D
Hi.
B
Hello. I don't know what was going on. Hi.
A
Good morning, everybody. Rod Ryan show checking in.
B
Wow.
A
Welcome aboard, everybody, on this wild card Wednesday. Just before 6 o', clock, we were hearing weird things in the studio, so nobody knew if we were on the air or not. I hope we're on the air. There's little lights that say there's little blinking lights that looks like we're on the air. Hi. Wow. We're going to be busy today, guys. Join us on our journey to try to raise more funds for the Rod Ryan Show Cares foundation to buy backpacks for kids. I got an ask of you on our Facebook page. We're working with the circus again this morning. And I got a real, real simp ask of you. Chili has something pinned to the top of our Facebook page right now. More information on that. Another ridiculously hot day on tap for us. We got Josh the Goat, who's going for win number four in the fresh out of bed Head to head challenge. If you're looking for those pit tickets, motionless and white Saturday night, they're in home room today on the fun fact Flashback suburb summer sizzler. At 8:20, Atasca takes on Baytown. And then we got to move. We got to get right into Mo. Mo. I got you with Houston's headlines.
D
Yes, sir. Making another run at 100 degrees today feels like. Yeah, that's possible. We're calling it an extreme heat Warning, dry air pulling in with that Tropical storm Bertha, the storm still churning in the Gulf. Official landfall could happen later this morning, so we'll keep an eye on her in Louisiana. But a push of rain will hit us here in Houston beginning this evening. Like really 4 to 6pm with potential fast, intense rain lasting over the next couple days. A federal judge has ordered the U.S. department of Homeland Security to halt the deportation of a witness in the deadly shooting by ice age agents in Houston. Now, two weeks ago yesterday, the judge issued the ruling for one of the passengers in the van at the time of the shooting. Mayor Whitmire and HPD chief. The HPD chief have asked the Texas Rangers for an independent investigation. Paying without cash. Yeah, without pennies. It's been causing some problems. We all remember when the government shut down production of the Penny because they cost more than a penny to produce. Well, some people wondered why we hadn't done that sooner. And now it seems like it's causing a little bit of. Some businesses have been rounding to the nearest nickel when getting change. But that doesn't always work everywhere. So now Congress is working to pass a bill called the Common Sense Act. Get it? Hopefully relieve some of these problems. The Odyssey continues to break records in theaters, and it's also breaking audiobook records with its popularity. Audiobook streams of the Odyssey have jumped so much that Spotify says it's on track to be up 680%. People are going back.
A
They're like, I want to listen right now.
B
Yeah.
D
Yeah, let's go ahead and do it. It's hot. Maybe I want to do it before I see the movie. Maybe I do it after I see the movie. But two thirds of those listeners are men and 36% of them are Gen Z.
B
And they didn't pay attention.
D
They didn't. Right, Right.
A
No desire to go back and listen to that. We had to read that.
D
In all, pretty sure I did, too. And speaking of things coming back around, Oasis Wonderwall is back on the charts. They're giving all credit to the World cup because their reunion tour wasn't enough to bring any other singles back to the Billboard top 100. But the world cup was. Wonderwall climbed back to the US charts for the first time since 96, but
A
the television broadcast did a good job of keeping the cameras on the field after the games for all the celebrations.
B
Yeah.
A
And the music was a big part of it. That's where we had the Take Me Home, Country Road or whatever for us.
B
That hey Jude for Jude Bellingham in England.
A
Yeah.
D
So it was.
A
It was fun. And hearing a whole stadium sing this song was cool.
B
We had to play Don't Look Back in anger when they blew that lead to Argentina.
D
Feels good. That's the Houston deadlines.
A
This is what we play when the Astros win.
B
Yeah. And they did win last night again. They beat the Marlins 5 to 3. Jamie Pena and Isak Parades both homered in the game for the stro. They're going to wrap up their series at the Marlins tonight. Peter Lambert's going to be on the mound for Houston, going up against Miami's Sandy Alcantara. First pitches at 7, 10. You can listen to that game on our sister station sports talk. 790. That is what's going on in sports.
A
Okay, I think we're okay. I think we're okay. Guys, strap yourselves in. It's going to be a busy, busy four hours. I've got a real easy, easy ask today. I need you to go to our Facebook page and I need you to use a hashtag to help us get money for backpacks. It couldn't be easier. I'll explain everything. Coming up. I need a first phone call. 713-212-5945. By far and away, the most interactive show on the radio starts right now with me here. 32145. The Buzz Good morning Rod Ryan show. Okay, now I think we have everything worked out here in the studio. Mo, don't roll your eye. Do not roll your eyes. I think I got this.
D
The emails are cracking me up.
A
I don. Know what they're saying. I'm not even looking.
D
I don't have time.
A
I don't have time.
D
When you lose your mind.
A
I'm not losing my mind. I have everything under control. Everything is under control. I can't have anybody losing focus.
D
Let's go.
A
We're fine.
D
Happy Wednesday.
B
We just expect to show up to a studio that works. It's just a normal thing we assume.
A
I got it.
B
We're crazy. We're the crazy ones.
A
Daddy's got this.
D
Thanks.
B
We're good.
A
Hi, guys. Good morning. I'm calm. I'm not losing my mind. I'm completely have everything under control this morning. Welcome aboard on this wild card Wednesday.
B
Wild.
A
All right. I do. I gotta explain what we're doing today. In addition to all the fun things, Josh the Goat going for win number four. Fresh out of bed, head to head. Let me see if the phones work. Let me do that real quick.
D
It's now time for the first phone
A
call of the day. Good Morning, Rod Ryan show. They run. Oh, the phones work. Can you hear them?
D
God bless America.
A
Alex, can you hear this?
B
Yeah, I can.
A
Is this Chris? This is Chris. Hi, Chris. You got the first phone call. How are you, dude? Dude, I'm doing great. Today's my birthday. See, I needed that. I needed that. That main character energy that you have today, being the birthday boy and all. Phones are working.
B
Yeah.
A
Chris, happy birthday to you. How old are you? Well, I'm 43 today. 43. What are you wincing at? 43? Get your head out of your ass. You're 43. Who cares? It's. It's young.
B
Yeah, just getting that.
D
That's right.
A
I just got off of work. I'm working my night, so that's how my birthday is going to be. All right, are you done, like, for the day, or do you got to go overnight tonight? I'll be back tonight again. I do six to six, so. Okay.
B
And then I'll be off this weekend.
A
And this weekend I'm a Caesar ticket
B
holder to the Dynamo. So I'll be at the Dynamo game Saturday when they play Austin fc.
D
Yeah.
A
Okay, dude, tear it up. Tear it up. Happy birthday, Chris. Thank you. Thank you so much. Have a great time. Thank you for. Well, the phones work. Okay.
B
Thank God.
A
Here's my ask today. Can I ask? I was talking about all the great things that we have going on on the show today. I mentioned Josh the goat. I. I mentioned pit passes in homeroom. You're getting into the Saturday Motionless and White show on the Fun Fact Flashback, you're in the pit Saturday night if you win. And then the Suburb Summer Sizzler Atasca Ceta takes on Baytown. But here, here it comes. What's this guy asking me to do today? It's real easy. Our friends at Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus are helping us raise money for backpacks today full of school supplies for local kids who need it. All you have to do is get on our Facebook page and comment with the hashtag ringling Circus. You're like, rod, I'm never going to remember this. Chili has it spelled out for you beautifully right there on our Facebook page. 5 Doll, I'm not asking you for money today. I've already asked the circus for money. If you comment on that post on our Facebook page, it's pinned at the top. If you use the hashtag ringling Circus. And maybe you've got more than one Facebook page, maybe get your family involved. Maybe you get everybody involved that, you know, ringling circus that's $5 if I get a thousand of you to use that hashtag and comment today. $5. $5,000. That's. That's it. That's it. That's all I'm asking today.
D
I did it. That was really easy.
A
I'm not asking you to go and buy the awesome T shirt that I'm wearing today. It is a great T shirt. This awesome T shirt. That is the least selling T shirt.
D
That's so wild.
A
It's just not selling. I'm not asking you to go buy this T shirt today. But if you want to, that'd be great. I'm asking you to put a hashtag on our Facebook page in a comment and that's $5. I can get $5,000 today from the circus folks. All right, so that's my big ass today. All the other fun great things that are happening on the show, guys, let's have some fun today. Let's forget about what just happened with whatever, whatever gremlin was here in the studio all night, just gnashing on these wires. Let's have a good time today. And I'm inviting you on a four hour journey now. A three hour and 40 minute journey. I want you to hang with us all morning long. Have a great time. Sit tight because we're gonna be looking for somebody to play Josh the Goat in the fresh out of bed. Head to head after this, Houston's rock, Houston's alternative and home of the Rod ryan Morning Show.
D
94. 5 the buzz. 94.
A
5 the buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan show. We're good. We're good. We're good. 6:23, get an ext rain heat warning today. True temperature could hit 101. Let's just skip 100. Let's go right to 101 today. Mostly sunny with just next to no chances of rain going on. All right, a lot of you are getting after our Facebook page. Not enough to be trending yet. But I want to get our Facebook page trending because we're working with the circus greatest show on earth coming back to town. We talked about it a lot yesterday. I need you to, I need you to comment with a hashtag on our Facebook page more on that. But right now what is trending?
B
Kaylee Hoddle is trending. The 18 year old Godzilla actress passed away yesterday in a one car accident in Maryland. Apparently she was not driving the car. But it's terrible news to wake up to. Carl Ravitch is trending. Other bad news, the longtime ESPN baseball analyst was let go yesterday, after 33 years with the network Baseball Tonight. I grew up on that.
A
The baseball guy center. Hey, did Cam Newton get let go?
B
I don't know. They've let. They let go. Tom Pelissero yesterday. ESPN's doing a lot of layoffs this week.
A
Yeah, it was a bloodbath over there and I heard that. I didn't even know that Cam Newton still worked there, to be honest with you.
B
I mean, it's not like prime football season, so that maybe. Yeah, that sucks. And then Bruce Springsteen's trending journey's Jonathan Cain called him a bitter old man and told him that he needs to shut up because he says too many political comments that shows Bruce Springsteen has not replied. Bruce Springsteen probably doesn't need to reply to Jonathan Cain, but Jonathan Cain says
A
great things about Kid Rock and Ted Nugent. Yeah.
B
So, okay, so it's one of those things.
A
He doesn't mind when those guys talk. He just doesn't like when Bruce.
B
Okay, just don't say things I disagree with. Yeah, that's pretty much what we got there. All right. But that's what's turning a knife.

5 the Buzz Good morning, Rob Ryan show. Shine down and dead don't die. Well, thank you guys for being up early with us. We know it's going to be extremely hot today. And that's what they're calling it, an extreme heat warning. They have all specific words for where we're gonna land today, but true. Temperatures, highs of around 101. Thank you. We're off to a, a great start. We're working with our friends over at the the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. The greatest show on earth is back at Energy Stadium after 10 years. August 6th through the 9th. Yesterday we were doing the cheap ticket sale for opening night. When you going, Mo? You bringing the family?
D
Yeah, I can't Decide. There's like 10 different shows.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm looking at that as well. So what I'm asking for you today. And very generous of the circus to offer up $5,000 to for US to go buy backpacks full of school supplies. I need you to comment on our Facebook page specifically underneath the Ringling Circus picture. And I need the hashtag Ringling Circus. If I can get a thousand of you to do that, they'll give us five bucks for every hashtag. $5 for 1,000 hashtags. I'll get $5,000. I got 68 of you that have done it so far. I've already done the math for you, Mo. I need, I need 250 an hour.
D
An hour.
A
I need 250 hashtags an hour to stay on pace. Oh, so that we can get the 1000 at 10:00am I wasn't nervous until
D
you did the math.
A
Yeah, 250 an hour is a lot. We're at 68.
D
Yeah.
A
Go 68. Halfway point of the hour.
D
Okay, I like that.
A
But we're not at half of 250. So we're behind. We're pacing behind. Hit us up on Facebook, please. And now it's time for the fresh out of bed, head to head challenge, listeners. Oh, my. Oh, my. Wait a minute.
D
Something not working again.
A
No, no, no. Everything working. That, that wasn't my. Oh, my.
D
Goat. Goat.
A
Goat, Goat. Greatest of all time. It's about Goat. It's about goat. Hi, Josh. Good morning, Josh. Just look at your history. 13 times in the hall, a two time world champion, a trail of dead behind him. Him. Just all these players that he's played, but he's also lost to a few players. I don't know the history like you guys do, but I got a guy on the phone who I hope other John is up. Has it been 30 days?
D
Why is the carpet all wet?
B
Todd, Todd, it's been more than 30 days
A
now. You're a seven time hall of famer, world champion, amateur. What? Who knows the history? Todd, I'll start with you. Do you have history? We've played three times. I beat Josh the first time I ever played him the first time I won it all in the semifinal game in the first time I won. Wow. He knows Josh. Then he lost the next two.
D
Okay, I love that for us.
A
We have two of the all time greats on the phone. What do we have for a prize?
D
We have 311 and Dirty Heads tickets for the Woodland show, August 23rd. Good luck, gentlemen.
A
Good luck, Todd. Good luck, Josh. All right, here we go. Now. I didn't need this kind of stress. No, I'm already stressed out, boys.
D
I'm like, I've been a rough hour.
A
I'm a race car in the red right now. Okay? And then you. And then Todd calls.
B
I cannot.
A
Can I get an easy something here? All right. Shout out your name when you think you know the answer. Guys, it's on YouTube right here in front of me. It's on you to listen to these names. Geez. They might say their name before I answer the question, before I even ask. Shout out your name when you think you know the answer. Todd and Josh is what you're listening for. Which number comes immediately after 17? Oh gosh, Todd.
D
18.
A
Is that right? 17, 18. Yeah, I'm double checking. I'm nervous. Great question, Mo.
D
Thank you. One point. Team Todd
A
was.
B
It wasn't a bag.
D
It was a good way to start.
A
Todd's on the board. Todd just got you, Josh. Take your word for it. Quit. Name the continent that is. Oh, Todd's just laying it out there now. Yeah, Todd. Australia. Name the continent that is also a country. Australia is the correct answer. Damn is right. There's like more than one continent, isn't there? So how did he get that one?
D
7.
A
How did you get that, Todd? I saw where that was going. Name the continent he knew you that you're calling from. Also a country.
D
Freaky.
A
Your game, Todd.
B
Wow.
A
Thank you, Josh. All right, Josh freaks out history. Get back. I'll see you in the tournament. Two and two. All right.
B
Later.
A
Go. Are you kidding me right now, Todd? I'm not kidding about anything. This is serious stuff. You don't seem like you're kidding at all. And the fact that you did it in that fashion, Two questions, two answers. And then getting in as early as you did, that was just downright nasty. You want to play tomorrow? Yeah, I've had a rough year. I need to get into the hall. You got 311 Dirty Heads tickets too. All right, dude, you'll be on tomorrow. It's the buzz. Come on. Yeah. 94. 5. The buzz. Good morning. Rod Ryan show. The ticker can't handle this. Did I take my high blood pressure medicine today? Yes, I did. I should have taken two pills. Good morning, everybody. Rod Ryan show on this wild card Wednesday. First and foremost, you're killing it. You're crushing it. You're doing a great job. I appreciate all the love and the help and the support that you guys are showing on our Facebook page today. My ask is you to just drop a little hashtag. Everything's explained on our Facebook page. We're working with the circus. The greatest show on earth. And we got a chance to get $5,000 for backpacks. So there's that. Then you have two of the greatest players of all time showing up on a day where I'm on the ledge, okay. And I'm pretending that I'm not, but I am. Okay? And then these guys show up and do what they did and wow. Here's the victory speech. The fresh out of bed, head to head challenge. Here's your current champion. Good morning, everybody.
B
This is.
A
Why is the carpet wet? Todd, real quick, a little thing. Yes. It's been over 30 days since I last played. Yes. I'm a seven time hall of Famer and a two time world champion. And I just showed the world how you take down a goat. Two questions, two answers. Join me on Thursday when I make it win number two. All right, well, everybody's kind of feeling like the. Now on the back nine of July, we'll play until Thanksgiving. People are starting to say, hey, I'm not in the hall yet. I need to get into the hall of fame. I need a little sweaty. I. I do feel like there is a little.
B
There's no rush, though. No rush. We don't need to fill it up. We just gotta get to a nice 16 person bracket.
A
I'd like 20, 22 in that bracket. It'd be nice. No, it'd be nice.
B
No, it would not be chaos.
A
What's the fun fact of the day? We make you look smart in front of your buddies. It's the fun fact of the day. All right, here we go. I'm gonna have to kind of move through these quickly today. Here's some fun facts for you today. Henry David Thoreau used pencils to write Walden. And fun fact, I never. You know, I always go the extra mile. Probably got him for free. His father owned a pencil making business near Boston, where he allegedly designed his own pencils before becoming a semi recluse. But, yeah, you know. Ever met somebody that read Walden?
D
I love pencils.
A
Anybody that's quoting Henry David Thoreau, let's go have an IPA together. You're more likely to get hurt at work on a Monday than any other day of the week. Fridays have the fewest injuries.
B
That is fun
D
for today, Rod.
B
You're hungover on Mondays. You don't go on Fridays and you skip out early.
A
I've always said if there ever becomes some kind of crazy scenario where we only work four days a week, I would. Mondays would be the day I would take off.
B
Yeah, Fridays have a vibe.
A
I love Fridays. I mean, Howard Stern's working, what, one day a week now?
D
One day a week.
A
How do you work that? God, I need his agent.
B
No.
A
Yeah, one day a week. That's his deal.
B
It's pretty sick. Gay.
A
Yeah. One live show a week from his basement.
B
He doesn't have to go in now.
A
He doesn't go in the studio anymore?
D
No.
A
He doesn't even do interviews from the studio anymore.
B
You're the king of all media, man.
A
Give me Don Buckwald on the phone, please work my contract. The classic Bill Withers song, ain't no Sunshine. When she's gone. I Know, I Know, I Know. Yes, I will definitely do my best.
A
Why do you think no one does it? Yeah, I'm asking you. You're on the hot seat.
D
I don't know. You're on the hot seat taking pictures up there.
A
Cuz you even yourself having too much fun. You yourself didn't even say yeah. You're like, I'll do my best.
D
I'll do my best.
A
After you get a couple drinks flowing, maybe that's it. You're having. Okay, there. You answered my question. You're having such a good time that you're like, who's this Rod guy? I don't need to send him anything. The guy that sent you there to the pit, the guy that put you in the pit is asking for a picture. Have a great time.
B
Thanks.
A
Thank you. Hang on for me. We're not getting any pictures. Mostly sunny today, no rain, highs of 101. Care to Talk more about the weather?
D
Oh yes, please.
A
Because.
D
Because we are making another run. Hitting 100, potentially 101 like you said. Degrees today feels like 115. Extreme heat warning, it's all that dry air pulling in from Tropical storm Bertha. Yes, she's still churning. Official landfall could happen later this afternoon in Louisiana. Then for us a push of rain will hit us here in the Houston area beginning this evening. It's looking like 4 to 6pm Potentially fast and, and intense and lasting over the next couple days. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Said yesterday that this multi state cyclosporicis outbreak, you know the poop,
A
lettuce thing, nailed it.
D
He said it's under control. And I'm confused because over the weekend the FDA said they had a positive sample but then later determined the result was a false positive. We had the lead in Taylor Farms. Taylor Farms said they were informed that the agency made a mistake. So what's the source? Mr. Kennedy, can you please let us know because I'm still worried about everything I'm eating.
A
It's under control. It's under control.
D
Let's talk about water bottles because apparently they have some sort of stronghold over women in particular.
A
Yeah. And this story is true.
D
We've talked about this before, but now a post is going viral online that basically says every three years or so a new water bottle brand is going to come out and women are going to go crazy over it.
A
It's the new hot purse.
D
Yes.
A
The water bottle that you carry around to show off to everybody is what you, you guys used to have to
D
have the latest purse, a status symbol. But they're like taking it back all the way to the 70s where Nalgene was like the bottle. And that lasted through the 2000s. I remember those in high school.
A
What was the bottle now?
D
Jeans. They were like clear, big, round and you had to screw up the top and they were like a bright color and we put our stickers on them.
A
Okay. So it kind of goes through the. There's an article that Chili has on links and guests and it talks. I didn't really notice it until everybody was losing their mind over the Stanley Stanley.
D
But then now looking back, I'm like, oh yeah, I definitely had the Yeti Rambler. I definitely had the hydro flask, the swell, the camel pack bag thing.
A
Yeah, you're one of those trendy people.
D
I didn't even know I was. But you are and now the owala water bottle. I told you about these.
A
You did, and my kid told me about it. And then that's why we have an oala style bottle available in the Rod Ryan show cares online store. If you want to look cool and you want to look like you have what's up, you have status. If you want the symbol that shows you have status, we have that same bottle on sale right now. $40. It's a 30 ounce ounce insulated vacuum insulated bottle. It's got the two tops and it's options for drinking. It's what all the cool chicks are walking around with.
D
But if you get one from the Rod Ryan show care store. Yeah, it's going back. It's for the kids.
A
And everybody knows that you like kids.
D
That's right.
A
Everybody knows that you're not an idiot. Yeah, everybody knows that you're a nice. You're a good person. You think of others. You're not an animal. Yes.
D
Sad news. The little girl from Godzilla and Kong movies died in a car accident. Accident. Her name was Haley Kaylee Hoddle and she was known for being the deaf actress that could communicate with Kong through sign language. Adorable character that she played in those couple movies. She was 18 years old when she passed away. Not driving at the time. Deaf in real life as well as the rest of her family was. So her father's announcement on Facebook was just heartbreaking. Kayla was a passenger in a car that left the road crash. It appears the driver, 19 years old, may have been speeding. They said speed was a factor. So horrible, horrible story. Now more than ever, we know that mental health is a hot issue. Importance of taking care of your mental health. Undeniable role that music plays in that journey towards having good mental health. Well, funk legend Bootsy Collins has teamed up with a bunch of other big names in music, and they're putting out Mental Health, a guitar heavy rock album that's gonna get your head right through music.
A
It's weird that Bootsy is the anchor of this because there's names that people would know. Now you should know Bootsy Collins, right? And you can even get. Get on me for this. He played with James Brown. He played with Parliament Funkadelic.
D
Okay, okay.
A
But he also played bass on this song. 1990s D Light Groove is in the heart. You guys know this song? Yeah, yeah, that's Bootsy Collins on bass.
D
This makes me feel good. My mental health is quality right now.
A
Yeah, he's, like featured in the video. He even does a little breakdown thing and he sings a little bit in it. But he's putting out this album. But everybody loves this guy. You got Robert Trujillo from Metallica.
D
Yeah.
A
On this thing. Billy Sheehan who is just this legendary rock bass player. And you have a bunch of other artists that are all wanting to be involved in this because mental health is a huge thing right now.
D
They're going to be celebrating with a live stream event for the album's Release that's happening Saturday, 5 to 7pm Bootsycollins.com we'll make sure to link it. Those are Houston's headlines.
A
I feel like I put a smile on you guys face this morning with this song.
D
Yeah, we all needed this.
A
It's a good one. This is a good one.
B
Yeah. Astros got another win last night. They beat the Marlins 5 to 3. Jeremy Pena and ESOC parades both Homer in the game. They're gonna wrap up their series with the Marlins tonight. Peter Lambert's gonna be on the mound for the Stroz going up against Miami's Sandy Alcantara. First pitches at 7:10. You can listen to it on our sister station Sports Talk 790. In soccer, Houston Dynamo FC returned to the pitch tonight. They're gonna host D.C. united at Shell Energy Stadium. That'll kick off at 7:30 and you can watch that one on Apple TV. That is what's going on in sports.
A
Okay. I haven't even checked. We've been. Homeroom's busy on its own. I'll get an update on how you guys are doing on our Facebook page. I need to get a thousand hashtags today underneath the circus post and the hashtag is easy Ringling Circus. Everything's explained on our Facebook page. If I can get a thousand of you to help us out today by just taking five seconds out of your day to drop a hashtag in the comments section there. If I can get a thousand of you to do that, I can get $5,000 to go buy backpacks full of school supplies. So that's how. That's my ask today. We'll get an update. Let's get you guys fired up, man.

94. 5 the buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan show. Wild. It's good.
D
It's a great day.
A
It's good. It's good. It's a great start. Great start to the day. Thank you, guys. That homeroom was. Was busy. It was busy. I'm running around like an ape with his ass on fire. But we got it through. We got through the hour. And just like that, poof. Pit tickets to Motionless and White for today at least are gone. No ch. Chance in hell that chick sending us a picture from the pit. Watch her be the one that sends it. There's two. There's two days left this week. We'll move the pit passes around. You know, Chili's body one of those days. And I'm guessing on Friday, he'll put those pit tickets on. What? Mow the show. He'll make you wait the whole damn show on Friday. He likes to make. He likes to do that. The one thing that he can't move is the suburb Summer Sizzler. That's coming up at 8:20 today, Atascacita. Hey, Daniel, you ready to go? Stacy from Baytown wants to take you down. Atascacita and Baytown are the two suburbs that not only are playing today, but then that means both of those suburbs are closed out. The suburb Summer Sizzler 820 brought to us by Shell Federal Credit Union. One of those suburbs advances in the brackets and gets closer to the $5,000. All right, tickets we gave away in homeroom yesterday are coming up. Candlebox and sponge. Ooh, I forgot to send that email to the wizard. He's listening whiz. We need some sponge in Throwback Thursday this week. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Plowed was their biggest. Molly was their second song. So the amount of one hit wonder Plowed would have have the best chance of winning. That's my suggestion for Throwback Thursday tomorrow. What else? Okay. We're trying to raise some money today, Mo.
D
We are.
A
How are you?
D
I'm so great.
A
You got a Facebook page.
D
I do.
A
Something that maybe like a private little.
D
No, I would never.
A
Monica thing and you know, maybe share pictures with the family and stuff like that.
D
No, no, just have it for work. Okay. Real radio Mo M o.
A
That's your Facebook page. That's your like official. Okay.
B
Okay.
A
You don't have just like a monocle one?
D
I do from like college, but I don't use it.
A
You don't use that one at all. Could I get you to go and drop a hashtag for me or did you already do it?
D
I already did it.
A
You already did.
D
I posted it in my story. Cuz it's so freaking easy.
A
Yeah. How long did it take you to go to the Rod Ryan show Facebook page? Go to the circus post that's pinned to the top Chili. Thank you.
D
Yeah, very easy.
A
How long did it take you to comment with the hashtag Ringling Circus?
D
It took me longer to remember my password to Facebook.
A
Let me just tell you that.
D
It's so easy. I felt dumb. Like, it's so easy. Now I just need to tell the world. Like I need everybody to do it.
A
So, Alex, I think you're probably good for two today. I know that you probably have a private one, whatever this Alex J. Middleton thing is.
B
Wow, that's nice.
A
You probably have a past the gravy one.
B
I do. That's true.
A
So you could go in and comment and you could be responsible for $10 today.
B
Yeah.
A
If you commented. If you commented twice. So if I can get you.
B
Maybe if I hop on my burners, then I get.
A
I get like 15 of them. I don't want to know about your burners.
D
Okay?
A
You wouldn't know. You won't know our friends over at Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. The circus is back in town. You all know that because we were doing the cheap the deep discounted tickets yesterday. Greatest show on Earth is going to be at Energy Stadium August 6th through the 9th. Not only were they so cool to offer up over half off tickets for you to buy yesterday.
D
That was fun.
A
That. That was an exploding offer too. It ended at 10 o'.
D
Clock.
A
800 of you got in on buying those tickets yesterday. Good for you. All I need you to do today is. And every time one of you does this, it's $5. I need you to comment. Comment on the post. I need you to comment with the hashtag Ringling Circus. Hashtag Ringling Circus for you old people. The pound sign. Ringling Circus. One word.
D
Yeah. If you need any help, just let us know.
A
They're gonna donate $5 for every what we're calling a qualifying comment, which would be the hashtag, I need a thousand of you to play along. A thousand of you do that. Five bucks a hashtag. $5,000. We put that to go buying backpacks full of school supplies to help some local kids that really need it. Okay, I have 173mo. I told you I need 250 an hour. I'm behind. I'm behind. Okay, my ask today of you, you're like, God, this guy's always asking me something. I'm asking you to take about five seconds out of your day. And some of you are like, ah, Facebook. You have one. She had to remember the password.
D
Yeah, it's worth it.
A
She hadn't been on Facebook in a while. Because you're so. Because you're so cool on Tick Tock all the time. My guess is. My guess is you still have a Facebook page.
D
Yeah, Go just it.
A
All that could get us $5. You're like, well, Rod doesn't need me. I need every one of you.
D
Yeah, we're behind.
A
We're way behind. I told the circus folks that I could get a thousand of you to do this today. Okay? Right now you're making me look bad.
D
Ouch.
A
That hurts. We're going to get there. We're going to get there. All right? So that's. That's the what I. That's what I'm asking of you today. I know you guys are busy. You're packing lunches, you're getting ready, you're off to work. Many of you are in the car. We'll see a big spike when people get to work, when you can sit down and grab your phone and kind of quickly do this this morning. Just don't forget about us, though, okay? Try to get this done by 10 o'. Clock. All right. Okay, enough. We're gonna take a short break. When we come back, we got a rec check for you. We'll find out what's trending and we'll get you in. While we're at it, we should probably throw a Candle Box song into Throwback Thursday, too. Something that we haven't heard in a while. You know, not. Don't go far behind. Okay. Like, you would be good. Okay, Wizard, I'll just send you a list. We'll give away Candlebox Sponge tickets on the flip. Houston's rock. Houston's alternative and the Rod Ryan morning show. The Buzz 94. Five the Buzz. Good morning. Rod Ryan show. Yeah, we got some great tickets coming your way. Sit tight for that one hour from now. Out the suburb summer Sizzler Atasca Ceda takes on Baytown. Rod, why'd you name it that?
D
I've asked for myself that many times
A
because it's gonna be 101 degrees.
D
So suburb summer Sizzler.
A
And I know when we play this it's gonna be hot. So yeah, that's plus the alliteration of the S's.
D
I love it.
A
Yeah. So highs today of 101. Extreme heat. Heat warning. We could have called it the suburb summer extreme heat warning. It just doesn't sound as cool as the Sizzler. So we're gonna sizzle about an hour from now. Need to be sizzling outside at 5 today. 101. Alex, what's trending?
B
Tim Tebow's trending. While ESPN is laying off a lot of employees this week, they have given Tim Tebow a multi year contract extension to continue covering college football.
A
Is he maybe the greatest human being on the planet? I'm telling you, I cannot find anything wrong with this guy.
B
He would have come out by now.
A
Wasn't the greatest pro quarterback. Okay, that's it. He just wasn't. Is he maybe the greatest college football player of all time? Maybe, maybe. I love this man. I love all the work he does, the charity work he does, everything he does. I'm like God, how you do? Like God has favorites, raises a lot
B
of money and helps kids out a lot too.
A
Non stop.
B
Just like the Rod Ryan show cares Stair does too. Which by the way, Ringling Circus is trending.
A
That's fantastic.
B
Head over to our Facebook page and help us out today. And then Other mommy is trending. The trailer for Jessica Chastain's new horror movie is playing before the Odyssey in theaters and it's got a jump scare in the trailer and people are mad about.
A
Yeah, you shouldn't be able to play. Which some people bring up good points
B
like should you be able to play a a horror movie jump scare in a non horror movie preview? Like I'm fine. I wouldn't come here to be scared.
D
I'm fine.
A
Here to watch the Odyssey with a horror movie trailer playing before the movie that I go see? I don't think you should be allowed a jump scare. I don't.
B
Yeah. So people are upset about that. Other Mommy is the name of that. So that is what's Trinity and I for five.
A
The buzz yeah, that's. You shouldn't be allowed to do that. Okay, tickets.
B
Mo.
D
Candle box sponge. October 8th, White Oak Musical. Yes. You've been really jacked up about this. We haven't even really talked about it.
A
I. We hadn't talked about it.
D
It just, like, showed up.
A
But the other thing I wanted to mention is I interviewed Chris Martin. Kevin Martin. Sorry. When he came around about a year and a half ago and said that Kettlebox was no longer touring. And then, mark my words. And I even said to him, like, dude, your voice is awesome. I go, what do you mean you're done? He looks great. He sounds great. He's in amazing shape. I said, what are you doing? He's like, I spent some time with the family. Blah, blah, blah.
D
So you're telling me you changed his mind?
A
No, I just told him that he was crazy. And then Gavin Rossdale called him. Hey, I want you to go on tour with me. He's like, okay, I had enough of this kid. I had enough of this Projects around the house. This honeydew list is making me nuts. I'd rather be on the road with Bush so that he did that tour, and now he's doing this tour with Sponge. Nobody is retiring, guys, and I'm glad. This one I'm really happy about.
C
Okay.
A
If you want to go. October 8th, White Oak Music Hall. Great place for a show. Caller 10. 713-212-5945. And I'm working on getting some music in there for tomorrow's throwback. Summer's here. The Rod Ryan Show. Morning.
D
94.
A
5 the Buzz. 94. 5 the Buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan Show. Good morning. Boy, that really made me happy. Alex, when you mentioned in trending that the hashtag. And it is. Sorry, it is trending. Hashtag, Ringling Circus. There was a. Whatever I said. Just go get the recording of what I said and I'll play it back. I must have said it just the right way.
B
It worked.
A
A lot of people went over to our Facebook page, so thank you for that. I'll try. I'll try to say what I said the same way. We got about 300 of you now. 300 of you at $5. A hashtag. 3 times 5 is 15. We have $1,500 that we've raised this morning just for you guys. Dropping a hashtag on our Facebook page today. The hashtag is Ringling Circus. No spaces. And help us get some backpacks full of school supplies for the kiddos. If we can get a thousand of you excited about that on our Facebook page, then we're can get $5,000. So it's no money out of your pocket today. Unless you wanted to go buy this shirt that I'm wearing today or the. We already talked about our water bottle today too, so.
D
Yeah, got that right.
A
Yeah. We're always kind of like, kind of needling you a little bit about the store. The Rob Ryan show cares online store. It's only open for a couple more weeks. That's freaking me out.
D
That is scary.
A
We're.
B
We're deadline.
A
We're distributing backpacks on August 1st. Do I have enough money for these backpacks? Laura Ward is just gonna kill me. Okay.
D
Like, Laura Ward come in the studio.
A
She is gonna just flat out punch me in the face. I don't have enough money for the backpacks.
D
Let's get after it.
A
She's like, how we doing on the backpacks? Oh, we're fine. We're fine. I'm freaking. I'm freaking. So my ask today is always do something. Oh, and the minimal thing that you could do today was post on our Facebook page.
D
That's so easy.
A
Who's calling us? Hello?
B
Hello?
A
Yeah, you on the phone. Hi. What's your name? Yeah, hi. Hi. What's your name? Good morning. My name is Jay. Jay, Your caller number 10. Thank you.
B
Dude. Oh, dude.
A
Thanks for hanging out with us, man. Thank you so much. Then picking up the phone and calling.
B
That's huge.
A
What are you giving them, Jay?
D
Candle box is going to be at White Oak Music hall on October 8th with Sponge. And you're going to be there.
A
I love both these bands, and I've only seen Sponge once, and I'm so excited. And it's going to be my birthday present to my brother Joey.
B
If you're listening, we're going, bro.
D
Happy birthday, Joey.
A
Jay is old.
D
Shut up.
A
And in what. What 90s giveaway, brother Rod? In what 90s club did you see the band Sponge? It was actually at. I think it was in Deep Ellum. No, around Deep Ellum in Dallas with three doors down and Cedar. They were opening act. Great show. That's a great show. This is the song I'm trying to. I'm pushing to get played for throw. I'm trying to get him in Throwback Thursday tomorrow. Jason, that's awesome. I haven't seen Sponge in forever, so I'm like you. I'm excited.
B
Are you.
A
Are you going? Yeah, I'm gonna be at this show for sure. Because you never know when.
B
Check it out.
A
I'd like to Meet you, man. You guys are awesome.
C
Great show.
A
I listen every morning. I'm out in the heat running skid
B
steers all day, and you guys are kind of my.
A
My company during the day.
B
It's just me and machinery.
A
Do me a favor, Just seek me out, please come and say hi, Jay. All right, I'll be.
B
I will do it.
A
All right, brother. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you, dude. Oh, such a good one. Now, before Alex starts throwing around one hit wonders, they had this. The song is called Molly. Is it the drug or is it Molly Ringwald? Because they mentioned 16 candles in the song. Two Hit Wonder. The Two hit Wonder. But I like their other stuff. All right, guys, what else today? Jay was cool, huh?
D
I liked him. Jay and Joey sound like trouble and I can't wait for you to be there with them.
A
I've got a lot of stuff for you online. You know what? I. Man, I never talk about this Looking at girls blog page. It's got. It's always has that and the food blog page take the longest to curate because there's always like 10, 15 different stories on there. I know. Nobody scrolls past the first three. Rosie O' Donnell spent $90,000 on a facelift.
D
Yes.
A
Like, she just was cool about telling everybody how much she spent.
D
She wanted to be honest and she wanted to be transparent. She was embarrassed about going in to do it. So then that was her way of, like, coping.
B
All right.
D
Yeah, unfortunately, I read too much about it.
A
She should have worked on giving getting the corners of her mouth to go up when she smiles. She's got the weirdest smile I've ever seen in my life.
D
Unique.
A
I only know one other person like that, that when they smile, they look like they're frowning. Oh, it's a weird thing. She cannot get the corners of the lips up. Zendaya Lizzo. Lizzo, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. This is all on the Looking at Girls blog page. And then you're like, well, Rob, I can get that stuff anywhere.
B
Can you?
A
Because on the Looking at Girls blog page, three women's world records have been been set at a lumberjack world championship competition held in Wisconsin. There's nothing I don't look at to put on blog pages.
D
It's something for everybody.
A
It's looking at girls. It's a great women's accomplishment. It's an unbelievable accomplishment. That's on there. Then there's this little goofball that's on there too. It's not always just celebrities, but here's me not making fun of Gen Z. But this girl, Gen Z getting just roasted online now. Listen, she's young, but she's like, you know what? I just want to marry rich. I don't want to work.
D
That is groundbreaking. You know, that's what I was named in high school. Most likely to marry for money.
A
Really?
B
Yes.
A
How'd you do?
D
Not well.
B
Come on.
D
Here I am.
A
I hear about this swimming pool. Your swimming pool. That's all people have to hear. Oh, you got a pool, you're rich.
B
Not true.
A
You probably got a, like above ground basketball. You got a backboard. That's clear. Because that was rich people stuff. When I was a kid.
D
I remember that.
A
When I was a child, it was
D
air hockey for me.
A
Oh, if you had a finished basement.
D
Yeah. And that was in your basement. Pool table.
A
If you had a pool table.
D
Dream life.
A
If you had a pool table, you were rich. If you had more than one car, you were rich. Okay, none of these things were in my house. I told you. The clear backboard has made people giggle before because you wouldn't think about it. But we didn't even have a store bought backboard. My dad made it and he didn't even make it to look exactly like a backboard to kind of like fool everybody that we bought it from. You know, the store. He made it and it had like, it was bigger than it should have been. And I'm just like, dad, can you make it look like you bought it? It not made it. Like he bought the.
D
Wait, that he made it.
A
Yeah, like he went to whatever the Home Depot was back then and he bought some brackets to put it on the garage roof. But he made our backboard.
D
That's really precious.
A
And he probably saved a lot. You know, he bought the rim and the. And there's probably a kit. The brackets in the rim. If you had a clear backboard. And don't even get me started about. There was no standalone weighted bottom where you could adjust the height. Some of you kids that grew up. Duncan. Yeah, there was none of that. That just didn't exist. But yeah, it was swimming pools, clear backboards, two cars. If you had a two story house, I just assumed you were rich. If you had a second floor. Are you kidding me? What does your dad do? The second story. What? Two stories and a basement. Holy cow.
D
Yeah. Next level.
A
What company does your dad own?
D
Marrying rich.
A
Yeah, so. Oh, back to this goofball. She's yelling, but I don't want to work.
D
I want to marry a rich guy for life strategy.
A
What is Alex will Know this. What is the podcast that I always see coming up in my feed in little clips, and it's girls call her Daddy. No, it's a guy with a beard and he's got all the hot girls
B
in the room, like, whatever. Or.
A
Yes.
B
Yeah. So. And it's always just. They have the most insane takes.
A
Okay? So the girls will sit there and they'll say, okay, here's what I want. I want somebody that's six foot tall, I want them to make half a million dollars a year, and then blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Well, these guys, they actually have the stats because they kind of COVID the same stuff all the time. And I do get stuck in these 30, 60 second clips. And this guy will look at her, he's like, well, what are you. What do you bring to the table? He goes, well, look at me. Look at me. He's like, well, do you have any of that? Do you have any money of your own? Do you have a career? He's like, what do you think you are? And she's like, well, I'm a 10. He's like, you're a 4. And you want 0.00% of the population out there. Like, they have the numbers of who's 6ft tall, who makes half a million dollars.
D
Holy crap.
A
It's like to find that, it's like you're. You'd be. It'd be easier to find a unicorn. Yeah. And it's the same show. It's like Dave Ramsey, he tells you how to get rich.
B
I feel like so much of it has to be scripted because some of the takes are just like. I don't know about that.
A
Yeah, well, this again on the Looking at Girls blog page. This is an example of that. She's super, super young, but I've read it. Alex's favorite. They're roasting. They are roasting this galaxy. So it's not just about the celebs.
D
There's something for everyone.
A
It's about the lumberjack world records that went down. These three amazing women. Okay, I'm written by women. That's all. It's all on the Looking at Girls blog page.
B
Houston's rockin alternative.
D
The Rod ryan Morning Show. 6 to 10am 94. 5 the buzz.
A
94. 5 the buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan show. Thank you, guys, guys, for all the love and the support and the getting involved. I saw somebody use that term. I kind of. I do love that. Get involved. I say it all the time. Rod Ryan show Facebook page at Rodryan Show. I guess is where you'd find us. 383 of you have taken the time to drop a hashtag on our Facebook page. The hashtag we're looking for is hashtag Ringling Circus. 384 times 5. I'm not gonna make anybody do that.
D
Thank you.
A
But that's how much money we've raised so far. I get $5 for every time you guys drop a hashtag underneath that picture. Okay, there it is. The circus is coming. The greatest show on earth. It's been 10 years since the circus has been here in Houston Energy Stadium, Aug. 6 through the 9th. But there's some dates that have multiple shows on the day. So I think in those days there's about 10 different shows. But yeah, we're doing. We're doing great things. A little behind about 100 behind where I should be right now. I want to get a thousand of these done before 10 o'. Clock. So if you haven't had a second to do it yet, here's my, my little nudge to get over to your Facebook pages. Some of you have more than one. Drop a hashtag on there for me and that'll help us out. Five bucks for every hashtag, which will take you about 10 seconds to do. Mostly sunny today. High 101. I don't know why I looked over at the screen. One of the weather people were on television. There's a bunch of hundos next week.
D
Yeah, like in the 10 day forecast,
A
there's a bunch of them. It's like, like was more than not like a bunch of.
D
We were just touting. Oh, we're going to get to the first 100 degree day.
A
Yay.
B
Now it's just skipping 100.
A
Going right to 101 today.
D
Yes, go ahead. Possible feels like 115. Rod. We're calling it extreme heat warning. Dry air pulling in with that tropical storm Bertha. She's still churning. Yes. Obviously a headline. Official landfall could happen later this morning in Louisiana. A push of rain will hit us here in the Houston area. That begins this evening. So like before, between 4 and 6pm potentially fast, intense, lasting over the next couple of days. So just stay on top of it, all right?
A
Okay.
D
A federal judge has ordered that the U.S. department of Homeland Security halt the deportation of a witness in the deadly shooting by ICE agents in Houston. That has now been two weeks ago. So yesterday the judge issued the ruling for one of the passengers in the van at the time of the shooting.
A
Yeah, you would need that person. Person here to. To talk about an Eyewitness account and this guy specifically.
D
Been here since 98. No criminal record. Common law. Married to a U.S. citizen, has three kids, four step kids who are all citizens. Wow. Mayor Whitmire and our HPD chief have asked the Texas Rangers for an independent investigation.
A
Yeah, if that person was a witness, you got to have them around.
D
Seems like it makes sense. Paying cash but not having pennies is kind of causing some problems. Remember, we stopped making pennies. The government shut that down. It was costing way more than a penny to make a penny.
A
So we. That's a done deal, right? It stopped.
D
Yeah, they stopped.
A
Okay.
D
Long time ago. And you go somewhere, and if you want to pay with cash, there's usually, like, a little sign that says, like, we round up. You know, pennies don't exist. You know, stuff like that.
A
I didn't know that. I guess I didn't notice that you
D
probably don't pay with cash a whole lot anymore. Right? That's pretty good.
A
All right, Kramer.
D
Businesses have been rounding to the nearest nickel when giving change, but that's turning out. It's not working everywhere. So there's this new bill in Congress called the Common Sense Act. Get it? They're hoping to relieve some of those problems by changing the way the nickel is made.
B
We just pretended the nickel was $0.01. From now on, I don't.
D
I don't mathematically know how this works out.
B
We just. We just move all the coins.
D
Nickels cost more than a penny costs to produce.
A
So what about dimes?
B
Dimes should be $0.01 because they're super little. Our.
A
Our kids.
B
Yeah.
A
Never ever gonna come in contact with change when they're older.
B
Oh, mine will.
D
Mine have piggy banks now.
A
Yeah.
D
But when they asked me for, like, a quarter for, like, a machine, I'm like, I don't have one of those.
A
You know, when I needed a coin,
B
I had a bag in my car full of change.
A
I was back home. We were on. We were by some train tracks. Kids, don't do this. But I was. I'm like, oh, my God, this is what I'd love to show my kid.
B
Yeah. On the tracks.
A
Did you guys ever put coins on the track and the train would flatten out for sure?
B
Remember George Bush's funeral was there, and people were. Yeah, they had him on the train, and people wanted those train pennies, so.
A
So there was a trolley coming. I had plenty of time. Don't do this to anybody. Nobody do this. I'm a professional, and I asked my sister because I knew I didn't have any change. My kids ain't got nothing. But I wanted to show my kid. This is, this is like a core memory what I had when I was a kid. Terrible thing to show your child. And nobody had any change. I was like, damn. It would have been the perfect thing because it wasn't even a long train. It was just like a trolley type thing and it wasn't fast. I wanted to flatten a coin for my kids. Sure. How cool I used to be so cool. And nobody had any change.
D
That's funny.
A
Damn it.
D
We know the Odyssey continues to break records in theaters. Well, now it's also breaking records in audiobook sales. Okay, well, I guess people are either seeing the movie and then wanting to read the book or wanting to read the book before they see the movie. Because Spotify says it's on track to be up 680%, which isn't a lot
A
if zero people were reading it last week.
D
Okay.
A
That's my perspective.
D
It just seems like a ton. They're saying a lot of men and Gen Zers are the ones that are getting behind this.
B
Any movie that has any sort of book that's gone with it whenever that movie's out. What was the Ryan Gosling space movie?
A
Oh, where the teacher went into space.
B
That was like that. The book that that was based off was like on the audiobooks thing. That was like the number one thing for weeks and weeks and weeks when that was out.
A
You do audiobooks?
B
I've been trying to be an audiobook guy this year. I'm not, I don't have the time to sit down and read, but I'll listen to it when I'm going to pick up the kids and stuff.
A
Really? When do you do like an audiobook? Like, what's the time part of your day?
B
Like when I go pick up my kids. Like, it's about 30 minute ride out there, 30 minute ride back. And then that's what I'll kind of listen to that sometimes when I'm walking the dog. If podcasts and stuff.
A
Okay. I like that.
B
It's just like an endless podcast. I mean, it is ending, but it's like a nine hour podcast that you just like, I'm gonna take six weeks to get through this.
D
Do you feel like you have to, like, go back to remember where sometimes
B
I'll like, restart a chapter? Yeah, but like, not usually. Like, I, I, I've got a pretty good recollection. As long as I don't take like two weeks off, I'm good.
A
That's One thing I've never done is an audiobook either.
B
I try listen to podcasts. It's kind of the exact same thing, except the story just keeps going.
A
And I'm assuming now it's digitally sent to your phone somewhere.
B
Where does it live on my phone?
D
There's an app.
B
Podcast.
D
Right.
B
Yeah, Audiobooks app.
D
Oh, audiobooks.
A
Gotcha.
D
Okay.
B
If I heart had an Audiobooks app, I would obviously use that, naturally.
A
Maybe you should talk to me after the show because I don't know what you're talking about. Yeah, I'm done questioning you, like nine books questions.
D
And speaking of things coming around. Oh, Oasis. Wonderwall is back on the charts. Why the World Cup?
A
Yeah, it got a lot of airplay.
D
Did you see it live when it was happening?
A
Yeah. The England, when they won, they would only play this. The team that won, they would play their song right in the stadium.
B
Yeah.
A
So it went.
B
And they had a couple of songs. They would play for a lot. A couple of teams like they did hey Jude and Wonderwall for. For England.
A
But when the US lost, they did not play Take Me Home Country Road.
B
Right.
A
It was only for wins.
D
I don't know, man.
B
I was crushing beers at that point.
D
I think it's interesting because they did that whole reunion tour and that didn't bring any of their singles back to the Billboard top 100.
A
Oh, interesting.
D
Yeah.
A
But it took the World cup. Did the plays in the stadiums at the World cup got it back in the charts.
D
Isn't that weird?
A
Yeah.
D
I don't know what that means.
B
Wonderwall just seems like it would always be up at the top of the charts.
D
Yeah, everyone knows it. Those are Houston's headlines.
B
Take it, Alex. Astros got another win last night. They beat the Marlins 5 to 3. Jeremy Pena and Isak Paredes both homered in the game. They're gonna wrap up their series with the Marlins tonight. Peter Lambert's gonna be on the mound for the Strozz. He'll be going up against Miami's Sandy Alcantara. First pitches at 7:10. You can listen to the game on our sister Station Sports Talk 790. In soccer, Houston Dyno FC returned to the pitch tonight. They're gonna hope host D.C. united at Shell Energy Stadium. That's gonna kick off at 7:30 and you can watch that one on Apple TV. That is what's going on in sports.
A
Okay, here we go. Coming up on the halfway point. Hey, do that Facebook thing, please, everybody. Here's your reminder. Nudge, nudge. Drop the hashtag. Help us out with backpacks, Suburb, Summer Sizzler coming up. Atasca, Ceda, Baytown Town. Can't wait. Love the Sizzler.

5 the buzz. Halfway point of the show, people. Here we are at the halfway point. Come on. Thank you for hanging out with us today. It's an interesting Wednesday to Wild Card Wednesday. Chili's. Like, dude, I'm not gonna tell you what he said to me. I'm just gonna say he used some choice words and. And he said that he's the one that's doing his job and I must be the other guy. He said the wild card Wednesday. Today for our Instagram feature, it's this contortionist, which I am oddly scar about how these people can bend their bodies.
D
Scar?
A
Yeah. Okay. Scared, aroused.
D
Okay. Combination aroused, your favorite.
A
It's a little collab with the two words. This contortionist that works with the circus.
D
Oh, no way.
A
I think she's coming to town. I think she's a part of the show.
D
Go. Come on, girl.
A
She's on. She's the Instagram feature today. Like, God made her differently than me. I can tell you that when I am the least flexible person on the planet, like, my flexibility is terrible. Okay, well, Rod, here, why don't you come to a yoga with me one of these days? One of these days. And I need to. I need to do it. But the way that this woman can move her body. It freaks me out when people can just like, fold themselves in half and they could wrap their leg around their head and they can get in a box that you can mail out in Amazon. Their whole body's in there. It's insane. That's our Instagram feature today.
D
Okay.
A
And she's a part of the circus. She's a part of what we've been talking about. We've been having a. Isn't it insane? It's like, how. How did. How do you have the same parts as me?
D
She is missing some. How do you have parts?
A
No, she makes her arm disappear. She's got all her limbs. You're thinking that she's missing an arm?
D
No, I'm thinking she's missing, like, ligaments. Yes. Things I have.
A
She just has, like, hinges.
D
Yeah.
A
Or something. She's a part of the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. Greatest show on earth. 469 guys. We're almost where we need to be. Hey.
B
Hey.
A
This is good. I need you to drop a hashtag. Hashtag Ringling Circus on our Facebook page. We're at 470 when they're pouring in right now. I didn't know we had somebody listening named Jerry Garcia. Why have you not called us?
D
Hey, Jerry.
A
Jerry Garcia listens to this show. Thank you.
D
Cool.
A
That's really cool. Hey, Jerry.
B
Love your ice cream.
A
Kyle Williams. Isn't there a famous Kyle Williams?
B
Yeah, he fumbled in the NFC championship game in 2012 against the Giants twice. He had two punt fumbles.
A
Kyle Williams listens to us.
B
Giants went to the super bowl and ended up winning.
A
At least is on our Facebook page. Playing along. Brienne, Corey, Courtney, Jennifer. I mean, you know, there's over. There's almost 500 of you. I can't call out everybody, but thank you. What they're doing is dropping the hashtag on our Facebook page. Every hashtag is $5. If I can get a thousand of you to drop that hashtag Today, I'll get $5,000 to go buy backpacks full of school supplies. Before I start talking about the Sizzler. Alex, something that you mentioned. Our friend win. He went to. He goes to Old Town Spring. He takes his dog there for walks and plays in the park. He was there when George H.W. bush was going by in the train.
B
Yeah.
A
He laid some 50 cent pieces on the track.
B
I remember he sent us pictures. Got him.
A
He laid.
C
So we.
A
We had a little. Just a quick little discussion. I was telling kids, don't do this. Don't Don't. I'm not a hero. You don't want to do things that I did growing up. I don't want my kid to do this. And then, of course, I wanted to do this in front of my kid, but there was a train coming by, and I was looking for some coins because I wanted to flatten them. And I figure, okay, do it in front of me, and then don't do this when you're not around. We had train tracks growing up near my house. Yeah, we did this all the time. The one thing, there were rules growing up when I was a kid. Am I telling a kid story? Yeah. All right. So we had train tracks behind the house. My dad. My dad's like, do not go near those tracks when we're really little kids because we're playing in the woods. It wasn't like it is now. We're in the fields.
D
We're.
A
We're away from the parents.
D
Right.
B
Don't stand by me.
A
At a pretty young age. Absolutely. Like, stand by me. And of course, when you're with bigger kids, they're the ones that give you these stupid ideas. My mom's like, do not go near the tracks. My dad, do not go near the tracks. I'm like, okay, that's the rule. But they're letting me play in the fields in the woods all the time. Okay. The day that my parents found a bunch of smooshed coins in my bedroom, they knew exactly where I was hanging out.
D
Of course they did. Did you get in trouble?
B
No.
A
Dennis Krieger gave me those. Dennis gave me those. Dennis gave me those.
D
Right, Dennis?
A
He did not.
D
Oh, you did it.
A
I smushed those coins on the train tracks.
D
So you got in trouble.
A
I got busted. Yeah.
B
Yeah. Didn't believe that at all.
A
Yeah. The two core memories. Getting busted with the smushed coins from the trains because I was. I was forbidden from going near the tracks. And then the day you get busted with Playboy, those are the two big moments. Those are the two moments really shaped who you are, where you absolutely have disappointed your parents more than you ever will. It's like, how could you now? My dad was, like, cool with the Playboy. My mom was.
D
Wasn't.
B
Yeah.
A
My dad was like, you know, he's a boy. Let him be a boy. But I mean, like, every kid, I put it between the mattress. Like, you gotta find a better hiding spot, young dudes. I don't know if there's still magazines out there. Do not put it between your mattress. First place. Or get rid of your History, you know, I guess all you gotta do is just kill your history now, but.
B
Yeah.
A
Where did I have a magazine between the mattress. No one's gonna find it here. Everybody knows in the history of Playboys, every young kid put it between the mattresses.
D
Right next to the foolproof
A
Wins Got coins that were smushed by the presidential train going by. That's cool story, Wynn. Thank you for sharing today. What are we doing this hour? Should we just pack it in or should we do this?
B
I thought you were about to jump around house.
A
No, that's Friday, buddy. What are you doing it?
D
Oh, Howard Stern.
A
I was talking about going home.
B
Yeah, I know I was. What's happening?
A
We only do five days, but two hours a day for this Howard Stern, one day a week. Live shows. Signed a three year contract.
B
A very lucrative three year kind of. Yeah.
A
Lots of money. Lots of money. Here we go. I'm not going anywhere. We're going to play the suffering suburb Summer Sizzler. Brought to us by Shell Federal Credit Union, Atasca, Ceta. Daniel. Welcome in, Stacy. Baytown. Nobody's counting. I am first chick in the tournament this year.
B
Is it a chick?
D
Are you sure?
A
Oh, yeah. Stacy could go either way.
B
I've known a couple dudes. Stacy.
A
Sorry to be so binary.
B
Shout out.
A
Stacy, Whit, Stacy and Daniel, whatever you identify as. I can't wait to have you on the show today. Okay, we're all inclusive here. That's who's gonna. That's who. Chile is working on lining up right now. They're gonna play the suburb Summer Sizzler. One of them will advance, one of them will blow it for their whole suburb. Okay, that means nobody else from those suburbs. Yeah, nobody else from those suburbs can play. Thank you, Shell Federal Credit Union. Can't wait to play the game after this.
B
Rock and alternative for Houston.
D
The Rod ryan Morning Show. 6 to 10am, the buzz 94.
A
5 the buzz. Good morning, Rob Ryan show. It freaks me out a little bit. And we did. We're doing the Sizzler right now. After you're done, right?
B
Oh, yeah.
A
Like working normally. We put on a song.
B
We're.
A
We're teasing people. We're like, okay. And now after the song, we're gonna play the game. We go into the game right now. We're. It's game time. I gotta get my game face on. My game face is on. I'm ready to go. We're gonna say sizzle in just a moment. Mostly sunny today. Extreme heat warning is what's happening. Why? Because the True temperature. We're gonna hit 101 today is what what's expected. It's gonna feel way over that. So dangerously hot outside. I know you guys are all experts. Just be careful if you're outside. And the dogs, it's hot for their paws and the cats, all of that. What's trending?
B
All right, well, we got Ozzy Oswald weren't trending. Why people are remembering the Prince of Darkness on the one year anniversary of his passing.
A
Oh, I didn't know that.
B
I didn't realize it had been a year. It felt like it had been a couple of months.
A
Wow. It's been a year.
B
July 22, 2020.
A
That's crazy.
B
Tropical storm Bertha. People still talking about that? I think it was in Gulf Shores last night.
A
It's scheduled to kind of be right around the New Orleans area today.
B
So Tropical storm birth is trending and then, then the Miami Heat are trending. Last night they temporarily posted and then removed a link for what was titled LeBron James Introductory Press Conference.
A
Oh, boy. Somebody.
B
July 27th.
A
Is he going back to Miami?
B
I mean he is currently trying to choose a new team. The rumors are maybe Cleveland, maybe Golden State. Miami had just got Giannis Atentokounmpo. Maybe you run it back in Miami. July 27th is later this week. If you accidentally scheduled, you know, sometimes you're scheduled and you hit the wrong date, it goes out early. Oh, no. Everybody was like, well, LeBron's definitely going to the Heat. So that might be where he's going.
A
If you're wondering how big. I don't think anybody's wondering how big LeBron is, but if there's one person I saw the commissioner of the NBA, they're waiting on LeBron to say where he's going to play before they put out the schedule.
B
Yeah. Because they have have to be like, all right, well LeBron's gonna play the Christmas Day game. Who's gonna open up? Because if he goes to Miami, is it going to be Miami against Cleveland where he started and then where he went after he left Cleveland? Is he gonna be Miami against the Lakers to open up the season? Like, what are we doing?
A
He is single handedly holding up the entire NBA schedule, final season from being released.
B
He's gonna be the biggest draw this year.
A
Yeah.
B
So he literally is taking the whole league hostage, basically. But Miami Heat training, the training on 90% of life.
A
So cool. Or what an asshole. Would you make a decision so we can fit the schedule? It's affecting the whole league.
B
All right.
A
We do this thing for about 30 some days every summer. It's called the Suburb Summer Sizzler. You could represent your BB and maybe win the grand prize of $5,000. Okay. All greater Houston areas are eligible. All you got to do is sign up to represent your suburb on the world famous Rod Ryan show blog page at the Bunny. So what we do is we bring on two people that represent their suburb. Once somebody plays for that suburb, no one else can get in. So a Tasita sent me Daniel, and they said this is the best we have to offer in Atasca. You're the best, Daniel, right? Yes, sir. Aasita Cook by the best. A task. AA couldn't have sent me anybody better than you at the Suburb Summer Sizzler at the game we play. Okay, I don't think so. We're about to find out. We're about to find out.
B
We are, buddy.
A
Smart mouth.
B
Thank you.
A
Thank you for signing up.
B
I signed up and he yelled, play.
A
Daniel, how you feeling today? Did you practice at all? How do you get ready for this game? I just do it. You just do it? Yeah. He's like, listen, I listen to the buzz. I know these songs.
D
Mess with him.
A
Let's bring on Stacy. Stacy, good morning. Good morning. Well, hello, Stacy. Nobody else. Nobody else from Baytown can play now. You're repping. You're repping Baytown. I am repping Baytown every day. Okay, so these are songs. Stay down. You and Chili came to work today, Stacy. Did you practice?
B
Yeah.
A
You just know all these songs.
D
Did you practice?
A
You practiced?
D
I listen.
A
I listen to 94.
B
5 every day.
A
Yes, but I also wrote down songs and artists that I may have not known. Good for you. Good for you. A little bit of practice. Practice has helped people. Some people that haven't practiced have won. I don't know what the. I don't know what the code is, but. But Daniel from Atasca, Stacy from Baytown. Alex is going to play you a clip of a song. That song is a popular song that's played all the time. This is all I'm told when I hear these songs. When you hear them? I'm hearing them for the first time as well.
C
Oh.
A
So I. I'm. I'm playing along with you?
B
Yeah, we are.
A
Alex is the only guy, if you ever wanted to, like, meet him after the show. He knows what's coming up.
B
I'll tell you. That's it.
A
When you hear the song, guys shout out your name. Wait for me to call on you and tell me the song title. And the band. And then you will advance. If you get it wrong, the other person advances for doing nothing.
D
Yeah.
A
Let's just leave it at that.
B
Leave it at that.
A
Yep. Daniel, you ready? Yes, sir. Stacy, are you ready?
B
Yes.
A
Here we go. I'm playing with you guys. I'm not going to yell out my name, though. I'm listening for Daniel. I'm listening for Stacy. Remember, song title and band. Good luck to both of you. One step closer to $5,000. Here's your song.
D
Danny. Daniel.
A
Daniel. Kryptonite.
B
That is correct.
D
The way I look at Alex, like, is it right? Is that right? Is that it?
A
Did you do it right? And I don't know if he was, like, trying to dramatically pause because I
B
have my list, and I was making
A
sure it was the right day, and
B
I was like, it's done as a song. Yes.
A
I've been.
B
It's for money. I don't want to ruin. I don't want to ruin anything.
A
I've been playing that song for 25 years, and I didn't want to say you won until Alex did. Stacy. Unfortunately, he got in before you, and he was right. Stacy, you're gone. You're. You're gone.
B
I thought you were supposed to call on me.
D
I'm sorry.
A
Well, yeah, I. I call on the person that says their name first. Yeah.
D
Oh, okay.
A
Okay. Did you think I was. Did you think I was calling out your name? I. I was. Well, I thought I had to wait for you to call my name.
B
I'm sorry.
A
Oh, yeah. Wow. Baytown, if you listen.
B
Day one or two. Oh, boy, oh, boy.
A
I wouldn't.
D
It was fun having you, Stacy. Thank you so much. Thank you.
A
Thank you.
D
All right.
A
I'd switch grocery stores, get you in
B
touch with a realtor.
A
Do not go to the. No, she.
D
She thought I repped Baytown every day. She said.
A
So I'm gonna play the song clip and then yell their name.
B
Like, what if you know Daniel's name first?
A
Daniel, you had a layup there today, bro. It's a good thing. Daniel, you won.
D
Thank you.
A
Daniel knew to yell out his name when he thought he knew.
D
That's the game, dude.
A
You're advancing in the brackets. You're one step closer to that $5,000 from Shell Federal Credit Union. Way to go, dude. Appreciate we got the right guy from ATAS Casita. Feels good. Baytown
D
Pleasure.
A
All right, you hang on. Daniel, you got brackets for tomorrow. I don't have them in front of me. Anybody got it? I do. Tomorrow's Thursday. I have a ton of paper in front of me. Aldine. Gabby from Aldine. Veronica from Pasadena.
D
Okay.
A
You shout out your name when you think you know the song title and the band. I will not yell out your name. I'll introduce you to the world, but you have to yell out your name. Like Daniel screamed it right about here. He was locked in that. This is Three Doors down and Kryptonite. Great job today. Daniel will sizzle Again tomorrow at 8. 20. Thank you. Show Federal Credit Union. 94. 5 the Buzz. 94. 5 the Buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan Show. Three doors down. Kryptonite. Anybody gonna think. Anybody gonna deny that being a super popular song on this radio station that's been played for years?
B
I think it's been pretty popular. Yeah.
A
And I think I'm. I'm pointing that out. Well, because we're. I'm trying to use songs that everybody knows. We're trying to use songs that everybody knows. And you guys are doing a great job. I know you're working with the wizard on these things. We just played the suburb Summer Sizzler. There was some confusion in Baytown. Stacy, I love you. Thank you. Number one. You know what? I bet you everybody that's commenting has not played the game. There was some confusion. She thought maybe I was going to yell out her name during the game. I shouldn't read these emails. I'm going to. Joel says, I was looking to buy a house in Baytown, but after listening to today's game, I'm gonna stay put where I'm at. Come on, you can't. You can't just start bagging on Baytown. You can. You did, but you can't. One of our Joshes says Rod. I'm counting at least four games that are played regularly on the Rod Ryan show, where due to no buzzers, you have the listeners yell out their name when they think they know the answer.
D
That was also my point.
A
You made that comment. Yell at your name. Okay. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. I love you, Stacey.
D
Love you.
A
Thank you. Tomorrow you're gonna yell out Gabby, Veronica. You're gonna yell out your name when you think you know the name of the band and the title of the song. We're gonna play again at day 20 that we march on. We move on each and every day. Atasca Ceda has moved on. And then people are bagging on Daniel thinking that he was slow. Come on, stop. He won the game. It's like, oh, he ain't gonna go far in the tournament.
B
Yeah.
A
Yet maybe he wins. The whole thing.
D
Who knows?
A
You don't know.
D
Be nice.
A
There was a guy that almost won the whole thing. It didn't say anything. The whole tournament last year.
D
Oh, that was last year.
A
He just let everybody say their name and get it wrong.
D
That's what he hung us after.
A
That was some weird Jeopardy
D
Strategy.
A
Hoss Halfler, whatever that guy's name was, that came up with some sort of strategy. Yeah, that guy didn't say anything last year. He moved far in the tournament. Thank you to our partners. We've had fun with them all week, man. Our friends at Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus is coming to town. The greatest show on Earth. On Earth. NRG Stadium, August 6th through the 9th. We're also over the halfway point of the show. I'd like to close this out at 10 o'. Clock. So my ask of you is if you could take about 10 seconds. Phone, computer, desktop, laptop. Get on your Facebook page. Page. Maybe it's been a while. Blow it off. Little dusty. Haven't been on Facebook in a while.
D
Today's the day.
A
That's cool. Mo's chased around her old password. I got it.
D
It was easy once I was in Hashtag.
A
She hadn't used that page in a while. And then she used the hashtag Ringling Circus. Five bucks. So I'm asking for about 10 seconds of your day today. To get on Facebook. Go to our page, drop a comment. The comment is, you want to put something extra in there? That's great. A lot of people mentioning the kids and thanking Ringling Brothers, all that stuff. But hashtag Ringling Circus, which we did get trending earlier today. I get five bucks for every one of those hashtags to go buy backpacks and school supplies. So that's my ask today, man. Hit us up on Facebook. I really appreciate everybody that's already done it. Radio is so good for you on 94.5 the buzz. Hey, everybody.

and I will not break. Good morning, Rod Ryan show. Appreciate you guys rolling with us. Guys, be careful. Extreme heat warning today. True temperatures, highs of 101. World cup number. Numbers are in across Fox, Telemundo and Peacock. They were all showing that final World cup game. 63 million viewers in the US watched the game. That's a new record. It kind of smashes the old record. I don't know what it was, but this is soccer viewership in the U.S. okay. You always hear about it's the biggest game in the world. They haven't even compiled because I, I'm kind of curious. I do have a curiosity of numbers and the world numbers are not in yet. But if you have something to compare
B
it to, we had the other biggest World cup. So it's probably.
A
No, but what I was going to say was American football, the super bowl, which they told us. It didn't hit me. I thought that guy really put it in good terms. When the FIFA guy was in town, he said, I know Houston. And I'm paraphrasing, phrasing. I know you guys have hosted a Super bowl before. You guys are getting like six or seven Super Bowls.
D
I remember him saying.
A
And I went, wow, okay, perspective. That put it in perspective for me. I needed to hear that. Whether that's true or not, I don't believe it. I don't believe it. 127.7 million people watched the last Super Bowl.
D
127.
A
These are just US numbers.
D
Okay?
A
So 63 million people watch the World cup final. Final. It's a huge number. It's a massive number. As a matter of fact, we talked about soccer now becoming the third most popular sport in America. What are the metrics they use for that? I don't know. It's by a mile. American football, basketball, most popular sport. Number two, soccer. Then America's pastime, then ice hockey, in that order. So soccer on the rise. Alex, you've been around. You've been getting into soccer for what, the last five years or so? Yeah, he picked it up out of nowhere.
B
I mean, well, when I started this job, my schedule, my body clock just kind of woke up earlier. Soccer was on in the morning. So I was like, I'm just gonna pick a team.
A
You woke up one day and said, I'm gonna be a soccer guy.
B
Well, I just was like, the Premier League's always on. Yeah, I'll just pick a team. But I don't want to be a Bandwagon fan. So I didn't pick. Pick, like Manchester City or Arsenal or the good teams. I picked a bad team.
A
Yeah.
B
And now we're not in that league anymore because we got kicked out.
A
The thing that is cool about it is these soccer people, because of the time difference, they get together, they're in bars at 8 in the morning.
B
That's my favorite thing about my West Ham group, dude. You're like, hey, I'll see you guys there at 9am There is something appealing
A
about heights and a shot if we.
B
If we win.
A
You'd think I'd grown out of it by now, but something sounds cool about Saturday morning drinking beers.
B
Not just going. You're like, I have to watch the
D
game and we're up anyway. So, yeah, and then we're done. We can take a nap.
A
All right, so soccer did very, very well here in the us The Buzz. Rock and alternative for Houston.
D
The Rod ryan Morning Show. 6 to 10am 94.
A
5, the buzz. Good morning Rod Ryan Show. Who is it? If Mike D's got some solo stuff out there, if you listen to any.
B
Any of that stuff, Alex, I think
A
I played a small little clip on the air. We're not playing it, playing it, to my knowledge. But not only did Mike D the first Beastie Boy to put out something solo, he's going out on tour. He's gonna tour with it. He's got a big. He's got a big whole thing going on. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he's not just. He's not just testing the waters like he's back in. He is full, fully back in. I guess just look up Mike D And go listen to it. I. It's interesting. I'm not shocked that we're not playing it on the radio. It's got a different vibe to it for sure. But, yeah, maybe there's someone out there that didn't know that Mike D. Was doing that. He's gonna tour. All right, extreme heat warning today, guys. I'll let Mo do her thing. What you got in Houston's headlines?
D
Extreme heat warning. Morning.
A
Yeah, she just did her thing. Yeah, that's her thing.
D
Dry air is pulling in with Tropical Storm Bertha. She's still churning. Official landfall. They're looking like Louisiana today, and a push of rain will hit us here in the Houston area. It looks like starting this evening between 4 and 6pm is what it's still saying. Potentially fast and intense rain lasting over the next couple days.
A
Just be around your phone between 4 and 6. When I get no rain, I'm texting your ass.
D
I dare you.
A
Okay. I'm like you just said on the
D
radio, not a meteorologist.
A
Okay.
D
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Said yesterday that that whole poop lettuce thing is under control. He said that. He said officials have done extensive testing, identified the source, and worked with the companies involved to implement a recall. But over the weekend, the fba, fda said, here's what's positive. Then they later called it a false positive. And Taylor Farms is like, yeah, they told us it was a mistake. So what is the source?
A
I don't know. They like saying things are fixed sometimes. Just. It's like, okay, lettuce is fine.
D
Okay, keep eating. Wash your vegetables. Water bottles apparently have some sort of stronghold over women. Over you, I think it's funny. I had no idea. It's me.
A
So the. The blog p. The blog page that we have up for you today, it lists all these different names. And Mo's going, oh, yeah, I had that one. And she's looking at the year. Yeah. Right around that time. Oh, yeah, look at this one. I had that one too. I didn't know that you could identify specific water bottles. If you ask me what a Stanley is, that became so mainstream.
D
I was right. Crazy.
A
And then it's now I got a kid that's asking for some things that, like, her friends have. So the Stanley was a thing that we got water one. And now there's an Odwala Owala oh walla, which is like water bottle mouth. And it's the water bottle that we're selling in the Rod Ryan Show Cares online store.
D
We have an Oala Type bottle.
A
But go through the other ones that you know them by name.
D
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
That's what's weird to me. It's like. It's like I didn't know that I
D
was a water bottle girl.
A
It's a Louis Vuitton. That's a coach. Yeah, that's a this, that's a that.
D
They do it with like blue jeans as well, though.
A
Okay.
D
You know like what, what's cool. What billboard I'm wearing across my shirt is what year it was. Those are before me.
A
Okay.
D
Yes.
A
So go ahead.
D
So with water bottles Now Gene, give me the year.
A
So could you.
D
It started from the 70s and went through the 2000s, but when I was in high school, the Now Gene bottle hanging on your back.
A
Okay.
D
Camelback is there from 2010 to 2016. The swell bottle. S apostrophe.
B
Well, I know what they are. I do not have those.
D
Hydro flask is on here.
A
These are happening on my watch.
D
And I'm just not the Yeti Rambler. Never.
A
But that's why you don't see me running around with a Rolex either. Like, I don't care what the things are that I have.
D
You got a Camelback still. I see that right now.
A
Okay.
D
Yeah, but that's the water bottle you're carrying besides your.
A
What year was. What year would I have been?
B
Cool.
D
2010.
A
I'm carrying the one from 16 years ago.
D
Stanley obviously had a couple years. And right now it's the Oalla.
B
So Stanley's just all the way out then, huh?
D
That's what it says. It ended in 2024.
A
But when we're walking around. What if I'm walking around with London, Whether it's the grocery store or just some store, if there's a. If there's a rack of water bottles, she goes over to it.
D
Yeah. And with the back to school sections, right now they have all the accessories that go with your water bottle bottles. So you have to have a keychain, you have to have a topper, you have to have a bottom thing that.
A
Water fountains are gone.
B
Like, do they get rid of water fountains?
A
Every kid's got a water bottle.
D
They don't know.
A
Every kid's got their own water bottle.
D
They don't know how to use a water fountain. They don't know where to put their mouth.
B
Well, we would take plastic water bottles of school maybe, but like, I never had my own.
A
Just like personal water. But like, I would run to a rack of records. She runs to a rack of water bottles and Wants to see them.
D
And then their identity throws it out.
B
Stanley.
A
Then she's like, it's in turquoise. Check this out, dad. Which is like asking me, can we have this? I'm like, put it down.
D
You got 20 stickers. Losing them. Everywhere your child goes, their water bottle goes.
B
Does she drink enough of the water? Does she just like, you can't.
D
Absolutely not.
A
No. She comes home with that thing full.
D
Exactly.
A
She tells, oh, I filled it up. No, you didn't fill it up for the ride home.
D
Yeah, the little girl from Godzilla and Kong movies died.
A
Yeah, I saw that. Sad.
D
She was a sweet little actress, deaf actress. And she was able to communicate with Kong in the movies through sign language. Well, that is also deaf in real life, as was the rest of her family. So her father announced her death in sign language on Facebook. Facebook? Oh, I don't even know sign language. And it broke my heart. Police say kaylee Hoddle. She's 18. She was a passenger in a Honda Accord. The driver, a 19 year old guy, was hot. Hospitalized. It seems like excessive speed was said to be the factor.
A
Sad.
D
Breaks my heart.
A
So young.
D
And now more than ever, people are coming to grips with the importance of taking care of their mental health. And I think we all agree there is an undeniable role that music plays with your mental health. Well, with that in mind, funk legend Bootsy Collins has teamed up with several of his very famous friends to create Mental Health, a guitar heavy rock album that gets your head right because you got good music on.
A
There's a couple of big names on there. Do you have them?
D
Yeah.
A
Robert Trujillo from Metallica. Billy Sheehan.
D
Yeah.
A
Okay, those are big famous bass players.
D
Eric Gales, I don't know, maybe they all get together and they're gonna do some sort of album release party. You can live stream the event on Saturday.
A
Lucy Collins, he played on this song here. The band is delight. The song is Groove is in the heart. I bought the C single back in the day. Okay, do you guys know what a cast single is?
D
Yeah, of course.
B
Just like a one single for a cassette.
D
Yes, one song on a cassette.
A
There was like one glorious year that you could buy those.
D
Figured it out.
A
They were at the checkout counter. Yeah, throw that in. I like that song. 3.99.
B
Wow.
D
Hey, those are Houston's headlines.
B
Take it, Alex. The Astros got an another win last night. They beat the Marlins 5 to 3. Jeremy Pena and Isak Paredes both homered in the game. They're gonna wrap up their series with the Marlins Tonight Peter Lambert is gonna be on the mound for the straws, going up against Miami's Sandy Alcantara. First pitches at 7:10. You can listen to it on our sister Station Sports Talk 790. In soccer, Houston Dynamo FC returned to the pitch tonight. They're gonna host D.C. united at Shell Energy Stadium. That's gonna kick off at 7:30 and you can watch that game on Apple TV. That is what's going on in sports.
A
Cost in 1990. Sorry, googling. How much did a Casingo cost?
D
I'm curious.
A
In 1990? Between 199 and 349.
B
But you said.
A
I said 3.99. So yeah, with tax I was right.
B
Houston's rock, Houston's alternative all day and
A
the Rod ryan Morning Show.
B
94.
D
5 the Buzz.
A
Here we go. 94. 5 the Buzz. Lincoln park and what I've done. Good morning Rod Ryan Show. Wild card Wednesday. It is a gal featured today that does work with our friends in the circus. And I think she's going to be part of the show. The greatest show on earth coming back to Houston after 10 years. She's a contortionist. You looked at some of the things it looked like.
B
Yeah.
A
Isn't it weird when we look at things now? For me I think, oh AI.
D
Oh really?
A
Yep.
D
That didn't cross my mind with this. It didn't give me AI vibes.
A
She shouldn't be bent the way that she is. It doesn't seem humanly possible. It's not AI, it's her. She's doing these things. Cuz there's videos too. And you're like, well Rod, that could be AI. It's her. She's. She's hired by the circus. She does this in front of people. Yeah. Not a scream. But that's who the feature is today. Wildcard Wednesday. She works with the circus. She's going to be in town. It's just insane to think that you can bend your body that way. Our friends over at Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey, we've been working with them. We had fun with them yesterday, offering up a very deeply discounted ticket to go see opening night. They want to help us with the backpack drive and so I came up with this for them. There's a. There's a. Basically an advertisement for the Circus Energy Stadium, August 6th through 9th. So you'll see that picture up on our Facebook page. I'm looking for you to comment on that picture. I'm asking for about 10 seconds of your day. I'm asking you to comment. Comment. You're on Facebook already. That means you're logged in. I need you to just comment and put the hashtag ringling circus. That's $5. It'll take you 10 seconds to do. It's $5 for every qualifying comment. A qualifying comment is just you posting hashtag Ringling Circus. If I can get a thousand of you to do it, I'll get $5,000. We're over $3,000 right now because I got over 600 of you that have done this. I'm trying to get a thousand. Everyone's day is different, especially just in the four hours that we are here. Most people are already at where they were going this morning, meaning work or they're doing. They've already dropped the kids off, whether it's daycare, school, usually during the year. Maybe now you have a time. Maybe now you have a second where it's like, okay, you know what? I do have a second. Right now. I'm sitting at my desk. I can do this. Do this. I could. Okay, I can do this. I can whip out my phone real quick. 10 seconds. I can give Rod his comment and try to get some money for the backpacks. That's what I'm hoping. I'm hoping for a massive push in the 9 o' clock hour because everybody is churning and burning. 6 o', clock, 7 o'.
C
Clock.
A
You're just trying to get to where you need to be. So you didn't have time to help us earlier. I understand that, but maybe you have the time now. I'm asking you to go over to our Facebook page. Okay, thank you. And thank you to the circus. Guys. They're so great. Two people asked me if they can sign up to play the suburb Summer Sizzler. Or is. Is it closed out?
D
Fair question.
A
No, nothing's closed out. Are you kidding me? Except for those that have played Richmond Spring and Atasita and Baytown. Those suburbs are closed out because they've already played once. Somebody represents that suburb, then that's it for that suburb. But tomorrow, I'll tell you who I bus is closed out. Aldean and Pasadena because they're playing tomorrow. But if I haven't mentioned your suburb, you can play and you can sign up to play. Sign up to represent your suburb, to try to win that $5,000. We play every day at 8:20. We had an interesting game today. I'll leave it at that. It's gonna go better tomorrow. Okay.
B
I don't know.
D
I mean, you just never know.
A
It was an interesting game today.
D
That's fun.
A
You gotta shout out your name when you. When you the hear song, and I'll stop and then I'll call on you. Then I'll call on you. After you say your name, then I'll call on you. And then you have to tell me the song title and the artist. All right, that's the game. Six Years Suburb. Summer. Sizzler. It's our sixth summer.
B
That's awesome.
A
Pretty great. Here's a chance for you to win $1,000. Listen now. Here's your chance to win $1,000. Just enter this nationwide keyword on our website. Bank that. That's bank. Enter it now. The Buzz.
B
Houston's rock and alternative and the Rod ryan Morning Show.
A
6 to 10am the buzz. 94. 5 the buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan show. Looking at our Facebook page. We're getting there. We're doing. You guys are doing a great job. Diego. So Diego took time out of his day today to go to our Facebook page. Saw the post about the circus, and he put Ringling Circus. Diego got US $5 to buy backpacks and school supplies. Kayla did the same thing. Lucretia did the same thing.
B
Nailed it.
A
Cass. Thank you. Jesse Fluffernutter Gonzalez. He put Ringling Circus. Okay, it's fluffing natter now. Melinda, I love you. I'm gonna be mo. Here. I'm gonna say bless your heart.
D
Okay.
A
She wrote, I remember the circus, but no. Hashtag, I need. I really, really. I really. Melinda Delos Santos, I need you get back over here. I need you to put the hashtag in there. Hashtag. You can keep your comment. That's great. I love that you remember the circus. Means you probably had parents that took you to the circus. What's that like? What was that like? Yeah, what was it like to have your parents take you places?
D
I remember the circus.
A
I know you all had parents that took you places. I don't know what that's like at a homemade backboard. Melinda, I need you to go back in there. I'm sorry. I need another 10 seconds. You were so nice and so sweet to go in there. I need you to put that hashtag Ringling Circus in there to get credit to get the $5. All right? For the. For the backpacks online, it's Alex online.
B
94.
A
5 the buzz. Okay. What you got today, dude? All right.
B
Today's AOL. I have been following this guy for a while now, and I just figured it was the time to show you guys what I've been following this is called eating like a founding father. And this guy, every several times a week he puts together like this is what Benjamin Franklin's meals were like. And then he will eat tongue beef. That was. I was gonna ask you weird stuff like that.
A
Is it a lot of fish?
B
A lot of fish. A lot of like tongues. So like Thomas Jefferson had about a pound of coffee grounds, like worth of coffee a day where he'd sit down and just drink about a pound of coffee in the morning.
A
Oh my God.
B
He had hoecakes. Hoecakes were very popular with the early president. Just cornmeal pancakes. Beef tongue is what Thomas Jefferson would have as breakfast in the morning. Andrew Jackson liked savory aspic, which was fish, boiled fish and jelly. So awesome weird stuff. And then like they just drank a lot of porter beers and all kinds of like dark beers. So this guy is just crushing beers after beers after beers and then he's mixing it with wine and cheese and he does like the full daily meal of all of them. It's a pretty great follow. Go check him out. He does George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, like all the founding fathers. He's gone through all of them and it's pretty cool to see. Wow, they ate some really gross stuff back in the day. And like Bill Clinton, just regular guy. Just like bacon and eggs, yo. Yeah, just. Just a chill guy breakfast. And it's pretty funny to go see.
A
So Trump loves McDonald's.
B
Yeah, he didn't do a Trump one. Didn't do a Trump one. I was looking for that because I was like, it's got to be just fast food.
A
I mean, I appreciate our founding fathers, but some of those things sound reckless.
B
Hey, they had to eat that so we can eat what we eat now, you know, but go check it out. Eat like a founding father at the Wolf Ryan show page@the buzz.com attention.
A

If you know the answer, then she rewards you with the tickets. Been some pretty great tickets. We gave away pit tickets in homeroom this morning. You, you're good about this. I know a gal won them. I can't remember her name.
D
Christy. No.
A
I asked Christy if she was going to send us a picture and I said she sounded a little cagey.
D
I don't know if you use that exact word, but you did say she sounded like there's no way in hell we were getting a picture from her.
A
Yeah, like she didn't give me. She didn't give me the impression that she was going to be taking a picture.
D
She had a tone too. You read the room.
A
She was excited. She was cool about winning the tickets, but I just thought there was something a little off cuz I'm like, hey, you know the deal. Have you. And she said she heard me say this before on the air. When you win tickets in the pit, what makes me happy? You don't have to. You're under no obligation. You've called, you won the tickets. You're listening. For you though, you're listening to the show. I'm gonna tell you why I'm jacked up with this energy drink you gave me earlier. I got that coming up in a second.
D
Oh, geez.
A
I got an email from Patrick this morning. Okay, Rod, I got in my truck, go to work today, right as you guys were talking about about today's winner for the Motionless and White tickets you gave away. We gave away pit passes in homeroom, 6 o' clock hour. So I heard you give away the tickets to Motionless and White. I got bad news for you. She's definitely not sending you a picture. Turns out the winner was my wife's best friend and she's giving us the tickets for my wife's birthday. And I can promise you we will 1000% send you a picture of us in the pit.
D
Okay. I did not know where that was going.
B
Yeah, I didn't either.
A
It really is a small world. It really is an insanely small world.
D
I'm obsessed. That's the best. What's his name? I'm going to change my notes here.
A
No, no, no. Because, well, Patrick is going to be.
D
Him and his wife won them. Patrick and his wife are to going.
A
But if there was something that was off about her, she wasn't that excited. She knew that she was giving them away to somebody. Yeah.
D
And she didn't want to make promises for her bestie, nor did she say
A
that on the air. But it turns out the deal's already been made. And he's going now. And he says, I love you guys. I mean it when I say it. I mean it when I love. When I say I love you guys. I. I mean it every single time. Patrick, thank you. All right. That's cool. He's super excited.
D
Thank you for the email. That was sweet. He.
A
He's super excited.
D
We're getting a picture.
A
Why am I so jacked up, Mo? What you give me this morning, did
D
it do it for you?
A
A Gorgi.
D
Gorgi protein drink.
A
Am I saying it right? Gorgi.
D
I think so. That's how I see it.
A
Energy drink. I don't drink energy drinks. And she's like, you want this? I'm like, yeah, why not? Yeah.
D
That's what you did. You trust me for some.
A
Please don't offer me drugs.
D
Bonjour Jovi is actually endorsing them now.
A
This is a Bon Jovi drink.
D
And Alex Earl, she's a famous influencer. She also drinks them. They're not behind it. They just endorse them.
A
Oh, okay. Yeah, well, it's good.
D
Normally drink them, but it's decent for you.
A
I'm not jittery. It's green tea caffeine. You said that hits differently.
D
I think it tastes different. It doesn't taste metaly.
A
Ella Langley's got an energy drink coming out. Oh, no, I'm an elephant. Ella, do you have any other songs?
D
She has plenty of songs.
A
We don't have anymore. Ella Langley out on tour. She's like the hottest thing in country music right now. And super hot.
D
Yes. And cool.
A
If you go. She seems cool.
D
Cool, yes.
A
If you go see her in concert. She's been promoting some collab with something called raw nutrition. Raw Raw are raw. All caps, nutrition. And she's got an energy drink coming out now because she's younger and in country. Everything's got to be nice. Is she not allowed to have a tequila at this point in her career?
D
She can have a tequila.
A
She's old enough. Yeah, she's doing an energy drink.
D
Good for her.
A
Everyone's got a drink. It's a very hot thing to have right now. No sugar, Peaches and Honey Flakes flavor.
D
Oh, that's cute.
A
No release date yet. Put me down for the Ella Langley
D

A
Put me down for that.
C
Yep.
B
All right.
A
This stuff was. This was pretty good today. What you gave me. I skipped. I skipped my cup of coffee during the show. I didn't want to do. You don't want to be around me.
B
You want to ramp it up?
D
Absolutely.
B
Can't have two, mind.
A
That was. I.
B
You can't. You really can.
D
I don't want to be here for it.
A
You do a five hour energy every day?
B
Almost, yeah.
A
Just one. Please tell me just one.
B
Most of the time.
D
But he also drinks coffee.
B
9% of the time it's just 1.
A
Sometimes it's 2.
B
Sometimes you need a little extra.
A
What's a. What's a 10 hour energy day look like for you?
B
Look, I didn't get a lot of sleep the night before and I'm up again late the next day.
A
You got them back to back? Yeah, sometimes.
B
Sometimes I'll do it and it's like an hour later. I'm like, let me just.
A
Let me bang.
B
If it's like a Friday night and like we. I worked in the morning, like if I go to bachelor parties. Everybody else took off Fridays and it's like. Well, Alex got up at 3am to go do this, so I'm gonna. I'm gonna double hit.
A
I don't know how Friday. Well, Chili goes out Fridays, but he goes out early after the show. Show. Somebody wants to do something with me starting at 7 o' clock on a Friday. It's so brutal.
B
That's why you got the five hours, bro.
A
Saturday.
B
No, because you can sleep on Saturday a little bit.
A
Yeah, I can't do it. All right. Ella Langley, you're on the. You're on watch.
D
I'll get us some too.
A
Look at. Look. Looking out for those energy drinks. This seagull with one eye eating out of a dumpster can mean only one thing. Summer is here. And seagulls don't gaf the Ron ryan show on 94. 5 the buzz. 94. 5 the buzz. Good morning Rod Ryan show. Red Hot Chili Peppers and around the world. Why do you guys. Not you in the studio. Why do you do this to me? Why do you always do this to me? We got an email from Marcus. Why? I could have gone about my whole life not knowing this. What happened specifically when I go to Tacos a Go Go.
D
Okay.
A
Free plug. I get something called barbacoa.
B
Yeah.
A
I don't know what it is.
C
Oh.
A
And I. And I. And I.
B
And I.
A
And I didn't know what it was. I just know that it tastes delicious. I don't need to know things in my life.
D
Life.
A
Marcus says, fun fact, if you like barbacoa, you eat beef, tongue and cheek meat.
B
It sounds way cooler calling it barbacoa though, than tongue and cheat meat.
A
Quick little Google search. Barbacoa is traditional Mexican cooking method that yields tender shredded meat. So far, I'm awesome with that. I love it. While it can be made from various proteins, it's most, most authentically made using beef. Specifically cow's head.
D
I was gonna say.
A
I thought it was the head, cheek, or tongue.
D
And they put the whole thing in like the broth. Right.
A
You son of a bitch. Marcus. Frendolf.
D
That's funny. My dad used to buy the whole cow growing up.
A
Come on.
D
And he would keep the tongue, like on purpose to freak us out. So we'd open up the freezer in our house, like in our kitchen, and the tongue would just be there.
A
How big is a cow's tongue?
D
It's pretty big.
A
Like you're making. You're doing a hand gesture thing. It's large like a Pringle can. Yeah, yeah.
D
Just be like curled up in my freezer.
A
I remember the day. I remember the day. I remember the person that told me, he said, I don't know, he said something about like, tilapia eats poop. I'm like, that was the last time I had tilapia.
C
Shut up.
D
So barbaco is done for you now.
A
Done?
C
Really?
A
Never again. I'm done. I can't. I won't be able to eat it.
D
Cuz you can't think of anything else.
A
Yeah. And then I looked up the tilapia thing just to see if I've been wasting my years. And they do eat poop. So I'm doing the right thing.
D
I'm not doing animals eat poop.
A
It's a farm and it's a farm.
B
Farm did their own thing. Poop Keep throwing back a little ball.
D
You live in an ocean. They're E too, though.
B
Yeah, but it's more spread out.
A
I'm just going to eat lettuce. Oh, damn. I can't even eat that now.
D
This is too much.
A
I can't even eat lettuce. What are you giving away?
D
