This is the players Box.

Hi, everyone, and welcome back to another episode of the Players Box. I'm Desiree Krafczyk alongside Jenny Brady, Madison Keys, and Jess Pegula. Please remember to give our podcast five stars and to subscribe to our YouTube. We would, as always, very much appreciate it. Okay, we always start off with our unforced error of the week. It's kind of like a tiny failure or like a mishap. So with that, let's get started. Jess. Hi.
C
My unforced error, which I think I've already told you about, I've decided is going to be, is that I have been utterly failing at transportation here in Riyadh. It took me 90 minutes to get back to my hotel yesterday. I missed a couple things. And then we started playing this game with my coaches of, like, who can actually get back to wherever destination is faster. And I think I'm like, 0 for 4. They keep leaving 10 to 15 minutes before me, and I arrive 10 to 15 minutes after them. So I don't really know what's going on, but I'm not very lucky with my transportation or driving. And even today, Maddie left before me from the site to go back to the hotel, and you beat me to the hotel. So I don't know what it is, but I'm just not winning at my commutes this week.
A
So do you mean that we leave after you?
C
Oh, sorry. No. Oh, yeah. You leave after.
A
I was like, maybe she'll fix it.
C
No, I didn't fix it. Yeah. So you leave. Well, yeah, after me. I keep leaving before everybody, and then I keep. Everyone keeps getting there before me. So I'm losing on all angles, clearly, even by describing it. Anyways, Jenny.
D
Okay, so my unforced error of the week was yesterday. I decided I was going to get takeout, and. And I had showered and put on my pajamas, and I was like, I'll just keep them on. I'll go pick up my takeout in my pajamas. You know, I'm not gonna see anybody. Like, you know, what are the chances of me seeing someone? Pretty low. Okay. So I go, and I'm driving, and then I park, and I see, like, a crowd of, like, 30 people, and they're walking, and I'm like, oh, my gosh. Like, this is a lot of people. And I get out of my car, I lock it, and then all of a sudden, I hear Jenny Brady. And I go, oh, my gosh. Are you kidding me? Literally, I stepped foot outside my car, and someone is saying my name, like, and I Pretended like I didn't hear because I was like, like, you know, I'm literally in my oversized T shirt, no bra, like, you know, super comfy she shorts, like, you know, like, pajama shorts. And I'm like, literally, I look chopped, like, really bad.
B
And.
D
And so then someone says it again, and I'm like. And then I look, and it's Sloan's mom. And, yeah, like, civil's there. And I'm like, what. What are you doing here? And I was like, oh, my gosh. I'm so embarrassed. I did not think I was going to see anybody. I'm literally in my pajamas right now. And she was like, oh, well, just don't look behind you, because literally there's about 30 other tennis people. And I was like, oh, great. Like, literally, Like, I was like, oh, gosh. So ended up going and getting my takeout, and I saw, like, a couple other tennis people, like, from a distance, and I was like, okay, never again. Like, got to put on at least a bra next time. So that's my unforced error. Desiree, what was your unforced error of the week?
B
Well, a couple days ago, what I thought was birds chirping in the morning happened to be a fire alarm that needed to be replaced. And so I'm like, wow, is birds, like, in sync for every, like, 40 seconds. So I go downstairs, and I'm like, okay, where's this fire alarm? And go downstairs. I have three levels. And what I thought was birds chirping, I thought is a fire alarm. And I go to replace it. It's the wrong one. Go downstairs. Nope, it's not this one. And I'm like, where is this coming from? So then I went back upstairs to my bedroom. Not that one. So I literally, like, sat and just, like, just let it chirp. Finally, I was like, hey, where is it? So it ended up not being a fire alarm. It ended up being a small, like, carbon monoxide tester thing that I just literally unplugged. But I literally changed every single battery in every fire alarm. And. And it still was chirping, but then I just unplugged in. That could have been that easy. So that was my unforced error.
C
Well, also.
A
Wait, no. You have to, like, plug it back in.
D
Yeah, like, no, I just.
B
I switched out the battery, but I. It was this simple. It was this simple to just take out. But I just replace every battery in my fire alarm. That was after, what, four years of having it? So.
C
And you thought it was a bird.
D
To be yeah, that's actually the best part.
B
Tripping like weird times. And I was like, huh, okay, did it again.
A
I was like, wow, this bird is.
B
You know, like when birds just have a distinct calling and it's just, like, in sync and it's just like.
A
I don't know.
B
But literally, that's. Yeah. But anyways, we got it fixed, we changed the batteries, and we're all good.
C
So.
B
So, Maddie.
A
Okay. I don't really have an unforced error for this week, so killing it, but I'm going to go honorable mention and I'm going to take someone else's unforced air, at least unforced air, in my opinion, for everyone who's not a huge tennis fan. Zizou Burgs beat Alex Mikkelsen in the third set in Paris, and he won the match. And he did a little moonwalk and it got put on a lot of social channels. And Riley Opelka, fellow American, decided to comment something about, like, he would rather lose in the third than win in the third and moonwalk. And Zizou responded and said, I'd rather play than not play in qualies. Which I kind of thought was a little bit of a stinger back.
C
It was a good comeback.
A
It was a good comeback, but also, like, drama on the boy side.
C
It was.
D
Yeah. But then I saw, like, Riley commented on something saying, like, people think we have beef and people think we are beefing. So I'm like, are they not.
A
Is it just Riley's like the biggest troll of all trolls?
B
Oh, yeah.
D
It's like his.
A
It's like his hobby is to just be online and just troll people chronically. So he probably saw it and was like.
D
Yeah, for sure.
A
We should just start sending Riley all the screenshots of, like, usernames of, like, sports betters that are sending us terrible stuff and you can just troll them back.
C
Oh, yeah, we could hire him to. Yeah, that's actually a great idea. That's.
A
Did we just. Did we just give him, like, a post career job? Wow.
C
Or current.
D
Side gig side gig side.
B
Gigi loves it, so that would actually be amazing.
A
We might have to call Riley and see if he's interested.
B
He might be trolling our podcast too.
D
So, you know, hey, probably.
C
Jenny, do you remember when we were like, we should pretend we're in the WWE and let's have fake beef when we play each other, we should just start talking crazy. Like, just go crazy, but, like, be totally fine after, like, a total act. And yeah, that was definitely. We had that idea at one point, but we would just start laughing.
D
Yeah, yeah. We were like, there's. I was like, come on. Like, there's no way, like, on a changeover, like, I could like, say something without literally, like, hysterically laughing. Like, I would just crack up.
B
Like when you're switching sides by the chair umpire and then you're like, what?
D
No, but sometimes I do, like, a little mind games, you know, Just a little. Yeah, yeah.
A
The other person.
B
Interesting.
A
Mind games.
D
Yeah, sometimes I do mind games with myself. Mind games with myself against myself.
C
Imagine. Imagine one of us gets a warning and we're like, no, wait, we were just kidding.
D
It's all code violation game.
A
It's all an act.
D
It was a joke. It wasn't real. It wasn't real.
C
Imagine explaining that to the supervisors. Please don't find me.
B
It was just writing your appeal.
D
Yeah, yeah. And they have it on video, like, dez.
A
That would be awesome.
B
I swear it was a joke. Oh, gosh. All right, who won unforced ERA of the week?
D
I'd say dez, but not because of the chirping noise, but the fact that you thought it was actually a bird.
C
Yeah, that guy.
B
Well, it was 6 in the morning. I was like, oh, like, you know, just his morning. Little chirping morning sunrise. Yeah.
C
Usually have birds in the. In the morning.
B
Yeah, like crows.
D
Not like. Like, constantly. Like. Like a loud.
B
No, not consistently, but it was like a three single chirps at the same time. And then it was like, huh?
D
And then it happens again and you're like, huh?
B
You've never. How is that. Okay, Next time you actually think about it, you'll see that birds actually have, like, a consistent harmonizing chirp sound.
D
I wouldn't say that noise is harmonizing, but, yeah, so well. But yeah, so actually, my unforced. My. I got out of my Unfortunate. I got out of my unforced. I did get out of my. But I did get out of my unforced ERA last week because I did have jury duty on Friday, and I was obviously not chosen because I was able to go to the Jonas Brothers concert with Jesse, which we had a blast at. We got to meet Kevin. Kevin Jonas, who actually did a solo, which was single.
B
Right?
D
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So. So the three of them each had their, like, solo moment, and he did his. And we were. I was like, why doesn't he sing more? Like, he's got a really, really good voice.
C
Yeah.
D
But it was a really fun concert.
C
Yeah, it was super fun.
B
And who was the guest appearance. Is there, like, an opening act or someone?
C
They kind of just brought out Big Rob for Burning.
D
Yeah, yeah, he came out. He came out and I go, oh, is he the special guest? Like, I was like, oh, who is this guy? Like, I thought he was like, I don't know, like a rapper or something. And they were like, no, Jenny, that's their bodyguard. And I was like. I was like, oh, but he is.
C
A rapper for that moment, for that song.
D
He is, yeah.
C
Well, yeah, but it was a lot of fun. Kevin came to watch me in the finals of the USO or not. I don't know if he came to watch me, but he came to the finals of the US Open last year, and I met him, actually, after I lost and my agent was like, I know you just lost, but, like, Kevin Jonas, like, really wants to, like, say hi with his girls and blah, blah, blah. I was like, yeah, freaking love the Jonas Brothers is the only thing that's gonna help me after this loss anyway. And he was so, so nice. And I've met them before, so it was actually super nice. He knew I was going to the concert, and he actually sent someone to come find us, basically so he could say hi before he went on for the show. And his kids are, like, super into tennis, and he was talking about it a little bit, so it was super nice that he even remembered to do that. So. That's so sweet, Big Kevin. Yeah, they're awesome. They're all really nice, and I don't know, they're my, like, childhood everything.
D
Yeah, yeah, of course.
A
Oh, my gosh.
C
Like, Camp Rock.
B
Does anyone have, like, a dream concert they've wanted to go to?
A
Paramore or Shania Twain.
C
Oh, those are good.
A
Because I saw. I saw Beyonce in London this year.
B
Oh.
A
Oh, London. So that was, like, a bucket list item finally checked off. But I have a few more to go down the list.
B
Britney Spears.
D
Oh.
B
Loved her growing up. Every cassette, every cd. Loved it.
D
I'm not, like, a huge, like, concert person, so I don't, like, have, like, a dream concert that I would like to go to. I mean, Jonas Brothers was so much fun, but it's not like I'm, like, dying to, like, go see someone specific, like, perform. I'd rather just listen in my car.
C
Yes. 30 seconds after. Yeah, exactly. That's why she can't do a concert. She's got to listen.
D
I know. I'm like, this song's been going on for three minutes. Like, when are they playing the next one?
B
Skip, skip, skip.
D
Literally, like, I think like, during one of the songs, I had, like, couple of the songs. I had no idea what they were. I was like, okay, I have to, like, get out of here for a sec. Like, I need to, like, walk around. Yeah. I was like, I need a. I need a little break here. Need a breather.
B
Have a favorite concert they've been to.
C
Wait, I would love to go to Chris Staple or Kings of Leon for sure.
B
Well, yeah, Stapleton would be really good.
D
I mean, Kings of Leon is my number one favorite band of all time, but.
B
So you wouldn't go and see them?
D
No, like, I. I would actually.
C
The.
D
Drummer from Simple Plan. Do you guys remember Simple Plan? He actually messaged me randomly one time on Instagram or something and was like, huge fan. Let me know, like, if you ever want to come to a show. And I was like, oh, my gosh. Like, let me know if you ever want to come to a tennis match. Like, I'll get you a ticket. Like, I was like, it's probably not as cool, but, like, yeah, like, you know, just let me know. But I think that would be really fun. Like. Like the. The cool, you know, like, nostalgic bands, like, growing up. Like you said, dez. Britney Spears. But yeah. Yeah.
B
So good. Yeah. Favorite concert anyone's been to.
D
Yeah, the Jones Brothers was.
A
Beyonce was insane.
C
Beyonce would be really cool.
D
Yeah. I mean, the All American Rejects like, opened for the Jonas Brothers, and I was like, whoa, like, 15 years. But what did we say? Like, 15 years ago?
B
It would have been crazy.
D
The opposite. Like, Jonas Brothers would have opened for All American Rejects.
C
Yeah.
D
So it was really fun. I think it's also, like, who you go with. I would say the company was above average, but.
A
Thanks.
B
I went to a Carrie Underwood concert, and I thought she was so good. She's such a great performer. Kelsey Ballerini also was a really good one. Wow. Especially when you know other songs, though.
A
I feel Taylor Swift, I was getting.
B
There, but I didn't want to go right off the bat. Yes. I was singing every song, too, of Carrie Underwood, but yes. Taylor Swift, of course. I mean, that was a given. Everyone knows that. I went twice and sang my heart out.
D
I feel like you've gone to a lot of concerts, Des.
C
Des is definitely the avid concert goer. I feel like you go, like, every month. I like, the Jones Brothers was the first concert I've been to in, like, a while. I don't go that much. I don't know why.
D
Yeah.
B
Oh, I actually went to another concert. And yeah, I do go to Concerts, if I can. I will. Like, I flew to Portland to go see Kelsey Ballerini, which was. I would have never done, but I was like, you know what? Might as well. And I really liked her. So did, like, a day trip, and that was really fun.
D
But, yeah, I mean, Jess, we were standing for three hours. The next day, we were texting, and I was laying in bed with my legs up on the wall, and I was like. I was like, my feet hurt so bad, and she was like, my ankles are so swollen.
C
So swollen. Right before the flight, my feet in my. We were in, like, a. Like, a standing area only, which was kind of nice.
D
No, it was amazing.
C
Like, this is great, but, like, if there was maybe one stool to, like, take a break, that would have been wonderful.
B
Just.
D
No, literally, like, one stool. The security. Like, where the security was. I was like, okay. Like, if she gets up, like, I'm taking that seat. I'm gonna sit in it.
B
So for those of you who do not know, Maddie and Jess are in Riyadh for the WTA Finals this week. Ladies, can you give us an update on how the event's going? What's practice? Like, all the good stuff.
C
Well, we flew in Monday. What day is that?
D
Monday night.
B
Monday night.
C
Really, really late, kind of. So Tuesday was our first day, obviously. Today's Wednesday. We're hitting practicing together tomorrow early, and then we have the, like, iconic WTA Finals photoshoot that they do, so we have to be done by noon. So we're hitting nice little hour morning practice session tomorrow. Tonight. We just actually, before we filmed this episode, we went and did our dress fittings for the photo shoot, which was fun. Maddie, like, first dress she tried on and was done. She's like, yep, I'm good. And it was weirdly looked exactly. I walked in, and I was like, is that the same dress that you wore? The Vanity Fair shoot we did in Paris? I don't know if it's the same designer. You have to, like, find out. It almost looks exactly the same, but it looked really good. So I was like, oh, it looks great. So she's like, yeah, I'm done.
A
It's not the exact same dress, but it's like. It's so similar. It fits really well. I was like, it looks good. And then the one option. The other option they gave me, I was like, it's really pretty, but I don't think it's gonna zip around my butt. So I was like, I'm gonna hang that back up. And then Jess came in after, and. And she tried on her first dress. And I was like, wait, Jess, try this one.
C
She did. She picked the second one. We really liked the first one. And I was like, oh, I'll just try a few more on whatever. Cause I didn't even look at all the options that they had. And, yeah, Maddie pulled the winner. I tried on this really, like, ruffly one that just. We didn't even know if I put it on right. And I walk out, and Coco was there also finishing her fitting. And she just goes, no, no.
B
Dying. Laughing.
C
I'm like, oh, I'll just turn around right now. Nope, it's not gonna happen.
A
And then she was like, it's, like, frumpy. And she got. She just kept trying to describe it, and we're like, okay, we get it. We're looking for.
C
We get it. We're not choosing the tag.
A
And she was like, yeah, it's really not it. We were like, she's not gonna wear her. It's like, it's okay.
C
I just.
A
I just want to make sure, like, that's not it.
C
I know. It was so funny.
B
Weren't the dresses that you guys brought over? It was dresses that they had given you. And everyone has, like, a style, right?
C
Yes.
B
They want each individual player to have.
C
I think they have an idea.
B
A color.
A
Yeah.
C
See how it goes?
A
They have an idea. And then we walked into a conference room in the hotel, and there were, I mean, 200 dresses and, like, racks and racks of dresses, all different sizes. And then there was a ton of shoes and jewelry, and it was. So everyone had options because it's obviously the eight singles players and then the eight doubles team. So they have a lot of girls to dress. So, yeah, they brought lots of options.
D
More than, like, what you were originally given? Yeah, like, because you were given, like, a couple options, like, ahead of time.
A
And then I asked the stylist, and they said they had nine checked suitcases.
D
Wowzers.
A
Yeah.
C
Yeah. But, Des, I don't know if you remember from last year. Do you remember, like, the room? Oh, wait, I think you're muted.
A
You're on mute, Des.
B
Sorry. Who's barking?
C
That was really funny, though, to watch you.
B
You're like, yes, it was a tiny room, but definitely not with 200 dresses. There was about.
C
No 50 and jewelry.
B
Really cool.
C
I walked in, and I was like, whoa, this is way more. I was like, maddie, we had, like, two of these racks last year. That's why when I. When she was coming this year, I was like, bring a backup. Because they did not have Like a ton of options. But they did a very good job of improving it. They're like, don't worry, we're learning and we're growing. We have a lot more options now. A lot of different body types to fit different girls. Plenty of options. It was. It was cool and it was very. It was really quick this year.
B
Oh, that's good though. But it's nice that if you have a backup, it's something you're comfortable and it's like, okay, worst case I have a backup. It's fine. But that's nice.
D
I.
B
The dresses were all there and the jewelry and the hair and makeup. So hopefully they have a bigger room than last year because we were all crammed and like you've had like every hairstylist in each corner and it was just. It was pretty hot and chaotic in there.
C
Yeah, it was. I think we're literally in that same room. It's like a giant ballroom, basically. I think they're just.
B
But they'll stagger everyone. So I'm excited to see everyone's dresses.
C
Oh, my gosh. Yeah.
D
I mean, I would definitely roll up with no backup.
A
We would bring it back up.
D
Just hope for the best.
C
Well, Coco definitely approved my look. She really likes so good what I landed on. She was all over it. No, she's like, oh, I like that. I was like, yes.
A
We both got the Coco stamp of approval, so.
D
Oh, yes, Queen.
C
You guys are good.
B
The Gen Z is approved.
D
Oh, we love that.
C
Yeah.
D
Yes. Nobody's gonna be looking. Chop.
B
Did you guys go explore anywhere in Riyadh yet? I mean, I know you got there two days ago, but.
C
Or yeah, I always have enough time. It's like. Yeah, I'm thinking maybe Friday cuz I'm hitting at 6pm late, so I'm going to try and do something Friday morning is. Or like early afternoon.
D
And what day do you start playing?
C
I'm Sunday, Maddie. Are you.
A
I'm Saturday.
C
You're Saturday.
D
Okay.
B
It's good that you guys are not in the same group.
C
Right?
B
You guys aren't in the same group.
C
Separate groups. Great.
B
We'll see you guys in the finals. Yeah.
A
I'm in Serena Williams. Is that right?
C
And I'm in the Steffi graph, I think. Yeah, it's Steffi and Serena. Yeah. So I'm with. I'm in Steffi Graff group with Arina, Coco, Jasmine, myself. And you're with iga, Elena.
A
Me and Amanda.
B
Yeah, Elena.
A
Sorry, Elena. I was gonna yell at me for mispronouncing that so it's Elena. I know, sorry.
C
I was talking to Jenny earlier and I was like, which I was trying to figure out which group is harder because they're both like so hard.
A
They're so topically I'm like, well, I.
C
Feel like the match here. But then I'm like, oh God, I would really hate to play that person. I'm like, well, the other group is like, looks even worse. And then you just go back and forth because they're both really hard, which is the point.
D
But yeah, it's a top eight.
B
It's really cool though to see all the top best eight players.
A
I saw my group and I was like, wow, that's tough. And then I looked at the other one and I was like, oh, I don't know if that's any better. Yeah, sucks too.
C
I did the same thing. I'm like, maybe my group's better. I don't really know. Unless you have like an insane winning record with against everybody in your group, which, yeah, nobody really does. So it's just hard right off the bat. Dez, you are in LA and I'm excited to hear about your egg freezing journey that you just started. So please, yes, tell us more.
B
I'm back home. Yeah, I just started my egg freezing. Well, first trigger shot. But I'm doing my egg freezing these next couple weeks and I'm a little nervous but it's 10 days worth of shots and like yesterday I did my trigger shot. So then I'll have to wait a week to see how that's how my body's reacting to that. And then I'll start doing a 10 day shot series and do my egg retrieval which I think is about a 15 minute procedure. So it's not long, but I am a little nervous. I'm curious to see how my emotions will be and how the hormones will be flowing during this procedure. So bear with me, guys. Might go raging, but you know, okay, yeah, you definitely have to take it easy. They just recommend to not do anything high intensity. You can walk, you can do pilates, just not anything. Crunching. No conditioning.
A
So not, not.
B
Conditioning. But you can go into like and do a slow Abril. But yeah, just taking it easy. Which is kind of nice because it's off season. You kind of have to try and slow down and chill out. But yeah, so I guess stay tuned to see if next week I'll be crying on the next episode or not.
C
And there's a few girls doing it right. All players with the new maternity fund right through the WTA Yeah, there's a.
B
I think a lot of players. I mean, the WTA, they came out with the funding and. Which is great because obviously with playing, you have to take off time, and off season is not that long. So a lot of players are doing the egg freezing, and it's amazing that WTA has that funding. And you can maybe do it once a year, you can do it twice a year, depending on how you want. But, yeah, I have a few of my friends who have gone through it. I know a lot of girls that have gone through it, and it's nice to have that kind of community in a way, to just have to bounce off of and just see how their experience is, because everyone's experience is going to be different. You can either be fine to play in the practice in the next a week after your procedure, or it might take longer. So it just obviously depends. But it's nice to have a couple friends going through it at the same time so we can. Yeah. See how it goes.
C
I feel like it's also nice that it's with the WTA because you're taking hormones, so you also have. They have to work with anti doping. Right. So, like, make sure they know that you're doing this for this, and we're not in competition and all that.
D
Yeah, exactly.
B
Yeah. There's obviously, the shots have a certain couple drugs in them, and they have the anesthesia that you go under for, like, the twilight and the stimulation as well. There's different medications, so you have to be very vigilant in checking what all that is. So what I did, I sent in all that medication to the WTA just to triple check that everything is okay out of competition. And if I were to be in competition. But usually you're not in competition when you're doing this, so. Yeah, they just. Yeah, it's great that they have that resource and you have to just make sure you're doing it right. Because the worst thing could happen is, you know, you take something that you're trying to do the right thing of and then you get caught for it. And it's just you have to get a TUE to get approval, which I didn't do. I'm not taking that specific drug. But, yeah.
C
Yeah, that's a lot.
D
Yeah. Yeah, it's a lot.
B
I have my whole bag here for five days worth of shots.
D
You go, girl.
C
Yeah. Oh, well, I'm excited. Yeah. To see how it goes and how your experiences, because it's, you know. Yeah. Something I definitely have thought about doing. But you gotta let me know how it goes first.
D
Yeah.
B
I definitely think it's something that is. If you have the opportunity and the funding to do it, it's great. You should do it. I think it's obviously scary. You have to, you know, inject yourself. Inject yourself every day, and it's not fun. I was sweating as I was like, okay, I can do this. I can do this. Nope, not doing it. I was like, oh, my gosh, Just do it. So I did. It's fine. It was so easy. It's just, like, that initial, like, anticipation of, like, giving yourself a shot. But, yeah, I definitely. Highly recommend for anyone who's thinking about doing it. You should definitely do it. I think it's like an insurance policy in a way. You know, you don't know how long you'll be playing for and if you want to continue with your career. This is a good.
D
We want little Des's running around.
B
Do you though?
A
That's a lot.
B
Of sweaty. Des is okay.
D
Of course we do.
A
Last week, we confessed our biggest meltdowns, and this week, it's time to confess some more things. So, Jenny, I'm gonna start with you. Most embarrassing locker room moment.
D
Most embarrassing locker room moment, I would say. At French open one year, I was in the locker room, and you guys know how, like, the space is, like, very small. Like, it's very minimal. And where I was, I was in one of the corners, and my locker was in the, like, the end of the corner. So, like, on the inside of the corner, and I was actually next to Serena, and I was cleaning out my locker. And I think I've told this before, but anyways, I was cleaning out my locker, and I had, like, four boxes of laundry. Like, because they give you your laundry in these boxes, and it's like, literally, like, I'll have, like, two bras and, like, one pair of shorts in one box, and then it's like, four shirts. I'm like, just put it all in one box, and they give you so many boxes. And I'm in the middle of doing that, and Serena comes in, and I'm like, Like, I don't know. I just got, like. Like, I froze up. And I was like, I'm in her way. I have to move.
B
Like, I have to go.
D
I have to leave the area. Like, she's here, and I have to leave. Like, she comes in, and there's, like, tennis bags everywhere. So she couldn't even get into her locker. So she's taking the bags, and she's, like, throwing them onto the other Side and not, like, literally throwing them. Like, literally picking them up and just putting them on the other side of the bench.
C
And.
D
And I'm like, I'm holding these boxes. Like, I have, like, four boxes in my hand. And I look at her, and then I look. And then I just, like, literally just, like, go stand on the bench, walk over, like, jump over the bags, and just leave. And I'm like, I never even finished, like, cleaning out my locker. Like, I just, like, had this urge to, like, I need to leave her in her space. Like, I was, like, so intimidated. I was like, I'm in the wrong here. I'm not supposed to be here. I need to leave the premises. I need to leave the premises.
B
After her match. Like, did she lose or.
D
I don't remember. I don't really know. Honestly. I just, in general, her presence, like, And I was just, like, she just blocked out. Yeah, I literally blocked out. This was, like, maybe, like, seven years ago, you know? And, like, I've never been in the locker room with Serena, and, like, she was, like, two lockers from me, and she was already, like, overwhelmed because there were so many bags. And here I am with my four boxes of laundry and, like, other crap in my locker that I was, like, cleaning, and I was like, I'll just do it tomorrow. Like, I gotta leave my stuff. I gotta go. Like, I'll get my laundry tomorrow. Like, so that was. I don't know. That's pretty embarrassing, like, for me. Like, you know, I don't know. I felt pretty embarrassed.
B
So. So.
D
But, Jess, do you have one?
C
I actually don't. I've tried really hard to think about one for, like, since we had this breakdown of the episode. I. I honestly don't really have one. What about you, Des?
B
I'm trying to think as well. No, not really. Like a locker room.
C
Not like an embarrassing. Yeah.
B
Yeah. I mean, I've definitely just like, sometimes in some of the tournaments, the towels are so far away. Like, you get to your lockers, and I'm, like, undressing and getting ready for shower, and I'm like, I don't have the towel. So I'm like, there's no one around me. Or sometimes it'll just be a random person who I've probably never talked to, and I'm like, hey, can you give me a towel? I really don't want to run around here naked in the locker room. That's basically the gist of it. So instead of going like this in the locker room, if you're going all the Way in the back rooms of US Open. And then you're trying to wash the showers. Yeah, it's a little far.
C
It is. That is kind of a far one.
D
Yeah.
B
Or if you're in the dungeon at French Open, in the dungeon and you're.
D
Just like, oh, yeah, just gotta get through here. I've definitely done that. Like, yeah. Maddie, do you have one?
A
One year, I was like the only person left. It was a night match. I was like the last person to leave and was packing up my stuff and I saw like a cockroach go running and I jumped up on top of one of the benches and started just screaming bloody murder. It truly sounded like I was being attacked. And the poor security man outside came like, right running in. Cuz I was the only person left. And he's like, are you okay? And I was like, yeah, it was a bug. Sorry.
D
It was about yay big, actually.
A
Okay. It's already gone. Really sorry. And he was like, oh, okay. That's it. And I was like, yeah, sorry.
B
Apologize.
A
My bad.
B
Gosh.
D
Has anyone. Has anyone ever snapped at their coach in their box or someone in their.
B
Box.
D
While they're playing a match? You know, tension can get high. Des is very passionate. I feel like maybe DEZ has gone this not to call you out. I've definitely done it.
C
We've all done it a little bit.
B
Yeah.
A
My.
B
I guess snapping in a way, so. So I don't know. Oh, yeah. I was at Queens this year. My coach, Craig Veal. Hi, Craig. He was telling me to run a certain play and I was like, okay. And he was like, no, just do it. And I'm like, okay. So went to the play and obviously didn't work. And so I gave him the thumbs up and I went, thanks.
D
The sarcastic thumbs up.
B
That really worked. And that is probably the extent of my snapping. But I think it's pretty. Like, whoa.
A
It's like thumbs up, coaches. Like, that's like up there.
C
You might as well just flick them off.
D
Yeah, that's disrespectful.
B
I mean, sometimes we do this because it's friends, but if you know, you know. But yeah, the thumbs up was like, yeah, good, good.
D
Yeah. So like, I mean, never in my life have I given a thumbs up because, like, something worked or it was like, really good. Like, I'm never like looking at my coach or someone in the box and I'm like, yeah, that was so good. Like, come on. You know, it's always like, yeah, good. Yeah, thanks for telling me that one. Yeah, thanks.
C
That really works.
D
A teaser.
B
Just like, no acknowledgement to the coach. It's just like, oh, okay, he was right, I guess.
C
Like, okay, whatever.
A
Well, I executed it, so.
C
Yeah, well, I was going to do that before he even said anything.
D
Yeah. So if anybody ever sees someone giving a thumbs up to their box. No, it's not positive.
B
Sarcasm? Yeah, it's not positive.
C
Very passive aggressive. Very sarcastic.
D
Yeah.
B
Anybody else?
A
I.
C
I've done like the. Oh, gosh. I've done like this, like, just stop talking to me. Like, just like, stop. Just stop. But also, I. I don't think they can hear you very well either. So, like, I. Sometimes I've been like, stop. And like, they're not really hearing me. They just know that I'm, like, annoyed because sometimes it's super loud in between points, especially if you're on, like a big court. So I think that's kind of like the most that I've ever done. Usually it's just me being frustrated with myself. I'm usually like, I'm just. I go over, if you talk to them and you can like, whatever, you're not at a slam and you can go up really close sometimes and talk and you're just kind of like, I don't know why I did that. Like, it was so, like, I'm usually kind of tearing myself down. I just like, why would I do that? Like, it's so stupid. Why? Like, seriously, like, what's wrong with me? And they just look at me. They're like, I don't.
B
What?
C
Like, I don't know what to tell you.
D
Yeah.
C
So I. I don't know. I don't really snap too much. It's usually more at myself.
D
Yeah, I get pretty angry at myself.
B
I definitely, like, snap. Well, there was one time, I think I also, like. Well, I don't know if this is snapping, but Craig was just there and, like, obviously being supportive. And, hey, I'm not as bad, okay, as some other players, but I was just, like, mouthing off to him and I'm just like, I wanted a reaction. He was just like. And I'm like, that's even worse. Like, you're so annoying. Please just say something back to me. And he was just like.
A
Okay, well, you're annoying.
B
I'm not looking at you the rest of the match. But anyway, thanks.
D
Oh, my God. When. When I was younger. Oh, man. My mom would come to my matches and she would watch my matches. Like, I could hear her bracelet or, like, her smacking gum and like. Or she would clap for Me. And I'd be like, no, no, don't do that. Like, don't. Don't clap. Don't clap. Like, don't cheer for me. And I'd be like, take your bracelet off. I can hear it tingling.
A
Oh, my gosh.
D
You're, like, abusive so bad.
B
I know.
D
And she's so sweet. Love you, mom.
B
Right now.
D
I love you, mom.
A
Yeah, call Lizzie when we're done with this and tell her that we told you off.
D
Yeah, it was when I was younger. I was, like, trying to be like. I don't know what I was trying to do, but, like, yeah, sound engineer. I'm very sensitive with noises. Like, sounds. I don't know. But, yeah, she knows I love love her.
A
She knows I love her.
D
Love, love. Yeah. So it was my snapping days. Okay, do we want to move on to some fan questions?
C
Yeah.
B
Yeah, we do.
D
Okay. All right, so fan question. Okay, first question from DM Underscore Lynn, based on facial expressions. Last week in our episode, did Jenny and Des get into a fight? Have you? And then the question after that is, have you guys been in a serious fight with one another? And how did you rectify afterwards? Oh, did Jenny and Jazz get into a fight? Honestly, probably, yeah. We're always bickering. DEZ is the only person in our group here who is an only child. So she has told us once before that she wants to know what it's like to have a sibling. And I have taken that. I have taken that role, and I've taken it to a whole other level.
B
Oh, yes, you have. There have been times in the chat, like, Jenny and I are going back and forth. We're like, no, it's this. No, it's not. She goes and gets the screenshot from, like, months ago, and then she's like, here it is. And I'm like, okay, cool. And then Maddie, mostly Maddie, will chime in and be like, okay, guys, that's enough.
D
Okay, break it down.
B
And then Jess will sometimes chime in and be like, oh, gosh, here we go again.
D
Yeah, but it's no bad blood.
B
There's no bad blood. We all love each other.
C
Yeah, but it's more like bickering.
D
Yeah.
B
Like a married couple, I guess.
C
Sisterly.
A
But we're also all. All of us are pretty direct and upfront, so I don't think we've ever really gotten into, like, a legitimate fight, because if there's anything that's ever bugged us, it's just like, hey, we need to talk about this. Do you want to set up a time. Sure, let's.
C
I do feel like that.
A
Or what?
C
All of us are very direct. Like, we don't really sugarcoat anything. Like, I feel like, in general, when we communicate with people, we're also, like, in. So with us, we're even more.
B
Yeah. Because we know who each other are, and we're not gonna take it personally. But, like, in our chat, when I was like, oh, my God, Jenny, you're being so annoying. She's like, oh, am I? Tell me more. And I was like, well.
D
Well, when you did X, Y, and Z. And I'm like, oh, okay. Well.
B
And I was like, well, good to know. Type it up.
C
And then I. That's when I said, I does want to know what it's like to have a sister. Well, case in point. And she's like, yeah, I don't need that in my life.
B
Yeah, I need this.
C
She's like, never mind. I don't want a sister. This what I signed up for. And Jenny's like, too late. I'm here.
D
I was like, oh, it's way too late. Here I am. So, yeah. Yeah, we. Yeah, we have not gotten into a serious fight. Like you guys said, we're all very direct, but if we did, I. I feel like it would be like a quick, like, case closed. Like, oh, this, this, and this. And then you're like, yeah, you're right. Like, I was really annoying or. Yeah, like, I did do this, so we can move on. Okay, moving on. Next question.
B
Oh, I'm ready for this.
D
From.
C
Wow.
D
Okay, next question. From. From Pussin Boo. Woods Poos. Oh, Puss in the Woods.
A
Oh, my God. No, no.
C
That might be the worst.
A
Oh, my God. Yeah.
C
You're kidding, right? You were joking. You were joking.
A
That has to be a gag, right?
C
It has to be like.
D
Yep. Gag.
B
Gag.
C
Sorry.
D
Can we get a repeat of that? Puss in Bewus. Top four favorite films. Desiree, do you want to start us off?
B
I'm ready.
A
Every time you clap, I'm gonna start. Yeah, let's go.
C
Okay.
D
Do it.
A
Okay.
B
She's the man. How was guy in 10 days? Hocus pocus, since it's, you know, that time month. And Frozen.
C
Frozen is a great movie, though, but, like, four favorite films, and I'm like, Frozen, guys.
A
Wasn't expecting it.
B
Ecstatic. When I got to see the Frozen Land in Disneyland Tokyo. Like, wow.
D
Well, yeah, now I understand why it's one of your top four favorites.
B
Oh, my gosh. I have, like, five Olaf's in my House. Yeah. Crazy girl Maddie next.
A
Okay, well, if we're going, like, Disney route, I will say, as much as I'm not a Disney adult, like, does is where I'm gonna, like, go wear, like, my mini ears around. I love a Disney movie. I will watch all of them. Like, Inside Out 2 sobbed.
B
Great movie.
A
Great movie. Encanto. Unbelievable movie. Will watch it any day. Watch Moana 2 a few weeks ago. Great movie, but, like, favorite movies of all time. She's the man is a fantastic movie. Oh, gosh. Basically anything with Julia Roberts. I'm obsessed with Julia Roberts, like, forever. And then since I've already listed a lot and I don't want Jenny to yell at me, I'll just pick one more. I don't know. I feel like I've listed off too many, so.
D
No, but you didn't do your top four. You were just talking about Disney films. You only did top three. I thought you only did two.
A
Well, I listed a lot of Disney.
B
There's so many good movies.
A
Like, there's so many good movies. And when Diane Keaton passed away a few weeks ago, Something's Gotta Give is, like, one of my favorite movies ever. I love Nancy Meyers, like, Parent Trap. Fantastic movie.
B
Oh, my gosh.
D
Yeah, of course.
B
Yeah.
A
So it's too, too hard for me to just name four.
C
Yeah. Honestly, me kind of, too. I always struggle with this question when they ask us these things in, like, press and stuff, and I'm like, how am I supposed to pick? Like, I don't even remember all of the movies. Yeah, I do love Mulan. Since we're talking Disney, I was obsessed with Mulan. The entire soundtrack, like, everything. So. So that's, like, one of my favorite Disney movies. I love Miracle Hockey Movie. When Team usa. Yeah. When the college. Great. Like, cry. Because it's just, like, super inspirational. Shawshank Redemption. Great.
B
Oh, it's a great movie.
C
Great movie. I also love, like, Tom Cruise films. Like, Jerry Maguire is pretty good. And like.
B
Like.
C
That'S a good movie. One of my favorites. I love the good.
B
All the Mission Impossibles.
C
Yeah, he. He definitely has, like, a few that I really like, but I don't know. There's. There's so many. Like, I don't even remember half the ones I've seen. Like, if I would, I'd be like, oh, that one, that one, that one. But those are just, like, a few off. I don't know if that was four almost. Was it four?
D
Yeah, that was four. Okay. So when I think of. Oh, you took the Words out of my mouth. When I think of favorite movies, I think of what's a movie that I've watched more than once? What's a movie that I've watched more than twice? What's a movie maybe I've watched more than three times? And I would say probably those would be in my category of like, favorite movie movies. Right. So I would say she's the Man. The Dark Knight Rises. Heath Ledger in that movie is like, top notch. Yeah. White Chicks and. Yeah. And Shrek.
B
Wild.
D
Yeah.
B
So White Chicks. Shrek is great.
C
When you started saying, like, how many movies I like, seen them, watched many times, I just thought of white chicks. I was like, all white chicks. I love that movie.
D
Yeah.
C
Also, I just watched Hitch the other day. That's also really such a good movie.
D
Bridesmaids. Bridesmaids, yeah.
C
Oh, Bridesmaids. So good. Honestly, all the Will Ferrell movies.
D
Yeah. Wait, there's so many movies that are coming to my mind now.
C
No, I know every movie Vince Vaughn is in. Will Ferrell, like, I could watch a million times.
D
We need to move on because Anne Hathaway. Yeah. Okay, next question from R21. Wong. Always wonder how you do your laundry and how often you do it when on tour. Desiree, do you want to give us a little breakdown of how you do your laundry?
B
Yeah.
D
Well, on to our tournament at home.
B
Well, usually at tournaments, they will provide laundry for us. So every day you throw it in and comes back, hopefully the next day. And hopefully you don't get anyone else's underwear or boxers or other stuff. But I think that's pretty self explanatory. Explanatory. But yeah.
D
Yeah. Which happens often. I get a little whitey tighty whities, a couple here and there, you know.
C
And I'm like, oh, yeah, I got.
B
Not mine.
C
Yeah, I got some boxer briefs. Earlier this year was weird.
A
I think you kind of know the tournaments that you don't bring your favorite things to because you might never see them again.
D
Yeah. Shrink.
A
One year I got a shirt back. It had a giant hole that was like singed all around it. The dryer was so hot, it burned a hole in my clothes.
C
And I was like, okay, yeah, stuff shrinks.
D
Oh, yes. And I'm like, oh, my gosh. Did I really gain, like that much weight in Europe? Like, what am I eating that good? So, yeah, I don't.
B
There are some tournaments that, you know, that they're either lost your clothes in the past, like, and you're just like, nope, I'm going to do it myself. Like, there are some tournaments. I definitely will go and do it myself because I know I'll get it back and it'll be a quicker. Sometimes it's a quicker turnaround if, like, I do it myself and I just don't get it in time. And then sometimes I will go and do my laundry myself if it smells so bad. Like, it sometimes doesn't feel like it. It's just, like, musty. And then I just. I also bring my own detergent on the road sometimes. Yeah, that's what weighs my bag.
C
I do.
B
I bring, like, the dryer, the sheets. I bring the laundry sheets.
C
I think it's definitely kind of an art, though, when the turnaround times are weird and then.
A
Hi, Pluto.
C
Hi, Pluto. And then, like, you're winning and then you're, like, going through clothes and then you have to, like, figure out, okay, should I try to play one more match? But I know that I'm going to finish past the laundry drop in time, and then I won't get it back the next day. I'll get it back the day after. But then if I lose, then I'm going to need my laundry and I'm going to fly to the next place. So I definitely have. You have to, like, pay attention a little bit to the times. I've definitely had the mishap before where, like, I didn't get my laundry back in time and someone else had to bring it to the next tournament because I was there before. And I've either had, like, a supervisor or trainer or some girl that's still in the tournament if they're nice enough, because obviously that adds to their bags. Fly it to the next tournament.
A
For me, the confidence you have to have when it's like, okay, I play a match today. I only have, like, one more match outfit. If I lose, I'm leaving. If I win, I need another outfit. Do I think I'm going to win today? Like, am I confident enough in myself that I'm gonna get this w. Or do I wash it in my bathtub?
D
Yeah, I go bathtub.
B
Yeah.
D
Sometimes I go bathtub or sink. And I'm like, you know, my head to head. Head to head is.05. It's not going in the tournament laundry tomorrow. We are looking at flights, just looking at the options.
B
I will say I know people who bring their own dryer, like a portable dryer, because, like, they wash it themselves and they bring their own portable dryer you can get on Amazon. And yeah, that's how they dry. If they need if they do a. If they do, like, a bathtub wash and then they throw it in the. Their personal dryer.
D
That's what I needed in Mexico back in two years. Would I.
C
Well, juniors and, like, playing the challengers, different story. You're washing half your clothes in the sink for sure.
D
Well, yes, like, hairs for all. Yeah.
C
Yeah.
D
And no. The best is you walk in the room and the elandry's just, like, hanging on whatever. Like, hanging on the lamp. Yeah, hanging on the lamp. Hanging on the chair. Hanging. Like, it was like, all the bathroom, and you walk in, you're like, ew, it stinks. So, like, on the air conditioning unit, like, gross.
A
Challenger days of all being in one hotel where they would. They would have, like, one washing machine in one dryer, and you were all, like, fighting to see.
C
You'd have to stay. You'd have to literally stay and be like, don't. Because then some people would just pull. Put your wet stuff on and then steal the dryer if, like, you went to dinner and you're, like, gonna risk, you know, just leaving it there so bad.
D
Last question from inebriated. How come you guys wear jewelry when you play? Wouldn't you think you wouldn't due to aerodynamics? Anyone want to answer?
B
I thought you butchered the word. So I was like. I did.
C
You did. I was like, that doesn't make sense. I couldn't tell.
B
Yeah.
D
Wouldn't you think you wouldn't due to aerodynamics? Like, you would want to be quicker.
A
It took me a full five to six seconds to process your words and be like, oh, no, that actually did make sense.
C
I thought it cut out.
B
Doo, doo, doo, doo.
D
Okay, should I ask one more time?
B
Yeah, but we're keeping that in.
A
Yeah, just throw it to someone and we'll answer.
D
Okay. Okay, last question from inebriated. How come you guys wear jewelry when you play? Wouldn't you think you wouldn't due to aerodynamics? Maddie?
A
I've never thought about it, to be honest. I'm a more is more kind of person when it comes to jewelry. I've got lots of holes in my ears. I wear lots of necklaces, lots of bracelets. I feel like I could probably add more aerodynamics. I don't think really matters in tennis. And if I don't get to, like, a drop shot or something, I doubt it's my jewelry. I don't think that's what's holding me back. So. Jess?
C
Same. I. Yeah. Try to wear as much as I can. I don't really feel like it's slowing me down at all. Yeah, I don't really, really have much to say. I feel like more jewelry, the better.
B
Yeah, I'm with you guys. Yeah, more jewelry, the better. I don't. Yeah, I definitely have never thought that far of, like, oh, it's gonna weigh me down, getting, you know, to the drop show, like you said, or getting back to that overhead.
D
Yeah, more, better. Well, sometimes I do think about it, but a main reason of why I'm not. Sometimes I'm like, I really need to cut my hair.
C
Hair. I have thought about it.
B
That's a good one. That's.
C
That's not jewelry.
D
But, yeah, I don't know. Sometimes I'm like, I forget. A lot of times I forget to put my earrings in, forget to put my necklaces on. The other day, I was actually after taking a shower, I was toweling off, and I guess I do it pretty aggressively, and my necklace actually came, like, off. Like, it came unhooked. So one of my fears actually now is the necklace coming off in the shower and then just going down the drain. But that's a topic for another day. Okay, thank you for the question.
