Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is open, but only ships from countries that it doesn't consider enemies. Is it open to.

Okay, who's Iran?

Not an enemy.

The United nations is like, actually, around 20,000 sailors are stuck in the Persian Gulf because of the closure. A shipping analyst says Iran's message is clearly disingenuous, saying Iran has hit neutral ships with no ties to the U.S. or Israel. In breaking news as of two minutes ago, NBC is reporting that Israel says it killed the Iranian naval chief oversaw the blocking of this oil trade route.

[Rod Ryan]

Holy cow.

[Mo]

And I've got goosebumps just reading it. We learned yesterday that the US army is raising the maximum age for new recruits from the age of 35 raised up to the age of 42. The move puts the army more in line with the Air Force, the Navy, which both top out at 41. The army briefly raised the limit to 42 back in 2006 during the Iraq war before they lowered it again. So the timing with everything going on in Iran seems a little coincidental. But officials say the change has been in the works for months and it's not related to what's going on in the Middle East. Super screen time. We're all tracking how much screen time our kids are sucking up.

[Rod Ryan]

Yeah.

[Mo]

And then we have this survey that says 76% of adults will watch two screens at once.

[Rod Ryan]

Alex has three going. Sometimes more. Yeah, but at least three, though. He's got the phone.

Yeah, the three iPads. Have three iPads.

The pad and then the television.

Are you counting? That is like each one gets its own screen time or are they all collectively?

Like, if I'm watching multiple games, that's just one screen. The basketball games last week and I

had multiple iPads going.

I had to watch all. I don't have control of the television in my house anymore.

[Mo]

Bluey. The new survey says the majority of adults admit to looking at their phone while watching a Movie or doing YouTube while on your laptop. It's. It's not unheard of. This survey also, I found interesting. You go a little deeper into it. It talks about how much time you could give up your cell phone.

[Alex]

Are you ever, like on Facebook? And then you just instinctively go to Facebook on your phone. You're like, oh, no, no, no, no. We're already on this.

[Mo]

We can't do Facebook twice.

[Rod Ryan]

Yeah, I get worried about that. You know, kids movies I'm watching with London and then like, I'd rather be on the phone 100%, but I don't because I don't want her to see me doing that.

I know it's hard.

That's the worst way.

You're trying to be better about that.

Yeah, because they're going to see you do it. Like, hey, I learned from watching you

It's a lot. Every tabloid headline is screaming Bachelorette or Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but we know they go together. Taylor. Taylor. Frankie Paul, the star of Mormon Wives, also scheduled to be the season's Bachelorette, currently under a new investigation. Not her alleged third domestic violence incident involving her ex boyfriend.

[Rod Ryan]

Okay, so she's a horrible person. There's more horrible things out there. But what's the cherry on top?

[Mo]

The cherry on top is that the Bachelorette is losing a lot of money. ABC could have to pay Warner Brothers Studios, the producers, anywhere between 50 and 70 million if the show doesn't air. So they're still trying to figure things out. It's a pause. It's not a cancellation.

[Rod Ryan]

[Mo]

season, figuring out how to make it work. The iHeartRadio Music Awards are today. It airs from Fox, 7pm Our time. Also heard on iHeartRadio stations and the iHeartRadio app. Taylor Swift leads the nominations with nine nods. And Ludacris will host once again. He'll also perform on the show. Those are Houston's headlines.

Well, happy opening day, everybody. Happy MLB Opening day. Astros are going to start the regular season this afternoon when they host the Angels at Dyken Park. Hunter Brown is going to be on the mound for this. Drills going up against LA's Jose Soriano. First pitch is going to be at 3:10. They have a ton of stuff going down all around the ballpark before that though, if you want to get there early. If you're going to the game, you can listen to it on our sister station Sports Talk 790. In the NBA, the Rock, no surprise they lost the Timberwolves last night. They lost an OT, but I think they gave up a 150 run in overtime. So it's not great. They've lost four of six in some better basketball, college hoops. The Sweet 16 starts tonight. There are four games on the schedule at 6:10, UT is going to play Purdue. At 6:30. Nebraska takes on Iowa at 8:45, Arizona faces Arkansas and then wrapping up the night at 9:05, saving a special game for everybody. U of H gets to play the 905 game against Illinois. You can watch all the games on cbs, tbs, and True tv. I wonder how many people are going to be making the trek from Astros opening day over to see the Cougs because they're playing in Houston today.

Three years. Last week or the week before. Happy anniversary. Now what do you do right now? Is it time to have a beer and kick back and eat something big or is it time to go to bed? I have this funny routine. As soon as I get off of work, I go straight to, like, my favorite little taco place. I go home, eat it, watch a show, and then go to bed. Like, watch a show? A long show or something small. Half hour, 45 minutes. And then you hit the sack recently? I was watching dead to Me, I don't know if you've ever seen it. Oh, it's on. Netflix is so good man. You need to watch it. Okay, but so it's taco watch something that's your unwind and then you'll go to sleep. So let's say you go to sleep around 7:38. What time do you get up? Around 17, 1600. Go back to work again.

NASA unveiled plans for a bill a $20 billion base on the moon. We don't know when that would be finished if it does get finished. But did you know they're going to try and retire the ISS in 2030? I did not know that until just a second ago when I was reading about this.

No, I didn't hear that.

Yeah, they're going to try and go back to the moon 2028. I learned that. And then 2030 is the plan to retire at least this ISS. I don't know if they build another one. So they're trying to add a moon bas so then you can do other stuff on on there too.

But yeah, pretty sick. A moon base would be badass. And then chapel Roan is Still trending. Her security guard took full responsibility and apologized for making 11 year old girl cry. Even though he may or may not have been told to.

It's what it's called the first album in nearly three decades. Set for release July 12th. They're saying fans can expect to feel a little bit of nostalgia when listening to the project.

NBC News reported that Israel said it had killed the Iranian naval chief who is overseeing the blocking of this crucial oil trade route. Straight of Hormuz. So that's developing still. We learned yesterday that the US army is raising the maximum age for new recruits from 35 to 42. This puts the army more in line with the Air Force and the Navy, which both top out at 41. Back in 2006, during the Iraq war, the army briefly raised the limit to 42 back then. So some are saying that this timing with everything going on in Iran seems to be like a little bit of a coincidence, if you know what I'm saying. But the army says this has been in works for months.

I broke my leg. Right. And I had to go to surgery, and we never could tour for that album because I was in some extreme surgery. So we never got to tour, like, and really celebrate the fact that it went almost double platinum now. And so now we're gonna go out and celebrate 20 years later that, oh, my gosh, this album did so good for us, and it really catapulted us to be able to start a record label, to do our own thing, and to continue touring for all these years.

So, Ryan, you have on the wall somewhere, maybe above the lathe. It went quick. It went quick. I got this. So the album comes out April 4th, August 9th, you go gold. How long does it take to get a gold record, like, in your hands after it goes gold? Does it take a while for the record company to. To make those up for you or do they have them ready to go? You know, that's so long ago. I don't remember. It's 20 years, the exact amount of time. But I do remember in la, we received our platinum plaques. The platinum. Okay, so the platinum happens. So gold is 500,000. Platinum is a million. We're in New York.

We were in New York when we got the gold.

New York. Yeah.

It was weird, man. It was weird because, you know, we. But it was like, back then, it was like. All of a sudden, I just remember Paul going, 20,000 units sold this week.

The next week, 21,000 units. He'd call. 22,000 units.

And that's. And that's.

And I'm like, what does that mean?

And the thing is, is you wait in the next week, you're like, it's gonna go back down. It's gonna go back down. And it was back then, it was like the last season of, like, people buying albums before streaming. 2006 and 2007, people started streaming.

So we saw that feeling of an album go. It's climbing. It's climb. It's selling like a million. What? And it just kept going and kept going, all because of the subject matter. Hate me. And into the Ocean was so, so. Oh, it was so hot back then.

It was connecting with people.

[Justin Furstenfeld]

Connecting with people's depression and people's mental. Mental awareness. And. And so when it did that, it was. It was really cool to see it connecting for that reason, where. Not because it was a song about, like, a Corvette or like a hot. You know, it was. It was like, wow, okay, now we can go out there and sing about these.

I've seen the documentary. It's all about the nookie. The nookie.

She said she wakes up in the middle of every night just thinking about her mom, thinking about what her mom went through when she was being abducted. She's trying to communicate in this interview just how unbearable the agony is that her family is experiencing. And then Hoda comes back after the interview and she's like, changed. It was rough.

Like, what's going on? Like, so I would swim up to people and be like, spit water in their face. I'm like, hey, what's up?

But that's what's so cool about it is I think that that's what Blue October's always been different because we're just a Houston band. Band who's always loved and. And just caressed our fans because they are what make us. So when Paul Nugent and my managers were like, let's do this thing where we. Where we buy out a hotel and do it.

Did you have to be talked into it or did you immediately say, this is a great idea. Play some shows?

It was a great idea. When I knew that we were going to take over the hotel.

When knew that it was going to be our fans coming there. Because our fans are very different than most fans. They're loving, they're supportive, they're all different. And they're all meeting each other and they become lifelong friends. So when we left, it was kind of sad because it was like a. Like almost like a summer camp that ended. So all the fans were like, this is kind of sad. But it was such a good thing.

And you're doing it again. That means you had a good time. That's why you're doing it again.

I mean, you're sitting there playing at night with these Christmas lights and ships passing by and the wind's blowing and people are just. It's spiritual, bro. It's so amazing.

What does that mean for a concert? What is. There's a ton of tracks on. On that. I mean, 13th floor balcony. There's some girl online, she's like, oh my God, I'm going to see these guys five times in Toronto. They never play this song. And she's so excited because you're playing every track.

Every track. We're starting it from the beginning of the album and we're playing the full album. Even the Ghost track is just 18th floor balcony.

We're playing all 15 songs from that album.

So I did not go and look at any of the emails. I I probably should have. Everybody was just freaked out on how great they sounded. I want number one, I think the takeaway takeaway and I'm glad that this is the takeaway, the number one takeaway because the song that they did for us was really beautiful. But how fun they are and how fun and light hearted they are. They cover some pretty heavy content in their songs. You know what I mean? And they could easily be this morose, mopey band and they're not. They're completely the opposite.
