S Y N ads.com today. All right, everybody, I'm Dave Rubin. This is the Rubin Report. It is Friday, April 10, which means it's time for another Friday roundtable extravaganza. And joining me are two returning Rubin Report all stars. Brandon Tatum of the Officer Tatum show and Dinesh d' Souza of many shows. Although his new one, Dinesh, is the new weekly show. Gentlemen, welcome back to the program.
A
It's a pleasure. Thanks for having us.
B
Dinesh, before we do anything, can you show your glass again? Because you're a serious pundit, you're a very thoughtful guy, do a lot of interesting things, and it looked to me that you were drinking Hawaiian Punch before the show, and I just can't accept that.
A
It's a very exotic cocktail. No alcohol, but it's, it's by and large water with electrolytes, but it's got some nice color to it. So.
B
And Brandon, how are you staying? I'm also doing electrolytes. How you stay in lubricated during the program, man.
A
Oh, my gosh. Yeah.
B
Do any of us have an electrolyte sponsor?
C
Yeah, I own a company that, that does energy drink, sleep drink, stuff like that. So, yeah.
B
All right, well, we'll, we'll talk after the show. All right, guys, so obviously we're good. We're going to recap the week. You know, just another, another week on planet Earth. Obviously a lot of Iran stuff and a very, very shaky ceasefire. But I thought we could just start with something fun. If either one of you can explain this seven second video to me, dinner on me at whatever your fanciest, most expensive restaurant in the United States of America is. Take a look. Deal with the ongoing Genocide of MMIW G2SLGQBIA this is abhorrent. Dinesh, if you can tell me what that acronym is if you can lay out all of those letters in one simple sentence without googling or pausing. Dinner at your restaurant of choice.
A
Oh, man. I think it has something to do with murdered indigenous people. And then, of course, the familiar. You know, lesbian, gay, bisexual. Don't forget the two Spirit. That's the number two. Queer and then bisexual. And then plus. Plus is. I think everybody makes sure everybody else is included. I don't know if I got them all, but maybe I've qualified for dinner
B
minus dessert, soup, and sandwich.
A
Actually, we did pretty close, right?
B
We really just did that so you would say all those crazy things so we could post it without any context. Brandon, do you want to add anything?
C
Oh, no, I have nothing. I thought she was giving away a password or something. I don't know what she was doing. I saw somebody do that. They said it's a strong password. I might use that one day.
B
For the record, Dinesh, you were pretty damn close. You're gonna get. You're gonna get lunch on me. It's missing and murdered indigenous women, girls, and two spirit. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender queer, questioning intersex and asexual. Excuse me for a second.
A
Wow.
B
And now let's do a show. Okay, so let's start with what happened less than a week ago that sort of kicked off the craziness of the week, which was Donald Trump's truth Social post. You all saw it. It was this on last Sunday. A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but probably will. However, now that we have complete and total regime change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen. Who knows? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in a long and complex history of the world. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death will finally end. God bless the great people of Iran. Just quickly, quick correction. That was on Tuesday. So on Sunday, on Easter Day, was the F bomb post that got everybody going crazy. That was before the 8pm deadline. Then, obviously, the ceasefire was announced around 7pm Let me just ask you, at this point, guys, and I think the three of us largely see much of this in a similar lens. But to Ash, let me start with you. Does anything about the Trump bombastic language, the F bomb, the civilization will die, all of this stuff, does any of that bother you at any level at this point? Or do you view it as a strength of his? Or how do you. How do you look at all that stuff.
A
I look at it as a part of the Trump lexicon, the Trump way of talking, which is over the top in some weird way. I think Trump can be seen here as a global real estate guy. And here's what I mean. If you listen to real estate people, they say the most preposterous things. You try to buy an apartment, it's right near a highway, it's extremely loud. They explain to you why this is a real plus, because you can jump right on the highway and get to work, even though you get this deafening sound coming from cars. So real estate people are known for making absurd statements, but if you look at their actions, they're very practical, right? They gotta close deals, they gotta make it work. If you look at Trump's actions going back to 2016, he's pragmatic, he's resourceful, he's bold, he's purposeful. He gets things done that nobody else even thought were on the table. And so I think we've all learned that Trump will say the craziest stuff. I mean, praise be to Allah on Easter Sunday. Now, I can try to parse that and make sense of it. In fact, I did a post on social media relating that to what Elijah said to the prophets, basically mocking them and saying, hey, where's your God? Where is he now? What can he do? You know, is he. Is he taking a walk? Is he. You know, is he. Is he in the bathroom? And you can understand Trump that way, But I don't know if that was what was in Trump's mind.
B
So, Brandon, were you surprised that so many people on the right. It's one thing when the people on the left go apoplectic because he posts something, but so many people on the right, after 10 years of Trump doing all this stuff, genuinely thought World War III was going to kick off at 8pm yeah, no. Or at least we're saying that's what they. I don't know what they genuinely.
C
Yeah, I'm incredibly shocked that people would not see the writing on the wall with Donald Trump at this point. I mean, he say outlandish things ever since he was just doing real estate as a real estate mogul. And I think that it's a big game to Donald Trump. And I feel like every other president either doesn't have a strategy or too cowardice to actually say bold things to get things done. And so when I saw Donald Trump say it, I thought it was wild, right? I said, man, Trump is wild. I mean, somebody steal his phone or did he really say that. But then I real that Donald Trump is strategic. And so of course he's gonna say that. And look at what the response is. I mean, it sounds crazy, but look how they're responding. And I think that they have to contend with. Do they really wanna see Donald Trump actually do the crazy stuff that he's saying? Because I don't think that they see him as a regular president. That's what they would say. Controlled or measured. Donald Trump is radical enough that he probably would do it. And so they don't wanna take that chance. So what do they do? They agreed to a ceasefire. And I know that some people are squeamish and maybe weak to the fact that says things like this, but look, I'm at the point where I'm okay with him saying whatever he thinks he needs to say to get things done. And then, you know, you could cry about it later.
B
Yeah, I agree. I mean, at this point, the guy who's accomplished all of the things that everybody said could never be accomplished, and we want to fight about the language that he has just used for. It's well past. It's a decade in politics, but well past that, as you both pointed out in real estate and everything else. So, of course, what happened? Well, we didn't get World War Three Trump. Right before the 8pm deadline announced, based on conversations with Prime Minister Shabazz Sharif and Field Marshal Aseem Manur of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight in Iran and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to a complete and immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend bombing an attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. I don't have to read the entire thing, Dinesh. You know, as it stands right now, we have, I guess what you would call a tenuous ceasefire. But. But that's probably the best outcome at the moment, right? I mean, I don't know.
A
Yes.
B
Could we have continued to blow apart the country and could we have taken out power plants and punished the people? Nobody really wanted that. And that's, by the way, also why when Trump said the civilization thing, I was like, he's not interested in killing 90 million people or making sure that 90 million people don't have power. So to me, it seems like as tenuous as this whole thing is, I don't see where we would be better off at the moment than where we're at.
A
In a weird way, the Iranian people seem to get it. They wouldn't be Calling for Trump and even Israel to keep going. If they all thought that they were facing complete extinction, they recognized that so far the attacks on Iran have been very targeted and aimed at the regime. So I think on the right, I was kind of amazed that people were like, oh, we're gonna end, you know, ancient Persian civilization going back to the monuments of Cyrus the Great. No, Trump is Talking about a 50 year old regime that has consolidated its power. Now, the funny thing to me about Trump is that, and this is what I call his real estate approach, he says to the military things like, we're bombing these Iranian ships. He goes, what a waste of ships. Why don't we just capture the ships and sell them? This is total real estate thinking, right? Or even more recently, he wants to. He raised the idea, extremely outrageous. Why don't Iran, and we both charge tolls at the Strait of Hormuz and split the proceeds? I mean, only Trump would go there. And I think this is his way of looking at the United States as a large global real estate holder. And he's trying to essentially increase our holdings worldwide and increase our influence worldwide. So that's his view of America first. And I think if we put that lens in the camera, his actions become much more understandable rather than trying to superimpose some ideological lens, which is not the way he thinks. And that's why it's not fair to judge him by that criterion.
B
So subsequently, we get, again, shaky, tenuous, whatever you want to call it, ceasefire. But we still are keeping our military there. This from Trump. All US Ships, aircraft and military personnel with additional ammunition, weaponry, and anything else that is appropriate and necessary for the lethal prosecution and destruction of an already substantially degraded enemy will remain in place in and around Iran until such time as the real agreement is reached and fully complied with, et cetera, et cetera. Brendan, what would you say to someone on the right who just. I'm not talking about the real crazies. I'm talking about somebody on the right who's just an isolationist, just a pure libertarian. That's their ideology and they're upset about all of this. What would you say to that person?
C
Well, I think that we have to be educated on reality, right? I mean, in the utopian world, we could be isolationists and we don't have to get in any war and somehow the money still comes in and trade still goes out, and we don't have any, you know, any dealings in that. But the reality is we have to have some type of involvement around the world to keep America safe. Some of these wars or some of these conflicts need to be fought off American soil. A lot of trade, you know, some of the economic success that we've been having around the world. Some of our enemies, we have to have an advantage over them. Right. We cannot let China and Russia and some of these other places kind of take a stronghold around the world. And I don't understand how isolation is contend with this, because if we didn't have agreements and partnerships around the world in South America, in the Middle east, then China would, then, before you know it, our price of oil will be controlled by an adversary. And we don't need that. And it's unfortunate, but that's just the way we have to be. You cannot sit in a bubble and act as if we can stay in America and all the economy is just going to work out just here without facing any conflicts. Other people are evil. They want to take over the world. They want complete economic dominance. They want America to be. To not exist anymore. Especially some of these ideological Islamic terrorists. They would love to take over America and it be an Islamic state. So we have to understand that and we have to appropriately address those things across the world.
B
Dinesh, how much would you describe this as just sort of. It's like a seventh grader's understanding of the world in that. Yes. Am I for peace? Yes. Do I like war? No. But just saying you are for peace and you're anti war doesn't bring no war and it certainly doesn't bring peace. There are, as Brandon points out, there are. There are bad guys out there. That's just reality. So a certain set of people just seem to be caught in a very middle school way of thinking.
A
Yeah. The way I would press them on it is something like this. I mean, take a guy even like Dave Smith, who purports to be a libertarian. Now, a libertarian is supposed to be someone who defends freedom, stands up for freedom. So, all right, we have freedom in this country. What's it worth to have, let's say, freedom in Iran? Okay. Now he might think the price is too high to have military intervention. So you start at the beginning. You go, okay, Dave, listen, what if we could have freedom in Iran, a free country, a pro American country in that part of the world, and it's going to cost us $100. Would you be willing to pay that much? And then you work your way up. Because if you think of this war, I mean, I cannot even believe how well it's going. And here's what I mean, you Have a country of 90 billion people, it's an oil rich country, it's got technological resources, it's fairly close to the nuclear threshold, it's been a menace for 50 years. And you have this lopsided one sided conflict which you could never have predicted. I mean, if we go back to other wars, I mean, go back to the Civil War, right? The Union army loses 4,000. Robert E. Lee loses 2,500. It's a big victory for Lee. He only lost 2,500 men. So the idea here that Iran is completely debilitated and our losses of miniscule by comparison. I mean, this is like a marvel of the modern era that we're able to pull this off. And therefore when I see right wingers go, oh, we're doing terribly, you know, we're losing. Iran is celebrating, I'm like, what world are you living in? You are living in the fever of your own mind and you're projecting your own craziness onto Trump.
B
So I wanna show you guys, and hopefully we don't have to spend too much time on this. I'm really trying not to focus on the Tucker, Megan sort of portion of all this. But I wanna show you something that I think is interesting here. Tucker again did a show on this yesterday at the tweet on this. Netanyahu launches terror attack on Beirut, destroying Trump's ceasefire. We need to detach from Israel immediately. Now, it's interesting that he's calling it a terror attack and he's connecting it to the ceasefire because, well, first off, a state stopping a terrorist organization, Hezbollah, from launching rockets into their territory, that, that by no definition is a terror attack. That aside, it turns out that the ceasefire had literally nothing to do with Lebanon. Here's J.D. vance. First of all, I actually think, and there's a lot of bad faith negotiation and a lot of bad faith, you
C
know, propaganda going on.
B
I think this comes from a legitimate misunderstanding. I think the Iranians thought that the
C
ceasefire included Lebanon and it just didn't.
B
We never made that promise.
C
We never indicated that was going to be the case. What we said is that the ceasefire
B
would be focused on Iran and the ceasefire would be focused on America's allies, both Israel and, and the Gulf Arab states. So, Brandon, whether Iran made a mistake in the translation or not, you have Tucker taking their side of it, calling Israel our ally in this, who's defending their own citizens. 300,000 people are not living in the north for the last two years because of this rocket fire. Not only calling it terror, but Basically saying it breaks the ceasefire, which it had nothing to do with what is going on. And of course, he won't issue a retraction or a correction or say, actually, I did get, you know, poor information on this, et cetera, et cetera.
C
David, it's all about hatred of Israel and Jews. It's just that's what all of this stuff comes down to. I don't know what kind of psychological trauma that these people are going through in their mind, but for whatever reason, and I think majority of it is spiritual, they just hate Jews and Israel so much that everything has to be the fault of the Jews. Everything has to be the fault of Israel. He could have taken 30 seconds to do some deep dive research before he make a crazy accusation against one of our allies. All he had to do is take a little bit of time and listen to what Donald Trump had to say, listen to what JD Vance have to say, do a little research online and put two and two together. But that's not their motive. None of these people have a motive that way. None of the. They're willing to betray the United States of America in the pursuit to hate Israel. I'm telling you. That's why his whole. Like, the thing is that I've never seen any of these people talk about the Christians being slaughtered by Islamic terrorists. You never hear them say anything about Iran slaughtering their own people. They cried day and night about Gaza, and it's a genocide. It's a genocide. And we see, according to them, a genocide happen in Iran against their own people. And they hate Christians and they hate America and they won't even say anything about it, but they are willing to fix their mouth to come up or concoct a fake story that has to do with Israel and hating Israel.
B
Dinesh, let me ask you a slightly different version of that. I agree with what Brandon said there, but, like, let's giving him every benefit of the doubt, which I don't think he deserves, but I'm going to really just try to offer him everything right now. Let's say he really thought it was part of the ceasefire, okay? Five minutes later, JD Comes out. It's not part of the ceasefire. Trump has now said was never part of the ceasefire. The fact that he will not correct it, I have no problem saying there is zero chance he will correct it. He'll watch this and then be drubbed into something. But we just know he won't because he's been caught in a million lies. What does that tell you about what he's doing. I mean, I suppose it's what Brandon just laid out.
A
Well, I think Tucker is careening out of control, but on a trajectory that can be plotted out. In other words, it's not as if Tucker suddenly comes out. I like Sharia. Bin Laden wasn't such a bad guy. We should apologize to him. It wasn't. It didn't start like that. It started with Netanyahu. Netanyahu is the bad guy. Then it went from Netanyahu is the bad guy to Israel. Israel is the bad guy. Stage three was, it's not just Netanyahu. It's not just Israel, it's the Jews. And that's why you bring in the killing of Christ. But this is the starting point. It's important to recognize that Tucker's pro Islamic and even pro. Pro Hamas and pro Iran stances all came much later.
B
And pro Sharia, by the way, and pro Sharia.
A
So I think Brandon's right. It starts on the pivot of Israel and the Jews, and then Tucker's whole world spins out of control off of that axis. So all these later discoveries of how wonderful the Muslims are. The old Tucker would never have said that, but his starting point changed. It became a new, like, fulcrum, a new axis. And now his whole worldview has to be turned around in order to accommodate that new starting point. This is the new Tucker.
B
That's well said. You know, it's just. I know we can point out the hypocrisy and the shift and all that all the time. I think pointing out the direct. Being caught in a lie. We all talk for a living. We all make mistakes. Like, there's just no doubt about it. However, when I make a mistake and someone points it out to me, I address it and move on. So to me, it's like it's insulting to the audience, if nothing else. If you don't want to have a little person, personal integrity, at least care about your viewers. And just to end this real quick. So subsequently, since the ceasefire had nothing to do with Lebanon. Well, this is just in from Disclose tv. The first ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Lebanon will be held at the U.S. state Department in Washington. And of course, as you guys know, it's a little tricky because Lebanon's not even in charge of their own country. But we'll leave that there. Let's continue to the other part of this all week, which was that Trump really does seem to be laying the groundwork to leave NATO and. And I think it's probably very deserving. Listen to this. From Trump on truth, NATO wasn't there when we needed them and they won't be there if we need them again. Remember Greenland, that big, poorly run piece of ice? I mean, guys, it seems to me we foot the bill on NATO. Some allies kind of offered up mealy mouth statements like the uk, Spain completely closed their airspace to us, although Trump said, you know, we could still take it and land if we want. They're not going to do anything. I think NATO's on its last legs and if somehow this thing starts wrapping up, that will be Trump's next international move. What do you think about that, Brandon?
C
Oh, no, I think that that's 100% appropriate. You know, and this is just from a layman's perspective, just the average American, if we're contributing to something that's not benefiting America, then we just divest from it. I mean, it's that simple. Donald Trump is showing and displaying for the world that NATO is not supportive in the efforts that we're doing to liberate people in Iran and make America a safer place by eliminating the threat level in the Middle east and also supporting our allies. And we're also supporting the uae, Saudi Arabia and all these other countries that want peace. But then NATO don't want to contribute because they're cowards. And so what Donald Trump is saying is like, look, when we needed you the most, although we're giving you guys all this money and we're funding and we supporting your military, you know, we're supporting the defense and safety for you. We're going to keep a track. We're going to keep track of this and we're going to divest from some of these places that are not benefiting America. And I hope that he actually does it.
B
To your point, here's Caroline Levitt on the test that NATO failed. NATO. Secretary General, a little bit later this afternoon, I have a direct quote from
A
the President of the United States on
B
NATO and I will share it with all of you.
A
They were tested and they failed. And I would add it's quite sad
B
that NATO turned their backs on the American people over the course, of course, of the last six weeks when it's the American people who have been defunding their defense. As you know, President Trump will be
A
meeting with Secretary Ruta in a couple
B
of hours here at the White House.
C
And I know he looks forward to
B
having a very frank and candid conversation with him. So, Dinesh, because one of the symptoms of Trump Derangement Syndrome is if Trump says something you have to say the opposite. Suddenly all these Democrats and certain Republicans are like, my God, NATO. We love NATO. We love NATO. I think it's cooked one way or another. I think NATO is now done.
A
Here's why I think that is the case. Obviously, the problem with NATO now is that a lot of these European countries, Canada, Australia included, are run by left wingers, right? You got Keir Starmer in Britain, you got Carney, you got Albanese in Australia, you've got Sanchez in Spain, and of course Macron. So even if NATO were run by a different set of leaders, I mean, think of what if Santiago Abascal was the Prime Minister or the President of Spain. What if you had Alice Weidell running Germany? It would be a different story altogether. Now, in the past, going back to the Reagan eras and continuing in the 90s, even the left wingers in Europe understood that they need to support the United States. Think about Tony Blair. He was on the left, but he supported the United States. I think about, like mitterrand in the 80s. Mitterrand was a socialist in France, but he supported Reagan in the Cold War. He was very anti communist. So we could do business under that old system. But now these left wingers act like left wingers in this country and they're actively subverting U.S. foreign policy. And so I think that the old NATO arrangement is obsolete and our reason for being in NATO no longer holds. We can't count on them to support us because the them includes some good guys and also a lot of bad guys.
B
Right? So look at this. So then Trump brings in NATO Secretary Mark Root, who's the former Prime Minister of Amsterdam, sorry, of Holland. And he clearly he had smacked him around a little bit because then Root goes on Jake Tapper. And watch this.
A
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the President is weighing punishing some NATO allies for not being helpful to the US And Israel during the war. Quote, the proposal would involve moving US troops out of NATO member countries deemed unhelpful to the Iran war effort and station them in countries that were more supportive of the US Military campaign.
B
Did the President talk about that at all today?
A
Again, it was a very frank. It was a very open discussion.
C
He clearly told me what he thought of what happened over the last couple of weeks.
A
Some countries, some countries specifically said, you can't use our bases, you can't even fly over our airspace. Spain, France.
C
Yeah, but listen, the large majority, including France, of European nations has been doing
A
what they committed before they would do
C
in a case like this.
A
Not all European nations lived up to those commitments. And I totally understand that he is disappointed about it.
B
Brennan, he went on to say that actually having an incapacitated Iran is good, and he's glad that this whole thing happened. But you could clearly see this. This is the guy who runs NATO, and he basically was like, like, yeah, without Trump, we're nothing. So whatever he wants, we just want that cash.
C
Well, yeah, and I'm sick of us playing with people like this. I mean, I think that we've been so robotic the way we operate as a government that nobody's willing to think outside the box and say, you know what? Enough is enough. You know, Donald Trump is the only president, one of the few presidents that's really looking out for America's best interest. And he's willing to say whatever, do whatever, and take extreme steps and measures, even if it's unorthodox to do what's right for America. I don't know why we playing games with these people anyway. Look, we should have zero tolerance. Now, maybe I need to look into NATO a little bit more, but it seems to me that we should have zero tolerance for stuff like this. You want to get woke and say that you're not going to let us use the military bases in the airspace, like, you want to play around, then you're going to find out because none of these people can exist without America. None of them. We're the strongest military, have the best intelligence, and then they want to play around just like these woke weirdos in the United States of America. You know, they. They say they hate America, but they won't move. They want all the resources of capitalism, but they want to push socialism. It's the same thing with NATO. If you guys want to be clowns and you want to play around, we're going to divest from you, never to return again. And then good luck.
B
Here's Trump saying it in a very Trumpian style, and I'll say it publicly. We're very disappointed with NATO because NATO
A
has done absolutely nothing.
B
And I've always said, 25 years ago,
A
I was somebody that wasn't a politician, but I was always involved in politics, and I understood politics. I said 25 years ago that NATO's
B
a paper tiger, but more importantly, that we'll come to their rescue, but they will never come to ours. Dinesh, that's Trump 101, right? Just distills it down into a simple sentence that everyone can understand and we all know it. What is, when would Britain, at this point, or France or any of these countries come help us, and we can't even get them to offer simplistic basic help when we're footing the bill for everything.
A
I mean, the practical reality is in this Iran war, we can count far more on the United Arab Emirates than we can count on the UK now, what a shocking statement. This would have been a couple of decades ago, but the United States is realizing we might have a new set of allies, Japan, South Korea, India. And longer term, we might find a greater convergence of interests with these allies than we might with some of the European countries. So it's kudos to Trump who's willing to open ourselves up to this kind of thinking, because it's about time. I don't think it would have happened without Trump.
B
There was an interesting domestic story attached to all this that I didn't touch on earlier in the week, but let me read this from Colin Rug on X NEW the niece and grand niece of slain Iranian general Qasem Soleimani were reportedly living lavish lifestyles in Los Angeles before being arrested by ice. Hamida Soliman Afshar, the nice, had allegedly celebrated the Iranian attacks on US Soldiers while living in the United States. She promoted Iranian regime propaganda, celebrated attacks against American soldiers and military facilities in the Middle east, praised the new supreme Iranian supreme leader, denounced America as the Great Satan, and voiced her unflinching support for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, a designated terrorist organization, the state department said. Afshar, 47, was granted asylum in 2019 and received a green card from the Biden administration in 21. The grand niece of Soleimani Sarinazat Hosseini, 25, entered the US in 2015 on a student visa and later became a green card holder. Her now deleted Instagram showed her clubbing in Miami, spending time in Alaska and partying in Las Vegas, according to the New York Post. Guys, you know, look, I don't think anyone's guilty of their father's sins or their great uncle's sins or anything else. The irony, I mean, there's a couple layers here. Brandon, you were earlier talking about all these people that hate America but never leave. I mean, write that there's that. But then the irony of this girl wandering around in bikinis and going to beaches and doing all her stuff on Instagram while the women in Iran are quite literally fighting so that they can rip off the burqa.
C
Yeah, I think it's absolutely asinine that these people pull these stunts, right? We see the same thing in Mexico. People are running around with the Mexican flag. Mexican is the greatest country, but they don't want to live in Mexico. They want nothing to do with Mexico. And the funny thing is, is that none of this stuff in America that we are able to exercise or live through came for free. Somebody had to die for this stuff, right? And we had soldiers and men and women that have died in war to make sure that we're safe, and we have all these luxuries. These people don't come from countries that sacrificed anything for America, but they want to live and get all the benefits of being in America. And I think Marco Rubio has taken some action in this area, but they need to leave this country, especially people like Ilhan Omar. These people come over here from these trash countries seeking asylum and wanting a better place, and then they get here and begin to be ungrateful. Like, it's asinine to me. And I hope that we begin to take action against people who are not lawfully able to stay in this country if we can get them out of here, if they're disrespecting America.
B
Well, finally last week, JD Went on the record and said that we know that Ilhan has married her brother. So they might finally get somewhere on that. Dinesh, let me throw to this video. This is Dr. Mahsa Tarani. She's an Iranian woman. And watch her take on these ridiculous people that come here and do this type of thing. This is a prime example of the hypocrisy of the double standard of the Islamic regime. You know, if America is the Great Satan, why do you send your offspring and loved ones here? A few years ago, Mahsa Amini, who was that young Persian woman who was detained by the regime's police, and she was beaten to death because a couple of strands of her hair were showing. And then, yet you have the same regime official's children, and here enjoying what we have in the US Our free dress code, our amazing academic institutions, our basic human rights that their counterparts back in Iran unfortunately can't enjoy. And what's really concerning to me, John, is that isn't this a national security threat? When you have these regime affiliates coming into close contact with our laboratories, our research facilities here are developing technologies. So I think the Secretary of State is doing a great job job honing in on these people. Dinesh. So Rubio is working on a couple of these, and we know there's other versions. It's not just people from Iran, but do you think the administration, especially before the midterms, will have the. The fortitude to really start expelling enough people because there are. There are probably tens of thousands, if not more of these types of people.
A
I think politically it would be a big winner because I think if there's anything that's keeping our base somewhat lethargic, it is the idea that the prosecutions of high level Democrats and mass deportations, particularly of really bad guys, has not happened at the scale that was expected. So, yes, they definitely need to ramp it up. Look, when I see this kind of stuff going on, to me it's a very familiar mindset. It's not just a hypocrisy of people who want to live free in the United States while they wouldn't be free in Iran. It's just people who believe on the left that normal standards don't apply to them. Think of Chavistas who talk about socialism but go to five star restaurants. Think about the Politburo in Russia where they had beautiful dachas and second places and drivers. And so the same thing is going on here. These are people like, you know, of course, yeah, the hijab is for the poor people who have to follow the law. But I'm one of the leaders of the regime. I'm not going to be held to those kinds of standards. I can live however I want. So. So this kind of mentality which, by the way, we see on the left in this country too, is I think part of this global phenomenon of elites who think it's one set of rule for the peasants and it's another set for the rest of us.
B
Yeah, well said. I want to cover one other thing with you guys off the Iran topic altogether, but obviously last August, the story didn't really break in America until September, but there was the horrific murder of Irina Zyrutska. She was, I mean, this image is just seared in everybody's mind. She was just sitting on the Charlotte light rail, minding her own business. This guy murdered her. She bled out right there. He said something to the effect of, you know, you get what you deserve, white woman. Something like that. Well, now it appears that decarlos Brown, the guy who did it, has been declared unfit for trial. This is absolutely wild. Take a look. This from Will Kane show. We're learning. Decarlos Brown Jr. The felon charged with the murder of Irina Zarutska on a North Carolina light raid, has been found incapable to proceed with trial. The decision comes after a mental health evaluation. So decarlos Brown has a string of prior charges dating back more than a decade, including a felony larceny and robbery with A dangerous weapon. Brown's lawyers are now asking the court to push back a scheduled April 30 hearing for another six months. It's pretty unbelievable. How many times can this man continue to commit crimes and be judged incapable of being accountable for his crimes? Crimes? It's not just larceny. It's not just robbery. Now it's cold blooded murder, Brennan. I mean, this. This one is legit crazy. That's 13 mug shots right there. The murder, the cold blooded murder is on video. We all saw it. It almost upended the whole country. People barely remember it at this point. I mean, if this guy can't stand trial like we. It seems to me we are just lost. Beyond lost.
C
Yeah, I definitely think there needs to be a review and some people need to be held accountable. It doesn't appear that any reason why this person cannot stand trial. I mean, look at the track record. I mean, he's cognitive enough to do all of these heinous crimes. I mean, he didn't just stab the girl and roll on the ground like he's catching on fire and losing his mind. He intentionally said, that's what this white girl get, or he alluded to her race. So that tells me that he's functional and cognitive enough to make that decision. Premeditated in order to kill a person because they're white. And so, you know, I don't want to hear that this person is not capable of standing trial. They need to be put to death for all of this stuff that been doing. I mean, 13 mug shots is not even the grasp of what he does. Those are 13 times he's been arrested with a mug shot. He probably done way more than that and didn't get caught.
B
Right. And you're saying that as a former officer, obviously, Dinesh, even if he has psychological problems, which I would say by definition, if you murder a random person over their skin color, there's obviously psychological problems there. But even if, let's say there's a whole list of psychological problems, the answer can't be, okay, he's unfit for trial. So now what? We just gonna put him in a home somewhere?
A
Well, the judge, it should be said, has not yet signed off on this. So this is an evaluation that is being presented to the judge. So we're not at the stage where the judge has already said, okay, fine, I agree with it. We'll see what happens there. But what strikes me is how fluid and dishonest these kind of criteria are. I mean, imagine like a few years ago, you said, we want to confine Decarlos Brown to an institution. Right. The same psychiatrist would then say, you can't do that. He's got civil rights. He's a free man. He needs to be able to make his own choices. So they would say the exact opposite about him. But now that he's being actually held responsible for what he does, do they flip and they go, wait a minute. This guy can't make choices. He's out of his mind. He's not rational. So I think that this. This reflects the kind of depravity of the psychiatric profession, which has become ultimately a. We'll say whatever it is, you need to supply a legal rationale and see if there's some stupid enough judge to go along with this.
B
Dinesh, are you telling me that a profession that has quite literally cut the genitals off hundreds of thousands of children is depraved? I'm shocked and appalled. Let's end with this, and then we'll try to think of something funnier to end with. But I want to connect this to largely what's happening across the country, because, you know, Virginia had a horrific gubernatorial election not too long ago. They've got this far left Democrat Abigail Spanberger, who ran as a moderate Dem, which just simply does not exist. And then the second she got into office, it's as far left on everything as possible. Here she is being pressed on illegals killing Americans, specifically in Virginia. He says three out of every four people arrested in Fairfax county are illegal aliens. They're asking you to discontinue Saint Tree City policies. Any comment along those lines? Governor? Governor, any comment on the DHS request?
A
Ma', am, earlier this week, there was a pull up that had your numbers a little unfavorable. And then your predecessor, Glenn, was making a podcast run earlier this week to taking a couple jabs at you, I guess, overall on your numbers. What do you attribute that to? And then what would you say back to Glenn? I would say, if everybody hated me, why is everybody putting my face on their mailers for the referendum?
B
Brandon? I mean, just the smiling through it, no responsibility. There's just no doubt more of this will happen in her state. On top of all the equity stuff she's ushering in and the gender stuff and all of it, like, a lot of people thought we were done with all of it. Well, not in Virginia.
C
Well, you know, just our pompous behavior is just a smiling and grinning or when people are asking her legitimate questions about real issues that are facing people and affecting their lives in Virginia, I try not to say I hate anybody, because Christ wouldn't want me to hate people, but I do hate what they do. These people are evil, and it's sad that they take a position and run for office, and then they convince ignorant folk to vote for them, and then they turn around and spit in your face. And I don't know how American people are still so ignorant enough to let this happen time and time again. I don't live in. In Virginia, but a part of me wants to say, this is what you get. You guys did not do due diligence. You're going on WOKE policies. You hate Trump so much, or whatever the case that got this woman elected, and now she's gonna raise taxes about everything that you do, and you guys are not gonna still be sanctuary cities, and people are gonna continue to die. Crime is gonna go out of control, and that's what you get. Maybe next time you guys wouldn't vote that way. And I say that to the ones who voted for her, not really the victims of the people who voted against her that ended up getting her anyway anyway.
B
Right? But it is what it is. I lived in New York City for 20 years. All my formative years. I loved it when I was there. And yet there's this part of me that's like, okay, this is what you guys want now. Congratulations. I don't want to feel that, but they made a choice. Dinesh, bring us home.
A
Well, we're seeing here the emergence of a female type that I don't think has existed in earlier eras. Abigail Spanberger. Even if you turned off the volume and just watched her, you know, just watched her mannerism, very similar, by the way, to Newsom's wife. That same kind of serene arrogance, that same kind of living in a world where consequences don't seem to matter. I think these women are, in their own unintentional way, making the case for a patriarchal society. I realize we've come some distance from there, but I think watching that, you begin to develop a certain kind of appropriate misogyny, not directed at women in general, but directed at a certain type of woman that is quite literally unbearable.
B
Right? It's like they're wearing the shirt that says, the future is female, and they're going to usher in, like, the complete, complete reverse of it. Gentlemen, I'm going to finish the show doing this week on the Internet, where we do the canned laughter, so we'll handle the funny stuff without you, but it was very informative. Always a pleasure talking to you, Brandon. Dinesh Have a great week.
C
Thank you for having us.
A
You too.
B
And now this week on the Internet. Thank you. Thank you very much. I just flew in and, boy, are my arms tired. This week on the Internet, the Easter Bunny needs to pick a lane. He went from being Biden's handler to being the Secretary of War. That's quite a promotion from helping the President find the exit to deciding who gets bombed after brunch. And if you're still wondering why Trump wanted the bunny standing next to him while he makes scary threats to Iran, watch this.
A
Here comes Peter Cottontail.
B
The tension was so thick, at some point, I was waiting for Trump to turn and go, open the straight or the bunny gets it. But of course, Trump would never hurt the Easter Bunny. I mean, we all know who's really inside of that. Can you imagine being the guy who woke up out of the 40 year coma on Sunday and the first thing you see is Trump and the Easter Bunny talking about bombing Iran. Those meds, you're really doing something. If you opened up X earlier this week, you probably thought Trump was about to kill 90 million people. Everyone's losing their minds, especially this poor woman. Wait, where have I seen her before? Oh, yeah, Walgreens, aisle seven. And that wasn't even the craziest thing. This week, Donald Trump revealed what Kim Jong Un thinks about Joe Biden. Kim Jong Un, who I get along with very well, as you know. Do you notice he said very nice things about me? He used to call Joe Biden a mentally retarded person. What happened to this guy's hair? He looks like a pencil eraser. That's seen too many mistakes. Anyway, Kim Jong Un was spotted teaching his daughter how to drive a tank. A tank. That's right. You know how rich you gotta be to skip over the cars? Regular kids get a Honda, rich kids get a BMW. His daughter, she gets a war crime. And before we move on, I gotta throw to this gem.
A
Make sure all the school teaching the
B
children how to be homosexual, and make sure they all teach about the transgender. This week on the Internet, the Masters of the Universe movie trailer is out. And it gives viewers a first look at Jared Leto as Skeletor, He Man's arch nemesis. He man, of course, was one of the great cartoon characters of the 80s, but fans have been complaining all week about the choice to cast Leto as Skeletor.
C
You may have the badge,
B
but you're too scared to use it.
C
Trust me, I know how to use it.
B
I mean, I guess you could argue about that. I'm not so concerned about the casting choices. I'm just glad they didn't change the name of the main character to he him man or He They. Man or He She. Man or she. Man or she. Woman or she ra. Wait, that's a real character. This week on the Internet, Zorhan Momdami launched a new program to promote free childcare education, a citywide jingle content, and to judge the contest, he picked Cardi B. Yes, because when I think child education, I think wap. But for toddlers, she had a bucket and something, something. And just to give you an idea of the intellectual rigor behind this panel, here's Cardi B. Explaining that she seen. Well, just watch for yourself.
A
People have seen my hair transition. Yeah, people have seen it. Like, people have seen it. And I've been doing my hair.
B
Well, we seemed it. All right. Yeah. And finally this week on the Internet, you ever notice that if you spend enough time online, you think the world is completely insane? Everyone's screaming, everyone's going bananas. Every headline looks completely ridiculous. Like IKEA is introducing the meat lollipop. It's real. Or quadruple amputee professional cornhole player arrested for murder. That's real. Poor drunk raccoon found passed out at a Virginia liquor store. Not what I believe. And then you log off, you go outside and you realize most people are actually fine and some are even decent. In fact, a 68 year old Domino's delivery driver went viral for buying a customer a Diet Coke after the store ran out during his busy shift.
A
The voicemail just popped up. I didn't see a phone call.
C
I'm so cage kiss.
A
We had a Diet Coke. Okay.
B
I stopped at the store though, so.
C
Oh, you did not have to do that.
B
That's okay.
A
Did you really? Yeah, that's all right.
C
Oh, man. Hold on now.
B
How about we all be more like that guy? But that's not what you see online because the Internet doesn't reward that guy. It rewards outrage. It rewards the MFers. Like this Disney World employee.
C
Yes, that's great.
B
But over here, she's gonna be even better. Also, the husband. Get a bigger shirt. Anyway, this week, here's my challenge for you. Go do something nice and don't tell anyone. Because the best things people do in this world aren't posted. And that's this week, on or off the Internet. Now get off.
Podcast Summary: The Rubin Report
Episode: "The Real Reason Iran Caved to This Trump Tactic"
Date: April 10, 2026
Host: Dave Rubin
Guests: Brandon Tatum (“The Officer Tatum Show”), Dinesh D’Souza (author, filmmaker, commentator)
This episode’s central theme is the dramatic week in global politics centered around Iran, U.S. military deterrence, and former President Donald Trump’s unorthodox diplomatic approach—particularly his bombastic public rhetoric and the subsequent Iranian response. In an engaging and candid roundtable, Dave Rubin and his guests break down the impact of Trump’s language, the tenuous ceasefire with Iran, the role of America’s global alliances, the state of NATO, and broader issues around immigration, leftist hypocrisy, and domestic policy failures.
The show starts by reviewing Trump’s controversial Truth Social posts, including statements like, “A whole civilization will die tonight.” Dave asks whether such language is concerning or strategic.
Outcome: No World War III ensued. Instead, Trump announced delaying military action based on new negotiations and securing the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a “tenuous but positive” ceasefire.
The conversation is direct, candid, and laced with both humor (e.g., cold open jokes about acronyms) [02:40] and righteous indignation—matching the show’s brand of “real conversations for tough times.” There is a shared incredulity at political and media hypocrisy, but it is grounded in a broader argument for stronger U.S. leadership and skepticism of globalist institutions.
This episode provides a lively, unapologetic breakdown of the week’s biggest geopolitical and domestic issues, with no shortage of strong opinions on Trump’s tactics, U.S. foreign policy, and the state of the American left. For listeners seeking context or a forceful defense of America-first principles, this roundtable delivers a rich, cohesive snapshot of ongoing debates around freedom, security, and national identity.
