Hello beautiful people and welcome to our humble abode, the Thunderdome. On this commissioner running man double champ. Tuesday, June 1st or July 1st. Geez already spores. Holy hell yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, it is July 1st. Welcome to song Hell yeah. Rabbit rabbit to all of you. Obviously we are celebrating the hell out of a another day on this earth, another day alive. Another day closer to football season and another day of fantastic weather outside for us here Midwest. We hope the same for you. Let's enjoy the hell out of this glorious Tuesday. We got a lot of people stopping by. Okay. The Commissioner of the NHL will be joining us in about 15 minutes. Gary Bettman. We appreciate the hell out of you. Take care. A lot to talk about in the NHL. Obviously they just had their draft. I believe they have a CBA deal being done or finished negotiation a year early. So normally these types of things are very contentious, especially in the hockey world. They've had work stoppages, a few different ones that have kind of almost tanked the sport and the league as a whole. They've bounced back in a massive way, obviously high ratings. There's a lot of talk and conversation about the NHL and the great sport of hockey. And now they're talking about maybe expansion things and they get a deal done ahead of time whenever normally. It's a lot of this feels like hockey's on the rise. We talked to Ryan Smith, new owner of the Utah Mammoth, new franchise out there in Utah. And he says from what they're talking about behind the scenes at the NHL, everything's on the up into the right angle. So it's like I can't wait to talk to Gary Bettman about how he feels about the world. Quinton Richardson will join us in about 39 minutes or so. He 13 year NBA vet. There's a lot of things happening around the NBA.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Sean Shawnee says it's going to be the most craziest offseason ever. Sean Charney has been batting pretty good here thus far in most of the news or the stories that we should follow. Looking ahead during the playoff run, what he was telling us and forecasting the future would look like. Well, now there's an NBA player making $71.25 million a year. Congratulation. Congratulations to NBA champion, NBA MVP. Finals MVP. And now the new highest paid player in the history of sport. 71.25 million a year in salary. Congratulations to SGA. That's unbelievable. He's not the only one that got paid. Now granted, he got paid the biggest. Let's not get it twisted. Also on a contract year, on a potential extension year for him to go out and play the way he did, MVP like and then win through it all. He had to be seeing dollar signs all season long. The fact that he remained locked in on the most important year of his own personal life which also became the most important year of his professional life. We should be celebrating the hell out of $71.25 million a year. You've earned it bud. Congratulations. And if that's what they're paying good for the NBA as well. Nine year NFL vet Darius J. Butler is here. We have some quarterb kind of touching 60 obviously in the NFL. 1 1. Yeah but I think there's going to be. I think that's going to be the next kind of number that we get to 71, 25 in the NBA. First of all obviously MacKenzie's going to have a good jumper. If wife and I ever have a boy we're going to make sure. And we got that ball on a string. You know it feels like they're paying pretty good over there in the NBA.
Darius J. Butler
Yes they are and deservedly so. He moves the needle. He had a dominant season and it's a lot of times we get up here we see deals kind of come across X. We're like who is this guy? How is he getting 18, 20, 25 million a year? This guy getting 70 plus a year. He deserves it. He is fantastic. Had an unbelievable year. Finals mvp. Won the MVP and then winning the finals obviously all together. So got a shoe deal. I would be interested to see if he does more off the court. Maybe not with making all this money man, but he's a superstar and there'll be more deals like this right down the line and some other players in line to make north of 70 plus million dollars a year.
Pat McAfee
Who's that? What are you talking about?
Ty Schmidt
What are you.
Darius J. Butler
Devin Booker over there in Phoenix. He'll be El I believe in July 6th for a two year $150 million.
Pat McAfee
Quick math, that's 75 million a year.
Darius J. Butler
Congrats to him.
Pat McAfee
He's obviously earned it as well. And there's been a lot of NBA deals that have taken place over the last 12 hours. Connor will break them down here in a matter of moments. The toxic table is Boston Conner and Ty Senior today. Ty, a lot of money given out to sga. You got to love that.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, absolutely crazy. I mean shit, you look at these numbers, you know what. But it's a guy like Dale Sr. If I may. I mean if he was racing in. This time in nasc. We need NASCAR purses to get, you know, somewhere in the same stratosphere as these NBA guys. It's crazy. You look around all the other leagues. I mean, NFL, sure, but we're looking at big deals in the NHL, in the MLB. I mean, $71 million a year, are you kidding me? It just. It's crazy, but I love it. That's America, baby. That's. That's capitalism. That's what it's all about.
Pat McAfee
Ty, I don't think. I think a lot of people watching will say you seem to look and sound a little bit different today. Do you agree with that or no?
Ty Schmidt
Well, I'll tell you what. What you guys see on your. On your televisions every day, sure, that's. That's a version. Me, I'm wearing something very similar to this every night when I go home, when I put my head on my pillow. And it's 4th of July this week, right? Is it not? Are we not celebrating America this week? We will be at the end of the. Ooh, RA is right, obviously. Now, listen, I try to, you know, praise Dale and raise a little hell every day of the week, but on this Week, 4th of July, I. I just decided, hey, today's the day. You know what? I'm gonna let everybody kind of inside my world, and I'm gonna pay homage to the greatest American icon of all time, my goat of all goats, Dale Senior. I just. I don't think people are doing it enough. I think we're kind of getting to that point where everyone wants to talk about the Loganos of the world and guys like that. Joey Logano ain't got shit on Dale Senior. Okay? And then that's all due respect to Joey Logano, but I just, you know, I got my, you know, official Dale Senior, you know, fire retardant jacket here, and I'm. You may see me combust into flames today because I look so goddamn good, but that's why I had to wear it. You know, you're gonna sweat through it. You're gonna. You're gonna sacrifice a little bit for a guy like Dale Senior on a day like.
Pat McAfee
So when you go home at night, you're wearing that jacket, you told me every night. Do you talk like this as well whenever you go home?
Ty Schmidt
Honestly, I don't even now. I don't even recognize when I'm doing it. So you guys, like, I'll watch the tape back, obviously, after the show today. And maybe I do say, you didn't hear it there?
Darius J. Butler
No, it's kind of like Tyrese thing.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
He has two different dialects. Yeah, that's a pretty interesting.
Ty Schmidt
So I don't. I don't. I mean, to me, I sound the exact same I do every day. Now you guys are telling me I might sound, I don't know, a little more Southern fried. Maybe that's a thing. I don't know. Maybe I've been reading too many McGee articles. Maybe I've been watching, too.
Pat McAfee
Reading the articles?
Ty Schmidt
Well, yeah, because you got it, you know, you got to say it out loud in your head and whatnot. Maybe I've been watching, you know, too much. Marty McGee on the south with Parker McCollum. Exactly. Parker McCollum was on there. I've been listening a lot of country. Listen. It's summer. It's summertime. The weather's hot. So, you know, it does crazy things to people again. I mean, this is. This is my true self. And if you don't like it, you can go fuck yourself. Okay? Because I love it. I love it. I love Dale Senior. I love this jacket. I mean, it's intimidating. You love snowflakes.
Pat McAfee
Can you explain what the hell is going. How. Why are we doing this?
Ty Schmidt
Like I said, it's fourth of July. I mean, what do you mean? He's an American icon.
Pat McAfee
Let's go to one half of the Hammer Cowboys. He became a cowboy. You have somehow become one.
AJ Hawk
Listen, I think he drove in here hearing is Chevy Monte Carlo serviced by GM BF Goodrich earlier with the Sunoco gasoline and his Goodyear tires. I think you. I think you look incredible, my friend.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Ty Schmidt
All right.
Pat McAfee
YouTube battle. And he's got a South African accent. You got a southern accent.
AJ Hawk
So what happened is we got together last night. We watched. We watched the Earnhardt doc on Amazon that just came out recently.
Ty Schmidt
It was to die for. It is unbelievable. It's probably the best piece of content I've ever watched in my life. And I knew that going in, but I was just like, you know what? Let's just make sure. Let's just kind of take the temperature.
Pat McAfee
And it's on Amazon, right?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Four part series. It is unbelievable. All the stuff you thought you knew about Senior, I mean, it doesn't even scratch the surface of what was beneath that man. What was beneath the hood.
Pat McAfee
Did you learn anything about Dale? You know what?
Darius J. Butler
Once I. I saw. I saw it. I didn't watch it yet, but I wasn't a fan of motorsports until recently. Sure. Obviously saw Dale know of him. American Nikon as you said, right. You know, born in the 50s, born in the South. So immediately I go, I gotta do some research. I gotta do my own research. Went to ChatGPT, typed in some questions, some words, you know, some hot button topics maybe. And he came back clean. So, hey, Dale's good with me. Raise hell. Praise Dale. He is Black Knight. I had some friends growing up. You know, that was one of my nicknames, Black Knight. Don't ever call me that again. There's only one Black Knight and that's Dale. So, yeah, I can't wait to watch him and his son. His son's a good man too, man. His son's a great chat gbt. I didn't really Google anymore. Chat gbt. And they get. And look, once again, born in the South 50s.
Pat McAfee
Just have to see. Are you sure?
Darius J. Butler
Can you do a little more digging?
Boston Conner
Clean Phil, we're good.
Darius J. Butler
We're clean.
Pat McAfee
Okay. That's good news.
Darius J. Butler
Seems like that's all right. Look, I don't need anybody else doing any more research for me. My research is done. Dale's good with me.
Pat McAfee
Chat GPT looked into it. That's a wild time. We're in. He's having actual conversations with Chat GPT.
Darius J. Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
And Ty is walking in here, is impersonating Dale Earnhardt. Here is a picture of Dale Earnhardt senior, obviously. And then Ty. Are you sure, Ty? If we could get Ty next. Can we. Can we get a tie next to. What an honor this is for you right now.
Ty Schmidt
Unbelievable. Best day of my life. Best day of my dad gum life.
Pat McAfee
I like that. I like what you're doing.
Ty Schmidt
Are they gonna do it?
Pat McAfee
There we go.
Boston Conner
I mean, who's who? Drink a day in America Like a mirror.
Pat McAfee
Does this feel good for you?
Darius J. Butler
Even to Jack.
Ty Schmidt
This is. This is awesome. I'm not kidding. This is the best day of my life.
Pat McAfee
All right, we'll move on. We appreciate you doing that. And shout out to Amazon for the four part documentary because Ty did walk just like whenever Tone went into his Covid cave and came out like one of the best gamblers on earth because all he did was go through. And then he became a cowboy because he watched old buddy out there. Yellowstone. Yellowstone out there in Montana. So he just started wearing a cowboy hat. He became a cowboy through Covid. We called him the COVID cowboy. Now he's a hammer die cowboy alongside Bubba Gumpino in the back. You have kind of transformed Dale Earnhardt from watching one documentary, and I can respect that and I appreciate your love for him. Now Sitting next to you at Boston Conner. We were talking about it before Dale Earnhardt got into his pitch about NASCAR pools and prizes needing to get to the stratosphere of the NBA. There's a lot that has happened since the NBA free agency has kind of tipped off. We'll say yesterday SGA 71.25 million is Absur but that's he's not the only guy that got a shit ton of money. Con man. Yeah.
Boston Conner
Jaren Jackson Jr also signs a five year $240 million max extension. If you remember, the Grizzlies traded Desmond Bain to Orlando. He gets a big deal there so they have a little bit more money. Give it to him. I believe he won defensive player of the year either last year or the year before. The Grizzlies kind of one of those weird teams that fired their coach a year or a week before the playoffs started. Kind of a odd situation there, But Jaren Jackson Jr. Unbook. Unbelievable. Another guy that signed not as big of money deal but a big free agent. Everyone was kind of looking at Brook Lopez. He is going to la but he is not going to the Lakers. He's going to the Clips. Kind of a massive signing for them.
Pat McAfee
They are everybody thought Lakers because center.
Boston Conner
Yeah. That's kind of their number one priority right now. People are now looking at DeAndre 8 in really good highlight there of him blocking Pascal Siakam. That was weird. But. But Brook Lopez going to the Clippers master.
AJ Hawk
That was the last series he played it.
Boston Conner
They also extended James Harden two years, $82 million I think the Clippers. So Brooke Lopez and James Harden gonna be a dynamic duo. Yeah. Tough situation there to start but we.
Pat McAfee
Pick what highlights are going to be shown. Yeah. We don't need Pascal Siakam getting his sent boom to the goddamn rafters as the first one for Brook Lopez.
AJ Hawk
This is chronological order. I wanted to show the most recent things that he's done in the last series they played was against the Pacers.
Pat McAfee
I appreciate you guys. I app the video department keeping it honest, objective.
Boston Conner
I like to Tony's point. It was in the playoffs. Brook Lopez very good in the playoffs. Clippers need someone very good in the playoffs. They haven't been good in the playoffs as of recently. Staying with the Bucks. Damian Lillard towards Achilles in the playoffs and then got released. Kind of absurd. No one really saw this coming. This is the first, you could say most craziest offseason move arguably just because no one really saw this.
Pat McAfee
Kevin Durant to Houston kd.
Boston Conner
Yeah, but no one saw this one coming. K. KD was always getting moved. Giannis, you know, kind of up in the air. This comes out of nowhere. Giannis then tweets allegedly not very happy.
Pat McAfee
He's not sure Giannis didn't tweet that. Somebody reported that, right?
Boston Conner
He reported, but Giannis actually put out a tweet that had the 100 emoji. And then the caption on the photo said, I'm not sure what the hell is happening right now. And it was him celebrating in the locker room post championship. I think we're. We could pull that up. But also with the Bucs have to talk about it. Unfortunately for the Indiana Pacers, Miles Turner said, so long, Indiana. I'm not sticking around without Tyrese Halliburton playing next year. He's signing a four year, $107 million deal with the Bucks. Immediately after this was reported was when the Lillard release was reported as well. So the Bucs making moves, trying to keep Giannis happy. No one's really sure if he is happy or not, but at least they're trying. Feels like a lot of times teams won't even do anything to help their stars. And now with those, it kind of stinks for Andy with. With Turner leaving and kind of just looking ahead. Deandre A into the Lakers is kind of the next possible big move we could see because the Lakers still need a big man, especially if they want to keep LeBron happy.
Pat McAfee
That's interesting. Thank you for breaking it all down, the Miles Turner stuff to Milwaukee. I think the assumption was that he was going to stay with the Pacers basically throughout all of the playoff series, then game seven of the Finals, Tyrese Halliburton gets hurt and he's going to miss an entire season. I think that changes. This is not from any information. I'm just saying from all sources. Miles Turner and the Pacers were going to get a deal done. And then once season's over, I wonder if there was like a relook at like, what does next year look like? What does the future look like? What's right for Miles? What's right for the. So him getting paid. I'm happy as hell for Miles Turner. Obviously he's done a lot for the city of Indianapolis, the state of Indiana, the franchise, the Pacers as a whole. 10 years, 11 years here. I mean, Miles was great for the city and obviously got a chance to experience an NBA Finals run. Him getting paid with Milwaukee, I'm happy for. But I think all indications were that he was staying with the. With the Pacers. And then obviously, tragedy strikes for our star player. And then all of a sudden, what does the future look like now for the Pacer? I think that's potentially how that kind of unfolds there.
Boston Conner
Yeah, for sure. Especially because it's four years, $107 million. Like we. We talked throughout the playoffs how incredible it was that the Pacers were even where they were because of how far underneath the cap they were. So it's not as if a four year, $107 million deal is going to break the bank for any NBA team right now, really, especially with the cap going up. So it. A thousand percent had to be, hey, Tyrese isn't here next year. Next year is going to look much different in Indiana. Do you stay there? Milwaukee's just interesting because with the whole Giannis question mark, it's like, well, there's a question mark in Indy, but if you're going to Milwaukee, there's kind of a question mark there. Right. With their superstars, so you're taking a little bit of a risk. But I mean, shit, $107 million. It's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I wonder how many teams are offering him $107 million. I wonder what it all looked like for Miles. All I know is when Miles is on the defensive end, he's great. Yeah, he's unbelievable. He's a tall guy who actually plays defense, and he's been in a Carlisle offense, so he's had to run, you know, like Miles has had the run in this entire thing. And he can. And I don't want to say this in a negative way because a lot of people saw him in the finals, not really do it, but Miles can knock down threes. Like, he can very much do that. Like, that is something he is good at. And the pick and roll with Tyrese throughout a lot of the series was kind of like his play. So. So, I mean, Miles is still a.
Darius J. Butler
Very good player, kind of a younger version almost of Lopez. You know, he. He's going to be a force in the defensive end in the paint, and then he can stretch the floor with his shooting ability. Now, a lot of fans would have liked him, you know, get. Get to the basket more, you know, be a little more important, especially if.
Pat McAfee
The three's not falling with that frame.
Darius J. Butler
If those shots are not falling. But yeah, as you mentioned, with that Tyrese injury, now, that definitely changes the plan. So the Pacers got to do what's best for them. I think they got their first round pick, pick back as well. Right. Or a first round pick. Okay. Which could potentially, hopefully not with Tricky Ricky. They can figure it out, but could potentially be a lottery pick going forward.
Pat McAfee
Just have to change plans completely for the future whenever you lose your your supermax. Also star player in the last game of the season. Okay. We'll continue to talk about the NBA. Quentin Richardson will join us in about 30 minutes or so to chit chat about what's going on around the association. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen. Ladies and gentlemen, is one of the commissioners of one of the biggest leagues on earth. He's been a commissioner for a long time now, has seen a lot of things, but I don't know if he could have projected how popular the league is and how popular the sport is, or the fact that he could potentially get a CBA negotiation done a year early. Ladies and gentlemen, the commissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettman. How you doing, boss?
Gary Bettman
I'm doing great and it's always great to be with you because I love the fact that you're such a fan.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Lucky to grow up in Pittsburgh. Obviously had a lot of great times. Hockey was good to my family, my community, and the sport is obviously spectacular. Let's talk about the state of the sport. It feels like, and I mean we can dive right into the Four nations right now, but at that Four nations moment, it feels like that was a real like kickstarter to hockey becoming a huge part of Americana thinking and buying into the fact about how great the sport is. Do you agree with that notion and do you feel like the sport in the league is more prominent now than maybe ever in the United States of America?
Gary Bettman
I think over the last three decades we've seen an upward trajectory pretty consistently, but every now and then there's been an extra boost. And whether it was outdoor games or going to the Olympics, which we used to do 10, 15 years ago, and we're going back to what worked so well on Four nations was the pent up demand for international best on best competition. We think we do that as well, if not better than anybody. And it was something that was really important to our players, which is why when you saw the event, you could see that they were all in. Which is why I guess it drew such positive comparisons to All Star Games in some of the other sports. At the end of the day, this meant a lot to the players to represent to their countries. And they showed it in the way the competition played out. And they showed it even after Four nations was over. Based on the number of players that came back to Their NHL teams injured.
Pat McAfee
I know that you don't love the stage fighting, I believe, is what the NHL would like to get rid of. The booing of a national anthem leading immediately to a fight, I think was great for all parties. I think it was great for all parties. But you mentioned there Tkachuk got hurt leaving there. Tkachuk was like Captain America in there. Now, obviously he's on the Stanley cup champions. He's one of the leaders of the Stanley cup champs, and he would get back for the playoffs and obviously another Stanley cup run. But they were leaving it all out there for this thing, for their country. And I think people learned about, like the players that are, that make up the NHL and how great your sport.
Gary Bettman
Our players are great. And whether it's just playing hockey for the love of the game or trying to win the most iconic trophy and the hardest championship to win in the Stanley cup or representing their countries, they don't do anything half or three quarters ways. They do it at 110%. And, you know, the good news was with the booing of the anthems and the issues between the US And Canada at the time, we got through that. By the time we got to the playoffs, there were no booing of anthems, whether in the US Or Canada. And people were just focused on the hockey and the players were focused on winning. And, you know, I don't know for a fact, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tkachuk was still injured by the time he came back to play in the playoffs. Although, as you know, our players, you know, they play injured all the time and particularly in the playoffs. And that's what makes our game so great, the commitment that our players have to their teams, to their fans, and to winning.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. The culture of the league is ultimately shown by its players, I believe. And your players are all dogs. And you talk about playing hurt. We'll get reports after a team exits the playoffs. And I'm like, this guy had a fractured sternum, also had a broken foot. They were literally just propping his ass up on skates and pushing them onto the ice. It's like you don't hear like that anymore about any other sport other than hockey.
Gary Bettman
I don't think you ever heard that in any other sport. Although I assume when you referred to dogs, that was a good thing.
Pat McAfee
Yes, yes. Dogs are good, Gary. Dogs are good. D A W, G S. I just.
Gary Bettman
Want to make sure.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. D A W G S. Not D O G S. D O G S Too good. I got a couple of those Chuck, Valerie, they're good dogs and all that. Let's talk about. You talked about Tkachuk and you talked about Lord Stanley cup obviously and how remarkable it is. We had a chance to hang out with it here one day and obviously the stories of the Stanley cup and Darius J. Butler is obviously reaping the benefit of winning another one. What is your thought? Congrats to the Florida Panthers. I'm going back to back.
Darius J. Butler
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
And now with Zito signing everybody back, it's like we're obviously in the middle of a dynasty here. We have to talk about that. Not every league loves dynasties. I think there's some leagues that are making rules so dynasties don't happen. I think obviously the NFL had the New England Patriots for a long time. The Chiefs can still be in the middle of making one. But it's very difficult, especially with salary cap and money and business and how everything has to go. How does the league yourself feel about this Florida Panthers team, especially because how good they represent hockey. I think as a whole, you know.
Gary Bettman
Whether or not dynasties are good or bad, my view in sports is it is what it is. And if a team can excel to do what the Panthers have done three years in a row in the Stanley cup final, winning back to backs, they're looking very strong as we project ahead for next year having re signed the three important free agents. The stories are what it's all about. It's what takes place on the ice that makes it great. And if they can pull off a 3 repeat, that will be remarkable. But we've always prided ourselves, particularly in the last 20 years post salary cap, that our competitive balance is extraordinary. The races to get into the playoffs at the end of the regular season, we had three teams that didn't know their playoff status to the last game of the regular season. And I think that's what's compelling and that's what brings fans to the game. If in fact the Panthers can do it again, kudos to them. And it's a testament to the players and to what is being done by management and ownership to give all the resources and to build a team that has this chemistry, making all the right decisions. So you know, we've had a couple of back to backs over the years, but overall we see lots of changes. Changes. At least five different teams, I think over the last 10, 15 years, with one exception, we've had at least five different teams turn over in the playoffs every year. And I think that's great for fans because we want our Fans to know that no matter who you root for, your team is a shot of making the playoffs. And then once the playoffs begin, anything can happen.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, hope. You want your teams to have hope. That is legit. And speaking of hope, South Florida has become that. Here's Darius, obviously, lifelong fan.
Quentin Richardson
Absolutely.
Darius J. Butler
On that note, Gary, Panthers came into existence a couple years after you became the Commish. Are there any examples? I told the boys up here like you, I never would have thought in a million years. I know we went in 1996, but I never would have thought in a million years that we would be back to back champs and have a dynasty in South Florida. It was almost like not a joke of a franchise. But you had the heat, you had the Dolphins. Is there any example for you with the fanfare and the buzz down there compared to what has been, I guess, the last few decades?
Gary Bettman
Well, a couple of things. One, since Vinnie Viola took over as owner, and you'll always hear me say that it all starts with ownership, Vinnie and his family have been all in. Whether it's building a new practice facility and renovating the War Memorial in Fort Lauderdale, whether it's bringing in Bill Zito to put this team together, whether it's everything they do in the community, the Viola family has been nothing short of sensational. You see the same thing in Tampa with Jeff Vinick. It's not about state taxes, it's about ownership. And I think, and I think it does a disservice to the great work that's being done to think that that's what makes the difference in the team, it doesn't. Players have lots of reasons for picking or not picking teams to go to. If you look at what Daryl Cates has done in Edmonton since he's taken over with the Oilers. But even if you look at things like the Samuels owning the Anaheim Ducks, where they did bring a Stanley cup champion when they bought the team, I think there were five or six high school teams in Orange county and now there would be between 50 and 60. Ownership commitment to fans and the community, giving. Giving teams the resources, whether it's the coaching staff of the practice facilities or everything they do around the game, all of it makes a difference. And that's what players look for when they're deciding, when they're free agents, where they want to play.
Pat McAfee
You become an ambassador of the sport as a whole, let alone an owner of the league, especially for that area, South Florida. A lot of talent in athletics. I wonder if it'll translate into hockey someday. Maybe with Kachuka and the boys with what they're able to build now, that naturally leads to a question of something that has been kind of reported about expansion in the NHL. I heard there's a couple cities. Austin, Houston, Atlanta. What's that fourth one, Gary? What's the fourth one?
Gary Bettman
There are probably eight cities that, you know, we've heard from Indianapolis, we've heard from Cincinnati, we hear from Quebec City. The list goes on and on. We're not focusing on expanding right now. I'm not going to issue an edict that says if you want an expansion team, file your application by this date. I think the most important things at 10,000ft in expansion are ownership, which we've just talked about, market, arena, and what does it do to make the league stronger, improve our footprint? Because we're a little bit different than the other three major sports in that. Of our 32 teams, seven are in Canada, which is a good thing because of how strong the game is in Canada. We're like, if. If you want to draw a comparison, we're like, the NFL is in the US Based on how we are in Canada. Just look at the last national deal we just did a couple of months ago with Rogers.
Pat McAfee
If somebody wants to deal, no big deal. You just say, just a subtle flex right there. That was a subtle flex out of you, Gary. Yeah, it was like, just look at the Rogers deal. What's going on up there?
Gary Bettman
Little flex. Okay. If somebody can check those four boxes and wants to do a deep dive, then I'll take it to the owners and we'll consider it. I'm not pressuring anybody. We're not giving deadlines. If it's going to be right, it'll be right. And if we wait a while, if ever, to do any more expansion, that's okay, too, because our 32 teams have. Have never been healthier, never been better owned, never been more supported by their fans.
Pat McAfee
All right, I'll get to work for Indianapolis. I assume some others will as well. Let's talk about the game continuing to grow, and obviously, you're big in Canada. International growth, obviously, always a forefront of conversation. Go ahead, Connor.
Boston Conner
Yeah, Gary. Pat mentioned the Four nations this past season, and as someone from Boston, I actually was able to go to the Four nations final thanks to Pat and seatgeek. And for the city one, it was incredible. And then, of course, the product was unbelievable. So when it comes to the World cup of Hockey, when. When you're thinking of what cities to host it, I personally would say Boston's probably the place you want to keep it. The Northeast just makes more sense, I would say. And you know, real true hockey fans up there. But what are you looking for exactly with the World cup of Hockey kind of selection when it comes to the city? And what do you expect for those eight nations kind of those teams to be like.
Gary Bettman
That's a great question. Boston and Montreal were great hosts. The history, the tradition, the connection to hockey in those cities is unbelievably strong. We just put out requests for proposals for cities both in Europe to host a portion of the World cup and in North America. And so we'll see what comes back. But to get everybody up to speed, we're going to be on a cycle next season. We're going to the Olympics in Milan. Two years later we'll do a World Cup. Two years after that we'll go back to the Olympics and then two years after that a World Cup. So we, with the players association, who we do this with, are committed to getting a regular schedule of best on best for our players. It's great for the game, it's great for our fans and most importantly, our players really want it.
Pat McAfee
You just said you and the Players Association. I mentioned it in the introduction, but we haven't really got a chance to chat about it a year early. Now granted, it hasn't been voted on, I don't think it's officialized, but there's been a lot of reports that basically, hey, we got a deal. I think on, on NHL.com it says we've agreed to terms or something like that. So we don't know exactly where it is in the process. We do know it is about a year ahead of schedule. That never happens. Never, never happens in hockey. You guys have had work stoppages before because of labor disagreements. Now, games at a strong level, league's at a strong level. And it feels like your guys partnership is at a strong level with the players as well.
Gary Bettman
You're absolutely right. So let's take it at a couple of points. One, we have an agreement in principle subject to ratification both by the players and by the teams. And that process is ongoing. We've had an interesting history of labor relations, including as I think everybody knows, 20 years ago we had to lose an entire season to get the system that we have in place, which is the salary cap with revenue sharing. We have a new executive director. I think he's been in between two and three years. Marty Walsh, former mayor of Boston, huge fan of the game, former secretary of labor in the United States and he's run unions before he had his political career, and we have a terrific relationship. He is very collaborative, very professional. We don't necessarily agree on everything, but we know how to deal with the process. And Marty is of the belief that it's great for everybody, including the players, if we're all on the same side and we're working to grow the game. And with a year left in our collective bargaining, we managed to work collaboratively together to have a good collective bargaining process, which started around the end of February, the beginning of March. And I think we made a deal that is good for the players moving forward, make some adjustments for the teams. That's good moving forward. And I think it says a lot about the state of the game and the growth that we can have with this terrific foundation and predictability. Because nobody now has to worry about what happens in collective bargaining over the last year of the current agreement, which happens in most sports. Then start. It's a distraction. And I think together we managed to go through a really good process.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, especially with your advertising partners, too, not having a threat of potentially losing a season with negotiations like, hey, everything's kumbaya with players and us, how come buy out. We get a deal done which is worth hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars a year early. That's insane to think about. It's very abnormal, though, right? This is. Did it surprise you whenever it was like, man, this feels like an actual partnership here. Let me explain my story, my stance on this, Gary, just so I can explain it to you. When I got drafted to the NFL, they send you to a rookie symposium. Okay. Like a week later, rookie symposium. My year just so happened to be demoris Smith's first time speaking to, like, a group of players. And what he said is, we're about to get into CBA negotiations, there's going to be lockout or whatever, and we need to fight, fight them. We need to fight them on everything. And my first thought is, a person that is interested in business, it's like, man, just fighting your business partner. Doesn't feel like the right play. Lo and behold, a lot of disagreements, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Then we move forward. I wasn't as naive. I was naive at the time. I learned, like, oh, there's fights in every one of these. It's like 32 lawyers taking on the player lawyer, and they're fighting for every inch. We can drop a THC testing level.05%. What do we have to give up? Well, 45 days of work on the other. It's like everything is just like tooth and nail. I don't think that makes sense personally from a business perspective. So whenever this starts happening with the players, are you surprised and excited? I assume at the same time.
Gary Bettman
Well, listen, we've had our battles, people credit me. I use that word in quotes. With three lockouts, if you don't have a partner who gets the big picture and is willing to engage, you're going to have disharmony on the climate collective bargaining fund. Fortunately, Marty Walsh and we've developed a great relationship, and as I said, while we don't agree on everything, we know how to deal with that. He gets the big picture, which says you need a healthy business for it to benefit everyone, particularly including his members in his union, namely the players. And so, first of all, nobody would ever accuse you, you of being naive. But more importantly, you've got the big picture, and that's how we've managed to come together. And in that regard, Marty and I are on the same page in terms of what we need to do is do the things that will help grow the game at all levels for the benefit of everybody, not just the players of the league, but for our fans as well.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but it's whatever the league knows. Like, hey, we can build. We got to work slow still, like, that's a good thing. Like, I think some leagues get to a point where they think they're big and they don't do all the other stuff, and then all of a sudden, people start talking bad about your league. It's like, I appreciate the fact that you guys acknowledge it. I love that the players are on board. The Olympics is a good idea because that's going to be some hockey that some people have never seen the sport before. And if they're watching, like, the best of the best play, it's like, yes, this is a sport I love, you know?
Gary Bettman
And by the way, you're 100% right. I agree with you. But. But stopping in the middle of the season for two weeks is a bit of a disruption and it's hard to deal with. But on balance, it's something we think is important to work our way through the deal. Terms have a. They're either being finalized with the double ihf, the International Ice Hockey Federation, and the International Olympic Committee, either today or tomorrow. And in fact, Deputy Commissioners Commissioner Bill Daley is in Zurich today to deal with that very issue. So we know it's important. We know it's not without its difficulties, but on balance, it's important, and that's why we manage the complexity of it all.
Pat McAfee
That was awesome. I just heard what the owner said. Yeah, yeah. Olympics. Awesome, awesome, awesome fun. We might lose 30, $40 million player, and we got to stop our league. Okay, that is a. That is hilarious. Okay, we got another rule that we think should be put in place. Tone 1/2 of the Hammer Cowboys from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Gary. There was some unfortunate, untrue rumors last week that Sidney Crosby was going to be traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now, they were untrue, but just so we don't have it again in the future, can you make a rule in the NHL that Sid is not allowed to be traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins, please? But. Go ahead.
Gary Bettman
Sorry, Sid. Kid has been unbelievable for the game, on and off the ice. He's been unbelievable for Pittsburgh. My guess is if he ever moved, and I have no reason to believe he would, it would only be because he wants to go to a situation to finish out his career. I'd be surprised if he ever moved. And I know how important he is to Pittsburgh, and I know how important Pittsburgh is to him. So, you know, in this era of social media, where anybody can put out anything, you really have to verify before you get all wound up about something.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I'm telling you. Yeah. You're not just in this situation. That's every single day out there on the Internet. There's a lot happening that you got to kind of keep your eyes peeled for. And obviously, you two have celebrated a couple different times about what. Yeah, you look good. Look at you. Are you natural?
Gary Bettman
He's much younger than.
Pat McAfee
Hey, Gary, we will say this. We've been noticing. I don't know if you've been noticing. Feels like round of applause, not the draft. You're gonna get your ass booed. I think that's just normal. But I think people. Hockey world's, huh? Don't you think? I think hockey world's like, hey, Gary, you're doing it.
Gary Bettman
Actually, I get booed. No, actually, it's a sign of affection, definitely. If they ignored me, I'd be concerned from getting booed. It means they're paying attention.
Pat McAfee
Commissioners have to make tough decisions against fan bases and teams. So you're obviously putting that spot, especially with work stoppages. But I would like to let you know, from us reading the tea leaves from outside looking in, it's like Gary Bettman, to use a wrestling term, kind of a baby face right now in the hockey world, I think you're. You've done great things for league and sport. I think people See that, Gary?
Gary Bettman
You know, thank you for saying that. And by the way, getting booed at the draft in LA Friday night was worth it to see moments like Matthew Schaefer coming up and the emotion of him being drafted. And we talked about that. When he came up to see the ovation that Meredith Goudreau got when she came to meet the Columbus pick to see Charles Barkley and Adam Sandler participate on behalf of Philly in Boston. There were some really great moments. Yeah, okay. We switched from a centralized draft to decentralized. Steve Mayer tried some things to make us look a little bit different than what other leagues do. But you know what? Unless you try some things and even stumble a little, you don't get to a great place. So, on balance, we had a very impactful and meaningful draft.
Pat McAfee
We watched. We thought there was a lot of clips, too, that came from it, which is obviously very important for the modern era of media. And I'd like to say, as somebody that talks into a microphone on a regular basis, you hosting that thing, not bad. You were walking people to things. You were tired. I mean, you were hosting out there. Gary, welcome to the show. Welcome to the league. How we doing? Let's send over here. I thought you did a great job. Thank you.
Gary Bettman
I actually had fun. You know, I didn't sit down for five hours, and so when I finally sat down, I couldn't get up. But, you know, at my advancing age, you got to be a little careful. But seriously, we had a good time. I think the people in LA who attended the draft had a good time, and we actually sent out a survey to see if our clubs were happy with. With the decentralized draft or they want to go back. My guess is, on balance, we're going to keep doing what we did, and it was a lot of fun.
Pat McAfee
All right, well, we appreciate it. Congrats on another successful NHL season. Can't wait to see what's in store. And congrats to whatever expansion city puts together the proper pitch deck and says, this is a city that should have an NHL team, because if the NHL comes to your town, there's a lot of greatness coming alongside of it. I was fortunate to grow up in Pittsburgh. I love watching the league. Thank you for taking time for us to have a conversation.
Gary Bettman
Always great to be with you, and thanks for all you do to cover all sports, but especially ours.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you what, I wish I could skate. I can't skate.
Gary Bettman
I saw Pat Maroon never, never too late to learn.
Pat McAfee
I don't Know, I think it is. All right. Ladies and gentlemen, commissioner of the NHL, Gary B. Batman. Thanks, buddy. Yeah, the Olympics is fun, okay? It's fun. I could lose my most expensive. My entire roster that I paid. And also, it's two weeks in the middle of the season. What, are we even. Yeah, Olympics is fun, okay? We're the idiots. We're the main ones, okay? We got a league to run here. We got a business we're doing. Yeah.
Boston Conner
Kachuk came back. It was awesome. Charlie McAvoy out for the year after. After four nations damn near blew up the Bruins. If there's an expansion team in Quebec City, I'm out.
Pat McAfee
What?
Boston Conner
I'm out.
Gumpy
There's already been a team in Quebec.
Boston Conner
Exactly.
Gumpy
The Nordics. Eric Lindrell tried and failed.
Boston Conner
Okay, it's time to bring a team here. Indianapolis is in the center of the country. They just put on a show for the NBA Finals. You see how rhombus of an atmosphere that is? And I don't know. Can they play hockey in Cambridge? I saw some people saying they can't.
Pat McAfee
What? Yes, they can.
Boston Conner
Yes, they can.
Pat McAfee
They have to be able to. They had hockey games there before they put.
Boston Conner
They put hockey place in the. In the freaking Jumbotron wasn't even centered on the ice. Okay, so you can put hockey anywhere. Don't tell me about that.
Darius J. Butler
What's the name? What would be the mascot?
Pat McAfee
I don't know. I've gone through a couple different thoughts of what an NHL team could look like here. Gone through many different iterations. I don't know if today's the day.
Boston Conner
I mean. I mean, today it could be the Indian out was Dales. No, no, put that face.
Pat McAfee
What did you think about Commissioner Bettman?
Ty Schmidt
Well, that's what I was going to say. If we're going to do a team. Listen, we've seen the. The success of the Hurricanes down in Carolina. Okay. Why not go over to Kannapolis, North Carolina, birthplace of Dale Earnhardt Senior. Are you kidding me?
Pat McAfee
The. That's where you want a hockey team?
Boston Conner
Kannapolis.
Ty Schmidt
Goddamn right. North Kapis, N.C. of the. The North Carolina Intimidators. I love it personally.
Pat McAfee
Would it just be sunglasses on hockey skates?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I think.
Boston Conner
What?
Ty Schmidt
Or a helmet. You know, you got the.
Pat McAfee
You got the helmet.
Ty Schmidt
Hockey bucket with the. Yeah, the Intimidator shades.
Pat McAfee
Skates stick.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, black and red. I mean, you know. Sorry, sorry. Hurricanes. I know. You already got that color scheme, that paint scheme, if you will.
Pat McAfee
What city is this again?
Ty Schmidt
Kannapolis, North Carolina.
Pat McAfee
A lot of great things in Kannapolis.
Ty Schmidt
Well, the greatest thing, the intimidator was born there. Now he, he obviously moved around a bit. He, you know, spent his time in the Carolinas. I thought, you know, Commissioner Bettman was pretty good. I did want to let him know though that I don't think it's fair that as a, you know, Vegas Golden Knights super fan, I should be, I should be jacked up. I should be pumped up. They just landed Mitch Marner who's arguably, arguably the crown jewel. How'd you guys get him, period? Well, that's what everybody's saying. Instead of being jacked up, I'm, I'm red assed. Because now they're talking about collusion and allegations of tampering. What it's like, hey, listen, just because Bill Foley is willing to spend a little bit more money than some of these cheapskates maybe up in Toronto, I mean it really does, it kind of reminds me, you know, back in the early 80s when, hey listen, Childress Racing, they decided to spend a little bit more money to get Dale Senior in there. Okay. They're sure there are a couple other teams who, you know, maybe could have gotten and was there collusion there? There, was there a little bit of tampering there maybe? I don't think we should be penalizing these team owners who are willing to spend a little bit more cash in order to, you know, chase a title. I just, I think it's like I said, it's got me red ass.
Pat McAfee
You were going to try to get to the bottom of it there with the commission.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. I just want to say, hey, listen, Garrett, maybe nut up and just say, you know what, Bill, you're good. You spent a little bit more money if, if Toronto wanted him. And you know what I'm seeing today, you know, they're whining because he's leaving, but then on the flip side, oh, you're gonna love this guy. He's a choker in the playoffs. He sucks. He's never won anything.
Pat McAfee
That's the guy Vegas likes.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly, exactly. Bring all the misfits down to Vegas and guess what? Bill Foley will pay a little bit more for him.
Pat McAfee
No taxes either.
Ty Schmidt
That's right.
Boston Conner
In his Vegas.
Pat McAfee
I love Gary Bettman saying I'm about sick of people talking about state income tax being the reason why people are doing things now. Is it helping? Maybe. But there's a lot of talent talent happening. A lot of the Florida Panthers players taking a little bit less money than they probably could elsewhere to stay down In Florida. And you got to think it's not just the tax. It's also probably the opportunity to ride around golf carts. Everybody's different house. Without doubt, we'd all get along.
Ty Schmidt
Lifestyle's way cool.
Pat McAfee
They're actually on vacation all day, every day, whenever they want to be. And then they go to work and work their asses off. And then they hop in a pool and have strawberry margarita with the boys.
Darius J. Butler
Don't sound too bad.
Boston Conner
People of colada.
Pat McAfee
The South Florida thing is really interesting. Really, really interesting.
Boston Conner
Why isn't their football team better?
Pat McAfee
Well, there's a lot of distractions, I think, for the football team.
Ty Schmidt
Little different, certainly. Daytona's close.
Pat McAfee
What's a little different?
Darius J. Butler
Well, you know what, speaking of somebody that was in Vegas, we got a tight end. We were in the tight end market.
Pat McAfee
We got Darren Waller, remember, of Miami.
AJ Hawk
Dolphins got better today.
Boston Conner
We did kick that.
Pat McAfee
Congratulations to the Dolphins bringing in a player as opposed to sending players away from their team. John Hugh Smith ends up with the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday in a trade that involved Jalen Ramsey, Minka Fitzpatrick. A fifth and a seventh round, I believe. Swapped. And now Darren Waller back playing football for the Miami Dolphins. I'll tell you what, the guy's mind as a lyricist, phenomenal. When you talk about athlete, musician, rappers, he's good. He's very good. And on the football field when he was in Vegas and I believe before that. But Gruden pulled him up off of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. Jon Gruden, whenever the Raiders were taking on the Baltimore Ravens, saw Darren Waller doing a workout pregame because he was on the practice squad, and he said, what is that? I would like that Darren Waller then become Pro Bowler All Pro with the Raiders. Obviously immensely athletic, incredibly talented. We've seen his life off the field a lot. We've seen. We know a lot about Darren Waller, but if he can get. If McDaniel can get the most out of Darren Waller. Waller, I think that type of offense suits well for Darren.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Personally.
Boston Conner
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
Now, now, is he. Is he all the way back to being a guy? We shall see. Dumpy, how do you feel about Darren Waller coming into town?
Gumpy
I mean, you trade a Pro bowl tight end, what do you do? You get another Pro bowl tight end.
Ty Schmidt
You know, he doesn't.
Pat McAfee
Period.
Boston Conner
Yeah.
Gumpy
What do you want me to do?
Boston Conner
I mean, you know, people are saying.
Gumpy
Never seen a team with so much uncertainty going into a season.
Pat McAfee
Season.
Gumpy
We haven't won a playoff game in 24 years. Has there ever been any certainty?
Pat McAfee
Maybe uncertainty Is not a bad thing.
Glenn Powell
Yeah, maybe.
Pat McAfee
Who knows?
Gumpy
We don't know.
Darius J. Butler
That's who we are.
Pat McAfee
We got a tight end.
Gumpy
We needed a tight end.
AJ Hawk
That's where we're at.
Pat McAfee
All right, let's pivot away from the NFL. Congrats to Darren. We're happy you're back in the league. We hope you're happy, brother. Whatever the case, hope you're happy. Enjoy your life. He's an incredible football player. If he's playing good football and that offense with all the motions and with how fast he can run, that feels like a good spot to land in. And we'll see if they can connect. Let's pivot to the NBA. A lot of money being given out. We've talked about this a lot, but it needs to be reiterated. The National Basketball association has a team in it that has given one player $71.25 million a year. A year in the world that we're in right now. Joining us is a 13 year NBA vet, friend of the program. Ladies and gentlemen, Quentin Richardson Richards Q, obviously co host of the Night Knuckleheads podcast. Please shout out D Miles for us. Whenever you see 71.25 million, you just do this to SGA. You congratulate him. How do basketball players view this type of breakthrough type contract happening?
Quentin Richardson
Absolutely, man. I mean, all of us are saluting this. This is a, this is a monumental deal. The biggest deal in the history so far. And the other part of it is that as I understand, he doesn't even have an A. So he, he, he gone ahead and pay a couple lawyers do, you know, look, helping with some contracts and he, he bring that all to the fam. That's, that's pretty dope right there. Sga.
Pat McAfee
I love that for SGA on a contract year to play the way he did and for his team to play the way they did. Congrats to him on getting the bag. Okay, let's talk about a couple of the other stories around free agency that has really caught your eyes. What are some teams we should be looking at or situations that maybe we should spend a little time learning about?
Quentin Richardson
Man, H town. Houston went crazy yesterday. You know, I mean, obviously it started with getting kd and you know, they signed Stephen Adams a little earlier in the. In the off season. But yeah, the moves they were able to make and to get KD without having to give up some of the, you know, they. Bigger pieces like Shangoon and then they go get Clint Capella and sign Van Vliet back and then they Steal Dorian Finney Smith from the Lakers like that. That was a shocking move to me. I didn't, I didn't foresee them being in the position to do that. So I think they, they've gone all in this year and trying to position themselves to, you know, compete with OKC for the west and to try and get a chip.
Pat McAfee
Most craziest offseason ever has Kevin Durant moving from Phoenix to Houston and then Houston continuing to make plays. They were the number two team in the West, I believe, this past season. Also very young. And they re signed Imei to a massive deal down there. Looks like the Houston Rockets are ready to cook down. Houston, Atlanta, Vegas. Congratulations to them. You just mentioned Finney or Dorian Finney coming from the Lakers. Let's talk about the Lakers a little bit. Ty Schmidt, Ty Senior has a question for you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Q. Rich, just curious. I know the Lakers were pretty keen on bringing in Brook Lopez. He was kind of like the, maybe, I don't know, the centerpiece, you know, of, of their offseason. Now we're hearing Ayton maybe obviously he's from the LA area, went to Stanford leaves and he's coming back home. How much of a needle mover is he for the Clippers and do you think they did this kind of solely to maybe get one over on the Lakers? And also how much does this remind you of maybe like Dale Senior leaving Bud Moore Engineering and going back to Childress Racing like he did in the late 90s?
Quentin Richardson
It does not remind me anything about Dale Senior and, and because I'm not into the NASCAR racing, but I do know who Dale Earnhardt is, but I have no recollection of the, of the, of the moves you're talking about back and forth. So I don't know about that. But on the basketball front, I, I don't, I think, I think the Clippers did that because it's, it's a great move. They got Brook Lopez as a backup. He's not, he, you know, I'm saying he's not, he's not going to be coming there to he's going to be backing up Zubak. So I think he realizes that, you know, possibly he wanted to be back home and I think it's a bad look for the Lakers that, you know, Brook Lopez chose a backup role to Zubak over a situation where he could possibly have been the starter for the Lakers. And I think that says something.
Pat McAfee
Let's stay with the Lakers. D. But has a question for you.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah, I want to Know, number one, what does that say about the Lakers in their future, how they're going moving forward and then obviously the biggest piece over there as far as name brand LeBron. What do you see LeBron's future? Do you think it's kind of much ado about nothing, he'll be a Laker when this season comes, or do you think it's actually a possibility that he moves on?
Quentin Richardson
I think LeBron is a Laker. I think he wouldn't have opted in if he didn't want to be a Laker. I think you know what I'm saying, he had all of the power to opt out and then to be a free agent and to go where he wanted to go. So I think he'll be a Laker. But as far as what it says about Brook Lopez making that decision and Dorian Finney Smith leaving, I think it says that there's uncertainty about what's going to happen as far as Luka and what's happening and just the look and feel of the team because Zorian Finney Smith is a guy who was there for half a season. So if he liked what he saw or unless the contract wasn't going to be matched or something like that, I wouldn't see him moving and leaving there. But with him making that move and just being there, I think it speaks to the uncertainty of the guys around the league and the guys around that team knowing what's actually going to happen there, whether it's with LeBron, Luke or whatever.
Pat McAfee
I wonder how this team looks this year going in. You know, Rich Paul's quote to Sean Sharan, you're very interesting. Hey, we're just monitoring this thing. He only has a few years left. We'll see a couple of years left. We'd like to be for championships with Luca. I automatically assume you at least have a chance at a championship each year. I guess we'll have to monitor situation in Los Angeles from L. A to the East Coast. Let's go to New York. Connor.
Boston Conner
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Q.
Boston Conner
Rich, New York Knicks still looking for a coach. Mike Brown's getting a second interview. And then the reports were that they reached out to Don Staley about their head coaching position. A lot of jokes were flying, but it feels as though the NBA is nearing their first ever female head coach. How do you think that would work? Obviously we, you know, Becky Hammond's in the Spurs. I know the Pacers have an assistant coach, but how do you think a head coach that is a woman work in the NBA and do you think we're kind of probably, what, a few years out from that. Or do you think that could be any time now?
Quentin Richardson
Yeah, I don't know how far we are out from that, but I think it could work. Like I said, I played for coach Nancy Lieberman in the Big Three, and from being a player, being in locker rooms, I know that players respect the coaches that put in the work, the coaches that are prepared, the coaches that are doing what they need to do to have us as prepared as we are. And we as players, we know. We know the difference. You can't really. You can't cheat it. We see the difference in the game plan and the things that go into it. So, I mean, my experience with Nancy Lieberman, man, and I had all pros on my team, Big baby Davis, Coutino, Mobley, Corey McGetty. We were all former NBA players and we all felt the same exact way about her. She was as prepared and as intense and as about winning as any coach we had ever played for. We would have a game on a Saturday or Sunday, and before we even get on the plane to go out of town, she's texting us the game plan for next week and talking about different things. And the Big Three was big difference from the NBA. We weren't with each other as much, so she had to do a lot of that remote away from us. And she would call and FaceTime. And to me, if you're going to put in the work to be able to do it, I think the guys will give respect. I mean, come on, man. At the end of the day, I don't care who you are. You had a mother, you got a sister, you got, you know, know, grandmothers and stuff like that. So we as men, supposed to respect women. And I don't think it would be that big a deal. I think you've seen females and women start to integrate into the different sports. It's a lot of assistance across all of those different sports and doing different things and earning great respect. And I think it's just a matter of time before it happens.
Pat McAfee
Watching coach Jenny with the Pacers was awesome. This playoff run, because I was sitting in that seat that was like on the bench. She was fucking getting after. I mean, it was.
Darius J. Butler
They do.
Quentin Richardson
I mean, people think that they don't.
Pat McAfee
They.
Quentin Richardson
They are as intense and as dialed in. Like, Nancy was like, that was the first message to us, like, hey, this. We not here to play.
Pat McAfee
We.
Quentin Richardson
We coming to win. We want to win this whole thing. Like, that was the first and the continuing message throughout. So I think that, you know, they, people don't understand that these women, once they get into these athletic situations, they are, they, they, they become dogs and, and all of those things that we do, they get into, into it and they get wrapped up into it and they all in.
Pat McAfee
And the boys responded too. I was watching that too because obviously you got to watch how the boys respond to everything that's going on. Not just Jenny, but Rick Carlisle, all the assistants. And it's like the boys were bought in. Obviously excited to see that. Now we only have about a minute before a hard out. Damian Lillard gets waved. He's going to make 22 million for the next five years, allegedly via reports. Obviously, Miles ends up. Yeah, God bless him for that for sure. He's coming off at Achilles. He's going to miss next year. What is our immediate thought? What should our immediate thought here be in 30 seconds or less?
Quentin Richardson
I'm excited for him, man. I mean, not the best situation, but he's still going to get his big time money while he gets to sit out of rehab, but he gets to look at the landscape. After this year, he'll be a complete free agent. He doesn't have to talk here. He gets to go and choose where he wants to go. So he gets to sit back, get healthy and see what, what the landscape looks like and where he fits thin best.
Pat McAfee
He's got that, that Bonilla deal too. Coming. Congrats to Bobby Bonilla, by the way.
Ty Schmidt
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
Another payment of a million dollars until 20. What a plan. What a deal.
Quentin Richardson
Hey, that is the biggest. That's the he, he, the goat right there for that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Unless you can get 71.25 million a year, you go ahead and get the Bonilla one. Ladies and gentlemen, Quinn Richards. Say thank you, buddy. Thank you. Q.
Ty Schmidt

Pat McAfee
You can Venmo that.

Sports are happening all the time. You just kind of have to look for it. Like for instance tonight there will be a baseball game on somewhere if you want to find it. Hopefully the Savannah Bananas will have a game soon as well. The WNBA is happening obviously. Great competition every single evening and mostly storylines in abundance from all of the sports. For instance in the NHL. We just talked to the commissioner, Gary Bettman. He said that a new CBA is about to be reached between the NHL and the NHLPA a year early. Congratulations. Things are going swimmingly in the NHL with ratings going up and to the right in a potential dynasty down in South Florida brewing and maybe an expansion team in the NFL. Well, there's massive trades taking place in middle of nowhere, out of the middle of nowhere. We got two stars traveling from Miami up to Pittsburgh. One star traveling from Pittsburgh down to Miami. We still got some contracts looming, new storylines developing. T.J. watts deal now is going to be talked about. Trey Hendrickson, Shemar Stewart, there's some free agents. I mean NFL is always going to deliver storylines in drama. And in the NBA they're handing out so much money to so many dudes. Congratulations to all the NBA players that signed new deals or extensions. Even the guys are signing like six and a half billion dollar a year deals. Congratulations.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah, great money.
Pat McAfee
That is game changing money. And you talk about $71.25 million a year going to SGA. He's living in Oklahoma.
Boston Conner
Think about that.
Pat McAfee
Would you imagine how many barn dominions he could have out there?
AJ Hawk
Oh, that's seven.
Pat McAfee
Now granted you don't have that in Oklahoma. I don't think you want to have barn dominions out there in Oklahoma. I think you want to have a good base. Sure, from what I've heard out there. But 71 $1.25 million a year in Oklahoma? You've earned it. No agent, you've earned it.
Darius J. Butler
Throw him the first title.
Pat McAfee
Nine year NFL vet Darius J. Butler makes a great point. SGA has obviously helped out the city of Oklahoma City and I assume they feel the same way towards him. Well earned. Congrats. He's not the only guy that got paid, but certainly more than anybody I've ever seen in my Life. I don't know what Lou Messi's entire deal is with the mls because I think they had a racing revenue share with Apple and downloads and everything. So who knows what that is? I know Saudi Arabia has been paying some soccer players like $250 million $300 million a year. $450 million a year, allegedly. I don't know what's being actually reported and what is actual reality of this entire thing, but 71.25 million a year for one of our main leagues is outrageous. And congrats to him. The money's only going up because sports are the greatest thing on earth. Let's go to the toxic table at Boston, Connor and at Ty Senior. Good first hour, Ty.
Ty Schmidt
Thank you very much. Yeah, I mean, it's a great day to be alive. You know, you looking at all these.
Pat McAfee
And it's a great day to be alive.
Ty Schmidt
No. The sun still shining when I close my eyes. It's a hard time in the neighborhood. We might get a strike because that sounds exactly like Travis Trip.
Pat McAfee
Didn't hear D. Butts in singing.
Darius J. Butler
I'm not. Not familiar with that one.
Ty Schmidt
You're not a Travis trick guy.
Darius J. Butler
I'm not.
Pat McAfee
And it's a great day to be alive.
Darius J. Butler
I look up the song. I'll do my research. I'll get back to you.
Pat McAfee
How about the devil taking on Johnny?
Darius J. Butler
Hey, I did my research on that. But devil never had a chance.
Pat McAfee
Johnny's. Johnny's fiddle boy is just so damn good. The devil had no shot but he was in a bind. He was way behind. He was looking for a soul to steal.
Darius J. Butler
What was the name of the Bennett Charlie.
Ty Schmidt
Charlie Daniels Band. That's right.
Boston Conner
Too much research.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Don't. Don't go to. We don't need to know. Okay? Just. Just right there. We just need to enjoy what's going on.
Boston Conner
Don't ruin.
Pat McAfee
It was great. It's great for police. I like that banger.
Boston Conner
Same with Travis.
Pat McAfee
I mean, the devil was looking for a sold steel and he was in a bind. He was way behind make a deal. He is always looking around. But this particular time he went down to Georgia and then Johnny said, get the hell out of town. Cuz he.
Darius J. Butler
I like that. He told him, come back whenever you're ready. Whenever you think you got another shot, come back.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And you know the devil said, you got to give me his due. But Johnny said, I don't fuck you. And he did a little dance. And that fiddle gold was something that he made a lot of money off of going Forward. So Johnny really won in the end. Just like sga. Now one half of the hammer.
Ty Schmidt
Dad.
Pat McAfee
Cowboys ap. Tony's here. You look awesome. Thank you.
AJ Hawk
I appreciate that.
Pat McAfee
Cool shirt.
AJ Hawk
Thank you.
Boston Conner
Where'd you get that?
Pat McAfee
Did you know we had that? No.
Boston Conner
Where'd you get.
AJ Hawk
I believe we got. Got this in one of those packages like that came with like stuff one time. I found this the other day.
Pat McAfee
People send us stuff and they say, hey, if we were to do your merch, this would be possible. And we always think, yeah, we should do that. And then the follow up process is just so much. That shirt came in one of those boxes.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, it's a sick shirt. I found it the other day. It's like my second time wearing it.
Pat McAfee
Shout out to whoever made that. I'd recommend and we would like to do business. Keep sending it. Can't.
AJ Hawk
You forgot a sport where the saltiest of ball is playing. Okay. The Pittsburgh Pirates have done something that hasn't been done since 1925. They've won four straight games by seven or more runs. You better watch out for the hottest team in Major League baseball because guess what? Today they're going for five. And it's skiing day, brother. So look out for the buckos.
Boston Conner
They.
AJ Hawk
They are on a roll.
Pat McAfee
Shout out to between the numbs. Greg Harvey. Teams in Major League baseball history to win four straight games by seven plus runs, as Tone was alluding to, while allowing two or fewer runs. So the bats are working and the pitching's working. That's what that stat is basically at the most efficient level. Pirates. Pirates. And the White Stockings. Everybody knows that White Stockings team, they had bigger bats back then. They were using bigger bats. That's what people wondered. But you could get away with it. And White Stockings did that. They were hitting the shit out of it in their pitchers. They were juicing before anybody else.
Darius J. Butler
What city?
Pat McAfee
I don't know. That's not been proven. But there's a chance that the White Stockings were juicing. They did have bigger bats. It was 1882. Couldn't keep track of it. What I'm saying is what the Pirates are playing like right now is out of this world. Okay? And people need to remember that at one point, this particular program was calling the owner of Pittsburgh Pirates the worst owner in history of sports, which there was. People coming on this show saying the owners wasted Paul Skeens and his pitching staff. That's actually pretty good because they didn't bring anybody in that has any bats. Well, now the bats have come alive. I wonder if ownership has come out and said, I had belief in our team, you did not have belief in our team. Now, he could certainly spend a little bit more money to make this team better. I agree with that. He is still an ass owner. I think we would all agree with that. But with that being said, there is some vindication for him, I assume, saying we do have the bats and we're doing it right now. We beat the shit out of the Mets. That you think that owner is looking at what Cohen's doing at the Mets, thinking to himself at all I need to be doing that after what he's seen? No way.
AJ Hawk
I think this is no way. I think it's a major league situation, though, where they hate the owner and they've got a, you know, cardboard cut out of him in the. In the locker room. And every time they get a win, they're just ripping off of a piece of clothing until Bob Nutton sitting there in a G string at the end of the season, we got the pennant.
Pat McAfee
I see the Reds there in fourth in the NL Central. Joining us now is a man, is a college football national champion, a Super bowl champion.
Boston Conner
Oh, below the Reds.
Pat McAfee
Well, we're climbing only 11 games out.
AJ Hawk
Of the wild card.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, AJ Hall. I don't know if you saw where the buckos were right there below the Cincinnati Reds. Don't know how that's possible because I saw Kirk Herb street put out his annual tweet about, I can't do it with this race. I'll still watch, but I can't do it, saying, they're playing bad ball. Lo and behold, eight games ahead of the parts.
AJ Hawk
So, I mean, maybe parts are above.500 since Don Kelly took over. It's really just.
Tony
Yeah, that matters. I was just. I would just let you know, hey, if they win the next 14 tone, then you guys can get to 500, and then you reset and then it's another new season then, Right? Is that what you're saying?
Pat McAfee
Well, baseball, Every season is a month, you know, Every season. Well, they've had a great June. Oh, they've had a good July. Well, this thing doesn't end till goddamn October, so we hope we can continue this thing. There's a lot, so you can't be doing that. No, but I caught it. Does that count?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
As long as I keep the ground. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Correct.
Pat McAfee
Ball comes flying. Boom. I bobble it. Boom.
Boston Conner
This hand happened you again.
Pat McAfee
You got Savannah bananas. Boom, bang.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. That's an out.
Tony
Yep.
Boston Conner
Happened in a game where it went Hit the guy's glove in right field. Center fielders running over, goes from the right field fielder's glove out. Center fielder catches it. See you later.
Pat McAfee
Tag team back again. That's what they're saying out there.
Boston Conner
It was. That was like last week or something. It was incredible.
Pat McAfee
Okay, Sweet. Baseball's happening, A.J. obviously, we're all watching every single evening. There is a little bit of positive momentum. I will say we'll certainly circle back to it, put a pin in it. All the high corporate terms. Whenever a bunch of suits are involved from a. You know, sure. We all got ways to say things without saying things. That's kind of their world. Zoom Call drop. Some of those new Zoom Call we can reuse first. Zoom Call shit. Because it's a new audience. We'll circle back, put a pin in from a high level. That seems like a good idea. We got good momentum on this side, you know, Bang. We jump into a newsroom. We're just talking about the good momentum we had in this thing, you know, that's day. Bang, bang, bang. Anywhere in one of those momentum came, there's a chance we're going to home run derby.
Boston Conner
Shit.
Pat McAfee
Pretty pumped up about that.
Tony
Can you imagine? Big dumper hits 65 home runs in round one.
Pat McAfee
On that note, Big Dumper last night hits a dinger, obviously. And I wonder, and granted, he's so locked in and focused on everything. This is one of those. Where he hit it, probably thought it was out. Could you imagine if that ends up short? Just the same day where I bring up like, hey, if you thought you hit one and then that thing goes short, I mean, immediately think, oh, no, we're bad luck. This is just like when LeBron came on and did the LeBron versation and he had two points in the first half, and they're like, this is the worst game that he's ever played. It's like, oh, no, Then he gets a game winner. Sucks for the Pacers. Great for the program that we're not the jinx. Cal hitting a bomb with the big dump chance obviously happening at the same time. Feels like we didn't jinx the big dumper.
Boston Conner
No.
Pat McAfee
And that's great news. That just takes us off of. Of any of those types of things and we move forward.
Ty Schmidt
It's actually the opposite of jinx and the big dumper because he had not hit homer in about six games in a row. And he comes on the show, hits a homer, you know, and everyone's talking about, hey, his. His name's being mentioned with you know, Barry Bonds, Babe ruth, Ken Griffey, Jr. You know, of that ilk. So, yeah, I, I'd say Dumper's doing just fine. Well, yeah, I mean, different sport, but you could obviously throw in Senior in there as well. I mean, I, I, I, I'd love to see Duner behind the wheel of, Of a nascar.
Pat McAfee
Hey, I'd love to see Senior in the box.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, me too.
Pat McAfee
He's probably taking the one off the head, right? He, he's certainly crowded in the plate.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah. Junior's on top of the play.
Pat McAfee
Senior, you're right.
Ty Schmidt
My mistake.
Tony
Just wait.
Ty Schmidt
Junior, you know, it runs in the blood. But, yeah, seniors on top of the plate. And you know what he's doing? He's almost baiting the pitcher. Hey, hit me. And then guess what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna charge the mountain. I'm gonna beat your ass, AJ I.
Pat McAfee
Think that's where you were headed there. And obviously you made a massive shot for Dale Earnhardt. When we were at jmu, one of the greatest moments in this show's history. We had a moment of silence. Four, three. Then we came back. AJ Shot a three, made it. Place goes crazy. I mean, it was a wonderful thing. Have you been witnessing Ty Senior here today? Did not expect this. Did not know this. Kind of a nice little treat for a Tuesday. I will say, A.J.
Tony
Yeah. An absolute treat, seeing. And every time he pops back up, especially on the one shot, when you see Ty Senior just. I don't. I mean, I feel like I'm watching Dale single Senior. I feel like this is Dale Senior reincarnated. So I'm guessing Dale Jr. And the rest of the family are really enjoying it today.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And this is not real.
Ty Schmidt
I, I saw that at the break, and I almost said, hey, listen, D Bone, just because you're a fat sack of lard doesn't mean you gotta.
Gumpy
I said the same thing back here.
Ty Schmidt
Ty Senior, thank you very much. Gumps, you don't have to give me eight necks, okay? He said, well, guess what? That was Croc. I mean, you know what? I don't give a. I don't give a. About me, okay? That is a disservice to Senior, okay? Because if you put some fat schlub with eight necks right next to Senior, what do you think he's going to think when he's looking at. So maybe we could take another one where I could actually lift my dagum head up and I. And I don't have a bunch of necks and I'm Sick.
Boston Conner
Tired of senior's eight feet tall too.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Well, did I say NASCAR tweeted this out too?
Darius J. Butler
I think I did.
Ty Schmidt
I don't know. I think they might have picture, but I know NASCAR did. Sorry, let me assume the position again.
Pat McAfee
Oh, I see it.
Tony
Yeah, just poke your. Poke your tin foil maybe or something.
Darius J. Butler
Oh.
Tony
There it is.
Ty Schmidt
You got something else coming today, Bone. I'll tell you that.
Boston Conner
He's been fired up all day.
Ty Schmidt
And you know what I haven't said because usually, you know, I'll rough his feathers a bit. I'll go in there and say, Jesus, Bones, the eighth bag of chips you've had today. It's 10:15. Slow down a bit. I haven't said any of that stuff lately because I've been, you know, he's a good kid, he's a good boy. And I just been trying not to ruffle his feathers. Boy, I tell you what, I'm gonna be counting his calories the rest of the week.
Boston Conner
Someone better.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Oh, he actually just. He just texted, said, long time coming, bro.
Ty Schmidt
Touche.
Boston Conner
Fair amount of jokes.
Pat McAfee
All right. That's amazing. That's because. A four part documentary on Amazon. That's why we got this today.
Tony
I need to watch that.
Boston Conner
Yeah, you do.
Pat McAfee
Thank you for your service to sports, Dale Earnhardt Senior.
Ty Schmidt
Hell, yeah.
Pat McAfee
I think it's. I have not seen the documentary, but I feel like I've learned about it enough and the person has completely transformed who he is into it. Job well done. Honoring a great American icon here on 4th of July Week, obviously. Let's hit some. No, we should do this. Duh.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
AJ do you have a thought on 71.25 million bucks a year for SGA?
Tony
Yeah. When is the first 100 million a year guy going to break into the league? Is my question after that, will it.
Pat McAfee
Be NBA first or will the NFL sign a new cba?
Darius J. Butler
NBA.
Tony
Possibly quarterback, but yeah, probably NBA. And the crazy thing is NBA guaranteed, you know, we see Dame Lillard wave. Oh, still getting your cash.
Pat McAfee
22 million for the next five years for him. The Bobby Bonilla deal. Obviously everybody talks about this day of the year because it's like 1.3 million or something until 2035. Beautifully executed. Good for him to pull that off. He. You mentioned a $75 million a year deal. That's around the corner, I guess.
Boston Conner
Who's that?
Darius J. Butler
Devin Booker. So the highest paid player will almost always be from a player that was drafted by that team. There are always able to get a little bit more. But Devin Booker, he'll be eligible, I believe, July 6th to get that two year, $150 million extension. I think it'll be 72 in the first year and 78 in the second case.
Pat McAfee
That's roughly 75 million a year. So they're already at 75 million a year. Right now quarterbacks are at 60 million a year. Right. That's where the top quarterback is. So will the new CBA for the NFL get to a point where quarterbacks are in tears for the supermax? Like. Like quarterbacks are taken out. They're kind of over here. Then the rest of the team has their own ship. Because the way the NBA works, you draft the person, you can put the supermax on them without them ever hitting the market, right?
Darius J. Butler
Yeah. When they make, especially they make. Was it all. All NBA teams and things like that?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. So we would assume that the NFL could potentially roll out a quarterback tiering system that you could put onto a quarterback. If they're going to become a free agent without having to give them 35% of the salary cap or whatever it is now and everything else having to happen. I think everybody's kind of on board with the quarterback matters. Quarterback needs to get paid the most. But also their contracts are clearly a direct impactor of the rest of the roster. We all understand that. So I wonder if there will be a conversation about that in the NFL and would that lead to bigger deals for quarterbacks or would that le. I wonder, you know.
Gary Bettman
Yeah.
Tony
Would they put. Put a cat. I mean, I don't know. Is there a way you could cap the total that a quarterback could ever. I don't know. I don't know what they're playing. But yeah, you got to pay them. You got to have them that. It's a great problem to have for NFL teams.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Because I think they could probably have like a super max tier because they already tender guys. Like first round tender, second round tender. Yeah, you could probably have like a super max type thing for a quarterback. A second max if it's a second level. And then you just have to decide that. And then I guess they could probably go to the market and say, hey, we're getting a second offer. Will you give us a super offer? Like that'd be a way to get them away from the salary cap. But they had that in the past. It was called the quarterbacks club. It was like Jim Kelly, John Elway. I think Marino was a part of it. Aikman Farre, they were doing their own licensing deals. They had their Own everything. People were not about that. I think there was a lot of people that were upset about them kind of going to business for themselves. But now we're at the point where it's like, hey, we kind of are though.
Tony
They're their own son, separate thing. And not in a bad way, in a good way, like, but yet when they're that elite and there's a handful of them on the planet that can do that job, like, it's true. Like, they should probably be in their own category.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Like the basketball super max thing, I think that, I think that makes it easier for teams and for players. Like, hey, you're here, we value you. This is what the contract is. It's a supermax. We're giving you as much as we can possibly give you. This is how it works. So there isn't any beef or tension there. Now if you were to do give the second max, then there would be and then you could see it. But the NFL needs their form of that for the quarterbacks, I think, personally.
Boston Conner
Yeah. And the NBA, I think in two years is going up a decent amount. I think 20, 26, the salary cap goes to like 180 or something. So, you know. But by the time like Cooper Flag is getting his supermax, you would think that if he does hit those escalators, that he might be 100 million a year. You wonder what the NFL too, you know, we talk about the quarterback contracts and like the Steelers situation, for instance, where they're not paying a quarterback quarterback money, but now they have to think about paying, you know, a pass rusher quarterback money. And then you think about like the, the Bengals with Jamar Chase paying him like quarterback money, if you will. I do think you've brought up the percentages before about how a team could allocate a percentage of a salary cap towards a player. Do you think they'll have have to do that for other positions too? Because the money for those other positions is getting so massive.
Pat McAfee
That's crazy. Maybe that's just a part of like the max. Like, you know, like, maybe they just have a new tiering system for what contracts are. And those obviously all scale in change with the league with whatever it is. I assume it would be a certain percentage of the salary cap. But it just the way these quarterback deals, I mean, especially if it goes up to 65, 70 million.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah, they too will.
Tony
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And now in basketball, obviously five guys on the court. Now, I know you need 13 guys, 12 guys to win. I know you need that. But I'm saying five for football, it's 24 people, 25 people on the field, 11 offense, 11 defense, three specialists. You know, like that is 25 different people that need to get money, let alone the other, what, 28 people on the roster that need to get paid. So it's not as easy as. I don't say it's easy, but you get it. Yeah, it's not the same because there's so many more people, but it's like. I do wonder when the tiering system starts to come to the NFL, do.
Boston Conner
You think that they would consider like getting rid of the voided years and things of that nature because it is such a weapon for those massive deals like the NHL just did the. Or not just did, but allegedly in the next CPA the NHL is doing, you know, you can only do six year deals for free agents and seven year deals for traded guys when it comes to extended contracts. I do think, think that could be something that might help change the money allocation at least. So you can't just, you know, pay everybody a ton of money and then, you know, two years into some of those deals, they're out of them.
Pat McAfee
Well, allegedly hockey is trying to crack down on the teams utilizing long term IR where they pay people and then they don't play. Then they're able to bring them back for the playoffs because they go against the salary cap, their new cba. They're trying to eliminate the gamesmanship seemingly from what it seems like like. So let's assume that other leagues will do the same. Like the salary cap gymnastics that's happening right now in Mike Greenberg was on.
Boston Conner
Get up dynamite for 15 seconds.
Pat McAfee
35 seconds.
Ty Schmidt
35.
Boston Conner
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's like one of the greatest salary captain gymnasts in the history. Him Veach over in Kansas City. I think there's obviously Bean is in the middle of doing some of it.
Boston Conner
Mickey Loomis in New Orleans has been.
Pat McAfee
Doing salary for a long time and it's like, has it worked out? I don't know. Guy loves chewing gum into microphones. We shouldn't judge him for that and only that. But it's like that's a talent. I think I do wonder if the other teams that don't have that as well will try to crack down. Who knows? Okay, let's pivot away from sports for a second and let's go to a game show. Let's go to game show. That's about killing somebody.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Whoa.
Darius J. Butler
I don't like that.
Pat McAfee
Yes, you do. Ladies and gentlemen, the official trailer of a movie that our friend is starring in has dropped today. Ladies and gentlemen, the Running man. Ben Richards, 35, married, one child in medical crisis.
Glenn Powell
We need money for a doctor.
Pat McAfee
Now, Ben, watch us up. Employment status. Blacklisted. But there's still a way out for you. Who gets the biggest shot in the country? Blood lust is our birthright. Set it free. Welcome to the Running Man. People on these games never come back. I'm not trying to get myself killed.
Glenn Powell
So kiss my ass twice.
Pat McAfee
Right there is why you can win this game. Rules are simple. Survive 30 days, the entire nation hunting you down. Get your family out of slumside for good.
Glenn Powell
I'm gonna come back here and burn this building down. I promise.
Pat McAfee
That's the spirit. This is America, God damn it. And we don't put up with no y. Hunt him down. Stop filming me. Have you ever wondered if this game is rigged?
Glenn Powell
Guess we'll find out.
Pat McAfee
Might be moving up too fast.
Ty Schmidt
Hey, buddy, you're on free V. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you better run. I got. Got a grenade back at you.
Boston Conner
I'm still here, you eaters.
Pat McAfee
Hey, big boys. Are you crazy? November 7th, Running man will debut and premiere. Speaking of premiering, we were told we were going to have the exclusive drop on the trailer that you just watched right there. They dropped it at 9am this morning. Which is very nice of them to do that. But we did have a chance to catch up with that handsome legend. Ladies and gentlemen. A man is gonna be known as a goat. Whenever it's all said and done. You know him from Top Gun Maverick, you obviously know him from Twister. Anyone but you. You name it. When he's on the screen, you can't help but say, damn, that guy's incredibly handsome.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Incredibly talented, incredibly jacked. And somehow still relatable. The star of the Running man, ladies and gentlemen. Friend of the program, die Hard, Texas Longhorn fan, Glen Powell. Yeah, Glenn.
Glenn Powell
Thanks for giving a shout out to the Horns. Appreciate you.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, maybe next year, brother. Maybe.
Ty Schmidt
Or.
Pat McAfee
Game Day.
Glenn Powell
Man, I'm like, pat, I thought we were friends. And you know, I forgive you, but we'll get you this season. I'm gonna. I'm. Get your horns up this season.
Pat McAfee
Well, listen, Archie Manning's under at the Hill. I mean, there is a lot of reasons for me to be a massive Texas Longhorns fan, but also, you know, that's all business. I just think the football, the game, the way it's going to go. Texas not going to be on topic. I'll be on board. But a lot of times. Hey, I'm like, like, boys, hook them, hook them. You know, let's dive into your world. Okay. We just saw that trailer. You're awesome, dude. It feels like any role you can play, you know, because you're this potential heartthrob rom com character all the time legitimately, they, you could be casted in that for a thousand of them forever and make. Look, I mean, just look how handsome you are. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. And well, I don't know if you can you wake up and see that face. I don't know how you do it. I. I don't know how you remain as humble as you are. Okay, just forget about that. Take the compliments in and let's move forward. Then obviously Top Gun Maverick is a different animal then Twister, different animal, then this. It's going to be a completely different. It's like, how much fun was it to do the Running Man? And how do you mentally and physically get ready for all these different types of roles? If that is a question that thespians are supposed to, to be asked, I.
Glenn Powell
Mean, this is, this is, this is one that was really, really fun because like, you know, when you obviously sign on to something called the Running man, you got to learn how to be a runner, you know, and running on screen is its own complexity. You know, you and I are both friends with the, the greatest on screen runner of all time who gave me some pointers, you know, I mean, drive with the knees, you know. But, you know, one of the things that, that I really, you know, got to do on this one is really learned how to be out in front of an action movie and like be bulletproof. So getting like in shape. And for all the hits, you know, when you see this movie, I'm taking every hit in the book. It is, it is. I went through it on this one and it's awesome. I mean, the movie just kicks ass all the way through.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, the trailer is insane. We were very lucky to see it like a week or two ago. Then obviously there, I think there was some final changes before the end. It that just ran. It is electrifying. I mean, I cannot wait to watch. And this is like the ascent continues for you, for you as an actor, for you as a person. Like, how do you view all these jobs? I think there's a firefighter movie that just got added in to the repertoire. Like, how do you feel about all these different jobs? Do you feel like you're in the middle of quite a run right now? This is what you've dreamt of, or do you just view it, like, go ahead.
Glenn Powell
You know, it's like. It's like the only. You know, I love movies so much. I've loved them ever since I was a kid, you know, growing up in Austin. It's like I've been doing this since I was, like, 10 years old, and it's finally kind of now just getting traction. And so, yeah, I'm getting to play all these roles that I've always wanted to. To do, and I'm getting to work with, like, dream directors, like Edgar Wright. You know, Edgar has been one of my favorite directors for a really, really long time. You know, ever since I saw Shaun of the Dead or, like, Hot Fuzz. I mean, this guy. This guy's one of the great directors of all time. And. And this is like his sweet spot. He is throwing fastballs in this movie and just. Just crushing it. So I'm just like, I really. I really think this movie is just designed for the theaters, and people are just gonna be. They're gonna walk out of the theater ready to run.
Pat McAfee
The first iteration of this movie was done with Arnold Schwarzenegger. And I hope my knees get the message that you just said after watching the movie, ready to run, because my knees say, don't run. Don't run every time I start to run. But after watching you, I assume I'll get back out there and, you know, run for my life. Which is what you were doing in this particular movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger obviously did the first iteration of the Stephen King novel. Novel as the. Did you talk to him beforehand? I believe there was, like, a blessing from Arnold to you to do the movie. And he actually said back then, with the budget limitations versus what's possible now, technology wise, he was, like, excited to watch you. I don't. He said that publicly. I don't know privately if there was any convos. And do you talk to any other action stars before you do an action movie?
Glenn Powell
Yeah, you know, I think, like, look, with Arnold, what was really fun is we did Expendables 3 together when I was, you know, mid-20s, something like that, out in Bulgaria, which is. We shot a little bit of Running man back at the scene of the crime of Expendables, which was kind of full circle. But, yeah, Arnold gave us this full blessing. And I mean, that's the really fun part about it is he said, look, I mean, the. The original Stephen King book is awesome. But, you know, he was like, they. They kind of took creative liberties and didn't really stick too close to the book. And he's like, you guys could do this way better than what we did. So he said that publicly and has given his full blessing in this movie. And there's a bunch of Arnold Easter eggs in. In our movie, too. So he's given his. His blessing. And there's. Yeah, if. If you're a fan of the Arnold, you'll see some of it in our movie.
Pat McAfee
That's awesome. You're just gonna be running towards a helicopter every time. Okay, I like that.
Boston Conner
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Virtual oper. Ty has a question for you, Glenn.
Ty Schmidt
Glenn, when it comes to a movie like this, and obviously you've been in, like, Top Gun, you've been in some of those, like, really topline movies, but when it comes to doing a remake that a lot of people love, is there any, like, anxiety or, I don't know, like. Like a need to really fulfill what audiences want? Because, you know, when this comes out, there's going to be, obviously people that love it, but if it doesn't go at, you know, like. Like, it could, I guess people are going to say, oh, you know, like, this should have never been remade. Like, this is a pile of shit. I mean, and I don't think that's the case, obviously, with you and Edgar Wright, but is there a sense of, like, oh, man, I really need to nail this so that that whole conversation doesn't get started?
Darius J. Butler
Yeah.
Glenn Powell
At the end of the day, I mean, I learned a lot of that when I was making Top Gun, you know, you learned that there's, like, a reverence when you're. Whenever you're taking sort of something that means a lot to people, you have to figure out a way to improve upon it. You know, update it to. To modern sensibilities, and always try to. Try to beat your time, so to speak.
Pat McAfee
And.
Glenn Powell
And Edgar is, like, the perfect director for this. I really feel like, again, we have. We had the best team around this thing to really make this thing pop. So, I mean, I'm not just saying this. Like, we really. We really deliver on this one. So I'm not worried about those sort of reactions. I feel. I feel very confident that audiences are going to walk away happy, even the loyalists.
Pat McAfee
Glenn, I've only known you for a few years. Anything you do. Yeah, Gold, you do well. Yeah. So we are a believer that if Glenn likes the script, it's gonna be good. If Glenn's in it, it's gonna be good. I think that is a massive compliment to you from all of us that don't know as much about the movies, but obviously you talked about Top Gun there. Huge. And you talked about running on screen. Huge influence in our life. I couldn't even imagine yours. Connor has a question.
Boston Conner
Yeah.
Quentin Richardson
Hey, man.
Boston Conner
We talked to TC the goat, and he kind of dove into his preparation, his acting process when getting ready for a role. Was there anything you picked up from tc, you know, that you've carried along with you over these past few years when getting ready for movies and preparing for specific roles?
Glenn Powell
You know, I think the thing that I didn't really anticipate is when you take a hit on screen, you're actually absorbing that hit. Right. You may not actually be getting hit in the face, but if you're falling over a table, you're falling over a table. If you're falling off a rooftop and hitting the side of a building, that's exactly what's happening.
Pat McAfee
If.
Glenn Powell
If you're jumping off a bridge and the thing's exploding, like, it's happening.
Pat McAfee
So.
Glenn Powell
So there's. There's a level of. Of beating that you're taking in this movie that I think, you know, we all kind of look at it. When you watch a movie, you're like, oh, like, you know, it's the movies. And then when you're actually doing. You're like, this shit hurts. And so I think the one thing that Cruz really prepared me for was really just making sure that I was as bulletproof going into that fire as possible. And I really, really appreciate it because I needed it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I understand. We're going to the next scene when we watch a movie, and. Yeah, I just went through a wall. Yeah, look at that. The running man goes through a wall. Wow. Let's go to the next scene. Yeah, I actually went through that wall right there. Like, let's. Let's have a moment for when I hit the wall. And then. Yeah, that's what you're saying. Any injuries?
Glenn Powell
Any injuries, you look. You definitely get some, you know, cuts and nicks along the way, but nothing we can't handle.
Pat McAfee
Just a little soreness. Not a little soreness. But I assume that did take a little bit to get used to. I can't wait to see how shredded.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, my God.
Pat McAfee
You remember him. Where were we at? We were down at the Cotton Bowl, I believe.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Conner
Okay.
Pat McAfee
He had the. The beater on.
Glenn Powell
I did my patent black tank, and.
Pat McAfee
We were all in. And we were all in flight service. Yeah, but you were absolutely so Josh. Sun glistening. I mean, it was like a thousand degrees vascularity. So much Vascularity. I mean, you were just so jacked out there, I couldn't even imagine. For running me. Oh, God, I couldn't even. He's going to be just shredded by garnish, Arnold.
AJ Hawk
It's gonna be gross.
Pat McAfee
That's gonna be a little Easter egg.
Boston Conner
That's one of the Easter eggs.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, the Easter egg.
Glenn Powell
Arnold's biceps for this movie.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Oh, can't wait. God. Somehow Glenn Powell only gets better. Tone has a question for you. Glenn.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Glenn, first and foremost, if you.
Pat McAfee
Can feel it, chase it.
Ty Schmidt
Hell, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. That's a big moment for him, Glenn. That's a big moment. Moment. I. Oh, boy.
AJ Hawk
You have no idea.
Pat McAfee
I needed that.
AJ Hawk
I'm. I'm gonna need five minutes after this is over, too.
Pat McAfee
See you boys later.
AJ Hawk
It feels like Maverick made you want to chase something. I was. I was watching the Blue Angels doc that you produced on Amazon, which was awesome. It feels like you're chasing that cockpit again. So that's really kind of the big question moving forward, because I know Top Code three rumors are out there. When are we getting back in the cockpit?
Glenn Powell
You know, that's up to tc. I mean, he probably. He probably gave you guys more information than I have, but we're definitely moving towards another trip to Miramar pretty soon. So I'm not. I'm not exactly sure where that'll land me, but it'll. I'm very excited to get back in the Jets.
Pat McAfee
All right, so by the time the movie comes out, November 7th, I believe 2025, what will we be saying about the Texas Longhorns then?
Glenn Powell
Well, that'll be post ou. That'll be post Ohio State. We're gonna be. We're gonna be moving. That'll be around some really, really big games. So I'm feeling pretty good, guys. I'm feeling confident. Just ran into Sark. We got a hell of a squad. Our recruiting keeps getting stronger and stronger, so as long as I can get Pat's Longhorns high and strong. Don't you do it. Don't you do it. Well, hopefully. Hopefully we cross paths at some Longhorn games this fall. That's what I'm hoping.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Your life. How are you scheduling long term life? We saw you had eight. At the time of this conversation, you had eight things in the works. I think you're even writing a movie alongside Judd. I think there's. You got a lot of things happening, and this is. Obviously, we talked about the beginning, the dream, but I know all these projects take, like, a lot of time and Then travel. And I think. I think you were living in Europe for a bit. Who knows? I don't know where you are now. It's like, how do you project what the future looks like? And are you just fully committed to the business? I feel like, you know, Clooney, whenever he was on his run, disappear, gone Leo, and he's gone, TC Gone. Just like, out of sight, out of mind. Basically out of life, I think. Because you're working, is it becoming like that for you, or are you still trying to remain a human every once in a while?
Glenn Powell
Oh, man. Well, the best part is, like, I have my friends. I'm in Glasgow, Scotland. I just had some friends come and visit me here. You know, I'm going back to London. I got a lot of friends shooting in London. I got my family coming out and meeting me there. So even though I can't be back home in Austin, Texas, right now, I can. I can have a lot of my friends here. So it always feels like there's home around. So I'm not. I'm not isolated. I'm not getting a chance to, like, lose my sense of life and adventure. I take fun weekend trips and stuff like that. So we. We still have a good time. Like. Like, we just went to Bordeaux the other weekend and rented some race cars and just hauled ass through the French countryside. So I'm still. I'm still living life. I'm still.
Pat McAfee
Oh, a of lot. Life's pretty good. Not bad. Light's pretty good. Yeah, we rented some race cars, one through the Bordeaux country. I didn't even know that was an option. Sweet. Happy to hear that. And my.
Glenn Powell
My favorite part is Chad Powers comes out this fall, and so I get to build my entire press schedule around Chad. I get to just live up Texas Longhorn games as part of showing. Introducing the show to everyone. So I'm like. I'm feeling it.
Pat McAfee
Isn't it amazing? Isn't it amazing that Glenn signs up for a gig character, that they're trying to make him look like an asshole?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You know, big nose with terrible hair. Somehow it's gonna be a sex symbol.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah, that looks good.
Pat McAfee
Somehow I have no idea how. Can't wait to watch. Can't wait to see you promote that movie. Can't wait to see how much the Running Man's beloved. All your other projects are gonna be smash hits. And we're incredibly pumped and happy for you, man. Sports Guy, doing great things in the movie. We appreciate the hell out of you.
Glenn Powell
No, I appreciate you guys. Thank you. Guys so much, obviously, big fan of everything you guys do. And, yeah, hope to see you guys a bunch this fall. Do it. Keep them up, baby. Keep them up. Don't you dare.
Pat McAfee
You're the man. Ladies and gentlemen, Future Goat. Incredibly handsome, very handsome, charming and fit. This guy's gonna make you go, Roy. After watching his new movie, the Running man, ladies and gentlemen, Glenn Powell. Thank you. Shout out to Glenn Powell for joining us last week. Obviously, he pops on the screen and it's just like, yeah, this dude's unbelievably attractive. It's outrageous. AJ Him, Jesse Palmer, I forget who else. There's like a couple dudes that have walked by and you just go, holy sh. This guy's supposed to be. This guy's supposed to be what he is. And he's so cool, so humble. Him living in Scotland, going to London. He's fully committed, obviously, to the business that he's in. And he's a rocket ship to the top. Ain't that right, Ty Senior?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, without a doubt. You know, if he wants to take that rocket ship, really, out of the Milky Way and into galaxies we've never seen. I've been saying it for a while now. I think it's time. Listen, I love Barry Pepper's rendition of Dale Senior a couple years ago. It was actually an ESPN movie. I think. I think Glenn needs to grow the mustache out and I think we need a full fledged.
Pat McAfee
You think he should do, like, F1D did their movie with Brad Pitt. You think Glenn Powell should do a nascar?
Quentin Richardson
Oh, yeah, I'm.
Ty Schmidt
No, I ain't talking nascar. I'm talking Dale Senior biopic from the time he was a wee little boy in Kannapolis. Exactly. All the way up to, you know, winning, you know, cup after cup after cup after cup. Believe he won seven Winston Cups. No big deal. So, yeah, I'd like to see that. Maybe his relationship with Junior, too. I mean, I just. I think it's time we get to that point.
Pat McAfee
So.
Ty Schmidt
I don't know, Glenn, if you're listening, grow the stash out. And, you know, we know you're a writer. Maybe you pen that yourself.
Pat McAfee
He's a little busy, obviously, with a lot of things. And if he was to do another Dale Earnhardt biopic type thing, we would obviously watch. We'll watch anything he does. Because in there, I told him, you make good selection. Seemingly like he makes good, he's a part of good movies. Seems like that is kind of a narrative that's building about him and the running Man. Thing looks sweet. That trailer was outrageous.
Tony
AJ Josh Brolin, too, is a great character. I saw in that trailer.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Tony
Anything Glen does right now, it seems to. To go to the top. I hope. I just hope Glenn. It sounds like he is enjoying himself.
Pat McAfee
What?
Tony
Riding fancy cars, driving fast cars through Bordeaux. Like, that's not real life. Like, that's a. That's a set of a movie. And Glenn is living that day to day right now. So I hope he's truly enjoying it because he's living in a. It's a great time in his career, that's for sure.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. We went down to South France and we actually raced race cars through the.
Ty Schmidt
Through the countryside.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What's that?
Tony
You find that on?
Quentin Richardson
Yo.
Tony
Is that on a Yelp?
Pat McAfee
Somehow I can figure that one out.
Darius J. Butler
Movie looks fire.
Pat McAfee
Movie does look fire. Yeah. It looks very Stephen King. It made me think about, though, college football season there, whenever that was. What? That's soon.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah, very soon.
Pat McAfee
College football is soon.
Boston Conner
NFL. I mean, it's July right now.
Tony
It's July. I mean, if you're in the NFL, you're thinking about camp already.
Pat McAfee
Yes, exactly. You're definitely thinking about, like, all right, I got to figure out how to handle. Hit the weight that I need to get at. If you're out of shape or you need to. Or some people think, okay, I need to sustain where I'm at right now for just a few more weeks. I mean, we're getting into it right now. It's July 1st. Yeah. That's unbelievable. August 30th, I believe, is the first college game day. Is that right? That's Ohio State in Texas. I wonder if Glenn. How will be there for that?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, it's week one. The week before that is the. The Ireland game, too. So we're. I mean, you know, we're not too far away.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Boston Conner
Friday, July 4th. I mean, of course, July 4th.
Pat McAfee
Happy birthday, America.
Boston Conner
Happy birthday, America. Happy Birthday, DL Sr. But also only 61 days away. So first game is September 4th. So you get to that. July 4th. Remember when you're waking up, hey, we're basically just two months away, you know.
Pat McAfee
Carries through the summer.
Boston Conner
What's that?
Pat McAfee
Well, you got baseball. Sure. You got W. Of course.
Darius J. Butler
Formula one.
Pat McAfee
The movie, I guess they're saying is really good. I mean, I just mentioned it there. The movie, I guess, is phenomenal. Phenomenal.
Darius J. Butler
Very, very, very good.
Pat McAfee
Did you watch the movie?
Darius J. Butler
I did watch it. I did watch it. I don't want to. No spoilers. I like people, you know, because Brad.
Tony
Pitt come out on top.
AJ Hawk
That'd be a spoiler.
Darius J. Butler
I mean, Sonny Hayes, you know, Sonny brought it. But. Yeah, great cast, great picture. Once I won't go too far.
Pat McAfee
I'm hearing ram jam of F1. Is that right?
Darius J. Butler
What's that?
Pat McAfee
That was the wrestler.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
You ever seen the movie the Wrestler Mickey Rourke?
Darius J. Butler
Nope.
Pat McAfee
He's Ram jamming around. He was a little bit older. Wrestlers. Are you going around Indy still?
Darius J. Butler
Well, yeah, Sonic. Well, we know Brad is an older gentleman at this point, so. Yeah, older driver, I think 50s in the movie, but. And then he has a young, young teammate with it, you know, It's a movie, all right. It's a movie.
Ty Schmidt
Not real.
Pat McAfee
We gotta suspend belief there for a little bit or whatever.
Boston Conner
Someone so cool like Brad Pitt wouldn't race in F1 because it's stupid.
Pat McAfee
I heard. No, I heard Brad Pitt was actually racing in F1.
Ty Schmidt
Legit.
Pat McAfee
That's what I heard.
Boston Conner
Movie magic.
Pat McAfee
No, they're saying for real. He was doing.
Tony
Because you don't have to pass anybody. Right?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You think.
Tony
That guy. Hey, follow that guy.
Darius J. Butler
Brad, Watch the movie. Yep. AJ's gonna be a fan after you watch.
Tony
I'm gonna watch the movie. I'm a huge fan of Brad Pitt. I will absolutely watch it. But is he eating in the cockpit? D butt has to.
Darius J. Butler
No, I will spoil. I will spoil that part.
Pat McAfee
No, we don't have eating Brad Pitt. Not a single scene of him eating it.
Boston Conner
Did it in Talladega nights.
Pat McAfee
What's that?
Boston Conner
Eating in the. In the cockpit?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I mean, Talladega Nights, though, You're talking a little bit different style of race.
Boston Conner
Super realistic, real racing.
Pat McAfee
Well, that Fig Newton's. Yeah. Right on the windshield was certainly inconvenient, But I do love me some Fig Newtons.
Boston Conner
Of course.
Pat McAfee
Of course. I think it's a little different with F1. I don't think it's as wonder if.
Darius J. Butler
Dale could have driven F1.
Pat McAfee
What?
Tony
Come on now.
Ty Schmidt
Dale could drive anything that's got wheels, brother. So, yeah, he'd been just fine driving F.1.
Darius J. Butler
Sorry.
Boston Conner
You sorry?
Darius J. Butler
Apologize for the disrespect.
AJ Hawk
Thank you.
Ty Schmidt
All good.
Pat McAfee
We're supposed to be joined by a champ here relatively soon.
Boston Conner
Oh, yeah, another champ.
Pat McAfee
Champ. Champ.
Darius J. Butler
Have some champs on there.
Pat McAfee
I like that. This guy might be the best of all time.
Darius J. Butler
Is it words?
Tony
He's a stud.
Pat McAfee
He might be the greatest of all time sitting here.
Darius J. Butler
Go.
Tony
Still young.
Pat McAfee
We have not been able to connect to him yet, but we will certainly continue to try.
Darius J. Butler
Okay.
Pat McAfee
Ilya Toporia will be Joining us as aj. Screen just froze a little bit there, so we might be having connection issues all over the place. This guy's undefeated, has been a champion at two different weight classes. Now he had to vacate one title and move on to the next one. Now he's the lightweight champion of the ufc. He's. He wasn't as tall as Charles, obviously. There's been a lot of reach conversations. He's got thunder and lightning. He's got thunder and lightning. And then he moved to Spain, I guess, as a. As a. As a boy. And he goes from Greco Roman wrestling in Georgia being, like, world champion or whatever. Then he goes to Spain. They don't necessarily have that. So then he just gets into MMA and becomes a Jiu jitsu master and everything. This guy has been. This guy is made to fight, and he is electric to watch. In the last 17 months, he slept Ko'd Volk all the way, and now Oliveira. You're talking about three legends of sport. And this guy, I think the world is just really getting introduced to at this point. For Dana and for the ufc, this is a great time for a new. Oh, my. This might be goat conversations guy to show up in the ufc, but I feel like everybody else in the UFC that's in the goat conversations is like, we don't really want to mess with this guy. Let's get. This guy seems. Seems to be a little bit different than everybody else. What a good thing for the ufc, and it's been an honor to watch this guy fight. We've gone through his highlights a little bit more here because we heard there was a chance he would come by the show. Electrifying fighter, aj. Absolutely electrifying.
Tony
What's awesome about him, like, he comes in with, like, a jiu jitsu background, and then all of a sudden, he becomes an unbelievable striker, and he's knocking dudes out. He obviously submits people, too, but he seems to. I think he's finished what all. But two fights, like, he. If you want to see some action, you turn on one of his fights. For sure.
Pat McAfee
Yes. And he's looking to end it, you know, and it's like, what's that, Ty?
Ty Schmidt
Well, I was just gonna say, I mean, like you mentioned guys getting slept a lot of times in the ufc. You know, like, a guy will get clipped, and then they'll take a couple off, you know, and then, like, they'll call the fight and you can tell the other guy he's not. He's like, he's still there, but he might Be a little bit out of it. Tapuria. He's. He's knocking these guys in the next week. I mean, he's. He's knocking these. These folks heads off every single time. He's. He's one impressions Son of a. He really is.
Pat McAfee
Is he as impressive as seen anything, so.
Ty Schmidt
Well, he's got a. He's got a ways to go to still kind of get to that point, but he's certainly on that trajectory.
Pat McAfee
All right. As we wait or potentially not have Ilya Taporia, we like, say, hey, you're a great fighter, bro. We still, like, we don't hate you.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Absolutely. Would love to watch you. I guess it was. They did like a numbers check whenever they were asking if we would like him to come on the show. What are the numbers for your show? Just so we know in this tournament.
Darius J. Butler
People still ask that.
Tony
What do you say?
Pat McAfee
We haven't been asked that in a long time. It is something at the beginning stages of stuff that is like, you know, like, is this worthy of our clients time? You know, that type of shit that's kind of a part of the digital world and at all. We haven't been asked that in a long time. And I enjoyed the trip down memory lane of when we used to have to like do that and stuff. So it's nice to know. And also feels like he's probably just locked in. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Guy and his people just locked in. Hey, you know, this guy's worried about knocking people out. This guy is worried about becoming the greatest of all time. He's been champion two different weight classes and you don't have time for your dumb ass show. I'm like, respect. But that's kind of like your job to tell him, right? That's your whole thing. So that's the. It was awesome, though. Like, I really appreciated that. And I guess we kind of made the cut. But maybe not.
AJ Hawk
Maybe not.
Pat McAfee
Maybe. Maybe that's not the case.
Ty Schmidt
We'll see. I don't. I don't know, guys.
Pat McAfee
Box office, though. I will say box office. So I appreciate that. Can't wait to watch him fight. He will knock your ass out, though. Deal.
Ty Schmidt
You serious? Have you seen. You got to watch the documentary.
Pat McAfee
Have you seen. I'm talking about you. Not necessarily senior. Sorry.
Ty Schmidt
Ty, put this on. I am body. Dale Senior.
Pat McAfee
Well, have you seen the newest you and Dale?
Ty Schmidt
Deep Bone did send it to me and like I said, me. Me and Devo say we. We've put our swords down. I will not be counting Calories I will not be looking at how many bags of chips and how many Oreo sticks he eats this afternoon. Because he's a good boy. He's good.
Pat McAfee
You guys doing the creamy sticks? Is that. Is he in there with his fingies?
Boston Conner
I am Bone.
Ty Schmidt
Certainly is.
Pat McAfee
Those making their way back to the office is certainly a move. Congrats to them coming out of the cave like they're Jesus Christ back into this place. And I will say there has been one or two people enjoying it in the entire office.
Gary Bettman
Office.
Boston Conner
Yeah. Yeah. There's been a lot, but no one that wants to say it out loud. But that's okay. You know, once again, I can stand on business. Sob.
Pat McAfee
I enjoy you going into that thing.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, I was doing that this morning.
Pat McAfee
It is you whipping that together. It's like.
Tony
Are they Oreo stick dunkers?
Boston Conner
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. It's awesome. But he makes an Oreo. He, like, you know, we're doing it and then we're pressing it together. Things oozing out of. It's one. It is like a little project. It's like a little craft draft. And I'll tell you, I might have had one. I might have done one.
Boston Conner
It's fine. Anytime I come on too strong about something, you know, you just kind of. No matter what, I'm gonna take some flack for and people are gonna.
Pat McAfee
That's not true.
Boston Conner
People are gonna try and downplay, and that's okay.
Pat McAfee
We're on your side with the mullet, the mustache. I think a lot of things you've come on strong for. We're on your side.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
The leather jacket, we're on inside.
Boston Conner
Those are personal looks. I mean, mean, like, my. My tastes, the things that I enjoy, like. Yeah, it would be kind of screwed up. It'd be a bad teammate. If you guys were just telling me, like, hey, you look stupid, or that's a dumb mustache, because.
Pat McAfee
No, that'd be a good teammate. Well, you gotta be a good teammate. Would be saying, if you look bad, telling you, you looked at.
Boston Conner
That's fair. But I guess I'm more so saying, like, mustache. Those are undeniable things. Those are undeniable accessories.
Pat McAfee
Yours, certainly, when it.
Ty Schmidt
When there's some bad ones.
Pat McAfee
Matte scarlets, you know, people that don't have it. Also the mustache, that thing. If it was to be lighter colored, I think it would look bad. I think you found your rig up there. That's what we're saying.
Boston Conner
Yeah, yeah. Built for it, some would say. I'm just saying, when it comes to My food taste. If I like something and I'm loud about it, chances are things are coming back on the other side.
Pat McAfee
I mean, if it's fashion, you're not going to get the credibility. Legitimacy for most things, which I can accept. Foxy says something, though. We're probably going to buy into it. Have you seen what Foxy looks like these days? He's been using Kurt Angle's protein powders.
Tony
Oh, foxy put on 20 pounds of muscle.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I don't think his body can do that, but he. His body has turned into muscle. I am the heaviest I've ever weighed. And speaking of Connor's clothing options, I actually have one rule in this office and it's only with me and Connor. Rule number one, do not criticize anything I ever wear. Ever. That's. But that's good rule.
Boston Conner
Yeah, it's just different styles.
Pat McAfee
That's pretty good rule.
Boston Conner
Some people want to look like a hallmark card and some people just want to kind of hang out and be a normal person.
Pat McAfee
The thing about Foxy is he is the mannequin at every store you walk into. Exactly. That is literally the way his body is built. Debuts same way. Dbuts can wait. Hey, give me what? The mannequin.
AJ Hawk
He's the under armored mannequin.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he's the under armored mannequin. Yeah. I'll take. Oh, that looks cool on that person. Thank you for doing the styling for me. I will take that son of a bitch right there. Foxy can do that in basically every single store. D. But I assume you as well. So when Foxy walks in here, I just assume that a new New York fashion thing has dropped on a mannequin. Yeah, Foxy saw it and Holy, this guy looks so cool. Always does. Abercrombie and Fitch really became your place there for a bit. Yeah, that's the go to right now. It's really great. That target. You name it, it's awesome. I would like to point out one other thing. Connor's wearing short sleeves. So I think the office is in a good spot, temperature wise. So hot outside.
Boston Conner
Yeah, Wore. Wore some short C gesture. I've learned that if I can get to 11, usually 11 is kind of the deciding factor where it. It either. Hey, put a. Put a jacket on Connor. Or jacket. You know what? Let's just.
Pat McAfee
Are you okay? You look a little pissed off.
Ty Schmidt
I'm not pissed off. Because you know, just when talking about this type of stuff, it is hot as in this thing. Rightfully so. Because you got to earned fire suit. Yeah, exactly. It's fire retardant. I said, you know, there's a chance I might combust into flames. And I was, you know, taking it to the cup pretty hard with Dale Senior earlier, and, and I worked up a pretty good sweat doing that. It's hot in this thing. It is. I, I, you know, today of all days, I'd say if you want to drop the temperature another 10 to 15 degrees, I'd be with it.
Pat McAfee
Okay, I'll think about it. Certainly, Connor is the one in charge. Remember the thermostat.
Boston Conner
That is not true.
Pat McAfee
We have found that is not true. It is a, a consistent hot outside. So I think that has helped with maybe the inside. But I'll tell you, you walk outside, then walk in here. It does feel cold in here. It's a nice little breeze. As soon as you walk in here, the air conditioner is working great. Thank you to the air conditioning people. Also thank you to Ohio governor, who was not the one pitching for the banishment of flags being planted on fields in the state of Ohio. Some politician in Ohio certainly was a win. One point. I think that kind of got shooed away. The Ohio governor, though, has approved a $600 million operation for a new Cleveland Brown state. Congratulations. The public's coming together with ownership, and we're going to make a brand new Cleveland area. Now, obviously, the current stadium is historic. It's right there on the lake. It's very windy. It's outside. It's a football town. The dog pound has been in there representing for a long, long time during a lot of hard, hard years for the Cleveland Browns. Now they're looking to innovate and looking to move forward. AJ how do Ohioans feel about this and how do you think this will go over in the Cleveland area? Because I heard there was a lot of arguments on what this would be.
Tony
Yeah, I mean, people, I think, are kind of torn about this. They love where they're at on the lake and everything about it. Is that the airport in the background I see of this? Is that where this thing is located?
Pat McAfee
You tell me, A.J.
Quentin Richardson
I'M looking.
Tony
I feel like there's airplanes and there's a terminals behind. I don't know what that might be, but. Yeah, aren't isn't every team, every owner is trying to build their own Patriots place? Okay, let's build it. Let's own the real estate. Let's own everything around it, and let's just rake in all the money. I think it is a good thing for everybody, honestly.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think it'll become a good business venture, especially if the dog pound buys into it. You know, if the dog pound's like, this is cool. Like in Green Bay, the Packers have like, a museum and a hall of fame and some other shit that you can come and come visit and make a trip out of it. Even in the off season, if Cleveland does that, which we still assume they will, with stores and everything else, hotels, places to stay, it's like you can make your Cleveland Browns football team an actual, like, getaway as well, which is what all these teams are trying to do.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah, the number surprised me. I feel like it's much lower than I expect for a new. And then it been a. It's a dome, right? Not retractable. So, yeah, straight dome in Cleveland.
Tony
It's gonna cost way more than that, obviously, right?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I wonder how much Hasm's given up. I assume that's the. That's the conversation. Yeah.
Darius J. Butler
But dome, dome, dome and Cleveland completely.
Tony
That's weird.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah, very, very, very weird. But at the same time, I mean, the. That they've been doing ain't been working. So completely, completely different. I know there are some people who just love football. Indoors football in a controlled climate. I'm a fan of, you know, the outdoor weather, the elements, especially when you're playing in division like the Browns are. But, like, I mean, I like it anytime, like, like AJ Said, anytime you. You build a new facility, you're gonna put. Bring new people in, you're going to bring. Boost the economy. Hopefully you get major events coming to Cleveland.
Pat McAfee
So it's big for Cleveland, I think. Yeah. The events that can be held there now at the Dome and all the things that can travel whenever the weather's not great, which in Cleveland cities like.
Tony
Cleveland, real fans definitely hate the Dome. Real fans hate the fact that the roof does not retract.
Pat McAfee
If Pittsburgh was to put a dome on there, people would be very pissed. All these footballers. We play footballers, football weather. And then who knows what the concerts would become? Who would. How would that would all go? But in Cleveland, I feel like that was the biggest argument is football is supposed to be played outside. And then, you know, we'll have like a Thanksgiving or a November December game where there's a blizzard and everybody's like, this is football. This is awesome. This is awesome. And then in some of those cities, they eliminate the opportunity to have that. And then people got like, Buffalo was having this conversation as well with everything. It's like, what's feasible, what's.
Darius J. Butler
What's.
Pat McAfee
What makes sense for all year round. Do punters have a vote? Because if they do, they let's put a roof on this thing. Let's go ahead and put a roof on everything. Quarterbacks probably feel the same way. That's a tough decision to make, especially with how much money is being spent as we have one minute left and Ty Senior takes it away.
Ty Schmidt
Well, I was just going to say, you know you talk about identity, obviously people want to be outside. Like this is to me this just kind of feels like how would you feel if Dale Sr. Was, you know, driving the 20 for, you know, rainbow sherbet car? It just be weird. Not his identity but whatever, you know, cuz, cuz Jeff Gordon, respectfully. So he's never going to be on the levels. Dale Senior, you know that I know you Jeff Gordon, but I was just going to say, especially when you're playing in that division, you're going inside like that. That's a massive advantage to a team that has Lamar Jackson as their quarterback and Joe Burrow. Whereas you know, you're playing in the elements late in the season, you might mitigate a little bit what those guys do. Not so much anymore. Playing inside of dust.
Pat McAfee
That's a good call. Senior. Any message for the fans watching on TV as we head into digital here?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, pretty simple. Fourth of July weekend coming up. Praise Dale. Raise hell baby. You really don't need anything else. USA all the way.
Pat McAfee
God bless America. This message is brought to you by Abercrombie and Fitch. I've been ready for summer for a while and now it's finally time for summer outfits. With a trip coming up, the A and F vacation shop has me covered. Abercrombie really knows how to do a lightweight outfit. Their tee, these sweater polos and linen blend shorts never miss. I wear Abercrombie denim year round. Their shorts are no different and have the comfort I need for summer prep. For your next trip with the A and F vacation shop, get their newest arrivals in store, online and in the app. Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here from Mint Mobile. Now I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited Premium Wireless for $15 a month is back. So I thought it would would be fun if we made $15 bills but it turns out that's very illegal so there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try@mintmobile.com Switch upfront payment of $45 for 3 month plan equivalent to $15 per month required new customer offer for first 3 months only. Speed slow after 35gb of networks busy, taxes and fees extra. See mintmobile.com. you nailed it, Buzz. Seymour. Thank you. Thank you. How do you think, how do you think the Earnhardt family is going to react to how well you did today?
Boston Conner
So pumped.
Ty Schmidt
To be quite fair, I have no idea. I, I'd hope that they would. They would.
Pat McAfee
The second photo, if we could pull that up, I think they'd probably be a little bit more.
Ty Schmidt
I, I think, I think you're right. I think you see the first photo, you're, you're thinking, who is this fat slob? And what's this guy doing dressed like my papa, you know, or my brother or, you know, whatever the ca. My. My husband.
Boston Conner
God.
Ty Schmidt
My God.
Pat McAfee
God.
Ty Schmidt
A lot of people saying that as well, but I don't know. I hope that they understand. This comes from the deepest part of my heart, and it's the, you know, most personal homage I could give to the Earnhardt family and the documentary. And the documentary, obviously, was incredible. Again, I can.
Pat McAfee
Nice reminder, I think, right? Don't you think that's what it was?
Ty Schmidt
Well, because, you know, like, I, I, I vividly remember no going to school. Cool. Following when Dale Senior died in the Daytona 500. Like, I still remember everything about that. I want to say I actually wrote a story in my, in my, like, fifth grade newspaper about that. So, you know, to be able to kind of go back and relive that when I'm an adult now, all these years later, like, it is cool because he, he was a goddamn American icon. And I think people have forgotten that as the years kind of go on and on, and NASCAR's kind of become what it's become. And I think I saw a lot of, like, the hardcore fans were saying, you know, like, back when, when Dale Senior was running the roost, like, that's when racing was racing, and that's when NASCAR was nascar. Now it's a little bit more commodified, and you got the Joey Loganos bitching about it.
Pat McAfee
You've gone into laganas.
Ty Schmidt
I don't like Joey Logano. He bitches about everything. You know, he acts like he's a tough guy, and then you get one of these guys. Back in the day, Dale Senior would have got out of the car and been like, all right, punk, I'm going to fucking knock your teeth out. And then we'll see if you're gonna be bitching and flapping those gums a bunch. But nobody's really doing that anymore, you know, like, that Roddy Kyle Bush. Well, yeah, yeah, I know. KY still. Where. But the problem with KY is the way his car is running right now. You can't really be swinging on guys.
Pat McAfee
I got a cow meal.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, yeah.
Boston Conner
The.
Ty Schmidt
The chicken tender combo with the biscuit and the Mac and cheese and the. The green beans. It's delicious. But you can't really be calling guys out and swinging on guys when they're finished, when they're getting top fives and you're finishing, you know, in the 20s, because you're not his fault. Car just ain't built for it, you know? But I think that, like I said, you know, there just ain't a lot of guys like Senior out there running today, and I just wish there were. So anyone who is a big NASCAR fan, if you haven't watched it, check out the Dale the Senior documentary. You have to.
Pat McAfee
And it's right there on Amazon.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
Harder. NASCAR season's happening right now, right? They had a race on Sunday. I think that was, like, a very good race from what I've been told, because anytime a good race happens in nascar, I'll get the NASCAR Twitter. We'll be like, hey, hey, hey. I saw that as well. They called it, like, maybe the greatest race in NASCAR history is what I saw on Sunday. Yes. I was getting a lot of those tweets as well, and I think they posted a picture from, like, a movie. What, like, a finish would look like in a movie. I think there was potentially a winner by, like, this much in nascar. Yeah, I didn't see. I didn't research it, but I just saw the tweets. I read all the tweets and said, all right, NASCAR at a weekend. And then I. That's on me. I think somebody got traded. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Tell me that.
Ty Schmidt
It's kind of how it works.
Pat McAfee
Ramsey got traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. And then I just got distracted. You know, that is. That's 100% on me. NASCAR's in the middle of their season. F1 driving around courses.
Darius J. Butler
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Yep.
Darius J. Butler
Silverstone, British grand previous weekend.
Pat McAfee
IndyCar. What's going on with Indy car?
AJ Hawk
I don't think they do that anymore.
Ty Schmidt
Brad Pitt's a big fan of it.
Boston Conner
Yeah. No, I thought they're. They're. They're still going. Yeah. Brad Pitt was looking forward a couple weeks ago.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Brad Pitt said he started watching F1, I think is how he got into it. Then he started watching IndyCar and he said, that's.
Ty Schmidt
I love now.
Pat McAfee
That's right.
AJ Hawk
That's open wheel.
Pat McAfee
That's what he said. Did you hear?
Darius J. Butler
He didn't. He was literally just driving to McLaren last week.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, but.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but that's for the F1 1 in the movie.
Darius J. Butler
He wasn't.
Boston Conner
Don't be a mark.
Darius J. Butler
You know, I am an F1 mark.
Pat McAfee
I'm getting.
Darius J. Butler
He didn't say that.
Pat McAfee
I'm getting into it too.
Ty Schmidt
He did.
Darius J. Butler
Once you watch this movie, you have great respect for it. You'll see why. It's the pinnacle for Brad Pitt.
Pat McAfee
He is the pinnacle.
Boston Conner
We have respect for F1.
Pat McAfee
It's.
Boston Conner
It's.
Pat McAfee
I think it's a spectacle, a festival.
Tony
Like you gotta understand not about the racing.
Boston Conner
They gotta react. Action stuff that the drivers do is super impressive. Like they. When they were in Miami.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah, yeah.
Boston Conner
The driver with Tyree Kill, they did it and the driver was so much better reaction time wise. Like, I have respect for the drivers. It's just considering it racing it is hard to consider because they don't do the. The passing or any. Like nascar. Like the reason NASCAR was electric this weekend, the finish.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think it was 3 wide. I think it was either 3 wide or 4 wide. You know, I get it. There's actually terms like the three wide. We're going full ride around. That's the conversation about racing. We don't know enough about racing to do a Ty Mike because he's obviously been in it. Tone's family watched nascar, I believe, growing up.
AJ Hawk
Pretty good races this week.
Pat McAfee
So I did not though I did not grow up watching racing or anything like that. I get out here to Indianapolis though, a lot of races, dirt track. We're talking NASCAR coming here. IndyCar obviously has its home here. So I've gotten a chance to be around the race community. Three wide, four wide. They're like, hey, he's not scared to go. Like that is the part of like racing like that is the taking the shot, doing the thing, setting up a move. Like all those types of I feel like are what I've understood racing. Then I watched an F1 race in Monaco and it's literally.
Darius J. Butler
The worst race to watch.
Pat McAfee
All right. All right. But I enjoy and respect the spectacle. Like who they get to go to the race issues, how it is covered. I. I appreciate city setups. Yeah. Like the on location that's going like. I respect the festival that is F1 because everybody's trying to get something like that.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Just the on track stuff from what I've seen thus far is tough for me to be like, okay, you know.
Darius J. Butler
I mean, I don't know how it is in the other, like NASCAR and Indy. But like going in F1 is only, let's say a handful of cars that have a real shot to win it. Right, Right. So that, that's the thing. So out of those cars for this past week, after the first five laps, you knew it was going to be a battle up front with the two McLaren races. And both of those drivers are the top two drivers for the championship. So one of those guys would most likely come out of top max for Stab and got knocked out on the opening turn, actually.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so they crash.
Darius J. Butler
They definitely crash.
Pat McAfee
Or they. How just run into each other's back like this real racist.
Boston Conner
You slip on like a banana. Like drive over a banana.
Darius J. Butler
Real. It ain't. It ain't rubbing and racing.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, you're not getting what you're getting in NASCAR. Like, let's go back to 86. We got the pass in the grass with Dale. You know, someone, you know nudges his back end and he has to, he has to go inside the infield and is he going to spin out like a lot of these guys in F1 just, well, I guess my day's done. No, what he does is he passes, is in the grass, holds onto the lead, wins the race. You're not getting that kind of stuff in F1.
Pat McAfee
They were passing the grass for the pass in the grass for Dale Earnhardt. And what are you guys doing?
Darius J. Butler
Is that legal?
Pat McAfee
Oh, oh, see, that's racing, brother. And it is legal and everywhere. But F1 rules of regulation. With that being said, I watch this F1 movie with an open mind and I assume Brad Pitt will win me over. I wanted to rob people whenever he was in Ocean's Eleven because how cool he looked.
Ty Schmidt
Certainly great cast.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius J. Butler
He can really, Sonny Hayes, get you.
Boston Conner
A couple superstars in that cast. To the. What's the dude from Dune? Javier Bardem. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
He's a stunning country for old men.
Pat McAfee
So do you think like Clooney, Pitt, Glen Powell walk into a room, do you think there is like hierarchy, like we're too attractive type conversation? Do you think like we're too good to be.
Tony
We're too good looking to be here?
Boston Conner
You think.
Pat McAfee
Do you think they're trying to alpha each other too? Like, ah, he is, he is. Do you think they are?
Boston Conner
I think they, I think they tear themselves and they're. And they're more so like walking over like, hey, we did it. Look at us.
Pat McAfee
You know, our mirrors are better than everybody else.
Boston Conner
Hey, tier one good looking guy.
AJ Hawk
Good to meet one different Generations there, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So you think Brad Pit and Glenn Powell are kind of like, is there torch passing happening there?
Ty Schmidt
Not quite yet.
Tony
A mentor program. It's like a mentorship Pit still spinning it.
Ty Schmidt
The F1 movie.
Pat McAfee
Yes, he is.
Ty Schmidt
So. Yeah, he is. The F1 movie was actually the highest gross, you know, the highest purse of his career. He got paid more to do the F1 movie than any other movie he's got.
Pat McAfee
So he's maybe hitting the prime right now.
Boston Conner
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
It was like 250, 300 million. So a lot of money.
Boston Conner
But they know you said he gets, like, points, right? You would assume.
Ty Schmidt
I would assume so. But they also know, you know, a movie like F1, the international market is going to do a lot for that movie. It's going to make a lot of money overseas as well. So. Yeah, let's just say Bill Pitt's doing just fine.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, massive announcement. Tonight. It's Commissioner's Cup.
Ty Schmidt
Here we go.
Pat McAfee
Is that tonight? That's tonight.
Ty Schmidt
Tonight. That's right.
Pat McAfee
8Pm Prime Video Commissioner Cup. Kathy Engelbert, the commissioner of the W, called the Indiana Fever, I believe, yesterday or two days ago to congratulate Caitlin Clark on being named the captain, one of the captain captains of the WNBA All Star Game. She was voted ninth at guard by her peers in the wnba. Number one by the fans, I believe, number three by media or coaches or something like that. So the players still got a lot of love for Caitlin Clark. Obviously, that's a big talking point on the Internet right now for everybody telling Caitlin Clark she needs to leave the W and go start your own league. BEASTU tried to do it with three on three down there, okay? She got investors, got a lot of money. Maybe that'll be successful. Maybe that'll be able to pay. A lot of people are saying, caitlin, you need to get out of this ungrateful league, okay? And you need to go start your own shit because you are the needle mover. Now, I do not believe that because I believe that the Indiana Fever are great for Indianapolis. But anytime things like these polls or these votes come out, it justifies everybody saying they don't trust or believe in Caitlin. They don't like that Caitlin is the face of the league, which, let's not get it twisted, she certainly is. Now, the OG fans of the WNBA don't necessarily love that because it's been 20 plus years of building up the league and building up everything, and then all of a sudden, Caitlin Clark comes in out of Iowa. A lot of new fans Come a lot of new fans. Not necessarily welcomed as quickly as I think some people would think. But that's any type of business that happens. Happened to me. College football, I go in that world. The old school college football people hated my fucking guts. I mean, I'm not saying I'm Kaitlin Clark, but I'm just saying they like to take ownership over the thing that they love. So any change or anything new to what they love, they're obviously going to push against it. So I think Caitlin Clark needs to stay the course. I think it's only a matter of time before everybody understands. I think we need her to get healthy. And just like she told Kathy, we need to get that dub in the Commissioner's cup, which is Kathy Engelbert's cup. She is a commissioner of the wnba. So I'm pumped for the fever. Is Caitlin playing?
Darius J. Butler
That's the question.
AJ Hawk
Don't know.
Tony
Probably not. Being an eight and a half point dub dog, you'd imagine she's not right.
Pat McAfee
Minnesota links current champs. No. Liberty are current championships.
Darius J. Butler
Yes.
Boston Conner
Yeah. Links are very good.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Conner
They have call your favorite to an envy.
Pat McAfee
Okay, well, good luck to all parties. If Caitlyn plays, obviously that would be.
Gumpy
Breaking news one second ago. Caitlyn is out.
Quentin Richardson
Oh.
Pat McAfee
All right. Let's take our graphic off there. Put their graphic up. Yep, there it is. Okay.
Tony
What if they still win?
Pat McAfee
They will. They got a good team.
Darius J. Butler
Kelsey Mitch could go off again.
Pat McAfee
Commissioner Cup. Kelsey Mitchell. This does feel like a big Kelsey Mitchell game. She'll play well. Yeah.
Boston Conner
I mean making it to the finals, pretty. Pretty awesome.
AJ Hawk
They need it. They're fighting for a playoff spot right now.
Pat McAfee
What do you mean if I. It's your Indian fever.
Gumpy
Austin can go off.
AJ Hawk
I think they're in eighth or ninth.
Pat McAfee
Aaliyah Kango especially if they play. Stephanie will have team coach. Stephanie will have a team. Right. Ready to go. They're in eighth or ninth. How many team.
AJ Hawk
How many teams are idea how many teams there are. But I know eight make the playoffs. I think.
Boston Conner
I think 15 now because they added the Valkyrie.
Pat McAfee
Listen, I understand the MLS let Lou Messi not make the playoffs. Okay. I understand that the NBA created these bubble games.
Boston Conner
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
The NBA is like, you know what? Actually we can get a playing game. We can because they're trying to get there.
Boston Conner
Zion.
Pat McAfee
They're trying to. It was all for Zion.
Boston Conner
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
At the bubble. And then it all just kind. We playoffs. We need. Right. We need that. Could you imagine Caitlyn not making the playoffs for the wnba Remember what happened last year whenever they got out of the playoffs.
Ty Schmidt
That would not be good.
Pat McAfee
Look for Kathy Engelbert the commissioner to be we're going to have a super duper play in open to get in the playoffs.
Darius J. Butler
This a motivator being being voted ninth because like Tyrese when he got voted most overrated.
Pat McAfee
Got a little hate for Indiana fire.
Darius J. Butler
Fire up a little bit more. I mean she's already fiery competitor but new shoes.
AJ Hawk
Eight teams make the playoffs so they're right on that bubble.
Pat McAfee
Her shoes sold out. The Kobe's less than a minute Sick. Sick. She is electrifying when she's playing. Oh yeah.
Boston Conner
Box office.
Darius J. Butler
She got to stay, get healthy, man. Need help.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I need to stay healthy. Ner this city of Indianapolis needs her. Yeah. Every team that the Fever play against Nader. Ticket prices whenever she's playing, hello. Ticket prices whenever she's not playing, goodbye. They're talking about expansion adding to. I watched vibe check yesterday with Elle Duncan hosting on Disney plus I believe they talked about the expansion teams. They talked about the WNBA all star teams. They. They had it all kind of like in there. If the WNBA with Caitlyn's help assistance obviously can actually like go, go, why not The Indiana Fever being the driver would be dope.
Darius J. Butler
All star games here. I know you haven't been in the, you know, regular folks airport in a while, but sweet basketball court out there.
Pat McAfee
Really? You hoping?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah.
Darius J. Butler
I mean if it was full court.
Boston Conner
Full court, same as last year.
Ty Schmidt
They don't let you hoop on it. Yeah, I try to get a couple.
Gumpy
There's a plastic shield on the, on the bucket.
Pat McAfee
Oh, so nobody can make it. You gotta try harder. Yeah, they don't want anybody getting too cocky in there.
Ty Schmidt
No smart.
Pat McAfee
Could you imagine somebody catching fire in the middle of the airport? Oh, that caused quite a scene.
Ty Schmidt
Yes, it would.
Boston Conner
Especially in the airport.
Tony
They don't want to sit here tearing their Achilles. That's what they don't want jumped up going up for a layout. Well, they sue them.
Boston Conner
They do one Mike Breen bang saw.
Darius J. Butler
Senior hit a nasty jab step before we went live.
Pat McAfee
Here it is. Boom.
Tony
That guy's up in the air. He's gone.
Pat McAfee
Sunglasses on. I don't know how you saw the hoop.
Ty Schmidt
The aud likes to go fast, baby.
Boston Conner
The audio isn't there either, but you.
Pat McAfee
Can hear what he was saying.
Boston Conner
When he gathers, you can hear him go Senior. Then he lays it in. It was right on his bucket.
Ty Schmidt
Senior.
Pat McAfee
That doctor series really inspired you.
Ty Schmidt
It did. It did. What are you gonna do.
Boston Conner
Gonna watch it later?
Pat McAfee
You didn't dump your pants today. No. You paid your respects. Pretty good day.
Ty Schmidt
Pretty damn good.
Tony
When did it become the plan, Ty? When did this become the plan to be Ty Senior?
Boston Conner
Like, what time when you didn't feel like changing? Getting out of bed this morning.
Pat McAfee
Exactly.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. I didn't shower this morning getting out of bed, you know, and I had the sunglasses on already, obviously, the mustache and whatnot. So, yeah, this is kind of just like, you know, if I can, you know, bite off Tony earlier to Glenn Powell. Sometimes if you feel it, you just chase it.
Pat McAfee
That went really well, too. Did it?
Darius J. Butler
He's in a different, you know, different mind frame, different movie.
Boston Conner
They might have a new one for this upcoming, and some of that had.
AJ Hawk
To be done, but, boy, did he fucking hate that.
Pat McAfee
It feels like that's an Ohio situation. Yeah, for sure. Like aj. Yeah. The amount of. If you could feel it to Glenn.
AJ Hawk
Powell, I probably never heard that before.
Darius J. Butler
You had to do it.
AJ Hawk
I mean, I had the straw hat on.
Boston Conner
And I mean, he. The. The worst part was that Tony just hit him with if you can feel it, and all he got in return was chase it.
Pat McAfee
You chase it, buddy. Yep. I get in a Scottish accent over here all the time. Yep. Yeah. I appreciate you watching Twister, bub. We get it. That's. That's basically.
Boston Conner
Yeah, that's what he said.
Pat McAfee
What?
AJ Hawk
He said, I love Ben, but I hope I never see him again.
Pat McAfee
No, you need to run that back. We need a better interaction there.
Ty Schmidt
No.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, because I think we'll. We'll gas it up. We'll make sure you get exactly.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, that's why I will walk the other way.
Ty Schmidt
You need.
Pat McAfee
Oh, in a good way. We'll gas it up. Not in a bad way.
Ty Schmidt
We need to find him somewhere where you can somehow get about six to eight whiskeys in him. And then you run that back and he's gonna scream, chase it. At the top of his lungs.
Pat McAfee
That's what I'm saying. It needs to be more. More relaxed atmosphere.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You know, he's in the middle of running, man.
Ty Schmidt
Tired of.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he was.
Boston Conner
Needs to be hanging off a ramp, you know.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. With your hat on. Yeah, There you go. And then you just so happen to be on the side of the road, just like you were in the national championship whenever you wanted to, or in the playoffs when you wanted that high five and they left you hanging. This time you're just going to poke your head out. He's going to be hanging off a Ram truck. And you're going to say, now's the time, bud. If you keep failing. And then he's going to give you a big one and you're going to get that full moment.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, maybe.
Darius J. Butler
For sure.
AJ Hawk
The photo, probably not.
Pat McAfee
Your head poking out like this. And him and Glenn. What a moment that's going to be for you. We practiced one time. It didn't go well.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I am not doing that again.
Pat McAfee
Shooter. Shooter. Come on.
Darius J. Butler
The second time. That's why it's called practice. Better.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
We have some breaking news. Julie Van Loo won gold in Euro basket for Team Belgium. And then she flies back to the United States. Report to Valkyries. What is this, Gumpy?
Gumpy
People are pissed off because she went and played for Belgium. She's flying back after they won. Missed the celebration. I guess she got released while she was on the flight back to the Valkyries.
Darius J. Butler
She got released.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Can you elaborate more on who this person is and what we are, why we'd be upset that she played with Belgium.
Gumpy
She's allegedly very good and she's from Belgium.
Darius J. Butler
Bring her here.
Gumpy
She plays for Golden State Falcons.
Darius J. Butler
Oh, so she left the middle of the WNBA season, went over there, played for Belgium.
Gumpy
Yeah.
Darius J. Butler
One came back, they cut her on the flight.
Pat McAfee
The Valkyries cut her?
Gumpy
Yeah. She's released Indiana Fever. That's what I'm saying.
AJ Hawk
Well, do you want something?
Tony
Did you miss a game here?
Pat McAfee
There's no more. Does Belgium have any more games throughout the W?
Gumpy
They just won it.
Darius J. Butler
It's over to your champion.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so she's got no more Belgium obligations there. Come on out to Indiana.
AJ Hawk
True.
Pat McAfee
She a fighter? We could use another fighter. Sophie?
Boston Conner
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
Did you see her? She wanted the 700, 000 Instagram followers. They are tick tock followers. They said after. After that one night, overnight.
Quentin Richardson
Wow.
AJ Hawk
I don't love that the W's doing this. They cut TJ's sister, Megan McConnell after she got hurt. I think that doesn't feel right.
Boston Conner
It's cutthroat league.
Pat McAfee
It is, yeah. They're also at a stage where I think they're. They need to start turning that thing up a little bit business wise. I think the time is now. Good luck to them. Indianapolis All Star Game. Ty will be there, Connor will be there. Gumpy's going there. We have boots on the ground here in Indianapolis at the W's All Star Game.
AJ Hawk
We might be out of town as a group.
Pat McAfee
Oh, it's the show somewhere.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Okay. We will find that out. If not, we will have Boots on the ground for sure. For the All Star game. All right, A.J. i hope you have a phenomenal summer. Tuesday. We're gonna get out of here. Shout out to the commissioner. Stopping by. Shout out to Q Rich. Stopping by. Thanks to Glen Powell. Thought we had the exclusive on the trailer. Turns out we did not. Three hours ahead of time. Still want to interview Glen. Still happy with how everything went. Do you guys want the exclusive trailer and a Glen Powell thing?
Ty Schmidt
I think so, yeah.
Pat McAfee
What an honor. Holy shit.
Tony
When did you find out it was running at 9?
Pat McAfee
You saw it pop up yesterday. We found out it was going to go at 9am So I immediately think, okay, so we're dropping this at 8:00am then, you know, that's my immediate thought. Just. Just as a naturally. Bingo. Like, all right, you guys go to 9am Sweet. We were told this can be exclusive. We're going to go at 8am Then we watched it and we thought to ourselves, let's let the running man do whatever the they want to do. Feels like they've taken care of our guy Glenn Pal. And it feels like this movie is going to be amazing. Yeah. So I'm happy as hell we got a chance to do it, but we. It was under the terms of exclusive trailer with Glenn. Good sell by them. If they would have just said Glenn Pal, we would have said, you got it.
Boston Conner
Yeah, sure.
Pat McAfee
Exclusive trailer. That trailer was sick.
Boston Conner
Great.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Conner
Good cast.
Pat McAfee
Is that. We had some of that Tom Cruise stuff too, I guess. And Netflix gave us some exclusive. That's a cool thing if people just want to give us exclusives.
Boston Conner
How did we quarterback this week?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it was like two and a half, three minutes long. That was awesome. Lions fans loved it.
Darius J. Butler
I was about to say if I was a Lions fan or golf fan, like that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's cool. Opportunity for us though, to get that, you know, like, that's it. Cuz normally if we would have done that in the past, we would have got strikes and sued by all these people.
Ty Schmidt
Correct.
Pat McAfee
Sued. We would. I would have got sued by these people. One of the reasons why I wanted to license. License my show through a network is because, like, the amount of like on the back end. Yeah. Hey, photo. Which was on somebody else's tweet was my. So you own this? This. This is worth this. It's like, yes. It'd be nice to have a little backup, you know, in this entire thing. So that's been good. That type of opportunity is amazing that we've gotten this to this point where we're able to just run a Paramount Movies trailer on our Tom Cruise's unseen on our show. That's outrageous.
Ty Schmidt
Crazy.
Tony
It's a big deal, man, because that's like. That's those people's lives, like, all of that that's riding on it.
Pat McAfee
And just to speak from the other side of it, like, I know what it used to be like if we were to accidentally put some of this shit out, what it. How much they value, how, like, the plan and where it goes, how it goes, when it goes, who is allowed to go. It's like I've gotten some hilarious letters from people telling me that I need to immediately take down, down the picture of the video that we put up where I'm gonna be sued for yada, yada, yada. And it's like, holy. Did we know that this was so. All right, we're gonna power on. I guess we'll see you in court. And we get a real one. Shout out to Brett Favre. Shout out.
Ty Schmidt
Shout out.
Pat McAfee
Hey, we'll never forget that.
Ty Schmidt
Nope.
Pat McAfee
How about him coming out?
Ty Schmidt
Morgan Wallen.
Tony
Yeah, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Amazing.
Pat McAfee
Good pop in Wisconsin, without a doubt.
Darius J. Butler
Out.
Ty Schmidt
You hear Brett say, boy, quite homecoming.
Pat McAfee
Drake was with him in Houston. People are saying his abs.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
What's going on with that? I think he just does only abs. Yeah, nobody brings that up. What if he's fully focused on abs?
Darius J. Butler
Maybe use that gimmick with the no.
Tony
Shocks your abs into having them.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah. 24 7. So when you're not doing it, because usually, you know, if you got shredded at, like, you got chest, shoulders, arms. Like, who? Tsp.
Quentin Richardson
Ric Flair.
Darius J. Butler
But I think he's gone through surgery and. Yeah, that was. That was very interesting.
Pat McAfee
The Drake photo. Yeah, yeah, he looked. The abs looked very jacked. Very, very, very jacked. A lot of people are saying they were fake. Do they have ab.
Darius J. Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Surgeries.
Darius J. Butler
AB etchings.
Boston Conner
Is that right?
Pat McAfee
Okay, I. I didn't know. I didn't know. What'd you say?
Tony
Can't you spray tan them on a little bit?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think you could shade it a little bit. But these looked. I mean, there's like, you know, on the side there. It's real. I think he's just doing a lot of abs. Everybody needs to just get off of Drake's abs. Hey, Drake, good work. It's paid off, brother. It's paid off. Morgan Wallen's walkouts continue to be one of the biggest stories of all of country music. How about his tour? Just stadium after stadium after stadium after stadium. That boy's Doing this is kind of what everybody's into right now. Is Wiz Khalifa start his big tour yet?
AJ Hawk
I believe so. Actually.
Pat McAfee
Jelly Roll and Post Malone are hitting stadiums around right now. Column's doing his tour right now. Jelly Rolls in Ohio.
Boston Conner
They were. And I think the 20 played Ohio Stadium.
Tony
Big deal. He did like Buckeye Country Super Festival. He was the main dude. Yeah, it's a big deal.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I mean right now is tour season for all these guys. Let's support the shit out of them and get some tickets on SeatGeek at all these concerts. Obviously SeatGeek is the greatest ticket buying platform on planet Earth and the moon. That's right. When now I've heard we got somebody on the moon right now, but when they start hosting live events on the moon, there will only be one app that you should buy the ticket for that event and that would be our friends at sea. SEA Geek gives you, you what you think you're getting. You don't get catfished. And also they kind of score all the tickets so you, you know if you're getting robbed or not. One to ten, red dot means bad ticket. Can get it for a better price somewhere else on the Internet. Good means like 6 to 7 to 10, green light will be in there. Hey, this is a good price, good ticket. You know they got your back and right now use promo code PAT, P A T. That's it. Pat. Okay.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, okay.
Pat McAfee
Get $30 off any ticket. You can be a return customer or a new user. You're alive, but are you living? Go live this summer. Go see a show. Go sing along. Go make a memory with our friends at se. What a time, what a time. Restrictions apply to the $30 off thing. If the ticket's less than 30 bucks, you're probably not going to get 30 bucks off. SE is not going to owe you money.
Ty Schmidt
No, no, it's not the way it works.
Pat McAfee
But if you're buying tickets to something awesome, which I think you should do. Give him as a gift. Yeah, maybe go for yourself. You don't have to be with anybody. Shout out to Gumpy. Gumpy's been going in these super duper World Club cup games all by himself out there living his life.
Gumpy
Use SEA Gig for the Inter Miami game on Saturday. Probably use it again this Saturday for PSG and Bayern Munich in Atlanta.
Pat McAfee
PSG just kind of smacked around Inter Miami, huh? They got out classed out there in Atlanta.
Gumpy
Yeah, they are no joke. They won the Champions League final five. Nothing against it. Inter Milan. So they kind of beat the out of everybody this year.
Pat McAfee
So PSG is the one who's going to win the $100 million super duper FIFA club.
Gumpy
They're favored right now, but this game against Bayern could be the game of the tournament. After Al Hilal, a team from Saudi, knocked off Man City, I saw Al.
Pat McAfee
Halal come in and really do it. They paid a lot of money to a lot of their players. But Saudi Arabian soccer league obviously feels legitimized after a big time win like this.
Gumpy
Yes. And allegedly each player got $5 million for winning that game.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so that's just one game. And then you look at the teams that were like Auckland, that were in this tournament. They had guys that were driving dump trucks on Tuesday, coming to Cincinnati on Thursday, playing goalie, giving up 10 goals. So certainly a variety of teams playing in this super duper cup. But it's gotten good as it's gotten later on. Right? Gum? Yeah.
Gumpy
We got Real Madrid and Juventus kicking off at 3. That should be be a banger as well.
Pat McAfee
All these are in America?
Gumpy
Yes, sir.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so these teams are actually coming over here, full squads, because normally whenever these teams go on tour in the United States of America, it's the backups, it's maybe the youth academies, the super fans get a chance to come take a picture that they were at one of these games. Oh, Juventus is playing in Pittsburgh. I'll go check it out. None of the stars play. Man City's playing in Phoenix. I'll go check it out. None of the stars play. Stars are actually playing in this. It feels like. Right?
Gumpy
Yeah. Because it's too much money. Team wins $100 million, that buys you probably, probably three top tier players to join your team for the start of the season in Europe.
Pat McAfee
So we like this.
Gumpy
It's, it's been awesome. I know a lot of the games haven't been filled, but I would argue anywhere in any country, some of these teams wouldn't have any fans at some of these games.
Pat McAfee
All right, cool. We're gonna look forward to that. How about Gold Cup? How about the Gold Cup? America's about to win this entire thing.
Gumpy
Yeah. We got Wednesday night, USA and Mexico, both big favorites. So we're looking at probably, if everything goes as planned, Sunday night, Mexico USA. Sunday night in Houston.
Pat McAfee
Who does USA have?
Gumpy
They have Guatemala.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Plus 800 for Guatemala to win. We're minus 380. We should win that one. But soccer is an interesting thing. This could be 00 until the 89th minute. And then Guatemala steals one. Didn't like the way we finished the second half. Love the way we finished the game though for the US Boys in the last round against Costa Rica. And then Mexico takes on obviously, obviously Honduras. And Honduras, not a bad squad. They're better than Guatemala.
Gumpy
They're about the same. Mexico's still heavy favorite to, to win.
Pat McAfee
This thing right now, Mexico, United States would be in Houston.
Gumpy
Yep. Sunday night, seven o' clock actually, 25th Gold cup in a row. USA has made at least the semi finals.
Darius J. Butler
Congratulations.
Tony
Have we won it?
Gumpy
Yeah, yeah. They win it a lot.
AJ Hawk
Jesus.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, and it's usually played by our, not our top guys. Like normally our top guys take off the Gold Cup. Like this is kind of something where you're looking for like the next batch of maybe us guys. Obviously it was a big storyline this year because we're preparing for a World Cup. We had a new coach and Christian Pulisic, our guy either didn't want to play in the pre games, the warm up games, but did say he wanted to play in the Gold cup to get with the team. Ponch new coach said, don't worry about it. We want full commitment or not no commitment. We're just going to build this team and get ready for the World Cup. Now we got this younger group of guys, younger group of lads who nobody really knew about at the beginning of this tournament and now they're kind of peacocking a little bit. These dudes got a lot of swagger, got a lot of moxie. Paunch is also yelling into the camera. It's like the USA team is maybe finding what we should be, which is a fiery, scrappy, gritty, electrifying bunch. Is that not accurate? Yeah.
Gumpy
If they can rally around and win this, it'd be huge. Because there was a story, and I should have brought this up yesterday, about Saturday night, 8 o' clock, some guy put out a story that Pochettino took an interview with Brentford, an English team, and it was complete. So they asked Pochettino about it. He said, I never took an interview. He turned down an interview with Tottenham, who he used to coach. So I think that's why that was such a massive moment, why he did that to the camera. And the boys are really rallying around him right now.
Pat McAfee
I like them. I've liked them since the beginning, like even. And we learned of Christian Pulisic story later on. But even the story of him saying we don't want you then if you don't want to be here. That was kind of how it was rolled out at the beginning is like Christian Pulisic didn't want to do this, and Ponch said, cool, I don't want you to do it. Christian Pulisic actually did want to play, but didn't want to do all the, like, the training, I think, because he's just coming out of two leagues leading up to it. So he wanted a breather, I think, which has happened in the past, especially with the Gold Cup. But I love the. That Ponch was trying to find his team and he's had success in the past. It's like what we've been doing hasn't been working. If we can add some dogs, maybe we win this thing. Shout to soccer. We might have it. We might have the guy and then the goalie. Freeze.
Tony
Yes. He's always that good. I mean, has he always been a stud? Because I. I watched the majority of this game and he was awesome.
Pat McAfee
So he's six and one now. I believe in penalties now. That was his first international penalty, but I guess in the league that he's in there, he's done six prior and he was four and one or five and one. I forget what it was going into this night. They made the stat and then he came out afterwards. Like, penalties are kind of my thing, you know, it was kind of. It's kind of my game. 6 foot 4, has a good read on people. Seemingly a dog. And I think America has a little bit more bite on this team than we've had in the past. We had too much razzle dazzle, too much pizzazz.
Gumpy
Diego Luna, absolute dog. He kind of said, sets the tone in the middle. All the young lads.
Pat McAfee
What's that?
AJ Hawk
They need to stop conceding.
Boston Conner
Yeah, they concede like a. Sometimes it's just.
Darius J. Butler
What is.
Boston Conner
It's like, dude, hey, no more conceding.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I saw somebody sent a text into the group saying all they do is concede. Bruce, what did you mean by that whenever you said USA just concedes all the time. So much conceding. I mean, across the pond, I think it's a pretty popular soccer term to. To concede a goal, to allow a goal. Where in America?
Ty Schmidt
I. I would like more United States clean sheets.
Tony
That mean they meant to give it up?
Pat McAfee
No, I think you just give up a goal is what conceding is. This game was 2. 2 going into shootout, by the way, just so we understand that now two goals is a lot of goals in soccer. Awesome.
Quentin Richardson
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
No, it.
Quentin Richardson
It is.
Pat McAfee
We.
Ty Schmidt
We got a problem in the back end. I understand Matt Freeze is a dog in the penalties, but you know, our.
Pat McAfee
Our defensemen, our, you know, center backs.
Ty Schmidt
And the like, we got to short things up.
Pat McAfee
Maybe keep a clean sheet against Guatemala here. I concede that you're conceding. Comments are potentially accurate. Conceded again.
Quentin Richardson
Conceded again.
Ty Schmidt
There goes U.S. soccer.
Pat McAfee
They've conceded again. Okay. He's got. He's even got a little jingle about the entire. I don't know if I love that, but he's saying we need more from the bowlers on the back end is what he's saying it sounds like. And hopefully they get it tightened up as the Gold cup semifinals happen tomorrow night. Yeah, of course. Commissioner's cup tonight.
AJ Hawk
Fun fact about the Gold cup, either Mexico or the US has won every single Gold cup since 2002.
Boston Conner
Suck it.
Pat McAfee
Honduras and Guatemala and Saudi Arabia now, too.
Ty Schmidt
That's right.
Pat McAfee
What's that, AJ Is.
Tony
Is Ronaldo on? He's not playing for the Saudi team in this. This tournament.
Pat McAfee
It. He's not on Portugal.
Ty Schmidt
Saudi Arabia, pal.
Tony
He plays on a Saudi. Saudi team, though. In a Saudi league.
Boston Conner
I don't know.
AJ Hawk
Portugal resident.
Pat McAfee
You're talking about the FIFA.
Tony
I didn't know there's two tournaments going on. You started showing this FIFA thing, and I'm thinking the Super Duper World Cup. Gold Cup.
Pat McAfee
There's an international.
Tony
I know, but why aren't there guys on. Aren't there guys in this FIFA super cup that want to play in the other Super Duper World Cup?
Pat McAfee
I think they are, aren't they? Are they not playing in both these things? Because normally this would be an international national break.
Tony
Feels like it's going on at the same time.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
I don't think there's any players in the FIFA Club World cup in the Gold Club.
Pat McAfee
So are we talking about. I don't like the way you said that. Yeah.
Gumpy
Weston McKinney is playing for Juventus, not United States, in the Gold cup, you know.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but Paunch said. We don't care. Yeah. We don't want. You. You don't want to play.
Boston Conner
It's our B team anyway.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so let's move to a different sport about cannibalism of your stomach. Talking about soccer right now with the Super Duper Club cup and then the International Concave Gold Cup. What's going on with lacrosse? You kind of dropped a little bit of a bomb there yesterday. You sound like a journalist. You sound like a lacrosse journalist.
Boston Conner
Sure.
Pat McAfee
And you're like. From what I'm hearing from. Source says is that the future of lacrosse is not in a good spot, especially with where Pll is thinking about moving and where NLL currently exists. And then you even said there's a chance that NL is just Canada and PLL is the way America operates rates and professional levels. Is there a chance they're going to. What did you mean by that? Is that real? Are we.
Boston Conner
Yeah, that. No, it is.
Pat McAfee
As somebody that just learned about nll, I'm pretty bored. I'm pretty bummed out about that.
Boston Conner
It is. It's definitely bad news, I think.
Pat McAfee
Is it definitely bad news or potential good news?
Boston Conner
I think it's definitely bad news. Unless there's some sort of agreement, which I doubt there will be. PLL sign with ESPN definitely helps pll. I think if you are a lacrosse player looking at the future of it, you probably, probably want to play in the pll just because those NLL games aren't really getting broadcasted that much in America. That's why it's become kind of split because the NLL is. It's tsn, which is the Canadian kind of network. And then obviously ESPN would be the United States network. I'm not sure when it comes to playing actually Dale or Styr.
Pat McAfee
Oh, he's bummed out about lacrosse or.
Boston Conner
You don't care a little bit about all the above.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Conner
At the end of the day, if, if no matter when lacrosse is played, if it's outside of July and August, people are going to have a hard time caring if the NLL is awesome and it is great in Canada, but if it's played from, you know, December to April or May, whenever it is, no one's going to watch. And same with the plo. The PLO starts too early. They start the week after when college across ends. And that's when the NHL and NBA finals are kind of really picking up. So they need the PLL and both cross leagues, they need a four make one and they need to play in July and August.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, well, I don't. I think they need. They can have a winter and a summer. I think they can do that.
Boston Conner
The reality of is we're not, we're not going to watch in the winter. The thing we watch, we don't even watch the NBA.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but if nlo, if NLL played on Tuesdays, Tuesday, Wednesday, I guess it's.
Boston Conner
NBA in the winter. NBA. I'm pretty sure Wednesday nights are NBA on espn. But like it's, it's the NFL season and the Wednesday night, you know, if, if the choice during the winter is Wednesday night NBA with, you know, Cooper flag or LeBron and the Lakers and then the redwoods versus the chaos. I just don't think.
Pat McAfee
And I love. Love lacrosse.
Ty Schmidt
Pretty easy choice.
Boston Conner
I love lacrosse. It's. It's just the reality of the situation is the open months in sports are July and August. And if you have a professional league and you want to look at the big three, the big three, they play all of July and August because they know that's when it's open.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you, I love the nll, though. Like, I really enjoy the way their sport is. I enjoy what it is.
Darius J. Butler
I just.
Pat McAfee
I fear that it's.
Tony
It's play at like 3pm or something.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, like a matinee it. Or a daytime game. Yeah, that's. I was thinking about that as well. No prime time games, but maybe in the morning. Maybe do a morning.
Tony
I'd wake up and watch. That'd be cool.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Well, wake up. 8:00am you know, game's on. Why not Korean baseball? Get my coffee.
Darius J. Butler
Oh, you wouldn't. I just love how it's just one of us. Just sprinkle like. You care about cross. Most of us don't give a. Yeah, Gump. Soccer. Most don't give. I care about F4. I love it. Yeah, I love it. It's your turn.
Pat McAfee
I love what we all care about.
Ty Schmidt
Nascar. Exactly.
Pat McAfee
All right, let's get out of here.
Ty Schmidt
I just.
Pat McAfee
You know, if this goes in, maybe Junior will reach out to you.
Ty Schmidt
Okay. There's a lot on the line here.
Pat McAfee
Oh, no.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, short armed it.
Boston Conner
Maybe Senior. In your dreams tonight.
Tony
Nice.
Pat McAfee
Hey. Boom. Great chain nuts.
AJ Hawk
Great, great.
Pat McAfee
Shout out, foxy.
Tony
Those are nice. Those are awesome.
Pat McAfee
We had them in the old office. Had to bring them back after you suggested it. Yeah, it's just so much better. It is, you know, the sound. And also it feels like the hoop's bigger. I mean, you see that? Maybe this.
Darius J. Butler
Oh, wait a minute. Oh.
Pat McAfee
I mean, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Are we back? Yeah, we were always chained net guys. Yeah, you're right. Holy hell. That's pretty far there. Yeah, that's pretty far there. That felt good coming out. I hit a drought there for a while, but it feels like with the chain that's back. Yeah, we're all the way back.
Quentin Richardson
Boom.
Pat McAfee
Thank you, Foxy. All right, be a friend. Tell a friend something nice about change your life. We're in this thing to together. We're back tomorrow. Team on me. Hey, great work in the back, aj. Great work today.
Tony
Thank you. You too.
Pat McAfee
What?
Tony
You weren't asking me to expound upon.
Pat McAfee
It, did you Guys see the Yang Yang Twins.
Boston Conner
It's bad.
Darius J. Butler
Was that really.
Pat McAfee
That was real.
AJ Hawk
Was that SeaWorld?
Pat McAfee
Did I say I didn't know? Still got it.
Darius J. Butler
I got questions.
Pat McAfee
Tell you there was something you might like to. To hear him. I have to say. Mind if I touch his. See if it's. So now I'm just saying that she said I can't. And I'm known to be a real nasty.
AJ Hawk
Did I see an orca twerking?
Pat McAfee
I don't. Did they rent that out for a concert? Because I was looking. There wasn't a lot of kids in the stands. No.
Tony
The adults were into it, though.
Pat McAfee
And I saw some real twerking going on at the crowd. It felt like people were really doing. I didn't see a lot of dancing from Ying or Yang. I think he was kind of more of a stationary performer. But that run was awesome. I'm thankful I was alive during all of that.
Darius J. Butler
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Hell, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Let's have a Ying Yang Twins afternoon. Boom into the evening.
AJ Hawk
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Let's remember that we're allowed to bring the juice like Little John. Eastside boys. Okay. Let's have a day. We'll see you tomorrow. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, three. Team. Goodbye. In 1979, the first words spoken on ESPN weren't just an announcement. If you're a fan, they were a sports prophecy. What you'll see in the next minutes, hours, and days to follow.
