Good morning, this is Ed McMahon. And now, ladies and gentlemen, here's Rod Ryan. Okay. Hey, wakey wakey. Hands off snaky Rod Ryan show. Checking in on this throwback Thor Thursday. It's an all blue October edition of Throwback Thursday Today in honor of our friend Justin gonna be joining us today on the show. Hey, Rod, what you got for Houston's headlines?
Mo
Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is open, but only ships from countries that it doesn't consider enemies. Is it open to.
Rod Ryan
Okay, who's Iran?
Alex
Not an enemy.
Mo
The United nations is like, actually, around 20,000 sailors are stuck in the Persian Gulf because of the closure. A shipping analyst says Iran's message is clearly disingenuous, saying Iran has hit neutral ships with no ties to the U.S. or Israel. In breaking news as of two minutes ago, NBC is reporting that Israel says it killed the Iranian naval chief oversaw the blocking of this oil trade route.
Rod Ryan
Holy cow.
Mo
And I've got goosebumps just reading it. We learned yesterday that the US army is raising the maximum age for new recruits from the age of 35 raised up to the age of 42. The move puts the army more in line with the Air Force, the Navy, which both top out at 41. The army briefly raised the limit to 42 back in 2006 during the Iraq war before they lowered it again. So the timing with everything going on in Iran seems a little coincidental. But officials say the change has been in the works for months and it's not related to what's going on in the Middle East. Super screen time. We're all tracking how much screen time our kids are sucking up.
Rod Ryan
Yeah.
Mo
And then we have this survey that says 76% of adults will watch two screens at once.
Rod Ryan
Alex has three going. Sometimes more. Yeah, but at least three, though. He's got the phone.
Mo
No.
Alex
Yeah, the three iPads. Have three iPads.
Rod Ryan
The pad and then the television.
Mo
Are you counting? That is like each one gets its own screen time or are they all collectively?
Alex
Like, if I'm watching multiple games, that's just one screen. The basketball games last week and I
Rod Ryan
had multiple iPads going.
Alex
I had to watch all. I don't have control of the television in my house anymore.
Mo
Bluey. The new survey says the majority of adults admit to looking at their phone while watching a Movie or doing YouTube while on your laptop. It's. It's not unheard of. This survey also, I found interesting. You go a little deeper into it. It talks about how much time you could give up your cell phone.
Alex
Are you ever, like on Facebook? And then you just instinctively go to Facebook on your phone. You're like, oh, no, no, no, no. We're already on this.
Mo
We can't do Facebook twice.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, I get worried about that. You know, kids movies I'm watching with London and then like, I'd rather be on the phone 100%, but I don't because I don't want her to see me doing that.
Mo
I know it's hard.
Rod Ryan
That's the worst way.
Alex
You're trying to be better about that.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, because they're going to see you do it. Like, hey, I learned from watching you
Alex
pay attention to anything.
Mo
It's a lot. Every tabloid headline is screaming Bachelorette or Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but we know they go together. Taylor. Taylor. Frankie Paul, the star of Mormon Wives, also scheduled to be the season's Bachelorette, currently under a new investigation. Not her alleged third domestic violence incident involving her ex boyfriend.
Rod Ryan
Okay, so she's a horrible person. There's more horrible things out there. But what's the cherry on top?
Mo
The cherry on top is that the Bachelorette is losing a lot of money. ABC could have to pay Warner Brothers Studios, the producers, anywhere between 50 and 70 million if the show doesn't air. So they're still trying to figure things out. It's a pause. It's not a cancellation.
Rod Ryan
Yes, they're still talking about airing this
Mo
season, figuring out how to make it work. The iHeartRadio Music Awards are today. It airs from Fox, 7pm Our time. Also heard on iHeartRadio stations and the iHeartRadio app. Taylor Swift leads the nominations with nine nods. And Ludacris will host once again. He'll also perform on the show. Those are Houston's headlines.
Alex
Well, happy opening day, everybody. Happy MLB Opening day. Astros are going to start the regular season this afternoon when they host the Angels at Dyken Park. Hunter Brown is going to be on the mound for this. Drills going up against LA's Jose Soriano. First pitch is going to be at 3:10. They have a ton of stuff going down all around the ballpark before that though, if you want to get there early. If you're going to the game, you can listen to it on our sister station Sports Talk 790. In the NBA, the Rock, no surprise they lost the Timberwolves last night. They lost an OT, but I think they gave up a 150 run in overtime. So it's not great. They've lost four of six in some better basketball, college hoops. The Sweet 16 starts tonight. There are four games on the schedule at 6:10, UT is going to play Purdue. At 6:30. Nebraska takes on Iowa at 8:45, Arizona faces Arkansas and then wrapping up the night at 9:05, saving a special game for everybody. U of H gets to play the 905 game against Illinois. You can watch all the games on cbs, tbs, and True tv. I wonder how many people are going to be making the trek from Astros opening day over to see the Cougs because they're playing in Houston today.
Rod Ryan
I know one.
Alex
Who?
Rod Ryan
Mo's husband.
Alex
Oh, he's doing both.
Mo
Yes.
Rod Ryan
That's crazy.
Mo
I know. I'm proud of him.
Rod Ryan
That is a real man. Good on you.
Alex
Picking a good one. All right, guys, that's what's going on in sports.
Rod Ryan
All right, here we go. Four hours of pain starts right now. If you want the first phone call, come get it. 713-212-5945. Some of you have already sent me word suggestions for reading my lips. Yeah, I'm not gonna have time to monkey around today. I got a lot going on here, so, you know, I'm busy. I'm busy, but I need you guys to send me word suggestions. I want to wrap it up soon, okay? So homeroom come through for me. Email me rodatthebuzz.com first phone call. Come on. 94. 5 the Buzz Good morning Rod Ryan show. Anytime you start out the show, it's stained. It's gonna be a good show. I'm pred today. Good morning, everybody. I hope you're off to a great start to your day. I'm excited. I'm excited about the energy that Justin from Blue October brings into the studio. Every time he comes in, it's always a good time. He's such an easy dude to talk to. Just walks in in a good mood. He seems. I've had people. I've interviewed people before. Mo, you've interviewed people before where they were just kind of going through the motions. They're like, yeah, okay, I gotta talk to this.
Mo
Here's the answer I have to give.
Rod Ryan
Here's this rad loser I gotta talk to. If Justin feels that way, he's the greatest actor of all time. He really comes in and just, like I said, brings great energy. I really do. I really do love the guy. So we're gonna talk about what? Well, we announced the show. Two shows with them, our Blue Christmas shows. There's two shows coming up in December, so we can talk about that. It's the anniversary of their foiled record. That was their big breakthrough record, their fourth album. He's gonna play Read My Lips, People. I got a ton of people sending me word suggestions. I think it would be cool for somebody listening to the show to say, oh, that was my word that they used on read my lips when Justin was on.
Alex
That would be cool.
Rod Ryan
What we don't know is who Justin is going to play against.
Mo
Awkward.
Rod Ryan
Three of you guys. I'm thinking a name out of a hat.
Mo
Oh, okay.
Rod Ryan
If you come up with something better, let me know. But there's other things besides Justin coming in. There's Eddie going for win number four in the fresh out of bed, head to head challenge. I know he's up and ready to rock. And then there's the first phone call of the day.
Mo
It's now time for the first phone
Rod Ryan
call of the day. Yeah, it is time. I like to get one of you on first thing in the morning just to see what. What's going on out there. Allen, good morning. Hey, Rob. Good morning. Didn't we have an Allen drop? Alan. Alan. Wasn't that the one?
Alex
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
Ellen, where are you from? I'm from Houston, Texas. Okay. And what are you doing? What are you doing up so early, Alan? I just got off of work right now. I literally got in my car, I turned on the radio, heard you say call 945, and I called you guys, and I got home and then I asked Alan or I asked Alex if we had an Allen drop. And here's what he produced for me. Alan. Alan.
Alex
Yeah,
Rod Ryan
Long one.
Mo
What's it from?
Rod Ryan
Like a British. It was like no clue. British comedy bit.
Alex
Yeah, it was like a YouTube thing I saw.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, like animals, islands.
Mo
Like, trust me, I've seen it before. I know.
Rod Ryan
No, no, no, you're right. They did. They did pair that up with a groundhog, but the actual clip is like something from British show. What do you do on the over. I'm. I'm a dispatcher, so I just put an order across the thing. Yeah. No bosses around, right? Yeah, but, man, I like them. I love my job. You love your job. Okay. And how long you been doing it? Three years. Last week or the week before. Happy anniversary. Now what do you do right now? Is it time to have a beer and kick back and eat something big or is it time to go to bed? I have this funny routine. As soon as I get off of work, I go straight to, like, my favorite little taco place. I go home, eat it, watch a show, and then go to bed. Like, watch a show? A long show or something small. Half hour, 45 minutes. And then you hit the sack recently? I was watching dead to Me, I don't know if you've ever seen it. Oh, it's on. Netflix is so good man. You need to watch it. Okay, but so it's taco watch something that's your unwind and then you'll go to sleep. So let's say you go to sleep around 7:38. What time do you get up? Around 17, 1600. Go back to work again.
Mo
That's 4 o' clock.
Rod Ryan
1600 and go back to work. It's a long day, man. All right, listen Alan, thank you. I appreciate you starting your day off with us. Or I guess I appreciate you winding for having me on winding down your day with us.
Mo
We like tacos too.
Rod Ryan
Oh yeah? You want to bring some of those secret tacos over to us, Alan? Thank you Alan. I appreciate you gotta take a break. When we come back at a recheck for you, we'll find out what's trending and we'll get set up for our fresh out of bed head to head. Alan, you stick around. You should play the game. Try to call back the Buzz rock and alternative for Houston.
Mo
The Rod ryan Morning Show 6 to 10am 94.
Rod Ryan
Five the buzz. Welcome back Rod Ryan Show 626 thank you everybody. That's already taken the time to send me word suggestions for Read my lips. I got a bunch here. We know that Justin from Blue October is going to be one of the players today. He'll take on one of the cast members here of the Rod Ryan show. So keep emailing me Rod the buzz dot com. There's Alex. What's trending over there? Opening day.
Alex
Ever heard of it? Yeah, yeah, it's MLB opening day. Astros are going to open their season up against the angels today at 3:10 when they at Dyken Park. Moon base is trending. NASA unveiled plans for a bill a $20 billion base on the moon. We don't know when that would be finished if it does get finished. But did you know they're going to try and retire the ISS in 2030? I did not know that until just a second ago when I was reading about this.
Rod Ryan
No, I didn't hear that.
Alex
Yeah, they're going to try and go back to the moon 2028. I learned that. And then 2030 is the plan to retire at least this ISS. I don't know if they build another one. So they're trying to add a moon bas so then you can do other stuff on on there too.
Rod Ryan
Cool.
Alex
But yeah, pretty sick. A moon base would be badass. And then chapel Roan is Still trending. Her security guard took full responsibility and apologized for making 11 year old girl cry. Even though he may or may not have been told to.
Rod Ryan
Of course he was.
Alex
Reprimand the kid.
Mo
And then also he's also told to apologize.
Alex
Yeah, he's paid.
Rod Ryan
So he's got a tip.
Alex
Yeah, sure, I'll do that.
Rod Ryan
He's the fall guy.
Alex
He's a fall guy. But he apologized. So we can't get mad if somebody apologizes.
Rod Ryan
Right? Forgive him.
Alex
I feel like we gotta forgive everybody. Let's do that. Okay. Let's find it in our heart to forgive Chapel and her.
Mo
You have such a good heart, Alex.
Alex
This was training on Nightfall.
Rod Ryan
The Buzz. Good morning everybody. This is Eddie and I'm sticking around. I am your fresh out of bed head three day champion.
Justin Furstenfeld
Come on, Rod.
Rod Ryan
Two questions, two answers. Join me on Thursday when I make it win number 471-321-25945 if you think you can beat them. The Rod Ryan show. A radio network. An Empire upon an empire on 94.
Mo

Rod Ryan
Now it's complete control.
Mo
The buzz.
Rod Ryan
94. 5 the buzz. Good morning. Rod Ryan show. Third eye blind jumper throwback Thursday. It's an all blue October throwback Thursday. Today we'll do song clips.
Alex
You sure will, buddy.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, we'll do song clips after seven o'. Clock.
Mo
Excited.
Rod Ryan
Justin Furstenfeld joining us in studio after 8 o'. Clock. And then I, I got him penciled in to do a song with us at 9:05. So that's the 8:00 clock hour. Is the 8:00 clock hour. It's read my lips and all of that stuff. If he brings a guitar, we probably won't have time for him to sing until 9:05. And then I was told that he's gotta go.
Mo
Okay.
Rod Ryan
But we can keep him until then. And hopefully he will perform a song for us. Maybe he'll just be a little bit more warmed up and awake by then too. 20% chance of rain today. Partly cloudy, high of 87. At least that's how my schedule is. I don't know. The guy can do whatever he wants around here. And now it's time for the fresh out of bed head to head challenge. Listeners to your corners. Believer. I believe in Eddie as of yesterday. I always have. Since day one. Since his first. Since. Since day one. Eddie.
Justin Furstenfeld
Eddie.
Mo
I got your side.
Rod Ryan
Eddie, how are you? I'm doing good. Doing good. Two questions, two answers. I knew you had it in you, bro. What is today win number four, right? Hopefully. Hopefully. But then Jake is like, good morning, Jake. Morning. Last year, you played with us. Yeah. Did you have any surgery? Oh, okay. Yeah. By your response, I'm like, ooh. It sounds like it didn't go well. I get wet. That's true. Jake, are you ready to redeem yourself from your crappy performance last year? Of course I am. Okay. That's what it's all about.
Mo
Redemption.
Rod Ryan
He's just been sitting there angry for a year now. It mo. What are they playing for?
Mo
Well, today we have a pair of tickets to see Flyleaf bayou Music Center July 25th for our winner.
Rod Ryan
Sounds like a pretty good prize here. A little extra motivation to win. Shout out your name when you think you know the answer. Jake, you ready for this? Yes, sir. Mom's spaghetti, all that. You know what I mean? Like, feet, don't fail me now. All of that. Dude, come on. Here we go. Yep. One chance. All right, Eddie, here we go. Question number one. What color is the stitching on a standard baseball? Eddie. Jake. Oh, Eddie. Red. Who? Eddie's gonna be tough to beat. He's. He's just. He's just finding himself, and he's got
Mo
Rod Ryan on his side now, so.
Rod Ryan
Yeah. Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
Well, I mean, I still think I love Jake. You're like all my little children. I. I can't. I can't choose a favorite. Shout out your name when you think you know the answer. Eddie. And, Jake, who was the lead singer for the band Soundgarden? Eddie. Eddie. Chris Cornell. I didn't even hear Jake on that. Now I'm trying. No, you didn't. I didn't hear you at all. You showed up because you didn't even say your name.
Justin Furstenfeld
Good game, Eddie.
Rod Ryan
Good game. You did not. Thanks, man.
Justin Furstenfeld
Thanks, man.
Rod Ryan
Name on the Soundgarden question.
Mo
He's more of an M M dude.
Rod Ryan
It's like I'm an Eddie Vedder guy. What can I say? All right, Jake. Goodbye. Good to have you back on. Bye. All right. Bye, Jake. Eddie. What up?
Alex
What up?
Rod Ryan
Let's go. Let's go. Tomorrow you want to play and try to make it the hall of Fame? I do, but we're not going to talk about that. One day at a time, okay? We're not talking about it.
Mo
The Rod ryan show on 945 the buzz.
Rod Ryan
94. 5 the buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan show. That's Bad Omens and just pretend. Rod Ryan show. And everybody's rolling with Eddie right now. The Fresh out of Bed, Head to Head challenge. Here's your current champion. Good morning, everybody.
Justin Furstenfeld
This Is Eddie. You're fresh out of bed. Head to head.
Rod Ryan
Four day champion. Picking up believers every single day. Rod might even be on board now. And another two questions, two answer game. My mind is right. Join me on free beer Friday when I make it win number five and
Justin Furstenfeld
get into that hall of fame.
Rod Ryan
Guy's been on with us all week. Can Eddie close it out tomorrow? It's must listen to radio. Join us in homeroom. Okay, now looking ahead, I got some fun facts for you guys. Moe's sitting on some Dave Matthews band tickets, so she's gonna talk about those. But yeah, let me. Let me serve these new ones up here. It's the fun fact of the day. We make you look smart in front of your buddies. It's the fun fact of the day. Alex is telling me they're thinking about building some infrastructure on Mars or, I'm sorry, this. On the moon. Yeah, on the moon. Right. Elon wants to start building a moon base. A moon base? Well, we have been to the moon before. It's been a long time since we've been there. What was that first meal looking like on the moon? Back in the day?
Alex
Freeze dried probably.
Rod Ryan
Well, I got it for you. Here's the menu. Bacon bits, peaches come in a can. They were put there by a man. Sugar cookie cubes. Okay. A pineapple and grapefruit drink. And a little coffee. Boy, could I go for a cup right now.
Mo
Oh, wow.
Rod Ryan
It's all right.
Mo
I know you're almost there.
Rod Ryan
It's like 10 days until Easter. I can have a cup of coffee. Cup of coffee. Now, teddy bears were named after President Teddy Roosevelt. They were a huge hit. So a toy company got the idea to recreate that formula. The next president was William Howard Taft. Our fattest president. Our heaviest president ever. And they sold stuffed possums. They were called Billy Possums and they didn't catch on. That is fun. Like, you had the teddy bear and
Mo
then like, oh, look at it now.
Rod Ryan
Like, let's sell Billy Possums. And they. They didn't go over very well. Tom and Jerry grew up watching some Tom and Jerry cartoons. They're old.
Alex
We called them.
Rod Ryan
What'd you call them?
Alex
William and James.
Rod Ryan
William and James. That was their formal names, but they had names before they were Tom and Jerry or William and James Williamson. No, they were named Jasper and Jinx.
Alex
That sounds way cooler.
Rod Ryan
Jasper and Jinx. There was a contest to name them. Animator John Carr won $50 for coming up. They. They didn't. They didn't feel Jasper and Jinx were catching on. So then they ran a contest for $50 renamed Jasper and Jinx and John Carr won the $50. He came up with the names Tom and Jerry. It's the fun fact of the day. We make you look smart in front of your buddies. It's the fun fact of the day, which I think is a drink.
Mo
A Tom and Jerry.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, I think it's a holiday eggnoggy vibe thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Give me a Tom and Jerry. Tom. Jerry. I don't know. There's a Tom Collins. I know that. What are you giving away?
Mo
Well, Dave Matthews Band is kicking off their summer series here in the Woodlands. And we want you there May 8th. Tickets are on sale ticketmaster.com but you can win a pair of if you know this flashback.
Rod Ryan
All right. It's your fun fact flashback. Can't believe the Billy Possum didn't take off.
Mo
Yeah, I kind of wonder. Can I still get one? Is it too late?
Rod Ryan
Yeah, I bet you the rare.
Mo
You think?
Rod Ryan
Probably worth a ton. Karl Marx had four daughters. They all have the same name. What did he name all four daughters? 713-212-5945. It's now time for Rock out with your stockout with Captain Cash.
Alex
All right.
Rod Ryan
Well, showing up at the airport yesterday four hours early looks like it paid off. He got to where he needed to go. Hi. How. Good morning, brother Rod. Good morning. On a scale of 1 to 100, how awful was the airport situation yesterday at George Bush? It was. It was close to a 10,000. It was unbelievable. I was talking. Sorry. If you have to travel. I was talking to him while he was in line. He's just like. Like, it's so bad. He goes. The cameras just don't even do it justice. It's so bad. Crying babies, everything else. Oh, Lord, I'm glad you got to where you needed to go. How many do on Wall street yesterday? A good day on Wall Street. The d was up 305 points. Kickoff this morning at 46,429. Mo
Okay.
Rod Ryan
Justin's gonna try to win you a lot of pressure tickets to go see him. So that's coming up. And I'm told he's bringing a guitar. So that's good news, Mo. Good news when you're. Well, it's not always good news news, unfortunately, but. Houston headlines. It's your turn. What you got?
Mo
Thank you. Good morning. Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is open, but only ships from countries they don't consider enemies can get through. United nations is like, actually, there's 20,000 sailors stuck in the Persian Gulf because of your closure. Breaking news early this morning when we got here, NBC was reporting that Israel says it killed the Iranian naval chief who was overseeing the blocking of that crucial oil trade route.
Rod Ryan
Like you're getting ready for the first Houston headlines an hour ago. And you're like, this has been out for two minutes.
Mo
Two minutes?
Rod Ryan
Yeah.
Mo
Like it popped up on my phone.
Justin Furstenfeld
It's like, oh, yeah. Hello.
Mo
We'll continue, obviously to keep you updated. A very busy day across the city of Houston means traffic problems for everyone for a good chunk of the day. This isn't a normal Thursday in h town. We have the Texas Children's Houston open kicking off a memorial park right now. Those closures started at 4am so if memorial park area is in your morning normal commute, just avoid it. Massive downtown crowds are building Astro's opening day. There's that big energy conference Sarah week or whatever it's called. NCAA suite 16. And with the sweet 16 comes fan fest at the George R. Brown.
Rod Ryan
How are people getting here? I don't like the airport. Good luck. And then. Then you're gonna have to eventually leave us. These people may just become residents of Houston.
Alex
Well, good.
Rod Ryan
And just stay welcome.
Mo
I don't know. And Rhodes? I just don't. I don't know. I don't know. Listen to somebody that knows. Young couples would rather take engagement trips than buying engagement rings. Think about it.
Rod Ryan
Oh, bring Alex O back. He's a gen zer. Maybe he'll know something about this.
Mo
So this new report found that the major people said the engagement rings have evolved from a symbol of love to a financial burden and shackling.
Alex
They've always been a financial burden. Women might just understand it now, but they probably not.
Mo
Do you have a feeling, Alex, that you need to, like, get out?
Alex
I'm just saying that, like, the dudes would have always been like, yeah, we could take a trip, but this.
Rod Ryan
Doesn't this kind of go hand in hand with everything that we've heard? Like, people want experiences now.
Mo
Yes.
Rod Ryan
It's more valuable than. Than. Than things.
Mo
A physical thing.
Rod Ryan
Yes.
Alex
Hear me out, though. Honeymoon, right?
Mo
It's not groundbreaking.
Rod Ryan
Sort of a trip that you get.
Alex
You get to do with that person.
Rod Ryan
That's not enough. They want to. They want to trip all the time now. They want trips.
Alex
Trip, then the honeymoon. Got it.
Mo
I mean, of course, it's being led by gen zers that would rather pass on the ring and just go on the trip together. I don't know. We'll see if it actually holds. Savannah Guthrie. She's going to appear on the Today show today and tomorrow. She sat down for an interview with Hoda, and the preview clip was circulating yesterday, and it's actually devastating.
Rod Ryan
So I saw a clip. Was she on yesterday and Today?
Mo
No, I think it airs she. They recorded it and then. So that's where we saw the previews.
Rod Ryan
I saw a clip and I watched it this morning. I don't know why I wanted to start my day out that way, but I feel so bad for her.
Mo
Genuine.
Rod Ryan
She just thinks about her mom all the time and said she wakes up
Mo
in the middle of night thinking about what her mom went through when she was being abducted.
Rod Ryan
Yeah.
Mo
Savannah's trying to communicate just like the unbearable agony that her family's experiencing. After the clip aired, Hoda was like it was weighing on Hoda more than it already was. And she's just trying to describe the desperation and then just how Savannah is so strong but also so vulnerable during this time.
Rod Ryan
Do you think any of those rumors are true, that Savannah of does want to eventually come back to work, or you think she's done well?
Justin Furstenfeld
This.
Alex
I feel like she probably wants to. I don't know if it'll happen.
Mo
Yeah. Deep down, like you, everything is okay.
Rod Ryan
They got to keep the job open for her if she wants to come back.
Mo
Hoda still filling in? Yeah, I think so.
Rod Ryan
Does Hoda want it back? Does Hoda want back on tv?
Mo
Has a good life outside of tv.
Rod Ryan
Okay.
Mo
Yeah. Sublime announced the release of their first album in nearly 30 years and and their first with Bradley Null's son Jacob as the lead singer. Until the Sun Explodes. It's what it's called the first album in nearly three decades. Set for release July 12th. They're saying fans can expect to feel a little bit of nostalgia when listening to the project.
Rod Ryan
Alex says he's going to give us a clip of the title track coming up later today.
Mo
Yeah. Okay, Alex. Thank you. Those are Houston's headlines.
Rod Ryan
Take it, Alex.
Alex
Well, it's MLB opening day. The Astros open up the regular season this afternoon when they host the Angels at Dyken Park. Hunter Brown will be on the mountain. The Strohs going up against LA's Jose Soriano. First pitch is at 3:10. You can listen to the game on our sister station Sports Talk 790BA. The Rockets lost the Timberwolves in overtime last night, 110 to 108. They've lost four of their last six in college hoops. The Sweet 16 starts tonight. There's four games on the schedule. At 6:10, Texas is going to play Purdue. Then at 6:30, Nebraska takes on Iowa. At 8:45, Arizona will face Arkansas. And wrapping up the night at 9:05, U of H will play Illinois. You can watch all the games on CBS, TBS and TruTV. That is what's going on in sports,
Rod Ryan
rock and alternative for Houston.

Listen. Today 94. Five the buzz. Good morning Rod Ryan show on this throwback Thursday. An all blue October throwback Thursday. We'll get to song clips later on this hour for sure, as well as getting to some Houston Rocket Singers. I. I gotta address this a couple of things. Keep that Sublime song. Keep that warm in your head. Okay. Keep that warm in your head. The guy that won the fun fact flashback said Alex O. And I thought, okay, it's this Alex O guy. Gen Z emails me. Me wonders why I don't talk about Sabrina Carpenter every day on this show. Like, daily wondering why I'm not talking about giving Sabrina Carpenter updates. That's what I'm dealing with on the back end here on this show. I got an email here. It says stolen Valor.
Mo
What?
Rod Ryan
In the subject line, which I have to. That's a serious accusation from Alex O. That was. Isn't me. I'm gonna fight that guy. I'm the only Alex O. The original Alex number two, Alex Middleton is one. I'm two. So there's another Alex O running around out there. Yeah, that was a different Alex O.
Alex
Yeah, he messaged me that Stolen valor immediately.
Rod Ryan
He's upset. All right, very good. Now I got. Now he's gonna be crusty about a couple things with me. I said, keep that Sublime song in your head. And then Mo. Keep that Sublime story handy. They are not. We've got. We finally. We've known that the kid's gonna be singing for Sublime for some time now. Okay. We've met Jacob Noel. He's been in town. He was at the 20th anniversary show. He put on a hell of a performance. He. He was a really cool guy. He was really fun to meet. I'm still amazing how long it has taken this process to get going, but if it's worth it, it's worth. If it's good, it's worth waiting for. We have a date for the new album for the Sublime album with Bradley Knowles son Jacob taking over the lead vocals. What's the name of the album?
Mo
The album is until the Sun Explodes.
Rod Ryan
The date that it is released, set
Mo
for release July 12th.
Rod Ryan
Guess when they release their first single last night. This is the title track of the album, until the Sun Explodes. Mo, I cannot stress. He sounds just like his dad. It's crazy. I sent it to the wizard. I'm like, hey, Sublime released a new song last night.
Mo
It's here.
Rod Ryan
And all the information about their album. So he's got the info. That's it. It sounds kind of this more so than what we've already heard.
Justin Furstenfeld
Really?
Rod Ryan
Really does sound exactly like his dad.
Alex
Yeah, it does.
Rod Ryan
That sounded like it's like somebody doing
Alex
an impression, but it's like his kid. So it's not an impression. It's just because you are part him.
Rod Ryan
You said Rome was coming to town. He was opening up for somebody. Rome. Rome was filling in. Sublime got back together, and Rome did an awesome job. Rome did a great job, but they had had to call the project Sublime. With Rome, the family didn't really buy into it. The. The Noll family. And they obviously are buying into the kids singing. Okay. It's his son.
Mo
Right.
Rod Ryan
The family, of course, is gonna. Gonna. Gonna bless this, but Rome did a great job, and Rome fit and it felt comfortable. But not like this. No, not like this. I mean, come on. This is crazy how much this sounds like old Sublime. Until the sun explodes. Chilean put the. The album information on the music blog page, and he put the video up. They released the video like 15 hours ago. So we've got the first song from the new album. So is Ensenada on this album? Was Ensenada just something to keep us busy? Yeah, I'm sure going to be on the album. All right, let me take a short break. Justin Furenfeld. He'll be here in an hour. Justin from Blue October hanging out with us.
Alex
You're meeting Justin.
Justin Furstenfeld
Like, he's.
Alex
He's a sweetheart, but he's intimidating.
Rod Ryan
Did you meet him at Buzz? Was it Buzzfest?
Mo
Yes, Buzzfest was the first time I met him.
Alex
Okay, you did meet him. So never.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, she did get a chance to meet him.
Mo
You made me nervous asking.
Rod Ryan
I was nervous. Like, I need more. I need more word suggestions. Justin's gonna play Read My Lips. Do you want to know right before or do you want to know now? Who's gonna play?
Mo
Justin, I think Right before is kind of fun.
Rod Ryan
Right before?
Mo
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
All right. If you get three names and a
Mo
hat, I'll get ready for you.
Rod Ryan
Okay. Just get. So you don't want to know?
Mo
Nah, I don't want to.
Rod Ryan
Because if it's her, she doesn't want to ruin her day. Walk right into it. Yeah. All right. She wants to know. She wants to know right before. Okay. So, yeah, I need you to email. Email me some word suggestions. Houston's Rockin Alternative, the Rod ryan Morning Show.
Mo
6 to 10am 94. 5 the buzz.
Rod Ryan
94. 5 the buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan Show. Thank you so much for starting your day off with us. Hope it's a great start, too. Partly cloudy, 20% chance of rain, high of 87. A little warm for March. So. Okay, my emails have dried up.
Mo
Oh, no.
Rod Ryan
Apparently. What the hell? Well, apparently, whatever I was saying in homeroom that got people fired up. And I was getting a ton of word suggestions for read my lips. I want to kind of get. I want to get it behind me because then I want to get ready because we're going to talk to Justin from Blue October. And of course the words you're sending in are going to be used for Read my lips. He's playing this morning. So I need you. And maybe it's somebody that's never sent in word suggestions before. I need you to email me rodthebuzz.com give me some great words that I can use for the game today. I asked Mo, we'll do like a random drawing of the three characters here. Who's gonna play Justin, they have all
Mo
our names in a cup.
Rod Ryan
And I asked you, do you want to do it now or right before the game? And you said, please, right before the game. And then I said, okay, yeah, I'll do that. But keep sending me those words. Words. What words would be great for today's read my lips? Alex, what you got? MLB opening day.
Alex
Yeah, it's gonna probably be trending all morning long, but all of the teams besides the Giants and Yankees will be opening up the regular season today. Astros first pitch is at 3:10 when they host the Angels at Dyken Park.
Rod Ryan
How'd it go with the Yankees yesterday? They won by a touchdown. Yeah.
Alex
One by a touchdown.
Mo
Was it seven to zero?
Alex
Seven Nothing touch on an extra point.
Rod Ryan
No kidding.
Alex
All right, Savannah Guthrie is trending earlier, but she talks to Hoda Kotb about her mother's disappearance in a new interview. It looks like they just aired it, but it's out today on the Today show and many other Internet platforms. And then Usher is trending. He says his former mentor Sean P. Diddy Combs is being, quote, misrepresented. I saw that in this whole sex trafficking case.
Rod Ryan
Weird for Usher to get behind.
Alex
Yeah, he's getting some heat online and that's kind of why it's trending. So that's what's trending, though, on I provide the buzz.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, Usher, go back and watch that Cassie video and then didn't look great. See if you want to comment again like that you got some tickets to give away?
Mo
Yeah, but I can't stop thinking about Usher now. I'm curious what he has to say
Rod Ryan
or what does PDD have on him that you know, also would.
Mo
I am going to give away. Take tickets, Rod. I have a four pack of tickets to see the Houston Rockets take on the Milwaukee Bucks. This is happening April 1st at the Toyota Center. You could buy tickets toyota center.com or you can win them.
Rod Ryan
Yeah.
Mo
Right now.
Rod Ryan
Right now. Yes. You want people calling now?
Mo
Now's good for me. Is it good for you?
Rod Ryan
Do you remember the number?
Mo
I wrote it down. It's 713-212-5945.
Rod Ryan
I used to have her. I had it written down for 20 years.
Mo
Yeah, here I am.
Rod Ryan
One day I gave my cell phone 94. 5 the buzz. 94. 5 the buzz. Good morning, Rod. Ryan Shao on this throwback Thursday. Hey, Mo, would you pull up the voting? Yeah, please. It's an all blue October throwback today and I did suggest one of the songs, so.
Mo
Oh, so you have a bias.
Rod Ryan
Well, I've got a dog in the fight, I think, as they say. So if you pull those up. Alex said he's prepared to do some song clips as we get ready for our friend Justin Furstenfeld to join us in studio. Justin will be here after 8 o' clock and we he's been invited to play read my lips this morning. So he's going to play one of you knuckleheads today on the show and people are doing a great job. Continue sending me emails of words that we can use during the game. Today on the phone is this person. Who are you? Good morning. Hello. Hi. What's your name? My name's Paul Hernandez. Hey, Paul Hernandez. Your caller 10. Congratulations. Awesome. That is awesome. What are you giving Paul Hernandez?
Mo
Paul, It's a four pack of tickets to the Rocket stick On the Bucks April 1, Toyota Center. Have the best time.
Rod Ryan
That is amazing. I truly appreciate it. I appreciate you, dude. Thanks for being a part of the show this morning. You sound great, Paul. Have an awesome day. Thank you too. All right. So as I'm getting ready, you know, I always like to not that like Justin's coming in for an interview. He's just coming in to hang out. But I always like to dig around a little bit and see what's going on with the guys so that I'm up to date on everything. And then as I'm digging around, I just found this girl on the Internet.
Alex
Steel drum, it sounds like.
Rod Ryan
Yeah. My guess is Justin's never heard this. It's only been up for 11 days. Yeah.
Alex
Should we tell him it was Mo playing it?
Rod Ryan
Yeah, I'm gonna tell him it's me. I'm gonna tell him it's me. And he needs to take me out on tour.
Mo
Okay.
Rod Ryan
And they need to go calypso on the next oh, yeah album.
Alex
Eddie Vedder did, like, a ukulele album. Justin could do a steel drum album.
Rod Ryan
Okay.
Mo
This is a bop.
Rod Ryan
This is Hate Me.
Mo
Yeah, she's doing great.
Rod Ryan
Isn't it good? Yes.
Mo
I didn't know it had so much range.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Steel drum. Every note is. Every note is dead on. This is the song that she's playing. Now. Wizard put this in. He put hits in there today for Throwback Thursday. And then I had to get in there and say, of course they're out on tour. It's the 20th anniversary of the album Foiled, which was their real big major national breakthrough. April 4, 2006, the album comes out, and that album produced Hate Me and Into the Ocean. But Hate Me was the song. Hate Me was the song they got on the. The TV shows and everything. They got to play. We'll ask him about it. We'll ask him what shows he was on. They might have done, like, Leno and stuff, you know, Conan o'. Brien. Is this leading. This is their biggest song ever.
Mo
I think this song is in third place currently.
Rod Ryan
What? Yeah, third place.
Mo
Seventh place. 17 of the votes.
Rod Ryan
Okay, well, then the other one that wizard put in.
Justin Furstenfeld
I'm just a normal boy that sank When I fell overboard My ship would
Rod Ryan
leave the country, I believe Foiled produced four singles, but the two big ones were Hate Me and this one, into the Ocean. This is in first place.
Mo
It is. Okay, 49 of the votes. Last time I refreshed.
Rod Ryan
Okay, for the OG Blue October fans, this is the one that I demanded be in there today. If you're an old school fan. The first kind of airplay in the first real. You know where people started recognizing this band outside of the clubs was the song Calling you. Something that I can't quite explain. I'm so in love with you. You. You never take that away, guys. You don't get to hear this. You get to hear the other ones. This is what you don't get to hear on the radio anymore. How could you not vote for this one Calling you? Is that what you voted for? Yes. Thank you, Alex.
Alex
I know, I know.
Rod Ryan
I like you today. I like you.
Alex
You like me every day.
Rod Ryan
Well, expect me to be calling you
Justin Furstenfeld
to see if you're okay When I'm
Rod Ryan
not around asking if you love me I love the way you make it sound calling you smile. This is 25 years old and it's still that blue October sound like that's another thing to ask Justin. He found his voice so early. I know he's gonna say, oh, you know, I've matured in my writing and everything over the years. But that's his voice. That's him.
Alex
And he has me change. But it still stays consistent.
Rod Ryan
Yes. Yes. They just have something different. And even 25 years ago and this is still. People lose their mind when they do this live. So this is the one that I said needs to be in on throwback Thursday Most telling me it's in second place.
Mo
Second place.
Rod Ryan
It deserves better. It deserves better than that. Calling Me is a song that should should be played at 9:30 this morning. But it's not up to me. It's up to you. The voting is happening on the world famous Rod Ryan show blog page@the buzz.com the Rod Ryan show mornings on 94.
Justin Furstenfeld
5.
Rod Ryan
The Buzz Rod Ryan show of this throwback Thursday. Yeah, it's an all blue October throwback Thursday today. You are voting right now on the world famous Rod Ryan show blog page@thebuzz.com Guys, all hell's gonna break loose when Justin gets here after 8 o'. Clock. I know it's going to be real fun. We'll be talking about any number of things. We can talk about anything with Justin. But there is a food blog page. There is a crazy criminal blog page. All that stuff is up mo you
Mo
want to talk about food?
Rod Ryan
Well, okay, we can. There's just a lot of food stuff. There's a lot of. There's a lot of food blog things. Items. A lot of new things and things for you to try out and all that. So you can go check that out on the links and guests today. You can go and work on that on your own. No sign of Justin yet. I was told his ETA would be around 8 o' clock this morning. And we'll do the drawing to see who's gonna play him. And read my lips. Also I've asked him to bring a guitar. If he would like to bring a guitar, that would be great. Maybe do some singing this morning. Maybe a song. A song.
Mo
That'd be really cool.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, that would be cool.
Mo
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
Where are we at with the sweet 16? Are they picking up again today?
Alex
They start tonight.
Rod Ryan
Tonight.
Mo
Tonight.
Rod Ryan
So we got to play the Sweet sixteen song because Then it's gonna change after today. All right, here we go. Blue Devil sections, Red Some Crimson Ties, Farting Sugars, Longhorns Fighting, Inline Eye, Wolverines, Volunteers, Razorbacks, Huskies, Hustlers, Hawkeyes and Wildcats. Your picks are the worst I've ever seen. Your bracket looks redacted like an email from Epstein. The Sweet Sail 16. That's funny. All right, good luck. Anybody that's still hanging in there on their brackets. The Rod ryan Morning show, 6 to 10am, the buzz. Hey, I can do that. Houston's rock and alternative. I was just gonna tell you all that stuff. Good morning, everybody. Hey, it's the Rod Ryan show. They're here. They are here, here. We knew Justin was coming in. Ryan's here, which is awesome that Ryan got up early this morning. Ryan is the violinist and he's an OG member of the band. And of course, manager Paul is here. We're gonna talk to the guys. In blue October, after 8 o', clock, we're still slated to have Justin play Read My Lips or Go for that. I didn't see a guitar. I didn't see. I didn't see. But they just kind of stepped in to say hi, so I don't know what they brought with them.
Mo
We're up for whatever.
Rod Ryan
We are up for whatever, right? It's a hard thing. I. I hate asking singers to sing early in the morning or. I don't know. I hate asking fiddlers to fiddle so early in the morning.
Alex
Just don't ask me to do it on a roof.
Rod Ryan
I think he'd love to do it on the roof. Ryan would get up on the roof and play right now. I'm sure he would. Ask him, if we got you on the roof, would you play right now?
Alex
How many roofs do you think he's fiddled on?
Rod Ryan
Another great question, Alex. Why you save this? I'll write it down. This is gold, Jerry. All right, we're gonna talk to the guys from Blue October coming up in studio. We're gonna give away tickets to go see them. They got a couple of shows. Our Buzz, Blue Christmas shows with them. There's two of them. December 18th and 19th. We got 20, chance of rain, partly cloudy, high of 87. And I got mo with Houston's headlines.
Mo
Thanks, Rod. So Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is open, but only to ships from countries that they don't consider enemies. The United nations is like, actually, 20,000 sailors are stuck in the Persian Gulf because of this closure.
Rod Ryan
Somebody suggested Hormuz for Read My Lips. I'm like, Guys, No, I don't know
Mo
how to say that word when I'm looking at it. Like, I have no idea.
Rod Ryan
Somebody suggested straight of Hormuz.
Mo
Rude. And why do you hate us? Breaking news. We saw this morning. NBC News reported that Israel said it had killed the Iranian naval chief who is overseeing the blocking of this crucial oil trade route. Straight of Hormuz. So that's developing still. We learned yesterday that the US army is raising the maximum age for new recruits from 35 to 42. This puts the army more in line with the Air Force and the Navy, which both top out at 41. Back in 2006, during the Iraq war, the army briefly raised the limit to 42 back then. So some are saying that this timing with everything going on in Iran seems to be like a little bit of a coincidence, if you know what I'm saying. But the army says this has been in works for months.
Rod Ryan
Too late for me, though. But Alex get in on it? Alex can still get in.
Alex
I've been thinking about it.
Rod Ryan
Chili's upset. Chili doesn't make the cut either. You're the only one that makes the cut on the shooter. Go, Mo.
Alex
You make the cut.
Rod Ryan
Oh, Mo. You can join the army. Let's go together. We could be so. It'd be so much fun.
Mo
It would be something, wouldn't it?
Alex
Just a little trip to Iran.
Mo
I love America. Is super screen time a thing? 76% of adults will watch two screens at one time. Alex.
Rod Ryan
Wait a minute. No, we already know that. Alex has 10 screens on.
Mo
Yes.
Rod Ryan
You watch a movie with your phone in your hand.
Mo
I don't tend to watch a lot.
Rod Ryan
You don't watch a lot of movies?
Mo
I watch my eyelids at the same time.
Rod Ryan
Do you watch tv, though? We have something on the tv.
Mo
Kids are watching something on tv. I'm on my phone. So that's double screen time.
Rod Ryan
Okay.
Mo
But I'm not counting it as double screen time.
Rod Ryan
I'm just like, well, it counts.
Mo
Screen is one.
Rod Ryan
If I'm watching something with lunch. We don't watch a lot of TV in our house.
Mo
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
If I'm watching something with London and I've, like, made this, like, hey, you and I are gonna watch this.
Mo
You're committed.
Rod Ryan
I'm committed.
Mo
And it's really good.
Rod Ryan
And I won't have my screen. I won't have my phone in my hand. Could you. I don't want to see that.
Mo
Could you give it up?
Rod Ryan
Did I.
Mo
This is part of this survey. Could you ever give up your cell phone?
Rod Ryan
Yeah. How long For a long time.
Mo
Like months.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, it would be awesome.
Mo
4% of humans say they could give it up more than a month.
Alex
You just can't.
Rod Ryan
I went a couple days without a phone and you need double authentication to get on website and stuff to get into our emails. You got to have a phone now
Mo
my it for me. It's gps. I rely on that. Yeah, I really do. It's bad.
Rod Ryan
Yep.
Mo
Every tabloid headline is screaming Bachelorette or Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, I see this every day.
Mo
Her name is Taylor Frankie Paul. She is the star of Mormon Wives. She was also sketching. Scheduled to premiere as this season's Bachelorette. She is currently. This is the newest headline currently under investigation for an alleged third domestic violence incident involving. Involving her ex boyfriend Dakota.
Rod Ryan
Okay.
Mo
So the police are reviewing all that evidence.
Rod Ryan
The hits keep coming.
Mo
The reason that the Bachelorette says they paused was because of the original dispute. The first documented dispute between the two. And that video got released least. So the Bachelorette's like pause. Pause is the key word there. Because if ABC doesn't run this season of the Bachelorette, they can't. They could owe their production company Warner Bros. Anywhere from 50 to 70 million dollars.
Rod Ryan
It's Disney. They can't do it. I know they're saying that they're trying to find a way to salvage it. I think the PR would be so bad.
Alex
Did they just air it on, like Hulu? Yeah, like they put it on the streaming service.
Rod Ryan
They own Hulu.
Mo
They cover their butts.
Rod Ryan
And then even though it's owned by Disney, everybody knows ABC and Disney. Yeah, Hulu. I bet you could probably release it there and try to go a little under is and only outrage people like me.
Mo
And that's Secret Wives. That's where the Mormon show is.
Rod Ryan
Hulu.
Mo
That's ludicrous. And he will be hosting the iHeartRadio Music Awards today. The show airs on Fox 7pm our time. Can also be heard on iHeartRadio stations and the iHeartRadio app. Taylor Swift leads the nominations with nine nods.
Rod Ryan
And she's gonna be there.
Mo
You think so?
Rod Ryan
My guess is she wins big.
Alex
I hope she wins all nine.
Mo
Those are Houston's headlines.
Rod Ryan
Take it, Alex.
Alex
Happy opening day, everybody. The Astros are gonna open up their regular season this afternoon when they take on the Angels at Dykin Park. Hunter Brown will be on the mound for this. Drills going up against LA's Jose Soriano. Mo's going to be there.
Mo
I am.
Alex
You excited?
Mo
I'm going to be cheering loud.
Rod Ryan
You're going to the game.
Mo
I am.
Rod Ryan
Good for you.
Alex
Yeah.
Mo
National holiday colors on.
Rod Ryan
Got that opening day vibe. Yeah.
Alex
And then first pitch will be at 310. You can listen to it on our sister station Sports Talk 790. In the NBA, the Rockets lost to the Timberwolves in overtime last night, 110 to 108. Arizona faces Arkansas. And wrapping up the night at 9:05, the Houston Cougars will take on Illinois. You can watch all the games on CBS, TBS and TruTV. That is what's going on in sports.

Wherever you get your podcasts, I've the buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan show. That's Lincoln park, faint halfway point of the show, people. Rod Ryan show on this throwback Thursday. Oh, mo. Could you give me an update quickly? I know that you've had the voting up all morning long. It's an all blue October throwback Thursday and wizard put the hits in there. It's almost not fair, but I'm really kind of championing one of the songs because I'm going real old school here. In first place.
Mo
In first place. Calling you.
Rod Ryan
Yes, that's the one I want.
Mo
I demanded 7% of the vote.
Rod Ryan
I demanded to be in there today. Is that what we're doing?
Justin Furstenfeld
We're like, like seeing which one they like the most.
Rod Ryan
That song's gonna be played at 9:30, the winning song. So.
Justin Furstenfeld
So they vote for which one they want to hear the most.
Rod Ryan
Yeah. So all morning long. Calling you, calling you. I called up wizard yesterday. I'm like, dude, he sent me some songs. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, no. We got a calling you in there.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
It's almost not fair because all the foil from Foil. Not fair, not fair. It's almost not fair because it's the 20th anniversary of foiled, so know calling you in the lead and then. And then.
Justin Furstenfeld
Then what is it?
Rod Ryan
No. Into the ocean.
Mo
Into The Ocean has 43 of the votes. Hate Me is in third.
Rod Ryan
But they hear those songs on this station.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah, yeah.
Rod Ryan
You know what I mean?
Justin Furstenfeld
So you guys are great.
Rod Ryan
Calling you that would be special. That would be special. Good morning, Justin.
Justin Furstenfeld
Good morning, my friend.
Rod Ryan
Good morning, Ryan. Hello. Hello, Ryan. Thanks for getting up early. I don't know if I'm awake yet.
Mo
Neither are we.
Rod Ryan
And I. And I'm just gonna get. I'm just going to let everybody know that Ryan's got a violin.
Mo
I see it, I ask questions and
Rod Ryan
Justin's got a guitar.
Mo
What does that mean?
Rod Ryan
So I threw it out there and I'm just like, listen, I know it's early. I hate asking people to perform in the morning, but maybe you guys will do a song for us later.
Justin Furstenfeld
I would absolutely adore doing the song. And I was like, I got to bring Ryan. If he wants a song, I got to bring Ryan. Because I'm sick of Ryan not being here.
Mo
I thought you got roped into this.
Rod Ryan
We need you, Ryan.
Justin Furstenfeld
Genius, man.
Rod Ryan
He's a genius and promised me a bunch of stuffs.
Mo
The truth will come.
Rod Ryan
But I follow you on your socials and stuff. Are you making violins now? I don't make the violins. I do all of the exterior decorations on them. I wrap the violins. But yes, they are my line of violin. Okay, so you have your line of violins, but then you are like making your wood. You're lathing or what are you doing?
Justin Furstenfeld
Yes.
Rod Ryan
I've never said it that way, but yes. Lathing. You're a lather. This is a byproduct of COVID I. You know, everybody had time in Covid. So I went out and I bought a wood lathe. Yeah. And I turn wooden bowls and it's been amazing. It's a great way to decompress and. And then I just started selling them. Made a website and so if you go to ryandelahusy.com it's there for you to see. Did you learn under somebody or did you. You self taught. YouTube. That's it, right.
Mo
Loves a YouTube university.
Rod Ryan
You can either doom scroll or you can learn something. Right? Yeah. So. And you're lathing laving. Like you just.
Justin Furstenfeld
That's hot.
Rod Ryan
Try not to lose fingers. Eyeballs, dude. Yeah. It's funny the, the equipment that you have to wear. I never thought about it.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah, well, sounds so smooth.
Rod Ryan
We, we had a big enough announcement that we announced that those, those blue Christmas shows. You guys are back. I think this is maybe the third year at 713 now.
Justin Furstenfeld
It's great.
Rod Ryan
It's a great. It's a great venue. It sounds so great. You guys sound great there. Everybody kind of sounds great.
Justin Furstenfeld
You're always there too.
Rod Ryan
I am There. Well, those shows are great. My daughter, she's been to a couple of buzzfests. That was her first real, like, rock concert experience, like, going to somewhere to a concert, and she. She just completely lost her mind, you know, seeing you guys last year. So, of course, you know, we got to go again this year. The shows are coming up. They're going on sale. There was a pre sale Yesterday, Ticketmaster tomorrow, 10am for the Friday, December 18, and the Saturday, December 19, show. It's 20 years, as a matter of fact. We're coming up. Is any. Are you guys planning anything? April 4th was when Foiled came out, right? 20, 22,006. Wow. So we're 20 years removed from it, and you guys are out celebrating the 20th anniversary of that. Does anything happen on April 4, the actual day that it came out?
Justin Furstenfeld
Well, I'm. I'm actually throwing my son a birthday party on April 4th.
Rod Ryan
Is that his birthday?
Justin Furstenfeld
No, it's. The birthday is April 2nd. So this is the first time I've been in town for his birthday because we've always been on tour.
Rod Ryan
Yeah. Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
So I'm like, this year, soccer pool party. Let's.
Rod Ryan
Anyone can come.
Justin Furstenfeld
All your friends now.
Rod Ryan
I'm like, oh, my God.
Justin Furstenfeld
All the names coming. I'm like, I called my ex. I'm like, you want to help me with this? So it's great, man.
Rod Ryan
Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
We're gonna be over there celebrating 20
Rod Ryan
years that the album's out. You guys are playing the whole album?
Justin Furstenfeld
Yep. Start to finish. We've never done that because remember when Foiled came out, I don't know if it's a big deal, but when Foiled came out, we started touring. It went platinum, and then I. I broke my leg. Right. And I had to go to surgery, and we never could tour for that album because I was in some extreme surgery. So we never got to tour, like, and really celebrate the fact that it went almost double platinum now. And so now we're gonna go out and celebrate 20 years later that, oh, my gosh, this album did so good for us, and it really catapulted us to be able to start a record label, to do our own thing, and to continue touring for all these years.
Rod Ryan
So, Ryan, you have on the wall somewhere, maybe above the lathe. It went quick. It went quick. I got this. So the album comes out April 4th, August 9th, you go gold. How long does it take to get a gold record, like, in your hands after it goes gold? Does it take a while for the record company to. To make those up for you or do they have them ready to go? You know, that's so long ago. I don't remember. It's 20 years, the exact amount of time. But I do remember in la, we received our platinum plaques. The platinum. Okay, so the platinum happens. So gold is 500,000. Platinum is a million. We're in New York.
Justin Furstenfeld
We were in New York when we got the gold.
Rod Ryan
New York. Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
It was weird, man. It was weird because, you know, we. But it was like, back then, it was like. All of a sudden, I just remember Paul going, 20,000 units sold this week.
Rod Ryan
Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
The next week, 21,000 units. He'd call. 22,000 units.
Rod Ryan
And that's. And that's.
Justin Furstenfeld
And I'm like, what does that mean?
Rod Ryan
He's like, your salad, man. So that's Paul. He's a manager. The manager extraordinary. That's. That's his job. Stay out there. All guys. All guys in bands like to pretend that they don't keep an eye on, that they're like, oh, I'm just. I'm just the musician. I'm. I'm the talent. I'm the talent. I don't. I don't worry about that. You guys look at that stuff, huh? It's important.
Justin Furstenfeld
It was crazy. Every week he called me Dirty tails
Rod Ryan
and I screamed, been.
Justin Furstenfeld
And the thing is, is you wait in the next week, you're like, it's gonna go back down. It's gonna go back down. And it was back then, it was like the last season of, like, people buying albums before streaming. 2006 and 2007, people started streaming.
Rod Ryan
Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
So we saw that feeling of an album go. It's climbing. It's climb. It's selling like a million. What? And it just kept going and kept going, all because of the subject matter. Hate me. And into the Ocean was so, so. Oh, it was so hot back then.
Rod Ryan
It was connecting with people.
Justin Furstenfeld
Connecting with people's depression and people's mental. Mental awareness. And. And so when it did that, it was. It was really cool to see it connecting for that reason, where. Not because it was a song about, like, a Corvette or like a hot. You know, it was. It was like, wow, okay, now we can go out there and sing about these.
Rod Ryan
I've seen the documentary. It's all about the nookie. The nookie.
Justin Furstenfeld
30,000 units.
Rod Ryan
Oh, my God. Ryan. Where. Where's. Where's the gold in the platinum records? Where are they? In my studio. They're in the studio. Yep. All my years of photos and fun times and family Members and stuff like that. Right next to my Rolling Stones picture, actually, when we opened. You guys open for the Stones? I remember that.
Alex
Sorry.
Rod Ryan
Direct support. Poor Justin was in a wheelchair. I've always been told that the Stones are pretty gracious at least. Maybe even Mick or Keith. They'll just. They'll at least walk. They know who they are. They know who's op. They know who's opening for them, and they'll at least walk in and say hi. Did they do that? They were super sweet. Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
And who came in?
Rod Ryan
All of them.
Justin Furstenfeld
All of them.
Rod Ryan
All of them came in.
Justin Furstenfeld
I'll tell you. When I shook his hand. The guitarist.
Rod Ryan
Ronnie Wood?
Justin Furstenfeld
No, the other one.
Rod Ryan
Oh, Keith.
Justin Furstenfeld
Keith shook his hand. I went to shake his hand, and it was like he had these fingers that were only this long. So when I shook his hand, it was like shaking this tiny hand, like
Rod Ryan
a frail old man.
Justin Furstenfeld
Frail old man's tiny little hand. And I shook, and I was like, that was weird. But then I remember, like, watching him play. He's a messy guitarist like me. He was not like a.
Rod Ryan
Like David Gilmore. Sloppy.
Justin Furstenfeld
He's sloppy. And I loved it. I was like, why is he so sloppy? But that's how I play. I'm a stunt guitarist. I know what I'm doing. Right? But he's just like that. But he just doesn't care. So when I shook his hand, I was like, oh, he got little fingers, bro. But Mick Jagger was so kind.
Rod Ryan
They were nice.
Justin Furstenfeld
So kind. And everybody was so nice. Everybody was so nice.
Rod Ryan
Okay, so the biggest band he ever opened up for. Rolling Stones. Second biggest band you ever shared the stage with. Kiss. Kiss. I'd have.
Justin Furstenfeld
Okay. Kiss. STP was so huge.
Rod Ryan
With Chester.
Justin Furstenfeld
No, with Scott Wheeler.
Rod Ryan
God. Okay.
Justin Furstenfeld
When he was going in and out of. You know, we played a lot of shows with them back then, so it was really cool to see how much of a frontman that guy was and how just he had his hand on 30,000 people, and you could make them do anything. Kiss was great, but Scott had that. Like, he could own the crowd. Kiss was lights and beautiful, and it was fun. Legendary Scott had a way with crowds that he could just have them in his hand.
Rod Ryan
But you also played with Chess. Tp. Oh, bro. That's when you got a chance. We started, and I know you guys got a chance to meet Chester. And that's me meeting Chester with Stone Temple Pilots. And that's.
Justin Furstenfeld
He's the one that introduced me to Chester.
Rod Ryan
There's a very famous photograph of you in the hallway shaking his hand. Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
I get chills. H. Yeah.
Rod Ryan
Then the next time you came back after Chester had passed, you wore a Chester jacket. I mean, there's. That's almost its own documentary.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah, it was a special, special stuff, man.
Rod Ryan
Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
And. And. And real quick, just to. To lighten it a little bit, the last time we played with Marilyn Manson here.
Rod Ryan
Yes.
Justin Furstenfeld
I want to let y' all know that my daughter was like a Barbie. Dude took her to that show. Okay, okay, let's talk about this for a second. I've seen her to the show.
Rod Ryan
I seen the transformation.
Justin Furstenfeld
She stood out there and she goes, I love this. And that day, she transformed from this cute little girl into black lipstick. Black lipstick. She's one of us.
Mo
She's one of us.
Justin Furstenfeld
Us. And now I'm taking her to Atlanta for her birthday to see Marilyn Manson. Rob Zombie. Wow. And that's all she wants, man. She's one of us. Rod, you did that.
Rod Ryan
Rod.
Justin Furstenfeld
Rod.
Rod Ryan
He's not joking at all. There was an absolute. The last change, bro. When I saw your daughter at Buzzfest, and then when I saw your daughter backstage.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
We saw her just black. There's a chain. There's some sort of a chain hanging from. From the side of the leather everything thing just. You were. Marilyn Manson did that.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah, she is. Sushi and the Banshees. Now she looks like that, which is so cool, man.
Rod Ryan
Ryan, I saw your kids there. Are they okay? Are they all right? My kids are fine. Yeah. My kids are not into music. My daughter, she loves music. She listens to it. But they are zero interest in being musicians.
Justin Furstenfeld
No kidding.
Rod Ryan
My son's baseball. Dirt bikes. We were talking about dirt bikes. Volleyball and basketball. And now my daughter's in choir, and she loves it, and she's in theater. And so I think maybe there's something there. But they're just having fun. They're just being kids.
Mo
Kids are.
Justin Furstenfeld
You should see his son when he's pitching. He's got that eye.
Rod Ryan
Oh, yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
And he called me from the doctor's office the other day while I was on my open book tour. He called me and he's like, hey, I'm in the doctor. I'm like, what happened? Because I'm checking my leg out. My son drilled me with a ball, and he had this, like, strawberry on his left. He know. He loved it.
Rod Ryan
He was like, I got. Dad.
Alex
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
For all the times you told me to clean my room. That's right. Sorry, sorry, sorry. That one got away from me, dad. Sorry about that. It wasn't on Purpose. Listen, I gotta take a break. I think you have played Read My Lips with us once before.
Justin Furstenfeld
I love reading my lips. I love reading Alex's lips.
Rod Ryan
You're gonna play me? Leave me. I was told you were down to play, Justin.
Justin Furstenfeld
I'm down.
Rod Ryan
Okay.
Justin Furstenfeld
Down to lathe.
Rod Ryan
All right. We're gonna. We're gonna.
Mo
We're gonna play Read My Lips Never changed me.
Rod Ryan
We're gonna figure out who's gonna play Read My Lips and it is to win Blue October tickets. So I'll. I'll explain everything. I'll explain everything on the flip. But we're hanging out. There's Ryan, there's Justin. We're talking Blue October this whole hour and they are gonna play for us later on. So stick around. Houston's Rock, Houston's Alternative. And the Rod Ryan morning show. The buzz. 94. 5 the buzz. Good morning, Rod Ryan show. Thank you guys so much for hanging with us. We got October. We have Ryan and Justin in the studio with us.

Rod Ryan

Justin Furstenfeld
Yes.
Rod Ryan
There's Alex right there.
Justin Furstenfeld
Hottie, batty Alex with those eyes.
Mo
Oh, great. Now he has to talk.
Rod Ryan
Justin loves your eyes.
Justin Furstenfeld
Alex. Lathe me.
Rod Ryan
What? What's trending?
Alex
It's been training all day. Opening day is trending. Astros are gonna worry about your Yankees hat there. Hey, they're one and all. You best team baseball right now technically, because no one else has played 310 against the Angels today.
Rod Ryan
Here's your first challenge.
Alex
Yeah, well, you gotta lose some before you win them, right?
Rod Ryan
That's true. That's true.
Alex
Harry Potter's trending. They put out a new trailer for the HBO series is coming out and I see a lot of people bitching about it. It. So that's probably why it's trending. And then Sweet 16 is trending. That starts to play the first four of the eight Sweet 16 games tonight. U of H will play the last game of the evening. That's what's trending on 94. 5 the buzz.
Rod Ryan

Justin Furstenfeld
Feel my eyes. All right, I'm going to embarrass you right now.
Rod Ryan
Show them how. Come to my office, bro. That's what I heard.
Justin Furstenfeld
That's what I heard.
Rod Ryan
Now, Ryan, I just want you to know, my ref, when Chile is. Well, I'm just saying. I'm. I'm apologizing already for the things that
Mo
are going to come out of this mouth.
Rod Ryan
For the things that are to come out of his mouth standing up. My boy's wearing an Astros jersey, man. Everything's good. Yeah, but I can say, like, the word might be ketchup, and he'll say ham titty. Like, I won't know. That's what I would have guessed. It's not just me, Rod. A lot of people think of a ham titty. Yeah, he thinks everything I say looks like ham titty for some reason. All right. Are you putting the headphones on?
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
You ready to go? Let's rock. All right, here we go.
Justin Furstenfeld
I'm Watching you, bro.
Rod Ryan
Now, all the listeners submitted these words all morning long, so. And it's different every week. All right, Chili can no longer hear my voice now. So these are the words that people submitted.
Mo
Do we know who we have on the line on the phone?
Rod Ryan
Must apologize, bro. Not really.
Justin Furstenfeld
Quick, I become a total different person.
Rod Ryan
Hey, Stephanie. Good morning. I like that. Good morning, Stephanie. Who's playing for you today? Philly Chili's playing for you, Stephanie.
Mo
Team Chili. Okay, got it.
Justin Furstenfeld
Okay.
Rod Ryan
And then. Then, oddly enough. Wait a minute. Oddly enough, on the other line is another Stephanie. Hey, Other. Other Stephanie. Good morning. Hi.
Mo
Good morning.
Rod Ryan
Hi, Stephanie, Justin's playing for you today. Good luck. Oh, awesome. Okay. I don't know.
Mo
I'm gonna make her Other Stephanie.
Rod Ryan
Stephanie R. And Stephanie D. Okay. Okay.
Mo
Justin got the D. Justin's got.
Rod Ryan
Wait a minute. Wait a minute. That's mo, everybody.
Justin Furstenfeld
I was gonna say it, but you
Rod Ryan
said, good to see you. All right, Chili's on the clock.
Mo
20 seconds.
Rod Ryan
You get 20 seconds, right? He gets 20 seconds. He's got three words. He's gonna try to get Three words right. 20 seconds. Mo is timing. Here we go. As soon as I say the word, you start timing. Here we go. Michelle sent this word in. Thumbs up.
Justin Furstenfeld
No, I've been ready.
Rod Ryan
Fool. Got it. Here we go. Polish wiener. Bonus wiener. Polish wiener. Boldage. Polish wiener. Cabbage. Polish wiener. Polish winner. Polish wiener.
Justin Furstenfeld
I don't know what this.
Rod Ryan
Look. Polish wiener. Polish wiener. Polish wiener. Wiener. Didn't get it. Wiener. Oh, my gosh.
Mo
He was, like, right there.
Rod Ryan
We were right there.
Alex
We were so close.
Rod Ryan
Yeah. The first answer was. Ham titty.
Mo
Yes.
Justin Furstenfeld
Ham titty.
Rod Ryan
Wiener. Polish wiener. I was trying to help you.
Justin Furstenfeld
What was that? What? By pointing at your.
Mo
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
All right, that's one down.
Mo
Okay.
Alex
One down.
Mo
20 seconds, back on the clock.
Justin Furstenfeld
You're doing good, Chili.
Rod Ryan
No, he's not.
Alex
All right.
Rod Ryan
All right, here we go. Michelle sent this one in. That was. Oh, that was Jingle Blake. Okay. All right. Thumbs up.
Justin Furstenfeld
Thumbs up.
Rod Ryan
20 seconds on the clock. Dr. Pepper. Dr. Pimple. Dr. Pepper. Dr. Pepper. Yeah.
Mo
Knife.
Rod Ryan
What's up now, homie?
Justin Furstenfeld
All right, homie.
Mo
Why Dr. Pepper? Why do you send that one in?
Rod Ryan
I don't know. Did we talk about Dr. Pepper?
Mo
I won't make.
Rod Ryan
So sometimes people will send in words that. Silly things that have come up on the show.
Mo
Weird word that comes out of our mouths.
Rod Ryan
Maybe it. I don't know where this came from. All right, I'm in a. Alex.
Alex
One more.
Rod Ryan
One more word, Thomas. Okay, this definitely is, like. Justin would know what the hell we're talking about? Thumbs up. Let's rock. Pie thrust. Pie thrust. Hey, well, well, well. First try, bro.
Alex
We got like.
Mo
Yeah, that was crazy.
Rod Ryan
You guys saw the movie American Pie?
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah. So, yeah, we had a song in that movie.
Rod Ryan
He thrust. Were you on the soundtrack?
Justin Furstenfeld
Calling you was on that soundtrack. You're kidding me.
Rod Ryan
Yeah. Car driving.
Justin Furstenfeld
You could barely hear it.
Rod Ryan
It was awesome. Talking about it. They couldn't. They couldn't, like. That's it.
Mo
Talking about it.
Alex
That's it.
Rod Ryan
They couldn't get an R rating with three thrusts into the pie. So if he thrusted twice into the pie, they got the R rating. So they had to. They had to edit it.
Mo
Edit the thrust.
Rod Ryan
So pie thrust. Pie thrust. Okay, no pressure.
Mo
Justin.
Rod Ryan
Justin Furenfeld is going to be. Now you be your work.
Justin Furstenfeld
I take these off and put on the.
Rod Ryan
Yes, yes, you take those off. It's very loud song jamming right now.
Justin Furstenfeld
It is.
Alex
It's good.
Justin Furstenfeld
So when you. When you're ready, you're going to go like that.
Mo
Thumbs up.
Rod Ryan
I'll go thumbs up. And then you'll have 20 seconds.
Mo
Thank you. I'm glad he's reacting the way he's reacting.
Rod Ryan
Is it Freebird? Yeah. You guys are not listening to.
Mo
Traumatized by the noise.
Rod Ryan
All right, here we go. All right, he can't hear me anymore. Here comes Justin from Blue October. 20 seconds on the clock. He needs one to tie. Two to one win. Dude, he's focus. All right, here we go. Chris sent this one in. Thumbs up. Okay. Morning wood.
Justin Furstenfeld
Pony boy.
Rod Ryan
Morning wood. Morning wood.
Justin Furstenfeld
Pony.
Rod Ryan
Morning wood.
Justin Furstenfeld
Roy.
Rod Ryan
Morning wood.
Justin Furstenfeld
Pony broad way.
Rod Ryan
Morning wood. Morning wood. Time. Time. Boom. No pony boy, man.
Justin Furstenfeld
I'm pretty sure Roy has morning wood.
Rod Ryan
Absolutely morning wood. He's got his hands up.
Mo
Got focus.
Alex
Stay golden, po boy.
Rod Ryan
Stay golden.
Justin Furstenfeld
I see why you're good at this. I love you, Cherry. I have a new respect. Am I yelling right now?
Rod Ryan
All right, 20 seconds.
Mo
20 seconds.
Rod Ryan
Thumbs up. Guitar pick. Guitar pick.
Justin Furstenfeld
Ishock.
Rod Ryan
Men. Guitar pick.
Justin Furstenfeld
Talk.
Rod Ryan
Men. Guitar e. Guitar pick.
Justin Furstenfeld
Ethong. Men.
Rod Ryan
Guitar. He's on, man. Guitar pick.
Justin Furstenfeld
What was it?
Rod Ryan
You're fired. Guitar pick. Turn in your microphone.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah, you.
Rod Ryan
Yeah, one more. One more.
Justin Furstenfeld
Please, God, please leave me.
Rod Ryan
I'm showing. I'm showing Ryan the word.
Mo
What it is.
Rod Ryan
Here we go. Okay, 20 seconds on the clock.
Justin Furstenfeld
Come on.
Rod Ryan
Needs this to tie. Chile. Thumbs up. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mo
Chili got two, right? Chili got two.
Justin Furstenfeld
He got nothing.
Rod Ryan
Some guy by the. Already lost. Oh, you got two.
Alex
Oh, yeah.
Mo
It's okay.
Rod Ryan
All right.
Justin Furstenfeld
Hey, what.
Rod Ryan
What team are you on, bro? Okay. Not yours. Rod sent us in.
Mo
Okay. Oh, Rod.
Rod Ryan
Dirt room. Dirt room. Took broken dirt.
Justin Furstenfeld
Shook dirt room. Groping, groping. Something's groping.
Rod Ryan
Dirt room. Shook, Groping. Dirt room.
Justin Furstenfeld
Took Josh Groban.
Rod Ryan
Dirt. I don't know.
Justin Furstenfeld
Do we have the.
Rod Ryan
Do we have the. The Wheel of Fortune sound better. We want to. We need that. I sent this word in, right?
Mo
It's hard.
Rod Ryan
You're done. There was nothing like that. Dirt room.
Justin Furstenfeld
Josh Gro.
Rod Ryan
Pony Boy. Pony Boy. Oh, I got. Chili won.
Alex
Way to go, Chili.
Rod Ryan
That's Stephanie R. Stephanie R. Congratulations. Congratulations. Stephanie, you still there? Yes. You got the tickets? Blue October.
Mo
You'll be there the first night. So we'll see you December 18th, 713 Music Hall. It's gonna be awesome. Stephanie, we can't wait to have you.
Rod Ryan
I can't wait. All right. Great job. Thank you so much. Hang on the phone. I'll say good job for both players. Good job for both players. Kind of a good job for both players. I'm sorry. I'm trying to enunciate for you. I'm trying. Josh Groban. Dirt room. Come on, Josh Groban. All right, let me take a break. Let me take a break. We're gonna come back. We got Houston's headlines, and then we're gonna see if we get these instruments going. Yes, sir. Can we get instruments involved? Got an announcement. Oh, and we have an announcement. Yes, we'll do that at 9. The announcement night. Radio Wizard. Like, dude announcement. Okay. Announcement. Instruments. More. With Blue October, Ryan and Justin in studio. Houston's Rock, Houston's alternative and home of
Mo
the Rod ryan Morning Show. 94. 5 the Buzz.
Rod Ryan
94. 5 Ryan show live on the Shell Federal Credit Union Beat show on Facebook, YouTube, and all our social media channels from 94. 5 the Buzz. I guess we pay a guy to say that. Hi. Good morning, Rod Ryan's show. Just what that Guy said. It's 94.5 buzz. We got special guests in studio. We got Ryan, and he brought any difference between a violin and a fiddle? It's just where you're bored, right? Same thing. Really how you play it. Are you going to play that for us this morning? Yes, yes, yes. Okay. We got Ryan, we got Justin. They're going to play in about five minutes. Five, six minutes. So if you got to loosen up that lumber, whatever you got to do over there. Ryan, I need you to bring Chili back in here.
Mo
He's running.
Rod Ryan
All right. So they're gonna perform right at 9 o' clock and I don't know, they kind of been talking amongst each other. I don't know what they're gonna do. But that's coming up. But right now, I got mo with Houston's headlines.
Mo
What's up, Rob? Thank you. Good morning. We know that Iran says the straight of Hormuz is open only to ships from countries it doesn't consider any enemies is what they're saying. The United nations is like. Actually, we've got around 20,000 sailors that are stuck in the Persian Gulf because of closures. Okay. So breaking this morning, NBC News is reporting that Israel says they killed the Iranian naval chief who was overseeing the blocking of all of that. He might be dead. Could it be opening? What's going on? We're following very, very busy day across the city of Houston. Means traffic problems for everyone for a good chunk of the day. It all kicked off at 4am when they closed everywhere around Memorial park for the golf situation. We know that downtown we've got opening day at Dyken park. Then the Sweet 16 game is at Toyota Center. But also with that comes the NCAA fan fest at the George R. Brown. Good luck. Okay. Just be prepared. Young couples would rather take engagement trips than buy engagement judgment rings. That's what the new survey is.
Rod Ryan
Kids, kids, kids. Gen Z.
Mo
Yes.
Rod Ryan
They want experiences. They're not so worried about stuff.
Mo
The physical thing is what they're gonna pass on.
Rod Ryan
I still have not yet met a chick that doesn't want a ring. Like a big old fat diamond ring. An engagement ring.
Mo
Right.
Rod Ryan
I don't know that person either.
Alex
Is there such happens they want both.
Rod Ryan
Oh, geez. That the trip you want the engagement trip.
Justin Furstenfeld
Me a ring too.
Mo
That's okay.
Rod Ryan
Yeah. My wife said that I don't need a ring. I was like, you don't have a ring. Whatever. It's a trap. Whatever.
Justin Furstenfeld
No marriage.
Mo
We like a vacation maybe. There's a lot of alternates for the big diamond that we used to crave.
Rod Ryan
What is an alternate for a diamond
Mo
now you get like a fake one.
Justin Furstenfeld
Really?
Mo
Yeah. Or like a lab grown option.
Justin Furstenfeld
It's a lab grown.
Rod Ryan
That's a thing now, dude.
Mo
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
Diamonds.
Justin Furstenfeld
Like it's a thing now, dude.
Rod Ryan
Dude, it's a thing.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
They were calling them piss, but they weren't moving any unit, so they said they were lab grown.
Mo
All right. In sad news, Savannah Guthrie appearing on the Today show today and tomorrow. She sat down for an interview with her girl Hoda and previews of the clip. I haven't seen the actual interview this morning, but the previews were devastating. She said she wakes up in the middle of every night just thinking about her mom, thinking about what her mom went through when she was being abducted. She's trying to communicate in this interview just how unbearable the agony is that her family is experiencing. And then Hoda comes back after the interview and she's like, changed. It was rough.
Rod Ryan
Wow.
Mo
It's airing today and tomorrow on the Today Show.
Rod Ryan
All right. We got that new Sublime song.
Mo
We do have that. Are we gonna play it? They just announced their release of their first album in nearly 30 years. It is their first album with Bradley Noel's son Jacob as the front man.
Rod Ryan
It's unbelievable how much he sounds like his dad. So did you get a chance to get talk to the kid when he was at the 20th anniversary show?
Justin Furstenfeld
I didn't get a chance to talk to him there. I talked to him at another show that we did.
Rod Ryan
You did see him.
Justin Furstenfeld
This kid's great.
Rod Ryan
He's awesome.
Justin Furstenfeld
I'm just so impressed that he's doing this and that he's carrying on the leg, the legacy, you know?
Rod Ryan
Yeah. He didn't know his dad. His dad died shortly after he was born. So it's 30 years now.
Justin Furstenfeld
But listen to how he sounds.
Rod Ryan
It's crazy.
Justin Furstenfeld
Just like him.
Rod Ryan
What are you doing with this wizard?
Mo
Wizard?
Rod Ryan
He's got his hands up.
Mo
He doesn't know until the sun explodes. Set for release July 12th.
Rod Ryan
It's good. Wow. It's better than. It's better than Ensenada.
Justin Furstenfeld
It is.
Mo
Okay. Those are Houston's headlines.
Rod Ryan
Astro's opening day Alex. Yeah.
Alex

You're jamming your favorite song, and while you aren't missing a beat, you could be missing a signal from your box. It's an SOS from your kidneys and it doesn't sound like music at all. It's silent. High blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and other risk factors can quietly stress the kidneys, leading to negative impacts on the heart. That's why you should ask your doctor about a simple urine test called uacr. Most miss the signal for hidden kidney disease and related heart risk. Justin Furstenfeld
I remember you saying that you like the song Bleed Out.
Rod Ryan
It's my favorite.
Justin Furstenfeld
So we're gonna play that for you.
Rod Ryan
You're kidding me.
Justin Furstenfeld
Wow.
Rod Ryan
Oh, God. It's my favorite Blue October song.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah. Yeah, we're gonna do it. We'll do it for you, daddy.
Rod Ryan
All right, bro. Listen, guys. It's Blocktober live in studio. Take it away.
Justin Furstenfeld
Close my eyes, feel your sigh A desperate, aching wonder Will you ever

let
Justin Furstenfeld
me off my knees? I'm wide awake like a dream as simple as a secret being told it told to everyone but me well, I bleed oh, I gave it all but you can't stop taking from me and way down I know you know where to cut me with your eyes closed bleed out it won't be long till the heart stops beating so don't let me bleed out here all alone Hear my plead, Hear my plea. The sudden rain coming down it all comes back to me Waking up, falling down. Another day it calms undone and I keep trying to heal your pain in return you cut me over and over but one more time and I will
Rod Ryan
bleed out
Justin Furstenfeld
I gave it all, you can't stop taking from me way down I know you know when you better cut me with your eyes closed bleed
Mo
out
Justin Furstenfeld
it won't be long till the heart stops beating so don't let me bleed out here all alone. I finally feel like I'm supposed to be here. Don't you take this moment away from me but before you kill me Won't you look back in my eyes and watch me bleed out? I gave it all, you can't stop taking from me Way down I know you cut me with your eyes closed bleed out it won't be long till the heart stops beating don't let me bleed out here alone Hear my plea, My plea. Don't let me bleed out here alone Hear my plea.
Rod Ryan
Come on.
Justin Furstenfeld
Thank you, Mr. Ryan Del Husi on the violin. There you go. That's the boy. That's the man right there.
Rod Ryan
I. I was standing next to your manager, Paul, the last time I saw you guys, and I. Ryan, when you hit that violin, it just. It sets your band apart from everybody.
Justin Furstenfeld
My nipples get hard.
Mo
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
You know what? I went from six to noon.
Justin Furstenfeld
My nipples get really hard.
Rod Ryan
It just. It sets it apart. It is such a beautiful instrument. But to be used, the way that you utilize it and the way that it mixed in right there. Ryan, it was so beautiful. Thank you. And your voice was pretty good, too. For my money, that's. That's the best Blue October song that.
Justin Furstenfeld
I appreciate that. Nobody ever asked for that song. And when he told me Rod's favorite songs, bleed Out, I was like, well,
Rod Ryan
why anybody ever say that?
Alex
Let's roll.
Justin Furstenfeld
Roll with it. I love that song.
Rod Ryan
But, like, right when you're going into the chorus. I just, I'm like, Next time we do it, you got to do it.
Justin Furstenfeld
Phil Collins, bro.
Rod Ryan
So great. And then. And then my second favorite. I tried to. Tried to help you out. I tried to help you out in. What is it called?
Justin Furstenfeld
Josh Groban. Is that what it was?
Rod Ryan
Dirt room. Dirt room.
Justin Furstenfeld
That looks like Josh Groban.
Rod Ryan
What?
Alex
It looks like Josh Groban.
Rod Ryan
There's something that is on your website right now@blueoctober.com okay. You can buy trips to hang out with you guys right now. Was. Was last year like a pilot program? Was it the first time you had done this?
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah, man. I was like, we're going to go down there. This is going to be like Jimmy Buffett. People are going to be wasted. It's going to be crazy.
Rod Ryan
Cabo San Lucas. Yeah. With Blue October. And you can spend the whole weekend with. With you guys.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
In a pool. It pools.
Alex
Ryan.
Justin Furstenfeld
We couldn't get Ryan out of the pool to play the show.
Rod Ryan
So. Ryan. Who else is in. Who else is in the. The. The hotel? It's just Blocktober fans. It's just fans that buy these trips. Yeah. Or wins a trip. Or wins. Hang on. What was that? So it's called into the ocean with Blue October. It's in Cabo San Lucas. Yeah. And what you can do is you can buy these trips right now. There's a few still available@blueoctober.com we have one that we're going to give away on this radio station and on this radio show. We're going to start, I believe on Monday, April 6th. What we're going to start doing is once a. Once a day we've teamed up with Willy's Grill and Ice House. Once a day we're gonna give away a Willy's Grill and Ice House 100 gift card. That person will be qualified for the grand prize drawing for an all expense paid food, air, the resort, the whole thing. You're hanging out four nights now. You guys can't put on a four. You got. You guys can't play four concerts back to back to back. How do you do that? What? Like, it's pretty amazing.
Justin Furstenfeld
We play three concerts back to back and the first night is like a meet and greet.
Rod Ryan
Okay.
Justin Furstenfeld
We all get there and we sit back and we have this huge screen on this beach. It's like a really small place. And all we do is play all of our. Our films, our videos, everything. And we sit back with these people, have dinner. We go from table to table and Watch all these videos.
Rod Ryan
Like, it's crazy.
Justin Furstenfeld
30 something videos, 40 something videos. And. And we just celebrate the fact that we've all kind of found each other in this kind of, you know, black sheep of fan that we are.
Rod Ryan
Did I see you marry somebody?
Justin Furstenfeld
I married. Like, did you marry remarry? Yeah. I said, hey, because I got my. My buddy wanted me to marry him. So I got my license a while back.
Rod Ryan
I did, too, online. And I'm like, let's roll.
Justin Furstenfeld
I can do this. And then. Then I had a friend in Nashville that wanted to also get married. So I was like, I. I'd like to marry one person or Universal Life Church, right? That's what.
Rod Ryan
We got our license.
Justin Furstenfeld
So all of a sudden, all these people start signing up, and it became this really beautiful thing. Because once I was marrying people like, butterflies. They had, like, a butterfly thing. All these butterflies are flying by sunsets. And I'm like, going, I have asked for this this morning for you. This is what getting married with Justin Fersen feels like. Speedo. I'm standing there with my chest pubes out.
Rod Ryan
Glorious. We're gonna change it up and do divorce divorces this year. That could be a thing. That could be a thing.
Justin Furstenfeld
It's really beautiful. It's cool, man.
Rod Ryan
Don't get divorced for the guy that got his license on the Internet, okay? You might lose all your crap. You can get married by a guy that got his license on the Internet. You don't want to go through a divorce with a guy that got it from a Cracker Jack box or in the Internet, you know? So. So you can still buy. You can still get in on this trip if you wanted to buy your way in to hang out with you guys. And everybody's hanging out. Like, if you. Like, I'm in the. I'm in the line, and I'm getting, like, snow crab legs. And like, there's. Yeah, there's. There's somebody from Blocktober in the line.
Justin Furstenfeld
What's crazy is Emily, my girlfriend, and I, we. We went down for a swim, and we're just swimming, and everybody's kind of, like, looking at us. And I'm like, why are y', all,
Rod Ryan
like, talking to me?
Justin Furstenfeld
Like, what's going on? Like, so I would swim up to people and be like, spit water in their face. I'm like, hey, what's up?
Alex
There he is.
Rod Ryan
Can we.
Justin Furstenfeld
Wanted to leave you alone.
Rod Ryan
I'm like, but I'm here. Like, what are you talking about? You guys are just walking around and you guys are all hanging out. I'm hanging out in the pool. My big sun hat and my virgin. Everybody's having a great time. They're kind of shocked that you're in the pool with them. But it's like, what's going on? Right? And. And then you go play a concert, but. And we have dinner.
Justin Furstenfeld
But that's what's so cool about it is I think that that's what Blue October's always been different because we're just a Houston band. Band who's always loved and. And just caressed our fans because they are what make us. So when Paul Nugent and my managers were like, let's do this thing where we. Where we buy out a hotel and do it.
Rod Ryan
Did you have to be talked into it or did you immediately say, this is a great idea. Play some shows?
Justin Furstenfeld
Sure.
Mo
I twist my arm.
Justin Furstenfeld
It was a great idea. When I knew that we were going to take over the hotel.
Rod Ryan
Yes.
Justin Furstenfeld
When knew that it was going to be our fans coming there. Because our fans are very different than most fans. They're loving, they're supportive, they're all different. And they're all meeting each other and they become lifelong friends. So when we left, it was kind of sad because it was like a. Like almost like a summer camp that ended. So all the fans were like, this is kind of sad. But it was such a good thing.
Rod Ryan
And you're doing it again. That means you had a good time. That's why you're doing it again.
Justin Furstenfeld
I mean, you're sitting there playing at night with these Christmas lights and ships passing by and the wind's blowing and people are just. It's spiritual, bro. It's so amazing.
Rod Ryan
Boat drinks. Is there like umbrellas and drinks? Yes. Okay. So you can buy these. We are going to start on Monday, April 6. Once a day, we're going to get somebody qualified for the entire month, and then we're going to give away a grand prize to go. This is going to make its way online soon? Hopefully. Yes. Gonna be online soon.
Alex
And scuba there. Wizard.
Rod Ryan
There's a little scuba there. Let me tell you. I went.
Justin Furstenfeld
He went last year. Let me tell you about him.
Rod Ryan
Last year, Radio Wizard.
Justin Furstenfeld
That's a whole nother show.
Rod Ryan
That's a whole nother show. But let me say the thing about this, so special about the trip, so proud of you. Is that last year.
Justin Furstenfeld
Thank you very much.
Rod Ryan
You don't bring sand to the beach.
Alex
So.
Rod Ryan
So the access to the band is. It is. It's wild. They're everywhere. They're meeting, they're walking, they're mixing and mingling. When it's time, showtime. You just walk up to the beach. You don't have to like give a ticket or anything. The whole resort's there. So there's Justin at the meal line. It's like, it's fantastic. Oh, the soundtrack access is unbelievable. You guys are so present. You know, I'm sitting there swimming with Jeremy and Ryan and Matt. That's awesome. It was great, man. But listen, all expenses paid. I drank Justin's share. He doesn't drink.
Justin Furstenfeld
I don't drink, so he drank my share.
Rod Ryan
Oh, I'll drink. I carried him like.
Justin Furstenfeld
Like Jesus carries people.
Rod Ryan
I carried him. There was one set of footprints.
Justin Furstenfeld
It was mine. Cuz Elliot couldn't walk.
Rod Ryan
This might be the only place in Mexico that I'm still allowed to go where it's all inclusive. I'll put a hurting on you. All right. I just wanted to clear up one thing and then I'm going to let you guys go because I know you got to fly. You're out, you're touring, you're playing the Foiled album. What does that mean for a concert? What is. There's a ton of tracks on. On that. I mean, 13th floor balcony. There's some girl online, she's like, oh my God, I'm going to see these guys five times in Toronto. They never play this song. And she's so excited because you're playing every track.
Justin Furstenfeld
Every track. We're starting it from the beginning of the album and we're playing the full album. Even the Ghost track is just 18th floor balcony.
Rod Ryan
That's all right.
Justin Furstenfeld
We're playing all 15 songs from that album.
Rod Ryan
Okay.
Justin Furstenfeld
And then we'll walk off. Ryan will go pee because he pees. I have to, you know, and then we'll come back on stage and we'll play our hits and some of the other fan favorites. But it is literally we've never played Foiled from start to finish because we never got the tour for it.
Rod Ryan
Have you rehearsed it yet?
Justin Furstenfeld
No.
Rod Ryan
When do you start?
Justin Furstenfeld
We start rehearsing in three weeks at my studio.
Rod Ryan
Will you run through the whole album back to back to back? Like in real time?
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah. And what's crazy is these days people use a lot of tracks and stuff and some of our newer stuff, we use a lot of tracks and. And with beats and stuff.
Rod Ryan
World.
Justin Furstenfeld
There's no tracks. It's just band plugs in. You play it's acoustic guitar, guitar, violin, mandolin, bass, drums. There's no tracks.
Rod Ryan
He's Making me do a lot of work.
Justin Furstenfeld
So he's actually gonna have to play this tour.
Rod Ryan
Do you remember. Do you remember all the words to every song?
Justin Furstenfeld
Of course. That's the only thing I remember. You do any song I've ever written. I remember all the words.
Rod Ryan
You remember all your parts or do you have to kind of go back and listen a little bit? That's.
Justin Furstenfeld
That's questionable.
Rod Ryan
Ask me May 1st. Okay.
Alex
All right, fair enough.
Rod Ryan
I'm currently in, you know, figuring it out mode. I gotta go learn my parts that I did originally on the album.
Justin Furstenfeld
But they're. They're really good songs, like really good meaty songs. And there's not a lot of, oh my gosh, we have to have the drums come in here. It's everybody. It's like plugging in with a five piece band and just playing again in a garage like I did in the 90s, you know, so I'm not worried about it because everybody will. Our guitar, guitarist Jeremy, drummer, Matt Noveski. Gorgeous guy, by the way. Ryan, myself. We're good players, so it's going to be fun to be able to actually just play our instruments and just rock
Rod Ryan
out to hear all those songs. I mean, what an album. Yeah. Oh, thank you. What an al.
Justin Furstenfeld
That means a lot for me to say. That is pretty cool, man.
Rod Ryan
Still waiting. Still waiting to be. Hey, you don't belong here, right? Me too. I'm waiting for somebody to go. You know what?
Justin Furstenfeld
You're not actually tired. Talented.
Rod Ryan
Justin and Ryan, thank you guys so much. Thank you. It's always a blessing for you guys to come in. We'll start the whole contest next month.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yes, sir.
Rod Ryan

Justin Furstenfeld
This one you want to hear.
Rod Ryan
That doesn't work with the listeners. When they know I want something, something, they're going to go, let's go the opposite way. So I don't like to say too much, but that's the one that I had put in there for sure today. Am I missing anything? Is that everything?
Justin Furstenfeld
No, man, we love you. We love you too. And we'll be back with new music after that. And we could do our old thing where I come in and play it for you.

The Rod ryan show on 94. 5 Experience adventure into the cosmic unknown. The Buzz or 5 the Buzz Good Morning Rod Ryan show disturbed before that blue October hober and again the guys for coming in today. I'm just now looking at all the emails that were coming through while. While Justin and Ryan were on with us. It was like an hour over. It was well over an hour that they were hanging out with us. So I did not go and look at any of the emails. I I probably should have. Everybody was just freaked out on how great they sounded. I want number one, I think the takeaway takeaway and I'm glad that this is the takeaway, the number one takeaway because the song that they did for us was really beautiful. But how fun they are and how fun and light hearted they are. They cover some pretty heavy content in their songs. You know what I mean? And they could easily be this morose, mopey band and they're not. They're completely the opposite.
Mo
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
You know now I'm not saying there wasn't a time and Justin is pretty honest about that. He was a different guy that like that and he is a pretty, you know, he's more of the I hope you're happy. You know, there was a. There was a mopey, morose time and these guys are just in such a good place and I think from what the, the few emails that I'm going over, it's like, wow, these guys sound like so much fun. That Cabo trip really does sound like a good time. Because Blue October, if you go back pre first foil and even, even the foil years, those guys were not going to go and hang out with their fans at Cabo San Lucas. They weren't. That wasn't the band. Okay. They would go and hang out and you know, at an eyeliner party or something, they weren't gonna go to Cabo. Skyliner, Guyliner. Sorry.
Alex
Let's just say Chapel Run would never do.
Rod Ryan
They're so fun. I'm glad they came across as being fun guys because they really, really are so light hearted and fun and, and the song they did was beautiful. I recorded it. I don't care. I'm like. I'm like so cool. Yeah, yeah.
Mo
I got.
Rod Ryan
I'm like, I hit record. Yeah.
Justin Furstenfeld
You know. Feel your side A desperate aching wonder oh, yeah.
Rod Ryan
I own this now. Justin. Sorry. It's mine. You can't have it back.
Justin Furstenfeld
My knee. I'm wide awake Like a dream as simple as a secret be. Damn.
Rod Ryan
I wish I could sing.
Mo
You'd be dangerous.
Rod Ryan
So effortless. Right? Like he's talking one second and then he's singing and you're like, that's the guy that was just laughing and talking with us. Trying to play Read my Lips and then he's like singing like that. God has favorites. Yeah.
Mo
It's not fair out there.
Rod Ryan
Why don't you like me looking up at the sky? What are you giving away on Mo the show today?
Mo
I have a pair of tickets to God. Smack. They're going to be in the Woodlands on their Rise of the Rock World Tour 2026 with Stone Tumble Pilots and Dorothy on May 30th. You can win a pair of tickets if you know the show.

Justin did great.
Rod Ryan
Yeah. Justin was horrible at that game.
Mo
It was fun.
Rod Ryan
He can sing his ass off. Real nice guy.
Mo
It was really fun to hear someone else play.
Rod Ryan
Flat out sucks at reading my lips.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
Blows.
Alex
He doesn't play that often.
Rod Ryan
But thank you to Justin Ryan, their manager. Paul. All those guys Each guy's better than the next. They're all so nice. New pass. The gravy went up. Yeah.
Alex
We did a mock draft draft of cool baseball names. We talked a lot about baseball. We power ranked the remaining mascots in the sweet 16. Nice. And a lot of other fun stuff.
Rod Ryan
Go check it out. Was Skip a good baseball name? Skip.
Alex
Skip is a good baseball name. That was not one of the ones we picked.
Rod Ryan
Oh, Skip would be great.
Alex
Raleigh Fingers. Catfish Hunter.
Rod Ryan
Oh, yeah.
Alex
Raleigh Fingers.
Justin Furstenfeld
Yeah.
Rod Ryan
Raleigh had the great mustache, too.
Alex
Yeah. Fantastic. Fantastic mustache.
Rod Ryan
Cesar Sandano.
Alex
That would have been a good one, too.
Rod Ryan
It's a good one. Astro. Here comes those drums I was talking about.
Mo

Justin Furstenfeld
Wow.
Mo
Thank you for playing that and for acting it out.
Alex

Mo

You're jamming your favorite song. And while you aren't missing a beat, you could be missing a signal from your body. It's an SOS from your kidneys, and it doesn't sound like music at all. It's silent. High blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and other risk factors can quietly stress the kidneys, leading to negative impacts on the heart. That's why you should ask your doctor about a simple urine test called uacr. Most miss the signal for hidden kidney disease and related heart risk.
