This is the players Box.
C
Hi, everyone. Welcome back to another episode of the players box. I'm Desiree Krapczyk alongside Jenny Brady, Madison Keys and Jess Pugula. A friendly reminder to give to A friendly reminder to please give our podcast five stars and subscribe on YouTube. YouTube. We are into the second week of the Australian Open. So by the time you hear this, only one of us will be left in the tournament. But we will get into that later. First, let's get into our unforced errors of the week. Madison, start us off.
B
I think my unforced error of the week is that I've been sitting around trying to think of a winner or unforced error for the entire week and I cannot think of quite literally anything. So I suck this week.
C
Jenny.
D
Well, I texted you guys yesterday. No. Wow. I texted you guys three days ago. Two days ago on. On Thursday when I arrived in LA and I was outside waiting for the rental car shuttle and flagging them down and I was wearing my backpack and I went to put my tennis bag down and then I ended up tripping over my tennis bag with my backpack on and almost face planted. But then yesterday I did face plant. I was at my friend's mom's. Okay. Yesterday I was at. I was. There was this yoga. Hold on. Not yoga. Sorry.
E
Oh, I have it. Oh, my gosh.
B
This story.
D
No, no, he's gonna clean it up. Okay, so should someone else go? Yesterday? No, no, yesterday, Yesterday, Yesterday I got on this thing and I was like, oh, I'm gonna do some like, you know, like back extensions or whatever. And so my feet. So it's for the people that are listening. It's called a ladder barrel. It is a Joseph Pilates original design. And I put my waist here on this machine here. And then my upper body was hanging off and my feet were back here. I went down and then I went to do a rep and I literally slipped and fell off the machine. The. The device, whatever you want to call it, and literally head first hit the ground. My head hit the ground. Forehead flat. On the ground first. And then I was just laying there with, like, my legs up in the air and my arms, like, just, like, dangling by my side. And when I got up, like, my forehead, like the moisturizer, like the grease moisturizer, like, there was just, like, an imprint on the floor from. From my forehead hitting. And honestly, I was like, oh, that really hurt. Like, I had a headache, like, all of yesterday, so. And I had a red mark. But, yeah, we can probably just cut out my story. So.
B
I feel like.
D
So I feel like my un. My unforced error of the week is I fell flat on my face.
B
But you gave yourself a concussion.
D
Yeah, my. I gave myself a concussion falling off of this Pilates machine face first.
E
There we go.
C
Joseph Claudi's got it.
D
Yeah, so edit that up.
B
We can clean that up in post.
C
Yeah.
D
Jesse, what's your unforced error of the week?
B
Should we run Jenny? There's some concussion protocol.
E
I don't really know what.
D
Just.
C
I don't know.
E
Story.
C
I'm crying.
E
Jenny's short circuiting a lot this afternoon or I guess, night for you. Oh, my goodness.
D
10:00Pm here.
E
How to follow up from that story? I mean, I spilled coffee on myself in dining when I wore a white. And I had a white shirt on that day.
D
Ooh, that's tough.
E
And then that's kind of all I got. It was tough. I think Jenny might get an auto win just from listening to that. Des, do you have anything like.
C
Well, yeah, I had an unforced error this week, so as you all know, I'm a. I'm a big napper, and I'm really good at napping anywhere. And it's like, a talent of mine. So I think the day before my one of my matches, I ended up taking, like, a quick power nap, which I usually do 26 minutes max in one of these back rooms. And in dining, there was, like, a couch, and I laid on it, and I ended up drooling in my hand. And my lovely coach Craig. Thanks, Craig. Snapped a pic of me and, yeah, I just. It was like I was laying like this and just. Yeah, it was a lot of drool. But I don't know if I can top Jenny, to be honest. Like, I'm still thinking about her story.
E
Wait, we also need to clip in the picture. I thought you were going to talk about the line you got on your forehead, because I was thinking how they were both forehead unforced errors.
D
Yeah, I literally was going to talk about.
C
That's actually. Well, I Guess I have two unforced airs then. But, yeah, I. The other enforced air is that I really got into my massage. And yes, I was in the physio room, for those of you listening, and I had this huge line on my forehead, and Jess was like, whoa, that's very prominent. And it was still there for a few hours after. So.
E
Okay, I said it was prominent because she sent a picture of it, by the way, to us. And then I was right there.
D
It was a huge index person.
C
Yeah, it was pretty bad.
D
But does you also have several winners you've used? You just. You've exhausted every service at the beauty bar this week at the Australia.
C
Yes, that is a winner.
B
I have.
C
Literally, if you're not watching, I just got my hair done, got the highlights in, got my toes done before this podcast, you know, did it all thing.
E
But, yeah, I think that's lashes and eyebrows. Yes.
C
And I got my lashes done the other day.
E
Wow.
C
And my nails. Okay, look at these nails. For those of you not watching, they're sick. But guess that's what happens when you're at a tournament. You got a couple more days.
E
Same.
C
You can see the little chrome on there. But. Okay, well, who won? Unforced error. Winner of the week, because that was a wild one. Jenny.
B
Jenny. Jenny won.
C
I think the storytelling, really? Yeah.
D
I need to improve on my storytelling, so not my. It's not one of my best qualities. It's one of my weaknesses. But.
B
Okay, well, with that, we're gonna move on. So, because our podcast is called the Players Box, we thought it was only natural to talk about what we prefer for our own players boxes. So question for everyone is, who do you actually want in the box? Des, we'll start with you.
C
Jenny, would you like to start? I definitely only like. Like a few people or people that I know are coming to the match. I definitely don't like surprises. There are sometimes people that box hop, if you know what that means. They go. They're like, in a lot of people's boxes. Players boxes. So I don't like that. Yeah, only a few people, but yeah.
E
Okay, Jenny, I like that you had to specify. It was the.
C
We are on Australia.
B
It wasn't weird until you specified.
E
Yeah, until you specified. Well, my brain went.
C
I will say we are in Australia. And when I've told people about our. Oh, what's the podcast's name? The players box, they're like, oh, interesting name. So I had to specify. Jess.
E
I usually don't like a lot of people. It's actually Something that I definitely had to get used to. It used to be just like me and David in my. Like, I would have nobody. I'd be like, nobody is allowed in there. And I've had to learn to kind of get over that. I do think it's interesting here. The coaches boxes are kind of on the court. On most of the big courts here in Australia, they do like the on court kind of sitting section. So it's kind of nice because you'll have more of like your coach, your fitness trainer, people that are actually like, with you for your tennis. And then you can kind of send like sponsors or friends or family back up in the stands where the old players box used to be. So I think that's kind of nice because it separates things, especially because it's so intimate and so close. Like, I don't really want to, like, go over there, like, stressed, probably complaining, probably, like trying to like, get fired up or whatever. And then you see some like, random person and I'm like, this is weird. So I've had to get used to that. Jenny?
D
Yeah, I think I'm the same usually. Just coach, physio, strength coach, whoever is really like, with me, like, consistently, like on a consistent basis. They would definitely like be sitting like front row. And then, you know, everybody else kind of, you know, scattered throughout. If you know, whether it's sponsors or whoever else, like family. But yeah, I think just less people is maybe better. But it's also nice like having people in the box. Like, I remember I played, you know, on like a stadium court and like my opponent's box was like, filled and then I had like one person in mind and I was like, oh, but yeah, I think it all depends, like, personal preference. Now if like somebody like, like a really good friend or something, like came in the middle of the tournament and they wanted to sit in the box, then I would be like, yeah, sure, like, no problem. As long as, like what dad, what DEZ said. As long as it's like I don't look at the box and I'm like, wait, when did you get here? And then I'm like, you know, no new faces without knowing, you know, who's sitting there.
B
But Maddie, I. I've always liked kind of small group of people, but also like, everyone has already said you have sponsors and people who are coming in and out. So I always used to be the queen of like, yeah, they can come to the match, but like, you got to find tickets all over the stadium, which always makes people's lives a little Bit harder. But I've always been, if you start there, you can finish there. But if someone came in mid tournament, I was like, no, no, no.
E
You.
B
If you weren't there when we started, you're not there at the end. So those were kind of always my roles.
E
Oh.
C
Oops. Well, I did that to you in Adelaide. I just showed up to one of your matches and sat in your box.
B
Well, that's fine. Oopsie.
C
But you won, so that was good.
D
Yeah.
E
Not again.
B
That's fine. You just, like, bring. Bring good energy to the side of the court.
D
Yeah.
B
What do you guys think is good etiquette for when you are in the player's box?
E
Oh, can't be late. I hate when people are late. I think that's kind of. Taylor, my husband, has made it his kind of job to. He's like the manager of the box. He's tried to, like, somehow he's.
C
He loves that.
E
And yeah, like, he's like, I'm gonna go get there early and, like, make sure. Okay. Because sometimes I will say, not so much at the Slams, but maybe at smaller tournaments, people get tickets and they, like. It gets confusing. And sometimes you get that, like one usher that doesn't understand, or you get a person that comes in and thought, maybe their badge gets them into the box, but then they need to go get a ticket. There seems to always be something that kind of goes wrong, but for some reason, that might just be a tailored problem, probably. But I will say, being on time, you can't just be, like, shuffling through, you know, in the middle of the match. Like, you gotta commit just to show face.
D
Yeah. Yeah, Jenny. Yeah. Have to be on time. Not too obnoxious, I think, like, respectful of the opponent. Also, like, don't embarrass me, you know, or yourself, but mainly me, because you're in my box. Yeah, Des.
C
Yeah. I'm kind of piggybacking off Jenny. I. I have, like, a few friends that I love when they come and support or whenever they're at. And, like, sometimes, like, I had a friend here, she loves cheering, and sometimes she gets into it, she's like, come on, dez, she really like, which I love. I love that she's passionate. But, like, come on, right here. Let's go. And I'm like, okay, Morgan, thanks. And then we were actually playing Nick, and she was like, come on, do it again.
D
Yeah.
C
And so I looked at her. Morgan, you're gonna rile him up. Like, she didn't know what I was saying, but I was like, and it was just really funny, but, like, she gets it. I feel like your friends, if they know, like, when to be rowdy, when to not. But yeah, I think if you're in the player's box, you kind of have to be somewhat low key. I feel like. Unless you're that person that wants that energy. But it's nice if it's scattered everywhere around the stadium.
B
I do always find it really funny when it's. It's been a long set or you. You're going into the third, and it's been, you know, two hours or whatever, and maybe you're not paying attention, and you look up and everyone is gone because they have, like, a minute for their bathroom break, and they all take off running. And it's always, like, the mad dash to get back before the next set starts. So sometimes you look over, and it's just emptiness, and you're like, oh, okay, everyone. They come back. But when is. Like, when is it? When is noise? Like, too much to the point where it becomes annoying? Or, like, I'll say my big pet peeve is if someone is in the box and I've lost the point, and I look and I see, like, the head thrown back, hands up in the air. Nothing makes me angrier than seeing that.
D
No, literally, I get more frustrated at that than the ball that I missed. I'm like, why are you getting pissed? Like, do you want to come play?
E
Like, yeah, exactly.
D
Do you want to do it? Like, good luck. Like, let's switch roles.
E
Gives the.
D
That's when Des gives the sarcastic thumbs up to the box.
C
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sometimes my biggest pet peeve is, like, when I'm looking, but, like, I think it's just annoyance. I'm, like, looking at the box, and I'm, like, wanting something, but it's just because then I'm getting a reaction, and I'm just like, ugh, say something. But, you know, it's like, no, he knows better. Like, okay, Craig knows better. So I think it all just depends on the person. But I think everyone has different pet peeves.
B
It depends on the guideline, I guess. Like, my last question is reverse etiquette. Player to the player's box. Which do you think is worse? When you hit them with the thumbs up or you do the. You, like, put your racket towards them and be like, do you want to come do this? Like, which. Which do we think is worse?
D
I've never done.
C
Tough call.
D
I've never done.
E
I've never done either.
D
I've never Done.
B
I've never done. I've never done either. But I've seen both happen. And I don't know which one. If I was the coach and that happened too, which one would make me angrier?
D
I think the thumbs up would get. I think the thumbs up would make me so angry because it's just.
B
Des, you've thrown the thumbs up at someone. Tell us your thoughts.
D
Yeah, dez.
B
Okay.
C
After I threw. So for those of you who didn't hear the story, my coach told me where to serve, and I ended up actually going the wrong way anyways, but I still gave him a thumbs up. I just realized that he just told me that it is not. After the match, I was like, I'm so sorry. I did that because, like, it was. It was really bad. And it's just the sarcastic thumbs up. But, yeah, I definitely wouldn't want the thumbs up thrown at me.
D
Wait, dez.
C
Yeah?
D
You said you went the wrong way. So he said cover T and you thought he said cover wide and you.
C
No, no.
E
So.
C
So he said go T and then I go left or right and I end up going the wrong way. And then, like, I still hit the T serve, but, like, I still hit him with a thumbs up. Cause, like, it was his fault, but actually it was my fault. I went the wrong way.
B
Yeah, he told me. He told me this story like a week ago. He was like, yeah, I tell her what to do, she gets up there. She goes the wrong way, hits me with a thumbs up, and I look at the couch I'm sitting next to and it's like, she's an idiot. I should stop him in the right direction.
C
Why is she hitting me with the thumbs up? So, yeah, I don't. Yeah, they're both pretty bad, but thumbs up's pretty, pretty, pretty bad. But another news around the grounds, but in tennis headlines, Stan Vavrinka just retired. Well, I guess not retired. Sorry stuff. Stan Vavrinka just played his last Australian Open and he cracked a beer with Craig Tylee after his last match. He lost to Taylor Fritz. Did anyone see that?
E
Yes, I watched some of that. I think some of us were watching and texting each other because it was a good match there for a bit. But, yeah, I mean, I feel like Stan Vavranka has such an underrated career. Like, he beat. Yeah. The big three in slams in huge matches. And I feel like nobody talks about it. Like, nobody gives him the credit that he deserves. And also, his one handed backhand is just.
D
Yeah, Chef's stunning.
E
Like magic. He had a couple against Taylor and I was like rooting for Taylor, but also like, you know, Stan's like, you know, it's kind of like just, I don't know, you're not happy with the outcome either way because you want to see him still win.
D
But.
E
But he had a couple one handed backhands. I was like, oh, gosh, so pretty.
C
Yeah, he kind of did the Jess thing. Jess coated beer after the match, but cheers it with Craig. So. Yeah. Did you see his shirt actually as well where he had a little bit of his check French open print.
E
I think it was the French Open. The Roland Garros.
C
When he won.
E
He won. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. He had like plaid shorts and he has he. So on his shirt they did like a little trim on the inside of his buttons. Like a. An ode to like the shorts that he wore, which were crazy when he won.
C
Wildcats. Yeah. And speaking of fashion statements, Naomi Osaka's wilds and out there outfit. Did anyone see that? It was like a. Was it blue dress and she came out with like a. It looks kind of like a veil with the hat.
E
You know what I kept thinking of was Parent Trap.
C
I knew. Yes, yes. Same.
B
Yes.
E
I was like, this is very Parent Trap. If anyone that doesn't know the scene where she's trying. The mom is trying on the bridal stuff and she puts on like a white kind of like top hat with a veil underneath. That scene from that movie is all I could think about when I saw Naomi walk out.
C
Yeah, I mean, she shredded that walk though. But it was. She also had pants on.
E
Right.
C
There were white pants and it was like an o. It was like an ode to her daughter that she loved. Jellyfish. Is that what that was?
B
I think she said she was reading her a bedtime story and was inspired. I really liked. I thought the. The photographs that she took with like the silhouette and the hat and the umbrella. Those are cool. Those were very beautiful.
C
Yes, the umbrella as well. She came with the umbrella. Right. She was holding out in front. How about our fellow American, eva Jovic making fourth round? 18 year old making the fourth round.
D
Yeah, yeah.
E
Good for Eva. Love Eva. I think she's really good.
D
Very good.
B
Love that. I'm a big. I'm a big Eva Jovic fan.
D
Yeah, I think we all have.
C
Who is she playing next round? Does anyone know?
B
I believe she plays Sabalenka next round.
E
Yeah, yeah.
B
Eva trains in Orlando some. She just recently moved there, so she'll be training there, I think a little bit More than she previously was. But she is, like, the hardest worker. She loves tennis. She's literally there all hours of the day. And I just. I love her attitude and her maturity for how young she is is so impressive.
C
So it's.
B
It's really cool to kind of watch all these, like, younger girls who are, like, doing all the right things, just have, like, immediate success.
D
I spent a year with her sister Mia at ucla. She's. She's on the tennis team there. So I got to know her really well. And actually, when I was at UCLA and I was taking classes and volunteer assistant coaching, I. Eva came on a visit, and I actually took her to one of my classes. And we still joke about it now because in. Literally in the class, I look over, she's next to me, and she's passed out full on asleep. And I took a video of her falling literally full on asleep. And she was doing the twitches and everything, too, while she was asleep. And I was like, hello. Like, wake up. And then she was like, oh, man. And she, like, shouted so loud or something. Like, I can't remember what she said, but I was like, shh. Like, you can't. Like. I was like, keep it down, youngster. Keep it down. But, yeah, she's super sweet, Good family. Yeah. Just wish her nothing but the best.
C
Well, speaking of youngsters, did anyone see the clip of Mira and Dreeva? There's kind of like, a little debate if she said f you all or love you all. Did anyone see that?
D
I mean, Des, what did you think she said?
C
I'm gonna say she said f you all because it's pretty clear you can't say love you all by going with your. Yeah, I don't even know how to explain it, but she definitely said f you all.
D
You can't say love with an F. Exactly.
E
But I thought she said thank you all. Not like, that was. I thought that was the not love thing. I don't think that's what she said. I just.
C
Yeah, we're gonna need the fans to tell us what they thought in the comments, so write what your responses are. But she definitely. She definitely said f you all.
B
She could have said thank you all.
E
Yeah, thank you. I kind of. The thank you is possible.
D
Thank you.
B
She.
C
She could have.
B
And also, like, who knows? AI is crazy. Like, it could have just been AI.
D
Okay.
C
Putin Saba dancing to the crowd after her win. Did the crowd like that and even see it?
D
But I. I don't know, but I think the Australian fans should comment if they liked Poots dancing or not? I don't know.
F
I don't know.
D
What kind of moves did she whip out?
C
She did this.
E
She had a lot of moves.
C
She did this.
B
She had a lot of moves.
E
There was a lot of dance.
C
She had some. Oh, maybe a little booty shake. I don't know.
E
Yeah.
D
She was twerking out there.
C
She was firing up the G.
E
She played a Turkish girl and they had a ton of Turkish fans on. What court was it again? What's that court called?
C
Kia.
B
Was it on key?
E
No, it's the other one that's. It gets rowdy.
C
Okay.
E
Yes. And that court gets pretty rowdy usually. And. Yeah, but she loves it, though.
B
She, like, thrives.
C
She feeds off of it.
E
She thrives. I think it's entertaining. I think it's funny.
D
I agree. I think I love it.
E
She used it as motivation, so. But she definitely whipped out a lot of moves.
B
She's had a few matches this ao that the crowd was rowdy because she played bia first round.
C
Yeah.
B
And same thing. The Brazilian crowd was going nuts. And same thing. I mean, Julia thrives on an environment like that.
C
Against her.
D
Yeah, against her.
E
Yeah.
D
Yeah. I'd be like, sorry, go ahead.
C
No, go ahead.
D
I was just going to say I would. I would tell the crowd to shut up.
B
Like.
D
Like, don't cheer for me.
C
Cheer for boots.
E
You can't, like, reverse it. Yeah.
C
What about Victoria? Vicky Imboko reveals her new partnership with Rolex. Sabanka's now with Gucci as an ambassador. Does anyone have any dream collabs they would want?
E
Reese's Orle Floren.
D
Ooh.
C
Wow. Big, big change there.
B
Big difference. Almost the same.
D
Pretty similar. They both start with R.
E
Ralph Lauren. I don't know. Like, that's. I don't know. That would be pretty cool. I don't know if I could pull off Gucci. I think it's a little too. It's not my. It's not my style, but I think it's cool that these big, like, fashion designer brands are getting into tennis. I think it's neat. I think. Who is a sinner with Gucci? Is he the one that had the Gucci bag walk out?
D
Is with Louis Vuitton.
E
Moose Musetti wore the Bottega jacket. Like, I think that stuff is really cool.
C
That was sick.
D
Yeah.
E
Yeah. I think it's. I think it's pretty neat, so.
B
Oh, I mean, Coco has the Miu.
D
Miu collabs and all of that with New Balance.
B
Those have been really cool. I Would happily take any designer brand.
C
Same. I'm not picky.
B
Same doesn't have to be my exact style. I'll change for them. It's fine. Just tell me what to do.
D
I'll take what I can get.
E
Jenny, who would you. If it was a designer, not Reese's, who would you pick? Who would be.
D
Also, it's Reese's, not Reese's.
E
Sorry.
C
As we've learned.
D
Yes. No, obviously I was joking, but.
C
Oh, my gosh, no.
D
Well, I gotta support my hometown. You know, Pennsylvania.
E
Is that a state or a town?
D
I mean.
E
Sorry.
D
I mean, my.
E
Yeah, my home state, Pennsylvania.
B
No, seriously, should we, like, run Jenny through concussion?
E
I think it's too late for Jenny. She is like.
C
She's deep in that.
D
It's. It's 10:30.
E
We're gonna need to.
D
Who would be my dream? Anybody.
B
Can you name Beyler designer?
D
Ysl.
E
What did you say?
B
Okay, there you go. Ysl.
C
We take it so good. Okay, what about. Did you guys see the heat rule in force during Sinner's match with Spaziri? I think it was middle of the second set when it happened, and Sinner was visibly, I think, cramping, and he complained to the chair empire, I think, to say, like, hey, like, is there like a heat rule in force or if they were delaying it?
E
Maddie, you want to give your intel?
C
Yeah.
B
Well, when. I guess for those of you who aren't on the grounds, we have on the TVs around the site, they have like a heat index and it goes from 1 to 5 and it goes up by 0.1. And if it's. It's 5, if it gets to a 5, it's suspension and roofs are closed. And it's like a combination of, I think, the humidity and the heat and the on court temperature, because obviously the tennis court makes it hotter. I know that when, like, when I finished my match and I think, Jess, you finished a little bit before me. When we went out, it was at. It was like a 1.2 or something. When we walked out on court, by the time we got off, it was already at a 2.7, which is still fine. Like, it's still good playing conditions. And then it was like 20 minutes later, it was already up to a 4. And then from there, it just shot up super quick. So the heat definitely kind of came all at once. And I think Janik was asking because he was obviously physically struggling, and I think he was kind of just trying to see, like, how much longer or, like, do we think the roof is Going to close. Because if it did, then obviously that completely changes things. And it. I think the heat or the heat index definitely came in right in the nick of time for Jannik.
C
Yeah, he was down 3:1.
D
Right.
C
End up being 3:1 down. And then I think Spaziri was like, it was just interesting timing as to how all that unfolded. So. But yeah, it was. It was crazy out there. All the matches were delayed for two and a half hours out on the outside courts that didn't.
B
They were delayed way longer than that.
C
Yeah, originally they were delayed two and a half, and then they kept pushing it back 30, 45 because it was so hot until I think they went on Court at 7:30pm and they had to cancel a bunch of matches outside and then finish the ones that were still in progress. But crazy day.
E
Yeah. I mean, the heat's no joke here. I do think, like, I think he kind of knew it was gonna close at some point because they knew that the heat index was gonna get up there. And now that they have roofs on everything, they're able to close them. But, yeah, it's tough. Some players just don't do as well in the heat. It's like sometimes, you know, cramping doesn't even. It doesn't really matter, like, how good a shape you are in, clearly, because Yannick obviously is in amazing shape. So it. Yeah, it just came in the. In the nick of time, I guess.
C
Maybe you got to use those ice towels, ladies. You know, engines pre cooling out there.
E
In the second set.
C
It's hot out there. Well, besides yourselves, what's your favorite storyline of the tournament so far? I feel like there's been a lot.
E
Yeah.
B
Eva being in the quarters so far. Yeah, my favorite.
E
And also before she made two finals before coming into here. She's been hot.
D
Yeah. Yeah. She's in fuego.
E
Yeah.
B
Bjorn. Bjorn was saying when we were practicing with her in December, he was like, she's gonna be top 20 in like three months. And then after today, I was like, did you mean three weeks?
D
Yeah.
C
And also Maddie Inglis. I mean, she's the latest player to make quarterfinals of Australian Open, which I think is really cool. So cool for her.
E
Does she make. Does she make quarters? Oh, yeah. Cause she played. No. No. Or did she make fourth round?
B
She's in the round 16.
C
Sorry.
E
Ignore me.
B
Des doesn't know what's going on.
C
Yeah, clearly third round. Of course you can. We can start that over.
B
So it goes first round, second round, third round, fourth round.
C
See, doubles is different quarters. See Double quarters. I really.
B
Fourth round.
C
Clearly missed that whole other round. You guys have clearly not locked right now.
D
Yeah. Did you have some martinis?
C
Honestly, I probably should have too much.
D
You should. With that hair. With that hair day you got going on. Should hit the town tonight.
B
Too much bleach.
C
Yeah, too much bleach at the head. Gotta get a check. The concussion test, too.
D
Yeah.
E
Any fave stories, storylines from the men's side?
D
Dard. How do you say his name? Dardiri Dardary, The Italian guy. Did anybody else see that video?
E
No.
D
Of him, like, after the match, like, finishing the match and then literally sprinting off the court. I was like, oh, oh.
C
Cause he had to go to the bathroom. Yeah. That's your favorite story. On the men's side.
B
What's your favorite storyline that would.
C
Because it deals with a bathroom.
D
So funny. He literally. Guys, you have to look up the video. It's pretty funny. Like.
C
Yeah.
D
He literally is halfway through. Yes. He went over to his opponent's side of the net to say, like, good match, whatever. And then literally sprinted off the court like he had to go.
E
In other headlines, I don't know if anybody else saw Trinity Rodman sign for $1 million salary, which was kind of a huge story. I think we kind of touched on it before that they didn't really want to pay her. Just. Well, I don't know if they didn't want to. It's just not, I guess, been done in women's soccer. So that's kind of crazy. She's, I think, the highest paid female soccer player. Yeah.
D
Yeah.
E
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read that.
D
I'm pretty sure it's a three year. One million a year.
E
Yeah. Her salary is one.
C
Washington.
E
Washington.
B
She's staying in D.C. spirits.
E
Yeah. Yeah. Staying in Washington. Yeah. Paid soccer female in the world, which is pretty crazy. I guess. She. She got what she thought she was supposed to get paid in the end.
D
Yeah.
B
Trinity paving the trouble.
D
She got what she wanted.
E
I love that. So clock it. We love that for her. I love that. Trinity. That's. Yeah. And also other news. The bills, unfortunately. It's been quite. It's been. We've been quite in.
C
In the news.
E
We lost against Denver. There's a lot of controversy with the final catch on our final. Well, our final catch on the final drive. And then we ended up firing our coach a couple days later. It was pretty funny, actually, the other day before my match, like. And then my dad in the GM had a press Conference and it was like on espn. So I was in the physio room and ESPN is on and like jp, my physio was like, is that your dad? And I was like, oh God. I was like. And it was the press conference. But yeah, people are kind of losing their minds so I don't really know what else to say. I guess it'll be interesting. Obviously can't, I can't really divulge too much.
B
Did you see the.
C
There was like a petition against was it to reinstate?
E
And I'm like, oh, that's great.
C
I saw that.
B
I was like, whoa.
E
Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's a lot. It seems very dramatic. I think, you know, it's kind of, I don't know, the end of the year season. I don't think there's a lot of news. You know, there's only a few teams left and everyone's kind of running with a lot of different stories from what I've seen.
D
Yeah.
E
But thanks to Sean, I think we had an amazing. I think it was nine years. He took us from 17 year playoff drought. Kind of shifted the whole team and the culture and you know, so it's kind of sad. It's the end, end of an era. But yeah, we'll see. I guess there's still, I think still people being interviewed and it's going to be a little bit before we have a new head coach, but yeah, a lot of drama there. So Josh is still there though? Kind of, yeah. Jenny's still happy. Switching topics. Does anyone watch Heated Rivalry or Tell me Lies? I personally have it all downloaded and have not watched either, so I have no idea. But does you watch?
C
I watched the first two seasons of Tell Me Lies. I downloaded the latest one and then have not seen Heated Rivalry yet.
E
So.
C
Anyone else? Jenny, have you watched? Yeah, which one?
D
I watched both. Oh, thoughts?
C
Give us your thoughts. Don't spoil anything.
D
Yeah, I'm not gonna spoil but I also jumped into Heated Rivalry and.
E
I.
D
Missed the first couple episodes because my friend was watching. So I just watched from what episode that she was on and it was episode four. So I started on episode four and four, five, six. Six. I think it's six episodes. So I've seen three episodes but I thought it was great and the acting was really good. I heard the, the main actor, the Russian hockey player, he, he's from Texas and he learned Russian in like a week or two or something. And honestly like phenomenal acting and he has a great butt.
B
Yeah, he's wow, so subtle.
D
He's got a great butt.
C
So you started. So you start. You skipped a couple episodes.
D
Yeah, I skipped the beginning. I mean, my friend gave me like the lowdown. Apparently, like maybe the first episode was maybe like not G rated.
C
A little raunchy. Oh, a little raunchy for Jennifer.
D
Yeah. Okay.
B
Cover your eyes.
D
Yeah, apparently he said he does squats below 50% knee bend and that's why his butt is so round. Maybe I need to start doing that. I'm probably doing squats above 50% knee bend.
E
Huh?
D
Okay, but.
C
No pun intended.
E
Yeah.
D
No.
C
Oh, my God. Jenny.
B
She just complained.
D
I'm sorry, guys. I'm sorry, but tell me lies. I actually watched the first season and then season three came out and dez, you and I watched the first season together in la. Yeah, and I didn't watch season two and I watched season three. I finished season three.
C
And you just skipped a whole season?
E
I can't do that.
C
What? That's like. Wait, you're like skipping episodes and then like you skipped a whole season?
D
Yes, that's how I do things. That's how I do things.
B
Oh, okay.
C
Well.
D
But yeah, I thought it was really good, except it made me so frustrated. But I'm not gonna spill any.
C
It's a very. It's a very toxic show.
D
Yeah. Yes. Extremely toxic. Extremely toxic. Entertaining, but very entertaining. Yeah, you just keep coming back for more.
C
Close your eyes, exhale, Feel your body.
E

B
With that, we are going to move on to who am I. Jess, do you want to give us a recap of your clues from last week?
E
Yes. So my clues from last week were she earned her college degree in business administration while still playing. She once played the longest match in Wimbledon history and she is a vegan. So I think some people commented. I saw some people got it right. But it is Venus Williams who played an incredible match here in Australian Open. So I was just, I guess trying to stay on theme, but it was Venus. So not sure if anyone guessed that right. But Maddie, you have a person this week.
B
Yes. Is everyone ready?
C
Ready.
B
So the second youngest player to earn a ranking total reign at number one lasted over seven years and won a golden Slam.
E
Okay.
B
Des tried to guess and she's wrong.
D
Oh, she tried to guess.
C
Yes.
D
Oh, dang. Okay, let's move on to some fan questions. Okay, first question from Bowen. Do you prefer tournaments held combined with ATP in a larger city or just a WTA only event? Possibly in a smaller town like Bad Homburg. He must be from Bad Homburg.
E
No one else knows Bod Homburg.
D
Unless no one else knows Bad Homburg.
E
I always go Hamburg, Germany. Like no Bod Humberg.
D
Yeah, Jessica.
E
I like the mix up. It's way less busier if it's not combined, which is nice. But then sometimes I do like seeing different people and different faces and kind of like following some of the men's results. But you know, love like Charleston where it's only girls and it's just a lot easier, less people, just. Yeah, not as much chaos. Maddie.
B
I mostly prefer women's only events. They're just way more calm and it's easier to practice and things are usually cleaner. The boys leave stuff everywhere, especially in the gym. But yeah, I mean, like Jess said, it's also fun sometimes to like see the guys around and get to follow their matches. And I mean we're very close to a lot of them, so getting to see them occasionally is nice.
C
Yeah, I kind of like you guys said, I love the only WTA only events. It's just nice to have our own space. And it's just like you said, cleaner. But it's less chaotic, that's for sure. And you're not having to fight for courts and you can kind of hit twice if you want. Maybe that's just the dubs players, but you know, I don't know, it's just easier. Jenny. Jenny.
B
Is jesus a ride?
D
I'm so sorry. No, I. I think. No, I'm not. Okay. I think a little bit of what everyone said. I don't think I really need to.
B
Answer, to be honest. You okay? Oh, my God.
C
Okay. Okay.
B
Moving on to the next question.
D
Next question from Francis. What are the expectations of you for media days, press conferences and photo shoots at a tournament? I noticed some players are more involved in than others, even with the same sponsors. Is that due to their popularity hence for publicity or depends on their contract involvement? Desiree.
C
That'S. I don't know why that's funny. Oh, my gosh. Jenny, has you laughed?
B
Kickles.
C
Oh. Honestly, I don't have that much media and expectations from my side of things, which is kind of nice because I don't have to get hounded with like all of that. But for like sometimes the photo shoots, I think for WTA, they just want to get your headshots for every year, just depending on your sponsorship changes. Or you can also request to do that if you want. But yeah, only if I'm like in the semis or finals, I'll get asked for press conference. So that's the goal.
D
Get there.
C
Get there. Jess.
E
I mean, we usually, we get asked right after we play. There are some times where we don't have anything, which is great. I feel like sometimes that's after a loss, like an early loss. That's your reward sometimes is you can kind of like get out of there pretty quick. But yeah, I mean, we always have some sort of media obligations. I think for the big tournaments and for Slams usually top players also are required to give about an hour of media, you know, at like Miami or Indian Wells Grand Slams for sure. It just kind of depends on where you are. But I think if you're, I want to say maybe like top 15. I think you're usually always giving like an hour media day at the big events before. And then everything is always obviously after you put play matches, follow ups with press conference and stuff like that. I would say photo shoots at tournament. It just depends on what sponsors are in those cities, at least for me. I know Indian Wells is always a popular place that every sponsor likes to shoot at because it's, you know, pretty and nice and they rent houses there and stuff like that. So I know that week is always kind of crazy. What do you think, Maddie?
B
Yeah, I mean, I think you kind of covered it all. I think the only other thing is occasionally you'll see if someone has like a hotel deal or something else pop up. Sometimes you're required to do something for the hotel or a car dealership or something like that. So you'll get the random Requests at.
C
Different.
B
Tournaments in cities, but that's pretty much it.
C
Do you guys ever get fined or say, like, you didn't want to do a media and you're like, no, like, I. I just don't want to do it. Like, you guys actually get fined or can you guys get, like, a leniency of like, a warning or say, like, just not today.
B
No, no.
C
Every time.
B
You'll get it.
E
Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
D
Okay. Next question from Kavisha. What's one thing each of you has personally learned through doing the player's box together? Apparently nothing.
C
Oh, I thought you were going to answer.
B
We're all working on patience, I think.
D
Yes, patience. That's a great one, Maddie. Patience.
C
Learning each other's limits on audio.
E
Sound, Audio connections.
D
Patience, which goes along. Learning each other's habits, I guess. No, what's the word?
C
This is patience. Yes.
D
Yeah. What?
E
There's patience.
B
Do you want. I'm going to guess what Jenny's saying.
C
Yes.
D
Maddie is my brain. Yeah.
B
Yeah. Let me see if I get this right. Learning how to, like, read each other and know who's going to speak and, like, when you have an opening to kind of jump in. Because we really try not to talk over each other, but it's also hard because we're all in different places. So just trying to, like, read each other to see when we're done with stories or who's gonna jump in next.
D
Hit the nail on the head.
C
Yeah.
B
Love it.
D
Nailed it.
C
What, Jess?
E
The time zones.
D
Time zone, yeah.
E
Planning and scheduling. I have not actually learned, but it's there. I still don't get it. Right.
D
But now I just use ChatGPT.
E
Yeah, yeah, we've all technology, I guess we've.
C
We've learned a lot and. Yeah, yeah, it's still learning. Learning.
D
It's just bringing us closer together.
C
Yes.
E
With patience.
B
Lots of patience.
D
Yes, Lots of patience. Okay, well, thanks, everybody, for the fan questions. Please leave us a rating and review. It helps people find out about the podcast. Jenny, you need to go do some meditation. Wiggle your fingers, get sensation into your hands and toes.
E
And Jenny's gonna fall asleep.
D
And I'm literally about to hit the hay right behind me.
C
