Pat McAfee
Hello, beautiful people, and welcome. It's great to be here. It's overreaction. Monday, August 11, 2025 this program begins now.
AJ Hawk
Football, Football.
Pat McAfee
We're off a little bit, but we had a great time. We hope you did as well. You're gonna see some tan skins, some fresh vibes, and an excited group of dudes that are able to talk about a lot of sports happening. More specifically the NFL being all the way back. Obviously, we're in the middle preseason football. There's a lot of storylines, a lot of narratives and series taking place. We'll have Adam Schefter joining us in about 15 minutes or so. Then we'll be joined by Dana White. Congrats to Dana white, UFC and TKO. They just signed a seven year, $7.7 billion deal with Paramount plus, I believe, which is a Skydance property. It's also part of CBS for all United States events basically for the next seven years. Congrats to them. That's a lot of money. That's great for sports. And also it won't be a pay per view model. So you'll just, if you're a subscriber to the Paramount plus operation, you'll just be able to all the UFC stuff. You also see all Tom Cruise's stuff. You see south park stuff. Feels like they are spending a lot of money and trying to do it differently than everybody else who obviously has these big events and then has people pay a price to do it. Like, hey, how do we get people onto our platform? Well, we have a big event, have them have to pay for it. So now they're on the platform that's kind of been this new streaming pay per view operation. This one allegedly just going to come with whatever it is. All their biggest events in the United States are going to be able to be watched just via the stream on Paramount plus if you're a subscriber. So congrats to them getting the deal done. Hopefully it works out for all parties. And we love when $7.7 billion being poured into sports as opposed to other places. Dana White will join us at about 12:40, 12:45, talk about that particular deal. And then the second hour, we'll have Dan Orlofsky. Now, the reason why we're going to have Dan Orlofsky on is because I'm sure we're in the middle of the Dan wagon train situation right now. Dan's latching that wagon to a lot of different things. The Dan wagon. He's starting to really get rolling. Can't Wait to hear his thoughts. He also ranked quarterbacks in like 14 different things. Top tens, basically. Second reaction ability, mechanics ability, arm strength stuff, situational awareness, ball placement, I. You name it. Yeah, Danielovsky's judging them. We'll talk to him about it all. And also there's one particular quarterback that's been pretty absent from all of it and he was the quarterback of the number one team in the NFC last year, the Detroit Lions. You don't see Jared Goff on any of this. Past offensive football. You don't see Jared Goff on any. He even did like mechanics, which I think is where Jared Goff was like number nine at number nine. Ball placement. Decision making. Not a game. Nope, not good enough. Is there a little bit of heat between Orlovsky and Jared Goff back in Detroit? You look a little bit too much like how I looked in that uniform. Just doing a little bit too good. Maybe a little bit of that. We'll talk to Dan about all of it. The NFL being back is great. We've been watching all the clips. Hard Knocks, obviously out there is an SEC special on Netflix. I mean, we've really taken advantage of the last week and a half to try to digest it all. But I can't wait to chit chat about it all with a great group of dudes. The talks and tables here at Boston. Connor at Tys Schmidt, Con man, new head. Hey. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Hey.
Pat McAfee
We did it.
AJ Hawk
We did it. Had extremely long hair. Was don't care now. It's just kind of long hair. I think I do care now a lot more, especially with football being back. It's incredible. Time to be alive right now. And just having it on the tv. Whether it's two minutes of good football or three minutes of good football or sometimes even no minutes of good football. It's just nice to have the football on the screen.
Pat McAfee
Really good football out of the New England Patriots off the kickoff. I think that guy got excited up there. I also like the way variables talking to people. Yeah, yeah. And ways fighting people. Yeah. I like what the New England Patriots got going on, but that's part of the story. Let's go to at Ty Schmidt. Packers look good, brother. No.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, the packers looks like hammered dog. So, you know, I know it's overreaction Monday. I. I was. I've been trying not to. I didn't want to come in here and just.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, of course. It's good day. Exactly. We're back.
Ty Schmidt
So we'll see. The one thing I am excited about, seemingly the only guy on the team who can catch because they were plagued by drops big time last year is Matthew Golden. So you know our first round draft picks looking great. Jordan Love throwing dots to guys, guys dropping them. Defense didn't look great. Bunch of penalties not good.
Pat McAfee
Preseason not good. Let's go. I'm not going over. Let's get 1/2 of the hammer down. Cowboys AP Town you talk about dropping balls. There's a running back out of Iowa that you guys go out there, we need to be handing that thing to him every single time. How do you feel about the Pittsburgh Steelers, boss?
Boston Connor
Steelers looked really, really good against the Jaguars. I mean two of the best quarterbacks in preseason so far. I believe Mason was 9 of 10 with a touchdown to Darnell Washington, which he's going to be used a ton this year in the Mount Washington watching.
Pat McAfee
Butter the Baltimore Ravens fan who exploded into everybody's algorithm because of a Lamar Jackson quote tweet retweet him watching Mount Washington do his I mean that's out of Georgia. Remember people forget about him because Brock Bowers was the tight end that was getting the ball. They just had a 6 foot 7, 320 pound guy that was able to move and jump over people and block and he's a Pittsburgh Steeler. Last year I don't think they used him as much as they should. I think if you have a guy that's 6 7, 3, 20 and they don't and your guy can move and they can't, you should definitely utilize that. I assume Marty Smith will this year. Watching Butta learn of this guy was some of the greatest interviewers that I've seen. Sometimes his face just naturally sits in a what's this? And but I appreciate it. But yes, Mount Washington real life big. I I mean there's, there's levels to this. He is a gigantic human. Vibes are high in Pittsburgh are super high.
Boston Connor
Skyler Thompson had a great game. Caleb Johnson, who you mentioned, yes, he did have a couple of drops potentially or whatever but he did.
Pat McAfee
Has he ever caught a football game?
AJ Hawk
Yeah, yeah, it's a good question.
Pat McAfee
I went to Iowa.
Ty Schmidt
Not at Iowa.
Pat McAfee
He didn't. They've never had it.
Boston Connor
They didn't throw the ball and Iowa.
Pat McAfee
Him seeing the ball go through the sky. What is.
AJ Hawk
What the hell?
Pat McAfee
When did we start?
Boston Connor
Never seen a forward pass but he broke outside on Travis Hunter just dog see you. So yeah, we're good. Vibes are real high.
Pat McAfee
Okay. So that seems to be the attitude in a lot of places. Obviously packers fans a little bit but they're doing the. Nah, it's just preseason. Nine year NFL fan, ladies and gentlemen, Darius J. Bol. Dutch. I know you're excited about this just as much as I am because preseason football brings out a lot of breath. You know, Bruh.
AJ Hawk
Bruh.
Pat McAfee
He killed it. On the flip side, Bruh, it's preseason.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
So we thought it would only be right to put together the all Bruh team. Ladies and gentlemen. Congratulations to these fine gentlemen who've been stealing headlines throughout preseason with their exquisite play in a football game that certainly will never go on the record. Nope. But we might remember forever. Now it's the All Bruh team. Strictly because, Bruh, you can fight either side of this thing. And I think it's a good thing that you play well in these situations that seemingly don't matter. Matter. But there's a lot of chatter about the captain of this year's team. Captain. No questions asked. We should have put the seat on a little bit earlier, but I just decided to put the seat on him right now because it has captivated the fifth round pick. So I think we should judge it as a 5th round pick conversation. And I don't want to hammer home the same exact topics that everybody else is talking about, but holy. The way the Shador story is going right now is phenomenal. For fodder. Yes, for fodder. For this time, for everything. But also maybe for the Cleveland Browns. Now you still get a couple of the other guys. Justin Fields comes out. He's obviously the fastest guy on the field still at all times. Congrats. Aaron Glenn in the New York jets. Maybe having an entire new world Jackson Dart. Don't look now. Wait a minute. Guy can run and he's a gunslinger. And he looks really cool.
AJ Hawk
Great eye. Black.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he looks very cool. Having a great preseason. Us, Tyler Warren.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's billing the right stuff, boys. Yeah, he's out here doing it. We don't know who the quarterback's going to be for the Indianapolis Colts, but we do know that Tyler Warren is certainly going to be getting the rock. Jared Stunham doing it yet again in another preseason. Tanner McKee. Really changing the world. Trey Lance. Holy hell. He can play football. Hell yeah. Trevjon Henderson. How you doing? Keep it moving. We're taking one to the crib. Willie Lamkin. What a dog legend. Absolute dog, this Willie Lamp.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Probably the future of the Rams. If you're a Rams fan, all you're thinking to yourself is holy hell, we got a. A 511, 290 pound center out of North Carolina who's basically AQ Shipley, but probably even a little cooler because he's fatter.
Pat McAfee
No, no, he's lighter.
AJ Hawk
Lighter.
Pat McAfee
Excuse me. Yeah, yeah, the complete opposite. He's probably a little bit quicker because he's lighter. Whenever AQ was coming out, he's 5 11, 355.
AJ Hawk
Ah, okay.
Pat McAfee
This guy's 511, 290. Remember, we've seen different.
Ty Schmidt
Different game.
Pat McAfee
We've seen the trick. Cyclical. Well, and also remember aq. I don't know about him.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, you're right.
Pat McAfee
AQ is.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Hall of Famer defeat.
Boston Connor
I think Willie might be too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I mean, we assume Lampkin will be able to pull it off. The rest of the boys obviously did an incredible. We have a kicker on the team and Cam Little, I assume there was a bunch of punters that did well. We apologize. We did not look through all the film of every punter. So shout out to all of the punters that were punting in these preseason games. You guys did great. Unless you shanked one, then you know you suck and you're not on his team.
Adam Schefter
Sure.
Pat McAfee
But if you hit a good ball, congratulations, you're on the squad. Cam little hitting that 70 yard field goal. Imbrah. It's preseason, bruh. The game doesn't matter, bruh. Snap, hold, kick, 70 yards anywhere, practice, you name it. Training camp, middle of season prep. In a game with refs and humans watching, pulling that off. Cam Little, absolute dog pal. He's Pro Football Writers association all rookie from last year out of Arkansas. A lot of moxie boys celebrated the shit out of him. Yeah. And also I love that down there in Duvall, they sent him out there for a 70 yarder at the end of half. As opposed to some coaches be like, let's just try a Hail Mary, you know, let's just try a Hail Mary. Cam Little hitting this, that means in practice he's hitting this on a pretty regular basis. That thing was beautiful. That thing was a no daughter. Congrats. Cam Little. He's on the all brought team now. What does this mean for how his season will go? Last year I think he missed two kicks. I think he was like 23 or 25 or something like that. 24 or 26. Really good. This kid might be the next one. And we'll be honored that he's a part of the All Bruh alumni.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, that's right, he will be.
Pat McAfee
Which is with the story of a lot of these guys. Okay, right now, the reason why they're on the all Bra team is because there's so much confliction on whether or not they're actually good or if the game doesn't matter, you know, because you see Shador up there. Our captain. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Captain O. Captain climbing.
Pat McAfee
Just doing everything.
AJ Hawk
Putting his head down.
Pat McAfee
Walking into the stadium. Music playing. Walking with a goddamn guy who had a staff. Cornerback Tony Brown. This guy. This guy, he has a staff with him at all times when he's not playing ball. I love it. I watched the movie Jungle of Jungle when I was a kid. Tim Allen had a child with another lady.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
End up in a jungle. That kid comes in because lives in.
Ty Schmidt
The city and he's dressed like how.
Pat McAfee
This guy dresses, right? Yeah. I saw him walk onto the practice. There he is. This is Jungle of the Jungle. I watched this movie. Tim Allen. It's an unbelievable thing. If this guy's playing for him and Shador's playing for him and they still got Miles.
Boston Connor
Don't forget Jerry Judy, our favorite player.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
One best players in the league.
Pat McAfee
He's on the Albright team. Will be forever. Are the Cleveland Browns a real deal or is this just a preseason game? D butts and the fact that Shadora was damn near perfect. Had two touchdowns, had dance, had Nike ad immediately afterwards. Had the world talking. It doesn't matter because it's preseason or is this a sign of things to come? D bugs.
Darius Butler
I mean definitely had the world talking. NFL probably tweeted him out in every clip about 30, 40 times when he was playing. So yeah, everybody's watching. There's been a lot of conversation about him since he dropped in the draft. And yeah, the question always depend on regardless of which side of the argument you're on, you're going to stay on that side. Oh, he played great. It's just a preseason. Oh, he stunk. Oh, I told you he was going to stink. So. But he showed up. All the pressure was on him. All the lights was on him. But let's get to the tape. Preseason games are pretty much glorified practices. But just like little with that long field goal, when you have live reps that you really never have with quarterbacks. Pressure on them. That's why it counts. So look rolling out right here to his left. Step up. This is the play you see week in and week out. NFL reset his feet as a right handed quarterback stuff. Flip your hips and then you make an accurate throw over the low flat defender. Accurately to that tight end who wins the leverage late against the cornerback. Great throw. Great Ball placement. That's what you want to see out of your rookie quarterback. He was a fifth round pick. We all know he shouldn't have been, but he's showing up and taking advantage of his opportunity. A lot of people talked about, hey, he's getting in there, he's getting set up for failure. Nah. In the NFL, regardless of where you.
Pat McAfee
Drafted, what was all that talk?
Boston Connor
I mean, well, he didn't have any reps with the first team and they would have thrown him out there, so.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but the first team wasn't going to be on the field. Yeah, well, that's not how so if you're not getting reps with the first team, the first team's not going to be on the field. That shouldn't affect what you're happening. But like, I do appreciate that everybody was kind of going to bat form before the game was even played, like, kind of, because that is the reality of the situation. Like there's some quarterbacks that are going to look like because they don't have an offensive line block form or they don't have any wide receivers that know the goddamn routes. So you can definitely set a precedent. I didn't like that. They were just like, oh, they're throwing, he's getting screwed basically for starting in this game. I thought that was very interesting take. So I was very appreciative of the fact that he went out there and played well and that didn't end up being the thing because I was like, you know, this is what we want to see, right? Don't we want to see him? Yeah.
Darius Butler
And every time, and every time we heard him talk, every time you hear him talk, all he talks about is just being thankful for the opportunity. And that's what you want as a player. You just want the opportunity. So score. All the other stuff that regardless of when that comes, we all hear as athletes, the Wiley Pip story, and as a quarterback, as any type of player, you never want somebody taking those reps. Now, preseason is a little different ball game, but I'm glad he took advantage of it. Our second play we got here, which we all saw, once again stepping up, once again a live rep. So you got pressure in your face. This is what you're going to have to do as a quarterback in NFL. Step up in dirty pockets, pressure in your face, stare them down, keep your eyes down the field and make an accurate throw. Most of these dig balls, you want one to two yards right outside the dig, right outside the hash marks. He put that ball right on him with two Guys in his face. Exactly what you want to see from quarterback, especially young quarterbacks.
Boston Connor
There is one thing he learned at Colorado and Pat talked about this a lot the last couple years. It's how to throw with dudes in his face. Because he was the most pressured quarterback in Colorado and he was tough as shit.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Also he. Yeah. Flexed on him after. I've never some blindside shots where he's fully exposed at Colorado and he steps in the throw dime and then ear hole in 20, 24, no penalty somehow because he's outside the pocket and everything like that. And then he's literally up celebrating with the guy he just threw the touchdown to. It's like that type of toughness is real and you can't teach it, I don't think.
Darius Butler
And that'll probably be the biggest area for improvement for him. He did take a couple sacks, I think on third down. You know, extending plays, running back, you can't really do that in the league. Guys are too fast, too physical. But he learned from it. And something he showed too was more of his athleticism being able to run the ball, break the pocket. In this next clip, you'll see him actually break the pocket. This was pressure from his right side. DM puts the pressure on, he squeezes out to the right once again, guy in his face. Accurate throw over the top, great one handed catch. But that's exactly when you want to put that ball. If you're a quarterback with the guy you always hear in the meet rooms, if you're a D lineman, you're rushing the quarterback. Get that left up, you throw it over the top. Great raindrop ball to the receiver. Unfortunately pulled his hammy. I think we got some bad news with him.
Pat McAfee
He's been released by the Cleveland Browns. But he'll be out two to three weeks. He's not getting surgery. Grade two something.
Darius Butler
Hopefully gets another opportunity somewhere. But it's. It's a tough time.
Boston Connor
He could have been on the Albruh.
Darius Butler
It's a tough time.
AJ Hawk
He's on the sorry bruh team.
Pat McAfee
No, no. But he's not sorry bro. Which I guess is a part of the.
AJ Hawk
Our team.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, that's a part of the whole bro.
AJ Hawk
The I'm sorry team.
Pat McAfee
Bro. We're. We're sorry.
AJ Hawk
We're sorry.
Pat McAfee
We're sorry bro.
Darius Butler
First team and then his last game.
Pat McAfee
He's gonna get picked.
AJ Hawk
He's captain the first team.
Darius Butler
I hope so.
Pat McAfee
I think he is actually.
AJ Hawk
I think he's probably the captain. Browns are producing captains right now at.
Darius Butler
A high Club, Uh oh, preseason football.
Pat McAfee
Uh oh AFC Northern.
Darius Butler
This last clip in the rear there, his second touchdown of the game. Once again, trust in his protector. You'll see the back scan across, pick him up, step up in the pocket, reset the feet and make an accurate throw across the middle. It's going to be little tighter windows on Sundays when the game matters. But once again, this is is what you want to see from your quarterback. Getting actual live reps with a bunch of guys you probably didn't have a bunch of reps with, that is important. You know, people made a big story out of it, but you never know when you're going to get the opportunity. Even as a db. Like you weren't as comfortable going into games if you didn't take reps with a nickel or a corner or safety or linebackers that you've been communicating with and getting those things pre snap and post snap. So that is a big thing. But I loved everything I saw from, you know, really all the young quarterbacks. Holly Shuck Mason, good throws. Cam Ward, who's not getting talked about much as a number one pick, he made some good throws. Jackson Dark, you mentioned him, he made some good throws. But I think the most, the brightest light was definitely on Shador Sanders and he stepped up.
Pat McAfee
Absolutely a lot of eyes on that game strictly because Shador is there. So for as much as the people that don't like it, they're all watching. Yeah, he's got a Floyd Mayweather appeal right now. The people that they don't like. Yeah, the people that don't like him now for us that are big time Coach prime fans. Hey, back by the way. Yeah. Did you see him on Nephew? Oh yeah, yeah. Back where he's supposed to be. And I enjoy Shador and the way he's handled it all, you know, and the whole family, the way they operate. So for me to see him go out and do well, I think was cool. Yeah, I think it was very cool. Now bruh, we do have to keep everything in perspective here. Okay.
Darius Butler
Appreciate it.
Pat McAfee
And that's why we got a couple more preseason games left.
AJ Hawk
That's right.
Pat McAfee
And we will overreact to all of them. Hell yeah. Every single time. And then the real season will come around and guess what will happen. Go. None of that matter. You remember what Kenny Pickett did in 2023. That's why he's on the bottom right corner of this particular draft, the all brought team. Because let's not get captivated here, okay? This can go away. Where he ends up Being a Super bowl champion for another team.
AJ Hawk
Sure that.
Pat McAfee
So you have a great preseason. There's a chance that it doesn't go great with your team, but you could go on to win super bowl somewhere else. So that's what all the all brought team members need to look forward to after week one. For most of these.
Boston Connor
Never forget Kenny. 13 of 15, 200 yards, five straight touchdown drives to start that season.
Pat McAfee
You remember that tone came in here.
AJ Hawk
Steals were back, seven's back on.
Pat McAfee
It's not. Yeah, exactly. It's not even just Kenny Picket. I think it was just the entire offense as a whole. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz you know, and then the season happened, if you recall. Worst offense in the history of NFL football. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
That's when Deontay Johnson exploded.
Pat McAfee
It was the worst in the history of football. They were chaining to fire the offensive coordinator in Utah and youth. Utah, the country. Yeah. James State of Utah.
AJ Hawk
Jmu.
Ty Schmidt
Dag's dressed up like the devil on Halloween as mat Canada. I mean, that's how bad it was.
Pat McAfee
Some of my best. But in 2023, in that preseason, they were. You guys were winning the circle. So let's not get too excited, but let's not get too low, but let's make sure we celebrate those who are doing well because it's better than doing ass. So congratulations to the boys. Congrats, bro. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a senior NFL insider for esp, front of the program, Michigan man. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm Shafty. What's up, brother?
Adam Schefter
Hello, everybody.
Pat McAfee
How are we doing?
Adam Schefter
I'm on the drive to Bristol, so hopefully we don't hit any bad wi fi zones, but bear with me and hopefully we can make it through uninterrupted.
Pat McAfee
It's okay. That's the home of sports coverage, you know, up there in Bristol, Connecticut. I put a good tweet out about that place during the break, had a lot of action. Tell those people I said hello up there. Now on that note, you've been in this game a long time. Long time. How many preseasons is this? Do you remember?
Adam Schefter
I've covered the league for over 35 years, so it'd be my 35th or sixth preseason.
Pat McAfee
Okay. The Shador hype, how. How regulars is this? Like once every 10 years something like this happens? Like how often do you think this type of situation? Especially because he's delivering. Yeah, he delivered in a big way. And he said. He has said everything. Right. He went to. He went to Cleveland early to go be in the community. Fifth round Pick of this team. Now, granted, the people that hate him say all this is bullshit, but the people that support him and think like, hey, maybe there's a chance here are like, hey, keep going. What are your thoughts on it? And how regular of a situation is this over your 35 years?
Adam Schefter
No, I think there are always players that get your attention in the preseason. But again, very rarely have we ever seen a player who was projected to be a first round pick or a high pick fall to the fifth round and play quarterback and go through everything that Chador went through the first couple nights of the draft. I remember Friday night, Pat, as the third round was coming to a close. The number of texts that I got from people in other communities like acting, music, other sport, it was crazy. The amount of people that were interested in why he slid to where he did and he wound up going in the fifth round. So there was a ton of attention. It carries over to the preseason. And I could just think of certain quarterbacks at certain times that flashed and popped in the preseason the way that she door did on Friday night. Now, again, I want to be very clear. One game, One game. So we'll see. But you couldn't help watch that one game and not be impressed by what he did that night. He threw the ball really well. He was accurate, he was composed, he was poised. It was all the things that you want to see. And I think that's what you're looking for right away is guys show right away, it's not too big for them. They belong, they can play. Or it is too big for him and they can't play and they don't belong. And Shador looked like he belonged. And so, yeah, I mean, again, when I think back on quarterbacks in the preseason, Russell Wilson in 2012, right away, and that was an off season in which the Seahawks paid a lot of money for Matt Flynn as a free agent quarterback and they traded for Charlie Whitehurst. And I think back to when the Cowboys drafted Dak Prescott and then he came on and lit it up in the preseason, played exceptionally well. And you could just watch those guys right away and say, they got it, they got it. And that's the way for one game it looked for Shador. But you know what? The one game now leads to conversations about how much time he's going to get in the second game. And because now you have to take a longer look, now we got to see, okay, well, what, what was this about is, did we all miss on this guy in the draft? Did he fall farther than he should have. Was everybody right about him and the teams were wrong? Like he had so many fans who thought he should go so high, yet Mel Kaipur thought he should go so high. And he goes to the fifth round. And now and again I want to emphasize one game, but it was a great start.
Pat McAfee
It was a great start and my entire thing has led to. He could have played like ass. Yeah. And he didn't. He played great. So it's like, how do we judge? We can only judge off what we see now. Who he's playing against, who he's playing with. Not NFL. Okay. That's not the NFL.
Adam Schefter
Irrelevant.
Pat McAfee
No, no, no. But I would like to say this though. I'd like to say this. We have to remember he's fifth round pick. Okay? That's how the teams are going to view him. That's how Cleveland's going to view him because they invested that in him. So when you talk about playing in the preseason, it's like you're talking about how much time like this is when 5th round picks would be. I mean this is their time, this is their shot. So any opportunity to get on the field I think is great. Even if he's not with guys that he's familiar with, this is the NFL. This is what preseason is for. Hopefully he'll continue to go. Now preseason also devastating for some teams. Every single year injuries happen. These injuries take place and all of a sudden before the season even begins, we didn't have a chance to have our full roster, especially with all of our talent. Left tackle for the Chargers, obviously sad. I mean, absolutely devastating situation. Happy he got paid. And once again, this is why people look for deals as opposed to getting franchise tagged and everything like that. Because you never know what's going to happen in a sport that is so combative and physical. Now Matthew stafford, I think McVay and everybody said he's going to be okay. Landon Dickerson, heartbreaker over there in Philly, got carted out. Obviously that offensive line, they are what they are. Lucas Matt, Rondell Moore, Anthony Najee. Is there anything else we should be looking at and how, how would you classify these injuries if you just kind of want to go through the list yourself?
Adam Schefter
Well, first of all, in Alexander Madison, the Dolphins running back goes down yesterday in the game against the Bears, neck injury, gets taken by ambulance to a local hospital in Chicago where he proceeds to go undergo season ending neck surgery. So you can add Alexander Madison to that list. Was a terrible injury, unfortunate. And I think they got a good prognosis from the surgery to where they think he'll be able to play again next year. But Rashawn Slater, he becomes the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history on July 27 and then a mere 10 or so days later basically ruptures his patella tendon and needs surgery and he's out for the year. Matthew Stafford's been dealing with a back, but the rams really look 36 years old. Back quarterback going to take hits. Backs seem to get better, but I think he's going to be okay. I was in their building last week and they're, I mean, if they had a game right now, today, Matthew Stafford is playing okay. So they're trying to maintain him and make sure that, that he's going to be as healthy as he can be when the season opens. Landon Dickerson's having an MRI on his knee today. We'll see what comes back there. He's been a warrior in the NFL level, has not missed any time, but has a history of knee injuries in college that led to him falling into the second round. Lucas Niang, out for the year. Matt Hennigan, torn Achilles, Rondell Price, knee injury, sounds like the season's over. Anthony Richardson, dealing with the pinky issue, which isn't long term. And Najee Harris there. You didn't include Dion Busch, the chief safety who ruptured his Achilles chase on Saturday night. Like there. The. The Ravens have lost some rookie cornerbacks to knee injuries. Listen, it's the worst part of the preseason. Inevitably, guys come back and these guys are so big and so strong and so fast.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, of course. I agree.
Adam Schefter
Some of these injuries, unfortunately, are inevitable. And to your point, to your point, though, this is why, like, if I'm Micah Parsons or Trey hendrickson or Terry McClure, you got to be really careful. Like one practice. One practice.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You need to remember that.
Adam Schefter
Millions.
Pat McAfee
You need to remember that whenever you're reporting your inside information from the teams, they've offered everything they possibly could to Trey Hendrickson. He needs to. He needs to do that. And it's like you get shown these stats, you know, like, hey, there's a chance tomorrow you go out there, one dip and rip and your elbow, shoulder, knee and ankle. I'll just give up. How about old buddy from the Ravens?
Ty Schmidt
Was that Mike Green?
Pat McAfee
Oh, my. That is what they are talking about whenever they talk about going around the edge. So that's scary stuff. It's no fun. It seems to happen every single preseason. Also, another injury not on there. Go ahead.
Darius Butler
Jerry Jones mentioned it. Obviously that's why he was kind of weird of paying guys. But speaking of Jerry Jones, his guy got it wasn't on that list. And those are serious injuries. T's and peas. Have we got an update on CD Lamb? We saw him take a hell of a shot on the sideline the Cowboys preseason game. Any update on cd?
Adam Schefter
Well, he got penalized on this play, which was one of the craziest highlights of the weekend. He has his hands up, the official collides. CD Lamb goes down. It was the hardest hit he took all game and he got. He got penalized on the play. The league is reviewing it to see if there will be a fine that's necessary, which would obviously add insult to injury or money to injury. And fortunately, he's okay. Look, everybody's laughing and hugging him, but you get hit like that. I know it's just an official, but you're not expecting it.
Pat McAfee
Who knows what happened. To be clear, low man does win all the time. And that official had pretty good. He did perform. Yeah, he showed up at training camp looking. Looking good, feeling good about the year. Cd. Oh, that would suck so bad.
Adam Schefter
Rewind it again. Like, explain to me. You guys are football guys. Like, what is he celebrating?
Pat McAfee
Like, this guy's wide open. What do you think, Chef?
Adam Schefter
Wide open. Yeah. Okay, but did they. Did they complete the best? Did they score?
Pat McAfee
No, no. But Chef, he's celebrating his boy. This is the wide receiver room and he's literally pointing at him saying, hey, we got him, we got him, we got him.
Darius Butler
Probably. Probably knew the call, knew it was going to be a double.
Pat McAfee
Moves in a nutshell. See, that's him scoring a touchdown. If this is called in the regular season, that is. He knew the call, knew the, knew the coverage, knew everything. Hey, this is going to be this guy, right? And it is.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, knew it.
Pat McAfee
Touchdown. And the ref's like outfielder running for a home run.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, right. Right into the wall with.
Pat McAfee
No, I mean, his whole face is on CDs back.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. And he's got a stiff chest when he's running, too.
Pat McAfee
I mean, that's great posture, great belt.
Darius Butler
Technique by the ref, but we always get told on that sideline, regardless of what level of football, but especially NFL. Get back, stay off the white. Usually a get back coach or someone. Ceedee knows. I mean, he's used to being on the field, obviously, but he knows I'm sure he'll get it talking to. If that was a player a little lower in the roster, it'd be a bigger deal, but they'll probably find him. Just to make it a bigger statement across the league because that is a big deal for refs to do their job.
Pat McAfee
Did the ref finish the game, Chef?
Adam Schefter
Of course, yeah. Oh, yeah, He's. He's. He's probable for this week. He'll be back for preseason week two.
Darius Butler
Oh, dude, he's been all bro.
Pat McAfee
All right, let's talk. Let's talk a little bit more about one. He should be. Hey, that ref. Yeah, he's the official. Official of the All Bra team, bruh. You're running really fast, bruh. A little awareness, ref. Hope you're all right, ref.
Darius Butler
Good work, bruh.
Pat McAfee
Good work, bruh. Great work, bruh. Go ahead, Tone.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Shefty.
Boston Connor
I wanted to ask about another player in Dallas, one that we also did not see on the field. Micah Parsons. He did a. Thank you. Dallas situation where he put out.
Pat McAfee
It was a.
Boston Connor
It's a. It was a long note section. Are we anywhere new on the Jerry and Micah and getting a new contract. Is he going to be there week one? Do we know?
Pat McAfee
See also, can I quickly. Micah, when we screenshot that, we can't be repeating sentences. You can edit that thing, screenshot it, put it down so then we don't have to go back through. And I read this thing four times anyways. But Micah, I appreciate you getting your thoughts out there and I like that you use your notes section. I also use notes section. This is wonderfully put together. And I think you thanked everybody. But I was not happy about the. Micah, you got your own show. You got a big brain. You're a smart guy. You get the biz. You just crop it down. Come on. Message still going across the chef. Yeah, I read it four times. It was a lot. A lot of words you didn't read. I did. I read it twice. Deb, you read it. No. That's why you don't know what I'm saying. So, like, the end of this sentence is not the beginning of the next picture.
Ty Schmidt
Like, find it and then go three sentences back.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, hey, picture one. We should just have a thing. Picture two, page two. We're going to new stuff. You know what I mean?
Darius Butler
Agree.
Pat McAfee
I'm OG Notes. Screenshot sender.
Darius Butler
Yeah, og I'm new school. Just chat. Gbt. Summarize this in three sentences.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. See, that's not good. That's not good.
Darius Butler
Not reading it.
Pat McAfee
Have you seen the brain memes about the chat GPT people?
Darius Butler
I don't believe.
AJ Hawk
And the studies I like Did Chat.
Pat McAfee
GPT tell you to say that? Maybe. Let me ask. Chat GPT with. My thoughts are on how chat GPT is affected by.
Boston Connor
Very nice.
Pat McAfee
Anyways, go ahead, Shefty. Sorry, buddy. We ruined all that.
Adam Schefter
Patrick. Micah. I, I think it's unbelievable that that statement came out about 10 days ago. And since that statement came out, there have been zero contract talks between the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons. That you would think that something like that would trigger some conversation to get everybody, all sides in one room to try to get a deal done. And in fact, it feels like it's done the opposite. It feels like Micah is disappointed and bothered by the way the Cowboys are have done their business. It feels like the Cowboys are bothered and disappointed that Micah would make his feelings known like that. As for a trade, Jerry Jones felt like he had a deal in place with Micah that that isn't going to get done right now. And now all of a sudden, there are a whole host of new issues that we have to ask if these two sides are unwilling to talk, which has been the case and unwilling to negotiate. So, okay, now we got Micah Parsons who says he has back tightness and he's not practicing.
Pat McAfee
Oh, classic back. You remember the hamstring in the NBA? That's a good one.
Adam Schefter
You know, I, I, I'll bet you back tightness can linger for a long time. And back tightness, yeah, usually lingers when contract negotiations usually are not progressing. So the Cowboys open their regular season three weeks from Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. And Jerry Jones himself has said that he doesn't know and may not expect Micah to play in that opening game against the Eagles. And so now they're making no progress. They're not talking about a new deal. And unless things change, you have to wonder where this is going. The Cowboys have said, Jay Z never called me back. They're not interested in trading them. They're not. That's what they say. But at some point in time, if you're not going to sign the guy, then you're going to move the guy. There's two choices. Sign him or trade them. And right now they're not talking contract. He's got a tight back, and so who knows where this is.
Pat McAfee
Hey, my question for you, Schefter, with all this in the tight back, obviously we hope he's okay. He's a special talent on the football field. We would hope to watch him all year. But if that back does get a little bit better, if you sleep on a pile of money. We also have seen this in the past, in this entire thing, as your connection goes unstable in this entirety. Jerry Jones said, Jay Z. Is this real? I've been seeing a lot of quotes about him dealing with Jay Z with Roc Nation agency back in the day. Oh, Jerry, Jerry, like, Jerry didn't negotiate deals with agents. Why does this continue to be talked about as if this is like his thing? Like. Yeah, I don't talk to the agents. Like, how have you got every. Everybody represents himself that plays for the Cowboys.
Adam Schefter
Yeah. No, no, no. I think, I think over time Jerry has had a history of doing some of his biggest deals with some of his most well known players. Exactly. A handshake bat. He gets them and he's talking to him. And in this particular case, Jerry felt like he had a deal.
Pat McAfee
But.
Adam Schefter
But Micah and his agent never felt like there was a deal. There was no paper, there's no contract, there's no. Nothing that was presented.
Pat McAfee
Jerry feels like he was wronged. Yeah.
Adam Schefter
So there's two. There's two different interpretations. Two different interpretations of the events that went on in the discussions between Jerry and Micah. The bottom line is they're nowhere right now. And it feels like the state of the relationship has gotten worse. And again, it's going to be really interesting to see how tight Micah's back is on opening night.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I hope we see Micah. I hope they get a deal done. I'm going to say this for how good of a player Micah has been with being a first round pick for the Dallas Cowboys with the night he gets drafted, saying he dreamt of being a Dallas Cowboy and all that. For him to go into his fifth year of his rookie contract without a new deal is abnormal. Not just for like Dallas Cowboys was, I think just for that position, that player. For any team, first rounder, for you to hit like you hit and not get a deal done going into the fifth round, very ab. Going into the fourth year. Abnormal. Yeah. Going into the fifth year, which is the bonus year that they had to tag on top of, let alone two franchise tag years. We got ahead of this. Very abnormal. This is a very weird situation in my eyes. And Jerry, you know, he's got a documentary coming out here in about eight days. That's right. The Gambler and the Cowboys. America's Team. August 19, 2025. I wonder if the last chapter would be him and Mike. Micah doesn't know. I had him mic'd up. We were talking. We were talking to one of my rooms. We agreed to a deal. You say we didn't agree it's right here. It's in the documentary America's Team Shook Hands. Game learning. Campbell old school. So he feels like he was wronged, is what you're saying. Like, business wise, he feels like he was bamboozled by Micah. Is that. Is that kind of the thought? Because if that is the case, I think Jerry's type of guy who will be.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. Fuck this. Is that accurate? Is that how this is being. And we lose it. That's a big piece of information here. This is a big piece of information.
Darius Butler
That's why I understand. Maybe he's done that in the past. But if you are Micah and you're playing this position, this is a position that Miles Garrett reset it. TJ Watt just jumped him and you're right in line. Like you said, he's done everything right from day one. Even last year, like he was battling through some injury. Injuries when he could have easily set out, you know, looking forward to getting his contract done. And when you're Mic and you have one of the best agents in the game representing you, it would be, like, terrible for you. And I'm sure that PA wouldn't want him to do this any. Anyway, to represent yourself in these negotiations. Oh, let me shake my head. Let me shake your hand, because this is how you've done it. That's. That's ridiculous. It's too much money at stake for Micah to do. And Jerry, he can do it. He's going to be around for, you know, his business is going to be there forever in his family. But Micah, he done the right thing. Get your business done. Right.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And also, I'm okay with deals getting done via handshake, just for future reference, but got to hammer out all the details on paper. Yeah, I mean, that is. Yeah, that is legitimately how it all works. Hey, Shafter, we're kind of hypothesizing about the entire situation here. So Jerry believes. And let me get this. Probably already been reported, so I apologize. We're on beach. Yeah, exactly. Somewhere on the beach. New baby. She's awesome. All day long, Jerry feels wronged by Micah because they had a handshake deal that Micah then reneged on in this entire thing. That's how he views it.
Adam Schefter
I think Jerry feels like they had the makings of a deal, if not an agreement in place. He talked to replace reporters last week about the fact that when he bought the Cowboys, it was a handshake deal. That's what he said. And he's done a lot of handshake Deals over time and again, Micah feels like he never saw a contract, never agreed to anything, his agent never signed off on anything. And so there are a whole host of issues there. And again, you mentioned Mike is draft class. If you look it up, look at all the players around him and in front of him that have already been paid. Any good player in front of him, from Ja' Marr Chase to Devonta Smith to Penny Sewell to certain most of those JC Horn, Sir Tan, they've all been paid already, and Micah has not been. And so he's watching his draft class all get paid. He's watching the top pass rushers across the league, whether it's Max Crosby, Daniel Hunter, Miles, TJ Watt, all get paid. And he's not. Not only is he paid, his own team is not even talking to him, and he feels insulted by what they've said about him in the summer. So again, I just. There's a situation that's gone the opposite direction, and they're further apart from a deal today than they were in, let's just say March or early April.
AJ Hawk
Jeez.
Pat McAfee
So he was 12th overall in that particular draft. If you were not just take against his draft class, who all got paid. I think if you were to take him, his stats, his draft thing, and also saying, I dreamt of being on this team on draft night and put them into their, like the. The simulation. Everybody's getting paid on their fourth year. Everybody.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Micah needs to go back into his office, though. Brother Micah, you need to go back in there. You got to do one of these things. I think if you want to get a deal done, I think that's what you're probably gonna have to do. Just after watching Jerry and Landman. Yeah. You know, it feels like that, especially the way he talks about it. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, because people can forget how a handshake's supposed to go, too. You know, some people can have one view of what a handshake deal looks like, and the others have another view of what the handshake deal actually is. And then whenever it gets put on paper, it's like, wait a minute, we didn't talk about this particular thing. And then you can get pretty offended. So I think you should go back in there and shake his hand. But I also think he should have been paid already. And I'm also starting to think Jerry maybe, like, maybe that thing used to go 96. I think we're throwing BP maybe 88. Yeah, I think we might be throwing all Of a sudden, yeah, I'll watch the gambler and the Cowboys for sure. But I mean, there's a chance. Okay, let's talk about somebody else that maybe, I don't know. If he won't get paid before his fifth year, will the fifth year even happen?
AJ Hawk
Yeah, that's a good question.
Pat McAfee
We're talking about super hype.
Darius Butler
Okay?
Pat McAfee
A lot of hype. Most hype that I've heard in some time.
AJ Hawk
Generational hype.
Pat McAfee
Comment?
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Schefter. Obviously a lot of the quarterbacks play. Not all of the quarterbacks play, but the biggest ones, you know, Mahomes, Burrow, some other guys. Also Caleb Williams, kind of in that category of dudes you would expect to see in preseason Week one, new offense, the whole nine. With Ben Johnson, we don't see any Caleb Williams. Instead, some speculation on the Internet is claiming that he did not play because he does not know how to run Ben Johnson's offense yet. Is that the case and how closely should we be looking at Chicago as a spot? That's not a proven year for the quarterback, but definitely a pivotal year in his organization, organizational kind of tenure for Chicago.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Adam Schefter
Well, I think what happened here is that the Dolphins got to Chicago last week on Wednesday and they had intra squad scrimmages where coaches can control that. And Caleb got plenty of work against the Dolphins. And so if you're not going to stick out your regulars and you're not going to stick your first team offensive line in, oftentimes you don't want to stick your quarterback in there.
Pat McAfee
Amen.
Adam Schefter
And I think Ben, Ben Johnson felt like Caleb got to work in a controlled environment that he needed to. Now, I will say this. It's a little odd that in the same game Tuatanga Bailoa is out there playing in a preseason game and Caleb Williams is not. Joe Burrow, who hasn't played in a preseason ever, is out there this weekend and Caleb Williams, who's learning a new offense is not. So it seems a little odd in that sense, but I'm just telling you that their thinking was that Caleb got to go against the Dolphins in practice all week long in a controlled setting where he gets to wear a jersey where he's not subjected to it, and they got the work that they felt they needed to get in with him during the course of last week without having to put him out there Sunday and risking injury behind a backup offensive line.
Pat McAfee
All right, I, I respect that move. I, I do. And I respect the way Ben Johnson, that guy's back with the Chargers can't wait to see what he does. I respect that Ben Johnson is trying to change the culture there too. Seemingly a little bit more accountability driven, a little bit more hard nose, a little bit more of a hard ass. Feels like he got juiced up. I think there was a fourth and goal stop that they had. He's out on the field flexing. I think Miami got them back later with a fourth and goal stop as well on the other side. It was good jousts between these. I, I will say there were some moments in there. The Caleb Schizz. There he is. There's the actual flex. I was talking about the Caleb scheme stuff on the Internet is loud. Should it be? What are, what are you hearing out of out of Chicago? Like he talked. I'm sorry. Conor talked about it being maybe a prove it year. Sean Payton goes into Denver as your mid blink there. I know. Take it all in. He goes out to Denver and has the capability basically to move on from Russell Wilson if it doesn't work out. Ben Johnson went there because of Caleb. He's there to make Caleb good. What is the pressure on Caleb this year and what is the reality of the situation currently?
Adam Schefter
I think that there's pressure on every quarterback every year and they did everything to uplift Caleb this year from hiring the head coach to all the moves that they made. They went out and traded for two offensive linemen, they signed another. They signed Drew Dahlman free agency. They trade for Jonah Jackson, they trade for Joe Tuning, they hire a coach to elevate Caleb. This is all designed to make sure that Caleb Williams is a massive success because that's the type of talent that he has. So yeah, of course there's pressure on him because everything they've done has been geared to making him better. So it's up to him now. If this season went on and he didn't play well, well, that pressure is going to only rise next year. It's going to get ratcheted up. But I think there's pressure on all these guys every year. Everybody's watching to see how it goes and this organization I think is giving him everything that he could want to play to the best of his abilities.
Pat McAfee
Come on Caleb. We can't wait to watch. There's some Caleb shit that he can do that nobody else could do and we're excited to watch it. Hopefully all come to fruition. Last question here is we have Mr. Dana White joining us in about a minute and a half.
Ty Schmidt
Shefty, where do we stand on the Colts QB Battle. It seemed like going into their first game against the Ravens, the tide had kind of turned. And Anthony Richardson, everyone talked about how good he had looked, you know, new body, all that kind of stuff.
Pat McAfee
Stuff.
Ty Schmidt
And then very early on, he gets smacked in the teeth real hard, dislocates his pinky. Shane Steichen did mention today that he's full going practice today. He's good. He's going to play on Saturday against the packers, although Danny Dimes will start. What are you hearing about this battle? Because going into the game, it certainly did seem like it was Anthony Richardson's job to lose.
Adam Schefter
Well, it did. And now it still seems like it's a battle that hasn't been decided, and it still feels like a battle that's going to play itself out here in the final couple of weeks of the preseason. I don't think the Colts sound ready to make a decision just yet. And Anthony Richardson obviously needs to do a better job at picking up, but seeing things, recognizing certain situations and most important, whether it was or wasn't his fault, staying healthy, like, I know it's not his fault. This guy comes around, he doesn't respond quick enough. Somebody missed him, whatever it may be. But it's another injury. Fortunately, it was not more severe. He's able to bounce back. But I don't think this team has decided who its quarterback is going to be yet. I think the job is there to be one still, and one of these guys is going to have to go out and win it. The next couple of weeks saw a.
Pat McAfee
Lot of quarterbacks say, hey, you got to know that that's coming. But then also I saw a lot of people who are fans of the game say, no, that showed a guy you should have been blocked. So, I mean, there's a lot of. A lot of congestion about it or whatever, conjecture about it. All I know is he's still playing. That's a big shot. Yeah, yeah, that was a very big shot.
Darius Butler
Luck taking a shot almost exactly like that in the actual game. But yeah, I mean, who knows who was on, looks like. Yeah, who knows who was on, but yeah, you got to stay healthy. You know, your ability is the best availability.
Pat McAfee
We're still believe ours, brother. All right. We appreciate safe travels, ladies and gentlemen. I'm shefter like Danny Dimes, too. It's not get crazy. I've seen some highlights out of Danny Dimes look pretty good. I mean, if you think about a guy who's 14, 16 years old, how old is Anthony Richardson?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, 23, 21.
Pat McAfee
Years old, 22, whatever it is. Still got all the town in the world. Like his prep before practices.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Don't love that he got an injury early because that kind of adds to this guy's always hurt. Dislocated pinky. We move along.
Darius Butler
But, yeah, you got it.
AJ Hawk
You got an all bro player, so who even cares? And A.D. mitchell, I mean, all the highlights coming out of him are incredible.
Pat McAfee
Speaking of highlights, how about seven years, $7.7 billion. Ladies and gentlemen, the man who I don't know his official title, we just assume runs UFC President, CEO, Super Duper Boss. A man who was smoking a cigar in his IG story today saying, it's going to be a good day. You're damn right. Ladies and gentlemen, Dana White. Yeah. Congratulations.
Dana White
Thank you, buddy. Appreciate it.
Pat McAfee
No problem. I like the TKO group shirts. Hey, I like what we're doing here. Okay. Obviously, WWE gets massive deal done with espn. UFC gets huge deal done here with Paramount plus and Skydance. I believe it's psky is their particular public trading thing. How's this come together, Dana? This is a huge swing by Paramount to get into sports full time. How pumped were you that they were a part of this? And. And, you know, is this where you thought you were going to end up at, like a month ago?
Dana White
I agree with everything you just said. Yes. You know, we've been going through the process. No, I didn't think this is where we would end up, but this is sort of how it played out. I love it. These guys are obviously very smart guys, very aggressive. And when you think about streaming, right? Streaming is incredible. You know, when they drop a great show problem with the whole services, I can watch it tonight or I can watch it two years from now. Live sports is going to be a big deal, you know, with all these streaming services, and, you know, we're going to play a big part in it. And when you look at. When you look at Paramount plus, right, this new deal that we're going into, you get to watch all the UFC programming on there. No pay per View anymore. You know, it's $13 or whatever it is, and you get everything. Plus these guys have South Park, Yellowstone. I've been talking about Mobland now.
AJ Hawk
Unreal.
Pat McAfee
Tom Cruise. They got Tom Cruise. Just all of Tom Cruise as well, brother Pulsa King.
Dana White
I mean, the list goes on and on of all the content that they have, great shows. So now you get, you know, all the UFC content, plus, you know, all this other great content to TV shows, and they have much bigger Plans ahead and we are very aligned with them. And I'm excited to be in business with the Ellisons.
Pat McAfee
We're very excited that they're getting into sports in the way that they are. You know, dad Larry, I believe he paid what, a hundred million dollars for that kid to go play quarterback in Michigan? They're going to boy now running Paramount. Plus, I, I'm excited they're getting into sports in a way that they are. And Skydance, I think, has deal with the NFL to make movies about sports. So I appreciate you trailblazing into the sports world and continuing to keep it moving there. Now, is this for all US Events, right? Is that accurate?
Dana White
Yeah, this is. This is just for us. So we'll still go out and cut different deals, you know, in different territories. But, you know, when you get in business with it, with a global sport like us, I mean, I'm sure they have plans. We haven't got that far yet, but, you know, plans to, to go into other, other countries too.
Pat McAfee
Let's talk about the pay per view model being done here for you. Usually these streaming services, as they're gathering an audience, try to host a big event to draw people in and then they hope their shit keeps them there. Okay, we're have a big event and then we'll keep our shit. Now Netflix just been building since the beginning their blockbuster. So they got everybody, everybody else has to have these live events to bring people in. Amazon was doing with like music. I think they were having like big concerts. Then he got into the NFL. Now they're getting into sports, ESPN plus, ufc, other pay per views. They get in there to have these events. So with Paramount plus saying, hey, we just want people to be subscribers and enjoy it, they have to have a pretty big audience base already, I would assume. And how do you view this? Do you think it's going to be a success and how everybody else is going to end up doing it in this particular world?
Dana White
Yeah, I think that, you know, I think all these streaming services, no matter who they are, have to be involved in live sports. You know, any type of sport, you have to watch it live. Nobody's going to watch, watch a taped or delayed, you know, sporting event. So, yeah, I think they all have to have it and it's going to be fun because, you know, there's all these disruptors in business right now. You know, when you think about us growing up, I never thought taxi cabs would go away or, you know, cable television would crumble and go away. It's fascinating to see all that and you know, we're always on the top of new technology and trying new things. You know, I left, I left DirecTV and went to ESPN Plus. And you know, when you make these decisions, it's scary at the time, but one of the greatest decisions I ever made. My relationship with ESPN over the last seven years has been amazing. You know, we had our, our bumps and bruises in the beginning, figuring out how to work with each other and it's, it's, it's, it's been great. I have nothing but amazing relationships with espn. They helped take us to this next level, so. And FOX before them and Spike TV before them.
Pat McAfee
Our Spike TV days, what a run they had. Now is not the time. Paramount plus doing great. Spike TV had a late night. Spike used to be slam ball. Hey, thank you for getting me through a lot of parts of my life. Spike tv. Speaking of your ESPN relationship, the ninth season of Dana White's Contender series debuts tomorrow night exclusively on espn. Yeah, let's go. Nine seasons.
Dana White
I love this show. I'm actually in Miami right now. I'm moving my daughter into school down here. She's going to the U and yeah, we're excited and moving her into school. Then I fly back tomorrow for the Contender series, the greatest show on television. I love the Contender series and I'm looking very forward to this next show season.
Pat McAfee
Also, the contender series is TV contracts are up in the next. Speaking of this, Paramount plus deal. 13 bucks for an entire month. Going to get one of the biggest fights in the cards of all time. Go ahead, Con man.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Dana, obviously the fight this weekend is a massive one. DDP and Khamzat. What are you expecting from the card this upcoming weekend? And how is Chicago as a whole when it comes to a venue?
Dana White
Awesome. You know, we haven't been to Chicago since Pre Covid, so it's good to get back. Card sold out. Main event is badass. That's going to be a fun fight. And yeah, I'm looking forward to Chicago too. I'm keto right now. I'm probably going to jump off keto for a couple days when I get to Chicago.
Pat McAfee
Oh, no, I think if you jump off a couple days, have maybe a little bit of that lasagna pizza there, that super deep dish pizza. Maybe do a Portillo's dog. Put ketchup on that thing so it tastes good in the entirety of it all.
Dana White
But keto in that blue Malnati's Gibsons. You ever eat a Gibson's Steakhouse? They bring out Desserts this big and with a knife stuck in the top of it. It's unbelievable. Chicago, here I come.
Pat McAfee
Treat yourself, Dana. Treat yourself, Dana. Even if it's keto. Yeah, you need another effing Friday back in. And I think your body will appreciate it, too. They'll be like, oh, this is what it was like. They'll fight even harder for you on the other side of keto. So big weekend this week. Weekend. Can you tell me a little bit more information on the White House? Because that's going to be on Paramount.
Dana White
Plus that might be on cbs. You know what I mean?
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Dana White
Fight card from the White House. Live and free on cbs, the network. Come on.
Pat McAfee
Hold on now. Huge. That could be. That could be, like, biggest numbers of all time, which I assume is what you're dreaming of here. All right, well, congratulations on the great success. Enjoy the. You down there. I think they're fantastic football team. They paid Carson Beck, like, 6 million or something.
AJ Hawk
Allegedly.
Pat McAfee
They're gonna be good down there. It's gonna be a rowdy fall.
Dana White
I'm coming back here for the Notre Dame. For the Notre Dame Miami game. So I'll be there. I'll be there for that. I'm gonna. I'm gonna be. I'm becoming a Miami fan now. I'm a hurricane.
Pat McAfee
Let's not be giving too much money. They got enough. You should look at maybe the West Virginia Mountaineers. You want to start investing in a college football team? We need you up there in West Virginia. We appreciate you. Congrats on today. Enjoy all the cigars and dessert, brother.

AJ Hawk

Pat McAfee
Sure. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Those shirts that just have the, like, the white writing, small up here. I like those.
Pat McAfee
Especially the deals that they just got done. That TKO group, really doing it right now. They got a lot of stuff. And there's Dana on his IG story. I have a feeling today is going to be a great day. Now that was posted. I'm not going to judge you. Do whatever you got to do.
AJ Hawk
7.7 billion.
Pat McAfee
That was posted after the breaking news. He should have posted on his IG story. Should have been cigar first, then. Then the breaking News. It was IG story. 7.7 billion. 7.7 billion. Then to him, I have a feeling today's going to be great. Like, yeah, brother, we just saw.
Ty Schmidt
I mean it could be after he saw his daughter's dorm room and it was like wow.
Pat McAfee
Wow what?
Ty Schmidt
She got a an excellent dorm room.
Pat McAfee
South Florida. Yeah. Congrats to them, dude. That's huge. I like anytime these companies are getting involved in sports it's good news. Sports are great now. What will it become? No more pay per views. That's huge.
AJ Hawk
Incredible.
Pat McAfee
Huge. I think boxing is going to still Netflix, right? Because Netflix probably going to get into that game. Yeah. Riyadh season interesting time to be alive. Let's enjoy it all. AJ Hawk
Thank you very much. I figured I'd wear a dog just because these Patriots are just looking like a bunch of junkyard dogs.
Pat McAfee
Oh I thought you're talking about the Cleveland Browns dog pound because what they got going on. I'm not.
AJ Hawk
Look, I know everyone's talking about your dirt and it's great but little do everybody know the Browns have a 58 quarterback back there that was drafted before Shador and his name's Dylan Gabriel. When that kid gets a chance he's going to spin that pill.
Pat McAfee
He's five.
AJ Hawk
We saw him. We saw him behind his own line at the rose Bowl. He's 57 solid Stern can play built.
Pat McAfee
Yeah but that grass remember pushing it down a little bit so it's probably they ain't going to have rosebuds bull grass everywhere around.
AJ Hawk
I wish.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I think I didn't desean Watson sit on sideline there. I thought that was maybe AI created like the grock imagine thing him wearing his own logo on his head I thought was the most self aware thing I've seen in a long time on that particular sideline. I appreciate it. The preseason is the greatest. You get to see the little things. Look at the Packers. Do a great job. Ty pumped up about you. Let's go to 1/2 of the Hammer Cowboys AP Tone. Tone, what should we be talking about our preseason that we haven't chatted about enough?
Boston Connor
If a breaking news kind of breaking news. The first AP pool for college football just came out in Texas. Is your number one team in the country.
Pat McAfee
Wow. Preseason. AP top 25 now tone is AP voted for the NFL not for college Texas number one in the country. I think they also have the best odds to win a national championship. Penn State number two. Congrats. James Franklin. The boys Ohio State always going to be high because the team's obviously phenomenal. Clemson now is the interesting team that nobody has talked about or thought about all offseason except for Clemson fans. Now I know the ACC was talked about in the way that the ACC has talked about it. We love the acc. Love everything about it. Especially down there with Bill Belichick. Now come on. He's doing his thing good. But the thought that Dabo is going to be back in the national conversation is great for college football. I'm happy about that. Greg McElroy actually has Clemson as the number one team in the country in his eyes on his always College football podcast, he has Clemson as the number one overall team in the country. Tone, what are we seeing from the AP top 25? What are we seeing from McElroy's top 25? What are the expectations here?
Boston Connor
So with the AP and kind of McElroys, the big thing to me coming into this season is there's so many question marks for a lot of these top teams. Like, and Greg probably is Clemson at number one because there's not question mark. Kate Clubman had 43 touch total touchdowns, I think last year, six interceptions. They're returning all five offensive linemen, all three of their top wide receivers. They returned 3D or, sorry, two defensive linemen are going to be top or drafted in the top 10 of next year's draft. And a corner is going to be drafted in the first round. So, like, there's not questions about Clemson, I don't think. And then.
Pat McAfee
And Dabo. That boy can coach and that boy can coach and run and they do that. Yeah, I started doing it. And I started doing it.
Boston Connor
There's not a lot of questions like, yes, Penn State has disappointed us a lot over the last few years, but that we know who their quarterback is, we know who their coaches, we know their running backs, we know the defense is going to be really good. Ohio State loses a ton. Like, they lose their quarterback, they lose their entire defensive line. There's question marks there. Georgia's got a new quarterback coming in. Notre Dame's got a new quarterback coming. Oregon, Alabama, Miami, all have new quarterbacks coming in. Like, there's a lot of questions in this top 10. So I think when you look at the pool or like this, this preseason pool, Texas, not as many question marks. Penn State, not as many question marks. Clemson, not as many question marks. And I think that's why they're the three of the top four teams.
Pat McAfee
And we'd also like to break some news at this exact time. Coming out on Wednesday, an annual tradition about to take place. The need to Know Gambler's Guide for college ball. 9.99 this year. Tony, you put a lot of great work in. Congratulations. Thank you. This is the second annual Two Time Best Known Two Time. Thank you. Two Time. We did crack in. Yeah, we were able to crack in there. Now, we did have to buy a couple at the end, but we still got it past the list. Need to Know Gambler's Guide for College Ball. Debone went to work on the COVID Tone, you want to work on the inside? What are we going to find in this thing on Wednesday.
Boston Connor
So I did a Preview for all 68 Power Four conference teams. So that would be every single team in the ACC, Big 12, Big 10 and SEC. So you'll get a full page preview on each of those teams, who's coming back, who their coach is, where their weak spots are, stuff and breaking down the schedule, stuff like that. And then you know, at the end I give out about 32 best bets as far as totals for over under for the season. There will be a bracket on who I think will make the college football playoffs. You could also bet off of that Heisman winner stuff like that. So yeah, probably about. It'll be about 75, 80 pages of college football breakdown.
AJ Hawk
Why isn't South Carolina on McElroy's? And maybe it's because I just watched the SEC show, but I love Beamer and I thought everyone was talking about Lenore Sellers being a Heisman and then the, the one team that's not on McElroy's and I think he's, I think South Carolina is 13 on the AP or 12 and South Carolina's not even in his top 25. Is that, is that kind of one of those teams that people are either hey Heisman and national championship or bus.
Boston Connor
I think it's because a lot of people think Lenor Sellers is going to have to be Superman and carry the team a lot because there's not a ton of other pieces on offense. So it's like if Lenore sells Sellers has a Cam Newton run, yeah, they can do it. But if he does not, if he is does not live up to the potential, then they may, they may follow.
Pat McAfee
Here the Heisman Trophy odds. Arch Manning plus six Huns. Cade Clubnik number two overall odds alongside Nussmeier, Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State, new quarterback. He's always open. You know that. Drew Aller, obviously. I like the way their season end. Now granted, everybody wants a national championship. Him making a massive mistake and having to sleep on that all offseason, I think could be good for his development. Or it'll expose him as a guy that was never supposed to be. Yeah, it's one way or the other up there. James Franklin too, in that conversation. The Norris Sellers, Ty Simpson, Carson Beck plus 2000. DJ Lagway plus 2200 down there. Hammer it. Why is that? Did you see the, did you see the COVID of the. The need to know gamblers guy? I don't know if you saw that. Did you see, did you see the graphic dial?
Darius Butler
Great job up on there?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it is a great job. Just a little bit in front two.
Darius Butler
Two dogs.
Pat McAfee
Just a little bit in front of.
Darius Butler
The other, you know, top what? Top four.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, absolutely.
AJ Hawk
He's got thighs for arms. Yeah. Florida is a major part of that SEC show, and a lot of it's Lagway and Billy Napier, and Lagway is one big son of a.
Pat McAfee
Teams that aren't on there are probably pretty bummed out. Like, for instance, West Virginia, I assume, would be just. Just being top 25 because of rich Rod's aura. It is all the way back now. This was ripped off of somebody that was ripped off of somebody that was ripped off of somebody. But what was happening here is Rich Rod was ripping the shit out of somebody, and that particular somebody was the guy wearing a stripe. Stripes, I think this has not been confirmed, but I've seen this particular action before. And he'll really give the tell at the end here because the guy in the stripes fucks up again, and then he has to raise his hand, said, we're going in. We're going, going in. Okay, so what happened here? Just a little explanation. Pause. Okay, that's stripes right there. Okay? That's an equipment manager. That person wears the stripes, everything like that. He used to spot the ball for the drills. Okay. Rich Rodriguez is old mantra, okay? Used to be spot the ball. We had it on shirts. I think the West Virginia University people used to promote it, like Western football. Spot the ball. The statement was spot the ball and get the fuck out of the way. That is the entire. That is what the actual mantra was. And it was to refs. Okay? Then we're gonna tell these refs to spot the ball and get the fuck out of the way. Because we're running. We're running fast, and we're beating people up. So the equipment manager has to be the ref. Need you to spot the ball. You got a script? Okay, I think what happened here. Now continue to play it a little bit. And Pa. This guy just creeped in. He's in charge, okay, of making sure equipment manager did good. So they are both definitely, definitely getting it right now because he said, I'm sick and tired of having to coach everybody on the field. He's talking to him, but he's also burying stripes over there. He's burying them and just right in front of him. Seen this before for it is a fantastic, fantastic wizardry of words is what Rich Rod's able to do. And the fact that he still is this fired up about a ball being spotted is a magical thing.
Boston Connor
A great idea on your Part for the book is I got a quote from the head coach on every single team on kind of what, you know, they're kind of looking for this year. Rich Rod's quote from the book. I don't know what the last couple of years stats were. Our goal is to be the fastest playing team in the country as. As far far as ball getting snapped goes boom.
Pat McAfee
Spot the ball. Yeah, yeah. And that, that stripes right there. That equipment manager is a vital piece.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Of the entire operation. Defensive side, too.
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Like, hey, you got to get that ball spotted. We got D1 athletes, okay? We're paying these dogs here to be here. You, equipment manager, maybe never played in your life, okay? You got to get in there and get the hell out of the way while these dudes are exhausted, puking, running at each other. Spot the ball, get the out of the way. And I think he's going to learn, you know, this ain't Neil Brown's operation, okay? He might have been a little bit of a carryover, but the West Virginia Mountaineers, maybe this year. I mean, with what I'm seeing, maybe this year, I'm thinking two years. Whenever we get the full culture in there, Greg McElroy ain't going to help himself and put us up there at top. Strictly from Rich Rod's aura.
AJ Hawk
I mean, it is a damn shame.
Pat McAfee
Though, because now we didn't have 13 million then. I UFO 13, 14 million. Yeah. I will tell you, I know personally that we did not have that amount of money.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I mean, I know.
Pat McAfee
I almost know exactly how much money. Go ahead.
AJ Hawk
If he had GG Last year, there's a chance, you know, West Virginia wins the national championship of what we're seeing out of him this year.
Pat McAfee
Listen, Garrett Green is running wild brother, at wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Whoa. Yeah. And Garrett Green was a lightning rod for us. Obviously, we didn't win as many games as everybody thought we should. So Gary Green is going to take the brunt of that at West Virginia. I don't think it was Garrett Green's fault ever. He was on a show. He's a dog. He's playing new slot white wide receiver guy, and he's doing it new Edelman. Yeah, he kind of. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Look out.
Pat McAfee
And you see him finding holes, too, looking for the quarterback. It's like there is an advantage to being quarterback. And then rolling into wide receiver. Now, he's not the tallest. I don't think anybody's ever going to call him that, but he's a dog. He Did a lot of great things for West Virginia. And people were saying, yeah, if Rich Rod had Gary Green at quarterback, come on. I mean, there's a chance we go. People are also saying, Nico Mato, yeah, sure, could throw the ball. Spaghett, if we would have had spaghetti. And Garrett Green at slot brother, you know, and maybe run him back there, you know, maybe we were able to do our thing. But Garrett Green was such a good leader, you know, he had all the boys over at the house. Remember the guy joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a college football national champion, super bowl champion, Rider cup winner, ladies and gentlemen, A.J. hawk. Like that. We're still growing the hair. You look, like, amazing. How do we feel about West Virginia not being in the top 10 of either of these? And how do you feel about Ohio State being top three when we don't even really know how it's going to go? We just assume they're going to be great. That has to be a great compliment to the people of Ohio.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, I guess. I'm sure people are upset that they're not number one. But, you know, like, I think we've talked about preseason polls in the past. Like, I. I don't know. I don't understand them. I get. We talk about it. I understand why they're here, but it doesn't matter. Who cares? Whatever you are, use as motivation to try to get to the top. Like, if you're Texas, say, great. We deserve to be here. If you're Clemson's, your Ohio State, say, hey, we should be number one. Let's go out there and prove it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. The thought of Clemson being back in the combo was kind of, like, startling over the last couple of weeks as we're doing research, get back into the season, you know, like, wow, people high on Clemson. Completely forgot people were high on Clemson. Like, that was a little bit of a take. Then as I start reading it and then you start putting the stats together, it's like, and dat boy's getting back. I like, I like. The dabo is getting back into the national conversation.
Boston Connor
And a lot of it, with all due respect to the teams in the.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, bingo.
Boston Connor
There's not a lot of other teams.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. And that's why Clemson last year was just a nothing because they lost to Georgia. Week one, 31 nothing. And then Miami was the ACC team. And then just the last two weeks, it turned into Clemson.
Boston Connor
Now that the AP is out. Now you saying that week one brought it up three top 10 games in week one. You have Texas, Ohio State, LSU and Clemson and then Miami on Notre. And Notre Dame is on Sunday. So that'll be your three top 10 games.
Pat McAfee
Week one college football. So close. Just a couple weeks and we'll be over there in Columbus, Ohio. Yeah, cannot wait to get over there, get back in the swing of things. Will be Lee Corso's last head game.
Ty Schmidt
That's right.
Pat McAfee
I think that's gonna be a pretty emotional show.
Ty Schmidt
I would assume so.
Pat McAfee
I assume that's going to be a lot of different, you know, call ins or show ups messages, cameos. Yeah, there it is. That's the thing, huh.
Darius Butler
Just turned 90.
Pat McAfee
Happy birthday. Yeah, that was incredible. I get an email, hey, Coach Corso's turning 90, if you guys want to say anything. And I'm literally just walk as I'm. I'm walking on the beach. It sounds so. I live that life now though. You should see me walking that beach. I love it.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, vacations are for beach.
Pat McAfee
It is great. I mean I'm on cloud a thousand up there walking that thing. And I get an email, hey, coach Corso's turn. 90 fings say anything I do from everything in this ocean, brother. Because the amount of times I thought we know nothing about the Bermuda Triangle was right out from where we were. From where we were. Don't go, the Bermuda Triangle is right out there. People are like, hey, you look right out there. That's where the Bermuda Triangle is. So I look up the Boomera Triangle. It's like a over a million square miles or something like that. And then I ask Grock, I said, grock. What? What? Tell me about Maria triangle. What's going on? Grock basically says it's all. Don't worry about it. No, no. That's what Grock told me.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I'm looking out there. No, I don't look. Like to me it looks pretty real out there. Everything I'm seeing, it's crazy. When you look at the ocean, like how small. Yeah. Oh yeah.
AJ Hawk
The earth's so round. Why can't you see it better there?
Pat McAfee
What, the ocean? Yeah. I don't know if I have good enough eyes. I don't know. Do you have good enough eyes?
AJ Hawk
Maybe.
Pat McAfee
The ocean's vast is what I'm saying. It's so big.
AJ Hawk
I know.
Pat McAfee
That's why it would be hard.
Ty Schmidt
Goes as far as the eye can see.
AJ Hawk
They say the, you know, the earth after what, one mile, one and a half miles.
Pat McAfee
Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, flat earther and ESPN pundit man who just signed a new deal. This off Season. We can't wait to watch him on our TVs every single moment. And we'll help contribute to that by adding them on our show. Ladies and gentlemen, Danielski. World's Round. Dan. World's Round.
Gumpy
Yeah, I've been seeing a lot more stuff like, I don't know, my algorithm.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Gumpy
Of like, people who truly believe the Earth isn't round.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Yeah. And it's not just your algorithm. I think we give too much credit to algorithms as a whole. We think algorithms. Algorithms are snowflakes and all individual for everybody. We're all seeing the same videos.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Yeah. It's a problem.
Pat McAfee
Right? We're all seeing the same stuff.
AJ Hawk
Some of them are bad.
Pat McAfee
They're just picking and choosing what we all see, I think.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Which is an interesting. That's an interesting place to be.
Gumpy
I didn't think about that.
Pat McAfee
AI. Pretty powerful.
AJ Hawk
Other countries do that, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, dude. Because we'll all come in here and be like, wow, a lot of murders on you guys this weekend. Yeah. Yeah. It's like, okay, so I didn't ask for it. I know.
Gumpy
Does it make you guys think, like, makes me for a second be like.
AJ Hawk
Nice.
Pat McAfee
What, you want to go kill somebody?
Ty Schmidt
I've done that, too. That exact same thing.
Pat McAfee
What does it make you want to think?
Gumpy
Just makes me think, like, maybe. Am I not smart?
Pat McAfee
Simulation, maybe. Okay, Dan. Well, God bless you. And obviously there's a reason for everything. We understand that. But our algorithms need to lock it up, I would say. Dan, how much you doing college ball these days? I know you're big NFL guys commentating, right? Aren't you? Oh, yeah. I'm taking NFL games. You still do any college stuff? Because the first AP poll comes out and obviously Texas is the number one. Clemson rounds out the top four with two Big Ten teams. Sandwich in there. Georgia, people forget about the dogs down there. They still do Bloody Tuesdays or whatever it is with Kirby Smart. And I believe Gunner could be a dog. I think we all believe in them. Marcus Freeman in Notre Dame going to be in the top 10 car conversation every year. I think that's just how this is going to go for the. Until Marcus Freeman's no longer there. Oregon as well, same conversation. Alabama has more five stars next year than anybody else in the country. Except for Oregon. Right. I believe. I think it's Oregon and Alabama had the most five stars, so feels like the Kalyn DeBoer era with grub as the offensive coordinator and I remember didn't have him last year, could just continue. Alabama Success, even though nobody's really expecting from the Crimson Tide down there. What are your thoughts, Dan, on how we kind of currently sit. And no West Virginia in the top. Top 25 of either the AP or Greg McElroy. Kind of confusing.
Adam Schefter
Yeah.
Gumpy
Maybe they need bigger donors. Yeah, I'm still all over college football. I'm still part of it weekly. For us, that first weekend is going to be amazing. I think about it, like, to your point, Clemson, I think some of the teams that I find, like, super interesting. Or is LSU one? Have we heard anything about? And maybe you guys know more. Like, I saw all over the Internet last week of Nussmeier, and he's injured and I, I saw some reports. I was like, God, I hope that's not true. Is he healthy? Is he not? So I think Illinois is a team that, like, we don't need an answer.
Pat McAfee
Okay. You didn't want an actual answer. That's on us. That was a rhetorical question. We misread it. You're in a call when we answered it. Questions now. Well, I don't know. That's.
Gumpy
What's the. What's the. What is the what do you want.
Pat McAfee
To know or not? It sounded like you didn't want to know.
Boston Connor
So Twitter was burning. Everyone was reporting that it was like a torn acl, blah, blah, blah. And then actual reporters came out. Jacob Hester, I believe he was at practice or whatever, former LSU great, said, no, he's fine. Everything's fine. I believe he just bumped a knee with a defensive lineman. Might be like a knee bruise type situation. I believe I saw a report that he has sleeve on it, but he's back at practice. So I think.
Gumpy
Okay.
Boston Connor
I think major, major injury avoided in that situation.
Gumpy
Okay. Okay. So I think they're interesting because I, I, Gus Nussmeier, for me, is the best quarterback in America. You know, Sellers is crazy talented and he can play himself into that conversation. Club Nick, really good year. Can he do it again? I think they're more talented on the outside of Clemson than they've been in a couple years. But LSU just, that game is going to be awesome. I think Illinois is a team that, like, could just throw it all for a loop just because the style of football that they play defensively, they're going to be outstanding. That's kind of become a calling part of them, but just the old school style of football that they play. Penn State is the best Penn State team James Franklin's ever had. Aller is another guy that I think there's A camp that sits there and I'm in this camp that goes, man, if he gets it together and just continues his development, Penn State will be in the playoff and he could become the number one pick in the NFL draft. And then there's a camp of Al. Never put it together. He's always just the big tall, athletic dude that, you know, maybe doesn't become the complete quarterback. So I'm all about college football. Arch Manning, how good is he? So I'm all that first weekend's going to be awesome.
Pat McAfee
I've seen, I've heard some people that I have a lot of respect for say that they think Arch Manning probably sixth or seventh best quarterback in the sec. We'll see. We'll see how that goes. I don't think that's the case. There's a reason he's number one for Heisman odds, I think and I think we all remember he got concussed last year, stood right back up, didn't let anybody know about it. Might have a celebrity last name, but I feel it. He's got blue collar.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Work ethic out there.
AJ Hawk
He's an all bro player.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, he is all brought every time. All time. Especially whenever you have that name. People are going to buzz. Can't wait for college football football to get back. Should be a fantastic start. Now let's talk NFL ball. Feels like you did a lot of research and did a lot of judging. You know, we had top tens for everything. Top 10 for mechanics, top 10 for ball placement, top 10 for arm strength, top 10 for great legs, top 10 for all this stuff. You, you had top 10s across the board for ESPN.com. massive respect for the amount of work you put in. Also appreciate you feeling as if you could be the authority on this entirety thing. Darius Butler has a question for you.
Darius Butler
Yeah, Dan, these are. First of all, beard looks great. This is one of my favorite lists. I look forward to going into the season. Want to know were there any surprises going into this? And Jared Goff, I feel like used to be one of your guys. Why does it seem like you hate him now?
Gumpy
You get a new shaft yet?
Darius Butler
Driver, can you put some context?
AJ Hawk
Surgery?
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Come on. College chicks Skies. What's going on? Your shaft okay.
Darius Butler
Posted a picture the shaft, the driver shaft was a little bent. Told him hey, you know it is told me to get a steel. I'm like nobody uses still.
Pat McAfee
I just want to let you know I did not know what we were talking about there. I had no idea. I, I lot of shab dhaka A lot of shaft.
Darius Butler
Golf is great.
Boston Connor
Should you just answer the question?
Pat McAfee
Huh? Golf is great.
Gumpy
Shaft.
AJ Hawk
So in your top 10 or so.
Gumpy
Here'S the good question. Here's the. Here's kind of like the conversation around the top 10 list. So first of all, Jared Goff.
Pat McAfee
Campion. Got it. Yeah. Is that what you say? No, no.
Darius Butler
It's a great season.
Gumpy
No, second year, I love Jerry. Okay, so second year that I. They've asked me to do this, and it's a bunch of different categories that you guys have taught. I'm being serious here that you guys have talked about. So, you know, like, there. A lot of times the top four are kind of like any mix of Josh, Lamar, Joe, and Patrick. And then, you know, there's. I'm of the group that still think that there's 10 or 12, like, other just really, really good quarterbacks in the league right now. And so I put a list of 10, and then it's a conversation of like, hey, you don't have Justin Herbert in there. I'm like, man, Herbert should be in there. And then so it's like, okay, well, who could I take out? And then, man, you don't have Jared Goff in that one. Well, who can I take out? Or, you know, there's no Dak in there. So it's like, there are moments when I try to give love to a guy that I think is probably worthy of being in that top 10, but it's like I can't take somebody else out. And so there's a. There is a little bit of, like, puzzle piece fitting because, you know, trying to just be respectful of so many different guys.
Pat McAfee
And it's like, so we're playing politics. Yeah. So we put Jared Goff in one of the top 10. Yeah. And I'll tell you what, Detroit noticed, Dan. That thing wasn't out for more than maybe, I don't know, 30 seconds on each one. Five, maybe three and a half. Oh, yeah. And Detroit was like, oh, here we go again. Dan Orlowski. Dan. I was pissed off. One of the best offenses in the league last year. Top five quarterback in the league last year. I mean, decision making with the football ball placement. There's so many things that Jared Goff does great, and he didn't even have him on there. Did Aaron. Aaron lose his mechanics?
Ty Schmidt
His arm got chopped off, actually got to throw things.
Pat McAfee
He started working with Artie Smith. Yeah. He plays with Steelers and Artie. So his mechanics might be bad. Yeah, I understand. Because they say, like, his form actually is like the teach tape, the mechanics, writing that work. Sorry though. Sorry. We got a lot of how you.
AJ Hawk
Want your quarterback to throw ball plays.
Pat McAfee
Got a lot of good players.
Gumpy
Yeah, it's making a top 10 list with so many quarterbacks. Tough man. Tough. It's tough. I didn't even realize it today until like the end of first take. They were like, you don't even have Mahomes in top 10, McKinks.
Pat McAfee
And I was like, fudge.
Gumpy
I'm not going to talk my way out of that one.
Pat McAfee
Fudge. I fudge up. Guys, listen, every once in a while you got to stop slide a six and a seven out to get some 12 and 13 and some other one in there. Because I'm gonna see these people seven. I'm gonna see the mechanics. I'll tell you what Aaron did. Forget how to throw. So I, I, I do, I, I do respect that. I, what do they call him? The greatest ball.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, but he's got some extra weight now.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you're right. Artie Smith. Is that what it is? Maybe. Oh, you talking about being married? I, I don't know A.J. you tell me. You think Dan Orlovsky doesn't think he can throw anymore because he's married?
Dan Orlovsky
I, I don't know. Dan. Is that what you're, you're hinting at Dan?
Pat McAfee
You think it's the wedding ring on the left hand? His mechanics. What happened to Dan not gonna be.
Dan Orlovsky
Not focused on ball or what?
Pat McAfee
Not gonna be able to do it. His mechanic just not.
Gumpy
I don't have a good explanation for not having him on there. I don't, I. Explanation. I don't have a good explanation for that one.
Pat McAfee
We love you.
Gumpy
On the marriage though.
Pat McAfee
Hey, I want to let you know.
Gumpy
The marriage.
Pat McAfee
Okay, sounds good. We're happy we got that cleared. We appreciate you doing all the work and just putting yourself out there to do this. I mean, because all we do is literally what we just did. Everybody does that as soon as they look at your list and you know that. Yeah, your shins are just in every single different room banging a bang bang. What does Dan know? Oh, he put us at one at this one. Can't even get that because you put him at three at this one. They don't know shit. And then Pittsburgh hate you, Detroit hate you. I mean there's some pretty active shit talking cities, let alone what you said about Jalen last time. I'm not, we're not going to get into it. We're not going to get into it, but we appreciate you Swinging.
Adam Schefter
What I say about Jalen?
Pat McAfee
You're on a beach.
AJ Hawk
I already forgot.
Gumpy
Yeah, yeah, it was a good day. It was a good day.
Pat McAfee
We had a great day. Speaking of a great day, let's talk about a great night, especially in Cleveland. Go ahead, A.J.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, Dano. I'm actually around a lot of Cleveland Brown fans and leading up to their, their first, you know, the preseason game on Friday, a bunch of the fans told me, hey, this is our super bowl tonight. Shador is going to get a lot of time. Like we want to see what he is able to do. I know you guys have gone over and over this. He played very well. I was, I was very impressed actually by his presence, how he had a command of the huddle, his confidence on the field. But what do you make of this and like how different is a defense in say the first or second preseason game, say to the first or second regular season game? What kind of different looks will they give you as a quarter quarterback?
Pat McAfee
Great question.
Adam Schefter
Yeah.
Gumpy
So like, you know, going into these games, you guys obviously experienced it and then hear a lot of people talk about, you want to, how he, how he handles it, how he operates, you know, the, the pre snap communication, post snap execution. Does he look like he's, you know, seeing everything clearly and like that is said because it matters. And that was one of the things that stood out, was just how comfortable he looked in and out of the huddle. There's multiple times where you know, he's sticking his hand up at the line of scrimmage, talking to his receivers like, hey, you're good. Don't worry about any blitzes. Our protections are fine. So you know, when I watch that, he's, it tells me like he's, he's understanding what he's looking at. That matters a big deal. I think the thing that like one of the things that I took away was he was pretty aggressive with the football. That tells me like confidence, you know, that again he's seeing how rotation happens now. He saw a lot of, you know, backside safety, drop down men, coverage. So that you're not going to see like you'll see that in the league, obviously a ton. He didn't see a ton of pressures, he didn't see a ton of blitzes. You know, some of the stuff that some other quarterbacks saw, like Seattle was throwing Star wars stuff at Geno Smith. So you know, he didn't see that. But I do think that way going, you walk away going, man, the operation was clean. He looked comfortable. You saw athleticism. The decision making was spot on. He had two or three drops even in the midst of the stat line. So, you know, this plays awesome to me because it shows reaction. He remains a passenger. He doesn't bail. He stays in that really good pocket of throwing presence. And then the throw the ball placement. Face mask or higher belt buck buckler lower down in the red zone. And this one's belt buckle a little to protect that guy. So here's my thing. All reports in training camp have been overwhelmingly positive with Shador. Like, hey, another good day for Shador. Then he gets in the game. He plays really well. At some point, the Browns are gonna have to sit there and go, we gotta get him more reps against better competition with more of our higher end talent. I've been in the camp start one of the rookies. I think it's really hard to not walk in there this week and be like, let's get them reps versus the ones with the ones and see what it looks like.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, it's time.
Darius Butler
It is time. Put your watch up, Dan.
Pat McAfee
If you believe. Damn. Put it up. Yes. Apple watch. Somebody send him a text. Somebody send them a text to pop up right there. Those rings aren't even close to being closed. Yeah, you gotta maybe do some more steps. Be healthy, Dan. I like everything you're saying there. And we had an all bruh team. I don't know if you saw that bruh, because it's bruh. Great, great work out there. But also bruh, it's preseason bruh. It's better than playing ass. I can't say that enough. These guys that play good and people just want to mock and ridicule them for its play. It's like, what are they supposed to do? Play like shit. And then what? You know? So I think we should celebrate it. But we do got to keep it in perspective that bruh Myles Garrett was sitting on his sidelines. Miles Garrett and Shedor actually had a conversation after Shador's time. Great interaction. Miles and he seemed to get along well, which is good play by Shedeur to win over Miles and also Miles probably the same way. And Shador asked Miles if he thought his little spin shit could work on him that he was doing against the guys that were out there. And Miles like, come on, man. Come on, come on, come on. Like, basically like, relax. And then I think they both said that was some shitty DN play out there. It was like, yeah, it's this preseason football. Yeah. But once again, not Shador's fault. This is the only opportunity he's getting play out there. Interesting situation for the Cleveland Browns. Maybe they're good now. Let's stay in the state of Ohio, shall we? Let's go. Yeah, yeah.
AJ Hawk
Last out wagon, by the way.
Pat McAfee
It's kind of like a punch. Yeah. You know, you could do like a big uppercut.
AJ Hawk
Like soccer.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it is like a soccer thing. Now I wear a watch on left hand because I am righty.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, same.
Pat McAfee
But he puts right hand up. I think his. If you looked at the.
AJ Hawk
We can't do lefty.
Darius Butler
I go righty. Righty, too.
Pat McAfee
Who are we? Well, you put watch on right hand, don't you? Are you lefty?
Darius Butler
No, I'm a righty, but I. I don't follow their rules.
Pat McAfee
Okay, I like that. Good for you.
AJ Hawk
There's no rules.
Darius Butler
There's no rules on watching.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I want to look. You know what's more natural? Right there. Boom. That is what I. And also now. Bang. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
And also now.
Pat McAfee
Really just what time? Yeah. I don't even know if this one has the right time on it. You're going to have to certainly look at that. That figure that out because I've been told I can't reset it. That sounds like a waste of money. No, it's just. It's a math equation. I gotta do the thing. The thing.
Darius Butler
It's a little time consuming. You can do it.
Pat McAfee
No, maybe I put on my right hand.
AJ Hawk
I thought they said it once. Then you're not allowed to touch it.
Pat McAfee
Well, just on tick tock, it keeps going. But the thing about it is whenever there's like, you know, it falls back an hour, it goes forward. Oh, this doesn't know.
Boston Connor
We need to get rid of that.
Pat McAfee
It's got no heads up. Yeah, we do. Yeah. Which one are we getting? You want to get rid of it, Dan? Yeah.
Gumpy
Daylight savings time thing. Yeah, get rid of the. Get rid of the one that we do in the fall.
Pat McAfee
Just stay where we're at right now.
AJ Hawk
You don't want to fall back.
Boston Connor
Yeah, we like spring.
AJ Hawk
I agree. I agree. I think you spring forward and then.
Pat McAfee
It'S over, which is where we would be right now.
Boston Connor
I just want to help farmers.
Ty Schmidt
Farmers aren't going to be happy about that. No big deal, though.
Pat McAfee
I don't think that actually. Right. Haven't the farmers come out?
Boston Connor
Oh, you guys don't care about the farmers.
AJ Hawk
Military.
Pat McAfee
I think there's been some farmers that have come out and said like, I don't think they.
Ty Schmidt
They operate on their own time.
Pat McAfee
I don't think they get it done because they'll take tractor. Another ride.
Ty Schmidt
Another ride, another ride.
Pat McAfee
No matter what time it is on Dan Orlovsky's Apple Watch. That's right.
Darius Butler
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
You know, they will certainly go and do that.
AJ Hawk
They always remember when.
Pat McAfee
What's that?
Darius Butler
Get the A.J. hawk light.
Pat McAfee
Oh, the headlamping, splunking like the guys who are fishing outside my house had.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
11:30.
AJ Hawk
I thought they had spotlights in my house.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Tape to their head.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, they weren't even. They had those things up there.
Pat McAfee
How you doing? You're waking the babe. Yeah. You're spotlighting my house right now. Looks like I'm getting swatted. You know, that's what it feels like. So I just try to catch some bass. Yeah, I get it.
AJ Hawk
I've seen too many movies with flashlights coming in through windows to know what's going on.
Pat McAfee
Let's get back to quarterback conversation with Dan Orlovsky, which is his specialty. The guy is the expert. The guy is the Expert. Yeah. Top 10 and everything.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, it's the best.
Pat McAfee
If you want to know what a quarterback. He's got him in the top 10. Top third of the league now. Jared Goff can't crack in. Aaron Rodgers can't crack in. Anthony Richardson. Danny Dimes can't crack in, which I don't love. But there's some other quarterbacks that aren't on there as well. Go ahead, Ty.
Ty Schmidt
Dan, let's stick in the same draft class as Shador. Why do you think that? There has been next to no fanfare for Cam Ward still? That was kind of the talk of the draft. Like, hey, no one's talking about this guy. He's unbelievable. And I. I guess I really haven't seen much of him from neither training camp or, you know, from his game this week. What are you hearing and what are you seeing from Cam Ward thus far?
Gumpy
Yeah, I don't know why. I mean, I. I think there is a little bit of, you know, there was so much attention on Shador in the draft process, and it was kind of like the foregone conclusion of him going 1. I would tell you, just watching the game the other night, I think that he settled in early on. You could just see sped up, you know, but he settled in. In that second quarter and had some really good connections to Calvin Ridley. This is a great throw on the crossing route. I think the things that I liked watching week one, preseason wise, seemed like he had good eyes. You know, he confirms that Shallow Cross is getting carried by that or with that corner versus man coverage. That's a beautiful crossing throw. There's a ball over the middle of the field, this one that comes twitchy drop down coverage. He sees the vacancy in the zone, ball comes out. Now those are some of his traits coming out of college that you liked. I think that the thing that I did see that's probably happened like three or four times in the game that you walk away with Cape is we got to get him to like play a little slower and have a little bit more structure with his within his feet. I think that he's one of those quarterbacks that, you know, has the ability to make a lot of different throws when his feet aren't set. His body could be in unique positions because the arm is so talented. But he's, he relied on that too much. You know, there's a ball he almost throws for an interception that almost gets picked off and it's. You like his, his mechanics. His feet are all over the place and he's parallel to the line of scrimmage. So that's why these snaps are meaningful. These for these guys. So I think that you walk away encouraged by some of the things that he did post snap while also sitting there and just harping on, hey, let's, let's mechanically get more consistent. We don't have to fall ball back on throws. We don't even like this out route. It's completed, but it's not a perfect throw. And if you look at his, the throw, his feet are like slipping all over the place. So I just think like the more reps he'll get to be more comfortable is going to be better. Like look at his feet here. Like he's falling away from that. You can see his upper body like moving away. I want that ball to be just pulling that guy to the sideline.
Pat McAfee
I, I think he's a ballerina. Like that's why I think he is a gamer. I think he's a baller. I think he's a dog. But I think with that there comes a lot of things like attention to detail on the footwork for a lot of time for Cam probably hasn't been a must for him. Let's do other things. And also I see that elbow moving a lot. It feels like that is a little bit of. I assume all this will develop as he continues in the league or most quarterbacks from year one to year four. I know the Josh Allen story is a very real one. Cam's only going to get better, right? All the things because his moxie he walks into the University of Miami. Everybody there says, this is the guy. He walks into Nashville down there, Music City. And you hear Ridley, like, he walks in the room and it's just like, we got a guy, you know, everything else he can work on. Right? That's how we feel.
Gumpy
Oh, totally. Yeah. I mean, the. The character is off the charts.
Pat McAfee
The.
Gumpy
The person and the mindset is off the charts. And there's also a ton of physical talent there. So, you know, you need to remember this guy. You know, let's. I don't know exactly what, you know, the offensive style that he played in. At Carnet Ward, but incarnate word. But at Washington State, it was Chuck and Duck, man. So, like, those offenses aren't necessarily teaching a ton about footwork and whatnot. And so then he goes to Miami and it's a little bit of the same stuff. And so go back to when Caleb, we was coming out of school two years ago. There's a little bit of that there, you know, where it's like there. He probably hasn't had to be hyper focused on footwork and, you know, hitches and the. The balance of it all. And so that. That's going to come because everyone raves about this young man's footwork. But even that ball, that ball should be out a hitch and a half to two inches sooner. You know, Calvin's running across her over the middle of the field. The protection's flawless. So get it. But that'll calm. He just. That that's all gonna come with reps. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And I. People are gonna hear what we're saying in saying his, you know, his footwork and this is gonna have to get better. And they're thinking themselves. Well, he's had a lot of success already. He's number one overall pick. It's like every position, once you get to the NFL, it's all about the details. It's all about the tiny little. Like for me punting, it was in my drop, like learning how to drop. I had to stand at my bed at night and just drop this thing like a thousand times so that it would drop flat. It's like all the little tiny things they can continue to improve on. And everything said about Cam Ward is that he will. And I don't love that for the AFC South. Okay. I wouldn't let that be. No, we know Houston's got what they got.
Darius Butler
Yep, sure.
Pat McAfee
Jacksonville's got a kicker that's hitting 70 yard field goal, snap, hold, kick, live absurd. Bruh. It's preseason Bruh, that is so far. That is so far legit.
Gumpy
And everybody makes sense to me so far.
Pat McAfee
That is unbelievable. That it like I saw that and I'm like, my tweet was this is legendary. Just strictly because it is like everybody dreams of an opportunity to get a 70 yard like a kick. But to make it like I had a 66 yarder, I think in preseason, pulled it left. So bummed never going to get that shot again. But yeah, I make that kick. I feel very good about my life forever. Cam Little hits a 70 yard field goal. Who cares if it's preseason or not? I don't like the vibes down here.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, no extra steps too. Like Tucker 66 against the Lions in the game technically. So maybe that was the difference. He had that extra step. Little was just two steps in a swing.
Pat McAfee
What a kick. And he's not a gigantic human. Yeah. I don't know how he did it. I. I honestly have and I think he was perfect on extra points whenever he was at Arkansas because normally if you have a big leg every once in a while you get a little bit out of control. Seems to be, I don't want to say undersized, but he doesn't look like he is a gigantic human. Anyways, around the AFC south, everybody's really doing it here in India. I don't know if you've heard, Dan. We got good competition going. Boys are battling. What are your thoughts?
Gumpy
Was disappointed that Anthony had that play.
Pat McAfee
What play?
Gumpy
You know, whose fault was it?
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, what should happen?
Gumpy
This is on the quarterback.
Pat McAfee
No, I read. I read from Connor and I read from a lot of people on the Internet that this was not on this entire. This. Can I speak from outsider who doesn't have the highest football IQ on earth, but been very lucky to be in a lot of rooms where it happened, you know. So I think by osmosis I've picked it up. This is something that if you were to play a lot of football, you would know, hey, this is the guy. And then this is potentially 30, 40 yard gain as opposed to dislocated pinky. That's certainly close. He's still on you. Yes, but that thing, he's still taking a hit. Probably falling down, if I had to guess. Yes, but that is going to the running back and going right. And that's just something that like just naturally comes whenever that type of starts taking place. Am I reading it accurately? Yeah.
Gumpy
So let's nerd out a little bit here.
Pat McAfee
So let's do it.
Gumpy
This is. This is it's second and ten. Okay. This is a relatively basic pass protection concept. It's only five people blocking. So the running back has no responsibility. The guard, the left tackle, left guard in the center are responsible for the left defensive tackle, the left defensive end, the mike linebacker. So the guy that is standing on in between the hashes. Not him, him. They're responsible for him. And then the nickel defender. Okay, the nickel. Okay, Go to the. Yep. So there's four guys there, right? You have the nickel, the defensive end, the defensive tackle, and the mike linebacker. The center, left guard, and left tackle are responsible for three of those four. Whatever. Three. It doesn't matter what of the three. If any three of that four come, they're protected. If four, I'm on that side, that's on the quarterback.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Gumpy
And that's why when Anthony catches it, if you guys play it, Anthony catches it. Anthony just stares left because he's thinking the nickel might be a pressure guy. Because look over your right shoulder, Pat. That safety's right there.
Adam Schefter
Yeah.
Gumpy
That's called being capped off. So that a lot of times when that nickel is pressed and the safety right on the logo is over the top, you're like, okay, that nickel can be a pressure guy. So I can understand Anthony looking at that nickel guy and saying, if he pressures, that could be a problem. The problem starts backside. Rewind it. Okay, so now right guard, right tackle, they're responsible for right defensive end, right defensive tackle, and that backside linebacker. Any two of those three. Any two. So if any two come, we're protected. If all three pressure, that's a problem. Now what happens is you teach your offensive tackle, if that linebacker triggers, he's closer to the quarterback than the defensive end.
Pat McAfee
Jeez.
Dan Orlovsky
Mdm. Most dangerous man. He's probably said.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Which is normally inside guy.
Boston Connor
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Closest, easiest pass for the qb.
Pat McAfee
Yes.
Gumpy
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Got it. Yes.
Gumpy
Most.
Pat McAfee
Most.
Gumpy
Most dangerous guy. That's called a squeeze. So, like, that tackle is doing the right thing, and quarterback has to know. Then defensive end is unblocked. So the simple part of that is.
Adam Schefter
Yes, that's.
Gumpy
That's on the quarterback. I do think it's just hard. The quarterback has to see both sides here. Right. So the coaching point is really, Anthony, I don't want you to look left, and I don't want you to look right. I need you to see down the field and feel the color on either side. Feel that. So while I understand Anthony's telling me I know my left is a problem, he's also telling me I don't think my right is. And that's this. That's where like as a coach you would have to sit there and go, I gotta trust you to be able to handle this.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And my friend has been this.
Adam Schefter
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Just.
Gumpy
And know what your Every snap there's a problem. Every snap there is a problem. And you have to know the answer to that problem every single snap. And my comp has been this guys AFC championship game last year. The. The last play of the game when Josh Allen's running for his life and ball flutters in the air and whatnot. That's a Star wars problem. Like that. If you get that, you're Drew Brees, you're like, that's all world stuff.
Pat McAfee
This one.
Gumpy
If you're going to start in the NFL and it's second and 10, you got to be able to know what that problem is and what the answer is.
Pat McAfee
Okay, well, hopefully this will be a learning lesson. I appreciate that. He bounced up okay. He wasn't out. He's been practicing. He had a dislocated pinky. He was ugly. They fixed it. He moves on. Hopefully this is something he can continue to learn from. You've said it twice now. Star wars stuff. Star wars stuff. You said Seattle saying Star wars stuff at Geno Smith. Was that the sign? Pre game. Oh, was that. Is that Star wars stuff? You're saying like, man, this is Star wars stuff.
AJ Hawk
Go forth yourself.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Made a fourth not be with anybody here. You know, like that type of stuff. Is that what you were saying there.
Gumpy
Or you're saying, no, I didn't. I didn't see the sign. I saw that Geno like, did he gave somebody double birds?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And Pete Carroll actually had his back. Crosby followed suit as well, which I respect and appreciate. Gino gave a lot of good years in Seattle. Bigger bus. Geno Smith or Jamarcus Russell. That's what the sign said.
Boston Connor
It was mean.
Pat McAfee
And then. Yep, there it is. Bigger bus. Gino jamarcus Russell. And then Pete Carroll goes to grab it. Oh, yeah, Pete Carroll was.
Gumpy
That guy's always there. That guy's always there. Seahawks game.
Pat McAfee
Sign man. Sign man. Yeah, that's his thing. And then Pete Carroll was asked about it after game. He said, did you read sign? Okay, I have nothing else to say. But it's just him right here.
Darius Butler
Seen at the Seahawks game making an obscene gesture, like at a fan with a sign.
AJ Hawk
Did you see what the sign said?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I saw. Yeah. Next question. Love that beast. How about the journalist though? Obscene.
Ty Schmidt
The kids Watch.
Pat McAfee
Is that okay? I love her, but that was not the Star wars stuff you're talking about. What are you talking about? Star wars stuff. You've said it multiple times now.
Dan Orlovsky
Exotics or what?
Gumpy
Oh, exotic.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Amoebas.
Gumpy
Yes, exotic. Like, I think Mike Martz was the first person to say Star wars stuff around me.
Pat McAfee
Maybe.
Gumpy
But, you know, Star Wars Outer space, and you're like, you're seeing all these different moving parts.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Ghosts. You're seeing ghosts out of this world. Let's talk about one of these Star wars guys that plays football. We've learned more about quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals. Go ahead, AP Tone.
Boston Connor
Yeah, Joe B. He's a bit spacey, and he's also very, very good. He was in a lot of your top 10 list. He's playing early in this preseason. Bengals are notably slow starters. Week one, week two, him and Jamar looked like, I don't know, like they didn't have an offseason. Do you like the Bengals and Joe playing early and do you think it matters? Because, I mean, Tanner McKee looked like Tom Brady.
Adam Schefter
Yeah.
Gumpy
McGee looks like.
Pat McAfee
Like.
Gumpy
Like a. Like a trade potential for somebody at some point. Yeah, I like the fact that they're playing. I've actually become a little bit more warmer. The guys playing in the preseason in the past, I don't know if it's because later games or, you know, the. The quality of the conferences seem to be so high, specifically the afc. So I like the fact that they're playing. I would probably play them a little bit in the second game as well. And like. Yes. But also, did you see the defense? I mean, the defense looked just as bad as last year. Some of the running lanes were just. I counted probably like seven or eight snaps that the Bengals had multiple defensive linemen in the wrong gap. So, you know, I do like the fact that they're playing them, but the defense still remains a massive, massive, massive issue in Cincinnati.
Pat McAfee
Do we know if Mike Brown's not paid to cash 300 million bucks, you're gonna play all the games? Okay. Preseason, postseason off season, you're playing all the games out there. Will the Bengals be to able to stop anybody? Who knows? Will they be on primetime television a lot? Because it's going to be electrifying. Yeah, absolutely. Can't wait to watch the Bengals, especially in that environment. That place is a great home field advantage over there in the jungle. It's getting an upgrade, I believe, too. Right. Didn't they agree to an upgrade to the jungle over there? Beautiful thing. Beautiful Town, hopefully a great team in the Bengals. We can't wait to watch them. Shador talks about a lot, but there's another rookie that we think has a lot of mocks to use. Well, go ahead. Come on.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Dan, Something you never do is go back and kind of take a victory lap for your take. So I just want to say, you know, Jackson Dart was one of your guys, and he came out spinning the pill the other day. What'd you see out of him? And do you think that Russell is going to get a lot of time? Do you think it's going to be, you know, first sign of any doubts that Jackson Dart might get put in because of how well he's playing or what should our expectations be for the Giants with their quarterback situation? Situation?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Gumpy
I wouldn't rush projection Dart on the field. I think Russell Wilson's the starter and hopefully has some success. I think the best thing for the team and for Jackson Dart is that Brian Dables his coach for the foreseeable future. And that happens if they're capable of, like, winning and being competitive this year. I thought Dart looked really good as well. I think the things that you liked were, you know, he. He made some, I guess, different kinds of throws that weren't demanded of him at lsu. Some timing routes on the outside to the perimeter, balls across the middle of the field weren't just necessarily crossers. I love that. I thought he was really strong in the pocket. That's one of his calling cards. I thought out of all the kids in the class this year, I thought he was best in the pocket. Just the strength and the climbing of the pocket while remaining a passer. You saw the athleticism. The touchdown pass along Jordan Humphrey is actually an audible at the line of scrimmage. So again, just verification, recognition, aggression. I think the two things that stood out to me as far as, like, what you want to see him grow at, and this is why I wouldn't rush him on the field, or part of the reason why. He has a third down where he throws the ball to Dulcich, the backside tight end, and he misses it. And everyone might sit there and go, oh, inaccurate throw. And I look at it as he's just playing too fast. He's got a corner round at the bottom and it's like third and three. I think of his first or second drive and he's ready to throw the corner route and the receiver is like four or five yards down the field versus man coverage. And so it's just the repetition and the growth and the experience of slow yourself down feet wise because your feet tell you when to throw the football more often than not. Again, a shotgun quarterback and RPO centric quarterback. That maybe wasn't worked on the timing element of the past game. So that's going to take time. And then the second time was when he runs for a 1 yard gain. Not that big long run, but he scrambles for a 1 yard gain. It's a play action pass. He's got the chance to throw the crosser and the underneath defender kind of tries to bait him and he decides not to throw it. And I'm like, good decision. But then throw it to the running back in the flat instead of becoming a runner. And so just hey, why did you not throw the ball to the back? You know, so I just think, you know, more experience adding that. But I would be as encouraged I was with Shador. I would be equally as encouraged as as I would be for Jackson Dart.
Pat McAfee
And Caleb Williams didn't play.
Gumpy
I was disappointed that he didn't play. I understand not playing him without the starting offensive line. I would love somebody to ask Ben Johnson, why did the starting offensive line not play and then subsequently Caleb get reps. I think he needs reps in this offense. So I don't. I'm okay with him not playing without the starting offensive line.
Pat McAfee
But why is the offensive line playing then? Well, they paid a bunch of guys. Don't want to get him hurt early. Okay. And also a lot of vets.
Gumpy
Yeah, yeah, sure. I mean I again, I would understand that if you tell me. I would understand that those three guys internally are vets, but I don't know the answer to the why they didn't play.
Pat McAfee
You're the man. Enjoy yourself. Thank you for talking to us during your travels. Thank you for taking it on the shins for from the rest of the world and putting out these lists that we can react to.
Gumpy
You're welcome, boys. Oh, he's aj. You need a haircut, bud.
AJ Hawk
Whoa. Oh, aj, you're gonna take that dude. He just.
Darius Butler
I will.
Dan Orlovsky
About three to six months probably. Dano, I appreciate you though.
Gumpy
I thought you keep it tighter on.
Pat McAfee
The sides n he's growing it out. I did.
Dana White
I got grow.
Dan Orlovsky
You know it gets get inched in a little too far. I gotta grow it all out before I do anything else.
Pat McAfee
We appreciate you Dano for your modeling, your haircut analysis staff are gonna be okay.
Dan Orlovsky
Sorry Pat is staff are gonna be all right.
Pat McAfee
No question.
Darius Butler
Scare.
Gumpy
From everything that I'm aware of. Yes.
Pat McAfee
New news since Our conversation has started with you. Today he's out there in street clothes. McVeigh said maybe he does individual drills. Today he's not. So they lied to us.
AJ Hawk
They lied. And has anyone did people or was it a setback?
Pat McAfee
You tell us. Dano. You're friends with them. Text him.
Gumpy
Everything that I know is gonna be fun.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, that's Dan Orlovsky. Are you feeling more fulfilled now that you're back to work this Friday? No, I need a vacation. See the movie the critics are saying.
Adam Schefter
Is an awesome look at that crowd.
Pat McAfee
Pleasing fist pumping all out brawl of a film. You're right about that. They're coming after our family.
Darius Butler
Go fix this.
Pat McAfee
Oh my. Nobody 2 rated R. Only in theaters Friday. This episode is brought to you by State Farm. Checking off the boxes on your to do list is a great feeling. And when it comes to checking off coverage, a State Farm agent can help you choose an option that's right for you. Whether you prefer talking in person on the phone or using the award winning app, it's nice knowing you have help finding coverage that best fits your needs. Like a good neighbor. State Farm is there.
Boston Connor
Packs are weird.
Darius Butler
I'm genuinely concerned.
Pat McAfee
I am too.
Dan Orlovsky
We know Stafford is like the toughest dude on the planet too. Like he that dude will play through anything.
Pat McAfee
We we have massive respect for Stafford. I also have massive respect for people getting fully healthy before getting thrown back out there. So I don't want to hit the panic button yet. But this is abnormal I think for Matthew staff personally as a viewer of Matthew Stafford draft class 2009 draft class still holding it down. Tough. Tough.
Boston Connor
I've seen someone get an epidural. They were in a lot of pain. So if Matthew Stafford that much.
Pat McAfee
Me too. Yeah, that's tough. That's bad. Giving birth. Birth are playing football I guess. Jeez Louise. He's okay.
Boston Connor
A lot of people say giving birth is like playing football.
Pat McAfee
Nope, I'm not saying that. You could say that. I've watched that whole thing. That is crazy. Very thankful for it all.
AJ Hawk
Devonte probably thinks he's cursed.
Pat McAfee
There was something I wanted to say before we got out of here. Oh, what was it? I forget what it was. That's from Bennett's raising hell.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Okay. I do like the stats. And Bennett took a year off. Yep. Said I can't do it. Comes back to the Rams balling out in preseason. He's dog through and through. Stetson better and he does raise some hell down there now he does.
Darius Butler
Justin Rose been to doubt.
Pat McAfee
Oh yeah, that's it. Justin Rose and Spawn yesterday. Thank you, boys. Thank you, boys. Now, as soon as I see Scotty scheffler around the 14th, 15th hole, seemingly get out of it, even though he could have still got it, I thought he might have chipped in to tie that thing. Like. Like, anytime Scheffler's on there, I'm thinking it's a real deal watch. Because he gets the lead in the second hole, it's like, all right, we got another Scotty Scheffler day. Let's do that. Thought Rose, Fleetwood, everybody was just going to collapse. Thought it was going to happen. So as the day continues to go in, Fleetwood still in. I'm like that, baby. Tommy.
AJ Hawk
Hey, Tom.
Pat McAfee
Hey, Way to go. I'm proud of him. Rose battling back through that. And then Spawn with that lab putter doing his thing, making magic. Golf was great yesterday. And whenever Spawn and Rose go to playoff holes in the playoffs, obviously it's electrifying. They both get a birdie in the playoffs, so it goes parv rim jobs, both of them, second hole. Both of them get a birdie. Both of them make huge putts after being able to get on hole. Then they make new hole. Okay. Put in a new position. Then Rose is able to get the win or whatever because JJ Spawn seemingly did a completely different putting motion after Rose made the putt, but because he was closer than him the other way. Great battle, though. Full cinema shout out to these boys putting on a show on a Sunday that ended like 705. Yeah, lately we're talking about that was a long day of golf, and they're talking about how hot it was and the scoreboard not working because of the heat there. So them not knowing what's going on on 17th hole added to the drama. Yesterday was great golf, A.J. i don't know how much you got to see of it. Them both making birdie, making putts in a playoff hole. That's like dream situation for golf there. And it certainly happened.
Dan Orlovsky
Well, I think the whole thing was cool because, what, there's 70 that entered this field, and the top 50 move on. So seeing like, they were updating you at the whole time, like 51, 2, 3, seeing who was on the line and. And every single putt. Like, it affected players and whether they were going to make it to the next round or not and how everything works out. So it's a good time, I guess, to watch golf.
Pat McAfee
I think Kirk was 51. I think. I think he made up birdie on 18, and it moved him from like 54 to 51.
Boston Connor
Like so someone else chipped in on 17 earlier in the day to go from 50 to like 46. It was like.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. There's a lot of magic. They two scoreboards. You know, it was like a high low for whenever you're playing poker. There's two different hands. There was like a high low situation going on. Golf is beautiful. Shout out to golf. Shout out to Scheffler too. I mean he's just a dog still doing it. Yeah, he was 4 under on Sunday or something like that. He had the best round on Sunday of everybody else. He just wasn't able to win it all. It's like. And he looked svelte. Yeah. The fit he had, the white pants with the gray. He looked like very lean and mean.
AJ Hawk
Like dad shape.
Pat McAfee
And so I'm getting a little. I like that we're. He's human. Yeah.
Boston Connor
He's much more than he was.
Pat McAfee
And we didn't have his caddies caddy. I go home for families.
AJ Hawk
I mean he's. He's acting now. I mean he was so good. And Happy Gilmore. Yeah. So it's one of those.
Pat McAfee
He's getting jailed too. He's not supposed to be there.
AJ Hawk
Brett Moxie.
Darius Butler
Liv had a good finish too.
Dan Orlovsky
Oh yeah, I did see some of.
Darius Butler
That was on here.
Pat McAfee
Bryson DeChambeau will be in the show.
AJ Hawk
Tomorrow and I'm very excited.
Pat McAfee
He will be guest hosting hour two. Cannot wait for him. Lives here in Indianapolis. They were in Chicago this past weekend. I guess there was a bunch of fans from everything we saw. Shout out to them. Can't wait to chat with Bryson tomorrow. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. Might change your life. We'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye. We continue digitally. Feel like I hit all check. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Yep, Got it.
Pat McAfee
Didn't sell the platform.
AJ Hawk
So with the golf.
Boston Connor
Oh, that's okay.
Pat McAfee
Hate the golf. Need to talk about the golf. Really love the golf.
Ty Schmidt
Yesterday it was. It was incredible and like you said it going until like 7 o' clock and like actually being like drama filled and very entertaining for the last four hours. Really, it was incredible.
AJ Hawk
Those scores are the sweet spot. Spot I think too like 16, 17.
Pat McAfee
The course did its job.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, the course was tough, but the great golfers still played amazing. Like that.
Pat McAfee
That was 25, 30. Too much. Too easy even.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. Five under 600.
Pat McAfee
Too hard.
AJ Hawk
Not cool enough right around there.
Darius Butler
16.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think you're right. I think it's like the proper amount of big time plays being made.
AJ Hawk
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Like the putts that were being buried. Yeah. Big. Some biggest spawn.
Dan Orlovsky
Man, what a year for spawn. Like, that dude's life has changed over the last four, five, six months.
Pat McAfee
They talk about that putter being like, I guess he was ass at putting. They said he's like 100 and something in putting. And then something came about whenever he got this LA beat putter. It's not working as well for me yet, but maybe I'm just trying to find my stroke. Can I ask.
Boston Connor
Can we go back to Dan's car?
Pat McAfee
What did.
Boston Connor
What happened to your shaft? We didn't really get to the bottom of that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Joe Hayden's second annual golf classic out there in Cleveland. Right outside of Cleveland. It's where they posted a picture of the shaft. The driver shaft. You know, just a picture of me swinging in it. And it was. You know, the picture looked kind of funky. And he dmed me like, hey, bro, you need a stiffer shaft.
Pat McAfee
Paul.
Darius Butler
He did say, paul, you need a stiffer shaft. Pause.
Pat McAfee
Damn.
Darius Butler
And I'm like, bro, I think this is actually a stiff shaft. It just looks weird in the picture. Blah, blah, blah. And then I took a picture of the shaft. Driver's shaft.
Pat McAfee
Get off your shaft. Yeah.
Darius Butler
GPT. What kind of shaft is it? It tells me, boom. It's actually extra stiff graph. So he's like, oh, you got to stop using the graphite garbage. But I'm like, damn. I think everybody uses a graph.
Pat McAfee
They do. I didn't know what's my driver. Do we know what my driver is?
Darius Butler
Is.
Pat McAfee
You probably also have an extra stick. I want to let you know.
Boston Connor
You should have an extra stick.
Pat McAfee
I'm hitting the ball right now. Oh, yeah. Me and Gumpy played in a golf tournament. Phil Maine's classic on Saturday back here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Beautiful Plumborough. I'll tell you what, the course was hard, literally and figuratively. Sure.
Ty Schmidt
Well baked out.
Pat McAfee
Couldn't get a tea into the tee box. That's good. Had to rain and forever. They're in the middle of a drought.
AJ Hawk
You're going bubble with that thing.
Pat McAfee
Was that driver off the deck? No, no, that. That's bonier cabinets. By the way, these particular pythons, great with wood. Put this out just to give love to the boniers.
Ty Schmidt
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Because Billy Bonier, also known as Billy Bones, showed up in a full costume. Always does BC on your cabinets. Logo polo tucked in, fedora, all blue, everything gorgeous. I mean, legend, absolutely outrageous looking. But these particular paisans go wood. These guys go wood. So I just want to do love. I Just want to show a little love because they sponsored one of the holes. Shout out to everybody that was there. Shout out to Daktronics also built a couple scoreboards for Plumb Borough High School or Plum Senior High School, which got a new sign up front. Diggs. I don't know if you've seen it, and I don't know if they ran out of spray paint and Plum, but I'm happy that this thing has not been ruined. I will let you know the main one. It's really nice.
AJ Hawk
What's it say?
Pat McAfee
Whatever the case, I didn't expect J.J. watt to bury the do they happen to do Grass by Chick? I saw that tweet. I saw that tweet. Three hours later, I opened my phone back up because there wasn't a lot of service. Obviously, we're in the middle of the hills out there. So when you're at high altitude, your phone's working, but at that altitude, you're looking at the views, you're having a good time. You're talking to people you haven't seen 15, 20 years. Do you want to pull your phone out that moment and really live? So I skipped a couple high altitude moments, pull my phone out later, I'm like, oh, no. J.J. watt just killing the grass. He doesn't even know that Billy Bones, Billy Bony or when he met him out in Arizona, walks right up to him and goes, hey, what's up, jj? Big fan of tj. So he didn't even know that that was who that person was. And I want to let the Larmans know. There he is.
Darius Butler
330.
Dan Orlovsky
He looks tall in that one five under. He's the dancer, right from the party bus.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Yes, he is the dancer.
AJ Hawk
Yes, he is.
Pat McAfee
In the back.
Dan Orlovsky
Like, hey, looks like a rod.
Pat McAfee
A little.
AJ Hawk
It does.
Pat McAfee
In the backyard, Gino Romeo, former starting quarterback for a Palm Syrian High School Mustangs. Also, Joe Hadley. Guy on the left there, Joe Hadley, all time leading sack eater for a Paul Mustangs. That's all Italian. Yeah, those are Italians, right? It was Italian fest. We were in the middle of it, actually had a couple of jellies. One of the shots of you. Pies on. Guy pulled out gabagool out of his cooler out of the golf cart.
AJ Hawk
Delicious.
Pat McAfee
I'm walking. Hey. Nick's dad, who was very gracious, let us sleep in his basement on, like, the good old days on Friday night. It was great to be back in that basement. Great to be back there. It was awesome. Gump sat the couch. I had Nick's Little brother's old room was arctic cold down there.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, it's the best.
Pat McAfee
So Italian. Everything was pull open. Frank was up left open for us to arrive. Frank even say you want to jump in? Go ahead. Like good old days. Go ahead and do it. It was awesome. Everything shut down, by the way. Everything shut down. Yeah. Covid I think made everybody go to bed.
Boston Connor
That side town stinks.
Pat McAfee
So I disagree. Mohans. We would have stopped. I almost pissed my pants. Mohans was closed at 11:30 midnight. I was very surprised. He said, we'll close at 10. Everybody close at 10.
Boston Connor
386 is thriving.
Pat McAfee
Covid sent everybody to bed and we drove through that time.
Boston Connor
Oh, it's all new. Brand new sheets.
Darius Butler
Okay.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I was dying at Brandon McDonald's. Burger King's dead. Rudy Subs still doing it. Would like let it. Rudy Sub's still bringing it. Still bringing it.
Darius Butler
Burger King dying is a bad sign.
AJ Hawk
No.
Pat McAfee
McDonald's thriving though. I think Plum just picked its allegiance. Sure. And said, we're not doing it.
AJ Hawk
We're a McDonald's town.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And there's Hadley obviously inside. Rudy Subs doing his thing. But Nick's dad was playing in this tournament. I'm not gonna say classic Italian by him. Richie, who do a lot of work in plum brought a 15 year old ringer into this thing. 15 year old boy genius. So we run into the paisans and Frank next. Dad goes. We doing. You want to do a shot? Come on. Absolutely. We go do this little Italian shot, guys. With for sure. He pulls out a cooler. He's got gobble goal. He's got a little pepper. Are you pronouncing this guy's name there it is. No. R I C C I U T T. I believe. Yeah. He's.
Boston Connor
He's in a. He's a good concrete guy.
Pat McAfee
He's good contractor. This guy's got a lot of jobs. Yeah. Yeah. They don't paint houses. We don't know actually. But we do know they build a lot of houses. A lot of them in there. Huh.
Darius Butler
Concrete guy you call.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So is Nick's dad. I mean they.
Boston Connor
They work together.
Pat McAfee
They're very Morales and Rick shoes. Basically at this point. Rick shoes running there. And Frank's coming, laying down a concrete. Whatever the case. Cooler out. I'm like, all right. This got to be where the shots are. Ice cold pursuit gobble.
AJ Hawk
How you doing?
Pat McAfee
Whole plate. Whole plate of gobble. Mozzarella. Yeah. Fresh Italian on the logo. Yeah. We're speaking. Was not English language on there. And I'm just sitting. Rolling fields, parking lot. Just taking a little bit of this on there, a little bit of that. Thanks, boys. Shot over here. Grazie. Go do the whole thing. They were 15 under. They might have won the tournament. Did they win the thing?
Gumpy
I'm not sure.
Boston Connor
I sound like everybody won.
AJ Hawk
Check the website.
Pat McAfee
We did not win. I will say we didn't finish. Actually. We played 16 out of the 18 holes. Shotgun start. Starting on hole four is tough, cuz.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, man. Ways away from the clubhouse when you're done.
Pat McAfee
Well, not only that, four to nine, because nine to turn. Everybody's having a good time. Sure. We were acting as if we did play nine full holes there. It's hard to miss out on that good time at the turn. You want to take advantage of that. And we did. We're only five holes in, though. We weren't actually nine holes in, so that kind of offset us a little bit, you know. And then we're going down around the back nine. We get the whole 17. It's like, oh, we're at hole 17. Oh, we're nowhere near done. We still got this whole 18, 1, 2, and 3. So I think it was set up for a way for us not to finish to kind of knew what it was going to be. We could have albatrossed the last four holes.
Adam Schefter
Sure.
Pat McAfee
So we'll never really know what our score was, but yeah, we had a good time out there. Shout out to the Mains family. Great to see everybody. Shout. The Rolling Fields, the Larm and family. Our friend owns it now, runs it. Needs water. We need rain out there.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I need a little bit of grass.
Pat McAfee
They need to be doing some rain dancing out there. They need. They need nature to cooperate with. Rolling Fields. What a time, Gumpy. A lot of boozing out there. Felt like. Felt like everybody was very intoxicated. Love that.
Boston Connor
Yeah, the tequila to get it started about noon wasn't.
Pat McAfee
Wasn't ideal, but that kind of sends.
Boston Connor
Us on our way.
Pat McAfee
It was. It was like. It was a reunion for, like, our whole high school, basically. But it was all the people that we knew. So it was like a perfect. Yeah, it was like. It was a great setup, to be honest. It was great to see everybody. Raised money for a kid named Blake who had a heart. A couple heart things. He was awesome. It was cool. It was a really good time back there. The Phil Mains Classic delivered and he started a gobble.
AJ Hawk
Amen.
Pat McAfee
I will say that.
Boston Connor
I heard it was a great time. My brother Mikey. Dogs represented for the Deglio family.
Pat McAfee
I saw him early. Yeah, I saw him early. He was one of the first people I saw when we pulled up. It's great to see him. Gino Romito showed up with a crocodile belt, yellow shorts, purple. That was one of the first people that's.
AJ Hawk
Well, yellow shorts, purple shoes.
Pat McAfee
I think he just had. I don't know if he.
AJ Hawk
Okay.
Pat McAfee
I don't know if the shoes accessorized the shirt that was purple, yellow shorts, crocodile belt.
Boston Connor
Hadley was actually wearing bowling shoes.
Pat McAfee
Hadley and Gumpy were getting after it. Gumpy doesn't play, but he's there. And Gumpy starts talking to the people that are actually playing. But Gumpy's hit. No bad shots. Yeah. Gumpy said no bad shots.
Ty Schmidt
Nothing. People who are golfing love more than a guy who's not playing. Chirping them all day when they're not playing.
Pat McAfee
Well, especially. Especially if you do have a hint of anger. Absolutely.
AJ Hawk
Which golf happens. Yeah, we're playing golf.
Pat McAfee
Hadley was a good golfer. He was a lot better than. Than I. Every time I play with him, I remember, oh, this dude was a deck hockey. Like that is.
AJ Hawk
Got the rotation.
Pat McAfee
He's got hands. And he's. How.
Dan Orlovsky
He's cleaning windows, too. He was telling me how he squeegees with no. No flubs. Like, he's got great hands.
Pat McAfee
He's cleaning a lot. Too many windows.
AJ Hawk
No flubs.
Pat McAfee
Cleaning those.
Dan Orlovsky
Call him if you need it.
Adam Schefter
Right.
Dan Orlovsky
Doesn't he love when you pub him up? Give him some pub people.
Pat McAfee
Especially with the heat wave that hit Pittsburgh.
AJ Hawk
Give him a call.
Pat McAfee
I'm gonna die out there. I'm gonna die out there. I got too many windows. They all need to be cleaned. It just. It never ends. Everybody has them.
AJ Hawk
Hadley's window wash and call him up. He needs business. And he's the best in the biz.
Pat McAfee
Nick's dad put his phone, his phone number on the sign at the hole. Yeah, we took a picture with it. The number's just right there. I almost posted it immediately. I'm like, all right, we don't need the house number getting blown up here. What a time. I said the same thing, though. He's. He's always bitching. He's too busy. I'm like, well, then why are you putting your phone number on the sign that everyone's going to take a picture of? Yeah, why don't you just put a bunch of these up and everybody will know who the it was. They should have just had the table of gabagool right there on that hole. I don't think they wanted to give it to everybody. I don't think they want to get. I'll tell you, the. The pulling of the cooler out by the Italians. They knew that my mind was about to be blown. And by that point, I'm a little bit intoxicated already. And they're like, hey, sit down.
Ty Schmidt
I was going to say, probably ready.
Boston Connor
For a belly full of lemon cello, cuz that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Orange Frank, as you said, Frankie's.
Boston Connor
Birthday party is orange. There was a jello. Jello shots at some point as well.
Pat McAfee
I remember a couple of those. Oh, that guy's name was Colt. I believe he was a ringer. This guy was a golfer, actual golfer. Chris signed him up to his team. We did a little three extra whole thing. This guy was unbelievable. He was getting us a bunch of booze. I liked him. It was good seeing everybody, man. It was a lot of people. Our entire high school was there. Basically.
AJ Hawk
Good weather too.
Pat McAfee
It was hot.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, it. It's been hot.
Boston Connor
It's been very hot.
AJ Hawk
It's hot as hell.
Pat McAfee
Is it hot down in South Florida too? Yes, like hotter than normal.
Darius Butler
Yeah. So my daughter's actually in like golf camp down there. They had two instructors just this stretched that have had like heat exhaustion.
Pat McAfee
So it's hot for you guys down there too?
Darius Butler
Like different.
Pat McAfee
I think the water is like 97 degrees or something like that much warmer.
Boston Connor
That went in the ocean down there. It was very hot.
AJ Hawk
Northeast is still nice. It was like 65.
Pat McAfee
Wow. People are. People are looking for that right now.
AJ Hawk
Legit. Yeah, it was six. It was so nice because I was coming from Indy, but it was 65 at night in the morning, then 75 during the day.
Pat McAfee
AJ, you watching these training camps, wishing you were out there?
Dan Orlovsky
I can't say I'm wishing I was out there, but yeah, I don't know. I'm not. But I like watching. I do enjoy watching them.
Pat McAfee
I do enjoy the clips that are coming out of it. But boy, what we as fans now, we're missing a lot of it. You know, there's a lot going on other than just this one play that's happening here. The amount of like recovery and prehab, let alone just checking into breakfast. 7:00am you got to check into breakfast between 7 and 8:00am it's like, well, I don't have anything till 10. Checking at breakfast between 7, 8 down there. All right, I'll go show face, I guess. I'm not gonna eat anything. I'm probably gonna go back. You gotta show your face.
Darius Butler
Wellness check you forget about like every drug test. We always talk about the whole building and how everybody's like, I was just reminded with that rich, rich rod with the guy who's, you know, playing the ref spotted, get out of the way. Like everybody, like those dudes, it's so much on their plate. So they got, they got laundry, they got to do this. You got a car, it's the line, the field. You got to set up drills. You got like, you got a 4am Wake up. You miss one thing and you're up for everybody.
Pat McAfee
Everybody.
Darius Butler
It's crazy being, being removed from it. You just forget all the other that goes into it.
Pat McAfee
So many pieces.
Darius Butler
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
To the puzzle. Legit. Those equipment managers, any athletic. The athletic trainers are up at 3 and are going to bed at midnight. That's just kind of what the athletic trainers are doing right now. People are saying, these water boys make 100,000 a year. It's like they deserve.
Ty Schmidt
They were working 150 hour week.
Pat McAfee
They were, they're really going. It's like I didn't even think about that.
Ty Schmidt
Just forgetting how hot it is too. Like when we were in Lay Trobe, I was like, I. I can't imagine playing practicing football in full pads. And then you look over and some guys are wearing sweatshirts and sweatpants under it. It's like, this guy's gonna die today.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's.
Ty Schmidt
It's insane how hot it's been.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's. Did you watch Hard Knocks at all?
Dan Orlovsky
I only saw clips. I haven't got to sit and watch the whole thing.
Pat McAfee
Josh Allen had hoodie on.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Underneath. That was very.
Dan Orlovsky
I was like, he's awesome, man. He's awesome.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you, he's. I mean, he's a guy. Cool customer, legit, like almost. I didn't expect it to be as much as it is because he's the biggest shit talker too, right? Like you said.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's got like a real Phil Rivers feel here. Because like when he's leading and talking to the boys behind the scenes and you know, whenever he's doing all that in the meetings and practices, he's like, this guy is like first class citizen. Citizen, you know, Like, I don't want to say that talkers aren't first class citizens, but you get it. Like everything he's saying is perfect for the exact moment that he's in. And then they talk about him getting on the field, flipping a switch. This guy's the biggest talker out there. It's like I kind of like that I like to be able to put the cape on and then go back out and just kind of do your thing. Are they going to win it all? So good football. The Buffalo Bill's gonna win it all.
AJ Hawk
This year or like ever?
Pat McAfee
I don't know.
AJ Hawk
It feels like it's just because of how we speak of the Chiefs. And like when I think of the Chiefs, I think of the New England Patriots and I know that anytime the Patriots and Brady lost a big game that next year they were going to be in that big game again and they were going to win it.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So you're thinking what happened in the super bowl was a nice little reminder.
AJ Hawk
Just typically, usually those guys like you're talking about taking the cape off with Josh Allen. I don't know if Mahomes takes the cape off ever. I think he almost damn near just keeps it on year round and now you know they're going to do it again.
Pat McAfee
I'm not saying Josh Allen doesn't work on the outside, but it does feel like him off the field from this hard knocks is like president. Almost like goddamn president. Like the way that's how it seems.
AJ Hawk
When he's signing autographs and stuff at training camp. All those clips that come out, unbelievable. It's amazing.
Pat McAfee
He says the right thing in every situation. Like I'm listening to him talk about what training camp is and talking about getting away and seeing every. Everybody and it's like, oh, he's giving like the best answer for everything and then he's walking past a bunch of kids that want his autographs. Like signing after practice. Okay. Like one person talking to a thousand people. One person, I'll sign you after practice. And then they show him signing after practice to the bird.
AJ Hawk
It's like recognizing people that he has signed for in training camps past.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. It's like this dude is a machine. Like he's seemingly the perfect human almost at this entire. And then they're like, well, he's the biggest talker in the game. I'm like, I love that.
Darius Butler
Oh yeah.
Pat McAfee
I love everything about that. Can they win it all?
Darius Butler
That's the. I mean, they can.
Pat McAfee
They have to, right? That's the only expectation you got the mvp.
Darius Butler
It's gonna be the same question with him and Lamar every year. Can. Can they get it? Yeah. Joe is went and lost, but you know, they're. They are. So Dan just mentioned when he's putting the list together, it's like those four on the top of every list. But it's like, can you get it done. Can you get over the hump and until you knock off, off, you know, Michael Jordan back to back, which is Patrick Mahomes right now. It's gonna be tough.
Pat McAfee
71 pound. He was in second place. I don't know if you saw catch.
Ty Schmidt
23 Big White Marlin.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. He was in a fishing contest.
Darius Butler
That's finished second.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I don't know if he finished second at the time. He was.
Darius Butler
Oh, okay, okay.
Pat McAfee
Because he only has 71 pounder.
AJ Hawk
Yeah. But that's what sucks for a lot of these.
Pat McAfee
Nice boat.
AJ Hawk
Like we were talking about the Broncos before the season or before the show today. It was like, the Broncos could. I mean, they have 50 million.
Dan Orlovsky
They could be really good.
Pat McAfee
Very good.
AJ Hawk
It could be really good. But they're in the Chiefs division. So, like, how do you even gauge all those defenses, too?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. Defense, unbelievable. We assume Bo Nix is only going to get better, right? We assume. Borrow. Only going to get better with Sean Payton.
Dan Orlovsky
Sean Payton loves them. You can tell. Sean Payton's obsessed with them. Like, yeah, I think the. I think the Broncos are in for a nice little run now.
Pat McAfee
Think about the Broncos, though, what they had to do, the decisions they had to make. Obviously, the Waltons have a lot of money from the Walmart money and everything like that. They own a lot of teams. You get it. Yada, yada, yada. But hiring Sean Payton and then just being like, you're allowed to do whatever you want. I want to get rid of the starting quarterback and have the biggest salary cap deficit in the history of the league. Do whatever you want. Do whatever you want. If it ends up working, I'm intrigued to see what teams in the future start, like, being like, hey, we're just going to believe in what you do. Does it start building patience with teams? Does it start helping other teams? Do people start moving on from bad contracts quicker and just take the hits? If they're able to have the success going forward, it's like, I think they will. I believe in Sean Payton. I believe. I believe in Bo Nix, too. And I definitely believe in their defense. Their defense? Oh, yeah. Outrageous, right?
Darius Butler
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
And they'll be part of the year.
Pat McAfee
And they'll be able to pay all the coaches. So it's like they'll be able to, continuity wise, I think, be able to keep everybody around over there. It's like the Broncos are in a great spot, but they're in the AFC West.
Ty Schmidt
Well, and I know, like, the end goal, obviously, like, no one's just trying to make the Playoffs, you want to win the Super Bowl. But I think you would already say, like, his 10 has been a success. Like, I don't think anyone expected them to be as good as they were last year. They went to the playoffs with a rookie QB their first year, and then now. Yeah, it's like, the expectation is Bo Nicks is only going to get better. And when you have a defense like that, like, you know that that's the type of stuff that travels in the playoff. Like, they could be anybody in the playoffs.
Pat McAfee
Congratulations to the Denver Broncos fan base. They were going through it there. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Brock OSWALD Got, like 80 million. Yeah. Do you remember. Oh, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Trevor Simeon right after. After him, too.
Pat McAfee
I don't want to go through the whole thing. Brock, handsome gentleman, great football player, very tall. Everything like that. Does great on tv. But it's like, there's been numerous times now where they thought they had it. Couple times. And then do they got it.
AJ Hawk
Finally I was like, oh, well.
Pat McAfee
Got it. Yeah. How about.
AJ Hawk
How about when Russ was there? Like, they're six and five, right? This is how the story goes. They're six and five. Russ goes into the office, and Sean Payton's basically just like, hey, we're gonna need you to take a pay cut now.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah.
AJ Hawk
After a win, immediately after a win, like, they. They went through the bad rust. Sean Payton damn near turned the. The Russell Wilson experience around because they started, like, one in four, and then they turned it around and they won all those games in a row, and still Sean Payton was like, yeah, he's still. He's not our guy. Still. We need to move on. And it's crazy.
Pat McAfee
Football's the greatest, dude. There's so much into it. Business, medical, so close, athleticism, relationship. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
What should you say? Three weeks from Thursday. That's insane.
Pat McAfee
We can make it. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Which means college football starts in 12 weeks.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Let's go.
Darius Butler
Injuries.
AJ Hawk
Yeah.
Darius Butler
Every time something.
Pat McAfee
That was Sean Slater. One is crazy. And also Micah, Trey, everybody. Yeah. Is seeing that because that's what, two weeks after he signs his or one week after he signs.
Ty Schmidt
Ten days.
Pat McAfee
It's like that. His agent immediately. Hey, remember. Yeah, we're good. We're set up. We got these clauses in here. No voids because of this. Your injury guarantees. Actually this. It's like the agent is calling and saying, good work on getting the deal done. But Rashawn Slater saying, damn, this can be a long recovery. And that's also another thing we don't talk about. Like, Stafford. He's in street clothes today. Hopefully he's back. He's getting epidurals. That's not fun. None of this is. None of this is fun. Dislocated pinky, not fun. No. There is the negative side of it all, and maybe it's a firework too for some people, but nonetheless, the recovery on the other side is an ass beating in of itself. Good luck to all the boys in their recovery.
Boston Connor
Yeah, especially, I mean, like Landon Dickerson yesterday. I don't know. We don't know exactly what the injury is correct yet. But like, you lose him and then you lose Makai Becton. That's two guys off of the O line, which was basically the most important part of your team all last year.
Pat McAfee
Dr. David Chow said that everybody taking a knee is not good.
Boston Connor
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
He said the knee taking is interesting, but it might be hot. Training camp, everybody kind of.
Dan Orlovsky
I like that he wrote. I like that he's riding shotgun. Honestly, that makes me have a little bit of hope that he's maybe.
Pat McAfee
I don't know. Yeah. The only thing that makes me think is carding for offensive lineman is a massive decision in of itself, especially that offensive line. I would assume, like even getting on a cartoon. Yeah. Is like a big decision for an offensive lineman, but maybe they're like, hey, we need to go. You need to not put any more weight on this. And hopefully they'll get good news out of the mri. Because to your point, that offensive line was. They were the show. They were the show. Is that offensive line. Now, Saquon obviously is the lead character of that entire show, but that offensive line, what was it, 800 some yards before contact?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
I think it was even higher at the end of the season that he.
Ty Schmidt
Would have been like the third. He would have been like the third leading rusher in the NFL just with his yards before contact and let alone.
Pat McAfee
Saquon's impossible to tackle. So let him just go ahead and go ahead and put the biggest season of all time together. All right. We'll be back tomorrow. Boys, football's here. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. Yeah. All right. A.J. you're the best. We're growing it out, huh?
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, I guess. Like I said, no real plan.
AJ Hawk
Let's go.
Pat McAfee
What Laura's saying, I kind of yearned to.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't think I'm doing that.
Pat McAfee
Is that what she said? Oh, yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
What was that? Finish that one comment.
Pat McAfee
What is it?
AJ Hawk
Yeah, I had the old bull. I want the young calf.
Pat McAfee
She sees a sweat dripping down My.
AJ Hawk
Luscious V of chest pews going down from my chest hair to my ball throw. And she grabs me by the penis.
Pat McAfee
What am I supposed to do? What a shot. Shut the up. So is that what you're doing? You're going back to the young calf?
Dan Orlovsky
No, I mean, you know, like, I gotta grow the sides out. Then I'll figure something out. I'll cut it.
Boston Connor
Young cat.
Pat McAfee
Hey, we'll be here for it. I think now's the time to really try to do that.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Three weeks before the football season starts. Just it. Whole new face, you know, Whole new look. Why not?
AJ Hawk
A lot of people do that before camp usually, actually.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. We'll be pretty excited for it to kind of watch it all evolve. We'll be here for it every step of the way. Actually, a screenshot every single day. National championship. Oh, he's gonna have a little.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah, yeah. Little bun. Maybe a little samurai. Yeah, yeah, that be sick.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't think that's the plan, but we'll see.
AJ Hawk
Hawk hair watch.
Pat McAfee
2025. Look out. Never. There it is. That's what we're looking for. That's what Laura wants.
Darius Butler
That's what we want.
Pat McAfee
To grow that back out.
Dan Orlovsky
No, I might get a perm before I do that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Should think about that Affliction T shirt coming back, too.
Pat McAfee
And also, bang. Yep.
AJ Hawk
Bring back the big boots.
Darius Butler
Oh, man.
AJ Hawk
Bang.
Pat McAfee
We can do it.
Dan Orlovsky
I should.
Pat McAfee
I should. Especially if you're wearing Affliction. You have to. Yeah, I have to. I think you gotta walk around, actually, and just say, if you get in.
Dan Orlovsky
My way, I should bring it back. I should bring the Affliction back. Get the jeans with the big laces, you know, and all that.
Pat McAfee
Paramount plus needs to think about investing in Affliction. You know, you signed a UFC deal. How do you get the Pay per view buys new Affliction shirts. Shirt 49.99.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
AJ Hawk
Who's the spokesperson? Boom. Tom Cruise.
Pat McAfee
Oh, TC. Affliction, sure. I don't know if any shirt TC's wearing, anybody's buying. 49.99. That's about 249.99.
AJ Hawk
That's fair.
Pat McAfee
Which is kind of the Affliction ball. He's the company, man. He might do it for Paramount. He is the company. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. Great work in the back, boys. Way to get back in the saddle.
AJ Hawk
Hey, boys.
Pat McAfee
I'll be back tomorrow. More. Bryson DeChambeau will be here for the entire second hour. I think we have some other stuff happening. You are the best people on earth. We missed you a lot. We had a great time off, but we certainly missed this. We're lucky to do this. We're thankful for this. And this could be the best football season we've ever had.
AJ Hawk
I think so.
Pat McAfee
Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice might change your life. We're in this thing together. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, three. Team Goodbye.
Boston Connor
