This is the players box.
B
Hello, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the Players Box. I'm Desiree Krafczyk alongside Jenny Brady, Madison Keys, and Jess Fagula. We were so overwhelmed with the positive feedback that we received from everyone, and it's been so fun to hear that people enjoy our content and that they're interested in our behind the scenes from our point of view. So thank you so much to everyone who's been tuning in, and it really means a lot to us. So with that being said, let's get into it.
C
Yeah. Just checking in on Jess and Desiree. You guys are still here competing at the US Open. I think, Des, you play doubles tomorrow, potentially, and then Jess playing singles tomorrow as well. So how's the tournament looking for you guys? How's it going? Is. Have you done anything fun while you've been in New York besides play tennis and spend like 15 hours a day on site?
B
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I play tomorrow, so. Well, yeah, we're supposed to play tomorrow for doubles. I don't actually know when I play yet, unless the schedules come out yet, but we actually did an escape room with the four of us, so that was fun. Well, plus three other randoms, but it was great. It was a really fun escape room. It was what? Only murders in the building was the theme.
D
Yeah.
B
I still have yet to see it.
C
Who hasn't watched the show?
D
Yes.
B
I was halfway through the episode, actually. Okay, I will definitely go watch that.
D
But it was a really good rivet.
B
I was halfway through it. I was thriving.
D
You kept.
B
I was not a bluff. I was not a bluff.
C
All right, guys.
D
You were crushed.
C
You guys were all doing your thing, and I was over there in my corner doing my nine piece puzzle, like, for, like, ages three and up. We did.
B
We crushed that. We had what, 20, actually 20 minutes left in our room, and it was.
D
We got it done in like 40 minutes.
C
We did a good job.
B
A lot of teamwork.
D
It was 30, 37. Oh, wow.
A
Wow. Wow, Jenny.
D
It was a great room, though.
C
Yeah, I remember.
B
Yeah, we did what we. We did an escape room and then, I don't know, went to a rooftop bar. That was fun.
D
Yeah.
B
Let loose a little bit after a rough practice.
D
That was a bad practice day.
B
Hey, you know, it worked.
D
It worked, right? Practice day for me. It did.
C
It worked.
D
I played so much. I've been playing a lot better since that night, to be honest. Like, way better. Two drinks.
B
Come on.
D
I know. I sent my coach a picture of two drinks. It. Well, it was one Me having one, Des having another drink. And he said, love it. Only go around once. I was like, what? But it's also so true. We. We only live once. So I guess.
B
Yeah, exactly.
D
Oh, you didn't get it, Jen.
C
I thought he meant only. Only do one round because I was there.
B
Oh, that didn't happen, did it?
C
I was there with you guys. Yeah. And literally after your first drink, you guys closed the tab. And I was like, oh, thank gosh. We get to go. Go back to the hotel, you know, get some sleep. And then Justin said, desmond is like, another one more. And then said, oh, sure. She was like, sure. And I was like, no, no.
D
I was like, why are you already close it?
C
Yeah, yeah. I was like, no, Maddie was already asleep.
A
I was gonna say.
C
Meanwhile, I was tucked into bed.
B
That was a fun night. It was nice. It was nice.
D
It sound like it was some last night.
B
We had a big bender. Two drinks.
D
Yeah. No, and this was what? This was Wednesday, and that was almost over a week ago for you.
C
Yeah.
D
And then I played Sunday night, so it wasn't. Yeah, it was. That was like a long week. I feel like the week before the US Open goes by so fast, but it gets so, so long.
B
Drag.
D
Like, yeah. You're like, wow, it's Tuesday, I'm here, and I don't play for almost another week, which is. I don't know. It can be, like, stressful and kind of fun, but I don't know. I guess.
B
And you guys have. You guys have a lot that goes on. You know, you and Maddie. Jess and Maddie have all this media stuff you have to do for hotel. You have to do a bunch of sponsors. It's just a lot that goes on for you guys.
D
And I feel like we're all just chaotic, running around the city like chickens with our heads cut off, basically. That's what I feel. It feels very New York. I feel like I'm in the Devil Wears Prada. Basically.
A
My days were scheduled, like, to the minute.
D
Yes. Literally.
B
Oh, we know.
D
We did the escape room.
C
You know, I put it in my calendar.
B
Yeah.
A
Jenny had a calendar of all of our practices and everything.
C
I was like, oh, when can we hang out?
B
It's like Jenny's kids making sure that everyone got on time and that we met up later. It was great.
D
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You came to the escape room and you were like. We're like, oh, you look cute. Like, we're in. You're like, yeah, I just did this. Got my. Did my hair and makeup, and then I had to go do this event and then I had to go do this and then now I'm here all in the span of like three hours.
A
That was a busy day, which is why I went to bed.
C
Yeah.
B
So we celebrate for you.
D
Oh, and you had like an 8am practice or something. Great. 9am Yeah, I had an early practice. What time did you get up? Like 6. 6:30?
A
Yeah, I think like 6:30. Which I'm as much as I love to go to sleep early, I'm also not a morning person, so. Yeah. Be tough.
D
It's tough.
C
Coffee. Coffee gets her through the day.
D
Yeah, definitely. So I play my third round tomorrow, which I play Vika play Azarenka. Who do you play, Des?
B
I play Haley Baptiste and Whitney Oswigway.
D
Oh.
B
So, yeah, it'll be a good match. I think.
D
I don't.
B
How did Whitney or three.
D
And you're playing with Thornton, right?
B
Yeah, I'm playing with Storm Hunter this week. We've been trying to play doubles the last, I guess month and a half together, but some of us have been injured and we're just. Our schedules have been off. So it's going to be nice to play together for this tournament in the next few until the end of Asia. So. Yeah, it's nice.
D
She's.
B
She's a good partner.
D
She's.
B
It's been. She's obviously been number one in the world in double. She's playing singles. She's coming back from an injury, but yeah, always good to play with another Aussie.
D
Two lefties is tough.
B
We actually had all lefty doubles. All lefty doubles practice and I don't know if we will ever do that again because yeah, it was serve, return, volley, like, serve, miss, return, like, it's just, it's just not. Not it. It was not fun.
A
So the left, like the lefty spin.
C
Yeah.
B
No, we did it.
D
Yeah. Welcome to, you know, everything nice.
B
When we're playing the righties. Yeah, it's great. We're playing the righties. But when you're playing your own kind, it's just like not fun. You're like, ugh. So this is what it feels like.
D
Yeah, it sucks. It's such. I always say it's like a cheat code. Like if I was playing video games or something and like you put in a cheat code. It's like being left handed mother in law.
B
That lefty spin.
D
Yeah. Lefties are a pain to play.
C
Yeah.
B
But you love us.
C
Yeah. Can you guys drop your skincare routines? Because everyone's been saying, oh, your ho.
B
Why don't you drop yours, Jenny. You're glowing.
C
I already did drop mine in the first episode. Second episode.
A
We need to elaborate a little bit.
C
A little Larouche, Posay and a little ready 24.
D
Sponsored by. Sponsored by Maddie and Jess.
C
Sponsored by Maddie and Jess. No, but I've been using the. Oh, gosh, I'm totally going to butcher it. The chicha. Chicha blast. Chicha Blast. I told you I was gonna butcher it.
B
Chicharone. That's what you were thinking of?
C
Yeah. So we can sing that. And Kelly actually, you know, told me to use that one.
B
My sister Kelly is Jess's sister.
D
Yes. She also gave you a hydrafacial one time. She is actually an esthetician. Shout out to. Kells.
C
Shout out to.
B
Can you come on tour, Kelly?
D
Or. Yeah, there's been lots of requests for her to come on tour and just give everybody facials, but I don't think that's happening. Oh, come on, Kelly.
B
Give us a discount.
C
A pain to. She can't like, travel with her.
D
No, you actually need a machine for like a hydrafacial. But that would be sick. Yeah.
B
Maddie, what's your skincare routine?
D
Oh, gosh.
B
Tell the people what they want.
A
I literally. There's not enough time.
C
Like, it's like ridiculous. Like, move on to the next.
A
We only, like, we only have so much time.
D
Okay, what are your.
A
What do I like?
D
Top three tops. Yeah.
A
What's like your three must haves? Azelaic acid. I found an azelaic acid serum changed.
B
I don't even know what that is.
C
Write it down.
A
Obviously. La Roche Posay sunscreen. Always necessary. And then I'm really liking. I think it's Tatcha's like cleansing oil, which is really good for taking sunscreen off because I have like super acne prone skin. So I feel like if I can get everything off, then usually I can avoid breakouts. But yeah, if anyone ever has any sort of like skin problems on the road, just come to my room because my toiletry kit is £20.
D
It's Sephora.
A
Yeah, I have Sephora in my room.
B
Maddie, just let me know.
D
Yeah, it's great. I feel like that's true because. Skin problems. Yeah. Maddie's just like, oh, I have this. If you want it, you try it. Or like, oh, you like, seriously. Okay.
B
Or sometimes we'll be like, hey, has anyone tried this? Like, oh, I'm breaking out here. Or oh, oh my gosh, my skin's so oily. What do we do? Oh, here's a rec Just sends, like. She ends up sending five recommendations in the group chat, and literally, oh, okay, I'll just go to Sephora and just buy all of them.
A
Like.
C
Or not. I get so overwhelmed.
D
Yeah, Jenny. Just like, yeah, okay. So Jenny. And we went to Sephora.
B
Wait, what was it? What?
C
We went to Sephora? We went to Sephora, and I was looking for an exfoliating face wash, and I. I was just. I just wanted one to, like, sample. So I didn't want to buy the big tube. And there were, like, I don't know, like, 60. Jess was like, oh, this one's amazing. You gotta try it. And I was like, yeah. And I listed. It's like, $68. And I was like, yeah. Like, what if I hate it? So I was like, you can.
B
You can return it.
C
Well, it doesn't matter. I didn't want it. And turns out we were checking out, and she found this one. It was like a small, small, little sampler. And she was like, oh, Jenny, look, it's on sale. And I was like, yep, don't tempt me with a good time on a sale. Like, So I went and I got it. And then how much was it? I don't know. The lady rung me up, and then.
D
It was like, $6. I think. You spent a total.
C
No, she's lying. It wasn't $6. Found another thing. I got another thing for my flyaways. The D8 day day. Yes, that thing. And so that was six. $16 maybe. And then I got the thing for free. Exfoliating. Exfoliating face wash is not.
B
Whoa.
D
I thought it was a big deal.
C
It was. It was like, $30. Like, my total was like, $30. And Jess just starts laughing. Is like, $30. And then she asked the woman who rung me up, and she was like, is that, like, the lowest you've ever seen at Sephora? Like, $30. Like, who comes into Sephora and only spends $30?
D
Unreal.
C
Like. And I was like, me. Like, yeah.
D
And then she was like, yeah, that's pretty low.
C
Yeah.
D
She said, yeah, well, she wasn't having it with us.
C
No. She was so over it. When. When. When she goes, oh, did anyone help you today? And I go, you? And then she was like, okay. And then I told Jess to say the same thing. I was like, tell her she helped you. When she asked, like, who helped you today? And I was like. She was like, who helps you today? You. And then she was like, okay. And then I said the same to Des. I was like, des, when she asks, like, who helped you today? Or if anyone helped you today, just say you. And then does was like, yeah, you. And literally, she just rolled her eyes. She was like. She was like.
B
Like she wasn't thrilled.
C
She was like a mannequin.
D
Like, no, she was not having it.
C
Didn't laugh. I thought maybe she would laugh.
B
I thought it was also, you should get a medal for spending so little at Sephora, because it's like, I can't spend under a hundred dollars.
D
That's what I'm saying. It's not just me.
B
It's impossible.
D
It's impossible.
C
But every time we target tell this story, Jess says she started at like, 11, then it went to nine, and now it's now I got the item for free. She's like, oh, and you're free.
D
There were some, like, deal or something. Like, that's why I was like, oh, you should Sephora Rogue. You should just buy this because then that'll be cheaper or something like that. I don't know. I thought there was a deal.
C
Definitely a. It was definitely a deal, but girl math.
B
Got it.
C
Okay, let's move on. Okay.
D
Post Jenny for the fans to get.
C
To know us better, let's move on to a fun little game called who is most likely to. Okay, so. Oh, who is most likely to text the wrong group chat? Does Desiree.
B
I didn't have time to answer that. Okay. One, zero. Des.
C
Well, she's already done it.
B
Yeah. Multiple times.
D
Multiple times.
C
Who is most likely to send a voice note? Desiree.
B
Me.
D
Two. Zero.
C
Yeah. Oh.
B
Oh, can I do this one? Can I do this one?
C
No. Who's most likely to hit you with a FaceTime? Jenny? Me. I literally just FaceTimed Jesse right before we.
B
Yes.
C
Started recording.
B
Yeah.
C
Yes.
B
Wait, can we do an over under, how many times you've FaceTimed people in a week?
D
Ooh, you could probably check your phone.
C
Yeah.
B
Or day. Actually, in the day when you're home.
A
How many FaceTimes in one day? Over under six.
B
Yeah.
C
Like six different people or like, six times with this?
A
No, just like six times.
B
Doesn't matter. Like, we'll get back to that.
C
Yeah, like six. Like, it's not more maybe Is like, under meaning, like, can. Like, is six under six or like.
B
Five is under six?
C
Yeah. So over, under, over.
D
So six.
B
Seven is over six.
C
I just prefer, like, the face to face interaction because I like facial expressions and I feel like sometimes on the phone it just gets, like, mundane and boring and sometimes a text is just like, you know, the person's on their phone, staring at their phone. And when you text them and they don't respond within, like, 10 or 15 seconds, then it's like, okay, well, we could have, like, solved this with a quick FaceTime. But then sometimes I like to linger on the.
B
Yes, we know. We know.
A
Love a lingering FaceTime.
D
Yeah.
B
There have been times where we just sit there and it's like, yeah, what's for dinner? Ooh, what'd you have? And then it's just, oh, yeah, I had sweet greens. Okay. And there's just silence. And it's. Okay, I'm gonna go. Oh, okay.
C
Bye.
B
And he's, like, sad.
A
And I'm like, I gotta go.
B
Like, we're not chatting.
C
Oh, I'll. I'll FaceTime my sister. And she's like, okay, well, I'm going to the grocery store. And I'm like, okay. And she's like. And I'm like, can I go with.
D
That is so true.
C
Like, can I go with. Can I go shopping with you? Like, you know, just bring the phone. She's like, no. That's so annoying. That's so obnoxious. Jenny. What am I gonna do? Like, be on FaceTime with you at the grocery store? You'll be, like, talking out loud, you know?
B
Ooh, what are you getting?
D
Ew.
B
Asparagus.
C
Wow.
D
Literally.
C
Okay, who is most likely to smash their racket? Jenny.
D
I was gonna say me. I was gonna say Jess. Oh, well, seen you just.
B
I feel like you smashed a racket, didn't you?
C
Okay, we can go. We don't have to fight over that. I used to be, like, a little hothead when I was a kid. Okay.
D
Oh.
C
I wasn't allowed to smash a racket.
D
When I was a kid.
C
Okay. Anyway, who's most likely to grunt the loudest?
D
We're not really Grunners.
C
Hey, I can kind of get into it, you know.
B
Jenny.
A
Jenny, when the forehand starts going, it's a little louder.
C
Yeah, it does get a little louder.
D
Definitely. You.
C
Sometimes I. I lose myself in it.
B
With that heavy forehand.
D
I lose myself.
C
I lose myself.
D
It's true, though.
C
I just. In the moment.
B
Who.
C
Who is most likely to forget the score? Dez.
B
Yeah. Can I. I have an example. Oh, my gosh. This is that Easter bowl one year. You know the scorecards where you put the ball in, you do it yourself. So they obviously have roaming chair umpires. By the way, Easter bowl is a huge junior event. It's an ITF event that's hosted in Palm Springs.
D
Everybody plays Easter Bowl. At some point in their life.
B
Yes. And that's where I grew up. It's a hometown. Everyone came and watched, so just felt the pressure. Anyways, but I. We were doing the scorecard ourselves, and I was up 4:1. And of course, like, I forgot the score throughout playing, and I was just so zoned in. And she went to go change the score, she flipped it to her side, and it was 4:1 to her side. Didn't even think anything of it. So by the time, like, games happened, I lost, like, two other games. So then it ended up being 6:1. And she's like, none of those scores. 6:1. And I was like, no, it's 4:3. And she's like, no, it's 4 1. And I was like, I was at 4:1. So then we had to go back and do. In junior tennis, did they ever do this with you where they have to.
D
Go back with the score and you never agree?
B
No, we never agreed. And she's like, no, I was up 4:1. And I was like, no, I was. Oh, my gosh. My dad lost his shit.
D
Oh, my gosh.
B
He was like, you're up 4:1. What are you doing? And I was like, oh, no, I'm 13. I don't know what's happening. And oh, my gosh. Yeah, it was wild. But so then I end up losing the match because I was, like, flustered, and I didn't know the score, and I. We had to have the alignsman or chair umpire sit on our court because my dad was like, she can't keep score. You need to stay on court because this girl's cheating. And I was like, oh, my gosh. So, yes, that's me.
A
Yes.
D
Oh, baby Desi. All kinds of views.
A
That's actually so sweet.
B
With my tinted. With my tinted transition glasses and my visor.
D
Oh, my God.
A
Oh, I forgot you wore the transition glasses.
B
Yes.
A
My dad was like, you need to protect your eyes.
B
You gotta wear these glasses. They have transition. When you go into the sun, it's dark. And then when you go inside, it's still dark. And I'm like, you can't see.
D
So, like, it's still dark.
B
Oh, my God.
A
We'll get a.
B
We'll get a photo of that for.
D
Everyone to see in. In juniors, people, maybe you don't know when the umpire. When you have a disagreement about the score, which happens every single match. In juniors, you have. The umpire comes and they roam, and they're like, okay, what. What score do you agree on? And you have to go back to that score. But obviously, you don't agree on anything because either someone's cheating you or you mess up and you don't remember. So you end up going way too far back to, like, it could be, like, for all. And you're like, well, we Knew it was 1 0. And they're like, oh, you have to go back to 1 0. And you're like, what? And then parents freaking lose it. And then you gotta call the umpire to make them sit on your court. And they don't always sit on your court. They have to, like, see that, like, something is really wrong to be able to stay. And then half the time, they don't even do anything. So it's a wild experience. Wild for juniors, but.
B
Yeah. Yes. Junior tennis.
C
Wow.
D
Yeah.
C
Who is. Who is most likely to challenge a ball that was way out?
B
Ostapenko. Keep that in. Or Jenny. High five.
A
Wait.
C
Lofting it up to you so many.
D
It's true, though.
A
She challenges everything.
C
She challenges everything. And she goes, oh, insert the meme. Was that out? Julie. Julie Eastbourne. Okay.
D
She actually does that might possibly be a cut. But also, she kind of stands by no facts that she, like, she really does think, like, the Hawkeye is wrong. Like, she said that multiple times.
B
I mean, there are some times where there's. Sometimes we've all been like, whoa, that looks like it's out.
C
And it's called in by the question. Could potentially be a cut, but no, no, no, no.
B
We're keeping it in.
C
Okay, we'll fill it out. Who is most likely to nap in the locker room dead?
D
Des. Seen it, love. A lot.
B
Oh.
C
Oh. Who is most likely to corner calm. A television analyst. Ooh, Jesse.
D
I'd say myself.
A
Jesse.
C
Yeah, I can see Jess.
B
Yeah, I see it.
C
Who is most likely to become a coach? I would say myself.
D
Jenny. I could see Jenny. I see it. I could see Jenny.
A
I see it.
B
See it.
D
I could see. I see it in the future.
B
In about a month. In a month or so. You know, I could see it.
D
I could see in Asia. Hint tip. Yeah. Who.
C
Who is most likely to be late to practice? Des dez.
B
Well, me.
C
Yeah. Not any three of us. Not the three. Oh, okay.
D
I'm pretty diligent with being on time to practice.
C
Is this practice with other people or.
D
Practice by on our own?
A
That's a big. That's a very big difference.
B
Okay, I will say me time. I'm late to my own practices, too. And actually. And late to my own practices, for.
D
Sure, but with other people.
A
Always early yeah.
D
If my warm up's going late, I'm like, no, we're done. I got. I can't make the other person. I hate being that person.
B
I will say the one time I am usually late is if I'm practicing right before an hour and then I have to run to the other side of the courts to go and hit with them. So that's, that doesn't really. But I try to be. I try to be diligent, but yeah.
D
Okay, so we're all, we're all pretty good.
B
But I'm late to my, to my own practices. Yes.
C
Who's most likely to be found in the player's buffet?
D
Jenny. Jenny with the porter house with a steak.
C
Oh, bone in. Or two.
D
Yeah, yeah.
C
Or two.
D
Or she's just lingering and she's like.
C
Or nine. Yeah.
B
No. How about the one time when you landed.
C
Yeah.
B
When you landed here in New York, you're like, des, can I get, can I get a steak? And I was like, okay, what else do you want? Actually can I get two steaks with that? Okay, two steaks coming right up. Jenny.
C
Thank you, man.
D
And you did eat two steaks.
B
She did.
C
Who is most likely to forget their shoes or equipment?
D
Des. Because the one time you remember we played Duck when. And they, well, they stole the shoes. They stole. She was out of the locker room like.
C
Yeah. So we got her shoes stolen. No.
A
Yeah. I always have backups though.
D
Yeah, Des didn't have backups.
B
Okay. Well, this was my first slam. So Jess and I played French Open together, 2019, and I was on a losing streak. Oh my gosh.
D
You just grow bad months. You had a break?
B
Yes, broke up, had a breakup. And we win our first round. Obviously left my shoes in the locker room. Where you can leave. You can store your shoes in the locker room. Leave it. They come in clean or whatever. And I come back the next day before our match. We were playing, I think I can't remember who we were playing, but I come back to the locker room and my shoes are missing. And I was went to the locker attendance and I said, hey, I had a pair of shoes in here and they're gone. I only brought one pair because I was, you know, Clay season. I just thought, bring one pair Clay's and doesn't wear. So they're like, no, we can't find it. And I'm like, oh my gosh, where am I going to find shoes?
C
Like, what?
B
Where am I going to find shoes? So Kathy Rinaldi, mvp came in clutch and she was like, hang on, I got a guy. Let me just ask him. I'm a size, size. I'm a size eight and a half. And they only had a nine and a half. And I was like, I'll take any shoe. Just give me whatever shoe. Like, I got to play in about two hour and a half. Brings me the shoes. Wearing two pairs of socks, we actually win the match. And I had blisters all over my.
D
Do you remember when you called for the physio and I was like, des, we are killing these girls. Why are we, like, taking like a training break? She's like, you're like, my toe. I was like, like, no.
B
We're like, brand new shirt sucking up buttercup.
D
I was just like, oh, my God. But we did. We won the match.
B
We won the match. But first of all, these shoes were not broken into. Okay. And brand new. Like a full size too big. Blisters everywhere. And note to self, in the future, bring two pairs of shoes, even one in the backup. So, yes. Never again.
D
Learned your love.
A
We just really. Can we just really quick revisit your thought process of clay season? I'm going to bring one pair of shoes.
B
You know, it was my first French Open. That was my first French Open. And I just. I don't know. I didn't know any better. And you know what? You learn from your mistakes. So I have. Okay. I have learned from them. And I don't leave. Well, that's a lie. I do leave my shoes in the locker room, depending on the tournament, you know, if I press them.
D
But French is notorious, though, for things going missing.
B
Missing. Yes.
D
Way.
B
Gabby Dabrowski got her shoes stolen that year, too.
C
I will.
B
And Maddie at ao.
D
Or gosh, at ao. Yeah.
A
No ao. Before my final, I was walking into the locker room and I was like, my shoes are gone. So I had to wear a brand new pair of shoes for the final.
C
And El mayor, it was fine, but.
A
Bjorn was freaking out. He was like, you can't. You can't wear a new pair of shoes. And I was like, well, what?
D
Like, there's no.
A
Do you want me to do. But I was. It was weird. I was like, very chill about it. The poor locker room ladies were like, oh, my God, where are your shoes? Cuz they're the greatest.
D
Yeah.
A
And I was like, guys, it's fine. It's totally fine. I have more shoes. And they're like, no, you can't wear new shoes. And I was like, why am I the only person that's like, nah, it's fine.
B
I'm good. Did you have orthotics in in your other shoes?
A
No, I always put my orthotics in my locker.
D
Smart.
B
Oh, okay. That's very smart.
C
Smart.
A
And I always have an extra pair of shoes in the locker.
D
Yeah, got it.
B
Smart.
D
I just don't want it to be smelling your locker. Yeah. Ew.
C
I. My feet don't really stink. Well, mine don't smell that. Okay. I do. I did one year on the grass. I can't remember. I don't think I had grass court shoes. I was like, okay, yeah, I'll just go to her togenbosch and buy a pair of grass court shoes. No, sister, my badge. Oh, no. I didn't have grass court shoes. There was nowhere to buy grass court shoes. Like literally nowhere. And Asia Muhammad, shout out Asia. She gave me a pair of grass court shoes and they were like a size 11 or like 11.5 and I'm like a 10. So they were very large and I played my match in them and I literally like felt like I was wearing clown shoes. Right. It was so bad. It was so bad.
D
But for one I. The grass cord shoes, you cannot find them anywhere. Like it's not now.
C
I feel like now you learn from.
D
Your mistakes nowadays it's a little bit better.
C
But like, don't.
A
They're still really hard.
D
They're so hard to find. I remember.
B
And they're expensive. They're very expensive on Amazon. I remember buying my shoes on Amazon when I first played on grass. Yeah. And they were not real Adidas shoes.
D
Start. When I first started on grass, I'd have to grind to get shoes cuz I wasn't sponsored or anything. So there was just no. You would get nothing.
C
Yeah.
D
Yeah.
C
Okay.
D
Selective.
C
Okay. Who is most likely to trip over nothing?
D
Jenny. I say. I was going to say myself too.
B
Wow, we're all clutzes.
D
Yeah.
B
I mean, yeah, I would say me too.
C
Jess. Did you not see me like eat shit in ash gym the other day?
D
Like, oh wait, I caught the end of it.
C
I was holding a med ball and Kelsey had me doing these like step up things where I'm like in a lunge and then I step up onto the box like really fast and then put the med ball over my head.
D
Yeah.
C
And I literally like, didn't my foot, like the top of my foot hit the box and. And literally I went over the box and then the med ball just flies out of my hands and hits the. The squat rack. Like the weights on the side of the Squat rack. And I'm just, like, so embarrassed, but I, like, get up so fast, and I'm like, did anyone see it? Like, did anyone see it? Okay, pass me the ball. Let's go. Rep 5. Like, I'll do next.
D
So, like, I think I caught, like, the end of it. I didn't see the fall, but I.
C
Saw, like, right after.
D
There's, like, this awkward, like. Like, you were, like, down here, and, like, the box was there, and I was like. I don't think that was, like, what it was supposed to be.
C
That wasn't the exercise.
B
No, no.
D
Yeah. And then Kelsey was kind of, like, giggling, and I was like, oh, okay. That didn't.
B
I've definitely tripped on the carpets. Like, at the airports or, like, some hotels where they just. I mean, they're the worst.
D
I like.
B
But it's just tripping on.
C
Well, I trip on the. On the ground at the airport. It's so, like, tacky, Sticky.
B
Yes.
C
Yeah.
B
Yes.
D
You're talking with the dac.
C
I feel that. I'm like, oh, no.
D
I, like, hit things all the time in the room. And then Taylor, my husband, just. He just goes, are you okay? Like, that's how. Yeah, he's just like, what? Like, are you, like, what's wrong with you? I just saw you, like, drill your knee and then hit your toe and then hit your arm and, like, hit your toe.
C
That's the worst.
D
And he's just like.
B
It's like the silent.
D
He's like, you don't pay attention. I'm like, I'm sorry. I don't. I don't care. Why do you care so much?
A
Bjorn gets legitimately mad at me because he's like, especially for home. Because I also have, like. Like, I'm basically, like, trying to kill myself all the time. I'm, like, climbing up on top of stuff or whatever. And sometimes he'll get nervous to leave because he's like, I. I'm gonna come home. You're gonna be standing on, like, a nightstand trying to hang something, and you're gonna fall, and you're gonna break everything. And, like, he'll come. The amount of times he's come home, I'm like, like, bandaging something because I cut something.
B
Oh.
A
Last summer, I sent Jenny a picture. I literally cut, like, a chunk of my finger off.
B
Oh, my gosh.
A
I'm like, no, it's fine. It's totally fine. I, like, had to wrap it. Meanwhile, there's legitimately a chunk of my finger gone, and I had to tape it for three Weeks. And every time I said, oh, I have to go to the physios to get my fingers taped, you could tell Bjorn was just like.
B
This could have been avoided.
C
Yeah. Okay. So Maddie, checking in on you. Are you home in Orlando? What are you up to?
B
That's so organic.
C
Smooth transitions.
A
That was so nice.
B
Oh my.
C
And I got. Eris is like, got that.
A
That was so.
C
Okay, Maddie, Maddie, can we talk about your post match wellness checks that we did the other day and the photo you sent us?
B
Yes, a video.
C
The video you sent us.
A
I've been, as everyone knows, I've been friends with Laura Robson for years and years and years. She used to be, she used to be on the tour. Now she's a commentator. So it's great because we have still like a lot of crossover. But she, she texted me a wellness check after my match the other day and I was like, I think I want to cut a bob. Should I cut a bob? Should I just cut all of my hair off? That'll make me feel better, right?
C
I feel lighter.
A
She sends me the clip from Fleabag after she has that butcher haircut.
D
We need to clip it. This is where we clip this scene.
A
I was like crying, laughing, and I was like, oh, so. So I shouldn't get a bob? A bob, in fact, won't fix all of my problems.
B
Okay, I'll keep my hair.
D
But it's French.
A
It's French.
B
Oh.
D
That clip was so good.
B
I was like, for those of you who not. Yeah, watching this, you gotta watch this on YouTube to see the reference of this Bob because wow, you could pull it off, Maddie.
D
It's unsalvageable. Yeah, it's French.
C
I'm gonna go.
A
I don't know, should I watch? We can.
D
It's funny.
A
We can make it work. Like kitchen scissors after a loss. And to straight just hotel bathroom in the locker room.
D
Postmaster, like, get the scissors away.
B
Oh my gosh.
C
No.
B
From the physios. They're like, what are you doing with those?
A
Like, you know, you know, someone's like really going through it when all of a sudden they show up with like an extreme haircut. You're like, are things tough?
D
Are you okay when no one talked.
A
You out of that?
D
Carlos shaved his bangs. Car shaved his head.
B
Oh, God.
C
And we were like, oh, Carlos, I low key.
B
Can we talk about bad hair?
D
Loves it.
C
I thought, oh, aura is off the charts. Charts. Isn't that Gen Z?
D
Kids say, I don't mind it.
A
I don't mind it. I think he pulls it off I do think.
D
I think he does.
B
It's just very drastic from what he.
C
I feel like it's going to grow back in three days, I feel.
D
Oh, for sure.
C
Wildfire.
B
Yeah.
D
Hairline.
A
It seems dramatic because he. I mean he has like such thick dark hair and you're just so used to seeing that. And it was also after I lost and I was leaving and we passed each other and I was like, was that Carlos? It's false.
B
I can do a bob now.
C
He cut all his hair off.
A
Carlos Guyer's hair. So should I cut my hair?
C
Britney Spears 2.0.
D
Yeah.
A
Oh my gosh.
D
Oh my gosh.
A
It was Leave Britney alone.
D
Yeah, that's true.
B
She was going through a rough patch. It's okay. Yeah, no pun intended.
D
We love Britney. Jenny, come on.
C
Yeah, I'm not a hater. I was just talking with her.
B
Oh wait, Jenny doesn't like break.
D
Yeah, we're gaslighting.
C
Right back at you. DEZ is gaslighting me.
B
What?
D
I don't know who you're talking.
C
I love her perfume. Fantasy. Shout out Britney.
A
Okay, wait, so since obviously I had to be talked out of a post loss haircut. What's like the most unhinged, relatable, like what's our post loss thing?
C
DEZ is yours.
D
Mac does bad food and alcohol.
B
No, no, no. It's bad. Yeah, definitely comfort food and just alcohol. I don't know, just with friends or maybe tequila shot. Cuz honestly, I just need one drink and I'm on the floor. So, you know, cheap date over here.
D
Tacos and margaritas.
B
Love a good margarita.
A
I mean Jenny is like Jenny's. I'm such a foodie.
C
I know it's junk food.
A
That food is food.
B
No sugar.
D
I've had this discussion with Kelly, my sister. So Kelly says Jenny's super picky. Do you think Jenny's picky or super particular? I think she's more particular because she definitely knows what she likes and doesn't like. She's definitely particular is more like to me like, oh, I only eat chicken fingers and spaghetti or something.
B
She only eats steak. But yeah, I guess.
A
I don't know, I feel like sometimes she'll say like, oh, I don't like that. And you're like, oh, you've tried it. And she'll be like, no, you're like.
C
Like, oh, like I'll eat it, I'll eat it. But it's not like I'll like, I won't go in order it. Like, like, oh, okay. Like Milanese. Like Ooh, I won't go and order it. And if someone at the table, like, if it's like family style, like, yeah, like, I'll try it, but I'm not, like, super stoked to eat it. I'm not like, yay, we get to eat Milanese tonight.
D
Like, I love melonaise.
C
I know that's.
A
But, like, what's your. Okay, so what's your. Like, go to junk food because, like, you don't like fried chicken. You're super picky about, like, pizza.
C
You don't like. You. You don't like sugar pizza. I like my pizza. How I. How Dave Portnoy likes his.
D
So no flop.
C
No flop.
B
Yeah.
C
Great undercarriage. Has to have a great undercarriage. Not too cheesy. And don't even think about her own oh, my God thing. Okay, so, like, I'm throwing parm on that thing.
A
Okay, so, like, what are we. What. What's like, the go to. I'm gonna, like, pig out.
B
Oh, I lost a, like, heartbreaking match. What are you doing?
C
I don't know. Like, whatever I'm in the mood for. Pizza's good. Pizza. But it has to be a particular pizza.
D
Steak.
C
And then, like, I cream. I like ice cream. Cream. Yeah, Steak. Probably a bone in ribeye. Tomahawk, Something like that.
B
How about nothing? Bun cakes? Carrot cake, Jenny.
C
Oh, nothing. Bunt cakes. Carrot cake is so good.
D
So good.
C
So good.
B
That's a good one.
C
Yes.
B
Thank you, Jenny, for introducing me to that.
C
It's life changing Italy. Gelato the other day was very good. Everyone in the group is like, wow, Jenny's eating sugar. I'm like, I don't literally say that. Like, because you don't eat sugar. Yeah, I don't have, like a massive sweet tooth. Like, I prefer salty. Like, pretzels. Come on. Like peanut butter. Everybody knows I'm obsessed with.
D
Yeah, you do like peanut butter.
B
But you can't even have it. You're allergic.
C
No, I'm not allergic.
B
Like, you're intolerant.
C
Intolerant.
A
You're intolerant. So just tolerate it.
B
How about after the AO final when eat it. What?
C
Oh, yeah, you guys, we got you a cake. Asia. Yeah.
D
The peanut butter.
C
Yes. Peanut butter. Yes. Yes. I need a insert photo.
D
Yes.
C
Of the. Of the.
B
That was a really good cake. And you're like, oh, my God, I just need to have a few bites. And I'm like, are you. Can you have that? And you're like, no, that. Oh, but I really want it.
C
No, it's so good. So so good. Yeah. Yep.
D
All right.
B
Question.
D
Do something. Q and A baby.
A
Oh, Jenny's. Jenny's time to shine.
B
Jenny's time to shine.
D
Here we go. Posted this entire episode. She's been shining the whole time.
C
Okay, okay. Now it's time for fan questions. Okay.
B
Well, the best part, read the names off.
C
From. Okay. Yeah, he followed me.
D
Yeah, we need to talk about that first.
C
Let's go back. Let's go to that. Okay. Okay. For anybody that has watched or listened to the previous episode, Mateo513 shout out. Because I was just scrolling my Instagram like two hours ago, and I sent a screenshot of his follow to my Instagram. Like, he followed my Insta.
D
Whatever.
C
Follow for follow, maybe.
B
Are you gonna follow him back?
A
Yeah, he already follows you.
B
What are you talking about?
C
Yeah, I don't know.
A
I got. Oh, she's getting fluffed circuiting.
C
Okay, well, okay, so Matteo513 followed me on Instagram.
D
I'm not. And he asked what. Do you remember what question he asked? He ends. He asked one of the fan Q and A. And you were trying to Q and A pronounce his screen, his username. It was funny.
C
Yeah.
D
I should say it was great.
C
And say. How do you pronounce it? Okay. From Strange Design 13, if you could replay any point from your career, what point would it be?
B
Oh, that's deep.
C
Oh.
D
In the final last year against Sabalanga, I think I had a game point and I had this, like, backhand short ball situation that I feel like I, like, couldn't miss with my eyes closed. And I missed it because I kind of like. Second, it was kind of short and, like, it kind of died low. And I like, changed my mind of whether I was gonna go line or cross or something. And I missed it. And that one kind of replays in my head.
C
I knew just would have like a in depth, detailed points.
A
I was gonna say, I. I feel like Matt. I feel like points that I've, like, lost. Like, if I've lost a match, it's usually not a singular point where I'm like, damn. That was the. Yeah, it's usually like, like, kind of.
B
Like the whole.
A
Like all of the points. I should go back maybe.
C
Like, can we just start over?
A
Should we. Should I try waking up that day? Maybe I should have chose heads instead of tails. Like, that would have changed things for me.
B
I think for me.
D
But that one sticks out to me for some reason.
B
The one point I can think of is at AO last year, I was playing mixed finals with Neil Skupski, and we were playing Su Wei Shay and Jan Zielinski, and we had match point. And it's nothing dramatic, but it was just like, the one move where you're just like, okay, you know, you're one point away from winning this, and you're not brave enough to go after it, and you're like, oh, my God, I could have done something on that point, but. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.
C
Is.
B
Is not how it goes in tennis, but that's the one. I'm just like, oh, maybe I could have had that slam, but it's okay onto the next.
C
Could have had all four, but.
B
Yeah.
D
Jenny, do you have one?
C
I haven't played in two years. I can't remember.
D
Hey.
A
I don't know.
B
What about, like, the AO final? When you play the AO final against final Naomi?
C
Like, no, there's not like one. It wasn't like. It was, like, three sets or like, that close in the game scores. Maybe in, like, my semi semifinal match against Naomi at US Open. Like, my. The tiebreaker in the first set that I would love to replay. Um, because, like, I played such a shitty tie break. Um, it was so.
D
Isn't it the worst? We've all been there when you, like.
C
Tie break and then you win the second set and you're like, why didn't.
D
I play like that in the tie break? Tie breaks are so tough.
C
Yeah, but it was really shitty. Like, I don't. I don't remember what the score was, but it. It's not like I was like. It was like, seven, five or like, five all. And it was like I had a backhand.
D
Yeah.
C
Sitter on top of the net that I missed.
B
Just overall, the breaker.
C
It was just. The breaker was bad, but, yeah. Okay, next question from Praveena Carrera. Sorry if I butchered that. How do tennis players partner up for doubles slash practice sessions? Des, is there a messaging app where you say you are looking to partner up?
B
Well, it's not like Hinge, but honestly, that's not a bad way to do it. How we partner up for doubles. Well.
D
Sorry.
B
Jess is ordering room service.
D
What the.
B
We'll be right back. No, we're not cutting that. We're leaving that.
C
Jess got towel.
B
Door dash.
A
I was gonna say we should leave.
C
She's okay. Yeah.
D
Thank you.
B
Okay. Okay, bye. What'd you get Jess? She left her mics on.
D
Sorry.
B
What'd you get us?
D
Didn't have my privacy thing on, and it was turned down.
C
They were coming for guard down.
D
Water? Yes.
C
Chocolates.
B
Any chocolate?
C
They were coming.
D
They did give me cookies earlier.
B
Oh, wow. Nice.
D
Sorry.
B
100% keep. Okay, what was the question again? Sorry.
D
How do.
B
How do you.
C
Yeah, how do you partner up for doubles?
B
Like, so basically doubles with me.
C
Like, how would you. Okay, that moves.
B
So basically, to get into a tournament. You.
A
You good, Jenny, Stop fighting.
C
Putting a muzzle on it. I don't know why she's getting so heated.
B
I'm not getting heated.
C
Oh.
B
And you're just like, up, up. Okay. Anyways, basically, to pair up for doubles, you try and find a partner that you can get into with in a tournament, and usually you want to play with someone you like, because then that makes it more enjoyable. But some girls, you got to do what you got to do and just get in with whoever to make the advanced cut list. And then for practice, you kind of just message each other and just say, hey, you want to practice? You've also got a non hit list, I guess, or a non. A no hit list. Is that what you call it?
D
Blacklisted for practices.
C
Were you?
B
Yeah. Like, where you, like, are like, no, I'm not. I'm never again practicing this person. Everyone's got a list.
D
Everyone's got a list who you'd rather practice than who you kind of don't want to practice with.
B
Yeah, but there's definitely people who you avoid with doubles in practice. Like, if you can't get a rhythm off, you know, return. Or you're just not getting. You know, they're just so erratic. And you don't play with them. No, not all. Not all.
D
I don't really like playing with lefties that much, though, unless I have to play left.
B
Oh, that's true. Yeah. That's when we get used and abused when you guys need us.
D
Yeah, I play a lefty, and I don't know, like, Des could be anywhere. I have no idea where she is. And I'm just like, hey, Des, are you, like, in Doha? Do you want to, like, work me up tomorrow?
B
And I'm like, sure, okay, I'll be there.
A
Does even if you just pop over for some serves? That would be amazing.
D
Yeah, I just need a few.
B
I have gotten that multiple times. Or even at United Cup. You would be like, hey, we're playing a lefty. Des, you're in. And I'm like, okay, let me just.
D
Hit five serves to you.
C
Well, one year at a tournament, I put Brady plus looking, and no one signed with me, so they put me with a hitting partner. So that's usually how you, like, book A warmup. Like, if you don't have, like, let's say, you know, I wanted to warm up with Jess. We would communicate, but, you know, if you don't have someone playing at the same time that, you know, like, usually you would just call and say, hey, like, can you put me down at 9am Brady plus looking? And then maybe another player will sign with you. And if no one signs, like, usually they'll have hitting partners on site to warm you up. So I did that, and I was playing a righty, and for the first time in my life, they gave me a lefty's hitting partner. And I was like, okay, this is strange, but, you know, I'm not like, one to, like, you know, complain. So I ended up warming up with the lefty hitting partner. And then the next day they gave me someone who was ambidextrous, so.
D
Oh, variety.
C
Served. He served lefty and hit righty.
A
Oh, I've had. I've played people like that.
C
Yeah.
D
Hitting partners, though, not like a player.
A
Yeah, no, I've played a match against a girl who served lefty and then played righty.
C
Who.
B
Oh, wow.
A
I don't even remember her name, but it was at the Tulsa Challenger. No, Tulsa. It was at the Tulsa itf.
D
Oh, wow. Wait, she is.
C
Wow. That. That tournament would get lit.
D
Yeah. Oh. I think everyone always talks about, like, how. I feel like that's one of the most common questions.
C
How.
D
How do you guys play doubles together? I'm like, we just text each other and we say, hey, yeah, like one only double. It's like, yes or no. And then you just. We have, like a player site that we have to sign up for. Or you can sign in on site with your singles ranking. But yeah, it's pretty.
C
Instagram. Dm. Instagram.
B
Yeah.
D
What's up? You just. You start.
C
Some people really don't respond or say they're not playing doubles. And then.
B
Yeah, and sometimes, like, if you're trying to. Yeah, it's what the cut is, and you're trying to just get in where you can. And also there's. If you're already inside. Well, inside the cut, you want to try and pair up with someone. If you're trying to make the WTA Finals, which is in Riyadh and the end of the year. So if you play with one partner the whole year or for a swing of events, and you do really well, you want to try and try and make the cut, which is top eight, get into the end of the year race. And that's also another reason why? How people pair up. You may not like them or, you know, you may just gel. But it's another way where you can get into.
D
To play with the same person every time.
B
To play with the same person. Yeah. And then same thing with practice. Like, if we say we've got two doubles players and one of the doubles teams has a singles player playing in the event, they obviously can't practice that day.
A
They'll put.
B
We'll put looking or. Plus hitting partner and whoever else wants to sign in that is also in the same boat. They can sign in. So it kind of just depends on who you're practicing with and I guess who's ready that day to play, to practice.
D
Wow. Des really went, like, in depth.
C
Yeah.
B
Sorry. Well, you know, you got to give the people what they want.
D
He went into the whole.
A
The Saudi.
D
End of the year, I was like, jesus.
C
Yeah. WTA finals, baby. Oh, God.
B
Well, I mean, that's another backstory of.
C
How people pair up.
B
I mean, sometimes. Yeah, there's a. That is depends. Yeah.
C
Yeah.
B
Or if people want to play with someone because they want to get seated at an event. So, yeah, you get a buy. If you do, can go all day.
D
Last question.
B
All right.
C
Okay. From Meteor. Meteor. Briologist24. Oh, my God. What makes you decide which balls to choose while you are serving? Oh, sorry.
B
Can you repeat that?
C
Yeah.
D
Who.
B
Who is.
C
Who is that from rheologist? It's from bribery. Why do you choose balls that you choose? Well, sometimes I get really superstitious, and let's say, like, I wanna. I played a really good point, and I want that ball. Like, I want that ball back. So, like, I'll wait and, like, keep saying, no, no, that's not the ball. Until, like, the ball kid, like, rolls the ball to the person that I want it from, and then I get that ball back, and I'm playing with that ball until I lose the point. Or usually, like, when I'm serving, like, I'll look for, like, the newest ball. So that way. Yeah, usually, like, newer balls, like, are faster and more livelier. So when you're searching.
B
Yeah. Wow.
C
Faster.
B
And the newer ones are the better ones. Huh.
D
So how many balls do you like? Like, do you, like, two?
B
Do you take three, Maybe, like, one, two at a time, Two balls?
C
I always take two. Oh, I like that.
B
And you really just. You really see, like, which one's the best one, Right? You really just, like, you know, one.
D
Maybe looks more fresh than the other.
B
Yeah. Not as old. You know, I was gonna say something.
A
She's so red.
C
Two fresh new balls. Some are a little, like, fuzzier used and fluffy. Fluffy. I don't like hairy. They get. I don't like when they get, like, real fluffy and too big.
D
Yeah, you like? Oh, when they're more bald.
C
Guys.
D
End episode.
B
Oh, my God. End over. See ya. Jenny, how you doing?
C
Are you flushed?
A
Are you sweating? Does anyone else want to talk about what bowls they choose?
B
I choose the newest and the freshest.
C
No, but I do, like, like, new revolves. Like.
B
She'S like, I'm gonna be normal now.
A
Next question.
B
Jenny.
A
I think that was Jenny's question.
B
I think she nailed that one.
D
That is a common question, though. People do ask me that.
C
Yeah, like, why do you have.
D
Why do you always, like, throw away, like, one. Like, what makes it whatever. I always just look for the newer. The newer ones.
B
I also just trying to. It's also just to, like, not stall, but kind of just, like, get myself into a thought and just hold them and look at them, and I'm just.
A
Like, okay, these two.
B
This is just a segment right here. Wow. Okay.
A
Oh, my God.
C
Well, you just made one. Yeah.
B
And it was fun.
D
Jenny and DEZ are sassy today.
C
Well.
B
Oh, just sisters right now.
C
Yeah. Okay.
A
Oh, best movie ever.
C
Yeah.
B
Oh, I can't wait.
C
