayor of all time in that city. Dude, I don't know if any mayor is a favorite in Pittsburgh, man. You gotta remember Pittsburgh is not like the most. Yeah, you're doing a great job outfit.
Ty Schmidt
They went crazy when he announced that though.
Pat McAfee
Well, he made a whole declaration, I do believe. I think there was an entire. From this point forward, whereas I will be known as Steeler Stall.
Matt Vogt
I believe that some people still call him Steelers.
Pat McAfee
I would have. Is he still the mayor of Steelers? Yeah, I think he. I think.
AJ Hawk
Who is the mayor?
Pat McAfee
That's a great question. I think it's Marcoli. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, live from an attic in Ohio. College football national champion. Super bowl champion.
AJ Hawk
I hope not.
Pat McAfee
I'm happy I pulled that Raven Stall thing there. That feels pretty good. Did they win? Oh, yes. Okay.
Boston Connor
2009. They won a Super Bowl.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, exactly. Pacer Dome.
AJ Hawk
But did they win Ravens week?
Darius Butler
Oh, no.
Boston Connor
Yeah, they won the AFC championship to get to the Super Bowl.
Pat McAfee
Steelers stall.
AJ Hawk
I think. I think we're actually scared.
Boston Connor
It was either the when the one where they beat the Cardinals or lost the Packers.
Pat McAfee
I can't remember. Whatever the case. Whatever the case, we still made it.
Boston Connor
We still beat the Ravens.
Pat McAfee
Steelers stall. What was. Ladies and gentlemen, AJ Hawk. You grind your hair out, I see. I saw it yesterday. Maybe we screw that thing all the way out and just threw the full on point.
Michael Cole
Nah. You know, getting. Yeah, just trying to get a haircut is. Is a tough situation. Keep it the Thunderdome. Don't worry about it. It's about us. It's not about that. You know that. It's never about the other team. You stay you.
Matt Vogt
Well said, aj did you not hear.
Boston Connor
The Steeler style story?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Did you hear that? It's amazing.
Michael Cole
That almost. That almost pushed me over the edge. Made me think. All right, maybe is a genius idea, but no, I think Thunderdome is fine.
Pat McAfee
I can only go off my own experiences. So when I see the mayor change his name and it's a success story and it works, I just think to myself, maybe we should think about whatever we'll vote on at the end.
AJ Hawk
Maybe Carlisle something with Carlile we could do.
Pat McAfee
Oh, I'll call it the Carlisle Dome right now. Cardo.
Michael Cole
That'd be sweet. I like that.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Car.
Boston Connor
Carport.
AJ Hawk
Cuz that. That's where the real advantage is in this series. Rick Harris Carlisle versus Diego. No, like, that's the one.
Pat McAfee
That's. What's that.
Michael Cole
What was that?
AJ Hawk
That's the. That's. How you say.
Ty Schmidt
That was an elaborate scheme to say Dagan though. You know it was.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You saw your opportunity, you took it, he seized it. And that's disgusting. That is not his name.
AJ Hawk
You guys reacted, made me laugh. I. I seriously don't know.
Pat McAfee
Just real quick, though, just for legitimate purposes, this was a real thing that his mayor. Steelers stall. Okay. All right. Hey, look, there's action news right there. KDK is on it. We're here for kdk. You know, that's where, you know, many greats were, including Sally Wigan. Have you heard about Sally Wigan? And she might be wtae, actually. Sally Wigan. Big fan of the program.
Boston Connor
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
We need to know that she was.
Boston Connor
At Big Night Out.
Pat McAfee
She was at Jelly Roll and Post Malone.
AJ Hawk
She was there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
That's awesome.
Pat McAfee
I was trying to figure out what to say to the Pittsburgh crowd about how everything great comes from the street, this place. So I talked about Iron City, talked about Primanes. I talked about Joe Nardo, Rest in peace. Obviously, everybody had a quick bonus. Sally Wiggin, Big Pop Fedco.
Boston Connor
Big Pop Ken Palpier.
Pat McAfee
I should have put Pomp in there to mention Kennywood. I had a hat. Kennywood hat on. Did you see it?
Darius Butler
Oh, okay.
Pat McAfee
Did you see the Kennywood hat?
AJ Hawk
And it was on the big screen, so it was.
Pat McAfee
It was speaking for itself. Everybody knew what the hell I was talking about. Shot Steve little Kennywood insider for us.
Ian Rapoport
What is that?
Michael Cole
What do you mean, what's that?
Pat McAfee
He's.
Michael Cole
There's insiders for amusement parks.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he's worked there for so long, he kind of knows the ins and outs of place, you know, he knows what's coming. He knows what's happening. Steelers spent a day at Kennywood the other day.
Ty Schmidt
I saw that.
Michael Cole
Of course, they did try to get people in the park.
Pat McAfee
We know that after seeing them, some of the Steelers at Jelly Roll and Post Malone, I'd like to say Steelers might win the Super Bowls. Hell yeah. Steelers might win. Herbig, this guy, big fan of the way he operates. Just kind of how he goes about doing what he does. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Keanu as well.
Pat McAfee
Keanu, Absolute dog. They are the guardian Cap generation. I let them know that they were the ones.
Boston Connor
What did they say?
Darius Butler
Oh, I'm glad you Let them know.
Pat McAfee
That I said it's your generation that became the guardian cap generation. And there was no response there. There was a lot. I thought you.
Boston Connor
You heard. I heard there was a response.
Pat McAfee
There was a lot of response.
AJ Hawk
They just pointed out that some teams use them more and the Steelers happen to be one of those teams.
Pat McAfee
No, the Steelers happen to be a team that doesn't use it a lot.
Boston Connor
No, no, I believe, I believe they said one team used them more than any other team.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they said they did the research and the Colts had the most out of everybody. That's cuz we got the smartest team.
Darius Butler
That's not real.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it was.
Michael Cole
I mean, like most guys wearing them in gameplay, Is that what they mean?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, practice and gameplay, whatever the case, it's 33%. Exactly. Did the math. You start adding up to that's 66, that's 200, that's 133.333 that you kind of get 66. You don't get. And then you double that. Obviously you're up to 132ish. And then all of a sudden, holy.
Darius Butler
Now, you know, you're playing football.
Michael Cole
You can run your head into anything now.
Pat McAfee
Now it's just you're basically using your shoulder. Your head's not even existing. No. In the entire.
Boston Connor
Why are we not wearing guardian caps and cars?
Pat McAfee
I am.
AJ Hawk
Oh, I think that's just joining us.
Pat McAfee
Now, ladies and gentlemen. Grok can do anything. I learned he can. And I'll tell you what, people got real creative. Real creative.
AJ Hawk
Dangerous.
Pat McAfee
They got real creative out there. I don't. Now I'm seeing Grok ask for permission to do things. Like somebody asked to put, you know, Michael Cole flexing last night and in a tank top. Somebody asked to put some terrible things on a picture. Like what? Hitler mustache. Yeah. And Grok goes, I'm not gonna do that. And then I think the guy says, come on. And then Grock goes, I can do another mustache. And it's like, I can't do that.
Darius Butler
Also, Grok has some.
Pat McAfee
There are boundaries. It'll put me.
Michael Cole
Could you work around it though? Could you work around it? Say, hey, put. Give me the mustache that Michael Jordan had in his Haynes commercial back in the day.
Pat McAfee
Could that get around the parameters, Michael? Maybe. I don't know. Why don't you try it? Why don't you get in there and try. Why don't you give yourself.
Michael Cole
Let me kick the tires on Grock a little bit.
Pat McAfee
Give yourself one of those. Shout out to Michael Cole by the way, jacked. That's good, man. Absolutely jacked. I saw the Internet did its thing with him. My favorite one that somebody sent me. I don't know who made this. I apologize for not giving credit. Grandma. Show me those bits. Big Marshalls. That was incredible. It was absolutely incredible stuff. Shout out to Michael Cole. Doing that especially in Oklahoma.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You know, and I heard there was some people that are maybe pretty against this happening. Who? Yeah, just some people potentially against it happening. I'm very thankful for Triple H going, oh, no, no, no. You are definitely wearing a tank top out there. And Michael Cole's been running four or five miles a day for seemingly the last couple years. Working out. Now he does have a little, a little bit of a gut. He's an older gentleman who drinks a lot of beer. Yeah, yeah. Okay. So that's going to stick around. But you could tell that he's really working on it. He's jacked up.
Ty Schmidt
Yes.
Pat McAfee
And the Oklahoma City people reacted in such a beautiful fashion. They were pumped for him. And then they were booing him. It was, it was a magical moment. He does look Jack, though.
Ty Schmidt
He does.
Darius Butler
He should have stood up to Gunther's damn self.
Pat McAfee
I agree. Now that I'm thinking about it.
Darius Butler
Just built like that.
Pat McAfee
Geez.
Darius Butler
Michael swole.
Pat McAfee
Well, I'm thinking about how good Gunther is. He just rag dolled Michael. Michael Cole just picked them up, scooped them up, put them in a chokehold, started the entire thing. Shout out to Michael Cole and shout out to TJ McConnell. That's game worn.
Ty Schmidt
Jersey boom.
Pat McAfee
A little tight. I think TJ has seen it. Yeah. From what I've heard, there's been a positive reaction from DJ McColl joining us now, ladies and gentlemen. He's a senior insider for the NFL. We have a Kennywood insider now joining us. Senior NFL insider for NFL Network. Ladies and gentlemen, the host of the weekly Wrap up with Rapture and Friends. Us being a friends, he being rap sheet, ladies and gentlemen. He in Rapaport.
Shams Charania
Okay, so, hi guys. I have some questions. Actually, two questions. One, and I don't mean this in any sort of shot at Michael Cole. No, I, I really don't. I'm just curiosity. He shaved his armpits for that pose or is that a normal course of action?
Pat McAfee
Oh, I don't know. I didn't even notice. Let's zoom in.
Shams Charania
Like, look at the armpits bits. He's like, you know what, I'm gonna pose down. Get me the Bic or, you know, whatever your razor of choice is. And maybe people don't use bics anymore. Give me the Gillette. Like people are gonna see the armpit. I can't have that happen. Shave right away and then let's go. Is that what happened?
Pat McAfee
Interesting. He might be a guy that doesn't have armpit hair though either. Like a lot of. I don't have a lot of armpit hair.
Michael Cole
I don't either.
AJ Hawk
And he has no chest hair.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I don't have a lot of armpit hair, but I got like. Yeah, I got back hair and chest air. So I got like a lot of chest hairless guy. I got back hair. I don't have like prominent armpit hair. Yeah, it's not like a. A thick armpit hair. So maybe he just has like a lighter armpit.
AJ Hawk
Like a naked coal.
Shams Charania
I call shenanigans. No way.
Pat McAfee
You're saying he shaved his pits?
Boston Connor
Well done.
Shams Charania
Hundred I would.
Michael Cole
Bodybuilders do.
Darius Butler
Yeah. Isn't that like a WWE super thing?
Pat McAfee
Definitely could have.
Shams Charania
He could have waxed or laser. Also options.
Pat McAfee
So WWE and bodybuilders, very normal to shave whole body. Correct. Have tans a little bit of lotion on or glisten a little bit. Yeah, he didn't do any tanning or glistening. I see. So I don't think he was preparing too much, but he certainly has been working the upper body.
AJ Hawk
No doubt about it.
Pat McAfee
Okay, let's move along. What does your shirt say? Is say boob.
Shams Charania
Oh, put it in the books.
Pat McAfee
Met.
Shams Charania
Sure. Let's go Mets. Big Mets win. Big Mets win. Last night I was sleeping but one against the Dodgers. And extras I saw online, people were saying it was a battle of two super teams. And to that I would say, yes, it was.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Michael Cole, massive, massive Mets fan as well. I think you guys are what, the second best team in the league.
Shams Charania
I mean, I don't know what the standings say.
Pat McAfee
You don't know?
Shams Charania
I would say the best Tigers are the first.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So I think they're second best then other league.
Shams Charania
The Tigers, they're good.
Ty Schmidt
That's your third team in the nl.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Third best team in the N. Record wise. Cole follows every pitch, every at bat.
Ty Schmidt
Love it.
Pat McAfee
Unbelievable. This guy stinks every two seconds. Just outbursts from him following during this.
Shams Charania
During the broadcast. He's got like the mini.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. During the broadcast. If it's a big game, he is certainly checking down and being dramatic about it too. Like head into.
Ty Schmidt
That's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Just in the middle of like, you.
Shams Charania
Got to understand that the psyche, like we've Been through. Me and Cole and the rest of us tortured Met. Met fans. We've been through a lot, and now it's getting good. And so, like, this is the time to get emotional and really feel it now. In September, we'll probably be feeling it some more. It's. Those playoff games are a lot. Very stressful, but I look forward to it.
Pat McAfee
Well, I appreciate the fact that you just say you're a Mets fan because you get free seats for you and the family from the Mets, so you have to kind of do the gimmick. I appreciate that.
Shams Charania
I, I. If they want to give me seats, I will for sure take them.
Pat McAfee
How about opening pitch? How about an opening pitch? You do it.
Shams Charania
I did that already.
Pat McAfee
How'd it go?
Shams Charania
Crushed it. It was during COVID It was actually ridiculous. It was during COVID Fauci and I had to wear a mask and my.
Ty Schmidt
Wife down the middle.
Shams Charania
I did. It's on the Internet. My wife had to be my catcher because at the time, the rules were no. Like, there could be no cross contamination, so she's got some game. But she was so nervous that I would, like, bounce one at her shins, and then she would be. Look at that. Yep.
Ty Schmidt
Go back.
Shams Charania
I was so. Oh, my God.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God.
Shams Charania
You couldn't get right on the rubber. So, like, you can get in front.
Pat McAfee
Who said?
Shams Charania
Yeah, I'm good on the grass.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Look at the wraps. Big hug success story. That's a pretty good throw, right? I was not expecting.
Shams Charania
So nervous.
Pat McAfee
Miss. Guy's got a little good army.
Ty Schmidt
He does have a pretty good.
Pat McAfee
He's got pretty good little arm. Wow, honey. He's got pretty good little arm.
Shams Charania
Rub my catcher's mitt because, you know.
Darius Butler
Ridiculous.
Pat McAfee
If you had to do it again.
Boston Connor
Would you have worn the mask or.
Pat McAfee
Would you have gone up to the. The rubber? What are they gonna do?
Darius Butler
Two gumps?
Michael Cole
They're not gonna tackle you.
Pat McAfee
No. What if they would come up and got mad at you? You would have been like, ah, took the mask off. I do.
Shams Charania
I do not.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Shams Charania
I do not need that.
Pat McAfee
No.
Shams Charania
The problem with going up to the rubber is it naturally makes the ball sink, like, just a little. So instead of here, it's like, Jesus at the shins. And the last thing I need to do is have a pitch that is not catchable for my wife. That would have been very, very bad for me.
Pat McAfee
I think they need to get you back out there in front of the whole crew.
Ty Schmidt
Without a doubt.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And you need to get up on that Rubber. You need to show those pearly whites, and you need to throw gas. You need to try to make.
Shams Charania
Hart was like, I don't get nervous about anything. And I was like, out of breath. I'm like, this is how people feel.
Pat McAfee
You just drink your way through life. You're not going to get nervous. I had a couple beers before. Yeah, of course. Of course. All right, let's talk a little bit about the NFL, shall we? The Carolina Panthers released some draft footage that was spectacular, and I think there's a lot of pieces for us to chat about, but if you haven't seen, this has come from the Carolina Panthers from draft night. Most specific, specifically pick number eight. Some trade discussions going on at the time, but I was kind of hoping that the trade would fall through because I really wanted to take TMAC O line or tight end at 7, so our guys might be able.
Boston Connor
Let's.
Pat McAfee
Let's just hold off and see if the Rams fall. Yeah, I'm wired.
Ty Schmidt
And you guys can see it on the blueprint video.
Pat McAfee
Like, I want to trade up. I want to trade back. Like, I want to. Like, I just want action. When Mason got picked, I knew we were gonna have an opportunity to trade our pick. We had. We had action. It's kind of big for us. No pressure, though. I'm fine.
Ty Schmidt
So the Rams wanted to come up, and when you're coming up from that far, you're moving that far back, the.
Pat McAfee
Compensation becomes a lot trickier.
Ian Rapoport
I do.
Pat McAfee
No calls yet.
Ian Rapoport
Oh, hang on.
Darius Butler
What's up, man?
Matt Vogt
What do you got?
Ty Schmidt
Before we went on the clock, before the draft even started on Thursday, like, we.
Pat McAfee
We had to figure it out. Like, okay, it's gonna take this for us to move back to 26. So it's. Hang on.
Ty Schmidt
It's eight.
Pat McAfee
We're on the clock, and the Rams are asking, hey, do you guys want to do this trade? All right, let me click there.
Matt Vogt
What are they saying there, Sam?
Pat McAfee
We had a little bit of trade stuff going on that we were kind of working through. You know, they would have had to give us the moon for us to trade out on of that spot. It's still not the same deal we talked about. So for me, it was no different.
Ty Schmidt
Than free agency or even doing an extension.
Pat McAfee
Like, I'm just following a script and a plan. How does that compare with this one? Yeah. Would you. Would you do this right now? Yeah. The one we offer?
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Matt Vogt
Would you do this?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Okay.
Darius Butler
Either they do it or.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we're just going to call it. Okay.
Ty Schmidt
We will do the thing that Dan.
Pat McAfee
Had proposed, I think. Okay, cool. They're talking like, I can feel my heart pounding.
Ty Schmidt
Eric leaned over to me and he was like, this is like a multi.
Pat McAfee
Million dollar decision for us. I'm like, okay, great. Thank you. There's two minutes left. You know, I remember looking up at the clock when he didn't get picked at seven and he was there, like, it was like, boom. We already knew what we were going to do. It was just a question of was.
Ty Schmidt
It going to happen.
Pat McAfee
Okay, cool. All right, they're out.
Ian Rapoport
All right, teammate, let's go.
Pat McAfee
We like TMac. What I saw out of that video is a lot of things. Brandt Tillis, I believe is his name, the executive VP of football ops has a lot of say and is very chatty. Okay. Morgan, general manager there is actually consulting with him throughout the entirety of it. I think what they were waiting on was a full haul. Like, hey, if they're going to offer us something that we can't refuse, will do this. But instead, let's get T. Mac. You saw Canales, the head coach, offensive guru, on the far side of the table. Like, yes, let's go get T. Mac. What I noticed, though, was there's one point they looked at Tepper to get an answer. Tepper didn't say. All anybody has said about Tepper is that he's hands on. Hands on, hands on. Too handsy, too hands. He's too involved, too involved. He's not letting the football people do their thing. We just watched in the biggest moment for their franchise, first round pick, top 10 pick. He just sat there and let everybody, everybody do their jobs. I think if you're a Panthers fan, you love everything you saw there. Do you agree, Rapp? And what were they looking to trade for there?
Shams Charania
Okay, first of all, I do agree. I noticed that too. Like, Tepper was right there. You could tell, obviously, like, in tune with it, but let them do their thing. Dan Morgan and Brent Tillis have a really good relationship and you could really see them kind of feeding off each other. Like Tillis with the numbers, knowing kind of the value on the phone with the trades. Morgan being like, all right, if we're going to do this deal, and, you know, I really felt like they wanted to pick. There was all this stuff before and about, like, Panthers are open to trading. Open and trading. Obviously they were, but like, T. Mac was a guy who you could tell, like, they wanted to pick. They would have had to be blown away. They didn't get their deal very quickly. T. Mac I thought that was a cool moment. The Rams were the other team. They were on the phone with them and there had been, you know, some rumors about the Rams potentially coming up. Obviously those were real. I believe TMAC would have been either the choice or very much in consideration. You know, which is so interesting because I think the pre draft process at least like the rumor mill wasn't really kind to.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Shams Charania
I mean, but that's how think about how highly the Rams had to consider him to be willing to trade all the way up. Like that means. Means they think he is a true number one elite guy. And for the Panthers to turn down what they no doubt had to turn down from the Rams, you know that they think that too. And I think to me that kind of puts it in a little bit of a different light as far as like how highly thought of a prospect he was. I. I love that clip.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I do too. I appreciate all the teams giving us access. You know, this is like why Hard Knocks kind of lost. Lost its luster because all the team social and digital content teams are giving us access to that we've never seen before. Watching the four power players of the Carolina Panthers make the decision in real time on what they're doing. Obviously watching it back, but you get it. That was beautiful. And if you're a tepper, hey, that was awesome to watch. Right Track, like that's a lot of trust. That's like a lot of trust. If.
Shams Charania
And I think that's where like, you know people talk about owners meddling, which I hate that term because they are the owners. Like, like they should do whatever they want really.
Pat McAfee
Agreed. That's what I was about to say. If I'm tepper sitting there and we're doing that whole song and dance and I'm like canal, how do you feel? He's like, I love T. Mac Morgan, you could tell wanted T. Mac, he's general manager of the team. And then we're waiting for Brant Tillis. Okay. Who important. I agree. Very, very important. But watching them all just kind of let them do their thing and then like process it and get to the end. It's like that seems like a very sound operation that feels like what the Carolina Panthers were considered two years ago, year and a half ago.
AJ Hawk
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Complete opposite. And from just that clip and feels like it's going to work out good for them. Go ahead, A.J. yeah.
Michael Cole
Ian Frank Ragnow announced his retirement after seven season from the Detroit Lions. Did you know this was coming to the Lions?
Ty Schmidt
No.
AJ Hawk
It was coming.
Michael Cole
I assume they had an idea and like, how do you. You know, was it one injury that put him over the top that he was unable to come back for? We listed all the different things this guy has played through.
Shams Charania
Yeah. I mean, first of all. Well, let me get to your. Your question first. The Lions knew was coming that, you know, he's been absent from OTAs. I think there was some, like, does he want a new contract? Like, the lines knew he was weighing. Should he play? My understanding yesterday was he was truly broken up about it. Like, this is a warrior. Like, I remember two years ago, maybe last year. I think it was two years ago, I got word that he had had suffered a serious injury. I believe it was a rotator cuff. Something that obviously is a guy's out for the season. So, you know, I kind of get ready, I make some calls and I talk to somebody close to him, and I'm talking to lion sources and they're like, hey, hang on. Like, don't report that. I'm like, okay. But like, obviously, you know, it's serious. And they're like, it's Frank Rag now. Like, he wants to come back and play. And like, for any other player, not any other player, but a lot of other players, I'd be like, okay. And like, he came back and played in four weeks, and, I mean, that's what he was like. I mean, this guy was like the heartbeat of one of the NFL's best offensive lines. So they knew. I think he knew. He's been through so much. He's played through so much. It seems like his body was just like, it's time. But this was, as people might say, a dog.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, absolutely. Congrats, Frank. Hell of a career. When people think your name, they think of a guy who's tough and played the game right. And you're obviously there for the transition from the old Lions to the brand new Lions, so just kind of epitomizes everything the city's about, I think. Foxy. Yeah. 100% the epitome of a Detroit football player. Tough, gritty, always showed up, played for his teammates. The fans loved him. Everything you wanted in a football player, Frank Ragnow, was that we appreciate him so much. Definitely going to miss him this year. That's going to be tough. Yeah. And also, old Lions would have asked him for 10 million bucks back. Yeah.
Matt Vogt
Yes.
Pat McAfee
True. Brand new lion say, hey, we'll celebrate you. Probably. If I had to guess, if I. She Ford Hamp is doing things a little bit. Put him in the ring of honor immediately. He Deserves it. Yeah, have him. Kid Rock, Eminem. Yep.
AJ Hawk
Oh.
Pat McAfee
Tim Robinson. Posner put him up. He didn't go through those shitty days to retire unless it was something super serious. So I'm bummed for him, but very happy for his career and I hope he's doing good in retirement. I think he's even going to say like, poser, bury me in Detroit, didn't he? Oh, yeah, he'll say that. And he loves fishing, so he's going to be listening to a lot of. He'll be just fine.
Shams Charania
I mean, his whole Instagram is like hunting and fishing. Like I'm. I mean, I went to check because I had heard that he was going to post a statement. You want to try to be respectful and hope guys kind of do it the right way. No, I'm serious.
Pat McAfee
So, like, you know, you.
Shams Charania
You wait till he hits 10. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Sentence out there.
AJ Hawk
Finally.
Pat McAfee
Jesus. I've been sitting on this for two days, Frank.
Shams Charania
Or two weeks or four weeks or whatever.
Pat McAfee
It doesn't matter. Oh, you're so kind, Rap. Isn't he so kind?
Shams Charania
I thought so too.
Pat McAfee
To your point, though, of what you just said about how good of a human you are. Rap definitely knew about my retirement. Rap was. Rap was a part of my retirement press conference that was pretty pre recorded, you know, and then four hours later, Rap didn't think I was worth it. So he just said, yeah, sure, nobody will say anything about this. And then he just moved along. And I, I respect that out of you.
Shams Charania
I wonder, I wonder how many, I wonder how many clicks, how many retweets on it got.
Pat McAfee
Have you ever looked on my.
Shams Charania
Because I had the initial tweet that you retired when it finally aired.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I'd say probably 15 to 20 of them. Who knows? I mean, that was a long time ago.
Shams Charania
That was a long time. I didn't even have a picture. I'll have to.
Pat McAfee
There wasn't going on that super bowl week, though I do remember that my retirement became like a. A thing. It happening on Comedy Central is also quite a moment.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You know, hey, guy retires from football on Comedy Central with barstool up there. I think a lot of people thought it was a joke, you know, like, why would this idiot punter retire? It was like, you know what? I think it's time. And boy, there was a couple times I thought it was a stupid decision. I will say, you know, as we're really starting, I was like, oh, yeah. There's been numerous moments that popped up early there that I was like, what am I doing? Why am I doing this? This is so, so much work. Everything is so much work. But then obviously in the end, can't be the guy that retired early, made a big stink out of it, and then failed, you know, good morning. So that can't happen. So had to get a good group of people around me and we had to continue to put the nose to the grindstone, just like we know Frank Ragnow will in whatever he chooses to do. Is he going to be one of these Ironman offensive lines lineman guys? It goes down to like 185. Yeah. I actually saw a comment on his Instagram. One of the boys on the team said, hey, I can't wait to see you nice and skinny in the off season. So that'll be awesome then. Rap sheet. One more thing on that note. Have you known about this long enough? They definitely drafted the guard out of Georgia for this reason, knowing they had to replace him.
Shams Charania
I don't know. I've known about it for a couple weeks. I don't know that they specifically knew about it that long, but that makes sense. Sense to me.
Pat McAfee
Like, oh, you knew, but the Lions didn't? Sure.
Shams Charania
No, no, no. I. I don't. I don't. What I mean is, I don't know that they knew Draft was like two months ago or, I don't know, whenever it was one month ago, a month and a half ago, whatever it was.
Pat McAfee
I couldn't even.
Shams Charania
I mean, it seems like a million years ago.
AJ Hawk
On Thursday, it'll be five weeks, I believe.
Shams Charania
All right, so I don't know that they knew for five weeks, but like, he played through so much. They had to know that it wasn't going to be forever. So, like, I don't know if they specifically drafted him to replace him, but they knew that a replacement was necessary at some point.
Pat McAfee
Perfect. Let's head down to Duvall.
Darius Butler
Yeah, Jacksonville. I want to ask you a couple questions about some players down there. First of all, Travis Etienne, a running back, had a dynamic first couple years, but kind of fell off a little bit. Is he available for trade to other teams? And then a Travis Hunter update. What have you been hearing about him down in OTAs?
Shams Charania
All right, so. So ETN, you know, he. He was available and sort of subjective trade rumors. Last year, last regime. It doesn't feel the same to me. And I feel like this new regime is more like, like, let's get him in here. Let's see if he can be the productive back that he has been. And hopefully again, they have some. They have some good backs there. They have some guys who have. Have really flashed. But it feels to me like more so than, like, let's see what we can get in the trade. It's more like, like, let's see if we can make use of this really, really good talent now. You know, you get to the trade deadline next year in October, and it's not happening. Like, maybe then. But I don't get the sense they really are going into training camp wanting to trade him. As far as Travis Hunter, I mean, seems like it's been really good. You know, it just. It seems like it's been really good. He sort of alternated a little bit between offense and defense. Try not to overload him. Try not to get him to do too much, but, like, a lot of juice, a lot of energy. Kind of infectious. You know, you can sort of see this guy being. You know, I was gonna say defensive face, but I don't even know if it's on defense. Just one of the faces of the franchise very, very quickly. Just like a magnetic personality. And as a player, I don't exactly get the sense that Jags, like, well, we overestimated, like, I think it's gonna be really good.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Stoner said, this is a state statement about the opportunity that we have here. Down in Jacksonville the day after drafting Travis Hunter, one of the greatest promos I've ever heard from a football general manager on why they did the move that they made. But you're talking about if you can bring juice to that city, they're going to be through a lot. They got a whole new stadium. They got. I mean, there's a lot coming down the pipe in Jacksonville. Feels like Liam Cohen, Stoner, Travis Hunter and Trevor Lawrence hopefully are in it for the long haul. Good luck to everybody down there in Jacksonville. And ETN being a very available. Hold the phone. Yeah, hold the phones.
Darius Butler
Or maybe not. Rap. She kind of made it sound like, hey, we'll see what we've got.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Rap gave the classic.
AJ Hawk
Don't buy into this.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I believe.
Michael Cole
Trying to drive interest.
Pat McAfee
I believe. Yeah, he is. He's trying to run up clicks. This guy's just clicks.
Shams Charania
I do like my clicks.
Boston Connor
He did that last. He did that last week.
Pat McAfee
Hey, you asked about the clicks on the tweet that you put out about my retirement. I think it had. Oh, yeah.
Shams Charania
How do I do?
Pat McAfee
5.1 1000 retweets. That was before. What? Yeah, it's a lot of retweets. Feels pretty big. Wow. Only Two bookmarks. I don't know if that bookmark was around back.
AJ Hawk
It was not.
Shams Charania
Who bookmarked it?
Ty Schmidt
Just to keep it.
Shams Charania
Was that you?
Pat McAfee
No, I did not. To be clear, I didn't know that you put this tweet out until you reminded me of it right here. I thought, look at the time. 12:25am yeah, it was late night, brother. We were having a good time down there in Houston. I mean, I couldn't get into the restaurant. I couldn't get into the restaurant to do the thing. I didn't have the proper band. I was outside in line to get in before the announcement was about to make. Like 10 minutes before it couldn't get in. Had to call somebody that come get me in. I was like, thank you, Jesus Christ. And then I'm sitting on stage 10 minutes later, and then a couple minutes after that, I'm standing next to PFT as we're signing now. And maybe that was the next day. PFT goes, hit me in the balls as hard as you can. And I'm like, what? Bang. I mean, it was a full on. It was the great. You did it.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah, absolutely. Right as the show ended. Cut to black, right?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, as soon as it did there and I'm like, pft, this dude is a genius. Absolute. I love this man. That old bar store. I learned so much about. So much. And it started with an Ian Rapport tweet. Wow. That's what I'm learning. Wow. What an honor.
AJ Hawk
History.
Pat McAfee
What an honor for all of this. Okay, let's move to some other moves that are potentially happening right now. Tone has a question for you about his beloved Steelers.
Boston Connor
Yeah, rap a couple things about the Steelers. In a shocking, shocking turn of events, I saw a report today that Steelers are not considering trading for John Smith. Now, that was a. That was a shocking turn of events there to see that. Never could have called that one. And then there was a report also that Gabe Davis. Davis is visiting the Steelers. That one actually does make some sense. What's the situations there?
Shams Charania
Yeah, so the Steelers have been over the last couple weeks. You know, it's hard to find players now. Like, honestly, a lot of the really good ones are gone. The ones who aren't are older guys who are kind of taking their time and not in a hurry or just out there for a reason. Gabe Davis is a little different. Was cut late. So like a good player who is available and really cheap, like, unbelievably cheap because he's due so much guaranteed money in Jacksonville that it's complicated, but basically, like, no team could give him enough money to make it make sense. So he's going to play for the minimum.
Boston Connor
Russ Wilson, wherever.
Shams Charania
Yes, exactly. Wherever he goes, he's going to play for the minimum. That's an amazing deal. The Steelers have been looking for not a tight end, per se, but another target like John Smith, like, I would imagine Kyle Pitts, Gabe Davis makes sense. Like, they've been looking for someone else and he is really, really taking his time. But this, this would make a ton of sense. And, like, the feel I get from the Steelers is like, kind of loading up, you know, like doing like, all the resources, all the spots, everything you can. Obviously there could be a quarterback there at some point, hopefully soon, maybe before the end of the summer. But that's what it feels like, kind of loading up to get to make one more run at it.
Pat McAfee
On that note, Ty has a question for you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Rap sheet. Any. Any update on the Aaron Rodgers situation? I mean, everyone just assumes he's going to pick.
Pat McAfee
What are the Steelers saying to you?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, because as each day passes, it kind of seems like, like, there's a chance he's not gonna go there. And then if that were to happen, like, would they look at Kirk Cousins or like, what, What. Where are we at right now with Rod Dodgers and the Steelers?
Shams Charania
We're sort of unfortunately where we were, which is them giving him. He's dealing with his personal stuff, them giving him his time, them hoping and believing that he is going to join them and be their quarterback, but not 100% knowing. And I think it's, you know, it's crazy, but, like, there's been nothing to kind of push that now. This time next week or. Yeah, this time next week when the Steelers are mandatory minicamp, maybe it changes. That might be interesting. And that would be a time when it would make sense for him to go in, sign if he's gonna sign, get his playbook, go home for the summer, Everything's good. Yeah. I mean, and look, so that's my thought that makes the most sense, but it is Aaron Rodgers, so I would literally rule nothing out.
Pat McAfee
Okay, well, whenever you find something out, let us know. Okay, that'd be nice if we get a little piece of information from your side, because we're not hearing anything from AJ's side either, so we don't get a chance to really hold on.
Shams Charania
He's here, we're just not. He's not sharing with the class. It's circle time and AJ's not sure.
Pat McAfee
Agreed. That's kind of what he does in this situation. But I would assume that AJ would say, I don't know if anybody really knows what's going on with that whole deal.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Michael Cole
Ian, when you said he could sign by next week because of that mandatory minicamp, is that just your personal opinion or are you hearing something from Steelers brass that maybe follow up question?
Shams Charania
I'm not hearing anything from the Steelers.
Pat McAfee
Is what AJ just said. Is this you just making up another dead rap? What's the.
Shams Charania
Let's be clear. This is my. Well, I've been playing a lot of golf anyway, but this is my personal hope. So just so we're clear, like I would love. I'll tell you the best case scenario for me. First of all, I break it. That would be really good. Second of all, I am in my studio ready to go on TV and talk about it. Because that would be really good if I'm like somewhere not available or like phone service is bad like that. Yeah, I mean that's. You know, I'll be paying very close attention whatever happens because you got to make sure you're ready for tv because that's a pretty big. Pretty big thing.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Now that you're. Now that you said that to this thing. He's gonna follow along with your life.
Boston Connor
Just pre tape it.
Pat McAfee
Oh, he's at the. He's at the Harry Potter Awards Museum or something. Were you at the PEZ dispenser factory?
Shams Charania
PEZ Museum was great. They did a great job. I actually gotta reload. We got. We left with buckets of Pez, but we've since, you know, eaten all the pez, so we need more pests.
Pat McAfee
Really? Who's doing that? Because don't you send your kids out of the house for six months or whatever. So that's you. And they.
Shams Charania
They eat beforehand. They crushed candy. All they do is eat candy. It's terrible.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Ty Schmidt
Jesus.
Pat McAfee
Send them to the woods. Eat candy.
Boston Connor
Same. It's.
Pat McAfee
Kids are gonna be chill.
Ty Schmidt
Goddamn rules in that house.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Rat Rapper for Come on.
Shams Charania
No, there are rules. No, I'll give you.
Pat McAfee
They saw you not go up the bump and they said, I'm all listening to this guy.
AJ Hawk
No chance.
Pat McAfee
That's what they said. This guy's throwing from the grass in front of the mound.
Ty Schmidt
Okay.
Pat McAfee
That's what they said. I saw Max and Jude said, how can I take you serious, dad? You threw for the grass with a mask on. That's what they said.
Shams Charania
They were so. No, I don't think they cared, actually. I mean, this is like, they were just like, all right, good job. That was it.
Pat McAfee
What are the end we love you rap. There's some more contract conversations happening.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Ramsey, what's going on with all the rookies? I believe basically everyone has signed with a few guys still not signed yet. But the big one being Shemar Stewart seeming to have no end in sight with the Bengals. Is that still the case? And is Trey Hendrickson looking at this like. I mean, you're gonna. You're not gonna pay me. Why don't we just cut this guy and give me all the money?
Shams Charania
First of all, there are, I think, all the. I think all the top 10. Most of the top 10 guys have signed, except for Patriots and Jags. Travis Hunter is going to be. That'll be interesting. That might. That might take a bit. We'll see. It's just. There's some. It's complicated. Yeah. I mean, like, I. There's. I would be surprised if there's a holdout. There's almost never holdouts, but that just might take a minute. As far as the Shamars do it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Shams Charania
I mean, it's. It's my understanding it's a language issue, and the fact that he's not practicing is kind of the thing that gets me. And it sounds like there's a language issue as far as what he might sign in the waiver, because, like, not the contract, but just the waiver to make sure he's covered if something happens while he's practicing without a contract. It's weird, I have to say. Almost never. Have you seen this? It's just, you know, it's. It's annoying because, like, it should be all buttoned up, but instead, here we are talking about it in June. He's still not practicing, and I don't know if that's beneficial for anybody involved.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. But, you know, there's some business angle that is smarter than everybody else in the history of the NFL, you know, sure. Somebody's got to figure it out. Somebody's got the game figured out. And with Cincinnati Bengals, you know, the business conversation, whenever you try to take angles. They don't love that. No, not at all. What's going on with Trey is that it was. So is that even still a thing over there? What's going on? What about T.J. quiet. Why is that even a conversation going on?
Shams Charania
Yeah, that is a conversation going on. I know that the.
Pat McAfee
The. Mark reported some things of the Pat show, and WWE contributor Mark, he said that Steelers made an offer to TJ Watt. There is currently there in the middle of negotiations, basically.
Shams Charania
That's true.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Shams Charania
I. I think that they think they would like to get it done. It doesn't sound like they're particularly close or imminent. And like the Steelers, because of the way they do things, a lot of teams have deadlines at like, the start of training camp is sort of like impetus for a deal because the Steelers cut off negotiations right when the season starts. Like, deals do not happen during the season for the Steelers. Sometimes it can mean, like, right up against the start of the season is when deals get done. We've seen a couple, like, Saturday before the season deals for the Steelers. I don't know that this is going there, but I just know it doesn't feel like there is anything like, imminent or urgent. I just know he's really good. He deserves more money. That market has gone crazy and he should get his share of it. It's just sort of unclear right now how much of that share but he's going to get. And obviously Micah still out there as well. I know Brian Schottenheimer was saying today expects Micah to show up for mandatory minicamp. I would expect that too. Players don't give up guaranteed money anymore. But that's. You know, those are two outstanding contract issues.
Pat McAfee
All right, well, we'll follow along on at Rap Sheet on X. And I believe you're also on Instagram. And we found the. The. The angle of your throw, it was cute. You and your wife were just having a catch basically at. Look at that.
Michael Cole
It's good ball.
Shams Charania
I mean, that's a strike.
Pat McAfee
That's.
Shams Charania
That is a strike, basically.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Lefty swings at that maybe, you know.
Shams Charania
Yeah, no, we're not doing that.
Ty Schmidt
That's not a strike.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, lefty, that, I think, because it was a sinker. You see it?
Boston Connor
Oh, no.
Pat McAfee
Not even on the mound. Yeah, same thing. Can you go back to that pitch there? That thing was quite. That thing went from 12 to 6. You go back to the beginning. Can we get the circle change?
Shams Charania
Look how big my jersey is. I've since upgraded with a better jersey.
Pat McAfee
Watch this thing go. Look at that break off right there. I think at the end.
Boston Connor
Was it knuckleball wider?
Shams Charania
That was. There was more of a change piece kind of outside corner for. Let a lefty swing over it.
Pat McAfee
Change piece.
AJ Hawk
First base mitt on.
Pat McAfee
You're the best.
Shams Charania
No, catcher. Catcher's mitt.
Pat McAfee
Catcher.
Boston Connor
That's worse.
Pat McAfee
Pop time. Pop. Pop time. Pop time. You're the best. Ladies and gentlemen, Ian Rapper Board. He's the greatest. I just got A text from somebody that said, how do you guys do this without football? This is every day. Yes, it is. When. Yes, it is. Let me tell you how we do it.
Boston Connor
Open a prayer.
AJ Hawk
When Rap was speaking about the Rogers thing, I almost had to take my ears out.
Pat McAfee
Me too. Yeah, I was about done with talking about it. Same answer. There was no new answer in there for three months. Three. And AJ AJ Trying to just figure out what. What are the Steelers leaking out? So I know what I'm allowed to kind of talk about in this entire thing. It's interesting, it's fascinating. You know, I did see Mr. Rooney, I did see Omar Khan yesterday. Did not feel like it was the right time to get, you know, all the answers. Sure would have been cool if they would have gave them to me though. Wouldn't have been cool.
Darius Butler
That would have been very cool.
AJ Hawk
Was it cool to see all your like old teammates you play with?
Pat McAfee
It was great to see. Edge gave a speech. Great speech. Yes, Edge gave a great speech. Great. He's followed a very serious speech. So like Edge's placement of speeches. Whenever we were looking through the itinerary in this. I don't know what this is called. The program, I guess. Yeah, the program. Whatever it is, as we were looking through it, saw Edge was giving a speech, didn't know who the two people ahead of him were. And one person got sick, I think like the morning of or day before. So they subbed somebody in. So did not know who was speaking. Very good, very serious speech right before Edge. And then Edge went up there and.
Ty Schmidt
Just brought the House. House down.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Absolute home run. It was great to see him. Ty. Great to see Ty. Chuck Bruce were there.
AJ Hawk
You said someone else gave a speech too, right? That was like, you know, Jim would want this to be a much more.
Pat McAfee
Pete Ward. Yeah, Pete Ward gave a speech. Cuz it was. There was a very serious speech right before Pete. And then Pete went up there and was like, Jim would want this to be a celebration, so I'm going to try to do that. And told some stories about how. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. When Covid happened and you know, central Indiana here, all the restaurants were like about to shut down. So he sent Pete Ward, he said, I want to give $1,000 to every restaurant in central Indiana. And Pete goes, excuse me, every. He said, we need to figure out a plan to get a thousand dollars in cash to all these restaurants so they can at least make it another month. And then I guess Jim said, what is there like 155,200 restaurants or whatever. I guess there was 550 or something like that.
Darius Butler
Like thousands.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, thousands. I'm sorry, like thousands of restaurants. And he was like, I don't even know how. How are we going to get the money there, but figure we'll do something. And then I guess he backed off it a little bit. Then he found an X contest to give away like 200, 300 restaurants a bunch of money to pay for their bills. Then when the Maui.
Darius Butler
Hawaii.
Pat McAfee
Maui fires happened, he was like, we need to figure out how to get envelopes of money to these people, all of them. And then whenever Pete went back to him with an amount of people that are potentially. I don't know how we're going to get it to all those logistics. Yeah, the logistics. Like everything Jim heard about, literally that was the big thing yesterday. Like, everything Jim heard about was like, I got to help. Like, that is literally takate.
Michael Cole
I mean, Takate is the prime example. He's going to fly. He's going to build a. Or get a plane to fly a whale across the country.
Pat McAfee
$20 million he was about to spend to flip a bomber plane into an aquarium to have a killer whale flown from Miami to Seattle. That's the longest possible American flight that you can have. The longest possible one to get talkeday back to her family up there in the free waters of Washington. You know, this is a Buddhist whale, man. Talkay lays low. I heard about her. She's stuck in this thing. Should she be stuck in this thing? Absolutely not. We need to figure out a way probably to Pete Ward need to get this. This whale Miami to Washington. And then Pete goes. I think we could take one of these bomber planes and make it in a quick. Love it, brother. Let's go ahead and do that. I mean, it was just like one of those stories after another. Like everybody there was just like, Jim heard about blah, blah, blah, and decided to give everybody their 10,000 bucks and told them not to tell anybody because of all the defer. Like the amount of people that he has helped, I don't think would ever. You can ever. Nobody will ever know. Like, you'll never know. And that was what yesterday was. It was celebration of music. It was a celebration of giving back. And it was also morning alongside a family that is now in control of an NFL team. And I think they're going to do an incredible job. It was a beautiful day celebrating Jim.
Darius Butler
Beautiful.
Pat McAfee
It really was. It was great to see everybody. We'll continue digitally, YouTube, ESPN Plus, Disney plus and tick tock Live tomorrow we'll be live from Cary, North Carolina. Goodbye. It's gonna be good to get down there. It's gonna be so. It's gonna be as hot as it.
Ty Schmidt
Was last year, I believe so.
AJ Hawk
That's what they're saying.
Boston Connor
80S I think I saw.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Last year was so, so hot.
Ty Schmidt
Humid, humidity.
Michael Cole
Not used to the humidity.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I'm bummed out. I'm not going to be able to play, you know, cuz I got body. Upper body.
Michael Cole
You got know, you might get out there, you might start feeling good though once.
Pat McAfee
I don't even think I have cleats.
Ty Schmidt
You're not bringing boots?
Pat McAfee
I don't think I have cleats.
AJ Hawk
You got extra.
Boston Connor
What about from last year? You got boots from last year?
Michael Cole
Some gumps. You can borrow gums.
Pat McAfee
So I think in bus there is a pair of cleats. Okay. That's literally the only hope I have at this point because I went through. I have, I have some. My cause. My cleats.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Paints that are at the house for the brand I have.
AJ Hawk
Right.
Pat McAfee
That was Jake Bailey who did that. Oh. Shout out to him. I had wish for our heroes I believe was my brand. It was, it was a good paint job. I mean it was good cause and then there were some other military ones. So those are like at the house. Those are the only cleats I have. Which is crazy because when I was kicking I had like maybe 50 pairs of cleats. Playing soccer growing up, just the amount of cleats that just kind of gathered. So literally like two days ago, I was like, all right, what if I do feel I can get out there and just do one pass? Just like a quick bang and a bow. How you doing? I was like, all right, where are my cleats? Don't. Not even, don't even have a pair of. I'm like, God damn, I'm an old man.
Boston Connor
We could run to a dicks down there.
Pat McAfee
So I.
Darius Butler
You a brand new cleat guy can't.
Boston Connor
Get red ones, I can tell you that.
Pat McAfee
But I, I don't love the brand new cleats. I'm not going to be wearing red boots. Don't you worry about. There's only one. Red boots.
Boston Connor
Exactly.
AJ Hawk
Gold boots perhaps.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. But the brand new ones, like I, my feet are so like built up. Like it wouldn't ruin it, but it would be so uncomfortable.
Ty Schmidt
What about like zat knight? Do you think he has an extra pair?
Boston Connor
I'm sure some of the boys.
Pat McAfee
Somebody asked me, you are a pair of Le 11. I was like, I'm a 12. How about an 11? I'm like, well, I told you my size, so you probably. Yes. 11's probably gonna be a little small. Like, I could wear 11. Gonna be real tight. Okay, how about an 11? It's like, 12 would be much better, but.
Michael Cole
Yeah, I could bring you some 12s. I can bring you some 12. Football cleats.
Pat McAfee
Can't wear football cleats. Because that spike in the front, brother.
Michael Cole
Can we sell it off.
Pat McAfee
That illegal people did used to try to run it down, down. That was a way back. Like youth. I think it's the baseball has the front cleat.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah. Metal, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Football has the front cleat. Not allowed to have the front cleat.
Darius Butler
Okay.
Pat McAfee
That's like the big turf.
Michael Cole
What's the re. What's the reason?
Pat McAfee
I don't know. I assume there's some sort of health or safety thing. Yeah, I have no idea.
AJ Hawk
Stepping on toes.
Pat McAfee
But also, I didn't love the front one too. Kind of caught, you know, especially with soccer, everything's about. Yeah, like, Mackenzie, she will definitely play soccer. Soccer. No matter if it's her best sport or not, she will play soccer just strictly because the feet, like, the control of your feet, like, I think it helps out a lot in that whole thing. And the cleats are a big part of that. What was it? Kangaroo leather? They started putting on those cleats. Yeah, that was the big top drawer.
Michael Cole
That's what they claim.
Pat McAfee
That was a big evolution. You can tell. You can tell by the feel if they're a kangaroo or not.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, sure.
Pat McAfee
I had to fake this last year. I had to fake. No, I'd knock off cleats last year.
Boston Connor
Yeah, we. Those were kangaroo.
Pat McAfee
That's. You can tell, dude.
AJ Hawk
That's what you want.
Pat McAfee
Don't be marks, dude. Kangaroo used to be the one. It had, like, a run, and I'm.
Michael Cole
Like, what, so just kill kangaroos to make soccer cleats?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Why is the kangaroo leather so much better than every other leather? And yeah, who found that out first? Who was like, all right, all right, you're dead, mate. Come here. You're gonna make your cleats outy. That's what they would say in Australia. There's a compliment. There's not a.
Michael Cole
Make some out of, like, lion skin or something?
AJ Hawk
Or gator.
Pat McAfee
That would be not good. You see, because the game, it looks sweet, though.
Ty Schmidt
Gator skin, boots.
Pat McAfee
Snake skin would be. Yeah, snake skins were like the boots I got. If I see Because I got these. Joey Flax.
Boston Connor
You should wear those.
Pat McAfee
Oh, can you just wear those? But.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah, there it is.
Pat McAfee
There's the front.
Matt Vogt
We'll sell that off.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Tim macfield.
AJ Hawk
His new. He's got a new shed. So it's. It's always good.
Pat McAfee
Tim built a gazebo in 10 days. Build a. Built a deck and a gazebo in about 10, dude.
AJ Hawk
It's awesome.
Pat McAfee
14 days. And then. Then he turned it into a shed because he's building other stuff out there. Put my caulking out here.
Michael Cole
He told me the boys play cards every day there. Said you play cards all the time.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Well, it's getting hard to go in there whenever. It's all Tim shit, you know, just kind of laying out all around the goddamn damn gazebo. He's just turning into another shed out there. It's like, tim, you built this beautiful gazebo. Let's not fill it up with.
AJ Hawk
There's a huge.
Darius Butler
Right there.
Pat McAfee
He's like, well, I'm building up bricks over here with you. I got the fire pit, and we want to paint. Don't we want to paint the bricks? Oh, and there's a little bit of a leak up here. You know how to get the caulking and gun out here? I was like, is that done? Yeah, I got it. Has it been leaking? Do we need the caulking out here? Do we need the whole thing? I could probably move it. I'll move it. I get what you're saying. Get what you're saying. It's like, just piling up. Became a shed quick. Yeah. Oh, yeah, it did. It's a beautiful gazebo.
AJ Hawk
It's. It's awesome.
Pat McAfee
I can't believe he built that in 10 days by himself.
Ty Schmidt
Through bad weather, too. Like, windy. Windy conditions, cold.
Pat McAfee
He's an absolute weapon. He's an absolute. Yeah. Right now he's doing a full. A full bathroom. He's renovating a full bathroom at the house.
Ian Rapoport
See how.
Pat McAfee
Full bathroom? Yeah. Actually, he was climbing in crawl space behind the bathroom, and he knocked the Internet completely out of the house. But obviously it wasn't his fault. They put that wire there, and it shouldn't have been there. I mean, it should have been somewhere else. It's in the crawl space. It's like, obviously that's where the wires are. He just crawls right over top of it. Sally, my mom goes, we lost everything. I can't believe they put it here. Oh, bathroom's gonna be unbelievable. Oh, yeah. I think he's getting one of those J.J. watt toilets. We were talking about this yesterday. That those skills you're talking about that your dad can do, My dad can. Like a lot of people can do that. Missed our generation. Like, we have no idea what the hell we're doing, dude.
AJ Hawk
We got YouTube, brother. We don't need to know that.
Pat McAfee
It's not the same. I didn't paid. I paid attention. Like Tim forced me to. Like, I know pretty good. Like, I change tire. I do all the, you know, all the power drill. Right. All that I can do it. I'm not like, proficient. Like, if you get me, you know, you give me a hammer in. Like, I'm gonna fucking hit my thumb. Okay. I'm gonna hit my thumb at least one time. If you. If you're asking me to do an entire project, thumb is gonna get banged at least twice, if I had to guess. Tim, though, just knows exactly the right piece, the right size. Oh, this is Phillips head, but it's fucking 2, 8 or something. Whatever quarter, whatever it is, he just knows that shit because they're in it. You're right. I don't think any generation after Tim's.
Darius Butler
Generation, they don't make them like that. They got. They got scar. Like my dad, he's got a little piece of stuff. Yeah, yeah. So they got scars from. But they know they have a very wide ranging set of skills.
Pat McAfee
It's unbelievable. Yeah, it is a good thing to be able to do.
Darius Butler
They don't like asking for help.
Pat McAfee
That'll.
AJ Hawk
You think we're bad? Just wait till this next generation with AI.
Pat McAfee
No, I think they're coming back around.
AJ Hawk
Oh, I see. I think AI is going to make everything so much easier.
Pat McAfee
You think they're getting lazy?
AJ Hawk
That they're gonna do less and less that those. Those common things like, you know, hammer and nail drill and all that stuff is gonna become like obsolete damage.
Pat McAfee
I will say forever. People should learn how to use a power drill. Yes. Okay. Because you're gonna at some point have to build something. And even if it's just kids toys these days, let alone IKEA or anything else, being comfortable with a power drill is a. A skill that everybody should have. I think personally saves your life and.
Ty Schmidt
Save you an hour on every one of those projects.
Pat McAfee
At least. Yeah, at least an hour.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Because if you're doing this one or this Allen wrench. Yeah. This one up underneath. You are in deep. That's a long afternoon, brother. Yes, that is a long afternoon.
Darius Butler
You build a dollhouse yet?
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Cool. Tim built one too. For MacKenzie was a gift. Yeah.
Darius Butler
That was.
Pat McAfee
Or that was your project forever. In my garage. I showed up, and there's just a house in my garage. I'm like, what? I can stand in this thing. My dad is. It's gift from McKenzie. I'm like, how long did it take you to build this thing? Two hours. It was easy. And then I see there's classic Tim McAfee. And there's a couple screws that are like.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Like two corners. True. Yeah, like two corners, you know, hold things together. I'm like, well. Well, I'm gonna saw that down. Don't worry. There's not gonna be any splinters. Don't worry about. I'm just saying that. Don't worry. It's like, tim, you're the best answer for everything. No doubt needed to happen. We'll figure it out. That is Tim McAfee through to a T. But there's gonna be some Tim McAfee in there. You know, there's gonna be some.
Michael Cole
Some character.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Some pizzazz. There's gonna be some. You're gonna know that Tim McAfee made it. Like, for instance, decades was building out here. There was a time where that thing was, you know, sure thing was downhill a little bit. It's like, Tim, like, yeah, you're building the deck, but that's not going to work. I'm balancing it. I'm lifting up the post here. Don't worry about it. And he did. And he did. And then we just cover that up.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
And it's in there. Perfect.
AJ Hawk
Nailed it.
Pat McAfee
Need those people around. Need more of those people. I think there's some young bucks that can still do it all. Hope so.
Ty Schmidt
That's what they're saying now. Like, going to trade school is, like, better than going to college.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Yeah. Cars, you know, like, I know all these electric cars and computer cars, but nuts and bolts at the end are gonna. Yeah, you know, there's gonna be that all the time, Let alone whenever you go in and they replace the battery. That's gonna happen. I think someday. They've been saying for that for, like, 10 years, where you pull in, pull battery, upload new battery, then you're off and running. Like, there's going to be a lot of lifts. The amount of lift all this. Always gonna have to be able to figure it out. Hopefully we're able to. Need a power drill, though.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Need a power drill. Do you bet you got a power drill? Oh, yeah. Connor doesn't have a power.
AJ Hawk
Oh, I have a power drill. I. I mean, I took woodworking in high school. I, I, that's half the battle.
Pat McAfee
What was that called? Shop class.
Ty Schmidt
Shop.
Pat McAfee
Shop. Got a shop. Homemade was like baking, cooking.
Boston Connor
We, we. So we sewed a bag and, Man, I never.
Pat McAfee
I don't think so.
AJ Hawk
You sewed a bag.
Boston Connor
We made in home or in shop. We made a birdhouse, and then in home ec, we sewed like, a tote bag, you know, it was like a tote bag.
Matt Vogt
It was kind of sweet.
Pat McAfee
I had a mama's camouflage, had a.
Matt Vogt
Big DX patch on it.
Pat McAfee
I took my gym clothes. Really? I don't think I ever finished mine, to be honest. Hindsight. Because, yeah, people did used to use them.
Boston Connor
Right.
Pat McAfee
These bags were, like, a good thing. Yeah. I couldn't do it. I couldn't figure out the.
Ty Schmidt
The wheel.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
So we had to make one of those chairs outside that. Or on deck chairs or whatever.
Pat McAfee
The leaners.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, the, the ones out.
Pat McAfee
You made that in shop class? Yep. All the saws and everything?
AJ Hawk
All of it, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Did you sand it down? Did you spray it?
AJ Hawk
Sand it, Spray it.
Ty Schmidt
Finished it.
AJ Hawk
Put. Put that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Nice lacquer on it. Put.
Boston Connor
Oh, goddamn lacquer.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you what, don't get into a lacquer conversation with Tim McVie. That was actually his profession for two years.
AJ Hawk
Well, then why didn't he do it outside? Because it rigs wood when it rings.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And also, who's spraying the damn weeds out there in the mulch? What happened? We got bamboozled.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Hey, we want some mulch. Perfect. We can put that down. No problem. Two days later, weed just grown up through all of them. No weed stopper in there.
Michael Cole
Can we put some premium. You gotta sprinkle some preen underneath that.
Pat McAfee
I thought that just came with the.
Michael Cole
Yeah, you would think if someone's doing.
AJ Hawk
It, common sense would tell you.
Boston Connor
Well, not that company.
Pat McAfee
That was a different company. That was a different. We'll never work with that company again. We got our OG company here that we need to work with.
Ty Schmidt
They're mowing a lot. They're mowing almost like two, six days a week.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, it's crazy.
Pat McAfee
I'm pretty worried about all of it. Sure. I show up here and they're here every day. I was here today. Losing his mind when I pulled in. I'm saying I don't.
Ty Schmidt
Their new base, he was on. He was on, like, the outside parking lot out there.
Pat McAfee
There's a lot of grass. He was pissed. Yeah, we got a lot of grass, a lot of weeds. I think maybe they're just saying it.
Boston Connor
Probably takes two days to weed whack this place.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but could you just kill the weeds? Can't you send something out there that's.
Boston Connor
You still got a weed whack? That's the grass. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but they're not. It. You. You see them? They're not. They're not doing. They're on there.
Ty Schmidt
They're kind of in the same strips every. Every day.
Pat McAfee
It looks good.
Ty Schmidt
It does. It does.
Pat McAfee
Feels like that might be an expenditure. It's a little bit up expense. That's a little bit too high. Yeah, but maybe it's not. That's why we're just kind of happy for what's going on.
AJ Hawk
It feels like a little bit of a hustle.
Pat McAfee
How's your teeth?
AJ Hawk
My teeth?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Feel good.
Pat McAfee
How's your teeth?
Ty Schmidt
I need to go to the dentist bad.
Pat McAfee
Good news, ladies and gentlemen. Joining us now is a man who is a dentist here in Indianapolis, Indiana. He's actually Nick Maraldo's dentist out here.
AJ Hawk
What?
Pat McAfee
In Indianapolis, Indiana? Wow. He's from Western Pennsylvania, which is also the home of the U.S. open. The U.S. open is at Oakmont in the east hills of Pittsburgh. This man just so happened to caddy at Oakmont whenever he was going to school to become a dentist out here in Indianapolis, Indiana. Now, ladies and gentlemen, yesterday, he is officially qualified to compete in the US Open. Dr. Matt Vogt. What's up, boys?
Ty Schmidt
What's going on, Doc?
Pat McAfee
What's going on, Doc? Thanks for joining us, brother.
Matt Vogt
Thank you for having me. This is. This is truly surreal. I don't even know what to say. It's been the biggest BLUR the last 12 hours or whatever it's been. If I look like I slept two hours last night, it's because I did sleep about two hours.
Pat McAfee
Hell yeah, brother. You're supposed to feel that way. You just qualified for the US Open while also being a full time dentist. Okay. And I know that maybe there might be a thought and you have not said this. I'm just saying that this happens in the world that we're in where it's like, I would like my golf game to be talked about. I'm not really worried about being a distraction for this entire thing, becoming a. A full time dentist. The amount of work. Okay, I understand that that dental school is. That's like med school. Like, you got to learn a lot more than just dentistry. So for you to be able to get your golf game to a point where you're able to qualify for the US Open while also Becoming a dentist, that is incredible. Hey, you should be very proud. That's not easy, brother. That's not easy at all. Let's talk about that. You played out here at Butler in Indianapolis, Indiana. I assume you went to the dentistry school downtown, downtown Indianapolis for IU to become a dentist. You stick around out here. How often do you get to play? How often are you practicing dentistry? And whenever you found out that you were going to the U.S. open, did you think to yourself, man, I should be a full time golfer at this case and fuck Nick Moraldo's teeth?
Matt Vogt
Yeah, Nick. I know Nick waved his hippo rights by telling everybody I'm his dentist. So, yeah, we take great care of Nick, you know, we're happy to do that for you guys too, you know.
Pat McAfee
Hell yeah.
Matt Vogt
But yeah, I mean, I'm a late bloomer, so, I mean, I, I played briefly at Butler. I quit to focus on school and really didn't pick the game back up again until 2018. Just kind of caught the bug. And, you know, I'm very blessed. I have a great team and a great practice where I, where I work, obviously I'm blessed to work with another doctor so I can kind of try to play in practice where I can. And you know, in dental school, no, there was very little golf going on in dental school because it's a grind. But, you know, you get off, you get out in the real world and fortunately you can find time here and there and it's just kind of grown year after year after year for the past, you know, seven years or so.
Pat McAfee
Late bloomer. Late bloomers. A beautiful thing, especially whenever you have knowledge from whenever you were a younger lad. Go ahead, Tone, who's from Plumborough, which is obviously right next to Oakmont.
Boston Connor
Yeah, Matt. I was also a Catti Oakmont for a summer. Unlike you, I didn't last six years. I got fired after one summer for getting too drunk one night, not showing up in the morning. And they said that doesn't happen here.
Pat McAfee
And that's why Oakmont's Oakmont.
Boston Connor
That's why Oakmont is Oakmont. You pay a lot to golf there. But how much does your time as a caddy there, will it help for this upcoming Open? I, I assume a lot of the guys who are out on tour, they're going to play a ton of pack practice rounds there and get to know the course. But being a caddy there, I like, I remember, I think it was like number two, where, like if there, if it's a new guest there or something like that you're like, oh, if you roll the ball up here instead of going at a straight line at the hole, it's much better. How much is stuff like that going to help you for the Open?
Matt Vogt
Yeah, it's gonna. It's gonna be huge. I think, like, this has already been such a circus. Just, like, it's been awesome the last, you know, half a day since I qualified. But just being able to go there and know that I, like, generally know what's going on on the golf course is going to be huge. But that being said, I've never played it in US Open conditions. In the videos and. And things that I've seen and what I've heard is that it's brutal. So, yeah, I hope it helps knowing the layout. But, yeah, man, it's U.S. open conditions. So I'm excited to just see, like, what the heck's going on out there. Try to get out there, you know, later this weekend and get things going.
Pat McAfee
It's a beautiful story, too. It's been chatted about and you got emotional when you were talking about, obviously, Oakmont is the best course in Western Pennsylvania, which is where you come from, and the U.S. open is on Father's Day weekend. You just lost your dad a couple months ago. Rest in peace, obviously, to Mr. Vote Absolute Dog. How do you think you're going to be able to balance all that legit? That's a lot. It feels like as a Western pencil Pennsylvanian playing at Oakmont in the US Open, that's a huge. That's a huge step, let alone all the other implications. How do you think you are going to prepare for that? Mentally?
Matt Vogt
Yeah, it's. I don't know, like, I blacked out yesterday. Honestly, like, I. I don't remember a dang thing, especially the second round. I think you just got to try to stay present. I mean, honestly, I bleed black and gold, boys. So, like, yesterday, I'm like, we're just trying to talk about anything but Oakmont and golf. Like, who. Who's the next Steelers quarterback? Who's going to coach the Penguins? Like, literally anything besides what's at stake. So we'll try to do a little bit of that in between shots and then just try to lock in, you know.
Pat McAfee
Did you get. Did you get the answer? Who's the next quarterback? No.
Matt Vogt
I was hoping you. You guys would tell me today, but.
Pat McAfee
No, no, we don't know. Ian Rapport doesn't know either. Means that he didn't say a single thing. Aj, this guy knows. Actually, AJ has a Question for you. And he knows the answer.
Michael Cole
Actually, unfortunately, I don't.
Pat McAfee
But.
Michael Cole
But, Doc, have you given any thought of what it's going to feel like when you step up on that first tee box on Thursday, your first round? We don't know who you're playing with yet, but do you know, like, how is that going to be? How are you going to, I guess, hone in? I'm.
Pat McAfee
I'm sure.
Michael Cole
So much adrenaline, maybe some nerves, like, how is that first shot going to go? And then after that, I would imagine, boom, we're off. Here we go. Let's go win.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Maybe blast them.
Matt Vogt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Matt Vogt
Yeah. I mean, I. I don't know what it's going to feel like. It's going to be one of the craziest moments of my life. I know that. And then I think the best thing you can do is just tee it up high and swing very, very hard. And just let it go. And just let it go. Because if you try to guide it, you know, it's Bad things happen. Just gotta. Just gotta let it go and honestly, just soak it up. Like, it's gonna be. No matter how I play, I hope I play great, but I think you just. I just gotta stay present and enjoy it. And I mean.
Pat McAfee
Yes.
Matt Vogt
Oakmont. Oakmont, Pittsburgh. It just means so much to me, guys. Like, it's just.
Pat McAfee
Just.
Matt Vogt
It's a dream come true. Honestly. It's just. I can't even believe it.
Pat McAfee
Being present is, I think, the most important part of anybody performing, let alone you for a lifetime moment here. This is something you'll talk about with the family for the rest of your life. Now, you said tee it up high, swing hard. Darius has a question for you.
Michael Cole
Yeah.
Darius Butler
I'm a fairly new golfer, just got to the game a couple years ago. I'm interested. What's in the bag? What type of clubs are you hitting? What driver? I see you got the Titleist hat on. What ball are you playing? Let me get some details.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What's your game like? What's your game like?
Matt Vogt
Yeah, yeah. It's a mishmash of brands and stuff. I mean, Titleist is awesome. They support me and I use a lot of their gear and. Titleist ball for sure. But, yeah, the rest of the bag is kind of a mishmash as far as game goes. I hit it a really long way. That's kind of my superpower. So just hit it a long way. Usually hit it pretty straight these days and find it and hit it again. I actually like, despite being taller and bigger than most golfers, I putt it really well. So, you know, if I can hit it long and straight and make some putts, like, that's kind of how it went yesterday, honestly. So that's. But hitting it a long way kind of sets everything up for me. That's what I try to do. Oh, yeah, fade.
Pat McAfee
You're a fader.
Matt Vogt
Yeah. Try to. Well, yeah, the key to hitting the key is when you try to fade it, you got to fade it.
Darius Butler
Boom.
Matt Vogt
And I'm still just a dentist during the day, so sometimes when I try to do that, I draw it, and that's when bad stuff happens.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so what are you doing, doc? What are you doing? Golf doctor. So I'm coming out of. I'm coming out of the pocket, right? I wanna. I wanna. I wanna come out of the slot right here. Right. That's what I'm looking to do. I saw the Kawashalo.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
The call a shallow swing on Instagram. I want to go here. I want to get my hands here, then to here. Then I want go. I want. I want the hipstack. I want. Want the hips to activate. And I'm coming out of the slot right out of the pocket, and then, bang, we're off and running. That's the golf swing dock. Or how do I fix my.
Matt Vogt
No, you got it. You got it. And you're. You're dialed. You're dialed. Well, we'll get you dialed.
Pat McAfee
We'll. We'll have to.
Matt Vogt
After this, all, you know, goes down. Let's get out. Let's play. We'll get you. We'll get you really dialed, and we'll.
AJ Hawk
We'll.
Boston Connor
We'll make some progress around here.
Pat McAfee
Where do you play at around here? That's a good question.
Matt Vogt
I play at Highland. Highland Golf and Country Club. It's awesome. It's, you know, off Michigan Road near Butler where we went to school. People there are awesome. The course is incredible. The support's amazing. They let me kind of do my thing as I prep and try to do this kind of stuff. It's. It's. It's awesome. So we'll get you out there.
Pat McAfee
How many swings have you had? Because I'm. I'm working on my, what, fourth, fifth swing here? Sure, sure.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I don't know if that's normal. Do you have a lot of different swings, or has this been how you've played your entire life?
Matt Vogt
Yeah, I mean, it's like light blue.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What happened when you late bloom? You just started making contact? Better What. What was it?
Matt Vogt
You know, you just work and you work and work and work, and then, like, sometimes things just start to click. You know, golf is so weird. So you have to, like, you have to suck sometimes for a while and fail a bunch until you don't suck and fail. Right. Like, it's just kind of how it goes. So, yeah, I couldn't really tell you. It's just, like, lots of hard work and honestly, so many great people around me to help.
Pat McAfee
Help.
Matt Vogt
You know, getting the body right here at the. At the fitness garage in Carmel. Like, all that stuff just kind of plays in and then one day. That's why golf is awesome sometimes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, golf is awesome sometimes. Other times it's terrible. Like, when I play and I have no fun because I can't hit the ball well. And then I did work on it. You remember last year? I worked on it. Yeah, I got worse. I got worse at the sports for you.
Darius Butler
Better.
Pat McAfee
Well, that's what he said. You gotta fail and fail and fail and fail. Fail. Who's another.
Michael Cole
Another swing change.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I think I need to do the kawas, Shala. I need to take that thing up. Up here. Do one. You've seen him. You seen him on Instagram, Doc.
Matt Vogt
Who are you talking about?
Pat McAfee
You.
AJ Hawk
You've never seen.
Pat McAfee
You would know. You would know.
Boston Connor
Got a baseball swing.
Pat McAfee
He's a hockey swing. Baseball. He got all the swings. I mean, the guy hits a draw per.
Matt Vogt
Yeah, no, I think you lost me. I don't know. My. My. I also have like, a. A thousand Instagram comments or whatever going on right now.
Pat McAfee
My.
Matt Vogt
I don't know what the heck's going on.
Pat McAfee
So we'll jump in. We will jump in there now. You're the man, Doc. You got to fix teeth and you got to win golf tournaments. That's a lot of pressure, especially in between the years. Ty has a question for you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Doc, if it was up to you, like, if you had your pick of the litter, obviously whoever you play with, it's going to be pretty sweet. But who would be, like, who are you hoping that you're maybe gonna get paired with? Like, I was hoping maybe, and obviously he didn't make it because, you know, his day. His day in the sun's done. But, like, seeing you play with Blocky and maybe you embarrassing him out there, like, that would have been sweet.
Pat McAfee
I don't think that is what. That is not how we all feel, Doc.
Ty Schmidt
That's not how everyone feels. I certainly feel that way that guy sucks, but he does.
Pat McAfee
No, he's good guy, good story. He got throw thrusted in the spotlight in a hole in 12 of them.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, without a doubt. Is he playing at Oakmont next weekend? No, he's not. And you know who is? The doc is. And. And he said he's a late bloomer. That guy's been doing it his whole life, so. But. But anyway, Doc, that's neither here or there. Here or there. Who would you like to be paired with? Like, if you could just pick anyone from the field.
Matt Vogt
That's a great question. I. I honestly, I would love to. Like, I have modeled a ton of my game off Bryson. What he does. He. He broke the mold, right. And. And kind of broke golf for a while with how far he hits it, how he putts. It. We put.
Pat McAfee
We.
Matt Vogt
We both arm lock, putt it, right. With straight arms. I would love to do that. I would love to see, you know, who can hit it farther. He's probably got me right now, but it would be closer than a lot of people.
Pat McAfee
Whoa, Whoa. Yeah. So you hit bomb bombs. You, you. It. Because DeChambeau murders golf balls. It's like what he's known for, right? Is he. He actually had to create new clubs because he's hitting the golf ball too hard and too far. You're saying. Obviously, we're not putting you in a spot to say this, but you hit the ball. Like, you're saying, like, I murder golf balls. That is your style of golf, correct?
Matt Vogt
Correct.
Ty Schmidt
3:30 plus off the tee, or what are we talking here?
Darius Butler
You carry it.
Matt Vogt
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
So.
Matt Vogt
So yesterday, final hole, little downwind, firm. I can't feel my hands. I might puke. I'm just like, let's swing hard. And I think I popped it about 380 downwind, downhill. So that was a good one.
Pat McAfee
All right. Let's go get this US Open, dog. Yeah, let's go get this open. Congratulations and good luck. And with your knowledge of the area, Tone has the last question.
Boston Connor
Yeah, I do.
Pat McAfee
Our.
Boston Connor
Our good friend Frank Ferco, he passed away. They sold his lot. Pudgy Wudgy the cat sign was out. Out front there. They built a brand. Brand boot. Beautiful. Brand new sheets there. You're gonna be hitting up the sheets before the round to kind of calm the nerves.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What's the mto?
Matt Vogt
Yeah, absolutely. That sheets. That sheets is a. Is a mainstay, you know, many, many a time, you know, hanging out at pit, going out, you know, sleeping on my buddy's couches. And then getting up to go caddy in the morning, we. We freak. That sheets is a great spot. So, yes, absolutely. I need to go. I need to go taste the local fair like I used to.
Pat McAfee
Absolutely.
Matt Vogt
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
See, you woke up for the tee time because you were committed to life. Guy became a doctor and also a professional golfer. Tone saw that tee time coming that the guy paid 5,000 bucks for and said, sorry about it, bud. Fuck.
Ty Schmidt
That guy carry his own clothes.
Pat McAfee
We had some booze.
Boston Connor
Someone's gonna get a double bag today. And that caddy was super pumped about it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, certainly. Yeah. Double the tip. Double the tip. Yeah.
Matt Vogt
Yeah, he wasn't. He wasn't mad about his double bag. I guarantee that.
Pat McAfee
Hey, we appreciate the hell out of you, Doc. Good luck and safe travels back here.
Matt Vogt
Thank you so much, guys. This is like a unbelievable moment in my life. I still feel like I'm going to wake up tomorrow and this is going to be all of a dream. So thank you all. I love the support. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Thank you.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's a wild scene. I mean, you're from western Pennsylvania area. You live out here so close to us that you're actually one of our guys, Dennis. And then you qualify for the U.S. open at Oakmont. It's like. It's a wonderful set of coincidences. Speaking of, I do have an appointment next Wednesday. I should probably call, reschedule that, huh? Yeah. What's that all about? What about his teeth? Yeah, yeah.
Matt Vogt
No one see me here the next couple weeks, guys. Sorry about that. I gotta. I got some. Some stuff to do here.
Pat McAfee
All right, sounds good. Give yourself.
Matt Vogt
Sorry, Nick.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Give yourself some laughing gas. Nick will continue. Just go in, brother. You should see the stuff he eats in here. Yeah, you should see the stuff he eats. Like the sugar, man.
Matt Vogt
We talked about this.
Pat McAfee
He eats the sugar candies that actually deteriorate your teeth. I think that is kind of like you got a sweet tooth. I told him. Yeah, but I'll drink. I'll drink the whole thing of chocolate milk and milk right before bed. It's calcium. It's good for my teeth. Right? Yeah.
Matt Vogt
Guy needs business too, though, you know?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you're right.
Matt Vogt
This guy's gonna mount Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew is always going to be around, and so we'll always be able to help some people, you know, fix their issues and smile a bit better. So. Nick, come on, man. You gotta figure it out, brother.
Pat McAfee
You're a good man, Doc. And I think you're very close to my house, which is good news. Maybe I get in there and get. You guys got a laughing gas in there?
Matt Vogt
We do if you need it. If you got some nerves, you know, let's. Let's get it. Let's get it. We'll get your teeth fixed up. We'll get your game fixed up. You're. You're set with me, man. We'll do it.
Pat McAfee
I like that laughing gas before. Around. Yeah, that's probably the right play. That's not a bad idea. You're the man. Ladies and gentlemen, in the US Open next weekend at Oakmont, Dr. Matt Vogt. AJ Hawk
That's a big ball.
Pat McAfee
He needs.
Michael Cole
He needs to set up right next to Bryson on the range, like, starting Monday and just swing as hard as he can, just. Just to try to get like. Like, just create some buzz.
Pat McAfee
I appreciate him saying, I modeled a lot of my game after DeChambeau because DeChambeau is what, taking, like, super analytical, statistical.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Like, view of one. Of one. So vote. Vote. Doctor. Yeah, right. Dennis. Like, okay, if I could do it makes sense what DeChambeau says. I've never heard anyone say they've modeled their game after DeChambeau. That's actually really awesome. I think you got to be super smart. Yes. I think because there's so many numbers and physics. Shambo and all that stuff, too, because.
Ty Schmidt
You got to be able to hit it a long way.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You got to thump that thing he's drinking. What.
AJ Hawk
What was it? The nine protein shakes a day?
Pat McAfee
Like, that was when he was trying to gain the weight.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, that's. Yeah, exactly.
Boston Connor
That's when he was the Bison.
AJ Hawk
That. That was unattainable. Now that he's kind of come back to earth, it is.
Pat McAfee
And the putting. I mean, that seems to make sense. Like, if you're just a pendulum. You ever heard Dhambo talk about it? Like, if you lock your arms, there's less.
Michael Cole
Is his grip all up his leg, left forearm.
Pat McAfee
Does he.
Michael Cole
Does he lock it to his forearm?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, because you can't go to your chest anymore, but you can pivot that.
AJ Hawk
Thing on your Y. I model mine after scoot so.
Boston Connor
Nice.
Michael Cole
Yeah, me, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you're slipping. It's like AJ actually does.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Aj.
Michael Cole
Yeah, I always kind of have.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. AJ and Scooty kind of the same way in somehow. Not really. How's the game going this year? I don't know.
Michael Cole
We'll see. You know, if I ever. If I'm out there, it's real up and down. I can get a par and I can get a 10 on. On the next tool.
Pat McAfee
Any bardies yet this year?
Michael Cole
I played about nine holes. I may have one, I think.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
May.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Bird, first time out, of course, I get bored.
Michael Cole
You know, I need. I need something on the line or I get distracted.
Pat McAfee
Phil Mickelson. I get it. Yeah. Yeah.
Michael Cole
Not money.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Michael Cole
I mean, I don't.
Ian Rapoport
Yeah.
Michael Cole
I'm not a big. I'm not a big gambler. I need, like, you know, I need every shot to count. You know that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you need to be out in American Century. Yeah.
Ian Rapoport
There you go.
Pat McAfee
Good luck out there this year. That should be a lot of fun. It should be a lot of fun for you guys.
Michael Cole
Thought you might be coming. Coming?
Pat McAfee
I just don't think so. I. You know, me and the game have an interesting relationship. Mean, go you. I mean, right now you're broken up.
Michael Cole
You've sworn it off a hundred times, but you've also almost come back a hundred times.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Watching Bubba behind the Thunderdome kind of made me think to myself, shouldn't do that sport ever again.
AJ Hawk
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
He just got there, right out of the car, did an interview. You guys got my clubs? Yeah, we got your clubs. Old buddy brings over clubs, and he just takes, like, two hacks at it. And then it's just like, literally, he's playing. He's playing beer pong.
AJ Hawk
So cool.
Ty Schmidt
He said it take him six months to get a hole in one. And he stuck, like, 12 within, like, 8 inches, like, right away. And it was raining out.
Pat McAfee
So much fun. That would be so much fun to be able to do.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah, it was raining.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. There's him. That's like his third shot or something. Like, it's just unbelievable. It's unbelievable what they do. So then that gives me no hope. Hope, you know, because, I mean, hope.
Michael Cole
Is what hope of beating Bubba Watson in a professional.
Pat McAfee
Just knowing that I'll never be able to do that. Just knowing that it's never gonna happen. But look.
Michael Cole
Look at the old Doc. Like, that's why golf is cool. Doc is, you know, cleaning people's teeth one day, and next day he's playing the u. S. Open. Like you could do that.
Pat McAfee
You can qualify play college golf at Butler. So doc's very committed. Doc, yeah, yeah, he's very committed. If he started doing the d. Shambeau, that's a lot of time. And he's going to the golf course and he's not having a lot of fun most of the times. He's probably two hours on the range, two hours on the putting green. Like, to be that good, you have to do that stuff, and it's boring.
Ty Schmidt
Also, if you were hitting it 3:30.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Down the middle every time you're using the driver, guess what? You'd be playing a lot more golf.
Pat McAfee
So much. That's a lot of fun. So much fun.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
We're doing home run derby here.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Did you hear about the West Virginia baseball team, A.J.
Michael Cole
What about. I said their celebration.
Pat McAfee
They're. It was bad selling. I mean, you.
Michael Cole
You won. You're excited. I don't. I don't ever anything post game when you win. Like, I give everybody a pass.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, the boys. The boys were a little juiced up and they, you know, they're trying to get the Gatorade power a bath.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And they had to run that thing two miles. You know, they had a big comeback. I mean, the boys were. Boys were exhausted. The boys retired. And this is good. Stop celebration right now. Boom. That would have been good. It kept going and man, just kept going and kept going and people started falling down.
Michael Cole
But no one got hurt though, right? No one, like, tore an acl.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah. It's just. It's celebration. It's a lot of space and opportunity out there. What do you want from the people?
AJ Hawk
Yeah, no doubt about it. You got to be better.
Pat McAfee
They're. They're playing lsu. Good luck. Lsu. They're going to make dome and then they're going to break Rocco's shot record when they get. Get there. Tennessee. I don't know who they're playing down there.
Boston Connor
It's a good a bama, I think.
Pat McAfee
I don't think.
Michael Cole
And what happened to Wright state?
Pat McAfee
Right.
Michael Cole
State was the giant killer.
AJ Hawk
Is that Arkansas?
Pat McAfee
Oh, it is.
Boston Connor
Arkansas is the favorite, so. Yeah, you're right.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I think that's Arkansas.
Pat McAfee
Okay. That's Arkansas, Arkansas, lsu, Auburn, Tennessee. Representing the sec. Is that the coastal Carolina Y?
AJ Hawk
Yep.
Ty Schmidt
Believe so. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Myrtle beach is in this thing. Love that. That's good for baseball.
Michael Cole
Florida State coaches getting hot water. Some coaches are getting fiery out there in college baseball.
Boston Connor
Coastal's coach. Something happened with Florida. Oh, game time.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Coastal's coach came out, didn't love it. Yeah. I think real, real.
AJ Hawk
Their manager.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. There was somebody that was caught on camera saying something.
Ty Schmidt
White Forest Skipper. Yeah, I got.
Pat McAfee
Did he say forget?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, he said forget about it.
Pat McAfee
I think like that's their. Their mom. It. Right. You have to have the memory of a goldfish. Exactly. You can't be thinking about right now. You got to forget, fool.
Ty Schmidt
That's not what everyone thinks. But if you look at the tape, you could certainly draw that conclusion.
Pat McAfee
What else could it be? He just let that fly? Yes, he did.
Ty Schmidt
Early like the fourth inning too.
Pat McAfee
He was.
Ty Schmidt
He's fed up.
Pat McAfee
Not even like.
AJ Hawk
No, no, no.
Pat McAfee
Just.
Michael Cole
Nope.
Pat McAfee
Did he say forget like you forget something? Like a bad at bat?
Ty Schmidt
I think so. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Tennessee guy was, you know, hot dogging around up to play. I think he just called him fool.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
What do you mean hot?
Pat McAfee
Didn't look like that, but maybe seemed like a couple.
Darius Butler
Been a jag off.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah? Maybe Jag off. That's a good word. He didn't say that. I don't think.
Darius Butler
No, he's from PA about an hour from us.
Boston Connor
Yeah, he's from. Where was it?
Darius Butler
Johnstown Pit.
Boston Connor
Johnstown.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Of course he is. Of course he is.
Michael Cole
What's that area?
Boston Connor
What's Johnstown like an hour from Pittsburgh?
Pat McAfee
On that note, tires is coming out.
Darius Butler
June 5, not far from Ohio.
Pat McAfee
Nice.
Boston Connor
On that note, Ohio, too far here.
Pat McAfee
Three, four, probably right. Four probably. If I had to guess, Johnstown is maybe three.
Boston Connor
I'm looking up.
Pat McAfee
It's all kind of the same over there. The Rust Belt all kind of runs together. Yeah, it's.
Boston Connor
It's an hour east of Pittsburgh. So two hours from Ohio.
Pat McAfee
He said. I need to do this one right here.
Michael Cole
That looks kind of difficult. That seems like a lot.
Boston Connor
It's a little east of Latrobe where the. Where training camp is.
Darius Butler
Okay.
Pat McAfee
Hey, I love it also, though, sold him a Rolling Rock.
AJ Hawk
Love what Doc said. What did.
Pat McAfee
Yes, the beer. The green. Yep, green bottle. They sold it to another company.
AJ Hawk
What did Scotty Scheffler say again?
Pat McAfee
Do your swing okay. Yeah, but Scotty's saying that as if I played.
Michael Cole
You're an athlete, though. You're an athlete, though. You're thinking of like these old, middle aged dudes that aren't athletes. That's what they need to do, you need to be an athlete and trust yourself.
Darius Butler
Exactly.
Michael Cole
Use your hands, A.J. well, I think your game's rounding into form.
Darius Butler
Read the book. You gotta read the book.
AJ Hawk
It's in the book.
Darius Butler
Foxy knows.
Pat McAfee
I heard you guys got a good full swing session.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's fast working. Oh, yeah. Shout out to the full swing simulator people. They, they've heard us relentlessly talk about our golf simulator up here and they've reached out and said, hey, we need, we would like to fix this problem for you guys because we think it could be an additive to your life as as opposed to a massive disappointment, which is what this last simulator was. Yes, without a doubt, this last simulator up here was a massive disappointment. You go up there, first of all, you find the motivation to go hit some shots. I'm going to go hit some shots. You go all the way up there, you turn the computer on, things take a bit. Okay, so now the projector is warming up as well. Here we go. Stretch out a little bit. Yep, stretch out a little bit. Haven't hit a little bit here. Get to Kawashala. Kawashala. Do the whole thing. Then obviously it has to test for where the balls are. So you do the test. Okay, got it. Now you get into the app, you got to punch in all the. Okay. All the. Okay. Boom. You finally get to the driving range. Here we go. You put it down and then you hit that thing and guess what? It doesn't register a thing. Staring at it. There you go. Get another ball. And then it puts a green check mark. It says, yep, we see it. It. Nothing. It's like, all right, well I gotta go out, reset this thing. Now we needed to reboot. Also need the whole laser system to reboot. Okay, now we're 13 minutes into this thing and we've hit two balls that didn't register. But we've stretched. We've done a computer twice and we've had the motivation come and go to hit balls. That has been our simulator experience for the last two years. Basically from jump three, three years maybe. That has been the. It has been a massive disaster disappointment. Spot on. It's the worst thing ever. You were just literally just hitting it into a blank wall is what that. That became.
Michael Cole
You just get a net. You get a ten dollar net and do that.
Pat McAfee
Bingo. This became like a garage net. And it was like, who's. Where's it going? Who the knows? Did you hit it clean? Sure felt like it. Who knows though, if that thing doesn't after 20ft because you're only hitting at 10ft. So the full swing people called, and they're like, we would like to make this. Make this a weapon for you. You. And they did. I think it works. That's what I heard. Right?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Me and. Me and Tony played like, four holes yesterday.
Pat McAfee
And it worked.
Ty Schmidt
Yep. Every shot registered.
Pat McAfee
Thank you. Full swing.
Darius Butler
Nice.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Learned a lot.
Pat McAfee
They looked out for us. That was very kind of them. Somebody watched our show from them and said, we would like to make this happen for you. And that's nice. So we're all going to be scratch golfers now?
Boston Connor
I think so.
AJ Hawk
No, I still quit.
Pat McAfee
It better work in December. That's when we need it. December, January, February. Thank you. Full swing. It needs to be working during those months, though. Well, right now, I think it's warming. You know, it's getting into fighting shape.
AJ Hawk
No more problems.
Pat McAfee
This training camp for this simulator. All right, let's get on the road down to Cary, North Carolina. Let's do this. Tst.
AJ Hawk
Hell, yeah. Let's win this or let's go to Myrtle.
Michael Cole
Yes.
Darius Butler
Here we go, boys.
Pat McAfee
Connor was trying to convince me during the break that we need to take that. That plane, carry Myrtle Beach.
AJ Hawk
I just don't. I don't think it's a terrible.
Pat McAfee
Except we're heading in the same direction.
Michael Cole
Myrtle beach is fun. You will have fun in Myrtle beach.
Pat McAfee
Especially if there's a concert going on down there. Marty Smith's Boys Country Fest. Carolina Country Fest. Yeah. They got some good queue down there.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
You ever had that queue down there, Carolina? You're a.
Darius Butler
Yes. Yep. Good queue.
Boston Connor
Would the.
Darius Butler
I wouldn't say it's the best.
Boston Connor
What?
Pat McAfee
What?
Darius Butler
I mean, put Kansas City. Kansas City barbecue.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but Marty Smith said. I know Kansas City's got good Q power.
Darius Butler
Rank. Did you have the vinegar Q cream of crop.
Pat McAfee
Who. Who gates in Kansas City? Is that one of the places that's, like, popular?
Darius Butler
I think we got some gates after our game.
Pat McAfee
That's what I'm saying. Like, would I have had this?
Darius Butler
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Darius Butler
Yes.
Pat McAfee
I do remember Kansas City having. Having great barbecue, and I do remember going to Kansas City and everybody saying, you have to have barbecue. That's what kind of is the notion.
Darius Butler
Yes.
Pat McAfee
That's like, you go to Houston, they got a lot of steak places. Yeah, Houston's got great steak restaurants down there. You go to Kansas City, they say you got to have barbecue down here. Now, Texas barbecue, though, is a real thing, too, right? Yes, yes.
Boston Connor
Good queue down there, too.
Pat McAfee
What's the difference? Do we Know what the difference is? Is it the seasoning, the way it's cooked?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Michael Cole
They all claim they're the best.
Pat McAfee
The Q sauce, because you got Carolina of gold, right? Sauce. Then you got like Nashville hot sauce.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Then I. I assume there's some Texas barbecue of some sort. Sweet little Kansas City might have a little bit of.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, they do.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Sweet cube, kc, Sweet sk.
Pat McAfee
It's all good.
Michael Cole
For real. It's like pizza. It's all good.
Pat McAfee
I agree. You. You. If you're going to slow cook meat, I'm eat it, you know?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
No, it's a good rule.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
What? That's what Q is, brother. What are we talking about?
AJ Hawk
You don't like slow cooked.
Darius Butler
Me, I like. Yeah. So cooked beef. Pause.
Ty Schmidt
It's not always beef. You like to get chicken.
AJ Hawk
You like to get filled.
Darius Butler
I like to eat good food.
Pat McAfee
You like to fill yourself up with some good beef. Beef.
Boston Connor
Kansas City is a tomato base with mal molasses.
Pat McAfee
North Carolina has Lexington vinegar and tomato. Eastern vinegar and pepper. Specialty meat is whole hog down there in North Carolina. South Carolina western peppery tomato based central South Carolina, Carolina gold mustard, coastal peppery spice with vinegary specialty meat. The whole hog. The whole pig is in trouble. In the Carolinas. The whole pig is in trouble.
AJ Hawk
So that's why Debut, he doesn't like getting the.
Pat McAfee
What is mutton? What's that, buddy?
Michael Cole
What is mutton? In Ken, in Kentucky, the specialty meat.
Ty Schmidt
Is lamb, you cretin.
Pat McAfee
Geez Louise, dude. They have vinegar based with mutton dip, lamb dip, pepper and vinegar. Missouri, Kansas City, Shout out tomato base with molasses.
Boston Connor
Oh, that's that sweet barbecue.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Sweet cube burnt ends are. Yeah. To die for. And then Texas has tomato base with beef drippings. Oh, beef dripping. Chili pepper and spices. Beef briskets. There's things. So they're a brisket team. They're the burn end squad up there. Tennessee dry rub, focus paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and sugar, pork rib, cayenne pepper. I think just reading the sauces here. Lemon juice, horseradish, hot sauce, salt, pepper and vinegar. Alabama pork ass shoulder and ribs down there in Alabama. I'll tell you what, I think I like the Alabama sauce the best. Lemon juice, horseradish, hot sauce, salt and pepper and vinegar. That feels like the one that I would like the best.
AJ Hawk
Do you remember the burnt ends from lsu?
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Those things were unbelievable.
AJ Hawk
Unbelievable.
Pat McAfee
They were. Louisiana's not even on here.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, that's why it must be like the bama ones. That's what it Sounded like kind of.
Pat McAfee
Like roll into it. Yeah, yeah. We'll go try some of the cue down here in North Carolina.
Darius Butler
Yeah, can't wait.
Pat McAfee
Hold on.
Boston Connor
I'm hungry.
Pat McAfee
You know what I'm hungry for a TST title.
Ty Schmidt
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I'll tell you what, these concave boys better be able to lock the in. Gumpy, have you been giving speeches? Have you been sending motivational text messages? I know you guys are on some weird app together that I refuse to join. Have you been sending some messaging?
Michael Cole
What is it?
Pat McAfee
Huh?
Boston Connor
What's the thing that that group no longer exists.
Pat McAfee
Okay, thank you. A different squad this year. Meola had 18 holes yesterday.
Boston Connor
He's got the boys ready.
Pat McAfee
M golfed yesterday. Yeah, he got 18. He better cleared his mind. He had the boys going.
Boston Connor
Guppy has mentioned Meola golfing no less than 80 times today. I don't think Guppy's real real with coach.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if Tony Mula knows that. Gumpy is a big. Must have been nice to be able to golf 18 holes on a Monday guy, you know, that is kind of what he is doing, right? What happened? We're there to win a tournament.
AJ Hawk
Just happened.
Pat McAfee
Breaking news.
AJ Hawk
Big breaking news, actually breaking news. No actual news.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, the New York Knicks have relieved Tom Thibodeau of his duties as the head coach of the New York Knicks. Thibodeau led the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years, made playoffs in four to five years and led to Knicks Knicks to consecutive 50 plus win seasons for the first time since the 1990s. That's via Sham Sharania, senior NBA insider for ESPN Friend of the program. Let's give him a call real quick because obviously Knicks fans had been kind of calling for this as soon as they lose. But I think that was in the emotional aftermath of losing a series to the Pacers. Understanding that this was a real opportunity to make it to the NBA Finals. There was no Celtics. The Cavs, who were the number one team in the east all year, obviously lose to the Pacers. This felt like maybe the easiest path to get to a Finals. You're this close to an NBA Finals and then you blow it. So there was a lot of anger. I think there was a lot of emotion. Especially after this happens and the shirt goes on sale and the Pacers kind of do their thing. I didn't know if it was actually going to happen though because those are a lot of good things that he did for the New York Knicks. Obviously Malone is out there Formerly of the Denver Nuggets. Is Bruce Brown in the back? BRUCE Brown, New York Knicks fan what was the temperature? Is this what Knicks fans thought were going to happen or what was kind of the expectation here? I mean, you know, while the playoffs are going on, a lot of Knicks fans were trying to stay positive. I was certainly on this for a bit because, you know, like, when you're playing seven guys in a rotation and you're falling short in the playoffs and you're. Your playoff record is like, as a coach is like 46 and 70. You know, it's kind of time to say, hey, thank you, Tibbs, for. For building us up to this point. But it's time to go a different direction. Maybe that direction is Mike Malone. Maybe we go up to Storrs, Connecticut and knock on Dan Hurley's door and see what he's up to. But I think this is probably a necessary move to, to kind of take that. That next step, you know, playoffs, playoff withstanding, you know. Does Hurley have a connection to the Knicks? I believe so. I believe there is one, too. His family somewhere.
AJ Hawk
Maybe his brother.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. His dad maybe. Yeah. Something. There is a Knicks connection. Obviously, it's the New York Knicks. Yeah. So it's in Madison Square Garden. And we all saw what Knicks fans became and what the hype was around. Whenever the Knicks are good, it's the whole city coming together basically around a team. It was beautiful to watch take place. Maybe that'll be enough to draw Dan Hurley out of. Yeah. Yukon. You know, this is going to happen every single year. It's going to happen every single year with Dan Hurley Malone obviously sitting there waiting. But I think if I listen to Bruce Wright, whenever he was angry watching the GCN Conference finals, the thought was, Carlisle's running a circle around this guy. Yeah. And in last year playoffs, Carlisle ran a circle around this guy. Carlisle might be a great coach, and our team might be set up differently than what the Knicks are, maybe a little bit deeper. But it has been kind of a masterclass on how best the seven series Pacers are going to win that inevitably. Yeah. When you play your starters all regular season and then in the Eastern Conference finals, say, all right, guys, you know what we're going to do? We're playing 10 guys. Then you have to learn how to do that for the very first time on the biggest stage possible. If we'd been playing right and shame it and Deuce McBride, the minutes that they probably should have been getting all along, then you know how to teeter with it and adjust it, you know, when the, when the lights are, are the brightest. So that, that was certainly a big knock. And then you know, his, his playoff resume could, could be better. But obviously you say he's 46 and 70. He's around there. Yeah. As a. In the playoffs. That's all the best teams though. It's all the best teams. No doubt. Sure.
Darius Butler
The Knicks would get it right.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so on that note, Sham Charani has tweeted the Knicks are singularly focused on their pursuit of a championship and believe a new voice will serve as the focus of for the organization's next step. Sources said after five season with the Knicks, Tom Thibodeau is officially out.
Darius Butler
Yeah, I mean it surprising to me, but hearing Jeff Teague, one of my favorite NBA fans who got the podcast and he was talking about playing for Tibs and he was like, man, Tibbs don't even coach. He just. Damn, man, come on. Damn, damn. You said that's all he says. Like you see with Brunson, Brunson's a phenomenal player. But like, you know, when you are aren't necessarily running sets or running plays, you're kind of the ball stopper. And the Knicks, they never get it right though. So I don't think they will going forward. This is surprising to me. Coming stretched off the Eastern Conference. We see it happen in the NBA though.
Pat McAfee
Joining us now live. He only has three minutes before he probably has to go on television. Ladies and gentlemen, Sham Sharanya. Sean's Knicks fans. Obviously throughout the series with the Pacers, I heard gain a little bit of noise because Carlisle was seemingly out coaching. The team was ready, ready. How long has this been in the works and what ultimately led to their decision to get rid of Tom Thibodeau?
Ty Schmidt
So Pat, as soon as the Knicks.
Pat McAfee
Season ended, they started meetings internally and.
Ty Schmidt
James Dolan, the Knicks owner, Leon Rose, their president, they believe the best path for this team to take the next step as an organization win a championship.
Pat McAfee
Is that they need a new voice.
Ty Schmidt
And so Leon Rose and James Dolan came to the decision this morning that.
Pat McAfee
They were going to to part ways with Tom Thibodeau. He is fired as their head coach.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, Pat, you think about what they've done as an organization, like to lose in the conference finals, that's not a bad feat. You know, this is a team that's gone from really out of much contention at all.
Pat McAfee
Then when Tom Thibodeau comes in, they become respectable again.
Ty Schmidt
Four or five seasons in the playoffs.
Pat McAfee
They'Ve had back to back 50 win.
Ty Schmidt
Seasons for the first time since the 1990s. I mean, I think everyone around the league is stunned. I mean, my phone is blowing up.
Pat McAfee
A bunch of teams are reaching out right now.
Ty Schmidt
Absolutely shocked. But they've been having meetings for the last 24 hours, and this is the decision they came with.
Pat McAfee
Okay, we know you have to run quickly. Malone, obviously is a coach that is available after getting fired from the Denver Nuggets. He's won a championship before. Does that become a name that the Knicks are going to look at? Bruce Brown, who's a massive Knicks fan, just said, hey, maybe Dan Hurley out of you. What are the names in the coaching pool for this particular. This coaching cycle?
Ty Schmidt
I'm not sure yet which direction they go. But you think about, for Tom Thibodeau, the issues that they probably had with them. You think about what Mikhail Bridges said early in the year, and I think a comment like that rings true. Like a guy that, you know, might.
Pat McAfee
Trust his bench more, a guy that.
Ty Schmidt
Might be a little bit more lenient.
Pat McAfee
Based on his principles and what he wants to enact. I mean, clearly, the way Tom Thibodeau.
Ty Schmidt
Coached, I mean, for better or for worse, he was. He was very, very.
Pat McAfee
I won't even say stuck in his.
Ty Schmidt
Way, but he had a.
Pat McAfee
A way that he was going to operate.
Ty Schmidt
That's what it was going to be. He was not going to change. And for better or for worse, now.
Pat McAfee
It leads to a lot of success.
Ty Schmidt
All these guys have career years, but. But clearly the Knicks, I think the.
Pat McAfee
Direction they're going to go in now.
Ty Schmidt
Is figuring out a guy that they know can build out the entire roster.
Pat McAfee
The bench can work with.
Ty Schmidt
The front office is a little bit more lenient based on what their strategies.
Pat McAfee
Are and not so, you know, tips.
Ian Rapoport
Has.
Pat McAfee
Has success his way or. Or the highway.
Ty Schmidt
In this case, I guess the Knicks.
Pat McAfee
Gave him the highway. Jeez, Louis, Sean, maybe Timothy Chalamet gets in there.
AJ Hawk
They're gonna need his money.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they're gonna need his brain. Yeah, him and Ben Stiller maybe get Spike Lee in there. Get. Was it Miles Teller all of a sudden? All right, have them all in there. All right. We appreciate you. Sean's great work, buddy. Appreciate you guys. Thank you. He's got to do TV right now, probably.
AJ Hawk
Knicks have no options. They traded all their picks. All their players are basically max guys. This is the only way they could do anything. And now if they want to build out their roster, they got to trade one of their. Their big names. So I mean, they're so. I can't believe they did this.
Pat McAfee
Michael Cole just texted me. Knicks are firing Tibs, question mark. What the.
AJ Hawk
They finally. They finally beat the Celtics. Like the Eastern Conference. Like, imagine if the Pacers fired Carlisle.
Pat McAfee
I mean, we're stuck on the first April, not the. Not the second.
Ian Rapoport
Like, the Celtics.
Pat McAfee
Cat will be tough to move, but it's like a Tomlin situation almost in Pittsburgh.
Boston Connor
But you get. You get Malone. It's an upgrade.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
I mean, would be easy to move, but the reports are coming out that his teammates are pissed at him.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but that could be just lies to try to diminish his trade value for somebody. You know, there's no doubt. So much.
AJ Hawk
That was before Tibs was even.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. No, but they might have been trying to.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. This is also just a byproduct of coaching in New York. Like, if he was in a small market, like, he's not getting fired. You know, he's probably getting an extension for going to the Eastern Conference finals. But it's like, hey, this is the.
Pat McAfee
Knicks, you know, also, I mean, to your point, Carlisle here, he's been here seven years now, six years, whatever it's been. And it's like last year, they make it to the Eastern Conference finals, it's like, yes.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Then they back it up again, though, and it's like, yes, but if they would have done bad, I think people would have still been like, ah, Pacers are a good thing. We made the Eastern Conference finals last year, made it to the playoffs this year, lost the number one seed Cavs or whatever. It's a different conversation in New York. I mean, I threw myself right in the middle of it there for a little bit. Yeah. They put up street signs. They really, really. They really love that next team. You got to be good over there. And the most success they've had, though. Yeah. Sorry. You got to be great over there. I guess. You got to be great over there. You don't. I mean, we were winning 30 games for, like, 20 years, and the place.
Matt Vogt
Was still sold out.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
And then they found.
Pat McAfee
So what are you doing here? It's like Jim Caldwell at the Detroit Lions. I am surprised by this. And Dolan kind of stepping back into basketball operations. It sounds like, you know, meeting with Leon Rose. And I would imagine that the owner was a part of.
Michael Cole
Of this player exit meeting. Did they have a big part of it? You think player exit meetings had a big sway? If players gave their opinion, maybe.
Pat McAfee
But Brunson was like, you know, huge, huge tibbs. Guy as was, you know, Josh Hart who, I mean kind of who, who cares what Josh says but. No, no, no, no doubt. But I, I, Brunson kind of the.
Matt Vogt
The first and foremost.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And you said Brunson has been a big tibs guy that I think Brunson would be a big whoever the head coach guy. Yeah, he, he's a dog. Brunson is.
AJ Hawk
He's awesome.
Darius Butler
He's got to be a big tips guy for him to basically pass up on $100 million. Stay there. So he had to have some type of trust.
Pat McAfee
And his dad. Right.
Darius Butler
Work dad's on the bench as well. So I mean it's, it's wild, but it's New York Knicks, dude.
Pat McAfee
They were the Eastern Conference final. Final Four. Like I know we're small town Indiana, we love basketball, this state loves basketball out here it's like Eastern Conference finals. Pretty cool.
AJ Hawk
Even more so too. Like hey you, you went the year before. Next year you go to the finals. Like if you're the Knicks, you're more so thinking like hey we just got to the Eastern Conference finals. Like let's get a couple players and then let's go back.
Pat McAfee
Maybe we have a deeper bench. We get a couple players, get a couple guys, you know, then maybe we're playing eight, nine guys a night.
AJ Hawk
Same system, same head coach, same voice.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. But I'm assuming there's Knicks fans out there that are telling us we're idiots because oh yeah, it must be nice to be on the side where the team that just out coaches the other team and wins in the playoffs every time. Which is what they said about. That's what they Knicks fans were saying.
AJ Hawk
About Carlisle early on with Bruce though, like even when the playoffs first started it was like, hey, it's, it's two scenarios here. The Knicks go on a run or they don't and Tibbs gets fired. And that's great because then at least there's some change. Like the Knicks did go on a great run. They beat the Celtics and you know, Tatum towards Achilles.
Pat McAfee
But by the time let's say they beat the Pacers. Yeah. And then they play OKC and they get swept. Okay. In the finals, Tibbs gets fired.
Ty Schmidt
No way.
Darius Butler
Probably.
Pat McAfee
I don't know.
AJ Hawk
Now Toronto, I legitimately don't know who.
Darius Butler
Else got fired after.
Boston Connor
No Nick Nurse.
Michael Cole
I mean got fired after year after winning.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Did you say Buddenholzer?
Darius Butler
Yeah. Who knows Milwaukee like it's NBA is like you never know. And like I feel like you know, we talked about Brunson, like the players have. You never really know who's moving the pieces behind the scenes in the NBA. I feel like the NFL you can kind of pinpoint, okay, it's going to be that guy or that guy's. Maybe that gal's decision in that building that's changing huge pieces like this. But in the NBA, I feel like it's like different powers at work that we're not necessarily privy to, but it's the big time. Players were being asked a lot after the series. I know Brunson specifically about, hey, do you have faith? Yeah. Do you have faith in Tibbs to kind of turn it or get you guys over the hump? But it's not like you keep getting there. You just can't get over the hump. Like, you haven't had much success. You haven't had one of championships at 73. You get to the finals and then you fire the guy. So we'll see what they got up their sleeve.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we shall see. And good luck to the Knicks fans. I heard a lot of you guys saying, see you next year to us in the Eastern Conference Conference vinyls. We'll see. New coach.
AJ Hawk
This is the only change they can make.
Michael Cole
Yeah, they gotta have an idea of who they want. Dolan has to have an idea of a couple people he wants.
Pat McAfee
I would like to say Dolan is hilarious in my eyes. Yeah, I think Dolan is a hilarious individual. I think he is abandoned.
Michael Cole
He's got a great band.
Pat McAfee
Great band. He's got the sphere out there. I mean, he. And he's been through it, you know, even with Knicks fans and just completely sounds like a you thing, not a me thing. And just keep it moving. And then whenever we were, when I was looking for tickets and him just being absolutely. What do we myria? No way.
AJ Hawk
I mean, they booted.
Pat McAfee
I love that Pacers fan.
AJ Hawk
Who'd they loot?
Pat McAfee
That's real.
Darius Butler
I didn't know that.
Pat McAfee
That's real. They got to him. Two different angles. Two different people got to him. Like pretty. Pretty significant people got to him two different ways. I don't sent the article of me doing a thing. I don't think so, buddy. What are we doing?
Ty Schmidt
Nuts.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, right. I love that.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Like, I think the people, whenever they gave me the answer, didn't think that I would love it. And I was like, oh, that is awesome. That is exactly how I would hope, you know, the owner would act in this situation. Feels like he would like the Knicks to win.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Yeah. Will they get it done? Bruce? We'll be back in the playoffs for sure.
Darius Butler
Who done.
Pat McAfee
He's been pretty docile. Had he. So this is docile, Bruce. So I mean, being a Yankee, Giants, Knicks fan is, you know, the different side of the Venn diagram to the Mets Jets, Knicks fan. I don't get how they do it. This sucks. They're never going to win an NBA championship. My entire life and I know that. And still each year you just work up that hope slowly but surely, and then each year just comes crashing down. I mean, it's kind of new to be the playoffs. Tibs did it three times in four and five in the 25 years prior to that. I think we did. We went there like once or twice. Jesus looking a diff horse in the m. Exactly. I mean the, the faith is in Leon Rose, the GM who came over from. From head of CAA and complete. Completely flipped this around. He hasn't really made up or made any like horrible rash decisions. You can point at the Bridges trade as. As potentially one. But I. I have faith in. In. In him combing through the best available guys and making a great decision. Okay. You talked about Mets fans. Michael Cole, also one of those. He just texted me and said catching up to show Rap is an idiot. Sent me a picture of his armpit hair.
Ty Schmidt
Nice.
Pat McAfee
So he just has light armpit hair. I think he just.
AJ Hawk
That'll happen.
Pat McAfee
It's because.
Boston Connor
It's probably because the Mets do have. Oh, my bad there.
Pat McAfee
He's on there. Okay.
Michael Cole
Nice pick.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. There's armpit. That's his armpit.
Darius Butler
Clear that up.
Pat McAfee
Thanks, Cole.
Darius Butler
I got here.
Michael Cole
I want to see whoever was driving next to him as he took that picture in his car.
Pat McAfee
That's Michael Cole. What is he taking a picture of? His armpit. He's the greatest. Sorry, what you said. Go ahead.
Boston Connor
No, the Mets do have the best record in the nl. Second best record in the. In all of the baseball.
Ty Schmidt
Three in a row.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Number two. Baseball. Yeah. That's the. I'm telling you, I know this Mets team pretty good. Once a week I get a full experience.
Boston Connor
He's basically. He was saying. Because Rap's basically a fake fan for not knowing that well.
Pat McAfee
And also Rap is saying he's a fan because he gets free tickets to the games.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Oversized jersey.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So he. He didn't really. He'll catch up in the playoffs. Michael Cole is there every at bat grinding. I don't know how he does it legitimately. I don't know how he pays attention. He has like an app that tells him every pitch and it just. Notification, pop up. Notification pop up. Oh, who would have thought? Juan Soto, flyer, 17 pitch at bat. Some pitcher. This guy's not gonna be able to pitch past fourth inning. Like just every single. It's just a new baseball thing. I've never seen somebody do it. Cole is with this Mets team. I mean, good.
Ty Schmidt
They're good.
Pat McAfee
Good. They're better. They're the Kings of New York.
Ty Schmidt
No, they're not. They actually just lost the series to the Yankees. So I don't know how they could be the Kings in New York when they can't beat the other team in New York. But they're good.
Pat McAfee
They're.
Ty Schmidt
They're certainly good. Without a doubt.
Pat McAfee
Start spreading the news. They're leaving today. They wanna take over it. Mets are New York.
Ty Schmidt
They still want to lynch and kill Juan Soto. And they just spent $750 million on the guy. So until they get that figured out, Yankees fans are doing great with the acquisitions we made this off season.
Pat McAfee
How are you guys? You guys gonna make the playoffs this year? Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
They're leading the American League by about six games. Pretty comfortable. Pretty comfortable lead.
Pat McAfee
What about the Pittsburgh Pirates? How have we been doing?
Ty Schmidt
It is ski day.
Pat McAfee
Wait, today?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And.
Boston Connor
Since Don Kelly is taking over, they are playing some salty ball.
Pat McAfee
Don Kelly? Yeah. Because new manager.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Yes.
AJ Hawk
Yes.
Ty Schmidt
Their issue is that the Cubs are actually one of the best teams in baseball.
Pat McAfee
Chicago Cubs suck. We know that.
Ty Schmidt
Not this year.
Pat McAfee
No. I thought they were historically terrible. So good this year.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, they want to. They won a World Series not too long ago. Kind of broke the curse.
Pat McAfee
Oh, no. The White.
Ty Schmidt
White Sox were historically bad last year, but that's not even going to matter because the rest Rockies are going to break. They're going to be worse this year.
Pat McAfee
I heard you guys talk about that yesterday with Jet. Sorry. To the Cubs fans. I thought you guys were the White Sox. White Sox is the Pope. Chris Pope is a White Sox fan.
Ty Schmidt
Correct.
Pat McAfee
I apologize. The Tigers just destroyed the White Sox last night.
Ty Schmidt
Tigers, very good.
Boston Connor
That's the best. That's first team to 40.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Best record. MLB.
Pat McAfee
Carrie Carpenter hit three home runs last night. He plays for the Tigers. Yes, he does.
AJ Hawk
And these games matter too.
Pat McAfee
Yes, they do.
AJ Hawk
What you don't know here is all these. You know where they're ranked in the MLB right now? It's like bigger than it would be in September.
Pat McAfee
Well, especially if Jack Caglion's coming in town. Have you heard about this guy? 130 mile an hour, plus hits off the bat. Vo. Dude was a pitcher in college. Okay. In Florida. Now he's playing first base. In how field? Trying to figure it out. Right, Ty?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Probably not going to play first base in the. In the big leagues because they got Vinnie, Pat Quintino, but he's probably gonna.
Pat McAfee
Play out a couple Italians running this thing.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Not even the number one prospect in the Miners.
Pat McAfee
Who's number one prospect in the Miners?
AJ Hawk
Roman Anthony. Boston Red.
Pat McAfee
So he was the guy.
Boston Connor
They had to sneak him out in a. In a.
AJ Hawk
200 people out.
Boston Connor
There was six people standing outside.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. That was a weird thing. That was a weird thing, doing that for that thing.
AJ Hawk
I'm assuming those 20 people have been there for 22 months straight. Sure. 10, 5. I'm assuming all of them have been there for two months straight. And he signed for all those.
Darius Butler
Wait, wait.
AJ Hawk
Specifically.
Michael Cole
Keep watching.
Pat McAfee
He. Taylor Swift did it at the concert. Yeah. Yeah. Boom. There he is.
Ty Schmidt
Ice cold beers.
Darius Butler
I just can't go back to the beginning.
Pat McAfee
There's 15 people.
Darius Butler
Maybe I missed some people.
Pat McAfee
No, I understand. I appreciate. I don't like autograph hounds either. Okay. The people that turn it into a sport.
AJ Hawk
There's no doubt about it. Those people. People up.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Michael Cole
They are the binders.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. People are all this is them trying to make a living off of this guy's niceness and kindness. They've probably taken advantage of this kid a lot, but the way he was captioned was like he didn't want to get mobbed by fans. And then we watched videos. Seven people there. It's like, I don't think that's the reason why he was doing it, but I do respect it. And they need to just keep those people out of there.
Darius Butler
Still off.
Pat McAfee
They need to call more people should. More.
Darius Butler
Those people would the bind like. Come on.
Pat McAfee
More people should do that. People should feel more comfortable telling the autograph hounds. The people that make a living off of praying off of your niceness and popping up in places that are so ridiculous. I mean, I'll have people pop up out of the woods, like at airport that I'm pulling up to just. Middle of the night, 1am pop up out of nowhere, garbage bag full of things. I was wondering if you'd sign a couple things and then pull the guard drag out. They got 45 things.
Darius Butler
You want me to make it out to nobody?
Pat McAfee
No, they even got that you can. They can make it out. They can. Oh, yeah.
Michael Cole
Don't race it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they can get it off. They'll even bring their kids, scumbag. Yeah, they have their kids have a bag of you. Remember that? Oh, yeah. I had to tell one kid that this is not how life goes, dude. Right? Like I signed it and I was like, this is not how this goes. You should know that. This is not how this goes. I don't. I get it, the hustle and bustle. But then charging people that are fans of ours for that is just so absurd in my eyes too. Because if I run into you up, I'll sign for you. I'll take a picture with you, I'll talk to you, do the whole thing. Just the people, the garbage bags and all this. I just can't. And they expect, they. They try to grandstand on you being a bad person too. It's like, all right, I'm a bad guy. See you. I've had to evolve into that feeling. I've had to evolve into that. I'll sign some of them for them. I'll tell some people, like, I'll do two per. Two per two person. And then there's always somebody trying to get back in rows if I didn't see them. I just saw you, bro. I see your fingers. There was actually these one guys that came with an autograph Sidney Crosby thing and an autograph Barry Sanders thing. Knowing I would be there, they exchanged those to us for Pat's autograph. It was good business, actually. I respected that. And I did sign. I did sign. Oh, definitely. Yeah, we got an autograph in return. I'm like, okay, this is a good business. Yeah, this is good business. I don't like doing the autograph. I don't like people spending the money that people spend on those things people really spend money on. Oh yeah.
Darius Butler
Still a big market.
Boston Connor
That's their fault.
Pat McAfee
I don't know about my market in general, but I do know that people spend money on that stuff. And I'm like, don't. I don't know. It's not worth. Cuz my signature too. Like, what? That thing's changing. Yeah, Like I watch Pawn Stars and they have to legitimize an autograph or whatever. And it's like, how would you legitimize mine? Similar, but boy, you get lazy sometimes. That's just a big old PE on there and then it's just mc so hit signature. Is it awesome.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
So sick.
Ty Schmidt
Sick.
Pat McAfee
See, that one's worth.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, he does like the Japanese lettering next to it too. Like, it's really cool.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. See, that is a card that'll be worth so Much money. Whenever it's all said and done, he's best player in baseball right now.
Ty Schmidt
No.
Pat McAfee
Really?
Darius Butler
All rise.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Big Dumper in Seattle is pretty good too.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Who's that? Big Dumper. He's leaving. Leading the league in home runs with sh.
Boston Connor
He's got 23 big dumpers.
Pat McAfee
His name. What. What's his actual name? Cal R. AKA Big Dumper.
AJ Hawk
Oh, he's a big.
Pat McAfee
He's a Big Bopper guy mashes the baseball dude. What's his nickname? Big Dumper.
Boston Connor
I actually saw Mariners fans super upset the other day cuz he took the lead for most home runs in the league. And they were upset because the MLB account didn't have fun. Every time Ohtani hits a home run and makes it, you know, the league lead, they, you know, they go all out. And they weren't doing that for the Mariners guys.
Pat McAfee
So everybody.
Boston Connor
Mariners fans were super upset.
Pat McAfee
I assume Seattle sports fans feel as if they get. Yeah, for sure. Shafted when it comes to attention on a regular basis, which definitely is true.
Ty Schmidt
They're good, though. Mariners good.
Pat McAfee
You got a guy named Big Dumper on the squad? I'm. I'm a fan of the Big Dump. Let's make sure we add Big Dump into the updates. When. Whenever we're doing big baseball.
Ty Schmidt
Sounds good. Mariner is one of those teams I'm not, you know, usually keeping too many tabs on because this guy's Aquaman.
Pat McAfee
Big Dump.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, that. The tried Mariners deal. They start every game at like 10:45 Eastern, though, so it's great.
Boston Connor
Beautiful ballpark.
AJ Hawk
I'll catch one. I'll catch one.
Darius Butler
A lot of fans out there.
Pat McAfee
A baseball one from Big Dumper?
AJ Hawk
No, I'll catch a game.
Darius Butler
Oh, that's.
Boston Connor
They just retired 51 for.
Pat McAfee
No way. For Ichiro and Randy Johnson. That's great news. Was that Big Dumper right there just hit one off the ground? Oh, yeah. That's Big Dump for baseball. Ichiro and Randy Johnson both wear the number 51 for the Seattle Mariners. They were retired for both of them. Has that ever happened before in sports?
Boston Connor
I don't know. It seemed pretty cool when I saw it.
Pat McAfee
Me too. I thought that was like really sweet, actually. And it feels like those two are the right two people.
Boston Connor
Perfect too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
To kind of do it another place it may happen. Denver Nuggets.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Joker with 15.
Darius Butler
Joker. Mellow, mellow. First Battle hall of Famer.
Boston Connor
That'd be cool.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that would be sweet. Long term. What about. About Terry Bradshaw and Aaron Rodgers?
Michael Cole
That could happen if that Happens.
Pat McAfee
Please.
Darius Butler
I doubt Terry will let him get up.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, every time I hear him talk, I'm just like, jesus, go chew on some bark, buddy. What a line. It's real, though.
Darius Butler
I can see how there was more to that quote too. I think they left the best part out.
AJ Hawk
It's just been nice.
Pat McAfee
What was the best part?
Michael Cole
Yeah, what it said.
Darius Butler
I believe it was. I don't want to misquote the great Terry Br. I believe it was ch on bark and whisper to the gods, which you.
Pat McAfee
Don'T want to yell at him cuz you don't know if they'll listen.
Ty Schmidt
So he said his aura's like every time he comes around, it feels like it's just going to start to snow.
Darius Butler
This guy's dude.
Boston Connor
Y2 on bar and whiskey gods.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's a bar. Yeah. Terry Bradshaw's been doing TV a long time. Every time he comes around, I just don't. We all feel it. Kind of fun. Get the worst feeling.
Ty Schmidt
Goddamn snowstorm coming in.
Pat McAfee
Hunker down. He's got a mandatory minicamp next week for Ian Rapaport or what?
Ty Schmidt
I mean, he has to. Sounds like he has to by this week. Next time, otherwise they're going to say, no deal, you're done.
Pat McAfee
A.J. is he going?
Michael Cole
I mean, I think because Ian wants to make sure it doesn't interrupt any of his golf rounds. He would like him to report next week.
Pat McAfee
And we told him this jokingly that Aaron will follow along with his social media and see when he potentially. Oh, Ian, rap for taking a flight to Australia. Well, now's the time. Let's go ahead. He's not going to have any service. Let's go ahead and drop this out just because that's why anything is possible with Aaron Rodgers.
Darius Butler
Anything.
Pat McAfee
Aaron Rodgers plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They go to the playoffs?
Darius Butler
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Do they win a playoff game?
Darius Butler
No. AFC stack? I'm not sure.
AJ Hawk
AFC North?
Boston Connor
Yes and no.
AJ Hawk
They don't go. It doesn't matter. We've talked about something something for six months and the joke's on us because it won't even matter in the end.
Pat McAfee
What do you mean it won't matter?
AJ Hawk
Are the Steelers going to the Super Bowl? If Aaron Rodgers goes there, we're asking if they win a playoff.
Pat McAfee
I think some Steelers fans feel that that's possible.
AJ Hawk
Do you, Tony?
Boston Connor
No.
AJ Hawk
So does it really matter in the end?
Pat McAfee
What's the purpose of the season?
AJ Hawk
I mean, truly.
Pat McAfee
Hey, look, Danny Dimes.
Boston Connor
What's the purpose of life?
AJ Hawk
If I think most. I think most teams aren't afraid of the Steelers anymore. When it to comes, it comes to live, Aaron Rodgers.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
To live. And words to leave an impact.
Boston Connor
Yeah. And words are spells.
Pat McAfee
But words are spelled, okay? Because they can cast spells.
Boston Connor
True.
Pat McAfee
You're right. There's a lot of deepness to a lot of things.
Ty Schmidt
You better brush up on that. He's coming. He's coming, pal.
Pat McAfee
What do you mean that just all.
Ty Schmidt
The, all, all of his, you know, Rogerism some that he's, he's the last couple years. You better brush up on that, Tony, because guess what? You're gonna be regurgitating that every Monday.
Pat McAfee
Oh, Aaron, you got. I think you guys are gonna, I think they go on a run. I think they could go.
AJ Hawk
No you don't. No, you don't. You don't believe that for a sec.
Pat McAfee
Yes, I do. I met some of the boys. I like their vibes. Exactly. Yeah. So I, Cam Hayward was eating a salad, 8:07pm Post Malone concert, Jelly roll concert. That's all he's locked in, dialed in. I've never seen somebody, and I've said this before, with a T in their position in football eating a salad at a concert at 8:07pm in front of everybody. When there was chicken nuggies available, chicken wings available, pizza was available. There was some little egg roll roll things, little sandwiches were available. I mean you're talking.
Darius Butler
Cam would be great.
Boston Connor
I don't know. Roger was slinging at the end of last year. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yes. He was healthy, remember? He was skirting through too.
Boston Connor
Yeah, he was cast them spells on me.
Pat McAfee
See, Why's he always got to do that? Cuz now I don't think he's being serious.
AJ Hawk
Because dude, it's just. No, I'm pumped. I'm, I'm. It's gonna be one of these things where it's going to come to November and I'm going to remember this, this moment right here.
Boston Connor
This is fun.
AJ Hawk
Because just like holy, the offseason sucks so bad.
Boston Connor
That team that he's got on his hat that won three games last year is going to win 12 this year.
AJ Hawk
I, I, I think if you look at the schedule, it's much easier. And I, I would almost bet that yes, we'll be better than the Steelers. But again, just like I'm saying with.
Pat McAfee
You, our guys are eating salads 807. You guys are on boats doing drugs. That is not even drug.
AJ Hawk
But it doesn't matter either way because there's what, five 16s that can win the Super Bowl. Seven maybe.
Pat McAfee
Well, I'll tell you what. If this guy's spinning it at UCLA, is this new 319. You tell me if that looks new. Yeah, Good as yesterday. And a month before. When was the last time he threw football? We all know.
Darius Butler
Who knows?
Pat McAfee
We have no idea. Mike Stud, though. Played baseball at Duke, right?
Ty Schmidt
I bet. I bet. Mike studio running quite a few posts.
Pat McAfee
Couple of these. Yeah, couple of these. Couple of these.
Boston Connor
Late hands.
Pat McAfee
Be like dk. So he gets up on some stilts. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Does it.
Boston Connor
Maybe he gets the. The. You know, the paperclip legs.
Pat McAfee
Are you talking about for scout.
Boston Connor
Poor little Ting. Ting.
Pat McAfee
Oh. Oh, you're talking samurai sword legs. I still don't know why he was. All right, be your friend. Tell a friend something nice. That's what we're gonna do here. Not our friend, but I don't fully understand why he was allowed to race against everybody else.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I mean, he shouldn't have been.
AJ Hawk
Definitely not our friend. He's a piece of.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he tightened that thing up, too, maybe. Power drill. We were talking about that earlier.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Fourth race of the.
Boston Connor
Had a pit crew.
AJ Hawk
Never won any of them. Once again, didn't matter in the end, he did win.
Pat McAfee
I mean, to get the Olympics qualify, you got to beat somebody at some point. Sure.
Ty Schmidt
Put too much WD40 on one of them, and he ran, like, 78 miles an hour there, guy. We got to make this a little bit more believable. That guy's lapping the field in the 400.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
They had to put a governor on the guy.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, they did.
Ty Schmidt
He took the restrictor plate off for qualifiers.
Pat McAfee
So you like. You know how in hockey. You know, in hockey, you, like. You have so much bend on the stick.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
They monitor that same thing with those.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
This guy cannot have a full trajectory. See down there? Never get a cramp in his calf?
Ty Schmidt
No. Ever?
Pat McAfee
Never. Never ever. Tearing his killies feet. Never getting tired. Never hurting any. Like, that's all. I thought he was gonna win.
Ty Schmidt
Someone's a little bit ahead of him. He could slice their Achilles with the tip of his. You know, just watch him go down.
AJ Hawk
Lunge.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly.
AJ Hawk
I. I didn't. A lot of runners think about cutting their legs off.
Pat McAfee
No.
Darius Butler
I think their reporters.
AJ Hawk
On purpose?
Pat McAfee
No, I think it was just conversation. You started.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, No, I think.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think it was conversation between.
Michael Cole
Rubles after they cut them off.
AJ Hawk
Legs off.
Pat McAfee
All right, let's get out of here. We would like everybody to thrive. Do your thing. We'll be in Cary, North Carolina. It's going to be electrifying. I think I'm going to do a. I got some things happening Friday, Saturday as well that I think I'll be able to. I think what's about to happen just a standard week for me. Right? You don't want to talk about this. Yeah, this is just standard week. Standard week in my life. You know, I think I'm gonna post about it though, like live thread about what my life is at the time because I would like people to experience it with me and also understand that it's also stupid. Like when oh, oh, oh goes on a run down here in Carry North Carolina.
Darius Butler
I can't wait to see this in person.
Pat McAfee
Were you there last year?
Darius Butler
You didn't see it, did you?
Michael Cole
Oh, okay.
Darius Butler
In the piss earlier.
Ian Rapoport
It's good.
Darius Butler
But I was like, hey, what's the biggest game you playing? Oh, AFC championship with Gillette pills of comparison career North Carolina. So can't wait.
AJ Hawk
Why you doing right? Why you doing.
Ty Schmidt
I did say that word for word in the back.
Pat McAfee
What happened?
Ty Schmidt
I said to Debo, what's the biggest football game you ever played in your life? And he said AFC championship. Said okay, that's going to pale in comparison to what you're going to see and carry at tst.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you what, you're going to get lost on him.
Darius Butler
Can't wait.
Pat McAfee
You're going to get lost in like Post Malone gets lost in his lyrics.
AJ Hawk
Did you win that game?
Darius Butler
We got cheated.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we did.
Darius Butler
All right.
Pat McAfee
Still.
Darius Butler
Wait, run it back.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if we want to do that either. I've been seeing some of the guys on our team at that point.
AJ Hawk
It's also disproven. It wasn't cheating at all.
Pat McAfee
No, Bill Nye the science guy told me.
AJ Hawk
The liberal what? Which. Which Bill Ny?
Pat McAfee
What are you talking about?
Darius Butler
It's only one dude.
AJ Hawk
Oh no, I know a couple.
Pat McAfee
I said the science guy.
AJ Hawk
Oh, oh.
Pat McAfee
What are you talking about? What? I don't even know.
AJ Hawk
No, no. It got disproven by actually recipe sports Science Guy.
Pat McAfee
A legit resting for shoot.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, for shoot. Rest in peace.
Pat McAfee
He changed. I mean that changed sports coverage there. Yeah, legitimately. Great.
AJ Hawk
And it got disproven because they did the PSI test from the deflate gate game for every. Which they never did before the deflate gate game for every single game in 2015, the year after and every single game that the degrees dropped from the start of the game to the end of the game, the PSI changed.
Pat McAfee
So that's not what I heard. From potential political. I don't know what side affiliated.
AJ Hawk
No, I'm thinking of a different Bill. I don't know.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. I assume Bill NY is potentially on the side that you said, but I'm not 100% sure. I just know Bill Nye came out and said, might be the conservative, too. I don't know. I ran the numbers. I ran the numbers. This is cheating. And four years later, you get a suspension. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
And then the entire season, the next year, they. They ran the same test and they realized, yeah, it's not true.
Pat McAfee
And then he has one, two more. Jeez.
Darius Butler
Congratulations.
Michael Cole
The motivation they needed. That's all they needed.
Pat McAfee
They're down there in North Carolina, that crew.
Darius Butler
What crew?
Pat McAfee
Who?
Ty Schmidt
Bill and the voice.
Pat McAfee
Bill Belichick boat. Oh.
Michael Cole
Oh, you're right.
AJ Hawk
Well, be kind of a different crew. But, yeah, for the most part, I.
Pat McAfee
Think there's a lot of the members of the crew down. Aren't you.
Michael Cole
How far is it.
Pat McAfee
How far is Chapel Hill from, like.
Michael Cole
Ohio or from Cary? From Cary.
Pat McAfee
I think we're in the ballpark there.
Ty Schmidt
Stone's throw.
Michael Cole
Maybe he's doing, like, the anthem or something.
Pat McAfee
Bill.
Michael Cole
Yeah. That'd be a good way to kick it off.
Pat McAfee
You're the greatest. All right, this is the last. This is the last show from.
Michael Cole
Wait.
Pat McAfee
The halidome. Okay. I think we fall on the halidome.
Michael Cole
I like that.
Pat McAfee
I think we fall in the house. I like that. I like that.
Ian Rapoport
I don't know.
Pat McAfee
What about the rest of the boys?
Michael Cole
What about the other boys, though?
Pat McAfee
I hate it.
AJ Hawk
It's the thunderdome.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
AJ Hawk
We can't be scared. What are we living in our fears for? This isn't us.
Boston Connor
That reminds me. There's a lot of good Halle memes out there, right?
Michael Cole
True.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, exactly. The hallowedome probably has a lot of different connotations right now.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, well, they're. They're putting other things after hala a lot.
Ty Schmidt
And I'm sick and tired of seeing Tyrese dressed up like Osama bin Laden. Stop doing that. Okay, I get. It's funny. I'm sick and tired of seeing. Opening up my. And thinking, wait, is that. Oh, no, that's not. It's Tyrese with Osama bin Laden's beard and turban on.
Pat McAfee
I'm sick.
Darius Butler
Why are they doing that?
Ty Schmidt
I don't know. No, I don't get it.
Pat McAfee
I called him the Haliban.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Mr. Haliban.
Pat McAfee
Call him the halibut. Think about his dad.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
His dad opened up. Actually, I'M proud of my boy. I can't even sit courtside. Oh, that's calling him bin Laden.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Geez Louise.
Michael Cole
Is he leaning into that?
Pat McAfee
I don't think he's halibut.
AJ Hawk
SGA is.
Darius Butler
I've seen some of Shay, too.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, Shay's also. I mean, this is what it's like to be a young star in the social media age.
Boston Connor
Yeah, it is.
Pat McAfee
The jokes are to fly, and if one catches, everybody's going. Everybody's going, Runway.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
AJ Hawk
That's why I saw a lot of people worrying about Cooper Flag.
Pat McAfee
He's going to be a great player. He made 28 million.
Ty Schmidt
No chance in, like, your first 10 games, I think.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I.
AJ Hawk
And I signed a 10 day with the Pacer.
Pat McAfee
When this number gets reported, you know, like, it's just like, N nari Naiari, they're saying she's making a million bucks. It's like, how do we know that? What if it's more?
Boston Connor
Could be.
Pat McAfee
If it's less, you know, how do we. They just kind of ballpark what it potentially is? I don't know how, you know, like, Cooper Flag, how much money is he getting from Duke? How much money is he getting from a collective. How much money is he getting from local business shoes? Like, how, like, is he. He made 28 million. Congrats to him.
Darius Butler
That's crazy.
Pat McAfee
That's a lot of money.
AJ Hawk
I might have stuck around. Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
That's something to think about. Which is half happening in college football, which is why all these quarterbacks are growing older, because they're getting offered two, three, four million dollars to transfer as opposed to going to the NFL and be a third rounder? Third rounder, Fourth rounder. Do I want to do that or do I want to transfer and get 4 million from this place, play college football again, maybe win a national championship? It's like, it's affecting football for sure, the amount of money you make. But if Cooper flag is making 28 million at Duke, it's like, holy shit. You start looking at the future for a lot of these. Like Swagu's kid.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's got to make so much money. You hear his personality. He's miked up. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
He's mic'd up at the Team USA thing.
Pat McAfee
Beloved, it seemed like, by his teammates. Great personality, obviously very well connected in the world. And Swagu might have a. His daughter, I think is.
Ty Schmidt
She's like the number one volleyball player, isn't she?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. The son is now Team USA basketball player as a teenager. It's like, I think his wife, former WNBA player. Yeah, I believe we looked it up. Yep.
Darius Butler
And to him, he was number one pick. Top. Top football and basketball recruit coming out.
Pat McAfee
I didn't know he was top basketball recruit.
Ian Rapoport
Oh, yeah.
Michael Cole
Oh, yeah. He's an athlete, man.
Pat McAfee
He's great. I enjoy his personality too. He's not on TV a lot, though, because I think he's raising professional athletes. Yeah, keep going. Swagu. That's good parenting. I hope to be a part of that someday. Be your friend. Tell a friend something nice might change your life. We're live in Cary tomorrow. Tst. A million dollars on the line. AJ what's it sound like? What? You know What?
Michael Cole
What's what? Tst. I don't know.
Pat McAfee
A.J. what's it sound like?
Michael Cole
I'm. I'm genuinely confused right now.
Pat McAfee
Come on, come on.
Ian Rapoport
Oh, oh.
Michael Cole
Concave. There we go. We're to going.
Pat McAfee
All right, Team on me. Team on three. We'll see you tomorrow. Live from North Carolina. One, two, three. Goodbye.
