It's Monday, the 30th of June. Welcome to the PDB afternoon bulletin. I'm Mike Baker, your eyes and ears on the world stage. All right, let's get briefed. Before we do get started, just a brief note to say rest in peace to the two firefighters shot and killed when responding to a brush fire outside of the northern Idaho town of Coeur d' Alene. When I'm not on the road, I am proud to call Idaho my home. And this calculated ambush on first responders, well, it shocked the entire state. All right, first up, one of the most senior religious authorities in Iran issues a fatwa against President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, declaring them enemies of God. Later in the show, the Trump administration revokes the visas of a controversial British musical duo after a recent concert where they led thousands of fans in anti Semitic chants of death to the IDF and from the river to the sea. We'll have those details. But first, today's afternoon spotlight. Iran may have agreed to a ceasefire following the US Bombing campaign on the country's nuclear sites, but senior Islamic clerics within the regime are now calling on Muslims around the world to essentially wage a holy war against the leaders of Israel and America. Iran's top Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makaram Shiraz, issued a religious decree or a fatwa on Sunday against President Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and anyone else who threatens Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, claiming that they're, quote, waging war against God and should be punished by death. Well, now, religious and peaceful. In the new religious fatwa, the 98 year old grand Ayatollah, he's really sticking in there, isn't he? Branded Trump and Netanyahu as enemies of God for their roles in the recent 12 Day War, which saw Israel and the US devastate Iran's military leadership and nuclear infrastructure, leaving Khamenei's hold on power in a weakened state. The decree calls on Muslims around the world to unite and bring down American Israeli leaders for threatening the leadership of the Islamic regime. According to a report from Fox News, the cleric said, quote, any person or regime that threatens a leader is considered a warlord or a muharrab, which is translated to an enemy of Allah. We should note, under Iranian law, those identified as muharrab face execution, crucifixion, limb amputation, or exile. The Grand Ayatollah. Now, is he really all that grand? Continued, quote, any cooperation or support for that enemy by Muslims or Islamic states is haram or forbidden. It's necessary for all Muslims, he said, around the world to make these enemies regret their words and mistakes, end quote. As Islamic experts noted, the fatwa is a not so thinly veiled incitement to terrorism. Well, there's a statement of the obvious. He further promises that any Muslims that, quote, suffer hardship or loss in their fight against the enemy. Oh. Will be divinely rewarded by Allah. There you go. The cleric finished the decree with a prayer of protection for the Islamic regime. For some background, a fatwa is a ruling on how to interpret Islamic law issued by a clerical authority. Now, while not strictly legally enforceable, that's good. Such religious decrees hold great influence over judicial decisions in countries based on Sharia law. The ruling was issued after prominent Muslim groups in Iran asked the cleric how they should respond to threats against Ayatollah Khamenei by Israel and the US Government. Now, analysts warned the new ruling could intensify internal crackdowns on dissidents of the Islamic regime, giving the judiciary broader powers to execute critics of Khamenei by legally classifying their activities as, quote, waging war against God. We should Note at least 700 people have been arrested across Iran over just the past few days for allegedly spying for Israel. That's according to a report from the Telegraph. But the fatwa carries broader implications for the international community, signaling the regime's intent to foment religiously motivated violence. Nia Corbani, a dissident Iranian journalist living in the UK warned, quote, a top Iranian cleric has just issued a fatwa calling for violent jihad against Western leaders, not just Iranian dissidents. This is a clear act of state backed incitement to international terrorism. He added, quote, the west must realize the Islamic Republic is not only targeting its own people, it's preparing for global violence in the name of religion, end quote. As a reminder, the fatwa comes at a time of heightened concerns over the domestic threat from Islamic terrorists following the US Strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities. Last week, the US Department of Homeland Security warned border agents to be on high alert for potential sleeper cells, fearing that individuals loyal to the Iranian regime may attempt retaliatory attacks from inside U.S. borders. All right, up next, the Trump administration revokes the visas of a controversial British musical duo after a recent concert where they led thousands of fans in anti Semitic chants of death to the idf. I'll be right back. Hey, Mike Baker here. Well, one of America's greatest holidays, and of course I'm Talking about the 4th of July is just around the corner. Welcome back to the afternoon bulletin after the British music group Bob Villain. I don't have any of their CDs, much less their albums, led thousands at a UK music festival. Enchanting quote, Death to the IDF. The State Department today revoked the visas of the duo just ahead of their U S tour. Now Bobby Villain, born Pascal Robinson Foster, performs as one half of the politically charged group Bob Villain, a name that nods to Jewish music legend, of course, Bob Dylan. Adding a strange layer of irony to his anti Israel tirade, the group was scheduled to begin a 20American city inertia tour with stops in cities like Washington, D.C. new York City, Boston and Chicago. But outrage exploded after footage of the performance over the weekend went viral. While on stage at Glastonbury, the UK's largest music festival, Villain incited the crowd to chant quote, death, death to the idf in a segment broadcast live by the BBC. He followed with the slogan, quote, from the river to the sea, Palestine must be, will be, inshallah, it will be free, a phrase widely condemned as a call for Israel's eradication. Now I'd put a tenor on the fact that this fool is not able to name either the river or the sea that's referenced in that chant. The performance drew condemnation from both sides of the Atlantic, as you might imagine. A senior State Department official confirmed to the Daily Wire that under the Trump administration, the US Quote will not issue visas to any foreigner who supports terrorists. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau also posted on X quote, foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country. Leo Terrell, chair of the Justice Department's Task Force to Combat Anti Semitism, said his, quote, first call this morning was to Secretary of State Marco Rubio to ensure Villain is barred from entering the country. Terrell said, quote, these abhorrent chants have no place in any civil society now. The advocacy group Stop Anti Semitism had publicly called on the administration to act swiftly, posting, quote, the anti Semite must have his visa denied and rescinded. His hate is not welcome here. The group's executive director applauded the Trump administration's move, adding, quote, we are grateful to the State Department for swiftly prioritizing this matter and remain confident they will agree that individuals who promote such hatred have no place on American soil, end quote. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the chance, quote, appalling hate speech. And Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy demanded answers from the BBC, which had merely posted a warning about, quote, very strong and discriminatory language. During the live segment. The Israeli Embassy in London said it was disturbed by what it called, quote, inflammatory and hateful rhetoric. The BBC later admitted that some of villains remarks were deeply offensive. The network in a statement said, quote, the anti semitic sentiments expressed by Bob Villain were utterly unacceptable and have no place on our airwaves, end quote. Well, except that they did in fact have a place on their airwaves. But rather than backing down, Villain doubled down because, well, you can't fix stupid. In an Instagram post he wrote, quote, let them see us shouting about it on any and every stage that we are offered, encouraging followers to, quote, pick up the torch, a message many interpreted as a call to spread the attention seekers message. The President's Daily Brief: June 30th, 2025
Hosted by Mike Baker, former CIA Operations Officer
In the June 30th, 2025 episode of The President's Daily Brief, host Mike Baker delves into two significant and unsettling developments impacting international relations and domestic security. The bulletin provides an in-depth analysis of Iran's recent religious decree against key Western leaders and the United States' decisive action against a British musical duo accused of promoting anti-Semitism.
Timestamp: [00:37]
The episode opens with a somber acknowledgment of the tragic loss of two firefighters in Idaho, setting a serious tone for the discussions that follow.
Key Points:
Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makaram Shiraz's Fatwa: One of Iran's most senior religious authorities, Grand Ayatollah Shiraz, has issued a fatwa declaring U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "enemies of God." This decree significantly escalates tensions between Iran and Western leaders.
“Waging war against God and should be punished by death.” — Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makaram Shiraz ([01:20])
Context of the Fatwa: The fatwa comes in the aftermath of the 12-day conflict ("12 Day War") where the U.S. and Israel conducted a bombing campaign targeting Iran's nuclear infrastructure. This military action weakened Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's hold on power, prompting religious leaders to respond vehemently.
Implications for Internal and Global Security:
Internal Crackdowns: Following the issuance of the fatwa, reports indicate that at least 700 individuals have been arrested in Iran over the past few days for allegedly spying for Israel, signaling a broader suppression of dissent within the country.
International Threat: The fatwa is viewed as a clear call for religiously motivated violence beyond Iran's borders. Nia Corbani, a dissident Iranian journalist based in the UK, warns:
“A top Iranian cleric has just issued a fatwa calling for violent jihad against Western leaders, not just Iranian dissidents. This is a clear act of state-backed incitement to international terrorism.” ([04:50])
Potential Global Impact: The swift mobilization of Iran's religious leadership to declare Western leaders as antagonists underscores a shift towards fostering global sectarian violence, raising alarms about the potential for international terrorism.
U.S. Preparedness: In response to heightened threats, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has heightened alert levels for potential sleeper cells within its borders, anticipating retaliatory attacks from individuals loyal to the Iranian regime.
Timestamp: [07:15]
Switching focus, Mike Baker addresses the United States' recent revocation of visas for the British musical duo Bob Villain, following their controversial performance that included anti-Semitic chants.
Key Points:
Incident at Glastonbury Festival:
Performance Details: Bob Villain, whose real name is Pascal Robinson Foster, led thousands of fans in chants of “Death to the IDF” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine must be free” during a live broadcast at the Glastonbury Festival.
“Death to the IDF… from the river to the sea, Palestine must be, will be, inshallah, it will be free.” — Bob Villain ([07:45])
Government Response:
Visa Revocation: In immediate response, the U.S. State Department revoked the visas of Bob Villain and his partner just before their planned U.S. tour. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau stated:
“Foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country.” ([08:10])
Justice Department's Stance: Leo Terrell, chair of the Justice Department's Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism, emphasized the administration's swift action:
“These abhorrent chants have no place in any civil society now.” ([08:25])
Public and Official Reactions:
Advocacy Groups: Stop Anti-Semitism praised the decision, with the executive director stating:
“We are grateful to the State Department for swiftly prioritizing this matter and remain confident they will agree that individuals who promote such hatred have no place on American soil.” ([08:40])
British Government: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the behavior as "appalling hate speech," while Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy called for accountability from the BBC for broadcasting the offensive remarks.
Israeli Embassy's Statement: The Israeli Embassy in London expressed deep disturbance over the "inflammatory and hateful rhetoric" displayed during the performance.
BBC's Admission: The broadcaster acknowledged that Bob Villain's remarks were "deeply offensive," issuing a statement that such sentiments are "utterly unacceptable" on their platforms.
Artists' Response:
Bob Villain's Defiance: Despite widespread condemnation, Bob Villain maintained his stance through social media, urging supporters to continue spreading his message:
“Let them see us shouting about it on any and every stage that we are offered, encouraging followers to pick up the torch.” ([09:30])
Mike Baker's comprehensive briefing highlights the escalating tensions stemming from religious and cultural provocations. Iran's issuance of a fatwa against leading Western figures marks a significant threat to both internal stability within Iran and international security. Concurrently, the U.S. government's decisive action against individuals promoting anti-Semitism underscores a commitment to combating hate speech and preserving national security. These developments collectively signal a period of heightened geopolitical volatility and underline the importance of vigilant international relations and domestic security measures.
