Matt Farah
What's up, everybody? Welcome to the Smoking Tire podcast. As always, today's episode is brought to you by off the Record. We love off the Record here. And you guys are always emailing me. And please keep doing this. When you use off the Record and they get you out of a ticket, man, I got a good one the other day. It was in Nebraska. Big, big one. And it was a patron, actually, and totally got out of it. Basically, if you get pulled over, if you get a ticket, if you get stopped by local law enforcement and issued a summons, call off the Record. Well, don't literally call. Go to offtherecord.comtst or download that off the Record app and use code tstpod. And off the Record will fight that ticket in the jurisdiction. You got it. They'll connect with a qualified attorney that'll handle that ticket, go to court, meet with the prosecutor, the whole deal. You don't have to do anything. It's so easy. You'll send them a photo of the ticket, a brief explanation of what happened, and off the Record, we'll take care of the rest. I've used them so many times, and you guys out there in podcast land have clearly as well. So once again, that's offtherecord.com TST or download the off the Record app and use code TSTPOD. TSTPOD for 10% off all legal services with off the Record. All right, guys, Today it's a crew show. I'm back. Zach's back. We had Thanksgiving in respective places and we drove some things. In this episode, I review the electric G Wagon and we talk about my first impressions of the Ineos Grenadier. Plus, we had some Thanksgiving treats, and I drove a Forerunner in Savannah, and my wife had a Cars and Coffee surprise party for me, which was pretty amazing stuff. Let's talk about all of it and a whole lot more. It's a crew show on today's episode of the Smoking Tire podcast.
Zach Klapman
Soon.
Matt Farah
But like, glasses, you know, that's an expensive lesson to learn, unfortunately.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, I bought, like, you can get cheap readers if you just need, like a fixed. But if you have a specific prescription, then they're expensive.
Matt Farah
Yeah. And the progressives are more expensive than them. Don't buy them from the optometrist ever online. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, they're way cheaper.
Matt Farah
It was. It was by. It was probably half.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Good proof.
Zach Klapman
We have proof.
Matt Farah
Proof of life. Hello. Welcome back, everyone. Enjoying being back in the office? Traffic's back. Yeah, I checked how long it took Eric to get in back. Back to max traffic this morning. We had a nice week of just a couple days cruising. Monday, Tuesday, no traffic. Freedom.
Zach Klapman
It was great last week.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Just zipping around.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Everyone's gone.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And I went to Savannah, Georgia, with some family. You went to Palm Springs? Yeah.
Zach Klapman
With all the family, Traditionally. Yep.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Doing it since the 80s.
Matt Farah
And how many dogs?
Zach Klapman
Five. Five dogs, five children. Five dogs, five children. 22 people total.
Matt Farah
How many? One home. How many homes?
Zach Klapman
Three. We all gather at one. My aunt has a house there, so we Airbnb around it in the area.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And then we go to the hub, and it's just.
Matt Farah
It's got to be mayhem.
Zach Klapman
It's a lot. It gets fun. And I love everyone, honestly, they're all fun, but there's so much happening. Like, it's like going to SEMA. You leave. Sarah and I would leave at like, 9pm and our brains were just done because all. You had so many different conversations all day long while watching the dogs, while, like, entertaining children. It was. It was exhausting.
Matt Farah
That's a lot of people to be.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
You know, in one place.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. When we got in the car, we finally dropped my parents off on Saturday for, like, the next hour and a half home. We just didn't talk. Then we got home, and we didn't talk.
Matt Farah
Man, I have enjoyed some silences, you know. What was. What's. Is that the best. What's the best silence that you can, like, remember?
Zach Klapman
The best silence?
Matt Farah
Like.
Zach Klapman
Oh, like camping, for sure.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
But not. Not nighttime. Daytime camping. You go sit on a hill, and there's just like, a little wind and a little creek and you stare at something. That's the best silence. And if you fall asleep in a hammock while camping, that's the J. Yeah.
Matt Farah
Yeah, same it. Shift that to, like, a boat, you know, like hammock between the. The Forestay and the mast, you know, at anchor. That same kind of vibe. But, like, I remember driving back two years ago from pebble beach when I drove through the hurricane, and when I left the concours on Sunday and got in that McLaren and I was like, in the car. Now I don't have to talk to anybody anymore for, like, two days. And then I didn't.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And it was.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. The recharge is rejuvenated.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Even driving a McLaren through a hurricane, it was somehow relaxing.
Zach Klapman
And that was not the quietest car to do that in because it. Because, you know, there's not a lot of ground ending. Right.
Matt Farah
No. 720 was good. No, no. Yeah. The English can build a car that works in the wet. It's proven over and over.
Zach Klapman
They have to.
Matt Farah
They. Yeah, no choice. The customer will not put up with it. What do you need? Oh, my back.
Zach Klapman
It is.
Matt Farah
You need a bacchiotomy rest.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Do you think you're gonna need surgery?
Zach Klapman
Not if I actually keep doing the thing I do.
Matt Farah
The problem is, like, doing it, like, forever is a long time, you know?
Zach Klapman
Yeah. This is the life cycle. It's. I'm really diligent. First five months of the year, it's better. I feel like Superman. Start exercising, doing other things, and I go, I could skip that today. I'm kind of doing core today, doing this other stuff. And then January, I'll hurt myself again. So that is the lunar cycle of Zach Klapman's spine.
Matt Farah
Yeah. I somehow managed to escape the orbit of that after, like, you know, two surgeries plus seven years.
Zach Klapman
But you did PT four years after surgery.
Matt Farah
The whole time. The entire time.
Zach Klapman
Exactly. Yeah.
Matt Farah
I did PT until, like, yesterday.
Zach Klapman
See, you're never. You're never done either. Surgery doesn't.
Matt Farah
No. Because if it's not my back, it's my shitty knees. It's always my something.
Zach Klapman
I'm back, focused, specifically.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah. I did back for a while, and then once back got better, I was like, I like it here. Let me, you know, fuck something else up.
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
Can you ski? I mean, I know you can, but, like, you. You shouldn't.
Zach Klapman
They said twisting is my spine's the least favorite thing. That's all. Twisting. I miss it so much. So much.
Matt Farah
Oh, you know what sucks is all my, like, ski friends don't live in LA anymore. It's very, very. Or are broken.
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
It's amazing to think that someone. That you are somehow more broken than me. You look at us and you go, guess which one is the broken one.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, it's true.
Matt Farah
It would be a pretty.
Zach Klapman
That's very, very true.
Matt Farah
Vegas would favor.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, the upset would be great.
Matt Farah
Especially with this, like, my don't give a fuck beard right now.
Zach Klapman
Someone can make a lot. Well, I have a. Don't give a f. But I don't have a beard. But what was I going to say?
Matt Farah
So anyway, if I.
Zach Klapman
If I win the lottery, I'll be hiring whoever Sean White's doctors are, or Mike Cicciarelli, any one of the Red Bull, like, slope style people. I'll be like, I'm going to hire you for a year. Just like, laser me, fix me. That's what we're doing.
Matt Farah
Yeah. I think our Dr. Watkins and Marina Del Rey is pretty close to that level.
Zach Klapman
No, no, I would start with him for sure and then go find the trainer.
Matt Farah
He's like the Cirque du Soleil. Which. Which I think is prob. Under Olympics. Right.
Zach Klapman
I think it's. No, I think it's even.
Matt Farah
I think you think it's flat because.
Zach Klapman
The same people are super.
Matt Farah
If you go to the Olympics.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, for sure.
Matt Farah
What do you do after that?
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
If you're not Simone Biles, you probably go to like Cirque du Soleil. Right?
Zach Klapman
I think a lot of them do. Or they start a fitness program on Instagram out of that. Which, fine, get your bag. Because the Olympics doesn't pay you enough and your endorsement deals might not either.
Matt Farah
No, I'm not hating at all. That's probably a good guess. I don't follow up on this sort of stuff. Just throwing it around, but. Hi, everybody. I rented a Forerunner in Savannah, which is kind of a funny choice. It's actually. Hannah picked it up, so she was like, I got this. And I was like, oh, all right. Interesting. It was like a. It was brand new. Not the updated one, not the new, new one. It's a 24.
Zach Klapman
That's not you.
Matt Farah
It is. I understand both why people like them and why I don't really like them. They just feel like. It feels like buying like a 2010 car today. Which now, today I'm driving an INEOS Grenadier, which is the attempt at selling a 1990 car today. But it really does. If you're like, I don't want all this extra shit. If you're that person that doesn't want any of the extra shit. A Toyota 4Runner is your car or the old Tacoma.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. It feels like one generation ago technology. Not one generation. Like decades, two.
Matt Farah
Yeah, this is a two generation old car.
Zach Klapman
But there's something endearing and I would say there's something comforting about that because you go, ooh, this is simple. Feels simple. Probably is going to work.
Matt Farah
Simple implies will last a very long time. I mean, you know, my sister in law, Jillian. Jillian is a very strong personality. Her fucking Forerunner. She got one. It's like cold dead hands for no real reason. She can't explain why. Just like really likes it.
Zach Klapman
I thought she had a pollster.
Matt Farah
She has a Volvo Recharge V60, right? And a Forerunner.
Zach Klapman
Oh, she's both now. Okay.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, she looks Rico now, dude.
Zach Klapman
They made. They made the Crown Vic into 2011. Like think about that. That's what the forerunner I think is one generation ago. It still feels like it's being made that old way. Simple will work. And from your cold dead hands.
Matt Farah
Hey, speaking of crazy year Shit. Eric, our general manager at Westside Collector Car Storage has a bunch of cars. He has a real car problem.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
He has to work really hard to maintain his car problem. Which is tough because it's so hard. He has to work so hard that he then doesn't have time to drive his cars. Correct. And I keep telling him to try to rectify this problem. And so he's consider including selling this car he's got which is a 997.2 Turbo S manual.
Zach Klapman
It's awesome.
Matt Farah
Very rare. Not a turbo S because they're all PDK but it's a turbo manual.2 very rare car. Big money car actually. And he could, he could do really well on it. But he told me today the car still has an extended warranty on it. It's a 997.
Zach Klapman
What?
Matt Farah
It has 18 months of extent transferable extended warranty. So he could put that car on, bring a trailer today and you could buy it with an 18 month Porsche warranty. He could sell that car for so much money.
Zach Klapman
When did he get it?
Matt Farah
Like six years ago, seven years ago. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. I look so perfect.
Matt Farah
He'll do well sub 20,000 mile car but. And maybe we will sell it and that would be fun. But I was, he was like he's a. Yeah. It starts car still has a bumper to bumper warranty. I'm like explain that to me. And he said he just like kept getting the extended.
Zach Klapman
Just kept extending.
Matt Farah
Super extended warranty.
Zach Klapman
God, the telescoping warranty.
Matt Farah
Yeah. And it's transferable to one person.
Zach Klapman
Oh yeah. Only the second owner can. All right.
Matt Farah
Like he has it right. And if he sells it, it can go to the. The buyer but they can't.
Zach Klapman
That's a good buy.
Matt Farah
But it can't then go to a third party.
Zach Klapman
Buying that car for if someone's interested. Like Eric takes great care of his cars and doesn't drive them that much.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And it has a warranty. Perfect.
Matt Farah
Crazy right?
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Like Eric, how many miles could you do in 18 months? Not that many. I was like just beat the shit out of it for 18 months and then if it's still good then go. Thank you sir. Good night and good luck and do that. And you've had the experience. But that's just me.
Zach Klapman
Speaking of warranty, my brother just bought a Pacifica hybrid Despite. Despite me advising him that that may not be the best idea. Told him your story. Told him your story. I also showed him news clippings about, you know, like, two days ago, Stellantis CEO leaves. Chrysler has fewer and fewer products. Like, it's just. And I like the Pacifica. I like the way it's great. But this is not the car to get for someone who's gonna own it for 10, 15 years, in my opinion.
Matt Farah
No.
Zach Klapman
So he, you know, he does those calls and he goes, does it. Do these third party warranties work? And I was like, I don't read the fine print, Gabe, because I don't have to. But you need to.
Matt Farah
A third party warranty.
Zach Klapman
You can get like used car warranties on this.
Matt Farah
Oh, no.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
What year is the one he bought? It's not brand new.
Zach Klapman
22 or 21. It's pretty new. But you. You know your friend Lemon? His.
Matt Farah
Yes.
Zach Klapman
Now this. This was a rental car, so it. It made it past the Lemon stage. That's a Pro. It's like 30,000 miles on it. So you know it's going to work.
Matt Farah
It's been durability tested.
Zach Klapman
Exactly. However, it's still Chrysler hybrid product. I mean, the Jeep recall was sizable.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Because of fire. So I don't know.
Matt Farah
It's such a bummer because I really like how the Pacifica drives.
Zach Klapman
Me too. It looks good inside. The captain shares the background.
Matt Farah
Seats are really nice. Drives good.
Zach Klapman
I think it still folds flat. Even though you have a hybrid battery too, I think.
Matt Farah
Well, they can't have this. Oh, they do. They patent the stow and go. Yeah, the high. I think they do. Does the hybrid one, the one rent. We rented, the gas one Definitely does.
Zach Klapman
It has third rear. Third rear stow and go. Not second. Sorry. Third row still and go. Not second row still.
Matt Farah
Very usable. Yeah, but.
Zach Klapman
But, you know, there's, like, there's Odyssey, there's Sienna. What about these? And he found that one.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Wow.
Zach Klapman
Bull report back.
Matt Farah
Yeah. I maybe get that third party warranty. Oh, man. What are you doing, bro? So yesterday was my birthday, and Hannah had a surprise. Cars and coffee in my driveway. Which is actually. It's exactly the kind of thing that Hannah would do. It is a very Hannah gift. And I'm not trying to say it's not on my Instagram. I didn't. I didn't have my phone. I didn't even bring my phone outside.
Zach Klapman
Nice. Okay.
Matt Farah
Other people had some. Oh, if I'm like, tagged in a couple of pictures, like, there was some. There Was some people there? Yeah, yeah, it was. It was. I mean, I didn't think that you could have a birthday party for somebody at 8 o'clock in the morning, but you can. As it turns out. People. People will come. Yeah. And I have a lot of great friends that came. Alex Roy came from Phoenix by 1987. 911 Targa.
Zach Klapman
Did he drive that morning or did he drove the day before?
Matt Farah
Right.
Zach Klapman
Good.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Which is amazing because he still showed up late. Like hours late hours, which is. And then parked in the driveway, which was the most. Alex moved the most everyone else parked.
Matt Farah
On the street and he left to drive straight back to Phoenix. But that's now my 40th birthday. He flew from Miami for the party and then took a red eye back to Miami.
Zach Klapman
Wow.
Matt Farah
I really appreciate Alex Roy's commitment to coming to my birthday parties. It's like, he's the best.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And. And two of those long hauls is unbelievable. But then, like, it was. People brought weird cars, like, to our neighborhood. And it looked great. It was really fun, really cool. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Sergio brought that crazy Mini Cooper.
Matt Farah
Oh, yeah.
Zach Klapman
That was sitting in his garage. We went to this F1 party and there's this like, army green Mini Cooper. And from across the room, I look at Sarah and I go, that's rear engine.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
We walk over. Yes. But it looks like it's not as tidy as the Gildred one. It's not like that. This looks like a guy built it. One person. And it's supercharged and turbocharged, I think.
Matt Farah
But they took the supercharger off. It's just a turbo. It's like a Honda K20 with a turbo on it. I didn't think it was street legal.
Zach Klapman
I didn't think it ever got driven. I saw it, I was like, I understand why someone would buy this as an ornament in their collection. This is a psychotic machine. And then it rolled down the street.
Matt Farah
That was Sergio's son driving.
Zach Klapman
That's so cool.
Matt Farah
Yeah. You have to be very young to drive something. Like, he's like in his 20s, no back problems.
Zach Klapman
You're like, I'm invincible.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah. For sure. Sergio is in the xke, which was exceptional. And yeah, everybody came. They had guisados burritos, which were so fucking good. And Corey comes into my house. Hannah was setting up outside with all this shit and wouldn't let me come outside or look outside until 8am But I was up at like 6. So the whole. I'm up the whole time they're setting everything up.
Zach Klapman
Did you know things were being set up? And she just said, don't go outside.
Matt Farah
She said, you can't go outside.
Zach Klapman
Oh, that's fun. Okay.
Matt Farah
And like, you know, in my house, like, I've got that, like, read glass, which, like, I can see, like, lots of motion outside. And I can clearly hear things being set up. And at one point I was hearing like, an impact wrench. Like, I don't. I was like. I thought there was like a pit stop happening out there. I don't know what the fuck is going on. Then I start hearing cars. And even though LA is like, there's always cars. I live on a very quiet street and a car going by is a rare thing. So to start hearing cars on a Sunday morning at 8am would be very unusual. Especially like, hearing like, oh, that's like a flat 6. I can hear like, oh, that. Wait, no, that's like an inline six with carburetors. Like, that's. That's a turbo, you know, whatever is in this mini. And on and on. Like, oh, that's an interesting engine. And Hannah came back inside. Is there a cars and coffee or something happening outside? Like, I actually guessed it. A couple.
Zach Klapman
That's amazing.
Matt Farah
And she was like, go find out. So, yes, there was.
Zach Klapman
That's so cool.
Matt Farah
Lots of people in my driveway. Except Corey was the first person to come in. And he goes, here's your mimosa at, like, 7:40. And I figured something was going on and that somebody was here. So here's Corey. I'm like, oh, so I guess I'm, like, drinking like, before 8:00am like, this is. That's pretty hardcore. All right, let's go. And I was like, if there's a. When I found out the car is coffee with Hannah, people don't usually drink. That's true.
Zach Klapman
But people did. Yeah. I saw a lot of people had one.
Matt Farah
People did. Yeah. Well, a lot of. A lot of people who were there were also, like, my neighbors. And.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And like, were walked.
Zach Klapman
When I looked around and saw people I didn't know, I was like, probably neighbor neighbors. Neighbor stroller.
Matt Farah
Probably neighbor stroller trainer. Oh, that's my trainer.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
Yeah, shout out fit like Sean, book him in la. But, yeah, good people, good times. And then, you know, I'm going tonight funky. The Evan funky restaurant. The. That's the Felix guy Restaurant. Yeah. There's an episode of Chef's Table about it. It's called Funky. It's OG pasta stuff. Cool. It's gonna be amazing.
Zach Klapman
Very good.
Matt Farah
But yeah, to everyone who participated in that ruse. Cause I guess everyone knew about it.
Zach Klapman
We all knew about it weeks ago.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
It was challenging to not say, I'll see you Sunday.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Like, when I left for Palm Springs, I was like, all right, bye. And my brain was like, don't say see you Sunday. Don't do it. Yeah.
Matt Farah
And Hannah had, like, stuff, stuff quotes hidden all over the house that even if I found, I wouldn't be able to associate associated with anything. She hid, like, bags of ice. Like, she hid a bag of ice in the freezer. Like she didn't want you to see the bag of ice. I was like, how would I been like, there's a bag of ice here and therefore there's a party at 8:00 in the morning.
Zach Klapman
You wouldn't have put the 8:00am together. You probably would have been like, it's winter time. No, we have an ice machine.
Matt Farah
No.
Zach Klapman
What was I going to say? Oh, I had. And I had it on my calendar for a while, but it just said, like. But it was on Zach. My calendars are set up to, like, mirror each other.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
So I don't miss things. But then when I put it on Zach Klapman, it got put on Zach, the smoking tire. And I was like, I think Matt could see this calendar if he wanted to. I know you don't have it turned on.
Matt Farah
I don't have it turned on, nor would you.
Zach Klapman
But I'm like, what if this is the week that Farrah decides.
Matt Farah
I'm like, let me see what she's doing.
Zach Klapman
Activate to see, you know, to schedule something. And it's like Matt's birthday party. And then I'm the one who gets killed by. By Hannah.
Matt Farah
Yeah. No, Hannah would have murdered. I think on the invite, there were threats of violence.
Zach Klapman
It said, if you do that, I will kill you if you tip that off. So I deleted it from my calendar. And Sarah goes, are we not going to that anymore? I was like, no, no, we are, but we just can't. We can't tip our show.
Matt Farah
Our cars. Yeah. And you know, of course, like, Magnus and his Hannah. Hannah Elliott from Bloomberg, who also writes about cars. I only say his hair. I have my own Hannah. Right. You know, it's eight in the morning, but they show up dressed like, you know, they're going to like a fucking nighttime party. Because that's just how they dress.
Zach Klapman
They dress.
Matt Farah
That's how they dress all the time. But it's still, like, it's stark. When I was like, hoodie and flip flops.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. Very different.
Matt Farah
What's going on in my driveway right now? Yeah, good times though. Good fucking times. Also got the new the New Road and tracks out in print. I have four fucking stories in it, so go buy that. Did you see that there's a Senna thing on Netflix. Folks, we gotta take a quick break from today's episode because Delete Me is supporting this one. We love them. And they are back. Listen, has someone that you know or maybe yourself, been a victim of identity theft or maybe harassed, stalked, doxxed? Right. Here's what my problem is. Robocalls. I hate them. To the point where I picked up a real call today and I started with the line, are you a human? Which is something I've been conditioned to do because I have so many robocalls. Personal data is out there on the Internet for anyone to see and more than you think. Your name and contact info, Social Security number, home address, etc. Even information about your family members are all being compiled by data brokers and sold online. And they make a profit off it. Your data is a commodity. Anyone on the web can buy your private details, which can lead to identity theft, phishing attempts, harassment, spam and more. But now you can protect your privacy. With Delete Me. I used it. It was so easy. All I did was make an account like same usual information. But then they started asking me very basic questions about my past. Where I lived, where I worked, phone numbers, who I'm related to, where I went to, and on and on. It took about 20 minutes. Then they went to work and I didn't hear from them for a couple of days. And then I got this email summary saying they found like 1,000 bits of information. Most of them could get automatically removed. But then there was a process where I had to go through and individually select about, I don't know, 20 or 25 different things, which was like, we found this. Are you related to this person? Is this phone number related to you? Is this address related to you? And it was yes, no, yes, no, yes, no. Took a few more minutes and then a couple weeks later I got another email, same kind of thing. And deleteme, it's not just a one time service. It's always working in the background, constantly monitoring and removing the personal information you don't want on the Internet. Delete Me does all the hard work of wiping you and your family's personal information from data broker websites. So take control of your data. I heard about it at your party and. But it's a live action remix.
Matt Farah
It's a right. It's a dramatization. Yes. And I. Of the. I've seen the first. Watched the first three and the. I mean, not that I'm a Senna historian, but I've read a bunch of stuff about Senna and seen the documentary, so I can't say if it's, like, how, like, perfectly factual. But it does do that movie thing where it sort of neatly packages otherwise possibly slightly messy things in his life. Like, in order to demonstrate that he's like a ladies man, they have him, like, interact with this person this way. That may or may not have been how he interacted, but they need a thing to show that he's, like, a ladies man.
Zach Klapman
Gotcha.
Matt Farah
In order to show that he's, like, against the FIA and the rules, they need to show, like, this little snippet. It doesn't mean it's not entertaining and it doesn't mean that, like, so far it gets, like, the gist of what Senna's like about pretty well. Yeah. I've seen the first three of six.
Zach Klapman
Episode four is called Passion. So that might be about romance as well.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
I don't know. What did you think about it? Was it fun to see that story again? Because we've watched the docs, so, like.
Matt Farah
This is like, everything that is on Netflix and et cetera, now it's streaming. They're doing. They're doing the thing on streaming that was happening on websites in, like, 2013. Remember when every website was a fucking slideshow to get clicks? Here's the 30 things. And click through the slideshow. Like clickbait in a page. That's what this is. This should be sort of like the documentary, you know, two to three hours could be one bit, maybe two bits, but it's like a three hours of good content.
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
And that it's, you know, six hours of content here doesn't necessarily make it, like, richer. Yeah, there's a bunch of, like, extraneous shit in there, too.
Zach Klapman
Well, there's a problem we talked about with the docs here, I think a month ago where this should have been three episodes, but it was four.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Should have been two, but it was three. And like, the producer want. Wants to sell more of larger product to Netflix and they just stretch one thread longer than it needs to be. Yeah. So that can be annoying.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
As well. Like, did. You know, are like, is the driving all cgi or is there some practical. Like, does it give you that?
Matt Farah
It's a March scale. It's a mixture. It's largely practical driving. Like, some background stuff is cg. It isn't exactly like Ford verse Ferrari level of production.
Zach Klapman
Is it better than driven?
Matt Farah
Well, it's like. Because it's done, like, a lot of, like, car to car stuff. It's done, like, slightly. It's slower than race pace in a lot of ways. So it's like a good, like, movie pace, but it's not necessarily, like, the full Hollywood level of excitement.
Zach Klapman
Do they do that thing where the cars are close for car to car, but the car that's looking to pass is constantly moving left and right to check, and in real F1, they stay in the slipstream until they have their moment? Really?
Matt Farah
Pretty much, yeah.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. You see that? Oh, he's taking a look. You have to communicate an urgency to get past, but you can't do that just showing a driver's helmet not moving, you know, a furrowed brow.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah. And they also do this thing where they recreate exact, like, interviews that he's done. Like real Senate interviews like that appear in the documentary Senna. They recreate those scenes exactly with actors, I think, in an effect. I mean, they're good. The reason those scenes ended up in the documentary in the first place is because they're good representations of something that the filmmaker is trying to get across. And so they serve the same purpose in this reenacted version. But I think they're also trying to use them to be like, see how close we are to the real thing. You know, and it makes you think the rest of it is, if you've seen the real interview and you go, okay, let's see how close they get to this interview bit. Because I know what the real one was. I've seen that movie a bunch. But it's. If you're interested in Senna or F1 at all, like, yeah, I guess it's worth your time. It's a thing to. It's a thing to watch.
Zach Klapman
It's a car thing to watch.
Matt Farah
It's a car thing to watch. I haven't so far learned A whole lot that's, like, new about Ayrton Senna.
Zach Klapman
Right. I Mean, Senna the doc is an amazing documentary, even if you're not into F1, and if you're into cars, then it's obviously that much better. It's just well constructed. I never watched. Did you watch the Animated Series? Lucky. That was all about. Oh, my God. The guy who's president of Formula One for, like, 30. Bernie Eccleston.
Matt Farah
Oh. Oh, it was written Animated series.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, it was written and produced by the same guy who wrote Senna the doc.
Matt Farah
Oh, really?
Zach Klapman
Manish Pandy. Yeah, he's on Chris's.
Matt Farah
Yeah, he's friends with Chris.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, yeah, he did that, which is supposed to be very good, but it was, like, locked behind like a Paramount Disney plus thing when it was out. And I just wasn't gonna subscribe just to watch that.
Matt Farah
I'm sure we could probably fucking know.
Zach Klapman
You're listening.
Matt Farah
Hit somebody else. This is your favorite show, Shady Ass Copy. For critiquing.
Zach Klapman
Ask Chris. Like, hey, can you.
Matt Farah
Critiquing purposes?
Zach Klapman
Yeah, Send us an MP4 up through iMessage.
Matt Farah
WhatsApp. Me?
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
I apparently am, like, the only person who doesn't use WhatsApp. I have it. Like, it exists, but I never check it. And people, like, hit me up on it and like, I look at it, like, once a month and I'm. And I just. I guess everyone else on the entire planet uses it except me pretty much.
Zach Klapman
It's really popular outside the U.S. a lot of press launches. They've added me to things for that. And. But I've only used it in the US with improv friends because it was the easiest. It's way better. The system is easier to add and remove people who are not on iPhone. Like, if you start a group chat on iPhone and someone's on Android.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Zach Klapman
If you don't add them in the beginning, they cannot get in. This is a boat that leaves the harbor. So that's dumb. So WhatsApp is way better at that. So we for that. But otherwise. Yeah, otherwise I check it and I go, oh, spam from China.
Matt Farah
But then occasionally it's like, oh, Phil from England.
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
Sorry, Phil. If you're out there. Because that's the example is very true. Like, Phil will hit me up, like, two weeks later. I'll be like, oh, shit, sorry, I didn't. We never talked about the electric G Wagon, which I took off roading. I. Yeah, this was right before I left. And there are photos and the spinny thing that's the spin. Of course you have to have the spinny thing. Just. That could just be your like screensaver indefinitely. Just spinning G wagon. Mercedes should have a little spinning G wagon screensaver. That would be a good fun like accessory. I have to say that I very much liked the electric G Wagon. I thought it made a great city vehicle. It looks basically other than the non spare tire. Spare tire that holds a. That thing is dumb. Especially if you're going to go off roading. You do want a spare tire and I didn't have one. But in the city, you know, small footprint, upright, easy to see the corners of the vehicle, really easy to park, great visibility. I didn't miss the gas engine at all. The smoothness. This is really, it's really too fast probably. It's got a lot of power for something that's that heavy. And it really does feel exactly like a G Wagon. That's electric, which is nice. You know, very easy to adjust the recuperation with the steering wheel paddles and the one pedal drive works really nice if you've turned it up and. And it's pretty much exactly what I would want an electric G Wagon to be. And you gotta turn. You got the fake sound which they call G ROAR G-R O A R. You gotta turn that off because it's just no good. Imagine a synthesized twin turbo V8 like the old car used but mated to a CVT.
Zach Klapman
Ooh, yeah. Oh, right. So it's never shifting.
Matt Farah
Awful. Just get rid of it. Embrace that you're in the electric one. But it's, it's going to be funny where the level of like D baggery crosses over if G Wagon, DB D Baggery and Tesla D Baggery intersect.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
You know, they've really, they've crossed the streams, I bet.
Zach Klapman
I think people, I think a lot of people would sell their cyber truck for this and make that change. You know, like you've done the cybertruck thing, you've been the meme. But if you don't like some of its compromises because some of like politics aside, like it's not great at being a pickup truck in a bunch of ways, and this is a better people carrier in some ways than I could see people making the show.
Matt Farah
You know what, I'm gonna stop you there, buddy. It's not a better people carrier in the very literal sense of the word, like a cybertruck's piece of shit. But excuse me, in terms of like, can you fit five people? A cybertruck can. Better Than this. The rear seat room in G wagons is not good. So I mean a literal sense that's fair. If you're carrying around five adults regularly, you don't want any G wagon. But the electric one, it's a little worse. The battery in the floor, it raises the floor up a little bit and it's like just, just enough difference in leg room that I like really noticed it that I couldn't like straighten my legs or back seat in the front seat with the driver's seat all the way down, all the way back. I couldn't straighten my legs quite enough whereas I could in the other car. But off roading, what an animal. The best. Absolutely. Some of the, the most pleasant off roading I've ever done. I mean I'd have to go, I mean pretty. It's going to be pretty good. We've got. I did that. We've got the eneos outside now. We can do that. And then we have the new tri motor Rivian next week. So we can go, we can go pretty close but like it's hard to say if this vs. Rivian whatever but four motors really just super, super, super capable. I did bottom like high center sort of bottom out just a little. Just one of these. Just a. But that was it. And this was on like street, street tires. I dropped them by like 10 psi because I didn't want to have a flat up there. But we did. Me and Timmy went up there and we did the hardest section possible with each of the choice things because that's what Johnny said to do and it was like aces, just so good.
Zach Klapman
The torque control with electric cars, it makes it, it makes it a lot easier to go off roading. It makes it easier to ascend things because you have such precise control over the wheels and so much strength right off of idle. There's none of that get the turbo spooled like the ZR2 Canyon. I drove like great off road truck. But you still have that moment of hesitation where you have to add throttle. It starts sending the power to the rear end. It starts to twist the wheel and the tire and then it grips up. And this is like. As you're talking, this reminds me. This will sound weird but off roading electric vehicles reminds me of walking.
Matt Farah
Yeah, no, it's totally true.
Zach Klapman
Like the control you have over your footing.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Zach Klapman
And also the silence and like the immediate forward movement.
Matt Farah
Well, that was the best we did, you know, we did all of the rower trail, you know with the windows down because I love the silence. Of electric off roading. Walking is the probably the most concise description of it I've heard. That's what it feels like with this thing. Even on those tires. There was, you know, the. Think of the sound of off roading. Think of the sound of little bits of slip under the wheels. That like kind of like grindy noise against dirt. Crunchy grindy noise. There was less of that than any car I've ever driven up the hill. Like there was never these. Those little bits of the tire slips and then catches. Slips and then catches that. That happens in all off roading. Even with like very good traction control. This was like. It wasn't just like one to one with like throttle to wheel motion that then went further to ground, like pedal to ground. There was no like, it was just like up. It was like pretty amazing except for one spot that was very steep uphill and deep loose sand where that was like. I mean I had to. Where we had to back up for four feet and then take a slightly different line. But even that I think was like just that these tires don't work on loose sand, Especially when it's steep.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, these are street tires.
Matt Farah
They're street tires. So like I think if you had the right tire it would, it would have done that too. But it was. It's extremely inefficient on the highway because it's a cube.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
In the city, totally fine in low speeds. You know, suburban type speeds, totally fine, reasonably efficient highway speeds.
Zach Klapman
Did you have to charge after off roading before coming back to la or did you make.
Matt Farah
No, I went. Oh shit. Okay. So I left the house at a hundred to go to rower. Can you look up. Just use, don't use my house. Use here to rower because it's as close as. Makes no difference here there. So it took 65%. Excuse me, that's wrong. Took 35% the opposite to get from here with a full charge to the base of that hill. Now that has some elevation. It's got some couple like sort of windy mountain passes to cross. But just tell me how many miles it is. You don't have to show the route.
Zach Klapman
45.
Matt Farah
Okay, so it took, it took. It used 35 of its of its percentage points to go 45 miles.
Zach Klapman
Geez.
Matt Farah
That's.
Zach Klapman
That is an effective range of 135.
Matt Farah
That is not good. Right? Okay. So I was. As we were going up the hill, I was like dude, you know that math isn't great, you know, so. Okay, but. But there was. But it is uphill There is an elevation change there. It's not insignificant. So, okay, fine. So we go from the trail itself is about 7 miles, which doesn't sound that long, but you're going like two to three miles an hour for a decent amount of it. It's about an hour up. And so from there we went from 65% battery to 55% battery. So 10% to get up the trail. But I was like, okay, we're now at the top. We're going to turn around and go back home. We have 55%, so I'm pretty confident we're going to make it. It's not going to be a problem. I recouped 4% going back down the trail. So when we got down to the bottom of the trail, we were back to 59%. And then as it was downhill getting home, we were much more efficient. And I got home with like 40% or something charged. So ultimately it was fine. But it was. But when I left the house in the morning with like full charge, not that cold, it said like 245 miles to empty. And so when I blew through 35% charge in 45 miles, I was like, yo, you are a liar. You are lying to me. That's crazy how much you're lying to me right now. But it turned out to be fine. I do not recommend this as a highway road trip vehicle. It's just, it's, it's not, it defeats the purpose of the thing.
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
But as a city car, especially if you're under 6ft tall and won't notice the couple inches of floor. So nice. It's so nice. I liked it.
Zach Klapman
It's a very expensive golf cart. Because it's like a city vehicle. Because there's a reason loosens are shaped the way they are.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Their CFD is so low.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
This is not shaped like that. No, but, but I think it's cool because I mean, you know, the long, long tail emissions, all the other things, blah, blah. I don't want to get into the math, but like if you're just going to look for an ev, like I like the size of this, the maneuverability of the G wagon in the city. It's very small.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Like it's short so it's easy to turn and park and.
Matt Farah
All right.
Zach Klapman
Then you're not just firing up a V8 to drive around town.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
A lot of people do that here.
Matt Farah
Yeah. I mean, versus driving an AMG G wagon, which is the most inefficient passenger car that Mercedes sells.
Zach Klapman
What didn't we see was the most. One of the most on the planet. Sold on the planet.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So by, by moving away from that and this thing drives really good and for most people, they don't need to go. It's probably legit. It's probably like a 200 mile range if you're not going up and down a big hill and whatever. I really liked it. I, I think most people obviously are not going to go off roading with it, which is a shame because it's exceptional at it. Really exceptional. And it really made me be like, okay, if I got Ali's range trailer and I could tow that with the G wagon and then maybe have a Can Am or one of those on the trailer, you could recharge the G wagon also from the trailer while you're.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
There's probably some math for that.
Zach Klapman
You'd have an extended range.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Zach Klapman
Still limited of course, but yeah, maybe.
Matt Farah
I don't know.
Zach Klapman
The question is, can you go from LA to A. I mean you could go to rower, but could you go out to like Ocotillo Wells or place where like, you know, Johnson Valley somewhere you can go fast than a Can Am.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I mean it's, it's. You could probably get to. Oh, how far is Mojave? Well, Mojave. You have to charge up again in Mojave and then go out to Jawbone. But, but it's a bummer because it's so good off road. But most people won't be able to. Although ski house, maybe some snow tires on it. Be a fucking boss move.
Zach Klapman
Really good in the snow.
Matt Farah
In the snow, you know, at your vacation house, whatever. It was expensive. It was 190 grand this one. But it delivers on the things that I want from a G wagon and it fixes one of the biggest problems about G wagons, mainly that a giant V8 to make that thing go really fast off the line is not even the best way to go really fast off the line.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, like that's funny that it's still inefficient, but at least it's.
Matt Farah
Well, the shape efficiency comes from the powertrain and also the shape. Right. The powertrain makes the difference below aerodynamic real speeds. And then on the highway it's about your shape and, and you know, all that kind of stuff but your gearing or blah, blah, blah. But yeah, inefficient still. But a good G wagon. But that square thing on the back like that. I see what they're doing. They want to make it look different in any way they can. And rather than having a spare tire, it's got this thing where the spare tire would go. That's a square, A rounded square. It's like. Let's call it an apple square. Like, it looks like a case of AirPods.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. Pillow. Yeah. AirPod.
Matt Farah
AirPod case. Right. And you open it horizontally.
Zach Klapman
And in it is a gas engine.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Is a pouch with the 110 cable, the portable charge cable. The pouch takes up maybe 40% of the area of that thing.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
And that's all that's in it. Now I get it that maybe they wanted to try to trim weight somehow by not having a big, heavy spare tire. I get it. If they wanted a place to put the charge cable that isn't inside the trunk. I get it. If they wanted to just make it look visually different but like it. That's a big box on the back to hold a small thing that most people don't need to be carrying with them most of the time. And going off road with no spare tire is sketchy. It sketched me out. I was worried about blowing a tire. I would have felt a lot better if it had a tire on it. Maybe it's an option.
Zach Klapman
I wonder if they did market research and went, most people would rather bring this cable than will go off road in this. I mean, the number of people that will offer these things is so small. But also, I remember that G wagons. The trunk space isn't that big.
Matt Farah
No, true.
Zach Klapman
It's a pretty short space space. Tall but narrow. It's like a book. So moving that cable to the outside, it kind of does free up a.
Matt Farah
Little bit of space. Yeah. But it's.
Zach Klapman
I get it.
Matt Farah
And if you're not going off road, then fine, Whatever.
Zach Klapman
When you're up. There you go. I really wish I had a tire. Because we're. If we don't.
Matt Farah
If we pop this.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, yeah, totally.
Matt Farah
The INEOS has a full size spare in the bed. It's the pickup.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. It's got a roll bar, too.
Matt Farah
It's aggressive. Yeah, it's really. But we'll get to that in a second. But no, I. But this G wagon, it had a lot of charm to it. Literally zero. People was like, oh, is that the electric G wagon? Like, no one cares if it's electric, but it is. It is actually very, very nice to drive. And the axis spins are pretty fucking rapid there. That's a good party trick.
Zach Klapman
If it's wet on the ground or if you're in the dirt, it's Pretty rad.
Matt Farah
Yeah. It's a good time.
Zach Klapman
It moves forward like, one foot. When you did it in the wet, it moved forward like, one foot.
Matt Farah
Yeah. And in the dirt, it really didn't move forward at all. I think you're really only supposed to do it in the dirt. But it was raining. I had a literal empty parking lot, and it was raining. How could I not?
Zach Klapman
I have said that to police officers before. What do you expect us to do, sir? Get out of here.
Matt Farah
Even Hannah enjoyed that.
Zach Klapman
Really?
Matt Farah
Hannah was like, is this gonna make me throw up? I was like, I don't think so.
Zach Klapman
Maybe.
Matt Farah
No, it did. It didn't. But by the end of. After I did two, she was like, that, too, is good.
Zach Klapman
And then you goosed it out. And everyone. That actually wowed people a lot.
Matt Farah
Really.
Zach Klapman
Because the acceleration was ridiculous and it was silent. You just went. Yeah.
Matt Farah
You could really yump that exit of that driveway too.
Zach Klapman
It would be bad if you did.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Landing would be. Everyone would celebrate and call the police. The ambulance.
Matt Farah
Yeah. But first impressions real quick of the Enos. I've driven it six miles.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
I drove it. No, probably more than that. I drove it to South Bay, and then I drove it here. That's what I've done. It is. It definitely has the vibe you want if. The vibe. If you want the old Defender vibe. Without dealing with an old Defender. Got it. Check the box. It's basically right there. And it's got the. The aircraft panels are so great. Visibility is great. Pop hatches. Fantastic.
Zach Klapman
Can you read the buttons and the controls well enough? In the early ones, they, like. Andrew Frankel said the font was very small on a lot of these controls, and there are many of them, so you need to know what they do.
Matt Farah
The font wasn't the problem, but the car was parked in front of my house, and it's pretty sunny out today. It's a lovely day. And when you press the button to turn something on, there's a very small red LED to indicate whether the function is on or not. In sun, those are really hard to see. So a couple times I had to shade it.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
And go. Is that on or not? The real quick in the city ride. Exceptional. Nailed the ride. Beautiful. The steering is like rental U Haul.
Zach Klapman
Wow. Loose.
Matt Farah
Really bad. It's really bad.
Zach Klapman
It's not okay.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Not good.
Zach Klapman
True to the defender name.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah. If you're. If you want to cosplay old defending, you're in the game. Yeah. Think. Think like Jeep JK Play.
Zach Klapman
So there's play in the wheel play.
Matt Farah
And lots of turns. Lots of turns and lots of having to unwind. It doesn't unwind, like, in a way that's like, quick.
Zach Klapman
You need a spinner knob.
Matt Farah
It would be good with a spinner knob. But the vibe, pretty exceptional so far. We'll have a lot more to talk about.
Zach Klapman
I'm going to drive it this week, too.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
It sounds like they really nailed the Defender cosplay because it doesn't drive great, but it sounds like it rides better than the Defender. The Defender did not ride well.
Matt Farah
Well, it's like. It's funny because I also drove this 4Runner, so it's like, all right, so there is clearly a market for people who want a car that feels like it was built 10 years ago, because it basically is the same car that was built to be built 10 years ago. And so there's a mark. So there's clearly a market for that. This guy who started eneos, as we learned, like, I'm sure, like, he wants to build a car that people. But he. I don't know how well he. How big the market actually is for people that want to, like, do that vibe that much. Because there are, like, some reasons that when Land Rover wanted to bring back the name Defender that they didn't do this.
Zach Klapman
Very true. And there's also reasons why other cars were successful in pulling market share away from Land Rover and also why Jeep has tried with every generation to refine things like steering and highway manners. Because. Because it's a complaint that people have.
Matt Farah
You know, and so far, I'm not entirely sure why I would. I haven't. I don't have an MSRP for the one we're driving. I think it's got quite a bit of options on it. But even looking at the website right now, the base price is 86. 9. That's like Bronco Raptor wheelhouse. And I think, you know, for that type of money, I think I might, so far I might be on that type of vibe. Just. Honestly, just because of the steering. Like, even when we first drove the new Bronco, like the regular one, and it was like, oh, rack and pinion steering. There's a reason, like, we use this now on stuff instead of the recirculating ball steering.
Zach Klapman
Do you think that this. Like, there's an overlap maybe in the market of Bronco Raptor and this, But I don't think it's a circle. Do you think this attracts people that would look at Bronco Raptor and, like, it's a Very bro y truck, right? Yeah.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And with that comes whatever assumptions people have or, you know, that are watching someone drive that truck.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
So do you think that this is the vinyl record alternative to that?
Matt Farah
This is very much a.
Zach Klapman
The Royal Enfield Vital.
Matt Farah
Royal Enfield Triumph Bonneville vinyl record, Leica camera. It's that crowd, which is fine. And I think that for 86 grand, or let's call it 95, whatever you're going to buy from Mercedes or BMW or Porsche or any European SUV maker is pretty much not going to be as rugged as this.
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
And there is a global market for people who want rugged. They want manual switches and knobs. Like, I totally get. It's really nice to drive a car where the only thing on the screen is my little fucking carplay, you know, with where I'm going and everything else is just a knob with a light on it. Like that's pretty sweet. I'm so excited to drive this thing at night. My eyes are going to be like.
Zach Klapman
Oh yeah, get a break from contrast.
Matt Farah
Adjustment, you know, but. And there's people that will not mind the steering at all. Oh, here's another thing. You have to turn the ad shit off every time you start it. Which she said. But it's fucking deep in the menu. Deep, deep in the menus. I did it. So maybe there's a faster way to do it. Maybe I don't have to turn off all of them, but so far it takes me about 90 seconds to turn them all off. It's a lot.
Zach Klapman
I'm wondering if there's a law that the ADAs can't be too easy to disable.
Matt Farah
I cannot believe that.
Zach Klapman
David Tuig, I know you're listening. Let us know if that was something you had to deal with at Alpine.
Matt Farah
Yeah, it's tough. That would be. So far I've only had to do it twice, but it's a pretty tough thing to.
Zach Klapman
Well, you think that's hard? I stumbled on a Reddit post how to die, how to deactivate ADAs. In BYD cars, you have to open a fuse box and take a fuse clip out that's labeled adas.
Matt Farah
You can pull the fuse on adas.
Zach Klapman
Is dangerous, but this is one Reddit.
Matt Farah
Post that's a boss move. Do you think there's a fuse labeled adas?
Zach Klapman
Probably. I don't know if you label but like, like look at whatever sensors talk to it.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Have to run through a fuse. If you pull fuse for now, the question is, do they bundle that fuse with other things you like to use. Because that's one of the funny things you discover when you blow a fuse.
Matt Farah
In a car, what it's connected to.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, I was trying to fix Sarah's house to headlight or something and I just say I pulled one fuse and it was radio, CD and power locks and I went hold the fuck on the drawbridge. Control is the same as the bell on top of the tower. Like what are we doing? One is important, one is just for fun.
Matt Farah
That's pretty funny. Yeah, we had, I've had that at the house too where like I had a thing. There's a wall of the house and like there's a set of outlets on the inside of the wall, a set of outlets on the outside of the wall. And you don't immediately understand that those two things are connected because one is like outside.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And like this is the kitchen. What are you talking about? And like that thing over there is also on that circuit.
Zach Klapman
So if you plug too many things in outside, you can't plug things in the kitchen. Yeah, I wouldn't expect.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, right. We have, we're going to go off roading in the Eneos. I have, I had to get, I got some instructions because it's, you know the stuff in it is like, it's. It's like a car from 25 or 30 years ago. So it's the manual lever for this and you have to do the thing while doing the thing. It's like it's not, not, it's not, you know, press a button and you're in the mode.
Zach Klapman
Do you have to lock the hubs?
Matt Farah
You don't have to get out of the car to lock the hubs? No, it's got locking diffs and it's got high and low range but it's all manual process which if you're used to off roading like old ass vehicles, it's totally normal thing but if you're not. Right. So I have done it with older cars but, but they still, you know there was a, there was a tutorial.
Zach Klapman
I don't mind a refresher. It's been a long time since I slowed down and pulled four wheel drive and like which miles per hour do I have to go so I don't burn this thing? You know everything out. So.
Matt Farah
Yeah, well the transfer case, you have to come to a stop and put it in neutral. But the diffs you want to do while rolling slowly.
Zach Klapman
Dude, in 94, 95 when we got. My family got a Grand Cherokee and we no longer had to stop, to lock the hubs in the scout, like, on the way to skiing. It was life changing. Like, as a kid, I was like, wait a minute. We can just keep going. And you pull a lever. Holy shit. This changes everything.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Incredible.
Matt Farah
When I had the H1 Hummer, one of the cooler things about it, you know, it had central tire inflation, which was unbelievable. I mean, it was, like, noisy, you know, and you didn't want to do it really, while driving.
Zach Klapman
Did you do that? How often did you do it to help yourself, not just to show it.
Matt Farah
Oh, well, because, I mean, think about how gnarly anything needs to be in a Hummer for you to need to air down. You're already at the 95th percentile of off roading at that point.
Zach Klapman
Totally. I was just curious when you said it a bunch of times. Yeah.
Matt Farah
No, just to show people. And I had the car in winter, from a winter into a summer. So I used it to adjust the tire pressures and. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Saw a black H1 Hummer today parked in front of a collision center, like, as a promo vehicle.
Matt Farah
Oh, really?
Zach Klapman
It's wild how big they look. Even though I know that they're like the size of a Bronco Raptor. Just the way the proportions look. They look humongous.
Matt Farah
Yeah, the proportions are very weird in those things. Yeah, they're just not great to drive. But I am excited to take the eneos out because, like, off roading, like, I have grown to really love easy off roading. I don't mean easy obstacles. I mean, I like when a car, unlike on a road or a track, I like where an off road car really makes me just be able to relax, point the car, get up the thing and enjoy kind of the journey to wherever I'm going.
Zach Klapman
I agree. Yeah, it's fun.
Matt Farah
There's people that really love working at that. At that off road.
Zach Klapman
Well, some people want to winch.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
You know, that's the.
Matt Farah
That's that degree ineos has a winch. It comes with it.
Zach Klapman
That's for somebody.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
I'll do it one day because I have to. But I don't want to enter the event where you have to winch your way across the bog and it's like a timed competition.
Matt Farah
That's it for me. Well, we might be going to King of the Hammers in February. Ford invited us out there.
Zach Klapman
We should say yes.
Matt Farah
They said they would set us up. I don't know where we'd be sleeping. Somewhere, whatever. As long as it's.
Zach Klapman
As long as it's out of the way of where people drive at night after they have finished cooking their Bud Light. I'm fine. Like, I love that event so much.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
So they said they would. They'd hook us up with either a Bronco Raptor or something. We go out there for a couple days, which does seem really fun. I've wanted to do that.
Zach Klapman
So you've never been?
Matt Farah
I've never been.
Zach Klapman
I've only been once, but yeah, it's.
Matt Farah
It seems.
Zach Klapman
Oh, man, I can't wait to see your face when you. At nighttime.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
You'll look out at a hill and you will just see a train of lights, like bright LEDs. And I'm talking like miles and miles away. All you see is the train of LEDs moving and shaking their way up. What you saw in the daytime is a gnarly rock crawl. So people will go out at night for fun.
Matt Farah
Just for fun.
Zach Klapman
This is not the race. This is people for funsies going out in their crazy contraptions and side by side.
Matt Farah
And the percentage of these people that are wasted is.
Zach Klapman
I don't know. I can't. I would not speculate.
Matt Farah
But I. But you have to say. You have to say it's a non zero. It's not zero.
Zach Klapman
I don't. And look, people who are. Who do this event a lot. Maybe you can speak on that more in the comments. But it blew my mind to see how much nighttime off roading there was at such a aggressive degree. No pun intended. I was like that shit. I knew where they were because I'd been there earlier in the day. And I was like, those people are out of their fucking mind. It's really cool.
Matt Farah
Freedom's a hell of a drug.
Zach Klapman
It's rad, dude. And then the buggies, I mean, they're doing 120 miles an hour across the Whoops. Then they go into the pit, they slow down. Then they have to go and do five miles an hour up a rock wall. It's pretty crazy what the vehicles can do.
Matt Farah
Yeah. It seems awesome. I definitely want to go. What do I. What do you wear to this event?
Zach Klapman
Everything.
Matt Farah
Just something. Oh, because it's like a 50 degree temperature sway.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. So daytime it's sunny, but there's like windstorms sometimes it could be Sandy and then nighttime, you know, especially if you're. If we're just hanging out, walking around the pits like, you'll be cold. It's like 30, 40 degrees, maybe worse. So bring down stuff.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Puffy things.
Matt Farah
Okay. That sounds like a fucking good Time.
Zach Klapman
Mm.
Matt Farah
And you bring whiskey and guns, right?
Zach Klapman
Whiskey, for sure. I don't know if you're allowed to bring firearms. I mean, I didn't hear anyone shooting a firearm, really.
Matt Farah
Surprising.
Zach Klapman
Maybe way, way out. Someone is. But I don't think you're supposed to do that in Hammertown. Like, that's not. Okay.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Zach Klapman
It's not safe.
Matt Farah
Of course it's not safe. There's a big difference in safe and what's acceptable out there.
Zach Klapman
That's very true, I think. In the Hammertown.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
In Hammertown, I don't think. I think you'd get kicked out right away.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Not that I have any guns to bring, but I just thought.
Zach Klapman
I mean, I'm sure playing in their toolbox where they're concealed. Carried, you know, just in case antifa shows up or something. Yeah.
Matt Farah
Okay. Cool. Cool. That leaves. That ends my. Ends my list of my list of things.
Zach Klapman
All right.
Matt Farah
I can't wait to have impressions of the Enios after driving. We also have. We're pretty stacked up, actually. We actually have the Explorer S ST coming, which someone's like, hey, did you. Did you know that the Explorer ST is rear wheel drive architecture now and has a selectable diff that allows you to put in rear wheel drive and drift it. I was like, I did not know that.
Zach Klapman
Where can we drift a Ford Explorer?
Matt Farah
I don't know, but we can find somewhere. And it's coming on Wednesday.
Zach Klapman
Should we go to Willow Springs or something? I don't know.
Matt Farah
No, I don't think so. Not yet, but maybe.
Zach Klapman
That'd be wild.
Matt Farah
Yeah, we could. We could figure it out. Okay, but. And then we have that Rivian. So we got some. And then I think we have the AMG GT 63, the E performance, the PL. The hybrid GT, which is supposed to be rad, actually.
Zach Klapman
It'll be fast.
Matt Farah
It'll be fast.
Zach Klapman
But I mean, the other. The red one we had was.
Matt Farah
Yeah, it was great.
Zach Klapman
I didn't really want for anything on that, so.
Matt Farah
Yeah. But I've just. I've heard nice things anyway.
Zach Klapman
All right.
Matt Farah
Could still be good, even if it's not the one that.
Zach Klapman
That's true.
Matt Farah
Point that we want.
Zach Klapman
I mean, chocolate, by the way, because I didn't have caffeine today because I had the doctor appointment.
Matt Farah
Oh. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
I had to fast until one, and.
Matt Farah
Then you fasted for an afternoon doctor's appointment. That sucks.
Zach Klapman
That was bad planning on my part. They're like, you made that choice.
Matt Farah
Zach. Is this what it's like to be healthy? Instead of unhealthy. I know to make a doctor's appointment at 8:30am I'm new to this. And then have, and then have some eggs right afterwards.
Zach Klapman
Not plan. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Matt Farah
That shit fucked me up because remember I used to be super afraid of needles and I'd have, I'd have like no nutrients and like fucking faint.
Zach Klapman
Oh yeah, bother me as long as I don't have to watch them do it. Now that's kind of the most they miss the worst. If they miss a lot for a while, then I'll puke.
Matt Farah
But. Well, that goes back to my childhood. I first got an IV when I was like 10 for something. Forget what it was, but it took him like nine tries and I was, I was scarred after that. Stabbed up. Not about it.
Zach Klapman
The bummer is if I've eaten. Like I have a lot of veins right now. Like I'm doing pretty good because of climbing and stuff. Yeah, easy. I'm easy mode for them.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
When they tell me to fast, my veins shrink. I'm like, well now you just made it harder for yourself. Yeah, they're like your blood sugar, your blood pressure is really low. I go, yeah, I haven't eaten since 10pm last night.
Matt Farah
Yeah, you got it. You gotta. Yeah, you gotta go. The 8am Move.
Zach Klapman
I'm learning it.
Matt Farah
Be there at open.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, wait in there.
Matt Farah
I've been, I've been, I've been there. Cuz you know, I'm like terminally early.
Zach Klapman
To everything, so I was there 6am Anyway.
Matt Farah
Yeah, so I'm there. I'm there when the nurse shows up to unlock the door.
Zach Klapman
Here's outside the doctor's house when he gets up. Like I'm. Can I be here? Can we just do it real quick?
Matt Farah
I'll just. In the carpool lane, you know, I'll help get you there.
Zach Klapman
I'll just ride with you.
Matt Farah
I'll. I'll drive. Shoot me up. Let's go. Yeah, let's go to the Patreon. You guys are the best Patreon. We had a new, A new Patreon record last month. So. Welcome, welcome new patrons.
Zach Klapman
Merry Christmas.
Matt Farah
Merry Christmas and thank you, renewals. We like you, we like you for staying and we appreciate that you're here and as such, you get to do all kinds of things such as ask questions, watch the live stream, get the show early, get an ad, free listening experience, and a whole lot more. These, these tactile turn pens, there are still a couple of them left. They were designated for the Patreon Patreon, but a few were released to the public as well. And you can still get them using the link I put in the Patreon page. So let's see. Ooh, good username. I'm trying to figure out out if my reading glasses are good or bad for the TV monitor.
Zach Klapman
Well, depends on the distance.
Matt Farah
I actually think it's better to not have them for the TV monitor. Nice cams says I've got a 2021 Camaro SS1 LE. I've been tracking it bone stock for two years. Is there a better track car for the money in the world? I can't think of one. Well, in the world better is objective. How long does it have to last? Do you want to go faster? You could get a C6Z06 that will beat you around a track and that might be less money or it might be close.
Zach Klapman
I mean you could also like get a Miata Expendable, right? Miata Honda. Your Expendables could be a lot lower if you want to. But I will say the Camaro SS1 LE is such a great overall car. It is so good at being a daily driven. Also track car under $100,000 or $80,000. It's fantastic.
Matt Farah
I agree. If I want to be pedantic, is there a better track car for the money? For what it costs to buy a 2021 Camaro One LE, you could buy like a race car. Like a pretty good race car. You could buy any number of different, different actual race cars. And so if you actually are talking about pure track car, then you could do that.
Zach Klapman
That's true.
Matt Farah
Right? You can buy open wheel cars. You could buy like a fucking NASCAR basically, if that's the thing you want. But I presume that is not the question. Okay. Way, way Bad's rad has a lot of fucking words. But the beat, the meat of it is what car can you get into from your high school or college days that would be legitimately awesome. I would get a 2000 or 2001 Honda Civic Si. That would be a superb automobile.
Zach Klapman
So expensive now that's the problem.
Matt Farah
So there's so few left.
Zach Klapman
10 grand. Amazing when they're 40, 50.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Rather a Camaro that says one elite.
Matt Farah
Yeah, that's a that. But. But very nice little cars. Some of the Volvos of that period were really, really cool.
Zach Klapman
Integra Type Rs are amazing.
Matt Farah
Yes, Integra Type Rs.
Zach Klapman
Fantastic.
Matt Farah
There is a car of that period that I'm on the hunt for, but I'm not Going to say what it is.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
Because I'm not gonna fuck myself like that.
Zach Klapman
First gen R8. I'll keep saying steering is just fine, but everything else about that car I think is fantastic.
Matt Farah
Yeah, they're good. Darian says my M340i lease is coming to an end and I'm looking to downgrade but want something fun. I need all wheel drive and an automatic 35k and under. What should I consider? I mean, at Crosstrek.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Well, how much are Crosstrek? Are they under 35k new?
Zach Klapman
Yes, they are. I think they're cheaper than.
Matt Farah
Yeah, that's. That's your. That's your move.
Zach Klapman
That is a great car. You won't be. It won't be nearly as fast or exciting as your M340i unfortunately. Yeah, that's tough. Grand Kia Stinger. They still leak.
Matt Farah
Do they still make those?
Zach Klapman
They call it K5 now.
Matt Farah
Can you get a. Can you get a Mini Countryman for that?
Zach Klapman
Cheap.
Matt Farah
For that money.
Zach Klapman
Let me see. That's a. That's a pretty good car.
Matt Farah
They are nice.
Zach Klapman
What a three used Countryman starts at 39 or the one they tested on car drivers. 39. So that's really close. And then that's a fun car and kind of a little bit exciting and interesting.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
All wheel M340 for 35 grand. Grand. That's amazing.
Matt Farah
I mean you. An A3 lightly used would. Would do it. You can get an F pace used for way under that. That would drive very nice. Okay. Gabe says I switched from OE run flat tires to conventional tires on my Lexus LC 502. Questions. Should I run the same pressures in general? I think you should run the recommended pressures on the door whether you're running run flats or not.
Zach Klapman
I believe that's correct. I would search tire act for more information. But from what I remember, like the door, the door shows the tire pressure is based on the car's weight and whatnot. The tires can fit on a bunch of different cars. So I would.
Matt Farah
I would start with the same pressure and look at how they wear for the first few hundred miles. And if they wear unevenly somehow or too much in the center or too much in the outside, then you can adjust. But I would certainly start in the center. But number two, he says, do all run flat tires suck this bad? I think run flat tires do suck that bad most of the time. I don't like run flat tires.
Zach Klapman
No. I prefer regular tires all the time. They're always quiet. Always. But this person, it Sounds like they're having, I mean constantly bulging sidewalls, bad tread wear. If you're having weird tread wear. Also get your alignment checked. Yeah, like definitely check that because that's usually a sign of that.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Max Lyle says if you woke up with no vehicles but the value of your current garages back into your bank account, would you go out and buy the same garage or would there be differences?
Zach Klapman
I think I'd probably. If all of a sudden my car was gone and I guess I had. Am I getting the money I paid for it or the money I might be able to get for it today?
Matt Farah
I think you have to do today's value.
Zach Klapman
Great, that's helpful. I would probably get. Oh, can I get a man? Options aren't great. I might have to get a Camaro SS1 LE. I'd have like 25,000 bucks. So my options for daily driven fast car are pretty slim. It's. Or maybe like a used Mustang Track Pack 2 or something.
Matt Farah
You wouldn't, you wouldn't be happy with that at all.
Zach Klapman
That's, that's hard.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
I'd get you know, a one, a two year old GR86 probably you wouldn't buy.
Matt Farah
One of the options by the way is buy back the same car.
Zach Klapman
I was trying to switch it up though.
Matt Farah
Okay. Like so you're saying, saying that you, you don't have to, you know, you don't have to do that or.
Zach Klapman
I go to a friend of mine, bought an E90 in Texas for $16,000 really clean. So I'd probably try to find one of those. That's what I would do. I'd switch to a E90.
Matt Farah
16,000 bucks for an E90 is not bad.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, brave too. But I would, I would go a.
Matt Farah
Little more expensive and probably need 12 GS and stuff.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, that was pretty good.
Matt Farah
I, I mean I probably. I'm very happy with the state of my garage right now. I don't.
Zach Klapman
Wait, let's go crazy. Let's Cuz your garage, if you combine everything including Countach once it's a.
Matt Farah
You going to make me add it all up like live right now? No.
Zach Klapman
Okay. I just, I wanted to see if you like dream.
Matt Farah
I did say. Do you remember when we had the Gunther works turbo and I said if I could I would switch everything to just this right now.
Zach Klapman
That versus roof.
Matt Farah
Oh, versus the ctr. Oh, very tough. Very, very tough. The CTR to own might be like a little too subtle for me. I might. If I was going to spend that much money, I Might want something a little more ridiculous. It's not to take anything away from what that car is.
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
But like what, you know, it's stealth.
Zach Klapman
The gunther is more ridiculous. The gunther is what you get when the roof meets the Countach.
Matt Farah
Yeah, that's.
Zach Klapman
That's what that is.
Matt Farah
Yeah. I'm about that level of crazy.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
So I would, I would, if I did anything at all, it would be to trade everything for that one car. Car. Billy. Jimmy Zox. What would you rather not Todd Hill 911K or a comparable one with a big power turbo?
Zach Klapman
11K.
Matt Farah
11K all day. Yeah. 11K engineered Nissan Leafs are leasing for 50 bucks a month in Colorado. Wow. What's the most fun a group of friends could have with a bunch of practically free Leafs spec Leaf ice racing? That would be very good.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, that's pretty cool.
Matt Farah
You could see who could kill their battery for the first. Like, remember I tried to do that with. I think it was a. Was it a Ferretti challenge gone wrong? We tried to run out of gas first.
Zach Klapman
That's a good challenge for the Leaf. How. Who can run out of electricity first? Yeah, because someone's going to load theirs with concrete. No, no, I think I pitched it.
Matt Farah
The car show and they didn't do it.
Zach Klapman
Oh, you did.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Zach Klapman
We were like, and we're gonna use a Ford gt.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
We're trying to get worse miles per gallon. Yeah, yeah, we did. We wrote that out. And it was like all these different cars and then eventually I think it was going to be like a 4 GT towing other cars. Was towing a Prius. It was something crazy like a V8 car towing a Prius at Willow Springs. That was the idea.
Matt Farah
Yeah. A whole fleet of cars.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. Who can.
Matt Farah
I would, I would do a. I'd string them out across the country and right when one dies, another one would be there and I'd relay race and I would relay race them all the way across the country. Cannonball.
Zach Klapman
How many do you need?
Matt Farah
You could.
Zach Klapman
That's a great idea.
Matt Farah
Well, it's 2800 miles, so you'd need like 15 of them.
Zach Klapman
Well, someone because Kyle Connor, I guess just ran like a Cannonball record in a Panama Taycan.
Matt Farah
A Taycan.
Zach Klapman
Right under 40 hours, which is very fast, even in a gas car.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
So a Leaf now has a 150 to 215 mile battery only range. Let's just say it's 150.
Matt Farah
Oh, so 150. Oh, so you need. I mean, 20 of them. Yeah, basically. But if you did that maybe 19.
Zach Klapman
Would it be faster to exit and change cars and get in a new one than ever stop and charge one single car? That's a funny game.
Matt Farah
The total time stopped would be less than possible.
Zach Klapman
Would it? It might be, yeah. I mean, if you can have time, have them set up on. On ramp. Off ramps.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Zach Klapman
You exit, you change cars in 20 seconds.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And you do that 20 times.
Matt Farah
Driver change at the same time.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. That's what you guys should do.
Matt Farah
I think that's against Cannonball rules.
Zach Klapman
Oh. You have to finish in the car that you.
Matt Farah
I think that is like, pretty much one of the only rules.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, let's do it anyway, because in.
Matt Farah
In one of the Cannonball runs, the Smothers Brothers have another. Of course, it's a Bentley. They have a second Bentley in the finishing city. And so they just like fuck off and go to Vegas for like a day and then fly on a jet to get the other Bentley and drive to the finish line. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Not a bad idea.
Matt Farah
No, but like, been thought of, right? Yeah. Ansel Levesque is going to Monterey Car week for the first time. Anything that's a must see. And is the $500 ticket for pebble beach really worth it? Well, you must see the Tour, which is very easy because it's free. Just post up on Route 1, south of Monterey, Big Sur. It'll come to you. You, the ra. The races are great, but also just like being around and seeing all the cars just driving all over quail is insanely expensive. I couldn't. I would not tell you that. It's worth like $2,500 or whatever that is. 500 for the concours.
Zach Klapman
Probably worth it once, I think, once. Especially if you're coming from out of town.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
I mean, it sounds like you're going for the first time in the summer. Do the whole thing. And of course, this is an economic question as well, like, can you afford it? So if you. If you're like, ooh, I can, but do I really want to do it once?
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Because then you get to see everything. But. But like you said, so many of the things there are free. The tour is amazing, and it's free. And you can go to the end of it and then kind of leapfrog with it. You can drive in it just by. You can pull out into traffic. You're part of the tour.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And then you can stop in a new place and, you know, shoot pictures from a different turnout. Do that and do the vintage races and then just walk Around Carmel. There's. Last time there was like literally a Ferrari club had rented two blocks of Carmel to have their own Ferrari car show.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And you could just be going to get coffee.
Matt Farah
Oh, I was there. I was there this year. Yeah. And the, and the, what's it called?
Zach Klapman
Baja.
Matt Farah
Huh?
Zach Klapman
Baja Cantina.
Matt Farah
Oh, yeah, well, no, that. But also the auction houses, they have like previews and you can buy like a spectator ticket to get into the previews for the auctions for like $25 or something. So there's that too. Downtown Monterey is fun. Yeah. Paul says are used macans a good buy in the mid-20s, a 2017 Jeep GTS sold in no reserve cars and bids for 25,500 with 83,000 miles dynamically, like. Yes. Like that's a really nice driving car in general. They're like really well made. They look good. They're really nice. I have no idea what the maintenance costs are.
Zach Klapman
Me neither.
Matt Farah
None. So I can't really say it's a good buy at that price if it immediately needs $7,000 worth of stuff, which, who knows.
Zach Klapman
Or if that one sold 83,000 miles. Do they have a big service at 100 that costs whatever. You know, that might be a thing you have to be concerned about. So that's hard. It's a good value. Unless the maintenance gets out of control.
Matt Farah
Yeah, Yeah. I really don't know what that looks like, but it seems like, you know, what's weird is like I don't really know who the customer is for these like six year old sort of fast crossovers, you know, especially European ones. Like that's a tough sell to a lot of people. Cause they're not, not dynamically like enthusiastic enough. Where you're gonna put up with maintenance like a 911 or something. And they're not brand new, but they're still like on the sort of current generation of cars across the board. But they just be so expensive to maintain when something goes wrong.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, that's a good question. It's like what would a Golf R be without the enthusiast support?
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
You know, that's kind of what the Macan is.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
I don't know. And they made, they sold so many of them.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Chris N. With a funny M5 weight comparison. And we're doing our CT5 Blackwing video very soon. And I do mention this a bunch in the video. The weight difference is £1,250 between the new M5 and the Blackwing. And that is correct. The additional weight that the M5 has to lug around is equivalent to the original smart car. The combined weight of 20 golden retrievers, two adult male gorillas, a fully stocked vending machine, and your mother, and your mother, and your mother.
Zach Klapman
Oh, burn. It's around the house.
Matt Farah
When I read the weight of the Blackwing, I was like, 4,100 five years ago. Was like, oh, my God, it's so expensive now. That's like, ooh, svelte.
Zach Klapman
Truly relative. When I drove that Audi RS6 wagon.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And I looked at the weight, I went, not bad. Yeah, not bad for a five door with all wheel drive and twin turbos.
Matt Farah
Yeah. The CT5 is delightful. Joey Bagadonuts says, okay, wait. If you could create the perfect car dealership experience, what would it have and not have? I went, I just test drove a new wrangler and they let us take it home for the weekend. Which is different from what we're used to. But the salesman tactics and normal hangar haggling, etcetera, were not fun to deal with. By the. By the way, we did not buy the wrangler from them. But it was cool to test drive it for more than just 10 minutes. I agree. That is cool. Perfect dealership experience.
Zach Klapman
I think a two day test drive would be amazing.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
I think if they showed you. If you could compare trim levels right there and they just let you, like. One thing they did with Toyota when we went to the RAV4 to buy the RAV4 is they just. The guy was so bored because he knows these things sell themselves. He literally was like, go sit in that one. Enjoy. He left for 20 minutes. We didn't talk to him. He didn't say shit. He was like, here's the key. Just fuck around. So we futzed around and it was a very hands off experience. But that's because the car sells themselves. I think that was nice. And having multiple trim levels to look at would be good. And then ideally they would say, here's the price we pay to buy it from the manufacturer and here's the price afterwards. And the difference would be $10. You know, it would just be manufacturer cost. Yeah, that'd be great.
Matt Farah
No one else makes any money.
Zach Klapman
No one's allowed to make it up on volume, man. Like. Like Southwest.
Matt Farah
I just got to sell 200,000 of these RAV4.
Zach Klapman
They do they sell like 400,000 a year.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah. I mean, the best thing about the best service dealers that I've had are the Lexus dealers that we've dealt with with the myriad of RX3 hundreds and stuff that my mom has had. Like Lexus of Greenwich was like, they were open from 7am to like 8pm or 9pm you could get your car like late after work, after you'd taken the train home from the city or whatever. Just really communicative. Always had loaners if you needed them. It was just generally a pleasant experience. The problem with the haggling sucks. I mean, companies have tried to get rid of it. I mean, Tesla doesn't quote haggle, but they also just change their prices, like all the fucking time. Whereas at manufacturer level they don't do that. But it's the same. It's six of one, half dozen the other. It's like, who do you want fucking pulling the wool?
Zach Klapman
I think getting rid of the BS charges because like one of the thing we caught, one of the Toyota's doing is they're like, oh, you can get this door protection, $3,000. And I said, and I looked at the photo and I went, is that PPF just on the lower third of all the doors? And he goes, yeah. And I went, that's $3,000. He goes, we can take it off. I'm like, that stuff's annoying. Yeah, yeah, because you can PP half a whole car for that in the aftermarket, right?
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
So stuff like that or like, I don't know, the undercoating was the old joke. But I think there's just dealerships need to make money. They have staff to support. Da, da, da, da. But then when the dealer network owner has two planes like G5s, you're like, all right, maybe stop selling us on some of this shit.
Matt Farah
Yeah, they all need to be like the Arizona iced tea guy, where he's like, I'm rich enough, I'm not raising the prices anymore.
Zach Klapman
There you go.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Jake Shores says, do you think the addiction to modding and more power becomes less desirable due to age and experience with modding cars over time or what other factors? Wait, well, I mean, okay, Jake's, I think is maybe making an assumption here that may or may not be true. The addiction to modding and more power become less desirable due to age and experience with modding cars over time, or what factors have led you to just want something to get in and drive. So, like, what he's saying is like reliability versus power or ease of whatever.
Zach Klapman
I mean, I think, I think the misstep is that we haven't really modified our cars ever to the point where they were unreliable.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
People that do that.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And okay, maybe the assumption Is that they're usually in their 20s, where you put power and exploration of parts over anything else. And then when you get older, you go, yeah, I just want something that works. Yeah, but I don't think we've ever really done that.
Matt Farah
I don't think I really have. I mean, I've done like old school hot roddy stuff like cams and exhaust and heads and things like that. But I've never like put a bunch of boost on a car like I guess the Focus rs. But like even that was like a stock turbo, that was just like intercooler stuff.
Zach Klapman
Well, it's like Scotto was telling that story a few weeks ago that when Batim had Scotto's RWB car, he goes, would you want to order the motec or do I? And Scott was like, I don't want a motec. I don't want to start with a laptop. I want this to just be a streetable normal car. That's an example of things can go too far. All in the quest of horsepower.
Matt Farah
Yeah. And the kind of cars we modded in high school to try to achieve the kind of power that like regular ass cars have today. Like regular cars.
Zach Klapman
So true.
Matt Farah
Like my dumb electric Mustang toaster has more power and torque than the Mustang I took to the drag strip in high school that had a hand built engine like I there. It's part of it is getting older and just wanting something that works. But other part of it is the quote, regular cars now go the speed I wanted to go in high school.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. And adding power and speed to some of the regular cars puts them into a level that's not actually more enjoyable unless you're in very specific circumstances. Like if you have an RS3. Awesome, great vehicle. Fast as hell. Right. Sure, you can modify them to 700, 800 horsepower, but when do you really, really get to enjoy that? Unless you. You're willing to do it on the highway, which you shouldn't. Like you have to go to a strip, you have to go to a Runway race or event. And so you have all of this power that doesn't actually really benefit your daily life.
Matt Farah
Right.
Zach Klapman
Or even your weekend canyon life.
Matt Farah
And also like Zach and I live in a big city. It's a sprawled city, but it's a big city. So. Excuse me. Yes, we have our mountains, but we're not going to the mountains all the time. It's pretty far. And so like, like there's the desire to have a car that you enjoy that you drive every day. Like just in your life. Like, I have a bunch of like nice weird fun cars, but right now I'm actually like craving like a regular ass car kind of a lot just because like there's times I don't want to have to think about that kind of stuff, you know, let's see. Myron says 15k off of sticker on a Dodge Hornet RT. Should I replace my wife's 3 year old Outback, her fifth Outback with a new Dodge Hornet RT? Is that a bad idea or a horrible one? Man, if you're, if you've got an Outback person, stick with. I wouldn't. The kind of change that I want to throw into that equation does not start with Dodge Hornet rt.
Zach Klapman
I've never, I have not driven the Dodge Hornet rt. But I mean, she probably likes Outbacks, you know, and we, I like the Outback. We drove the new one a year ago.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Road nice, soft, like kind of big. Honestly.
Matt Farah
It's big.
Zach Klapman
Gotten humongous. But it does all of its things well except for the multimedia screen icons kind of suck. But I don't, I don't know. I'd have to drive. I'd have to drive the Hornet to comment, but that's a big change.
Matt Farah
Yeah, man. I would not. If you brought someone who loves Outbacks, a Hornet rt, something tells me they would not be happy with that. I'd rather have the three year old Outback, honestly. Okay. Nissan Pony Boy 2000 Nismo Edition. My understanding of EVs is that the driver trains are less quote, connected to the car body than an internal combustion car. That is the things can be isolated like a skateboard. Could there be a resurgence of coach building similar to the 20s and 30s? And since all EVs drive the same, would this be a way to add some excitement? I mean we do have coach building like in the 20s and 30s. It's just done in very small volumes by companies like Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Bentley, McLaren. They're super, super rich people that are getting the.
Zach Klapman
Well, they're probably talking about going beyond that. Right. Because people used to buy a Bentley and then give it to a coach builder.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Who would then do even more to it. Or Cadillac. Buy something. Something.
Matt Farah
Yeah, but. But like not in the volume that Bentley sells cars today.
Zach Klapman
No, definitely true.
Matt Farah
There's like, you know, there was like a hundred of them, you know.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, I think, I think it'd be hard to make that business case because I think the people that could afford that operate at a level where resale is in their brain a little Bit it's not that they don't have. Some of them don't to worry about it, but they still do. And so if you look at like Pin and Freena when they do a special edition or who's the one that does stuff for Aston Martin all the time?
Matt Farah
Oh, Zagato.
Zach Klapman
Zagato. Like people can pay the money, they get something that looks individual.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
A lot of the complicated parts, engines and things are figured out by the factory. But then when they go to sell it, they can go. This is one of one by a brand people know.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And I think that that still means a lot to people.
Matt Farah
It definitely does. And with EV, I mean with EVs the reason. Imagine the resale of a coach built EV. I don't know about that. I couldn't say definitively that it would make Coach building easier to start with an ev, but I think it's still specific enough. Like. Yeah, I mean, I guess if Zagato or Bertone or Pin and Farina did a run of cars which you sort of see happening. Right. The Pin and Farina, Batista and the. And the Nevera are the same car.
Zach Klapman
Right.
Matt Farah
So different sort of hat. But will we ever see that in true mass market? Not sure. Don't really know. Below average nerd turkey preference. Smoked, deep fried or baked and favorite Thanksgiving recipe. Do you want to share? I love a smoked turkey. I love smoking a turkey. I like doing. I love eating it one day a year. I love a smoked turkey.
Zach Klapman
And then I.
Matt Farah
For this year we did when I had Thanksgiving at my house in 2022, but in this one we did not. It was a. It was an oven turkey. It was pretty delicious actually. It was not bad. We had a good. We had a good meal. This one basic, very traditional. Hannah's family likes a traditional. When I had Thanksgiving in my house, I veered from the norm outside of traditional to this family is like basically like what a. What a 1980s Thanksgiving would look like. Whereas I put a little spin on that. Like pretty mild, honestly. Like I fuck. I fuck with latkes. My Thanksgiving is a Jewish Thanksgiving, so I fuck with latkes, which are amazing. Everyone loves a latke. And even if you don't think you love a latke, you love a McDonald's hash brown. And it's basically that.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, my cousin does everything. Bagel stuffing and it has replaced other stuff. Yeah, amazing.
Matt Farah
That's probably excellent. I also new one coming in hot, crispy. You know the crispy rice spicy tuna that you get at a Sushi restaurant. Throw a little juice spin in there. Crispy rice, spicy tuna salad. This is, I made this and it's, it's a tuna salad, but made as if it was spicy tuna.
Zach Klapman
So you put it on top of.
Matt Farah
Crispy rice, you put it on top of a crispy rice. But instead of using like a raw sushi tuna, you use like canned tuna.
Zach Klapman
With mayonnaise and stuff with.
Matt Farah
You do mayo, you do miso, you do soy, you do a little mirin, a little rice vinegar, and you fucking get that going and. Oh, and some chili crisp. And you basically make a tuna salad that's like spicy tuna fire.
Zach Klapman
It's good.
Matt Farah
Yes.
Zach Klapman
Okay. Interesting.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah. Very nice.
Zach Klapman
I keep trying to convince my, my aunt's in charge of the turkey and I keep trying to convince her to just bake it breast down because the turkey breast is so dry.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
It just goes gravity. And she looks at me like I'm out of my mind. So when she dies, that will be the evolution that will happen. But for now it's. Yeah, I don't know. Turkey's fine.
Matt Farah
The challenge of this particular Thanksgiving was at my sister in law's house in Savannah. Beautiful little house. House. Really cute cottage on this island outside of Savannah. One oven. So we had, we had the Airbnb house around the corner. Sort of like your setup right in Palm Springs. So we had, we had one oven, but our Airbnb was shitty, so we had a bad oven.
Zach Klapman
Oh, I've done that.
Matt Farah
Really tiny kitchen. So very challenging to work in this type of environment.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
In really crappy appliance environment. Environment. Hannah learned what wide angle photography was because when she got to the house and she's like, when I got to the house, I was like, how is it? She's like, look at the listing and look at this house. And it was like super fisheye. But then straightened up. You know, they unfish eyed it to make it look. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
High contrast color.
Matt Farah
And like on a big screen you could tell the difference, but on a phone, it, it's, it was too close.
Zach Klapman
When we look for apartments and we were finding like the listing would say bright apartment and she'd click on the photo. I go, that's bullshit. They just open exposure next because you. All of a sudden the texture on the tile was gone. I was like, this is horseshit. That's not bright.
Matt Farah
Yeah, just crank the brightness.
Zach Klapman
I could tell immediately the lawn was like neon green. I went, where?
Matt Farah
Nope, you put it down to normal and you realize there's like a turd stuck to the wall.
Zach Klapman
One window in the whole thing. It's like a jail cell. Yeah. It was b.
Matt Farah
That's so good.
Zach Klapman
My mom learned what wide angle photography is, sadly, because the group. One of the group shots in our wedding photos, she's at one end. And, like, the fisheye, like, iPhones do this. The things at the end of. At the edge of frame are stretched.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
So she looks twice as wide as she is. So does Sarah's stepdad. And she's. And my mom is just so critical all the time. She caught it.
Matt Farah
And she does look weird.
Zach Klapman
Like, I was like, oh, I wish they backed up Tim. More feet. We can't fix this.
Matt Farah
I had to do a selfie with Hannah's entire family. So, like, my head is, like, huge. Awful. They're like, matt, you do this. You do this all the time. I'm like, yeah. Act like you're a car.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. Bunched together.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Christian says, why is the GT3 touring slower to 60 than the wing car? I don't think there's any difference at all. There's no difference between the cars. Is he talking about 992.2? And if so, I have no idea. I'm driving it in January, and maybe I can tell you then. But if you're talking about the outgoing car, if two different, like, magazines tested it, maybe it was delivered on different tires because, like, you could get them on, like, sort of regular tires or you get them on, like, cups. So I. Yeah, it should be exactly.
Zach Klapman
The say, also, in Germany, they do 0 to 62.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
And that, like, I wrote to Frank because there was a discrepancy between two different press releases. And he was like, there's not a discrepancy. You're looking at German. You're looking at one is German, one's US and one's to 62. And one's a 60.
Matt Farah
Yeah. So 100K.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Stacy's mom is my mom. So your sister is Stacy, or you're Stacy? That is the question.
Zach Klapman
They answered this, and I deleted it just for space. But now.
Matt Farah
Oh. Anyway. What.
Zach Klapman
What modern Stacy, I think what modern.
Matt Farah
Car that is only offered as an automatic would you choose to get as a manual if the car gods were to grant you that one wish? Ooh, the Nissan, the Z Nismo would be great as a manual. I really wish that that one came as a manual. That'd be a lot of fun. I'd like a McLaren Artura in manual. That would be pretty exceptional. Zach.
Zach Klapman
I'm thinking I'm thinking how modern can.
Matt Farah
We go like whatever brand new 911.
Zach Klapman
Turbo S type R. That was an.
Matt Farah
Oh no, not offering manual.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, I'll do that. Not.
Matt Farah
That would be a good one.
Zach Klapman
Or a new M3 Comp X drive. I mean it's fun, but be more fun.
Matt Farah
I agree. Tim says thoughts on the Boss 302 Mustang in 2024. That's the Boss 302 from back in 2012. Would it still still feel special today? Does a modern GT match it in performance and handling? I think it would feel special today.
Zach Klapman
It still had hydraulic steering, I think. Yeah, that had great steering. I remember that shifter was awesome. Good seats seem smaller than the new cars. Good seats like sounded nice. Great analog vehicle.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Didn't have to have side pipes. Did not have a side pipe. I don't think. But I think they were very nice cars. I don't see them around very often at all.
Zach Klapman
No.
Matt Farah
I remember the boss 302 Laguna Seca was a very special thing when we had it. That was a really fun car.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. Fantastic view.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
I like everything about it.
Matt Farah
Sloppy toppy 5000. What is the worst? Which is a worse six cylinder sound? The Ferrari F80 or the BMW F80? The Ferrari F80 sounds the same as the 296 which is actually a very pleasant sound. It's just quiet.
Zach Klapman
Mm.
Matt Farah
Right.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, I think it's.
Matt Farah
I think that car sounds nice.
Zach Klapman
It'd be hard to compare the two unless they had an evenly. Their decibels were even.
Matt Farah
Right.
Zach Klapman
But like I think the Ferrari sounds a little better.
Matt Farah
Yeah. I don't. I don't. I think the Ferrari sounds a little better too. And I think the Ferrari sounds a little better than the McLaren Artura also.
Zach Klapman
Yes.
Matt Farah
Although the McLaren is pleasant, it's quieter.
Zach Klapman
I think.
Matt Farah
Think the 911 Turbo is the best six cylinder sound on the market right now. I think.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. Oh, for sure.
Matt Farah
Right.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. It's very unique and actually no thing.
Matt Farah
Oh, maybe not the turbo. The new GTS might sound better than the turbo.
Zach Klapman
Interesting.
Matt Farah
No. What am I talking about? Like the ST is the best six cylinder sound. Why am I saying turbo?
Zach Klapman
Oh, quick clarification. Someone last week they asked if I noticed the turbo lag in the larger turbos on the new 911.
Matt Farah
Oh yeah.
Zach Klapman
And I couldn't find anything. They clarified that because the T uses the Carrera engine. The Carrera 992.2 has larger turbos than the other one. So that was a question. I would have to drive them back to back to notice. Frankly, my complaint was more that the gearing felt tall. They said the gearing is the same, but regardless, the gearing feels tall in the nylon.
Matt Farah
Okay. I drove the Carrera when I was on GTS launch and it felt really nice. It did not feel significantly faster than last year's Carrera, but it was nice to drive. So scroll down, please. Josh says, ooh, I need to spend some money with Delta before the end of the year to keep my status. Now you're speaking my language. Josh, buddy, if I were to fly anywhere and rent a sports car for a two day trip, where would you recommend I travel to and what roads would I drive? Well, what Josh has not told us is where he is from, which is.
Zach Klapman
A problem, and how much he needs to spend.
Matt Farah
Yeah, let's before the end of the year though. Okay, so do we want to go hot or do we want to go cold?
Zach Klapman
I think it's too early to have good snow in most places, so I would go hot.
Matt Farah
Okay, so you could do Vegas, Valley of Fire, Lake Powell, National Parks, Zion, Bryce, that kind of stuff. That would be fantastic.
Zach Klapman
Right?
Matt Farah
You could do Bourbon, Country Smokies, Nashville.
Zach Klapman
Like, fly there, it's warm, drive like, I mean, the road, tarmac is really good. I don't know. Yeah, I don't know how many miles this person needs to add on their Delta car.
Matt Farah
I mean, Josh says anywhere, so. Yeah, Spain, Iceland. There's no sports cars. There's no sports cars, but still a good road trip.
Zach Klapman
But driving f road in Iceland, that's an adventure. Drive in the middle of the island.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah. New Zealand, 100% best road trip ever.
Zach Klapman
Yes, I would do that.
Matt Farah
Yeah, that would be exceptional. All right, wait, throw some Ds on. It says, I wanted some advice on making time to read books. I'm in need of enjoying books instead of endless memes. How do you find time to read as many books as you do? Airplanes. No shit. Lots of fucking airplanes.
Zach Klapman
Do you read every night, though?
Matt Farah
No, no, I don't read books every single day. I probably read books like four days a week. And always when I'm trying traveling, I rip through books on airplanes because what else am I fucking doing?
Zach Klapman
I'm usually editing or something. T Pain put a great video on TikTok the other day, ironically, because he was like, people are out there complaining. They don't have time to do something, to do things. What are you doing right now watching me talk to you? It's like, put this down, go outside.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
So if you, like, use the there's like a screen timer app on iPhone. Just look at how much time you look at screens on your phone and think about how much time you're spending just like endlessly scrolling Instagram.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
You can read a book.
Matt Farah
Yeah. And reading a book. I just got a new book recommended by Scotto that's called Stealing Focus. I think it's called about like why you can't. Why you can't concentrate on like long form content. I'm gonna start reading that one too. Right now. I'm reading Timothy Snyder on freedom. He's like an expert, a historian who studies authoritarianism. It sounds like real good one. Fun.
Zach Klapman
I bought he's very here, which is similarly subject.
Matt Farah
I've read that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a good one. Let's see. Let's do these four and then we'll call the game Bad Gardener. If you were each to replace your cars with cars of twice the budget, what would fill the same roles? Okay. All right. The countach, same role would have to be a Diablo gt because you're talking about a million dollars basically. Diablo gt.
Zach Klapman
That's it. So that's what you would buy for a million dollars. You don't have to stay in Lambert.
Matt Farah
To fill the same role.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Farah
Because I can't get into an F40 or anything like that.
Zach Klapman
Huh.
Matt Farah
I don't want any of that shit. It's got to be stick shift. It's got to be like sort of old school. But Diablo GT is the ultimate of that formula.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
The NSX, twice the budget. I would get an NSX R easy.
Zach Klapman
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Twice the budget on the Porsche 911ST. Twice the budget on the Delica. Can't get anything better.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, that's true. It's a very. Because it's a weird thing. It's a lifted off road minivan.
Matt Farah
Twice the budget. Yeah.
Zach Klapman
You can get a six sports mobile.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Twice the budget on the Aston V12 Vanderbilt 2011 stick shift. That would be exceptional.
Zach Klapman
I think. Twice the budget on the M3 I would get 50 grand. I guess like I'd probably go Cayman S. I said it before. Came in sports car. Now just a BMW. Then I would go really low mileage E90. Twice the budget on the RAV4, I think. Like Defender. Like Defender. Right. That kind of does the same thing. Yeah, that's the dog.
Matt Farah
Car for people.
Zach Klapman
Yes, people. Yeah. Car for dog owner. Yeah.
Matt Farah
Alex Brown. Best way to protect a brand new car, you get it from the dealership and drive it home. What do you do Ammo Reflex. Get it at Westside Collector Car storage here in LA or at ammo.monyc.com ammo reflex. And then regular hand washes. Don't go to like shitty machine washes if you can avoid.
Zach Klapman
And don't go to the touchless watches. I used to do that a lot and Larry went, that's fine with your clear coats. Yeah, he's like the chemical stuff that's in the spray washes is aggressive.
Matt Farah
Yeah, it's, it's tough. But you make the time to hand wash it yourself and, or go to a hand wash and that will be a big one. Siamese sports cat enthusiast. Every high end car you drive seems to be wearing 40k in carbon fiber fiber. I appreciate a weave, but I can't think, I can't help but think that all the ways to inflate the MSRP of your car, the decorative carbon fiber fetish is the dumbest. What options would you skip with your own money on a high end car? I would skip like carbon fiber, like engine compartment. Oh yeah, don't need that. I don't usually like the racing like bucket seats. I usually skip that.
Zach Klapman
That putting leather on too many surfaces, like truly covering the interior, like vents and things. If it's overdone then at a certain point the leather doesn't seem special anymore. Break that up a bit.
Matt Farah
Logos on all kinds of stuff. I don't need the Porsche crest on the headrests and the armrest and the this and the that.
Zach Klapman
Alcantara on things you touch.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Well, 911t related leather on the back of the seat.
Matt Farah
Yeah, you do.
Zach Klapman
Not touching it.
Matt Farah
Don't need that cares.
Zach Klapman
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Farah
Carbon. The carbon fi like with the press cars and I understand they want to show, you know, show off what these options look like in the photos and what you can do, what you can customize. So I get it. Usually the spec is pretty good. But I know people who buy cars and skip all the carbon fiber stuff and they're still rolling the fucking 488 or whatever. It's like no sweat.
Zach Klapman
Totally.
Matt Farah
No. Most people don't really care or notice the difference if you don't get the full carbon package.
Zach Klapman
And I think carbon everywhere was more special when carbon was rare. But now that you can go on ebay and literally buy carbon, like sure, SM7B covers. It just doesn't seem as special. So do they have those?
Matt Farah
They definitely do. Can we get some carbon, fake carbon for our microphones in the studio? I bet they do. Do we have to get it on. What's the new fucking Chinese trash? Yeah. Teemu.
Zach Klapman
They do not have.
Matt Farah
They do not.
Zach Klapman
You know.
Matt Farah
Yo. But someone can wrap them for us. Yeah, we could take them down. Last one and then we get out of here for the day. Cheese Demand says, says thoughts on large watch on a small wrist. Just received my notice Canyon. But have 6.7 inch baby wrists. That is not that big of a watch on a 6.7-inch wrist. It's 41 millimeter. It's not like it's a 45 if you're like huge watch on a small wrist. That can look weird. But 41 millimeter on a 6.7 inch wrist to me. Not that weird. I'm okay with it.
Zach Klapman
I don't know what size my wrist is.
Matt Farah
You don't have never measure the circumference of your wrist?
Zach Klapman
Nope.
Matt Farah
6.7 is only just on the south side of average. Oh, Hannah's Wrist is like five.
Zach Klapman
Okay.
Matt Farah
Yeah. And my wrist is almost eight. You're probably like if I guessed you were probably seven to seven and a quarter. But 6.7 inch is not that small. All right. I think you can pull it off, homie. And thank you for supporting our watch company, Hustle. Our watch Hustle is good. I hope you like the watch. I mean, it's fucking nice ass watch.
Zach Klapman
We will answer the rest of the questions that were left on the next cruise show.
Matt Farah
Yeah, we love you.
Zach Klapman
Top of the list.
Matt Farah
We love you. We just got, you know, places to go. I'm going to Funky dude for dinner.
Zach Klapman
That's right. Edit this and go.
Matt Farah
And yeah, we're back in the game. I'm not traveling anywhere for a little while. And we will have. We will have content for you. Thank you to our patrons for supporting us this year and having such great questions. Thanks to the rest, to y'alls for listening and we'll see you later. Bye.

Release Date: December 3, 2024
Hosts: Matt Farah and Zack Klapman
Matt Farah and Zach Klapman dive into their experiences with the electric Mercedes-Benz G Wagon, sharing in-depth insights about its performance both in urban settings and off-road terrains.
City Driving:
Matt praises the EV G Wagon as a "great city vehicle" with a "smoothness" that doesn't compromise its iconic design. He highlights the maneuverability, visibility, and ease of parking, making it ideal for urban environments.
"[34:09] Matt Farah: I really loved the electric G Wagon. It makes a great city vehicle with excellent visibility and ease of parking."
Off-Road Capabilities:
The hosts recount their off-roading adventure, describing the G Wagon as an "animal" on rough terrains. Matt emphasizes the precision and control offered by the electric powertrain, likening the experience to "walking" due to the immediate torque and silent operation.
"[37:05] Zach Klapman: The torque control with electric cars makes it a lot easier to go off-roading. It feels like walking."
Practical Considerations:
They discuss the vehicle's design choices, such as the unconventional spare tire storage. Matt expresses concern about the lack of a traditional spare tire, which could be problematic during off-road excursions.
"[46:19] Matt Farah: The spare tire holder feels out of place, especially if you're going off-roading. It’s a bit sketchy without a proper spare."
Performance and Efficiency:
While commending its off-road prowess, Matt points out the G Wagon's inefficiency on highways, noting a significant drop in battery percentage during their 45-mile trip.
"[40:27] Matt Farah: It used 35% of its charge in just 45 miles, which isn’t ideal for highway road trips."
Transitioning from electric SUVs, Matt provides his initial thoughts on the INEOS Grenadier, a modern take on the classic Defender.
Design and Functionality:
Matt appreciates the Grenadier's rugged aesthetic and functional design, reminiscent of the old Defender but with modern amenities.
"[49:41] Matt Farah: It definitely has the vibe you want if you're aiming for the old Defender feel without dealing with an old model."
Driving Experience:
The hosts describe the Grenadier's manual processes for locking differentials and engaging high and low ranges, emphasizing its authentic off-road capabilities.
"[58:13] Matt Farah: It’s a fully manual process to engage different settings, which is great for those accustomed to traditional off-roading."
Technical Features:
Matt notes some usability issues, such as small LED indicators that are hard to see in bright sunlight, but overall praises the vehicle's off-road performance.
"[50:23] Zach Klapman: Can you read the buttons and the controls well enough?"
"[50:33] Matt Farah: The red LEDs are hard to see in the sun, but otherwise, the ride quality is exceptional."
Celebrating Matt's birthday, the hosts recount a memorable Cars and Coffee event organized by Matt's wife, Hannah.
Event Highlights:
The surprise gathering featured a fleet of impressive cars, including a Targa 911 from Alex Roy, a customized Mini Cooper from Sergio, and various other unique vehicles. The event turned Matt's driveway into a vibrant car show early in the morning.

Unique Cars Displayed:
The event showcased a variety of cars, including an army green Mini Cooper with both turbocharged and supercharged modifications, adding to the eclectic mix and spirited atmosphere.
"[16:31] Zach Klapman: Sergio brought that crazy Mini Cooper, which looked like a psychotic machine but was actually driven by his son."
The latter part of the episode features a Q&A Session, where Matt and Zach address listener-submitted questions covering a broad range of automotive topics.
Warranties and Maintenance:
Extended Warranties:
Zack discusses the benefits of extended warranties using the example of their general manager, Eric, who maintains his Porsche 997.2 Turbo S manual with an 18-month transferable warranty.
"[10:32] Matt Farah: Eric could sell his 997.2 Turbo S manual for a good price because it still has an extended warranty."
Third-Party Warranties:
Matt advises caution when considering third-party warranties for vehicles like the Chrysler Pacifica, emphasizing the importance of reading fine print and understanding the coverage scope.
"[12:28] Zach Klapman: Third-party warranties might not be the best for long-term ownership of certain models like the Pacifica."
Dealership Experiences:
Matt shares his positive and negative dealership experiences, advocating for more customer-friendly practices such as extended test drives and transparent pricing without haggling.
"[85:15] Matt Farah: I had a dealership let us take a Wrangler home for the weekend, which was a refreshing change from traditional haggling tactics."
Car Modding Trends:
The hosts discuss the evolution of car modding, suggesting that as enthusiasts age, their focus may shift from performance modifications to reliability and daily drivability.
"[88:54] Matt Farah: Modding tends to decrease with age as reliability and ease of use become more important."
Perfect Car Replacement:
