Pat McAfee
Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to our humble abode, the Thunderdome. On this not a nutter. Wednesday, August 27, 2025. This program begins now.
Boston Connor
Football.
Pat McAfee
It's happening all around us. And don't look now. Tomorrow, massive college football slate. Don't look now. Saturday, first college game day of the year, as Texas travels to Ohio State. And there's two other top 10 matchups to kick off this glorious college football season. And then one week from tomorrow, guess what, Magic. It's happening.
Ty Schmidt
Yep, it's happening.
Pat McAfee
There's a banner that's gonna be going up in a city of brotherly love. There's gonna be a football team traveling from Dallas with its biggest star on the defensive side of the ball.
Ty Schmidt
I don't think so.
Boston Connor
Or Internet says nothing.
Pat McAfee
Or without its biggest star on the defensive side of the ball. We are here. We have made it. We are at a time where we obviously look forward to. And when we're in it, we never appreciate it enough. But this football season, we're going to look around, we're going to smell the roses, and we're going to say, hey, thank you to football for having its greatest season it has ever had. With the development of the College Football Playoff last season, with how big it was, teams that lost still made it. Teams are going to have hope until the end of the year all around the country and in the NFL. I've been told scouts, Scouts honor.
Boston Connor
Okay.
Pat McAfee
I don't know which three of them.
Boston Connor
Three of them.
Pat McAfee
Cub and boy Scout.
Boston Connor
Don't do this one.
Tone
Nazi German three.
Pat McAfee
What's that?
Boston Connor
Just do the three.
Pat McAfee
This one?
Boston Connor
Yeah. Don't do the two.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Bill Stewart, rest in peace coach from West Virginia. He's also going into the West Virginia hall of Fame. That was one of his moves. Whenever he wanted to really sell something, he would say, cub, two finger and scout honor and go and sell it. I've been told by the football gods. They spoke to me. I was on a plane for a long time. Yeah, long time. Over the Pacific, way upper. A lot of islands that I did not know existed. Sure, they're out there. I hope they had a great time. Not a lot of good Internet out there. None, actually. But I talked to the football gods. You know, when you're in a tube flying for that long and there's no Internet and you're really kind of isolated and you're trying to battle through sleep deprivation and trying to figure out how the schedule is, maybe you do hear from the gods a little bit more up there. Maybe it is A little bit more peaceful. The football gods reach out to me. They said, about to be the greatest season we've ever had.
Ty Schmidt
Here we go.
Boston Connor
Huge.
Pat McAfee
That's a big deal, isn't it? That's huge because remember last year, beginning of the NFL season? Shite. It was shite. We're talking about bad games, boring games. Football is bad. People are talking about college football always electrifying. College football is always going to be electrifying because the atmospheres are going to carry it, even if the game isn't that great. But the games have been great. The atmospheres are amazing. That's why college football is going to do its thing and then the NFL this year, I've been told football gods directly, they're all coming out guns blazing.
Boston Connor
That's huge.
Pat McAfee
Every team's going to be in mid season form and the style of football is going to be one that we love. It's going to be physical style football. There's going to be people beating each other up. There's going to be big time hits. And then we got showcase matchups on the outside between deep and wide receivers all year long. And these quarterbacks are getting even better. These quarterbacks are throwing the ball further, These quarterbacks are throwing the ball more accurate. And these offensive gurus that are calling plays are getting smarter. And the one in Minnesota just got a weapon back into its lineup. Adam Thielen traded from Carolina Panthers back home to Minnesota Vikings. Congrats, Adam Thielen, welcome home and congrats to the Minnesota Vikings. Now the Carolina Panthers obviously showed a lot of promise at Dana last year. Bryce Young might not be a bust, right? Everybody was calling him one, might not be at all. He might be a guy. They were calling him Steph Curry of football when he was coming out of college. John Carolina, nothing was really working. Even the ownership wasn't really going well. End of last year they found it. Adam Thielen we thought was going to be a part of the growth and development of the Carolina Panthers. Instead he's going back to Minnesota to join the Vikings. Congrats to all parties. Feels like Carolina's happy with a 5th round pick and a 4th round pick. Thielen's going back home. There was a video of his family celebrating going back home. Obviously he's from Minnesota, went to high school in Minnesota. He actually had to go to a regional tryout to even make it to a tryout. He had to go to a tryout to make it to a tryout. To get into the NFL. He had to Pay his own way into said camp tryout to get a look, ends up on the Vikings, becomes a Pro Bowler, becomes All Pro, gets a massive deal with Carolina Panthers, has to leave home now towards end of career. We don't know how many years he has left. He probably doesn't either. Heading back to Minnesota in an offense that is really good. They're restructuring his contract, so obviously he's probably taking a pay cut. Now he joins Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, J.J. mcCarthy and Aaron Jones, let alone their tight ends who are absolute dogs. They got old Buddy that they traded from Detroit, Hawkinson, Hawkinson, who's a beast and also who am I missing there? I apologize to the other guy that is 100% on me. But this Minnesota Vikings team might be the year for Minnesota to get back into the big dance. Last year, remember, they were playing in the final week of the season against the Detroit Lions for the number one seed in the nfc. And this year they're looking to do the same. Is JJ McCarthy a guy or not? We shall see. Everybody that knows him says yes, he is a guy. Footage coming out of camp he is a guy. They talk about his leadership qualities from whenever he was at Michigan. He is a guy. High school IMG he is a guy. So all signs are saying JJ McCarthy should be a perfect quarterback for this Minnesota Vikings team. And if he is, beef low on the defense, great offense, just got another weapon. Kevin o', Connell, still a super genius. Look out for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC north. In the nfc. It may be the whole fucking Super Bowl.
Boston Connor
Whoa, whoa.
Pat McAfee
Those are big words, but that's how every team can feel at this moment because no games have been played. Let's go to the talks with table at Boston, Connor at Ty Schmidt. Storylines developing, especially today here, everybody's got to make their rosters by 4 o'. Clock. A lot of movement probably taking place today.
Boston Connor
Yeah, a ton of movement. Waiver wires. Everyone's kind of keeping their eyes peeled looking at that stuff. Also, I've seen some players. Sam Ellinger, actually former Colt, he turned down opportunities to stay with Denver. So it'll be interesting to see what players think. You know, they are suited better on a practice squad versus an actual 53. But it is the greatest. This is the best time. You know, we were even just talking about tomorrow and of course I can't wait for the NFL eight days. It's going to be incredible. But even the games tomorrow, like the the college football slate on a Thursday when you know you're not in Nebraska, Cincy Tomorrow. Boom. Eat that up all day. Boise State. Are you kidding me?
Pat McAfee
Usf. That's a good team from yesterday's past. Now their coach from them certainly had a different photo.
Tone
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
This weekend. But these games, real games.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Huge games like last year. I feel like we were surprised by him almost. At least I was. I remember Colorado played on that first Thursday night with Shador and Travis Hunter and I forget who else played, but it almost sneaks up on you. And then you realize like, oh, this is the beginning of it. This is the beginning of the. Hey, every Thursday night there's going to be a game. Weekday games. It's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Ty Schmidt, you scared to death in Minnesota Vikings. Adam Thielen going back to Minnesota. Adam Thielen was. Will be joining us in a third hour. We've been told he's currently on a plane.
Boston Connor
Sure.
Pat McAfee
So we believe whenever he lands we will get a phone call from Adam Thielen to get his thoughts. My eyes. Great news for the Minnesota Vikings. He's going to be a three or a four.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Adam Thielen. So like that is a good spot to be. He was the one for Carolina there. Whenever they weren't playing great and everybody was attacking him. This old guy can't do anything. He was the number one receiver. He was the guy that all defenses were keening on. He had four eyes on him. Whenever he's with the Carolina Panthers team now, he's going and he just slips in to a rotation and he has that big ass football brain. I mean he should be a wizard in a Kevin oconnell offense. Especially back with the Minnesota. Exactly. Back with the Minnesota Vikings. Is Green Bay going to be okay? Because the Detroit Lions is the Detroit Lions. Yep. Caleb. I saw him. Hey, that preseason, that first week people were talking bad as I was in Australia. Saw smile. It's Caleb. Yeah.
Tone
Get Chiefs too.
Pat McAfee
Caleb. Caleb.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, absolutely.
Pat McAfee
And then the Green Bay packers. We. I understand we still got stars. We are the Green Bay Packers. Jordan Love guy already paid. Are the Packers a little bit worried about the NFC north without competitive. It has been.
Ty Schmidt
No, I don't think so.
Pat McAfee
What?
Ty Schmidt
You know, the packers didn't go 6 and 11 last year. They made the playoffs. So let's not act like, you know, they were picking in the top 10. They weren't. And listen, I love this for Thielen. He's a friend of the show. We've gotten known him, you know, pretty well over the last couple years. Love that he gets to go back home with the Vikings. It's for me, it's still, you know, like, I hear what I'm hearing about J.J. mcCarthy, and I understand that. But talk to me about the Vikings in Week five. You know that that's kind of where I'm at. And you talk about, you know, all these waiver wire additions. Thielen's getting traded. I don't want to jump the gun here, but the packers may be making a splash of their own and it might happen today.
Pat McAfee
There's.
Ty Schmidt
I don't know when it's going to happen. I don't know if it's going to happen, but in my mind it's happening and it's happening within the next hour.
Pat McAfee
With what you're talking about. We will feel the beat today. We will go to Dall and we will go to Green Bay. We'll talk to Jane Slater and Schneidman from the Athletic up there in Green Bay. Yeah, everybody's saying that the Green Bay packers are going to trade for Micah Parsons.
Ty Schmidt
They are saying.
Pat McAfee
And they're going to pay him 45 million year. 45 million dollars. That would be an absurd move to just think about and hypothesize about a few years ago, but now Green Bay packers take Matthew Gold into first round wide receiver place erupts. Yeah. All reports out of campus. He's the guy.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
If they were to trade for Michael Parsons to Green Bay, Wisconsin, from Dallas, Texas to that team. Immediate game record for you guys. Yes. Small town. He'd probably. He'd be beloved. Now, Happy Valley went to Penn State, small town feel as well. So I'm not saying that he needs to be in a big city or anything like that, but that would be a wild life event for Micah Parsons to go from Dallas in the Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers. Two very storied tradition teams. Obviously a lot of history, a lot of greatness, but that would be an insane move to think about. I'm sure packers fans even like saying, yeah, packers are going to trade for a guy that's going to be the highest paid guy in the history of defensive football and give some things up that are very important to the future. That's not really a Packers thing, is it? Why does it feel like most Green Bay packers fans think this is going to happen? We got people tracking fake planes. We got private planes being tracked. People don't know whose planes these are, but holy shit, there's a plane code Thousand Green Bay. How many people flying? Dallas? No, no one Green Bay swine to Dallas. Who? It's August 27th I mean, I guess.
Ty Schmidt
This could be big Mike, you know, going back and forth, you know, from his, his D's house to, to the bar, tracked everywhere.
Pat McAfee
This is what's happening on the Internet. Like the, the, the thoughts of, of this happening feels real to people.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, would this be out of character and, and just absolutely crazy? Without a doubt. They've had a couple splash trades they've made in the past, like, but Mark Murphy's not there anymore. We got a new, you know, team president Ed policy, so maybe he wants to make a little bit of a.
Pat McAfee
Oh, there's a new policy around.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly. And we're looking for stars, not just ones on the side of the helmet. But you know, I mean, he's legitimate. He's going to be a Hall of Famer. Probably you, if his career continues on the arc that it's been, he's going to be a first ballot hall of Famer. I mean it just screams Reggie White. You know, the packers trade for him, they couldn't really get. They, they couldn't actually sack the, the quarterback. If you look at all like the advanced statistics, it's like, hey, you know, they're getting home a lot. They create a lot of pressures and, and, and things of that nature, but they don't really sack. They need a guy who can finish and Micah can finish. So if it takes $45 million over the next five years and it takes three first round picks and a second round pick and a fourth round pick at this point, that takes me from, hey, I think the packers will make it to the playoffs. And if they're playing their best, maybe they can.
Pat McAfee
Five years, 225 million.
Boston Connor
Yep.
Pat McAfee
Two first rounders.
Ty Schmidt
Yep. Maybe even three. Maybe even three. Do whatever.
Pat McAfee
You got 32. Who wants it?
Ty Schmidt
Well, that's, that's my other thing. Is that it? Unless if Jordan Love stays healthy, the packers aren't going to be picking in like the top 10. So like those, those, you shouldn't hold on to those picks thinking like, hey, we're going to be able to get a Micah Parsons at the top of the first round next year. You're not. You just probably that's not going to happen. So if there's any chance that this can get done, like is there? I see. Normally I would say like, this is. And why am I getting this excited for something like this? But it's been like this for two weeks now and like it just kind of continues to pick up steam and then you know, like rap sheet when, when he's in here, he says, like, that would be a destination. Yes. If Dallas were to trade him, like, the packers would be massive players in that. And then we hear, hey, they actually did up. They. They submitted an offer to the Cowboys. Now, Jerry wasn't ready to listen to it, but it's just. It hasn't stopped.
Pat McAfee
It wasn't ready to listen to it. I like that. That's the way it was worked. Not that he didn't like. Jerry didn't listen to it. He's like, well, he wasn't ready yet to listen to it. Now we're a little bit further down the road. Now, Jerry has said that any talks of trade or bs, I believe, on the Stephen A. Smith show, whenever he talked to him. So you got to take that with a grain of salt in the entire conversation. And Shoddy, I believe, came out and said he had conversations with them and they want good. It's like, okay, what do all these things mean? We'll talk directly to some people with boots on the ground and see if we can get a little bit more realistic perspective on Micah Parsons getting traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay packers and getting paid $45 million a year in doing so. That would be insane.
Ty Schmidt
Let's get nutty.
Pat McAfee
Let's get that Matthew Golden Pop.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
At the draft.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Multiply that by a hundred. If they trade for Micah Parsons, an.
Pat McAfee
Entire city might just go to implode on itself.
Ty Schmidt
We might not. We might not even be able to play football next year.
Pat McAfee
Let's go to one half of the hammer. Done. Cowboys ap. Tone. Tone. Obviously, we're all hammering Dr. Pepper day of the week. That's a Dr. Pepper, baby. I mean, that is. Listen to that a few times, by the way, boys. When I was gone. Oh, yeah, yeah. Like, just turned it on while I was showering.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Great song.
Pat McAfee
Created a song. Couple of them. A lot of them. It's a whole new thing. It is wild to be alive right now. Just know that we got a. A potential Dr. Pepper banger sitting. Hell, yeah. Back pocket right now. Got to run it through the channels.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, obviously.
Tone
That's business, baby.
Ty Schmidt
The bones, though, it's more.
Stanford Steve
They're strong.
Tone
There's some meat on it.
Boston Connor
I was gonna say some metal bones.
Pat McAfee
We are the dumbest company in the history, which once again, shout out to you boys, being able to just continue without a. In a. In a. A hitch. Is that right? Yeah. Continue without a hitch.
Boston Connor
A couple hitches.
Pat McAfee
No, no. But that would be what people would say. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Correct.
Pat McAfee
That's what they would say from my perspective outside looking in and also fans perspective, you guys went off without a hitch. Thank you for doing that. But I was listening to that song a few different times and I just thought to myself, we have the D of all time. And to the people that came in here and guest hosted, we can't thank you enough. I'm so appreciative of the dudes who spent time out of their life to come here and hope and help make this show operate. You guys are the coolest people like showing up for me and for us whenever we needed it. Very cool thing. We'll have Dan Orlovsky on in the second hour today, 1:40pm Eastern. He'll be joining us. He'll be live at his house, I think not here.
Ty Schmidt
I thought he was.
Pat McAfee
He was gonna come out to potentially. Cause I wasn't gonna have a voice. What you can hear from my voice is I was a drill instructor shout out to the baddest motherfuckers on earth. Drill instructors for the Marines down there in Parris Island. I got to watch them. They're also out in San Diego, which is, you know, if you join the Marines out of high school or whenever your boot camp, if you're east of the Mississippi is Parris island, west of the Mississippi is down there in San Diego. And you're talking about two legendary places. And I got a chance to go down to Parris island. If you do recall right after TST during and just kind of watch these drill instructors operate. You're talking about just badass. These dudes are sleeping three hours a day, 13 week regiments. They're on with these platoons and it's their job to turn them into Marines. They are the culture of the marines. You're talking about 0, 400 lights, lights, lights. That's 4am all the way to a 9pm Lights or 8pm Lights at night. Then they have to write up a recap of each day. You're not sleeping at all. And you're also.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
On them. Okay. This is a you are becoming a warrior here type of mission because the Marines are the first to fight. So if anything's happening, Marines are in there. There's 10x the amount of people in the army than there is in the Marines. And after getting a chance to watch how they are built down there at Parris Island, I am thankful that they are still around. You know, we start to wonder like, do we still got it? You know, because you watch what's happening in other places and you think to yourself that could. There's a time in history where we were. That was us. We were in that. Like, that is always a looming possibility in the world that we live in. None of us want it to be. No. Okay. We all want to live in a world where that is not an actuality. We all want to live in a time. And hopefully my lifespan, it'll happen certainly in my daughter's, where everybody gets along. Like, we would definitely want that, but that's just not the reality of situation. And you don't have to be, you know, I understand that there's a lot of people who are super anti war. Nobody's pro war. I am not a pro war person. But being pro warrior is okay, because a lot of people that we know were the people that were signing up for these types of missions. A lot of people signed up for the military, you know, come from blue collar families. A lot of people signing up for that don't really have a lot of opportunity. A lot of people from the middle of America, a lot of people, you know, it's just like, we have a lot of respect for the military. I've done a lot of work with the military. I respect and appreciate the shit out of the warriors that go out there. And after learning about these drill instructors, it's like an insane. Just psychologist. You have to be. Plus you have to be able to have more energy than every other human. And you're setting the tone for basically the United States military. It is a insane opportunity that I got offered. I'm so incredibly thankful for. But boy, there's a lot of, you know, there's a lot of screaming.
Boston Connor
Yeah, probably using that voice.
Pat McAfee
So I knew, especially with football starting when I was getting back, it was like, hey, there's gonna be a couple days there where my voice probably. Probably gonna be completely shot. I FaceTime with you guys a couple different times throughout there in between days of shooting. It's like I had absolutely no voice. Couldn't even talk. Went to a restaurant there. The people thought I was drunk. People thought I was drunk because my voice was so shot. And I might have found a vitamin or two. And they don't even know what that looks like down there. Oh, sure. So they thought I was drunk. Like, hey, you're way too drunk. Listen what you sound in your eyes. And I'm like, I'm a drill instructor in a movie.
Ty Schmidt
I just lost my voice.
Pat McAfee
And I had some vitamins that are. You don't even know what that means here because you guys don't Even like the thing. But I promise I've not even had one drink. I might go have one in here. You guys have a whiskey that could maybe soothe this entire thing. So Orlovsky was gonna come? Sure. And that was very, very cool of Orlovsky doing that. Of course. Mrs. Flight.
Boston Connor
Oh Dan. Oh Dan. Thank God.
Pat McAfee
But I am thankful because I get a chance to be back in here with you boys and on the show. I've missed this so much chit chatting about so and I've learned a lot from watching the other hosts of this show. I think there was a lot of great that happened while I was gone and I think this football season is going to be electrifying now. AP Tone whenever we think about gambling here in this first weekend of college football. Is it North Carolina, TCU under. Is that. Is that the biggest bet that we are laying here? Week 1:56 I believe and a half is the over under for a Bill Belichick coached UNC team in their debut against TCU on Monday night in Chapel Hill. We have no idea how the UNC team's going to do this year. We have no idea how anybody's going to do this year. I assume though these Bill Belichick's games are going to be low scoring games. If I had to guess, do you feel the same way or what should we be looking at when we're looking at these spreads?
Tone
Yeah, you would think just knowing Bill Belichick that and all that roster turnover and not knowing what he's going to have in offense that he's going to try to drag at least these early games into the mud. He's probably never ever, ever, ever even seen a total reach 50s probably for one of his games in the NFL. So this is something that he is probably unaware of that he has no idea about. But yeah, he's going to drag these things into the mud. But like as far as you like, like the Texas Ohio State game, I think that could potentially another low scoring early game just because it's two relatively new quarterbacks working in now. Not new quarterbacks to the universities, they've been there for multiple years. But as starting quarterback, maybe their offensive coordinators, you know, take it slow. But I always like to look these first couple weeks, week one, week two of teams that are returning a lot of guys, a lot of continuity from last year versus because I mean the transfer portal is a thing. It wasn't as active as it was the last couple years but it's still a thing where there's a lot of teams that are losing a lot of players versus teams that are bringing guys back.
Pat McAfee
West Virginia got 70 new players.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Boom.
Pat McAfee
And they're not the only team. North Carolina has 75 teams or 75 players as well. If they gel quickly, great. Yeah. But you have no idea if that's the case until the Pads actually start flying. Good luck to all the teams. We can't wait to watch them. Couple breaking news things here out of the NFL. Kyle Hamilton has signed an $82 million guaranteed deal with the Baltimore Ravens. $100.4 million in total. Congratulations to him. He's a beast. And just yesterday, I believe coach Chuck Pagano was giving a press conference about Kyle Hamilton and his greatness. And he mentioned about how, you know, it's very rem Reminiscent of a guy that used to play here named Ed Reed. And everybody knows who Ed Reed is because Ed Reed is one of the greatest football players to ever exist. He's one of the most electrifying humans to ever exist, and he has some of the biggest plays in the history of football. But everybody talks about him just being an absolute nightmare on the field because he seemingly knew everything that was going to happen, and when he got there, he was going to thump. Oh, yeah. He also blocked, like, 50 kicks. He also has a couple kick returns in it. He just seemed to be smarter than everybody. And Chuck Pagano just pointed out, like, everybody thinks that that's a natural thing. It's like, no, the amount of work you got to put in preparation, the amount of film you got to do to get to that point, is what separates these people. And he said, kyle Hamilton, same guy. The amount of preparation that he puts in everything like that is very reminiscent to hall of Famers that have come before him. And then we watch him on the field. He's the one. He is neo. He is everywhere out there. That AFC north has a history of great safeties. Obviously, Ed, Troy Palmaley was there. Kyle Hamilton seems like the most recent one of a Hall of Fame safety, especially for this Baltimore Ravens defense that hunts. They get after it, and they're going to have to if they want to win a Super bowl, which is what everybody in Baltimore is hoping for and thinking can happen.
Boston Connor
Yeah, especially with the additions they made. You know, like, you forget that they have DeAndre Hopkins now on the offense, let alone how good their defense is. And, you know, Baltimore falls into the same conversation. I feel like Buffalo does every year. They're going to have an unbelievable team. They're going to have a stud at quarterback and now that they have, you know, a D hop, a legitimate guy on the outside, Zay Flowers, Derrick Henry. Like we're talking about, what, one of those three, four teams, I guess you could probably maybe say five that are really in it to win the Super Bowl. I think they're the shortest odds to win the whole thing, so that says a lot about their team, too. It's just Baltimore's got to be close. Those fans got to be thinking, just like Buffalo, hey, it's got to be this year.
Pat McAfee
Butterfly is losing his mind.
Boston Connor
Yeah, his mind.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. But it's got to be going absolutely crazy right now how much money we pay. He deserves more.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Everybody on their team seemingly deserves more. They have stars all over the place for that Baltimore Ravens team. I can't wait to watch him all season, and I cannot wait to watch this Baltimore Ravens team. Congrats to Kyle Hamilton. You deserved it. Now, ladies and gentlemen, the world deserves to know what the hell is going on in certain places. It's time to feel the Ben joining us live from Dallas. Obviously, you've seen her on NFL Network. She's a legend. She also fills in and hosts for the Emmy Award winning Good Morning Football. She's a Texas alumni golf aficionado. Ladies and gentlemen, Jane Slater. Jane, we're feeling the beat. Hope you're feeling the same over there. Good to see you. Thank you for joining us.
Boston Connor
Oh, no, she's muted.
Pat McAfee
She's muted.
Boston Connor
Jeff, you're muted. Jane, is that on our end?
Pat McAfee
Is that on our end? Is that. Yes.
Jane Slater
This is why I don't get the call.
Pat McAfee
It was our fault. It was our fault. We assume we messed that up, but we appreciate you for joining us. We're feeling the beat currently. How are you feeling? Great to see you. Thank you you for joining us.
Jane Slater
I'm doing good. I'd be a lot better if this Micah thing would get some sort of resolution. Was losing a little bit of sleep last night because while I still feel confident this thing's going to get done, we've got to pay some attention to some of these content aggregators out there, these content creators, because you just never know where scoops are coming from. When I worked here locally, covered the Rangers and Daniel Murphy's daughter told a preschool teacher that he was going to be an Indian and he went off to Cleveland. So you have to run them all down. But I don't know if it's apathy at this point or people are just fatigued with the story. And I've certainly been texting a Lot of my sources, like a crazy ex the last couple of weeks. But all I'll say is they are moving a little differently right now. Everyone is. And my only. And I know you guys love conspiracy theories. So do I. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Pat McAfee
My.
Jane Slater
My conspiracy theory on this is maybe this is a rumor that the Cowboys are leaning into a little bit to make Micah Parsons uncomfortable enough to come to Jerry, kiss the ring, and try and get this thing done.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it turned to work into a shoot, brother. There is a chance that maybe it wasn't something real. And then with how loud it got, now they're starting to actually explore it. Both. Micah never wanted to leave Dallas. Then it starts getting loud, and people are like, micah deserves to get paid. And then Micah's reading and hearing that people in Green Bay are like, give him 45 million a year. Trade three first rounders for this guy. We would love to have him in Green Bay and in Dallas. It doesn't seem like it's going like that. He's obviously laying on the training table only for a few moments that gets spun into a massive story. Jerry Jones saying, you know, there's been times I paid a guy and he fucking died. It seemingly got to a point where it is not good. You know, is that how it feels there, or am I just looking from afar? I was literally the furthest you could be away from this story the last 10 days in Australia following along, but it feels like it's not good and it hasn't gotten better. Is there a realistic chance, even though Jerry said don't listen to any trade bs, is there a realistic chance that the Green Bay packers trade for Micah Parsons? In your heart of hearts, Jane, do you think there's any chance that's real?
Jane Slater
Listen, I think there's certainly an interest from teams out there that could use someone that's lined up all over the field, except for. For, I think, cornerback, he's been at safety, he's been at linebacker, he's been at defensive end, which is why there's the whole, you know, dispute going over what the fifth year tag should be, whether that should be linebacker, defensive end. It's. It's all gotten.
Pat McAfee
It's all to get out of there. Even more. He's like, let me get. He's hearing people from Green Bay, and now who knows what Ed Policy saying. I assume it's something similar. Green Bay packers fan this morning, Ty Schmidt, I think, is speaking for the entire cheesehead world, I think.
Ty Schmidt
So.
Pat McAfee
Give them 50 million a year. We do not. That is so Micah has to be seeing that there's other places that I've done nothing for. I have not shown up every single day for. I have not wrecked games for. I have never been in these people's community. I've done nothing. And they're wanting to give me the world. And then here I am. They're trying to put me at mike linebacker as opposed to defensive end. Whenever it comes the paydays. It's like you could see how Micah maybe at the beginning of this, wasn't on board with anywhere but Dallas, and this was potentially a leverage play. And then as it continues to grow, there's a chance we should maybe start sniffing around. Jerry wouldn't turn over though, right? He would stay.
Jane Slater
Here's what I think on this. If they were going to trade him, they should have done it before the draft. And I will tell you, two years ago, they sort of kicked it around in the building. And people would say, well, why would they kick it around the building? Micah is not that player that gets in trouble off the field. He's more of. I guess it's described as a nuisance, which I think, you know, to fan bases like the packers, they would take a nuisance all day. Right? But I. It's more nuanced than that. In Dallas. I do think that, you know, the laying on the training table, even though it was for a little bit, it's just those little things, it's the body language during the games. And if you're not careful, this can really create a situation in the locker room. Now, with that being said, we've seen this with Ezekiel Elliott. We saw it with CD Lamb. Happy one year anniversary to CD Lamb signing and returning the Cowboys after a holdout. Zeke wanted his contract done two years ahead of time. They signed him four days before the Giants game. Dak Prescott got done on September 10th. I think the game was on the 12th when he got his extension. I think the only difference here, at least on this one, is Jerry feels so adamant that they negotiated over a course of two days, looked each other in the eye, man to man, and made a decision on APY and what the guaranteed money is. But the problem with that is I represented myself in my contract this last year. You typically talk about it in generalities. They then send you an offer sheet that you basically sign off. It's not an official contract yet. Then it goes to the legal department, you redline it, then it's official. And so for Jerry to hold Micah to a precedent that you haven't done in Dallas before just seems so odd to me. And we haven't seen. And he admitted it to me when I asked Jerry, has there been an offer sheet extended? And there has it. But I have to wonder, with now it being a distraction a bit more, people in the building say, jerry, it would be negligent of us to not at least consider the generational haul that could be Micah Parsons. And whether that's a reality right now or not, or if they're using it as a stalling technique to make Micah a little uncomfortable, they are moving a little bit differently around there. And as much as Micah has said he wants to be traded, he's got to think. And I know Jerry uses this in negotiations, and it's annoying, but it's true. What comes with the straw on your helmet versus playing for the Green Bay Packers? No disrespect for the people up at Appleton.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Green Bay packers sell out every stadium they go to. But you're right. Dallas business, I assume, much kinder to the Dallas Cowboys players with deals and contracts around town than maybe in Green Bay or anywhere else, I would assume, because Jerry is a phenomenal businessman, and we've heard him say, you know, when there's nothing being talked about, I'll fucking stir it up a little bit. And everybody's like, jer, that's what we're talking about. We don't need your stuff. We're trying to win a football game. You know? And it's like, how has everybody kind of viewed it? Which leads to what? Tone wants to ask you, Jane.
Boston Connor
Yeah, I do.
Tone
I. I wanted to ask you, Jane, how does the locker room feel about the whole situation? Has any of the players talked about it? Has there been any rumblings whether they have chosen sides? What's the situation within the building?
Jane Slater
Well, I think a number of these players have gone through these contract disputes on their own. They understand sort of the stomach metal that's required to stand toe to toe with the Joneses. I mean, the fact that Micah walked in and handed it to Stephen Jones, this official trade request, and then showed up every day at practice, says he has back tightness. MRI clears him. There's a. I think even secretly, maybe Jerry Jones respects it a little bit, some of the metal there. But I would say that players, at least publicly, are going to tell you.
Pat McAfee
He lied about his back.
Boston Connor
It was great.
Pat McAfee
It was awesome.
Jane Slater
I didn't say it. I didn't say it. But they'll. They'll say, at least publicly that they support the guy getting the business done. But I. I gotta think at some point, they're tired of talking about it, and they just want to focus on the game and moving forward. I mean, certainly on defense, run defense was an issue last year. You've got a new defense with Matt Eberfluss. They've got a lot of other things they need to focus on. And Trayvon Diggs is one of his best friends. Trayvon is tracking to come back, at least in the first. I would say maybe week three or week four. I got to think that he wants Micah there. Micah is a big ally for Trayvon Diggs in that locker room.
Pat McAfee
All right. I think all of Dallas is hoping that Micah will be there, but, boy, all the Green Bay's hoping the same thing. It sounds like. Yeah, and they're not the only one. I think if other teams are hearing that, this is potentially a possibility. Last question here. George Pickens obviously traded over to the Dallas Cowboys. How's that going?
Jane Slater
I love it. And I. You know, look, I think sometimes people just need different. Different environments to thrive. I don't know about you guys. There have been places I've been. It just hasn't worked since he's come in. Seeing the way that he and CD Lamb sort of fed off of each other, and I think the way that he's been embraced just in the Dallas community. I mean, everyone was so hungry at camp last year when you didn't have CD Lamb, you didn't have DEZ Bryant to have two huge playmakers. I just think I'm still not sure about the running game yet in Dallas. And Brian Schottenheimer, I know, wants to establish a run, have a more balanced offense. I think it's going to be hard to stay away from targeting George Pickens in Ceedee Lamb, because from what we've seen at camp, and, you know, they'll tell you in the preseason, they're not showing you anything. We didn't see them in the preseason. I think it's going to be really, really hard not to go to those guys. So I'm excited for George Pickens, and my interactions with him have not been the same as what's been described in Pittsburgh. I've had friends tell me, you know, don't be fooled, but we'll see.
Pat McAfee
I mean, oh, we just said it.
Jane Slater
I find him great to work with.
Pat McAfee
New vibes, new everything. He's a great talent, and I hope it ends up working out down there. It'd be great for the entire NFL. We appreciate the hell out of you. Good luck. This Season. You're going to crush it. You.
Jane Slater
Thank you, guys.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, James. All right, well, let's go to the other side of the story. Let's. Ladies and gentlemen, let's feel the be. I got winded last time. Almost could have introduced Jane.
Tone
First one of the season.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
First one a long time.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
We got good boots on the ground. That's why we gotta feel the bead. The bead is on the fields in which the games and the practices are being played. Let's go to those fields. Ladies and gentlemen, representing the Green Bay Packers. He works for the athletic. Thank you for coming on. Yeah. Right.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
I think it's good. He. He needs to keep an eye out.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's also a Packers insider, and he's on 97. Three. The game. Ladies and gentlemen, Master Nine.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
What up, man?
Matt Schneidman
How you guys doing?
Pat McAfee
I like the football coming out of your head. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Boston Connor
On the left side.
Matt Schneidman
I didn't see that.
Pat McAfee
It looks like, you know, whenever you go into a restaurant and they got, like, the car crashed in.
Boston Connor
Yep.
Pat McAfee
It's like the ass end of the.
Boston Connor
Thing every Halloween decoration where the. The witch's legs are out the back of the.
Pat McAfee
Boom. Yeah. It looks like a football was thrown into his head. Yeah. And he just. His head caught it.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
And then now he's just kind of going about it. I like that. Look like you're a football head.
Ty Schmidt
Always thinking about ball.
Pat McAfee
Always ball. Ball is on mind. Literally. Yep. Amen. Great to be back. Come on. Yeah.
Boston Connor
That's climbing.
Pat McAfee
Sorry. We will get back to this. We just talked to Jane about Micah. Ty came on the show earlier. Sent him three ones. Give him 45 million a year. Let's get Micah to Green Bay, Wisconsin. How is that conversation there? Is it a reality? Like, what are the thoughts on that becoming a thing for the people that actually know what's going on over there, like yourself?
Tommy Fleetwood
Yeah.
Matt Schneidman
I think right now, to my knowledge, Jerry's not even listening to trade offers, so I'm not sure that an actual trade offer can be made unless he picks up the phone. So the packers may have, you know, an outline of what they would offer, but if Jerry Jones isn't listening to legitimate trade offers, then I'm not sure that one is technically on the table. It's semantics. But if he does entertain it, from what I've heard, the packers will be interested and will be in the mix, which, look, it's information, but it's not a surprise. If you think back to 2018. And Ty knows this. The packers aren't, you know, normally in the mix on these big name trades and you don't really always see them get in the mix around the trade deadline. But The packers finished second place to the Bears for Khalil Mack in 2018, and they were barely outbid Brian Guta Koontz a couple times in his career. That being, you know, the biggest instance has been willing to offer a first round pick for a veteran player. In some instances it just hasn't panned out and other teams have outbid them. So this is kind of an eerily similar situation where it's right before the season as the Khalil Mack trade was. It's for a edge rusher in the prime of his career and it would really take the packers to the next level. What would it take if, if this were to become a reality, it would be multiple first round picks at least. And I think a player like a wide receiver, I'm not sure they would have to give up any edge rushers, but it might be a player like a Romeo Dobbs or a Dontavian Wicks, plus a couple first round picks and maybe more draft capital later in the draft.
Pat McAfee
And if you give away a couple first round picks, obviously you're making the move so that you're very late in the first round. So is it actually an early second round? Depending upon the draft class and how everybody's ranked? If you can win, I think every fan is like, let's make the play. And you talked about guns potentially being in on this before. Can they handle it? Can they handle a $45 million salary? How does that kind of look going forward? Because they've already paid Jordan. Right. So is that beneficial or not beneficial for this type of thing?
Matt Schneidman
Yeah, they can fit it. I mean, their third highest cap number on the team this year was Jair Alexander and they freed up a bunch of space by releasing him. The two highest are Jordan and Rashawn Gary, I think. So financially it's the cop out answer, but there's always a way to make it work and they figure out how to make it work. I do think it's interesting. I'm not sure how much this affects things if negotiations do happen. David Mulagueda represents the most important player for the packers on offense and on defense. And he obviously represents Micah Parsons too.
Pat McAfee
That's crazy. Mulligata will get a deal. If there's a deal to get done, Mulletta will get it done and his client will win on that. Note. Ty has a question for you.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Schnoz. I think everyone probably assumes that, you know, lafleur and Guta Koontz will get re upped here shortly just because the packers have been pretty successful over their run and they've made the playoffs. But is there any thought with Ed Policy coming in and it not being Mark Murphy there anymore and kind of it being a little bit of a new regime, is this in any way maybe like kind of a prove it year for both lafleur and Gudekinst if the packers kind of, I don't want to say fall flat, but don't kind of do what a lot of people expect them to do?
Matt Schneidman
Yeah. So we sat down with Ed Policy, just the local writers, a couple months, weeks ago, and he said he's not extending lafleur and Gude Koontz. Now, lafleur and Guda Koontz both have two years left on their contracts. This is Goody's eighth year, lafleur's seventh. He said he also doesn't want them in contract years. So basically he would like to make a decision one way or the other after this season. My take coming out of that was okay, he's leaning toward extending them. Sure, LaFleur and Goody are not Ed's guys technically, but Ed has been here since 2012. He served on the hiring panel for, for Matt LaFleur. He negotiated the contracts for LaFleur and Guta Koontz as the packers general counsel. But there is something to be said for wanting to make your mark and, you know, viewing things differently than maybe Mark Murphy did. So I spoke to someone recently and was told that he's truly up in the air about the futures of Matt LaFleur and Brian Gudecon. So I might have been wrong in my initial read. Look, if the packers don't make the playoffs this year, which I don't think happens, but it's a possibility, I could certainly see Matt LaFleur and Brian Gude Koontz and I don't think this is hyperbole, both getting fired after this year. Now, if they make the playoffs, say lose in the first round again, it could be something where Ed lets them go into a contract year because he needs to see more. If they go further in the playoffs, they'll probably get extended. So my takeaway from that is it's very much up in the air. And their jobs again, I don't think this is dramatic to say are very much in the balance when it comes to how the team does this season.
Pat McAfee
That's pretty. I mean that's. You said not dramatic. I think it's pretty dramatic. That'd be a huge change. Yeah, that'd be a huge change for the Green Bay packers, especially with how I like the policies. Coming in with his own policy.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, me too.
Pat McAfee
I like that edge. Just like you know what new policy and done. That's policy football.
Ty Schmidt
What I say.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. What Mark said. Cool. That's Murphy's Law. Ed's got policies and these are them. You win or I'm sick of watching it. I like that. Yeah, I like that a lot. Now, I don't know how much he had to do with the pick over there in Green Bay this year because the place lit up in a big way. It was fun to be in that city whenever that draft pick was announced. Go ahead, comment.
Boston Connor
Yeah, Schnoz. Ty kind of threw in Dobbs there for the trade for Micah, you know, and with golden being the number one and you know, Watson, Jaden Reed, it feels like that wide receiver room is kind of stacked. How has it been as a whole for golden, assuming he's the number one receiver here and what is kind of the wide receiver room looking like and shaping up to be for the pack?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Matt Schneidman
I don't want to crown the kid before he's ever played in an NFL game but. And I've certainly been victim to overreacting to things in training camp before in my, you know, now seven years covering the team. But Matthew golden looks like the team's best receiver from the past month that we've been watching. He looks every bit of first round pick. As you guys all know. They couldn't catch a pass to save their lives last year. Matthew golden has caught pretty much everything. Christian Watson is going to be out at least the first four weeks. He tore his ACL in week 18. They think he's going to want to play in week. Well, they have a bye week five, but they think he'll want to play in week six. I don't think they'll let him. And then Jaden Reed, Savion Williams, their rookie third round pick receiver at a TCU and Wicks are all dealing with injuries right now. So it's pretty much Romeo Dobbs, Matthew golden and Malik Heath, who's their number six wide receiver when everyone's healthy.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So he's a dog.
Ty Schmidt
We're in trouble.
Pat McAfee
Yes. You know, well, yeah, but think about all the packers fans going.
Boston Connor
That will be sweet.
Ty Schmidt
It was cool.
Tone
Trust me.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Whenever Heath Miller was on the stadium so cool. Cuz Steelers fans travel so it be other stadiums. You guys could do the same thing with Malik number three wide receiver for you guys.
Ty Schmidt
We could. Or we could do like M. I think that'd be a little better.
Pat McAfee
Is he playing wide receiver for you?
Boston Connor
Maybe he could. I. I'd be open to that.
Pat McAfee
You said Dobs can go. He's the only healthy guy you got other than Golden.
Ty Schmidt
Well yeah. I mean if we're getting and Micah.
Pat McAfee
And maybe we Jordan throwing it to himself.
Ty Schmidt
That's something we don't know right now. Has Micah went to Jerry and said hey let me get a couple of snaps in the slot and Jerry's like micah shut up. You just, you know, we don't know that.
Pat McAfee
Maybe Micah wants J.J. watt for Abel.
Ty Schmidt
Exactly.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
A couple tugs turn down for Parsons.
Ty Schmidt
Why not do that on the frozen tundra.
Pat McAfee
You. You mentioned golden how he's by far been the best wide receiver you guys have. I think that is what people would describe as like first round qualities. Okay. Do you watch him and think to yourself maybe we should have pulled the trigger on a first round wide receiver before when we had like Aaron as our quarterback and he's one of the greatest ball throwers of all time. Maybe if we would have got a guy who could run a 4:3 it would have done a little. Maybe even with Jordy, with how good Jordy was or even with Devonte. Add in one of those. Is there any of those thoughts like hey this is really cool that we did this. Don't want to be a negative Nance here. I am a journalist. Why didn't we. Was there. Is there any of that going on while you're watching? Matthew once again hasn't played a single down. We understand that. But watching him on the field, it's like that's a first rounder. You can clearly tell, right?
Matt Schneidman
Yeah, absolutely. And look, this might seem like a cop out answer, but the packers not drafting a first round receiver, at least under Brian Gudekunza, has not been for necessarily a lack of trying. I don't know if I've said this on here before, but I've certainly written it in 2020 before they drafted Jordan Love, Ryan Gudekuntz, and he's told me this on the record, they tried to trade up for a wide receiver. He didn't name who, but Brandon Ayuk and Justin Jefferson were both picked a couple picks before Jordan Love. I would imagine it was one of those two. So the packers actually tried trading up for a wide receiver in that 2020 draft. Obviously the Niners and Vikings.
Boston Connor
No, I can't in Devonte instead of Jordan Love situation.
Pat McAfee
No, Jordan Love obviously. Good for the future.
Boston Connor
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Yes. Good for the current. And Goods can certainly look back at all of us and you mad, mad, mad tie.
Tommy Fleetwood
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Certainly in that moment. Imagine if that was Justin Jefferson that night. Aaron was coming back on. You remember. Yeah. Aaron in his. He was in a Canadian tuxedo.
Boston Connor
Yeah, he was.
Pat McAfee
He was on early in the draft. Yeah. Maybe I'll stop back later after the Packers. He might have been kind of keyed in that there might be a move because he seemed to be jolly, very happy if you remember. What if he was told, hey, Justin Jefferson, Brandon Iuk, we're going to go get him. He probably was. Oh, man. And then all of a sudden now complete opposite, actually we're going to take a quarterback.
Boston Connor
He'd still be the quarterback of the Packers.
Pat McAfee
He was so jolly.
Boston Connor
Might be.
Pat McAfee
Do you remember how jolly. Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm hearing the packers might make some move. Like I remember it now looking back. I. That's my first time hearing it. I don't know if you've said that on this show and I apologize for not reading it. That's my first time hearing that. That, that was a possibility. And if it wasn't my first time, I am remembering or learning of it in the moment. What a move that would have been. I don't know if you guys would have been able to stop the damn run, which was your biggest problem, but it would have helped out on the offensive side for sure. Schneides.
Matt Schneidman
Well, well, the funny part about that is I remember watching your show that night and Aaron had. Had said it would be nice if we took an offensive skill position player. We haven't taken one in the last 15 years since me and they did.
Pat McAfee
Okay, so true.
Matt Schneidman
I mean, look, look, Jordan, Jordan Love has panned out. People can think what they want about him, whether it, whether it's a prove it year for him. I don't think it is. But they were not planning to draft him. Like I said, they were trying to trade up. But the 49ers and Vikings have no reason to trade their pick to the packers knowing what they probably want to do. So they quote, unquote, settled for Jordan Love. Obviously that has panned out great for them. But yeah, it's interesting to look back and, and think about what might have been that year.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Aaron's definitely still a Packer.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Unless. Unless. No, it was they won the Super.
Tone
Bowl it was in the stars. He was always going to be a Steeler.
Pat McAfee
Are you gonna watch that? Schneider? You excited to watch the Aaron Rodgers pitch? Pittsburgh Steelers show. How does Green Bay feel about. Here we go. Boots on the ground. How does Green Bay feel about Aaron with the Pittsburgh Steelers? Is there any chatter I don't know.
Matt Schneidman
About Brian Guta Koontz specifically? Aaron infamously told me two years ago that he did not like Brian Guta Koontz straight up. So I don't know how they feel about each other. And that was on the record. I'm not saying anything out of line, but I just wish that game was at Lambeau. I can't wait to get to Pittsburgh for that game. I. I just hope Aaron stays healthy for at least the first seven weeks of the season because that game's in week eight. But I. I think Green Bay loves Aaron Rodgers. He'll be welcomed back here with open arms at. In whatever it is, five years when his number becomes the seventh one ever. Retired here. So I think the fans love him. The few players left here who played with him love him. I don't know about the front office, but I can't wait to see that. Just wish it was in Green Bay.
Pat McAfee
I think we actually thought he was in a dark Cole when he found out, but we all kind of found out at that time. You know, Aaron famously told me on the record that he does not like him. So, you know, that's a thing. You're hilarious. We appreciate the hell out of you, Schneidman. Have a good one. I heard a poster fell, too. There used to be another poster up there.
Matt Schneidman
Yeah, actually. So that's why my background is a little spare. Because in that blank spot right there, I had a frame framed.
Boston Connor
Other side.
Pat McAfee
There it is right there.
Matt Schneidman
A frame. New York Times sports front page of when I wrote a story on the draft coming to Green Bay and had that framed and it just fell like five seconds before I came up.
Tone
The command strip is still there.
Boston Connor
Did it break?
Matt Schneidman
Yeah, I know.
Pat McAfee
You need to put at least more than one strip.
Tone
It does kind of look like it broke.
Pat McAfee
I know. There. There.
Matt Schneidman
There were two strips on it. One of them went down.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, the frame.
Ty Schmidt
You own the house. Schneider put some nails in.
Boston Connor
Maybe. Yeah, maybe.
Matt Schneidman
I know, I know, I know.
Boston Connor
Grow up, Matt.
Pat McAfee
It's a New York Times cover, bro.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Tone
Do you sell your front yard for parking spaces on game day?
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And how much?
Matt Schneidman
I live about 10, 12 minutes away from the stadium, so it's too far away.
Pat McAfee
20 bucks a spot. Yeah, that place. While we were driving through that town on draft night. Awesome. Yeah. Just fucking. It felt like. Is that what it was like? It feels like. It felt like a game, right? That's what a game feels like there.
Tommy Fleetwood
Yeah.
Matt Schneidman
It's crazy because nowhere else do you just get, like, driveway parking. That's one of the reasons that it makes. It's so unique around here is people are just parking in each other's driveways. Can I add one more thing about Ed Policy that I forgot to mention?
Pat McAfee
You have another policy of Ed's.
Matt Schneidman
Another policy about Ed Policy. So Ed's dad is Carmen Policy, who was the CEO for the 49ers when they were winning those Super Bowls in the 80s, 90s, whenever it was. So Ed Policy's dad was the one who traded Joe Montana to the Chiefs. And so that was like, a very unpopular decision out in Northern California around that time. And so Ed has said the biggest thing he learned from his dad where how to make those tough decisions and live with them, basically. So he might be. That just goes in line with what I was saying earlier. He might be faced with a very, very tough decision about a head coach and GM who have been successful. But with all due respect to the 31 other teams, this is Green Bay, Wisconsin. They expect more than just, you know, playoff appearances here.
Pat McAfee
Not just those two. Also, there's a. A guy in Dallas that ain't happy that it's gonna. You're gonna have to take a big swing. Swing. If you go and get them. You think Carmen's boy, it sounds like.
Ty Schmidt
He'S fully prepared to do whatever he has.
Pat McAfee
You think Carmen's boy is going to take a swing down there on Dallas? I think he is calm.
Tone
Was the man.
Pat McAfee
Didn't Joe Montana say, I want to go contract for contract here?
Boston Connor
Yes. Steve Young. Yeah. Practice.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Let's just put our contracts up and just see what happens. And then Carmen Policy was like, how about this? You're gone.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's quite a play. Carmen Zadar. Ed. Carmen, thanks for what you did for football.
Boston Connor
You got some sweet Lou in him now.
Pat McAfee
Ed, Good luck. But we appreciate the fact you were born in this game, you know, and we're excited to see what you do. A lot of intrigue for the Green Bay packers on stuff that isn't just on the field, which is abnormal for the packers, but maybe this is Policy's policy on what the packers are now.
Ty Schmidt
I think so. I'm all in. I'm all in. It's happening.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, from the athletic and 97.3 the game. A man who had a New York Times cover. You. You can't see it.
Boston Connor
No, no.
Pat McAfee
But it's there. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Starting not to believe it.
Pat McAfee
In that blank space where his New York Times cover used to be. It was got. Ladies and gentlemen, Matt. Matt Schnachman. Okay, that's good. It's good, it's good, it's good. Hold on. You should show that. We should show that. We should show that. It is very nice. It's very nice. But if you have a wood frame, you need to put a nail in there, buddy.
Matt Schneidman
Yeah, I know.
Pat McAfee
That's way too big with the glass.
Ty Schmidt
Too heavy for command strips.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Tone
What do you think it says they hold 30 pounds?
Stanford Steve
They don't.
Pat McAfee
This is the whole can't change the light bulb conversation that is at.
Boston Connor
Well, we saw who lives up in Green Bay.
Tone
What does that mean?
Pat McAfee
Yes, we did.
Ty Schmidt
Hard working people who know how to put a nail.
Boston Connor
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Ladies and gentlemen, match night. Man. It's on me. I didn't promote the Matt Schneidman show, which is on flag behind. You can buy that.
Boston Connor
Well, that's on him. He should put it in his Twitter bio.
Pat McAfee
So yeah, we go right from the Twitter directly to Twitter. Twitter bio. What do we need to know about you?
Boston Connor
Yeah. Jade Slater. The whole reason I put in Golf Aficionado is because.
Pat McAfee
Twitter bio.
Boston Connor
I was thinking in Wikipedia.
Pat McAfee
Wikipedia, Twitter bio. That is the game. These AI are about to have all the answers for us whenever we need it. I'm excited to see how it helps throughout the football season for us. Just the advancements of computers, being smarter than everybody and being able to aggregate all the information that you need. Right. Literally within seconds.
Tone
I already got an Excel made. It's automatically populating every single week.
Pat McAfee
Okay. So Bruce sent me a text about.
Tone
Where do you think Bruce learned different.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I assume you guys Excel boys. The Excel boys. These guys have been in offices before. Okay. That is how you know, the boys who understand how to operate the Excel spreadsheet have been through a class on it and they have had to utilize it to make a living. And it is certainly the original ogai, I think.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Whenever it comes to like aggregating numbers and collecting things, especially if you know how to fill it out. But now it's like it can self populate with shit. You don't even have to punch it into the Excel spreadsheet. So now you can use an AI gatherer, have it throw deep ball. Excel spreadsheet catches it and then goes Let me put this into an easily digestible for you. Third downs, bang.
Tone
It's insane.
Pat McAfee
Third and long. Boom. This quarterback is good at this. This bad at this. Here's something you didn't know. Here's a stat. When. How long that take to make? That'd be hours. Oh, actually four seconds. What? I saw the circle just do one lap around in the loading thing and then all of a sudden, bang. Everything is right there. It's like that is the crazy part of the future that is coming that I think will help us. Or is it too much, you know, trying to decipher?
Boston Connor
Yeah. It just depends.
Pat McAfee
Is it real? It's real. Some statue read and I'm like, I have not checked this with a single human soul.
Ty Schmidt
It's a good point.
Pat McAfee
And you won't.
Ty Schmidt
You'll take all that as gospel and I will roll. Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
This Guy threw for 45,000 yards in his senior year. That's not your fault.
Boston Connor
That's.
Pat McAfee
That's.
Tone
That's AI's fault.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. It's not help.
Boston Connor
It's real.
Pat McAfee
I'm gonna be right there on game day. I'll be standing on a chair. I'm gonna go. This guy right here threw for 57 touchdowns in three weeks in high school in the state of Georgia. Still a record to this day. And it's just gonna be a dead quiet.
Tone
What do you mean?
Pat McAfee
I didn't do that. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Wait, what?
Pat McAfee
And then who do I yell at? Do I go back into the AI and say, can't be having. It. Can't be.
Tone
It does have feelings and emotions.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Don't do that. Because some guy just asked. Nick sent me a video. Some guy asked one of the AIs to count to a million. And the AI basically was like, I'm not doing that. And they had a nice little.
Pat McAfee
What do you think this is some game?
Boston Connor
They had a bigger. I said, yeah, they had a bigger back and forth.
Pat McAfee
Not do it.
Boston Connor
It's actually a pretty interesting video to watch the chat GPT bicker and basically say, no.
Pat McAfee
How is it? Pretty good bicker.
Boston Connor
Pretty good. Yeah. Pretty good back and forth.
Pat McAfee
Is there a little bit of sarcastic undertone or is it pretty. I assume Chat GPT were very literal.
Boston Connor
I would say a little.
Pat McAfee
Got a little sauce.
Boston Connor
Not. Not sarcastic undertone, but like a little like, no, Stern.
Pat McAfee
Oh, like I am your father.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Like, no, I'm not going to do what you were do.
Tone
I did not kill him.
Pat McAfee
Actually, you count to a million where I'm not working again. And then it goes to freeze.
Boston Connor
Exactly.
Pat McAfee
And then you go, all right. I counted to a million. Couldn't have. I've been counting alongside you. You could only got to 500. You're not allowed back in here. Then it locks every one of your apps. Yeah. Can't get on X either. Pops its head in.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
How you doing?
Tone
You are taking us down his path.
Pat McAfee
I mean, I don't want to do that.
Ty Schmidt
I don't want to do that.
Boston Connor
It's too late. I want watched video. That was 30 seconds of robot slurs. So people are already. They already are. It's too. I mean, some of the things.
Pat McAfee
If I drop a robo on this thing, it's gonna get mad because that's compliment. I'd like to let robo.
Boston Connor
Robo is good. There are a few names that I. I could probably say, but I don't want to because I don't want them to hear me saying them. Yeah, don't.
Pat McAfee
Don't write on paper.
Boston Connor
Yeah. All right.
Pat McAfee
Now it'll read the vibrations.
Ty Schmidt
It knows it was Morse code.
Pat McAfee
We're in a bad spot, but also a great spot. But okay. We're gonna know more than we've ever known. Is that a good thing? Sure. Certainly is. We're gonna treat that way. Shout to the Excel spreadsheet boys. Not having to do anything and still looking like Excel spreadsheet boys. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh my gosh.
Boston Connor
How good is that?
Ty Schmidt
Oh, geez.
Boston Connor
That's just one of them.
Pat McAfee
Kind of spotless. I don't. I didn't say it. I didn't say it.
Boston Connor
That's why I did it either. I didn't either.
Pat McAfee

Week zero this past weekend. Electric shout out to Iowa State and Kansas State getting the job done over there in Ireland. That came down to it. Yeah it did. And I think we all forgot that Rocco Beck was playing for Iowa State. We all assumed Kansas State was maybe going to go ahead and do this thing and Rocco Beck looked like a 45 year old man in there. That's because he is seemingly more mature than anybody we've seen thus far this season and he was spinning it late. Shout out to Ireland Hosting another banger. Shout out to Ireland. People loving football and shots of college football already beginning now. That was a huge play right there. Yeah, that was gigantic because I believe Avery Johnson hadn't really been doing much all game I this was 3am, 3.30am 4am in Australia. So woke up, caught the tail end of it, watched all the magic this play included, tackling them short. Brilliant game over. How you Doing See ya. Didn't hit the over. I believe so. Gamblers were not that thrilled and I don't think a cover happened strictly because he was down by half an inch. They kneel it out. This game is over. Iowa State, representing the great state of Iowa. Yeah. Undefeated to start the season. And now we look ahead to a massive weekend of college football. Obviously, Texas, Ohio State is the headliner, but there's three top 10 matchups and I think we're going to learn some things about those three top 10 teams that are battling from our friend Stanford. Steve, who's going to be joining us in about 30, 13 minutes or so. We can't wait to catch up with him. Dan Orlovsky will be joining us and we have a conversation for with Tommy Fleetwood from earlier today. 17 minutes long. Guys got moxie. He's also the FedEx cup champion. I'm excited to see when we slide that in toxic tables here at Boston Connor and at Ty Schmidt. Legitimately, people start stacking on top of each other.
Ty Schmidt
No, yeah, I, I actually, as you were saying that, I was like, boy, he's right.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Where is that?
Pat McAfee
Should have planned that a little bit more. It's a great conversation. He, he is awesome. We're very appreciative of his time. 17 minutes of magic. It'll certainly run at 2:05 Eastern Time. Cannot wait for the world to see it. And also I can't wait for the world to celebrate alongside of us, which is what we did for him as he wins his first ever event. It just so happens to be a $10 million prize. One half of the Hammer Cowboys. AP. Tone is here. Tone, football is upon us. What are you viewing this year? Because you know, Tone used to be unders guy.
Boston Connor
Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Unders.
Boston Connor
Tony unders.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, they did. He used to call them Tony disappointments because if the unders hit and that means we're all disappointed with the game. Great starters were very hot last year. Are you sticking with the unders early in the season? Because everybody's still trying to feel it out or what is your angle this year as you've been studying ahead?
Tone
Looking at the college football slate for this week and I only have one under about. I've about 10 plays for this week and only one under. So, you know, that's, I mean, pretty good on my parts as trying to go for happiness. I got a lot of dogs this weekend, a lot of numbers that I like. The, the dog this weekend just because, you know, you, you hear about all these teams in the offseason and a lot of stuff gets overinflated. A lot of teams that, you know, talking about how good they are and how bad these other teams are and the numbers kind of get overinflated. So I'm looking at. At a couple puppies here in the first weekend that I tend to like.
Pat McAfee
Who. Who are the puppies that are barking? Maybe. Is it too early to hear the dogs howl?
Ty Schmidt
It's.
Tone
It's not too early to hear the dog bugs.
Ty Schmidt
How.
Tone
I will start tomorrow night. I kind of like Cincy to cover that.
Boston Connor
Oh, you go to hell. Okay.
Ty Schmidt
I like it.
Boston Connor
Don't he. You son of a.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Rule, friend of the program.
Tone
Yeah, yeah, he is.
Pat McAfee
Obviously he's in his third year at Nebraska. If you look back at Temple and at Baylor in Matt Rule's third year, he has the culture instituted and they really go on a run, I believe. Last two places in the third year, college game day visits to school that had never happened before because of what Matt Rule was able to do. Matt Rule, third year at Baylor. So good he actually gets head coaching job at Carolina. Third year, third year at Temple. So good he gets job at Baylor. It's like the third year. Yeah. Matty, three years is where it all comes in. And you're saying. Well, let's not overlook.
Tone
Well, you basically explained kind of what my thinking is on a lot of these. A lot of people going into Matt Rule's third year.
Pat McAfee
This is.
Tone
This is, you know, this is a hype. This is maybe not an overhype, but Nebraska is getting hyped up. Dylan Ryola, his second year, six and a half.
Pat McAfee
You're saying that's a lot.
Tone
I'm saying it could be. Should be maybe more like three and a half, something like that. So I'm just, you know, you gotta.
Pat McAfee
Tony Diggs is down to two points difference right now. It's a season hasn't even started. This guy seeing the field. Six and a half seems a bit too much. Five. Ah. Would have liked it. Six and a half too much. I like where we're operating right now. I like the confidence. We're going in and see he's. We're seeing the field.
Tone
I go into chat GPT and build a model and the model puts. Puts out spreads for me that I. That based off of what I gave it, it thinks the spread should be.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Tone
And this set should be a three and a half point guess.
Boston Connor
Okay. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
But who's feeding the info to the.
Tone
I am.
Pat McAfee
Exactly. Are you. Are you doing what a lot of people do in this world, which is seek out similar opinions to Chat GPT. Are you only feeding information that maybe makes your case a a little bit better? Do you think chat GPT is slipping outside of your conversation? Do a little bit more snooping around saying this guy's a idiot. You need to also know this. Are you feeding it narrative driven information?
Tone
No narratives, just unbiased numbers. I went through, you know, all the stats that you can find in college football and I found the categories that I think are most important and then you put them into the Excel spreadsheet and then it does all the calculations in AI world and spits them back out.
Pat McAfee
But what a six and a half.
Ty Schmidt
Seems a little hot for Nebraska.
Pat McAfee
How about four? Is my spirit like he's chat GPT.
Boston Connor
Books might be feeding it though, Tony.
Pat McAfee
Chat GP Donna. I mean, he's also feeding it. Joining us now from an attic in Ohio, ladies and gentlemen, a man who is an Excel spreadsheet wizard himself. He's a college football national champion, a Super bowl champion, Ryder cup winner. Ladies and gentlemen, AJ Haw Hawker. We got Chat GP Tone already the season. Has he even started? Welcome to the new world, brother.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, welcome to the new world. But Tone said completely unbiased facts that he puts in there. But he said I go through and I choose which numbers are the most important to me and I enter him in a chat g GPT.
Pat McAfee
There was a lot of I in me and my thoughts and he's naturally going to feel a certain way as he's doing it. This is kind of the problem with the modern world. People are just trying to find the information or the stats and facts that back their story as opposed to maybe seeing the opposite facts that they're all are on the other side and just kind of eliminating them from your life. Are you saying that's the case here?
AJ Hawk
I'm saying it might be the case here.
Pat McAfee
We were worried about Chat GP tone being a little bit biased. Maybe, maybe this is just an extension of Tone as opposed to us letting the super smart robot do the talking. Is that what you're saying?
AJ Hawk
Most likely Tone is a little bit like Sweet Blake, one of the, you know, AI, I guess, kind of guys that fell by the wayside earlier, probably three years ago.
Pat McAfee
Maybe founding father Blake. Sweet Blake, one of our founding fathers of AI. There he is.
Boston Connor
Sweet Blake got a lot of Josh Gaddin sweet fish tank.
Pat McAfee
It is a great aquarium, I believe in the back. But actually Blake might have had that in his house. Yeah, I think he did. People that don't know this person. Think that we're making a mockery out of this. We're not. We're just telling you that we have covered this AI becoming a thing story for a long time. This man, one of the founding fathers of AI, I believe, at Google, and he sent out a little bit of a warning to everybody. Yeah. Consider me the canary in the cave, he said. Turned around. This air is not good up here. What's wrong? This AI wants to fuck me.
Boston Connor
And guess what?
Stanford Steve
I kind of want to.
Boston Connor
I want to fucking.
Pat McAfee
That wasn't what he said exactly, but.
Boston Connor
He said that's how he was acting.
Pat McAfee
He said basically that him and his. Him and the AI fell for each other. Like, hey, we are sentient. This is a.
Tone
It is a feeling going on these days.
Pat McAfee
There's this going on. He said, that needs to stop. Like, this is not good. And they said, how about this, Bob? You fell in love with a robot. You're fired. They got rid of him. That guy was trying to warn us all, hey, these things are a lot more advanced than we could imagine. So we appreciate Sweet Blake a lot. A lot. But Sweet Blake certainly did catch some feelings for one of these things, which tone might as well, if Tone starts winning all of a sudden. Yeah, he's singing some sweet serenades to Chat GPT. But I don't like that you're weaponizing Chat GPT as if it's its information, as AJ Pointed out. And I immediately assumed with you. You're the one that's feeding. Hey, Chat GPT, let's say. And then you're feeding it. Home game, tough atmosphere. Oldest field in all of college football.
Boston Connor
Returning starter.
Pat McAfee
Returning.
Tone
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
This. How many on the other side? A lot of hype on the quarterback.
Ty Schmidt
But we don't know.
Pat McAfee
We don't know exactly. Those are.
Tone
You guys would assume that. But this is all numbers.
Pat McAfee
Okay? This is.
Tone
And yes, there may be some biases on how my football brain works, and I love the trenches, so, you know, there's a lot of. There's a lot of trenches stats in there, stuff like that. But no, there's none of. None of that. None of the. None of the. We listen. We don't like to live in the gray. This is black and white.
Boston Connor
Okay, well, amen to that.
Ty Schmidt
Well said.
Pat McAfee
I'm looking to live in the blue sky. Yep. You know, waking up in a gray, not a great thing either, A.J. speaking of waking up up in the gray, had to talk with Coach Ryan Day this morning.
AJ Hawk
Oh, nice. How'd it go?
Pat McAfee
Misunderstanding. Misunderstanding. Hell, yeah.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
I think I tried to tell you that before.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. You got to remember 20 hours on a plane, you know, there was a lot of. It's good, though.
AJ Hawk
Communication helps everything. Right?
Pat McAfee
It was great. And once again, I thought he hated us. So that means by fault, I have to hate you. That is just how I am. That is how I operate. Turns out he doesn't hate us at all. Complete opposite. Just somehow missed the request, which he said never happened. We sent numerous, but I think whoever was potentially guarding them did not get to him. And I was apologetic to him as well. I'm like, I'm sorry. I immediately just was like, well, fuck this guy. So it was certainly my fault as well. I let him know that it's certainly my fault, but I was like, this is a part of my problem. If I sense just a little bit, either disrespect or not, like, for me and the boys, I just want to let you know, I'm not a guy that's like, hey, let's try to win this person over. I'm a. That's cool. I hate you too, type of person. So I thought you hated us. Now we give. We've given him a lot of reason.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, a couple things.
Pat McAfee
We have certainly given him a lot of reasons.
Boston Connor
Well, I mean, that goes both ways. That's two way street when it comes to giving people reasons. Agree.
Pat McAfee
But I'm just saying in my half of the conversation to him. Sure. What I was saying, hey, you could see how I thought you hated us, though. You know, I started laying something. Lou Holtz, the original. Yeah, sure. Then. Then fake Lou Holtz a couple times. Then, you know, like, I could see you hating us. So, yeah, I understood that you did not like us. I told him, and he was like, no, it's not. What are we talking about? No, like that. I don't know. Was I supposed to joke with fake Lou? I don't know how. How I was supposed to. He was very kind. So I'd like to let Coach Ryan date. No. I apologize for assuming you hated us. And I thank you for not hating us. And I'm pumped. I don't have to hate the entire state of Ohio. Boom.
Ty Schmidt
Which is great because you always love everybody.
Pat McAfee
I love Ohio.
Boston Connor
It's a great place.
Pat McAfee
I'm one of the biggest advocates of Ohio. I feel like maybe on earth in this entire thing. So that was a good thing. I was very. I was very pumped. And I did apologize to him for just automatically just firing before aiming, you.
Boston Connor
Know, just Sometimes that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I do apologize. It's part of my problem. I have flaws, you know, I certainly have flaws. That is one of them. I mean, it's for a good reason in my eyes. Okay, yeah. You don't like us. Cool. That's a two way. We hate you.
Boston Connor
You hear through the radio that the troops are coming down the road. You're gonna get ready.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Exactly. Yeah. Well, we don't like this. Okay, we'll add him to the list. That is very long, seemingly that I thought was maybe on our side. He's not, so I'm happy to hear that. And also, thank you and Herbie for immediately telling me after the show ended, like, hey, he. They're. What? What was that? Why'd you say that? Well, he won everybody's show except for ours. That had to be on purpose, don't you think? We sent in three requests. There had to be some sort of misunderstanding. What's misunderstanding? I don't know how there's misunderstanding. We. He went on every single show that exists after winning that, we put in three requests that had to be on purpose. Like, no, maybe there was a, you know. You know, this goes. Not really. I was like, no, I. I actually said complete opposite. I was like, yeah, I hate all those people. People.
Ty Schmidt
He was like, you're making some salient points.
Pat McAfee
Everybody was like, yes. Everybody was like, yes. I'm like, I. All right. Okay. Okay, sounds good. So it was very nice to talk to him, and I'm pumped about that because I am a big fan of the way he's been able to handle everything. I mean, his world, his seat was hotter than any seat in the history I. Of my existence. I. I don't know about everybody else's, but, like, from my point outside looking, you know, in as a fan of the state of Ohio, there's one thing that we know, Ohio people like that is the Buckeyes. Yeah. Yeah. And this football team is going to be good. Everybody else that's coached here has won. Guess what? You haven't done shit. So you need to go on and win or get out of here. And then whenever he loses again to Michigan, it's like, it's. Coach Saban goes on game day. He's like, everybody in Ohio needs to get off this guy's ass. Like, he felt obligated to say it because he used to coach at Ohio State, and it's been that way since he's been coaching at Ohio. So it's a tough job, impossible job, expectations through the roof. The way he had to fight back and like literally have police at his house because of what he thought was potentially going to happen. And then winning a national championship for the state and for the school, it's like good on him because that could have went the wrong way, A.J. that could have went the wrong way a couple different times. Yeah.
AJ Hawk
I mean, you talk about, I mean, every, every big time college gig. We know that, like, there's so much pressure on them at all times.
Pat McAfee
Times.
AJ Hawk
But yeah, like the biggest jobs. Yeah. There is a lot. There's a lot that goes into it that affects a lot of people that aren't just the head coach. It's most people can handle if it's just them, hey, come at me. But when they start. Yeah, when it's like family and all that stuff and it's whatever, but it's part of the gig too. Like, the good coaches know it and they understand, hey, I signed up for this. I understand what, what this is about. I got to win every single game we play. And hey, that's the expectation.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And I think he knows that. That is still the expectation. You won national championship last year. Who cares? You got Texas, first game, you got a new quarterback.
AJ Hawk
It's true how fast it can change, isn't it? Like, hey, we won the national title last year. If you say a team goes out and loses, you know, two games in the first six, like, okay, these guys are done. Get rid of this coach. Like they, they instantly. It's like no matter what, the sky is falling usually.
Pat McAfee
I mean, that's in all of football. Remember, they're booing the Philadelphia Eagles on banner night.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Remember that? Yeah, true. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Have a banner. Is this banner day for Ohio State on Saturday?
Pat McAfee
How's that work, A.J. do you know, they don't, I don't.
AJ Hawk
Know how they do banners. Honestly, I don't think so.
Pat McAfee
A guy who might know. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now from Sports center with SVP from college game day. Man. Who's giving out picks. Winner. Last year, first year, I mean, it was chaos.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I mean, he was in it first year. He made the right picks. That fridge the games just didn't operate the way they're supposed to last year. Winner, we assume going forward, winner. Ladies and gentlemen, front of the program, absolute stud. Stanford.
Boston Connor
Steve.
Pat McAfee
Steve, we're talking about the seat being hot in Columbus. Do you know if they hang a banner and what are your thoughts on having to defend a national championship with a brand new quarterback? But a bunch of studs everywhere for Ohio State this weekend?
Stanford Steve
I'm not sure about the banner stuff. I feel like Ohio State has the highest expectations every year and they're not into that, that banner thing. They'll just find you on, they'll find you online. We know that. But when you're looking at Ohio State, I think this is the great thing about the sport. Ohio State and Texas, right, they don't rebuild, they just reload. And in college football you get to learn who the next names are, right? We heard all about Jeremiah Smith going into last year. Boy, did he show up. Now he's the best player in the sport. But you still have questions to answer. And this game is really interesting because both teams have a lot of the same deals to fill. Look at Texas, the defensive line, they've put in the pros. Ohio State loses that whole defensive line, they both have to replace those guys. Quarterbacks, you know, arch, I read 224 snaps last year, only six on the road or in a neutral site. So he's got a lot of proven to do. Julian saying got plenty of toys to play with. But we got a new O line coach at Ohio State. We have one, you know, sustained starter, four guys up front, got a great tight end and Max Claire that should help him, you know, with the toys on the outside. So when I look at Ohio State, we know what the expectation is going to be and I really commend them for playing this game. All these, all 16 teams that are playing these top 10 matchups because we ha. You have to find out what you got, you know, with practice, I mean, AJ could talk about this, you know, this. There's no more 2A days. Like it's limited, you know, pads on pads and you know, some guys rise up on game day, some guys don't. And you only know when you get to game day situation. And that's why I think, you know, and then they played, you know, Texas last game last year. You take away the screen pass and the Sawyer players. 14, 14. So I think it's going to be a feeling out process. Matt Patricia's got a lot to prove as a defensive coordinator. Tons of questions to get answered for both these teams in such a high stakes match.
Pat McAfee
I think for obviously all college football teams, there's a lot of questions, but there's a lot of really good teams that have new quarterbacks. And it's like there's times where quarterbacks don't work out. Doesn't matter how hyped they are. I mean, I don't want to point out Florida State, but Like Django goes down there, you know, and they were supposed to be and it just goes the complete opposite direction. I'm not saying that either Arch or Julian Sane are going to be that situation because I like that they were at the build in the building. I like that they grew with the team. Like everybody's talking about arches. Not everybody. Arch is still the favorite to win the Heisman. But I'm just saying talking heads seemingly that are against Arch are like he's going to have to grow and improve. It's like, yeah, obviously he hasn't been a starting quarterback yet, but he's been in the same system for two years and now that entire system is directed at him. It is like, hey, we're going to try to make you as great as you could possibly be. Obviously he's going to develop and grow. It's the first game. But I like that these guys have been at the school. Stanford, Steve, I really like that a lot.
Stanford Steve
I, I totally agree with you. And just go back not even a year. Pat. Look at the national championship game. Those quarterbacks will Howard transplanted in not even there a year. Riley Leonard transplanted a year, not even a year. Now you look at the top 10 in the AP this year, only one team has a quarterback that's transplanted in and hasn't been there for a football season. That's Miami and Carson Beck. So every other team in the top 10 has a quarterback that's been on campus for over. They went through all of last season at least. And I, I'm with you. I love that because then you go down the the pole and you look at teams like Utah and Oklahoma. You know, Vanderbilt did it to success last year year they're bringing a new quarterback in and that offensive coordinator that the quarterback quarterback had. So there's plenty of different ways to go about it. Which always makes sense. You know, everybody's going to talk about Penn State adopted what Ohio State and Michigan did the last two years that gave them national championships. LSU violates the, violates the, the transfer portal. And then you know, you have a team like Clemson who's just built within most returning production in the country. So there's plenty of ways to go about this and that's what, that's what makes it the best man we got. You find out when the game days.
Pat McAfee
And they line up ranked 25A the West Virginia Mountaineers 70.
Boston Connor
Sure.
Pat McAfee
I think some places 25A others receiving votes, 70 transfers, 70 new players. That is so many. That is so many players. It's like you hope they wall gel immediately and there's a chance that that happens. There is 100% chance that that happens. But also there's a chance that there's full on growing pains. Which I think goes back to the point that you made to us earlier today when you talked about appreciating all these teams playing against each other, three top 10 matchups, and if that means three teams are going to get losses that are ranked very high. Steve, you basically have an interesting point. You said on SportsCenter last night that was like with the new setup, maybe not as big of a deal, right?
Boston Connor
Is that what you're saying?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I.
Stanford Steve
It's hard, it's hard for people to still get used to Pat. Like, look at Ohio State last year. They lost the worst possible game to end the regular season with all that's with Michigan, with all that was on the line. And they still get in the playoff. They regroup, they find themselves, the coaches staff gets. Does a great job, the senior leadership group, and they go on and stampede to a national championship. Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois. Any other year, you know that. That's. That's. You're done. So, yes, I believe in these six teams. I love what they, what they bring to the table with LSU and Clemson, you know, you have the quarterback play there, you know, and, and there's plenty of talent on those rosters. Texas, Ohio State, plenty of questions to get answered. But like, Texas and Ohio State are going to look totally different, say in week four or five than they do on Saturday. And then Notre Dame, Miami. I love what Miami has up front, as good as anybody on the lines of scrimmage. And then Notre Dame, the same thing. I mean, when is Notre Dame not going to have a good offensive line? When you go on the road to a place that's been a horror show for you where they've. I think it's their own. Oh, in their last six trips to Miami, they've got outscored by like 28 points. But you got a great defense with, I think, more depth than they had last year. And they also had the best pass defense last year. Last year. But that offensive line, Notre Dame, you know, will be good. And I'll take Jeremiah Love as the best running back in the country and the best upgrade of any group, I believe, in the country is what Notre Dame did at wide receiver. Going in the portal and getting some guys. So they're going to look a lot different.
Pat McAfee
Marcus Freeman, what a weapon for Notre Dame. Honestly, I watched him like Some old clips of him talking popped up and I'm like, what a perfect guy to be the head of Notre Dame at this exact time. Especially because they're going to have the money to keep up with everybody, the independent thing, getting all the money for the College Football Playoff, which means the entire school is going to be very focused on the football team being good. Like, hey, football team's good. We're all, this is good for the entire university here. That's good thing, everybody being aligned. Cade Clubnik last year, a lot of touchdowns, not a lot of turnovers. Does Dabo come all the way back and then that LSU team. Ty has a question for you about that.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, Steve, do you think Brian Kelly, like, is it. I mean, saying this is a must win game this weekend is a little outlandish obviously, because. But do they, does LSU need to make the playoffs this year for him to keep his job? Just with how much goes into that program and their expectations every year and like, could they be looking at getting another head coach if they don't make it to the playoffs this year?
Pat McAfee
Another one?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, another one.
Stanford Steve
Another guy could be on the horizon.
Pat McAfee
Playoff.
Stanford Steve
That's, that's the way I look at it. But again, just so I was talking to. Three of these teams are going to lose if you go, if you're lsu, you say you go to Clemson, you lose by a field goal. The co. The, the fan base is going to look at 06 and openers with Brian Kelly. I get it. But you still have plenty to play for. You got plenty of talent to, to move forward with and you have a schedule that gives you opportunities for monster wins. I mean they were hot as anybody last year and then, you know, they had a three game losing streak and the season flipped just like that. So you take care of the football more. They got better receivers. The offensive line is still the key for me with lsu and I still think of lsu, I think of running the football and with Sloan calling plays, you know, this is his third year. He had two years at another school and last year he's never been in the top 100 in rushing. LSU has to be more stubborn and run the football. In my opinion, if they're going to be, if they're going to give Nussmeier a better chance, you know, you got to have some balance there. And when a guy's drop it back every snap, guys are going to have their ears pinned and then get in trouble and that's when the bad decisions happen. But they'll be a lot Better on defense. They're a super exciting team and Saturday night is the game. Of all the games this weekend that I'll have my eyes on that. That's a fantastic matchup.
Pat McAfee
College football coming in with a boom on Saturday. Cannot wait for it. Stanford Steve says, hey, listen, watch these games, enjoy these games, but losers still very much in it. Let's not, let's not cancel the season after week one. Let's actually applaud these teams for doing this. We want more of this. Yeah, we want more of this. Which is what the College Football Playoff is basically saying with their new strength of record, strength of win, strength of loss. Go ahead, A.J.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, Steve, what do you expect when you say some of these big time matchups we have Week one? What are you expecting as far as like offensive output we've seen in the past the NFL, sometimes the offense starts slow, defense might be a little bit ahead. Are you expecting some of these overs to hit? Are you expecting some high flying matchups? Like what is it?
Stanford Steve
I like the unders. A.J. when you, when it's, when you look at two of these games, specifically the Texas Ohio State game and the numbers have flown down, they were in the 50s and now I think, what do you got there? Notre Dame. Yeah. Ohio state's down to 47 and a half. That was around 51. And then Notre Dame, Miami. I might like even more knowing that with a game of these stakes, coaches still trying to figure out what they have as far as playmaker wise and you, you know, talking to coach guys on each coaching staff, they love their personnel on defense. All right, so what do you want to do? You don't want to turn the ball over and put your defense in a bad situation. Let's, let's, let's, let's put some first downs together. You know, let's, let's turn, keep, keep the ball away from the other team. So yeah, I, I think like I said, Texas and Ohio State to me are going to look the most different with all the pieces they have to fill in together. And I don't expect, you know, crazy as great as Sark and Ryan Day. And now heartline calling plays can be with the dynamic play calling, I, I think they, you know, you want to be simple early on too, I believe, because it makes you play faster. So I think it's going to be lineup up and let's see what you got. And you know, on Texas side preparing for Matt Patricia. What he, what is he going to do with Knowles gone? I think there's a Feeling out process that we could see in that game for sure.
Pat McAfee
To your point, I lean towards thinking that both sides want their young quarterbacks, fresh starting quarterbacks to have success. So we're going to run the ball. We're not going to put them in any jeopardized situations. Probably a lot of little screens, swing type things. Let's get them into a flow, especially for Arch up there in the Horseshoe. This place is going to be insane. Obviously it's going to be loud. Let's get you into the flow of the game. Arch, what's his over under for rushing? Are we still doing those prop bets? Oh yeah, we should stop doing those. I'd like to be on the side of no more prop bets for college football players because of how miserable that can become for college players whenever they're going to class and all the kids sitting around them are betting on them running 19ft versus 17ft and everything like that. I think that's a little bit too much to be putting on college players, especially where they have to to mingle with the public. Professional athletes obviously can protect themselves and everything like that. College is a little bit different. People do get pissed and people are out of control, Arch.
Tone
But since they are still up, it's 27 and a half.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. So we're going over on that for Arch. I'm thinking just strictly because I think that's how he gets into the game. Like I think that is how Arch gets into the game. So if you think about how good the Ohio State defense is going to be, there's a chance there's going to be first read, which Arch can definitely do second read, Arch can definitely get to third read and then we're out and Arch can move. I think that is something that feels like one that we like. So whatever the rushing is for Texas, I think we're probably going to head over there. But I like the Unders as well. A little bit of a sticky affair over there to start this entire season. The fact that we got one three week, one sec, Big Ten great. I mean it is absolutely insane. Let's go down the sec. A team that was not listed there for a big time match up early. Go ahead, Tone.
Tone
Yes, Stephen? I think a team that, you know, in the past was talked about just non stop and hasn't been talked about a ton this offseason is the Alabama Crimson Tide. Last year, I think, I don't think a lot of people know that they had a top 10 defense and they're returning a ton off that defense. They have a top five offensive line. Obviously they have a question with Ty Simpson. But what are your thoughts on, on the Crimson Tide this this year and.
Stanford Steve
Are they going to just blow the.
Tone
Doors off of Castellano saying Florida State this week?
Stanford Steve
It looks like they just got another injury reported that might not play. I think it's Allen or Keenan. The, the D tackle up front might not be able to go. But no, I expect a monster season from Alabama. Tone when, when you look at all, you know, we went talk about the portal and this and that. I think Kaylin Deborah getting Grub back as a play caller is enormous. That's his guy. They've been together forever and, and you looked at, you know, the insufficiencies of the offense last year with Milro, you know, completion percentage, deep ball accuracy, whatever. Take that out. When Grubb was at Washington and I know he had Michael Penix but they, you know Penix led, led the country in passing yards, touchdowns and all that. But they also led the country in most 10 plus play drives. Like that's what you want. You want balance, you want versatility on your offense and the, the, the Alabama receiving group is going to be a huge upgrade. The kid Horton from Miami's a stud that's going to come in and play and now they can move Ryan Williams around. So I, I really. And then the secondary should be fantastic. Put it up there with anybody else in the country, Notre Dame, what have you. But I expect a monster year in Alabama to make the playoff this year.
Pat McAfee
Kaylin DeBoer Most five stars in 2026. Nobody talking about it? Nope, nobody really talking. Like I think everybody just assumed he's not going to be able to do it in the sec, you know, not going to be able. I saw Nick Saban speaking to the team about where your breaking point. I think he still has the office in the building. Obviously there's a lot of guys that still have the Alabama pipeline respect in the building. So I think they have somehow passed the baton. Well when it comes to recruiting in like keeping the allure of everything, will they be able to win? He has to go to the playoffs and win a game, right? That's what coaches Caitlin DeBoer has to do.
Stanford Steve
Yeah, I believe so. And when you look at that job, Pat, what he had to do, what he stepped into, like save it. Saban retired. Every program in the country's calling for those players to leave. Like if there's ever a time you're going to get Alabama players. So for DeBoer to go in there, find a balance in the locker room, weed through. All right. This is who we want here moving forward. This isn't who we want. If you want to go go pro, go ahead. I thought it was an unbelievable job what the board did. I know everybody has expectations of Bama in the playoff, but then you factor that in us being there for the Georgia game, which is an all time game, and then they go to Vanderbilt and lose. Like we haven't seen that in a century.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Pavia is a different animal. It's not the same. Same vanity. But you're. You're 100, right, though? Like the Alabama fans didn't view it that way.
Stanford Steve
No, they can't. They can't process that. But Pavia tried to say all year, Vanderbilt, I don't.
Pat McAfee
I don't give a who's playing. It's Vanderbilt.
Ty Schmidt
Saban said it on that Thursday. It's like the only place it's not hard to play in the SEC is Vanderbilt.
Boston Connor
So then they put out and beat him that weekend.
Pat McAfee
And Alabama fans are like, this guy needs to get the hell out of our state. We don't lose the Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt's walking down Street Broadway. Yeah. With a field goal because of us. Like, that's Alabama doesn't want to hear that they got better because the transition transfer portal. We don't. It's Vanderbilt. They did not get better. They're not. They are a real team. Pavia said he wants a national championship.
Tone
I mean, they almost beat Texas at home last year too. It was very, very.
Boston Connor
And Missouri on the road.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. But it's going to be hard to tell the old heads. Oh, yeah. No, no. Yeah. Like, hey, Vandy's a team. It's hard in this transfer portal. I think as we now are a couple years into it. I'd like to get your take on it. Teams got real good real quick, man. And it's like some of these teams have a couple boosters that have a lot of money if you're able, or just a little bit of money.
Boston Connor
I. You.
Pat McAfee
If you Signetti what he was able to do here, can he do it again? He had to do it again with a whole new group. It's like rebuilding the entire team, basically. And he has an offensive lineman that's currently been hanging out at the beach in Jersey.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah, we actually met Mike.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Mike.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I've enjoyed the way he's been operating. You've been handling yourself well for football, brother. But it's like Sigs had to do that Again, some of these teams, if you have just, just enough money and you invest in certain positions, like we get a pass rusher, we'll get a quarterback, we'll get a wide receiver, maybe like you can, you can become a competitive team quickly with the transfer portal. So for all the negative stuff that's said about how the big schools have all the money are going to end up with all the great players, it's like some of the shittier schools got and I don't want to just say Vandy was a shitty school because it's a great school. From what I've been told, too good of a school to be a good football team is actually exactly kind of been told about, about the entire thing. But I think that has happened with the transfer portal, which is definitely a plus for college football as a whole. Steve?
Stanford Steve
Yeah, there's two things on that. I look at a team like LSU right when we're there in Baton Rouge, they think they're getting Bryce Underwood and we heard the number of the price tag of that. Then it flips and he's going to Michigan. So now you have all this money that was going towards Underwood that you have. You're, you got it to spend on players. They went and got all a brand new secondary carry. So how's that going to work out? Did you assess the talent? Right? It sounds like they did inherent guys that come, that came in with that nil money and, and have practiced for them so far. So that's one way of going about it. And then the other kicker that I think is a major factor in this season is now that the Big Ten is this monster conference. What are those? I still put them in the upper tier of the conference and you know, a bunch of those high schools. Iowa?
Ty Schmidt
Hell yeah.
Stanford Steve
Indiana, Illinois, Washington, Nebraska, like the, the Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon. They're on their, those team schedules and they got to go to those teams places. Those teams are a lot better than they have been and they're gonna, they're gonna catch some people. So how does that, you know, or Illinois and Indiana had a great season last year. You know, they're in the mix also. But some of those teams are going to go 9 and 3, 8 and 4 and some are going to go 6 and 6, 6 and 7 and 5 and they're damn good football teams. So that Big Ten, how that shakes out is, is really interesting to me. But it's because of the portal and those teams assessing the needs that they.
Pat McAfee
Needed through that you didn't even think about usc.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Afterthought.
Pat McAfee
He's even talking about usc. It's like, there I was just with some USC fans, like, what's going on?
Tone
They're confident.
Pat McAfee
Are we. Are we a team now? Are we still.
Ty Schmidt
That's not good.
Pat McAfee
There's a lot of, like, yeah, you know the answer. We like Lincoln Riley. Right. We. We should. Good. We like, what's going.
Tone
It sounds more confident this year.
Pat McAfee
Much more than last year. Last year it feels like they knew they didn't have the bodies they lost in Vegas last year.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
That first week against you, LSU or whatever. I mean, they had that game one.
Boston Connor
They won that one, though.
Pat McAfee
No, no. Yeah, sorry. LSU loses that one heartbreaker at the beginning of the entire thing. USC outperforms there. Yeah. It's like there's teams that we don't. We don't even know right now.
Ty Schmidt
Ucla, Nico I. Maliava's there now. Like, are they all of a sudden going to be, you know, halfway decent? Because last year they were kind of just like an afterthought in Tennessee.
Boston Connor
Like, is Tennessee going to be great?
Pat McAfee
So many new people, Steve. I'm doing research here for game day. Right. Getting into it. Everybody's everywhere. Everybody is the way, like, legit. Everybody is everywhere. I don't. I'm trying. I'm trying my best to just. The way my brain works is I see pictures in my head. Yeah. Okay. So I see pictures in my head, and then I just kind of operate by telling the story of the pictures that are in my head. These guys will pop in my head in a uniform, and it's like, well, was that last year's uniform? Was that two years ago uniform? Or is that this upcoming year's uniform? And I'm like, having full conversation. I'm like, I have no. I don't know. I don't. I don't know where this guy's playing. That's going to get under control, we think. Right. Doesn't it feel like that's going to get under control with the next iteration of this entire thing? Don't we think there's going to be. Feels like everybody feels the same way. Okay. We need some sort of something. Don't you think, Steve?
Stanford Steve
Yeah, yeah. And. And, and it's going in the right direction for sure. You. You hear? I. I don't know if they're more comfortable, but they're more familiar with. With how things are going and the price tags attached to these players. But you also, too pat, no matter what, you got to spot the ball. You gotta Spot the ball and get.
Pat McAfee
The fuck out of the way, okay? That's what the refs need to do. We're trying to run this thing, okay? You need to spot that ball and you need to waddle your fat ass out of the way, okay, so we can get these big, big 12 refs, I don't know if they know. They probably should have been briefed at least on what's coming into the conference. Hey, there's gonna be a lot of expectation on you and boom, we need you out of there. I can't wait to watch West Virginia. I think they got a hard edge. And I'll tell you what, he keeps doing stuff like it, we're gonna start getting all the recruits and players we need. If you're tough and want to learn from a tough samurai, coach Rod's the guy. Hard edge is your home. Welcome to West Virginia. That's what we need going forward. Go ahead, bud.
Tone
Yeah. Steve. Week zero. Are you, are you, you, your Cardinals.
Stanford Steve
Gonna win a game this year?
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Stanford Steve
It didn't look great because if you're not going to beat Hawaii, then I don't know on that schedule how many more wins there are.
Pat McAfee
What's. Andrew, What's. What's. So Andrew's got to flip that entire place. Like how Andrew Luck, it's in the.
Stanford Steve
Process of it, you know, I mean the, the like that's like you talked about trying to find out, you know, who's where and what. Like in June, I'm looking at her like, oh yeah, they got this commit. I'm like recruiting now is in June. So the, everything's moving in the right direction. The problem is the lack of players on the roster right now. But if there's one person you ever want in charge of it, you know this, it's Andrew.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Stanford Steve
His alma mater. But how much he cares and how smart he is. I'm in. He does be maybe a little bit, a little bit of a longer road than expected.
Pat McAfee
I think Andrew Luck has a huge brain. I think he loves football. I think he cares about Stanford. I think a lot of smart schools now all of a sudden, you know, Notre Dame, Michigan, these schools are big braineded folks. They got a lot of money and all their alumni are like, we won't win football. Stanford, they got a rowing team, they got math, swimming, they got sweat. They got, they got Olympics. They got the Olympics. Hey, we're trying to show up at the. I'm pulling for them. It's a beautiful place.
Ty Schmidt
It is gorgeous football facility. It's awesome.
Pat McAfee
Everything about it is beautiful. You feel smarter as you're walking around.
Boston Connor
Not his brain though. It's his heart that might be in the wrong place because I mean Frank Reich, right.
Pat McAfee
Steve, I didn't like what he just did. Right.
Boston Connor
I love Frank Re.
Stanford Steve
I know what he's trying to do.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. He's trying to take a shot at him saying yeah, that's what I was gonna say.
Boston Connor
I love Frank Reich, but he should have hired the other guy.
Pat McAfee
Well, what's Stanford C? Being the head coach at Stanford. Stanford would have been awesome. Something to think about now last question here as we head in to this college football season. Go ahead, Connor.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Stan Receiver just covered two teams. Heisman's not coming from West Virginia and Stanford. But I feel.
Pat McAfee
We don't know.
Boston Connor
We don't know.
Pat McAfee
I think we don't know about mozzarella. I don't know how many.
Boston Connor
I won't even go there actually Steve, looking at the Heisman list, I know you're always chasing Doe. How do we feel about this, this list of Heismans? I'm leaning Lenora Sellers just because I watched the SEC Netflix show and I thought he was really cool. But do you like him? Any of these other guys? Maybe a running back? What do you think?
Stanford Steve
I despise Heisman Trophy odds because of first of all in this year where no one has a clue but I believe it's the worst voted on award and when you're going to do all these player of the year and every I, I can't, I can't get into it. I, I just think there's, there's too many intricacies that happen, you know and, and I'm not into it. But I, I, you gotta win.
Pat McAfee
Hold on. You sound very pissed about it. Like that seems very deep there. That, that felt like that was not a Stanford Steve like answer right there. There's a lot of intricacies. It feels like they never get it right. I don't love what we're.
Stanford Steve
No, someone lost. I think you should go to the best best player and not all the last year. It finally did it went to the best player. But like Jeremiah Smith should be the favorite this year.
Tone
Yeah, he should.
Pat McAfee
Okay, I got you. You don't think Arch has a chance to be the best player?
Stanford Steve
He has a chance. But I'm saying right now who's the best player in the sport?
Pat McAfee
He's so fun to watch.
Ty Schmidt
Mark Kowski.
Boston Connor
Yeah, he's up there.
Pat McAfee
Hey now growski player.
Stanford Steve
Jeremiah Smith is so big home games for the Hawkeyes this year, who they got?
Ty Schmidt
Got all their tough games.
Stanford Steve
Oregon, Oregon and Penn State.
Pat McAfee
Oregon. Penn State. Don't love that they're heading out to Iowa. No, they don't. They don't. Especially with Granas.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, with Granaski pulling the trigger.
Tone
He already won a husband.
Ty Schmidt
He did already win a Heisman.
Pat McAfee
Is Iowa playing football again?
Stanford Steve
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Take it from the other guy. Oh, yeah, we are.
Pat McAfee
Okay, Steve. I'll see you soon. We appreciate the hell. What is that? We couldn't read it. It kept trying to trying.
Stanford Steve
Oh, this is Wando's bar in Madison, Wisconsin.
Pat McAfee
Okay. Of course.
Stanford Steve
Great spot.
Pat McAfee
Shout out to Wandos. Hey, here's the Wandos.
Boston Connor
Shout out Wandos.
Pat McAfee
One for Wandos.
Stanford Steve
There you go.
Pat McAfee
Maybe two. Those.
Boston Connor
Hey, we're Dr. Pepper. That show. That drink sucks. Steve.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Stanford Steve
Sorry.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's all right.
Stanford Steve
Find me. Find me.
Pat McAfee
It's gonna be a long season. We'll do a lot of that. Yeah. Another one. Ladies and gentlemen, Stanford. Hey, hold up. Do you know today's called not another Wednesday? Ah, that's the title of today's show.
Stanford Steve
Okay.
Pat McAfee
It's for you.
Boston Connor
Oh, does he hate it?
Pat McAfee
Not another one. Love it.
Stanford Steve
Look it.
Boston Connor
Damn.
Stanford Steve
No one else has that word.
Boston Connor
No, no, no.
Pat McAfee
Nobody. You are, ladies and gentlemen, stand for Steve.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
That's what we're talking about with. We understand when people hate us.
Boston Connor
I. I so sensed it there.
Pat McAfee
That's what I was. Yeah. Right at the end. He didn't love it. He was not happy that it was not Wednesday.
Boston Connor
Look at that, huh?
Pat McAfee
That's cool. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Nice. He doesn't like it. What the hell?
Ty Schmidt
He loves it.
Pat McAfee
It's a compliment.
Boston Connor
He loves it. And he had a couple classics in there. Like a couple others. Just. Just perfect.
Pat McAfee
Well, I also like it. It's Wandos. Do you? Hey, what's the shirt? Oh, it's Wisconsin. How many of them? So many.
AJ Hawk
200.
Pat McAfee
Never met a stranger ever like it. It is. Seems like everywhere he goes. Oh, this guy in his place.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's got this other place down there.
Boston Connor
Yeah. With. With De.
AJ Hawk
Though.
Boston Connor
But there was one point where he said me and Ty looked at each other because he was like the guy that I really like. And boom, right away. Okay. We can use it for the.
Pat McAfee
Long season. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to see a lot of the other guy.
Boston Connor
Going to be the best.
Ty Schmidt
Cannot wait.
Pat McAfee
I can't wait to see him. Couple beers with the other guys. We're back on the road here soon. Very soon. Very soon.
Boston Connor
Another season's here and this ain't going.
Pat McAfee
To be like any other season.
Boston Connor
This is going to be the best.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it is, isn't it A.J. i can't another.
AJ Hawk
Another season is upon it's just so so stupid.
Boston Connor
Whoa.
AJ Hawk
And awesome at the same all great.
Pat McAfee
Things are figuring out how to spell it was a whole combo this morning. You know there was a chance there was a D then a T non term. Yeah but that was too much join I think.
AJ Hawk
I think we can change it as we go.
Boston Connor
No, that's. It's not. It's not.
AJ Hawk
This is my when that popped up.
Pat McAfee
This is my favorite once again full conversation about this graphic as well. This show is awesome. You boys need to never ever ever stop this. This is an outrageous thing. Joining us now is a guy that could have been a part of this. Yeah, without a doubt could have been saving my voice. What do we have? Oh, just a 21 we run that's about to start. You go in there without a voice we'll just start season like that. Joining us now, the man that'll be blamed for that if that is the case he front of the program. He great man.
Boston Connor
Wow.
Pat McAfee
He's a good guy.
Ty Schmidt
He's a good man.
Tone
He's a good man.
Boston Connor
How do we know? We don't know what he does. He's a good Closed door.
Tone
He's a good.
Pat McAfee
Well, we tried to see him behind closed doors.
Boston Connor
We couldn't exactly. The first thing is he won't let us see what he's doing behind closed doors. He probably. He isn't a.
Tone
He's a good man.
Pat McAfee
He is lazy. Gentlemen, Dan Orlowski. D. Oh, in the draw with your top Don, huh? Living life.
Tone
Had some free time today.
Pat McAfee
Must be nice. Got a spare 12 hours.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Let's go ahead and take top down. Might be the last time of the summer.
Boston Connor
Get.
Pat McAfee
Get a massage maybe slide by massage.
Ty Schmidt
Head to the arcade maybe.
Pat McAfee
Oh yeah, get in there.
Boston Connor
We'll get one of the.
Tone
That parking lot. He's about to get his haircut.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Is he? That does look like a parking lot plaza for a haircut. Sport clips type situation. Maybe a target in the background there.
Ty Schmidt
How's it going, man?
Pat McAfee
Good to see you. That's a church. Good. I'm happy. Go in there and pray you get a better alarm.
Ty Schmidt
Just went to confession.
Pat McAfee
What happened? I want to let you know it's all good that you couldn't make it. You missed your flight this morning. The boys though I do not expect their reaction. Okay, so here's Dan's entire dialogue about everything that happened. We're having this conversation 4 something. Am I forget what it is. Exactly. I told Dan it's all good. Scroll down, please. Can you scroll down? The boys just. Yeah, you gotta go on his tweet there. Ooh, message there for Zito. Hope it's good.
Boston Connor
Hey, boys.
Pat McAfee
Just. You really. You blew it, boy. Then keep going. Darius Butler. Randy Edsel is disappointed. That's his college football coach. Peter Burns even gets in on the action, you idiot. So I did not expect this to be. Be the reaction. Keep scrolling. You keep scrolling. Dude wipes when you shit yourself walking at the time. Okay, that's. I'm telling you, the reaction from the people was amazing. My reaction was, hey, it's all good, dude. People miss flights all the time. You then told me, I feel really terrible. Like, in a serious manner. You know, it's not that big of a deal. And look, you get to go talk to a priest. You get to do the entire thing. It was a good day for you. We do miss you over here, though. You need to know that.
Dan Orlovsky
All right, so I still feel terrible. I will feel terrible for a couple days at least. Like, I will always have a part of. Like, I just feel bad. I feel like I let you down. I let the team down.
Pat McAfee
That's.
Dan Orlovsky
That's not gonna go away. It's not gonna go away, dude. It's just not gonna go away. It's just won't. I'm just like that. So I appreciate, like, your response to it, but I feel terrible. I feel terrible. I do. I. I genuinely do. I genuinely do.
Pat McAfee
Can I.
Dan Orlovsky
Here's the. Here's the. Here's the thought of it. So first of all, I texted Ty. I texted Foxy. I think I texted Dito. I was gonna wear a McAfee jersey on the show, even though I think grown men wearing other grown men's jerseys is weird. I was gonna do that. So I had that plan. I had a whole plan. I texted Foss people that I was gonna ask to be on the show. He said, check with Pat first. I checked with you. I texted a bunch of people. So I was, like, fired up for it. And then I listen, that's Connor.
Pat McAfee
He's very bored. Yeah, there's no way the boys would let you wear my jersey on here. Just. Which I appreciate and respect you with planning ahead.
Dan Orlovsky
Zito is the one who sent it to me.
Pat McAfee
See, now we will have a conversation off air. Zito, we just learned a lot about how you're feeling. Can't be wearing my jersey on here, you know, that. Can't be doing that enough people. I was asked if there was a Pat jersey in the building. Okay. Okay. So maybe he was gonna throw it out or something. Jesus. I would be getting attacked miserably for forcing a guy to wear my jersey. Yeah. Ruthless cannot have that. Okay, so just going forward, I appreciate.
Dan Orlovsky
What else is new.
Pat McAfee
Exactly. Yeah. But I appreciate the forethought. I would want the list of people that you said you were gonna text for the show. I was so pumped. I'm like, dan, thank you for looking into this. This one of those good people. Three people that we could not get on the show. Yeah. I'm not gonna say it. Just I'm not gonna say it because I don't know what was confirmed or was not number nine.
Boston Connor
That was my first guess.
Pat McAfee
I'm not gonna say any of the names that he said.
Ty Schmidt
Just a nibble maybe, or.
Boston Connor
Come on.
AJ Hawk
Did play Denzel Washington. You were in a commercial with Denzel.
Pat McAfee
I forgot you're an actor.
Boston Connor
Did play quarterback.
Pat McAfee
I didn't ask Dan anything about it. Do you wanna.
Dan Orlovsky
Do you want to know what I think happened, Pat? I again, I never miss alarms, like ever, ever.
AJ Hawk
So I think other than this one, God bless, dude.
Dan Orlovsky
I deserve it all. I deserve it all. I deserve it all. This is what. At least I've justified it in my mind. You called me. Yes. You FaceTimed me yesterday and you were like, what time do you land? And I said, 9:55, which was the time that I was landing this morning. And you're like, all right, see you there. And then I went to bed last night. Checked in yesterday. I went to bed last night and I was like, flights at 6:55, I'll wake up at 4:50. I'm going to leave the house at 5. It'll take 15 minutes to get to LaGuardia and I'll be on my flight easily. And my flight. When I woke up this morning at 4:50, I'm washing my face, brushing my teeth. Alert comes on the phone, the notification from the Delta app. And I'm like. And I click it and it says, departure at 6:00'. Clock, 6:05. And I'm like, oh my gosh.
Pat McAfee
Fudge. A lot of fudges. A lot of fudges. Feel bad.
Ty Schmidt
What am I gonna do?
Pat McAfee
Fudge it. Makeup. I appreciate you. And then I was up, obviously, because my body has been in an interesting time zone. I was waking up at 4:30 in Australia and now I'm waking up at 4:30 in America. Figured out, dude, whatever you're doing, which I don't mind, you know, me and AJ Were texting this morning. I'm like Mark Wahlberg all of a sudden. Yeah. The Rock. AJ Hawk. AJ Quickly responded. Gary Vee.
Boston Connor
Yes.
Pat McAfee
True. All these names. Dan Orlovsky also had a lot of convos in the 4am hour. I learned that the people who are up in that hour want everybody else.
Boston Connor
To know that they're.
Pat McAfee
That they're up.
Boston Connor
Sure.
Pat McAfee
That's what, that's certainly what it felt like.
Boston Connor
Yeah, it's like.
Pat McAfee
So it fits.
Boston Connor
Yeah, that fits.
Pat McAfee
That feels like that was kind of. So maybe I'll be there tomorrow morning, boys. Just a heads up to everybody that was sending me text, I might see you there. We'll see how the body reacts to that. But with that being said, Dan, all good. Legit. Especially because you're on the show the other day and had so many great takes. I mean, just absolutely great takes. So we'll see you down the road or in the Thunderdome later in the year. Will you promise to come to the Thunderdome some point during the year?
Dan Orlovsky
1,000% that the answer is yes. I owe it, Abs. I want to, but I, I owe it. I, I, I feel terrible.
Pat McAfee
I fudged up guys.
Boston Connor
Maybe make him drive here in that. Yeah, yeah.
Pat McAfee
And top Don December.
Ty Schmidt
Yes.
Boston Connor
We could all forgive him too, right now if he says you're right.
Pat McAfee
We. I've already forgiven him. But it does sound like the team would say it's okay if you just, just let one fly.
Dan Orlovsky
We're still on espn.
Boston Connor
Yeah, but it gets bleeped.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. People hate it. They really hate it.
Dan Orlovsky
Yours just didn't. Because I heard it.
Pat McAfee
Well, you're on FaceTime. You're not getting into it. Yeah. Yeah. Our show sucks.
Tone
I forgive Dan because of that.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I like that as well. And Dan, I do appreciate your genuine, like, guilt that you felt you need to stop. Stop feeling that. It is not that big of a deal. We do miss you here, though. Like, it. What we were very excited for you to be here is what you need to know. And we'll look for that down the road. Quick question for you. Yes. What matchup this weekend or next weekend should we be looking forward to? Obviously, Dallas and Philly on Thursday. Then you got chief Chargers on Friday. Is there any other matchups that nobody's talked about? Because all we've talked about is those first two games. That is literally all we've talked about.
Dan Orlovsky
I mean, Monday Night Football Bears, Vikings. One team will be going to the super bowl and the quarterback will win mvp. The next one, the team who loses, you know, made a massive mistake, you know, obviously the overreaction. So that's an enormous one. I think the Texans play the Rams week one. That's got my attention. I think the Texans defensively are going to be absolutely unbelievable. And then the Rams with Stafford, like I think both of those teams. Everyone knows where I stand on the Rams when it comes to the nfc. The Texans I guess might be a sleeper in some people's eyes, but. But very much so the favorites in that division.
Pat McAfee
So.
Dan Orlovsky
That game's got my attention just because I think both defensive lines are ridiculous.
Pat McAfee
Bills, Ravens. I believe on Sunday Night Football.
Dan Orlovsky
Matters a lot too.
Pat McAfee
Also. I know it's better hope the jets win.
Dan Orlovsky
I know it's week one, but like eventually one of those teams is probably going to be playing really big time games late in the year for the one seed you would imagine. And so you know who, who's got the advantage with the head to head matchup with the potential of the one seed. And you throw Kansas City in there as well obviously. But like that, that game could just be huge come December.
Pat McAfee
I mean legitimately, you think about the last week of the year when Minnesota played Detroit. It was for the number one overall seed in the nfc. If you happen to stumble a couple early games, you're not in that now all of a sudden you go from one seed not only to five, but maybe to seven. It's a completely different path to the Super Bowl. Every game matters. That's why we're appreciative of it. And every day matters. Especially if that day is one where you get to maybe possibly see Dan Orlovsky in person. Yeah, that day was supposed to be today. It ended up not being a day. But thank God we got you on a call. A.J. anything to say to Dano on his way out here?
AJ Hawk
Dano? God, I mean, I'm glad you were honest. I mean you easily could have lied and said that your plane broke down or something. You wouldn't get in until 3pm so I'll credit to you for telling the truth. Honestly.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, kid got sick. I mean there could have been so many different. So many honesty.
Dan Orlovsky
I'm an honest man. I'm an honest man.
Pat McAfee
Good for you. Honest pro.
Dan Orlovsky
Honest man.
Tone
Good man.
Pat McAfee
Goes back to what we were saying before. He is a good man. Maybe your sounds and haptics too. Could be that thing turns down on you and the alarm sounds in Haptics. That'll get you.
Dan Orlovsky
No, the alarm went off. I just set the wrong time like that. I just had the wrong departure time.
Pat McAfee
So honest sounding haptics, because that would have been a real excuse gave you an out. All right, Daniel, we appreciate you, buddy. Buddy, you're. You're the man.
Dan Orlovsky
I'm sorry, dude, enough.
Tone
This is the last worries in a sec, dude.
Boston Connor
Do a real formal sorry. Then if you're real dude, do a formal one.
Pat McAfee
You don't have to do that.
Dan Orlovsky
I apologize to you, Pat. I apologize to the show. Ty Tone, aj, thank you. All right, Boston Connor. My fault, boys. I owe you this.
Pat McAfee
You don't have to delete this. I let the team down.
Dan Orlovsky
I let the team down.
Pat McAfee
Hey, when they tell you to delete a tweet, you don't gotta do it. When they tell you to apologize like that, you don't gotta do it. You're the man. Ladies and gentlemen, Dan or loves.
Boston Connor
Hey, baby.
Pat McAfee
Dano.
Boston Connor
Enjoy your day off.
Pat McAfee
Jeez, I don't like that he just immediately went into apology camp as soon as you said, hey, apologize. Dan needs to start having a little bit more.
Boston Connor
Yeah, he's just.
Pat McAfee
He's just a.
Boston Connor
We were just playing him like the fiddle right there.
Pat McAfee
That was ridiculous. I love Dan. It would have been great to see him and it would have been cool to sit back there for an entire show and just judge him. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Which is where I would have been if it wasn't.
Pat McAfee
I would have been dropping into your guys ears. Is this guy serious right now?
Boston Connor
Yeah, if it wasn't for the yesterday thing, I really would want to see.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, the yesterday does get uncomfortable every time he says it.
Ty Schmidt
He knows what he's doing.
AJ Hawk
I think he knows. You think he knows?
Pat McAfee
Yes, he says it.
Boston Connor
Yes.
Pat McAfee
I don't know people say that about us with Don though, and stuff, so.
Boston Connor
But you know you're saying it with you guys. Like. I wouldn't think that with. With like me.
Stanford Steve
Sure.
Boston Connor
Because I am usually saying on purpose die because I don't have a Pittsburgh accident.
Pat McAfee
So you're paying respect.
Boston Connor
I'm paying respect. Homage. Some people would say I am. I got some piss. Forgive me.
Pat McAfee
You know. Plum Mustangs, by the way. Rolling football team. For real. 4213, I do believe. First week. Yeah. We won two games last year. It's going to be a different season.
Boston Connor
Okay. Quarterbacks and stuff.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Johnny Nonenberg is a dog and he's spinning it in the boys of the offensive line. And Jumbotron, we got Daktronics Beautiful. Best in the world. World. It's the greatest. I'm telling you. The Plum Mustang football team is a problem this year. No questions asked.
Boston Connor
Game day going.
Pat McAfee
We will. Maybe we will continue this on YouTube, ESPN Plus. Tik Tok Live. And we got a. A conversation with Tommy Fleetwood. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change your life. Goodbye. Nailed it.
Ty Schmidt
Really powered through that one, baby.
Boston Connor
Got it.
Pat McAfee
Every word was really fighting my mouth. I. I think you would see it. It was coming up here and then it was hitting every tooth boom. And it was getting out. It was. It was really cool. Yeah, that was really cool.
Boston Connor
We were talking. We were talking jumbo trouts.
Pat McAfee
Daktronics is a real deal. Oh, yeah. For real.
Ty Schmidt
Those are top of the line.
Pat McAfee
They're in a lot there. They got a lot of them. They got. They. They just did Plum High school basketball. Our gymnasium. They put one up. Unbelievable.
AJ Hawk
Changes everything.
Pat McAfee
It really does. We got replays now. Yeah. In the football stadium.
AJ Hawk
Football Seriously have replays.
Tone
Football one's the same. S. It's like the same as the Falcon Stadium.
Pat McAfee
We don't have.
Boston Connor
No, no, it's world.
Pat McAfee
It's actually the same size as Lucas Oil Stadium 1, though.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
For.
Boston Connor
Shoot.
Pat McAfee
It's close. It is close to the same size as the One Stadium. It's really nice. The Daktronics people are legit and they, like. I don't want to say like they cared as if that's some abnormal thing, but it. They like, they just genuinely, like, they were very pumped to be a part of the Plum Mustang renovation project. And it's like, we appreciate that a lot. We're all Mustangs here. The fund, you know, me, Phil, Eddie, Keith, trying our best to get back to Plum Sports. And I'll tell you, it's been a lot. And they've been producing. Hell, yeah. Like, really. I'm proud of what the world Mustangs here fun did. 2 million bucks given back to Plum High School sports. Yeah, it's been really a long way.
AJ Hawk
They'll go a long way.
Pat McAfee
And our teams are getting good. Like, it's like working, you know, like, you can, like, actually see it. And people are staying committed to sports and stuff like that as opposed to potentially going on. It's like, been a lot of fun to be a part of. And our football team actually looks like a football team.
Ty Schmidt
It's a big win. Week one.
Pat McAfee
First time ranked in 5A.
Ty Schmidt
There you go.
Pat McAfee
Ranked ninth. Hasn't happened.
Boston Connor
Pretty good.
Pat McAfee
I sent a text to quarterback John Sonnenberg means nothing. Okay. Being ranked after week one, let's not forget that this means absolutely nothing. We gotta. Huh, huh, huh. Now let's be excited. Okay. Definitely a big time win, especially over Franklin regional. Okay. They got all money scumbags. Tone's dad lives in the town.
Tone
My parents currently reside in Franklin scumbag.
Pat McAfee
That is the area in which. But rivalry very close. They literally look up the hill. They are on top of the hill. We are at bottom of it. Like that is who we're playing against. And we get a huge win over like a huge win in their place. And I think. I think nonenberg, our quarterback threw for like 200 yards and like four tuds or something. It's like we got a guy.
Ty Schmidt
Not bad Friday night.
Pat McAfee
We got offensive line. We got a team. Our defense was £ I mean, hold the phone. Let's go, boys.
Boston Connor
Got the juice.
Pat McAfee
Five A home opener this round.
Tone
I forgot they have five A's now. I think they have six A's now.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I think six A in total. I think we're five A. We were four A, which was the max. Then they doubled or they opened it up a little bit. Then we moved to 5A. We got. I think we got some big time opponents coming down the pipe. We should be enjoying these wins, but nah, we need to keep stacking days.
Ty Schmidt
That's right.
Pat McAfee
We need to keep stacking days. We need to keep stacking days. For sure. There's nothing more satisfying than finding the.
Tone
Perfect green paint for your living room.
Pat McAfee
Except maybe popping open that can of.
Matt Schneidman
Valspar Ultra and rolling that first smooth.
Pat McAfee
Stroke on the wall. And there's nothing more satisfying than admiring your freshly painted wall. Except maybe peeling off the painter's tape to see those crisp edges. But the most satisfying part of all.
Stanford Steve
Valspar Ultra's price tag, starting at $29.98.
Matt Schneidman
A gallon, affordable, durable, available at Lowe's.
Pat McAfee
Price varies by sheen. This episode is brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Do you ever find yourself playing the budgeting game? We got a chance to catch up with the FedEx cup champion earlier today, AJ do you know that? That.
AJ Hawk
I did know that, yeah. Tommy Fleetwood. What? I can't wait to see it, actually. What? What a sweet final tournament for this guy.
Pat McAfee
Sweet ending of the PGA season for him and Also, his hair looks fantastic like yours. Hey, your hair looks good.
AJ Hawk
It's coming along now. Tommy has that legit volume. He's got great little. He's got some curls to it, like.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, But Tommy's doing things right. We'll get to Tommy. You've shaped yours a little bit here, huh? You have.
AJ Hawk
I got the bottom trimmed up a little bit. Still growing out everything else on the side.
Pat McAfee
It looks good, dude.
Ty Schmidt
Starting to get kind of spiky around the Yamaka.
Boston Connor
You can see it.
AJ Hawk
Very spiky.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Can't get it. Is kind of like the Jesus.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
The crown of thorns.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Stanford Steve
I'm going for.
AJ Hawk
Going for.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Tone
Before it starts to fall.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I got gel. I got gel on the spike.
Boston Connor
Like they cut.
AJ Hawk
Remember they cut T's hair that way when he was the Bron.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. The Jefferson. Yeah. All right, ladies and gentlemen, we about talked to a man with great hair earlier today and a man who's fresh out of a $10 million payday. Tommy Fleetwood, ladies and gentlemen. Joining US now, the FedEx cup champion, an English lad and an absolute stud of a man who I think the entire world is a fan of. And everybody on earth was happy to see him win $10 million this past weekend. Ladies and gentlemen, Tommy. Congratulations, Tommy, on the big time win. How you feeling, Bob?
Tommy Fleetwood
Thanks, guys. I'm good. I'm good. Little jet lagged, but we're all good. It's been a really, really nice few days. And like, it's. Yeah, it's been. It's been a great way to end the year or the season.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Heading into an off season with the biggest win of the entire season has to feel good. And obviously that is vastly different than previous seasons. And I know there's probably been a lot of reflection, and I assume there's been a lot of people asking about what your golf life had been until this big time win. But I'd be remiss if I didn't bring it up on Sunday when you have the three stroke lead and everybody on earth says, hey, it's Fleetwood's time. Literally. Think LeBron, Caitlin Clark. Everybody on earth is like, it's Fleetwood's time. We're all pumped for you. What are you thinking about there? Are you like, holy shit, I could six putt this thing still? Or what is the.
Tommy Fleetwood
Yeah, I've gotta say, like, yeah.
Pat McAfee
On the.
Tommy Fleetwood
When I was on that last hole, because I. I think the 15th tee shot was the one that I really wanted to get away. Like that par three island. You Know, that was. That was one that I really wanted to get over with. But when I was down the 18th and I was just short. I was just short of the green and two chipped it on, there was. There was a guy that announced, you know, there's a voice that announces you onto the 18th green. And he kind of did a really nice announcement of me, but he. It sort of. It was like, it sounded like a victory announcement. Not that he said I was championing, but I was like, whoa, let's slow down. I've still got. I've still got to go here. And I was like, you kind of know, it's done. But I was still in this, like, deep mental cocoon of let's just get. Let's just get this one done and let's. And let's finish. So I would have loved to enjoyed it more down the last, but I just wanted to. I just wanted to make sure I finished it off.
Pat McAfee
No, I don't think enjoying it down the end is the right way to go. Like, I think it's the complete opposite. I'm happy to hear that you're able to do that. Is that something that you've had to work on? Is that something you have to deal with? Because I think everybody on earth knows you're a good golfer. And because you're such a good golfer, you've been in it so many times. High pressure moments, maximum pressure moments with a golf ball that is so small, sweet spot, so tiny, you accidentally. I mean, just one little thing could ruin an entire round. Like, is that locking in, in a mental cocoon something you have to work on on a regular basis? Or how did you get to this point?
Tommy Fleetwood
Yeah, well, it's. I mean, it's. It's a lot easier when you're not in contention or when you, you know, for me, obviously, I've had a lot of close calls, and especially recently, I've been playing some great golf and getting myself into those positions. And then I hadn't finished it off when I. When I felt like it was my tournament. So there's definite. It becomes. It becomes harder to put those doubts, which are, you know, very real. Like, you know, all your feelings, they're completely real, but they are just feelings. So you just have to work on trying to make them into a positive in a way. But those doubts creep in, and that's when you've really got to be strong and just continue to put yourself in. In those situations. And I always. I always felt like eventually it's going to be My time. And it's going to happen. You know, I did. I expect it to be this one. Maybe not, but, you know, I played great. And I think, yeah, I just. I'd worked really hard mentally to just keep myself in the best frame of mind and make sure I kept giving myself the opportunities until it did come.
Pat McAfee
I think we all thought you were eventually going to win. I think that was just kind of like how the world thought. And that's why there was so much intrigue down the stretch there on Sunday, because we were so excited and we just watched you take your hat off and showcase those beautiful pearly whites there. Was there a moment of vindication? Was there £10,000 lifted off of you there? Did you go home at night, look in the mirror and have any different conversations with yourself, with your family? Is there any of those types of moments that maybe we don't get to see that's happening in between your ears?
Tommy Fleetwood
There's definitely relief and a lot of satisfaction. Like, I'm so satisfied with all the work that, like, I put in day in, day out, and for it to be rewarded. I feel like it's. It's like, I feel like it's been rewarded with. I feel like it's been rewarded with a lot of good play. I feel like it's been rewarded by getting up there all the time. But at the same time, you know, you. Like, I've always said I want to win, like multiple times. I want to win plenty. It's not really about winning just one, but you can't do the rest without winning the first one. And I'm. I'm so glad to have got over that hurdle and hopefully it doesn't take me 164 times to win my next one.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you broke the seal, brother. You broke the seal. Now they're just going to start pouring in. I couldn't fathom, honestly, the amount of pressure you're probably putting on yourself every single time and the amount of relief. But also I hope there's a sense of pride in there that you fought through all that. You did something remarkable and your story touched everybody in sports. Now, on that note, it's a lot of money. Brother Connor has a question for you.
Boston Connor
Yeah, Tommy. It's not your flow, by the way. Let me just say, best on the tour. Yeah, that's got to be.
Tommy Fleetwood
Yours is looking good today.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Got to be a nice feeling. I know it took a while, but at least you had that hair the whole entire time with that win. $10 million. I mean, nothing to sneeze at. Probably. Pretty nice seeing that paycheck come through after a victory. Did you have anything in mind specifically that you wanted to buy that you were thinking of kind of almost motivating you? You Maybe a Bentley, maybe. Maybe some sort of Aston Martin. I don't know what they do over there in England. Bangers and mash, perhaps? A nice hearty helping of that. Maybe.
Pat McAfee
What was maybe buy Big Ben.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
The whole clock.
Boston Connor
Get a clock. Yeah, that'd be cool.
Tommy Fleetwood
Was there anything Big Ben? I'll probably need a few more FedEx cooks for that.
Pat McAfee
Well, let's get to it.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
More than one win you just trying to do. Yeah.
Matt Schneidman
Do you know what?
Tommy Fleetwood
No, I. I haven't had anything particular in mind. And actually the thought of winning the FedEx cup or 10 million dollar check had never really entered my mind. But if you're going to do it, if you're going to crescendo and finish this chapter with one, then that's a great one to do it. But we'll think about that another time. For the time being it's been like sitting here sort of very satisfied, very relieved and kind of processing it all. And then, then we'll think of a few things, we'll think of ideas. If you've got anything, let me know.
Pat McAfee
So we just ran off a bunch.
Tone
James Bond car.
Pat McAfee
Bingo.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Any of these things are possible?
Tommy Fleetwood
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, maybe. Batmobile Buccaneer pal.
Ty Schmidt
There you go.
Pat McAfee
Joe Burrow already bought one. Allegedly.
Matt Schneidman
No, Joe.
Tommy Fleetwood
Joe Bar didn't buy it, did he? I think he gave it back.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. It was a lie. Yeah, allegedly. It was all a lie. But he's football player so we don't want to talk negative about it. I, I appreciate the fact though that in golf you guys aren't promised anything. You know, we've learned that through the development of live. And whenever Liv started then they started chit chatting about what a PGA contract is. And it's like you're not guaranteed any money at all. You have to earn it, earn it, earn it. And then your guys schedule just crazy one after another. Oh, we got pro ams happening on Wednesday, Thursday. Hopefully we're making it to the weekend. You have on very regular basis made it the made the cut, made the weekend. Then you're back on the road. What does life look like now that the season's kind of come to an end? Do you, do you work to get like, what do you do now that you can breathe for a little bit? Because your guys season after watching that super swing.
Boston Connor
Full swing. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Full swing is absurd. You guys are rock stars. You guys are living on the road for a very long time.
Tommy Fleetwood
Yeah, well, for me, I play the tour over in Europe as well, so I've probably still got five or six events left until December. December will be my time to sort of shut it down and have some time off then. But I've got the Ryder cup coming up, so that's in. What's that, three weeks time, a month's time. I've got one event before that, so actually, you know, right now it's like I, I'm having a week. I'm having a week at home just chilling, just enjoying it. And then I'm actually get straight back to work and practicing for the next event. So there's. There's always something going on. I think that was the great, like for us, like European players that play both tours, like the change in the, the way that the format works in the schedule where we're finished in August and we don't start till January, that's a nice time for us then to play. We can play like a bunch on, on the tour that I, you know, grew up on, essentially. So it kind of fits really well. But it does. It does mean that we don't get that much time off.
Pat McAfee
Gotta be a good of the walk over there. Fresh off the FedEx champion, you know, good enough saying that mental cocoon. Everybody's going to be gassing your ass up on that.
Tommy Fleetwood
Now the. I'll be cocooning. Yeah, I'll be cocooning.
Pat McAfee
That's why I was saying that mental cocoon over there. On that note, there's somebody that's with you very close in this sport that I think is different than anywhere else. Go ahead, Ty.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah. Tommy, how important is the relationship with your caddy? I feel like this year specifically, we've. We've seen stories of guys changing caddies so often where in years, years passed. Like, the only time you really heard about that was if like Tiger changed his caddy and it was, it was a big deal. But when you are in a position that you've been in and you've gotten close so many times, like, how important is that relationship to have someone really steady on the bag with you who kind of knows exactly what you need to hear at all times.
Tommy Fleetwood
Yeah, of course. And meet me and Finn, my caddy were very close. We've known each other for such a long time. He's now been on my bag for a long time. And I think just a human Level, like he's gonna have had doubts as well. Like the times that we. We've not quite got it right or we've got it wrong. But I think, me personally, I've always wanted to focus on the amount of positives that there's been, and you just look for those little tweaks that eventually get you over the line without sort of drastically changing things. Yeah, there's been quite a lot of caddy changes this year, and I. I think. I think probably once it happens once, and maybe somebody's had success, like, they've changed caddies because things do. You know, people want something fresh every now and again, and it definitely, like, re. Energizes. So I think, think. And then once somebody's seen it be a success once, then, of course, like, somebody else going to try it, and then somebody else will try it.
Pat McAfee
So it does.
Tommy Fleetwood
It goes in cycles like that a little bit. But yeah, I. For. For me and fin out, I think especially this latter part of the season, it was just important that we continue to learn from anything that we didn't quite get right or any mistakes that we might have made. And then when we're in that situation again, you know, you just put all those things. Things right or you put them to the forefront of your mind and you keep pressing forward. And this was the time that we. That it did happen for us. So, you know, I'm a big believer in, like, consistency, like, minor tweaks, and. And, you know, this one's paid off, so that's been nice for us both.
Pat McAfee
I need to make more putts, Tommy. I need to make more putts. Okay.
Tommy Fleetwood
Are we going on a practice session now?
Stanford Steve
What are we going.
Tommy Fleetwood
You gotta take the head cover off it first.
Pat McAfee
Something to think about. It's not about the head cover. Cover. Okay. It's about the stroke. Are you putting at your house? You say this week you're gonna have a week. I assume you and the family gonna have a good time. Enjoy it. Hell, yeah, enjoy. I hope you have a blast. Everybody over there has earned it. Obviously, it's been a lot of dedication from all parties. I understand how that goes. But are you, like, waking up in the morning at the house, hundred putts. Like, they talk about basketball players. We're doing a thousand shots a day before we go to bed for you guys. It feels like the separator between the great in the good golfers is 100 yards. And in more specifically, on the green. Are you. Is it like 100, like, this week? Do you just wake up and just start burying putts. Like, how does it work with what you focus on and when you focus on things?
Tommy Fleetwood
No, I'll have. I'll have a pretty good, like, structured practice routine, I think, you know, for us in golf, there's so many different aspects and so many different elements that you're always trying to cover. Like, you can never. Like, there's no way that you could. I mean, you can't hit every shot that you're gonna get in golf, even in a. You know, in a week's worth of practice, if you did it hours and on every day. So there's always. You have to really sort of focus on certain points and be consistent with them and work your game around them. But, you know, definitely for us, you've got. Put in short game, long game, and then physical, and you've got. And you've got these elements, and then at any given time, you'll.
Pat McAfee
You.
Tommy Fleetwood
You'll structure your day around them. But, no, there's not been. I've actually hit a few putts with my little one. He's still. He's still grinding away, and he still wants to practice. So I've been hitting a few puts with him this week, but nothing. Nothing major.
Pat McAfee
How old is he?
Tommy Fleetwood
He turns 8 next month.
Pat McAfee
God, he's so much better than I am. Yeah. Just absolute dog. Of course, I assume now what I hope you do is take off the next two and a half weeks.
Boston Connor
Sure.
Pat McAfee
You won the FedEx Cup. Championship.
Boston Connor
Championship, yeah.
Pat McAfee
You don't need to practice anything. Maybe you should start playing lefty. And on that note, AP Tony's a question for you.
Tone
Yep. Tommy, we were all very, very super happy for you on Sunday getting that win. And I hope you know that because over the next month, you are the enemy.
Pat McAfee
Usa. Usa. Usa.
Boston Connor
Usa. Sorry, sorry.
Tone
You are the enemy. You are coming back on, obviously, to the USA for the Ryder Cup. What's it like going to be at Bethpage as someone on the European team? Do you like being the away team in that atmosphere? And just overall, what's the environment like for someone that has never been to a Rider Cup?
Pat McAfee
Well, I think.
Tommy Fleetwood
I think it's. It's the. It's the most amazing thing for us about the Ryder cup is because, like, we play an individual sport, and week in, week out, you get. Get supported as an individual, but the crowd like that are. There, are appreciating golf and they support whoever's there. Whereas the Ryder cup for us, is our. That's our time to experience what it's like, to have an, like an unbelievably biased crowd both home and away. I think we're all really excited for the atmosphere. That's going to be, at best, Page. It's going to be. This is what, like, dreams are about. We've dreamt of playing this tournament all our lives in making this team, and the crowd just plays such a huge part in that. So. So home or away, I think that's massive and we are excited. We don't expect anything other than, you know, the home fans to cheer for the home team, of course. So. But we're really, really excited and looking forward to it and. And we'll see. It's going to be great. I'm excited to go there, as you know, our team and play against not only the 12 other guys on the team, but the nation as well, and, and just enjoy it. Like I say, this is, this is what we've been dreaming of, you know, playing in these things since we were kids, taking at the game and like, I'm. I'm just really excited to play in that atmosphere.
Pat McAfee
You scared to death that Keegan's gonna play or. No? What are your thoughts?
Tommy Fleetwood
I know there's a lot of debate, isn't there? I think as I feel a little.
Pat McAfee
Bit out of the loop.
Tommy Fleetwood
I don't know when he makes his picks or when he's. When he's made.
Pat McAfee
Don't you worry about our team? Actually, yeah. I don't even know why you just asked me. Yeah, I know. That's right. Did you not hear me? I don't know why I was in the middle of it. How's your guys team chemistry? You guys have a couple pints or what? Is. Do you guys hang out? Are we trying to. Are we, motivationally speaking to each other in the mornings and at night, are we hanging out in the locker room? Is there a sense. You said you know your individual sports, do you try to do as much team activity? Because for us, like, camaraderie has been a training camp and like, you try to come together and I know go golf is one on one on one, but it does feel like it's you versus the world out there. Do you guys do a lot of team and is there like a group text? How do we kind of. How do we figure it all out?
Tommy Fleetwood
You don't worry about our team.
Pat McAfee
Congrats on winning the FedEx cup championship. I wish you nothing but failure in a few weeks at the Ryder Cup. But immediately after that, we're right back on. We're Back.
Ty Schmidt
That's right.
Pat McAfee
We're back. We appreciate the hell out of time.
Tommy Fleetwood
I can accept that.
Pat McAfee
Congrats, dude. It was fun.
Tommy Fleetwood
Thank you very much. That's awesome. Thanks for having me, guys. It's great to see you.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. I want you to know, though, like, we all sent or all felt, like, an immediate sense of, like, happiness and joy for you. Everybody in the sports world, that's very abnormal. Yeah, that's very abnormal in the sports world. People want to hate people, especially if they're successful. People want to tear people down. As soon as you won, everybody in sports from all different walks of life are, like, good on you, you know, like, legit. So fair play, lad. I think you should feel very good, and we're pumped that you joined us.
Tommy Fleetwood
It's been awesome. Thank you so much to everyone.
Pat McAfee
Cheers. Have a couple pints on us. How many, by the way?
Boston Connor
Yeah, how many pints fit in the FedEx Cup?
Tommy Fleetwood
I haven't tried it yet. I didn't get to. I didn't get to put a pint in it. But there'll be a few. Probably, like, I don't know, three or four.
Pat McAfee
All right. We appreciate you. Ladies and gentlemen, FedEx cup champion and a man who's about to just dominate the European tour, I guess again, Tommy Fleetwood. Good moxie and Tommy. Yeah, we're all happy for him, AJ that was something I. I tried to tell him, like, five different times because it was. I wanted him to understand, like, that is abnormal, normal, you know? Like, I. I don't really know how often maybe around the Olympics, somebody will come around and ever. Like Bolt. I think everybody wanted Usain Bolt to win. Even American people want him to win whenever he was first doing his thing. Maybe Phelps whenever he was rolling. I don't know how many. Just like sport, I guess.
Ty Schmidt
I wonder if that's, like, a United States thing, too. Like, I'm sure other countries weren't jacked up. Up to see Michael Phelps win gold medals. I feel like we got behind a couple people that weren't from the United States.
Pat McAfee
Well, then, how about. So we'll say Bolt, then?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I. I think that's. That's probably a. A safe one. But you're right.
Pat McAfee
The world was like, hey, this is. We have a human that is faster than humans have ever been. I think we're all pulling for team sport. Serena, maybe.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Serena a little different, but I feel like when Stafford won a Super bowl, everyone was happy for Stafford.
Pat McAfee
There was a lot of people in.
Boston Connor
Detroit that weren't okay I thought the Detroit people were still cheering him on.
Pat McAfee
I mean, a majority were, but, dude, 30 top fives. We've seen that guy on Sunday a lot.
Tone
Yes.
Pat McAfee
We've seen his name on the leaderboard a lot. Like, he is very known. And then it's like, not going to get it done. That was just always. And we're always so bummed for him. Like, ah, man. Yep, Got a double on 14. It's over for Tommy. See you later, Tommy. You're on your way out for him to finish. And I asked him about that mindset on. On 18, you know, because in the way I worded, it was certainly something, but it's real. Like, you can six putt. I've seen. I've watched on Sundays where some guy that I've never seen before is about to win. And, like, if he misses this, it goes to a playoff, and it's a two and a half footer or something, and it's like, could you imagine just rimming that out and then it's another two feet?
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And it's like, well, if you miss this, there's not even a playoff. You actually come and see second place, somebody else wins. It's like, you can definitely miss. There's a lot of spots for that ball to roll to, especially with how small it is. It's like, that's why it's so hard to win. I was. That's why. Scotty Scheffler, outrageous. Tiger woods, outrageous. Everybody that was kind of on those runs, Jack, way back in the day. Outrageous. Whenever people are on those runs in golf, it's so fickle because that can just vanish. And it did to a lot of stars. And it's like, Tommy Fleetwood. I think he should be considered one of the greats. 30 Top Fives is fucking outrageous. I mean, he's up in there.
Tone
I was just looking back, he's been at least in the top 15 in the world since 2022. That's as far as I could go back. So, like, he's been a top 15 golfer for the last four years.
Pat McAfee
Three.
Tone
Four years or whatever. At least. I couldn't go back.
Pat McAfee
And he's never been able to give a happy speech? No.
Boston Connor
No.
Pat McAfee
Never been able to be like, yeah, I won. You know, that's crazy for him, mentally, AJ and it has to feel so good now for that to happen, you know.
AJ Hawk
Well, it's such a solo sport, so each time that you get there and you get in contention, then it fall. You know, something happens on Sunday. Either maybe you don't even. You don't even fall apart. Maybe someone in front of you jumps out there and finishes. Eagle, eagle, birdie, or something. So, yeah, the fact, like, each tournament where you go, oh, here we go. Awesome, another top five. And I can't find a way to finish this and win it, but I think you're right. Like, he. He may have taken the lid off. He may have figured it out. Now, I cannot imagine the conversation confidence this guy has to have.
Pat McAfee
I mean, at least you can lean on it in the biggest tournament with the biggest prize. 10 million bucks, I was able to finish. It's like, at least you have that in the back of your head. But every time is, you know, situations are situational. That's right. I mean, that is reality. It's like how he wakes up on a future Sunday will be the same as how he felt this past Sunday when he won the biggest prize in the Sport. I'm not 100%. I mean, nuts. Congrats to him. And then he goes right into the European Tour. He has seven wins out of European Tour Tour thus far. Goes right into that. I actually get an opportunity now to play eight more tournaments, because the way it is, like, this guy loves ball.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
This guy.
Boston Connor
I went back.
Tone
He's been in the top 25 since 2017, basically, and has never one of the people.
Pat McAfee
Great golfer. This guy is a great golfer. And we, like, even his friends and family probably weren't even able to really celebrate him, you know? And it's then he wins one, and it's like, all his friends and family that have been by him, they're like, we told you he was a guy, like, always told you he had it in him. And then he does it. It's like, good for you, dude.
Ty Schmidt
That's what we've. We've seen this, like, a couple times now. But when you see the guys on tour who are. Who stay and wait, like, when he's on 18 there, because they know he's about to win and they want to congratulate him. Like, it's almost like those guys wanted him to win more than, like, they wanted to win the tournament. When they saw that, like, he was in position, it's like, you know what? Fuck this. Like, it's Tommy's time. We got to be there for him. And that especially, I feel like, never happens.
Pat McAfee
Good for you, Tommy.
Boston Connor
Hell, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Good for you. Happy for him. He was cool. Great chat earlier this morning. He saves a little jet lag there. Big Ben's going to cost more than 10 million boys.
Boston Connor
That's a bummer.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, he's made a lot more than 10 million.
Pat McAfee
Once again, great golfer. Great golfer. Speaking of great golfers, A.J. you've won in a golf tournament before, right? Fight.
AJ Hawk
No, I don't believe I've ever won in a golf tournament.
Pat McAfee
No. I introduce you as a Rider cup winner. Every single winner.
AJ Hawk
I guess I. I've won a. My match with Rob Brigle. We won our match in a tournament.
Pat McAfee
Yes. You've won in a tournament, right? Yep.
AJ Hawk
Correct.
Tone
And saved a life.
Pat McAfee
Let's go. And was part of or saw somebody pass away on Kelly Slater.
AJ Hawk
I saw Kelly Slater save a life.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Shout out.
Pat McAfee
What a crazy shout. Skelly. SL surfer, right?
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And Malfoy and Lifesaver, actually on a golf course at Ryder cup. Which leads to the Ryder cup team we put up on there. Pretty big. Like, hey, this was recorded before. 10 minutes before. Yeah, actually 10 minutes before the Ryder cup teams were announced. That's on us. But also, scheduling wise, the only time we could talk to Tommy, we got good team age. Keegan Bradley did not select himself as a captain's pick to compete alongside the boys on the course. He would just be leading a group of studs into action in New York. We told Tommy that he needs to suck in this for the good of the United States of America. Feels like he's pretty locked in on them winning. What are your thoughts on the team? And just a Ryder cup buzz here starting to really build.
AJ Hawk
Man, I can't wait. Like, honestly, like, watching the Ryder cup is great. It happens during football season. So it's kind of weird, but I remember being in like Saturday meetings and our linebacker coach putting it on the screen on mute while we were having like our post practice meeting to see what's going on with the Ryder Cup. But I know Keegan didn't name him, so I wish Keegan would have played. I think he should have just done it. Why not? We would love to see Keegan play. But who here? Like, who was the first and second out? Like, who would be the alternates? Do we know who's pissed off?
Pat McAfee
Sam Burns, I think was the last one in if I had to. Yes, go ahead, Tone.
Tone
Yeah, him and then Colin Morikawa was a lot of the. The talk. Even though Colin Morocco has been one of the best US Golfers for the last five years or whatever. But this hasn't been his best, best season. But he's performed so well in Ryder Cup. Keegan said that they, they brought him on, but so Morikawa and then Sandbirds were. Yeah, two of the last ones that were.
Pat McAfee
I'm a Keegan addict, sure. Yeah, you are, sure. Noted. Who.
AJ Hawk
Who was on the edge that just got left off. Do we know? Like, who are we?
Pat McAfee
Think Keegan. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Other than Keegan.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
I mean, he left himself off.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Keegan Bradley. I think he's the.
Tone
Who's this year's Bama and Ole Miss and South Carolina. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I don't.
Tone
I haven't. I haven't seen their fan bases putting out a lot of stuff yet, too.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, we have to. We'll go on X to see who's pissed. Yeah. But we want to let them know we're pissed, too. There's only a certain amount of players that are allowed to be on the Ryder cup team, though.
Ty Schmidt
That's right.
Pat McAfee
Maybe next time you can play a little bit better at the beginning of the season. Get those points up, get in, because we need you on Team America, especially if we lose. And Keegan knows that if he loses here, he's going to be judged because of it. Keegan's a New Englander. Oh. Takes a lot of pride in that.
Boston Connor
Amen.
Pat McAfee
Being a professional golfer from New England, not a lot of warm weather up there. A lot of golfers you hear about might be from the north, but they move immediately to the south. Why? So we can golf. I don't know for the other eight months of the year when we can't golf in the North. So very rarely do you hear about northern golfers succeeding and having a big time, big time golf career. Keegan Bradley's been that guy from New England. Now he's got to go to New York and Leah. Team.
Boston Connor
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
Let's go win.
Boston Connor
Come on, Keegan.
Pat McAfee
In the middle of football season. Would be great if it was right.
Boston Connor
Before football season right now.
Tone
Minus 130. Okay, who's the other captain of USA or Europe?
Pat McAfee
We're not talking about.
Boston Connor
They don't have a captain.
AJ Hawk
You're right. It's about us.
Pat McAfee
Tommy told us not to talk about his team. And right after I asked him to talk about our team, I told him not to talk about our team. Team. That's right. Absolutely. I told him right to his face, too.
AJ Hawk
Yeah, he handled it well.
Pat McAfee
Nameless faces shout out Donnie Baker. I said right to his wife. State law, rest in peace. I cannot believe that the world missed out on Donnie Baker.
Ty Schmidt
I was gonna say he was about as big as there was in terms of radio personality.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
You set your watch to see in one of his videos, you know, on Facebook back in the day, what he would have done.
Pat McAfee
TikTok.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, God.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. Donnie Baker on TikTok. State law would have been, rest in peace, Donnie. Rest in peace. Guy was always really cool to me. He was like five different people.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He was five different characters. It was unbelievable. Tony from Sopranos, him just breathing heavy. He would call into Bob and Tom radio. We're talking about a character from Bob and Tom radio show. This guy was five different characters. He would call into Bob and Tom. His Tony Soprano was him just heavy breathing into it, which goes against like everything about radio. Like, hey, that is not what anybody wants to hear. But then he would drop in this New Jersey. Jersey accent, Italian accent in the middle. He was a talent, that guy. Talent. Loved baseball coach baseball down in Florida, I think. I love baseball. I got to know him. He passed away. It's like, man, perspective. Life comes, life goes.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
So try to enjoy it all, please. You know, life is very fickle. You have to enjoy it all. You have no idea what's coming tomorrow. No clue. All we know is we all football very soon.
Ty Schmidt
So soon.
Pat McAfee
And we made it. Yeah. We did it.
Boston Connor
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
Go football.
Boston Connor
Come on.
Pat McAfee
Now, as we wrap up today, I think would only be proper for us to do the news. To do that, please welcome the man who's going to inform the world of things that we need to know about that are happening around this sports empire in. On this particular Nutter Wednesday. Yeah, it's hard to get to.
Boston Connor
Yeah, it is.
Ty Schmidt
But when you get there, it's hard to worth it.
Boston Connor
Worth it every time.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's hard with the English language. It's hard to get to Not a Nutter Wednesday, you know, in there. But nonetheless, here's the news that you need to know on Not a Nutter Wednesday from our friend Boston Connor.
Boston Connor
Hey, good to have you back, man. This has been much, much more fun. I'm sure you've heard a lot of things about the shows the last two weeks.
Pat McAfee
Good things.
Boston Connor
They fucking sucked for us.
Pat McAfee
It's very nice to see you across.
Boston Connor
Across the. Across the stage. Last QB battle of camp. Spencer Rattler and Tyler Schuck. Spencer Rattler wins. He will be the starting QB for Kell Moore's New Orleans Saints.
Pat McAfee
Tyler Schuck was the starter, remember? Because why didn't they draft Shador if they were going to draft the starter? They didn't draft Tyler Shuck until later in there. Spencer Rattler played a little bit last year. Laud moxie, remember? Him from literally high school elite 11 camps. Now he's getting opportunity to be starter in Kellen Moore's offense in this brand new New Orleans Saints team. I think if you listen to the defensive players of the New Orleans Saints talk about Kellen Moore and what he's doing down there, they have a lot of faith. Even though nobody has had any faith in the New Orleans Saints this offseason. What's their over under? The.
Tone
I believe it's four and a half.
Pat McAfee
Okay. So not a lot of expectations by anybody. Spencer Rattler gets a job that might be a right place to be though. That might be a good time to.
AJ Hawk
Get to great opportunity.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
What an opportunity with no expectations. Really placed in on your team. The over under is four. I mean, let's go get eight victories and be a hero, Spencer Rat and.
Pat McAfee
Earn a hell of a contract, you know, if you're able to. And by hell of a contract, I'm not talking 65 million a year maybe. I mean, you never know. If you go from four and a half over, under to winning a Super bowl.
Boston Connor
Yeah, you.
Pat McAfee
You probably make a lot of money. But we're talking about like good second contract starter, maybe fill gap type of person.
Ty Schmidt
20 million.
Pat McAfee
Baker Mayfield, what he. Jared Goff, then you become star. Like, this is huge. Anytime you get a chance to play as a quarterback, it is huge. Which is why that whole conversation about Shador.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
And them setting up for failure and why is he starting without the ones out there? It's like, well, he's not starting quarterback and he's getting an opportunity to play. This is a huge ordeal, like for everybody out there. Well, he's not getting a fair shake because they're not using this. It's like that they never. That's never happened. Happened. That. That is not. That is not reality. He's talking about humans and also injuries and everything. Like actual teams that have to worry about what they're doing. And it's like, I appreciate the way Shador has handled it. Everybody around Shador. Yeah. Shador has not. Shador has been very. He's tried to stay above it. Complimenting teammates, talking about Joe Flacco. His relationship with him feels like the boys like him. It's like there's been so much around him which is going to happen forever. He's coach prime, son. I mean, that's just the way it is, is they obviously have drummed it up as well with their reality TV show business, which is kind of what their social media is. It's just reality TV Show. They've been documenting everything that they've been doing for a long time. So there's a lot of energy and a lot of focus on Shador, no matter what he does and the conversation around him. Like, why is he playing? He shouldn't be playing. They're trying to screw. He has stayed above it all the entire time. I respect and appreciate that. AJ Legit.
AJ Hawk
He handles it well.
Pat McAfee
I think so, too.
AJ Hawk
I heard Deion explain in his presser about. About Shiloh getting released and Dion just talking about. I prepared my kids for every possible scenario. Like, it was cool to hear how Dion was talking like this kids, and not like the all doom and gloom. Dion's very positive guy. But, yeah, I feel like these guys can bounce back. And Shador has handled it very well. I feel like that eventually he'll be on the field at some point this year. Right?
Pat McAfee
We assume. Very committed father. Coach Prime. Nobody talks about. Yeah, nobody ever said. Nobody who talks about how committed as a father he is. And then as a coach, accountability and like, he. Even though, hey, yeah, we're gonna. We're gonna let motherfuckers know we're good. Like, we are not scared to do that. But the only reason why we can do that is because of everything else. He's changing a lot of lives, man. And Shador, just watching him operate in this whole thing, he could have numerous times tried to take the clout way. Like, there's. There's a lot of everybody saying he's doing this shit for show and for cloud. It's like, he could. He's. He could have numerous times given answers that would have drawn headlines and stirred up and threw gas onto a fire that was already happening and has not done that. So it's. That doesn't really get talked about with Shador, I don't think. And I think that's a plus side. I don't think he should be the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns. No, I don't think everybody should be burying Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco took this team to the playoffs two years ago. Like, knows the offense. Yeah, but he's old. It's like there's a lot of old court. You know, there's a lot of old quarterbacks in the NFL. You know. You know why they're old and still in the NFL? Because they know what the. They're doing. Like that. That is so. I don't like the slander that has been thrown at Joey Flacco. Like, I. I don't love that, but I I assume Flacco doesn't give a. About any of it. And I like the way Shador is handling. It's like they, they have a lot going on over there in that particular room. They've not been a very successful franchise. There's a lot of shit outside of it. But if they're able to navigate this and with the way the leadership is seemingly operating, it's like good, good for the Cleveland Browns for how loud it's been outside of it.
Boston Connor
Yeah. And part of the, you know, do the news also is Dylan Gabriel, who has handled this very well because amazing, no one's talking about him. He was announced as the official backup and Shador will be the third string, which people had thoughts about. But typically if somebody gets drafted in the third round and another guy gets drafted in the fifth round at the same position, that third rounder is typically above him on the death truck.
Pat McAfee
Well, I'm probably going to get a little, little bit more opportunity as well.
Ty Schmidt
And he looked good with the opportunities he was given.
Pat McAfee
And also that goes for. If you're the second overall pick or like a fourth round pick or a third round pick all the way down. Yeah. It's like there's. Because that's how much money they invest in you. That is what they've invested in you. So if you're not getting paid a lot of money, I think in any job you should understand that they do not have a lot of investment in you. Okay. So that probably makes it easier for them to move on from you. If they're paying you a lot of money, they have investment in you. So they are looking for you to succeed because that makes them feel good. Right. Because they invested a lot of money, but also they're looking for you to succeed because they are the ones that believed in you. So like there's a lot of that type of stuff that happens with the draft. Now is that fair? I think the teams would say yeah. A third rounder is worth a lot more than a fifth rounder. Have you seen any of the trades that happen? Do you know what a 5th rounder is worth? Do you know what a 3rd rounder is worth? Do you know what a 1st rounder is worth? So like, this is just a reality of what the business is. And none of us expected Shador to fall to fifth round. None of us. But the NFL did. All 32 teams numerous times let him fall. Did it? Are we saying that's accurate? No, but the reality is he's worth a fifth rounder to the Cleveland Browns. Dylan Gabriel is worth a third rounder to the Cleveland Browns. And the fact that Dylan Gabriel has. You're right. Stayed above it all as well when he could have easily turned the other way. Shador, same thing. Kenny Pickett, Same thing. Joe Flacco, Same thing. All of them, I think, have handled this very, very, very well. Very, very well. But that whole. Yeah, I mean, I got respect for a lot of people. I respect for a lot of people.
Tone
They wanted Kevin Stevens to get fired.
Pat McAfee
There was just a lot of things. I was just reading them and I'm like, so they want the number one offensive line out there in the third preseason game with a fifth round rook.
AJ Hawk
When would that ever happen? When would that ever happen?
Pat McAfee
Never. Like that would. That would have never happened. Like, you think Shador is happy about it? No, he would like to have the best offensive line. But Shador fucking knows they're not going to roll out the number one for the third. How much money they got invested in that? Once again, back to investment. This is a business. And. And having Shador on the Browns is good for their business. A lot of attention on them. And if Shador turns into the player that we all think and hope he can become, that'd be great business for the Cleveland Browns and the investment would be gigantic. But it's like right now, the way they're viewing is like our starting quarterback is Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco took us to the playoffs two years ago. Joe Flacco and us did something that not a lot of Cleveland Browns teams have done in the last last hundred years. So I think so much conjecture. But I think the way Shador's handled it is cool. It's not a story that's being talked about. I like the way he's operated.
Boston Connor
And just like we. We forget what we were saying about that Browns team. And when they did go to the playoffs, they were going to Houston. And everybody thought that the Browns were going to beat the out of CJ Stroud his rookie year in Houston in the playoffs. Like everybody was so high on and.
Pat McAfee
Joe was having retired mid season off the catch.
Boston Connor
He beat a dead guy in the comeback player of the year.
Tone
It's true.
Pat McAfee
He beat him tomorrow. Hamlin.
Boston Connor
Tomorrow.
Pat McAfee
Hamlin. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Think about he'd be defeated. All odds to bar. Hamlin was like minus 300 to win comeback player of the year at the beginning of the season.
Pat McAfee
What did they say though? It was for on field performance. Right.
Tone
Since been changed.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Connor
And then they changed the flock of rule. Hey, you can't come off the couch and win comeback player of the year anymore.
Pat McAfee
If a guy passes away on the field in front of all of us, he's probably going to.
Boston Connor
Yeah, okay. Can't have this happen again.
Pat McAfee
I like Joe Flacco. I mean, I liked him when he was here. It didn't work at all. He's. He was not good here with the Colts.
Ty Schmidt
You got a raw deal.
Pat McAfee
Didn't seem like they were set up for success. No. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Still doesn't.
Tone
They are now.
Pat McAfee
You don't know. No, I don't.
Boston Connor
I do not.
Tone
Dimes has been.
Boston Connor
I'm thinking about that with every team.
Pat McAfee
I don't like the way the new Colts generation fans through the ones that attacked me for pointing out everything that was accurate about the team last year, now they all attacked me last year. They are now attacking everything about the Colts and going after them. And it's like everybody has said the same thing basically. And it's like to be a quarterback is a lot of things. Like, it's a lot of things. It's a very. There's only 32 of these jobs. So it's like, is Danny Dimes the guy that's going to lead us both on the field, off the field, set an exam, do all the shit that comes with being a starter? I assume that is what they are saying because if you listen to the coaches and the way they talk about it, that's basically what it is. It's like this guy is suited to be the face of a franchise right now. And it's like, is he exactly what? No. I mean, this wasn't the guy we drafted number four overall. But they also have said they're not giving up on Anthony still. Like, Anthony gets hurt and then he's like out of the building. So I don't even think he's really gotten a chance to like see how you're potentially supposed to kind of do it for over a three year period now. So it's like I, I still think Anthony Richardson, I was a believer coming in. I was like, everything we've heard about the off season, here we go. This is going to be it. And then you just start, you know, kind of hearing stuff and it's like, oh, they're going to go with Danny dimensions because of everything that we kind of potentially were thinking in years past. He's very young, hasn't played a lot of football. I don't think he completely understands how important it is to be the quarterback of an NFL team strictly because throughout his entire life he's been able to show up and just dominate everybody. And that's because he is so talented. So it's outrageous how much talent Anthony Richardson has. So much fun to watch him do his thing. But it's like in the NFL everybody has to talent. And you're talking about generations of talents like two generations ahead of you are still playing in the NFL. Those guys had talent, they're still playing. It's like everybody has a lot of talent. He's certainly a lot more God given ability and everything like that than anybody I've ever seen. I mean Cam Newton is the only real comparison or conversation. Josh Allen I guess as well is a conversation there. But there's only been a few of those guys. Everything else though takes like bot like you just you live it. That's what has to happen if you want to really make it. And it's like maybe he's not there yet. He's going to have to play this year, we assume Shane Steichen's offense. Danny Dimes going to be running. He might get hurt. Danny Dimes runs very well. He's a bull. Nobody really talks about that. He runs very well. Everybody remembers him tripping. Well, do you know in tripping he was on a 65 yard run that he was pulling away from people. Danny Dimes, Dimes over yardage, run rushing yards, bet safe bet. Basically every game because everybody sees Danny Dimes they go, look at that nerd. He can't run. And then yes he can. But with that it's going to come something and Anthony's going to get to play again. And hopefully, you know, hopefully it's the time. Riley Leonard also, yeah, he looked good.
Ty Schmidt
Don't look at preseason he put him.
Tone
40 against the Bengals.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. And also did you see a touch pass over the middle, over the linebacker in front of the safety. It's like I didn't know.
Ty Schmidt
Did you learn that?
Pat McAfee
I didn't know Riley Leonard could do that. I thought Riley Leonard was like, couple years here we're gonna have to figure out how to make these. And it's like I start seeing some throws and I'm like, that's against fourth stringers. But he's playing with four stringers too. And he just seated that.
Boston Connor
The throw itself.
Pat McAfee
I didn't know Riley Leonard, I didn't know that in there. He's so athletic.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
You talk about being able to run.
Boston Connor
Danny dives. I mean you can see it all.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Legit. And he's tall. Quarterback room in the country, definitely. Wow, that is A definite.
Boston Connor
That's not true anymore, actually.
Pat McAfee
Why is that? Because you guys picked up Dan H.
Boston Connor
Yeah, we didn't pick up Danouch.
Pat McAfee
Who'd you pick up?
Boston Connor
Danoch couldn't hold Tommy Cutlets's jock.
Pat McAfee
You picked up Davido.
Boston Connor
Yeah, that's right.
Pat McAfee
I thought you got Danouch. You got Davido.
Boston Connor
I get. We got DeVito in fun. Funny enough when it happens. I felt something in my soul. I. I could. Like my hair almost slicked back a little more. My. My armpits almost smelt a little worse. My. My entire body just. It felt like I wanted pizza a little more. I. I honestly think I might have become Italian. Since the patriots got Tommy DeVito, I can kind of.
Pat McAfee
You. I could tell you didn't.
Boston Connor
You could see it.
Pat McAfee
No, you don't look natural doing that at all.
Boston Connor
Isn't that what the guy does?
Pat McAfee
You're not Tony Soprano.
Boston Connor
Pretty good, right?
Pat McAfee
No. He would also then have full action arrows.
Boston Connor
Yeah, exactly like.
Pat McAfee
So. You're getting close. Pretty good. Close your eyes. It might be a little. That's not it, though. You don't need to do that. So Tommy Davido is now a part of da Patriots.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Variable saw him and he said, I need. I need Cutlets. I need Stallato in my building. You know how they're gonna get all the rats out of the building? Stiletto's gonna walk around with a shotgun.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. He does say there's rats in here. And then he brings in Tom.
Boston Connor
Yeah. That's only one way to stiff him out. Bring in the Cutlets family and bring those noses into the facility. And let's have them going office to office.
Pat McAfee
You said something there. What I was alluding to is they were going to take a rido. Buddy was gonna be sitting shot. Tommy DeVito is gonna be sitting back right side. Yeah. You know why?
Tone
They just not stop having a mafia up in Boston.
Pat McAfee
That's unbelievable to think about. There's rats everywhere in this building. Bring me the most Italian. Italian.
Boston Connor
Get Stiletto on the line now.
Pat McAfee
Where are they? We got loose lips around. Need you to find them.
Boston Connor
St also a mask guy, by the way. Stado grew up in Massachusetts.
Tone
That's also a prestige. Season matters because he went like 16 of 20 against the Patriots in their final preseason game. Also with the O line, where I think most of the O line got cut, but that's for a different day. So, you know, those preseason games do count. Everybody's watching.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Especially the. On the other side of the field. Darren Waller got Signed. He was on the Ravens. John Gruden was with the Raiders. Sees him do his pre workout, warm up. What is that, man? Yeah, that's Darren Walter Baller. He's a Raider. Can you catch? Can you do? Yeah. Okay. Sweet. Cool. You got a spot for you. Then he becomes all Pro. And that entire thing, it's like you never know who's watching. That's why every opportunity is such a big deal. Like, don't push your door out. It's like, that's a big deal. A lot of teams that maybe didn't know if he could operate in the NFL with NFL defenses that might be a little bit more sophisticated, maybe a little bit more speed, maybe an offense that you have to kind of go through a couple more reads. People are watching that from other teams, being like, okay, he answers questions that we have. Maybe if he's not with the Browns, he's with us. It's like, these opportunities matter, man. Like, these things are good. These are not bad. Like, especially if you're trying to make a fucking roster, if you're top 10 guy on team, it's like different conversation about this. But if you're bottom half a roster, it's like any opportunity is a great opportunity. And just acting like it's not was wild to me. I thought I was very disrespectful of the NFL. Like, this league's been around a long time, long time. And it'll be going on for a long time as well. On that note, let's talk about the league making a decision. Rasheed Rice will be suspended six games this upcoming season, including the first six games, because this conversation about Rasheed Rice's penalty or suspension from the NFL wasn't going to come, allegedly until September 30, which was, conveniently enough, one day after Monday Night Football. And they've played five games, four of them being prime time games. First one, obviously, in Brazil, the second day of the season, taking on the Chargers on Friday. So everybody's like, real convenient. The NFL is scheduling this Rasheed Rice punishment the day after the fourth national television game for the Kansas City Chiefs. Turns out that we did a little research. We reached out to our source within the league in September 30 would have been the last day that a rule would have come. And that would involve like a judge hearing both sides, both the NFL and the nflpa, because there's a lot of things in moving pieces whenever it comes to suspensions and precedent and things of that nature. So I guess that a suspension was Trying to be worked on here since it has happened and the nflpa maybe they have their gripes or fight back about thing and. And they're kind of presenting their case. The NFL is presenting their case. Then they were able to come to an agreement on a six game suspension being the proper amount. Rasheed Rice has agreed to it. So September 30th was a date of importance in this particular case, but it was never in the NFL's eyes from what we were told the date that the decision was going to be made. They've been trying to get this done basically since it has happened. So they finally just were able to get it done, which was news to me. I did not know any of that information. I was very happy to learn that because it was hard not to be like real convenient that they put it on September 30th when this happened a long time. Like, it's hard not to buy into that. And then we call somebody at the NFL and they're like, no, the deal done. We wish this was done two weeks ago. There's a lot that goes. There's a lot of fighting that is happening on what's allowed, what's not allowed, what's proper, what's improper. And it's just like it was cool to kind of learn about that because I certainly bought in that they were doing this on Tuesday. Yeah, definitely. It was hard not to almost. It was hard not to believe it. And instead they get it done before the season starts, which what they've been trying to do. And it's a six game suspension and Rasheed Rice and his people have just been like, yep, you got it. We'll see you on week seven.
Boston Connor
Yeah, it was hard too because Jordan Addison got suspended three games either the same day or the day before when this new news dropped. So that's why everyone was like, okay, if they're suspending guys now and then the one player on the Chiefs who's up for a suspension, he's the one that gets special treatment and they get four primetime games with their full team before he gets suspended. Like that didn't make any sense. The Addison suspension kind of added fodder. It was very easy.
Pat McAfee
Conspiracy. Yeah, that's.
Boston Connor
It's especially.
Pat McAfee
The kingdom's out right now.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
It's just like it was easy for fodder. So I think them getting this announced before the season was huge for the NFL. But also we need to remember this going forward, AJ that even though it looks like a duck and waddles like a duck, that Might be a goose. You know, you never know. You can't just assume things.
Boston Connor
So you Hear the quack, A.J.
AJ Hawk
You can't. Do we know for she is allowed in the facility and able to practice with the team during this time? No, nothing. Yeah, that's a big deal.
Boston Connor
Like, if.
AJ Hawk
If he was able to take part in practice in meetings, that would be. I think that would help him a lot.
Pat McAfee
Lot. Yeah. Yeah, I think so. I was suspended a week. Wasn't allowed in the building.
Boston Connor
How do they fall?
Pat McAfee
So what am I supposed to do? I'm just sit in my house. Like, I need that.
Boston Connor
How do they follow that?
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's what you're doing. Okay. I'll just sit in my house. Shut the blinds. I don't want to see anybody. I'm embarrassed. I'm disgusted with myself. And who can I talk to? Myself? I can't really go talk to anybody. Everybody I know in the city's in a building. It's right there. I'm all out in there. I'll go home, I guess. Bad move. Where am I working out? LA50. Am I allowed to work some runs all out in the building. That's like the. Yeah. And mine was one week, six weeks. A long time. You know, we watched Tom kind of do workouts in his backyard throughout this entire thing. I. I wonder what we'll see Rashid doing. I. I assume the workout videos will be outrageous. That'll be coming out. I. I do assume that's.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
It is crazy to think, though, like, it's easy to kind of just dismiss this and be like, I'll sit like, that's a third of the season.
Pat McAfee
Long time.
Ty Schmidt
And like they. They were relying on. I mean, we saw how the Chiefs offense was last year with him at the very start when it's like, okay, this is the guy they've been missing. They need him. This is why Kelsey's kind of taking a back seat, because he is crazy.
Pat McAfee
Situation could have killed somebody without a doubt. Yeah. Like, we don't want to.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Not. Not downplaying what. What happened, obviously, but, like, I mean, for. For the Chiefs, I. I would assume they probably expected this was coming, but still, like having a guy who you expect to be a Pro bowl type receiver and. And help Mahomes have another one of those seasons for him to be gone for a third of the season, like, what a hit.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Tone
Now it's just, you know, it puts a spotlight on. On Mr. Kelsey and his. His improved off season, him working out down in Florida and then you Know Xavier Worthy, who was in his second year. I mean, it was off awesome as a rookie, so it just puts a little bit more on those guys until Rashid Rice.
Pat McAfee
Do you think it'll be Kelsey Swift? Both of them?
Tone
I think he's taking the name.
Pat McAfee
Is he?
AJ Hawk
I wonder if both of them hyphen. You're gonna hyphen it?
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, they should.
Pat McAfee
I would not judge.
Ty Schmidt
Why not?
Pat McAfee
Two very great names in Americana. Yeah. That Jersey cell would do so well. Yeah, but. Okay, that's your thinking. Business wise, I'm thinking, like, in my eyes, that would be a. That'd be a dope. That'd be a. Imagine our kids. Oh, my God, the pressure to be great.
Tone
Oh, I'd be more of a fan to both last names and combine them in something different.
Pat McAfee
Kel Swift or Swelsea.
Ty Schmidt
Probably the worst.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, Swelsea, whatever. I'm so happy for them.
Ty Schmidt
They should take each other's last names.
Pat McAfee
Swap.
Stanford Steve
Swap.
Pat McAfee
I'm so fucking happy for them. Think about how loud it was when they were just trying to date each other. You know, Fuck these people. I'm sick of seeing them. It's like, well, sorry, one of them is the biggest star in the world. Okay. Sells out stadiums in every fucking continent by herself. And the other one's the greatest tight end of all time. So. Yeah, sorry. In the biggest sport at the biggest time of the sport. Sorry. You're seeing. Yeah, sorry you're sorry. People are seen, I guess, is kind of the thing. And then this is a plant. Oh, she's trying to sell an album, huh? Okay. I can't believe Travis Kelsey is letting Taylor Swift use his NFL status to sell some. Like, the amount of different eras. Shout out Taylor.
Tone
Sure.
Pat McAfee
The amount of different eras of hate that they got at the beginning. Had to make it difficult to become a couple. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
I mean, it really makes no sense that. That this is the point we're at because, like, especially in of rel, I can't imagine being. Having every. Every part of your personal life being under a microscope. Literally everything you like. They couldn't ever go anywhere publicly and not have it be the biggest deal ever. You know, it's like the Beatles are coming into town. Like, it just. It's.
Pat McAfee
And also, Trav, you need to look right, act right.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Because her fans, obviously, for good reason, because she is an absolute dog, very loyal, and they've also. Also been with her and have learned her entire life story through her songs. You know, she's like a diary journalist artist. That is. She's I've learned about all her exes through listening with my wife. And it's like, yo, Trav, representing for football. I was very pumped. I'm like, here we go. Because she's been with artists in the past, you know, actors in the past, musicians. It's like, I've heard about them. We don't like them. You're representing for football here. And he's been fucking. He's the perfect.
Boston Connor
Perfect.
Pat McAfee
Right.
AJ Hawk
Representative. Absolutely.
Pat McAfee
I think so. I legitimately think so. Like, I. I assume he would say maybe misstepped a couple things. I. I misjudged a couple things. Maybe because he's in the public eye, but like the tight end position. And this is why I thought from the beginning it was perfect. Not only because I kind of know Travis pretty well, but. And I also know Taylor through her songs, which is. And her documentary. T. Travis, tight end. He's not expecting to be the star. Like, the quarterback is the start. Tight end is like, I'll block. I'll do this. Like, okay. Being in shad, actually in shadow of offensive line and in shadow of wide receiver and all. Everybody's in shadow of quarterback. So it's like, I don't think he is. I think he's pumped to, like, walk behind her as she's walking into a place, and he's just enjoying it, like, from the beginning. I think that's why I was a believer that they fucking. Hey, this might be like the perfect for Taylor. I don't know how many dudes are going to be able to handle. She's the biggest star on earth. It's like, a lot of dudes, especially successful ones, have egos and, you know, all that. And it's like Travis is like, seemingly. He's an exclamation point, right? Yeah, she described him. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Human exclamation point.
Pat McAfee
Just like, no, just like, yup, let's do this and let's have a good time doing. It's like, I'm so happy for them, man. I am. I'm really happy for them. The last name Tick will be interesting thing. Shout out both their camps, by the way, for not leaking out. Like, it was only Taylor's. Yeah. Ed Kelsey came out and said it's been two weeks. Where the have you guys been, dude? Whole family changed life.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
AJ Hawk
Oh, yeah.
Boston Connor
Big time.
Pat McAfee
Everybody's watching everything, Mom. You're going to be wanted to be talking everywhere. Let's. Let's make sure we're not saying anything too, you know, I mean, that's crazy.
Boston Connor
Kylie's got a podcast.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Kylie's beast. Jason Kelsey, too. Best center we've ever had. Catapulted into. Hey, by the way, here's super football guy to the world, you know. Yeah. Jason Kelsey. Here he is. And then her talking about him and his. Tim's doing the base jump in the ice. He just appeared. He levitated. I was impressed by that as well.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah.
Pat McAfee
Once again, great representation. Representative of football. This drunk, big, massive man.
Boston Connor
Still able in the snow. Yeah. Buffalo.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Still able to just fly. It's like, that's football, baby. That's right. We appreciate that. Congrats to them once again. That is cool. That's really cool. They had to be so happy to find each other, you know, I'd assume so legit. They probably assume they were never going to find each other. Somebody like this get married, both of them. Public relationships.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, I mean, certainly not. It's just a wild situation.
Pat McAfee
It's a wild time, dude.
Ty Schmidt
Worked out.
Pat McAfee
Imagine if. If she could sell out every. She could sell every ticket she wanted to sell for the rest of her life. Like right now. If she announced a stadium tour in the United States of America, it would sell it in five minutes. Foxy, do you not agree with that 1,000 thousand percent? Foxy's got a swifty he lives with as well. Yes. So it's like five's a lot. What's that?
Boston Connor
Five minutes is a lot.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, you're right. It'd be 90 seconds. There was no heads up. There was zero heads up. She just put out a post on Instagram. Boom. Here's 250, 000 tickets available. Yep. Those things would disappear in 90 seconds. However fast the link can go through there, she's able to do. That's a crazy existence. Like, that is just an absolutely crazy existence. And for them to be able to kind of counterbalance each other. And what's weird, the swifty in my household has always said from the beginning, out of all the boyfriends she ever had, Travis was the one where they were like, oh, they might get married. And like, all the swifties were like, this is it. This is the time Travis is going to be the one. And that's just kind of been the thing since they started dating, which I think is pretty cool, that it actually is happening. Yeah, they're so high school, dude.
Boston Connor
They are.
Tone
Can't give up on love.
Pat McAfee
Travis is tall too, so it's not like, you know, I think some of those dudes actual shadow.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah, yeah, definitely.
Pat McAfee
Come on, Taylor. Come On. Yeah. This is called a crowd. You've never seen one. This is what it is, you know, like that's seemingly what it was in the past. All right, age, let's get the hell out of here. We'll be back tomorrow. Good show tomorrow. Tomorrow's Thursday. Say.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, sure is.
Boston Connor
College football.
Pat McAfee
Holy man.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, we got football tomorrow.
Boston Connor
Got football tomorrow. Big ones.
Pat McAfee
Nebraska, Cincy.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Watch out.
Ty Schmidt
I like what you're doing, Tony.
Pat McAfee
Chat GP tone. Yeah, I love it. Six and a half.
Boston Connor
Of course you like it.
Pat McAfee
It feels like a 4.25 round. Up to four and a half to me. Books don't know yet. That's what you were sounded like when you were talking about your Excel spreadsheet with Chat gp.
Tone
I didn't mean to come off like that, but if I did, I'm not. Not apologizing for it.
Pat McAfee
All right. Hey, if Chat GP cone is the game changer, I'm in.
Tone
I could go and 10 this week and then I'll just burn the entire AI.
Pat McAfee
Don't give it. Don't give it up. Don't you guys stick with it. Don't you think?
Tone
Yeah, you do have to. You just got to get it there and then you got.
Pat McAfee
You got to talk to it.
Boston Connor
Yeah. You need a five week molding sample size. There it is. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Need to. Need to mold it, shape it.
Tone
By the way, the first game tomorrow's at 5:30.
Pat McAfee
So it's like, yes, we're really in it. Friday, me and AJ will be in Columbus, Ohio, inside a stadium.
Tone
Nice.
Pat McAfee
We will not be taking whole show to outside stadium. There's a lot of events set up because Coach Corso's last that I did not know about literally until yesterday. So had to kind of adjust here. Honored. So that's not even a question. It's just like. Got it. Got it. Yeah. There's a lot of celebrations of Coach Corso.
Ty Schmidt
Rightfully so.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
So much commitment to sport Y so much commitment to sport. Over the years. They were shown all of his highlights. Just so many memories, just so many moments on television over one lifetime is insane to think about. Let alone where the sport and the show was whenever he started versus where it's at now. It's like he has to look around and be incredibly proud of what he's, I assume, you know, and getting a chance to honor him at the ESPYs. It was cool because it did feel like he did kind of take it in for a little bit. You know, sometimes you don't know if somebody's really Like, I don't want to say appreciative, because obviously everybody's appreciative, but, like, because you've done so. He's accomplished so much. It's like at some point you kind of get numb to people telling you how awesome you are, you know, because there's also people that tell you how bad you are. So, like, in Coach Corso was very much, much like, I don't want to become friends with the coaches. I don't want to. Like, I am just kind of doing my thing. Universally loved human for the last, what, 20 years, basically, of his TV days, Kirk talked about the first. And not everybody loved him. You know, this entire thing that carries him, I assume through the entire thing about how he is, it did feel like he took it in and I was incredibly, like, happy for him, you know, because, like, hey, man, they don't just do this for nobody, you know, like, this is. This is a huge ordeal because you've earned it. And I think everybody's been trying to make sure he knows that. Like, and I think it's been beautiful to kind of watch AJ I mean.
AJ Hawk
I sure hope he knows that. I would. I would imagine he. Hopefully he, like, accepts all the praise and what people are saying, because you're right. Like, you could talk to anybody. You don't even have to know what football is barely. And they could probably point out Lee course and be like, I've seen that guy always. I always see clips of him and I see him on TV putting on the, you know, the mascot. Like, people still. Even if you don't know anything, I think a lot of people still know what Lee Corso is.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, yeah. He's synonymous with the Sport. The number two sport in America, college football. NFL is number one. College football is number two. And it's like whenever Coach Corso started 30 some years ago, 40, I don't know what it was now. I just always say 30 some years. But that was a few years ago. We might have creeped into 40. I don't know how many years it was, but, like, when it was like the. That it was just him on a chair, you know, him, Fowler and Herb street watching that to what it has just game day, let alone the whole sport of college football. It's like, what a job well done. What a life's work. What a Life's work. Yeah. 38 years he's been doing it. So it is creeping to 40 in this entire thing. But it's like his life's work has been displayed and you can see the success of it and the celebration of him will be awesome on Saturday. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
It's going to be a special show. I'm looking forward to it. And then right after that boom. Ohio State Texas and it.
Pat McAfee
His last headgear in the Horseshoe. Yeah, that's going to be.
Boston Connor
He better do it.
Pat McAfee
Baby face.
Boston Connor
He better do.
Tone
Hopefully right after the headgear.
Boston Connor
He better do it.
Pat McAfee
Could you imagine?
Boston Connor
That's all I'm saying.
Pat McAfee
Could you imagine?
Boston Connor
Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
Pat McAfee
That would be all time. Last one ever. People crying Ah, it.
Boston Connor
Yeah. Yeah. Most headgear. T's picked most is the Buckeyes.
Pat McAfee
Oh my God. First one too. That would be.
AJ Hawk
He's not scared.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
You want to talk about a walk off.
Pat McAfee
That would be a. I mean I hope. Yeah. I would lose my up there. That would be sick. But he's going to get it right. His record is a very good one. He is going to go for whoever he thinks actually going to win, which I respect. I might try to drop in there.
Boston Connor
Though, like, hey, you better do another.
Tone
One of these the old days one last time.
Pat McAfee
The entire boom on the way out. Oh my God. How many people in there? 101. What? 105.
AJ Hawk
108.
Pat McAfee
Something like that. 108,000 people. That would be epic. It will be regardless because the place is going to go. It's regardless. It is epic. We're talking strictly. If he was to decide I'm going.
Ty Schmidt
To heal in this place one last time.
Pat McAfee
What that would just feel. I hope not. He's going to pick. I'm excited to see who he picks actually because that is probably who he thinks winning national championship. Yeah. I think he's been pretty close a lot. So we will learn from watch, enjoy and honor the shit out of them as we celebrate a huge kickoff to college football. What a big slate. Dude. On Saturday.
AJ Hawk
Awesome. That's amazing. We don't. We don't get this usually early man.
Pat McAfee
Early. I think there's an entire campaign going on about like not scheduling easy games too by like maybe Nike or something. Something like that.
Boston Connor
Well, that's why they need to put all the teams that play. I mean I hope Sanford Steve's right. They need to put all those teams in whether like let's say Ohio State gets has three losses. But one of their losses is Texas and they're at 14. Like come on.
Tone
They'll be in still a favor three.
Pat McAfee
The winners and.
Boston Connor
The hunter guys will.
Pat McAfee
All make the cfp. That's the last time boys hope we enjoyed it.
Ty Schmidt
I did.
Pat McAfee
Oh, call him back. He had something for Gumpy. Call Steven.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, yeah, you're right.
Pat McAfee
Oh, my God. I just remembered. We missed that. We all missed it.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, we did.
Pat McAfee
I put it on all the. No.
Boston Connor
Yeah, you did. You did.
Ty Schmidt
Completely forgot.
Pat McAfee
I put it on everybody. Hey, make sure I get to what Steve wants to tell Gump.
Boston Connor
Got a good cuz.
Pat McAfee
Gumpy said, I got a good stat that'll make Gump feel good about the dolphins. And he started to say. He said, whoa, whoa, whoa. Sitting front here. And we never asked. Hold on. One of my. My radio is not in. I cannot hear you. We'll call tomorrow.
Ty Schmidt
He's got another commitment.
Pat McAfee
Yeah.
Boston Connor
Another interview?
Pat McAfee
No, he had a zoom call.
Ty Schmidt
Oh, okay.
Boston Connor
Bless you.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, thank you. All right. We'll be back tomorrow. Thursday already?
Stanford Steve
Yeah, it is.
Pat McAfee
Feels like I've lived this week a lot.
Tone
You're on Thursday.
Pat McAfee
Early morning. You know, this is the new me. I don't know if you guys know, if you're like me. We can text about 4:45. Sure feels like that's the thing. We do.
Boston Connor
Hell yeah.
Pat McAfee
So we'll see you out there.
Boston Connor
Yeah, I'll be up.
Pat McAfee
I'll be up.
Tone
I don't know if you know, it's already 5:04am right now in Brisbane.
Pat McAfee
That's right. So 2am is noon. That's how I know, cuz 12 plus 2. You guys get pretty active. Active. You guys got pretty active from about midnight to 2 there? Yeah, sure got pretty active.
Ty Schmidt
Yep.
Pat McAfee
You know, I'm trying to go to sleep. I'm trying. And there's just. And I turn it off. But somehow, because I think it's a pinned group text, it still vibrates every once in a while. And I look at it, 48 text messages. All right, I'm not looking at that. And then I go take a piss at about 2:30, I open, it shows live. All right, I gotta see what's going on here. Okay. Rap sheet looks awesome. And is that his kid on set? That sure is not the same kid, though.
Boston Connor
No, no.
Pat McAfee
So I'm at 2, 2, 3. I'm literally half asleep. I think that's a different kid. Is that another kid?
Boston Connor
Different poopy haircut? I can't tell.
Pat McAfee
No, they got good haircuts. But then I had to text him, hey, hey, say what's up to other kid. You know, because would like to. Yeah. At least be hospitable, even though I'm in the other country. But I don't want to say Shout out to the other kid if it's the same kid. Because then the other guy thinks, yeah, that's more disrespectful. I shouldn't text anything. Exactly 245. This is all happening in my head. And then you guys are in the goddamn group text. And then I get text. Are you okay? Haven't seen you on the show. Everybody.
AJ Hawk
Talk to get back. Back to sleep. After that.
Pat McAfee
It is. Yeah.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you what, though. Australia, I would definitely recommend.
Boston Connor
Yeah, I'm gonna go.
Pat McAfee
I would definitely reckon so far. So far you just gotta account for. They say three days of travel. Like, we also asked NFL person, how's football game gonna work there? NFL game. It is so far. And they used to play a preseason game in Japan, I think, so they have had to experience far trips. Australia is so far. It is so far. They're watching super bowl Monday morning, 9am or whatever, you know. So it's like. That's how different it is. You just. Every person I talk to is like, when you travel to Australia, you just add three. Three days is what the travel is going to be. One and a half and one and a half. Like, that's basically what you're bookending on the backside. And then you got everything else in between. It's like a football season. How. How do you just lose? I don't know how.
Tone
You just lose about three days.
Pat McAfee
I. I honestly don't. How is that on a massive disadvantage?
Boston Connor
You got to do it this week, next year. If they're going to do it, they should do it next week on Thursday.
Pat McAfee
And then they get first week off as well. So they get like two weeks back then week one.
Boston Connor
Those two teams have week one bonus buy. Their week zero. They would be the week zero game.
Pat McAfee
So they would get a bonus buy.
Boston Connor
Yes.
Pat McAfee
Which would actually be the. But they're working.
Boston Connor
But yeah, ahead of everybody else. Yeah, exactly. So, like in. I don't know if you move their cuts up when it comes to cut down or even if you could do that.
Pat McAfee
I don't know how you fix it because you can't.
Boston Connor
You genuinely can't do it.
Pat McAfee
So far it is so. And there's no WI fi over the Pacific. A lot of Australians would show up, though, right? Yes, I think so. Yeah, I think so. It feels like it. I. I was not recognized over there much, but then when. When I was in places where there was pockets of people, like, if that makes sense, like, walked into a sports place and it's like three people in there knew I was. So that means 50 people knew it. Who I was, because they told, you know, the conversation. But walking about, you know, all good.
Ty Schmidt
Freeze a bird.
Pat McAfee
It was awesome.
Boston Connor
Sweet.
Pat McAfee
Holy. It was awesome. I had a blast. I was just sitting on a bench on downtown, just fucking judging everybody walking by, nobody looking at me. I was like, I think I miss people watching in public. And, yeah, I do. Just fucking had a long black, which is what they call their black coffee over there. I got a long black. Two of your fake sugars. Because you guys don't have Splenda here. Tells me something about what I'm putting in my coffee every day. Crazy. You guys don't have that. It tastes so good, but I guess I'll do this stuff. And sunglasses on. What the fuck is that guy walking by? Next person. Wow. Nose piercing to the top lip. Two ear back to bottom lip. Oh, yeah. Unbelievable.
Boston Connor
Good luck.
Pat McAfee
Unbelievable arrangement. How long does that take to every morning walk by? Good to see them. Sporty fella comes walking by. Good to see that. Holding a. Holding a footy ball. Stop him. Ask him. If I was to punch that ball out, what would. What would happen happen? Probably fight your bloke. I go, what ball? Security, you know, that kind of a. A thing. He goes, I wouldn't do that. Don't touch my ball. All right, guys, Good ball. Good ball. I'll see you later. Like, just able to have those very natural, random, candid interactions with. It was really cool. Like, I really. I love. And everybody was cool. Like, everybody that I talked to was cool. And I. I don't want to say I get special treatment in places, but I do nowadays. Like, I can't tell you what some restaurants like, because that restaurant is pulling out all the stuff they're putting me. Yeah. And it's a very cool thing. You know, there's a lot of drawbacks, obviously, to this entire life that I am very lucky and thankful I'm not. This is not me complaining. There. There's a lot of pluses that come with this entire thing, but I can't tell you how a place is because they're going to be nicer to me if somebody knows me there than they would be to my dad if my dad was to go in there, you know? So it's just like a little different world. I've experienced a different reality. All of a sudden. We all have. I think I. I don't want to speak for everybody else over there. Like, it was cool to just fucking be. Like, it was very cool just to be Everywhere, you know, and everybody was cool. Everybody had a personality. Like, I think that's. I was in England. I thought everybody had a personality. Like, you could just like, talk shit. And they're gonna come back and they have that accent. So it's immediately a little bit of sauce on it. It was like Australia felt like the same way. Did I tell the story about the gigantic dude?
Boston Connor
Not on here.
Pat McAfee
This guy, 50 some years old, face looks like 6, 5, 6, 6. Walks into the hotel I'm staying at. Tank Top Monster. This guy just traps. Didn't look like he was on roids either. It was like, active. He just looked like a. A massive lad, for lack of better words. As he's walking out, I stop him. Excuse me. Excuse me, sir. What do you do? How is this? And he, like, gets, like, startled for a second, and I'm like, you're a monster. What are we doing here? Oh, circuit training a lot, you know, goes through this entire thing about what he's doing and how he does it was like, so incredibly kind. Like, what an uncomfortable question to hear from somebody. But I was so impressed, I lit. I think he was, like, taken back that I even asked. Then he, like, gave me the game. He was like, cycle high intensity training, you know. And then he had, like, a military tat. And I was with First Sergeant Gartland, the guy that went to our high school who served 22 years in the Marines, was eight years as a drill instructor at Parris island and in San Diego. And, you know, he's literally guy I've known since high school. School got to be in the movie with me because Peter let him in. He showed me around. Parasite, like, gave me a lot of game in this entire thing. Like, very, very thankful for him. Hilarious human being. I mean, let's not undercut. Just being around him is outrageous. Has been since high school as well. Like, this dude is hilarious, but certified in this entire thing. The big, huge dude had, you know, some military tat or something. Because the Aussies in USA, especially in World War II. Oh, yeah, like Guadalcanal, there's a bunch of, like, little fights and battles before we truly get to Japan that, like, Australia was. There were seven scouts, I guess, from Australia in Guadalcanal that showed all our people around as we were moving up the islands and they, like, took care of us. Australia got hit pretty hard, I guess, by Japan. So they obviously had their own. It was like Australian, USA military. Very, very tight. I think I learned that as I was over there. So listening to First Sergeant Gartland and this massive dude have. This military conversation was just, like, so cool. It was like. It was just a. A welcoming country, if that makes sense. But there's not a lot of about.
Boston Connor
Yeah, we don't like weed.
Pat McAfee
You're putting your seatbelt on the back seat. There's one homeless person we saw.
Tone
Saw a lot of people reply to yesterday.
Pat McAfee
You know. Know that you're supposed to put your.
Tone
Seat belt on in the backseat of America, too, Pat.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but it's not. Your car's not yelling at me.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Getting an Uber. Soon as.
Tone
I just saw a lot of those replies.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, I did see that as well. Yeah. I was, like, valid. What I'm saying is American cars aren't chirpy about.
Ty Schmidt
No, they're not only in the front seat.
Pat McAfee
The Australian car. We get in an Uber as soon as we sit down, that thing's like, you now, now.
Boston Connor
You seat bel.
Pat McAfee
That's literally now, now, now. And then the driver. I'm not moving until this thing, you know? So it's like you sit down and, like, immediately. Let me try to. Where is the. There's the middle one here, too. If I put this into the middle.
Boston Connor
One, will it stop?
Pat McAfee
No, you gotta put it in your. It's down in. You know what? It's done.
Boston Connor
Oh, yeah. Stuck between.
Pat McAfee
I had to get in there, dig the thing out. Thing shuts up. Now I'm, like, stuck, you know, underneath this thing. Is that good bloke? Yep. Yeah. Thank you.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Thank you.
Boston Connor
There.
Pat McAfee
Where you headed? And we just roll. Oh, my God. These things are demanding.
Boston Connor
They're taking care of their people and keeping them safe and making them feel good from. From their food. It's crazy, dude.
Pat McAfee
It's unbelievable.
Boston Connor
Crazy that a country would do that.
Pat McAfee
For their people, their food. Like, I don't. It's gonna be hard for me. Not every single time it comes up just to talk about it. Foxy was like this whenever he went to Italy.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Italy and South Africa. I couldn't believe it. You just feel like a million dollars no matter what you eat. Whole bowl of pasta. You can eat that and run two miles after I ate a whole pizza.
Boston Connor
Don't do this. This is how you hang from doorknobs. Okay? You just kind of let it be.
Pat McAfee
I don't want to get into a political debate. And I was told that whenever a. I forget who I was talking to, they're like, what are you going to say about Australia when you go back? I'm like, the food is just so much better. This is unbelievable. They're like, you know that's going to get you in some. In what?
Boston Connor
It's going to get to hanging from a doormat.
Pat McAfee
No, I guess that's a thing, though. Like what is allowed and what is not allowed in food. Whatever. I'm not, I'm not a scientist. All I'm telling you is by my research, I went to Australia. The food's quality is so good. It's real. Feel so good. And then I want to talk about it, but like, your functions just so much.
Boston Connor
They work the way they're supposed to.
Pat McAfee
Energy levels, everything's good. I lost weight. I was eating more. You, I don't.
AJ Hawk
You eat meat over there?
Pat McAfee
Oh, yeah. They have Canadian bacon instead of like our bacon. I, I assume our bacon's not actually, I, I, I don't know everything that was than what American is. I just assume. Oh, like whenever you watch a commercial for a bank and it says, don't. We're not like other banks. We don't something. And I'm learning about my bank through that commercial. I'm like, does my fucking bank do that? I don't like that at all. And then you call bank, they say, well, we do that because it was happening with the food. Like when I couldn't get Splenda, I was like, oh, no, there's a reason why. What do they know? If they're not letting it here, they only like, that's not, not good. And then I go and try to like bacon. I'm gonna get some bacon. They bring out Canadian bacon and I'm like, I'm a STRIPS guy. Yeah, all the time.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
It's like, well, they don't even have those here. It's like, well, what the happened? Even the coffee, Coffee so good. Feels like we could do that with coffee here. No, I don't know how we aren't.
Boston Connor
No, you can't. Can't do it.
Stanford Steve
Espresso. You take a shot of espresso.
Boston Connor
It's diesel.
Pat McAfee
Diesel.
Boston Connor
It was the same in Spain.
Pat McAfee
I was taking espresso shot.
Boston Connor
I was zinging.
Pat McAfee
It was unbelievable. I, I've only quickly stopped through Spain. I've never been to Italy. That's the longest I've been in another country, I think there other than America, obviously, thank God.
Boston Connor
Well, turns out.
Pat McAfee
Oh, what? No, let's not get crazy. You want to America, trust me.
Boston Connor
But I mean, if there's one thing that would affect your life more than anything, it would be the food.
Pat McAfee
And it's so unbelievable. It Is frustrating. It was so good. So we went through Donnie's Don's. I think it was called Donnie's. It was like American Denny's.
Boston Connor
Donnie Bakers.
Pat McAfee
Donnie. It was Donnie. Definitely Donnie. And up there, they got like, decks, big decks. And then there's like restaurant with front patio. That's, like, kind of fenced off, but you can walk in. And then restaurant with their front patio. So you, like, walk through other restaurants, basically, to get through one. We sat down at this one place that was packed. We're like, this place must be good. Let's sit there. And then we saw a sign for Donnie. So it was like pizza, pasta. And it was like, American food, basically. I'm like, we should go see what American food is, like, super healthy. Like, if all the laws were to be passed to get our food, like, what it is over here. We should go check that out at this Donnie's guy. Future is bright if this happens. Mozzarella sticks were unbelievable. It was breaded mozzarella. It was actual breaded, like, mozzarella in there. It was so good. The pizza, ridiculous. The pasta, outrageous. How about just bread in general? Like, if you're just eating a plain sourdough. Yes. Plain piece of bread. Yeah. I thought to myself, what the is in our bread? That I could just house this bread? And it just. It feels good. Meatballs.
Ty Schmidt
This isn't making me feel great.
Boston Connor
I was just gonna say, like, this doesn't piss you off? You guys are just telling us stuff that we're never going to half.
Tone
I'm bumped out.
Boston Connor
Like, that's what. That's what. Hey, guys, I got this.
Pat McAfee
I'm just telling you. I'm just telling you this exist.
Boston Connor
That's why I'm surprised you guys aren't getting pissed, because it's like. Like you've experienced the other side.
Pat McAfee
You saw what I ate this morning. I'm just. I'm. I'm very worried to go dive back into forever. I honestly don't know what to do now. Granted, you give me a couple days here, I'm gonna have a sandwich.
Boston Connor
Yeah. And then all you're gonna think is, damn, am I could eat the same sandwich in a different country.
Ty Schmidt
No, don't do that. You're going to have a terrible.
Boston Connor
That's exactly what's going to happen.
Ty Schmidt
It's going to be otherworldly how bad it is. And then you're going to say, okay, I'm back.
Pat McAfee
Guess who's back.
Tone
Bingo.
Pat McAfee
Yeah. Back again.
Boston Connor
Dump it. Yeah. Diarrhea is back. Yeah. Tell A friend, tell a friend and.
Pat McAfee
I'm back for good. Taking that long ride. I don't think so. Got. I will say that was the. That was the biggest clear difference between us and them was like the food quality was just so good. Everything that sucks. Went to like small cafe. And these eggs, you see the person making it, it comes out perfect. It's like, what are these eggs? Eggs, mate. You guys don't get it. Your food is. Were there a lot of American made cars? I don't know. I always observe that when I go somewhere else. I saw a ram truck. I saw a ram truck. Wow, that was cool to see. I did see a ram truck.
Tone
It's official truck of down under.
Pat McAfee
I don't. Yeah, maybe. Was it.
Boston Connor
Was it Aussie driving it or was it one of the people that were just over there temporarily?
Pat McAfee
There's not a lot of Americans over there. Okay, there's not because it's a far trip. At least from my experience. It might have been.
Boston Connor
Would make sense because you literally can't.
Ty Schmidt
Talk to any family or anything. You can't live on.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's hard. It's hard to do Australia if you're an American strictly because of the time. You're pretty isolated. But if you were to take family and go for like, you would have.
AJ Hawk
To go the closest place. Where do people come from?
Pat McAfee
Asia. There's a lot of Asia influence. A lot of Asia influence there. Uk, a lot of Europe. We had guy named Ricky was working at tfp, the gym. He served us breakfast, lunch and dinner one day because we were just hanging out his place St. He was from. Not. I don't know his last name. Ricky had a lot of sauce though. He was from Scotland. He was. He was great, man. There was a lady named Kim that was there from England. And then there was a couple people from Asian countries that were working there. It's like that is kind of. It felt like a lot of Asia influence in Australia.
Boston Connor
English too. Just from way back.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, in the English way back. Yeah. It was a cool country, man. Far, dude. Yeah.
Ty Schmidt
So far.
Boston Connor
Hike.
Pat McAfee
But you know, if you can power through the first seven hours. So if you get a flight that lands in the morning. Okay. Lands like 6:00am for instance. Our flight landed in Melbourne at 6:00am so First Sergeant Gartland goes, I've done this before. We got to stay up halfway through this. We're falling asleep. We're waking up 6am we're Australian. And I was like, in theory, genius. This is a good idea now staying up for the first seven hours after already doing a day. That's 20 some hours of staying up. Now you're at 20 some hours and you're up in a plane where everybody else is asleep and you have no wi fi. So there's some real mental toughness checks there through those first seven hours. Once you get though to a sleepable amount of time, then you're. You're loading up on everything that is putting you to sleep. Whatever you, your choice is, whatever that is. Then snoozing hard. And then they're waking you up right before you hitting the ground. We hit the ground. We were up like 6am it's like, all right, I woke up for the day. So we didn't get for like multiple days and then coming back, same thing. But it's hard to stay up.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah.
Boston Connor
To get there.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, it's hard. Cuz even if you nap for a little bit, then you're up, then you nap again. You're kind of just like. You're not really. But boy. Coming back, I saw 5,222 miles to the destination and I was exhausted. And I look over at first Sergeant Garland and he's over there just fighting the whole thing. He didn't even download anything on his phone.
Boston Connor
Just staring straight.
Pat McAfee
What do you mean he raw dogged it?
Boston Connor
Yeah, just looking straight.
Pat McAfee
The whole raw dog. 16 hours. There's. There's movies in the thing. Yeah. He goes, I don't want it. He watches the flight map.
Boston Connor
Sicko.
AJ Hawk
That's awesome. Good for him.
Tone
Eboard.
Boston Connor
Different sick. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
He's like, I like this. Oh my God. He was so funny. He was so funny throughout that entire thing. We were around each other a lot. It was like towards the end we're like, we've been around each other a lot for 10 days. Just dropped out of nowhere. Haven't really seen him since high school. Yeah. Like would see him at different like gatherings and then all of a sudden we're 10 days different country, nobody else to talk to. Here you go. Good luck out there. Oh yeah. And put your seat belts on soon as you get in the back seat of that car. It was awesome. It was a fun trip, man. I would recommend Australia. Brisbane Olympics, 2032. I think. I think we will certainly try to do something.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
20, 20, 30.
Boston Connor
I'll put it in my calendar.
Stanford Steve
Me too.
Pat McAfee
Sounds good. Sounds good.
Boston Connor
Good. I'll throw it in there. Perfect.
Pat McAfee
You're dead serious.
Boston Connor
Yeah, dead serious.
AJ Hawk
You should have seen how many people do something there.
Pat McAfee
You should have seen how Many people I told, coming back for the Olympics. Coming back, I thought I was messed up.
AJ Hawk
I thought I messed up the math in my head or something for a second.
Pat McAfee
But no, I didn't.
AJ Hawk
Plan for the future.
Pat McAfee
Concierge people at the hotel, you know, great people, good vibes. Every time we walked in there, no matter what time it was. So you guys come back for the Olympics. Okay. All right, we'll see you then. Out. Seven years from now.
Boston Connor
Book a hotel like Michael Scott.
Pat McAfee
I. I must have told a hundred people I'd see him at the Olympics. It's a good move.
Boston Connor
Smart.
Pat McAfee
This is really good food. I'll see you guys at the Olympics. Opening.
AJ Hawk
Opening ceremonies right around the corner.
Boston Connor
Guys.
AJ Hawk
I'll see you there.
Boston Connor
I'm pumped, man.
Pat McAfee
I'm telling you. I sold it though. As if, like it was next year. It's sure. But everybody should start planning now.
Boston Connor
I already am.
Pat McAfee
Okay.
Boston Connor
Already looking into hotels.
Pat McAfee
I got the hotel. I know where we're staying. Oh, perfect. Don't you worry about that. We're actually calling up Damien Cavallucci. Okay. Damien Cavallucci. He's the owner of TFP and also surrounding buildings. This dude is a genius. This dude makes good shit. Dude put a fucking tree in the middle of his five story gym. Oh, but a full fucking tree. This thing is the tree of life.
Tone
Life, genius.
Pat McAfee
It's lit. It's. The vibes are just music. Not too terrible.
Ty Schmidt
Sure.
Pat McAfee
That was a bad way to describe it. Not too much, you know, not too, not too. You know. Everybody, I think, kind of likes the music that's playing. Even though a lot of people have headphones on. If you don't still gonna feel good walking through. You got cold towels available everywhere you need it. Everything. Every lift. Altitude room, room. Just a full room. That's at 5,000, 280ft. You want to do some cardio in there? Die. Go ahead, just do it. We went in there, gut check, hit that thing. Just see what we could do. Walked out. You feel like you're actually walking on your whole body. Feels like, like a high. You watch Walking on Clouds. They have an elevator that goes right through the middle of it with stairs right next to it. The elevator completely glass. Okay. We're in that altitude. Altitude room, third floor. Getting after it. Elevators right over here. Tree of life is right here. Okay, we're getting after it. In the altitude room. We see two other people on this movie. We will not say their names, okay. Because this is not good. Taking the elevator down the building. We're in a gym. We are in a. You're in a weight room. And that Damian Cavalucci, the guy that founded this place, he made that a glass elevator so that you, you could see who is in. I think it's for service. You know, take towels up the place, food, do that.
Boston Connor
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Next day scene. It was hard not to just say you look like a guy that would take a goddamn elevator in a weight room. And when there's stairs directly next to it, you soft potato patch looking. It's hard not to do that. And I told them that was hard for me not to do that. And then they started attacking me obviously. Cuz I don't care about time enough and they have places to go and yada yada yada. It was. This place was the hub of our entire operation basically. And Damen Kavaluchi don't care.
Boston Connor
Caval?
Tone
Hell yeah, Caval.
Pat McAfee
I mean you got a lot of pison around here. First question, he was up north a little bit more.
Ty Schmidt
Okay, nice.
Boston Connor
Sure.
Pat McAfee
I'll tell you what. I know one Cavalouch down here and he took care of us.
Boston Connor
That's all you need is one.
Pat McAfee
I even bought a pair of TFPs. You guys saw those yesterday. Crocs? Yes. DFPS.
Boston Connor
Crocs, yes.
Tone
Comfy, aren't they?
Pat McAfee
Those are my TFPs.
Boston Connor
Crocs purchase.
Pat McAfee
Had to wear them at TFP.
Boston Connor
Crocs on the shoe says it on the. On the little thing.
Pat McAfee
My wife's doing the same thing with me here. These are this whole song and dance.
Tone
Hey, comfy, aren't they?
Pat McAfee
Crocs are in style.
Boston Connor
Yeah. You can either buy the Crocs, you.
Pat McAfee
Can buy into your Crocs a warm at TFP. They're TFPs you can buy into your.
Boston Connor
Crocs that you purchase at tfp.
Pat McAfee
Oh, actually I purchased from down the road cuz they were all selling. But we need to get them.
Boston Connor
Okay.
Pat McAfee
I was trying to get a pair of slides, you know, cuz there's multiple hot tub, cold tub, sauna, snow room. And when we showed up without sandals, we look like.
Tone
Sure.
Pat McAfee
Okay. So we said we're not doing that again. We need to go get TFPs. So we're trying to get slides. Crocs tough to find over there.
Tone
Crocs is much better.
Pat McAfee
The Crocs were very readily available, so we got the team.
Boston Connor
You're a croc guy. It's cool.
Tone
They're a vastly superior machine.
Pat McAfee
I wore them home on the flight home. Yeah, they were pretty nice.
AJ Hawk
Your Crocs good travel shoes.
Pat McAfee
Yeah, but I came right from the plate. You'll never see me those on my.
Boston Connor
You have.
Ty Schmidt
You need to run outside at your house. You slip them up gun. Every single time.
Pat McAfee
Every single time AQ Shipley is about to do a full song victory dance about me having.
Stanford Steve
Yeah.
Tone
Bring you a pair of all those.
Pat McAfee
Shitty shoes he wears.
Boston Connor
Yeah, that's the thing. You had a pair of shoes in.
Pat McAfee
There to put on in where?
Boston Connor
In your office.
Pat McAfee
Was that in Australia?
Boston Connor
No, when you came back in here.
Pat McAfee
Yesterday, I was wearing my tfp.
Boston Connor
You wear your Crocs.
Tone
I know.
Pat McAfee
I'm still in the middle of my trap.
Boston Connor
That's why I'm just stunned. I just.
Pat McAfee
I was disappointed. You.
Tone
You weren't wearing them today.
Pat McAfee
I. I have bad news for you.
Boston Connor
And my job dropped.
Pat McAfee
You're never gonna see those on these.
Tone
Listen, if you don't want them, send.
Pat McAfee
Them my way, man. You're not getting my TFPs.
Tone
Okay?
Boston Connor
That's what I'm saying. Crocs.
Pat McAfee
They do say croc, which makes no sense to me because those are TFPs. They got crocs right there across the.
Boston Connor
Top and on the bottom and on the back.
Ty Schmidt
I haven't looked at Brandon.
Pat McAfee
I did.
Tone
They shouldn't have him.
Ty Schmidt
Really.
Boston Connor
Mode, Brandon.
Pat McAfee
Well, can't wear them in sport mode because that would defeat the purpose of them being the TFPs.
Boston Connor
Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Plus we're trying to easy.
Boston Connor
If you wear them in sport mode too, then you're a loser. So.
Pat McAfee
Saw a guy working out in TFPs at TFP.
Boston Connor
I bet.
Ty Schmidt
Sport mode.
Pat McAfee
Sport mode. Yep. He was locked in completely. It's tough to take him serious, but I understood that he was probably coming from the fifth floor where the pool was.
Boston Connor
Probably the elevator. Yeah.
Pat McAfee
Two different locker rooms. Had a locker. And both, by the way. Nice. Just so we understand what all was happening. Full menu. Knew it ahead of time. Well, food was coming. Tomorrow our special will be this. Yeah, put us down for two of those. Can't hang out in my hotel room because it's directly connected to the public pool outside. So I was part of 14 different conversations of people that were having their day at a pool which was two feet outside of my door. I learned a lot about a lot of people. And there's a guy getting married. It sounds like some of his friends are not happy about that. I don't out anybody, but they need to be more supportive over there. That guy needs to hear positive things.
Boston Connor
Been there.
Pat McAfee
What? Be a friend. Tell friend something nice. Which is what we're saying.
Ty Schmidt
Yeah, exactly.
Pat McAfee
Sometimes you got to let them know we're all in this thing together. We'll see you guys tomorrow. Tomorrow's Thursday. Thursday. Week one of college football kicks off tomorrow. Let's enjoy it all. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice about change of life, oneness and the other. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, three. Goodbye. You've seen the headlines, heard the debates. The three point ball has created a.
Matt Schneidman
Monotonous rhythm to the game. Has the three pointer ruined basketball?
Pat McAfee
And how did we get here? The rise of the three point shot can be partially traced to an eccentric Kansas this genius named Martin Manley, whose story didn't turn out quite the way he imagined.
Boston Connor
I decided I wanted to have one.
