Alan Shearer
Hello and welcome to the rest is football. With Mike and Richard, Alan Shearer and me, Gary Enico. We've got another episode of Premier League greats the moments that made them. And in this one we've got someone that was looking like they might challenge certain Han Shearer's goal scoring record at one point in the Premier League. I'm sure you've already guessed it. He's now starring in Germany and banging in goals for fun, the great Harry Kane.
Gary Lineker
There's still time.
Richard Keys
Yeah, there is. Going back.
Alan Shearer
He's not going to come back.
Gary Lineker
He could come back. Why, what's he offer you? I'm not sure you know exactly the amount.
Richard Keys
47 is it?
Gary Lineker
So realistically that'd take him 43 seasons if he doesn't come back.
Alan Shearer
Well, the way he's scoring goals now, two probably. If he played all the. He had 2:47, he would have. But why would he come back just to beat his record?
Gary Lineker
I would definitely go over there, win some trophies, come back.
Alan Shearer
What is he now, 32?
Gary Lineker
Yeah.
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Gary Lineker
So if he does two more seasons there, that's 34.
Alan Shearer
So you think he score that amount of goals when he's 35, 36.
Gary Lineker
That's a free. Free seasons, yeah. No disrespect, Danny Welbeck's still scoring goals, isn't he?
Alan Shearer
Not anything like enough to challenge the
Gary Lineker
likes of 47 free seasons. He could do that. Depending what team.
Alan Shearer
Hey, depending what? I just can't, I can't see why he would leave Germany. He's playing for a great club, he's scoring a goal A game on average, if not slightly better. At present he's, you know, unless there's family reasons. Homesick, something like that. But, God, he'd be treated like a king there. They must love him.
Gary Lineker
Would you not come back now?
Richard Keys
Great discussion, lads. I'm enjoying this.
Gary Lineker
I would definitely come back. Imagine having that tag just for that. Premier League top goal scorer. That's just. It's got a ring to it.
Alan Shearer
Oh, I don't. I'm sick of hearing it.
Gary Lineker
This fight. This bell's getting so much work.
Richard Keys
Show me some respect then.
Alan Shearer
I really hate.
Gary Lineker
Oh, hello. How you doing, man?
Alan Shearer
But the thing is, you know what happened. He'll come back and Ireland will go past him anyway. In fact, probably before he comes back, because he's not going to come back now. He's not going to let him go, are they? Bayern Munich?
Gary Lineker
No, not now. Not now.
Alan Shearer
I mean, you know, if he, if, if he goes to them and says, I desperately want to go home, I'm a bit homesick. Strange, then where's he gonna go? But his age, right? So realistically now we're talking at least 33. Probably before he went. Yeah, maybe 34. Who's gonna spend a fortune on a player? There's no. You're not gonna get anything back. You. Spurs. Spurs, Spurs. But that, that would be two spurs, wouldn't it? To do that and pin all the hopes on someone in their mid-30s, it's
Gary Lineker
guaranteed goals, isn't it?
Alan Shearer
I'm not sure it is. When you get to. No, because, you know. No, it's not. I mean, he could do. He could do what Lewandowski's doing. He could do what Ronaldo did. But don't forget Lewandowski's playing for Barcelona. I mean, I don't want to be rude to Tottenham, but we all know in real terms you finish in the league table roughly equivalent of your spending power and what you buy. I mean, you can talk about great coaches and they prove things and they have good spells at clubs, but generally it's usually around however much you budget for. And Tottenham, you know, they're on that scale. They're a mid table club and I played for them. I really like Tottenham, but. And they're a well run business, but they're not run as a football club, so. So would they be good enough to do that at that stage? I cannot say. I think your record's safe until Harlem beats it. And if Harlan be here long enough,
Richard Keys
I'm not sure he'll be.
Alan Shearer
Well, it depends. If something ever happens with 115 charges. If anything ever does happen with that and then they suddenly get knocked down to League one or two, which I don't think anything like that will happen. But if something like that happened, then he'd probably leave and things would change. But given a fair run, if there's. If there's not a relegation punishment for Manchester City, if there's any punishment at all, then I think Haaland, without any major injuries will at some point beat your. And I just want to be alive.
Richard Keys
Someone better hurry up and do it.
Alan Shearer
That's going to be one great episode of Rest is Football.
Gary Lineker
I'd love that.
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Richard Keys
What a player he is. Do you know what I like about him?
Gary Lineker
Yeah.
Richard Keys
He's had to do the hard work first. As in it didn't work for him at the beginning. He had to go on law and work really hard.
Alan Shearer
He went to Orion, Millwall, Leicester and Norwich.
Richard Keys
It was that which tells you how,
Alan Shearer
you know, he couldn't get in the Leicester team.
Richard Keys
Yeah, I know. It's crazy, isn't it, when you think. I mean his attitude. To be knocked down, to be say, to be told, not quite good enough, we're going to send you out on loan. Actually not quite good enough on loan. We're going to send you somewhere else. And then to come back from that and do what he's done and doing is. Is remarkable. And then to. Not only to do it in the. In the Premier League and in Germany, to be. To be England captain, to do it at the highest level, to score and get golden boots and all of this, it's.
Alan Shearer
I've got so much respect in time for him and he's such a top guy. Seems as well, really. Well, I. I saw a clip recently. Have you. You must have seen it. We've all seen it. But I tend to see it a lot because of. Obviously it gets thrown at me a bit. You ever seen the goal where Leicester get a penalty in the last minute and it's basically battling for. To go up and. Or to reach the playoffs, I think. And Leicester get a penalty. And it was a dive, to be honest. The keeper saves it. The ball goes right up the other end of the pitch. Ball's crossed Troy Dini scores that famous goal.
Gary Lineker
Right.
Alan Shearer
And there's a little cut on there. Where on the bench for Leicester. Vardy and Kane. All right? Yeah. No, he didn't. Couldn't even get on in Leicester's team.
Gary Lineker
And then finally, who missed the penalty?
Alan Shearer
Njok. Yeah. I can't miss the p. He Won the penalty. Although he definitely dived. He definitely dived. Even as a Leicester man, I recognise
Gary Lineker
a dive when I see one just on that. Is it dove or dived? Because I've heard people say dove. Is that a word?
Alan Shearer
He dived, yeah.
Gary Lineker
Dove or he dove.
Richard Keys
I'm like, that's a soap.
Gary Lineker
I thought, I've dove. Look. What is dove a word? Come on. It is. You see? It is.
Alan Shearer
Other soaps, other soap brands are available
Gary Lineker
unless you want to sponsor them. Okay.
Alan Shearer
And then they're definitely available.
Gary Lineker
What is dove is a word.
Alan Shearer
Yes. Dove's a word. Yeah, yeah.
Gary Lineker
He dove.
Alan Shearer
He dove.
Gary Lineker
So why do people say it's the past tense? Yeah, but he dived. People just say dive, don't they? He dived. Yeah, but he dove. Do you know what I mean? Well, he dove. That's what I'm saying.
Alan Shearer
He definitely.
Gary Lineker
No, the brain's in here.
Alan Shearer
You definitely don't go, he doved.
Gary Lineker
Okay? He dove, past tense, and he dived. Why do people say he dived then? Because that's past tense.
Alan Shearer
Because it's a. It's the male version of it. It's she, dove. He dived.
Gary Lineker
Can someone. Can someone explain that?
Richard Keys
They're just both.
Alan Shearer
They're abnormally. There are both. There are certain terms that are like that, that boast. Both things are.
Gary Lineker
Yeah, okay.
Alan Shearer
He shined, he shone. There's one.
Gary Lineker
Ah,
Alan Shearer
yes, There you go. So I still am the brains.
Gary Lineker
So you are the brains. Yes.
Alan Shearer
Not.
Gary Lineker
It don't sound right, does it?
Alan Shearer
Yeah. This episode is powered by Fuse Energy. Before we kick off, a quick pre match warm up from Fuse. Today's question is, which club recorded the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season? Was it A, Manchester City, B, Liverpool, C, Aston Villa or D, Arsenal?
Gary Lineker
I'm gonna play reverse psychology here. Why would you put Villa in there?
Alan Shearer
Is that your answer?
Gary Lineker
No, it's not. I'm going Liverpool.
Alan Shearer
Liverpool. That was a quick change there, wasn't it, Alan? Who are you going for?
Richard Keys
Villa.
Alan Shearer
Mike has sucked you in there, hasn't he?
Richard Keys
Yes.
Alan Shearer
That is not the answer. The answer, the team that recorded the most clean sheets of which neither of you even gave him.
Gary Lineker
You know what? I know it.
Richard Keys
I don't know it.
Gary Lineker
It's Arsenal because Raya got the most. He got the Golden Glove, didn't he?
Alan Shearer
Correct. It's arsenal with 13 clean sheets. The best sides don't give things away. It should be the same with your energy. Get more than just lower rates@fuseenergy.com football. Use the code.

How important do you think it is for. For players to maybe go out on loan when they're young? Particularly, I suppose. Particularly if you're at a club where you're not getting.
Gary Lineker
You just have to play, don't you?
Alan Shearer
You didn't have to go on loan, did you? Well, because you were too.
Gary Lineker
Well, I did in the end.
Alan Shearer
Yeah. Did you? You never went on.
Gary Lineker
You. Yeah, I went on load to Fiorentina. Did I?
Alan Shearer
Oh then, yeah.
Gary Lineker
Where I played against Harry Kane again. We won that game. No, I was playing up against. I was playing right back. Shadley, I think it was.
Alan Shearer
What was that in Europa.
Gary Lineker
Europa League.
Alan Shearer
Europa League. What round?
Gary Lineker
It might have been quarters. We got, we.
Alan Shearer
Oh really?
Gary Lineker
Yeah, we got. Then we went to Seville and got absolutely battered.
Alan Shearer
Well, they used to. The Spanish clubs won the that competition year in, year out. So good all sorts.
Gary Lineker
Seville and Villareal was so good around that time.
Alan Shearer
Right, our first moment of. And there are a lot of moments for Harry Kane. There's a lot of great goals in there. That's his first goal in the Premier League, Ericsson. And it's stared in Harry Kane, who's got into some good positions in this game. First of many.
Gary Lineker
Squad number 37. Yeah, I don't remember him.
Alan Shearer
How many goals you've got to score before you get the number of your choice
Gary Lineker
depend because you. You lot was horrible. Lil, you know, you've seen your pros.
Alan Shearer
What do you mean? You.
Gary Lineker
You lot was horrible.
Alan Shearer
What do I mean?
Gary Lineker
How you couldn't come in what cars you wanted, you couldn't get what number you had to clean boots and all that.
Alan Shearer
Well, that's. Everyone's an apprentice, you mean.
Gary Lineker
It was nonsense, absolute nonsense. How am I cleaning someone's boots and I'm better than them? Makes no sense.
Richard Keys
See, I totally disagree with that. No, it was the best thing ever. The old apprenticeship.
Alan Shearer
Cleaning. Yeah, cleaning the boots, cleaning the dress room.
Gary Lineker
Cleaning your boots would have been.
Richard Keys
No, cleaning the pro boots. Yeah, it's good for you.
Alan Shearer
Like washing the dressing rooms, cleaning the loose.
Richard Keys
Respect.
Gary Lineker
No, no, you can have respect, but I'm not cleaning your boots.
Richard Keys
If you're a 16, 17 year old, you should be doing that.
Alan Shearer
It's like military service. You used to have to do it, you didn't want to do it, but you have to do it. I mean nowadays we don't have military Service, it might come back, who knows? They're talking about it.
Gary Lineker
No, I didn't.
Alan Shearer
No.
Gary Lineker
I don't mind getting the boots ready and all that sort of stuff and sorting out the kit and all, putting it up, hanging it up, that's like a pleasure. But cleaning someone's boots.
Alan Shearer
Clean your own boots, clean your own.
Gary Lineker
Good job.
Alan Shearer
I was in charge of cleaning the first team dressing room at Leicester. Even though the Training ground was 10 minutes away, we used the dressing room at Filbert Street. So my job was basically clearing up the kit and mopping the thing, cleaning the loos and all that sort of stuff and had spicks back. But in those days, far different from now. I say once again now, Micah, that you only have one training kit which you wore in the week and then at the weekends it would get laundered and washed. So. And they used to have these hanging baskets and I had to put, find the number on each kit to put on the appropriate hanger and then we'd put it in a drying room overnight. So if it'd been raining or something like that, blah, blah, blah. Can you imagine what it was like someone's like slip or boxes or whatever. And the socks, the socks used to just stand up on their own and you're talking lots from. And you didn't know which ones were mud and which ones were. Oh, it was so. And the stench in the. It stayed with me forever. The stench of the kit. By Friday when they trained all week, it was. I mean. No, but you know what? It made me hard.
Richard Keys
That was the last time you were hard, wasn't it?
Alan Shearer
Oh, here we go. Again.
Richard Keys
So Micah doesn't like the idea of cleaning boots anyway.
Alan Shearer
No, it's too good for him.
Gary Lineker
No, I know it's spoiled.
Alan Shearer
You see they sport nowadays.
Gary Lineker
You sport the kit, irony kit, all of that salt socks, perfectly. But boots, I would. Yeah, iron the socks, make sure they're all crisp. Yeah, I don't mind that.
Alan Shearer
Is that a thing, ironing socks?
Gary Lineker
Where's this going?
Alan Shearer
No, I just wondered.
Gary Lineker
For your kit?
Alan Shearer
Yes, iron.
Gary Lineker
I don't mind that.
Alan Shearer
Yeah, all right.
Gary Lineker
Washing them, ironing. No problem.
Alan Shearer
Yeah, all right. Our second moment. It's almost a statement, like performance, I think it was when it's a great games when spurs beat Chelsea by I think five, three. Harry scored a couple, got an assist, won a penalty. But you look at him, Harry Kane.
Gary Lineker
Oh, what a goal. One of their own.
Alan Shearer
I mean he is one of the great long range finishers, isn't he?
Gary Lineker
Another number 18.
Alan Shearer
18. He's getting closer to what he wants.
Richard Keys
That's just a brilliant solo goal. It's got everything about it, hasn't it? The balance and the power and the pace and the ability to go past players with the ball and protect the ball and then get your shot away like that into the corner.
Gary Lineker
Oh, look at that one.
Alan Shearer
This is your second goal.
Gary Lineker
I mean, that one.
Richard Keys
What a touch that is.
Gary Lineker
Look at the position he's in, though. His first goal is going one side and then he's going into. To the pocket. Can we say the pocket. Are you all right with that? Get a space.
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Gary Lineker
And then the finish. That's when you talk about. So Thierry Henry was the first one, really, that I saw who would not stick in his position. So he'd be out left, wouldn't he? And then Harry Kane, the way he's been able to develop his game where
Alan Shearer
he's not just a number nine, he's nine and a half, isn't he?
Gary Lineker
He's nine and a half. Yeah.
Alan Shearer
I mean, he can play 10. He's been playing for 10 for Bayern Munich quite a bit this season.
Gary Lineker
And it works when you've got pace.
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Gary Lineker
On the wings.
Richard Keys
And it works, by the way, when you've got his ability to pass it the way he does.
Alan Shearer
Such a good passer. I mean, he.
Gary Lineker
As an.
Alan Shearer
As an all round center forward. He's got, I would say, the only thing that you could probably go if he had a bit more pace, an electric over. I mean, he's not slow, but he's not rapid. I mean that. I mean, if. Could you imagine if he was lying in quick as well? Like Harlan went to the brain though,
Gary Lineker
I think, because he's not quick. That's why he's got such a good brain.
Alan Shearer
He has got incredible football.
Gary Lineker
That's why he drops into them little pockets there. Yeah, he's so good.
Alan Shearer
I mean, he does.
Gary Lineker
And it's hard to defend that. You see where the defenders were there. It's like, what do you do in that situation? Because he's playing as a number nine, but he's going over the left well,
Richard Keys
especially if you've got someone who's prepared to run past him.
Alan Shearer
You need that. Which we didn't. England didn't really have in the Euros until. Or Southgate didn't choose to play that way. You know, I hear he was struggling a little bit fitness wise. And he's back now. Oh, he's his absolute best. Which is. Let's hope he stays that way for England for the World Cup.
Gary Lineker
By the way, just while we're on this topic, have you spoken to Gareth Southgate? I saw him at paddle the other day, let's say that. On the pod the other day.
Alan Shearer
No, no.
Gary Lineker
So I'm at paddle the other day
Alan Shearer
and he blanked you again.
Gary Lineker
He didn't blank me. I don't know if I'm in my own head, but, like, because of the situation at the time and it was quite frosty with you, wasn't he?
Richard Keys
Yeah.
Gary Lineker
So I've still not said hello to him since I saw him in a coffee shop.
Alan Shearer
Remember, he's probably thinking, why you so off with him?
Gary Lineker
Maybe that's.
Alan Shearer
Maybe it. Maybe you got approach. I mean, what do we say? We never saw anything. Anything bad against him.
Gary Lineker
You called him, didn'. You said there was. It's all your fault.
Alan Shearer
Well, were they in the game that we were talking about? Were they?
Gary Lineker
Yes. There you go.
Alan Shearer
I mean, you could have said a different. I could. You know, you could have said they were really, really poor or terrible or awful or. What's the difference?
Gary Lineker
I'm just scared of.
Alan Shearer
It's a swear word. Oh, you can't say a swear word. It's just letters in a different order. The spell a swear word. You know, it's not exactly.
Gary Lineker
Should I go up to him next time I see him and just say,
Alan Shearer
and he was truthful.
Gary Lineker
So sorry, it wasn't me. And Alec, was Gary.
Alan Shearer
Fine, Fine.
Richard Keys
Sir.
Gary Lineker
Sir Gareth. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Alan Shearer
Yeah, He's. I'm sure he's okay. I mean, he's. He's not a child.
Gary Lineker
I know. Yeah.
Alan Shearer
I mean, we all. We're in the world of football. We know people talk about people in football. Yeah. He's not.
Richard Keys
He was a pundit himself. He knows what it is. It's like.
Gary Lineker
But why was he fostering with you then?
Richard Keys
Maybe he didn't like.
Alan Shearer
I think what happens as well is don't forget, right, you're the England manager and you. You're in this, like, bubble with all your team, you know, and you've got Harry Kane there and all. Everyone's around. And then you do a press conference and you sit there and the journalists who don't like to say it themselves go, did you hear what Lineker and Richardson Shearer said about your team? And they just said, they'll say. They said you were shit. And then it's them, oh, why are they constantly having a go at us? It's with no context on what we've said about Gareth in the past and all these sort of things. And that's what happens. So they. So he, by his own admission, he says he never listens to any of this stuff, so he wouldn't have actually heard our discussions and how I think fundamentally fair we were. So I think that's what's probably happened there. But next time I see him, I'll run away. Not at all. He'll be fine. Group chat, getting quiet. Drop a tik tok clip, trends, memes,

Alan Shearer
Right, let's go on to our third moment or this. This great hit against Arsenal. This was in North London Derby. What a massive opportunity for Tottenham this is.
Gary Lineker
And here is Harry Kane for Tottenham. Oh, what a goal. A classic Derby goal from Harry Kane. Catch him if you can.
Richard Keys
Oh, what a goal this is.
Alan Shearer
Isn't it a beauty?
Richard Keys
Oh my word.
Alan Shearer
Yes.
Gary Lineker
Again, look where he is though, guys.
Alan Shearer
I know.
Richard Keys
I mean he has no right to
Alan Shearer
shoot from there, especially with that mask on which he takes off. What number is he now?
Richard Keys
Oh, he's see him even having a little glance, didn't you?
Gary Lineker
Oh, what.
Alan Shearer
What an angle.
Richard Keys
That is brilliant.
Gary Lineker
Top scoring at North London Derby.
Alan Shearer
Top scorer of all time in North London Derbys. All time in Premier League history.
Gary Lineker
Premier League?
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Gary Lineker
14.
Alan Shearer
Wow.
Gary Lineker
It's not bader.
Alan Shearer
Yeah, it's not bad at all.
Gary Lineker
Did you score through the Derby or not?
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Gary Lineker
Did you?
Alan Shearer
Scored two in the semi final. The FA cup for starters. Excuse me, 1990. Well, you asked, I just answered.
Gary Lineker
Very aggressive, you said.
Alan Shearer
I was. That's good. A few against the Gooners. Scored two at highway, actually, for Leicester. One.
Gary Lineker
Did you?
Alan Shearer
My. When I was a kid, yeah. And Tony Woodcock scored too. And the keeper, Pat Jennings was in goal for Arsenal. And this sticks in my head, like. It's weird, isn't it? The odd thing sticks in your head. I was through one on one. I was coming in from like a Thierry Henry position with absolutely no resemblance to Thierry Henry whatsoever in terms of my ability. But as I came in, it was on my right foot and Pat Jennings came out and I thought me, he's miles out. Like he's positioning so bad. He's left me the whole goal to shoot at. So I just went bosh. And as I went to hit it, he done me. He dumb it. And he started to dive across. I thought he gets a hand on it, but not quite enough. And it just. And it just trickled in.
Gary Lineker
So he dove.
Alan Shearer
And then Woodcock scored in like the 95th minute. No, I scored.
Gary Lineker
No, I Said he dove.
Alan Shearer
Oh, he dove.
Gary Lineker
Yes.
Alan Shearer
Yes. I didn't dive. He does.
Gary Lineker
I'm gonna use it. I'm gonna try and use it this weekend.
Alan Shearer
Use it. Use it when you're soaping yourself. I'm suburb. What a strange episode. Strange episode. The complete striker. Yeah, complete, I think, in terms of. Look, this is him. Oh, this is against Crystal Palace. He got two and Bale got the other two in this game, actually. But, I mean, come on. Goodness me. God. So accurate.
Richard Keys
Do you know? I mean, he's starting that, right. And for them. For him then to get into that picture and have that. Into that position, I should say. But then have the picture already in his head where and how he's going to hit it and where he's going to put it. You've got like that to think of that. I mean, look where. Look where he starts off from there and follows it. So he already knows where the keeper is.
Alan Shearer
Yeah, he had a little look up as the balls come into him as well.
Gary Lineker
Yeah.
Alan Shearer
I mean, what a goal. He kisses his wedding ring.
Richard Keys
Do not like his celebration.
Gary Lineker
His celebration is as bad as yours. As bad as bad.
Richard Keys
We'll need to take him out with this conversation.
Alan Shearer
But honestly, if you're a player that say it's full back, so you're. You're not going to score that many goals, so you probably think, I need to do something special. But if you score goal after goal after goal after goal, like Shearer and Kane, then if you, you know, you've got a. You've got to come up with too many things.
Gary Lineker
You have anything?
Alan Shearer
I just got. No, no one. The celebrations weren't really.
Richard Keys
I mean, we celebrated a lot of time. You were two arms in the air.
Gary Lineker
Yeah.
Alan Shearer
Yeah. I don't know, I just. I never had anything thought out about any kind of celebration because nobody did back then.
Gary Lineker
So what. What's your celebration all about?
Alan Shearer
I've never got a clue. Or is it just like it's all about me?
Richard Keys
I haven't got a clue. Just did it when I was young.
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Gary Lineker
And then it just carried on.
Richard Keys
Just happened.
Alan Shearer
Yeah, yeah. Just carried on.
Gary Lineker
It is iconic, though, isn't it? Even though it's. But it's iconic, though. I remember playing one of the striker back in the day. What it was.
Alan Shearer
See, I'm gonna have a press conference now, right. So I'm gonna go, Shearer. And the press goes. Do you know what? Mike thinks you're. They wouldn't even add in the celebration.
Richard Keys
Take that bit.
Gary Lineker
Oh, yeah.
Alan Shearer
That's how they do it. He had that great partnership, didn't he, with Hyung Min son over many years where, you know, assist each other and they score off each other's passes, etc.
Gary Lineker
Oh, that's a lovely ball. Kane to Son for four. Kane and Son and spurs at their very best.
Richard Keys
This is one of the. One of the passes that he plays for son was like typical. Harry Kane is the one. He can go deep and we're talking about when he's got players running off
Gary Lineker
him, that's a great finisher because he can only go there to score really, can't he?
Richard Keys
This pass.
Alan Shearer
Yeah, he's got such a great passing range as well.
Gary Lineker
I mean, them two together.
Richard Keys
Yeah. Dangerous, was it?
Gary Lineker
37 goals and a sister got together in one season?
Alan Shearer
I think.
Gary Lineker
I think goal combinations are called.
Alan Shearer
Yeah. Gonna. Do you think? I think Harry Kane would. Made a brilliant midfield player when the game's open.
Gary Lineker
Yeah. I feel as though passing wise.
Alan Shearer
Yeah, definitely passing wise for sure.
Gary Lineker
But you still have to get around the pitch, don't you, to make that space, you know, drops deep. That's because he's not supposed to be there. So everyone else is already marking their man and he's allowed to get. That's why he's so intelligent. That's why he's so good.
Alan Shearer
I always think it's important to a partnership and it's so helpful if you can trust each other and stuff. I mean, I would pick out Beardsley for me with England and Alan Smith. When I played for Leicester, that was the longest spell out any club was at Leicester. So me and Smudge had a really good relationship. Everton with Graham Sharp, you know.
Richard Keys
Yeah, I was. I was lucky as well. I had Chris Sutton at Blackburn, which worked straight away. Me and Les ferdinand, we had one season together, me and Les.
Gary Lineker
Is that all?
Richard Keys
96, 97. And we scored 49 goals between us.
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Gary Lineker
How many did you score?
Alan Shearer
48. It was. It was.
Richard Keys
I don't know how many. I can't remember how many, but it was 49 between us and the assists and I think he missed two months.
Alan Shearer
Can I ask you a question about your career? Were you ever not the highest goal scorer aside from until once you became a regular? Not your first couple of years?
Richard Keys
Yeah, not. It's last season at Southampton I was. But the three or four before that I wasn't.
Alan Shearer
No, that's right.
Richard Keys
And there was a couple in Newcastle when I was out injured for a while.
Alan Shearer
Oh, for the season, yeah.
Gary Lineker
Yeah. Talk about legendary status with Harry Kane. But you the statue when did you know you was getting it?
Richard Keys
It was the old chairman that did it. Freddie Shepherd.
Alan Shearer
Do you know when he did it? He didn't his last year. And he said, this is how you move in
Gary Lineker
more peace than me.
Alan Shearer
Didn't they? Did they move?
Richard Keys
Yeah. It was outside originally. It was just outside the ground. Under the. Under Mike Ashley's.
Alan Shearer
Yeah.
Richard Keys
Era. Then he left and then moved it. Moved it back inside.
Alan Shearer
Just outside. Yeah. That's a bit. It's a bit sad that.
Gary Lineker
It's a nice moment, though, isn't it? We've not talked about. Yeah.
Richard Keys
Harry might have one at spurs soon. Harry.
Gary Lineker
That's what I mean.
Alan Shearer
That's why he'll get one at Wembley if we win the World Cup.
Richard Keys
Just a bit.
Gary Lineker
Yeah.
Alan Shearer
And he'll be captain. Just a bit. It's not impossible.
Gary Lineker
Good shout.
Alan Shearer
Not impossible.
Gary Lineker
Good shout.
Alan Shearer
Yeah. On that note, what a beautiful way to finish this episode of Rest is football. Goodbye from me.
Gary Lineker
Goodbye from me.
Richard Keys
Goodbye from me.
