Hey everybody, I'm Dave Rubin and this is first look. It's Thursday, June 18, 2026. We've got a packed show for you today. Elon Musk calls for accountability in Britain's grooming gang scandal as a new independent report raises explosive questions about institutional failures. Hillary Clinton turns on Joe Biden, calling his 2024 re election campaign a terrible mistake and blaming him for democr defeat. Long island serial killer Rex Heuerman receives multiple life sentences after finally admitting responsibility for a string of brutal murders that terrorized New York for decades. Let's dive in. One of the biggest stories in Britain is once again drawing international attention after Elon Musk amplified a newly released independent report examining the country's grooming gang's skill scandal. Musk posted on X that politicians who turned a blind eye to what he described as the rape of Britain should face prison time. His comments came after British Member of Parliament Rupert Lowe released a more than 200 page citizen funded report investigating decades of organized child sexual exploitation across England. The report was authored by barrister Graham Smith and funded through public donations raising roughly $1.1 million from more than 23,000 supporters. That level of public support alone tells a story many ordinary citizens no longer trust government institutions to investigate themselves. The report focuses on notorious cases in towns like Rotherham, Rochdale, Telford, Oxford and Oldham where vulnerable girls were groomed, trafficked, raped and abused by organized groups of Pakistani men. While authorities repeatedly failed to intervene, According to the report, those gangs were able to operate because of what it describes as either active or passive consent from public institutions. Among the recommendations Life imprisonment as the starting point for these abusers Deportation of foreign nationals convicted of group based child exploitation A dedicated prosecution unit focused on grooming gangs Stronger protections for child witnesses Potential private prosecutions against officials accused of failing victims Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the report involves offender demographics. The inquiry argues that Muslim men, particularly men of Pakistani heritage, were disproportionately represented in many grooming gang cases. Critics have challenged parts of the methodology, but even government reviews have acknowledged concerns that authorities often avoided discussing ethnicity for fear of being accused of racism. A government audit conducted by Baroness Louise Casey found serious institutional failures and noted that ethnicity data was missing for a large percentage of offenders. However, her review also concluded that local police data show disproportionate numbers of suspects from Asian ethnic backgrounds in several jurisdictions, warranting further investigation. The British government has now launched a national statutory inquiry with legal powers to investigate institutional failures, possible cover ups and the role of ethnicity, religion and culture in these crimes. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has also announced reviews of hundreds of previously closed cases and plans for tougher reporting requirements and sentencing enhancements. For many conservatives on both sides of the Atlantic, the core question remains how did this happen for so long, and why were so many warnings ignored? And perhaps just as importantly, will anyone in authority ever be held accountable? In a remarkable political reversal, Hillary Clinton is now publicly criticizing former President Joe Biden's decision to to seek reelection in 2024. Speaking with New Yorker editor David Remnick at an event in Manhattan, Clinton didn't mince words. He made a terrible mistake, clinton said. He made a terrible mistake for himself, his legacy and for the country. According to Clinton, Biden should have stepped aside in 2023 and allowed Democrats to hold a competitive primary. She argued that a fresh nominee, whether a governor, senator or then Vice President Kamala Harris, would have defeated Donald Trump in the 2024 election. Clinton said Biden's decision left Democrats facing what she called a terrible dilemma and acknowledged she participated in behind the scenes efforts to convince him to withdraw from the race before he eventually stepped aside. What's particularly striking about these comments is how dramatically they differ from Clinton's previous public statements. Back in 2023, Clinton enthusiastically supported Biden's reelection bid, praising his presidency and declaring she wanted him again. She also predicted he would become the Democratic nominee and win another term. Now, after President Trump's victory, the blame game appears to be in full swing. From a political standpoint, this is a revealing moment. For years, Democrats and much of the media dismissed concerns about Biden's age, stamina and fitness for office. Conservatives repeatedly raised those concerns and were often accused of spreading misinformation. Today, many of the same figures who defended Biden are openly acknowledging what millions of Americans could already see. The Democratic Party continues searching for explanations for its defeat, but Hillary Clinton's comments suggest the internal finger pointing is far from over. A dark chapter in one of America's most notorious serial killer cases came to a close Wednesday as convicted murderer Rex Heuermann was sentenced to multiple life terms in prison. The Long island architect admitted responsibility for the murders of eight women between 1993 and 2010, crimes that shocked New York and remained unsolved for decades. Before sentencing, Heuermann listened as family members of the victims delivered emotional impact statements. When given an opportunity to speak, he offered only a brief statement. There are no words I can say, but I am responsible for what was said today, heuerman told the court. The response did little to impress Suffolk County Judge Timothy Mizet. The judge unleashed a blistering condemnation, calling Heuerman a coward and a disgusting and despicable small man. He questioned whether the killer felt any remorse for the women he strangled to death before ordering him removed from the courtroom. As Heuerman was led away in handcuffs, members of the audience reportedly erupted in cheers. Investigators say most of the murders occurred in a basement kill room inside Heuerman's family home while his wife and children were away. Authorities described a meticulous process in which he planned murders, cleaned crime scenes and disposed of bodies over several days. The breakthrough in the case came after investigators reopened the cold cases in 2022. Heuermann was arrested in 2023 with DNA evidence ultimately linking him to multiple victims. Among those he confessed to killing were the women known as the Gilgo 4, whose disappearances became synonymous with one of America's most haunting unsolved mysteries. He also admitted responsibility for several additional murders spanning nearly two decades. Officials say Heuermann will spend the rest of his life behind bars, largely isolated from the outside world. For the victims families, no sentence can undo the pain. But after decades of unanswered questions, they finally received something many feared would never justice. And that's your first look this Thursday. Quick recap. Elon Musk is demanding accountability as a new report shines a spotlight on Britain's grooming gang scandal and the institutional failures that allowed it to continue for years. Hillary Clinton is Now blaming Joe Biden's 2024 re election campaign for Democrats loss despite previously supporting his bid for a second term. And Rex Heuermann has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting responsibility for eight murders connected to the Gilgo beach serial killer case. We'll keep following all of it. I'm Dave Rubin. Thanks for starting your day with first look. See you tomorrow.
