ABOUT MATT DOHERTY:
Matt Doherty was a starter on the 1982 National Championship-winning North Carolina Tar Heels, bringing the ball up court for Michael Jordan, James Worthy, and Sam Perkins. He went on to a career on Wall Street before the game of basketball came calling once again - this time as Head Coach at Notre Dame. After one year with the Fighting Irish, Coach Doherty returned to the bench at his alma mater North Carolina as Head Coach in 2000, where he was recognized as National Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm.
Today, coaching remains a vital part of Matt’s world as he serves as a Leadership and Executive Coach for numerous businesses and professionals. This week Coach Doherty talks with news and war veteran Bill Roggio. Bill is an American commentator on military affairs and the managing editor of The Long War Journal. Prior to leading a team of online commentators, Roggio was an active duty soldier in the United States Army in the 1990s. He became famous for his heroic embedded news reports, providing frontline honest conflict assessment, live from location in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan. Roggio's brand of straight international on location journalism has earned him a unique spot in the delivery of news. Scott McEwen lives in San Diego, where he began writing while practicing law. He grew up in Oregon where he became an Eagle Scout; hiking, fishing, and hunting at every opportunity presented. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Oregon, and thereafter studied in London, England. Scott works with and provides support for several military charitable organizations, including the Seal Team Foundation. Scott has written 12 books and sold millions of copies. His book about the life of Naval SEAL Chris Kyle, American Sniper, became a film directed by Clint Eastwood starring Bradley Cooper and won many awards.

In this episode, Coach talks with former North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory. Pat was the mayor of Charlotte for seven consecutive terms, making him the longest running mayor in their history. Charlotte experienced dramatic economic and developmental growth during Pat’s almost 15 years of leadership from 1995 to 2010. Pat led efforts to create major market infrastructure. With a focus on urban growth and sustainability, Pat helped bring many banking and corporate businesses to Charlotte. He also helped bring professional sports to Carolina and will be remembered as one of the most transformative figures in North Carolina history.
