Hello beautiful people and welcome back to Lucas Oil Stadium. The Lodha's the host of the NFL Combine for the 39th straight year. This particular sports program begins now. Football is amazing, but they don't give it ease out in football, do they? This is actually a feel good golden Friday here on this February 27th. We have, we have American hero and legend Jackie Hughes currently in Lucas Oil Stadium. Last night played in Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Penguins fans, the great Yinzers gave him a massive ovation before the game started with a USA chant and everything in between. You know, you never know how that's going to go because Sidney Crosby is our guy now. At Big night Out about a year ago, I asked Sidney Crosby if he wanted to join Team America because of how long he has lived in Pittsburgh. He turned me down. A lot of people felt like that was incredibly disrespectful to ask the question, but is it now? Is it now? Still love Sid. Thank you for everything you've done for our entire city. We absolutely love you. But Jack Hughes, obviously getting the respect that he earned in the biggest stage that hockey has. 26 million people are watching in a morning game. 5am Pacific, 8am Eastern. The entire country was tuned in as the boys on the ice did what nobody thought was possible. Toppled.
B
Stupid.
A
I don't mean I'm talking sportswise, I'm not talking about your whole country here. Stupid. Canada with an incredible finish from Jock Hughes in overtime. He ate a stick earlier in the game, lost a tooth, looked like a legend, became one immediately as he goes five hole. He is in the building as he travels to St. Louis for his game tomorrow. We are incredibly thankful that he is here. And he came up to the suite and he said, hey boys, you want to take some photos of the gold medal? And everybody was like, yeah. And then he said, will you hang on to this? He had to go. I believe he's in the bows here. A shower?
C
Sure.
A
He said shower. I asked Indianapolis Colts and Lucas Oil Stadium and visit Indy people, I said, hey, Jack Hughes. And they were like to be Olympic American hero. We know Jack Hughes. They're like the teeth guy. I'm like, yeah, he's on his way here. Think he think he needs a shower. I think they shut down an entire corner of stadium which is how it should.
D
As they should.
A
So we cannot wait to catch up with him. Obviously that's a special story and will be celebrated and remembered in the sports world forever. What the boys were able to accomplish, they're back in their NHL season and I Think from the conversation I had with him up at the suite, I think that Team USA boys wish they could have had a little longer Sally together. I think that's what they were thinking. But now they're back into the NHL. The American lads that play for Canadian teams are getting treated really well. Yeah, they are going really well. You guys hate them. Trade them to Americans. Seriously, trade them to an American number 10. Come on and get them in. We would take Brady. I mean, Hallabuk, he's apologizing for winning. Hey, Hallabuk, don't you apologize for. You saw every pocket pile. This is a hockey game. And if you guys don't like them up there in Canada, which. Listen, you guys, 58 world championships, hockey is your thing. We understand that. Curling was your thing as well. Until curling. Matty Hamilton came in there. But it is our sport now. And we would like our Americans that are up there playing in Canada in a league that is obviously incredible and represented very well in the Olympic gold medal because there was other leagues represented in that Olympics as well. Two NHL refs. Everybody on the ice was in the NHL. So let's not be trying to bury the boys here, okay? They did something that was special that they've been dreaming about their entire life. We cannot wait to catch up with Jack Hughes. We also have Megan Keller joining us.
C
Hell yeah.
A
Megan Keller is currently in Ottawa, I believe, because her team, the Boston Fleet. Number one team in a pw. Yeah.
C
Wagon.
B
Duh.
A
The Boston Fleet are a great team. They have a game in Ottawa. I offered. We offered to get her a plane to come here because we thought it would be so incredibly cool to have Megan and Jack next to each other, especially with the amount of respect that they definitely have for each other. Jack's family involved with the women's team. He knows them. And he shouted out Megan immediately after scoring the goal. Would have been amazing if we had it. Schedules didn't line up. They are in the middle of their league up in Ottawa. So she will join us via FaceTime. Cannot wait to catch up with her. Daniel, Jeremiah, move the sticks, man. Who's commentating the combine will join us here in about 5, 10 minutes. Shregs. Welcome back. Shriggs. Shregs is going to be on the program. They're exchanging notes at the end of the first hour. He is taller than you think. Every see him in person, it's like, wow. Shrig's kind of tall. Cannot wait to catch up with him. And then, yeah, we'll see if there's any surprises. Maybe. Matt Patricia, defense coordinator of the Ohio State Buckeyes, had a combine night last night. I'm be honest, never did this before live in Indianapolis. So every time the combine's in town, come down here, do the show, shake some hands, head back home, obviously live here. I'm going to go to bed. No reason to stay downtown. Then a bunch of people around the NFL are like, hey, would love to have a drink with you if you're going to be in town. Hey, do you want to stop by this, hey, we're going to be in your town. Why don't you do this? And I decided, okay, I'm going to do it. And I'll tell you, they have a good time here at this thing. Oh, yeah, that's what I've heard. We had a couple bingos last night. I mean, I am way too old for pops. I don't know how these people do this at this combine every single year, because I think this is more of a marathon type situation. And the networking, the conversation, the information gathering, the questioning, I mean, you're talking about coaches asking assistant coaches what's going on in other places. Scouts Talking other scouts, GMs talking to agents and all this is happening in a couple different watering holes around Indianapolis. And I happen to be in a couple of them with me and Gumpy really put on a good performance last night, I must say, for the boys. But we, it was amazing getting to see everybody and like their thoughts on how their team season went as opposed to what we talked about for their season or something. Maybe that has been chatted about while you're having a couple ice cold beers. It was a fun night. I'm way too old for that shit. I'm gonna be hungover probably for a week, which I think, hey, fits in for me. Wearing this earrings fits in right here. We're thankful that we get to do this. We're lucky to be here. DNS. I'm sorry. DBs in tight ends will be on the field today. Yesterday was extraordinary. Out of the linebackers, I thought there was a chance that maybe we might get slower. Yep, that's not true at all. We're bigger and faster than ever at the NFL combine. And today should be the same as yesterday and tomorrow will be the same thing. I think what we saw yesterday is an indicator for what's about to happen. They are fast, they are strong, and it seems like they're more mature than they've ever been. You don't see any, like, bullshit happening because these guys have been millionaires since they're 18 years old. Fascinating development where the league's headed. Nothing but pride in where it is. Let's go to 1/2 of the hammer. Don Cowboys AP Ton Tone yesterday, big day. And you called a couple of the boys to have a big day and they certainly did.
C
Yeah, yesterday was a huge day. That was the fastest combined or fastest average time for both the linebackers and the defensive line that they've ever had. So it was the fastest class of all time so far on the defensive side. We highlighted some of these guys yesterday because they are the big names at the top of the draft and they absolutely delivered. You have to start with Sonny Styles, who athletically, when you look at all the athletic scores, when you combine all the events, had possibly the top one or two combine of all time. Okay, you jumped 43 and a half inches. He was an incredible basketball player in high school, so that's not surprising. Then he runs a 4, 4, 7. He broad jumps 11 2. He does all the three cone and the 20 yard shuttle. First in the group. He was first in literally everything, basically. As a linebacker who's 6 foot 5, 240, he was unbelievable. His partner in crime at Ohio State, Arvell Reese, who is also 6-46-full name? Yes, full name, Arvell Ruiz. He only did the 40, but that was fine. He ran a 4, 4, 6, which was unbelievable. So those two being at 6, 5, 6 4, 240, 250 running those times was unbelievable. A lot of people questioning why Ohio State didn't go back to back win a national championship. David Bailey, who' top ranked edge, number one overall.
A
Where's the number one overall pick going?
C
The Raiders from iu.
A
Yeah, thank you. I'm just saying maybe there's good teams.
C
There was just a lot of questions. Okay, David Bailey, who's the number one edge rated coming out, he ran unbelievable. 451-450-was his time. And then we talked about Jacob Rodriguez who had all the production, 250 tackles over the last two years, 15 force turnovers, whether that's interception or force fumbles the last two years. And everyone was like, okay, well what's he going to do athletically? He had like a one of the top athletic scores. So his four, him running a four five, jumping 38. Like there's no more questions about this guy either. So a big days for those guys.
A
Three Jack and Daniels with three different groups all saying Jacob Rodriguez would look very good in our uniform. That was like three different fans feel the same way. I think Three different. Everything saying, that guy would be great. And I think everybody's thinking, you know, is he going to be second, like, third? Where is Jacob Rodriguez going to end up at? So I think he has become a bell of the ball here early. After meeting with him, learning about him, and seeing him run four, six, or whatever it was, people are like, okay, so he'll be able to keep up
C
and going down to 4, 5, 7, I believe.
A
And then also his brain. He's a football guy and he's a turnover machine. I mean, so it's like he is potentially. I don't want to say the biggest jump yesterday that I. From my conversations around town last night, but I think a lot of people like Jacob Rodriguez a lot. And then whenever they met him and saw him run and do his thing, they're like, we love Jacob Rodriguez. After it all, obviously. Sonny, Styles, Arvell, Reese and Bailey. Unbelievable stuff yesterday. I was mesmerized by it.
C
A lot of guys had great days.
A
We were. We were up in the suite, literally just sitting for an hour just watching this and just so mind blown by the speed, by the talent, and that's what the combine is. It's a bunch of little moments that kind of go viral and that. That isn't necessarily always just on the field.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
Let's go to the toxic table at Boston. Connor. And great to see you, Ty.
D
You'll be back, boys.
A
Great to see you, Ty. We missed the hell out of you. And the city's better whenever you're in it, brother. Now, con man. The combine is just a series of viral events. Yes, that is kind of what it is. Daniel Jeremiah, who will be joining us here in a matter of moments, and Rich Eisen are doing a podcast while people are working out. Okay. They're doing work, and then, boom, a moment comes out of nowhere. This guy's how big? And he ran a what? Boom. And then what is that guy doing up in the suite? Who is he? You want triple platinum yesterday on a tweet? I think it's potentially because you're a patriot and it was about the Jets. But would you like to explain your side of why you thought this was a notable thing to put onto the Internet for coach Aaron Glenn and the Jets?
B
Well, first of all, I think he was in a terrible spot. I mean, we were up there for an hour, and there's a reason we were only up there for an hour because it is kind of the same thing. Thing over and over again. And Aaron Glenn, he got caught. Okay, that's all it was. He took a little tiger snooze and he had his little hand on his chest, on his face, and he fell asleep. Now, I don't blame Aaron Glenn at all. It does get a little stagnant up there. Okay? He's far away.
A
No moving air.
B
I blame NFL Network for showing him on the tv. They got him bad. And I also blame whoever else is in that room. He needs better moxie. I don't know who's around him. Scouts. Oh, they told him GMs.
E
They need to.
B
They need to be around him, keeping him awake, kind of helping him out. But my whole thing for the jets is, this is great news for the Jets. The jets are doing stuff they've never done. They're falling asleep up in the booth.
A
I'm now worried Douglas has done it. Actually, somebody put a photo up, but that.
B
That's, you know, I'm assuming. I'm assuming Bougie was probably in the front row saying, hey, Darrell.
C
Bougie, Bougie, whatever.
B
He should be falling asleep up there. He doesn't need to worry about. This is my time.
A
And now, Moji, what are they
B
now?
A
I didn't even hear you choking that one out. Whatever happened over there, because there was a conversation happening.
B
It's all a bug. It's coming back to me.
A
I don't know if you heard this yesterday. The governor called the governor of Illinois a mayor yesterday.
B
Love that.
A
That was unbelievable. He's like Mayor Pritzker up there. Can't get it figured out. It's like he's a governor.
B
Bump him up to 26.
A
So I didn't know you were going to disrespect a person's name like that.
B
I honestly, you know, lo and behold, they're picking number two overall. I don't know who's in their front office. Sue me. Okay? But another thing, too. Now, I think because of this, hey, they can't get it wrong. They were snoozing through half the things. We were looking at Sonny Styles. The jets are going to get sonny Styles at 2. And that bums me out because I think the jets might start doing everything right because they're doing everything wrong. They're doing everything that they were supposed to do leading up to this moment. Now I think maybe they say, hey, let's flip this thing on its head. We don't know what we're doing to begin with. We still stink. We fired our entire coaching staff, even though we hired that coaching staff last year. And now I think Aaron Glenn and the jets are onto something.
A
I love the fact that your entire angle is they're doing what nobody else's supposed. They're falling asleep while scouting players. Genius. This is absolutely genius move. There's a lot of people saying he was looking at his Microsoft Surface. We will certainly wait for him to kind of give a full breakdown from his perspective. Certainly look like how I have looked before when I potentially dozed off a little bit. Especially when you talk about how repetitive everything is now. DJ Band Camp is not allowed to play his bangers at all times. Whenever he gets in here, it is a welcomed bound of energy, but it is a little stagnant in here. And Aaron Glenn, I know you know this because you've been around the league a long time, and obviously your head coach, you just leave.
B
Yeah.
D
Yeah.
A
All these guys are just leaving. Like, they're just watching it on tv. So then you have no chance to get caught up. Burgess.
C
He probably did the Kanban on Wednesday night.
A
What do Tigers dream of when they take a little tiger snooze? Do they dream of mauling zebras or Halle Berry in a Catwoman suit? Well, don't you worry your little tiger head. We're about to get you back to Tyson and your cozy Tiger bed, and then we're gonna find out the best friend, Doug. And then we're gonna give him a best friend hug. The words well enough. You see, when I started that, imagine
F
if John Schneider was here for that.
A
He would have known.
C
Yeah.
A
When I started that, that's the fun little game, you know, and that's potentially coming fresh off of what I did last night. It's like, let's see if we still got this one. Haven't sang that song in a few years. But if you do see Aaron Glenn snoozing, it's hard not to think about Tyson's Tiger rolling around. Makes sense. There's a lot of magic happening here. And even though he might have missed one of the 40s, the amount of shit that's taking place in Indianapolis is absurd. AJ Hawk, traveling in from Ohio, college football national champion, super bowl champion, Ryder cup winner. You weren't with us last night. Obviously had to travel back home. Brought the boy out here today. I think what I got to experience for the first time. We've always talked about how it all happens. Always talked about how it all happens. That is how it all. I mean, I've never seen it walk in, see it happening, and it's like, oh, this is actually.
B
Yeah.
F
Like the combined networking Situation.
A
Yeah, like, hey, who do you have? Who we. Who do we like that the situation
C
you'll never find anywhere else.
A
Yeah, the tampering thing that everybody. Because it was happening so much, and then Goodell and the NFL had to put in a legal tampering period, basically because everybody's like, hey, yeah, we're all in the same city. Couple guys are going to have some drinks, and then all of a sudden there's going to be some talking that happened. And the NFL is like, all right, let's turn it into what it is. This is where the seeds are planted for free agency frenzy. This is where the trades are playing. This where the extensions are happening. It was really fun last night to see it all. AJ I wish you were there with us. You were talked about strictly because they came out and said you're the greatest athlete that has ever been in the NFL. Combat. It could shake the hell out of A.J. you were talked about. I'll let you know. Four different teams mentioned seeing this graphic and saying, tell Hawker that they put them. They put him over. Pretty big graphic. Sunny Styles had a good day. Okay. Yeah. Sonny Styles had a good day. They're saying. Not the best, obviously, but it was pretty good. AJ Hawk, the greatest athlete to ever come through the combine. This is a special place, it's a special time, and it does feel as if the next NFL season has officially started.
F
Yeah, I feel like this is kind of the kickoff to the season. Like Connor said the other day, like, this is where if you're a terrible team this year, say you were horrible. You have hope. I think everybody has hope right now. And if you're the Seattle Seahawks, you. You want it all, like, now. It's okay. Flush that. That's gone. It's time to move on. Let's turn the page. And yeah, it's just an exciting time to be around, seeing all the coaches and GMs walk by and just see how excited they are, how much they love football. I wish I would have got a chance to see last night, the whole networking. And I know there's some, like, media members too, that jump in and try to get their little.
A
Aren't they trying to get that grubby little paws. Rap sheets, direct quote. And Gumpy and br. The truck were there when he said it. He basically said, all right, now I gotta get out of here. I'm gonna walk the streets and hopefully run in his people. So he.
D
That's amazing.
A
Like, aimlessly, just walking, just walking.
B
Old school.
A
Yeah. Am I right? Boots on the Ground trying to figure out if he can get any scoops. Now obviously Ian Rapaport knows everybody so if he sees anybody, he's getting pulled
F
and they're coming to him for scoops too though. They're saying, hey, like if you're say you're with the Texans, you're gonna go over there and find out what other teams in the division are doing and hopefully rap sheet has answers.
A
Wrap me a beer, Rapaport. Let's go buy me a beer. So. Okay.
C
I would just like that 12 miller high lives he said the night before.
A
Okay.
C
I hope I'm not out in them
A
there so I don't care. Last night when he was talking to us for a 40 minute period, he only had two Stellas.
D
Okay.
A
And we were actually watching, you know, because noted booze bag. Like this is kind of his thing. We're like wait a minute, this is his, this is his drinking super bowl only had two Stellas.
D
That might be his night off though.
A
No, it wasn't. He was, he said I gotta saving it up. Yeah. For what's about to happen.
D
Going to liquor later in the night.
A
Yeah, yeah. It was 11ish. 1030. 11 okay.
D
Yeah.
A
So early he was still.
F
He's just getting going.
A
He was with. Then he was hit.
C
That's rapid for him.
F
It's a week long of that as well.
A
Giraffaport actually just broke some news. So if you're going to hoo with the Owls, you got to be able to soar with the Eagles. He certainly does that. The NFL has informed its clubs in a memo that southern cap number for 2026 is 301.2 million up, 22 million up into the rights what the NFL is and obviously that's a good thing for players. That's obviously a good thing for the league, especially if you're selling your team like the Seattle Seahawks. Ty Schmidt, any gotten a chance to see about the combine over the last couple days that you think should be talked about or noted?
D
Yeah, I mentioned this to Tony earlier. You know, everyone is on Jacob Rodriguez's tip and deservedly so. He's an unbelievable player. Carson Sharar, linebacker from Iowa.
A
Good day.
D
Yeah. Had an unbelievable day. No one wants to talk about him because he's a white guy from a small town in Iowa. I get it.
A
We got Jack Cooper. We know.
D
Yeah, exactly. That's why I figured maybe they'd be talking about it a bit. Little bit more. But this year's a little bit. You know, as a Packers fan, it's kind of weird because there isn't that the packers don't have a first round pick. So I. I don't want to say I'm. I'm.
A
Join the club, bro.
B
Yeah, exactly.
D
I don't want to say I'm less invested because anytime you. You. I think of that, it's just like, well, we got Mike Parsons. So do I need, you know, this guy who maybe in four years, they're not going to, you know, pick up a fifth year option on him anyway? Not necessarily, but I think, you know, as a Big Ten guy, I see. How many guys from the SEC are invited? I think there's like maybe 35 to 40 more guys from the SEC got invited in the Big Ten, which is crazy because the Big Ten, everyone knows, is the king of college football.
A
On that note, what are some notable players for today's combine that we should look forward to? Tone?
C
Yeah. When you want to talk about notable players today and you want to talk about the Big Ten, they're all from the Big Ten.
D
Yeah, it figures.
C
Now, I mean, there's gonna be a lot. There's gonna be a lot of SEC guys, a lot of SEC corners today that perform very well. There's an SEC tight end that's going to perform very well today. But when you look at the names that, you know, you've probably heard in college football and who are going to perform today, and you're going to be out there and see what they do today. Obviously it starts with Caleb Downs. He's unanimous all American. Two times. We talked to guys at Bama three years ago when he was a freshman and said, this guy is hall of fame. Soon as he gets off of the bus. He's been unbelievable. He measured this morning somewhere around five' eleven and a half, six foot, which is really, really good for him. I believe he's gonna work out like all the other Ohio State guys and he's gonna be a top 10 pick. So he's someone to watch today. The freak. The freak, maybe of the combine. After Sunny Styles, of course. Tight end Kenyon Siddiq. He's been known as a freak for years and years and years.
A
Well, because his name also.
D
Yes, also.
G
Look at him.
A
He's perfect.
C
You can see it in these. He's a freak. Built like an absolute tank at tight end. He's six'3,250. He verticals four two. I don't know if he's gonna run or not, but if he does, is gonna be really fast. He's a projected first round, and then A guy from Indiana who went to Purdue, was an all Big Ten at Purdue. Dylan Thieneman who went to Oregon two times All American. He's a projected first round pick. I know a lot of draft guys think that he's going to run really well today and play really. You saw him fill the alley. He will come up and hit. He will cover. He's a do it all safety who
A
are some potential show stealers just like you. Hey, you called us something yesterday. Thank you for doing that. You made me feel smarter.
C
Yeah. Kyle Luce did really well yesterday. The linebacker, Kyle Golday, the Cincinnati linebacker did really well yesterday. The tight end that I mentioned from, from the sec, first team all is sec. He was an all American. Eli Stowers, he was a freak in Texas. Track guy, jumping guy, he's supposed to run and jump really well today. And then the safety, Emmanuel. I'm sorry, Emmanuel McNeil Warren, who out of Toledo, he just measured this morning at 6:3. DJ Daniel Jeremiah has said he could be potentially the Nick Eamon warrior of this craft, of this class. I don't know if he's going to run.
A
He was at Toledo. He's a safety and he just basically smothered everything.
D
Yeah.
C
Jumped off the. He will cover. He will come up and hit.
A
He looked like he was playing high school football.
C
Yes. Bingo. And that. And that's what you want to see from these guys against lower talent. And then Damani Jackson, he's tied the 100 yard record in high school in the 100. He's a corner out of Bama. He was in California in high school and he tied the record for 100. He's going to run today. He's supposed to run really well.
A
All right, well, we'll keep an eye out for all these guys. Great hits yesterday. Now you missed one of your play of the day.
C
I got Sonny. I got Sonny Styles.
A
What's that?
C
I got Sonny Styles.
A
Yeah. And you said could get Sonny Styles and he did 43 and a half.25 inch, right? Yeah, yeah. Quarter of an inch and they knew
C
it's his second jump. Right. Because the things were already out of the way.
A
But you also hit one, right? We also hit.
C
Yeah, we already got the bench. We already got the over 35 and a half or whatever.
A
All right, so you're currently one and one. We got two more coming and hopefully you'll hit those. If you were able to bet on those, we hope you will be able to profit. If you're betting on the combine, you should think about maybe Looking in the mirror. But also, it does make. Makes it a lot more exciting. Speaking of exciting, if you turn on the combine over the next 30 hours. Okay. Yeah.
B
At least 30.
A
I don't know how many. It seems like it's forever. A man who will be giving color commentary is a color commentator for the Los Angeles Chargers. He's a podcast host in Move the Sticks, and he's a man who's watched film on every player that has to come through the combine because he has to sound like he knows who they are whenever he is talking about the biggest job interview on earth for them on NFL Network. Ladies and gentlemen, friend of the program, Dana Jeremiah. Dj. Oh, we're there.
F
Go this way.
A
This was the right.
D
That's a guy who's got a clue.
G
He's a pro.
B
Classic handshake.
D
Guy who's got a clue.
B
Respect.
A
Yeah, that's yours if you want to. Yep. Okay. You know what you're doing. That was a good play. Yeah, that was the right play. Some people don't know if they're supposed to come to me because I think the natural reaction is this guy's saying a lot of good things about me. Just introduce me. I'm going go talk to him. But the seat's right next to me, so if you my way, then you're going to have to come back. Then people go from me and they go, I got to go see the boys. They go this way. And then it's the worst outcome because then they're going there, there, then here. What you did there with a little bit of a brisk pace.
C
Yeah.
H
I was respectful of your time. I mean, that's.
A
Yeah, but that was, I think the scouts would say, efficient.
B
Yeah. Hawk in 2006.
A
Yeah. 99 minutes.
H
A lot of that.
A
Did you see that graphic? What did this thing mean? Because we just. I don't know. I was pretty boozed up when I saw it, and everybody else saw it the same way. He's the greatest athlete in the history.
H
So phenomenal. I bet his numbing.
A
What is this number?
C
Really good.
H
So this is the production score. So I believe that takes into account, you know, numbers on the field in terms of the stats, and I think that also incorporates the athleticism. This guy was a bad dude, man.
A
Yeah, he still is, by the way. He just can't walk because he has no cartilage in his knees because of the 99 there. His boy Hendricks, how old is he?
F
13.
A
13. Size 11 shoe. He could beat his dad's ass right now because of the Cartilage. But I tried to.
F
He knows that.
H
Yeah. Do you do that, by the way, with your kids in sports where you ask the parents, what size shoe does a kid wear?
F
I never do.
B
I always.
F
I try to jam their. I try to make their feet smaller, actually, because I think that's the worst thing. You see, my boy, 6th grade, wears a size 19 shoe.
H
I can remember being at Little League and the parents like, johnny's gonna play major League baseball and he's gonna be there. And I'm like, look at his feet. No, he's not. Enjoy this. Enjoy this period of life. Everybody else is gonna blow right past this feet.
A
Yeah, that's like dogs, you know, with. That's how you kind of see what the puppies like. Oh, those things are horse. Okay, so we're still got a lot of growing to do. I think his kid's gonna be gigantic, from my understanding. And he doesn't do any dancing, he just plays ball.
D
That's right.
A
He is a hawk, which we respect and appreciate. But there was a nice reminder to him about who his dad was from all of us because of that 99 score. We don't know who put that together. We would like that to run every single year, please, so we can all be reminded whenever we are burying this guy that we are dealing with an absolute monster. Speaking of monsters.
H
Yes, sir.
A
Yesterday, obviously, the linebackers put on a show. I didn't know if, because the cyclicality of football, if we were going to get a little slower, Right. Because it's becoming a little bit more ground and pound. Instead, what happened is we got bigger for sure. So we can fill gaps and we can go ahead and take on 12 personnel and 13 personnel, but they're somehow faster as well. Was this expected coming in that yesterday was going to happen the way that it happened? D.J.
H
yeah. I was told that all three of those top guys, in terms of the two Ohio Staters with recent Styles and then with Bailey, all those guys were capable of going in the four fours. I think Bailey ended up four, five flat. He was right there, which was crazy numbers. So it was expected these guys were all going to test like freaks. And when you, when you watch them on tape, it shows up like there's, there's some times where you see guys, they're just testers. They're not football players. And they, you know, they're, they're set for this. These guys. Like, you can watch styles in this building. When you guys were, were here in, in that Big Ten championship game, he was the Best player on the field. He was sideline to sideline, making all kinds of.
A
Mendoza's playing football well, you know. Yeah, I know. How you media people talking about Fernando Mendoza.
H
He's my first overall player.
A
Yeah, it better be. Yeah. Dan Orlovsky yesterday starting Dance around with the.
H
Help me with this.
A
Okay.
H
Orlovsky, he knew I was coming on, so he just texted me.
C
Of course he did.
H
The nicest text. I, you know, I love you. You're doing great. I'm so proud of you. And I think it's because he. He doesn't want me to get after him for.
A
I FaceTimed him yesterday.
C
He deserves it.
A
We. The combine's awesome.
H
Yeah.
A
If you're a football person and an NFL person and we get the access that we are currently getting, like, it is incredible because we're just walking around here after the show and it's like you're shaking hands. Oh, General manager, owner of this team. Oh, my God. Good to see you. And we're learning that these people watch our show.
H
Yeah.
A
And I'm learning everybody does. See, I see. We don't know that, though, because we are in Indianapolis in a Thunderdome with no crowd, and we go home and then we come back and then it's just kind of like we're kind of talking to ourselves sometimes. So then when we get here and it's like the people that are making a lot of decisions are like, hey, we watch, or whatever. I'm thinking to myself, this guy would never go out of his way to, like, tell us that he's watching. So this is cool that this is happening. Thank you so much. Don't watch our show. You gotta keep the league good. You know, that whole give and take. By the time I finally get out of this place back to where the office is basically set up downtown, I turn TVs on and it's Ty Simpson's better than Fernando Mendoza. And I see Dom Orlovsky like this, okay. And I FaceTimed him immediately. He was on a date with his wife, who we love Tiffany, big fans of. And I just relentlessly started telling him that I'm sick of his shit.
D
As you should.
A
Like, he is clearly right now doing this all to just draw up shit, you know? And like, he said, well, I only watch first eight games. I was like, well, then don't talk. Like, if you only watched this amount of games, you didn't watch the biggest games of Fernando Mendoza's career to see how he performed. Did you watch? Just red zone, third down and fourth down the biggest moments, the money downs and see how he did. I just watched first eight games. When I watch the rest of the games, I'll have a different take. I clearly said that in the thing. I'm like, well, I want to let you know I saw a lower third that you said. And then Mel Kiper got a lot of people. Yes, yes. Oh yeah, it's very important. It's very important. And then Mel Kuiper Jr. Whenever we were at the College Football Playoff, I'm literally projecting. Fernando Mendoza is generational. They put up a lower third. Mel Kuiper Jr. Is top five and it's Dante Moore is the number one overall quarterback. I'm like, what? These people not see him? What do you, what do you think? Because I told Danny that no ball. I said, dan, I just read an article. You watch seven to nine NFL games every single Monday morning before you go live. You're not watching any Indiana games. That's what I'm learning throughout this nc. Do you think people just don't know him? You think like people are learning about him through this process? Like how do you think people view him now versus maybe like a month from now after they kind of see more from him? How do you think that kind of narrative starts or builds?
H
Well, I think with Fernando it was just like a steady ramp up and it was as the competition got better, you saw more form. I use the analogy of more like Illinois.
A
He had one good throw. Furlovsky told me at dinner, drinking a red wine with stupid jacket.
H
The way I look at it is when we were all learning how to drive. And it's like they don't just throw you on the freeway. Like Indiana didn't have to put him on the freeway for those, for the first part of the season it was like we're just going to drive around the parking lot at school, then we'll go out in the neighborhoods. And it was like, okay, here come the big dogs on the schedule. We got to open this thing up, make big throws. And he did that throughout the whole entire process and with him also. I know a lot of college quarterbacks now because it's so RPO based. We were talking about this in the restaurant the other day. But to me, if you can pull out all the third and seven plus throws where RPOs are non existent because they know you're throwing the ball, everybody in the stadium knows you're throwing the ball. Red zone where this, where the space is really condensed.
A
Number one in the league.
H
Late, late, late game moments and then big games. I'm like, check, check, check, check, check. He went through all those things. So look, Dan. I think Dan. So I think once Dan gets to the end of the process. I'm not. I mean, he needs to go through his process, but I think once he gets to those games before he starts
A
talking, don't you think he should go through his process before? That was my big takeaway.
D
You knew what he was doing.
A
Like Dan. Yeah, it was. The caveat was first eight games, I clearly said that. I'm like, Dan, you know what you're doing.
C
He played another eight games.
A
Yeah. And I don't like it yet. He had an NFL season. He had the entire thing. Dan's like, that is my process. To your point, it'll be a great
H
discussion once he gets through the whole process. And I think he'll. He'll come up on him as he does that.
A
Okay, so do you. Last question about Fernando before the boys have questions about everything else going on. I assume there's going to be more freaks today. Can't wait to hear about that entire thing. Tone gave us a couple of names that we need to look for, including out of Toledo, which is crazy to think about at this stage of it all. Fernando, do you have comps? Like, what are your comps for Fernando Mendoza? Because for me, it's hard to really pin anything because he has this nerdiness about him where he could have got into Yale and all this stuff. So you kind of think like, does he have photographic memory as well? Because it feels like he is incredibly intelligent. So is it like, does he have some Andrew Luckin, the nerd mindset of him? Has beers with the boys, though. So is he one of the nerds that hangs out with the boys? I think there's a list of a couple quarterbacks that have done that in the past. And then he has the intangibles he can run. He's 6, 5, and he won a national championship for the Indiana Hoosiers. So it's like, what, is there a comp for you? And how do you kind of describe or project what he's going to be in the NFL?
H
Yeah, there's not a perfect comp. Some guys, there's like a name that pops right into your head, but in terms of like, the. The size, a little bit bigger version. Matt Ryan was like, you get. You get the name Matty Ice because of what you do late in games and how competitive and tough he was. So I see that aspect of it. I was around Philip Rivers Calling the Charger games. Philip has got so much juice and energy when you're around him. Like, he's like, hyper, but, like, in a good way, loves ball and is incredibly smart, can talk it inside and out. So I see some elements of that. And Phillips obviously was a big man.
A
And Philip doesn't swear, feels like Fernando, but still talks shit. Like, does his thing.
H
Yeah. And then kind of the. That got a little hot in here. And then the quirkiness. Luck has, you know, some of that quirkiness, which is endearing to me when, especially when you're winning games, when with all this stuff people have asked, like, personality wise, how is he going to be in a locker room?
A
This is your answer. But beers with the boys.
H
Yeah.
A
Well, my answer changed for me. He has beers with the boys. Like, he is out with the O line, sinking them, having beers. Like, I think that is for me. And you do this a lot more than I do. I just look at things, hear things, and then form an opinion on things. Am I 100% right? Absolutely not. I'm sure I've been 100% wrong on a lot of things, but, like, whenever it comes to team and locker room and chemistry, I feel like I have a pretty good read and feel on that type of thing. The fact when I learned that he gets beers with the boys, that answered every single other question about, like, can this nerd fit in in a locker room? Because you talk about endearing him being a nerd. The boys will be like, if he's good, if he has success, he'll do that. But then if he shows up at a D line, like dinner and has some drinks with them or whatever, it's like, like he's already proven that he would do that. It's like, I love the guy. He's a late bloomer. Obviously, I think he's only gotten better as he's gone, but he talked about his leadership only getting better as he went on too. It's. I think he's generational. And I got people on the Internet because Dan Orlovsky's at the world who did not watch this guy play football, saying, what are we, Indiana's quarterback? I don't know. It's like, I think he's generation. And they're like, you use the term generational very loosely. I got attacked for the type of human I am for saying generational. It's like, like, I think this fucking guy is going to be a top three quarterback in the NFL. That is what I think now. A lot of things have to happen around him, which Brock Bowers, Ashton Genti, Tom Brady, potentially in on conversations a little bit more allegedly from sources that I'm hearing. I think they have a chance to be good over there with him. I think he has a chance to do very good things with the Raiders.
H
I do, too. To me, though, with the building philosophy of the Raiders, with free agency and with the draft, like, you go into the draft room and you've got the draft board up and on the first, you know, the left side is all the offensive players. Right side, you might have all the defensive players. Like, I think I would go in there and just all the magnets and I probably don't use magnets anymore dating myself. I take all those defensive magnets and just swipe them off the board. Just taking offensive players. We're going to get go pay Tyler Linderbaum whatever the heck he wants in free agency. We get Colt Miller coming back. The left tackle's the hardest piece and they actually have that piece. Then we're going to go out and we're going to draft somebody on day two that's going to plug and play like you can flip this offensive line. The Patriots, I know it didn't end the way they wanted. They got to the Super bowl with 4/5 of a new offensive line. The Bears rebuilt the entire interior of that offensive line and made life easier. So it can happen a lot faster than you think. Now, if they. If the. If the Raiders next year are, they go, you know, 5 and 12, but Mendoza is getting better and better and they've got the offense in place. You'd be feeling really good for a 5 and 12.
A
That'd be Drake May New England, basically, year one. Even though we got a whole new coach him the entire rookie year, Drake was like, oh, yeah. I mean, we're not winning games right now, but Drake is doing things see it that we're liking.
H
Absolutely.
A
It's just like kind of shocked down there in New Orleans last four weeks, they kind of go on a little bit of run. Jackson Dart, I think had some moments where people were like, okay, he's having it. I think that is good expectation. Even though everybody's going to want them to win right now. AJ has a question about anything. DJ.
F
Yeah, DJ today, DB's tight ends will be on the field, I guess. Is there any diamonds in the rough that you think are going to jump off the, you know, jump off the screen that people may not know a whole lot about?
H
Well, two safeties that I love that I have is like top 25 players in the draft. McNeil Warren from Toledo, which is somehow turned into this DB factory where they're putting out DBs. And he was, he played last year like 2, 212, 214. He came in here at 201, which tells me he's cutting to run. And he's six, three and a half. He's long, he's. He is a great player. I think he's my 15th overall player. He should test well. Thienaman from Oregon and you guys have seen and you go back and watch his Purdue stuff. He's playing in the middle of the field. Six picks as a freshman, all over the place. Oregon drops him down. He can play in the nickel. Like he's gonna, he's gonna test really well as well. So in, you know, last year, I think the league screwed up. When you have Emon Worre, who I thought was a top 15 player in the draft and he got pushed down, I don't think they let that happen again. I think we're going to see three safeties go in the first round.
A
Seattle was pumped that day. Let him build a chip on that guy's shoulder. I mean, he was outrageous. What, he broke his ankle super bowl week.
D
Yeah.
A
And then he goes and just absolutely dominates their special group over there. Go ahead, con man.
B
Yeah. DJ Brett Veach mentioned earlier in the week just about the types of players that are in the combine now and just kind of the players that are coming out of college, there's just more guys staying. Have you noticed that in your research that it's just become a much older kind of veteran crop of players going into the draft? And how many kind of first round players are there? Because I remember last year the conversation being like, hey, there's probably 15 first round guys, but it's a deep draft. Is it different this year as opposed to last year?
H
I think that's pretty similar in terms of just the number of those guys. And then it is another good group from that, you know, 16, 17 to 15, 55, like that's a, that's a sweet spot of this draft. But we have more 24 and 25 year olds than we've ever seen.
A
Do you like that or hate that?
H
I like it. I think it's just proof of concept. Like, I've seen more of them. It makes the evaluation a little bit easier when you've seen them do it longer. And you know, look everybody like, what about the second contract? I'm like, dude, four or five years minds will be an Eternity from now.
A
Yeah.
H
Like remember Peyton Wilson might be dead. Peyton Wilson, a linebacker from NC State. He was older, had some injuries and like I don't know how long he's going to play. I'm like, well, I don't see Pittsburgh too disappointed with what they're getting out of that guy.
G
Yeah.
H
Craig Woodson last year was a little bit older. Plug and play, ready to go. There's no. We're not sitting here waiting for two years for this guy to be on the field. Like he's up and running.
A
Yeah. And if you play eight years, I think that would be. Yeah, that's a hell of a career. And I'm saying that strictly because I played eight years and it felt like an eternity.
C
What was Butsy? Eight, nine, nine.
G
I think.
A
Yeah. It's like that's a great career. So if 25 to 33, 34 is all you have. What if you go 25 to 36, like that's 10 years isn't good enough. Especially with modern signs, which is great by the way. I would recommend it not to these athletes because they are testing stuff, but after they retire they should certainly get into the real modern science. You should think about it too. You look good, by the way.
H
Oh, you guys are nice.
A
Have you been on Zen picking? Is that a Zompic or no?
H
No, no. Yeah, it did make. I do have muscle disappearing, but it's
A
not because of lack of effort mostly. Ty has a question for you dj.
D
Kind of going off Connor's point, you mentioned on your podcast how you, you haven't heard anyone basically saying, hey, we really want to move up for this guy. As we get closer to the draft, you think there percentage chance that a lot of teams are going to be looking to kind of trade down just because there might not be or there might only be like a handful of those Surefire, hey, we know this guy is a top 10 pick or whatever.
H
Yeah, I mean it's, it's, you know, usually the targets trade targets that you look at quarterbacks. I don't really see that happening in this draft. So you don't really have that movement. And then you also look at edge rushers which we have abundance of them. So it's like, well I like this guy more but man, this guy's not a bad fallback plan and I keep my picks so then you're not going to move up there and then it's a big drop off at a position of need. So the only thing I could maybe keep an eye on here is if the tackles. If you start to see some separation and there's a gap between whether it's the second tackle and the third tackle, and you're an. You're a team in free agency that doesn't accomplish what you need. That. That's the scenario I could see, maybe that you see a little bit of movement.
A
How'd you feel up there getting back in the saddle yesterday?
H
It's fun, man. I got the. It's the best view. You sit up there and watch everything. So you smoke in there?
A
Smoke weed, drink?
H
Oh, no.
A
That's how I saw that the governor got it passed yesterday. I asked him about it. So if you wanted to smoke it
C
and you live in California, I'm probably
H
more likely to drink a kombucha and try and keep my stomach. It's nice and steady up there.
A
Okay. So speaking of stomach and drinking stuff, last night's my first ever combine night. Yeah, ever. Like, first really ever.
C
He did it.
A
First time I ever did combine was last night. Like, actually. Actually did it, you know?
H
What time did you shut it down?
A
I don't want to say the number four.
E
Late.
H
Oh, my goodness.
B
So did you.
H
Did you get a gold medal for that?
A
Well, actually, the boys would be pretty proud of the way I performed last night, I think, because I'm an old man now at this point, and thank you for noticing. You didn't say pretty cool. It looks really big.
H
I've never been that close to a gold medal.
A
It's very heavy.
H
It looks very heavy.
A
It's kind of inconvenient, actually. But I will say we did it. Shout out to Jackie is. This guy's a beauty.
H
Is he?
A
Yeah, he's here.
B
Yeah, he's right there.
F
Might be on camera.
H
Oh, there he is.
B
Oh, Chef,
F
he got him.
A
Yeah, Chef, he's like, got any news? Got any nose? Gotta know any news. And he knows. How about what they're doing to the guys up in Canada? It seems like they don't like it. Yeah.
C
Oh, look at these boys.
A
Marks. Bunch of Mark as that should be American hero. Hey, Jack. That's what you do, Jackie. That's what you do. Cannot wait to talk to him. Dj it's awesome talking to you as well. Tone has a question for you, brother. Yeah, I do.
C
Okay.
H
There's really another question. I thought I was getting ready to
A
get my butt kicked right out of here. We're giving him the whole hour. Next hour, actually. Yeah.
C
So there's always the upside verse production coming out of the college thing that we always talk About. And then you do what Jacob Rodriguez does yesterday. He has all the production and then he kind of put a stamp on it with all the athletic scores yesterday. Is there a reason I don't. Can't remember if he's in your top 50 or not, but is there like, after he checks all those boxes yesterday with all the athletic scores, is there a chance that he potentially gets into the first.
H
I. Well, he's. He was not in my top 50. He was just on the edge. He will be in my top 50 going forward. I mean, there was.
F
His three cone was off the charts.
H
It was three cone and the best short.
F
That's all I care about is change of direction.
B
Right.
H
And you see that and like, if you're into like 13 force fumbles in your career and yeah, four picks this year. So, yeah, that was the only thing was like, okay. You know, athletically. Well, golly, like, he was. He was. He was solid at the Senior Bowl. Good, solid week. Made some plays. And then this. It's like. Any more questions? No, like, they're.
A
Do you hit the town?
H
By the way, I got a great text.
A
Do you hit the town? Yeah.
H
Do you hit the town? I don't. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I've had a sip.
A
That's amazing.
H
Yeah. I've had one sip of alcohol my entire life.
F
What?
B
When was it?
H
After my last two a day. After my last two a day at App State and my lineman, they said, we're going out. This is our last two a day. We're all seniors. And I took this much of a sip and I said, this tastes like cat urine.
A
And then I was like, that's a part of it.
H
I don't know who sponsors. I don't know who sponsors what kind of alcohol beer. It was. It was a Miller Light.
F
Oh, okay.
A
Cat piss, huh?
D
It's an acquired taste.
I
And I.
H
If they're.
I
I have nothing.
H
I just probably.
A
You would say you've had more cat piss than you've had alcohol.
B
Beer then.
C
Yeah, fair. Fair. Wait, what was the text you got on Jacob Rodriguez?
H
Oh, the text. The text on Rodriguez was. Here it is. You know, 15 teams are now targeting Jacob Rodriguez in the second round, only for. Only for the Lions to take him at 17.
C
It's like.
H
It's like the most. Just like football player has taken.
A
I literally, I was about to say talking about you going out last night is strictly because like we talked about. I did. Three different teams that I did not tell or lead into conversation were like Jacob Rodriguez is a guy that would look great in our universe.
H
Yeah.
A
You know, and they mentioned him doing the Thriller. Came down.
D
Yeah.
A
He's the only guy that hits crossbar on game day. Like, we had quarterbacks do it. We had coaches.
J
Coaches.
A
We had. We've had everybody kind of do it. He steps up and hits it. Quarterback coming into college.
H
Yes.
A
So. And then he's a turnover machine. I heard you say $250,000 for children of fallen, fallen patriots. Patriots. He did right there, obviously. His wife. Army Blackhawk helicopter pilot. I mean, he is. He's everything you're looking for. And I liked your line about him running a 40 where he might punch a ball out while he's on. It was a good bar out of you, Daniel. Jarrett. Jeremiah, we appreciate the fact that we're going to be spending the weekend with you and Rich up there. You guys continue to crush it. We appreciate the hell out of you.
H
Thank you. I appreciate you guys, man. Oh, by the way, happy Rap Sheet anniversary. One year ago today, we sat here and talked about his fight. If you guys.
A
Yeah, we wanted to have a face stare down right here.
C
Yeah.
A
Oh, can you make that happen?
B
Schultze's been roaming around the city looking for him. I guess.
A
Rap.
F
She's just not in the building yelling his name.
A
I heard, you know what I'm gonna be. I did not see. See, Schultze Rap came in, had two Stellas, told 100 stories, and then he said he was gonna go pound pavement and try to hope to run into some people and hopefully get some leverage information out of them as their loose lips are sinking ships out there. So we appreciate the effort. We appreciate the hell out of the combine, and thank you so much for everything that you do for the league, Dan. We. We genuinely appreciate that.
H
No, I appreciate all you guys, man. It's always fun.
A
If you're not drinking or smoking at all, though, we need a 6 bank. Like, what are we, you know, like, if we're not beating the hell out of our body.
D
Yeah.
A
We need you next year. Jacked, strapped.
H
Oh, oh.
B
Start taking.
F
Put on, like, 50 pounds of muscle. We would be. Showed up just so jacked.
A
Why don't you just eat the Subway Protein Power Punch?
H
That's. That's the jam.
A
Yeah. He actually got more meat per capita in the protein than the entire footlong long.
H
Really?
A
Yes.
C
Something to think about.
H
Yeah, something to think about.
B
It's like Rhode Island.
H
Yeah. I'm done watching tape on all these guys for the most part now.
F
How many starting next year already?
A
Probably.
H
Well, no, you know, I'll do the non com, I guess, probably like 60, 70 more. But those are. I can get through those quick.
A
You're the man.
H
Thanks, buddy. See you guys. Thanks.
A
Headset's on. Yep.
F
It happens. Got me a couple times in Super Bowl.
A
People are going to think you're boozing.
F
Good to see you, man. Thank you.
B
All right. Dj.
A
That's incredible. That's an incredible thing. Anytime I meet anybody that's ever done
B
that, what during catfish.
A
Valid that as well. I mean, I don't know how many hours, but like, just never tried it. Never did. There's multiple people in my life now at this stage are like, I've never even tried it. It's like I never once just said, good for you, first of all. And you don't have to feel how we feel right now. Ever. In your entire life. Who said that?
C
Orlovsky?
A
Yeah.
B
Shut up.
G
We're done with it.
A
Shut up. An. Hey, Dan. He looks super cool. He had this jacket on. He was drinking red wine. He had the phone on the thing. Him and his wife were doing a little date. You know, he's doing the.
G
Yeah.
D
Being a Somalia.
A
Yeah, sure. I'm like, I'm done with it.
F
Because at least he answered.
C
We're two weeks away from him tweeting, man, this Mendoza film. And we gotta pretend like we gotta know which way he's.
A
Or like if you're joining us, ladies and gentlemen. Hey, what up, field? You look amazing. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is an Emmy award winning host.
E
Host.
A
A man that as soon as he had the opportunity to take a picture with Jack Hughes, he certainly did that. A patriot. A stud. A stallion, ladies and gentlemen.
D
His ear off over there.
A
Hey, ladies and gentlemen. Peter, ladies and gentlemen. Yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, ESPN legend. He's up here. Jack Hughes. Go that way. Go that way. Yes. Yeah.
G
Look at that.
B
What's up?
A
Strangle man.
C
Yeah, I saw those.
A
Yes. Yes, yes. New Jersey double bro. Like painters over by you guys. Headset.
F
Those pants are sweet.
A
Are those Abercrombie pictures? Abercoming pants. No.
F
Painting the Sistine Chapel.
A
Aloe shoes. I've never seen that.
I
Breaking them out.
E
Out.
F
I didn't know they had them.
I
Yep.
A
Yeah, me neither.
F
I mean, it might be the straight.
C
These are cool.
F
Those are straight shoes. Those are signature line.
I
This is my whole look, guys.
A
Fantastic combine. Casual.
E
Jack.
G
Yeah.
E
Guys, we have a superstar amidst us.
A
Yeah. Not just a superstar. Yeah. Global phenomenon. I would say. Phenomenon. Yeah. And his teeth are still the way they are. And I Was like, cool. You're doing that forever. He's like, like, I haven't even had time to get to a dentist. I. Yeah, we go, we win, we come back, we party. We White House. We here, we.
C
Three games and four nights.
A
Two games last night on. Played last night. Yeah. Against the Penguins. And who won that game, Jeff? Hey. The Pens. Okay.
B
On a back to back.
A
I would expect a lot of the teams that have. Any of the boys from the America team, probably not going to win for a week or so.
B
Give a little.
A
Give a little time to get back into the flow. Yeah. Because they are legends in the hockey world. They can't handle their alcohol.
I
He's got a little like, like Chalamet Tai Domi thing going on. Like, it's like this like boyhood star and then also badass. Like it's gonna knock you out. Like, there's a lot going on.
A
Comes from a hockey family, you know, so it's like literally in his blood. He was drafted number one overall in 2019 as an 18 year old. He's in year seven right now, and he's 24 years old. I mean, he is. He was the great American hope, I believe, whenever he was drafted number one overall. And here we are. There's been a lot of this, I think, throughout the entire run, especially when you're number one and you're not like six foot four or whatever. And he's like a little bit undersized guy. And then for him to have that moment. Oh, beautiful thing. They picked the right group.
D
Yeah, they did.
A
The hockey gods picked the right group to go ahead and do that.
I
I told him, I said, you know, I'm of a certain age where I wasn't alive for 1980. My son is 9 years old. We sat on the couch. There's very few, like, sports moments I'll always remember. His goal will be a story my
G
son and I will talk about for
I
the rest of our lives.
A
And also Megan Keller, who will be like her dangles little tips. Go nasty. Let's move. Let's talk ball. No, no. It's hard not to get. It's hard. I just. I.
I
It's an American hero.
A
I had the gold medal on while I was just walking around sick, cuz he just kind of tossed it.
C
Wait, when did that leave?
A
Well, I wanted him and they were getting pictures. Such a dork. Like on Peekaboo Street. Like, I want to let you know, we commentated it as if you were the biggest. So just know that the, the. The commentary did match the Action. Okay, let's talk ball. I don't know if you've heard yet. I've said this a lot because I think it is a big deal. We've always chatted about how Indianapolis and Combine are. The planting of the seeds of free agency, frenzy of trades, of everything, what everybody's going to do in these gatherings that are taking place. Last night was my first time ever doing it. Like, kind of bouncing around, talking to people. What a special place. I assume you do a lot of that, obviously with connections, but everybody is here. How many things are actually getting done? Or is this just all seed planting seeds?
I
And sometimes you get to trade.
F
Like.
I
Like the other night, we had a trade between the jets and the Titans, and it happened here. Like, it happened here. It's where. Okay, left our set, went and made a trade with the New York Jets. But it's because it's the only time in the NFL calendar where everybody is in the same exact place.
A
Except for your friends McVeigh and Liam Cohen.
I
Those guys don't show up. They're good.
A
Hey, we need you guys back out here. Hey, we need you guys back out here.
E
Talking to Sean.
I
He's asking me. So what'd you get into last night? Like, you don't get that? You don't get to.
A
No, no, you don't do that. You don't. Sean, we need you back out here, man.
I
You don't get to do all that.
C
He's got fomo.
I
That's it. But also, it's this informal deal where the agents are all here also, which is a different deal with it, where, of course, we're all excited to see the coaches and the general managers and do the media stuff. But the calendar for these agents. I just saw Tommy DeVito's agent, Sean Stellato.
B
He wanted to go.
I
He told me he had 24 meetings with teams in one day.
A
Yeah, he did. That's low for him, actually. Normally you'd see at a 30, 40. That's it, 42 teams.
I
But if you take that, he's one agent with four clients. Now you take about all the different agents here, and they've got a. Now they can't make deals. But what they will do is they will say, what's the marketplace? What are we looking at for our clients? And this is the only time, all calendar year, they get in person interaction. So, yes, there's that, and then there's just hanging out and fun and drinking and enjoying the fact that everyone's away from home, everyone's in the same place. And it's an annual tradition to get together and let loose a little bit.
A
It was awesome. I should have been doing this. How long are we doing? Eight years. I should have doing this.
I
Gotta pace yourself, though.
A
Kind of feels like I've kind of been doing this, made up for it in our city. I feel like I've been messing this up and missed a lot of opportunities. It was cool last night just to see everybody, you know, because we obviously follow along the season, but getting a chance to chat with them and then we would have said something in the show and they'll mention it. Like, you remember when you said whatever, and I'm like, ah, I feel terrible about it, but everybody's like, nah, you. That was. You have to say what you have to say. It was like really cool to kind of do all that. Go ahead, A.J.
F
what about Max Crosby? A.J. brown, any news you hear when you were pounding the streets last night?
A
Yeah. The tone of Howie is what you said the other day.
I
Well, it's funny because at the, at the trade deadline, Howie Roseman told everyone, no, like, we're not trading A.J.
A
brown. And then when we can't trust anything
F
that anyone says though, right?
I
Well, that is a good point also. And then you go to this media availability and what he said was, of course, like, you know, I'll. I'll always listen. And I said, AJ Brown's Twitter handle is always open. Howie Roseman always listen. He's always listening. But I would also add this. He is not on the block by any means. They are not proactively trading AJ Brown. They are not shopping AJ Brown, but he will always have his phone line open. The issue is for the Eagles. If they trade him before June 1, it costs them $40 million in dead cap money. They trade him after June 1, it gets a lot less financially prohibitive. So that kind of makes this little window here. And he got traded draft day a couple years back from the Titans to the Eagles. It makes it a bit more of a hurdle. They interviewed 17 different offensive coordinators and they hired a 32 year old who has never called a play. And I am told that Sean Manion walked in there and had an entire presentation that won the day. And it basically was, here are cut ups of how my offense would work with your personnel. And A.J. brown was strictly a part of that.
A
Yeah, they got a lot of weapons over there. Everybody's got to eat and they paid everybody as if they're supposed to eat. And then all of a sudden you have success running the ball. You Got two ones at wide receiver. And then you can see how people get a little bit antsy. The New England Patriots aren't. Fans aren't going to love what you just said right there because they thought maybe Vrabel and A.J. brown were going to be back. So we'll just say if somebody gives up the farm, Howie, always open for the conversation, always pick up the phone. Got it. But instead, there is a mindset that we're going to be able to get A.J. brown used the way he should be, and he'll be happy to be an Eagle.
I
That's the hope.
A
Okay. Sick. Go ahead, Connor.
B
Yeah, Shreks. It does kind of bum New England out for sure. But also knowing Mike Vrabel and Drake Mayer there, it doesn't really matter. I want to ask. Ask you about a guy that I don't think anybody knows really much about, and that's the Arizona Cardinals in the floor. We saw him walking around the other day. He's got really cool hair. I don't know if he's got his brother's eyebrows just yet. But what do you think about the Cardinals? What should our expectations be for them going forward? Who's even playing quarterback? Like, should we just assume this is a punted year? Like, truly, are they trading Kyler? Like, what should the expectations be on the outside looking in for the card?
I
Yeah, look, so they come in there and Kyler was not drafted by Monte Austin Fort. And Kyler, this would be his third head coach. And it seems like this might be a financial situation as well, where it takes them in a lot different financial situation if the first three days they get rid of him in the NFL New Year. So that's like March 11th, 12th, 13th. They save themselves a lot of money and everyone starts anew. That said, I did have dinner with Mike LaFleur last night with his cool haircut.
G
New spot.
I
New spot.
B
Dean.
I
Do you know, Dean, I heard it's
A
in a hotel, right?
I
It's in the jw and I've never been.
D
It used to be shoes.
I
No, that was the Weston.
C
It was the Italian place before.
I
Yes, yes.
A
And see, this is the problem, though. This is what we're talking about. We never do this. I would never know. And stop telling people about Cafe Pat a Chew. And it's not chow, it's Pat a Chew, brother. Shut up. Have I been?
I
Because there's like four of them, right?
A
Yeah, there's a lady that owns that and also, like four other restaurants. This lady has a monopoly on great food, bro. How good is it unbelievable. Patchou is very good.
I
So Patichu, I said on a social media clip that that's where everyone. That's the real.
A
Here we go again.
I
And I'm not trying to promote it but then I literally. Peter King, Howie Roseman, Kevin Demo like the list of people.
A
Peter King, wow.
I
Saying what are you doing?
A
How do you do that? Did he write you a letter? Typewriter.
I
But it's like, it's like that's, that's something that's a secret we don't want out there.
A
I'm sorry, I don't know if he's here. So he could probably just go ahead and move on. Ty has last question for you here. Shrigs.
D
What about Malik? Malik Willis. Everything we've heard is like all of a sudden he's kind of the bell of the ball when it comes to free agent quarterbacks. And you know I guess everyone's given Aaron Glenn for falling asleep yesterday but maybe it's because he already knows that he's going to go get a guy like Malik Willis. So quarterback doesn't matter like what? Where is he going to end up and is he right now the most sought after free agent quarterback?
I
The perfect storm for a player is what Malik Willis has right now in that there is a supply and demand issue in the NFL and he, he is the premier free agent quarterback to be where you can just sign him straight up, no trade, you could just make the best offer and he can entertain it. He also has two different teams with really strong connections. The Miami Dolphins, the GM from the packers and the defensive coordinator from the packers is new the head coach. And then In Arizona Mike LaFleur is the head coach. Where did Willie Quillis just revigorate his career with Matt LaFleur in Green Bay. So there are two teams that might be quarterback hungry and you have a draft pick situation where Mendoza is the number one pick pick and it's not exactly a two horse race there where there's anyone else in the Mendoza.
D
Oh really?
A
Or lobster. We're not doing it. We're not, we're not getting into this. We only have like a minute left and you know tv. No, don't be sorry. We are sorry.
I
I'm going on talking about Dean seek food and steak and I apologize. I should be talking football. It's my bad.
A
No, no, no. Wrong Shout out. We should be talking about Dean's because we just learned this place existed. Never knew me neither. Shout out to that the No, I would have enough to time dimes. Dimes is just going to go to the Colts?
I
I think so.
A
Sounds you said Malik Williams by far the number one free agent like no, no.
I
And they don't have a first round pick so it's not like they're going
A
to be this year.
E
Next year.
B
Vikings.
A
Aaron Vikings don't think so. What's Aaron Rogers doing? I don't know. I don't know.
I
Vikings real quick 2 names Kyler Gino Smith if he is available.
A
Cuz Gino is what I was told that she Schrager. We're back for hour two with Jack Hughes.

C
Okay.
A
We don't have the knowledge on anything else that we have on football. So we talk about football more than maybe anything else. Anything else and maybe more than anybody else other than full NFL shows. Sure. When you're at the combine, you can't help but get excited about the future of the NFL. In the future of football looks like it's going to be bigger, stronger, faster than it's ever been. Up and to the right seemingly continue. Oh yeah, the salary cap next year up 20 some million. It's up over 300 million. Everything in football, very, very healthy. But if it's sports and it's happening, it's United States of America, we are certainly going to celebrate the hell out of it. We think sports are the greatest thing. We think sports are unifying. We think sports are beautiful. We think sports exemplify everything that's good out there when it comes to humans. We talk about grit, we talk about buying, we talk about discipline. We talk about working when you're tired. You're talking about working your ass off and losing and understanding that, oh, just because I worked hard and I lost doesn't mean I should stop. I got to get back on that horse and go again. Sports are the greatest thing on earth, and whenever an entire country can buy it, well, I don't know what the percentage is. I don't know what the percentage is. People I know more than half. Okay. The people I know 100% of the country can buy in and rally around a team. And a team can do something magical that the entire country and the sports world will talk about for the rest of time. It's a beautiful thing. So in this hour, we'll be talking to a guy who's going to go down in the annals of sports celebration in Jack Hughes here in a matter of moments. And I'll tell you, the shirt's awesome. The gold medal is. Is filthy. There's some silky mitts all around, and I think he's a beauty. I do believe they picked the right one from the Hughes hockey family. His brother, obviously on the team, Quinn, and then his other brother Luke, I believe is also potentially a member of the team, but he's younger, so he'll be on there. So there'll be two Tkachuks, three Hughes, couple Nelsons, and then goddamn halibut going on to take on the rest of the world going forward. And that's right where we want to be. We're so incredibly lucky that we get to talk about sports. We're so incredibly thankful that we're a part of the sports world and it's obviously not just me. The toxic table is here at Boston Conner and at Ty Schmidt. Great to see you. We miss you. We love you, buddy. One half of the Hammer, Dad Cowboys AP Tone is here. Do you have any bets of the day or are those gone and how have your bets of the day gone?
C
Those are all gone. We did four of them. We did the. We did the vertical jump. I did under 43 and a quarter inches because I thought that was just. Is an absolute assert. Absurd number. It is, but Sunny Styles did that number yesterday, so I lost that one. And then I did the over 35 and a half reps for bench press. That already went over with. Oh, man. I can't. I can't remember his name. He's out of Kentucky gusto. Thank you, Mr. Gusto. Thank you. I appreciate that. He just repped it out and he fought for those last couple ones, so I appreciate him getting us a win there.
A
Yeah.
I
For all of us.
C
Yes. The ones that have not been settled yet are the broad jump, which I believe it's 11. Four is the over under in that one, and then the other one is the 40. The wide outs and D bucks have not gone. Yeah, that is over. Under 4265. I went with the under on that one.
A
Special athletes trying to chase a special dream. That's what this is all about. Let's go to a man who's a college football national champion, super bowl champion Rider cup winner, and the most athletic human to ever be a part of the combine. A.J. hawk your thoughts on our three days back. Here we go. From radio Row, Okay. To overreaction Monday, and then, boom, right at the combine. Feels like a nice little back to back without the two weeks in the middle.
F
It's awesome. I mean, everything about, like the combine, I didn't know what to expect coming. I actually wasn't here with you, you boys last year. And coming here, it's way more energy, way more juice. And I think the. The just seeing all the GMs and coaches and getting to interact a little bit with them is. Is great because it's true. Like, like you said earlier, Pat, like, we don't. I. I'm actually, I'm in an attic in Ohio, so I do the show. I go back downstairs, drive my kids to practice, do whatever. I have no clue what. What people are watching. So the fact that these guys will mention things that happen on the show, I'm like, what do you do? Like, I. I didn't realize they even knew we were doing a show. So, yeah, it's really cool to be here.
A
It is fun. And Dan Morgan yesterday saying, panthers are go football team.
B
Go football, football team.
A
It's like them knowing what that means. It's like, oh, I. And they appreciated that, I think. Like said, I. I think they genuinely appreciated us going to bat for him. And then there's some teams where they're like, hey, you called us out. And that was like just a reality of situation. Thank you for doing it in an entertaining fashion.
C
There you go.
A
Hey, you got it. Next time, we'll try to add even more into this entire thing, but it's a special time to be an NFL fan, Ty, because just like Connor has mentioned a few times this week, last year, this was his Super Bowl.
D
Yeah.
A
Last year it was like, okay, all eyes are on draft season. We're trying to build some something special. Little do they know they're going to end up in the Super Bowl. But it is a special time where everybody has optimism that they could potentially win the next Lombardi.
E
Yeah.
D
And I think even more so this year after you look at what the Patriots did. Like the Patriots were that example last year. They won what, three games? So it's like that we say it every year, how every fan base goes into the season, and right around this time, it's like, oh, wow, you know what? We actually could be in the Super Bowl. All you have to do is look at what the Patriots did last year. Now, granted, part of that that is Drake may ascends to being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. And you have a guy like Vrabel who you knew was going to turn it around. It was only going to take a matter of time. But, like, the proof is in the pudding. Any of these teams who won three games or four games last year, we have a lot of new head coaches in the NFL. If you do hit on your first pick in the draft or whatever the case may be, like, there is a chance you could be playing in the super bowl next year.
B
Yeah, like Craig Wood said that.
A
So much water. Yeah. I mean, this thing just inside the thing, there's just Walkers who's in an ice bath. I appreciate everybody that's doing this. Somebody brought me up a new Gatorade because they understand I'm going through it from last night. I was very thankful for it. But anytime you get something with a wrapping in it and it's in ice with water, there's a chance that this thing's going to rear naked, choke the water. Every single part had thing. I just squirted it right on myself. So I apologize for distracting you. But yes, there is a lot of optimism going into the season. That's how everybody feels. That's how every team feels here. By the way, Super Bowl's over. Like, Schneider obviously is walking around, you know, as he should. As he should because of what he is. But he knows that's shoots and ladders. He knows that that's.
C
Sean Payton said shoots and ladders does not matter.
A
Like, literally, that is kind of what today is and what this combine is. It's turning a page, con man.
B
Yeah, and that's something, you know, Ty mentioned the draft picks like, and DJ Brought it up. Craig Woodson was one of the best players for the Patriots, and he was one of those guys that fell in the draft because he was older. You know, he stayed in college at Cal longer. And then all of a sudden, you know, he Is a superstar making huge plays. One of the kind of bright spots of the super bowl for New England. So that's also kind of something that we should think about with the combine and just rookies in general, like they're going to be way more impact players as rookies just because they are kind of not veterans. But they're coming in at 23, 24 years old and they play right away in the speed isn't too much, the complexity isn't too much. Whereas before when they were younger, you probably needed a year or two to get used to it.
A
A lot of snaps. Yeah, a lot of snaps for a lot of these players. Some suing people to try to get more call.
D
That's right.
A
To try to be able to delay going into the NFL. Here's the draft order that we'll be looking at for the next couple of months. Raiders with Fernando Mendoza, Orlovsky, Jets, Cardinals, Titans. Who that's old logo, I think.
D
Yeah.
A
Shout out to us. Giants, Lions, Browns, Commanders, Saints and then at number nine.
C
Crazy. Oh, that Kansas City chief who's mocked there a lot.
A
Are the Chiefs dating? Is that what people are thinking?
C
I don't know, but I know Jeremiah Love is knocked there a lot. Jeremiah Love in that offense with Mahomes and all those other boys would be something to watch. But it's crazy to see that logo in the. In the top 10. And Mahomes gets back healthy, they fix their offensive line. I think they'll be just fine.
A
It feels like Travis Kelce's playing again, huh? Yeah, absolutely.
C
We broke that last year.
B
Feels like Tyreek Hill's going.
D
Oh yeah, you're right.
A
Oh yeah. I'm surprised. See, you know, last night I was, you know, in a state of mind that I hadn't been in a long time. I was. It was nice catching up with everybody, seeing everybody. I was firing off some text to people in the league.
F
Yes.
A
Calling them lame for not being there. You loser. This guy saying you didn't want to come because blah, blah, blah.
E
Love that.
A
A lot of people. A lot of people. A lot of former teammates, a lot of former coaches, both from West Virginia and also in the league. There's a lot of people at a lot of different staffs now that we're getting older that we know. So talking. I'm surprised I didn't just fire one off to old killer Trav last night and I'm thankful I didn't. Trav, you almost got a U up text me last night. Just kind of figure out what the story Is if he's coming back, he'll be motivated once again.
B
Yep.
A
And if they. I mean, Tyreek Hill, Dr. Chow is saying, right, yeah, another surgery doesn't look good for this year. But what if it's a tail end of the season or whatever? Because Tyree Kill, we've seen him be very durable and also recover very quickly if he's able to get back over there. And then you got Patrick Mahomes, who's being counted out as a guy that's not even good anymore. Basically, people aren't even mentioning his name. And it's like Andy Reid and the boys over there can be very motivated with the Chiefs, and they got a top 10 pick that they can bundle with some other shit and move up if they want to. Because just like DJ said, 17 to 34 a lot. So if you like somebody and you want to move up, there's going to be a lot of dancing partners, I think.
C
Yeah.
A
What if the Chiefs trade up into the top five? What if the Chiefs make a move and all of a sudden we see a dynasty in the middle of it while also having definitely a top 10 pick, but maybe even higher than that. There's a chance for all of that, which is why it's so exciting.
B
Well, that's why today and tomorrow would be cool, because we're going to see tight ends and receivers like they, they. They're the ninth pick, they might get the number one or number two receiver of the entire draft. And that feels like the position that has been the most successful as far as guys coming in, you know, in the top 10, getting picked and then immediately making an impact like a Carnell Tate. Could you imagine a player like that with Mahomes, you know, Kenyon Sadiq, a freak like that? Yeah. Makai Lemon. Like, if they get the number one weapon of this class, and then you talk about Tyreek Hill, Jeremiah, you know, Tyree Kill plays the last 10 games. I get a number one weapon from the draft or even more so if they get a, you know, top one, two, three, tackle or lineman. It's like there's just so many options for Kansas City that if you do think you're. That they are dead in general, you should probably rethink that thought completely.
A
Ladies and gentlemen. Joining us now is a man who is going to go down as one of America's greatest athletes. Had a moment that sent us all into a frenzy. He's got a picture. Busted Chiclet, ladies and gentlemen, Olympic gold medalist Jack. Pocket. That is so cool. Just got a Gold medal.
F
Of course.
A
You're the greatest. You are the greatest, dude, I want to give you stick tops.
B
Stick tops, boys.
A
Stick that for the boys. Yeah, Put a bow and your back pocket. This kid's got a gold medal in his back pocket for the rest of his life.
B
Oh, man, don't. Don't mess that up. You love.
F
Yeah, you pass it down to you in a second, maybe. Is it all if I passed it, Connor?
A
No, I think you should hang on to that. They put a graphic out last night, Jack. You wouldn't know this, that said AJ Hawk was the greatest athlete of all time. Yeah.
F
So that during your game.
A
Hey, you won that. Hey, check out that. Jack, we apologize that you're sitting here and we're applauding somebody else. Thank you. Hey, thank you.
G
Hell, yeah.
B
Let's go.
E
Appreciate it so much. I know I've said that like a million times, but since we've come back to the US man, we feel so much love and support, so it's been unbelievable.
A
Well, I think your gratitude is why we appreciate it so much. Like your speech, your interview immediately afterward after bearing, as Tkachuk was calling it on his podcast, by the way, run it up, boy. We need a lot of clips. You go ahead and run that thing up. This is going to be a good one. Tkachuk said the greatest goal of our generation. And then you go and do an interview immediately afterwards and you talk about, like, how thankful you are and how proud you are of the country. Why is that? Do you think? It's because United States hockey always fighting against Canada hockey, like, since you're kids, like, how about this generation of team that you guys have? Why do you think it meant so much? And why do you think you were the right group to do it?
E
Yeah, I mean, first of all, you got to remember there's the National Team Development program in Michigan, and, you know, all these guys, I think of the 25 guys on that team, I think, like, 21 of those guys are NCDP guys. So that's where, like, the best American kids go to play and grow up. And you play there when you're 16, 17 years old and you get drafted out of there. So, like, these guys, man, there's, like. I think there's eight guys off the 96, 97 program teams there. So. So these guys were going to high school together and stuff.
A
Are you one of those guys or are you younger than me?
E
I was an 01, so Matt Bouldy was on my team. He's an 01 mass kid. Brock Faber and Jake Sanderson on 2002 team. So we used to, like, I legit was in class with these guys, you know, and that's where it all starts. And these guys grow up playing together. Like you go to weddings and all these guys are at the weddings, like the Matthew Tkachuk wedding. I think like seven or eight of these guys are there and you're just like, the team camaraderie is unbelievable. And I mean, like the usa, like the ex USA hockey players, man, the way they speak about us and, you know, the things they have done for us. That's why I said it, like, in that interview. The USA Hockey brotherhood is so strong and I don't know what it's like for other countries, but, you know, we appreciate the guys that have come before us so much and. And, you know, I know that in 20 years there'll be another Jack Hughes and I hope he says there won't be anything. There will be because there's Mike Madonna, there's Patrick Kane, there's Auston Matthews, there's Jack Eichel, like, and it's just legacy and it's.
C
Did I see Rizzo on someone's shoulders?
A
Yeah.
E
I think on Dylan Larkin.
A
Larkin.
E
Dylan Larkin was the MVP of the party. Him and Charlie McAvoy, those guys were unbelievably.
A
I believe Charlie McAvoy will be joining us next week. Can't wait to talk to them about that. Very excited to celebrate with the boys, obviously, the 11 celebration. We've been following you guys, enjoying this all much quicker, like, because we see the Stanley Cup. I think OVI went for like three weeks straight with that thing, boozing every single day. The Lordo celebrations are legendary at this point. I mean, that's real Hockey players are good at celebrating. We think that is a trait that you guys have. Yeah, it is. You guys are very good at that. Quick turnaround here. You guys are already back in the league. Do you feel like you will always have the group text you said, the USA Hockey Brotherhood is there and I saw you whenever the New Jersey Devils wanted to celebrate you, and you went and got Tage Thompson out there from the Buffalo Sabres and brought him out to celebrate and your place went crazy for him as well. Do you feel like you guys are going to be connected forever? Because you definitely are. And how do you manage that for the rest of the season here?
E
Yeah, I mean, we're definitely bonded forever. You know, we're a championship, you know, Olympic gold medal winning team and we're just so happy I mean, we got the World cup coming up this year in the U.S. so what's happening?
A
When do we beat everybody else?
E
That's happening soon, but I'm sure we'll do something along the lines of that. And then. It's such a good guy. Like, we were talking already, like, can't wait for the golf trip this summer. Like, it's just like, man, the team camaraderie, and, like, just these USA guys, they're all just such great guys. Such a happy, genuine group, and I'm so glad to be a part of it and just be one of the guys. You guys. You guys all know it. It's like, be one of the guys, man. It's the best. And that locker room, man, I miss it already.
A
Me too, man. Yeah. Hey, when you guys do that golf trip, please don't announce it publicly while you're at. So I don't feel obligated. Thank you so much. Go ahead, A.J. yeah.
E
Hey, Pat, Max, are you gonna cover this thing?
A
That was for America. That wasn't just me. As I said in there.
E
No, that.
A
That was the entire United States of America. Thank you for giving us.
E
We had an unbelievable night. So fun watching all the guys just enjoy that. And I wish, obviously, we wish we could have let it roll for a little longer, but we're back at it. Like, I played it back to back already. I think a couple other guys played it back to back, but, I mean, that was so fun. But we're hockey players. We're back to playing Biscuit and just, you know, back to it.
D
So it's all about.
A
I'll tell you what, you get a couple Hozel snozzers, and then you get a little Biscuit.
D
Yeah.
F
Did you? I. I guess every little kid seems that, you know, whatever sport they play, they. They dream they. They envision themselves as a little kid, like, hitting the winning shot, whatever. Did you ever, as a kid, or even leading up to that, throughout practice, think, like, hey, I might be the dude that wins a gold medal for this country? Did that ever cross your mind? And then also, like, right after it happened, I guess. Did it. Did it sink in right away what had happened and you'd won a gold for the team?
E
It's hard to say because, you know, there was a story that went out right after Quinn, I think Quinn, my brother had an interview, and they asked him, like, are you surprised? Like, can you believe it was your brother? And I remember the night before the game, before a big game, it's hard to sleep, obviously, and we're in these barracks in these dorm rooms in the Olympic Village, right? So we're in twin size bed and we like, probably 11:30, we're like going to bed and I can hear Quinn rolling around for like, no joke, three hours. And it was like, probably two in the morning. This is like unbelievable. And at two in the morning, he's like. He asked me, he's like, what are you thinking about? And I'm just like, I'm just thinking about my. My game winner tomorrow night. What about you? He said, same, and that was it. And we went to bed after that. But.
A
Oh, I'm getting serious right now thinking of that, honestly.
E
Yeah, like, when I'm a kid, obviously you dream of it and you just dream of putting the jersey on the USA jersey because it means so much and. Yeah, I mean, you just like, did I think I was gonna be the guy? Like, I believe in myself so much. But whether it was me, Matthews, Kachuks, Eichel, like, whoever, we're so genuinely happy for whoever because we just wanted to bring a gold medal home for our country.
A
Yeah. And you did. And we loved watching it. And I think against Slovakia, you had a silky cook, top chin, nasty.
H
So.
A
So. Oh, sick dangles in there at full speed. I will hit all the hockey terms that I know in this conversation, but whenever you that nasty shot in that particular goal, then I hear Kachuk, you know, give his little rundown of the potential. So what is going through your mind there? How much are you thinking? Are you blacking out? Is it all just like natural reaction? And how does the puck end up five hole as opposed to maybe somewhere else in this particular shot?
E
Yeah, I think like that clip, if you bring it back, the biggest, honestly, the biggest thing going through my head. McDavid, best player probably ever.
B
Well, Sid, was.
A
Sidney Crosby exists. Thanks, Jack. And then you also exist too. So let's remember that.
E
He was coming down on me and all the boys on the bench were freaking out, you know, nervous because I'm a forward playing defense. And he was coming down on me. And then good defensive play there. And then obviously Larkin Z get up the ice and kind of like on that play when the goalie, it's like a seam pass going. The goalie's going cross crease. So I was trying to go across the grain and he's an aggressive, fast goalie and he shot out at me and like, I was looking low, glove low, like low on the far side of the net. And, you know, he shot out at me and it ended up going five hole, but I didn't even know it went in because the puck got wrapped around the. Like, where the camera holder is. So instead of it, like, the puck usually, like, shoots out of the net, and this time it, like, got stuck in the net. So I didn't even really know. And then I turned the corner and I saw Dylan Larkin, the first guy I saw just sprinting up the ice. And I said, like, we did it.
A
Holy hell. Yeah, you certainly did, brother.
E
That was special for me.
A
I know you were out there doing the shot. I was in a hotel, and I said, we did it. I think that was the cool feeling. Like, did you guys know that? And you talked about being at Olympic Village. That was the decision made by you guys, I think, right? To kind of buy into everything that is the Olympics. And we bought into who your team was. Did you guys know that? And I heard a lot of conversations from Solly, who obviously was with Pittsburgh for a long time. We thank him for Stanley Cups. Now he's in New York. I heard he gave some great speeches. And were you guys reminding each other, like, hey, our country is, like, really riding with us right now. Like, 5am West coast people were up 8am it's like, here we go. Every single moment we're alongside. Did you know that in the moment? And how much do you guys kind of chat about that, or how much does Solly bring that up?
E
Yeah, so I have so many points off that one question, but I feel like there's, like, five different points off that.
A
Do it. And also, final one, are you getting used to speaking with the busted shit? Is this gonna be you forever?
B
It should be. Looks cool.
E
So regarding Sully, you know, you get into these, like, these Olympic teams, these, like, it's the big dogs on every team, you know? So you get in that locker room, it's just a bunch of alphas. Like, you got guys that are leaders on their NHL teams and just a lot of big personalities and guys that have, like, you know, exude. Exude confidence.
A
Yeah, I'm choked up, too, dude.
E
Sorry. They exude confidence, and they're like the ultimate leaders and just, you know, big dogs, alpha. So I think in that room, there's a ton of belief, no matter what happens, so much confidence. And then Sully just kept telling us, American swagger. American swagger. That was kind of. His motto was American Swagger. And, you know, Billy Garon, our GM at the start of the tournament, brought us in and said. He said, whatever it takes. Doesn't Matter if the food's bad at the Village. Whatever it takes. Doesn't matter if, you know, the locker room's too small. Like, whatever it takes. Doesn't matter if the ice is bad. Whatever it takes. And with that and Sully just driving home. American Swagger. American Swagger. We're the best team in this tournament. We're the best team in the world. Like, our belief just skyrocketed. And obviously, you know, American Swagger brought us a gold medal.
A
And I like that we got American Swagger. And I'm getting choked up too. You know, I. I had a big night last night. Having a good. Having a good American Swagger.
E
We should have paid for your nightlife last night, huh?
A
Still available. Seven years in the NHL. Number one overall pick. Yeah. I learned a lot about a lot of your guys pockets after that night. You know, a lot of people telling me, but American Swagger. Could you feel that America was behind you guys, though?
E
Yeah, I mean, we were in the. In the Village. We're locked in. We're in Italy. We're just with the boys. We're.
B
We're.
E
We're locked in. We're dialed in. You guys know how it is when you're focused on something. You're just like, you got your mind on the task. And we knew people back home were supporting and loving us so much, but I mean, once we touched down on American soil, we were like, wow, man, we are really feeling the love and we feel so supported. And that was sick because just when we got back home, we really felt it and we were just like, we were so proud to be back in the US With a gold medal.
A
Yeah. And you're the women as well. We just dominate sport. Do you guys hate them? I heard.
D
Yeah,
A
I heard you hate the women's hockey team. Dude, that's crazy.
E
Village man. Like, we're hanging out with these. Them so much. The women's team, we are supporting them. Like, we're at their games, they're at our games. Like, all these people talking. How many of them watch their gold medal game? Me and Quinn Hughes were. We're in the game. We are at the game until like, overtime ended on the glass and we were jumping up and down. So excited for these girls. So excited they won. And how many of these people watched the gold medal game, watched their semifinals game? Like, 10 of our players went to their game in the round robin. Like, we supported them so much and we're so proud of them. We're so happy that they won and they brought a Gold medal back and that, you know, I said it. The men's and women's team both brought gold medals back. So just unbelievable for USA Hockey.
A
Yeah. We own the sport. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, hey, sorry about it. Now, listen, I do think there is some political things that happen, and maybe people that have never watched sports before where not just a hockey game or any sport ever were potentially the people that are maybe hopping in to some of these conversations. But you, allegedly, you and your brother, the story was like, Tom Brady wanted to meet up. There was a time, a schedule, and you're like, nah, no, I would like to go watch the women's hockey team. Your mom, I believe, is a women's hockey. U.S. women's hockey, like, legend from my understanding. So that narrative getting built, I assume, for you guys is very, like, frustrating in this entire thing. And I think as we roll on, it'll be very obvious that, you know, we're all in this thing together. We got Megan joining us here in, like, an hour or so. She's up in Ottawa.
E
Keller.
A
Yeah.
E
Yeah, man. Me and her had a great moment in the cafeteria after. After her gold medal game. We played Slovakia the next night, and it was like a late. A late game. Nine, ten games to get back to the caf at, like 1:30 at night. And, you know, I was in the. We were in the pasta line, me and Megan, they were just getting ready to go out again, and I just gave her a massive hug and I said, I'm so happy for you. I'm so proud of you. And you wouldn't believe me and Quinn's reaction. We were so pumped for you. And then two nights later, whatever it was, a couple nights later, saw her again in the calf, and we took a great picture and she just gave me a big hug and was so pumped for me as well.
A
Yeah, well, that's. Yeah, that feels like that's how probably everybody that's in the entire thing. Now, granted, after you win the gold medal and you're in a locker room feeling euphoria, we need you guys to be conscious about good journalism, okay? We need you guys to be good conscious about all that type of stuff. The expectations on you guys in that moment, outrageous. But just know that everybody with a brain, so pumped for both you and the women say, I believe they're playing Freebird right now as a. As an ode to you.
B
That's sweet.
A
You boys going wild over there with a few songs. I feel like we watched it at 11. Whenever the songs came on, it was like, oh, this Must have been the
E
boys dream on, like ten times.
B
Oh, yeah.
E
It's the best song of all time. Like, come on, boys. I'm sure the usual, like, on deck. What's on deck for that? Dj?
C
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
E
Way different than what was going on.
A
Connor has a question for you.
B
Yeah. Pat just mentioned you come from a family of playing Biscuit. You know, your. Your mother being a huge part of USA Hockey, your dad. And there's a sweet moment after the game of Big Wal Chuk and your dad kind of basically holding each other's, you know, heads in their hands, just euphoric after you scored that game winner. But just talking about your family, you know, was there a moment after the gold medal when it was just you guys or you guys got a chance to just kind of take in that moment? And how huge of an upbringing, you know, with your mother and father being involved in hockey, has that played just in your entire life, you know, let alone your older brother being, you know, legend captain over in Vancouver, getting traded to Billy G's Wild before as well to him. Him kind of having that. That connection. But how cool.
A
And there's another one, right? There's another one of you.
B
Yeah. Your other brother, a teammate of yours, I believe, like Luke, that that is also just such a, like, kind of historic family of hockey. Like, how do have you guys had a chance to sit down just as the Hughes together and how much do they mean to you as far as your hockey journey goes from this moment?
E
So, yeah, I'll start with, you know, I'll start with the Keith Tkachuk Jimmy Hughes celebration in the crowd. Unbelievable. And I don't know if they're. What they're doing hugging, kissing up there.
A
Yeah.
E
But so when Quinn. This NTDP that I was speaking about before, when Quinn and Brady were there together, they lived together with Big Walt. So those three lived together for two years.
A
Wow.
E
And, like, Big Walt means so much to Quinn Hughes's development. He's got so many funny stories of Quinn and Brady. So, yeah, like, the Hughes and Tkachuk family are so close. Matthew and Brady have been so good to the three of us for so long, and it's family, so the fact that you got to share that together is unbelievable. And then regarding my family, we really haven't had much time to, you know, just break this down and, you know, just talk about how special it is. I just told my parents briefly, you know, when I saw them, like, how proud I am to represent them the Hughes family name. And I'm just so thankful and lucky that they sacrificed everything for us. For them to have three boys in the NHL. People don't even understand how hard it is, how much hard work it takes to get one boy there, let alone three. So I'm just so lucky. I'm so thankful that they're my parents, and I'm so proud and. And I'm so proud that we represent them and, you know, everything they've done for us.
A
So the hockey God just said, let's pick the perfect guy for this whole thing. That's what they just did. Everything you do is, like, with such humility. Why is that? Cause hockey is, like, a sport that will just beat your ass. Like, hockey is the culture that this entire thing. Because every hockey player I met, which is why I think we're all so happy for the women's and men's hockey team. It's, like, always say and do the right stuff. Like, team always first before anything else. I assume you're even kind of uncomfortable with all the spotlight, but it's for the good of the game and for the good of the United States of America. Is that just what hockey is? And obviously, whenever you grow up in it with your family, it's just kind of like, hey, remember, this is much bigger than just you. Is that kind of the mindset you think of hockey and why your culture has remained what it is? Where you eat a stick, lose a tooth. Who knows how painful that has to be? Has to be so painful. And then you. I talked to you earlier. You're like, there wasn't really, like, a question on if I was gonna. Like, people are making a big deal out of that. Like, you were almost, like, confused why it was such a big deal. And I think it's because in every other sport in 2026, if somebody is given an opportunity to potentially say, ah, I gotta look out for me, especially for something you're not getting paid for, which would be the Olympics. It's like, they would definitely bow out of that. You being the guy that you are from the family that you are doing that, I think showcased hockey in such a good light as a whole, but also the way you guys have handled it, I think people have fallen in love with your sport. Why do you think the sport of hockey has such a good culture? And, like, what do you think that means to the future of the sport?
E
Yeah, we were talking about it before, but obviously hockey players are, you know, such nail guns, really. They play through some injuries.
A
Can I start using that nail?
C
We all put in our heads a bit.
E
They play through so many things. Games played matter and they're important. And I'm a guy, like, I've gone through my fair share of injuries and I always hear fans like, chirping me and like, being like. But man, like, there's nowhere I'd rather be than playing. Like, that's what I want to do more than anything. And yeah, like this thing, like every single hockey player loses teeth. That's not even a question. I know it looks from the outside gnarly, like some big deal, but, you know, it doesn't matter who it is. Every single hockey player is like playing through that. Cause it's just whatever. It's more just like, God damn, like, gotta go spend time in the dentist's chair now. That's.
A
Yeah.
C
And you were hoping. You were hoping for blood to get the four.
E
Yeah, like, I just. Honestly, Quinn, if you watch the clip again, I'm like looking down at my teeth and Quinn's the guy with the puck for the delayed penalty and he's like, he's like looking at me. And then at the TV timeout, he comes up to me, he's like, it's not that bad, man. It's only chipped. You're good. I'm feeling around in my mouth. I'm like, I don't know, man. But yeah, back to the hockey culture. Like, it's always about the team first. I imagine football is the same way.
A
Kinda.
E
Yo, like, it's team first. It's all about the boys. It's a great group of guys. Hockey, the common hockey guy is just a solid down to earth guy. And, you know, this USA group was an elite, elite group of guys. And it's so much fun to be a part of them. So it was all about the team, all about the boys, and just all about being together, united as one big group and, you know, bringing a gold medal home.
A
Okay, so what is the dentist going to do? Just pull it out completely so you just have no front teeth so everybody knows who you are whenever you show up? I don't know, but why don't we just keep this.
E
Is there a chance a dentist reaching out in America? It's like, it's hilarious. It really is.
A
Yeah, you got the golden Chiclets, pal. I mean, they're certainly going to be looking for something. But honestly, why I very thankful when you showed up here with that grill. I was like, yes, that is what it is. And I said to you, are we keeping this forever? Because it could become like calling Card very notable. This guy, the sport of hockey, loses his mind. Okay. Swallows teeth and stick comes back, wins the Olympic gold medal. Never question leaving. It's like, such a good thing for sports and grit and everything like that. And I asked you if you're gonna keep that, and you're like, it does hurt like hell. I mean, like, currently you are in pain, I think. What is the plan with the mouth? What is your going forward?
E
Honestly, right now, no plan. Like, dude, we just had a back to back in Jersey and Pittsburgh and then off to St. Louis to play games tomorrow, so. So I'm kind of just like, dialed in again on playing hockey. And thank you. I have no idea, like, what my dental plan is yet, so we'll see. That's on the back burner a little bit.
A
I think we should think about figuring out how not to be in pain
B
or knock it out. Maybe take a picture, take a piece of the gold medal gold tooth. As the tooth.
A
There it is up there on the
E
Pat Matt McCovy Show. Boom, there it is.
C
Yeah.
A
Yeah, we would do it. We'll do a lot of this.
B
If you'd like us to bring in a dentist.
A
Yeah, we'll get a dentist in here to come pull that thing out. And then we'll go ahead and get.
C
Connor will do it to one of his teeth, too.
B
Yeah, I'll do it to one of mine, too. From your gold medal, though.
A
Another thought, if we're doing brainstorming, I like this. And I think I would like a piece of your gold medal as well. For doing gold teeth. I didn't know if that was available for all parties or not. What if you do just get one of those, like, little flipper things that covers in there. And then when you're at events and they're like, ladies and gentlemen, Olympic gold medal strike user. And go, ha.
E
Oh, yeah.
A
You know, take the photo, put it back in there.
B
Crush with the kids. The magic tricks you could do, let alone that.
A
How about the beer cons? Oh, yeah. They were shot.
E
Oh,
A
my. Not that you should do that. Professional.
B
Just ideas.
A
Yeah. If you want us to do more
E
ideas, these are good ideas, but I'm going to scratch all them. Just see a good dentist.
B
All right, that's fair.
E
Yeah.
A
Sorry, boys. Listen, you're. You're Jackie. Whatever you want, okay? I mean, I'm bummed out about that, but you can do whatever you want. Go ahead, Ty.
D
It's very evident. Evident how? And we've talked about it, you know, like, the hockey culture in general, all you guys are very humble. We've met a lot of, you know, hockey players who are big time players in the NHL and, like, the humility always shines through. But has it been, like, evident yet? Like, holy shit. Like, my life completely changed overnight. Like, I don't know if that's really set in yet, but, like, I saw. And again, this isn't the end all, be all. It means nothing in the long run. But, like, boom, you shoot up and you have over a million Instagram followers right after it. Like, everyone who. Who is maybe like a sick tangential hockey fan, like, they know who you are now. Like, have you felt that at all or not really?
E
Yeah, of course. I mean, you definitely feel it. Like, it's definitely. It is a different level, for sure. It's. I know people say it's the biggest goal in American hockey in 46 years, so I'm not oblivious to that. But it's also, like, the time where I have to lean into who I am, the most ever in my life, probably, and just, you know, stick to who I am. You know, all that other stuff is materialistic and it's just, obviously, it's cool and it's great and the people that have reached out and it's unbelievable. And I appreciate the support, but right now is the time in my life where I have to be. I have to be Jack Hughes more than I've ever been in my life. And that's what I'm trying to do. So I'm proud of this whole moment. I'm so happy that I was the guy. And like I said, I'm so happy to be a part of that group, but I want to try to, you know, always be humble about, you know, that goal and go about it the right way.
A
All right, we'll brag for you.
E
Seriously, though. But, like, I know I don't want you guys to think I'm some squid that just like, squid.
A
Okay. Any of these.
C
Is that from Rocket Power?
E
But yeah, like, I'm. Trust me, I am so proud. There's been so many people every reached out. So many, like, family, friends, loved ones, and then on top of that, so many athletes that I respect. So many cool people, and it's been unbelievable. But for this group, for. For USA Hockey, for the country, I feel like, like, so many people in the country needed this. And, yes, it is just. It is such an unbelievable feeling.
A
Hey, tell me about the Medal of Freedom winner. Presidential Medal of Freedom winner. Halle Buck saw every puck.
E
That is. That's unbelievable, man. Like, that Is. I think that's the highest honor a citizen can win.
A
I watched a clip from my understanding. The way it was delivered is, hey, this is the top, okay? Civilian ain't getting anything else other than this. And he stood on his head, obviously, but wasn't there some things being said about him? Like, I can't play in a big game. Can't do this. And then in the biggest game, he plays the best game. A goalie you ever. I don't know what. You would know hockey a lot, obviously.
E
Yeah. So we had.
A
You would kind of know.
E
I know a little bit, huh?
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Probably better than me.
E
No, but we had the Bills. I think there's like a. There must be a documentary or something coming out. The NHL had camera crews in the locker rooms following things, but you'll see it at some point. But our game, our player of the game award at the end of the games. I won it after the Slovakia game, and I gave it to Hellebuck, obviously, after the gold medal game. And I said, helly, in the biggest game, Helly was the best player in the world. And he really was like. He was unbelievable. Some of those. I keep replaying the game in my head.
A
I'm like, how about McAvoy back here?
E
How the hell did I even score that goal? Because Helle made so many ridiculous saves. Like Celebrini, breakaway. McDavid, breakaway. The stick one. There's another one with two minutes left. When I was in the box, Celebrini had a. A rebound play on the power play. And it's just like he's still in his head. And now he's got the highest achievement an American citizen can win. And we're.
A
All.
E
The players are so happy for him. And I live on the same lake as this guy in the summer, and I just see him fishing all day.
B
He has it on his helmet with a bat. He has a large mouth.
E
He's my goalie in the summer for our summer skates. And there'll be mornings where he'll text my guy, Matty Williams, and he'll be like. Like, hey, man, I can't come in today. And we know it's. Cause it's good fishing weather. And we're like, you scumbag. And he does that all the time because he loves it. He's on the lake. He's an outdoorsy guy. He's just such a chill guy. And we're so happy that, you know, in the biggest and brightest moments, he could stand on his head and the whole World saw you know how special he is.
A
Yeah, he certainly is. Go ahead, aj.
F
Yeah, obviously. End of regulation. It's one to one. You guys tied.
E
Guy looks good with a gold medal.
A
He's the most athletic guy in the history. I'll get it back to you, don't worry.
F
But they. I'm wondering, when you go, do you get to three on three, how much do you, how much do you get to work on that? How different is that than, you know, the normal regulation play?
E
Yeah, it's different.
F
Just it's fun to watch, by the way. I know it's a non hockey person.
A
It's been happening for a long time, by the way.
F
Yes, I know, but I'm saying it's awesome to watch and it's got to be so different for you guys, I would imagine.
E
No, it's so fun and like for a guy like me, that's like peak game for me. Just because it's like open ice, highly skilled, fast, like run and gun up and go. So even four on four in regulation, when guys are in the box, it's four on four. It's more like ISO ball, you know, it's more like other sports maybe because hockey, it's so tight and things happen so fast. But when it's 4 on 4, 3 on 3, it's like more ISO ball. And like guys are like, like you can one on one, someone like, you can like man up a little bit more. And that's just like fun hockey because it's like pick and rolls, like man up, get your guy. And a little more like basketball, I'd say, and like football, like with wide receivers. Like when Quinn scored his OT winner against Sweden, he was like, he was locked on. He's like, you got to get me the pocket, like on this guy in the spot. And well, I got a good matchup.
A
I got a good matchup. Hey, I got a good matchup. We all see it. Yeah, that's a beautiful thing. But, but you guys usa but like
E
three on three is fun. And obviously the only time you would practice really is during NHL play, just like with your teams and you go to overtime and stakes are definitely higher in overtime. Yeah, in the quarters. Man, that Sweden team was so good. Like we were like, we were confident, but we were nervous too because Sweden's probably the third best tournament team in that tournament. So when we had to play them in the quarters, we were like, we gotta get our shit together fast. You know, we gotta play. And that game was a dogfight. Great win by Quinn and Then obviously the stakes are the highest in the gold medal game. And they have great players. They have the best players in the world. We have highly skilled players. And yeah, like anything can happen in overtime.
A
Yeah, we're the greatest hockey.
B
Yeah.
A
So let's not worry about that. There's a Canadian back in the truck who's going 58 World Championships back in the truck. It's like, okay, yeah, we respect that. We do appreciate that. Tkachuk said on that podcast that he was told, hey, you're not going on the ice for three on three, brother. So he just became. He said he actually started doing the boochie overtime challenge. Who do we got? He said, a couple people got you and that. So you guys know who your 3 on 3 guys are. Sully told you that. Going into the tournament, like, you don't
E
know, but you kind of like have a feel like Kachuk's are unbelievable players from like blue line down. Like, their whole game will be like, like around the nets. Like, there's so. There's so much better than so many guys in the league. Like right around the net, rebounds, tips, like all the little things. Like, it's just like, same with any other sport. Everyone's got their things they're good at. Like, where I'm like a skater skill guy. Like, I can get up and down the rink. They wouldn't put me to play net front in a big moment. Yeah, like, Matthew Tkachuk's that guy because he's one of the best in the world at it. So, yeah, they were so funny in the locker room. Like, they're hilarious and they feed off each other. So. But there are so many big personalities in that locker room. Like, I don't know what the Canada locker room was, but USA locker room
D
was a lot of pouting.
E
It was tight, for sure. It was tight where we were focused, but it was also loose. We're like, this group's having fun. We believe in each other. We're gonna get this shit done.
A
And that's because we have the Kachuks
E
and Jack Eichel and the boys, the
A
McAfee show behind us and American swagger. Jesus Christ. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You want to give himself credit classes, go ahead.
C
I did want to ask about the locker room because obviously Pat talked about, like, we're watching at home and we feel like we're there. First period boys are buzzing. Like, felt really good. The second period felt like it was a 20 minute minute power play for Canada. Like the ice was tilted between second and third and Then third in overtime. What was the locker room like during those times?
E
It was. It was fine, you know, like, that was like. That was a big push out of them. And it was funny. It was like, the guys were talking about it when, like, they're like, yeah, there's gonna be a movie. Like, what are they gonna call it? And they're like, the Great Hole. They're like, like, funny stuff just because. Because what happens is, like, McDavid, McKinnon, like, McCarthy. These guys are unbelievable. They're gonna make their players, their plays no matter what. Like, they're great players. They're gonna make things happen. And yeah, like, it was hard for us in the second, I think, like, they were kind of just rolling and the ice was tilted and they had a couple power plays, I think.
C
So five on three. Yeah.
A
Yeah.
E
Like, the I. That was like a massive kill out of our group. When we killed that, we're like, there's no way we're losing this game. Then Makar scored. Then you're in a 1:1 hockey game. You just gotta hold the fort down in between the second and third. That's really when Sully was like, american swagger. You guys gotta lean in. We're the best team in this tournament. You gotta believe. We went out in the third. I think we played a. Okay, third, held the fort down. Helly was obviously elite. We had good looks on the foreman and power play. Like, we could have easily won it there. They had good looks on the power play right after that. And then, like I said, over time, going in, we were loose. We were focused, but we were like. We weren't tense. And it wasn't like, it needs to be me. It needs to be this guy. Like, it was like, someone in this group is gonna be a hero. That's what Sully said. Someone in this group is. Someone in this locker room is gonna be a hero for the rest of their lives. And you know, this whole group, like, we're champions now. We're gold medals.
D
List.
A
He was talking about you, but American hero. Holy. You didn't know at the time, or maybe you did, actually, that 2:00am chat when we're in.
C
That's sick.
A
When we're in the barracks.
B
Wow. He doesn't. He doesn't respect the gold.
C
Put it around his neck.
F
I respect it too much to continue to wear that.
A
So what are you going to do? So you. You look super cool with that of your back pocket. I felt like X Games guy walking out.
B
Skateboarder.
A
Yeah. I got a lanyard coming out of my back pocket so I can get into this Lucas Oil stadium. You can just keep that mouth of yours. You'll be able to get in anywhere. But I. I appreciate the way you want. About all of it. I want to let you the story you told us a little bit earlier about you and Quinn talking whenever you can't sleep. I'm just thinking about winning this game. Me too, brother. Reedman, this is weird for you to hear here, I would assume, but whenever you said we were loose and everything like that going into overtime, Gumpy, I FaceTimed him as soon as we were going into overtime, and I was like, we win this now, buddy. Yeah. Like you. There's. You should have won that game, and you did not. It gets into three on three. He was like. I felt like the hockey gods are about to give. Like, we're about to win this game. And then I start watching it. I'm like, wow, has Canada ever been better suited for 3 on 3? 3. With what McDavid is.
C
He was going blue line and just a full steam ahead.
A
And with what McKinnon is. And it's like, wait a minute. This might be like, Candace thing.
E
Yeah.
A
And then we start watching your dangles and the boys start cooking. It's like, oh, this ain't. This isn't the early 90s anymore, pal. We are here. And it was. It was a fun ride. I Pittsburgh Penguins fan. We beat the out of you last night. But we did. We did clap for you, which you certainly deserve. Is that. Do you know those are coming? Do you know that's coming? Like, because you were just standing out there seemingly for the national anthem, and then all of a sudden they start showing equipment manager. And then they get to you, and then Pittsburgh goes crazy for you. Obviously, it happened in New Jersey.
E
Yeah.
A
We assume this will be.
B
Yeah. St. Louis next.
G
Oh, yeah.
A
Like, how much do you know about this before it happens? And what has it been like kind of getting love from people that aren't necessarily just like, Devils fans, if that makes sense.
E
Yeah. I mean, we were talking about it off the show, but, you know, I had the one. The ceremony in New Jersey, which was unbelievable. Felt the love like crazy. In New Jersey, obviously, where I play, of course they're gonna do that for me, and I'm so appreciative for that. Then we go to Pittsburgh the next night, and I had an idea they'd do something Olympic wise because that was their first game. But I don't know. I didn't know how to feel because I Know, Sid is obviously their guy, and I'm sure they're rooting for him. Canada do well. But then when they gave me the standing ovation, it was just. I was so grateful and I just said after the game, I said, like, Pittsburgh is such a great sports town, and I'm so proud that, you know, and I'm so happy and grateful that they, like. It was unbelievable, man, to go into an away arena and get a standing ovation, man, that's. I'll remember that for the rest of my life. And, you know, all my friends and my brothers were texting me and they said, how cool is that, man? And I said, that was unbelievable.
A
I don't think they're the last ones.
B
No way.
E
I don't know. I don't know.
A
But we try to get them to do it in here.
C
We do love Sid, but we love American Golds probably a little bit more.
G
Thanks, boys.
E
That was. That was a great moment, though. That was unexpected and super sick. That was. That was special.
A
Go ahead, con man.
B
Yeah, yeah. Warrensky got one in, but not to your level, but he's got one in Boston last night. And one of the moments I think that got everybody was after the game and they go and get Johnny Goudreau's kids. And, you know, the moment of them skating around, I think it was McAvoy, Austin and one other with his jersey and not to mention the photo with both their kids. But how much of a motivation was, like, for Johnny Goudreau?
A
And I see and little follow up, he's been with you guys through this entire, like, he's a part of the
E
teams you're talking about. All these guys have played with Johnny Goudreau. When I was 17, I played at the World Championships. And, you know, I'm obviously a skilled small American forward. And when I went to the World Championships, Johnny Goudreau, Patrick Kane, Clayton Keller, three guys that I looked up to so much growing up were all on the same team. So us four, we're all in that 2019 World Championship team. And like, I spoke with Mr. Goudreau after the Slovakia game. I saw him up in the family room and I talked to him for 10, 15 minutes. And they're just such a good family. All these guys love Johnny. They all played with Johnny for so many years, and he grew up with all these guys, you know, on world junior teams, world championships, Like Panifin Tachuk played with him in Calgary for so many years. Like, Warinski was with him in Columbus, like, all These guys have ties with Johnny and. Yeah, that's Larks. Like, him and Larks were so close. And all of USA Hockey was so crushed when Johnny Goudreau and, you know, his brother passed away. Such a sad tragedy. And, you know, for them to include the Goudreau family and for them to be a part of the man that's they should be, because this is a team that Johnny would be on. And, you know, we're just. We're so sorry for the Goodreau family still, and they're always in our hearts, and we're glad that they could be a part of this.
A
He was there, though, that Macavoy. I felt like there was some things happening. And then you guys.
C
The McKinnon.
A
Then you do it after. Yeah, there's like, so many things. Yeah. Wide open. And then it's like. It did feel like it was, man. And I'm like, getting emotional again, like your team just so many great story lines in there. And then whenever you bring the kids out there and take the picture, it's like, this is hockey culture. Like, this is literally everything that sports tries to be. So thank you all for representing and doing that. Now, before you get on the road to St. Louis, which we assume. We assume in their barn, they're going to be not a bunch of squids represent. You know, they got nail guns on.
C
Will you talk to Bennington at all?
E
Probably not, no. I don't know.
B
Oh, you got to skate by him.
E
I'm sure he's so competitive. And, yeah, he's won. He's won a Stanley cup, probably. I would say a mutual respect there. But we. I don't think we'll talk.
A
Do you think you're going to get targeted from Canadian like Tom Wilson do you got caps anytime like you.
C
He targets everybody.
E
I hope not. I don't know. I really don't know. I think that. I honestly don't know. I would. I would say that the rivalry. USA Canada's very intense right now. Very intense. Like, no tummy sticks going on between. Write it down. But I would say that there's a lot of respect between those two teams. Like, it's a very intense rivalry. Very competitive.
F
It's good.
A
I'm actually kind of happy. I'm kind of happy you guys didn't win four nations because then it would have been the 51st state thing because they won. And then that kind of got quiet. Oh, and that was good. I think that was good to kind of quiet the world. Yeah, I think it was good. You and the boys made us all so incredibly proud. And I know you've been on a little bit of run. We got a back to back, plus we got the White House, plus we got 11, plus we got elbow room, plus we got, you know, the flight back from Italy, which I assume was a good time. And then the barracks boys, and then we're in the caf late night, you know, we got this entire thing. Do you think you could have a little dangles and maybe put this hockey ball with this stick. Stick into that hole right there for a hundred thousand dollar donation to a charity of your choosing?
E
Really?
A
Yeah.
E
Hell yeah.
A
Okay, okay, okay, okay. Let's go, let's go. Let's do this before we let you.
E
I'm taking this off, right?
A
Yes, sir. Yes, sir. We use this one here.
B
Slanted a bit. Be careful.
A
Listen, I don't know if you're gonna be able to handle this right here, okay? Ball hockey. Do you grow up playing any ball hockey or you're strictly ice? Hold on. Don't shoot yet. Hold on. On, please. We'd like to build the moment. Oh, you got pretty good dangling.
B
Silky.
A
Midsummer.
E
What you saying, Charlie McAvoy wants a kick of destiny? I think he said that to you on the. When we FaceTimed you, right?
A
Yeah, he said he wanted to do a field goal kick.
E
Yeah, he wants that. He wants one of those.
A
I like the way you boys are trying to angle it to more money. Okay. I. I do. I really do appreciate that. Okay. Have you ever. Is this seemingly an easy task for you as an actual hockey player? Because we looked at it and we assumed you'd be able to accomplish it, but not 100% sure, because this is an abnormal thing.
E
I actually am nervous right now because this looks kind of hard.
A
Jack, you scored the gold.
E
But I'm on the Pat McAfee Show. I want to make this shot.
A
There is not 26 million people watching the Olympic gold medals. $100,000 to a charity of your choosing. If you're able to put that ball into that hole right over there. Jack Hughes, you've made your entire country proud. You've made all of hockey proud. And now out. You can win $100,000 to a charity of your choosing. Jack, put it in the hole. Oh, my God.
D
Never a doubt.
B
That's a nail gun right there. Yeah, it's a nail gun.
A
Hey, not a squid at all, dude. Love to play tummy stick. Sometime at another day.
C
Quite a bingo.
A
Yeah, What a bingo bingo there. Jack. We appreciate the hell out of you, man. Man. Thank you for taking time with us. Thank you for what you did for America. Safe travels to St. Louis and we can't wait to follow your NHL career, buddy. Ladies and gentlemen, American hero and legend. That was way too. That was a big hole today.
B
Thank you, Jack.
A
Ladies and gentlemen, congrats. Jack Hughes.
B
Yeah.
A
Jackie.
B
Yeah.
C
Thank you, Baby Jackal.
D
Baby Jackal.
C
Baby Jockey.
A
We're still live, but the baby.
F
Huy.
A
Yeah. Get in the car, man.
D
User here.
F
Go get b.
B
Here you go, boys. Oh, no.
A
I need you to sign me stick.
B
Man.
A
Hell, yeah.
B
Not a squid lad.
F
Congrats. Awesome, man.
A
Silky M. Ladies and gentlemen, American hero. Row. Jack.
F
Yeah.
A
Yeah. Was there ever a doubt right there?
D
No. Should have moved it 100 yards back.
B
Yeah.
A
Here's the replay of him just easily. I was kind of in his way too, you know. I wanted to put a little pressure.
B
Yeah, he stepped left, too.
A
Yeah.
C
He knows how to create space just
A
like he gets whenever you play the game. I'll tell you what. We've had a great time here. Back. We hope you have enjoyed our three days here at the combine. We'll be back for over. Oh, we'll be in Arizona with Team USA again. Oh, nice. About changing life. Have a great weekend. Goodbye. Okay. Had to get that in there. Okay, let's get to a break because I'm about to pee my face. On the other side, we got Megan Keller joining us via FaceTime. Thankful that Jack Hughes was able to fit this into a schedule. Also, Megan Keller fitting this into her schedule. She's in the middle of season in Ottawa right now, so we'll catch up with her. On the other side, we'll continue to celebrate incredible athletes from the United States of America who make us all proud while also talking about ball. We'll wrap the show up with Matt Patricia, obviously Ohio State defensive coordinator, a man who knows the NFL very, very well. So we got a lot on the other side. We hope you will join us. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. Might change their life. Take five. Five. Get in the game with the college

Now, was there some shenanigans with Jack Hughes immediately after.
C
Yeah, blame Jack.
A
Is he an American hero? Okay, not telling him. We're about to be joined by another one who as soon as he walks anywhere, everybody in this building kind of caught wind that he was here. And his trip traveled down turned into a full meet and greet for all Olympic gold medal down here. And I thought to myself, this stadium is the perfect place for people that love everything about what Jack and Team USA accomplished. And it wasn't just Jack and Team USA in the men's hockey. It was also a lot of other incredible Olympians that showcased American swagger and American greatness. And although the men's hockey team won, they were not the first hockey team to tell the rest of the world, world, we are the greatest at your sport. Ladies and gentlemen, joining us now from Michigan. Hell yeah. Okay, Foxy went to school in Boston. A lot of Pittsburgh girls on the team as well went to Boston. Now, leader of the Boston fleet, who are seated, what in the pwhl.
B
Let me think about that. Yeah, they're the number one team in the league.
A
We, we extended the invitation saying, hey, Megan, would love to fly you here to chit chat with us and do your thing. First answer was, hey, just got out of the Olympics. We got a game in Ottawa. I am not like, what are we. What are we doing here? We'd love to join. Love to chit chat, but there's no way I can do that. So much respect for her. So much respect for our team. So much respect for the United States. Telling Canada that hockey is our sport. Ladies and gentlemen, golden goal scorer in the gold medal game, Megan Keller. Hey, Megan.
J
What's up, guys?
A
I like that. I like that. It's Heavier than we thought. Jack brought his over. It's heavier than I thought. And obviously it weighs nothing. After you absolutely cook a Canadian and then score in overtime, how is life right now for you? Have you guys gotten a chance to take it all in on how magical the run over in Italy was?
J
Yeah, we've gotten a little bit of a chance to take it all in. We were fortunate enough to have like three days together as a group just to celebrate with teammates, friends and family. So still a whirlwind and can't really believe it, but what an honor it was.
A
Well, Megan, if you guys do put together something ever, I would just. If you could make it public, you know, so the people that would feel obligated to celebrate with American athletes doing great things for the United States, American could potentially help. So if you guys do, we can let you know. Thank you. Please do.
J
We can definitely let you know.
A
Hey, I don't know if you guys are going to want to compete with the men's team, but we already know the number now with where the men's were and I assume what the women can do in the hockey world is obviously spectacular. Let's talk about that moment. Let's talk about winning it. Third time America wins that in the women's hockey division playing against Canada, obviously, America, Canada and hockey right now, it feels like is going to be it. Is there a moment after that when it goes in where there is a legitimate thought like, hey, this is what it's supposed to be? America is supposed to be the best hockey country in the world. What are your thoughts and what are your team's thoughts as it kind of settles in in the moment that you are now the Olympic gold medal winners?
J
Yeah, it was crazy. Honestly, the rivalry is like one of the coolest in sports. U.S. versus Canada, especially on our side. We get to know them very well throughout the year. We play them a of ton. We don't like each other very much. So to have that as a gold medal matchup is. It's what you dream of. And as soon as that puck went in, I think our team was so excited to celebrate. We had an incredible tournament. I think one of the best American teams to be put on the ice on the Olympic stage. So to cap it off, that and also with our captain, Hillary Knight breaking records in the gold medal game to send us to ot doesn't get better than that.
A
Okay. You said one of the best teams. You have to be humble to. To the teams of the past. You guys are the best team. I've I haven't done the research. I should do more. Best team we've ever put on the ice. Thank you so much for allowing us to celebrate alongside of you. Megan. Just learning of you over the Olympics. 100% on me. We'll follow you forever. Boston Fleet, that's our team.
B
Let's go.
A
Boston Fleet is our team. Learning about this. All right, now the pw. Go ahead.
J
We take new fans. So you're more than welcome.
B
Thank you.
A
Because there is some people actually that would say we don't want new fans. To me specifically. And I am thankful that you are inviting me in there. So you just absolutely cooking with the dangles there. Is that. That's what I should expect from Megan Keller all the time. Like are we. We cook people all day on the. Like what. What is. If you were to describe your game, is that your game or just anything that needs to be done?
J
Is Megyn Keller hockey anything that needs to be done? Honestly, I got to be honest. I'm a defenseman, so I don't find myself at the far blue too often. And yeah, the moment called and Taylor heist, he made an incredible pass up all three zones and I don't know, I was just playing hockey at that point. You just go back to when you were a kid and dreaming of those moments. I didn't really think about it. Just kind of blacked out and in the moment.
A
That's one of the greatest blackouts in the history of the. You know, because we've seen bad ones.
B
Oh yeah.
A
Especially last night I saw a couple, you know, walking around Indianapolis. It was not great. Tell me about the team chemistry you talk about. We play obviously with Canada with the pwhl. We just had Jack on. He said he had a moment with you in the cafe 1130 before you guys were about to go back out where he gave you a big hug and said he was proud of you. It felt like their team very tight because they've been together for a while. Will you describe your guys team? Is it similar for the women's hockey team for the USA Hockey. And how would you describe what the locker room was like over there?
J
Yeah, we have a really tight knit group. Group. We've been. A lot of us have been on this journey since four years ago when the Olympic quad starts. We have multiple camps throughout the year. A lot of us have played in college or professionally together. And you go through a lot as a team. And so that's the best part about playing hockey. Like I feel like it's like, the biggest team sport ever. And so when you were working something for your whole life and you get to celebrate with your teammates, like. Like, there's nothing better than that.
A
Yeah, it's beautiful. Sports are the greatest. Okay. Sports are the absolute greatest. My daughter, two and a half. Whenever she, you know, watches this live, she was watching in real time. I don't know if she 100% got it.
D
Sure.
A
Yeah. She. She saw how happy I was. You know, she saw how happy I was, so she got pumped up. She's going to be in sports, definitely, because what sports teach. Women's hockey is so much. I think every time we get a chance to watch, we love it. What were you doing as a kid? Can I. Can I get, like, the game plan on what I need to do to Mackenzie? So, like, what is the. The path for women's hockey here? Obviously, from Michigan, you go and play in Boston College. Now there's the PWHL and Olympics. Is this a. Because the boys I know, they move and go do stuff. Like, what is the women's hockey path to this point as we try to learn more? And hopefully little Mackenzie McAfee's got some dangles that we could potentially see in the future.
J
Yeah, let's get some skates on her. Honestly, it's a different day and age now. When I was growing up, I played every sport under the sun, and I didn't really fully take hockey, like, as my number one sport. Probably until high school. I was playing softball, baseball, basketball. And then I think once I saw women's hockey on the Olympics on tv, I was like, that's what I want to do. That's my goal. And that's when I think hockey was, like, number one for me.
A
Yeah. Thank God. Thank God you did that. Boston Connor has a question for you.
B
Yeah, Megan, I'm a huge fan of the Fleet now. Very excited to follow. Can we talk about the goalie, Erin Frankel, both for the Fleet and Team usa? I believe she's the first goalie ever to shut out Canada from America. And also her numbers overall in the entire Olympics were ridiculous. How awesome is it. It, you know, playing in front of someone like that? And is it also kind of a relief that if you ever do screw up, which probably never happens. Never happens, that she has your back right behind you?
J
Oh, it's happened plenty of times, and she's already saved my ass. She's the best goalie in the world, like, hands down. And she's. She's done it every single day at practice. She's done it in the professional league. So for her to do that on the Olympic stage, like, it's. It's no secret to us, but for the world to see that, it was pretty cool because she just stands on her head. I think in the gold medal game, she had like three off the head that she just saved for us. Like, she. She won us that game for sure. Everybody talks about the Golden Goal, but it was Aaron Frankel.
A
Yeah. This is the hockey culture coming in, everybody. Let's go ahead and pass celebrations to everybody else. It's such an incredible sport. The culture is so much magnificent. We're learning about the pwhl, and there's going to be PWHL fans who are going to be pissed that I just said that. That I am. But I'll tell you what. Minnesota Frost got a good team.
C
Oh.
A
Oh. Out there in Seattle. Vancouver. There's a team. There's a team.
E
Yeah.
A
The Boston. The Toronto Scepters.
B
Oh.
A
Not a bad squad. The New York Sirens are obviously. Tell us what we need to know about the pw. We want to support. We would like to follow. We would like to. Are we at the beginning? Where are we at in the season right now? And when are these games and how can we watch them? We would like to support the hell out of everything that you're doing strictly because of how good you made us all feel from so many miles away. Can you tell me about the PWHL a little bit And Boston Fleet winning the whole damn thing? Is that just what I need to know?
J
We love that. We'd love that. And if the Boston Fleet win, have a Walter cup party. We'll be sure to send you the bar tab.
A
I like that. Yeah, I like being a part of these celebrations. And then you guys sent me a ring or whatever we went. But on that, on that. Can you talk about the PWHL a little bit?
J
Yeah, for sure. I mean, all the players that everybody was watching on the Olympic stage, they all play in the pwhl. It's the best league for women's hockey. And right now, we're about halfway through our season, so it's a big stretch right here for us. Our standings, three points up for grabs every night. So you can walk away three or zero. And so teams go up and down very quickly. It's like always competitive. The parity throughout our league is. Is pretty competitive. So any team can win on any given night. Like, there's no easy games. There's no nights off. So, yeah, Ottawa tomorrow will be a big One for us.
A
Yeah. I mean, there's no easy game unless you got Megan, Colorado.
J
Yeah. Unless you got Aaron Frankel.
A
Okay. And who else. Who else do we need to know on the Boston fleet?
B
Who.
A
Who. Because we're going to buy some jerseys, I assume. Oh, yeah. And obviously you'll get awesome and. Or fanatic, but who. Who. Who should we know in the pwhl, you think? Who are some other names that we need to recognize and respect?
J
Alina Mueller. She's Switzerland. She scored the OT winner for the bronze medal. She also was at the Olympics when she was like, 15 years old, crazy, and had the game winner. So she's incredible. My D partner, Haley, wicked win. She's a rookie. Lighting it up for us. I don't know. I'm just kind of sticking to my team.
D
Really?
A
Yeah. Actually, you're actually looking around y like Ty has a question for you. Megan.
D
Yeah, Megan, obviously you've won two Olympic gold medals, but with this last one being as it. What? You know, you did score the golden goal. Like, how diff. I mean, I know you said you had a couple days with your teammates where you got to celebrate, but how difficult is it to kind of just strip away all that euphoria and everything that you've done and be like, okay, now I gotta go back to, like, my real job. Like, whereas it kind of seems like you guys, when you win an Olympic gold medal and seeing what it did for the country, it kind of seems like you guys deserve to have, like, several months off. How. How difficult is it kind of just being like, okay, that's over and done with. That was awesome. Now I got to get back into the. The day in and day out of what I actually do.
J
Yeah. Honestly, like. Like, I didn't know what to expect because in past Olympics, like, we have had time off. We've gone on trips and whatnot. But I was so excited to get back to Boston knowing where our team sits at right now. Like, we have a pretty special group, and I think just it's an incredible time in sports and women's hockey, like, to garner that viewership and all the. All the juice that the Olympics brought into the pwhl. Like, you're going to see the same players every night now being opponents. Like, we're going to go against our U.S. teammates, and it's going to be a battle. So I'm excited. It was pretty easy, honestly. The first two practices maybe are a little. Little hard after the week off and the celebrations, but we're back to it.
A
Yeah. I think the boys are still struggling. I think rightfully so. By the way, you win an Olympic gold medal. Yeah. You deserve to have a little bit of a. We won't call it a hang over. Yeah.
D
A couple runaways.
A
A little carryover. Yeah. A little bit of a. It was a little bit of a runaway. A little bit of a runaway. So you guys hate the men's team? Is that what we asked him, Jack, if he hates you guys? He said he does it. That was weird.
B
Yeah.
A
You guys hate the men's team. Just so we can clarify that and we will tell them we hate him too. For you, if you would like us to do that.
J
No, we don't hate the men's team. I. Yeah, it was true.
A
What?
J
Like Jack said, seeing him in the calf after I scored congratulated me. And then it was pretty cool after they won. All of us, I think, sat in the CAF till like 4am until our buses were leaving, just chopping it up with our medals hanging out. So it was pretty special and first time ever that men's and women's for the US have won gold together. Like, you can't write that up any. Any better. We are teams of destiny.
A
Yeah, you definitely were. And you are certainly something we will be very loud and cocky about, even though we did nothing to actually help. But I want to let you know we're going to talk a lot of shit on your behalf, Megan. We appreciate you doing that. And also I love the fact that there's simpatico amongst America's greatest athletes who just conquered the world. That's how it's supposed to be. Sports are the absolute greatest, Megan. And what you all did was showcase the greatness of the sporting world. Tone has a question for you, Megan.
C
Yeah, Megan. I asked Jack about how they felt going into overtime, and he said they actually felt pretty loose. They had the rallying cry from Mike Sullivan of American Swagger. How did you guys feel between the third and the overtime in the locker room before you went into the, you know, the golden goal situation?
J
Yeah. Honestly, I think our group got less and less nervous as time winded down, which is crazy. Like, you're getting under two minutes when we put in that goal. And I think when Hill scored that one, the just the feeling in the locker room was like, okay, we're winning this one. Like, there's no chance. We're. We're not coming away with gold here. So it was. It was pretty calm, to be honest.
A
Do you guys chirp?
J
Yeah, we chirp. We've Got some good chirpers on our team. Abby Murphy, I don't know if you've seen her game, but you would like her actually, as a player. She's fun to watch and. And she backs it up.
A
Okay, I like that. So we are talking shit. I like that we're doing that.
G
Love it.
A
We like. Okay, so we are allowed to talk. See, we're just trying to learn this all. You know, everybody. Everybody could get mad at us for everything that we say. What I would like. What I would like to happen is to openly talk shit and not offend anybody. Boston fleet about to win this entire thing. Easy. And when's your next. When's the next international tournament?
J
World championships are. They just got moved. I think they're in November now.
A
Oh, the boom. Hey, let's go.
J
Yeah.
A
Okay. Mega. Let's go and do this. Thank you so much for taking time with us today. We know you're very busy. We know you're getting back into your PWHL schedule, and we can't wait to follow along. We hope you'll come join us soon, and the next time it'll be in person. We need you to do one of these charity shots that Jack just did.
J
Don, I'll be there.
A
And please, please make it public if you guys are about to go run up a tab somewhere. Okay. Please do that. We would love to help and assist in good times. That's what we. We like a lot of good times. We like earning good times. We like being a part of good times. And we like good people having great times, which is exactly what you all would be. So please keep us updated, and thank you so much for what you did for our country.
J
Thank you. Thanks for having me. Guys.
A
Can we set a gold medal one more time? Okay. Go beat the hell out of Ottawa tomorrow night. Good luck the rest of the way. Please tell everybody we said king. Congratulations. Thank you for joining us.
J
I will. Thanks, guys.
A
Ladies and gentlemen, Megan Keller. Thought they hated each other. I was so confused.
C
I was told that I saw, like,
A
articles because I, I was ready to kill the men's team right there. Yeah. What's so funny? AJ Case, you don't want to. You don't want to do that.
F
I, I, I dabbled, but I didn't get too caught up in the whole back and forth in the political situation. I got thrown into this.
C
Because you were on a cruise ship.
F
I tried to, I tried to, to bathe in the, the gold, you know?
A
So what I've learned in the American Canada disagreements, I somehow Find my way in the middle. And the buying of the tab felt like just sure. This is an obvious move. This is what should happen. Thought somebody else was going to do it. That obviously turns into me being a sexist racist. Everything like that, which is so absurd, really.
D
Yeah.
A
It's really cool that that happens. Happens by a small amount of people that we cannot let.
C
They're having a bit of a melter.
A
Yeah. A lot. Basically every day of their life seemingly looking for melters to a bit of a melter. But we would like to let them know that you will never outweigh the happiness and the unity that sports bring. So you can all eat.
D
Yeah. And it's still. It's still coming today. There's going to be a.
F
Which is fine.
D
Don't believe what you heard. Okay. Make no mistake, the men and women,
G
women of Team usa, they hate each other.
I
Okay.
A
I don't care what they just said.
D
I don't care. They hate each other. They hate each other.
C
Jack and Megan, they're political pawns. Don't believe a word they say.
A
Well, how about this though? I like the fact that like learning this from. We're learning about the women's hockey team as the Olympics happen.
F
Sure.
A
You know, like. And also we'll follow them after how this went. This pwhl. We've seen highlights. We learned about it. Women's hockey is very.
B
They got it.
A
It is a incredible sport. How about them saying, we hate Canada too? Yeah, yeah. And the men, like, it's very intense right now. Not a tummy sticks happening. It's an actual.
F
It's great.
A
I think it's great for the sport,
F
it's great for moving forward. That there is some real heat between them.
A
Yeah, I agree. And you know, Sidney Crosby gets hurt in the Olympics and he's out for four weeks.
C
Those scumbags.
A
Sidney Crosby, obviously a goat. He'll probably heal quick. That guy looks really cool right there. I don't know who he is, but he's wearing a jacket.
C
He is cool.
A
But when Sidney Crosby gets hurt, okay. I immediately look in the mirror and I say, hey, you, me, one of the loudest people about these NHL owners being dipshits whenever they ban the NHL players from the Olympics. Now granted, I do think if you see what happened with the Olympic hockey and people getting interested in horizon hockey and everything, my point was pretty solid at the time when I was very loud and we were clipping it and sending it to the NHL saying, hey, this is the most short sighted decision you have ever Made. There is a lot of people that we know in the sports world who don't watch hockey because they didn't come from a hockey town. And whenever the Olympics are, they force. They watch TJ Oshi doing this thing. They know. They remember these moments. The NHL banned their players from going to the Olympics. I thought it was very stupid. And they're like, well, we're paying them millions and millions of dollars. And then they go over there. If they were to get hurt, what does that mean for our team? So as I watch Sidney Crosby get bent like an Auntie Anne's pretzel. Okay. On the ice, as a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, I immediately go, why is he even playing in this? Which is certainly what the ownership was also thinking. I think a lot of people were. But overall, these international games that don't have a lot any money on the line, the second. The sense of pride that comes from it is a necessity for society, I think. And hockey does it. I think basketball does it as well. Whenever we talk about these Olympics, there's some team sports that happen that bring us all together, and hockey is certainly one of them. And even if people don't have a clue what's going on, there's people. I've heard Stephen A. Smith say this before, and I think, obviously he's a very intelligent person, so he's continued to learn it all. He said, what I know about hockey, the puck is black. Okay? That's what Stephen A. Said. And then there's other. The people that are like. They're ice. They do the thing like people that don't know hockey, right? And then they watch that and they're like, wait a minute. This sport's amazing. And that gold medal game between Caitlin and usa, both of them going to overtime with the intensity that it had and the rivalry that it had. Great for hockey. And we would like to continue to pound the drum like we have, because I'm from Pittsburgh Hockey Town. Hockey is awesome, and this is a good thing. Everything that's about to happen, I. I think for the pwhl, which we certainly did not know enough about, and then the NHL, I think on the following of this, I think we got really good things happening for the sport. I think international play really matters and showcases that type of shit. And we can't be losing Sidney Crosby. No.
C
Anyone else would have been fine.
A
Yeah, I'd be a. Okay with literally anybody. Yeah. Just Sid. We can't. As soon as it happens to Sid, I just think to myself, why is this guy. Oh. Cause I Wear. And then you think hockey's in a great sp. Great spot right now. And it's only going to continue to do that. Thank you to Megan for joining us once again. Offered. Offered.
D
Yep.
A
And she just like, I can't miss more. I love the answer. I love the answer.
B
It's the definition of hockey. It's like that's why the Olympics are so cool. Cuz if you're not someone who follows hockey, once you start watching Michigan and learning everything about it. Like Jack, he's losing two teeth on the ground and then picking them up and then continuing to play. You know, Abby Murphy, like Megan just mentioned, like talking to Canada, they're being real heat in sports. Like we always talk about an NFL. You, you almost don't want the jersey swap. You want that Seahawks beef. Yeah. You want the Seahawks all in on themselves. You kind of want that beef between. Screw everybody else, it's just us. Bunker mentality. And hockey has that in every single team in the NHL. And then when it gets to country, it's just amplified even more just because of those rivalries.
A
Yeah. And I shout out to all of them the amount of effort and time and commitment it takes to do the
C
hockey from 5 years old on at
A
4am in the morning. It's an early morning sport at 4am in THE MORNING. Parents. He talked about his parents and they're driving his. I mean, Phil's in the middle of this with his kids. He's got tired of playing hockey. It's like ice time comes at a certain time. The amount of work you have to be to be in good enough shape to be able to play hockey. Because that is just like literally sprinting the entire time. It's such a cool sport, such a great sport. And obviously whenever we're the best in the world at it, it's better.
D
Yeah.
A
Okay. Just like everything else.
D
Yeah.
A
Now. Yeah. Let's move on. I don't. I didn't want to say like, like if, if you guys see me getting murdered out there, which is going to happen because Jack was here and Megan wasn't. If you guys could please just maybe respond to this and say that we. Because as soon as Megan tells us, I can't because like I did. Morning skate. Didn't want to put it into her life. Okay. Didn't want to put it into her life because it's not her fault at all. She's doing the right thing. Just being like, hey, man, I'm going to die here. You know, I'll set up a bot.
C
I'LL set up a bot that responds everybody.
A
They're going to get a few of them, I think gonna need a few of them. There's gonna be a lot of people coming after us for this. And I would like to let me and Keller know. I can't wait till they tell us where they're headed.
C
We should just take the Jimmy's approach and just say off.
A
So that was one of my training talk. I looked. I looked on my phone while I was going to the bathroom.
C
They've done it twice now this past week.
A
I think. I think they've done a lot more.
C
Oh yeah, no, I agree.
A
But I think they've been letting a lot. And shot the Jimmy's, by the way, the best.
C
I mean they did ruin a lot.
F
Yeah.
A
They had the Cicada parade and they're
C
from that city, but yeah.
A
And if you were to learn their story, which I think the United States Business Bureau is like looking into their story. Dad starts a restaurant, an immigrant comes over, dies while passes away while two boys are in high school. And then they're tasked with carrying on the business as high schoolers. And then the way they go about giving back to the community and building a business and then employing mom is working for them and building a bakery and then becoming a part of the Baltimore like fabric basically of the entirety. It's like American dream story happening.
C
Yeah.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
And then it's like, oh, we want to attack this people though. It's like, I don't know if we're attacking the right things. Okay. I don't know if we're attacking the right things. But I would like let everybody know the Jimmy's boys are built for it.
C
Yes, they are. Minidonkus.
A
That's not his name.
B
It's minute.
A
That's not his name. I don't like how Greek is you guys are. I don't like how green.
C
Oh, don't you bippity Boppity.
A
Hey, I'm 0.01% of the time. Jimmy's keep. Keep that Twitter finger rolling, bro.
C
Magadonkalis.
A
Just let it make a dous. I'm sick of everything you guys are doing right now. Ladies and gentlemen, join Andy's his son Milanakis. They do have the greatest crab cakes.
F
Isn't he like 60 years old?
B
Be on my head.
A
Melanakis. I think he's been. I don't know.
F
He wasn't a kid.
A
Sorry.
D
40 when he was a rapper.
A
He was a rapper.
B
Pees on my head. But don't call me A B head.
D
Yeah.
C
It was one of the best bars you've ever.
A
We just looked it up. Which, by the way, it makes sense, because this might be the case, but don't do it. He's 50. Congrats to him living out. Hey, Andy. I don't think any of us still doing it. I assume Andy Millinakis still has his spouse still bringing. He does not. Jimmy Seafood in Baltimore.
D
No.
A
Okay. What Jimmy Seafood in Baltimore owns Famous is the greatest crab cake on Earth. They ship nationwide, and it arrives like it was just there somehow. And their bakery's outrageous.
C
They got good steak, but they still stink.
A
I bought 100 shots there walking into it. The first time Met the Met John and me, he walked over. You know what?
E
Yeah.
A
Just go ahead and do this, brother. He's like, you got it. Let's go. Let's go. Have a good time. And ever since then, I have drawn inspiration from them sitting in the pocket and building something that's impossible. I like that a lot of people are learning about them right now, strictly because they are being exactly who they've been this entire time. This is the greatest country on Earth. Let us tell you our American dream story. And if you believe and buy in and have a good team, magic can happen. And if you want to talk shit, fuck you.
C
Yeah.
A
War ready all the time. Yeah, all the time. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a man who might be drawing up the war plans at some point. Yeah, this guy's a wizard.
D
Yep.
A
This guy's a super genius. This guy's super bowl champion, obviously. But now defensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes, ladies and gentlemen, Matt, Patricia, everybody. Come on. I like that. I like the Travis stuff. Okay. I went the wrong way.
B
How you doing, coach? It's an honor.
A
I mean, sweet. Good. I don't want to judge. I don't want to judge him, but he did go the wrong way. But he did above everybody. Hey, what's up, coach? Good to see you. Good to see you, coach. Thank you for joining us, man.
G
Yeah, thanks for having me on. You guys are so good to me. I appreciate it.
B
Let me.
D
Come on.
A
And we're big fans of yours.
G
You guys are the best.
A
So you have been good to us.
G
Thank you.
A
You've been very good to us. And we're big fans of yours.
G
Well, I appreciate it.
A
You're a big football guy. Obviously. I knew about you for a long time because your relationship with Adam Vinateri, way back in the day.
G
Congratulations to Adam. I'm so excited.
A
Yeah. Congratulations. To Adam Vinatieri.
B
He.
A
He just killed a. Sent me a picture of this thing. A. An oscillated turkey down there.
H
Yes.
G
Mexico.
A
Right, Right.
G
It was unbelievable.
A
He's amazing.
C
What kind of turkey?
A
O Turkey. It looks like a peacock a little bit. I don't. So it's not.
C
It's not like a gobble, gobble turkey.
A
I think it does gobble gobble, but, boy, that thing got a little bit of shine that all turkeys don't got.
B
Peacock.
C
Is that what they eat for Thanksgiving?
A
Downer? Well, good question. And he was downer when I think a lot of things.
D
Yeah.
A
I was like, did you think about picking? Oh, yeah, yeah. And he would, by the way. Yeah, that'll be.
G
You know what I mean? He'd be a tough one to mess with because he's going to. To, you know, he shot a few things, so he's be all right.
A
And he would. I think he would rather die than lose.
C
And he does like to hunt the most dangerous game.
A
That is. He's like, yeah, I. I guess this would be a good question for you. All those years in New England. Yeah. Do you think the separator was that everybody on that team, and maybe it was Bill's ability or maybe it was the team's ability. Just so incredibly competitive at everything and buy in at everything. Like, Vinatieri is the type of guy, and if he was playing checkers or chess against you and you were about to win, accidentally flipped table. Were you gonna win? Maybe we didn't finish the game like
G
that type of competitive all the time, so. And I used to. My first year in New England, I ran the special teams cards. You know, Brad Sioux is our special teams coordinator. And, you know, that's how Adam and I got really close because you'd be standing in the kickoff. Special teams, look, you know, they're trying to get the return set up, and Adam's like, all right, I'm gonna boot this one here. And like, he's just trying to scheme up to beat beat, you know, the kickoff return unit. And then all of a sudden, like, you know, Rodney Harrison walks in and he, like, taps some young guy, goes, get out. You know, and then so now he's in the huddle, and I'm like, oh, this is about to get live right now.
A
Yeah.
G
So I'm holding up the card and he's talking to Adam, and Adam, like, he's probably supposed to keep a kick it, like, deep left. He goes deep right. Rodney goes right through everybody blows up the whole thing. He's yelling at the return team. This is Gar. You better get a new return.
A
I'm like, this is throwing up. So let's talk about that. I think that culture, obviously, up in New England, the Patriot way, you're a massive piece of that. You have a lot of success. You got trophies, you got rings because of it, and one of the greatest defensive calls in the history of the sport.
E
Thank you.
A
You take that and you join Ohio State here. Obviously, there's other stops in the road, but you're now at Ohio State.
G
Yeah.
A
What do you. Did you feel like there was a professionalism, I guess, to that Ohio State defense? Because we saw what just happened yesterday, and it's outrageous.
G
Backer hood.
A
Yeah, backer hood.
F
Well, there's got a different.
A
They're on a different planet, but they're. They're openly talking about how you have assisted them through this entire combine process. Now, granted, I don't know if you're teaching them how to run.
G
You can definitely. I can. You can tell the athleticism that I have. So obviously, I did all those things.
A
But can you tell me a little bit about if New England and Ohio State, like, compare to each other or what messages you're delivering to the boys to get them ready for an NFL situation? Like, how is that kind of been good for you or bad for you, maybe, as you've taken this?
G
No, it's really been great. Certainly, you got to start with, you know, Coach Day and the culture and kind of the guys and the. And the people that he has in the building, you know, and certainly on the defensive side, you felt it right away when you walk in the meeting room, and certainly the linebackers, but Caleb Downs and just so many great guys, kids that, you know, you're coaching. So you feel that competitiveness and you feel that culture of just competing every single day. But it was, you know, when I walked in there and saw those two linebackers and. And you're like, one of those. I know.
D
Yeah.
E
Yeah.
G
I'm like, I know what to do with these guys. Like, what, you guys give up one
A
first down in, like, four weeks.
E
Yeah, yeah.
G
You know, and that's always the funniest is when, you know, defense you're playing, you don't want to give up anything, Right. And then maybe you make a couple substitutions, maybe you're up by a lot of scores. And now at first. And I'm like a lunatic because we just gave up one first down in the game and we ruined it.
A
Yeah, that's funny. Dan Lanning, what was that in the playoff game?
C
He put his stars back in.
A
Yeah, they were up a bunch.
B
And jmu, we did.
A
Took his starters out, and then all of a sudden it was going bad. He was like, nope, this is not how this shit's going.
G
That's right.
A
Get you boys.
G
We had the same thing. I think it was later in the season. We hadn't given up 100 yard rusher in, like 10 games. And so it's. It's getting close. And I'm looking at the scoreboard and I'm looking at, you know, the head coach going, are we. You know, can we get that other group back out there? Not really about stats, but let's just
A
take guys back on. Yeah. History matters, though, Coach.
E
We know that.
A
Go ahead, A.J.
F
yeah, I guess, Coach. What were you able to, like, you got to Ohio State and, you know, the expectations there. I knew Coach Day says all the time, hey, we can't lose. We can't have a bad day. You came in, your defense just off the charts from the jump and also replacing a ton of studs right now, Obviously you have other studs in line, but you don't know what they can do yet, really. I guess. What were you able to do?
E
How.
F
Like, schematically, with your defense, how was it able to be so successful? And how do these guys, how do they take to it to where they were able to execute so well.
G
Yeah. And give credit to them, you know, the players, when I got there, certainly change is always hard, you know, and we had lost all those great players the year before, and a lot of guys, the interesting thing was they just hadn't played, you know, they didn't have the game snaps. So really, through the spring, I was like, all right, we're going to teach conceptually, you know, we're going to kind of talk about structures, whether it's coverage in front. And it was almost like I kind of, like, tricked him a little bit. I was like, oh, it's really not that much. It's just this front. It's just this coverage. And then by the time we got to the end of the spring, you know, when I kind of listed it, I was like, all right, look, we can move this with this and kind of put all the pieces together, you know, like I do like a chessboard. And then you just saw their eyes light up, like, oh, wait, we just learned a whole bunch and didn't even. Didn't even realize it, you know, and that's what made the multiplicity that we were able to use throughout the course of the season. And it really was just, you know, figuring out what do the guys do well, Right? So it's not about scheme, it's not about plays. It's really about what do they do well and how do I put them in that position so that they can go play fast and aggressive. And certainly you got a guy like Caleb Downs who can do everything. So it's like. Like, hey, we can put them here, we can put them there. Over there, we can have a disguise and go here, Arvell or Sonny and kind of just keep mixing those pieces. And I think they just. They're competitive and they're super smart, super great, and they just loved it. So it really grew from there. I think people ask like, oh, is that what you ran in the Wingo? I'm like, well, no, it was really just the Buckeye defense. That was our defense that grew by based on the guys that we had last year.
A
Okay, so everybody was saying, you're NFL guy figuring out college offenses. This is like what happens happens here. You get Matt Patricia taking on college offenses. This is what's going to happen. Do you think that your guys are prepared for an NFL defense with the shit that you were calling? Because that's all they kept saying is like, this is an NFL defense playing against this. And then you got 4, 4, 4, 4 across the board. And Caleb down to Josh Chapman, who is a teammate of mine at Indianapolis Colts, nose tackle, D tackle. He's now working at Alabama. When Caleb was freshman, I think it was his first game, we were down there checking. Chapman came out to me, me and Chap still tight. He's one of the greatest human beings in a gigantic, deep old Southern guy to, like, be loved. And we asked him, and he was like, gold jacket. Soon as he got here, that guy is a gold jacket guy. So obviously you had incredible talent at Ohio State. You're going to have that. But do you think with the way you were playing and the shit you were doing, that the transition for them into an NFL defense is going to. I don't want to say easy, but, like, do you think these guys, because of running your defense, are in a much better position maybe than other places?
G
I mean, I really hope so. You know, I mean, that's the whole goal. I say it all the time. Listen, those two linebackers are 6, 5, 6, 4. I'm like, you're going to get in the NFL. Someone's going to, you know, you know, whether I'm here or not, it doesn't really matter. You're going to get in there. But how do you stay in the NFL?
D
Right?
G
Because we've all seen that, you know, guys that either go early or guys that don't even get drafted at all, it's such a different game. So my whole thing to them was like, we're just going to teach a little bit differently. We're going to teach more conceptually. We're going to learn, you know, the bigger picture. And I think that is one thing that'll help them as they, you know, have to go into those new locker rooms and see those new schemes. And right when the season ended, you know, I told all those kids, I said, listen, we're gonna. We're gonna go on a schedule. We're gonna meet once a week. We're gonna Zoom, we're gonna review all the schemes. I said, I'm gonna put you through the combine interviews. We're gonna, you know, meet individually. We're gonna talk about, you know, your workouts and your drills. And I think I said, you. You have to get an advantage now. You have to be ready to go. And they loved it. Like, they. We just met every week. And, you know, you miss them, right? Like, it season ends like it's over all of a sudden, and like, you miss seeing all their faces. So it was great to get on zoom and just keep that relationship going. And Arvel, last night when he got done, we were talking and he's like, man, he's like, I didn't really realize how much we had done and learned. And, you know, that's all you want. You just want them to have that chance to be successful.
A
Yeah, it feels like that's probably good for recruiting, too.
B
Yeah, that might help.
A
Now, I know you guys are in Indiana's Big Ten right now, so you guys are gonna have to go back to the drawing board.
B
Yeah. Coach Patriots fan. So thank you for your service.
A
Thank you. Thank you, man. Thank you, Coach.
B
You're very much beloved up there still. But going from the pros to college, was there anything that surprised you? Does it feel much more professional, NFL type in college? And was that something that going into it you're aware of, or is it still. Still, you know, two separate games? You know, still football and football, but the level isn't there just yet in college.
G
Yeah, I think, you know, on field, probably my biggest is the hashes. Like, what did we do to the hashes in college football, it's so different. That spacing, that was probably my biggest adjustment.
A
Harder to kick in college than Is the NFL.
G
I mean, can we just put it down the middle and just like, you know.
A
Yeah. Why is electronic.
G
I mean, that.
C
That's pretty.
G
I like it. It's pretty good. We're nice and even.
H
Just.
A
Yeah, yeah.
G
Set up. But that was the biggest difference schematically for me. But, you know, the game really kind of walking into that room, that. That joyful sort of like love of the game, youthful, maybe innocent love of the game that I hadn't seen in a long time, you felt that right away, you know, especially the young kids. And then you realize how young, you know, some of them are.
E
You're.
G
I'm like, how old are you again? And they're like, you know, I'm 18, 19. I'm like, all right. My kids are this. I'm like, wow. This is.
B
Had Brandon Graham the year before, and. And he was 50 years old.
G
Well, I walked into my first meeting this year, and I'm looking at one of the kids, and I'm like, man, I'm like, is your.
E
Is your dad Duke?
G
And he's like, yeah. I'm like, I coached your dad. I look at the kid next, I'm like, is your dad mowing? He's like, I'm like, I coached your dad, too. I was like, what the heck is going on?
A
This guy's grandpa. Coach. Look at your old ass, dude.
G
You know, back in the day, I used to be like, you know, I'd get gray hairs on my beard and be like, all right, this was Drew Brees. This one's Peyton. You know, now I'm like, all right, this is just kids. They just all sprouted out nice and quick.
A
To has a question for you.
C
Don't you just talk about playing against Drew Brees, Peyton Manning in here. We watched you guys take on Fernando Mendoza, and you hit first play right in the mouth, and we're like, holy. He's going to be out. His brother's going to be whatever. He didn't. He came back in. What makes Mendoza so good? What are the Raiders going to get if he. He's going number one? Why is he the number one? Best quarterback in this track.
G
Probably a former quarterback in that organization.
A
That's probably like the last three, you know. You know, what would he like about him, you think?
D
Yes.
G
Yeah. I would say that this going back the previous summer, the pace. Peyton Manning passing academy. Manning passing academy went down to that. And I saw him, he was at Cal, and I remember spending time with those maybe just checking quarterbacks out just
A
in case, you know.
G
Trying to get ahead, you know, Coach.
F
Yeah.
G
So I remember spending time with him and just loved his energy. But really, how smart. And, you know, I'm always looking at how big guys are, and I was like, you know, know, he's tall. He's, you know, can stand in the pocket because a lot of the guys are just. You can't. Can't see over the offensive lineman, you know. But one of the things you notice right away was just how tough, like, how tough he is, like, in the pocket, taking those hits over and over. So we definitely wanted to hit him early as hard as we could. And Kaden Curry.
A
Yeah, Kaden Curry, who worked on Indianapolis.
I
Kid.
G
Yeah, man, he great. Unbelievable kid. A smart. He's just a ball player, right? So he goes right off the edge. We kind of. Of had an idea what maybe was coming, and he. And I was like, wow. Like, that was. I don't think he's. And then he got. And then he gets up and you're like, oh,
A
that was our best shot right there.
G
It's like those Terminator movies. You're like, you're good. You're not good. You're like, you're not okay anymore. So I think his pocket presence, the way that he moves in the pocket, I think that maybe the Raiders would like that. And the way that he can see downfield, you know, he keeps his eyes down.
A
Okay. So everybody talks about the rpo. Rpo, rpo. He was number one in third down, number one in fourth down, number, number one in red zone.
G
Yes.
A
He can make the throws. Like, did you watch the film of the game in the Big Ten afterwards? And was there some things that he did that you were like, I did not expect him to be able to do this against us because he was doing against your defense that we had not seen. Really. I mean, old buddy, deep shot down the right side. Charlie Becker, like, that was abnormal against you guys.
G
Yeah, we. But he. Becker has been. He had been coming on and coming like, you know, big catch radius guy. So we certainly knew. I mean. I mean, we did give up, like 13 points. Defensively, they were averaging 45 or something.
A
But, yeah, you guys were kind of ass in that championship. I'm just waiting for it.
G
But I would say this, you know, watching him live and the arm velocity and the ball coming out of the pocket was maybe something you can't pick up on tape. You knew the accuracy, you knew his vision, but the ball speed and him able to really get that in those tight windows and those shots that he made. At the end.
A
And every ball is a. I think his hands must be gigantic because every ball is. Yeah, it's uptight, I think.
G
I think it might also be this building a little.
B
I have.
G
I have history in buildings. Right. And so there might have been another ball on the sideline. Same idea. End of a game against the Giants where I'm like, what are like, you lose a game.
A
So, yeah, it's first down football. Not in basketball. Yeah, it was crazy. We're down, down there hammered drunk now. I love you guys. I want to let you know. I love you guys. I know. It was crazy over here in Indiana, dude.
C
It was.
A
It was like. It was a crazy thing that was happening and it was. It was a freight train. Can you tell me a little bit about Signetti, your thoughts on kind of him as a person that's been around a lot of the great coaches who operate in different fashions. What did you kind of learn about Sig and have you really learned into who he is as a person or as a coach at all?
G
I think just from afar. I don't know him personally, but, you know, just admiring how he handled his team and, you know, he certainly breeds confidence into those guys. And a lot of times, as we know, in the game of football, especially with young players, if they can just get that little bit of confidence, you know, you see that light go on and then they believe and they get that belief and then they're rolling. And you felt that. You felt that in that team, they were tough enough mentally tough enough. They had a game earlier in the year, I think it was Penn State.
D
Right.
G
And went down and were able to drive. Yeah. Kind of do all that stuff. So you knew it was going to be that 60 minute type of game.
A
Tell me about saying seeing him in practice, what he's like, he throws a good ball.
G
He does. He's a great kid. And probably early on we were so by the time we hit training camp, I was like, okay, we're spinning the wheel and see what. What he's got. So trying to win camp a little bit, but he's so compace. He's. I would go pre practice, you know, they're stretching and. And Sunny would be on one side, you know, and then couple the defensive guys be on. And I'd walk up and be like, hey, Sonny, what are we looking at? You want to go double mug? Do you want to go five down, six down? And just kind of. But Julian was like, he just wanted to go compete. And I love to watch his development Reading coverages, seeing those different looks and seeing fronts, and, you know, hopefully that's what kind of got him a little bit of confidence. Got him going early in the season, and he was great.
B
Having Jeremiah Smith, too. Is he, as an NFL guy, going to call college? Seeing Jeremiah Smith on the field, do you immediately think like, oh, 2008 Randy Moss.
E
Yeah.
G
I mean, you immediately go, can he pass rush?
B
Because he's.
G
I'm like, hey, good for you on offense.
A
But, like, I think, can I borrow third down? Yeah, let me borrow him for a
G
little while because he's huge.
E
Huge.
G
But. And then we had, you know, obviously Tate.
B
Yeah.
G
On the other side, and you're going, all right, what do we do now? So he is.
A
Is.
G
Jeremiah is unbelievable. Player, person, all of it. I'm. I'm super excited. We need to win some games next year, but then for the future, super excited for him. He's going to be great.
A
Indiana's still here, but.
B
Reloaded.
A
Reloaded. Go ahead.
C
No, you were just talking about competing in practice. Are you excited to compete with Artie Smith?
G
I mean, obviously Arthur's great.
A
You know, couple NFL guys.
G
Yeah. Going head to head. You know what's been fun, Just him coming in and seeing his. His kind of excitement for, you know, the college game and watching him look at our guys and figure out, what are we going to do next year? And his offense installation. So I'm sure he'll probably get pretty cranked up here.
A
NFL guys going to college. You guys are singing voice memos to recruit guys.
B
Are you still doing that?
A
Do I like how.
G
Yeah, I don't think I'm singing, man. I just.
A
We'll see how good the player is.
G
Yeah, wait till that first time I do. You're gonna be like on the phone right away. You're gonna be like, hey, you said you were. What is this, Dan? No one wants to see that. That's not.
F
Recruiting's changed a little.
A
Yeah. Can you tell me about that? Because obviously Bill goes to college and now you got Artie and you're in college and there's more NFL guys coming down to college, I think. Then there was old school college guys that were like, get me the hell out of this athlete.
D
Yeah.
A
Coach Saban I think would even be like, I. I've done enough here. I think it's a different game now. I'm going to go try to do something else. Can you tell me about the current college model as an NFL guy that maybe either makes it easier for the transition of NFL coaches going Back to college or if it's just more inducive for it nowadays than it was before. Like, what are your thoughts on that?
G
Yeah, I think one of the things at college that became really interesting for both, you know, probably Bill and myself was just the ability to actually build a roster fast, you know, because of the portals and that way that that was all working. You could can change guys out. We had a big portal year this past year too. I think we had 50 new guys coming in, including the portal guys.
A
So it's wild.
G
It's wild. But you can, you can get those players a lot faster and be competitive a lot quicker. So I think that part of it for the NFL guys are obviously intriguing from that standpoint.
A
So you guys still just got a money train coming over there in Ohio State. I saw some stuff. So I see. I saw you. You and Bob Carpenter is Cruise. So you guys raising money. It does feel like Ohio State, though will always be a place that it's like, hey, Ohio State's always going to be a wagon. Ohio States are always going to be a wagon. You going to college had to be a place like Ohio State, I assume.
G
Yeah, definitely. You know, you want to be at the highest level, the most competitive level and you know, love to coach, love to teach. We're competitive though. We want to win. So being lucky enough to be at a place like Ohio State where you can do that was. Yeah, it was kind of a nice. A no brainer.
A
That is.
F
What's it been like? It's been cool to see you. I could bring your family around. It seems like you're. I don't know, it just seems fun for you and your relationship with all the players. You see you hugging pre game and during, like I just seem like you have a great relationship. It seems like, I don't know, just a little different. Different atmosphere for you.
G
Yeah.
F
As a coach. And second side note, I just. What is it your little band says? Crush everything. I just want to explain that a little bit.
C
Yeah, that's very perceptive, A.J. one of my.
G
That's actually one of my military buddies that started a company and that was kind of just his. His mantra. Every single branch, every single day. He would be the Navy.
E
Navy.
A
Yep, yep.
G
Some of those special, special guys that would do a lot of things overseas to help us out.
A
Oh, not an otter, but a seal. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They do crush everything pretty big. Hey, I don't know what's going on right now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
G
I'm tweet something's going that's actually where the beard started. People. I told that story kind of just recently. Recently, like, everyone asked about the beard, and it was those guys, you know, such a special community of men, you know, that would go. And you know how it is. Like, you just get a phone call at 2 o' clock in the morning. It's like, I gotta go. And you're kind of like, yeah, okay, I'll see you when I see. You know, you just don't know. And one of my buddies who was going over and he just called and he's like, hey, I gotta go. But, you know, they're always watching, right? You know, they're always kind of. And they were big Patriots fans. I was at New England, and they're always checking the scores, and that's kind of one of the ways they lift their spirits up. And they would all come back and they'd have these huge beards. And I was like, all right, well, I'm not. I'm not shaving until you get back. This is 2000, actually 2011. We played the super bowl here. And so it was a longer season for us. And by the end of the year, my beard was. It was. I remember. Yeah, it was out there. But that was just so those guys knew, you know, when they were overseas and they were checking home, checking scores and seeing us. Hey, man, we're thinking about you guys, and just get home as fast as you can. So that's actually where the beard started.
A
That's amazing. I think it's a good look for you.
G
Yeah.
A
By the way, not only good look for you, I see your O picking. Yeah, Slim, you do. You look good, dude.
G
Thank you. You know, sleep is actually. It actually works. It's actually good. Working out apparently is important. Eating right is fairly, you know, Taco Bell at 11 o' clock at night is not good for in the moment.
B
Pretty good.
G
Listen, listen. Nothing better than like, here, go buy out whatever's left.
D
But.
A
So I had some. I had some booze last night. First time, long time. Did some boozing last night. Good times. Jesus. Brandon, to you, obviously, last night was awesome. You have, I don't know, however many drinks you have. And then all of a sudden the next decision is like, well, I'm kind of hungry right now.
F
And then you scroll in doordash.
A
Yeah. But then there's pizza available and that
C
rolls into the next day.
A
Yeah, then the pizza. And then I wake up this morning, there's waffles up here. I'm like, I'm hungover.
C
And it's like, I had waffles for breakfast. I might as well eat like shit.
G
I'm already in it. So let's just.
A
It was literally like now it's Saturday. Isn't it crazy though how like one decision can like kind of change everything? Then you got to be tough enough to make that the opposite decision.
G
That's it. You got to get. You got to get back into that structure, man. You got to get.
A
I don't know what I'm going to get there because right now, I'm telling you, this body was not meant at this age to drink what I drank last night. Okay. It is. It is not getting that sauna. Yeah.
C
Sweat it out, brother.
D
There it is.
A
I'm on under 175 degrees.
C
Right at it.
A
Okay. Yeah, I need to get it. You doing any of that, cuz, you know?
G
Absolutely. Sauna, sauna, boxing. A lot of boxing.
A
Virtual reality or actual?
G
Actual.
A
With who?
G
Dudes or no, back, you know. So go to class facility. Yeah, I used to go to class. A great place. Would go box in the morning, like five o'.
F
Clock.
A
And what do you got? A big overhand right. What's the big plan?
G
I mean, the one I can actually throw hands. That's kind of not. Not real fighting though. Because the funniest thing is I used to do that when I was little at the Y. And then I got, you know, headgear, the whole thing. And then I got hit and I was like, I don't like this anymore.
A
I'm like, I got.
G
I had headgear on and I was like, I am ringing right now.
B
It's like, it makes it worse.
G
I'm not taking the headgear off.
A
I was scared.
G
So Guardian cap always just kept in with the. The workout because it was so much fun. But you know, just hitting, hitting the bag kind of working that. But we. One time we were coaching late, so, you know, gets late, you're like, hey, check out these reality goggles. You can, you can box. You can get, you know, do the boxing.
F
Oh, yeah.
A
So we're thrilling the fight. Yeah.
G
So we're in there and you're watching your buddy throw these haymaker. And I'm like, if we ever got
D
a fight, we're dead.
G
Like, we. This is the worst thing I've ever seen right now. You know, I'm like, so we think so. No, man.
A
No Thrill of the fight on meta. Yeah, you should get in.
G
I gotta check that one out.
A
Yeah, because it you. Everything about it is. They got the. I think it's called the physics.
B
Yeah, the physics.
A
I believe it's called the physics. They have the physics figured out where you're certainly fighting like a robot or a series of robots.
G
Right.
A
But they are actually hitting you, and there's real movement. The head keeps up with it. And right hand does land.
G
Really?
A
And left hand lands and like, it feels. Yeah, it's. It was my work workout for. Anytime I had a wrestling match, I would be in the virtual reality.
B
Chuck Pagana almost died.
C
Yeah, we almost killed.
G
Hasn't he been through enough? Can we just
A
try?
G
We got to take care of him.
B
Come on.
C
That was our fault.
F
He get three five minute rounds. Like, he wouldn't quit.
G
Five minute rounds?
A
Yeah. He on air. Five on air.
G
We do, like, right now. We'll in the facility, even Ohio State. C.J. and I will go in.
J
We'll.
A
We'll do a minute.
G
We'll do like a minute rounds. I'm, like, dead tired.
F
Yeah, Chuck was.
A
There's Chuck. He's fighting.
C
You can see him in the bottom, right.
A
That's Ugly Joe right there. That's Ugly Joe. That's the first fighter you take on. And I'll tell you what.
G
Ugly Joe, Kid Joe.
A
Yeah, he's got a real chin. This. This guy just go down. Yeah, but Chuck actually looks good.
G
He's got some food. No, not that.
A
Chuck's Italian. You get it, right?
H
Yeah.
J
Gotcha.
A
So he been in there before. Ugly Joe did almost kill him at the Thunderdome. And you're right, leukemia didn't get him. He had a couple broken bags.
B
He sent us his peloton, by the way, 407 straight weeks. Yeah.
A
Yeah, he's a legend, dog. Yeah, he absolutely is. All right, coach, last question for you here from an Iowa Hawkeye, Ty Schmidt.
H
Yeah.
D
You mentioned, like, when you went back to college, it had to be a place like Ohio State, and everything gets so overblown in terms of. Hey, the worst part for NFL guys is, like, you have to recruit.
B
Recruit.
D
You have to recruit your entire team every single year. Especially at a place like Ohio State where you're getting, you know, 45 star guys. Do you have to be cognizant of that at all? Like, I mean, obviously this year you got four guys who might get picked in the first round. But is it tough when it's like, hey, if I don't get this guy some burn, like, there's a good. And he could be. He's just a little raw right now, but he could be, you know, an All American, a couple Years. But if we don't get him out there, like, he's going to transfer. Like, is that something that you constantly have to kind of mess around with, or is that one of those things where it's like, if you get too caught up in that, then you're kind of just yourself?
G
Yeah, that's a really great question. I think for us, what we really tried to do was just get the young guys out there because it's important for their development. Not necessarily worry about, you know, somebody not getting playing time, but they've got to go get the reps. You know, you just. That's the only way you can get better. You know, for us in our sport, it's different than basketball, baseball. Like, you play games in basketball and baseball and can get better. We only have so many opportunities, so it's either practice and then those live game reps. If you can get those young guys in, maybe over a course of four or five weeks, you can build up 50, 60 reps so that later in the season, which now college football is much longer and that guy has to go play. He's had that game experience. So it's more of that, I think is really important for us to make sure those guys are ready to go if that happens.
A
How tough is it for you NFL people to just realize that the Big Ten is. It's the one now?
G
Yeah, I mean, it's not tough for me. I'm in the Big Ten. I think I'm all right, you know.
A
Yeah. But your friends in the ones that are walking around here, because I think it's hard for media people to buy, like, I think it's hard for some media people to buy into Mendoza because he was Indiana, he was Cal. So it's just like your natural stubbornness
C
is winning the combine.
A
Yeah, it's like, I'm not doing that.
G
I think. I think for the NFL, I would say this for how many ever years, 20, whatever plus years I was in it, you know, the NFL is not full of five stars. It's not full of. You know what I mean? It's full of two stars, three stars. Guys that battle, guys that compete. Certainly on New England, we had our starting right guard, Steve Neal. Never played. College football legend, right. One of the best guys ever. Amazing, but never played. We had Chris Hogan played lacrosse, like, so I think when you get to the NFL, everyone's just realizing it's what you do in the NFL more than anything.
A
Chris Hogan, I think handball, getting ready for the Olympics, really?
G
Is he really.
A
I think that's great. So he is. He has sent a couple messages to a couple different people around me. Okay. I try to be very difficult to get to. I don't. I don't check dms. I don't really. I. I try to be very hard to get to.
G
No, you're great. You text me back right away.
A
And if I don't, just know you're not the only one. Okay. And I did see it. Okay. I did see it.
G
I kind of have the same philosophy. What's good? And then everyone gets on me because I don't have an iPhone.
E
Right.
G
So I'm still. Yeah, that's it.
A
I get to, like, you're green. Actually, I will never respond, but I think he's getting into handball. I got numerous people that are like, hey, you guys have talked about handball on the show a lot because we've said that if America was put together, an actual team of handball, Sorry, world, we're winning another one. Oh, yeah. And that's, like, how it is. Could you imagine Lamar Stafford?
D
Yeah.
A
Any of these wide receivers that have can't. Like, Odell Beckham Jr. Could throw the ball, like, a hundred yards like any of these guys. If we were to play your sport for four weeks and they were to learn the rules.
B
Yeah.
A
And then they would get in there.
B
Yeah.
A
We would win America. And it's a great sport.
G
Yeah.
A
Handball is a incredible. We love it. Every time the Olympics come around, there's, like, spin and, like, strategy, but we've never really gotten into it. I think Chris has kind of taken in one of the greatest athletes we have. I think allegedly. I don't know. This is just from messaging from other people. Wrong Chris Hogan.
G
Wrong guy.
B
What do you mean a different Chris Hogan?
F
Different Chris Hogan.
B
Different.
A
I refuse to believe it. Lacrosse guy Chris Hogan.
G
Hey, it doesn't matter. Let's get Chris's name out there. Let's just get it. Maybe he's gonna. We'll get him going. We'll start him now.
A
Hey, Chris.
G
Chris. Start calling. We just pumped you up.
A
You better start practicing. Practice now. Well, let's go, Matt. We're ending our time here at the combine alongside of you. We appreciate you stopping by. I'm thankful that you joined us. Maybe this becomes an annual tradition. As the last person we talk to here.
G
That would be amazing. I. You know how much I appreciate you guys, and I'm. I'm so thankful to be here.
A
Okay, we're going to need a little speech here in a second, boys, in the truck. Great work, boys. Great work this week, boys. Barcode and team. Great work on the set up. Unbelievable stuff here. Obviously a lot going on. We appreciate the hell out of you guys.
G
Got that for you.
D
Wow.
G
Custom.
A
Will you sign that?
G
Custom. You know what I mean? I love TA TA Roga number twos, but why couldn't it have been like Rolexes? Like, I get pencils all the time. I should have. I really should have gone Rolexes. But defend the shoe. There you go.
A
I don't know how you need to start calling plays maybe with. With a Rolex.
G
Just.
B
Just with the maybe signals.
A
Maybe start doing this.
G
Yeah, yeah, we could do this. We could come up with a bunch of hand signals for defensive calls.
B
And like, it's a new stuff in with.
G
I got my Boston scally caps going.
F
You guys still signal stuff in with the green dots still.
G
Yeah, you know, that's probably a big adjustment in college.
A
Why you so used to.
C
I have the same questionary.
F
Hold this. I'm like. You got a. We got a speaker.
G
Well, maybe they're not.
E
Maybe it's nothing.
A
Okay.
C
Look over here.
G
Maybe it's nothing. Yeah, don't look here. Look there. That was probably a big change.
A
Hey, Signetti was listening. You just gave it away. We're not falling for listening. Before we get out of here and before we get. I believe Sedexo wants to bring us this. Become a new thing.
D
Some meat.
A
This has become a new thing. We do shows at these stadiums.
C
Sports fun.
A
Sodexo has like a lot of these things. Stadiums. Somebody at Sodexo is a fan of the program. And they always just send us all the food from the stadium.
F
Lift that up here on the speeders.
A
I don't know who exactly this is. This is a very cool looking chef who's bringing us some stuff.
G
I'm Italian, so this is right up my alley right here. When you guys are in the full pies on.
A
What are you.
G
Yeah, there's a little bit of mix in there, but 90.
A
Northern Italy.
G
No, no, Southern.
C
Start over there. Start over there.
A
No, no, no. Start over there. I really confused. Oh, my God.
F
Come on now.
A
Poor guy.
G
This is going all down my shirt. Thank you so much.
A
Thank you very much.
B
Oh, my God.
A
Oh, and then we got Mark's chef.
C
Chef, is there alcohol in these?
H
Okay.
D
Hell yeah.
A
Thank you, sir. What are these here? Yeah, you can definitely take that.
G
This is.
B
Okay.
A
Thank you. Can you put that up on your.
H
That's.
C
That's tequila for sure.
A
And Nick, can we get the handheld, please, turned on?
C
Pat, this will help you out, buddy.
A
What is this, a mark? Yeah. Holy Maggie.
C
Right back in it, pal.
A
Cheers to you. I'm pretty hungover. It's gonna happen. Can you turn on the handheld mic, please, Nick? Okay, go ahead, sir. Can you talk? Can you. So what is the sandwich here and are you serving here? I don't think I fully understand the setup here at the combine. Yeah, we are doing full suite service for all the teams, and then we have ancillary catering for the medical staff, the players, and anybody else involved in this. So for this sandwich, this is something so.
E
Look at this guy.
A
Nah, I'm talking to the truck. They have something wide open in my ear back there. They have a microphone just blaring in my ear. I think it was a show from earlier before. Currently in my right ear. In my left ear. Thank you so much for turning that off, Chef Dave. In my left ear. I didn't hear a word you said, but I heard you're doing a lot of incredible things for people. We appreciate you taking care of them. And I also appreciate the fact that anytime we're in a Sodexo stadium, you guys bring us the absolute greatest stuff. We try to. Yeah. So thank you so much for that. Have an incredible weekend. And is this. This is going to be the most delicious thing I've ever thanked.
B
Oh, yeah, it is so good.
A
It's bomb.
D
What is this?
C
It's really good.
B
It's like brisket.
A
It's a house smoked short rib. House smoke rib jalapeno, Fresno slo. Oh, Crispy onions.
B
Yeah, Little bit of that.
A
Slo.
C
Little bit of special sauce.
A
Chef Davis, Chef Davis, special sauce. Absolutely. Okay. We don't. We. We're learning a lot about each other.
C
It's fantastic.
E
Yeah.
C
Great work.
B
So good.
A
Yes?
B
Thank you, chef.
G
Yes, chef.
A
Yes, chef.
C
Thank you, chef.
B
You are.
A
Sabir, Chef, behind. Thank you so much, chef. Thank you. So, Dexo, thank you for everything. We appreciate the hell out of you, brother. We'll see you soon. Thank you so much for everything. Sodexo is very good.
D
Pretty good.
A
How do you like that?
G
This is good.
A
It's good. See, but this is what we're talking about here.
G
I need motivation.
F
Bad decision.
C
Coach, if you were to draft an Ohio State player first, which one would it be?
A
Oh, yeah. Which player do you like the most?
G
See, this is the good part because everyone asked me that question. I said, fellas, that's why I'm not in. Yeah, I can take as many as I want. So we're just Going to get them all.
A
All right. So. That's unbelievable. I don't know how to eat it. I know.
C
Serious question, though. How do you feel about teams moving Arvella? Strictly on the ball edge, you know,
G
obviously, whatever scheme they're running. But I think the good thing that he was able to show and a lot of those. Those our guys this year is being able to play in those multiple positions. He can play on the edge.
D
He.
G
I mean, watch some of his edge. Setting stuff with his ends and he's. It's, you know, we're bobbleheading.
A
Yeah.
F
Setting the edge, like, outside arm free. I try to teach a little third and fourth graders that, but unfortunately, they're not exactly.
G
I try to teach my kids that,
A
too, and they don't.
G
It's not.
F
Yeah, like, come on, guys, just watch it.
A
Just do what he's doing.
B
Do what this guy's doing.
G
What's so hard about.
B
Yeah, exactly.
G
Yeah. Because I'm your dad. That's fine. You're not going to be able to do that.
A
Tom, great work this week, buddy.
C
You too, brother. Thank you.
A
Ty, great to see you. We love you, man. Great to see you. Enjoy the sandwich. That is delicious, if you're able to get to it. Boston. Connor. Good to see you, buddy.
B
Good to see you, man.
A
Aj, thank you for traveling over. Great luck to your boy.
F
Thank you.
A
Good luck to Hendrix.
C
Oh, no, he's gone.
F
No, he's watching the guys in the field and he's, you know, he's losing his mind. If he can see Caleb Downs, it
A
feels like, hey, he's got a size 11 shoe. He's 13. He's obviously son of a. A.J. hawk, if you would just like to offer him a scholarship. Might as well. No, no.
F
His head needs to get hurt. I still knock on his forehead and that's not hard enough.
C
He's not joking.
F
His nose doesn't have a bump on it yet, either.
A
Okay. He's playing flag.
C
He's a great kid.
A
I love him.
F
To love him to death. I don't know, but I'm just saying his head just needs to get harder.
A
Matt, thank you so much for joining us.
D
All right.
A
Be a friend. Have an incredible weekend. We'll see you on Monday. We'll be in Arizona with Team USA Baseball for their first training as the World Baseball Classic throws its first pitch next Friday for the United States of America. We are loaded. Team USA is loaded. All the boys of USA Baseball are playing in this World Baseball Classic. From our experience of covering sports on a Daily basis, this will become a huge thing. Just like what we saw especially coming fresh out of the Olympics. Japan has uhhuh. All their Dominican good luck. All of their players gonna need it. And it's the first time long time from my understanding that America has everybody. We're talking Judge Bryce, Paul Skeens, Tarek Skubel, scubal, Bobby Witt Jr. Yeah, everybody I think is playing for America and we're gonna get a chance to see them all. And there's a chance, maybe even I take Kershaw 500. Okay? There's. I mean, there's chance for anything. There's a chance. Kershaw takes me 600 people. I think we're going to be out there on Monday. We can't thank you enough for allowing us to do this for a living. Be a friend. Tell a friend something nice. It might change your life. We're in this thing together. Coach Patricia has last thought for us here as we head into the greatest weekend of all time.
G
Yeah, you know, just I always go back to with our guys and our team gratitude. Let's just be grateful and appreciative for everything that we got. And I'm so thankful for you guys having me on.
A
We appreciate the hell out of you, team. Have a great weekend, dude.
G
Thank you.
A
And good luck through spring ball and everything like that.
E
Sick nanny's coming.
A
Have a great weekend, everybody. We appreciate you all so much. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, three, team.

Date: February 27, 2026
Location: Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis, NFL Combine "Lahd Hahse")
Pat McAfee and his rotating cast (AJ Hawk, Toxic Table, Tone Digs) bring their unique brand of sports coverage live from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. This episode is packed with laughter, analysis, special guests, and celebration of two historic American hockey gold medals. The show opens with reflections on the Combine’s legendary networking scene, then dives into the latest NFL draft storylines, inside NFL gossip, and a tribute to the feats of Team USA’s Jack Hughes and Megan Keller. In classic McAfee fashion, the episode is a seamless blend of serious insight and unfiltered fun.
The Combine isn’t just about workouts—networking is off the charts. Pat describes feeling "way too old" for the after-hours schmoozing, but acknowledges this is where "the seeds are planted for free agency and trades."
“This is where the seeds are planted for free agency frenzy. This is where the trades are planned. This where the extensions are happening.” (Pat, 14:53)
Unprecedented Athleticism:
Tone Digs on Combine Trends:
“That was the fastest average time for both linebackers and defensive linemen they've ever had.” (Tone, 06:41)
Broad agreement the NFL’s rookie class is not only bigger/faster but more mature (“These guys have been millionaires since age 18…”)
Viral moment: Jets defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn caught napping (“tiger snooze”) up in the Combine suites, debated in jest as either a scandal or a genius move.
Pat riffs:
“Your entire angle is they’re doing what nobody else’s supposed … They’re falling asleep while scouting players. Genius!” (Pat, 12:30)
Networking Notes: Media stars like Ian Rapoport use the Combine to dig for scoops, “hoping to run into people and get leverage information.”
Salary Cap Update (17:38): NFL cap rises to $301.2M for 2026, a bump of $22M.
[22:15–43:54]
“We have more 24 and 25-year-olds in this draft than we’ve ever seen … makes the evaluation a little bit easier.” (Daniel, 36:32)
“That sweet spot of this draft … 16 or 17 to 55, that’s a sweet spot.” (Daniel, 36:17)
[57:02–116:50]
“Of the 25 guys on that team, I think 21 … are NDTP guys. We literally grew up together. Weddings, class, all of it.” (Jack, 70:18)
“The team camaraderie is unbelievable... In 20 years there’ll be another Jack Hughes. It’s just legacy.” (Jack, 71:55)
“This is going to be a story my son and I will talk about for the rest of our lives.” (Schrager, 48:25)
On tooth loss: “Every hockey player loses teeth. That’s not even a question … Really, it’s more, ‘Now I gotta go spend time in the dentist’s chair.’” (Jack, 88:43)
Sudden rise to stardom:
“It is a different level, for sure … now I have to be Jack Hughes more than I’ve ever been in my life.” (Jack, 93:24)
Jack’s humility and team-first mindset widely praised; the team’s culture—rooted in service, toughness, and modesty—is the episode’s emotional core.
“That’s a nail gun right there. Not a squid at all, dude. Love to play tummy stick sometime at another day.” (Pat, 112:13)
[116:54–131:53]
Keller describes the thrill of the U.S. women’s team’s win over Canada and her golden goal.
Team chemistry: “We're working for something your whole life and you get to celebrate with your teammates—there's nothing better than that.” (Megan, 121:56)
Shoutout to Erin Frankel as the “best goalie in the world, hands down.”
On going back to real life after winning it all: “I was so excited to get back to Boston … I think just, it's an incredible time in sports and in women's hockey.” (Megan, 127:39)
Strong unity and mutual support between men’s and women’s U.S. teams, despite outside narratives.
PWHL and Boston Fleet details: "All the players you watched at the Olympics, they play in the PWHL… the Boston Fleet are number one!" (Megan, 125:35)
[45:46–57:02, others]
