Friend/Listener
So what's the problem?
Person Selling Car
That is the problem. Nothing in my life goes as smoothly. I'm waiting for the catch.
Friend/Listener
Maybe there's no catch.
Person Selling Car
That's exactly what a catch would want me to think.
Friend/Listener
Wow. You need to relax.
Person Selling Car
I need to knock on wood. Do we have wood?
Table Commenter
Is this table wood?
Friend/Listener
I think it's laminate.
Person Selling Car
Okay.
Table Commenter
Yeah, that's good.
Person Selling Car
That's close enough.
Friend/Listener

This episode is powered by Fuse Energy. Before we kick off a quick pre match warm up from Fuse, a question on the teams and players who make things count. Who has scored the most Premier League goals as a substitute?
Alan
I. I know this one.
Gaz
Oh dear.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Oh, Mike, you know. Well, let. Shall we let Alan go first then?
Gaz
Well, I'm gonna go for Jermaine Defore.
Alan
He's cheating again. Someone's giving him the answers.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Do you think that's the answer though, Mike?
Alan
That's the correct answer. I knew that because I seen it stat the other week.
Fuse Energy Host
Call it an honorable floor, but whoever gets the right answer for who's second wins.
Alan
It's gotta be Chikorita, surely.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Oh, you go.
Gaz
I'm going Giroud then.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Yeah.

Host (possibly main presenter)
Hello and welcome to the rest Is football an episode of our Premier league greats the moments that made them in this episode. It's actually one of one of my favourite players for reasons that I'll come to later in the show. He graced us by his presence for many years at Chelsea. He ended up going to Real Madrid. My first question about Mr. Hazard is. Is it Eddin or is it Eden? Cause I think I've called him Eden. Eden. All sorts of things. And I don't really know Eden. I think it's peasant.
Alan
I think it's. Do you.
Host (possibly main presenter)
I've kind of gone with Eden towards the end, but.
Alan
Well, tomato, tomato. Same thing, isn't it?
Host (possibly main presenter)
You said.
Alan
Eh?
Host (possibly main presenter)
You said tomato.
Alan
What?
Gaz
You said tomato.
Host (possibly main presenter)
It comes from a song, you know.
Alan
What song?
Host (possibly main presenter)
You said tomato, I said tomato. You said potato. I said potato.
Alan
What era is this, mate? Tomato, tomato. Oh, yes, I have heard it, yes.
Host (possibly main presenter)
I can't sing that.
Alan
Don't make me sing. Who sang that?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Come on. Someone in the room must know that
Alan
I got that last bit that year.
Host (possibly main presenter)
That's what it's all about. Something like that. So we're gonna go with Eddon in this show, Adam. Cause I'm in charge. Okay. Okay. I think he's a fascinating personality and a player that. Do you know you actually played against?
Alan
No, but you're about to tell me I did.
Host (possibly main presenter)
For how long? In one match. We've just clipped up the start of it. Here we go. This is Eden Hazard coming on as a substitute. What's he done here in the early days? Very, very early.
Alan
Oh, get off, Reddy. Look at.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Get up, will ya? That's not Eddie Hazard, that's.
Alan
Oh,
Host (possibly main presenter)
that is Diego Costa, who's like you.
Alan
Yes. Look at the big meat.
Zepbound Advertiser
That's a free kick.
Host (possibly main presenter)
And that is in the game that Hazard came on in.
Alan
He tried to get me sent off. He did.
Gaz
He was just a bully, weren't you?
Alan
Look at that. I was trim back there, weren't I?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Was that your only good moment at Vil? And then on he comes. And he was witnessing that from the sidelines while you did that vicious attack on that very, very quiet and timid Diego Costa.
Alan
So how long did I play with him?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Seven minutes.
Alan
Seven minutes.
Gaz
So you know what happened? He actually went to the other side so he could just stay away from me.
Alan
I was playing centre after, I think. Yeah, I played all right in that game, actually. I think. But Diego Costa was being. And he's such a nice guy off the field, you know that. On the pitch, he was just horrible for no reason. Tried to get me sent off.
Host (possibly main presenter)
That's awful. Often the case, isn't it?
Alan
Yeah.
Host (possibly main presenter)
With players that go a bit bonkers on the pitch.
Alan
Did you see the strong arm, though, who's a foul. Foul.
Gaz
Pushed him. Was a foul.
Alan
Never.
Host (possibly main presenter)
That actually wasn't one of our moments, but we'd found that.
Alan
Oh, you Found it for me. Is that the highlight of my career? No, it could be.
Host (possibly main presenter)
I think it's been in podcasting personally, but. Right. A clear defining goal against Arsenal. I think we all remember this one.
Alan
Oh, don't. Don't play it, don't play it.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Hang on.
Alan
It's Coquelin, isn't it, that he barged off? Yeah. Yes, I remember this.
Host (possibly main presenter)
No, if ever you want to put a good slant on the word destructive, it's Kante Assar. Creative and running at Koshelny Aid Nassar's gone all the way and scored a beautiful, beautiful goal.
Gaz
See, they were just petrified of defenders. He could go both ways. They didn't have a clue where he was going to go.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Do you think his final flurry there, where he finishes it, do you think he meant to bounce it into the ground over the goalkeeper? Or do you think it was a miss kick?
Alan
If it was Ozil, I would say yes, but I don't think he's meant to do that, even though he's capable of doing that. I just think he's.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Ages ago, across the air, stubbed it into the ground.
Alan
Did you see the Ozil technique? I know we're not talking about Ozel, but the little battle?
Host (possibly main presenter)
That's why I asked.
Alan
Yeah. But I don't think on that particular moment, though.
Host (possibly main presenter)
No. In terms of talent, for a couple
Alan
of years, he was the best player.
Host (possibly main presenter)
I mean, you know, the last episode, I think it was, was with Cristiano Ronaldo. And I think there's a slight difference in. Probably not that much difference in ability, but a slightly different attitude between the two.
Gaz
I think maybe one of the frustrating things with Eden Hazard was, is that you knew he could do that. Could he have done it more?
Alan
Yeah, at Madrid? At Madrid, definitely at Madrid.
Host (possibly main presenter)
I think by that stage he was really struggling with his ankle. I mean, he was in a bad way and he couldn't get himself fit. I think if he had gone without injuring his prime, I mean.
Alan
Yeah, if he would have went earlier.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Did he give him. I mean, only he can answer the fact. Did he give it himself? The best chance to succeed at Madrid? In terms of how he lived, I've no idea.
Alan
I think when he went to Madrid, he thought that talent would be enough and it wasn't married up by the injury as well. Ankle injury. It was going to be difficult because playing against some Spanish teams, the press, you know, don't give you time on the ball. In terms of what he did in the Premier League, like I said, he's one of the. The best to ever do it. But I think when you go to Madrid and you're not fully fit. He just wanted to play football, like, look at Ronaldo. Made sure he was prestige everything he did. Hazard was more of a street baller. Wanted to entertain
Gaz
a strong runner with
Alan
a ball, wasn't he?
Gaz
For someone being so small, how strong he was to knock off the ball.
Host (possibly main presenter)
It's funny in football, isn't it? So many sports you have to be big and strong and distant. But in, you know, in football, people like Hazard or Maradona or Messi, you know, really pretty diminutive.
Alan
Yeah. Ooh, diminutive. I love that word.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Feel free to use it.
Alan
So what's the context? I could use it small. Oh, small. Diminutive. I use it this weekend.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Okay. Get it in. Get it in. Match of the day. No, you're not doing much of that. Get it in your next broadcast for me.
Alan
Next broadcast, okay.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Because we used to do that. I do that quite a lot. My mates used to come and even the boys, my lads get a word in. They get a word and you've done it. We've all done it on it and you get silly words in. I got bloody complaints from one of mine, though. I had to get the word in cappuccino.
Alan
Right, but why we can't give you a word? That was.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Well, my mates were out for dinner and they go, you got. We probably have been like, cappuccino. And they said, you can't get the cappuccino into mash of the day. I'm going, oh. So anyway, so mash the day goes. And then there's the section where you do the trails of what's coming up, like tomorrow night. Mash the day two, blah, blah, blah. Women's football on so and so, whatever we're reading through. And one of this time there was tennis at Wimbledon or something, and I said, I just put it in the seat. And then tennis is at 2 o' clock and after the tennis is playing, you can have a cappuccino and keep yourself awake for most of the day or two. And I. Right, bon.
Alan
That's a good way to get it in.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Somebody, like, complained to something, saying, oh, why is he. You know, he's not a man of the people. Fucking cappuccino. Why can't he just say coffee?
Alan
What are the things?
Host (possibly main presenter)
I've been hammered for him. It was. And I remember showing that has this person's complaint. I think it was actually a written letter to the BBC that's what it was, was it? It was an attitude in newspapers. So I take that back. But yeah, it was a complaint.
Alan
Oh, dear.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Because I was too posh, saying cappuccino, hot coffee.
Alan
That's ridiculous.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Oh, dear. Honestly. Oh, part the fun. Let's have a look at another great Eden Hazard goal. This one's against Liverpool. And as are changing gear and steering in a beauty. Oh, that's better than the Arsenal goal,
Gaz
you know, don't you think it's unbelievable.
Host (possibly main presenter)
That is what ability that is.
Gaz
Look, he's just trying to draw you in knowing that he's going to knock the ball past you.
Alan
Look at his close. Oh, his bars.
Host (possibly main presenter)
He's one of my favorite players to watch.
Alan
That's what the game's missing. Now this. This is what the game is missing.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Yeah. Individual beat. Four or five players. You don't see it very often, do you?
Alan
I want to see more of that.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Cool. Don't we?
Alan
It excites you, gets you going. Yeah.
Host (possibly main presenter)
I mean, to be honest, we never get an abundance of that. And we've probably saying when, you know, before he time that, oh, what we need is a bit more Maradona. And then Messi comes along. I'm not comparing Hazard with.
Alan
No, but I mean, just that he's a bit of a maverick, wouldn't he? You know, and he was. Everything now is. And we're pundits, don't we? It's all about shape and it's all just a bit. I don't want to say robotic, because everyone says robotic, but I mean, the way everything moves, everything's in sync, isn't it? And if someone does something out of the ordinary, it's almost like, oh, they should be doing that.
Host (possibly main presenter)
I think it's always been about that sort of thing is out of the ordinary. I think it always has been.
Alan
Yeah, but I think you're allowed to do that. I don't think players are allowed to express that anymore. Somebody playing the Premier League who does that, where you can sit down and think, oh, my God, I love watching you every week because I know you're going to do something ridiculous. No, but that's in a different way.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Jeremy Docker tries.
Alan
No, but that's different as well, isn't it? Because he'll go out wide.
Host (possibly main presenter)
No, I'm talking about he will try and take someone on. Now, obviously he's not in the same league as Eden Hazard, but I don't. Do you think that's being coached out of the game? I mean, you're talking about doing your analysis and stuff. But in your analysis that's. I mean, what you gonna do? What are you gonna say on that? Oh, he beat one man, individual brilliance. Whereas in shape you can explain things better. So analytically it's easier.
Alan
Yeah, but we can still explain it. You can say there's nothing that the defence could do because basically he's got in between the defence and midfield and they don't really know how to deal with that. But because of the rest of the shape, it allows hazard to get on the ball. There's, you know, that's the way I would look it from the other way, but I want to see more of that.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Yeah, don't we? We really do.

Host (possibly main presenter)
It's interesting. It always seems to be a debate about these two players, which one's the best? And I don't know why they go with these two because they're very different players, personalities. But they're both diminutive and that's Eden Hazard and Mo Salah. They're different, aren't they? Comparisons and stuff.
Alan
I wouldn't say it's the same, but it's like Messi's football player and Ronaldo. And Ronaldo goal scorer different. They're just different, aren't they? Mo Salah takes more pride in scoring goals. Hazard takes more pride in maybe creating something magical or doing something magical.
Duluth Trading Co. Advertiser
Yeah.
Alan
So the different players, I would say,
Gaz
yeah, I would go along with that.
Alan
I mean
Gaz
his numbers obviously don't compare with goals, but you've got more chance of getting the spectacular from Eden Hazard than you have Mo Salah. Not that he can't produce a spectacular as we've seen it, but more often, yeah, definitely.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Possibly. Yeah, there's definitely room for both of them. I would say he played under some obviously decent coaches. Eden Hazard, Mourinho and Conte as well. And this was the Champions title winning season in 2016. 17. Costa may have got wind of the fact he's about to be withdrawn. Here's Hazard.
Alan
Oh,
Host (possibly main presenter)
A goal befitting the champions. What about that for finish?
Alan
See, that's a celebration. Not that bit the fit before. Just like look at me, look at me.
Gaz
He does that looks again with the defender because he has to give him that much space because he doesn't know what way he's going. He probably thinks, right, I'm going to stop your gun on your right hand side, which Then shows him too much on his left and he was deadly with that as well.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Conte made a real impact that season, didn't he, when he came in? Yeah, yeah.
Alan
He's a good coach though, Conte, isn't he?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Well, obviously, yeah.
Alan
There's been complaints about him. The way he runs his teams too much so they can't replicate.
Gaz
Runs them as in fitness wise.
Alan
Fitness runs them to the ground. And then they have really good seasons, one or two seasons. And the third season they just run out of steam. But he wins trophies. That's the most important thing.
Host (possibly main presenter)
That was Pep Guardiola's first season, wasn't it? Wasn't it? When he came? Yeah, everyone was going, pep can't do what he did in Spain. Here he can't build out from the back.
Alan
Now look at him.
Host (possibly main presenter)
I think he proved them wrong. Yes, I think you've proved them wrong, Al, don't you? Just a bit. Yeah. This is my favourite bit. I'm a bit to talk about. Any ideas what it might be?
Gaz
Over to you then, Gaz.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Any idea what it might be? Eden Hazard's equalizing goal for Chelsea against Tottenham Hotel Mikel. Chelsea playing with a desperation which would hint, if you didn't know otherwise, that they were chasing the title. Costa away from El Nabarel. Diego Costa.
Alan
Glorious goal. Leicester's goal.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Now, ordinarily I'll be cheering Tottenham on in this game, but under these circumstances, Tottenham needed to win to stay in the title race in 201516 season when Leicester City. Leicester City won the league. And that goal made me cry. Micah did it, Alan. I cried.
Gaz
Brilliant.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Yeah, understandable. They were two nil up, weren't they? Tottenham. And then he did that. I will always love the little fella for it.
Alan
So what game would that have been? Is that a couple before the end, was it? When did you win the league?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Two or three games before the end of. I think there were two more games left for Leicester. Leicester could conceivably have lost it, but if Tottenham would have won it would Leicester. I think we're playing. I think he played Swansea or something. We won that game anyway, but we might. But there was no pressure. Or did they win or did they draw?
Alan
When was it when he was at Vardy's house? Was that when he actually won it?
Host (possibly main presenter)
That was. So everyone's at Vardy's house. I'm at home watching with all my boys and my mate JD and we had a little film crew from the BBC as well. And oh my word, when that went in, we Were chomping up and down, hugging each other. It was just.
Gaz
Was it a late night?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Oh, it was, yeah. We got a bottle open, we got another bottle open and we're hugging my boys. And it's so like, even George, who's a Man United fan. But I think the whole country, booger. The whole country got behind Leicester at that point and everybody wanted them to do it, except probably Tottenham and Arsenal fans who were in contention to a degree. But, you know, such a miracle that, you know, so beautiful even now, like Leicester on the brink, got, you know, suspension and might go down, but you think to yourself, would I swap the
Alan
last 10 years, apart from Aguero moment. That's the best story, isn't it?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Oh, it's the best. I mean, it's impossible. That's why it's impossible. Three seasons before they're in League one. I mean, they managed to get up, then got promotion into the Premier League. Stayed up by winning something like six, seven of the last nine games of the season, which was perhaps a sign that something might be better the following season. Nigel Pearson lost his job that summer because something happened in Thailand and his lad was involved. And then they bring in Claudio and they win the league.
Alan
When did you believe, though? Remember there was a goal against Liverpool.
Host (possibly main presenter)
That was quite early. I did when Leicester went to Manchester City and they won 3 1. That's when he 31 away from home. And I thought we can actually do. They can actually. But do you know what? It was weird. I know we're digressing here, but it's all because Eddon scored that. Winning that equaliser that made it possible. But all the last seven, eight, nine
Fuse Energy Host
games, they were all switched to a
Host (possibly main presenter)
Sunday, which was good. Cause I didn't really want to. I started to get really nervous and
Fuse Energy Host
the closer it got, the more nerve wracking it got.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Because you suddenly thought, oh, if it doesn't happen now, it'd be so awful. And then every game seemed to be like 1 nil and we were hanging on and 1 nil and 2, 1 nil. I remember watching a game in Barcelona, Brianatelli with all the boys and we watched a game that was two, two, that was really tight and then. And somehow they just kept winning one nil and this. And then it got right towards the end and then. I still remain convinced that if Hazard hadn't scored that goal. I'm still not sure.
Gaz
Have you ever spoken to him about it?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Yes, you have saw him at the Ballon d' Or a few years ago. And he was in the same hotel as us. We had a good chat with him and boy, what a sweet guy. What a lovely, lovely chap. And I said, man, you're my hero.
Alan
I hope you bought him a nice
Gaz
bottle of wine or a pint or something, did you?
Host (possibly main presenter)
I won't get that far.
Alan
Then you got your kit off, didn't you, on Match of the Day.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Yeah, exactly. I mean, that was. There's a downside to everything. Oh, dear. Fantastic. Anyway, let's go towards the latter stages of his Chelsea career. Final flourish, we could say.
Alan
Aza taking West Ham on, on, on and on.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Astonishing. Absolutely amazing.
Alan
But typical of the man, there's another
Host (possibly main presenter)
one of these fabulous individual goals that he scored, just weaving his way through.
Alan
That's what we. This is what we missed. This.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Well, there are so few players can do this and it's always been like that.
Alan
Look at his feet there.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Quick feet.
Gaz
How quick?
Alan
Oh, that little touch in. See you later. And then the finish off.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Brilliant.
Alan
Absolute geniuses. Oh, watch that all day, couldn't you?
Gaz
Brilliant. So quick.
Host (possibly main presenter)
Fabulous stuff. Final words on Eden Hazard. I mean, it's a shame that his career petered out because of injury, I would say. Yeah. I mean, his ankles were absolutely smashed.
Alan
We miss him.
Host (possibly main presenter)
It's not surprising you've got ankle injury. Is he the way turned and moved and getting kicked?
Alan
Should we try and get him on the pod?
Host (possibly main presenter)
Oh, I'd love to get Aden on Eden, if you're listening, we've said very nice things about you. Please come. Okay, that's it for this episode. Goodbye from me.
Alan
Goodbye from me.
Gaz
Goodbye from me.

Episode: Eden Hazard: The Moments That Made Them
Date: April 22, 2026
Hosts: Gary Lineker ("Host"), Alan Shearer, Micah Richards ("Gaz")
In this lively episode, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, and Micah Richards revisit the career of Eden Hazard, focusing on the key moments that defined his legacy in Premier League and beyond. The trio blend football insight with playful banter, exploring Hazard's technical brilliance, his transition to Real Madrid, the impact of injuries, and his place among Premier League greats. They reflect on iconic goals, memorable matches, coaching influences, and the unique "maverick" quality Hazard brought to the pitch.
The hosts open with a lighthearted debate over the pronunciation of Hazard’s first name—“Eden” or “Eddon”—settling, with typical irreverence, on "Eddon" for the episode.
Alan jokes about nostalgic references and playful back-and-forth on classic songs.
“Tomato, tomato. Same thing, isn’t it?”
— Alan (02:57)
Alan Shearer is reminded he played against Hazard for only 7 minutes, humorously reflecting on his own (and Diego Costa’s) on-pitch antics.
“He tried to get me sent off. He did.”
— Alan (04:18)
They dissect one of Hazard’s most famous goals against Arsenal:
“If it was Ozil, I would say yes, but I don’t think he’s meant to do that... Just think he’s…”
— Alan (06:03)
The group celebrates Hazard’s solo goal against Liverpool as potentially superior to the Arsenal one for its artistry and technical mastery.
“That is what ability that is.”
— Gaz (10:10)
They revel in Hazard’s weaving solo run against West Ham as typical of his genius.
“Astonishing. Absolutely amazing.”
— Host (22:06)
Discussion on what set Hazard apart:
“For someone being so small, how strong he was to knock [people] off the ball.”
— Gaz (07:44)
