On this episode, Ferdy Porsche is in studio. That's right. As in Porsche. The great grandson of Ferdinand Porsche is joining us. He is also the founder of FAT International, which you've probably seen or read about. It's kind of everywhere now with their ice racing. And now they're talking about a new go karting league for kids that is helping to not necessarily democratize, but meritocratize. I think that's a word. Meritocratize karting to help give young people a pathway into open wheel motorsports. We're talking about that special Porsches and a whole lot more. Ferdy's in studio. It's the Smoking Tire podcast. Let's go. You're like, my name is Portia. I automatically know the material.
Ferdy Porsche
I failed the theory.
Matt Farah
No.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. Like I do. I felt like I do. And then I messed it up on a stupid question about like how old you have to be to sit in the front.
Matt Farah
They put in questions that don't matter. Yeah, that, I mean, that's, that's a lot of. Huh.
Ferdy Porsche
For safety and that's kind of.
Matt Farah
No. In America, there's, they ask you shit that doesn't matter the second you're handed the card. Like there are things that do matters that, such as staying to the right that they don't emphasize nearly further away.
Ferdy Porsche
You get from the driver's license, the less you like.
Matt Farah
We need some retesting in this country for sure. Yeah. But as you've learned from your time in California, like there aren't really laws here. So it's okay.
Ferdy Porsche
That's a good thing.
Matt Farah
Yeah. So it's fun. Sometimes it's, sometimes it's a good time. Sometimes you just need to get a car from point A to point B and it's not registered and what the you going to do?
Ferdy Porsche
You know that all Germans dream of living in the U.S. right? Music. We Grow up with your cinema. We like every German. The U.S. is kind of the benchmark.
Matt Farah
It's kind of funny.
Ferdy Porsche
It's free here. I mean, it's, of course, complete.
Matt Farah
It's complete.
Ferdy Porsche
But, like, we dream of the US as, like this, like the American dream very much lives in our heads.
Matt Farah
Don't worry.
Zach
It lives in a lot of our heads, too.
Ferdy Porsche
We're all hoping to achieve that dream one day.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was going to say, I want to know what's going on. Yeah. Grass is always greener, my friend.
Zach
Our biggest export, I think, is pop culture, entertainment, etc. So it makes sense that you just.
Ferdy Porsche
100%.
Zach
Yeah, I get it.
Ferdy Porsche
Music.
Matt Farah
Michael Jackson was a very powerful character. Pepsi and Coke fucking put a lot of money into this shit.
Ferdy Porsche
Awesome.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, dude, it's nice to meet you. This is now the show. This is it. We're here now. Yeah. Thanks for coming down. Yeah. Required, like, scheduling and everything. We were at the same event all day on Saturday. I didn't even see you fucking once.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, it was big. No, 6,000. 6,000 people.
Matt Farah
I think it was 4,998 people is the correct number of people that were there. Yeah. Trust me. And I thought it went really well, though. We haven't. We haven't done a show since. Since going back. Zach was there as well. We did a show in the morning we met and it was. I thought it was a really, really fun event. Yeah, it's your fun, dude.
Ferdy Porsche
It was great, I think. Yeah, I had a lot of fun. I even got to drive a little bit, which I think not many.
Matt Farah
On track or in cars?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, no, not in carts. The carts is for the kids.
Matt Farah
I drove cars. You did, Yeah, I drove a car. Yeah. Really? Yeah. How? I was going to talk about it. I walked over there. Someone. There was a group text with Ali on it, said, be at the car track at 1. And I went over to the car track at 1 and one of the people on your team said, oh, Matt, get over here. Try one of these. We're doing. We're doing a race. And I went. It was a fucking blast. I had a great time. Me and Graham Smith had a real fucking battle.
Ferdy Porsche
Meg, I didn't.
Matt Farah
Yeah, no, I opened a gap and then I got, like, way aggressive in one of the braking zones and looped it into the gravel and he went by like, that was great. These electric carts are fun. And I want to circle back to karting. Yeah, but it was fun. Yeah, but you drove what, on streets of Willow Yeah. In what?
Ferdy Porsche
No, I drove the Big Willow. The streets is the one that they already like, repaved. Yeah, no, I drove the Big willow in a C4 lightweight. You know the Ice Race livery.
Matt Farah
Yeah, the white one. Right. I saw that car. It's. That's a lovely car.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes.
Matt Farah
And also I was. When I got there, Zach and I got there super early to set up for the podcast and whatever and the. The Fat Corral. Yeah. Was there. And the first thing we noticed was that you were using an Arnage as a merch booth, which is one of the. The best uses of a Bentley Arnouch possible.
Ferdy Porsche
I've never driven one, but they do look really. They do look gangster that.
Matt Farah
I would have thought that.
Zach
Did you drive it up there or back down?
Ferdy Porsche
Oh, we drove it there on a truck, I think.
Matt Farah
No, you. Yeah, you should drive one of them. They're awesome.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, I would. I would love to.
Matt Farah
Yeah, that would be a perfect car.
Ferdy Porsche
They're probably good value, like, right? They're not. They're not expensive these days.
Zach
They are cheap.
Matt Farah
They're cheap and they're expensive. Say that, you know, they're expensive to keep running.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. Okay.
Matt Farah
Which is why. But if you, if you want to use one every day, then they're good. Yeah, you have to use them a lot.
Ferdy Porsche
A great car.
Matt Farah
Our friend Alana Shear, who writes about cars for a lot of people, mainly car and driver, just bought one to use as a daily driver.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, I mean, it's working out okay for here. You sit in traffic so much. It's the perfect. I mean, I drove around the C4 light with the last few days. It's not the perfect car, by the way.
Matt Farah
No, it is.
Ferdy Porsche
Because you're in traffic the whole time. It's loudest.
Zach
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Yeah, you can say. Okay. Yeah, yeah, it's loud.
Ferdy Porsche
As loud as.
Matt Farah
No. Yeah, that's. LA is a two car solution kind of town. You have your traffic car and then you have your fun car. Yeah. In this case, your Porsche. In other people's cases, you see some other things. Yeah, my case Porsche as well. But yeah. Dude, I really. I really thought Willow did. It looks great. The buildings look great, track looks great.
Ferdy Porsche
It's amazing. I mean, the history alone already makes it cool. I think there's so much heritage. Right.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Ken miles built in 1953 and never once updated.
Ferdy Porsche
Also the light makes everything look better over there. And like the desert is also a good backdrop. I think it's a great place.
Matt Farah
But it's really funny, I was telling Sam and These other guys. Cause it was really windy and dusty, which is like, what happens there. I mean, that's what it is. It's like, man, you guys got a lot of money, but you cannot fucking buy the wind away out here.
Ferdy Porsche
I thought the wind was nice, though, because otherwise it would have been way too hot.
Matt Farah
It is nice. Unless you leave the top down for 90 minutes in your 718 Spider and you come back to find just a. It was bad. It was really bad. Zach left his windows cracked.
Zach
I did the window cracked so people could see my new interior. And then I saw the wind kick up and went, oh.
Ferdy Porsche
Everywhere.
Matt Farah
Yeah, you can't beat. You can't beat the elements there, but it looks beautiful.
Ferdy Porsche
That is a nice. That is a very California thing, though, right? Leaving the top down.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Just not minding even putting it up.
Zach
You can wear your part.
Ferdy Porsche
You can never live like that in Germany. Like in Austria, it's raining, like, every second day.
Matt Farah
Yeah. On the 718 Spider RS press launch, I had to take the top up and off and put it back on, I think four times in six hours.
Ferdy Porsche
Where was that?
Matt Farah
In. In the roads that Andy Preuninger likes. Outside of Stuttgart. Yeah. You pro. I. I couldn't tell you what the roads are, but you probably, like, know what they are.
Ferdy Porsche
I have no idea, honestly.
Matt Farah
Really?
Ferdy Porsche
I didn't grow up in Stuttgart. I mean, I am there quite often, but.
Matt Farah
You must have. Yeah. You don't know where. You don't know where the Porsche people drive outside of Stuttgart? It's there. It's whatever that is.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Okay, so. So where did you grow up?
Ferdy Porsche
In Munich.
Matt Farah
Okay. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
My mom's in the movie business, and that's kind of in Munich. And my dad was between Stuttgart and Salzburg, so back and forth.
Matt Farah
Okay. And you're an architect now?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, I studied architecture in Vienna.
Matt Farah
And was that always a dream for you?
Ferdy Porsche
No, I think I kind of wanted to do my. Like, I like having my own thing. Right. Like, I think if you come from my family, it's kind of easy to be, like, sure caught in. In a sense. And, like, I always wanted to do my own. Like, I love studying something that gives you, like, a hard skill and then you can do something. Like, I didn't want to. Like, after school, I was like, okay, now I have, like, all the options. Like, what do I do? Sure. Like, business boring. Like, what do I do after? Right. So architecture was one thing that I was always interested in, and I kind of like the idea of changing a place and making it nicer and like I have, I think every architect has this like feeling of like it would like, let's try to make the world a better place in a sense. Like, you know, it's a very optimistic job until you actually do the job.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach
The engineers show up.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah. The, the, the building a, an integrated space and all that stuff to. Yeah. Do a favor. Like is it homes, is it like big commercial buildings or whatever?
Ferdy Porsche
No, I really like, like I really like saying so it's whatever. So we have, we have a lot of car related projects. I wonder why. And then we did everything from a small bar in Vienna that we just did the interior to like a lung practice with apartments on top to renovating an old castle to. Yeah. So it's all different, all different jobs. And then like obviously like my, my master thesis for example, I redesigned one of these auto grilled bridges in Italy.
Matt Farah
Cool.
Ferdy Porsche
So like always kind of wanted, like always try to kind of merge the.
Zach
Two worlds and rest stop, like it's a huge bridge. You go.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach
Cafeteria thing.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
And you know Germans like we don't like holiday at home so we always go other places and kind of seeing that bridge for the first time always means like you're on holidays because like you've entered Italy and so they have like this kind of romantic, like it's a really romantic thing nowadays. Kitsch maybe even. But I think back in the days it was a very like optimistic era.
Zach
Right.
Ferdy Porsche
It was, the car was like there for the first time and like people would drive the motorway. The motorway was new and like everything was very positive and you would like look over the Italian countryside and like lots of cars driving fast underneath you.
Matt Farah
It's a different, it's like, it's, it's a, it's a not high end but it's like a more relaxed rest area where you're eating.
Ferdy Porsche
And the high end comes from the quality of like the food and stuff.
Matt Farah
Right. But that's just the Italian.
Ferdy Porsche
The espresso is €1 and it's the whole.
Matt Farah
We will never figure that out here, you know. But like, but we also have a certain type of restaurant that doesn't exist there. Yeah, the sort of like bistro, like the sort of like bistro Y type restaurant. Like they have the, those for lack of a better term the gas station restaurants which are actually quite good, which they have sort of, you know, instead of a lot of the McDonald's and shit like that. But then we have restaurants that are like one notch above that that they kind of don't have. And they skip to the next level to like a little more fine dining, traditional.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, I guess probably the Auto Grill is like the only kind of like car focused thing, right? Like car focused restaurant, I would say in Italy, like, because the cities are so dense. Etc. It's probably different here, right? Here you probably drive to every restaurant.
Matt Farah
Unfortunately. Unfortunately you have to.
Ferdy Porsche
The cities are just different, right?
Matt Farah
Yeah, they're set up for. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
But yeah, so I always kind of like, liked sort of skipping from or like jumping back and forth from cars and architecture.
Matt Farah
When you were doing like car projects, the Auto Grill is one. But were you doing like car museum, car storage facility or like man cavey kind of shit?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, we did. Like, just for the fun of it, we did. We designed a version for the Peterson that like how the Peterson could look if it would be redone and like, just for the fun of it. Right. And then we also. There's a collector outside of Vienna who wanted us to design a garage for him where he could keep his cars. Didn't happen so far, but it's gonna happen one day. And yeah. So the Mankai we designed. So you know.
Matt Farah
Oh yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Our. Our coffee stop on the highest mountain in Austria where we like with.
Matt Farah
So. Yeah, that's pretty cool. I mean, that's like when I think of your. Your brand. Fat. Yeah, I wanna, I wanna talk about this because it's really. Because it's. When I first saw it, it was really one of those, like. All right, what are these people actually doing?
Ferdy Porsche
Like, what?
Matt Farah
It's cool, though. It looks cool.
Ferdy Porsche
Fat.
Matt Farah
It's on a bunch of like, merch and cars. But like, you know, like, same as, you know, our friends Jacob and over at race service, you know, like they have a shop but like, what are you guys actually doing here? But then you built this coffee shop on top of the mountain and I was like, oh, that's very pretty. What is going on there? So you're doing architecture, you're dipping your toe in various car projects, and then you decide to maybe get into a little bit of ice racing.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Ferdy Porsche
Ice racing kind of started the whole thing, actually.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Ferdy Porsche
So I was in the middle of uni still and kind of stumbled across this ice race because my dad had bought a car that used to race in the. In the historic ice races. So from the 50s to the 70s in Zelamsee in Austria, they had. They were racing on the frozen lake and they had like 550s and like 356s and all different sorts of cars. It was like 10,000 people there. And it just looked. I never heard about this before, right? So I'd like. Because of that car, I kind of researched and then I thought it's one.
Matt Farah
Of the coolest looking sports. Like photographically it just looks like beautiful.
Ferdy Porsche
And I thought like, there was a real chance to bring this back into our like day and age, right? Everything is very Instagramable in a sense. Maybe I could do my version of like. Like, how do you do in a car event that would attract a younger crowd, maybe people who don't like cars yet, but who would actually like them. Because I always, I was always like studying architecture, but obviously having a car background. Architects aren't the biggest fans of cars, right? Because like, they want the cities to be like freedom, blah, blah. So I think there was always. But there is a, like, there. There are many connections between those things, right? And I think the car is like the perfect conversation starter. It's like engineering, it's design. It's like so many people can see different things in cars that they like. So I always thought, like, it's actually kind of weird that like, not everybody loves cars. You should change that.
Matt Farah
I think people like pretty cars. I think people kind of get it when they, when they see a car, like doing its special if it has one. People get that. Like, I mean, just, you know, my wife as an example, you know, she doesn't really know much about cars or really care about driving dynamics, but if she sees something that's striking, she goes, well, wow, look at that, you know, and she's on Facebook Marketplace, like, can I buy this? And it's like a fucking Daihatsu K truck. I'm like, no, no, no. She's no, I must have this. I'm like, we don't need a mini dump truck, baby. But like. And there are people that really don't get it. But like, how do you look? And we've got a pict of what looks like a 959 or some type of Porsche rally car towing a skier, which. That's the best version of Ice racing is towing the skier.
Ferdy Porsche
That is the best version of it. Yes, that's. No, honestly, I think maybe to your.
Matt Farah

And now back to the show.
Ferdy Porsche
I think like maybe the pretty cars get you into it.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I think like through that you might like learn and appreciate like what cars do for society or what they did for society and maybe how to use them in a more like in a smarter sense sometimes. Right. So I think the K cards for example, are a great example.
Matt Farah
Oh yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Mobility in a smart.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Small.
Matt Farah
Can you believe that? Like there's like local governments in our country that are like trying to make them illegal here. Like specifically make them illegal.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. I mean I think if you do have a crash with that versus.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
But you're not big pickup truck. It's probably not the best thing.
Matt Farah
Yeah. But you're not going to damage something else. You know, if you, you get into a K truck, you know you're going to die in a crash. No one's. Nobody thinks that you're. That's land of personal responsibility kind of stuff.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Surprisingly I've seen more actual personal responsibility type stuff in Germany than I've ever seen in America. I've been to Oktoberfest, that spinny fucking disc thing. That shit would never fly in la, dude.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. Although I was kind of surprised that we like were allowed to do this a cool. Like back in the days they used to do this like as a mass start. So like multiple cars would start at the same time with skiers in the back. We're not allowed to do that anymore. So now it's like a time thing.
Matt Farah
And they do it with horses before that.
Zach
Well, they do that in steamboat with horses.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Zach
Down the Main Street.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I think they do it in Montana also. I mean, speaking of iceways, we're bringing that to Montana next year. Like, they do the skiering with horses in Montana too.
Matt Farah
Well, and it should be part of ice racing, right?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
At the end, maybe once the. Once the cars don't need the ice anymore, like, let the horses have a whack at it.
Ferdy Porsche
I think that I got this in.
Zach
High school and it was a great time. We just towed each other around the snowy parking lot like snowboarding. So fun.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Last race of the. Last race of the event is the 1 horsepower cup.
Ferdy Porsche
I ripped my. Sadly, I ripped my biceps already doing it once, I bet. Yes.
Zach
Oh, you got to do the straight.
Ferdy Porsche
I bet you if it's not like, like if the rope isn't in tension, get that window.
Matt Farah
Yeah. You probably want. Do you maybe is there an optimized situation where there's a bridle that's like almost got a shock absorber in it to sort of reduce that or just like, it's very.
Ferdy Porsche
Like, we do it like the easier way.
Matt Farah
We don't need an engineering source.
Zach
He'll make something.
Matt Farah
But it does look.
Ferdy Porsche
No. So we did like ice race. The whole idea was basically to do an event that is like fun over speed. That's the motto of it. Also, how do you get like a different crowd of people into this? Plus obviously everybody who's already excited about cars and the people who bring the cool shit, but also like the younger generation, like people who don't maybe don't understand it that much yet or have no, like, no way to entry yet, but maybe seek it. Right. Because it is a cool well and.
Matt Farah
It'S been cool with it.
Ferdy Porsche
And it's a very. As I said, like, cars are just a good conversation starter.
Matt Farah
It's like it all. It's also really accessible. Like, you know, if you're standing either like where these people are on the. Up on the berms, you know, it. It looks amazing in these still photos, but in reality it's sideways and fairly slow. And so you've got people that are willing to drift a Miura that might otherwise have been like, absolutely not because it's such a low risk environment, but it ends up looking really cool. People get to hear him, like, revving the snot out of this thing. And so unlike just a concourse or whatever. It's like it's in motion.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
That makes it exciting.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, that's what I. That's another angle that I like. It makes people use their cars and in environments that they would probably usually don't really do that. So it's kind of this, like, absurd festival vibe.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
People getting together and, like, having a good time in the snow ideally, but not.
Matt Farah
I'm. I look, I'm coming this year to Montana. I heard about it. I'm already in that. Where I talked to Philip. We're gonna get spikes for my radial. Manx love it. He has a spot on the truck. I'll have to put the all weather covers on the seats, but, like. And you know. Let's go. Right.
Ferdy Porsche
What are they for?
Matt Farah
All weather covers, Dude. The only thing about my Manx that's like less than perfect is that the seats are not waterproof. I don't wish they were because they're gorgeous. But what are the seats? Leather. They're like the sport buckets. But they put heating elements in them. For me. It's awesome. So it'll be perfect for ice racing.
Ferdy Porsche
That is perfect.
Matt Farah
But they made some, like, nice covers for once. So for when I wash it, they don't get completely wrecked. They do Phil. Philip does. They do a good work over there.
Ferdy Porsche
Manx is a great.
Matt Farah
Manx is the.
Ferdy Porsche
Manx is the.
Matt Farah
Yeah, they're gonna. They're. They're. They're. It's so much fun to drive that.
Ferdy Porsche
It's the best around California vehicle.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Right?
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah. Do. Are you. Do you have one yet or they just. Do they just let you borrow one? You are.
Ferdy Porsche
But he borrows me.
Matt Farah
Okay. Are you gonna put a Porsche motor in yours?
Ferdy Porsche
I don't know yet. Yeah. Hopefully he. He just built one with a four cam. Right?
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
That's pretty cool.
Matt Farah
That was. It was there. It was a willow. That gray.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. It was in the fat pedal.
Matt Farah
Yeah. But that. Dude, that thing is like. It's like half a million bucks for one of those engines. Maybe you could build. You could do just like a hot rod.
Ferdy Porsche
You know, like the electric version. To be honest.
Matt Farah
They're cool. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I think like. Like, it's just a vibe. Okay.
Zach
Obviously, electric bike tires would be. You do wheelies?
Matt Farah
Yeah. That would be fun.
Ferdy Porsche
The Taycan. Speaking of electric, the Taycan is one of the most fun cars for. For ice race.
Matt Farah
Did you go to Finland all the power?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. That's one. Like, that's. That's one reason why I was so fond of ice racing and why I maybe decided to also do this because my dad gave my brother and me a weekend in Finland. Kind of like driving school.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
My brother made his. Did his driving license he was 18, I was 21 and he was like, okay guys, boys, you got to learn how to drive. Let's go to Finland.
Matt Farah
Porsche experience. I went up there. It was unbelievable. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They have so many tracks.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Like, what were you, what did you drive?
Ferdy Porsche
Everything I think from like four wheel drive stuff, so turbo, but also like rear wheel drive everything.
Matt Farah
Did you drive Taycans?
Ferdy Porsche
No, there were no Taycans back then.
Matt Farah
Oh, okay.
Ferdy Porsche
Older than I look.
Matt Farah
All right. They had, they have them up there now. They're supposed to be just unbelievable. Yeah, I got to drive GT4 all.
Ferdy Porsche
The time and like four wheel drive is more like, is arguably more fun in like on the ice. Yeah, you can just be like more sideways.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I drove the GT4RS Club Sport on Spikes and it was the greatest. The part was ace. But now they have, now they have Taycans up there. They have that cool like the, the turbocharger. You've seen the giant like truck thing. No, no, no. They're. They're huge semi truck that they use to charge the things. It can charge 10 Taycans at once. That shit is nuts. Yeah, they built a whole barn around it.
Ferdy Porsche
So coolest thing they had when I was there was a 918. Sick at a 918 on specs. But they wouldn't use that on the small tracks. They used it on the big roads to lead to the track and they didn't let me drive it also.
Matt Farah
Oh, what a bummer.
Ferdy Porsche
But like one of the instructors took us like on a fast run through like basically on all the roads that would lead to the different tracks.
Matt Farah
Like.
Ferdy Porsche
Wow, that was insane.
Zach
918 rally car.
Matt Farah
That's pretty, that's pretty awesome.
Zach
So sick.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What?
Ferdy Porsche
That was nuts.
Matt Farah
What would be your, your all your ultimate. So you like, you like four wheel drive for, for ice? Yeah. Okay. So for you it's your lightweight C4 is just it.
Ferdy Porsche
That's the perfect.
Matt Farah
That's the jam.
Ferdy Porsche
Okay.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Ferdy Porsche
I think that's a perfect. It's loud. It's four wheel drive. You can adjust it so it can, can be a little more real. Right. You know, like.
Matt Farah
Oh, it has the bias. Yeah. So it's.
Ferdy Porsche
That's pretty cool.
Matt Farah
Like is that like out of 959, that piece of tech?
Ferdy Porsche
It's out of 953.
Matt Farah
Oh nine. Yeah, yeah. From before that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Very first.
Matt Farah
That's like the Jackie Ick. Exactly. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I think he also drove 959.
Matt Farah
He did later, but he drove 950.
Ferdy Porsche
953 was the first. The car Porsche.
Matt Farah
The narrow body one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the one I saw in Stuttgart that says original dirt never wash on the wind. It's like filthy. And there's a huge sign on it. Original dirt never wash. Yeah. All right, cool. Got it. Yeah. Okay, so. But why fat other than the word fat? Gotta take one more break, guys, because support is coming in warm from Quince because the weather is cooling. Ferdy Porsche
I mean, the word fat is one reason, right?
Matt Farah
It's a good word.
Ferdy Porsche
You know, it's fun. It's. It kind of encapsulates everything and no. So, jokes aside, we did Ice race twice before COVID so 20, 19 and 20. And as I said, that was more of a yo, it would be so cool if this would be back. Why not do it? So it was more like a why not approach. And then during COVID I obviously figured that I might have a bit like an ice race free year, basically. And I thought there is some, like, potential here, right? Like, there was already kind of a community building around Ice Race. People would go for drives in the summer. The partners were kind of excited about it. I was excited about it because I met so many cool people through it and it was kind of. It was just fun to organize that, right? It was like a big, big, big birthday party. It's not my birthday, but it was just a very, like, nice thing to, like, meet people, etc. So I figured there's some potential there and then I can kind of thought, okay, but like, if I have Ice race only then, like, I can never do something in the summer or it's going to be hard to do other stuff, right? I was kind of like, I always loved clothes and sneakers and like, product in general. So I thought, like, I want to be able to do more things with, like, what I've started there. And so I looked through all the Le Mans winning cars of Porsche because I figured maybe, like Ice Race, I would find something with heritage that doesn't exist anymore that you could kind of like bring back and revive. And it took like two and a half minutes. And I stumbled across, like, you're like.
Matt Farah
Wait, there's a brand called Fat?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, I live like 97 and 95 for fat. International sponsored a Le Mans winning Porsche. And I'm like, what the is FAT International.
Matt Farah
Yeah. And, yeah, a shipping company. Right.
Ferdy Porsche
It used to be a shipping company for fashion from Paris to, like, from France to Germany. So it stands for which I like. Another layer that I really liked. Right. The trucker is kind of the underdog story. Right? The truckers that go and, like, win Le Mans, I think that's also kind of a good. And then it kind of had this, like, street style name, right? Like, this, like, very, like, it kind of encapsulated everything that Ice Race laid out. And it felt like the perfect sort of umbrella brand for what we wanted to do. And now we're kind of building and building around.
Matt Farah
Yeah, it seems to be, like, working. I mean, I actually think you guys are, like, the brand, like, sort of aesthetic is, like, pretty similar, I think, to what Manx is doing. You guys just don't have a car to sell. You know, you. You're. You're on. You're doing. You're doing events and stuff, like, and other products.
Ferdy Porsche
Cars.
Matt Farah
Huh? Do you. You're selling cars now?
Ferdy Porsche
I mean, high fatty portion.
Matt Farah
I mean, no, I thought, you know, I thought you don't work.
Ferdy Porsche
We don't sell car. Like. Yeah, no, Fat doesn't sell cars. Yeah, we build little go karts.
Matt Farah
Well, yes, we can. Yes. Go kart. Go karting is a different story. But, like, you know, it's just the.
Zach
The.
Matt Farah
The aesthetic is similar just in service of different stuff.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, I think similar to, like, like you mentioned Manx. Like, what is their tagline is Smiles for miles. And I mean, it's similar. Right. Like, with Phat, I want to create something that is, like, fun and open to, like, accessible and. And exciting. And, like, I like the whole, like, if you think back to all those, like, old liveries and if you look at old photos of motorsport, everything always is so aesthetically pleasing and nice. And the cars look nice. And that, like, some graphic designer took a lot of, like, made a lot of effort for everything to align well and to look good. So I kind of want to bring that, like, effort back into what we do.
Matt Farah
Yeah. When there's, like, five sponsors, not 50.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes. That probably also made a difference.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
But I think it's also the way it's, like, layouted. Layout. Layouted.
Matt Farah
Laid out.
Ferdy Porsche
Laid out.
Matt Farah
Thank you.
Ferdy Porsche
So there it is.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yes. Original dirt don't wash. So. All right, so how many. We're doing Montana in February. Yeah. And can people enter, buy tickets? What do they look. Is it just Fat Ice Race? Just search for that.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. Search for Fat Ice Race or go to fat-international.com and buy tickets. So it's an open event. It's the second time that we're coming to the US but the first time that it's really like for more people. Right. Like we in theory have almost as much space as in Austria where we do it. So it's like, like probably like 4,000 people. And you can also enter your car. We haven't decided yet who the 50 or 60 lucky people are that, that are driving. And it's a two day event. It's a. Parties in the evening and it's like. Yeah, exactly what we do in, in Austria. But we're going to try to make this the American version of it, so.
Matt Farah
And also Montana skiing. Chilling. Maybe we, maybe we have to road trip it in something as well. Maybe we can bring that.
Ferdy Porsche
Dude, you are like the.
Matt Farah
Maybe we can bring the. You know what a silver car.
Ferdy Porsche
Where's the silver?
Matt Farah
The car that's downstairs. Zach. There's a car?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
That's downstairs?
Zach
Well, there's 35 cars down.
Matt Farah
No, no, but there's one that's for a thing. Never mind. Okay, we have another, another interesting idea. We'll talk about it later. We can't talk about the show. Sorry. Excuse me. Excuse my friend. He's a. It's okay. Somet. I'm a moron too. When you, I mean, look, when you're, when your last name is Porsche, obviously there's like everybody has fucking expectations of you, which there's probably like a lot of pressure. Probably also kind of cool, right? Like when you're like, like when you're 16 and your name is Porsche, is that awesome?
Ferdy Porsche
I feel like it's getting more awesome the older you become and the more like you have found your own thing. Right?
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Then I feel like it's. It's a really cool thing when you're 16, I think like, or the younger you are, I feel like you still want to kind of like fit in and not like. So I felt like in school like I always rather wanted like. Anyways, I went to a public school in, in Germany. So it was always kind of like I always had like friends from all different tribes of life. And it was always like. Yeah, I always just wanted to fit in a sense and be my own character. But of course, like it comes with, with upsides and downsides. The upside is you can drive like really cool cars.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah. That's a solid perk. That is a really good perk. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Especially if you really like the things Also, yeah, so kind of growing up, going to all different car events and like always close to the brand in a sense it's, it's an advantage that, that the product is cool and that you actually can fall in love with it.
Matt Farah
Do you have a relative that you don't have to name or anything, but for whom the name is like a full on curse, like hates cars, just wishes they never had to talk about it ever?
Ferdy Porsche
No, nobo hates cars. I think everybody likes cars. Like everybody kind of sees the, I mean it's also cool. Like it's, you know, it's, it's in a sense it's a family business right now. It's like super big and probably not your typical family business in a sense anymore, but everybody kind of has a nice relation to the brand. I want to say. I think people are in general proud.
Matt Farah
Also of like, sure.
Ferdy Porsche
I don't know what their forefathers have done in a sense. There's stuff to learn from them in a positive, in a negative way. And like, I think it's just a cool, like it's a crazy history also, right?
Matt Farah
Yeah, it is, It's a good history and it's a history that the fans of the brand have done a very good job of keeping alive with their own magazines and movies and television shows and museums and, and whatever. And then Porsche really at kind of the right time in the global car enthusiasm, said, hey, wait a minute, we better start publicly, you know, finding ways to support our own history as being one of, you know, motorsport and aesthetic and color and material and everything.
Ferdy Porsche
Porsche is one of the few luxurious brands, I want to say, even though like it's one of the few brands that a has a luxurious product that is at the same time very accessible. You know, I think that started from like the 912s and people like modifying them and like we won't punish people who like with our cars in a sense.
Matt Farah
Sure.
Ferdy Porsche
Like Ferrari kind of like we'll never sell you. Which is a very like open community driven thing in a sense. Right?
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Instant friends. And they just like love the brand I think, for, for its values.
Matt Farah
Right.
Ferdy Porsche
For building lightweight, smart, I don't know, form follows function for like continuing the same silhouette over like, yeah, 60 years. And like I think like people really buy it. Like there's a huge fan base.
Zach
Well, it's a good glue for that fan base to stretch across a bunch of generations and I think, yeah, what really helps them. And also the cars have stood up to that reputation over a number of decades. So there's. They were cool in the 60s. They're cool now. The quality is pretty good and consistent across the whole, like, life cycle. And I think all of that means it just has a more powerful magnet for everyone to be a fan of. It doesn't matter what generation they're a fan of.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And the cars, you know, if you. If you. I think if you have a 911 for the weekends, you're likely to get a Macan or a Cayenne or a Panamera for every day because you enjoy interacting with that type of machine. And even if it's, you know, front engine and heavy or electric or whatever, that. The way that it. It. You know, that the steering wheel feels in your hands, the way the driving position is set up and all that, you go, well, this is. This is set up for someone who gives a shit about the driving position. It's not just like, you know, like, not to shit on them too much, but, like, the Volkswagen Golf R has a fabulous driving position. The fucking Tiguan does not. You know what I mean? Like, and so, like, it's not. It's not as consistent. Consistent in that way. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I mean, I think it's just a different. Like, obviously Porsche is focused on people who like to drive. Right.
Matt Farah
But I have, like, my wife has a. Has a Taycan Cross Turismo, which is a cross Turismo 4, which is, like the softest Taycan that exists.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Air suspension, like, soft.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And, like, still feels. Still feels, like.
Ferdy Porsche
Still handles well.
Matt Farah
Still does. Still gets it done, you know? Anyway, so. Yeah, enough. Enough sucking up to Porsche. But I happen to like them.
Ferdy Porsche
I like that, too. Me, too.
Zach
Oh, yeah. Ferdy, push the mic up a little bit. I think it sagged on you.
Matt Farah
Oh, yeah. And turn, turn. Tighten that. That crank there, please. Yeah, yeah, cool. Do.
Ferdy Porsche
Okay, that's good.
Matt Farah
And. And one more. One more family question, and then I want to talk about Karting. Do. When your last name is Porsche.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes.
Matt Farah
I have. I have been. I have been into Stuttgart, you know, as a guest of Porsche, and I've seen cars. I've seen cars that don't exist.
Ferdy Porsche
Okay.
Matt Farah
Okay, so it. When you. Is there a milestone when your last name is Porsche? When do you get to order a car that doesn't exist? No, Like, I want to talk. I want a Targa with a GT3RS engine in it.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, I don't do that.
Matt Farah
Okay. All right. You don't get you. They don't give you the keys to those kingdoms. You got to be Up. Okay. Maybe when you're like 50 or something.
Ferdy Porsche
Maybe.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
No, I don't think it's an H. I don't think it's an age question. I think it depends on like, do you have a role in the company? Like, do you work there? I think it's. It's still like a meritocratic, like.
Matt Farah
Okay, yeah, you got it.
Ferdy Porsche
You have to learn, exist. For sure. It's really cool to be in Stuttgart, right. Because it has all of that family history thing. But it's not like when my dad was young and he just had keys to the factory. Right. Because like it was a tiny thing. Yeah, yeah. So it's not like that anymore. I once didn't get in.
Matt Farah
Really? Yes. What do you mean?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, I once, like, I wanted to visit my dad and like, I don't know why, but like, nonetheless. So I had to wait and I took ages and like, they were like. Yeah, but like, hey, the name though.
Matt Farah
Do you see that? That's.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, it didn't work.
Matt Farah
That's crazy.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, but that's cool also, right? Because in a sense, like, the whole thing is growing and like, it's like, it's fine.
Matt Farah
Okay. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
It's.
Matt Farah
Obviously it hasn't bothered you this whole time.
Ferdy Porsche
No, no, no. I'm pretty.
Matt Farah
But all right. Sorry. We're all right. So that's a shame. No. Builds that don't exist.
Ferdy Porsche
But some of those, I mean, I've seen some of them.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
There's this like famous garage right, of the, like, where the Porsche museum keeps all the, like one of them. The test cars.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I've been there. It's awesome. It's the best. Those weird, you know the weird stuff with the missions equipment hanging off the back and it's like, yeah, that's a Cayenne body. But like on a 911, it's just great. Just freak show cars.
Ferdy Porsche
Cool stuff.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
And it's also really cool how the cars have been developed back in the days and like, what's still, like also still, like how many crazy like things they glued together.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Like kind of test. The most random.
Matt Farah
No, there's like a 924 with a bunch of hanging off it that's been there for like 40 years. And there's also like a 918 with the same looking. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Or the Cayenne Cabriolet.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, that stuff is great. That's what I want. I'd be like, yo, give me the keys to that funky looking prototype that sadly doesn't work. Yeah, I know. I would demand it, but I understand why it doesn't work.
Ferdy Porsche
You can in my name if you want to.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I don't know.
Ferdy Porsche
Demanded by.
Matt Farah
Let's get a petition going that if your name is. This is like. I once went to the factory where they build the engines for the Corvette Z06s, and I found that the people who hand build the engines don't ever get to try a car. And that was very sad to me. Like, you're building engines all day your whole life. Like, they're going in. This car is like, come on. Like a taste. So the same kind of thing, Porsche, you should get to have.
Ferdy Porsche
That's another thing about Porsche that I really like. Like, the people that work for the company are, like, super hyped to be there. Right. Like, it's like, as much as the fans do like it, I think the people that work there are also, like, they have the feeling that they're part of something, like, really cool and they're building something cool.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah, it's sweet. I like my cars, too. They make a nice product. And I get to do it. I get to do a thousand miles in a 918 in two weeks. It should be pretty. Pretty all right. In Georgia, out of Atlanta, I get to do a lap through the Smoky Mountains and come back.
Ferdy Porsche
It's one of the best cars. Yeah.
Matt Farah
I've never really spent much time in one, like, 10 minutes. I'm super excited.
Ferdy Porsche
Me neither. I mean, not much, right?
Matt Farah
I've.
Ferdy Porsche
I've been in one and I've driven one, but, like, not a thousand miles.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I know. I had to, like, beg for this. Yeah.
Zach
Right.
Matt Farah
Carding. So you. The. The actual, like, real reason that you're here, just being. Being. Being cool and being in town doesn't count? Unfortunately.
Ferdy Porsche
No. Yes.
Matt Farah
But the reason that, that you, Your, Your folks got in touch with me is because you're starting a carding league or have started a carding league. Fat carding. Yeah. And why. What are we doing here? What's the deal?
Ferdy Porsche
Okay, so, like, when we, when we came up with the idea of fat and kind of, like, building this world around the brand, right? From events to product to, like, offline experiences, etc, like, kind of like thinking, like, what makes this cool? Like, one of the immediate problems that you stumble across when you think of motorsport is that it's not accessible. It's not a. To your point of, like, the people that build the engines, but it's so expensive. Right. And especially if you want to make it, if you want to go to like, if you want to make it to F1 or if you want to make it to like one of the pro championships. There is no like clear path, right. If you play football, for example, being very European now. But if you play football, the one with the actual feet.
Matt Farah
The one with the feet.
Ferdy Porsche
Then you kind of like, you start playing and then at some point, if you're better, you go to a like semi professional team and you kind of like go through the, go through the, like you climb the step ladder basically. And if you're good enough, like it's a merit based teams exist and you.
Matt Farah
Can join those teams, they will recruit you and teams are always looking and whatever. Which does not happen in racing ever.
Ferdy Porsche
Exactly. It's. It's like this completely like 1.6 billion people watch the sport, like Formula 1.
Matt Farah
Now and 20 people compete in it.
Ferdy Porsche
Exactly. Nobody can like really, there's no. Okay question. How much do you think the average F1 driver spent from the age of five to getting into F1?
Matt Farah
Oh my God.
Zach
To just getting their first seat in there. Spending eight seat or first gentleman seat?
Ferdy Porsche
No, first seat. Like first time sitting in an F. Oh my God. It's like in a. I bet it's.
Matt Farah
5 million, 33 million like on average.
Ferdy Porsche
Obviously there is like different stories, but it's getting like. Because the sport is more and more.
Matt Farah
Someone'S and someone spent 300 million people.
Ferdy Porsche
Are willing to like really spend a lot, a ton of money, right? And it's a sport where you basically. Because there is no like step ladder that is like thought, like thought through and like it's not a merit based thing. You can basically, if you want to be scouted by an F1 team, you like have to drive European Karting Championship, which is also a thing, right? It's only Europe. Like if you drive American Karting championship, no like F1 scout will come to you and like see you. And also it's such a like numbers driven sport, right? The stopwatch doesn't die. But then there's some guy going to a track in Europe just looking at you and like, okay, yeah, maybe. How much money do you bring? So the whole idea basically was. So I met Rob Smedley, the guy who started the karting league and we, we got in touch. I like, he was looking for investors back then, that was like one and a half years ago. And I immediately loved the idea. And then I kind of told him what I do with fat. And we felt that it was a super match, right? Like we Try to open up the spectator side of motorsport and make it more fun and inclusive and younger and wilder. And he like had built a tool to really mess with the system that was not existing. Right. And so like the whole idea of Fat Karting League is that it's a, a league that is merit based. We got the cost down by 96% of a karting season.
Matt Farah
Wow.
Ferdy Porsche
So it's still not like just getting a football and like playing.
Matt Farah
Yes.
Ferdy Porsche
It's way, way cheaper and it's, it's spec.
Matt Farah
Carts. Your carts.
Ferdy Porsche
We build the carts ourselves. So Rob like obviously had spent 25 years of his life in Formula One, so he like brought some of his like co engineers at Ferrari or Williams or wherever to his team and they developed a car that is meant to be a proper race car. So it's, it handles well. It drives the right corner the same way it drives the left corner. Although like, like the battery packs are positioned so it works like that. It's electric. It's an arrive and drive system. So you basically buy your ticket and then just come to one of our races and drive and we collect the data and we see who's fastest and, and you race for points and then ultimately if you win, you will be a part of the Fed Racing team, which is what we launched this weekend, Formula 4.
Matt Farah
You will win a seat. So it's like almost like a grant, like a Gran Turismo GT Academy, but with carts instead of video games. You get a real seat in a real car. Yes. And that seat is a, is a covered seat.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, it's fully funded.
Matt Farah
Yeah, fully funded.
Ferdy Porsche
And like we plan to really build like a full blown race team. Right. Like we plan to build F4, F3, F2 and, and basically have the kids, kids like create a league basically that like is the funnel for the, and.
Matt Farah
You'Re maintaining, you're like, you hold the carts. Like I show up with my helmet in my suit. Not I, but a kid.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah. They don't have to like physically bring the cart.
Ferdy Porsche
No, like, basically that's. So the way the system works now is you have to buy a cart, you have to like have a mechanic or your dad or your mom be the mechanic. You have to buy tires, you have to like sign up for events, you have to drive there, you have to drive the car there, you have to like do all these different things. And obviously, obviously there is ways to cheat, right? There's ways to just spend more money than the other kids and then you will be better. You have like the better mechanic, you buy the newer engine, you buy the fresher tires. So there's ways to, like, cheat. You cheat. There's ways to.
Matt Farah
Yeah, that's what. That's like kind of what racing is.
Ferdy Porsche
And so people do. Right. And we thought if you take a step back, almost every sport that is kind of. That is democratized and that people can really play, like, pretty sure that the fastest driver hasn't raced yet.
Matt Farah
Right.
Ferdy Porsche
Although Max is very fast, someone in.
Matt Farah
Sub Saharan Africa can beat Max if given the chance. Math says so. Math says someone in Mongolia.
Ferdy Porsche
I think Max is the same, by the way. Max, for example, believes in the whole sort of video game thing also, like a lot. Right. He drives Nurburgring with one of his sim racing colleagues, I think. So I believe in the sim racing thing too. Right. I just think you do need some seat time also at some point. This is more fun also, right? Like, oh, you've tried the car kart.
Matt Farah
I tried the cart. Yeah, I tried the cart and I am like, fat. It's like I'm. I'm like, I'm actually fat. It's. I don't think the carts. I mean, granted, fat is good.
Ferdy Porsche
We already established.
Matt Farah
I had a fabulous time. I mean, this, this is a. The league is for kids of what age?
Ferdy Porsche
5 to 17.
Matt Farah
Okay. So granted, most of those kids are probably going to be smaller and lighter than me. Having said that, the cart was fabulous. The power was great. The brakes were very predictable. It oversteered on both entry and exit, which I found fabulous. The steering, the normal steering input actually flexed the chassis a bit, which is interesting. And then you can do your normal bend the wheel and really fucking land on the nose. If you bend it more, you can lift the inside front wheel. It was a really nice car to drive. It was a lot of fun and it maintained its pace from the whole. I mean, our races were pretty short, but I don't know how, how long, how long is the battery intended to last in that cart? 20 minute race.
Ferdy Porsche
Battery. Yeah. Like we. We basically charge them between. So we have three different sizes of cards just for the different age groups, and we charge them in between. I don't even know, like, maybe half an hour.
Matt Farah
Yeah, no, he said it char. It charges from. In about a half hour, it'll charge up. But I don't know if I like, I ran, I don't know, five, six laps of the track. I don't know if that's the length of a race.
Ferdy Porsche
No, I think the length of a race is more like 20 minutes, 25 minutes.
Matt Farah
Yeah. So it, it, it for at least as long as I was driving it, it made full power.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, it will make full power the whole time.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
No, no, they're designed to be proper like race carts. And also it's not like the Taycan, for example, that delivers all the torque immediately. Yeah.
Matt Farah
And it builds.
Ferdy Porsche
The cart is built to like to, to mimic the power curve of a combustion engine because obviously that's what the kids ideally at some point are able to get into, right? F4, F3, F2. Yeah.
Matt Farah
And on cold tires, the instant torque does you no favors and you know, know, compared to.
Ferdy Porsche
And like you can cheat, right? You can cheat yourself out of a corner if you like. If you then go to combustion, like you have to learn how to really drive, right, and keep the revs up and make sure you, you carry as much speed as possible and not just like cheat yourself with like all the power out of the corner.
Matt Farah
No, the car, it worked. And left foot braking worked. It doesn't kill all the power. If you left foot brake, you can, you can actually drive the car. It was very, very fun. I had a really nice time. And the new track surface at Willows.
Ferdy Porsche
Good. Yeah, mega. The car, the car track looks super cool.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I mean the whole sort of. So how it works is basically we build hubs all over the place. So we had, we are now at, at three hubs. So we have the original one in the UK where Rob is based, where we already ran three seasons. So this is already the third generation of cart. And we now feel very comfortable that the cart delivers to all the, like to all the standards that we put on it. And then now we expand, basically. So this year we opened two hubs in the states. One in the Indianapolis, this Chicago area, one in Southern California, and then next year another four and the year after eight. So we want to get to 50 hops in the next five years.
Matt Farah
Is the Southern California one going to be at Willow Springs?
Ferdy Porsche
So a hub usually like goes to many tracks. So it's one geography.
Matt Farah
Got it.
Ferdy Porsche
But then it goes to many tracks. So you'll find it in like, I think we. In California or in Southern California we have like four or five.
Matt Farah
There's another new track, like the K1 outdoor track in like Temecula. That looks really cool. I haven't tried it. It looks pretty sick.
Ferdy Porsche
Nice.
Matt Farah
But these carts were really fun. I really had a good, good time driving them. Do we have patron people things, Zach? The. Our patron patrons get to ask questions for the show. And let's get to some of them. If you want to ask questions for the show for our guests, catch the live stream, get the show before anybody else. Get the show without ads. Get extra show and more. Such as the show that we did from Willow Springs. Is that up on Patreon?
Zach
Not yet.
Matt Farah
Okay. It's going to be. We did a show.
Ferdy Porsche
Oh, you did one there?
Matt Farah
We did one there. It's going up on Patreon. Yeah. We had like Jensen, Sam, Marcus and Marino on the show. It was great. It's pronounced. Porsche says if there was a one stepping stone for a young driver like karting age to get into slick, loose surface style racing, what would that be and where could we get started? Where does a kid learn to drive loose? That's a very. Dirt tracks. I mean you can go to the set. Go, go. You know, lots you can talk about dirt bikes, cross carts.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Zach
I think dirt bike ovals, the most accessible. And then you can also drive.
Ferdy Porsche
Sorry. Also drive cars on ice. I mean there's some like ice karting tracks.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah. And.
Ferdy Porsche
But you have to live somewhere close to the mountains or.
Matt Farah
And I don't know, I mean, I'm not sure you need a driver. I mean young Dr. Dude. Like cross carts or Sierra cars or. Yeah. Which has to be the best way, right? Or dirt bikes.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Farah
Costcob tuning says what driving characteristic must be present for a car to still feel like a Porsche regardless of powertrain or class? That's a very good question.
Ferdy Porsche
Steering is good. Steering and braking.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I think are the most important and very Porsche specific attributes to.
Matt Farah
I have to agree. Yeah. There's not a car in the lineup that steers badly or stops badly.
Ferdy Porsche
That would be bad.
Matt Farah
Yeah, that would be a real problem. Charlie Quirk in feature says tell us about the Porsche boats.
Ferdy Porsche
Oh yeah, we did, I think one.
Matt Farah
Right. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I think there is now a collab with Fraucher, which is like an Austrian boat builder and they put like the Macan powertrain ev.
Matt Farah
Yeah, ev.
Ferdy Porsche
Like it's pretty because most of the lakes in Austria, for example, you can drive. Oh really can drive combustion boats.
Matt Farah
So that's probably nice.
Ferdy Porsche
Bigger and bigger amount.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Because I think. I think it's mostly for the drinking quality of the water and like for. For it to be clean, as clean as possible.
Matt Farah
I mean that's probably good. I've never been on a real. A pure EV boat. I'd like to have you been on one. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
But only a very slow one.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Right.
Ferdy Porsche
I haven't Tried ours, but I think there's more of a. There's like. Yeah, there's a bigger and bigger market for this.
Matt Farah
Yeah, they're hybridizing. I mean, they're hybridizing big yachts as well, which is kind of cool where you, you can go in and out of the marinas on electric power. You don't have to idle so much.
Ferdy Porsche
Like with the 918, you leave the garage silently. Nobody knows you. Don't annoy your neighbors.
Zach
That's cool.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah. This is cool. The Porsche 850 Phantom. It's cool. I like it. Someone at Porsche let me drive one, please. I'd like to very much like to try one.
Ferdy Porsche
Another reason to come to Austria.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I would go to Austria for that liftoff over steering committee. Oh, we just, we talked about this. Which, if any family member cars are most coveted by other family members. If you get.
Ferdy Porsche
What does that mean? Like who has the coolest cars?
Matt Farah
Yeah, who has the coolest cars? Your dad has some pretty cool stuff, right?
Ferdy Porsche
My dad has some cool stuff. Ferry Pierre had some really cool stuff. Yeah, because obviously like he was a, for a long time he was a CFO of Volkswagen. So he had like, like the Bugattis, like some pretty cool stuff. Back in the days. Back in the days, My, my, my grandfather's sister, so Louisa, she had like really, really cool specked cars.
Matt Farah
Really?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. Always like funky colors and like interior exterior. Like crazy mashups and that kind of girl.
Matt Farah
I like it.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes.
Matt Farah
I like it. Ted Stryker says you can give a non Porsche fan one car for a day to convince them to become a fan of the brand. Brand. What do you give them a GT3 or something like that?
Ferdy Porsche
If we're talking modern cars. Yes, you give them a GT3 or.
Matt Farah
If they can drive stick a 964Rs.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes. That's a very good choice, right? Yes.
Matt Farah
Or I'll tell you how you. I'll tell you something that really changed my mind about Porsche was the first time I drove a 356 because I'd only driven like cars from the 50s. I'd only driven like American cars which are all, all just shit piles and wobbly. They're just trash. And I drove a 356 and within, it was within about a month of driving a gull wing. And I was like, yo, what were they doing over there in the 50s? Like these cars stop and turn and shift. Nice. Like when I learned that you could just daily a356 without having to give up like anything, I was like, oh, that's. This is a different type of car building.
Ferdy Porsche
I once drove the Minamilia with my dad in a speed seat, and it was. It was mega because, like, you. You obviously compete with the Gallowings with the Jaguars of the time, and with all that, like, stuff that has, like, way more horsepower. And the advantage of the 356 is you just, like. You don't have to break in front of the corner. You can just, like, go through it because it's also so light. Right?
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Those are, like, really cool cars.
Matt Farah
They're good.
Ferdy Porsche
But maybe for someone who has never driven any other 50s car, like, it's better to start with something new, probably.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
964.
Matt Farah
That's what I'm saying. You don't just throw someone in the 50s. But if you really want to be like, how is this different?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
You know, drive, like, four or five cars from the 50s.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And one is a 356. And you go, oh, okay. This is like a different fucking thing. Lee Kunkel's Autobahn.
Ferdy Porsche
What good names here.
Matt Farah
That's. We encourage this. That's from the Big Lebowski. If you had one perfect night to drive any car you wanted, what would it be?
Ferdy Porsche
What is.
Matt Farah
That's a.
Ferdy Porsche
Why does it have to be during the night?
Matt Farah
Well, night is different. Night is different.
Ferdy Porsche
GT1.
Matt Farah
GT1. Oh, come on. That's why. On the Molsan straight, please. Yes. Never tried a GT one.
Ferdy Porsche
I've done it once.
Matt Farah
Once. 993 or 996.
Ferdy Porsche
It was probably 996, and it was the 98. So it's the, like. There's only one street version of the 98 because it's like the silver one. It has the sequential. No, it's white. Sequential gearbox. It's basically the LeMarc car that's wild for the road. It also doesn't have any leather or anything. It was the cool. Like, it was my best day ever.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
That's literally got out of it. I was like, okay, I can die now.
Matt Farah
Yeah, it's pretty red.
Ferdy Porsche
I don't want to die.
Matt Farah
I'll tell you what. At night, if you're talking, but if.
Ferdy Porsche
I had to, you go, at least I got to drive last day. Yeah. GT1 again.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Louisiana to Vegas, 2:00am Rolls Royce, not Spectre. If you could do it in one, but, like, Wraith, Starfield ceiling, you know, most expensive stereo option. Just one night. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
That's yours. Yeah.
Matt Farah
If I'm going night, I'm not trying to, like, Toge the mountain at night. I want to, you know. Steam train. Steam train.
Ferdy Porsche
Dude. I love driving through the Alps. I. I think like. Driving through. Yeah. Like anytime you drive through the Alps, you feel like James Bond. You have a nice car. I don't know. 911R through the Alps.
Matt Farah
We like. Exceptional. But we don't go up there at night a lot. It's really dark. Dark.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Really, really dark up there at night. And like there's just nothing else. There's nowhere like to go.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
But daytime.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
You guys, I'm. The Alps are the best. Absolute best.
Ferdy Porsche
Now we had three nights already.
Matt Farah
Three nights. Mr. Dr. Thomas Foolery. Oh, no. Anything. He doesn't work there anymore. You can tell us about the EV Cayman Ferdie doesn't work there.
Ferdy Porsche
I mean, I could.
Matt Farah
But I won't talk after the show. I don't do. Chris from Colorado. Yeah. Why does Porsche not make the Dakar a standard option or trim? They should.
Ferdy Porsche
Good question.
Matt Farah
Good question. They should. And we have a. We got a friend. He didn't bring it to Willow, but he was out there. A local guy here in LA who built his own Dakar. He ordered all the Dakar suspension and underbody bits and bought a used Carrera 4Rs and basically. Yeah. Yeah. And basically it doesn't have the. The cladding. Yeah. But it has the right wheels and the right suspension and everything.
Ferdy Porsche
One of the coolest, modern, great Porsches.
Matt Farah
Yeah, it's great. But I, I would use this guy's method to build a manual Dakar, which they won't. I know. Poor. You need Porsche torque vectoring plus to make a Dakar which only comes with pdk. Like. I get it. I still want a stick one. Don't you? Kind of. Of. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Stick is almost always more fun.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes.
Matt Farah
Yeah. I'd rather. I. I'm like, I'd like a rear drive Carrera T rally car with a stick and a good mechanical diff to like.
Ferdy Porsche
There's something unfortunately that like for sure is like. It's just, it's similar to the. To what you said about Mars Manx. It's just. It will make you smile and like the car is maybe not really made for rallying, but it works on like loose surfaces as well on the street.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach
Jeff's word has proven that a lot. As of other people, of course.
Matt Farah
PACIFICA COAST HIGHWAY MOST UNDERRATED pts Color may not photograph well but in person is fantastic. Viola purple metallic looks a lot like black until you stand near it.
Ferdy Porsche
Sport classic gray sometimes looks white Sometimes.
Matt Farah
Some of those, like, hyper. Whatever the fuck, transitiony ones look real. I don't like, you know, still too much. Much.
Ferdy Porsche
I thought. Like, I find that too crazy also. Like, those cars look way better in California somehow than they would in Austria.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Yeah. Like, It's Bo Bachman's GT3RS in Super Purple. Probably looks insane in Austria. Yeah.
Zach
Is it. Is that a cultural thing where, like, it's just too loud visually, or does it.
Ferdy Porsche
I think it's also the lightscape. I think it's also the light and then matches with the landscape. That's also an important feature. And, like, I just. I. I was just in Tokyo. Tokyo. Two weeks ago, and every single color looks good there. You can drive, like, an orange car.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Never do in, like, back home. And it looks crazy.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Tokyo is the best backdrop for any car.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, it totally looks better in Tokyo.
Matt Farah
That's a. That is actually. That should be a title of somebody's book probably. Like, that's. That's pretty good. Yeah. Have you seen South Seas blue metallic yet? No, that's my new favorite color. It's.
Ferdy Porsche
Where is that? Is that an old color?
Matt Farah
No, it's a new color. It was new for this year.
Ferdy Porsche
Year.
Matt Farah
I tried to. I tried to order an ST in it, even though I can't afford an st, and they laughed at me. Really? Yeah. They're like, nice try, buddy.
Ferdy Porsche
I think one of the coolest you've only bought. Wow.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
I think one of the coolest colors is Copa Florio.
Matt Farah
What is that? I don't know.
Ferdy Porsche
It's a very light blue.
Matt Farah
I don't know. How do you spell that?
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. C, O, P, P, A, fl. Like Florio.
Matt Farah
Like, the cup of South Seas is pretty good. Imagine that on an st. That would be pretty nice. Oh, I know this one.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. You, everybody, GT2.
Matt Farah
I know the GT2 in this one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
It's sick, dude.
Matt Farah
Tim, our. Our buddy Timmy Pappas had that 993 GT2 parked in your corral there, which was. Oh, boy. In that. I forget. Sunoco blue. I think that's Sunoco blue.
Ferdy Porsche
Is it?
Matt Farah
Yeah. So no go blue with yellow seat belts, stitching, and calipers.
Ferdy Porsche
I don't know.
Matt Farah
993 GT. That's the true.
Ferdy Porsche
And I mean this one with all.
Matt Farah
Yes, I know this color. Yes. Yeah, that's a great color. Reminds me a little bit of moonstone.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Which is really good. Moonstone's a jam. We had a Moonstone GT4RS here for a minute. It was really cool. Yeah. PTS. Yep. And I will defend. It's not. It's PTS now. It wasn't when I got it. Frozen Berry Metallic is the best.
Zach
The rest are just for us.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Zach
General stuff.
Matt Farah
Cool. Okay. So people can enter their kids in the race and sign ups for Southern California.
Ferdy Porsche
Yes. I mean, well, I mean, somehow it feels like people in California just get cars in general. Like our karting league is like already buzzing. But you can like still sign up. You go to our website.
Matt Farah
Let's see the calendar.
Ferdy Porsche
You can, you can go to tryouts and then like just see if your kid likes it and if he or she likes it.
Zach
Wow.
Matt Farah
Okay, so. So wait. So this is the whole season? Regional championship, pro championship, multiple races, three, $100. Nice.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah. So basically, like, we go from single, like tryout space. The idea is you go to the tryout, you see if it. If you like it or no. And then you just enter your kid into like, you ideally buy a season pass.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
Because then you can compete to like take part in the world final, which is going to happen on the 14th of of December at Willow Springs. Oh. So anyone who's out there this weekend, come, we're gonna bring some cool cars.
Matt Farah
This 14th of December, Willow Springs. Oh, I'll be there. I'll be there.
Ferdy Porsche
And then like, let's help make the kids feel like they're superstars.
Matt Farah
Oh, and you're racing at Adams. Adams is fun. Have you been out there?
Ferdy Porsche
No, not yet.
Matt Farah
Oh, it's a good time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Adams is a great car track and you can do a. You can drift a car on it too.
Ferdy Porsche
Really?
Zach
Yeah, barely.
Matt Farah
Kind of.
Ferdy Porsche
People do.
Matt Farah
You can. It's impressive. You can and they do. It's a little risky, but we've done it.
Ferdy Porsche
So let's do it then.
Matt Farah
You can, you can do rent.
Ferdy Porsche
When?
Matt Farah
Whenever I want. Call them up. Let's go. Yeah, you should check out that other one. Shack and Temecula. I think that would work out for you. Dude, do I have anything else on my list that I wanted to ask you and missed? I don't know. You're cool, man. You should hang out next time you're in town. Definitely. And. And, And. Okay. Ice race in Montana. Same fat international. If they want to enter Ice Race.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And buy tickets to Ice race. It's in Big Sky.
Ferdy Porsche
It's in Big Sky. You fly to Bozeman.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
You drive up to Big Sky.
Matt Farah
It's going to awesome.
Ferdy Porsche
It's going to be mega.
Matt Farah
I'm going to be There. Maybe Zach will come.
Ferdy Porsche
You know, last time we had a GT1 on the ice. So I have to still figure out what's the sort of one hyper, hyper, hyper thing.
Zach
Right. Is the selection process.
Ferdy Porsche
We already have so many things. Even like now in Willow Springs. I don't know, like a guy with a Miura came and was like, can I drive my Miura? I'm like, yeah.
Matt Farah
Oh yeah. I saw that guy pulling in. Yeah.
Ferdy Porsche
No, not that guy.
Matt Farah
Another guy. Not the one with the silver one.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, apparently like multiple M. That's cool. So no, like people want to bring some heavy metal. Like I'm excited.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach
I love ice racing because your land speed is so different from wheel speed. You know, you could be going like wheel speed 80 miles per hour and you're just crawling but sideways and you're.
Ferdy Porsche
Having so much fun, you know, like it's the most fun you can have in a car. Apart from maybe sex.
Matt Farah
You have to remember to keep your windows closed if you have them though. Cuz you just get. You will get blasted in the face.
Zach
It's okay.
Ferdy Porsche
One year in Austria, we didn't have that much snow. So like at some point in the afternoon, like we were all through the ice and so the people started to throw up the mud and like people would still like the cars would start to throw up the mud. People were still standing in the corners and were like, yes, give me more. So like it's really like, it's a good thing. People, people really bring the party.
Matt Farah
Awesome. I need to get some merch. Cause now that I'm a little less fat, I can wear things that say fat on them for a long time. I would definitely not wear anything that said fat on it. But now I think I can.
Ferdy Porsche
That's fat Turbo. I think you can.
Matt Farah
That's better. Yeah, I can do that. Yeah, I can do that. Because I'm fat but not slow and yeah, I can't wait to do Montana. It's gonna be great. Put some sp. What size spikes do I want?
Ferdy Porsche
7 mil.
Matt Farah
7 mil.
Ferdy Porsche
That's the maximum we allow. So I think that like means you have a lot of.
Zach
Get those cheater spikes from Colorado. They're like this long.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I gotta call Zwart's guy. The ones. The ones that look like the ones that they put in the hubs of really angry truck drivers.
Ferdy Porsche
Please don't.
Matt Farah
Thanks, Fernie. It's good. It's good to have you.
Ferdy Porsche
Likewise.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I can't wait to hang in montana. And then December 14th at Willow Springs for the Karting championship and maybe have. Maybe we'll convince them to let us do some other fun things while we're out there that day.
Ferdy Porsche
We should.
Matt Farah
We should.
Ferdy Porsche
No, I want to get the kids into the seats also and like, kind of like take them around.
Matt Farah
Oh, yeah. Oh, we can get. Yeah, we can do that. Yeah, yeah, we can do that too. We'll ask. We'll ask the suits. I'm sure they'll be.
Ferdy Porsche
I thought there are no suits in California.
Matt Farah
The suits don't wear suits. But there's. They act like sometimes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They just go surfing with their M5 before. Work the board out the sunroof, you know, before they tell you why you can't do something.
Ferdy Porsche
They do sound like cool suits.
Matt Farah
It's. They're better than the New York suits sometimes. Yeah, yeah, they're chiller.
Ferdy Porsche
What's cool in New York or la?
Matt Farah
What's cooler? No, like. Like New York. The people are. Are. Are like, more interested probably. But LA is better for cars by.
Ferdy Porsche
100%, by a lot. You don't drive in New York, do you?
Matt Farah
Not in New York City. The suburbs of New York are great for driving. Connecticut, Greenwich. The fuck is fabulous for driving. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You should open a store there.
Ferdy Porsche
Yeah, 100%. You should.
Matt Farah
Let's go.
Ferdy Porsche
Fab. Should be everywhere.
Matt Farah
All major markets coming soon. Thank you to our patrons for asking such good questions today. Really appreciate you. Please come hang out with us on December 14th at Willow Springs and in Montana in February. That's gonna be rad. My car will sound like a biplane at three miles an hour.
Ferdy Porsche
Yay.
Matt Farah
Thanks for coming in, man. And please go buy some merch, because that's really what they're doing over here. They're moving units. See you guys next time. Bye.
Ferdy Porsche
Bye.
