Sage Steele
to my friend Adam Carolla.
Adam Carolla
Oh, I'm much better at this thing at 62 than I was at 52. I played a lot of sports and I cannot say that about any sport. I'm not declaring something better or worse. I am saying I've been drunk, I've had sex. Had sex drunk. But I still have my wits about me. When you get out of the car, I cannot tell you what I was thinking about for the last hour. I had no idea Gavin Newsom would be there. I had like, 22 seconds to figure out a question for him. I just go, why'd you close the beaches? And he's like, huh? And he's like, oh, we didn't know anything at the time. You didn't know anything? Why don't you just shut up then if you don't know anything?
Sage Steele
I've been to a couple shows and listen, I love it when people are uncomfortable. That means someone probably actually telling the truth.
Adam Carolla
The audiences have segregated, just like the comedians have gone.
Sage Steele
How long do you think you'll do it?
Adam Carolla
I'll do it as long as I can do it.
Sage Steele
Hello to my friend Adam Carolla, who somehow was stuck in traffic in Los Angeles. It's so weird. I thought that had gotten taken care of out there now.
Adam Carolla
No, it was a. Listen, I drove from Malibu to Burbank, so all the traffic for you, all the traffic that exists in la, I passed through it to get to you, My dear.
Sage Steele
Thank you so much. It means a lot. I loved getting any chance to talk to you. Last time was at dinner, though. It was bittersweet. Got to see you and your fiance, but it was during. It was day before, I think Charlie Kirk's memorial service in Arizona and oh my goodness, so much has happened since I've gotten to see you in person. Some of it good, a lot of it really crappy, I think around the country. And it's hard because I try to be a glass half full person. And then you try to balance that right now with a lot of of realities. I mean, it's fair to say you describe yourself as a glass half full person, right. ADAM Carolla
Adam Carolla
I'm a sort of realistic person. I don't know that I'm glass half full, but I'm not morose or depressing. I have a lot of stuff I like to do that has nothing to do with politics or society. And it's a real distraction. And I find myself thinking about those worlds a lot more than I think about the realm of politics and America and, you know, antifa and whatever, socialism, you know, I. All this stuff everyone thinks about, I think about it as well. But I also always have one foot in a very mechanical car race wrench build kind of world that keeps me sane. And so like I was on the way here today and I have a race coming up in like a month and I'm trying to get the car ready for the race. And I was on the phone all the way here just talking about car tires and stuff and pieces and stuff that you wouldn't know about that would bore you. But I wasn't thinking about politics or Los Angeles or Gavin Newsom. I was just thinking about prepping a car for a race.
Sage Steele
Tell me about the race. When is it?
Adam Carolla
Every year it's in Monterey. It's car week. It's the middle. It's the middle of the month. It's always somewhere around the middle of August, sometimes a little later, sometimes a little earlier. But whatever, that weekend is probably the, I don't know, August 13th through the 17th or something like that is car week in Monterey. Every car person from around the world shows up and they have all the big car auctions and all the expensive stuff and down on the lawn at pebble beach, the concourse and all the events and all the dinners. Literally everybody shows up to Monterey, but a certain group of people show up to the track at Laguna Seca and race. And that's sort of my group, although I do all the other stuff as well. But there's the track people, which is another subgroup of kind of crazy car people who actually want to race in the middle of the car car week versus look at. Look at car. So the trailers start showing up, all the race cars start showing up. The Crews start showing up. They're probably just about 550 cars, as far as I can tell. And then thousands of fans show up, and we do it all week.
Sage Steele
You know, one of the first things I ever covered as a young sports reporter actually was very much the first one, because I was during an internship. It was the Indy 500, and then that fall, the Brickyard 400. And I mean, my job was in Indianapolis, and I fell in love with all kinds of racing and the difference with IRL and IndyCart and all that stuff. And then my first ever driver interview was Dale Earnhardt Sr. Who took me aside for an hour and let me ask a million, like. So I got in to being like, almost a car geek. Not to your level, for sure, but the appreciation for what it takes and the entire team that it takes to get one car out there. So I don't know, I'm not going to be able to, like, go for that with you. About, like, the parts of the car, et cetera. But I have such an appreciation for. For it. And I get the obsession, too. Like, it is a. It's a complete escape. And if you're racing, you have to be all in on that or you're going to get hurt or somebody else is going to get hurt. So you're fully focused.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, you are fully focused. You really don't think about anything else. I think that is why people are attracted to it, because I think people have a kind of innate yearning to escape. And, you know, drugs do that for people. Sex does it sometimes, sexual addiction and drugs and. But skydiving does it for people, you know, and if you find, by the way, a lot of recovering addicts, they're into free climbing and BASE jumping and skydiving, and they swimming with the sharks. Like, they're. They may not be slamming heroin, but they're looking for something. And it's a mindset thing. It's kind of interesting. So they're like sort of escape people. And when you're in the car, when you're in the race car, it's more escape than I think any other. For me, at least. You know, you can get drunk and, you know, okay, it's an escape, but you know where you are. Like, you know what you're thinking. You're thinking about stuff. You're thinking about when you're sober. You know, sex is nice, but you're, you know, you'll glance over at the clock every once in a while just to see what. Just put a timestamp on it. You Know when you're in the car, it's all the car, all the time. There is no other. There's no other thoughts. You get out of the car, someone go, what were you thinking about? The answer is, I don't. Nothing. I don't have no recollection of anything I thought about other than.
Sage Steele
So sex is in second place in your world to car racing.
Adam Carolla
I would say first off, it makes the podium because the top three always make the podium. You know what I mean? So sex podiums. That's number one. Number two, I'm not declaring something better or worse. I am saying I've been drunk, I've had sex, had sex drunk. But I still have my wits about me. I could still tell you what I was thinking about when you get out of the car. I cannot tell you what I was thinking about for the last hour.
Sage Steele
That's amazing. That's amazing because you're just completely zoned out. What kind of cars are these? I didn't even ask you.
Adam Carolla
Well, you know, you say zoned out, but I think it's zoned in is.
Sage Steele
But the fact that nothing else. Yeah. There's nothing else can get in to distract you. Yes, yes.
Ad Voice/Commercial Break
Yes.
Adam Carolla
No. And it's also. It's loud. It's so loud that it really can't have even conversations with yourself. You know what I mean? But you can't. I think. I think a lot of it, too, is it's so loud that you can't hear. Like, there's a part of that that'll like a. Like a really loud white noise that'll just drown out thoughts. Even. I race in vintage racing, so I race old cars with other guys with old cars, but the old cars have all different classes. And there are, you know, there's old Trans Am cars from the 60s, late 60s. There's old F1 cars from the 70s and 80s. There's. There's really. There's essentially indie. They don't really. There's not much of an indie vintage class. There's. There's cars that ran Lamar, cars that ran Sebring, cars that ran Daytona. There's old, you know, sort of Ford v, Ferrari, like GT 40s and stuff like that. A lot of the cool, vintage 60s, 70s, 80s cars are. Who run in all the different categories, you know, sedans and, you know, there's all. There's. As you know, there's open wheel. Yeah. You're talking Indy cars or you're talking to Dale Earnhardt. You know what I mean? It's a totally different car.
Sage Steele
Completely different, yes. That is so cool. And I knew from the very first time I met you about your love of cars. I love that you still commit to doing that for yourself. I think that's so important, actually, the psychology behind that. Tomorrow I'm taping my show with your bestie, Dr. Drew, who I gosh, he's just such a good soul. And I feel whenever I'm around him on our show, Actual Friends, which I'm sure that you subscribe to and watch every weekend.
Adam Carolla
Oh, yeah.
Sage Steele
I always feel a combination of smarter when we're done with our show because he's on it, and dumber realizing that I'll never be him. You know what I mean? But we break down so many things like this. Maybe I'll bring this up on our show tomorrow. And I was talking, we were talking yesterday about some other things and I told him I was going to talk to you and he asked me if I had seen the clip of the two of you together a month or two ago as my. I told my daughter not to text me while I'm taping with you and she doesn't listen. You know that feeling very well because our kids are similar ages. Um, but the, the, of course, the 2013 Gavin Newsom interview. But the recreated version. I am obsessed with what you did with Burt Reynolds and the NPR girl. And the incredible recreation of that already incredible interview. This proved to me yet again, like, we all know you're a brilliant guy, but that left brain of yours, it's untouchable. How the heck. And I'm gonna put a clip in it when this airs. How the heck did you come up with that?

Adam Carolla
Oh, thanks for appreciating it. And thanks to Dr. Drew, who struck a nerve with him, too.
Sage Steele
He was dying.
Adam Carolla
Well, what I was doing is I realized I had interviewed Gavin Newsom for a pretty lengthy interview, and we talked about different subjects. And when we got on the subject of race, although I didn't really bring it up, he just mentioned that half of black and Hispanics in California didn't have access to a checking account, which of course is an insane lie. I mean, first off, people don't really explain that. It needs to be noted that these people lie all the time. And also they're grammatically incorrect, like they don't have access to a checking account or they don't get a checking account or they don't try to get a checking account. First off, Los Angeles is literally 50% Latino. So you're telling me that 50% of the majority of people living in Los Angeles don't have access to a checking account? That's insane. Number one. But number two. And what do you mean black people don't have access to a checking account? Also super racist, insanely racist, Same with the ID stuff. But also, if in these modern times you don't have a checking account, considering a 12 year old can show up with his piggy bank and start a checking account at any bank in America, well, then you don't want a checking account. It's not. It's not that you don't have access to it. You don't want it.
Sage Steele
Exactly.
Adam Carolla
They do this all the time. They go like, Hobby Lobby is denying their female employees access to reproductive. They're not giving out the birth control pill for free. They're not denying access to it. If you'd like to purchase the birth control and work for Hobby Lobby, you may. I tell this to people all the time. I have 10 people in this building. I do not deny them access to lunch. I don't buy them lunch four or five times a year, but I do not provide lunch for them every single day. They bring their own lunch or they procure their own sandwiches, but I do not deny them access to sandwiches. They just get it on their own. So stop lying about everything. Now, that's Gavin Newsom. And I realize what took place after that made him sound like an insane person because he wouldn't answer my question, which is what is wrong with black people and Hispanic people that they don't have access? What's wrong with them? What's happened to them, how is this? And he would never answer, of course. But I do realize, and I did realize that if you listen to that interview and you were a partisan person who maybe voted for Gavin Newsom, it would sound like old man Corolla's badgering. Good dude. Gavin Newsom, who's just trying to help black and brown people, although they never offer a solution and they never help. And that was 12 years ago. And I don't know what his solution for helping black and brown people get checking accounts. I've never heard him speak about it again. So apparently he's done caring about that subject, but. Or the problem never existed anyway. He wanted to make himself a hero. But I realized that as long as my voice was in this and as long as his voice was in this, people would sort of take sides and fold their arms and go, well, Corolla's such a douchebag. Screw that guy. So I realized that if I got a transcript of it, it's word for word. There is no doctoring of the transcript. It's exactly what I said and exactly what he said. How would this sound if I replaced his voice with a masculine voice, like a Burt Reynolds voice, who would be sort of represent the right now? And we replaced my voice with a generic NPR woman. And then we will now listen to the transcript through the eyes of a generic NPR reporter and Burt Reynolds. And now Burt Reynolds is going to sound insane. And now Gavin Newsom sounds insane. But I realized that my side, I didn't even want done by a man.
Sage Steele
Yes, that was the key, I think, because it does. If anyone knows Adam Carolla, they probably know where you stand on many issues. And before that interview in 2013 with him when he was lieutenant governor, you've been pretty outspoken for years and years. And certainly it's changed, I think, since 2020. Covid. But now that that has come back for a second time, I mean, I think it really blew again in 2025. You change it up and she. And her monotone NPR voice, she, if we're allowed to call her she, she might identify something else. Adam, you know.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Sage Steele
That, like he couldn't slash. Wouldn't answer very fair questions from this woman and I. It was just brilliant. So we're gonna, we're gonna play a chunk of it. But this, this is why you're still you. Because something like that, that was brilliant in its own right. Went to another level again. By that, I think, I mean, this is coming to a close with Gavin here soon, isn't it? I Mean, what will you miss the most as a California resident once he
Ad Voice/Commercial Break
is no longer governor?
Adam Carolla
I like a few things about Newsom. I like when he does his insanely deep leg cross, where he crosses his legs like essentially a waif model ballerina. Like, he crosses so hard to signal, you know, that's his way of presenting to his, you know, progressive crowd. He's very progressive. Oftentimes when he's being interviewed by a progressive dude from, like, the New York Times, they will have a leg cross off. It's kind of a competition. It's a silent competition of like, okay, bro, you think your legs are crossed super deep. And like a chick, I'm going to out cross you. I will pull my left leg over the top, my right, and I will touch the floor with my foot of my left leg. That's how deep I'm going to cross. So I'm going to miss the deep leg cross. I also love. I love when he feigns outrage, you know? Like, I like when he says, damn, you know, and he goes, man, I want to know what the damn hell's going on here. I mean, come on now. I mean, come on. Like, I like when he gets. He feigns outrage. That's him. That's good. I'm going to miss.
Sage Steele
He does swear a lot more now on Twitter and X. I think he's taken a page out of Donald Trump's book with the capital letters and the language.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, yeah.
Sage Steele
As he tweets, like, he's gotten really super cool now that he has the dam in there. Okay, number three.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. I like when he accuses the Republicans for all marching to the same talking points and Democrats need to get it together to fight them. Like these. He accuses, by the way, he accuses the side who's the Republicans who fight over everything all the time and then says the Democrats need to get on the same page. These guys who are on the exact same page for everything all the time. It didn't matter. All things Covid, 100% vaccine, 100%. All the COVID bullshit. You guys are on exactly the same page. Ivermectin vaccines, Hunter Biden's laptop, Hunter being a sharp, sharp kid, and Joe Biden being more lucid than ever. And, you know, Biden never talked to him about any of his business stuff. The lab leak versus the wet market. You guys are in lockstep on every single subject. And then you accuse the Republicans who fight about everything on every subject as being in lockstep. And you guys need to do More of that. It always amazes me. Name me one sub. Men can be women, women can be men. Trans and trans bathrooms. You tell me one thing you guys don't agree on. Find it. Oh, oh, oh, by the way, did you get the memo? We hate Israel now. Okay, everybody. You all hate Israel. Perfect. And then you accuse the other side of being disingenuous.
Sage Steele
The thing is, people nod and anyone in the middle of those interviews or moderators on these panel, they just go, oh yes. And they nod and there's. That's the part that's maddening, but that would be me expecting somebody to be a journalist, which that's not going to happen. Especially on that side.
Adam Carolla
Not at all. No.
Sage Steele
That's where the leg talking points are, right there. And they follow them 100%.
Adam Carolla
Well, that's where the deep leg cross comes in. It's like I'm presenting. This is a safe place. You can come. I won't ask you any follow up or harsh questions. I like feigned righteous indignation. I like when he does that, he gets indignant. I like the hand movements. But I'm starting to really fall in love with his wife who sits around in their $9 million house and explains about systemic repression against women and femininity and the patriarchy while she makes shitty docs about the trans movement and then forces it up the ass of school age kids and gets paid for it through her crony connections with the teachers union. So she makes subpar crap docs about nothing and attempt to poison the next generation of school age kids. Then he talks to his buddies over at the LAUSD or wherever it is, the California whatever Union for teachers, and then they magically pay her and then run her docs so they can poison another generation of young kids. I like her. I like her talking about the patriarchy while she's blowing Harvey Weinstein. She's a mess. She's worse than he is, really.
Sage Steele
But she. They look presidential. They look the part, Adam. And apparently that is all that matters. Between his hair gel, she, the blonde, all American girl, like they look the part. And sometimes I feel like that's all that matters to people. Okay, so if it, I mean, what's your gut about him running for President in 2028?
Ad Voice/Commercial Break
Summer is finally here. And if you want to actually feel confident, less bloated and energized, it starts with your gut. I thought being bloated every day was just normal and it's not. Once I fixed my gut, everything changed. My digestion, my skin, my hair. And the one thing that made the biggest difference is Cowboy colostrum. I started taking Cowboy Colostru. Colostrum, yes, for my gut. But the results I didn't expect are the ones that shocked me the most. My hair is noticeably thicker and bigger, fuller. My skin is clearer, and I'm not bloated after every meal anymore. Colostrum supports gut health. And when your gut is right, everything else follows. Digestion, bloating, skin clarity, hair growth, all of it. This isn't just my experience, though. Cowboy ran a clinical study, and the numbers back it up. 83% of participants reported improved gut health, 79% experienced less bloating and inflammation. 72%. 2% saw improved digestion, and 62% saw fuller, thicker hair. So for a limited time, our listeners get up to 25% off their entire order. Just head to cowboycolostrum.com sage and use code sage at checkout. That's 25% off when you use the
Adam Carolla
code sage@cowbiecolostrum.com sage I just think California has become a cautionary tail for the rest of the United States. And maybe, maybe not New York, but everywhere else is basically, you don't want to turn out like California, do you? And so the guy who was mainly responsible for running California into the ground, I just can't see that selling anywhere else in the country.
Sage Steele
I mean, he's still on the list, although I guess now he's trailing, lagging behind Kamala at this point, two years out, which, which also shocks me. She's had her fair share of stuff in the state of California. I mean, wouldn't it be a surprise to you if, if he, starting with him, did not run at this point? I mean, are you, are you assuming that he will?
Adam Carolla
I'm assuming that he has to do something because he's a sociopath narcissist who cannot just fade into the woodwork and go back to private sector world. He's going to have to be out in front making his proclamations and seeing himself on TV every night. So he's definitely not going away because of his wiring as a sociopath narcissist. So he'll be doing something and it'll be in front of the camera and he'll be outraged about something that we don't really care about or know what's happening. But what you're not gonna hear is anything you care about from him. Just stop.
Sage Steele
He has proven that for sure. But the timing of her being so much more out in the public and present and speaking makes it feel that way. Do you think Kamala takes another shot at this thing?
Adam Carolla
I suppose. I mean, they have a thin bench. And also now they're going to have to eliminate any Shapiro's. Any Jews or anybody who has any allegiance with Israel's gone now. So now we're just left to the wackadoodles. And then Kamala and these people are also going to have to shift gears because whatever they said that was positive about Israel 10 minutes ago. They're going to have to walk all that back. But that's all they do. They go, I'm going to end fracking. And then someone goes, you're going to end fracking? Ah, that was the old me. I was 57 and a half, fresh out of high school. Yeah. And what about transing the. How about transing the illegals that are in prison? Yeah, that was the old me again. I was 55. When I said that, I didn't mean it. So they're going to have to walk back. They have to walk back that kind of stuff now. Now they're all going to have to walk back Israel, which is going to
Sage Steele
be funny, by the way, when's the last time you saw Gavin in person and actually spoke to him?
Adam Carolla
Well, technically not since he left my studio, but if your audience would enjoy a little booster shot of me and Gavin, I did have a run in with him the night of the debate, which I guess is coming up. Right. About two years ago. Yeah, we're not there yet, but I guess I would. We. We'd be coming up. What was that? That was. I mean, it was September. Was it August? I mean, the night of the disastrous debate with desantis. No, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. The Biden Trump debate.
Sage Steele
Got it.
Adam Carolla
Was that.
Sage Steele
Yeah, that was the end of June 2024. Like June 28th.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. Okay. So. Right. You're right. We're right there. So two years ago, Two years ago, I was in studio, I was sitting with Chris Cuomo and Stephen A. Smith, I think, and we're doing some debate coverage. And we were just sitting in studio and for a night of, you know, marathon night of debate coverage. And then at some point during the commercial break, Chris goes, we're going to come back. We got Gavin Newsom remote. And I said, you know, you should play this for your audience. They would. They would enjoy it. But they said. I said, oh, damn. Gavin Newsom. And then Chris with like 30 seconds to live. Like, Chris was like, adam, why don't you ask Him a question. And Stephen A, why don't you ask him a question, too? And I was like, huh? I had no idea Gavin Newsom would be there. And I had about 20. That's on purpose, probably. I had, like, 22 seconds to figure out a question for him. Stephen A. Asked him a cookie cutter nonsense, stupid debate question. I just went right at him. I just go, why'd you close the Beaches? And he was like, huh? And I was like, you shut down the Beaches? Why'd you shut down the beaches during COVID And he's like. And then I get the number one answer. We didn't know anything at the time. You didn't know anything. Why don't you just shut up then if you don't know anything? I love that. Their excuses, you know? You know, hey, Adam, you just. Did. You just. You just tore down the. The Capitol. And I. My answer is, yeah, I don't know what I'm doing. So why'd you listen to me? Like, it's like, oh, okay. Your number one answer for Covid is you don't know anything. We didn't know anything at the time. Yeah, okay, you didn't know anything. Why'd you shut down the Beaches if you didn't know anything? So I just attacked it.
Sage Steele
I need to go back and find that clip. I gotta go find that because I did not see it. And I am imagining the. And from the host, too, from Cuomo being, you know, again, they knew more than 30 seconds before that he was gonna have the potential of coming on, much less the green light of coming on. And, yeah, there's no way. That is beautiful. That backfired, probably for them, but I love it. And don't put Baby in the corner. Don't back Adam Kroll in the corner.
Adam Carolla
I didn't. Yeah, you will watch it. It'll be the most delightful three minutes you'll have today if you watch that clip. I just went after him, and I did what reporters are supposed to do, which is stop letting him talk in circles about nothing pinning them. So I just pinned him. He wasn't happy about it. Obviously. He didn't expect me to be on the show. I didn't expect to talk to him. And I just remember thinking, I'm not going to ask him anything about the debate. I'm going right after him on Covid.
Sage Steele
Yo. Good for you. This is what we need. Why don't you take over cnn? What's the first thing you would do if you took over any major news network?
Adam Carolla
Well, I would have to get rid of most. The reporter. And I do realize, and most of the female reporters. Sorry, Sage, but I'll tell you why. Because I think. Here's an analogy, and you tell me what you think. I don't think as a whole, as a group, women are able to remove their own feelings and proclivities and sensibilities from the job. I think it bleeds into the job more so than men. I think if you are. Let's put it to you this way. If there's a boss who runs a company and that boss is vegan, I feel like if it's a female, she's going to start enacting certain vegan policies. Or if you come walking in eating a ham sandwich, she will judge you. I feel like guys have the ability to put that separation up a little more. Less and less these days as guys get more emotional. But here's a thought experiment. I think a father could umpire his son's Little League game when his son was pitching. And I think he could still do a straight job of it, by and large. I think if the mom did that job, she couldn't help but call more strikes for her son because she's more invested or involved emotionally. And so what we're seeing is, I
Sage Steele
think 10 years ago, I think 10 years ago, probably, I think now, the softness and this spinelessness in many cases of men, the wussification of men has caught up to women in many of those ways. And I look at it just from, like, a corporate perspective with some of the biggest. I'm pretty sure whoever was leading Bud Light when they did the Dylan Mulvaney experiment was a man. I'm not sure of that. I'm assuming. I look at the CEO of. Look at the CEO of Snake.
Adam Carolla
Naive Sage. That was a woman. Yeah.

No, the woman who made the decision. The marketing chick. Yeah. Talking about the boss who allowed it. And I'm looking at the CEO of Disney when I worked there, Bob Iger, who said, you know what? We don't want Mickey Mouse to say, hi, boys and girls. Welcome, boys and girls. We have to say, welcome, friends. Because they might not know if they're a boy and a girl. So I think that I'm usually with you with this type of stuff with the gender issues, frankly. And I will also admit that as a woman for 30 years in sport, asking questions to pretty much all men, for those 30 years in all the leagues, I had to push myself when it came time to ask a tough question, especially to somebody that I liked, I did it But I probably did it slightly differently than my male counterparts. Still got the answer I needed. But I will admit that I think that there's a really good part of us that thinks about all things before we go out there. Now I can't speak for these crazy purple haired Karens of the world anymore because they're not even women in many ways to me but I do think it's. I do understand what you're saying and I know many women out there will crush me for agreeing with you on this. But let's be realistic that that is something that is innate in us is emotion more so there's statistics. When you look at businesses that are run by women, they're run differently.
Adam Carolla
Well I mean look, it's why you're better being a mom than a dad is. I mean why you're more nurturing and why you're better when the kid falls off the scooter and gets the boo boo and stuff like that. Like it's good. It's a balance, it's a balance. But I'm saying the more here's and yes I agree with you most these guys are turned into pussies. I completely agreed. I wrote a book 16 years ago called In 50 Years Wall Be chicks and I wrote, I named it that for a reason because 16 or 17 years ago when I started writing the book I could see dudes turning into chicks and I wrote a book about it. So I'm with you on that. I'm saying in general women bring their feelings into a place more so than men. It's not really a bad quality in general it's tough if you're just trying to do straight line news. Like it's hard if you're really rooting for Joe Biden but someone is asking you to report on Hunter's laptop it then can prevent you from doing that. But a lot of I agree with you ever growing number of guys are that way as well. So I think I would if I was in charge of shit.
Sage Steele
Yeah, look at the Jake Tappers. I look at the Scarboroughs and the very very long list of men at the top of this industry who literally ran the other direction when it came time to just do their damn job as I'll like avenue and just do your damn job over the four years that Biden was in office and then when they wanted to come back sell a book then we're going to be honest about it after the fact. Jake Tapper is a long line of men.
Adam Carolla
Jake, I will say Jake Tapper for A dude who thinks like a chick. He does have a set of balls on him. They're as big as Montana. Because for you to sit there and run interference for Joe Biden for four years, you run interference for Joe Biden, you, you call. I think I can't remember Trump's daughter in law. I can't her name escape me right now. You attack her for saying Laura. I think it was Laura. Yeah. Who's Laura? Trump who's like, you're saying Joe Biden's losing it and you're saying he has a stutter. Yeah, yeah, he has a stutter. I don't know what happened to Joe Biden's stutter. Does he have a stutter? Doesn't he have a stutter? I've never heard him stutter. I've heard him look pretty addled and slur his words. I have not heard his stunt. Then he attacks her. Then when it's all done and his guy doesn't get to be president and he's got a book to sell, he's writing a book criticizing the media for not uncovering this or for them, by the way, the media is funny because the media is like, they were covering this up. Like I know they're covering it up. Of course Jill Biden is lying. Why are you believing her? You're the media. Everyone tries to cover everything up. Yes. So anyway, so Jake Tapper is a huge set of wavos that we will.
Sage Steele
Okay, that's true. I'll give him that. He just lied through his teeth. And then, yes, to come back and be like, hey, but buy my book. But I think there's so many men and women who completely failed at their job as journalists over these last several years and are still doing it now. And by the way, it isn't just on the left, it's on the right as well. I think it's all gross. And I'm just glad that my timing in that industry was for years and years before it went to another level. And it was forced, which is also woke now, too. So that's nice.

When an unexpected pregnancy happens, the focus is almost always on the mother and dads. Too often they're overlooked, pushed to the side, left feeling like their voice doesn't matter. Maybe that's how you would feel too. You want to be supportive, you want to do the right thing. But fear sets in. Questions start racing. Can I really do this? Can I be a good father? That's exactly how John felt me, a dad that didn't even feel possible. He said I didn't know the first thing about being a good father. But then we found preborn. We talked to people who cared and got a free ultrasound. And that's when it all came together for me that we could do this, that I could do this. Today, you can help another father experience that same moment of hope. For just $28, you can sponsor an ultrasound through preborn and help expectant parents see a future filled with life, compassion and the hope of God's love. To donate, dial 250 and say, Baby, that's £250, baby. Or visit preborn.com sage that's preborn.com sage sponsored by Preborn.

I just wonder, Adam, if people around America fully comprehend what is happening. Because it' it's kind of been a slow burn, but then the burn has gotten hotter and hotter over the last three years. Five, I guess, five or six years. I saw something the other day with dsa, the Democratic Socialists of America. I wrote it down here and I didn't even know. Shame on me. I didn't know this was a thing until more recently. And then when you go to the homework on it, I think it started in like the early 70s. And then so there are a few hundred thousand people, hundreds, slash thousands of people, until 2016, when it got up to 6,000. And from 2016 to 2026, it has jumped. And now there's over 100,000 people that are members of the Democratic Socialists of America. And they've unveiled this whole new plan. They're calling for major changes to the structure of the US government, including replacing the presidency and the Supreme Court with institutions subordinate to Congress. I don't know if people appreciate what is happening. They said, oh, okay, socialism. There's some of that in California. We got Zoran in New York City. We know it's happening up in Minnesota. Like it's right here and it's going through the roof. Do you think people are seeing this? Because I'm scared that it's going to be realized too late.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, I share that fear. I think there's an age in a demo. And so I'll give you an example. There's a lot of people who've come to la, let's say, in the last several years, five years, let's say. Let's say there's a lot of Hispanics that came into LA in the last five years, and this version of LA is the only LA they've ever known. There's homeless everywhere, there's garbage everywhere, there's graffiti everywhere. There's filth everywhere. But that's what they showed up for, you know, I mean, they didn't show up for it, but that was what it was when they showed up. Now the people that are most unhappy about this new version of LA are people who've lived here their whole lives and that are a little bit older and the aforementioned Dr. Drew and others and I talk to those people all the time, they'll go, man, I remember when we would walk down to the A and W root beer and get a float. Then we could just go walk down to the beach and sit on the beach. You could smoke a cigarette or drink a beer on the beach. You didn't get arrested. You weren't stepping over homeless people everywhere. Stuff was clean. People walked around downtown at night, you know, like was they. They have an A and a B, right? They can compare it to something and you and I can compare America to something. And the young socialist Democrats, you know, the 26 year old that's thinking about democratic socialism, they don't know any old version. They only know this version. They only know the free buses and the free supermarkets and the free. All they know is they're 26 and they can't buy a house. That's all they know. And all they know is they got some other guy who seems a little closer to their age or another woman who looks a little younger saying, vote me in and I'll get you that house. I'll make sure you get that house and I'll make sure that your groceries are cheap and that transportation is free and that your healthcare is free. And then versus the old white dude and we're going, I don't like that guy. He's old and white. This other guy's young and brown or female and brown looks more like me speaking my language, talking about getting myself a house, getting some cheaper groceries, getting some transportation, not working for the man so hard. I like the sound of that. And so I think it's a demographic thing. It's young dumb people who by the way, they didn't study history in high school and college. They studied civil rights, oppression and the Trail of Tears, which by the way, the old guys ancestors were all responsible for.
Sage Steele
So these kids don't probably have enough people in their ears either, reminding them of what it once was and what it actually is supposed to be, right? I think the rest of the country, the flyover states, which I hate that phrase, they're the people that keep this country going despite popular belief that it comes from the coasts. I think when people in that part of the country, the south, or even just the common sense people in these big cities see it. I mean, what do we do? What do we do to help educate those kids who are continuing to vote the same people in? And then I have to preface that question by saying, well, wait a minute. In California, you can't even count on it being a legal election. Right. Or that your vote will even be counted. So I guess I understand why people give up and maybe aren't going to focus on the youth because they feel like their hands are completely tied.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. I think the people are just going to resettle to a red state whose thoughts and policies are more in line with theirs, and they're just going to let the young people in the blue states just ruin the. The city and the state and just sort of let it cave under its own way. Yeah, I am. I'm. I'm in the process. You've been a while.
Sage Steele
As long as I've known you.
Adam Carolla
I know. I am literally beginning building a house in Nevada as of Monday, so. Yes.
Sage Steele
Really?
Adam Carolla
Yes. Yes.
Sage Steele
You broke ground?
Adam Carolla
The ground has been broken. Yes. Well, that's approved. Yes. Yes, yes. So.
Sage Steele
And you're gonna. I mean, how. How will that feel, do you think? See, this is a chick being emotional, Adam.
Narrator/Ad Voice
Careful.
Sage Steele
How will you feel. How will you feel when you actually walk away from this place that you've called home forever?
Adam Carolla
I'm pragmatic. Cause I got. Dude, think so. You know, savings and taxes and that sort of thing. But also, I don't know. It's a little. It's sad. I mean, the number one answer I get, and I travel all over the country, and I do shows all over the country, and invariably, after every show, when I'm doing my meet and greet, 10 people come up to me and go, we used to live in Santa Monica, or we used to live in Huntington beach or whatever, and we left 10 years ago. And then they go. They go, it's the best decision we ever made. And then at some point, they pause and they go, but it's sad, you know, like, it's kind of a weird thing, which is what I'm saying to my friends on the left is, I am. And I think you feel this way. I know Dr. Drew feels this way, and I know almost everyone on the right feels this way. I'm not saying I want to ram my policy through you. You better obey me. I'm begging you to stop ruining these cities. I'm just begging you to stop. I'm not even Asking for me. You know what I mean? Like, I just want you to stop ruining the city. I don't want. I'm not going to force you to own a gun or not have an abortion or anything. I'm just saying, please stop ruining the place. It's a weird conceit, you understand? Like, I don't even have policies or wishes. My wish is that you stop ruining these cities. And I feel like in a weird way, I want to take these people and I want to take them. Like when you take your cat to the vet and your cat's like going, oh, no, no. And you're like, it's good for you. You need to get the drops, you know? And the cat's like, ah. And then you're like, hold the eye open. And it's like struggling. And it's like, it's good for you. It's good for you. I'm not doing it for me. It's good for you. You young. And you know what? I didn't want to do this. I'm paying the vet to do this. You're struggling because you think I'm trying to hurt you or bring harm to you, but you need these drops and it's going to help you. And that's why I feel about young Democrats. I'm like, I'm not doing this for me. I remember what this place used to be like. I liked it that way. And you would like it that way, too. But what you're doing is making it worse and you don't even know it. You're enabling making it worse by voting for these clowns and you don't even know it.
Sage Steele
That's why I try. I try very hard not to judge. And at some point, I have been judgmental of people who continue to bitch and moan about what's happening, but then do the exact. I mean, that's the definition of insanity, right? When you do the exact same thing, hoping for a different result, and it's just right. You keep voting these people in. And then when I lived in Arizona 10, 12 years ago, so moved there in 2014, I was doing NBA out in LA and would just go back and forth from Arizona and more and more California people were coming and started to turn purple. And then look what happened in Arizona. And we're like, hey, come one, come all. But if you're leaving there for a reason, use your brain and don't do the exact same thing here. So then you have to leave here at some point. But they kept doing it.
Adam Carolla
And so listen, I would. I would tell all the people from their Islamic republics in the Middle east the same thing. Don't go to Minneapolis, don't go to London, don't go to la, don't go to Michigan and recreate where you came from. Because remember, you fled. Remember the fleeing part? You fled because you had a system there that caused you to flee. So now you want to flee to Minneapolis and recreate what you fled from, or you want to flee California and go to Arizona and recreate what you fled from. I mean, it's really kind of the, it's the definition of narcissism. Like, hey, maybe you're wrong about something. Why don't you just knock it off and join in on the people who created this thing that you fled to versus recreating what you fled from?
Sage Steele
And like I said, require thought.
Adam Carolla
Yes, yes, yes.
Sage Steele
Thief thought. God forbid. Do you ever think or do you think I should say and this, this whole thing breaks my heart because I know several people who lost homes in the fires. Is it realistic to think that these homes can be rebuilt?

When it comes to investing, are you just focused on what you're buying or have you thought about where you're holding it? Because that's where a lot of people get it wrong. Most investors don't fully understand the power of tax advantaged accounts. They're trading crypto or other assets in standard accounts and every time they make a move, they could be creating a taxable event. That means over time you're not just building gains, you're giving a portion of them away. And if you're a long term investor, it can be even more frustrating. You sit on an asset for years, it grows, and when you finally sell, a big chunk goes to taxes. The solution is ITRUST Capital. ITRUST Capital lets you buy and sell crypto as well as physical gold and silver all inside a self directed ira. So you can actively manage your portfolio without triggering capital gains taxes on every trade. You can open a new IRA with iTrust Capital or roll over an old 401k or existing IRA. That means taking retirement money that's been sitting in the same traditional system and actually putting it to work. You'll have more control, more flexibility and access to more alternative assets. And you'll get to keep more of what you make because you won't create a taxable event every time you make a trade inside the account. Use my link in the description below to create an account with $1,000 of funds and get a $100 funding bonus. Go to itrustcapital.com go sagesteel to learn more.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, the thing that's interesting because, you know, I have a background in building and I've been watching it and kind of monitoring it closely and doing vlogs about it that people can enjoy if they go to my website. Once you cut loose, dudes who can build, when you cut them loose, they build fast. And you'd be really surprised how fast like a competent, experienced contractor can do with multiple homes and big crews. And I mean, you blink your eyes and there's a house where the house wasn't 10 minutes ago. It's really impressive. But you got to cut them loose to do it. And they know what they're doing and they know how to do it and that's what they do for a living. And it's really impressive. But if you're going to tie them up in the permit process and the red tape and the soils reports and the deputies, inspectors and all this nonsense which they get all tied up in, then, no, they're never going to start. You know what I mean?
Sage Steele
That's my point because from what I've heard from here is permits, permits, permits and a number of homes in Malibu, the Palisades, that have been rebuilt. I mean, you can count on one hand. I'm exaggerating a little bit, right? But at the end of the day, it's because of the red tape created by the leadership in Los Angeles county. Right? And I think that's more the question. You have the workers and they have the ability to do it, the talent, the skill, but will they be allowed to? And so with that premise, is it realistic to think it will be rebuilt?
Adam Carolla
Well, the Palisades is being rebuilt at a slow but consistent pace. I see it almost every day and the stuff is going up and I always take notice because it's kind of a hobby. I like this. I'll look and see what stages they're at that get the windows in the house wrapped, they got the roof on. I kind of keep tabs. Nothing in Malibu. Malibu is Coastal Commission. And the Coastal Commission is made up of highly politicized Democratic idiots who do not want any building. It's not, you know, the Coastal Commission is not a commission to protect the coast. It's a left wing organization. Just like the Sierra Club has turned into a left wing organization, just like the ACLU has turned into left wing organization, just like Southern Poverty Law Centers turned into. Everything turns into a left wing political organization. It starts off with some sort of noble Cause the same as the aclu, same as the teachers unions. We're here to help the kids. We're here to help the kids. They're there to help the coast. They want to save the baby seals. You guys want the kids to be educated and as safe, and. And then it turns into a left wing shit show. And that's what all organizations turn into. And it's. It's. Somebody should study it. They never go right. They always go left. And the next. The next thing you know, the Sierra Club and the Coastal Commission are some sort of hard left adjunct to the Democrat Party. And it's like, what do you. Wait a minute. I thought you were here to save the sequoia trees.
Sage Steele
Why this so up on PCH then? I haven't been since. Is it just like nothing was ever there?
Adam Carolla
No. No building.
Sage Steele
And that's how they want it to stay. Empty.
Adam Carolla
Ask the good people that vote for the socialist all the time what they want. You know what I mean? Is this what you want? You want. You want this? You want homeless people everywhere. You want junkies everywhere. You want garbage everywhere. You want businesses moving.
Sage Steele
But how do they make money? Because all these leftist organizations end up. There seems to be fraud related to all of them. So for that Coastal Commission, how are they making any money?
Adam Carolla
They're not. Well, they're government positions. I mean, it's like asking someone who works at the airport, how are you making money? It's like. Well, they just. They work at the airport, you know, I mean, that's a. It's an appointed position. They get appointed by guys like Gavin Newsom. They understand what their job is, and their job is to attack Elon Musk, not save the coast. And Elon Musk just settled a lawsuit with them because they went after Elon Musk. They're the Coastal Commission. They're not supposed to be running off billionaires. You know what I mean? But, sorry, once again, Sage, they can't help themselves. They just can't. There's too much. Too much estrogen running through their veins. Lots of dudes. Lots of dudes with estrogen running through their veins in there, too, and they just can't. They have to bring their politics to whatever their job is, is what I'm saying. And that's where we're living now.
Sage Steele
I feel like they all are a bunch of, like, Pete Buttigiegs, which is hard to say.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, well, no, but there's a lot of women, too, because we made sure that we were representative. Yeah, but think, all right? Think College presidents think like Harvard president and Ivy League president. It's like they cannot check the. They can't check their politics at the door. They can't just do their job and be the president of Harvard. They can't do it. And that's the era we're living in. You can't just do your job as. Fill in the blank. Nope. It must be infused. And so college campuses must be infused with all of this. And the Coastal Commission, the Sierra Club, aclu, Southern Poverty lava. They're all boom. Teachers unions, boom. Gone, lost. They're all lost.
Sage Steele
It's sick.
Adam Carolla
It is.
Sage Steele
You know what? And when I was sick and sad, so we can have some emotion here. It's all of it. And when I. I think I told you this when I lived in Connecticut. All three of my kids graduated from high school in Connecticut, and I told them that I would not pay for their college education if they stayed in the Northeast.
Shannon Maldonado
Wow.
Sage Steele
And it worked. I had two that graduated 24 and 2025. No, 2025 and 2026 this year from High Point University in North Carolina. And the president there is awesome. Didn't put up with any of the crap. There was no protesting. Politics truly not allowed in the classroom. And they would get reported. It was just great. I mean, it's an arm and a leg financially, but it was great. And my youngest went from Avon, Connecticut, to Ole Miss, University of Mississippi. She could not have gone further south. My point is, I'm one of many parents, I don't know that they said that, like, I'm not going to pay for you, but I was dead serious. And it worked. But the numbers from these cities, northeast, northwest, Michigan, I mean, her friends and her little sorority are from all over the country, and they're flocking to the sec, they're flocking to the South. So it's interesting that these families who maybe are preaching certain things at home, they're green lighting that. So I do have hope. Gad Sad, of course, is an adjunct, blah, blah, blah, some fancy title at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. And what he talks about, about trying to honestly educate our students today, that is our only hope. And we know that. It just seems. It feels impossible. But I did want to point out to people like, the enrollment at Alabama and all the schools in the south is skyrocketing because people are seeing the truth of what is happening at the Harvards and the Stanfords of the world, unfortunately.
Adam Carolla
Yeah. Well, good. Maybe a little ray of sunshine.
Sage Steele
I'm trying. I don't know. See Glass half full. Okay, I know I have to let you go because you have four hours of traffic to get back out to the coast probably. But I did want to ask you about a little of the comedy world because I have never had the privilege of coming to an your shows and I need to look up your schedule. I'd love to see you live and in person doing that. And I know you've talked about this over the last couple of years, but for a while it did feel like that was like the one safe place where you couldn't really get canceled. Like you could still say you're supposed to be fun, you're supposed to antagonize and make fun of people. I guess there's a few who weren't immune from it, like the Shane ghost's of the world. But he has certainly rebounded, right? I mean, what is the state of that industry, of the comedy world as everything else kind of goes awry?
Adam Carolla
A group of comedians, an ever growing group, just broke off and just went, you know what? I don't have to worry about getting a sitcom deal anymore for abc and that's your dad's network. And we're going off and doing something else. And I don't even need the platforms anymore, the HBOs or even the Netflix. We're just doing our own thing. We're putting it up. It's YouTube, word of mouth, I'm selling tickets. I don't have to worry about being canceled or boycotted. There's so many alternative places to go. It's followed the same way. Media has followed that. I think 10 years ago it was like, okay, you're kind of putting yourself out there on an island if you're going to start talking this way. And good luck with Disney and ESPN and all that. And now it's like there's so many other networks, there's so many other avenues. There's so many more places you can go, which they created by being exclusionary and attacking everyone who disagreed with them. And what happened is just what happens in nature when you start getting pushed out of your tribe and you wander the forest for a while, but eventually you start running into other people that were pushed out and you start going, well, why don't we make our own tribe? And that's kind of what's happening right now with standup. Hi, Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile. Are you looking for a beach read this summer? May I suggest your big wireless bill? It's got suspense, mystery, a slightly flat emotional arc, and a shocking twist where you realize You've been overpaying the entire time. Fortunately though, Mint's story is better. What do you still get out of it? Because you've been doing it for a long time and you're still at the airports, on the road, doing it, working hard to be successful there.
Adam Carolla
I get to say I am better at something now than I was 10 years ago. And it's a very weird thing as a, as an adult male to go, oh, I'm much better at this thing at 62 than I was at 52. Because for men, you know, I played a lot of sports and I cannot say that about any sport. I can't say that about all the sports I loved playing and participating in. You know, as you get older, you get things taken away from you. You know, you can't get in that pickup basketball game Saturday at the park with your buddies. You know, it just, it doesn't work anymore. But I can say that this is something where I can go, no, I'm better now than I was added a decade ago.
Sage Steele
How are you better?
Adam Carolla
You better like in 10,000 more hours up on stage better?
Sage Steele
Like, I mean, specifically with your delivery? Are your, are your jokes funnier in your mind? Do you just. I mean, in addition to not giving a crap, I do feel like that as I'm 53 and I give so many lessons, you know, what's. Than I did back in the day. I think that helps too.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, I. It's hard to quantify. I. I can't quantify stand up. It's too invisible, it's too weird. But I can definitely tell you I'm a lot better.
Sage Steele
Did you ever think of dialing it back a little bit when everything hit the wall like six years ago?
Adam Carolla
No, no, I never really gave that any consideration.
Sage Steele
And then how have the audiences evolved during this year, these past few years too? Because I've been to a couple shows and listen, I love it when people are uncomfortable. That means someone's probably actually telling the truth, especially with the sensitivities the audiences
Adam Carolla
have segregated, just like the comedians have gone. They've now seek out these people. They're no longer sitting there Clutching their pearls. They're actually buying tickets because they like that these people are saying something different and being this way. So those guys are finding their audience, and the audience is finding them.
Sage Steele
How long do you think you'll do it?
Adam Carolla
I'll do it as long as I can do it.
Sage Steele
Well, that's going to be. If you're getting better with age. I mean, get comfortable.
Adam Carolla
Yeah.
Sage Steele
You're going to continue to do. And I imagine it's still an outlet too, right? Because, I mean, we laugh with you and at you, at your jokes through our phones and our laptops, when we watch what you're doing every day. But I do think there's something I've never done. Despite me telling everybody how funny I am and my kids, I. I guess I'm not. I've never done anything like what you've done, and I couldn't. But there is something that I think we get adrenaline wise, giving a speech on stage, et cetera. Like, there's something when you know that you are. Whatever you're saying is hitting home and you can see the eyeballs. You can see and hear the laughter.
Adam Carolla
Yeah, I agree. I mean, I don't get off on it. It's a job, but it is my job, and I want to make people laugh and it feels good when they. I laugh and then I don't think about it again.

Next. Next. Yes. Okay. My last couple questions. This one, I. This one, I was like, okay, he could go any direction with this. And I tried to predict it, but then I stopped trying. If Adam Carolla were running America for one year and Congress couldn't stop you, what are the first three things you change?
Adam Carolla
I would have a national campaign that people were forced to use their signal when they drove. No one uses their signal. And I don't know why, but it would stop a lot of confusion where people are going. So I do that, I would have a reckoning on all victimhood. I think everyone who's playing a victim now is ruining their lives, and all these groups are ruining their lives, and it's. It's horrible for them. And I would. I would definitely get rid of most of the stuff, like the stuff that we're talking about now where there's a lot of grift going on and NGOs. I'd get rid of the NGOs, but I would also get rid of a lot of the programs. People are like, well, people are taking advantage of these programs. I'm like, these programs were put in place to be taken advantage of. Like they are. They are like, oh, you say your kids on the spectrum and we'll give you an extra 1800 bucks a month. Then you're going to have a bunch of kids on the spectrum. My thing is, get rid of the program, feed your own kid, take care of your own family. We don't need senior care and we don't need free child care. You're on your own. You have a kid, that's your kid. You feed that kid. You take care of that kid. And by the way, I don't want the government feeding the kids. I don't want them sucking off the

teeth of the government.
Adam Carolla
It's gotten us nowhere. It's hurt. The group that takes the most from the government does the worst. So I back. What I would do is I would shrink it all down. It wouldn't be, I need to police all of these programs. It would be, I'm getting rid of most of them.
Sage Steele
Can you add one on for me, please? I think it goes along with the blinker. If you fly commercial and whatever row you're in, it doesn't matter. Just like in kindergarten, wait your turn. And if you sprint up ahead of my row, I'm going to trip you. I think that is a fair punishment and certainly it'll incite a brawl that will end up on social media and then I'll be fully canceled for the 18th time. Don't you think that that should be. Not illegal, but there should be severe consequences for people who can't wait their turn in line. Why is it so hard?
Adam Carolla
I agree with that. And I also agree the first class bathroom is for the people who paid for first class.
Sage Steele
Thank you. Stay out like that. Okay, now we sound so elitist. Those.
Adam Carolla
I don't. I don't fly first class. I fly first class less than half the time. Way less than half the time. Time. I'm flying Southwest to Austin in two days. I get it. I'm saying if I buy a ticket in first class, that's my bathroom, but most of the time I'm not even up there.
Sage Steele
I totally agree. And when I'm not in first class, I respect the curtain. I don't know if that's that pleaser young girl coming back at me. I don't want to get yelled at for cross in the back. And most importantly, my husband is a list preferred on Southwest, and so I'm his companion. So you fly free. If you are a frequent flyer, just do it with Southwest. Adam, I am always so grateful for time with you, and I love that you finally broke ground. For God's sake. I thought it was all talk. So this will be what, a five, six year process? Like when do you think you'll actually get to.
Adam Carolla
It could be a year to build the home.
Ad Voice/Commercial Break
Yeah.
Sage Steele
That's great.
Adam Carolla
So thank you.
Sage Steele
I mean, you're building a 20,000 square foot monstrosity, right?
Adam Carolla
That's right. Yes. With a lazy river.
Sage Steele
Have we gotten hitched yet?
Adam Carolla
No, I thought you meant me and you waiting.
Sage Steele
You. Not yet. Coming soon.
Adam Carolla
Yes.
Sage Steele
Okay. See, when you get one word answers, America, stop asking.
Adam Carolla
Yes, but you'll know. You'll be the first one.
Sage Steele
Please, please. You'll be the first one below. And God bless you. Thank you. Adam, good to see you.
Adam Carolla
Thanks, Dave. Take care.

Episode Title: How Adam Carolla Exposed Gavin Newsom With One Trick
Date: July 22, 2026
Host: Sage Steele
Guest: Adam Carolla
In this lively and unfiltered conversation, Sage Steele welcomes comedian, podcaster, and car enthusiast Adam Carolla for a deep-dive discussion spanning California politics, the state of American media, the evolution of comedy, and personal anecdotes that have shaped Carolla’s worldview. Central to the episode is Adam Carolla's infamous 2013 interview with then-Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, his creative recreation of that moment, and his broader critique of political rhetoric and societal changes in California and the U.S. The conversation oscillates between humor and sharp critique, providing both laughs and thought-provoking social commentary.
The “One Trick” Newsom Exposure:
“Why'd you close the beaches? ... He's like, huh? ... We didn't know anything at the time. You didn't know anything? Why don't you just shut up then if you don’t know anything?”
— Adam Carolla recounting his confrontation with Newsom (29:39–31:30)
On Institutional Capture:
“Everything turns into a left wing political organization. It starts off with some sort of noble Cause... Then it turns into a left wing shit show.”
— Adam Carolla (56:04–57:52)
On Demographic and Generational Change:
“They only know this version ... All they know is they're 26 and they can't buy a house. ... Another woman who looks a little younger saying, vote me in and I'll get you that house...”
— Adam Carolla (42:47)
On Emotionality in Journalism:
“I don't think as a whole, as a group, women are able to remove their own feelings ... more so than men ... it's tough if you're just trying to do straight line news.”
— Adam Carolla (32:46–36:34)
On Comedy’s New Independence:
“We're just doing our own thing. We're putting it up. It's YouTube, word of mouth, I'm selling tickets. I don't have to worry about being canceled or boycotted.”
— Adam Carolla (63:25)
The tone is candid, humorous, sometimes biting, and refreshingly direct. Both Sage and Adam are unafraid to critique—sometimes sharply—modern political, social, and cultural phenomena, blending personal stories with broad societal analysis. Carolla’s style is especially sarcastic and bracing, with plenty of wit and self-deprecation.
This episode offers a potent blend of comedy, satire, and cultural criticism, using Adam Carolla’s run-ins with Gavin Newsom as a case study in how political storytelling and media presentation shape public narratives. The conversation underscores generational divides, institutional drift, and the comedian’s role as truth-teller in a polarized media environment. Even as they lament “the wussification of men” and the leftward drift of institutions, both Sage and Adam hold out hope for generational renewal—if only people start “using their damn blinker.”
