We've got Kyle and Ceruti in the summertime. Good to see you guys. All right, let's just get right to it. Why not when Ryan is doing Ryan stuff, why not have Suri and Kyle do a show? It's content and it might be bad but I'd listen. Maybe not the second time, but definitely the first. Well, that's some glowing phrase. And Ryan doesn't seem. Yeah, I might listen to one all the way through. Ryan doesn't seem insecure to where he'd be upset while he's going between fjords and Hakari from a fishing village in Iceland is a longtime listener. It sucks when I'm eating my lunch watching the third hour of the Today show instead of listening to the pod. I'm all for it if you guys want to do something, crank out an episode or two.
Kyle Cerutti
I don't know what we talk about Kyle. I don't know.
Ryan Rosillo
This is right now. I hit a wall, dude.
Danny Cannell
I just hit a wall.
Ryan Rosillo
Sell me on your what's your open right now. Go.
Kyle Cerutti
Well, it's not baseball. Sorry, Jeff Passon. What do I want to get off my chest? I don't know. I feel like I've said most of the things I wanted to say but they're all soccer related. Like I, I we had big cat on this will already be out by. That happened on the soccer show and I threw him my Theory about how, like, everyone thinks soccer guy sucks, but actually, like, insecure football guy is the one that sucks the most. So I. I kind of.
Ryan Rosillo
I liked it.
Kyle Cerutti
I did. I pitched that to him.
Ryan Rosillo
He didn't.
Kyle Cerutti
He didn't love that, though. He thought I was misunderstanding the. He's like, well, football is a big deal. I'm like, no, I know that.
Ryan Rosillo
But, like, no one's saying it isn't.
Kyle Cerutti
And so I. I think we were on the same page. So it did not. Maybe it wasn't good. It didn't hit. So it was a terrible open. Who knows? But that would have been my idea. But I've gotten most of my ideas off on that pod, so. Sorry, Kyle.
Danny Cannell
Yeah. We could rank stuff for 20 minutes maybe. I don't know. Like, if it's a one off, we
Kyle Cerutti
can run it properly. I love that. We could do show and tell. Actually, I've been asking to do show and tell for God knows how long.
Danny Cannell
I'm in a great place for show and tell.
Ryan Rosillo
I. I be shot.
Kyle Cerutti
Should we go live on some of
Ryan Rosillo
these show live somewhere?
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah, we'll go live.
Danny Cannell
Yeah. The blind rank stuff is we did. We did a blind rank off air and it actually was hilarious. This was a while ago and we were just brainstorming, but. But I don't think that works in audio format really. You know, maybe make a good clip. So I don't know.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah. Wait, what would they.
Danny Cannell
Friends on the. On the show. I don't know. We could do like a show and tell with people. That'd be funny.
Kyle Cerutti
Well, wait.
Ryan Rosillo
The blind ranking bring me an armada of ideas.
Kyle Cerutti
What was the funny thing about the blind ranking? Cause you got cigarette. You were like wine ranking for the time.
Danny Cannell
It was things you couldn't live without, and so it was things you couldn't live without. And then like, I did everything and then cigarettes was the last one.
Kyle Cerutti
It actually would have been a great bit. Yeah, it was funny. Yeah. Maybe we do a deep dive into the Fralgrim crew, you know, like, who are they? Although the name Anonymous.
Danny Cannell
Yeah. Poughkeepsie guys are like, begging, like, why don't you ever talk about me? I'm like, I really don't know what to say, man. I don't think I would just want to shoehorn you into stuff like that. So, you know, maybe a little slower summer episode. I don't know. I could just go more places.
Ryan Rosillo
We could do some.
Danny Cannell
Maybe a joint travelogue.
Ryan Rosillo
I don't know. We got some.
Kyle Cerutti
Me and you. Where should we Go. Yeah. Where would we go? We have to be like New England related. I don't know.
Danny Cannell
Vfw. Halfway between both of us.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
I haven't hated one idea yet.
Kyle Cerutti
Can I wear my hat?
Ryan Rosillo
All right.
Danny Cannell
Also, we didn't really that at Spotify, you know, that wasn't really like just like get on the mic anymore. I think when the company was younger, like the ringer was younger, they were trying things out and then once, you know, shows got a little bigger and more established, there wasn't as much like, yeah, just go take a couple cuts, you know, so it's just my brain doesn't even go there anymore.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, I, I would not mind at all. I, I would think it would be great. I think it'd be hilarious. But I also don't blame you guys for being like, I actually don't feel like working an extra day that I don't have to. So it's up to you. If you guys want to do it, you have my full blessing.
Kyle Cerutti
It wouldn't be terribly hard to just hop on and do an over under properly though.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah. But I, I kind of want you guys to have like a debate, like on something for eight minutes. Just two guys just exploring the pieces.
Kyle Cerutti
But I don't know, like what, Kyle? Like what, what fires you up? Like, I guess doesn't have to be sports, but sports wise, you know, like what. What would we argue about? Yeah, I don't know. Like, I don't even know what I would like if I was like to be like, hey, actually here's why Drake May is not a top five quarterback.
Danny Cannell
I don't even want to make it an exoneration. I mean, what do we want to do here?
Kyle Cerutti
I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole. Okay.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, what if. I mean, the thing that would be kind of funny, but it feels a little narcissistic to me to pitch it to you would be you guys talking about me for eight minutes, trying to guess.
Kyle Cerutti
You would say.
Danny Cannell
Sound crazy when you say that though.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, right. No, but I'm meaning, like, what does he like? What does he not like? And then trying to get it right. Like the roommate game.
Kyle Cerutti
Oh, yeah. Well, you kind of have to be here for that to answer the questions, but yeah, we can always play it right.
Danny Cannell
Best moments, worst moments with Ryan. That'd be cool.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah.
Danny Cannell
Balance it out.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah. I think there's not a low. There's not a lot of lows though. I would, I would guess. When have you guys ever had a day where you didn't like working with me where you were like, not that
Danny Cannell
I didn't like working with you, but that whole whatever, that debacle, and the Ole Miss one where I was caught smoking a cigarette outside with the guy who was, like, working there after they told me that you had 20 minutes worth of material with your guests, and then five minutes later, it's like, all right, we're doing life advice. I don't remember what was. Was that just you and van, you had 10 minutes, and then you just decided to pull the trigger on life advice? After, like, they just told me I had, like, almost 30 minutes, seven minutes past, and then I have to, like, run past everyone to the front of the stage. And then afterwards, I was already so worried about it. And then Serena was like, yeah, Ryan wasn't super thrilled about that. I'm like, yeah, me neither. I mean, I guess. I guess I should have just hung out backstage the whole time. But I was just informed we had a plethora of time. But that was probably a low, and that wasn't even really a you low.
Ryan Rosillo
That show wasn't the best live show I've ever done, so it was.
Kyle Cerutti
I would say it was the worst. No offense to everyone.
Danny Cannell
That was for everyone.
Ryan Rosillo
And it's not anyone's fault. It's not Ole Miss's fault. It's certainly not anyone on the production side. Elizabeth is an absolute champ at everything, so I would hate for.
Kyle Cerutti
It just didn't work.
Ryan Rosillo
It didn't work.
Danny Cannell
The LSU Travelers were going to get there late that night, right? So, like, we missed that game.
Ryan Rosillo
So we missed the LSU crowd. It was during the day. I desperately wanted to do a show from Ole Miss, and then it didn't work. And then Van's, like, dog ate a tennis ball. So, like, Van was going to be my buddy for the night, and then he couldn't even go to the game. He had to, like, go back to la. So that part of it sucked. And it was like, you know, you need the night. You need the nightlife to have those shows really work. You'd be doing something special to deliver during the day. And it was almost like an assembly the way it was set up, because no venue wanted to give us. No one wanted to give us their venue for the night. Like, are you kidding me? Like, one of the seven or eight home games we get, we're going to give you our fucking place on a Saturday night. Like, are you nuts? So it really.
Kyle Cerutti
It wasn't even that, though.
Danny Cannell
It was a Friday, too. I think it was the day before the game, wasn't it?
Kyle Cerutti
It was a Thursday, I believe. Right? It was a Thursday day, I believe. Only because. Only because we like the process of getting that show out. The show would, like. If we released it Friday afternoon, it would suck. And you can't release something on a Saturday because it's going to be dated by then. So, like, we had to tape it early enough. But the game was obviously on a Saturday. I just don't think doing shows at games like that probably works.
Danny Cannell
It was too far away from the game time.
Ryan Rosillo
I read that right. And it was. Then I just was in Ole Miss for the rest of the time. And by the way, the Ole Miss people were incredible to me.
Kyle Cerutti
We did go to that great bar. I had a slushie. I remember that. It was fun.
Danny Cannell
Purple Drop.
Ryan Rosillo
I went out by myself after the game and it wasn't even close to, like, having. I ended up hanging out with that guy who everybody knows like, a little bit because he knew all the LSU people that I knew, and they were just doing the foam cup deal.
Danny Cannell
Are you talking about your good friend Todd Graves?
Ryan Rosillo
No, it wasn't Todd Graves. My best friend Todd Graves. Todd and I are buddies, but I mean, he's. He's definitely. I'm not being as plus one to the white party, but.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah. What a poll.
Danny Cannell
Yeah, I mean, I.
Ryan Rosillo
Look, I built up Ole Miss, the whole thing and the fact that I didn't have any dudes, and then it was over. And then I was living in a strip mall and then I had to stay there. Like, I stopped doing that thing where I would go to an SEC game and then to make sure that the Monday pod was good and I'd watch everything on Sunday. I would watch everything on Sunday and I'd be in a room and then I would be leaving, like, the SEC town on a Monday night to get out of there. And I don't think I do that anymore. All right. Yeah. So there you go. Speaking of an armada of ideas. This is a response. This is from a while back to the Succession comps on the last Friday feedback. Jerry was spot on.
Kyle Cerutti
I think Jerry.
Ryan Rosillo
I think Jerry's awesome. So.
Danny Cannell
And kind of hot.
Kyle Cerutti
Thanks, Serutti. Sneaky hot. Who knows?
Ryan Rosillo
Rudy's wife is explaining. He's kind of hot. You remember like, Jerry from Succession?
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah, just like that.
Danny Cannell
Like, have you ever seen Steve Wigliffe? I mean, different guy.
Ryan Rosillo
Kyle's cousin Greg. No, no. But Ryan is 100% Kendall. Ryan even tried to do a self comp as Logan, which is an all time Kendall move. He's a great. I don't think I'm like any of them. And by the way, like, Logan doesn't love his. His children. Like if there's one thing on all the rewatches, I cannot stop watching it. I just throw on episodes all the time. It's actually getting weird. But what you realize is that Logan does not love the way a parent is ever supposed to love and that it's all manipulation, all that stuff. So I. I don't even think I'm a Logan really. So let's make the case for Kendall. Let me preface this by saying the characters on succession are objectively terrible people. So this isn't a one to one personality comp. Was Tom a terrible person?
Kyle Cerutti
I don't think so.
Danny Cannell
I think he was a greedy person. But I don't think that's ranks among the worst qualities.
Ryan Rosillo
You know, an operator. Yeah, yeah. You know, on some rewatches. Sucks. Is Rome. Roman sucks. Oh yeah, he's awful. Like when he brings Tabitha to fucking Tom's wedding. I mean, it's great television.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Danny Cannell
But I mean I was.
Ryan Rosillo
Sucks. And then when I was.
Kyle Cerutti
People think he was on him with
Danny Cannell
the baseball game in the Hamptons when he like screw with that kid's head and like tore up a million dollar
Ryan Rosillo
check in front of him.
Danny Cannell
I was. That was like the episode one.
Ryan Rosillo
I think that was tough.
Danny Cannell
Yeah.
Kyle Cerutti
I mean he's funny at times, but I don't think anyone's like, hey, that's an awesome dude.
Ryan Rosillo
No. All right, so. So this isn't a one to one personality comp. I've been listening since day one. Ryan is generous, loyal and genuinely compassionate person towards the people he cares about. This is strictly about the parallels. Wow, this is well written. Ryan's the main character on the pod in the same way. Succession is mostly about Kendall's journey. Kendall lives in the shadow of his father's larger than life present. Ryan constantly referencing and idolizing his dad's basketball prowess. Salt of the earth, grit and height. Yeah, there's some parallels there. I think you could say that Logan is Kendall Serrel. So I think that works. Both of them can have an occasional blind spots with self awareness or social cues. The Coors light situation still plays. Yep, that's fair. Career driven to a fault. Often sacrificing friends and family in pursuit of something greater. Checks out their affinity for rap, sneakers, streetwear, fashion and basketball. Naming your son Iverson is a Rosilla move. That is not accurate.
Kyle Cerutti
That's definitely not true. Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah.
Kyle Cerutti
As much as I want that to be, that's not true.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah. That part is not true. By the way, him naming his kid the writing room to go, what's Kendall's kid's name? And they're like, it's. Iverson is so fucking perfect. Just so jealous of moments like that where you go like, hey, what would be the best, worst name for his kid to, like, give us another layer of Kendall. He's going to name his kid Iverson. While Kendall's humor is more unintentional. Both have dry humor that can go under the radar. Like Ryan when he was on with Bill. And finally, you're both the eldest boys. I am the eldest boy.
Danny Cannell
That's right.
Kyle Cerutti
My sisters like to make fun of me with that.
Ryan Rosillo
But if I were ever Kendall, like, if anybody looked at me as Kendall in my friend group, that would bum me out. That would definitely be like, kendall's coming.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah. I think there are some good points. There's the harshness of Logan. I think some people, I think, can see you as harsh. I don't think you are harsh, but I think some people can be intimidated by you. So I think you have that. Is there a little shiv in there, too, where, like, you can be like, she's kind of cold. Doesn't really. You know, especially. I mean, maybe I'm just thinking of the Tom relationship specifically.
Ryan Rosillo
Not a great life partner.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah. Like, she's got some. She's good at some things, but she has. She also has some blind spots up,
Ryan Rosillo
you know, personally demand an open relationship. Marriage.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah. After you get married.
Ryan Rosillo
I think Tom knew ahead of time, but Tom was ready to move. Remember, he starts talking about, like, why can't. You know? There's some. I don't know that there's many Tom parallels because I just don't know that I could be that calculated and that phony. Although I love the idea of having a portrait. He's, like, too Asadi wasn't.
Kyle Cerutti
Tom's the classic guy who. He's just trying to survive, man. Like, he's just trying to. Like, he's always, like, kind of been open.
Ryan Rosillo
He knows he doesn't belong.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
He's gonna do whatever he can.
Danny Cannell
Super bummed about the prenup. Right.
Ryan Rosillo
Ryan's cowherd voice. I'm sorry. I'm just keeping it moving. Did you have something else?
Kyle Cerutti
No, that's it. Let's do the cowherd.
Ryan Rosillo
Quick stats or no stats? Quick one. No stats. Just getting right to it. I am never happier listening to a podcast than when Ryan does his cowherd voice. Any story that includes cowherd already demands my attention, but Ryan's impression really is the cherry on the Sunday include. It is often as. All right, I love doing the cow herd voice. We used to do it all the time in the hallway. Did it before we were friends. Don't know that he loved it. If I've learned anything, don't do impersonations of people in front of them that you're not friends with because they don't like it. But if you are friends, then you can do it. So you could say summer league's a lot like interest. Only seven year army. I'll worry about it later. Love cowherd.
Danny Cannell
Glad we turned down your gain before you did that on the.
Ryan Rosillo
On the mic there.
Kyle Cerutti
It's basically just excited high pitched and then a. And then like a half baked idea. That's basically what the. What the coward impression is.
Danny Cannell
It's a good equation right there.
Ryan Rosillo
That's pretty good. Bullpen's a lot like a salad bar. Low on carrots. Like, oh, I didn't know we had feta. Now we got a feta option.
Danny Cannell
Careful, you don't want to flood the market.
Ryan Rosillo
I know there's always, like a salad. Borrow one in there for me. But he did a rust belt one, which to this day, Van Pelt and I talk about this rust belt segment that he did. And that's the beauty of cowherd, is that you don't understand, like, you're kind of like, what the fuck is he saying? And then he ties it up and you're like, I don't even know that I believe it. But, man, those eight minutes, that was a ride, man. Was. That's. If you're ever confused on why anyone in this business that makes decisions, why they've been obsessed with cowherd for two decades, like, that is it. And it was all relatable and like, I was trying to do my shit and nobody there. Not because I was, like, brilliant, but I was like super sports guy. And decision makers were kind of like, all right, cool, man.
Kyle Cerutti
Get it, dude.
Ryan Rosillo
Watch the games again this weekend, buddy. Awesome.
Kyle Cerutti
Oh, you took notes. Yeah. Cool.
Ryan Rosillo
Coward just did a thing about how retirees are ruining wide receiver depth in the AFC North.
Kyle Cerutti
What was his rust belt thing? I don't remember that.
Ryan Rosillo
He did this whole thing about how the big ten was toast because of the rust belt migration numbers.
Kyle Cerutti
Big Ten Colin did that? Wow.
Ryan Rosillo
No, it was SEC Colin when he was at espn.
Kyle Cerutti
Right, right, right. Right, right.
Ryan Rosillo
Right. Now he's. Now he's big Ten Colin.
Danny Cannell
Good time to be big Ten Colin. Honestly.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
He knows his partners.
Kyle Cerutti
Oh, he's.
Ryan Rosillo
And he does it well. It's another reason why people in charge love him.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah. He got really into soccer as soon as he moved to Fox. I love it, I'll be honest with you. But it did happen.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah. Because prior to the soccer boom, when Skipper picked up the soccer deal, I remember him doing a segment about soccer being like, basically homeless people play it. So I'm not cultured enough. I mean, it was ruthless. It was like 2014 content. 2012 content where you could.
Danny Cannell
You could say, like for the great Awakening or whatever.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, yeah, right. Look, you could say some shit you shouldn't have said. You could also say some stuff where it's like, yeah, I don't know that that was that big of a deal that he said that. But then it got processed all different. 16, 17, I think is when the shift happened. Kyle is loving the Lucy pouches. He's just on it. He's like, I can't believe this is one of the perks at being at Barstool Sports. They come in handy when they need to come in handy. Lucy is the obvious choice for the true nicotine pouch connoisseur. That's why they're the official nicotine pouch partner of Barstool Sports. Every other pouch is the same. Uncover a human trafficking ring from one of the most defining action stars of the last 25 years. Mutiny. Only in theaters August 21st. All right, confirm that Ryan is a base two. I need to confirm that maybe after the cowherd voice. I do Big fan, Ryan. My brother and I have an ongoing debate regarding whether you are a bass one or a bass two. He insists you're a base one, but he can hardly tell the difference between a baritone and a second tenor. With the resonance of your profundo register, however, I would be shocked if you were not consistently hitting the D2 notes as a true bass. Yeah, I was bass, too, in high school. I don't know what happened. It was. It was early.
Danny Cannell
You signed stuff in high school.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, I was in the choir. Like, I was in, like, the good one.
Danny Cannell
Like, choir.
Ryan Rosillo
I know it sounds.
Danny Cannell
Choir sounds like.
Ryan Rosillo
Well, same.
Danny Cannell
Not an elective. Okay.
Ryan Rosillo
All right. Well, I was in it. I was in the one you took. Well, it was so. They took it so seriously in my high school that you. You could make. You did. You could just be in chorus, right? Anybody.
Kyle Cerutti
Instead of an instrument or do you play instrument?
Ryan Rosillo
We had a piano player. You know, somebody who played piano.
Kyle Cerutti
No, I'm saying, like, in our high school, like, you either played an instrument or I think you were in, like, a music class.
Ryan Rosillo
Like, course, you had to do one or two.
Kyle Cerutti
I think it was one or the other two years. And I played.
Ryan Rosillo
Yep.
Danny Cannell
Well, had to carry that clarinet around.
Ryan Rosillo
Freshman sophomore year, huh? I played trumpet. Fucking clarinets on kids.
Danny Cannell
So such a bummer.
Ryan Rosillo
That's a wild thing, though, if you think about it. It's good for the arts, right? But every single kid at some point has to pretend he's going to be in the music game long term. And you're looking at the catalog.
Danny Cannell
There's only so many trumpets.
Kyle Cerutti
I think that's a good thing. You don't think that's a good thing?
Ryan Rosillo
I do think it's a good thing, but I also think it's kind of wild from a marketing. I don't know if that's still the same now, but I remember being there, I brought back my. My thing, and I think I wanted to play trumpet. And I showed the catalog to my dad, and he's like, you're going to sing. It's cheaper.
Kyle Cerutti
He did.
Danny Cannell
You already got all the equipment, pal?
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, no need. No need.
Danny Cannell
No need to professionally clean your vocal cords. So we're ready to go.
Ryan Rosillo
I don't know that you took the recorder serious enough.
Kyle Cerutti
Go ahead.
Danny Cannell
All right, fine. So what was so funny is, like, I think I had the middle school or the middle school or elementary. Whenever they made me start doing trumpet, I had the school's version of that. And then I had to switch over to my aunt's Old one. And I didn't want to do it at all. And we had to pay to get it professionally cleaned. And then they were holding this thing over my head that your aunt gave you this trumpet or gave you this clarity.
Ryan Rosillo
And I was like, this is the
Danny Cannell
worst part of my day. And you want to. Am I thanking her every month for this? I don't understand. But, like, they were. They had a totally different view of
Ryan Rosillo
it than I did.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah. It's interesting that they don't. Like, guitar's not one of those things. Like, why couldn't I learn to play guitar in high school? You know? Like, why is it.
Danny Cannell
It sounds like more of a club.
Kyle Cerutti
It's all the classical instruments. You know, big wind, drums. Could I play drums? I couldn't play drums in high school. Big wind now I was in the big horn. Dude.
Danny Cannell
That's what they call me.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
I gotta tell you, I just love throwing big in front of anything now.
Danny Cannell
It's just so great, isn't it, Roi? Yeah. More often than not, it's like, Atlanta,
Ryan Rosillo
it's going to be over soon. But like, ever since, like, the big pharma awareness, just throwing big in front of something, it works, it plays. It's been playing now for a little while. Yeah. Mix it into your routine.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
Base two. Clearly a base two. I probably could go down and do a scale right now if I wanted to, but I don't know, man. That's going to live forever.
Danny Cannell
So.
Ryan Rosillo
So I might not do it. I'm actually not going to do it. But, yeah, I had an absurd, absurd, low, deep singing voice. I could hit all those notes down there.
Kyle Cerutti
Damn.
Danny Cannell
To a murder.
Kyle Cerutti
Old murder, man.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, yeah. People thought I was doing a fake voice when I first was on the air. They're like, no way. No fucking way. Like, this guy is a fake voice.
Kyle Cerutti
Well, if you came out with some sort of, like, music collab situation, then you'd be more like Kendall. So maybe that's head down that path.
Ryan Rosillo
Well done. Well done. All right. The only child. Hatred needs to stop. I think that's directed at me. Wonder who that's coming from. Longtime listener here. I'm writing in to express some frustration that I've had for the past several months over the group's disdain for someone who's an only child. I guess all of us are whenever. An only child. Yeah, yeah. Oh, no, I've brought it up. I've brought it up.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
I think there have been life advice emails. I'd be like, are you an only child? And Then some guys usually will, like, follow up and be like, yes, I am. Or like, the one guy, Remember, the one guy was like, mad about his roommate setup, and I was like, you sound like you have, like, two older sisters or whatever. He's like, I can't. But he goes, I have two older sisters, and there's like a huge gap. Yeah, I could tell. I mean, look, doesn't mean I'm gonna get it right all the time. But, like, sometimes I can tell based on personalities. Like, you had two older sisters that, like, babied the shit out of you. I think you're a little soft. And then it's like, oh, it all adds up. All right, so back to the email. Whenever an only child is brought up during life advice, there's a collective agreement that someone with no siblings tends to be a loser. I don't think loser. I think just very defined characteristics. As an only child myself,
Danny Cannell
like, you're predisposed to things. It doesn't mean you're going to get, you know, that disease that your grandfather had. But I think you're predisposed to certain things also. It's sometimes a bit so sometimes too.
Ryan Rosillo
As an only child myself, I heavily disagree with your sentiments. I would like to share some perspective that will hopefully change your minds, especially Rosillo's. Although Ryan does have siblings, his current lifestyle is extremely similar to that of an only child. Growing up with no siblings, you learn to appreciate being alone. There isn't someone around your age you can constantly turn to or interact with as a child. As I've gotten older, I realized that being an only child has made me very comfortable being alone by myself. Sometimes I actually prefer it. I feel that this perfectly represents Ryan's saying of I'd rather be alone than annoyed. Might be a slight shift on that philosophy. But Ryan, you may not think about it, but you are living the life of a mature only child. Us only children aren't weirdos desperate for attention. Like, you may think we are independent and can handle situations such as solo dinners, travel, movies. Just some perspective I wanted to share. I tend to agree with the group's suggestions, but your opinions on being an only child are disappointing. I hope Ryan can reflect upon this and accept he is one of us. I also rip to Oregon and would love to see a Zach Kyle swap for an episode.
Danny Cannell
I don't think that the criticism usually comes from, like, being weird. I think sometimes it's like you're not playing well with others. I think that's more where that criticism comes in it's like you're not interacting well with others, where it's like you're having a hard time when this thing is not 100% going your way. This is just specific to some emails we get. And then Ryan. I think Ryan knows he riles up the only children out there, and so he goes a little bit harder once we get on that topic. But, you know, we're just saying sometimes you're predisposed to certain actions by not having to share.
Ryan Rosillo
As a kid, I've had some serious relationships, only children. And there's just things that you'll notice that'll be different. Okay. But the same way. Like, as I mentioned, the younger brother scenario with two older sisters that just ran them into the ground. Like, all of us can have great things about us based on where we are in the sibling chart. I think because I'm the oldest and there's such a massive gap between the youngest to the oldest, that I tend to care. You could even say, worry about them a little bit more because I feel like I'm somehow their protector, even if it's sort of absurd because we don't live together anymore. But if something happens to one of my siblings, it devastates me. And I don't know if I were the youngest. I'm not saying that the youngest doesn't have that same compassion, but I might be more predisposed to how much RAM
Danny Cannell
has that taken up for them, you know?
Ryan Rosillo
Right, right.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
You know, the middle child thing is the one that's always sort of fighting to be noticed, you know, like, all of these different things. I would just say whether it was a dating relationship. Kyle raises his hand. Where? Are you serious? Are you the oldest?
Kyle Cerutti
I'm the oldest, so that's what I was gonna say. Like, you and I, I don't think we have different oldest child qualities.
Ryan Rosillo
Okay.
Kyle Cerutti
I. Because, like, I'm one of three. I have two younger sisters. My youngest is classic youngest. She's funny, she's outgoing, whatever you got. My middle is classic middle. And I think I have some oldest qualities. Like, I do like to kind of, like, do things on my own, like, not be bothered. I can be babied. I'm probably my mom's favorite. My sister will probably laugh at that and say, you're definitely your mom's favorite. But I don't know. Like, you and I. I don't think you and I, we are different. Like, we are older, oldest, and different. Whereas I think, like, only child only really means, like, you kind of only know like the, the world kind of has always revolved around you. Right.
Ryan Rosillo
Yes.
Kyle Cerutti
Whereas I think that, that, that there's. And there's varying degrees of that. Like our friend Michelle Smallman, only child. There's some things that I feel like I. Oh, yeah, there's an only child come out of you, but she's also
Ryan Rosillo
like, very self aware. I'd forgotten. And she's. She doesn't ever think that she's an only child. Yeah.
Kyle Cerutti
So, yeah, I think there's, you know, it's a scale.
Ryan Rosillo
You can beat anything.
Danny Cannell
You can beat it.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah.
Kyle Cerutti
You can overcome. Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
It's like, look, I would say the downside of it that I have noticed time and time again is that there is a bit of, like, there's. There's. It feels like there's less empathy. Okay. And there are times that I've noticed where it's like, hey, do you not realize, like. And that that person maybe never had to realize it because they just. And it's not necessarily their fault. And it doesn't mean that only children or, excuse me, only children are worse than the oldest or the youngest or all that kind of stuff. It's that we all have some things that we maybe are more likely to kind of develop. And I don't want to call it selfish because that's not entirely fair, but there have been some times, at least in my experiences where there's some selfish tendencies where I don't even think the person is a selfish person. It's just kind of a default setting of like, I'm usually going to get my way. Because that's what's happened. Yeah. For my entire life.
Danny Cannell
There's a difference between correlation and causation. Right? We're talking correlation here.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Danny Cannell
What you just wore before, did I do, Was that like.
Kyle Cerutti
No, I was just. No, I was just impressed by you. By you dropping out. That, that, that knowledge. Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
Don't say that phrase at the vfw.
Kyle Cerutti
Okay. You know.
Ryan Rosillo
Okay. Rosilla is a hypocrite about bulking, aging, and NBA big men love hearing all the times a year how Ryan has injured himself during working out trying to maintain his bulk. Well, more of it's now fighting, but not like really fighting. Sparring. Sparring against people that could kill me. Okay. But they're paid by me as coaches, so they don't really get to kill
Danny Cannell
me on the ball between the buoys.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah. Although I've said, hey, you know, you gotta start like punishing me a little bit more here, buddy. Like, you can't let me get away with this shit. Like, when I get cracked in the nose and I, like, stop for a second, and then they stop, and I'm like, you can't stop. Like, I'm mad at myself, and that's why I just stopped you.
Kyle Cerutti
I'm hit you again.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, you gotta break me of this habit, because there is no stopping. You don't get just to go, hey, timeout. All right. That's an aside fair.
Danny Cannell
I wonder if guys ever try that. Like, a real street fight. I wonder if guys ever try a timeout. I've never seen, like, a timeout. I've seen, like, other guys, like, right, we're gonna get you guys off each other. But, like, one guy says, timeout, time out.
Ryan Rosillo
Young kids go, like, you're gonna kick.
Danny Cannell
Like, right? Yeah, maybe kids.
Ryan Rosillo
All right. And again, this is just working out, by the way. This is not like me rolling into some badass gym in Torrance being like, hey, new guys in town. All right, so gets hurt all the time. Then he has the audacity to get on Embiid and Anthony Davis for keeping their bulk when the model big man Tim Duncan lost weight in his older years. Maybe try to follow Tim Duncan's lead and what you preach and slim down as you approach 50 to ease the stress on your joints. Otherwise, don't complain about Embiid and Anthony Davis. Don't complain about the Embiid's and ads of the world when you would also rather try to have bulk. Cheers.
Danny Cannell
This was bait. This was bait.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Danny Cannell
This was bait.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
I mean, do we even need to address how fucking dumb that email is?
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah. I mean, do we want to just point out, like, the obvious fact that you don't get paid to play, to fight people or to do Muay Thai? And these guys do, and your job is to be interesting about talking about them.
Ryan Rosillo
I'm not taking up 30% of your cap. Coming back out of shape every single year, never being able to finish a season and dooming millions of fans favorite team's chances. I think there's a slight difference.
Kyle Cerutti
I think. I do think we've gotten obsessed as a. And I'm part of this problem. We've gotten obsessed with, like, pointing out hypocrisy in all parts of life where, like, now we don't even know what it even means or where it applies properly. And this is a perfect example of, like, that doesn't make any sense. Like, I even asked you. I've joked. I mean, I forget what we were talking about. Remember When I was like, what's your goal? Because you're talking about some sort of lifting. What do you try? Because I so I. I've thought about it, like, why are you still, like lifting to get big? What is the goal? Are you always trying to get bigger? Are you trying to maintain? Because I don't know. So I think it's fair to be like, what the hell is Ryan doing? But then to be like, actually, then you can't critique Anthony Davis or Joel Embiid is just like, all right, now
Ryan Rosillo
you're just a troll.
Kyle Cerutti
So sorry, dude.
Ryan Rosillo
I didn't think that was a great email, but I liked reading it. Why aren't you a guest on Dan Patrick? More this show and Dan Patrick show are really all I have in consent rotation these days. I can't stand most of the sports talk shows anymore. To me, you are the two most authentic people talking sports. This is very nice, even though sometimes both of y' all have some bozos on as guests. But I get it. Whoa.
Kyle Cerutti
Name names you.
Ryan Rosillo
I'm almost 40, so Dan Patrick is a legend to me. As I grew up loving SportsCenter, I locked in a DP show around 2017 full time. I'll be honest, I never really listened or watched you with SVP. I started listening to the show around 21 and enjoyed your interviews on PMT. Anyway, I guess I see a lot of perils between you and Dan Patrick. I like how y' all ventured off of ESPN and built something special without them and y' all do it without the hot take theatrics. It'd be cool to hear a story or two about Yalls relationship and if I and if you get him on, I had him on the pod and I'll just tell you it was kind of that episode. And I also know that he hates doing everybody else's pod, especially when the guy's cranking out five days a week all the time. Like even me doing three, sometimes four things a week, I don't really feel like doing a lot of other stuff. So I think I've told myself I was never going to ask him again to do it. I love going on with him, but also like the times that I've gone on with him, it was kind of like, hey, can you do this at 7am and then one time I was like, at the finals and even I was like, I don't know if I can even fit this in because it's him. And I'll tell Fritz. I'm like, hey, you know, I'll do whatever I can for Dan, like, for the rest of my life, because. But I didn't have. We were not tight at espn. He was kind of on the way out as I was coming in. I thought, like, he and Kilbourne are my two favorite anchors ever. We don't. We're not, like, buddies. But I do always think of sending him a text every now and then. Just not, like, something that'd be very classic to me and, like, not make any sense. Like, I almost sent her a picture of me taking shots, like, around July 4th, and was, like, thinking about you on 250, which is insane because I wouldn't be thinking about Dan Patrick. But I. Sometimes I'm tempted to do that kind of stuff because I have the relationship with other people. But look, I love Dan. I love Dan to death. It's just likely a scheduling thing. But I. I know when I go on with him, like, I want to do a great job. I want him to be psyched that I came on as a guest because I just. Look, he wasn't just a great sports center anchor. His radio show, when I was driving around before I even worked at espn. And then, like, that jump from being in my truck listening to him every single day, and then four years later trying out there. You want to talk about the timeline of your life and that. I don't know that I've ever had anything close to that quick of a jump from that moment to then four years later. And then you start going like, oh, this is going to be normal. You host in the fucking Grammys a couple years, which I would be terrible at.
Kyle Cerutti
Wait, did you overlap in radio with
Ryan Rosillo
him then when I was doing fill in stuff? Yeah, yeah, he was done.
Kyle Cerutti
I think in what, 07 was he done?
Danny Cannell
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
So if I look it up, man, that might be right on the number,
Kyle Cerutti
because before I got there, I just know that I was there in 11.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, because when he left radio,
Danny Cannell
It
Ryan Rosillo
was like, big deal, man. I mean, obviously it was a huge deal. But I remember everybody kind of, like, milling around the office and the radio cubicles. You're like, what happened? And there was some story about how, like, somebody flew internationally to go meet with him, and he was like, nope. And then he just knew. And by the way, what he did on his own versus me just joining a podcast company, they cannot be compared. Like, he was doing real pioneer shit. I just was part of the wave of what had already happened, so. But, yeah, I think he had a little.
Danny Cannell
Kendall would never say some shit like that. So you're definitely not Kendall.
Kyle Cerutti
That is.
Danny Cannell
But.
Ryan Rosillo
Well, look, it's true. It's true. When we talk about what guys have done and put a flag in and stuff or. Somebody was trying to compare me to McAfee and I was like, I don't look at myself. McAfee came from a position where he already was known, first of all. And so there was an easier transition for him because of who he was. But that also allowed him to call his shots in a way that very few people could ever call their shots. And it's worked out fabulously for him. And, you know, I always admire shit like that. So I don't think every single guy that like, leaves. Yeah, you could argue he, in an odd way, like, sort of reverse engineered it because he, like then teams up with the big guy, which is the best thing you can ever do. Like, when ESPN wants you, when they don't have you, you are going to do so much better than when they already have you.
Kyle Cerutti
Absolutely.
Ryan Rosillo
All right, Where is. All right, this is the one we get a lot of. Where is Kyle and Cerutty's relationship outside of the show?
Kyle Cerutti
Hmm.
Danny Cannell
That tells you all you need to know.
Ryan Rosillo
No, I'm just kidding.
Kyle Cerutti
I would say there is probably room for more. It was that fair to say. Kyle?
Danny Cannell
Totally.
Kyle Cerutti
And I thought, you know, I thought about this summer. I've been like, hey, like, you're close. Like before you used to be in la. So I was like, hey, I'm not. Like, I hang out with Kyle when
Danny Cannell
I go out there and now think about this too. I was like, should I know what you're gonna say?
Kyle Cerutti
I was like, should I have met Kyle and Danbury? Should we had a day together? Like, I do. I have thought about these things. I will say it's not an excuse, but I will say it is a little bit difficult with two kids. There's some schedules going on. We got swim lessons in the afternoons and different things going on. But yeah, like, I don't know. I think Kyle and I have always been cool. Like, it's. Are we, like, do I know all the. Is Kyle gonna hit me up about like, serious life stuff? Probably not. I'm also like a hard person. Like, I don't. I. I am close with like five people and I just, I just kind of have a limit and not that, like break into that or something, but like. And they're. And they're like long time dudes. And I'm not even including Ryan in that. I guess Ryan would, would kind of be in that category too. You maybe be the sixth guy. But.
Ryan Rosillo
But my sort of different.
Kyle Cerutti
I'm sort of at. I'm sort of like at a capacity with like really close friends. And then I'm. And I'm. And I'm not like a social butterfly in any situation to be like, hey, let's go hang. Let's go to a yard goes game. Let me meet you halfway. I'm just like bad at that stuff. So I guess like my self report card could be. I. It could be better. But like, there, there are absolutely times when I'm like, man, like I would have like when I was younger and like, whatever, like Kyle and I chopping it up, it would have been a lot of fun. But it just. I feel like I don't know that I'm at that point in my life.
Danny Cannell
Yeah, I mean, he was, he started as a. We were always remote co workers. Never had. Have not been that right. He started like coming in as my boss and like we did. He did like a tiptoe around me. I was actually really happy to have like, I mean, Ryan was talking about him forever and like, I was happy to have like a boss sort of like to put one between me and one of the higher ups that I liked. So I kind of. He was always like, dude, I'm not trying to step on any toes. And I tried to break through that pretty quick. I was like, no, dude, absolutely not. This is great. And honestly, I think we worked really well together at our last stop and then I think we talked like almost every day during the transition here during that summer and stuff. So. Yeah. And then every time we're. We're in like a city for either with that core week stuff or we'd go on a, on a travel thing, it's like, you know, I don't want to say fast friends, but it's like, I guess you could say like, it's like we picked up right where we left off. And he's always, he's. He's always asking me because I think he knows I got the. I got the late night burn the late night oil in me everywhere we go. And he's usually getting off a flight. He's always like, all right, we'll find. What day do you want to do it?
Kyle Cerutti
I try to get this one.
Danny Cannell
Is it going to be the next one? He gives me a choice as soon as we get there. So like, he's a good friend to me. And I think now that we're, you know, we're an hour or two away from something that we could both go to. I think it'll happen more. But again, father of two, totally get it.
Kyle Cerutti
I think that's fair.
Ryan Rosillo
Next email. Kyle, where does upstate start? Kyle, where do you believe upstate New York starts? I'm from southern Westchester and resented whenever someone would call that upstate. I personally use Poughkeepsie, New York, as the border. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. And I also bought the Rosillo Sauvignon Blanc as a wedding gift. Still available, by the way. Saw, we just got another case over here at the house. All right, so. Yeah, Kyle, you take this one. I have no idea.
Danny Cannell
I softened on this over the years. I used to. I used to resent it as well. And then I went to college with. I mean, you can't tell a New York City person anything. Listen, if I'm like. If I'm in a. In a bar in this. In this mid Hudson Valley area or I'm talking to somebody from the. Yeah, maybe. Well, I'll get a little bit more intricate or nuanced about where the line should be, but if I'm talking to somebody from New York City, I'm just like, yeah, man, whatever.
Kyle Cerutti
You're right.
Danny Cannell
Because, I mean, now there's, like, there's gift shops around the Vassar College area here. And in the window, they've got all these T shirts and shirts that say upstate and chill. And I'm like, all right, this is in my own backyard. They have. They've resigned to this. Upstate. I can. I'll say, like, the mid Hudson Valley. I try to. You know, I went to school upstate New York. That was my whole thing. It's like, how can I drive five plus hours and that's still upstate New York from where I left? So, you know, you can't tell a New York City guy anything. I'd say probably above Westchester. It's upstate. To anyone in New York City, it's all this fucking sticks to them anyway, you know? So, sure, I live in upstate New York. I live in the mid Hudson Valley. I live in the crown jewel. And I guess I also live in upstate.
Kyle Cerutti
Well, so if you Google upstate New York, they'll give you a map. And Poughkeepsie is not in that little red zone. It's just south of it. Starts at, like, one stock.
Danny Cannell
Sure, yeah. Below Albany, all that stuff. I don't know. And then Albany's still four or five hours from the top of New York
Ryan Rosillo
State, so it's like, whatever.
Danny Cannell
Then you get into that weird western New York part, I don't even know. So, yeah, I guess I'm upstate.
Ryan Rosillo
Did we already address why Kyle is voicing the Affleck intro on Netflix as opposed to the way it plays out on audio?
Danny Cannell
I don't know if we tried to.
Kyle Cerutti
I tried to bring that up the other day. I thought we. I thought we did. Basically, we just. Yeah, we don't have the rights to it.
Ryan Rosillo
I don't even know if we should
Kyle Cerutti
say this out loud, but, yeah, yeah, Ben.
Danny Cannell
Unfortunately, Ben's a bill guy. Yeah.
Kyle Cerutti
$2 billion. And we said no. And, yeah, that was just kind of like the legal workaround. So honestly, sounds better.
Danny Cannell
And I was like, if it sucks, like, let's not do it. And I didn't know because it's my own voice. It's. Rudy was like, that's way better than I thought you were gonna do.
Kyle Cerutti
So it was good.
Danny Cannell
So long story short, it was good enough, I guess.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
I love this one because I think there's, like a list of stories where I was almost tempted to go over them with Ceru and be like, okay, like, I don't probably. I don't need to tell the story about how Danny Ange told me cap space is pointless anymore. And there's a few of those, which obviously now means you guys are just going to hit up the emails and be like, here's a story you don't have to tell anymore. But there was. There was a thing once with Mike and Mike where they did this study. And I think it's bullshit. I think they just did it to motivate us and stuff. It was like something absurd was. It was like 75% of Mike and Mike's audience is within the last six months. But then they kept saying it. I was like, this would be like 4 billion people would be watching this show if we kept doing compound numbers on this. It doesn't. There's no way that makes any sense. And it was obviously just a monster, monster of a show. But the point was, is that if people are only with you for 15 minutes, if these shows are growing at this rate. And look, the show did incredibly well, but it just was an impossible setup. It was just the math on that. I'm like, there's no way the show's been on for how many years and you're trying to tell me that three quarters of the audience is just finding out about them in the last six years and then that just adds to whatever? Like, no. And I remember, like, somebody said it in a meeting once, and then middle Managers couldn't stop fucking repeating it and it would go on for like, years.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah, it's like a. But it's like the Merrill advance and Rip thing. It's like someone just made it up and then it just. Then it just became a thing for a while.
Danny Cannell
That guy is a legend. Whoever got that to stick, that guy's a fucking legend.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, I know.
Danny Cannell
You go anywhere in the country and the guys will be like, yeah, I heard that too. You know why I did it?
Ryan Rosillo
It's like, it's crazy. It's crazy. It's crazy how this stuff starts that. You're right.
Kyle Cerutti
Like, who even told. Like, who? I don't even. Like, Imagine like the origin story of who' first person to tell you that too. Like, I don't even like who told me that.
Danny Cannell
Imagine if you tried that with different guys and then like, Marilyn was the one that got it to stick.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, he's like, he did it with Neil.
Danny Cannell
Bill Clinton did that too. And it's like no one believed him.
Ryan Rosillo
But yeah, that's great. That's smart, Kyle. I like that. So we've sometimes. But the podcasting thing is different. You're not listening to me for 15 minutes, you know, and if the podcast thing's even more intimate than me just being an option on the station that you're listening to because you like the lineup or, you know, more importantly, probably hate all the other lineups back when you were at espn. So this is an ESPN story that we have brought up a few times. The Canal Putting Wendy's on Blast story gets told every year or two. I remember when it happened. It's a memorable story. And laugh, I guess. We were drafting what fast foods. We were trying to figure out a new way to. We changed it so many different times. We were trying to figure out a way to make that last five minute segment of the show be some sort of appointment listening thing, which is sort of the motivation behind life advice. Because I was like, we just need to end shows fun, but have some sort of appointment thing all the time. And we used to always try a million different things. And some reason, the radio thing, it never really felt like any of it clicked. But we got into the old drafting game, which is never necessarily a bad idea. We were drafting fast foods. And Cannell just was like, wendy's, their fries suck.
Kyle Cerutti
Or like trash fries. Was the director's direct.
Ryan Rosillo
Tough.
Kyle Cerutti
Wendy's trash fries. Yeah, it was like, I think we did later.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, not a great idea. So the email continues, however, never sits right with me. That Canelo gets the full brunt of it. I don't know the intricacies of the podcast producer responsibilities, but I've always suspected that good chunk of blame falls on Cerutty. Surely with a top 10 french fries segment, it's not a producer to be in the co host ear with a firm. Keep in mind that Wendy's is a sponsor. I repeat, Wendy's is a sponsor on my mind because I'm at Wendy's, an unsponsored fast food establishment, eating soggy fries and appreciating Danny speaking the truth. P.S. i love cerutty, but the everybody hates Cerutty angle does make for funny content, even though that's kind of what that email was.
Kyle Cerutti
No, I actually think you're. He's right. I don't remember though. I don't think we were drafting, like, I don't know. I don't remember what the origin of it was. Like if it was a straight like, hey, yeah, we're drafting fast food things. I probably could have been like, hey, don't trash our sponsors. You're the three of them. Like kind of be nice to them. I don't remember what the actual premise was for it though, so I could be wrong. It feels like it came kind of out of nowhere.
Ryan Rosillo
It's on us, the people talking. Okay, on that one, that is 100% on us.
Kyle Cerutti
That's not.
Ryan Rosillo
If you knew the dynamic and how that worked. I mean, yeah, maybe like a 20 year producer goes, hey, if you're doing this, let's make sure there's no sponsors on that. Ceru's role at that time at ESPN Radio on that show, he would not have been expected. Now granted, if we got into trouble then Cerutty probably would have gotten yelled at. Although they didn't mind yelling at Canelo and they certainly weren't afraid to tell me that I wasn't great.
Kyle Cerutti
But I actually don't think it was Danny's fault either because he didn't really do the reads on that show. So he wouldn't, you know, he probably doesn't. Is he listening to every single read that you got that you would do? Probably not. You were doing most of the stuff like what you.
Ryan Rosillo
I mean, we shouldn't even be doing it now because we don't know. Wendy's might come to the sales guys with a buy or something.
Kyle Cerutti
We love Wendy's.
Danny Cannell
Well, if they do that, please Burgers around.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, it's the only one.
Danny Cannell
Spicy nuggets.
Ryan Rosillo
Come on. Well, I shouldn't even say that you want to have an open mind about sponsors you don't even have. Right. You want to be nice about even potential sponsors. So it's not great business to be on the air trashing any brands whatsoever. So I just. You have to trust me on this. Actually was not in a position at that time to be telling Danny what he shouldn't be doing, actually.
Kyle Cerutti
And now I think about it too. I think we were dressed. I think. I think it was a draft of things that we liked. Somebody said, wendy's fries. And then he said, oh, those trash fries. Like, it was not a negative sign segment. Now that I'm. Now that I'm.
Danny Cannell
First of all, who would say Wendy's fries?
Kyle Cerutti
Dude, I don't know.
Danny Cannell
I love Wendy's.
Ryan Rosillo
I think even Wendy would admit, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Cerutti
That's like Burger King. Like, now you see their new ad pitches. Like, yeah, our food used to suck. Our bad. It's better now.
Danny Cannell
Dude. The CEO is like out, and I
Kyle Cerutti
kind of respect it.
Ryan Rosillo
Although at the same time, it's. It's like my whole real chicken brand where it's like no one should be psyched about you saying, hey, it's real chicken now.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah, they're making it's 100 real cheese now
Ryan Rosillo
campaign.
Danny Cannell
All right.
Ryan Rosillo
1980s Contra. I got it. Hostages. You want to sit there and tell me it's real chicken in 1980? I might go, oh, hey, this is great. Whoever did it in 2021. I was like, this is fucking stupid. All right, last one here. This one might be a little deeper, I guess.
Danny Cannell
All right.
Ryan Rosillo
Ryan's self awareness spiral. Hey, gang. 27, 5, 10, 180, 250 bench, 365 squat. Been clocking into 39 minute 10K. That's five miles. Shadow, Oregon.
Danny Cannell
Damn
Ryan Rosillo
sure, I think that's good.
Danny Cannell
Just thinking about if I had to do it.
Ryan Rosillo
10k is not five bucks. No, it's 3.6.2.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
Is a 5k 3.1. Yeah. Sorry, my bad. Feedback is simple. Ryan is so self aware, it's almost to his detriment. I agree. Self awareness is probably your biggest ally in socially navigating the world. And Ryan is the final boss of it. He's aware of how he's being perceived and he's aware that he's aware of it. Philosophers could be stumped by that one. Ryan builds counterarguments to almost every point he makes is if he already knows the pushback before anyone says anything. Same with flexing about his own life or career. He could Brag, but doesn't because he was already thinking about what people could come at him for. Sounding arrogant. Ryan is playing social awareness chess out here and I've always wondered if he is actively thinking about this or knows it about himself. Well, clearly, if I'm that self aware, or is it naturally built up from people tearing apart every possible Take love, the pod girlfriend is Kyle's number one fan.
Danny Cannell
You just addressed hearing shit like that.
Ryan Rosillo
Good one to end on.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Danny Cannell
You talked about. I don't know if this was on or off air. Was this in something that we've banked. I can't remember where it was, but this was like in the last 48 hours, 24 hours you were talking about this.
Ryan Rosillo
Okay, I'll do two parts on this. Obviously, Part one is that social media has made all of us to talk for a living, different, and I would argue at times worse.
Kyle Cerutti
All right.
Ryan Rosillo
Because what you're doing is I watch a game, I think about the game, and then I immediately know the 10 different things that people will say. And unfortunately, and it's a habit that I've told myself that'll break, but I have not broken the habit, is that it's like, just make your fucking point, man. Just make your point. All right. So I think the social media part of this, where you just know that that's what people, their desires are. Is there any possible way somebody got something wrong or left something out? Let me get my fucking two cents in. Because whoever is doing that constantly, every single day, I actually kind of like feel bad for you. Right. So that is something that is very common with all of us that talk for a living. There is a shift once we all started paying attention to social media, where you started building up defenses before you actually built up the offense of whatever you wanted your point to be, if that makes any sense. I would say the second part, though, is kind of who I've always been. So maybe it's amplified by social media. But I always felt like if I were going to present this argument, hey, this is how I feel. Because I know I get criticized for this. I'm going to present the opposing argument to try to present it, acknowledge it. Not because of the social media part of it, just because I think, like in natural debate that would be something that you would want to prepare for. So I like saying, hey, this is how I feel. But it could also be this, this, this, or this. Because there are very few things as I've aged that I feel like are as definitive as we want them to be. Unfortunately, with this job, you're supposed to be incredibly definitive, which is maybe why I'm more of like a taste than I am the home run that I think people in programming would want. Like if I went and tried out right now somewhere, they might be like, hey, he's got a deep voice, we'll give him some Saturdays. But they would rather me come out and go, hey, you know, actually I can. Caleb Wilson is going to be more to the NBA than wembanyama could ever dream of programming. People be like, fucking give this guy a show. I would be like, well, I can't do that because I don't believe it. And it's absurd and there's no chance it could possibly be true. But if I were leaning that way, I'd say, hey, I think Caitlin, I don't think this, but like, hey, I think Caleb Wilson, like, you know, there's some things here that are so special. Like I could see this. But then I would have to kind of dismantle what would be an absurd out there position that almost no one else would ever have. Because I just think it's disingenuous to not even acknowledge what, what the opposite side of the argument could be. So, you know, at times when I've, I've heard or seen someone say like, you know, in the monologues, which are too long, you know, I'm trying to get better at it, but I, I know how like that's the other thing is you can just kind of just. You could destroy anything you want to say. Like somebody says something and just go, oh, is that how you really feel? Is that the real reason? And it just like sounds good and it's just like you can't really defend against it. But I don't know, I would never want to not acknowledge a counterargument to the argument that I'm making. But I generally do end up closing on the point. But maybe it's just not as in your face or as harsh or pushed on you in a way where I'm unmoving because I feel like that's a very closed off way to think even if it's better for doing this job. And to add to that on like the bragging thing, I mean this I don't and serious going to know this is true. But I, I've had a really good run, but I'm, I'm less impressed with myself than you could ever imagine. Okay, so there's a lot of things that I don't know if I'll ever get to do them or not. This has been fun and I have a great living and I have a really good life and all that kind of stuff. But yeah, I think sports podcasting on the life option chart, you know, like, this is good. I've got nothing to complain about, but I'm not. Like, I don't. You know, I'm basically a fucking movie critic for sports, which I would rather be.
Danny Cannell
Yeah, there's a world where you're writing the movie DJ in Jamaica, right? I mean, that never happened.
Ryan Rosillo
It's probably top five. Then. What's up? No, I don't think I'd want to be a dj. Although, fuck you go to these things, dude.
Danny Cannell
The hours seem awesome. The work hours seem pretty sick.
Ryan Rosillo
The hours, yeah. But you got to make a decision. Like Diplo, it was very clear, he was like, I'm going to get into running and some fitness stuff. Like, I can't keep this going anymore. I'm not saying that I want to be a DJ or I wish I were a pro athlete or all that kind of shit, because whatever. I mean, that'd be ridiculous to sit there and dwell on those kinds of things. But I would rather have done something in a creative way that maybe stands out a little bit more than this. And that's the truth. So that's why I don't think I'm very confident. I have an ego, but I don't think I'm like the shit day to day because the show does well to
Kyle Cerutti
the point about just having to set up every argument. I do think it is annoying because I feel like the audience, and I'm not meaning to criticize the audience, but like, there's a lot of stuff out there, not our audience. I mean, some audiences are dumb, but like, they're. The audience has never been, never felt more confident in arguing something that they probably have seen or read less about. Like in this is sports, this is politics, this is everything. Like, you can watch 90 seconds of an hour long interview taken totally out of context of someone saying something and form an entire opinion about what that person is and what they stand for. And then you listen to the entire thing in context and you're like, like. Because I know out of context is like, all right, yeah, like, some people use this a cop out. But like, a lot of times I think context does matter. And so it's very easy to listen to somebody say something in a clip and be like, oh, that's wrong. Here's what's wrong. This is stupid. And just pick the entire thing Apart, that's very easy to do. Everyone does that. But to do a 10 minute segment on your own where you're having to basically take account for those people, say something interesting, be kind of funny. Like that's a really hard thing to do. Like, I struggle with it. I don't even like doing it. Like I remember dipping my toe into like the content thing and the stuff that I did with scaling. I just didn't feel comfortable in life saying something every day. I like saying something when I have something to say. But like that's why it's. If you're, if you're doing a show, if you're like Ryan or Dan Patrick or cowherd, like we can make fun of some of those guys, but like that's a hard job. You're going to make mistakes, you're going to say dumb shit, you're going to say stuff that's wrong. And for some reason like we, we don't let anyone just like be wrong. It has to be some bigger picture thing about how dumb they are, how seriously they take themselves. And like, I'm just like, can we just all collectively kind of calm down? I get caught up into it too. Like I'll watch a clip or read something out of context and be like, look at this idiot. And then like you kind of get put back in your place later when you realize that like, oh, this is the bigger thing of what they were saying or actually that's not who that, that's not what they are, that's not what they're about. So I don't like have a solution for it. I just think it's really hard to be like a content person in today's day and age because everyone wants to tell you how stupid you are all the time because it's easy every single day.
Ryan Rosillo
And you have to figure out a way to get through that. You're going to drive yourself crazy.
Danny Cannell
You know one thing, I put my hand up here for guys that think I'm stupid. I know we're not getting back into the time codes thing here. Just I'm not going to explain what. While we're at it, I'm not going to re explain what dynamically ad insertion is, but I've just been guessing. Now I take whatever time it is in my little Pro Tools file and I throw 30 to 45 seconds ahead of it. I like that. Now I'm doing like five second intervals and zero. But I don't know what ads are going to be randomly put in there. Sometimes they're 30 seconds. Sometimes they're longer than that. So if you're. If you're frustrated that you have to click around a little bit on the shows that have the DAI ads, you can look up what that means. I'm now just, I'm guessing a little bit further ahead, but, you know, it's going to be what it's going to be. There's really no. Even if I know what they are, one day they will change the ad the next day and it'll be wrong.
Kyle Cerutti
So we wish it was easier. Yeah, exactly.
Danny Cannell
I'm not quite as much of a fool as you think. I am now giving it nicer numbers. I liked it to end in a five or a zero, so I think it just looks better in the description. But, yeah, you're going to have to click around a little bit. Sorry about that.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, I had a buddy that used to press like 92 on the microwave instead of 90, and I was like, what are you doing? And he goes, you're just going to wear out your zeros and fives, man.
Kyle Cerutti
Wow.
Ryan Rosillo
You want to talk about that? Guys are funny there.
Kyle Cerutti
Oh, my God.
Ryan Rosillo
Yeah, yeah. 22nd tortilla. How about 19?
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
I couldn't believe. I've never stopped thinking. That would ruin my 30 years.
Danny Cannell
That's just a guy whose brain works differently. I do that stuff. Those are the guys we should be, you know, putting in the space program. Who knows what we're missing by not having those kind of brains.
Kyle Cerutti
I have ocd. That would fuck my day up. I can't, like, the volume always has to be even. Number 60 seconds.
Ryan Rosillo
67. I get 64.
Kyle Cerutti
I'll over. I'll overheat something just to get it done. If it's on an even number and I'm just like, I gotta let it finish.
Ryan Rosillo
Well, that's just. You guys would have.
Kyle Cerutti
I have ocd. There's, like, a good podcast.
Ryan Rosillo
You guys couldn't live together.
Kyle Cerutti
Yeah.
Ryan Rosillo
All right, that'll do it for Friday. Feedback. Thanks to everyone on the show. Ryan Rosslo Show, Barstow Sports. Sam.
Date: July 21, 2026
Host: Ryen Russillo (Barstool Sports)
Guests/Co-hosts: Kyle, Ceruti, Danny Cannell
This episode of The Ryen Russillo Show is dedicated to "Friday Feedback," where Ryen and his crew dive into listener emails and messages, responding openly and often humorously to questions both personal and sports-related. The team discusses everything from behind-the-scenes podcast dynamics, audience perceptions, and the quirks of being older siblings or only children, to recurring in-jokes, sports media impressions, and high-level self-awareness. There's also plenty of riffing about past show moments, including fast food drafts and famous sponsorship slip-ups.
Notable Quote:
Ryen (04:58): "If you guys want to do it, you have my full blessing."
Notable Quote:
Ryen (07:24): "I would say it was the worst. No offense to everyone... It's not anyone's fault. It's not Ole Miss's fault. It's certainly not anyone on the production side. Elizabeth is an absolute champ at everything..."
Notable Quotes:
Notable Quotes:
On Only Children:
Ryen (29:19): “There’s a bit of… less empathy. Not because only children are worse… [but] a default setting of, like, ‘I’m usually going to get my way.’”
On Podcasting vs. Radio:
Ryen (45:52): “The podcasting thing is different… you’re not listening to me for fifteen minutes. The podcast thing’s even more intimate than me just being an option on the station.”
On Industry Legends:
Ryen (36:17): “He [Dan Patrick] wasn’t just a great SportsCenter anchor. His radio show… when I was driving around before I even worked at ESPN… four years later [I’m] trying out there. You wanna talk about timeline of your life... I don’t know if I’ve ever had anything close to that quick of a jump.”
On Self-Awareness:
Ryen (52:35): “Social media has made all of us who talk for a living different, and I would argue at times, worse. I watch a game, I immediately know the ten different things people will say. And unfortunately, it’s a habit that I have not broken: just make your fucking point, man.”
This episode is a perfect representation of the show’s blend of sports, pop culture, and personal banter—self-aware, a little rambly, but always honest and funny. Even returning bits and backstage stories are delivered with enough context and humor for listeners, new and returning, to feel “in on it.”
