Hi everyone. Welcome back to the Players Box. I'm Desiree Krakik alongside Jenny Brady, Madison Keys and Jess Spagula. When I was flying home from Charleston, I was kind enough to take my mom's roller bag with me back to Florida and I put it in the overhead bin and it was a really tight squeeze. And when we landed and I was taking it out, I was yanking at it and it wouldn't budge. And then I just pulled really hard and I wasn't really like prepared for the bag to like come out that fast and it was pretty heavy. So I actually tripped on my own like two feet and fell back completely on my into the empty row behind me and the bag flew out of my hand and may have hit someone.

[Jess Spagula]

All of that just sounds so bad.

[Madison Keys]

Yeah, so I but I completely fell, like fell fully in the row behind me. Like I was that Life Alert commercial. I've fallen and I can't get up. So that was my unforced error. It was really embarrassing. And then I just kind of put my hood on and walked away slowly. Left the airport quickly.

[Jess Spagula]

Jesse, I don't know which one to pick. I have two pretty good ones, but I'll do the one that was more my fault. So I am planning on like renovating some of my house and I called the guy or actually I texted him yesterday on the drive back from Charleston. I said, hey, I'm so sorry, I've been mia, just like been really busy between obviously all the tournaments and stuff like that. But I didn't say anything. I kept it very vague. I just was like, hey, I've been really busy, sorry, would love to catch up you this week. Can I call you around this time tomorrow if that's okay. And he was like, yeah, great, sounds good. And so I called him today. Five minutes into the conversation, we're just like, oh yeah, like, where have you have you been? Like, just vague things. I realized I'm talking to the wrong person. It was not the guy that is supposed to be redoing my house. It is someone else from the tennis world. I won't say, like, I mean, it doesn't really matter about the names, but I won't say the name. And I was like, oh my God, this isn't the guy. Like, what am I doing? And I texted them yesterday. I like planned the call. It was the complete wrong person. And I was just like, I'm so embarrassed. I'm so sorry. But like, I thought you were somebody else. Like I called the wrong person. I thought you were the guy doing my house renovations. And I just completely like put my foot in my mouth and he was like totally fine because he was like just laughing at me, like, oh yeah, I think if we would have started talking about that, like I would have told you very quickly. Like, that's not me. But it was so bad. It was so embarrassing. So embarrassing. It was awful. And so I ended up calling the right person and he picked up and it was fine. But yeah, that was pretty bad.

There's nothing new on my part for my unforced air. It's like the most typical me thing ever. But I have somehow run into every single wall, burned my finger, like slammed it in a door, dropped something on my foot, smashed my like bent my fingernail backwards yesterday. I've been home for barely 24 hours and I've injured myself 15 times since I got home. And like every 20 minutes I'm like, ow. And Bjorn's like, what did you do now? And I'm like, nothing, I'm fine, leave me alone. And he's like, I genuinely don't understand how you're still alive. But yeah, nothing new. But like record setting injuries on my part does.

[Desiree Krakik]

My unforced error was my travel day after the finals. It was quite the travel day. So I left late out of Charleston and I had a connecting Flight through Dallas Fort Worth, and I'm ready already arriving late to go home, but leaving Dallas around like 10pm and we board the plane, everyone's boarded and we're ready to go. And they say, sorry guys, we have a maintenance issue. We're going to have to deplane everyone. So we're all like, okay, like that's fair. You know, we're not complaining. So then we get off the plane. Then they say, actually it's going to be a two hour wait till we find a new plane. So then everyone was like, ugh. Okay. So we waited for the plane, got on the plane, boarded everything again, leave the gate, we're waiting to take off and leave. And they go, hi, it's your captain here. The plane's a little overweight so we're gonna have to go back to the gate and see what's going on and see if we need to remove any bags or anything. And we were all like, you've got

to be kidding me.

[Desiree Krakik]

We're already delayed two hours and that was an extra hour added to it. So instead of getting home at midnight, I got home at 4:30 in the morning. It was, it was quite the travel day, but we made it.

[Jess Spagula]

So.

Yeah, so that was my first error. Yeah, it wasn't fun. So I think that's why I've been up at like 4:30 in the morning because I'm just like on that schedule now.

Going to your early Pilates classes.

Oh my gosh.

Oh, the replacement trophy is here. I broke like the top part right here. So this wasn't like horrible, but it's still pretty bad. It was sitting on like a table and it was at the edge and I have no idea, like why this is just because I just don't. I don't know what's wrong with me. It's like on the edge of the table and I had a carry on suitcase opened underneath, like next to the table. And I was in the kitchen and I have no idea how. I think it was like balancing on something and I don't know why I didn't think like, this is a bad idea. I just kind of let it happen, but it fell off of the table onto the carry on suitcase. But thank God I had something in the carry on that was open or else it would have completely like shattered. So it's actually a miracle that the pointy part at the top is the only thing that broke. And I didn't really tell anybody until I got a new trophy and then I didn't feel as bad about it.

Well, you know, the trophies are like blown glass. Like someone. Yeah, yeah, I found that out last year.

I think the one this year is slightly different. There's like a black checkered part that I think is slightly different than last

year because yours has a little bit of the purple and the yellow.

[Jess Spagula]

Yeah. Like the orange and the purple. And then there's like a black thing, like, woven in between them. But I don't think that was there last year. I think it's different.

Yeah, it was wild. It was packed.

Yeah. That's when my mom tried to get on.

There's so much extra going on that I feel like any extra moment is literally dedicated to all other things. So I always really like the Charleston week because it's like you actually get to hang out with your friends and

go to dinner and do things just so easy.

Everything is just easier, quieter, calmer. Yeah. A lot more fun, for sure.

And what is next for everyone? I think. Well, most of us have a little bit of downtime. I don't know if anyone else can see, but DEZ is prepping and packing for her next trip already.

Well, this is me still unpacking from Charleston. Um, but yeah, I'm heading out to. I'm playing Stuttgart. Um, so I leave in a couple days and probably gonna be on the road for a few months, so. In Europe. Yeah.

I can't believe we're going to Stuttgart.

Oh, yeah.

Like, it's just so quick.

Yeah, it is such a fast turnaround because how many weeks. How many weeks would you guys. Or days would you guys be home? You, Maddie and Jess are going to

Okay. And then you play. You guys would play a week before, a week later, right?

So we went to probably, like, eight different seven elevens because it wasn't working. And we're like, that's so weird. So we go to the actual venue, and we're like, hi. Like, we've been trying to get our tickets printed, but, like, here's our reservation. We. It's just not working. And she goes, this website via Go Go. No, no. Like, it's not good. And we were like, what do you mean? And she's like, this is a scam. And I was like. And there were actually a few other players that actually were coming to that same event too. And we're like, yep, sorry, guys, it's a scam. Like, you guys booked it on the same website. It's a scam. So, yeah, I have a confirmation that I could get scammed.

When I was playing IGA in the semifinals of the Australian Open, I had an overhead literally on top of the net for game point, and I somehow missed it into the bottom of the net. Like, I physically don't know how I was able to hit it. Straight down in front of me, and the whole crowd was like. It was like. I was like, oh, my God, how did I miss that? But then I had to play it off because I had another game point, and I had to be like, yeah, it's totally fine. It's like, no big deal. And I just, like, went back up to the line and was like, I swear to God, if I lose this point and somehow lose the game because I missed the easiest overhead in all of history, I will have nightmares for months.

Troy, Alabama, would you play the challenger there?

We'll let that one sit. Let's move on to some fan questions. First question from Alex. My question is, I play 12 and unders junior tennis and I have long hair. I always have trouble keeping my hair wispies from forming when I put my hair up during tournaments. What products or solutions do you have for keeping your hair so perfect during long matches? And bonus question. Who do you think has the best competition hair in the WTA? I nominate Sakkari. Let me tell you about wispies. I get those flyaways too. And the product dae, it's a wand styling wand and it helps hold back the wispies. But usually I just tuck my wispies into my visor.

Or lots of hairspray or hair gel.

Yeah, I usually play with the visor, but sometimes like my baby hairs at the bottom of my neck, like, kind of like fly away. So usually the wax or bobby pins work for me, but I always play in a bun because I can't have any hair touching the back of me. And sweaty.

Same. Yeah, same.

I. Oh, and for the bonus question, Maria has like the most perfect tennis hair.

Next question from Sapna. Does it feel different playing when the stands are empty versus full vibe versus no vibe or doesn't matter.

As a player, the crowd definitely helps.

I mean, it's nice to play in front of a crowd, that's for sure.

[Jess Spagula]

That's the most, like, fun part.

[Jenny Brady]

Yeah, it's like a more enjoyable environment. But I don't think it changes like the internal part of playing tennis.

[Desiree Krakik]

Obviously doubles doesn't draw as much of a crowd as, like, singles players. But when we do get fans, it's actually, it's very enjoyable. But even so, like, I think we're so used to not having fans that we're.

[Madison Keys]

It's. It's.

No, it's not. We're unfazed.

[Jess Spagula]

Yeah. It's like, it's the same goal. Yeah. At the end of the day, but I think the crowd can definitely play a part, though. Like, if you're nervous, too, or if someone isn't used to playing in front of a crowd, you can definitely get a little psyched out. Like, walking out onto a bigger stadium with a lot of people, you're like, oh, like, I'm not used to people commenting going, ooh, ah.

Yeah. But it also benefits you if you're playing in your home tournament or somewhere. Like, oh, yeah, I think you mentioned it in Charleston. You said, like, the crowd kind of got me through it. And it helps you. I mean, yeah, like, I don't want

to let you guys down. I'm so tired. But like, okay. Yeah, you know, they, like, they definitely keep you going.

Yeah.
