I have just filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I was working three jobs. Now I'm down to two, and I'm about to have my car repossessed on my bills, and I'm really wondering what I should do next.
Financial Advisor (0:21)
Did you already file? Has it already been approved?
Caller (0:25)
It's been filed.
Financial Advisor (0:27)
Okay.
Caller (0:28)
So I should know in the next month or back next month when it all gets dry.
Dave Ramsey (0:35)
How are you doing real quick? Let's just get a quick check on your head and heart. How you. How you holding up?
Caller (0:41)
I'm. I'm doing okay. I've just been working 70 plus hours a week trying to work my way out of it.
Dave Ramsey (0:49)
Oh, man.
Caller (0:50)
Okay.
Dave Ramsey (0:50)
All right, well, we're going to help. Hang in there. Here's my point. Your life is not over. You know, you can come back from this.
Financial Advisor (0:58)
So you filed the proceeding. Can you tell me what the timeline is on this?
Caller (1:07)
So I filed about a month and a half ago. I've had the meeting of creditors, and they said the next step is 90 days after it's filed. I should have what, the dismissal? About everything.
Financial Advisor (1:25)
How much was it? Like? What. What was. How much was in the bankruptcy?
Caller (1:31)
So I had about 43,000 in debt. About 33 of it is going to be dismissed from the bankruptcy.
Financial Advisor (1:43)
Okay, so that leaves you on the hook for 10.
Caller (1:47)
About 11. With student loans. Yes.
Financial Advisor (1:49)
Oh, yeah. Because. Yeah, student loans are not bankruptable. So, man, tell me what caused you to get in a situation where you'd file bankruptcy over $33,000? Tell me more.
