Pat McAfee
Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to the scoring grounds of Canton, Ohio. It's hall of fame Thursday. Glad 31st this program starts now. Football is absolutely magical. And today is the day that we could say that the NFL is officially kicking off its 2025 season. Here we go. Now, today, just like many years in the past, this season will start right here at a place that has been honoring legends since 1963. This is the home of the Pro Football hall of Fame. It is raining and we clearly don't have speakers for the crowd. But what we do have is an excitement level beyond belief because football is back in our life for real tonight. Harbaugh will be on one sideline, mcdc will be on the other. And I believe we have a little bit of breaking news for the Detroit Lions fans tonight. Starting for the Detroit Lions, according to source, Kyle Allen will be getting the start, but we will be seeing Hendon Hooker from what we have been told. Now for the Chargers, we do not have any inside source, but as that information rolls out today, we will certainly keep everybody updated. Tonight's game will not be littered with superstars. It will not be the guys that we know on every single part of the team. But it will be two NFL helmets battling in front of a building that celebrates greatness from beginning to end in a town that loves ball. Loves ball. We've only been able to be here for like the last 18, 20 hours or so, but as you drive through this town, it literally emanates ball. Everybody here loves ball. Everybody's committed to the hall of Fame. And there's actually telephone pole wires that hold up that are two uprights, field goals. This entire city is committed to ball. And we're lucky to be here. It's not just me, obviously. It's obviously the boys. The toxic table is here at Boston Conner. Not bad. They get it. And Ty Schmidt. Now, Ty, Green Bay Packers. Sterling Sharp going into the hall of Fame. Congrats to him. We'll have a chance to chat with most of this year's class. But the hall of Fame, beautiful thing. Lucky to be here. Cannot wait to walk through and see all the history of the greatest league on earth.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, without a doubt. You know, we talked about this a little bit. I don't know if any of us. I mean, I don't know if you guys have. I know, us three, we've never actually walked through and had a tour of the hall of Fame. It kind of seems like something. If you're a fan of the NFL, you absolutely need to do you know, at one point in your life. So really looking forward to that. Obviously, you know, all the, all the fans out here braving the weather, but let's be honest, I mean kicking off the NFL season is football weather.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, damn right.
AJ Hawk
You got football weather today.
Pat McAfee
And you know, it was like 145 degrees yesterday up there in La Trobe, Pennsylvania for the Pittsburgh Steelers training kit. Okay now fun fact that we learned from Jim, president of the Pres. Pro Football hall of Fame. Whenever they were creating the pro football. There's some answers here for sure. Yes, yes, definitely some yers here. Whenever they were going to create this hall of Fame back in the 60s, 1963, it was either going to be placed in Latrobe, Pennsylvania or it was going to be in Canton, Ohio. So we just found that out this morning. Very cool football trip that we have been on over the last two days. And obviously you can't come to this state without mentioning a man who's a former president of this state, a college football national champion with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ladies and gentlemen, the all time leading tackle for the Packers, A.J. hawk is there. A.J. with his uncomfortable and awkward point at a random kid in the crowd right here.
Ty Schmidt
This nice lady right here.
Pat McAfee
Not just a nice lady here. There's been people that have been here since like 6am, 7am it's raining. We appreciate the hell out of you for doing this. We would not have done that for this particular show, but we appreciate that you are doing as such. The state of Ohio has been great to us. Feel a lot of kinship with the state of Ohio as people that grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania obviously. I go to school at West Virginia. These hills, these people, very similar. Everybody Loves Ball, A.J. i think that is one of the fabrics of the state of Ohio and why the Pro Football hall of Fame in Ohio seemingly makes the most sense.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, it makes sense, I think. I mean look at like Ty said, this is, this is football weather for people that actually truly care about football, not casuals. Yeah, they're here around the set, but I think they would be here either way, going around checking out the festivities because this truly is the start off. Can't really catch it through my earpiece.
Pat McAfee
On that one, but yeah, we got.
Ty Schmidt
A couple good ones. Yeah, there are people from all over though. I would imagine there's people like there's people from every NFL city here, don't you think?
Pat McAfee
Yes.
Ty Schmidt
Imagine this weekend, so big for that.
Pat McAfee
Last night outside of the hotel there was representatives getting autographs from every team People travel in here. People do an annual trip out to the hall of Fame. I'm learning as we go. This is my first time here other than whenever we played a game here and it got canceled. Sure don't love that that that happened. Wow. But it was awesome to only play four preseason games. Not for me, but for the rest of the team. I don't have to do shit in preseason. I was just a punter. With that being said, one of my teammates, nine year NFL vet, one of the smartest guys in the history of football. Ladies and gentlemen, Derrick Shay ballers. NFL football is kicking off a game tonight. NFL helmets will be on a field tonight. NFL uniforms will be on a field tonight. Why Sunday Night Football with NBC will be calling a game tonight. It feels like we made it. D. Butch. What a perfect time. Yeah. Your mic isn't working. Come on. You know what it is. Hey, I don't want to say it, but you know.
Darius Butler
No, I'm not gonna put that out.
Pat McAfee
It is Ohio.
AJ Hawk
You're back.
Pat McAfee
Kinda. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Okay. Kinda.
Boston Connor
It is Ohio.
Darius Butler
Great times in Ohio. Had a great time last night. You know, at the hotel. We have some food and just seeing all the legends out there. And it's about the guys that are playing tonight. But it's more so about the four legends going in. What's that?
Pat McAfee
What? Nothing. The hell.
Adam Schefter
Sorry.
Darius Butler
But yeah, it's about the legends go. They're going down in immortality in football. Man, they put so much on the line. I saw so many people, players, coaches, contributors walking around the hotel that I grew up looking up to, man. So I'm excited about tonight. And then obviously our future going forward. We'll have Sunday after Sunday after Sunday, Sunday after Sunday with football on the screen.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so there you just mentioned, right? Sunday after Sunday after Sunday after Sunday. That's all the way until February. February. Yeah. We did it.
Darius Butler
Long time.
Pat McAfee
Zito found this pen in David Baker's office. I guess he left it around. This was his office.
Darius Butler
Still here.
Pat McAfee
Former head of the hall of Fame, he has since moved on. These big ass pencils might be the best thing you could buy at this Pro Football hall of Fame. But with that being said, the mark store that is outside the merchant is here museum. The hospitality of everybody that has worked at this Pro Football hall of Fame. It's a lot of, I think it's like 90% people that just live in this area. A lot of pride. Very thankful for everybody that comes in. If you've not made a trip here, I think this is something you have to do legitimately. I think if you're a football fan, I think this building right here. We saw cursive written letter from 1925 that had implications on how football would be run forever. We saw the actual letter that was sent from Lamar Hunt to Pete Roselle back whenever the AFL was going to merge with the NFL or whatever it was. And I'll tell you what, I don't know who he is, but there's a guy named Larry.
Boston Connor
We don't know his name for a reason.
Pat McAfee
He was from the afl. He's the first thing that Lamar Hunt talks about in this letter to the Pete Roselle. Need to get rid of this guy. Okay. I don't like what he's about. Then down there, number point, number five in this letter he says we need something like the Grey Cup. We need something like Wimbledon. We need something that's big. I have jokingly called it the super bowl, but we can obviously workshop that in this letter from 19 whenever, 60 something. And then obviously that would go on to become the biggest game in the history of any league. And it's like there's artifacts like that from our league and from our game littered all over this building that I didn't know existed until they showed it to us earlier today. I saw my draft card, the one that was actually turned in whenever I got drafted. It's like this is football paradise and it's the right spot to kick off a league every single year. Now we are joined by a man named. Well, he's one half of the Hammer Die Cowboys. AP Tone Tony, are we gambling on the hall of Fame game tonight and what should we be looking at?
Boston Connor
We are 100% gambling on the hall of Fame game as you said. You know, two teams with NFL helmets are playing tonight. So we're definitely gambling on. The Lions are favored by a point and a half. So basically call pick them. So you just pick the the winner tonight. You, you mentioned that big news tonight that Kyle Allen will probably be the starter for the Lions. And then Hendon Hooker. We'll see some time. Kyle Allen was really good in the preseason last year for the steelers. He was 17 and 23 of 23 and get one game that he got and then the Chargers side, they have announced Trey Lance will be the starter for at least a half and then you get DJ Yu.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, up and down.
Boston Connor
So you'll see DJ you late. I normally side with the quarterbacks who I would give the advantage to Kyle Allen and Hennen Hooker in this spot. Trey Lance threw Five interceptions in one preseason game last year. I don't know, though. The Harbaugh record is a lot better in preseason games than mcdc.
Pat McAfee
All right, so it sounds like you.
Boston Connor
Both sides.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah, it sounds like we didn't really get an answer.
Boston Connor
I'm laying in Chargers.
Darius Butler
You're betting on this game? You might have to call the number. No, that's my.
Boston Connor
Talk about NFL football.
Jared Allen
It's been so long. Deep, but don't.
Pat McAfee
This is March Madness of NFL football.
Boston Connor
Chargers are playing the rook. They're rookies, too. Amari on Hampton's gonna play. Trey Harris is gonna play. It's gonna be exciting to see those.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Excited to watch game. Gambling on it, though, is pretty wild. We have no idea what's gonna happen out there and who's gonna run what plays. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, senior insider at espn, Ladies and gentlemen, friend of the program, Michigan man Adam Schefter. Yes, Che. Nothing like a. How you doing, Chef? Just. Can you give us one? Oh, real quick, just to hear how the reaction goes, baby. Chef.
Jared Allen
He's good, Chef.
Pat McAfee
He's traveling from one posh event to another. We understand how Michigan operates. Chef. Can we get a couple quick updates before we get a chance to speak to these hall of Famers? Trey Hendrickson has come out and said, hey, nothing's changed. Where do we stand with Trey Hendrickson over there in Cincinnati? And the boys are very disappointed in Trey Hendrickson. How is everybody else kind of feel about this? Well, listen, they have near agreement on the length of the deal, the value of the deal, but not the guaranteed money in the deal, and that's all right. I see a Schefter.
Darius Butler
Ohio's good.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if that was just the entire state throttling Chef there. I don't know if that was the Cincinnati Bengals throttling Shefty there, but I do know I couldn't hear a word he was saying, but it sounds like from what Trey Hendrickson has said, nothing has changed. And in my eyes, the only thing he would be trying to do is extend an olive branch. You guys, you, not me.
Jared Allen
Definitely it was you.
Pat McAfee
You're on SportsCenter yesterday saying this guy tucked his tail. That's what you said it? I said he definitely said it. What if a deal gets done here? I think that would be considered a success. But it seems like everybody's thinking that Trey Hendrickson looks like a.
Jared Allen
A coward is what we said yesterday. But I don't know.
Pat McAfee
You said not. Everybody else said that. He is Trying to get back into ball. He wants to get a deal done. That's what I think is a good thing. But business wise, I don't know how this works out for him. I hope it gets done, but every day he's not on the field, it's a new D coordinator, right? Yeah. New D line coach, new everything. Is he getting traded? Like, how do we see this ending? If we could just put kind of a bow on Trey Henderson.
Jared Allen
I see him just eating $350,000 in fines and then playing, and then, you know, hopefully he has a great year, and then next year he has a great free agency where he does get the money he wants. But coming in and saying, like, yeah, no, nothing's changed. I'm just. I'm just here now. It's like, okay, well, everything you set out to do, you've accomplished none of it. So that kind of stinks. We all, like we said yesterday, think Trey deserves $35 million a year. So because of that, if you and other people believe that, which a majority of the people do, then you stay like. It reminds you the Chris Jones thing. When Chris Jones was going with the Chiefs, he was eating all those fines, but he still stayed strong. He missed the first actual game against the Lions at home when on Banner Night, he was up there with the Katz brothers in the suite. And then he got paid a bunch of money. And then after he got paid a bunch of money, he got an extension. So it's like, hey, Trey, you did the exact opposite thing. You bent the knee to Mike Brown, who was basically shitting on you for three months. Katie Blackburn was saying stuff about you for three months. And now after this started in February, it's over in July with you basically just looking like an absolute clown.
Pat McAfee
Because that's from your point of view.
Jared Allen
From my point of view, because you deserve $35 million and you're going to play for 16.
Pat McAfee
Well, we'll see. Maybe they'll give him a little bit of a raise. Maybe this olive branch will be nice. Because that was originally being talked about. All I know is Trey Hendrickson back in football camp. It's because he's a football guy. Yeah. Love you, Trey.
Boston Connor
He's a good team guy.
Pat McAfee
He's a good team guy. He's talking to Shamar. Hey, can't just run your shoulder into an offensive lineman's chest. Not going to work. Maybe use your arms a little bit. That's good news. Maybe the Bengals make a run. And also people are saying that Joe Burrow right now is Looking better than he's ever looked. This is the best Joe Burrow that they've ever seen. Obviously, he's only had a couple healthy training camps. The Cincinnati Bengals notoriously start very slow, put themselves in such a deep hole that all they're trying to do is climb out of it the rest of the season. Will this year be different? And is Dre Hendrickson starting week one?
Darius Butler
Oh, yes.
Jared Allen
Let me say yes, because even if.
Ty Schmidt
He signed three days before the game, he should start.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. AJ How'd you feel about being on Sports Center? Telling Trey Hendrickson, I see I missed that.
Ty Schmidt
You let me know when I got here. Exactly.
Boston Connor
You were a player.
Ty Schmidt
That's how they popped me up. You know, taking out of context, I think I was talking, I was speaking as if I was.
Pat McAfee
Classic journalism. Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to celebrate the hall of Fame. It is time to celebrate this year's class, ladies and gentlemen. Joining us now is a man who is the all time leader in touchdowns at the tight end position. Change the game. Kent State basketball legend, Chargers icon, now officially Pro Football hall of Famer. Ladies and gentlemen, Antonio Gates. Yeah.
Jared Allen
Careful, it's slippy.
Darius Butler
Athlete.
Ty Schmidt
It's an athlete down there.
Darius Butler
What's up, man? Yeah, careful. Don't lean back.
Pat McAfee
Hey, what you say? There got to be an athlete to get up here? Yeah, man.
Antonio Gates
You got to be the major athlete to get up here on this list.
Pat McAfee
Well, thank God it's you because we went through your today. I. I don't think we knew your history. We knew you were a Kent State basketball player. We had no idea that you were enrolled at Michigan State. When Coach Saban was there, asked to play both sports, he said no, not going to do that. I think even you're going to the defensive side. Yeah. Then you transferred to Eastern Michigan or something like that.
Antonio Gates
I was on tour like, like an artist.
Pat McAfee
Then you went to juco. Then you went to Kent State. And I was committed to Kent State at. In high school my senior year for a point. Went up on a visit. They have a whole mural about Antonio Gates up there and you hooping. And it was like real. Like you were like real Hooper. Now the world knows you as the greatest tight end touchdown scorer of all time. When you think back to those days, did you know that the Cards were going to be football? Did you think it was going to be basketball? Like, when you look back now as an official hall of Famer, I think it all worked out well. But was there a lot of moments of, like, wonder how it was going to go for you.
Antonio Gates
Well, you know, you always, you know, you're always optimistic that things will go the right direction, but for me, it was just all about basketball at that point, I think, you know, even when I went to Michigan State, me going to Michigan State was me, you know, having an opportunity to play the game of basketball. So never in a million years that I thought I'd be standing here in Canton, Ohio, being a pro football hall.
Pat McAfee
Of Famer, where you're sitting right now, you will be standing later. But nonetheless, it all remains. And we looked up your stats. 955 catches, 11,841 receiving yards, 116 touchdowns, most in the history of the NFL. You and Philip Rivers had a great connection, but the way you played the position was so much different than everybody in the past. How easy was it transforming into a tight end in the NFL? And then how easy was it transforming the position of tight end forever? Because if you look now, a lot more Antonio Gates at tight end than there was before. You got delete. You changed the game forever, brother.
Antonio Gates
Yes, I appreciate that. Well, it wasn't easy because I got cursed out a lot. So just so we clear, I got cursed out a lot. I did a lot of off platform things. And at the time, I think that is what it means to redefine certain things. When you do things off platform, people don't agree with them at times. I like to use the analogy of the enemy of great is good.
Pat McAfee
Hell yeah.
Antonio Gates
You know, so that was kind of what it was for me. I would see guys who did it the right way. And obviously as a basketball player, I had things that I was used to doing, creating separation. And you know, I was going against guys six' nine, 16, so I had to find a way to get my shot off at times. So playing the game of football, I would do that. And guys say, coach, say go to 16. I'm like, well, he's sitting at 16, coach, I'm gonna go to 14. You know, a guy, you know, a guy that knock your head off sitting at 16 yards, I'm not going to 16. And I think what happened is that they start giving me the ability to make the adjustment. And I think when you think of a good athlete, you think of his ability to adapt in the actual space at that moment. And so when I would run a route, I really don't never really know what I'm about to do. I just make the adjustment at the right time. And I think that's what gave me an opportunity to be Successful in the game of football.
Pat McAfee
So on that note, we were talking about you earlier today. AJ Hawk was a rookie and preseason game. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know if you remember the rep. He does. You were on. I think you're at the end of the line. Then you motioned out a little bit. Yeah. And A.J. hawk, linebacker, has you. A.J. was trying to disguise that he was not covering you. Okay. You knew this guy. You guys did a skim milk check on this guy, and he said that you hit him with. How many moves did you say?
Ty Schmidt
Felt like 15 moves within like a half a second.
Pat McAfee
And obviously you got wide open. You get a catch. And then he said immediately afterwards, you were like, hey, you gotta look at my hips, dude. Coaching them up. How much of that. What was your relationship like with the guys that you played against? And at what point did you realize, like, oh, I can get open against basically anybody?
Antonio Gates
Well, I think, you know, it's a natural reinforcement when you make, you know, catch passes. So when I first started in the NFL, I. I went against a guy named Rod Woodson, and he was playing safety for the Raiders at the time. And I was. I was a rookie, and I had been playing video games with Rob Woodson, but my whole life. So I remember Drew Brees was the quarterback at the time, and they called him to play. And it's like a slot. I'm out the slot formation his backside, and it's one on one. I got a corner out. And in my mind, I'm thinking, I've been playing video games with Rob Woodson. There's no way I'm going to get open against this dude. He's a Hall of Famer, right. So I went up and made a catch on Rob Woodson. It was like a third down conversion. And I think what happens is that it sends a signal to your brain that I belong here. And I think ultimately, the more plays I made, the more I felt like, okay, you know what? I belong here. I think you got to have it mentally first before you can obviously play it and let it come out in the game. So you got to have it mentally to make no mistake about it. No matter how humble I sound, how humble I see when I play, I feel like I got this dude, I can beat him. You got to have that part in order for it to, you know, come to fruition in real life.
Pat McAfee
The conversation with the lads afterwards, that was Rod Woodson, bro. Yeah. Did you see that? Has a question for you.
Darius Butler
Yeah. A lot of the guys playing now look up Pat Mentioned it, you changed, you changed the position. But who were some of those legends, some of those hall of Famers? I know Keller Williams senior, Kellen Winslow senior, played for the Chargers. Who were some of those legends you looked up to coming up at the tight end position?
Antonio Gates
Well, you know, again, basketball was my forte. I didn't really have, you know, guys that I would say I look up to in a sense. But I know the idea of when you make things happen is the respect factor of guys who've created the lane for you. And you name the guy like Kellon Winslow senior, you, you know, Marty Schoenheim would always say, you know, he would compare me to Ozzie Newsome a lot. Right. I'm from Detroit, so I knew a lot about Charlie Sanders, guys that just paved the way and created that lane. So, you know, when you think about the sport and then you obviously know the Tony Gonzalez is in the Shannon Sharps and the younger guys now. So it's so many guys and I like to use analogy to. Because they always talk about, you know, who's the best tight end or who's the best this. And that's the comparison in sports. But the reality of it is is that I treat it like a four by one team. We all had the baton at one time and we ran as fast as we can. And I think that's really what it's all about is now we're passing it to the next generation. And I see guys like George Kittles, you know what I mean, the guys that's keeping it going. And I think that's what it was for me. A guy gave it to me and I had it at one moment and I said, I got to run my best race.
Machine Gun Kelly
And then pass it to.
Antonio Gates
Somebody else and hopefully they run, hey, it's your turn. You got to run fat as you can. I think that's really what it's all about. And I hope, you know, now you see the generation and they constantly growing at the position. So I'm happy to be a part of that.
Pat McAfee
How do you feel about Seidan University and everything like that? Talk about changing the position? I mean, that was kind of the goal of that is like, I think it was financial business talk too. Like, hey, we're starting to catch the ball a lot more and they're trying to talk about us as tackles were actually wide receivers as the market kind of changed for everybody, but also like give an inside game to everybody. You talk about passing the baton feels like they're trying to do that have you witnessed that from afar? Have you gone to it? What are your thoughts on it?
Antonio Gates
Well, I was. I was invited to it, but I haven't been yet. But I do like what they're doing.
Pat McAfee
And I think you missed the Taylor Swift concert. Yeah.
Antonio Gates
Yeah, right. My daughter be mad about that. Yeah, I do like what they're doing, because at the end of the day, that's really what it's about, right?
Pat McAfee
It's.
Antonio Gates
Is serving a purpose and being. Having a platform to be able to say, all right, well, I had this opportunity to do X, Y and Z, and this is the space that I was in. Now, let's. Let me tell you what you should do and what you shouldn't do. And I think that is a great idea for the tight ends, the next generation.
Pat McAfee
AJ Has a question for you. As a Ohio guy hits the horn as he rides by the highway you.
Ty Schmidt
Mentioned, it's fascinating to listen to you talk about running routes, and I would assume, like, you had a lot of freedom to run, you know, work off the leverage of your defender. Like, was that always a thing when you were young, getting into the league? And obviously, how do you build that rapport with Drew Brees, obviously, Philip Rivers, who saw the connection you guys had? Like, how do you earn that trust in the quarterback and the coach to where, hey, I'm gonna.
Pat McAfee
Hey, I'm gonna get open. Yeah, you throw.
Antonio Gates
You throw me one. Yeah, well, you gotta earn it. That's for sure. You know, I think what happens is that it's repetition. It starts with underneath the surface. So they would know that at the end of the day, I'm working beyond my means. So it means more to me to have success than it does to the coach, staff and everybody around me. I think that's just something that you build. That's what training camp is for, right? You start them dog days, that foundation. You're working hard. I'm the last one to leave. I'm working hard. I'm running more, I'm running extra, I'm doing extra. And ultimately, when I get out there, it means just as much for me to do it right than anything, because I know guys are depending on me. So that was my philosophy going into any game, is that, man, these dudes believe in me. The game plan is surrounded by number 85. I need to make sure I deliver. And I think that meant the world to me, that guys would believe in me to that level. So I would always make sure I would do the best I can and, you know, set the tone. You Know the fast as I can.
Pat McAfee
Ty has a question for you. Hall of Fame, Antonio G. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
So just, just curious. He just, he just mentioned Phil Rivers there in terms of like, whenever his name gets brought up, it's always, hey, is this guy a Hall of Famer? Obviously we see his numbers, they're incredible. But then the super bowl discussion always comes up. What was it like having him as a teammate? We've all seen the videos. Like his person, I truly believe he's one of one in terms of like his personality. When you look back at your career, like, how thankful were you to have a guy like that as your quarterback? And just what was it like being teammates?
Pat McAfee
Wow.
Antonio Gates
I mean, you talking about a fiery, passionate. His IQ was unmatched, man. I always knew that he was gonna come compete. I think that's what we had in common, is that our ability to go out and compete. I knew he was gonna give it his all and he's gonna trash talk along the way. So I mean, you know, so you gotta, you gotta be prepared because he'll be trash talking to guys that you got to be block. So that was the hardest thing is, you know, guy, you know, Richard Seymour was a big dude, Phillip. So you know, you keep talking to him. I got a trade block Richard Seymour and he's mad at Philip, you know what I'm saying? So it's the greatest, it's the greatest fit in the world to have a guy like that on your side because it makes the game fun too. Because at the end of the day we play the game for all the other stuff, X's and O's and. But you kind of keep that same kid energy, that 14, 15 year old kid. Let's go out here and have fun, man. We playing in the NFL, that's man. We got the best job in the world. We get to play games and get paid. That's man, that's what he loved to do, is he loved to play football.
Pat McAfee
You look pretty jocked. Still look pretty jocked. I don't know if that's just going to be forever you or if you're still getting after it or not. You think you don't get enough credit for being able to block? Nobody ever mentioned your name.
Antonio Gates
I know, I know. Well, people don't know this, but in order to start for Marty Shinheimer, you got to be able to block power and counter, man. So I started with Marty Shinheimer in the reason why I started is because my ability to block power and Trey Black go to the backside back and Ability block Connor. So people really don't never. They don't never say that. But the athletic part came later on. I had to block power, counter cuz aot was getting the ball. You know what I'm saying?
Pat McAfee
So you could say you cut your teeth. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You earned the passes through blocking. Nobody ever says that about. They always talking to catches. 160. I know. This guy's a threat through the sky. 11,841 yards. Holy. They don't talk about it. You have to be on the block, too. Yeah, yeah. That's how you get the ball. Last question here, as guy looks still jacked and obviously always going to be athletic. Go ahead, con man. Oh, no, Connor's microphone's off. Oh, no. Oh, no. Connor's microphone is. There it is.
Jared Allen
Obviously, Antonio, you know, you play basketball. Can't say that's part of it. I don't think any of us knew how much success you guys went to. An elite eight, you know, and you're the star of that team. That's absurd. Now that you are, you know, hall of Famer in the NFL. Is there. Congratulations, Incredible. Is there a shot maybe you now turn back to basketball? Join like ice cubes, big three, Possibly get back into hooping. Are you still hooping or no?
Antonio Gates
Yeah, no, I'm not hooping, man.
Pat McAfee
I.
Antonio Gates
Football is the wear and tear on your body. So I can't really go out and play as much now, but I do watch my kids play. I enjoy watching them play. But I do not pick up the basketball. Haven't picked it up probably in about six years, so.
Pat McAfee
Six years.
Antonio Gates
Six years. It's like six years. I haven't.
Pat McAfee
We don't even get like.
Antonio Gates
Yeah, I mean, I still got a four. I mean, I was a score.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I'm laughing.
Antonio Gates
You know what I'm saying?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Antonio Gates
You can't shoot. I can see.
Pat McAfee
You know what I mean?
Antonio Gates
You got to have the ball.
Pat McAfee
So you gotta. You gotta have a flick of the wrist. It's your hall of Fame weekend, okay? That's your hall of Fame weekend. You haven't tried to ball in six years. Six years. I'd light your ass up right now.
Ty Schmidt
You know what I'm saying?
Pat McAfee
I think. I think the game was so lucky that you played it. I think the league was lucky to have you. I think the Chargers organization as a whole was lucky to have you represent them. And I guess last question would be, what are your thoughts on where the Chargers are headed right now? We love Harbaugh. Like, we Love Jim Harbaugh. We love Justin Herbert. We love national champion in Michigan, Jim Harbaugh, now the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. The ownership spent $300 million on a practice facility in 2024, 2025. Like that never happens anymore. The same Hispanos feels like they are trying to move the chips in tough division out there. We all understand that. What are your thoughts on the state of the Chargers and what it could be out there in Los Angeles?
Antonio Gates
Well, I would say, you know, the more they be together, the more continuity that he would build. Last year was his first year as a head coach and we were super excited and to see the situation with what I thought was going to be a challenge to change the style of what the west coast ball is normally like coming from the Midwest, the running style.
Pat McAfee
Oh, got it.
Antonio Gates
To see that. Because, you know, west coast, they like to throw the football. So to see that, you know, you start building the foundation from the offensive line and start building out and to see that happening and us winning games is refreshing to say the least. So I'm super excited about what they're going to do. After a year under hardball and then the guys being together, you know, collectively for a whole year.
Pat McAfee
Who wins tonight in my. I mean, I got my shirt on, man. You know, I got my shirt. You ain't got to ask me no questions. We got some real degenerates around here that are going to gamble on tonight's game. Do you have any inside information on the Los Angeles Chargers tonight?
Antonio Gates
Yeah, they gonna play.
Pat McAfee
Okay, they playing tonight. Hall of Famer, all time leading touchdown scorer at the tight end position in the history of the NFL Legend, ladies and gentlemen, busted ass jumper Havid. Appreciate you. Appreciate it, man. Appreciate it, bro.
Antonio Gates
It's good seeing you, man.
Pat McAfee
Yes, sir. Appreciate you, Antonio. What a legend. I'm not a left. What was that guy's doing?
Jared Allen
Just talking junk.
Pat McAfee
I had no idea. You know, he was a lefty.
Ty Schmidt
They were showing his clips right there. I saw he got nice little jumper.
Pat McAfee
Dude at Kent State visit. Great time, by the way. Great time. Oh, yeah, great time at that. We had a good time. They had a mural of him down the whole hallway and every one of them was like nasty highlight pictures.
Darius Butler
Crazy.
Pat McAfee
Look at him. Ah. Ah.
Darius Butler
Get off me.
Pat McAfee
And now he's a Hall of Famer here in Canton, Ohio. I'll tell you what, the weather has certainly been a factor. Lost a couple speakers, we lost the microphone. But these football people have been so standing in a parking lot. Oh, yeah, I Can't hear things at times. I don't think they can either. But what an honor it is to kick off football here in Canton, Ohio. I also appreciate the truck drivers that roll by and hit the old hook because they might be watching while they're driving. We'd like to tell you, keep your eyes on the road. It's raining out here. But also Bogey up there on the right. I think we saw him on the way in. Keep your eyes peeled. Ladies and gentlemen, the hall of Fame train continues. Antonio Gates is first, ladies and gentlemen. Joining us now, a man who had 54 interceptions in his career, 787 tackles, five. Four fumbles, nine TDs. Three time All Pro, six time Pro Bowler. Eagles legend Eric Ellerson gaps up a john with a beer right there. How are you doing, man? Thank you for coming. Hell, yes.
Antonio Gates
Thank you.
Darius Butler
Legend. Congratulations.
Pat McAfee
Congratulations, man. Hey, yeah, congrats. Hall of Famer, dude.
Eric Allen
I appreciate you, man. Appreciate you.
Pat McAfee
Come on. Yeah, congratulations to you. We were in. In the hotel last night down there in the. The lobby, restaurant area, right? And we saw you hanging out over there. We saw everybody kind of rolling through there. How has it been to just be at the position of the same exact place as all the legends that have basically created this league? Was last night a cool moment? Whenever you get told, obviously you're going into hall of Fame, very emotional. Has it all settled in, especially after now you've got here to Canton and seen the other Gold Jackets, you know what?
Eric Allen
It really has. I think the knock on the door with Randall McDaniel kind of solidified it. Me and Randall went on a recruiting trip to college together when we were 15 or 16 years old. So obviously, Randall, one of the best guards in the history of the National Football League, so they did a pretty good job hiding it from me. But when I opened that door and saw Randall there with that gold jacket, man, it just kind of like cemented everything, you know, all the hard work, the sacrifice. And that's what this is all about, you know, that. That journey there.
Pat McAfee
It's nice to be acknowledged, too, you know?
Eric Allen
Yeah, for sure.
Pat McAfee
And I think finally getting the acknowledgment. Was there a sense of fulfillment? Was there a sense of I knew all along or what is like, kind of the mindset of it? No, not gratitude, not.
Eric Allen
Not for me. I think validation for the family members and all those teammates, coaches and that support and coaches who all, you know, believed in me. I was given, like, a piece long ago that, you know, it was just about time Right. And I was never really tripping, worried about if I would get here. I knew it would be a time when I'd be here. It was just about validating all of those people in my corner.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Eric Allen
The coaches, the players, the fans, you know, who always had the stats and was talking about, yeah, you should be there with Daryl Green and Prime and those guys. So I'm just glad to be on the same team with all my brothers.
Pat McAfee
That's awesome. D1 has a question for you.
Darius Butler
So along the way, you mentioned the coaches, teammates, who was that coach that you said that you would say had the biggest impact on you, on your game? And what was that moment or the biggest thing that you figured out during the game? Because I know it's a lot of people watching players, fans, young kids who want to be where you are. So what was that thing that you learned that kind of took you a long way in your career?
Eric Allen
Well, let me tell you, man. Coach named Willie Shaw and David, he's David Shaw's dad who coached at Stanford, but Willie coached in this league a long time. And it was about preparation, kind of understanding that to be a great player, it was about playing from your neck up. You know, you can have all the speed and the height and all that stuff. But my deal was I'm going to be where the ball is at the end of the play. I can care less about what Jerry or Michael or, you know, what these great receivers are doing. The line of scrimmage, I'm going to be where the ball is going to be at the end of the play. And to be able to get to that point, you have to have great preparation and have a great understanding of what not just the quarterback is doing, but what the officer coordinator is doing. So in the off season, I would take whoever's offense is that one, and usually it was the west coast offense, I would take that offense in the off season and I would be Jerry Rice. I would run every, every route that Jerry Rice is going to run. Oh, I would take the Dallas Cowboys offense and I would run Michael Irvin's routes. I would be the Buffalo Bills, I would run Andre Reed's routes. I would be the Atlanta Falcons run Andre Rising route. So when I got to the game and it was important situation, hey, man.
Darius Butler
If it's going to be a quick.
Eric Allen
Slant, Jerry, you know you're going to run, I'm going to run it too. So I'm going to be in the right spot. So it didn't always work. But of course when you're going against someone like my. My buddy Sterling Sharp.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Congratulations.
Eric Allen
Yeah, Sterling's big time.
Darius Butler
He's a different.
Eric Allen
But he's a different dude, man. He's like a. He was a to before to big, strong, physical. And if you're getting pressed in front of Sterling, he's going to grab you and move you, put you in place.
Pat McAfee
So on that note, let's talk about how football used to be. I know the OGs always talk about it. I see you got some busted ass fingers. You know, always, always. There's jerseys obviously and helmets and everything. When you view today's game and today's DBs, I mean, we got guys running four twos, four threes out there and they're not allowed to grab as much. They got to be like very tricky with it. What do you think of the state of DB play right now and covering people? I love it.
Eric Allen
I love it. As as many of you know, I work with the Raiders. So, you know, I do post game, pregame interview players and my deal is I love talking to the receivers, devonte, Adams and those kind of guys to kind of get an idea of what the DBs now have to deal with. And man, not being able to get your hands on guys now, not able.
Pat McAfee
To dislocate your pinky on this guy. It's a whole different game.
Eric Allen
So, man. So for the corners who are balling today, man, they're really cerebral players now, right. They have all the athleticism and all the measurables that you have to have. But I love the fact these guys are cerebral. I have a lot of these young players come approach me and talk to me about the game and how they can can get better. So that's really what stands out now. These young guys having a great idea of kind of what's happening and what's going on.
Pat McAfee
AJ has a question for you. He also has some terrible figures. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
When, when you watch the game now, do you think the game, like the game is always evolving? It feels like for a little bit we had, hey, we're spreading out. They call it basketball on grass.
Pat McAfee
Whatever.
Ty Schmidt
I feel like now at least the game's getting more physical. We were at Steelers training camp. They were tackling to the ground. I saw what the Browns are tackling to the ground.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
I feel like we hear Ben Johnson makes comments about the Bears having their longest, toughest practice today is seeing who's going to survive. Like, do you think the game is coming back even to a more like.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
A safer but even more physical form than it has been maybe the last five, eight years.
Eric Allen
Without a doubt. And the big reason why is because the Birds. The Eagles. The Eagles are a physical football team, right? And they're the champs right now.
Pat McAfee
Right.
Eric Allen
So whatever that champ mentality is, that's what everyone else is going to try and copy. I imagine this year everyone's going to try and get a running back, right. And try and figure out a way that you can get to some third and short situations. But as you know, there's not going to be more. Three days, Right? We used to have three a days.
Pat McAfee
I missed the three days.
Eric Allen
Oh, my goodness.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, twos.
Eric Allen
We'd have two practices of full hitting, and then the third practice would be conditioning, right? So it was all.
Ty Schmidt
It was like six weeks long.
Darius Butler
Too bad.
Pat McAfee
I feel like. Who put that tweet out the other night? Somebody put a tweet out the other night. OG that was like. I went to training camp for six weeks. We had three practices. Everything was like, back in my day, uphill. Both ways. It has changed.
Eric Allen
Physical presence.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yes.
Eric Allen
And you have to protect your guys, your assets. You got to protect your assets. The one thing that has to continue to improve, though, is the tackling, right? That's the one thing. If you're going to be physical defensively, we have to figure out a way to really get the ball carrier on the ground without putting yourself in jeopardy. So I think that's the next phase defensively, is to make sure we're tackling properly so we can continue to play that physical game. But after those guys are finished, they don't have the head trauma and things like that.
Pat McAfee
Speaking of head trauma, you guys used to do some wild stuff, and now.
Eric Allen
Hold up, hold up. What you mean? You guys, you.
Pat McAfee
But now I will say we appreciate your era of football so much. None of this happens without you guys. And then obviously, the guys are before you. Football is beautiful. What you guys did. I think Antonio Gates was a great way to describe it. He talked about the tight end position, how everybody says, who's the greatest? Who's the greatest? He's like, we. I took the baton and carried it to the next generation. It feels like all of football is like that.
Eric Allen
Pat, let me tell you something, man. I. I was in the perfect sweet spot, right? So I played against Joe Montana and those 49er teams, 88 and 89, when they were rolling, right? They had Jerry, Mike, they had all tremendous players. I ended my career playing against Tom Brady. So I have a window of looking at all these great players. And then I'm able to sit on the sideline and watch Mahomes. So I. I just kind of take it all in. And it's changed from era to era. But the one thing that remains constant is it's really all about the team, right? There's no one individual that's going to be able to win by himself. It has to be a collective.
Pat McAfee
Adam Banteri was able to do it. Adam Terry was able to win all by himself.
Eric Allen
Listen, no, listen, now, I was in that game, right? I started my career against the Bears in the playoffs.
Darius Butler
Listen, listen.
Eric Allen
The Fog Bowl. I was in the fog bowl in 88 and then ended my career at the Tuck rule games, right?
Darius Butler
So, wow, what a run.
Eric Allen
And I'm not sure if you guys know they call a timeout before the play, before the sack, right? And Brady comes over to the officer coordinator, Charlie Weiss. I'm on the side, I'm on the Patriots sideline. And I hear Charlie tell him, hey, we're going to go three by one and throw the slant the backside. They don't see me. I run back to the huddle and I'm like, hey, man, listen, listen.
Pat McAfee
They're going three by one.
Eric Allen
They going to throw the slant backside. And I hope I'm on that slant side because I'm taking it to the house, right? And so we get the slant. My linebacker is William Thomas, great friend of mine. I tell him, willie T. Sit in the first window and you're gonna get a pick. If not, I'm gonna get one. So Woodson comes off the side, sacks him. I run to the sideline, tell everybody the story. And then there's that pause. Oh, no, that pause. And that referee, whoever his name is, he goes to the sideline and he's looking up and listening to this and that. I'm not sure what happens after that. Gets the call.
Pat McAfee
And now Raiders hands forever against the hurdle.
Eric Allen
That's right, they are.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's right, they are. Sure. And by the way, Adam Venator misses that kick. We. We don't have the conversation. That's right. But Adam Venetary does. What? Adam walks out in the middle of hell. He knocks that thing through. Just to make sure you understand, Diggs has the last question for you.
Boston Connor
All right, Eric, you started your career with Buddy Ryan. You ended your career with John Gruden.
Pat McAfee
Now.
Boston Connor
Now you get to see Pete Carroll almost every single day.
Eric Allen
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Do you like when the head coach has a big personality, is a little feisty?
Eric Allen
Yeah, I do, I do. I think that Bodes well, especially for our grand group of being the Raiders. This is our fifth head coach in five years, right? But Pete's the kind of guy who can get it done.
Pat McAfee
He has.
Eric Allen
He has receipts that he's been there to the big games. When you go to Kansas City and you're playing the Chiefs, you're playing the Charge, you're playing the Broncos, who have coaches who have been there and done that before consistently, you need to have a coach that has done the same thing. And I think him and Gino are going to bring a little more pepper to the. To the Raiders.
Pat McAfee
Speaking of pepper, how's the speech?
Eric Allen
It's good, man. It's good, man.
Ty Schmidt
Feel good about it?
Eric Allen
I do. I do feel good in the mirror.
Pat McAfee
We've done it in front of family. We've done it. Only to ourself. We've done it. How much. How much work?
Eric Allen
You know what? When I'm sleeping at night, boom, I go over it.
Antonio Gates
It's.
Eric Allen
It's in there. The only thing is guys on the teams are giving me calls late. You know, whoever they think is going to call late is going to get mentioned. But no.
Darius Butler
No.
Eric Allen
I keep looking at the Venmo. The Venmo's not getting bigger.
Pat McAfee
So you know what I'm saying?
Eric Allen
You're not getting mentioned. If the Venmo account has not changed.
Pat McAfee
We can't wait to watch you be celebrated all weekend. Congratulations. How about Canton, Ohio? These people.
Eric Allen
It's been awesome, man. It's been awesome.
Pat McAfee
There you go. See, look at that. Represent, baby. Yeah. This guy's been drinking John dailies all morning. Five dollar John Dailies right now. That is what I.
Darius Butler
There you go.
Pat McAfee
And then the Philadelphia Eagles. John over here. Was he chucking the cowboy guy right here? Yeah. And on that note, all right, E, A, G, L E, S E. Couple johns out here. The whole world's gonna celebrate you. Congrats on being a Hall of Famer. Thank you for coming by. Cheers, man. Ladies and gentlemen, hall of Famer Eric Allen. Congratulations, man. Fourteen years in the second airport. Crazy legend. That's a long time. His fingers. There's four.
Boston Connor
Congratulations.
Pat McAfee
He's got a 40%. His fingers.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, that arrow. I think the majority of those players.
Pat McAfee
They were fingering pads, right?
Darius Butler
I mean, we were trying to get just everything.
Pat McAfee
We were trying to get right into.
Darius Butler
Tackling somebody's jerseys are a lot looser, too.
Ty Schmidt
So I think the fingers getting jammed in jerseys, getting caught and ripped up, twisted.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Let's get a little breezier. The rain has not relented. I do appreciate everybody hanging out with us chugging these five dollar drinks. There's a bunch of them back here.
Boston Connor
That's a good price.
Pat McAfee
I think $5 is a good price. Cuz it's probably what like dollar worth of stuff. $50 in there. Yeah. They could charge something astronomical like a lot of people. $5 drinks. It feels like. Everybody, $5 beers, $5 John Dal, $5 this, $5 that. Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise, Jared Allen. Jared, can I go through your stats? Because you just blew right through. I was supposed to do the stats while you were walking up. Oh yeah, my bad. Ladies and gentlemen, a man who had 136 sacks, 32 forced fumbles, two tuds, and force one man to run out of the back of an end zone. That's tough, Dana. That's gonna be a long weekend for you, I think. Orlovsky, ladies and gentlemen, Jared Allen is here. Appreciate it.
Adam Schefter
Thanks for having me.
Pat McAfee
Congratulations.
Adam Schefter
Thank you so much.
Pat McAfee
Killing it. Well earned, well deserved. How's it feel to be here? We saw you last night looking very trim. We'll get into that here in a matter of moments. But how's it feel to be amongst the immortals basically here in the NFL? Good, good.
Adam Schefter
Just take it as it comes, man. I don't try to look farther than like my feet, you know what I mean? So. But it's, it's good. It's a great honor. It's one of those surreal things because you can't really do anything to earn it. And you get the award, you get the recognition so many years after you play.
Pat McAfee
You did a lot to earn it after you retire.
Adam Schefter
But when you're, but when you're playing, you're not thinking about that, right? You're trying to win Super Super Bowls. You're just trying to be the best guy you can be. You're trying to outdo yourself from the year before and this becomes a byproduct of it. So it's one of those surreal moments where you're kind of reliving the past and get recognized for it so many years later. So it, it's good. But the coolest part about it is being up with the legends.
Pat McAfee
Like, yes.
Adam Schefter
You know, sitting there talking with Randall McDaniel, you know, meeting, meeting guys that, you know, I used to watch the 100 toughest films for every high school game. 100 toughest NFL, 100 toughest men. And to actually get meet those guys, you know, you're seeing some of the guys that have passed meeting Their wives and their family. So that's cool. And listen. Just listen to guys talk. I was talking to Jan Steadyrud the other day, you know, fellow Norwegian.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
Adam Schefter
And so just, you know, Willie Lanier, hearing his story. And I haven't seen Willie for years and years and years since the Chiefs. So just. Just super cool, super fun experience.
Pat McAfee
I haven't heard. Jan Stener is there. Had to write that one down there. AJ Has a question for you. Jared.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Pat asked Eric Allen about a speech. What about your speech?
Jared Allen
Have you.
Ty Schmidt
Did you write it yourself?
Pat McAfee
You.
Darius Butler
You feel comfortable?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, did you actually write down. Are you gonna. Is it going off top of your head? Read it. What do you do?
Adam Schefter
So I started off top of my head, right? And then the hall is very controlling. They try to be. Sometimes they want you to check in. I refuse to check in. I refuse to be censored.
Pat McAfee
I'm not.
Adam Schefter
I'm not. You're not.
Ty Schmidt
They want you to send your outline.
Pat McAfee
What could this speech be? And I'm like, get what he said?
Adam Schefter
I will not send a speech until yesterday.
Pat McAfee
No.
Adam Schefter
So I wrote it myself. It was all up in my head. My wife was like, you might want to actually write it down. So as great thoughts popped in my head, I wrote them down, organized them. You know what? It's pretty awesome. Maybe.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. Send a lot of love to a lot of people. Yeah.
Adam Schefter
It's a typical. Let's be honest. There's 380 speeches that have been. I'm three number. 380. Right. So 380. 79 people have spoken before me. There's not gonna be a lot of original stuff coming out of my mouth.
Pat McAfee
Mouth. There could be how? Shout out to my high school coach. Believed in me. Yeah.
Adam Schefter
We're gonna hit the topics. We're gonna hit the topics. Throw a little humor in there.
Pat McAfee
Like wife love. You love everything so much.
Adam Schefter
I was like, this could either go 23 minutes with me rambling or two minutes to be like, thank you, everybody.
Pat McAfee
No, don't do two minutes. We need you right there in the middle.
Adam Schefter
I just ran it through the teleprompter. I'm 11 minutes with P.A. we're good.
Pat McAfee
Okay, good. They banked into clap. And the laugh break is that.
Adam Schefter
That's. That's up to. Look, that's up to the audience.
Pat McAfee
Oh, they'll deliver.
Adam Schefter
I got different jokes that I hope. That I hope don't fall flat.
Pat McAfee
Cars on the highway will also be cheering for you as you go. Deebot has a question for You, Jared?
Darius Butler
Yeah. When Antonio was up here, he talked about him, you know, watching Rob Woodson and having a route, and he made a catch, and that was kind of one of his moments. Like, okay, if I get open against Rod Woodson, I can get open again against anybody. You had a long, elite career, but was it a play or a game or maybe a tackle? You went up against a quarterback you sacked that he was like, okay, I've kind of arrived. Even though you obviously.
Adam Schefter
Yeah, that's actually part of Good. I don't want to give the story away because it's in my speech.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Adam Schefter
But early in my career, let's put it this way, I took some. I took some lumps in the practice field, Right. And you learn very fast. You know, I had the. I had the displeasure and pleasure of practice against Willie Ro every day, and I think he's the greatest tackle to ever play the game. And some people agree, some people don't. That's my opinion. But I knew if I could learn to beat him, I could beat anybody. And so, you know, I think probably one of the first. The first times I figured, you know, we're going to be good, was just a learning through Willie and knowing what I was practicing up against. But, yeah, I mean, I got my first sack.
Pat McAfee
I think it was like week three.
Adam Schefter
Or four, something like that, against. Against the Texans. And, I mean, just obliterated the tackle. He disappeared. He disappeared. And I was like, okay, we can do this.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. Yeah, yeah, yeah. How many of these guys are in the league? Did you do this immediately? No. So that.
Adam Schefter
So when I was a rookie and my first couple years, the vets, you know, vets tell you what to do. You got to do it. So the vets would make stuff up for me to do on Saturday.
Pat McAfee
Jack Sawyer was just carrying TJ Watts helmet off the field yesterday.
Adam Schefter
Yeah. So, like, I. One game, they'd make me do spirit fingers. No joke. I got a $5,000 fine. My very first sack. It was a preseason, so it didn't count against Eli. I did the old, like, slap the leg.
Pat McAfee
The.
Adam Schefter
You know, like, flex the leg out, you know, like bodybuilders do. They said it was sexually suggestive.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we don't know. Especially with your sexual look.
Adam Schefter
So then I had. Then I had to do the lawnmower.
Pat McAfee
One week.
Adam Schefter
They would make me do, like, high kicks. So finally it was.
Pat McAfee
It was.
Adam Schefter
They just made me do all sorts of dumb stuff.
Pat McAfee
The.
Adam Schefter
Neil Smith. Neil Smith got put in the ring of honor, and I did his Celebration. Hit a home runs, had a couple sacks against good old Chargers. I also loved Philip Rivers. It was like he held the ball.
Pat McAfee
A long time and was not the greatest mobile quarterback of all time. Boy, that got. Could play ball.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, fantastic.
Jared Allen
And talk.
Adam Schefter
Oh, I loved it. That's what I love about it. But I got a couple sacks and Neil was like, hey, man, I appreciate you doing my celebration. You need to do something. That's.
Pat McAfee
That.
Adam Schefter
That's, you know, that's you. And I grew up on a horse ranch, renting, cutting horses. And I used to grow up calf roping. And so we were talking about. I was like, man, when you calf rope, right, you throw the calf down, you tie up three legs, put your hands in the air to stop the clock. So we started doing that on quarterbacks about your, I think my second year, and it stuck.
Pat McAfee
Legendary. The best. Also, you're like the only cowboy doing light ranching. You ride a damn horse into the retirement thing. It's like, are you still riding horses? Are we still.
Adam Schefter
Oh, absolutely.
Pat McAfee
Are we still, like, ranching a little bit?
Adam Schefter
Oh, yeah, I'm still roping. All that fun stuff. My hands are just healing up. I got tore up at a jackpot.
Pat McAfee
A jackpot? What is a jackpot? It's a rodeo roping.
Adam Schefter
Yeah, it's.
Pat McAfee
It's just.
Adam Schefter
It's just a roping competition.
Pat McAfee
So are you in it? Yeah. Are you by far the largest human being that's on top of these horses that are doing these things? Yes. Now, on that note, you're much smaller than you were.
Adam Schefter
Correct.
Pat McAfee
Are you? I don't want to give away the story, but as soon as we saw you, we thought you were doing, like, the Iron man cycling race that post NFL career. That's not the case.
Darius Butler
No.
Pat McAfee
So actually something very scary.
Adam Schefter
So at first I realized muscle weighs more than fat. So I quit lifting weights. All right, Just get rid of the muscle.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's.
Adam Schefter
That's health tip number one, people. Get rid of the muscle.
Pat McAfee
I'm on a lot of science trying to build. Hold on right now, but okay, I'll listen.
Adam Schefter
But no. So then I was losing weight rapidly, Right. I couldn't figure out, like, I randomly dropped 10 pounds. I couldn't gain it back, but randomly dropped him pounds. So was doing all these tests, trying to figure out, you know, what I had make sure I wasn't dying. And then my doctor found out, doing some absorption tests, that I had Alpha Gal, which I got bit by a Lone Star tick when I was out in the woods one Time. And it makes me allergic to the sugars in mammal meat. Any mammal meat.
Pat McAfee
Wow.
Adam Schefter
And so I was having some digestive issues and losing weight, so now I'm on the fins and feathers diet for a little bit. So I get it out. It's called fins and feathers. And.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Adam Schefter
Just trying to get weight back on and now I got to start looking lifting weights again.
Pat McAfee
How long has this been happening?
Adam Schefter
I don't know. I just found out, but it's been happening probably anywhere. Five or six years. I just found out this year.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. How long is this forever gonna last?
Adam Schefter
No, some people is forever.
Pat McAfee
I'm.
Adam Schefter
Luckily I have it light, so I might be able to get it out of my system. Some people have to carry EpiPen. Some people can't even like touch a grease or use hand soaps that have beef gelatin.
Pat McAfee
Holy hell. That's crazy. Well, I'm happy you figured out what it was. Yeah. Because it did look like you had a 32 inch waist when you walked in.
Adam Schefter
Yeah, 34, but yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's getting. It's getting there. It's getting there. Nice. You could be a tailor. Yeah. We were out, I was like, that Dude's got a 32 inch waist. I think what sucks is when you.
Adam Schefter
Get smaller here, your head doesn't change. So my head looks bigger. It's like, oh, this is not a good.
Pat McAfee
The whole thing. Yeah, but you look healthy even though you weren't at all. I feel good outside looking in. You looked very good. And also the hair still looks phenomenal. Always.
Antonio Gates
Yeah.
Adam Schefter
You know what? And Connor, I appreciate you letting it flow tonight, bro.
Pat McAfee
Thank you. Thank you.
Jared Allen
Actually, funny enough before the show, I said, Jared Allen.
Pat McAfee
And then.
Jared Allen
And then, you know, when I saw you, I said, you know, this is Jared Allen's weekend. You know, this is something that's cool.
Pat McAfee
It's. I'm just an incredible honor last night for those that don't know which is everybody that's listening, Jared Allen walked over to us in the lobby restaurant of the hall of fame thing. Walks over to us. We have like a 35 second encounter. Great to see you. Holy hell, you look good. Well, I'm actually not good. Does the Lone Star thing, the whole Alpha Gall. And then he looks at the table, he sees Conor and he goes, you're. You got a man bun. And then he looks the rest of the table, he goes, you guys are letting them do this? It was within 45 seconds. Just murders Connor immediately. And Connor goes, okay. Longer than yours killed me. Can't tell it's in a bun, bro.
Adam Schefter
My daughters were bunny, so that's cool. But I'm just saying, with a man like that, dude, and it's a windy day, that thing just got to be.
Pat McAfee
I know, I know.
Jared Allen
Windy and wet.
AJ Hawk
We were actually.
Jared Allen
I was going to ask you a completely different question, but what should I do with my hair, man? Like, I don't know what to do with.
Adam Schefter
Every time you're in a public swimming pool, you should just duck your head under and just come out and just like that should be mandatory.
Pat McAfee
Swimming pools. I'm not swimming in this. What are we talking about? I. I like that idea with the.
Jared Allen
Pool, but that doesn't change my hair.
Pat McAfee
I'm talking about changing the hair. We got. Hey, we got a minute and a half before you. Burying Connor was wonderful. Tony has a question for you. Last one.
Jared Allen
Minute and a half, dude.
Boston Connor
Do you get a commission or percentage with Miles and TJ get paid 40 million a year?
Pat McAfee
Like.
Boston Connor
Like the DNS and the ED rushers before them.
Pat McAfee
Do you guys get.
Boston Connor
Do you guys get a commission from.
Pat McAfee
Unfortunately.
Adam Schefter
And you know what? Every generation says the same thing. Oh, man, if I was playing today, I would have been super paid. Like imagine Reggie White was playing today. They would have to pay him a billion dollars. He'd be the first billion dollar contract ever. No, I just like seeing the success, man. I like seeing guys that are still playing all four downs or all three downs, right? Like Miles Garon up here, he's a beast, right? Tj, he. He's making plays just other than the pass rush, you know, And. And that was what, you know, for. You know, when you get high sack numbers, a lot of people start focusing on that, right? You know, I came from it like. Like I heard it. Antonio talk about Marty Ball and he had. I mean, I played against Antonio, right? Which tight ends are still only half people? Just so we're all killed. Half people in the D line. We don't consider them full people.
Machine Gun Kelly
They're only half.
Adam Schefter
But anyways that they. Yeah, so I like. I like seeing those guys carrying the torch and still, you know, setting that pace of being a football player, not just a pass rush.
Pat McAfee
Well, Jared, we appreciate you being a football player. A great human, a hilarious one. And now, ladies and gentlemen, officially a hall of Famer. Enjoy the hell out of your weekend. Ladies and gentlemen, Jared Allen. Appreciate you. Thank you so much. Man. He's gonna put some more weight on.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I gotta go eat.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it needs to eat something. Disappearing 34 inch waist is insane. But he's a legend. Football is kicking off this evening as the Chargers and the Lions will play in the hall of Fame game and we will celebrate the fact that football is all the way back. It is a perfect day here in Canton, Ohio as it's rainy, it's windy, and there's a lot of Ohio folks standing in a parking lot getting drenched celebrating football in its entirety. The first hour we had a chance to chit chat with three out of the four dudes that are going into the hall of Fame this year. We did put a request in for all four dudes that are going into the hall of Fame this year. I don't know if it was scheduled, timing or anything else. I just want to let that that was not on us. Anybody's gonna talk about it. That was on the other side. Correct and also kind of understandable. For whatever reason, it's not just me. The talk is here at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt. 1/2 of the hammer died. Cowboys AP Tony's here. College football national champion for the OH State Buckeyes Super bowl champion. Ladies and gentlemen, A.J. hawk is here. Nine year NFL event. I don't want to step on that speech. A.J. hawk is getting his name chanted by Bruce Brown, who's standing out in the rain with everybody because he did not want to be in the truck with the entire group of dipshits is his exact word. I don't think he's talking about you, foxy, back there in the truck, but you boys are doing a great job. We appreciate you.
Antonio Gates
Yes, sir.
Pat McAfee
Nine year NFL vet, absolute genius, ladies and gentlemen. Dare shape others. We appreciate you debut. In about 17 minutes or so, I believe we'll be breaking some news with a another incredible honor of having a high school commitment take place on our show. We don't know how this has become a thing for us, but we want to let everybody know we're pumped about it. Pretty cool. The guy that's going to be joining us today is 6 foot 3, 260 pounds. Yep. Going into a senior year from Alabama High school and Anthony Tank Jones. And they're gonna say Tank Jones. Tank Jones. Tank Jones. Tank Jones. This guy's a monster.
Jared Allen
Yeah, huge.
Pat McAfee
And he's making his commitment here in about 17 minutes. I believe with the way he is built in, the mindset that he has and how everybody talks about him, there's a, a chance that he ends up in this damn hall of Fame. There's also a lot of players right now that we have an eye on around the NFL that could be destined for Canton, Ohio in their time. Let's talk about a rookie who is attempting to do something that has never been done before. Let's go down to Jacksonville, Florida, more specifically, Duvall County. New coach, new gm. This is what they had to say the day after the draft when they traded a lot of assets to get up to number two to make their pick out of Colorado.
Darius Butler
You know, as we sit here, Travis Hunter is a Jacksonville Jaguar. And really what comes to mind for me, right, Thinking about the sport of football and really the power of the game itself, right?
Pat McAfee
Its capacity to ignite belief. Right? Belief in ourselves, belief in others. Right? Belief in achieving what many may deem impossible. Travis Hunter, he embodies belief, right? He's a rare person, he's a rare player, but he's also a reminder that the boundaries of the game of football.
Darius Butler
Were built to be challenged.
Pat McAfee
And so the decision to select him.
Darius Butler
Was actually a statement. A statement for how we plan to move who we are. And we want him to Be nothing more than him.
Pat McAfee
Because when he is, he elevates the.
Darius Butler
Space around him from the football field to the city to the game of football itself. Travis Hunter is who we've been hunting up. Couldn't be more jacked to be sitting.
Pat McAfee
Right here beside him and introduce you all to the man of the hour. That is how Travis Hunter was introduced to the NFL media and to the entire Jacksonville Jaguars fan base. From their brand new GM who looks 12 but has a great football mind is what everybody has told us in Gladstone. Old stoner. Then let's go to training camp where Travis Hunter was chit chatting with Pete Prisco of cbs. Bingo. Guy's been around a long time. We appreciate his commitment to football. This was his question for Travis. As we all said to ourselves, there's no way this guy's gonna be able to do something that's never been done before. Right. Here's Pete Priscoe. How many plays do you think you can play? You think you can play them all?
Darius Butler
Yeah, I definitely think I could play them all. If I didn't think I could play them all, I wouldn't be trying to do it.
Pat McAfee
But what makes you able to do that? There's nobody's ever done that. What makes you capable of doing that?
Darius Butler
Just my mental.
Antonio Gates
You gotta have the right mindset going into it.
Pat McAfee
You gotta have the right knowledge.
Darius Butler
You gotta understand what you're doing when.
Antonio Gates
You'Re going out there.
Darius Butler
You gotta understand how to take care.
Antonio Gates
Of your body too.
Pat McAfee
So when he says those things debut. Yeah, obviously he is going to be a guy who thinks he can do it all because he's already done it all at a very high level. He is a guy who's drafted number two overall to do it all. He is a guy who is special. He's the highest rated Madden player in the history of rookies in the NFL at 84, just one point below the highest rated punter in the game. And A.J. cole is a three time Pro Bowler at 85. Don't love that. But with Travis Hunter, what are your thoughts early at a camp from what we've seen and how do you think this works out? What does success look like?
Darius Butler
I mean I played both ways my senior year of college we had like a 15 play script for certain games and I thought just like him, I could play full time on both sides. Then you realize, nah, probably not. You can't be effective on both sides full time and people have said it's impossible. The boundaries will be pushed. I'm excited to see him attempt it the mindset though when you get to the NFL. We heard Eric Allen talk about it his offseason. He was running routes, he was learning the offense. Like those are the details of the levels that these pros go to. So for him to be able to compete and excel on this level on both sides of the ball would be extremely difficult. But we saw he's a unicorn. We saw him do things we've never seen do on a big time college level. So can he do it on the pro level? We shall see. I'm excited to watch. He has the skill set but up here is going to be between the ears. Can he figure it out? Can he game plan, can he take care of his body? Can he do all those things for an 18 game regular season?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Or 18 week regular season?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. 17 games. 18 weeks nonetheless. And you start stacking years. Now you got preseason offseason playoff games. Hopefully they're thinking down there in Jacksonville. Remember they were in the playoffs. That's right. Just a couple years ago. Brand new head coach, brand new gm. Feels like a new energy. They got stadium to deal with over the next couple years. I don't think anybody's expecting them to win a Super bowl this year. But if you were to say what is the success of successful career look like for Travis Hunter? Obviously if he comes premier at one of those positions, that's a successful career no matter what. Even if it's number two overall pick. Number one overall pick, whatever it is. But if he's able to play both ways for an extended period of time in the NFL, I think everybody will be mind blown by it. What does success look like, AJ how long do you think man success for him?
Ty Schmidt
Obviously if he's a premier player at the, at a, as a corner or a receiver. But I think if he doesn't have to play every single play they can talk about. Can you play every player? Yeah, I could.
Pat McAfee
Like technically I could.
Ty Schmidt
I. I think you can find packages here and there for him. I don't know what like, what is he? Does he identify more as a receiver, as a db? Do we know?
Pat McAfee
Well, I don't like that's like Shohei who said he was a hitter who became a pitcher or whatever in his entirety. That's two different things that everybody said you can't do, you can't do, you can't do. He is trying to defy the odds there. We said he was also a unicorn. Baseball people said he was a unicorn. And then in his fourth or fifth start, whatever it was, he Had a bad outing. Now everybody's calling for, stop wasting your time. You need to go hit. Well, that happened with Travis. Yes. If he gets bombed on.
Darius Butler
Yes.
Pat McAfee
And he has like two touchdowns on the other side, people are going to be like, why are we wasting any time on the defensive side? And on the flip side, if he is a glove, if it is Revis island on defensive side and he's, you know, the Jacksonville Jaguars on the offensive side, he's scoring like maybe has eight touchdowns on a year, nine touchdowns on a year, which would be very good.
AJ Hawk
Yes.
Pat McAfee
It's like, do we want to sacrifice glove on defense for the other. Those conversations are going to last for his entire career. Just like it has with Shohei.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, for sure. And I think with him, like the expectation shouldn't be like, oh, because he can play both ways. Like, this guy should be a top five receiver and a top five cornerback. Like you look at Shohei, he's either the best hitter or the second best hitter, depending on, you know, how you feel about it in the MLB. And he's probably like a top 25 pitcher. But he's good enough to go out there and compete on the mound as well. Obviously you just got hurt, which kind of, you know, throws things into array a little bit. But for Travis Hunter, if he is a top 10 guy at either receiver or cornerback and he's a top half guy at the other, is that good enough to dictate like, hey, this guy needs to continue to play both ways or do you just say, I genuinely.
Pat McAfee
Don'T know how to handle it? Especially after that.
Ty Schmidt
They need him the most too, for the team needs though.
Darius Butler
Do they need a corner more?
Ty Schmidt
The need receiver more? What do you need?
Pat McAfee
Like there's more drum. Like we are a supporter. We would like him to play both sides. And we talked about this earlier in the basement of the hall of Fame.
Ty Schmidt
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. We're sweating in the hall of Fame. It's a banger. We're in there in the basement listening to that. I will have, you know, also listening to MGK here and with some breaking news actually about one of his songs. I believe about to call she's. But we were chit chatting there. How long does he have to play both sides to be a Hall of Famer? Just like considered a Hall of Famer because we're in here. It's like if he was able to play what, a contract? Two contracts? Yep. That's what, six, seven, eight years?
Darius Butler
If he was able to play eight.
Pat McAfee
Years on both sides, guaranteed hall of fame. I mean not even question if he was to play both sides five years and then transition or four years and transition into one of them. I think still hall of Fame resume type stuff. Anything he does is going to be unique. It's going to be mold breaker if you. But how long does this able to last? What can the human body do? Even if it's one of the most physically fit bodies that we've ever seen in Travis Hunter.
Jared Allen
Yeah, that's right. On the full offense and defense is going to be, you know, for an extended period of time. Like I know it's Sweden training camp and you know when he's doing offensive drills in the morning during special teams he's doing defensive drills. He's getting the most reps out of anyone basically ever. I think we just go back to what we said originally. Like I think the idea of him having a package on one side of the field is still more likely than him playing.
Ty Schmidt
Which side is he Major. He's going to play full time at one position.
Pat McAfee
We just got this smacked at our heads.
Ty Schmidt
I didn't know they write notes on.
Pat McAfee
Somebody in the crowd. Michigan sucks here on one side. Now what is Michigan's record against Ohio State over the last couple years?
Jared Allen
It's undefeated against Ohio State.
Pat McAfee
This guy said also need some beer money if you'd like to hit me up. That'd be great.
Darius Butler
Smart.
Pat McAfee
Classic Ohio here. One side we got Michigan sucks, the other says hey, don't be scared to send me a little beer money. Love that. Love what you're doing, buddy. Good luck. I hope you get a beer too. Five bucks if you want to send. Yeah, everything. Here's five bucks, all you can eat. The Travis Hunter story is going to be one that is going to be talked about forever if it doesn't work out okay at either position. Not saying it's going to. Don't want that. I was kick kicker punter coming out. Yeah. Thought that I was going to be able to play both. Said I think I could. Was in the Senior bowl as a kicker, was drafted as a punter. Thought I could maybe at one point figure out how to do both. There was one guy that tried it in the past, he was at Atlanta. They had him kick field goals, they had him punt and he missed like six straight field goals or something after like a great four week start or five week start. Then he missed a bunch and they're like we're never doing this again because your leg cannot take it. You need to be a master at one thing. So if he does this obviously historic for all positions, all sports, everything like that. But there's a chance that neither. What if. What if one's eating away from the other.
Jared Allen
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
And they both kind of attack each other like so many different options on how this story can go. We believe in Travis Hunter the person. Yes. But the NFL is tough dude.
Darius Butler
And it's. It's been guys who had the ability to play both ways. Charles Woodson aed to leave. You're one of your college teammates. Chris Campbell, a guy I looked up to. These guys had skill set to be a full time wide receiver or db. But it's what you get to either his college, which happens to most guys you go to a big time D1 school but definitely to the NFL. Deion Sanders, he's the guy that can remember most touching the ball on both sides. But Champ Bailey, another one. But like it'll be incredible if he does it. He has already pushed brownies and broke boundaries so he. I. I'm not going to doubt him.
Boston Connor
You know, I know he, I know he's going to be successful because the Cleveland Browns passed on him and if the Cleveland Browns passed on you would.
Pat McAfee
Trade away that pick.
Boston Connor
This guy is going to be an automatic hall of Famer.
Pat McAfee
Great point. I think Cleveland's like 45, 50 minutes from here.
Boston Connor
There's a lot of scumbag Ohio inside right there.
Pat McAfee
Not him. There's a Cowboys fan was so much.
Boston Connor
Better in this place. The hall of Fame should have been in Latrobe. They made a huge mistake here.
Pat McAfee
Definitely would have been pissing rain.
Darius Butler
This is awesome.
Pat McAfee
Tony, think about that. Is they can't hear you because the Ohio weather is beating the out of these speakers. Yeah. Because of how tough. They heard enough which is why it's a Pro Football hall of Fame. Travis Hunter's story though special. We all need to treat it that way and I know some people that are probably sick of hearing about it or whatever because there was a lot of attention to that Colorado team. What he's doing is a very big deal in the history of sport and we need to talk about it.
Jared Allen
Do you think at all about those guys debut? Just mentioned the places they went to school were all top five in the country and he went to Colorado and they're playing Colorado State. Like does that actually come into a.
AJ Hawk
Colorado State's good program?
Jared Allen
Colorado State's great program. Yep. We know for sure. Trey McBride. Love that guy.
AJ Hawk
Bradley Van Hel.
Jared Allen
But, but truly like Gamble like quarterback Woodson. They're playing against the Top talent in the country every week. And then you're thinking about Travis Hunter and they go to Nebraska, who wins seven games and they lose 30 to nothing. So it's, it's just one of those rules.
Pat McAfee
Great. Absolutely.
Darius Butler
And if you look at Travis as a player like he was a, like a five star coming out of high to any program and then he follows Coach Brian, go Jack State and go to Colorado, but got drafted number two for a reason. Like if you look at his skill set, him running, him breaking, his awareness, his ball skills, all of those are on a elite like tier one level. I would say all time as far as a prospect goes. So I don't, I don't have any. You saying like, do you have like. My thing is level of comp.
Jared Allen
Yeah. Well, my thing is like Dion let him play both ways, but all those other top schools that he was getting recruited by as the top recruit, they were only going to let him play one.
Pat McAfee
One. Right.
Jared Allen
Like it wasn't like a, hey, you can. The reason he wanted to go play for Dion is because Dion was the only one that was like, yeah, you can play both.
Pat McAfee
Dion also put a plan together for him. Understood. I think Dion. There's only a couple people that can have those conversations too.
AJ Hawk
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
Those two are Coach BR's one of them. And once again, we can't say this enough. Coach Braun, Hell yeah, dude. Hell yeah. Coach Brown, hall of Famer, obviously this is home. And yeah, you talk about a unicorn.
Jared Allen
Major league and he didn't play every snap.
Pat McAfee
That for everything that is said about Coach Prime, I would like it to be known that the way he coaches, he's a hard ass. Yep. He's attention to detail, committed. And then also like a lot of people say he's flashy and yada yada, yada, the dude just went through cancer and nobody had a clue about it. Yes. Like, you know what, kids, you're talking about a dog through and through. And Coach Brian, we love you, man. We're happy you're good.
AJ Hawk
We are very happy that you loves his players too. I mean that kid who just had to, you know, medically retire and he honored his scholarship and he'll keep him through like so people can say what they want. But the players on his team obviously love him and do would run through a wall for him.
Pat McAfee
And it's a perfect place for Travis Hunter.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yes.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And if, if the Travis Hunter story goes how we all hope and think it's going to go, that is a huge decision that he made coming out of high school. Now, speaking of decisions coming out of high school, ladies and gentlemen, is our honor to be a part of yet another commitment for a high schooler that is 6 foot 3, 260 pounds. Wow. Head on his shoulders, pure. These younger guys who have been dealing with this business stuff and a little bit more attention feels like at our. Much more mature than we would have been back in the day. We're standing at the hall of fame here. Obviously there's a chance that this guy is in here someday. A lot of work to do, including a great college career. Where will it be? We shall find out. Ladies and gentlemen, from St. Paul's Episcopal in Alabama, a man who's a five star edge rusher and an absolute beast with a great nickname. Please make some noise for Anthony. Tank Jones. Big Tank. How you doing? Okay. I like that. We got a microphone. Where are we right now? Let's zoom in. Let's do his shot full there. Okay. Who all do you have with you right now, Tank? Just so we can get the names with faces here.
Darius Butler
This one. This is my dad, Anthony Jones, senior.
Pat McAfee
What up, man?
Machine Gun Kelly
My little brother, Tristan Jones.
Pat McAfee
What up, dude? Good to see you, buddy.
Darius Butler
This is my mom, Sunita White.
Pat McAfee
Hey, mama, good to see you. Where are you right now, Tank? Sir. Where are you right now, Tank?
Darius Butler
I'm in my school theater.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so you're in the theater. Is there people there? Are you guys just taking up the stage with nobody in the crowd?
Darius Butler
I got people.
Pat McAfee
That would have been a big time move if you would have done that, Tank, to please tell everybody in there that we're appreciative of the time today and we're honored for this opportunity for one of their finest in the history to tell us where he's headed. Tank, I assume this whole recruiting process has been pretty awesome, but also maybe a little bit heavy. How has it gone for you and your family and how much work has it gone into making this decision today? It's been a long journey.
Darius Butler
I can say I feel like I've been blowing up. I've just been taking it day by day, staying humble and just keeping my head grinding and stuff like that. And I've just been thankful for it.
Pat McAfee
Okay, well, it is our honor to be a part of this. We have your final three that has been basically all over the Internet. Ohio State is not a part of the final three. We're live in a parking lot right now in Ohio. Tank had to say that. Alabama, Oregon, Texas A and M. Obviously he has scholarship offers from everybody, including West Virginia, which don't love this, but nonetheless. Tank Jones, will you please let the world know where you will be continuing your football career?
Darius Butler
Well, first off, I like to thank the Lord. Without him, none of this would be happening. And I want to thank my family, all the sacrifices they done made, the long nights, staring up long flights, all that. And I like to thank the community also, and my coaches and the school. Just the dedication they showed to me and the love they've shown back to me. I've just been very grateful for it. For the next three to four years, I'll be continuing my academic and athletic career at.
Pat McAfee
Wait a minute, wait a minute. Are we contemplating right now the University of Oregon? Okay. Congratulations to you. Congratulations to Oregon. I know your school there is in the state of Alabama. How hard of a decision was it to go to Oregon and why did you end up choosing coach Dan Lanning in the Oregon Ducks?
Darius Butler
Relationships I have with them just the.
Pat McAfee
Way I know they can develop me.
Darius Butler
The history of Coach Landon and Coach Luke, boy, like the ages they can coach and I just know they can get me to the next level.
Pat McAfee
All right, well, congratulations to you, your family, your entire school there. Thank you for letting us be a part of this. And hey, congratulations, man. Hopefully someday you're here from us and all of you, congrats. Ladies and gentlemen, Anthony Tank Jones. I thought doing that, the hall of Fame could be cool. Yeah, for sure. Completely forgot about Ohio State.
AJ Hawk
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Aiden. Well, we didn't know. We didn't know exactly where he was gonna go. We had three different graphics for committing to or whatever. The fact he's going to Oregon is obviously a great thing for these people here because Ohio State, Oregon about to become. Oh, yeah, a great rivalry for years and years. Oregon's far, but it is beautiful. Yep. Beautiful campus, beautiful views. And obviously with Uncle Phil, the facility, the amount of money that they're pouring into ball and sports as a whole. They already have a nice facility. They're building a new facility just because we need a newer facility facility. Even though they have one of the newest facilities in the country. It's like Oregon's going to be a player, just like Ohio State's always going to be a player, just like Texas is always going to be a player, just like Penn State is always going to be a. And just like Michigan is always going to be a quarterback, they got a quarterback who's young and very good from all reports. But him going to Oregon, what does this mean to you? What do you think this is saying to Alabama Right. Because he's in Alabama.
AJ Hawk
Huge.
Pat McAfee
And they were one of his final three. And what do you think this means for Oregon as a whole going forward?
Darius Butler
I mean, I'm sure Bama Pan Bama fans are pretty pissed off right now. A long way. But you know, Dan Landon, he's building a great program out there. But I just love these. These kids making these commitments on the show. And the eyes that we're playing now, We've had, what, five or six of these guys now, four or five stars. We're playing some good eyes. We may not be doing this anymore, but they may definitely be in this hall, at least one or two of them. But I love getting them getting on here with their family, all the people that made those sacrifices, saying for the next three to four years, committing to where they're going to. That was awesome.
Pat McAfee
What was the percentage that we heard about five stars?
Boston Connor
So, yeah, I heard this on a show the other day. It used to be 60% of five stars got drafted in the NFL or made it in the NFL in some way. Over the last few years, it has jumped up to 65%. So I don't know how if the rankings are getting better or whatever, but. Or if more NFL teams are just taking more chances on talent. But about 65 of these five stars are now going to the NFL.
Pat McAfee
Tank Jones, great nickname, con man. Fantastic 63260. He's on the Internet. 63245, FaceTime with him this morning. I'm like, 632-45. Geez, what a monster. And he's like, nah, actually, I'm like, 260 right now. Because, remember, these guys are all still growing. That's.
Jared Allen
That's the thing. Like, I get that. And I. I don't know how it was when you guys were growing up. Like, is this how it was for everybody? Because the Atkins kid we talked to, he's massive. There's a few other players that we. I mean, the. The tackle, that guy was 6, 7, 3, 50, and he's in high school. Like, I. I don't. When I played, which was kind of recently, I don't remember it being like that. Like Clowney, for instance, he was the one guy.
Pat McAfee
Derek Henry.
Jared Allen
Derrick Henry, the one guy. But now it feels like. Feels like there's 25 of them on. On every 100 list. It's absurd.
Pat McAfee
AJ Ohio High School football. Oh, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
McKinley plays right here. Legends came through here.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Is it. Is Ohio high school football still very much right?
Ty Schmidt
It's very, very much legit.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Why, why do you ask in that sarcastic, condescending way?
Pat McAfee
I mean I was not used to.
Darius Butler
Have that game of your.
Ty Schmidt
It used to have the big 33 game. I don't think they do it anymore.
Boston Connor
Well, they lost so many in a row that they stopped doing.
Darius Butler
Did they?
Pat McAfee
I actually we have no idea what the record is in that particular Big 33 matchup. I was not able to play it in it. I was at school already, you know, just getting ready to be a mountaineer. And also wasn't invited the. Well, whenever you. Whenever. I don't even want to get into it. 63260 and he's going to Oregon.
Ty Schmidt
And they seem to be good kids too. That's what.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Beyond their years as you say.
Pat McAfee
Okay, let's talk about some NFL news that is happening. I guess Ben Johnson's a hard ass. Hell yeah. That is what they're saying. That's what I've heard. Yeah. And I can respect and appreciate that. Especially if he starts out that way. There's been basically daily reports that Ben Johnson has been holding them accountable. You miss a, you miss a. A read or something. Get off the fucking field. You jump off sides. Get off the field. You don't know the route you're supposed to run. Get off the field. And I guess it's being reported as like this guy is a terrorist. This guy is the meanest man of all time. Ben Johnson's trying to change the culture in Chicago quickly. That is very evident from what I've been hearing. How do you think it goes? D. But because obviously if it goes well, it's good. But we've seen the Matt Patricia situation. We've seen the Man Genie situation in Cleveland here guys McDaniels out in Denver. This can go the wrong way, but also it can go the right way.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I think I like that Ben Johnson is leading with this as opposed to evolving. I think you probably feel.
Darius Butler
Yeah, you said something very big there. He's coming in. Starting off as a hard ass. We've all had experience with coaches is one way to start off that way. And then you can get a little lighter as time goes as you build that trust. But if you come in as a light hearted players coach and you try to become a hard ass junior tender tenor, that never works. But he chose, he chose this place. He could have went anywhere in the league for the last two or three years that he chose to go to Chicago. He chose to go and coach Caleb Williams. So he saw something there. He got. I think they Had a big, good draft. I think they had a great off season, building up the offensive line. And now it's going to be about developing your quarterback. That's going to be his biggest job. And when you are the head coach and you're the play caller, you don't have to worry about leaving every year. You know, he's going to build that continuity. So I'm high on Ben Johnson. Caleb wins. I think they'll figure it out next couple of years.
Pat McAfee
Chicago Bears might be the new kings of the NC North.
AJ Hawk
They're not.
Pat McAfee
But we. We can do that.
AJ Hawk
We can do that. Hey, we got a couple. We got a couple. We can still do that.
Pat McAfee
No, they are. Let's do it. Ben Johnson's coming in there with a little accountability just like every other team. Ben Johnson's coming in there with a quarterback who's picked number one overall with generational talent. AJ As a Green Bay packers legend, you scared to death that all of a sudden the Chicago Bears are about to show up in the NFC north conversation.
Ty Schmidt
No, I'm not scared at all, but I think it's good.
Pat McAfee
Scared to death.
Ty Schmidt
That's good for the NFL. Let's go for the NFC North. If the Bears are good, I like to see a good rivalry game. The Bears packers matchup is unbelievable. The history goes back forever. But have you ever seen a coach say this before practice? Like, declare that, hey, this is going to be our longest, our toughest practice?
Pat McAfee
Let's see.
Ty Schmidt
Let's separate the men from the boys.
Pat McAfee
Who's going to survive each other? Who wants to be king of the mountain?
Ty Schmidt
So that means first play at practice, you just got to annihilate somebody and start a full brawl with the whole team, right?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Say he likes fighting. That's not what he said.
Pat McAfee
These guys are saying they don't give a back him about what? This whole topic.
Boston Connor
Guys wearing a Dolphins hat.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, he is wearing Dolphins.
Pat McAfee
He would, like, talk about Dolphins being all the way back. I think Dolphins fans are believers. They might not be as shite as we thought they were going to be. Any of these teams could be good, including the Bears. Time. No. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
And I also, I also appreciate that he's doing this now because it kind of just shines a light on. Apparently Matt Eberflus was just letting these guys do whatever the hell they wanted at all times. I mean, we saw how many gaffes they had on both sides of the ball. So, like, I, I understand it, but again, we do this with the Bears every single year. And Bears fans will say like, hey, you beat the packers once last year. They did. I don't know what you're mouthing at me. Okay, sounds good. But it's just, you know, it's. This is why this part of this of the calendar is awesome. Yeah, I know. Because we get to do every, every fan base gets to do this for the next four to five weeks. It's, hey, we're going to win a Super Bowl. Everything has changed. We got a new coach, we got a, you know, this, this player in the draft. Like, that's why this part of the season is so awesome. And then when week one gets here, we'll see how much of this stuff is. Is true.
Darius Butler
Another big question mark. Minnesota, they got a brand new quarterback.
Pat McAfee
No.
Boston Connor
They're going to NFC championship.
Pat McAfee
They're going to be better than they were last year. Last year they were playing in a last year week of the season for the number one overall seed in the NFC was Sam Dar.
AJ Hawk
Correct.
Pat McAfee
Now, J.J. mcCarthy out of Michigan, national champion, could be a guy.
Jared Allen
Never lost Ohio State.
Pat McAfee
Could be a guy. He absolutely could be a guy out here.
Darius Butler
Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
In the NFL. But anytime you got a question mark at the quarterback position, you got everything else happening around it. That's great. It's obviously going to be scrutinized. But we've learned that KOC can basically make an offense for anybody. And I believe that's going to remain true. I don't think the Vikings are going anywhere. I don't think the Lions are going anywhere. Even though who. Their whole team's different. Yeah. You know, Jared Goff's there, obviously, but whenever you talk about coordinators and everything else, that's kind of having to change because you have success. It's brand new. I think they're still going to be around. I think the packers are always going to be good. How are the packers going to be this year?
AJ Hawk
Like I said, you know, like I. It all, it all depends on how Georgia Gordon Love does. I mean, their defense was much better.
Pat McAfee
He's a guy though, is he not?
AJ Hawk
I believe he is. I think he was hurt for a lot of the early portion of the season last year and probably came back a little too early and got hurt again. But we've seen, like, we've seen what he can do in his first full year as a starter. They win a playoff game, they beat the hell out of the Cowboys. And if they had Brandon McManus at the time instead of Ders Carlson, they probably beat the 49ers and maybe play the Lions in the NFC championship. So we'll see. I think. I mean, the packers are always going to be in the conversation, which is what I appreciate. Are they going to make a deep run in the playoffs? I don't know. I'm hoping so. But I mean, we'll find out. Week one what. What they kind of look like.
Pat McAfee
AJ The Green Bay packers, the weak link in the NFC North.
Ty Schmidt
No, they're not. But getting back to what Dan said about the Vikings.
Pat McAfee
He.
Ty Schmidt
He thinks if. If they have average quarterback play, they can win the NFC North.
AJ Hawk
He said if they have average quarterback play, they will be in the nfc.
Ty Schmidt
I don't think any team is winning their division with average quarterback, are they?
Darius Butler
No.
Jared Allen
It lists Ryan Kelly, it lists Wol Fries, and then he lists Jonathan Allen and Hargrave because they do have a great team.
Pat McAfee
I agree.
Ty Schmidt
But every great team still needs a.
Darius Butler
Quarterback to play above average quarterback play. NFC championship. That. That doesn't.
Pat McAfee
To be fair.
Ty Schmidt
Average.
Pat McAfee
Average or you're saying Dana Orlovsky was considered average? I guess.
Ty Schmidt
Stupid guys.
Boston Connor
He's already gonna have a tough weekend. We don't need a pile on.
Pat McAfee
Remember, this is Jared Allen's hall of Fame weekend.
Machine Gun Kelly
The.
Pat McAfee
The slow motion. Yep. Dan is going to be shown a thousand times. Not that it isn't every single day, but a thousand times this weekend. A man so intimidating that other quarterbacks.
Darius Butler
Oh, here we go.
Pat McAfee
Thought the end zones were 15 yards like that is going to be shown. And now you're saying it's asinine.
Darius Butler
I mean, that's the statement. That statement is crazy. And look, we. I love Dan. I love the work that he does. I know he grinds, he watched the tape, he does all these things. But we just haven't even seen J.J. mcCarthy on the field. He's already said it's going to be a step up from Sam Darnold coming off a career year. And then to say average quarterback play, you're going to get to the NFC Championship. We just mentioned these other NFC teams. Didn't even mention the Cowboys, the Niners. We obviously Eagles are the Rams. Like, we got teams with commanders quarterbacks. Like, we got like, we'll see. Maybe he's right.
Jared Allen
He's not the only one. Kirk Hershey said the same.
Pat McAfee
Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is the man who put out the asinine tweet. Yes, Dana Orlovsky. Dana, looks like you're having a great day. Let me tell you, you're getting your name tarnished out here. So the tweet you had out about average quarterback play from JJ Would lead the Vikings to the NFC championship game. Has been absolutely cooked. A lot of the boys up here have said you're gonna need a quarterback to play very well to make it to the NFC Championship in the NFL. Would you like to clarify a little bit more here or defend yourself from vacation? No, I don't need to. I mean clarify can. I don't need to defend it that much. But if we had to ask everybody, the top four rosters in the NFC see top to bottom, the best rosters. Minnesota is unequivocally going to be in that conversation. Eagles have the best roster in the NFL probably. And then you're talking Rams probably in that conversation for the two spot and then the three spots. Probably a debate between maybe Green Bay, maybe Minnesota, Chicago at some points, maybe Tampa Bay. That's it.
Darius Butler
Manners.
Pat McAfee
You missed the team. Tampa Bay. The ners. There's no way you're going to say the ners. The Lions. The Lions probably. But the Lions, dude, the Lions got big losses. Big, big, big losses.
Jared Allen
Coordinator roster loss is not as big.
Pat McAfee
Then coordinator Frank Ragnow. Frank Ragnow is an enormous loss. He's the best center in football. Only player two star defensive of players are coming off injuries. So like let's see what they're like. Best player on the field. They said coming off a big injury. So Minnesota's line just. There's the. We're sitting at the hall of Fame. Minnesota's lines of scrimmage are going to be great. They're going to be great. Yeah, but a quarterback has to play like that's why the Jalen hurts thing. I get it. But like had to make plays like have to 100. I totally agree. So to get to an NFC championship game, like you're gonna have to make plays. Like you're gonna have to make plays. So I don't think an average quarterback would be able to make the plays that are going to have to be able to make. Okay, let me, let me ask you this and let's, let's be completely honest. Honest about the whole situation. That'd be your first time. Jalen. Jalen. Last year. Jalen hurts. Last year from in totality was the above average, below average or average through the, through the body of the season.
Darius Butler
Above average.
Pat McAfee
I won a Super Bowl. Sick of it. I want a Super Bowl.
AJ Hawk
We also can't see say that like average.
Pat McAfee
This isn't the 1980s. He.
AJ Hawk
He said with average play, average quarterback play, the Vikings will be in the NFC Championship and then listed every other team in the NFC north as potentially second best roster in football. So it's like what are they just going to run rough shot through the division and then get.
Pat McAfee
I guess Orlovski's yelling from the beach. Let me talk. That's how he gets it. That's what he does. What do you got, Dan? Dude, I didn't. I. I asked you the body of the season.
Jared Allen
Talking about that.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, we ruined his day. Hey, enjoy the beach. This ain't that big of a deal. We'll have this conversation again. You're the best day of life. Love you, Dano. We know what side of the conversation he's on there, don't we?
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah, we do.
Pat McAfee
But that's what he does.
Jared Allen
Ty just laid it out perfectly. Okay, because this is how he says. Like I never said that. Nope, that's not true. Because he lists the Vikings, but then he does all the other teams in the NFC north. So then when it comes around, he said no, I thought they were. I thought the Lions good.
Pat McAfee
If not better. Let's move along. We have an Ohio legend here. And we also have some breaking news. I do believe for the college football season they have a new song of the season and a video to debut it that is absolutely filthy in. We're here at the hall of Fame. The hall of Fame game's happening tonight. We'll be kicking off football. And in just a few weeks, Texas will be traveling to Columbus to kick off the greatest college football season we've ever had. And this will scratch you right where your college football fandom itches.
Boston Connor
It's the dawn of a new college football season.
Pat McAfee
College football runs through our soul. We're going to war with us. And we are ready to start this season. Here we go. Turn this thing back up. Let's go. Make it happen. How many of you really know you're alive? They pull me over doing 135. Show me the money and I'll show you the lies. Everyone's equal till it's time to divide. Let's go. You want this, you got that. You want this, you got that way. Watch him walk right past you. Run fast. Run fast while you have a chance. He's got it. Come on. Come on. Can you believe it? At the buzzer. Are you kidding me? Yeah. Yeah.
Boston Connor
A 12 team playoff goal.
Pat McAfee
We knew this is going to be fun. You can feel the energy. College football got this one right. Wow.
AJ Hawk
It is a brand new roster.
Jared Allen
A chance to make it a special season.
Pat McAfee
The energy Is coming back. Run back while you have the chance.
Jared Allen
This is what makes this sport so amazing.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, the man who created that song, Ohio Legend, he'll be releasing his seventh studio album in early August. Ladies and gentlemen, mgk. Hey. Thank you for joining us.
Machine Gun Kelly
Thanks. This works.
Pat McAfee
Cool. Yeah, you definitely work. You. And a microphone is a good thing. So we're gonna make sure that absolutely happens. I've been a fan of yours for a long, long time. Okay. We were actually going through the World Star earlier today. The freestyles from the car, everything like that. Your song with Jeezy. Hold on. Shut up. Who remembers my combo? Yeah. I was in a gym probably a thousand times with that song, so watching you continue to kill it and then change genres and continue to crush cool thing. As a day one fan, I'd like to thank you.
Machine Gun Kelly
I feel like. You know what's funny? Did you used to. Did you ever tweet me back in the day?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Okay.
Machine Gun Kelly
See, I remember, like, 10 years.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You didn't have a lot of followers. Yeah. Then you took off to the moon. So I'm a big fan. I. I really respect your grind and hustle.
Machine Gun Kelly
I also was. In my head, I was like, man, I wanted. I wanted to do this interview with a mouth guard so bad, and I asked him to give me a mouth guard, and I'm like, since when did mouth guards look like the things that my babies have?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, a little. Yeah, Little binky situation.
Machine Gun Kelly
They look like a binky. Like when I was. When I played sports, the one time I ever did, they just. I would just look like a mouth guard.
Pat McAfee
Wait, I saw your baseball throw. You looked athletic.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, well, look, looks are deceiving now.
Pat McAfee
I saw you dance, too. A lot of people saw you dance. I think you look athletic. Got good rhythm. I appreciate the change here. Now let's talk about Don't Wait, Run Fast being the song for college football. How's that come together? And that video was sick. I hope you were proud of it.
Machine Gun Kelly
I appreciate it.
Jared Allen
This has been happening a little bit.
Pat McAfee
Because it's raining, guys. It's raining. Yeah. You understand?
Machine Gun Kelly
Well, okay, so I. It's this. This song is actually. It's ironic because I made this song the day after I played the. The Kansas City Chiefs super bowl party. But they didn't win, and so we had to still play the parties, and I was gonna be fun.
Pat McAfee
Is that uncomfortable? Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
You know who doesn't. You know who. You know who. Who doesn't go to the after parties of the team? Who lost?
Pat McAfee
Players.
Machine Gun Kelly
Players, girls, anybody?
AJ Hawk
Yeah, right.
Pat McAfee
A lot of suits in there, though.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah. So we had to go play. And we were in there for, like, you know, I had. And of course, I was, like, the headliner of it. So, like. Well, not of course, but I was saying luck would have it. It was like I had to go play, like an hour set versus, like, Quavo Shaboozi. They went to go. They got to play, like, one song a dip. So I was up there for, like an hour, and I was like, dude, when you're playing songs that now, for the past five years, I haven't played in front of a crowd that, you know, wasn't young, didn't come to see you, that wasn't stoked. So, like, that was. For me, that was.
Pat McAfee
There's no toughness out there, for sure.
Machine Gun Kelly
And I was. And there was a. There was about four girls, and I'm playing a bunch of songs that I realized in that moment, I was like, man, these. These songs are kind of like four girls, you know? Could have really used a song with testosterone right now. And I got back to the studio the next day, and I was like, dude, never again. Never again. Like, we need something with that that we could have played in that.
Pat McAfee
Why did you end up going the way you went? Because we're watching the freestyles from the car. Yeah. Unbelievable.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I know every. In the rap world, what happened. Don't have to bring it up, but it did happen. Everybody says that about you. I, as a fan of yours, pissed that you left the rap game, would like to let you know that felt like you were making music for me. Right.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Through that entire thing. When you transition to become more of musician in the entirety.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Why do you end up doing that? Do you want to showcase musical talent? Like, why. Why is that the decision, you think?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, I think it's just adding on to. It's never leaving.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Because there's some rap. There's rap happen in everything that you do.
Machine Gun Kelly
For sure. I mean, I also think, like, I'm not dying tomorrow, so.
Pat McAfee
Thank God.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, I'll wait.
Pat McAfee
I'm happy to hear you.
Machine Gun Kelly
I'll wait for a while, you know, and.
Pat McAfee
But.
Machine Gun Kelly
When I look at the artists that I love, like a Bowie or a Prince or. I don't Even when I think about bone Thugs, you know, like, they. They. They had melody and harmony and all of these things that are untraditional towards what is supposed to be expected from them, which as rappers, that you just. There's, I think Breaking out of the box is inspiring. And I'm. I think, hell, yeah. I don't know. I just. My. What I was just listening to in the car is a rap album that I'm working on.
Pat McAfee
Oh, wait, okay. Really?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
How? We got bangers?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, we got bangers.
Pat McAfee
I can't wait. I cannot wait to hear. We are very excited for that.
Machine Gun Kelly
I think there's a. There's There was a. I mean, Lost Americana, which comes out on Friday. It was originally.
Pat McAfee
Thank you. Congratulations.
Machine Gun Kelly
It was originally a double album. So at this point, you're saying that.
Pat McAfee
My assumptions that the rap game was over for MGK were a little bit early and wrong is what you're saying. Very wrong. I was bummed out. I was bummed. I'm happy now. I'll let you know. Debunk has a question for you. Yeah.
Darius Butler
Where did that passion for music come from? Did a little research. You grew kind of all over the world, speak multiple languages, but where did that passion for music come from at an early age?
Machine Gun Kelly
Just not having friends. I think my, like, friends being here and my headphones, I, like, watch. I would watch TV or watch movies and be like, oh, I want to be that guy. Like, I remember when I saw Tom Cruise and Top Gun, I was like, hell, yeah, for sure I'm about to be an Air force fighter.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. 100 questions asked.
Machine Gun Kelly
When I saw Vegeta and Dragon Ball Z, I was like, for sure I'm going to become a Super Saiyan. You know, when I saw DMX on top of a bunch of school buses on Rough Riders Anthem or we right here, it was one of the. One of those two songs. I was like, for sure I'm going to ride motorcycles and become a rapper. So, yeah, I think.
Pat McAfee
I think they've all worked out, man. Yeah, that continues.
Machine Gun Kelly
I haven't gone Super Saiyan and I haven't joined the Air Force, but, like, still got time.
Pat McAfee
Not dying anytime soon. A.J. fellow hot.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, as far as, like, your career, I mean, you've been doing it for so long, it's. It's unbelievable. But do you have, like, a plan? Do you sit there and write it out or think, this is what I'm going to do? Are you more organic? I know different musicians or artists, they. They approach it differently. Some people have everything, like, oh, the next five years, this one, certain albums are coming out, or do you just kind of let it hit you and go with whatever you feel passionate about?
Machine Gun Kelly
No, I have a plan. It just sucks sticking to it because. Because I got pat Being like, yo, oh man, you, you, you're not rapping. And I'm like in my head I'm just like, I have so much.
Pat McAfee
Come on man.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, I need you.
Pat McAfee
I'm getting lazy.
Machine Gun Kelly
I hear you.
Pat McAfee
I need you. I hear you.
Machine Gun Kelly
I got you. It's, it's, it's, it's there, it's present. It's coming.
Pat McAfee
Thank you. And I'm a run fast. Run fast. I'm do that. I am. I'm behind you. I'm behind you. But the plan thing.
Machine Gun Kelly
But look, when you look back on, when you look back on this, on this career, it's like a roller coaster where you don't know where, where the, the, the Drop Offs are. It's more fun that way if you know what to expect and when you know it's just a little.
Pat McAfee
I haven't seen any Drop Off. I feel like I followed you from the.
Machine Gun Kelly
No, no, I'm saying, I'm saying if I, if I make this type of album, it's, it's like a drop. You're like, oh, I wasn't expecting that.
Pat McAfee
Oh, okay.
Machine Gun Kelly
And then you know, you go up this way or you do an unexpected turn. I just like, I like being unpredictable, elusive.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. How's the creative process? Has you writing songs all the time. Do you have time that you allot like hey, I'm gonna go into the.
Machine Gun Kelly
Woods and yeah, this album I did after a four day water fast and that's why I was just like okay, I believe in it. Like this came from a pure place I did with my best friends. All the ones that were like making all those songs with me that you talked about. Like, you know, we, we made this in, in the living room. Our studio burnt down in those LA fires.
Darius Butler
Man down.
Machine Gun Kelly
And so we just set the mic up in my house in the living room and you know, made this joint.
Pat McAfee
I can't wait. And I assume it's going to be phenomenal. We can't wait to listen. I think we just saw the other day you said you drink coffee, drink water and smoke cigarettes.
Machine Gun Kelly
It's about it.
Jared Allen
Living the dream.
Pat McAfee
Super handsome, great shape to always so that you look like the mannequin. You know, can wear whatever you are like supermodel stuff now.
Machine Gun Kelly
Thanks man.
Pat McAfee
What a run you had. I can't do the water, coffee, cigarette thing. I wish I could. I fat. I'm a fat ass. Which is why I'm a gym. Yeah, okay. See that it's for my career too. You don't think about.
Machine Gun Kelly
I got You. No, no, I got you. I'll start being less selfish.
Pat McAfee
Thank you, Jesus. Ty has a question for you.
AJ Hawk
Do you have any. I don't want to say aspirations, because you've done acting stuff before. Like, you were awesome as Tommy Lee and Dirt. And I remember, I mean, the Netflix movie with Joseph Gordon Levitt, it was kind of like a bit power. But. Yeah, yeah, you were right at the start of it. Like, do you cut out any time to, like, pursue any of that kind of stuff or is that kind of just like, if someone comes to you with, like, an idea that you're kind of into, you. You kind of dive into it?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, I just get nose so many times. I just. I pursue it. I pursue it as much as I can, but I get. I think.
Pat McAfee
I don't. I don't believe that. So you're saying, hey, hi, I'm mgk would love any role in your movie that you have. They're like, hey, you know what, mgk, why don't you get the out of here? Yeah, nobody's doing that about that. No way. Yeah, you would want to do more action.
Machine Gun Kelly
You can cuss on here.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
Wow, that's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, do your thing. Breaking the mold. You know, we take inspiration from you, brother.
Machine Gun Kelly
Thank you. Well, yeah, all good. I. Yeah, I have a lot of aspirations to be in movies. It just doesn't, you know, hasn't panned out that way. I'm on universal timing, though, so we'll see.
Pat McAfee
Universal timing?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah. Like. Like, like, it'll align. The angels will put something in the.
Pat McAfee
Works whenever they feel like we see signs and everything.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, there's been plenty of movies that come out that I'm like, I was supposed to be in that. I was supposed to be in that. Or, oh, I did auditions for that. Like Sinners. I was supposed to be in that.
Pat McAfee
Oh.
Machine Gun Kelly
No, the vampire. They had. They had me set up to do the auditions. It's the. The vampire, the one that's in the house. So he's the second vampire. The one that. The guy comes and, like, he eats the family up. Yeah, but he said the. In the audition, he says. He says he has to say the N word and I just wouldn't do it.
Pat McAfee
Yes, there's. I think there is. From our conversations. That was very. That's good. Bring a world care.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I appreciate that. That Django and Chain thing was pretty wild to watch. Connor has a question for you, mgk.
Jared Allen
So when it comes to acting and, like, do you have Any sort of timeline. Like you don't really care. You're not really, you know, they're. You're saying they're telling you no. But you were also in shows like their series on Netflix, things of that nature. And you also said, you know, when the universe aligns. But like, like, do you ever have some sort of schedule? Some sort of like, hey, this is the thing I want to do next. This is exactly, you know, what my plan is, or is it just kind of, you know, seat of the pants?
Machine Gun Kelly
It's which camera can I look at this one?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
Hey, dude, I'd like to be in cinema while I still look young.
Pat McAfee
Okay. All right. That was the message. Hollywood.
Machine Gun Kelly
I would really like to be recruited into a movie spiel while I still got. Got some looks.
Pat McAfee
Hell yeah. Let's make it. We're part of it. Part of an Oscar run here. All of a sudden.
Machine Gun Kelly
Hey, I just feel like my luck is gonna be like, as soon as, like all my hair just leaves or goes gray or whatever.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but you could be a great white trash looking.
Machine Gun Kelly
I feel like that will be like the, the run. That will be the run was as.
Pat McAfee
Soon as this guy was born for this one. Can we talk about the. The tattoos? Yeah. Because I got my first tattoo.
Machine Gun Kelly
Cool.
Pat McAfee
See that?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
They've been asking for me to take my shirt off this entire day. Now's not the time. I am a sex symbol, much like.
Machine Gun Kelly
A healthy, good looking dude.
Pat McAfee
That's really cool. I'm gonna put that on my Twitter bio. Yeah, I'm putting on my bio. I got this tattoo here and I think I checked the box. I was awake. It's on a tough spot. That hurts, right? That's what everybody says. Yeah. My wife's. So she gives me a little bit of respect because I did this. Then I'm going to have them give me the drugs and I'm a wake up with a full Samoan. Yeah, you, you tattoo people say that. I understand, but I did it. I did it here. When did we decide just to do the entire matte black on the upper eighth of our body? That is so much time in pain, I would assume. Yeah. And how do you feel now about it all?
Machine Gun Kelly
You know, for the first couple months, I was like, wow, you look like a cretin.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
You know, and I was. For the first couple months, I had to have some friends that just could support, say the right thing, because I would.
Pat McAfee
Looks good, dude. Looks good.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, I needed a couple of those because I was like, I would, you know, you brush your teeth and you look up and you'd be like, oh, Jesus. Like, dude, like, okay, so if you were looking at me, what would you think? You know, I needed a couple.
Pat McAfee
What are you gonna do? Go get it lasered? Were you gonna go get it lasered off? Like, I think. Is that what the realization was? Hey, this is for definitely forever. We have.
Machine Gun Kelly
If you're gonna get this lasered up, you might as well just die.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, there it is right there. You can't see the camera, but it's right here.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, if you're gonna get that. And it's got worse since then. Not worse, but it's gotten more intense since then.
Pat McAfee
So I think it's hilarious. And as soon as I saw it, I was like, well, he has the right body for. Cuz. You're jacked. Yeah, you know, you're absolutely jacked. Am I?
Machine Gun Kelly
But basically slim to. To me.
Pat McAfee
I tell you to take your clothes off. Dude.
Machine Gun Kelly
To me, I just liked redesigning like the human skin.
Pat McAfee
Go on.
Machine Gun Kelly
I liked redesigning the human skin. I thought it was cool.
Pat McAfee
That's it. Your human skin. Yeah, yeah. You're human skin.
Machine Gun Kelly
Everything to me. Like sometimes I get bored and I think everything is an art project. So I think I was just kind of like looking at my body and I was like, this sucks.
Pat McAfee
Are you on your phone much? Nah. You read books?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Tv?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, I like. I like TV series. Yeah. I. I get envious because I've never booked in any of them, but.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but you're away from your phone a lot.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
When that start?
Machine Gun Kelly
I don't know. I guess. I don't know. Like when I stopped looking at porn.
Jared Allen
That's fair.
Pat McAfee
You stopped looking at porn? Yeah. Congratulations, man. I think that's a big deal for people. There's a lot of like, that's a huge. Lot of ads come out, a lot.
Jared Allen
Of actually former players.
Pat McAfee
We've seen a lot of ex football.
Jared Allen
Players to stop jerking their.
Pat McAfee
So you. The phone was basically just a bopping device for you and you said, you know what? Now that's bopping. You know what it is? You know.
Machine Gun Kelly
Okay, gotcha, gotcha.
Pat McAfee
You know, unless you're just watching just for cinematic purposes.
Machine Gun Kelly
Oh man. Dude, that should have changed that scene.
Pat McAfee
Okay, let's talk about the don't wait. Run fast. Is that going to be in your next studio album? And yeah. Are you performing this throughout the college football season? And how much of a college football guy are you? You're from Ohio, I would assume the Ohio State Buckeyes yeah. You fall.
Machine Gun Kelly
We love the Buckeyes, dude.
Pat McAfee
Everybody from Ohio does, legitimately. Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
Cool colors, cool logo.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Cool. Everything.
Machine Gun Kelly
Like, it's just cool.
Pat McAfee
And reigning national champions. Yeah. Yeah. And they spend a lot of money and they're invested, and it's good. Are you gonna be doing a lot throughout the college football season? We'd love to see you. We'd love to see you.
Machine Gun Kelly
I'd love to be a part of it. I don't really associate me much with sports, you know, but I would love to.
AJ Hawk
Wearing a baseball jersey.
Pat McAfee
So. Look at you right now. You got baseball cap on.
Darius Butler
Wwe.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Wwe.
Antonio Gates
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Come on. We got. Look at this. The hell are you talking about? Baseball on right now? Got showtops on right now. You play basketball in those if you had to?
Machine Gun Kelly
Totally.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, absolutely. You're big sports guy. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
What sport did you play?
Pat McAfee
Sorry?
Ty Schmidt
You said you played sport for like a minute.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What was.
Machine Gun Kelly
I was a tight end.
Pat McAfee
Really? Yeah. Nice. We had Antonio Gates up here. You could have been him. Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
I sc. I scored one football. I mean, one. I scored.
Pat McAfee
Don't do that. Hold up, hold up, hold up. Yeah. Let's not put a microphone in front of him. Any sports events. Jesus.
Machine Gun Kelly
I scored one touchdown. Oh, my God. I scored one football.
Pat McAfee
Dude, you hit a. You hit a grand slam in that football game.
Machine Gun Kelly
Dude, I'm on a 50. 50 hour migraine. So that. This.
Pat McAfee
So how's that happen? Is that because you're water fasting and don't eat food, you think or what? What?
Machine Gun Kelly
I. I actually do think that it. It's catching up to me because I was on. I was in London and I came back for this really quick.
Pat McAfee
For this. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
So sorry.
Pat McAfee
What else? Yeah. Yeah.
Jared Allen
Thank you.
Pat McAfee
But what else are you doing?
Machine Gun Kelly
Nothing. I just came here for this.
Pat McAfee
The hall of Fame for.
Machine Gun Kelly
For y'.
Pat McAfee
All. This is so. And you're going back. You should. We should have been given a heads up that you're flying from London for this. Why? This is a bad decision. You remember when you looked in the mirror and said you saw the thing?
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And said, boys need a little motivation about not the biggest things. You. You should get one of those from the boys today as well.
Machine Gun Kelly
I'm happy. I can't. Except for the fact that I just said I scored one football, which is crazy. I'm gonna get torched.
Pat McAfee
We'll dump it. Nobody will ever know. Nobody will even know. Who's your NFL team. Are you a Cleveland Browns fan?
Machine Gun Kelly
Oh, for sure.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. How do you think the Browns are gonna do this year.
Machine Gun Kelly
You know, it's just one of those things that you just. We love. I love them for what's inside.
Pat McAfee
That's right. They try hard. The New Jersey, I mean, you got the cool New Jersey fire.
Machine Gun Kelly
You know what I mean? The New Jersey's fire.
Pat McAfee
New helmet's cool.
Machine Gun Kelly
New helmet's cool. Maybe that we just needed some cool.
Jared Allen
Amazing Graham in the middle.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Cool mascot.
Machine Gun Kelly
It's cool.
Pat McAfee
We're doing.
Machine Gun Kelly
We're doing a collab with them, too, as well.
Pat McAfee
So. Merch.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Are you gonna go break? You've broken the guitar a couple times.
Machine Gun Kelly
I don't think I've broken the guitar. Actually. I played guitar. I brought them out, like, playing guitar.
Pat McAfee
You always been a good guitar player.
Machine Gun Kelly
No, I still am not.
Pat McAfee
I think you are.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, I think I am. I think I. I think I am enough for like, what? I like that I play whatever I feel. But, like, by technicality, I'm like.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you're comparing yourself to, like, people at the top of it. Yeah. I think whenever you're playing, it's great. You always got a sweet guitar.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Always has some pizzazz.
Machine Gun Kelly
I'm here for the looks, dude.
Pat McAfee
That's why we brought you from London. All right, we'll continue digitally. This has been us from the hall of fame. Goodbye. All right, we're still live. We're still live. We're just not on TV. So now we are currently on digital ESPN plus Disney plus Tik Tok live YouTube. Tik Tok. Probably really good for you, I assume, right?
Machine Gun Kelly
I think so.
Pat McAfee
I. What do you mean, you think so? You're doing all this. Hey.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You're doing the. A lot of conversation about that. You heard that pissed you off.
Machine Gun Kelly
No, no, no.
Pat McAfee
I thought it was good.
Machine Gun Kelly
No, I think it's. I think it's cool. I think I. But I. I just. I'm still, like. I feel like I'm in an archaic form of. I guess I just. I don't really do stuff for any. Any opinions anymore. So I. I just am kind of just doing stuff that I like.
Pat McAfee
Well, the Tik Tok dance took over everything.
Jared Allen
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
And then obviously, you had people that were pissed off about it saying, yeah, so mad. They were so mad. You were dancing on a song called Cliche. Yeah. That was a beautiful thing. That was fun to watch from outside looking in. Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
Because obviously you got to understand that I'm, like, inside my house, dying, laughing over it. I'm like, dude, you guys are dumb.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yes.
Jared Allen
Made that video With. With your buddy. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
About it. Yeah, it was awesome. Yeah. Vampire Diaries. That's a good one. We listened listen to every lyric of that today. Trying to listen to your story you're telling. You're a great writer, dude.
Machine Gun Kelly
Thank you. Yeah, that song is cool. It literally is about a vampire just wants to go outside in the sun and it's like said. Well, there's like a cool parallel, you know, metaphors like the. Try to find the silver lining, but it'll kill me if I touch.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And you talk about never being able to walk in the day. You know, the grass isn't always greener. There's a lot of. There's a lot in there. Yeah. I feel like you're very.
Machine Gun Kelly
I really wish I could know what they're. Whatever they're making those like moaning noises over. I wish I could always.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Jared Allen
Beach ball getting popped.
Pat McAfee
Beach ball bopping the beach ball. Yeah. There's the venmos. People writing their venmos on the beach ball. Hitting it on a screen. Yeah. They were head hunting us a little bit earlier.
Machine Gun Kelly
That's funny.
Pat McAfee
It's been a fun time. You know, we're back in Ohio. This is a way Ohio. And also not only beach balls, do we have. We have a mascot too. Mgk. I don't know if you know this. The hall of fame has a mascot and we had an opportunity to speak to mascots handler. Yeah, yeah. Is that the proper terms?
Jared Allen
Lackey?
Pat McAfee
He had a lot of energy. This guy was jacked up about the mascot. I believe the mascots. This is the Goat. This is Goldie. This is Goldie the Goat. Your thoughts on Goldie, mgk? Just early initial thoughts. Yeah, initial thoughts. Good fit. Not a bad fit. Hey, how you doing? Gotta save Goldie. Holy. You're here, we're here.
Darius Butler
It takes a better not talk.
Pat McAfee
Go. Do you talk or no? I hope not. No, but I shoot. Oh, no. Oh, no. Mgk. Oh, that's pretty good.
Machine Gun Kelly
I obviously just want to pants Goldie so, so bad. The opportunity is right there.
Pat McAfee
Normally mascot uniforms don't have the actual shoes. Shorts on top. Normal. Okay, I see. It's okay. You want to pull it up? Thank you so much. Floated. Floated. Float him.
AJ Hawk
Nice toss.
Pat McAfee
Oh, is there safety on this thing? There you go. Right there. Aim it low. Pat. Oh, I got to pop it. Pop it. Pop it. Pop it.
AJ Hawk
Pop.
Pat McAfee
Keep going, keep going. Pop it a bunch. This thing. Yeah, we're. You got T shirt guns in your show?
Machine Gun Kelly
No.
Pat McAfee
Maybe the first time we've ever had one too it's great television.
Machine Gun Kelly
I'm loving your aim. It looks like it's really going to hurt somebody, so let's keep going with the way you were just doing it.
Pat McAfee
Lower it. I run. Hey, I'm bopping it right now. That's what I'm saying.
Darius Butler
I take.
Pat McAfee
If he would have still had his phone, I would have had him. Tighten this thing up a little bit.
Machine Gun Kelly
Legit.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Yeah. Punt. That's good. Okay, I'm looking for the next wide.
Machine Gun Kelly
Receiver for the Cleveland Browns.
Pat McAfee
Really quick.
Darius Butler
Hey, found it.
Pat McAfee
That was a great shot.
Machine Gun Kelly
Did the kill shot.
Jared Allen
Turn that thing sideways. Did the kill shot.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I saw you. Ha. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, it's on you go. All right, Go.
Darius Butler
Hey, have some muzzle control.
Pat McAfee
I'm a little bit worried about the gun safety here. Discipline. All right. We appreciate you, Goldie. Have a great weekend.
Jared Allen
You go on now, Goat.
Pat McAfee
Thank you, Goat. Go on, get it down. That's bad way to end. On you. Go. Get, go. All right, mgk. What's next for you? Mgk. We got album on Friday.
Machine Gun Kelly
Albums, Friday, Thursday, midnight.
Pat McAfee
Is that how that works? So Friday morning.
Machine Gun Kelly
It's cool. It happens, right? Like, during MGK Day. So we do, like, the mayor mates all the. The weekend of August 13th. Every year is MGK Day, so we throw free concerts.
Pat McAfee
Is that Est fest?
Machine Gun Kelly
It's what it. It's kind of like the new version of what that was.
Pat McAfee
Oh, that's sweet. I remember watching the Early Days.
Machine Gun Kelly
Those were fire.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they were outrageous. You're still doing that? MGK days? Yeah, it's a music festival that happens back.
Machine Gun Kelly
We kind of just. We just. We do it for free this time, though, so we just give back and.
Pat McAfee
Let everybody come through. Do you remember these days how. When was the last time you saw this video? Put this photo up that's in my little screen here. That's you in that car. We went through those earlier today. You took over World Star for, like, I don't know, it felt like, oh, yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
See what's crazy about that? My boy had just got out of jail, and I picked him up on the side of the road. I saw him walking on the side of the road, and he had just.
Pat McAfee
Got out of jail.
Machine Gun Kelly
I was like, oh, hop in here.
Pat McAfee
That's literally how it all started.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah, it's. I, I, I think, I think that we invented vlogs.
Pat McAfee
Just go and put that on the ticker. You invented vlogs? Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
Like me, Soulja boy.
Darius Butler
Who did it first?
Machine Gun Kelly
Maybe, maybe, maybe Soulja and then. And then me. And then Wiz. I think we were the first that pioneered like uploading daily versions, versions of our lives or like what was happening, you know, in our weeks and stuff like that. Like, I had my, my, my, my daughter. I had that video. I was just looking at that the other day where it's like, what's up, guys? I'm about to have my daughter.
Pat McAfee
And then now your daughter.
Machine Gun Kelly
2008, 2009.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Now your daughter. You're FaceTiming her that you're on the Spotify hot new playlist or whatever. And it's like, it's cool to watch it. You've been very public for a long time. Yeah. And you've had like 10 different lives for sure. And we've learned about all of them. Yeah. That has to be tough as a human. Yeah.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yeah. I mean, I, Dude, I feel deflated sometimes, but I'm also just like, dude, I'm living in a place of like, I feel very free because I stopped caring about opinions anymore. You know what I mean?
Pat McAfee
You're a success, brother. From Cleveland, Ohio. If you didn't quit and want your brain at football, he could have been in here with that.
Machine Gun Kelly
Remember when I scored one Football.
Darius Butler
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Dude, what a game, man. This guy hit for the cycle in his first ever football game.
AJ Hawk
That's right.
Pat McAfee
Got a hole in one in the fourth quarter.
Machine Gun Kelly
So. Fire.
Pat McAfee
Unbelievable.
Machine Gun Kelly
You remember that, right?
Pat McAfee
Rolled a turkey right before half with my cricket bat. Bingo. Slam dunk. Football legend, straight up icon.
Machine Gun Kelly
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Mgk. We appreciate it.
Machine Gun Kelly
Real quick, you know, it'll be so awesome. Is it on the last day of this show, whenever that could be 20 years from now. I think he just lifted up his hat and his hair came with it.
Pat McAfee
There's a chance.
Jared Allen
How do you know that wouldn't happen right now?
Pat McAfee
That's what he's saying. I think. I think he's saying that right now. We gotta. We got a Brett Michaels situation.
Adam Schefter
Make a wait.
Pat McAfee
This isn't the last day.
Machine Gun Kelly
But boy, oh boy, would that make me so happy to just one day.
Pat McAfee
There's a chance. Hey, you're fault's gone.
Machine Gun Kelly
There you go, guys. You set that headphone down.
Antonio Gates
You go like.
Machine Gun Kelly
And it's just.
Pat McAfee
That's the final shot.
Jared Allen
And now my watch has ended.
Pat McAfee
This guy is bald all along. Yeah. But.
Machine Gun Kelly
Or has the work like just a very, very. Like just a scraggly comb over.
Jared Allen
Wonderful. Two Tom Tom.
Machine Gun Kelly
Or you have the Coolio.
Jared Allen
That'd be sweet.
Darius Butler
That would be sweet.
Pat McAfee
TRO had a run there. Coolio was a Part of that.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I was going to ask you about WorldStarHipHop.com being like such a huge part of your career. Yeah. But you got to go do sports. It's going to be very similar to what you just did here.
Jared Allen
Yeah, same thing. That's basically the same you can say on there too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And drop.
Machine Gun Kelly
Well, dude, I go see what they got popping, man.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, you g. Appreciate you. Thanks for hanging. You're the best.
Jared Allen
How do you know I was bald?
Pat McAfee
Hey, dude, have some food. Let's get rid of those migraines.
Darius Butler
Cheap meal.
Pat McAfee
Let's have some Italian. Little chicken parm. Thank you. Thank you. All right. He said bangers are on the way.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
AJ Hawk
Appreciate it, man.
Darius Butler
All right, bro.
Pat McAfee
Hey, see you later, big man. That's protecting him. You are huge. Yeah. Guy with big ass beard over there. Appreciate what you do for mgk. Oh, hell yeah. Also, everybody has been standing his parking lot. Thank you so much. Like, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, guys. Listen, just like him saying he came here from London, that was a terrible decision. You guys hanging out with us out here in the middle of this rain. Terrible decision, but we appreciate you doing it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. After Zoomies at the dog park, it's time for drive up at Target. In goes a big bag of kibble and one squeaky chicken toy for the good boy. Drive up. That's ready when you are. Only in the Target app. Just tap Target.
Adam Schefter
Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile.
Pat McAfee
Now I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited Premium Wireless for $15 a month is back. So I thought it would be fun if we made $15 bills, but it.
Adam Schefter
Turns out that's very illegal.
Pat McAfee
So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try@mintmobile.com Switch upfront payment of $45 for a three month plan equivalent to $15 per month. Required new customer offer for first three months only. Speed slow. After 35 gigabytes of networks busy. Taxes and fees extra. See mintmobile.com I think to wrap up we should go around table and see who's gonna win tonight's big game. Tonight will be talked about for at least 25 minutes. Tonight's game is gonna be an epic battle that we will remember for at least a day and a half. Tonight we kick off the NFL season in beautiful fashion in Canton, Ohio. It is Lions versus Chargers. It is Kyle Allen versus. It is Hendon Hooker making an appearance verse DJ You. There's going to be names that we know from college football fame, there's going to be helmets that we know from NFL lore, and we'll officially say we're in football season tonight. Everybody playing in this game tonight had to report to training camp earlier. I will mind you, they don't necessarily love that they have to play in the hall of Fame game, but they understand the honor it is to play and kick off what this weekend is about. To be here in Canton, Ohio, a celebration of those who laid the grounds for the world that we live in now. The greats are honored here, celebrated here, and live here forever. And that's why the hall of Fame game is so damn important. It's not just about what's happening on the field. It's the aura of the city in which the game is taking place. This is football through and through. This is an awesome some time, and we've been very lucky to be here. Now, who wins? Lions. Chargers at Boston. Connor, this evening on NBC. I'll take the Lions.
Jared Allen
I'll take the over. Pat, I think it's. It's pretty simple here. I don't think anybody's really playing.
Boston Connor
Three straight overs.
Pat McAfee
What were you going to say?
Boston Connor
Three straight overs.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Three straight overs in hall of Fame games.
Boston Connor
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Okay. So maybe towards the end of it, there's a little bit chaos on defensive side. We got Ms. Simons. We're running a ball. Maybe not making tackles is we're scoring a bunch of points. Three straight overs.
Jared Allen
Some guys playing too. Probably three quarters tonight. By the fourth, they're going to be pretty tired because there's no backups going.
Pat McAfee
In after Ty Schmidt. Do you agree with what con man said?
AJ Hawk
I like the Lions. I like a big game out of Hendon Hooker and maybe igniting a little bit of a quarterback controversy with Jared Goff.
Darius Butler
Okay.
Pat McAfee
Maybe there's chance.
Machine Gun Kelly
You never know.
Pat McAfee
THEY CHANT Jared. That is foxy. Did you hear what Ty was just trying to do to Detroit? I know what Ty's to trying doing. Okay. We actually have a quarterback battle for the backup quarterback. So I would love to see hand and play great so he can confirm that QB2 spot. Zeno, what do your notes say on how tonight's gonna go? Have you been keeping track? Yeah, I would take a lot of notes with this other David Baker pencil. I think Chargers all the way. Okay. You like Chargers. I respect that. Let's go to one half of the Hammer Cowboys AP tone.
Boston Connor
I've been struggling with this one. I. I like the lion quarterbacks. Better, but I think the Chargers have a lot more bodies. Lions still dealing with a lot of injuries and Harbaugh's the better preseason coach. I'm gonna go with the Chargers in this one.
Pat McAfee
Okay, you got the Chargers. Lions, Lions, Chargers. Super bowl champion, Green Bay Packer legend, Ohio guy, A.J. hawk. Who do you like? How you like it?
Ty Schmidt
I'll take the Lions 28, 21 on this one.
Pat McAfee
28, 21. What's over on is 33. 33 and a half. I like it. AJ didn't even know what the over under was. Took you like way over with it. D. Butch, your pick for tonight's hall of Fame game kicking off the NFL season.
Darius Butler
I'm be honest. I don't care. I don't care. We win. We win. We win because we get some football.
Pat McAfee
You don't care. One of your teams is.
Darius Butler
No, what I care about is the legends that are going into the Hall. I care about Sterling Sharp. I care about Jared Allen, I care about Eric Allen. And then I care about. You're not gonna say it. I'm gonna say the last guy.
Jared Allen
You don't know the last guy.
Ty Schmidt
You're talking Antonio Gates.
AJ Hawk
I'll be honest with you, I can't hear a thing.
Pat McAfee
That's what I was telling that they were telling me. They couldn't hear anything. I'm like, bro, Antonio Gates.
Jared Allen
Antonio Gates.
Darius Butler
The legend that have been in Shrine tonight. That's what I care about. Don't care about the outcome of the game. Like I said, don't listen.
Jared Allen
Tony.
Darius Butler
Don't bet on this game, guys. Do not battle this game. Just watch it.
Pat McAfee
Enjoy if you want.
Darius Butler
There is a number they're called on that fine print in any sportsbook app you use. But have fun tonight. We got some NFL football.
Pat McAfee
I think what dbutz is saying is very accurate of how everybody feels watching the hall of Fame game, even the Lions and the Chargers fans. With that being said, there is certainly going to be an overwhelming amount of people that watch this game. Yep. Jim Harbaugh told the boys, no big deal. Obviously, we're honoring the greats of the past. Antonio Gates is going in, representing our team, the Chargers. The hall of Fame game will outrate the World Series and the NBA Finals. So, no, no pressure. You're playing for your life. You're playing for your career. And also more people will watch you in this game than any other sport and also maybe any other game you've ever played. That's just because all we care about is football happening. Yes. And whenever you Talk about honoring the hall of Famers. It's like the amount of interviews and highlights that are going to roll tonight from football's past. It's going to be a beautiful thing. But the game does suck.
AJ Hawk
Certainly.
Jared Allen
Maybe it's not.
Ty Schmidt
It's not really a game like, to build up their.
Pat McAfee
The. It's like watching xfl.
Boston Connor
They keep it score.
Pat McAfee
I agree. I agree with that, which is why I watch. There's a guy that has a Michigan Panthers flag. Saw that right over here.
Boston Connor
The only one ever sold.
Pat McAfee
Rest in peace.
Darius Butler
No new investors.
Pat McAfee
He's the one just came into the league and. And I immediately thought to myself, that's right, it is the Pro Football hall of Fame. It's not the NFL hall of Fame. Could you imagine if a Michigan Panther made it into the Pro Football hall of Fame?
Jared Allen
Jake Bates.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. They're both.
Jared Allen
Cardell Jones.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. But he's in the NFL now.
AJ Hawk
Oh, that's a good point.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I'm saying if XFL only career.
Boston Connor
That'd be awesome.
Pat McAfee
Into the pro football. There's a chance it could happen. That's next.
Adam Schefter
Got it.
Boston Connor
Or UFL now.
Pat McAfee
You pig. I didn't know.
Ty Schmidt
NFL, ufl. I didn't know.
Boston Connor
I don't know which league that came from.
Pat McAfee
Tonight is not just about the football on the field, is what I'm saying. Yeah. It's about the whole entire thing.
Antonio Gates
Yes.
Pat McAfee
And what it symbolizes is the fact that.
Darius Butler
Let's go.
Pat McAfee
Football's back. And there's no better place to be than Canton, Ohio, in this colonial. Easy, Pop. Everybody back in the truck. Great work, boys. Great work back here. Live a nice life back there. Yeah. Yeah.
Jared Allen
I mean, you should feel my fucking shirt. Wait till it was sideways over here. It was incredible.
Pat McAfee
To the. To the people that are saying kind things right now. We appreciate you guys hanging out with us. To the production crew that was able to set this up in such limited quick time with all the elements. We appreciate the hell out of you guys. Great work. Even though we couldn't hear some things. It's water. It's technology. And we're live as hell. And hell yeah. Thank you to Almost. I don't know what this is.
Darius Butler
What do we got?
Pat McAfee
Okay, what's going on here, boss? Almost having ice cream. Almost having ice cream. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
You guys been advertising for us all.
Pat McAfee
Day, so we thought we would thank you and give you some ice cream. Okay, we appreciate that. So are you from West Virginia? No, we're from Canton, Ohio. Yeah. Hell, yeah. We had Mary Ann's Donuts. Earlier today.
Adam Schefter
So good.
Pat McAfee
Donuts are so good. This is local ice cream here. Now, how long have you guys been creamery or ice cream place? 17 years. We've been making ice cream. 17 years you've been making ice cream. This is a chocolate peanut butter cup. Cup.
AJ Hawk
Yes, sir.
Pat McAfee
This is your highest seller. What's your biggest seller?
AJ Hawk
The butter pecan is our number one seller, and we just won a gold medal in it in the LA Dairy competition.
Boston Connor
You got down there, you all.
Pat McAfee
I do not. I want a gold medal, please. And.
AJ Hawk
And the coffee caramel crunch is a.
Pat McAfee
Gold medal winner as well.
Jared Allen
Oh, the ccc.
Pat McAfee
Okay, I'm sorry. Can you tell me again how long you guys been doing this? 17 years. Nice. Congratulations to you. Are you from Canton originally? Yes, sir. How do you get into the ice cream business?
AJ Hawk
You just start one and hope for the best.
Pat McAfee
You just liked ice cream and said, you know what? I want to make my own ice cream. Yes, sir. What's your favorite? The butter pecan. My favorite chocolate.
AJ Hawk
I'm a simple person, but I would do chocolate.
Pat McAfee
Yep.
AJ Hawk
But chocolate peanut butter cup has the same ice cream.
Pat McAfee
All right. I love, love. What's your name again? Jared. Jared, we appreciate the hell out of you. Thank you for the ice cream. Thank you for the hospitality. And blue moon. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Jared Allen
Really good.
Pat McAfee
Thank you very much.
Jared Allen
Top milk.
Pat McAfee
Thank you. Thank you, guys.
Jared Allen
Thank you.
Pat McAfee
Yes.
Darius Butler
Good cows out here.
Boston Connor
I was looking for a kid to give it to.
AJ Hawk
Thank you.
Pat McAfee
Give Connor bite. Oh, that's the gold medal on those heavy. Anybody new spoon? West Virginia life is older Older than the dream Younger than the mountain Roaring like the breeze Con I belong.
AJ Hawk
My.
Pat McAfee
Mama take me home country roads now that's almost heaven okay, so I don't love the name. Okay, Got you Don't love the name, but I do love this high school.
Boston Connor
It's delightful.
Pat McAfee
This is very good. Gonna hear a lot of that. I thought about if game day was to go to West Virginia, which is week three. I think both teams need to do their shit the first couple weeks so we can make that happen. I think that would be an incredible scene. Obviously, will showcase a rivalry that hasn't been showcased in a while and deservedly needs a spotlight and attention. Two football places taking each other on in a big, big way. Luke Combs actually came out. I think he was up at Barstow, Chicago, and he was asked, hey, what rivalry doesn't get talked about enough? And he said, the backyard Brawl. Pittsburgh, West Virginia. Because I think he's been to both games in Morgantown. And in Pittsburgh for that. So if we're able to get to that, that would be great. And I thought about it last night. I was like, there's a good chance we get to that game, especially if you look at the schedule before then. And then I thought, how are they going to handle the Eat pit chance? Like the espn. Yeah. I'm very excited to fly because that'll be the entire 20, 25.
Boston Connor
Let it fly.
Pat McAfee
I think so, too. But there will be some suit back there.
Jared Allen
I think I can actually see.
Boston Connor
It's not like things are getting canceled anymore.
Jared Allen
I can see that guy's face.
Pat McAfee
He's gonna do jelly swole. Huh? Jelly swole.
Machine Gun Kelly
Oh, yeah.
Adam Schefter
Well, point Andy Hogan.
Boston Connor
And if you put jeans on, well.
Pat McAfee
If you're natural and proud of it, I guess it can certainly be taken away.
AJ Hawk
Lay off, Cindy Sweeney. I'm sick of it. Lay off.
Pat McAfee
All right, I agree.
AJ Hawk
Jesus.
Pat McAfee
It's on abc.
AJ Hawk
I know.
Pat McAfee
It was on Good Morning America. That's crazy to think about. Now, with that being said, no cars crashed?
Jared Allen
No.
Pat McAfee
I thought no lightning hit the second shot.
AJ Hawk
Nope.
Pat McAfee
We kicked off hall of Fame week in proper fashion, and we ended it with Mama's having ice cream.
AJ Hawk
Very delightful.
Pat McAfee
It's very good ice cream. If you're in Canton, have some ice cream. Come to the hall of Fame. Enjoy these people. Enjoy life. Football's back. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change their life. We're in this thing together. We'll see you guys in a while. See you guys in a while. See you around.
Darius Butler
See you around.
Jared Allen
Little bit.
Darius Butler
Love you guys.
Pat McAfee
We do love you. We'll see you in a while, though. And yes, we understand that we're taking up all of the days that we have big football season coming. It's starting tonight.
Jared Allen
Supposed to take those days.
Pat McAfee
You're the greatest people on earth for allowing us to do this for a living. We can't thank you enough. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, three. Goodbye.
Boston Connor
You've seen the headlines, heard the debates.
Pat McAfee
The three point ball has created a.
AJ Hawk
Monotonous rhythm to the game.
Boston Connor
Has the three pointer ruined basketball?
Pat McAfee
And how did we get here? The rise of the three point shot can be partially traced to an eccentric Kansas genius named Martin Manley, whose story didn't turn out quite the way he imagined.
Adam Schefter
I decided I wanted to have one.
