He then started HK to sell race cars at Monticello Motor Club but now sells the cool and weird in his own store. The Kimera, the Fifteen Eleven, Gunther Werks. in Bedford Hills, New York at my old pal Nat Mundy's shop, HK Motor Cars. This guy is a dealer of all the weird stuff. I'm talking Guntherwerks. I'm talking Chimera. I'm talking about all those strange brands where you see me drive them and you go, where do people even buy those cars? The answer is from Nat Mundy at HK Motor Cars. And he also knows a thing or two about a hot dog. It's the Smoking Tire Podcast. Let's go. Mini podcast. It was supposed to be a full fucking podcast. But guess what car didn't cooperate.
Nat Mundy
Not it doesn't always work out.
Matt Farah
Sometimes the car doesn't cooperate. So me and Nat, we'll just reminisce for a Little bit, but not as long as we were gonna, is what I'm saying. You know, I'm very sweaty today. That was a, it was a sweaty afternoon with the chimera and the 15, 11, 9, 14.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Matt Farah
All right. This is radio. So I've known this guy for 21 years now, right? Yeah, 21 years. Oh, five.
Yeah.
And we met over some car thing. And you had just opened Grand Prix New York.
Nat Mundy
We were raising money for it.
Matt Farah
Still had you not actually opened?
Nat Mundy
I didn't start a construction.
Guest/Producer
Okay.
Matt Farah
All right, so it's before we met, before it actually opened. Oh, yeah. I remember because we got to check it out a little bit before it opened. Right.
Nat Mundy
And I had played hockey with Larry.
Matt Farah
Right.
Nat Mundy
You were a man. New York Motor Club.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Okay. I, I actually had not thought that far back about it for a while.
Nat Mundy
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And then when you opened, you wanted to make a television commercial, a local cable. And you hired me and Tom Morningstar to make your commercial. And instead of paying with money, you pay us with free lifetime unlimited go karting.
Nat Mundy
Yeah, that's. You won on that one, which I agree.
Guest/Producer
Someone asked if you ever calculated the
Matt Farah
money gratuitously took advantage of.
Nat Mundy
There was never a reason to because you always brought other people with you.
Matt Farah
I did. I brought paying people.
Nat Mundy
You were a good freebie to have. I, I threw a lot of like, definitely small bar mitzvahs for some people that just showed up at 20 kids on a Saturday. You never did that?
Matt Farah
No, no, he never did that. I, I, I didn't, I don't say I abused it, but I went carding every day. Yeah. For like a year and a half.
Nat Mundy
Correct.
Matt Farah
And I won the men's league, which was pretty fun.
Nat Mundy
And you had great commercials for us. I made a commercial. Did you use for a while, probably five years on cable tv. And the better part about that, did
Matt Farah
you want to build a winning team?
Nat Mundy
Exactly.
Matt Farah
Was the team building commercial.
Nat Mundy
But the coolest part about that was that segued into you to the 24 hour go kart race.
Matt Farah
Oh, yes. We did do the 24 hour go kart race, which was very fun.
Nat Mundy
And we had to wet the track down to save tires. So. So, Zach, to make tires last 24 hours of non stop use, we had to basically dump water on the track to be slippery. So I was armed, which made it really hard. So I had the hose at the top of the top of the bridge just giving people a fire hose. And then the buckets of five gallon buckets of water.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
That you Just nail people with. It was like.
Matt Farah
It's like the Nurburgring where half the track is dry and then all of a sudden out of nowhere.
Guest/Producer
That's pretty cool. That's probably really fun.
Matt Farah
It was. It was very challenging. And this was like. This was really the first of the. Of its kind of the sort of luxury indoor go kart track.
Nat Mundy
That's correct. And we had F1. Boston was sort of the first in America. And we just basically copied that but added a little bit more sort of a. A higher end vibe.
Matt Farah
Yeah, the bar.
Nat Mundy
The bar. Chilean sea bass steak fr. At the restaurant.
Matt Farah
I ate at the restaurant a lot. The restaurant was really good.
Nat Mundy
It was actually really good.
Matt Farah
The rest. Was it called.
Nat Mundy
It was called Fuel.
Matt Farah
Oh, yes, of course. The restaurant. Restaurant was good. But I always thought that you were really interesting because of the hot dog carts.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Hot dog heaven.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Like Nat is like a. Is a very traditional entrepreneur of just start small and roll it in. And start small and roll it in. I mean, that's how you kind of started hk.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Matt Farah
And before that, like the hot dog carts. So, like, tell us the story of the hot dog.
Nat Mundy
Well, with Grand Prix New York, we were at Lime Rock 30 days a year. Right. So 30 days a year, just promoting for Grand Prix New York, Lime Rock, at all the five major weekends they'd have there. So I bought Shea Stadium was being torn down. They were building Citi Field and they put all of the hot dog carts up for public auction to sell. But you couldn't just buy one, you had to buy 100.
Matt Farah
Was it 100?
Nat Mundy
It was over 100.
Guest/Producer
Whoa.
Nat Mundy
And I got there and they were all sitting in various piles and some were great, some were, you know, used. Some or whatever ended up selling the really good ones on ebay. Because you want a piece of Shea Stadium, this is your chance.
Guest/Producer
Sure.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
And then I scraped.
Matt Farah
We have Yankee Stadium seats.
Nat Mundy
It was a common seats.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
So then I scrapped the junk stuff because whatever, scrap is scrap. And then I kept 10 and I operated them at racetracks and various things along with my bouncy castle and portable go kart setup. I went full carny for about seven years.
Matt Farah
Wow, he looks Greenwich. And he's got nice cars now, but like back then he dressed Greenwich and he looked like this. Just less facial hair. But he was the trashiest person. Like he would draw, he would drive like weird engine swapped Land Rovers. He'd be hustling carny rides. Like the weird. He was always doing the weirdest hustle.
Nat Mundy
Well, it was Desperate times, right? We opened up a $12 million go kart track in 2007. And then, boom, the economy goes. We didn't want to do that. And every corporate event puckered up and said, we can't actually. We're not allowed to do our corporate events anymore. And so we had to really change the model and do, like, Mitzvahs and Sweet 16s and became family entertainment as well. But you're not wrong. Like, I had. Yeah. I still. I still have that Range Rover. And it runs on. It runs on fry oil or. Yeah. The one in the back warehouse here has got a Corvette Callaway engine in it. Cool. Because as you do.
Matt Farah
Because.
Nat Mundy
Yeah, it does. Yeah.
Matt Farah
Is it like four forced induction or.
Nat Mundy
It's one of two that. No, it's not forced induction. It's one of two Callaway made. It's a Vet Ranger. And I have the road and track article. And that was owned by another car dealer in. In Greenwich.
Matt Farah
So that engine was installed new by Callaway.
Nat Mundy
Wow. And it was. It was one of two built. It was then purchased by Mark Starr. Oh, yeah. Who sold it to me when I was, like, I don't know, 22 years old. So I've always loved that. Nothing normal about.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Super stupid.
Nat Mundy
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Yeah. But so. But I always was like hot dog carts, like that. It was just such a strange.
Nat Mundy
I was the king of go karts and tube meat and. And I have to say that, like, hot dogs, it was 35 cents your cost.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Per dog. And you could sell them for like, three, four bucks. It added up pretty quick.
Guest/Producer
Yep.
Nat Mundy
And it was a great. A great couple summers doing that. And then the best part is the exit strategy on that one was Lime Rock bought all the equipment from us.
Matt Farah
Oh, really?
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
They were like, well, we like what you're doing. Can we buy it?
Matt Farah
Wow.
Guest/Producer
So all at once, one customer still
Nat Mundy
get a mundy dog. Dirty. A dirty mundy dog. Up at Lime Rock. And they've really fixed up. I mean, Lime Rock's crushing it now, by the way. Haven't been up there in a while yet.
Matt Farah
I was up there like maybe three.
Three years ago.
Nat Mundy
Dickie Regal, who runs it now, has got Rose all day as the theme. It's. It's well done hospitality.
Matt Farah
For real. Yes.
Nat Mundy
They've got good drinks. They've got Lime Rock lemonade, which is basically yucca. I mean, they've really done a great job.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Nat Mundy
My. My. My product line wouldn't fit in today's Lime Rocks.
Matt Farah
We're going back we're going the road and track experiences. The, the Hudson 400 Hudson Quattrocento.
Nat Mundy
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Lime Rock is the, the true track we use.
Nat Mundy
Okay.
Matt Farah
Any listeners, you want to come drive with me? Dude, you know what? Maybe, maybe I'll ask you to come out to Lime Rock with like the 037 for a day and we can give people a couple of thrill rides. Yeah, that would be a good time.
Nat Mundy
I'd love that.
Matt Farah
You could drive. I could drive. We could have a, A pro. Whatever you want to do.
Nat Mundy
And depending what time of year when it is, I mean, October, end of October, we'll have some other really great stuff by then. Cool.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Matt Farah
So, so, yeah, I mean, when you, when I, when you were like, hey, after, after, you know, when I moved to LA and you, you wisely, I think, converted half of the go kart track into a bowling alley because you can serve booze to people while they
Nat Mundy
bowl food and beverage and you can't
Matt Farah
serve booze to people while they're go karting.
Nat Mundy
At least you shouldn't. The arcade was the real savior though.
Matt Farah
Was it the arcade?

Eating healthy is not a willpower problem. It's a setup problem. Until I found factor. Because Factor solves the setup problem with fully prepared meals designed by dieticians, crafted by chefs and delivered, well, right to your door. The days are a little more relaxed and I find myself reaching for the same comfortable go anywhere pieces again and again. That's why I keep coming back to Quince, focusing on well made essentials that naturally become those everyday staples you actually live in all season long. Like the 100% European linen pants. And the shirts. They're easily breathable, easy to throw on and the summer upgrade your rotation needs starting at just 34 bucks for linen. That's crazy. That's crazy talk for linen. I brought one of their shirts to our Connecticut trip. That's right, I did. The stripy one. Their tees are soft enough to live in all day and the lightweight cotton sweaters are exactly what you want when summer nights cool down. I got two of those sweaters. They're sweet. Everything at quints is priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands, working directly with ethical factories cutting out that middleman so you're paying for exceptional quality and not brand markup. Like I said, the lightweight sweaters are money. It's like an open weave. It's very breathable, it's light, they got just the right amount of stretch and the fit is excellent. It's good for the California night where it looks like it's going to be warm, but it's a little colder Than you think. Quince has become a trusted favorite for everything from home to travel to everyday essentials. It's not just clothes, so make your summer wardrobe easier. Go to quince.com tire for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns. Now available in Canada too. Quint.com tire for free shipping and 365 day returns.
Nat Mundy
Quint.com tire that one game, Big Bass Wheel. Like $15,000 game does. $15,000 a week.
Matt Farah
No way.
Nat Mundy
It just prints tickets.
Matt Farah
No way.
Nat Mundy
So your cost of goods sold on an arcade is like 16 cents.
Guest/Producer
That is crazy.
Nat Mundy
It's very expensive. Capex up front and electricity. Etc. But they're just PCs, of course. Flat screens now.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah. It's just a wood cabinet with.
Nat Mundy
I'm so glad I'm not in that business anymore.
Guest/Producer
Well, now everyone's got a phone that has like so many games on it, Right.
Matt Farah
I bet you, I bet you a full arcade game could run on an Android phone.
Guest/Producer
Oh, definitely.
Nat Mundy
It's probably about the same processing power, just Prince tickets. But that's, that's a great. In October 2019, I was bought out of all those locations.
Matt Farah
Ironically, you could hit a. I could hit a five iron into the front.
Nat Mundy
We are in the complex from there right now.
Matt Farah
It's directly across the street. This, by the way, this, this parking lot, Zach, is where I hucked the, the accessory drive belt off the Vanquish trying to do a donut.
Guest/Producer
Got it. This is where it happened.
Nat Mundy
Yeah, we did it. We did a charity car show and Matt Ferris shows up and blows the
Matt Farah
belt off the car. And I, I thought I had done some terrible thing. And then until someone sent me Vicki Butler Henderson's review from Fifth Gear.
Nat Mundy
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Where she does the same thing. And I, I, that was how, that
was my intro to Vicki.
I was like, vicki, thank you for proving I wasn't some.
Nat Mundy
She replicated it. Yeah, it was all good,
Matt Farah
but. And then you were like, dude, I'm going to go up to Montecello to sell race cars.
Nat Mundy
Yeah, we would. I went up there, consulted for them for nine years, was an executive for three of them. It was great. Wonderful track. One of my favorite complexes.
Matt Farah
Still one of my favorites.
Nat Mundy
And it just happens to be two hours away from home.
Matt Farah
Yeah. So that was. Were there any open private track clubs that were built for that? Maybe Autobahn. Autobahn.
Nat Mundy
And Spring Mountain was being built. And Spring Mountain because the radical program was between Monticello and there.
Matt Farah
I think Spring Mountain might be my favorite racetrack. Country club that I've seen.
Nat Mundy
Oh yeah.
Matt Farah
Well it's got the most track.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
The most tarmac out of all of them.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
And configurations etc any year round season. And Ari from Monticello is building pieces one down in. In Port St. Lucie. I've heard good things so that's going to be.
Matt Farah
I don't want to have to go to Florida. Sorry. Yeah, maybe not but same Aaron Weiss at Concourse has always been very nice to me. I would love it but Florida we've got very sticky.
Guest/Producer
We.
Nat Mundy
We spent a lot of time at Concourse Club. We've got a. Our, our. Our Miami location is there is house at. At one of their lofts.
Matt Farah
I mean as one does.
Nat Mundy
Yeah. But Monticello was a really fun stint. I mean I, I lived on in lake houses with instructors relived my college years for another 10. Kind of postponed reality and just realized that I couldn't work seven days a week anymore.
Matt Farah
Well it's easy. It's. How easy is it to fall into that trap when your job is like kind of fun and, and, and a good portion of your job is just like hanging out and bullshitting with guys around the racetrack.
Nat Mundy
It's very true but you know it's like places like that breed a lot of like minded people. You meet. You meet some people that you really enjoy and those relationships tend to be around cars. There's no politics at Monticello like outside of the politics that involve are involved at the track itself. But like you know you, you talk about cars. You talk about like my people's kids and how they're doing. Are they racing and whatever. And I built the go kart facility for them, the off road program and I even bought them a tank.
Matt Farah
A tank?
Nat Mundy
Yeah. Chieftain and then an APC 432.
Matt Farah
Does it work?
Nat Mundy
It does, yeah.
Matt Farah
What do you do with it?
Nat Mundy
Drive over cars. Oh nice as. What else do you.
Guest/Producer
Right. Carnival ride.
Matt Farah
I did that in Minnesota. No, Minnesota. It was. I think it was called trivitank.com or something.
Nat Mundy
But then with Chris Du Plessis we built the rally program and some other stuff and, and Chris is now at P1 and I think we all kind of stayed in that game. But what I realized from it was you know the portfolio of a resume of people that I met who are all active car people and collectors is a great segue into the dealership side of things.
Matt Farah
Well if you're hang. If you're there and hanging out, they're asking you where to buy cars and where to sell cars. So you're. You're you're. You have to be that guy. You might as well make a living off it.
Nat Mundy
And I obviously liked being at a racetrack all the time. I can tell you right now that I don't miss the, the commute. I mean it was two hours.
Matt Farah
That sucks.
Nat Mundy
There was no if ands.
Matt Farah
Is that how you ended up with 240,000 miles on a F80 or what is it? F30, whatever that.
Nat Mundy
So I just. Cuz I destroyed the 2004 S4 in about a year.
Matt Farah
Sure.
Nat Mundy
That car cost me $47,000 to drive 147,000 miles.
Matt Farah
Okay.
Nat Mundy
In out of warranty service, that little diesel BMW has cost around 6,7000. That's in, in, in consumables.
Matt Farah
If you're racking up miles. That is the car.
Nat Mundy
Yeah. Oh, for sure. And it's got great better headlights, better, better wipers. All the things that you get with a BMW exist on that three series.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Nat Mundy
You know, it's not just some.
Guest/Producer
No, it's. Those are really good cars.
Nat Mundy
Well, I like them so much that I own a couple now.
Matt Farah
Oh, do you?
Nat Mundy
I've been buying low miles ones. Yeah. I've got a couple in the warehouse back there. I get low miles. That one matches my BMW motorcycle.
Guest/Producer
So it was pretty funny. You're gonna flip them eventually in 30 years when diesel gets cheap again.
Nat Mundy
Honestly, I think we'll just continue to put them in places we need them as shop cars like that thing. When we get retired to Florida, we'll leave it down there as like the
Matt Farah
get around the wide open throttle guys have the gas powered like 328 eyes. And they use them as track trainers.
Guest/Producer
Sure.
Matt Farah
And they don't do anything to them. They just change the oil and like they're fine and they just.
Guest/Producer
You just.
Matt Farah
They run them for eight hours a
Nat Mundy
day and I think, I mean remember the TDI cup when Volkswagen did that? I wanted to be in that so bad, but I was like 10 years older than like the entry. Had to be. You had to be 22.
Guest/Producer
Put one of these in lemons, you're ready.
Nat Mundy
It would have been great.
Guest/Producer
Yeah. You could still do it. Yes, you could.
Matt Farah
Probably. Yeah, you could. You could definitely turn your old one into an endurance race car.
Nat Mundy
A wagon race car.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Guest/Producer
I think Volvo and BMW just did that at the Nurburgring with a couple crazy. The M3 touring. Yeah.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
What about converting one, converting that one with the high miles into like the pickup truck that you've seen with the M3.
Matt Farah
Oh yeah. The one that they did at the factory.
Guest/Producer
That would work, I think the factory one's A2A coupe, but you could still do it. It's Crew Cab. There you go.
Nat Mundy
Be kind of cool.
Guest/Producer
Yeah, it would be cool. Diamond plate.
Matt Farah
You could also just, you know.
Nat Mundy
I plan on driving into the ground, man.
Matt Farah
Folks, one more quick break for Avance. Love these guys. They've been supporting us for years now. Avance is a great company made of great people. We know them individually. It's done through an agency. These are our homies. Avance helps enthusiasts save money and enjoy their passion more. It's actually very straightforward. And the math does work because Avance members get sweet discounts and a nice quarterly print magazine. I would pay for just the magazine itself. We've known Adam from Avance a long time and he put me on the COVID I think, of one of their first issues. And I've really enjoyed getting their magazine for a while. But also here, get this math they hate. Help you save money on things that you're going to buy anyway, like tires, right? An Avants member gets a 10% off discount at Discount Tire, plus an additional 10% if you buy Michelin or BFGoodrich. So if you were going to spend $1,500 on a set of pilot sports, you're going to save $300 just because you're an Avance member. And it's only $99 a year to join. So you're plus 200 if you get just the tires, right? At 1500 bucks, which easily sports car tires could be more than that. And Avance will send you a $70 gift card to Griot's Garage when you sign up so you get the detailing. That way, the membership literally pays for itself, plus the magazine, plus all kinds of cool regional events that Avants does around the country for their members. I've been to a bunch of them. Their Monterey Car Week party is a great time. So you can go to avants.com, a v a n t s.com and then use code TST for 10% off. So that's another 10% off your membership. This thing is basically free. In fact, it could potentially be mucho money saving for you. Avance.com TST use code TST for 10% off. Thank you to Avance for sponsoring the pod.
Nat Mundy
And even when the suspension finally went though, they were like, well, what do you want to replace it with? This is your chance to put in, like, built like a stock OEM, whatever. Did the230,000 miles I want you to put right back in.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
They were like, okay.
Guest/Producer
Yeah. Yeah.
Matt Farah
I bet it felt nice.
Guest/Producer
It's.
Nat Mundy
You should drive it. It's glorious.
Matt Farah
I've driven them before, but I bet it felt nice when it got new shots.
Guest/Producer
Good long distance choice if I was doing like lots of miles. Like Vinnie Russo had one of those. You know, if you're doing a bunch of miles.
Nat Mundy
Yeah, no. It's a rock star of a car.
Matt Farah
But Vinnie got rear ended at like 50 miles an hour. That's why it didn't have anymore.
Guest/Producer
Yep.
Matt Farah
The cargo box survives though when flying over.
Guest/Producer
Huh. Like cuz it flew off the car.
Matt Farah
It flew off the car and now
Guest/Producer
it's on his truck, which definitely needed to be taller. So did you start HK at Monticello? And like, you know, HK was kind
Nat Mundy
of like a 2019 sort of COVID boredom thing. Like a lot of those things. And if a lot of lot stuff we sell also came out of COVID too. You know, these products sort of these brands came up during COVID People sitting around 2019 did a Connecticut dealer's license. We were working with Glickenhaus. We had bought a couple cars and we had commissioned their 709 Le Mans car. So we actually commissioned and owned that car throughout the program.
Matt Farah
Oh, okay.
Nat Mundy
I didn't realize that. So the car that came in third, the podium winning car, is ours.
Matt Farah
You still have it?
Nat Mundy
We do. We road and track rented Coda for us a couple years ago to play with it. Oh, cool. And had an absolute ball. Really, really neat. And then from there just picked up some other brands that were all sort of. A lot of it's resto mod based like you guys experienced today.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I mean it's. And I, and I, we've got about 20 minutes before we have this hard out, but. And I do want to talk about the two cars that we drove today. But like you were, you, you called me and you were like, hey man, I'm gonna get into road cars. Because you were doing. You're just really doing race cars in the beginning, being at the track, which made sense. And I was like, okay. And you're like, I'm gonna do all the brands that nobody else will sell
Nat Mundy
that no one will touch.
Matt Farah
Yeah. You're like. I was like, okay, what? Someone. That sounds like a good idea.
Nat Mundy
Yeah, yeah.
Matt Farah
And it actually was. So what is the portfolio? You have Glickenhouse, Gunther Works.
Nat Mundy
Gunther Works, Chimera, Nardone.
Matt Farah
What's Nardo?
Nat Mundy
The 928 restaurant.
Matt Farah
Oh, the 928 thing, right? Yeah. The soap bar looking kind of.
Nat Mundy
It's. So I get mine delivered at Monterey this year. Okay. Really excited for that car. If you remember, Those came with 5 liter V8s that were slow. They actually made it fast.
Guest/Producer
Sure.
Nat Mundy
Like it's a real car. Really excited about that one. We have Eccentrica.
Matt Farah
That's the Diablos.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Driven. Which is the. Which is the. Which is the Evoluto.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Which is the 355. As well as their sport products.
Matt Farah
I drove the Escort.
Nat Mundy
Everything that requires a donor car we essentially offer. Except for maybe Singer.
Matt Farah
Sure.
Nat Mundy
And I just.
Matt Farah
Well, they don't have dealers.
Nat Mundy
They sort of do. They have dealer partners that do test drives and things. I went with brands that spoke to me that I wanted in the collection, though. I mean, I have to say that like Chimera was a search for a. A crash F40 that we could repaint and make a custom color. And then when you math the math, you're like, I'll be $3 million into something that won't be worth three now. Of course they are. At the time it was like, that's kind of sacrilegious.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
And ended up with a. With a 037 in Verde Avaton green and just absolutely love it.
Matt Farah
The O30. The O37 is sort of like. It is. It's F40s.
Nat Mundy
Yeah.
Matt Farah
It does have a vibe of an F40. It's maybe not quite as sorted, but like you. It's got the same kind of vibe for sure.
Nat Mundy
Everything that we carry is meant to be driven. I feel like, though, because we have some great stuff in the collection that, you know, we're sort of not allowed to drive because God forbid, you know, we. We take something out and it, you know, the HK F40 or 288 gets a blemish that while Nat was driving, you know, 100 people on video got it while I clipped the mirror on the door to a parking garage or something. And then everyone talks about that car forever being. That's the car.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Whereas with these. With these brands we carry, I feel like you could rack it up pretty good. Send it back to Chima or whoever. You'll get a brand new car afterward.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
And it's not going to have this sort of history of negativity, I guess.
Matt Farah
And people do. People care less about the miles and they care less about.
Nat Mundy
And people care less about the miles.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Guest/Producer
Is that because, like, the Camar is so new that it hasn't become investment grade yet or not? Not Investment determined by low miles ever.
Nat Mundy
They've done so well though on the resale secondary markets virtually double from the original msrp. And that's real. And I think that it's just meant to be driven. I mean, you guys drove, you know, a, an advanced prototype 38 today. You know, driving that car for two and a half hours with the current setup might be a little bit more rough than what you'd want. Long run. But I think if someone wants to go for like the ultimate morning hell spin. Yeah, that's the car.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
I mean, it's a chainsaw. It makes all the right noises. Very symphonic, drivable thing, experience.
Matt Farah
It's, it's, it's incredibly overwhelming and intimidating if you are not like used to it and if you don't, if there's a lot of people around, if you don't know where you're going, if you're trying to like, figure out on the fly, it's just like, it's a lot. But at.
Guest/Producer
If.
Matt Farah
If what you're looking for is, you know, to go back to a time where a car made you sort of earn it, that's it.
Nat Mundy
I totally agree, but I think that's also like where I would rather see. I think people are fed up with all the tech in these cars. I mean, we have an SF, SF90, we have a 296. Both of them have had some hiccups, you know, with the hybrid system. All cars seem to have problems here and there. But it's nice to know, like, the simple diagnosis of things. The Chimas and the Gunther works etc can be worked on by a normal shop, you know, on a secondary Keen down the street can take care of both of those cars.
Matt Farah
Really. Like. So. Yeah. Where do you take. That's where you just take a Chimera anywhere. Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Flying doctor. If we have a heavy thing, we. Every car comes with a laptop. If we log into it remotely via someone's wireless and there's some major component, we send in a flying doctor. Otherwise we give instructions and they change the oil and. Or change the alternator. I mean, it's, it's, it's very modular, like a race car. But. Yeah, I never thought I'd be in the position where I'd be selling these kinds of things.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Because they're kind of weird.
Nat Mundy
Yeah. I went from hot dogs to, to.
Guest/Producer
And you never took them like a layover in selling BMWs down the street or like any major dealership when I was.
Matt Farah
You work in a Land Rover?
Nat Mundy
Yeah, when I, When I left Wall Street. I wanted to learn how to hire and fire people. And what better place than work at Land Rover, Right.
Guest/Producer
Where.
Nat Mundy
So at the time they just come out with the.
Matt Farah
With the sports.
Nat Mundy
Was that era that BMW. Tata. Was it Tata?
Guest/Producer
Who is it?
Nat Mundy
Yeah, BMW and Tata, like, handoff.
Matt Farah
Oh, of Land Rover.
Nat Mundy
Land Rover. It was at that time, it was
Matt Farah
like, no, no, wait. It went from BMW to Ford to Ford.
Nat Mundy
That's right.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Because it had the Jaguar motor, Ford before Tata. So it was that time. So we had, like, half the cars we were selling had BMW motors in them still. Half of them didn't. And it was a great time to see kind of how a shop transitioned to different stuff, different technology. That's. That dealership is still in existence, and my buddy Ryan still owns it. And I learned a lot there. I learned really how to hire and fire, but also how to really sell luxury product. What I realized about Land Rover was that the typical Land Rover Range Rover customer just recycles. They just come back in.
Matt Farah
They just get the next one.
Nat Mundy
It's the next one. Like, literally the time the oil change is due, you'll see it just, like, dropped off and the new one comes back in. Yeah, but, yeah, that was. That was my only stand in car sales before this. And during. During COVID we had picked up Glicken house, and I took the gold car, which had gone up the hill at Goodwood the year before, and I put it in my trailer and my dog Guinness, and I drove around the country with a motorcycle on the bed of the truck, the. The car in the back of the trailer, and just did traveling salesmen everywhere. So I went down to Florida, down over to New Orleans, to Texas twice, back and forth into the sort of southeast corridor during the winter and sold cars. Wow. Wow.
Matt Farah
Just bringing it to, like, individual customers.
Nat Mundy
Yeah. Guys that had reached out, people that we knew would be interested and sort of, you know, went door too, like. Like an old school investment banker and
Matt Farah
sold out of that car covered in alligator or something.
Nat Mundy
That. That. That interior sitting in a crate downstairs right now.
Matt Farah
Crazy.
Nat Mundy
It does have a black interior now with some gold stitch. We've brought it.
Matt Farah
I remember they pulled this thing out. I was like, holy. This interior. I was alligator.
Nat Mundy
It was.
Matt Farah
It was crocodile. Ostrich. Ostrich.
Nat Mundy
Ostrich. And I'm about meeting you to drive that car because that was like a true. That was a really interesting analog experience. And that car is now at Roush, where Glickenhaus is producing the cars. Getting brought up to Crash tested spec.
Matt Farah
Yeah. When are they actually, actually just going to start delivering those cars?
Nat Mundy
So car 7 is in build currently. That's going to a mutual friend of ours. And then car 4 is a factory prototype that they're building up. They'll do further testing with and get as many miles on as possible. And then every 35 days they'll be pumping out a car or two as they ramp up. But Roush motors, are they using LT4?
Matt Farah
That's the supercharger.
Nat Mundy
Supercharged 650 horse.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Matt Farah
From the Z06.
Nat Mundy
Correct. The old zo with a, with a chima six speed.
Matt Farah
Sure.
Nat Mundy
So just a. You know they can handle a lot more power.
Guest/Producer
It's.
Matt Farah
It's a sequential.
Nat Mundy
No, it's a, it's a gated manual.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Nat Mundy
And three, is that the same.
Matt Farah
The same six speed transaxle as Pagani uses in the Utopia?
Nat Mundy
I believe so. It was theirs. And it's the, it's originally a helicopter transmission of some sort.
Matt Farah
Oh yeah, it is, yeah.
Nat Mundy
So it's got some, it's got proven to like take a ton of abuse and we're not worried about the transmission.
Matt Farah
They do, they did. It was something out of a helicopter.
Guest/Producer
An SSC use that we drove a car that used the helicopter.
Matt Farah
I think that was. SSC was.
Guest/Producer
SSC is automatic.
Nat Mundy
I know that's a robotized.
Guest/Producer
Okay.
Nat Mundy
So it's not fully automatic. Oh, it's doing. The SSCs are robotized transmission.
Guest/Producer
So I think it is the same.
Matt Farah
It might be sema. It might be sema. That sounds. That's where I heard helicopter.
Guest/Producer
The term helicopter transmission doesn't run a lot.
Nat Mundy
They do use it. They do, yeah, yeah, yeah. But those are two of the American brands. And then Gunther works down in Huntington Beach. Ton of fun.
Matt Farah
We just, we just drove the, the slant nose. The F26 which is total weapon.
Guest/Producer
Oh yeah.
Matt Farah
It's actually too much. It's like, it's like I, I love, I love Peter. I love what they do. There is a right amount of power for this car and that is not it. That is too much.
Nat Mundy
I love my Speedster. I have to say. Like I'm a. You know, I had my Targa that I've had forever 77 Targa and the Speedster. You know, the top off never bothered me. We live in an area where we know about rain way in advance. It's not Miami. And that thing for a naturally aspirated engine, it's quietly.
Matt Farah
No, those are. That's the correct one, I think. Yeah, if the weather's right the Speedster is great. But a lot of the Speedsters don't have heat and they certainly don't have windows and it could be a little bit chilly.
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
But if you, and also if you get a drizzle at like 38 miles an hour you get nothing in the car that's okay.
Matt Farah
I don't know
Nat Mundy
going.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Roll through some stuff.
Guest/Producer
With the increased traffic here we had you know, a lot of stop and go so that might be a problem. But I think the power balance of this, of the Speedster is really good. And then like the dynamics of the suspension that Gunther works does is also really impressive which the Chimera also had. Like take that road pretty nice.
Matt Farah
The Chimera has a nice ride. It actually felt, you know, the gears feel really short in that car but I think that's actually just cuz it's so loud and you, you almost never get near red line because it feels like the thing's going to eat itself. But it's not. But it just like it's all like
Nat Mundy
I always tell, I liken it to like literally a cat in a blender. It's just so unsettling to us if you're not used to it. I've taken people for rides in that they just think the car's breaking the entire time.
Matt Farah
It's just really, really overwhelming with sensory and it's really a lot of things to think about at a time. And then we also drove this other thing you're doing called a 1511 which is, it's, it's, it's almost you you've gunthered or you've gone some of the way to gunthering a 914 effectively. It's, it's got a sort of integrated rigidity structure. It's not a roll cage but it's like some kind of structure that makes it tight. It's got a four liter water cooled engine. It's a pretty nasty little thing.
Nat Mundy
I think it's, it's probably one of those like in the restomod space right now it's probably one of the better values price wise. With a Porsche badge on it.
Guest/Producer
Sure.
Nat Mundy
You know, or without a badge. How much is it deliver without a badge? 395 quid. So around 550 USD.
Matt Farah
Are you selling in quid?
Nat Mundy
We're in Bedford but it's UK built so you pay them directly.
Matt Farah
Oh I see.
Nat Mundy
So you have to, you know, is it sort of look at yesterday we're in New England. It was about a $33 exchange rate not too long ago. But you know, it's fluctuated.
Guest/Producer
So how much of that car is carbon fiber or new panels?
Nat Mundy
Everything is carbon fiber on that car. Even the door skins on that.
Guest/Producer
Okay. Because you can see the weave through the, like the paint clear. Which is very cool. But do they keep like the original unibody at all? And then all the body panels that go on it are carbon fiber?
Nat Mundy
Yeah, the glide body panels on it are carbon fiber. But the, except the Targa bar, obviously. Right. Targa bar is still steel structure. And then underneath it, if you pop the hood in the trunk, you'll see all the added rigidity and structure they're adding into it. Also, the sills are much beefier.
Guest/Producer
Well, the sills have like a low, almost what you see like on a cage. But like inside that, the front hood is, it's really nicely shaped. The way they've, I guess buttressed and reinforced the wheel wells. I mean that thing handled great.
Matt Farah
It had a very nice ride, very nice steering. I liked the linear power. I don't like the manual brakes. I think it needs to have power boosters.
Nat Mundy
So we make a carbon ceramic for that which has a boosted.
Matt Farah
Yeah, I, I would want a brake booster. I, I Even though the car's light, I, I, I've never driven a car that had any kind of power whatsoever that had manual brakes. Brakes that I thought was a good idea. I'm glad you can get power brakes as some kind of an option. I'd probably include the booster on the
steel brakes that are on it.
Guest/Producer
Yep.
Matt Farah
And then there's a, there's a, there's a weird bit of a, maybe a little hiccuping if you tip into the throttle a little too quickly. So it's a little, a little rough around the edges. But as a concept I liked it a lot.
Nat Mundy
I think the, the fuel pedal you're dealing with is all can bus, soft drive by wire. That's tunable out the I particularly, I like the main, I like the feel of a non boosted brake. If you remember, I had a gray 912 with a 3 liter in it back in the day. Yeah, this is kind of that next generation for me of that. When I was thinking about what I wanted in a car, I liked it more analog. But having driven the one that's in Colorado with the carbon ceramics we just delivered to a customer, that is, I think the better choice.
Guest/Producer
I was just surprised. It's got what Brembo six piston front, four rear, like these Are strong brakes. The car weighs nothing. And even getting real deep in the pedal, I felt like I was never slowing down as much as I wanted to. And I was like, that's surprising for a car that's so light. So either the booster or pad choice or whatever, but, like, look, I mean, as a concept, I mean, it's kind of like your spider at 60. 60% scale. You know, you shrink it a ton. But the seats are good, Position's good, shifting's great, Steering's great.
Matt Farah
Yeah, like is a nice.
Guest/Producer
It's a really nice thing.
Matt Farah
Yeah, it is a really nice thing. I could spend all day in it. It was great.
Guest/Producer
Feels real solid, very tight. Like, no wiggles or anything like that. And then you go over, you know, a lot of the pavement here. Looks like it was arc welded, but the thing just rides really nice.
Nat Mundy
Welcome to west.
Guest/Producer
Yeah, it floats over it. It's good.
Matt Farah
No, it's.
Guest/Producer
It's a.
Matt Farah
It's a very tight little thing that. That's got a lot. I mean, it.
Guest/Producer
It.
Matt Farah
It FL feels like a very solidly made item. Even though the chimera is very nice, when you get back in this thing, which is number one of this car, it's just your first go at it. You go, Porsches are just better.
Nat Mundy
But I always said even our Myers makes anything that's got a flat engine in it of some sort. Seems to be so usable. I can take the gunther works to get groceries. The same thing with the 1511. You don't have to. It's not just to show up to the cars and coffee kind of car.
Matt Farah
No. And you can. In the 1511, you can just let off the clutch without giving it any gas, and it will just creep forward. So you can. In traffic or whatever.
Nat Mundy
It's.
Matt Farah
It's pretty nice.
Nat Mundy
Nice little torquey car.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
Yeah. It is a blast. I was really excited to have met Ben and do that as a JV with them. It's. I think it's a fun project. And everyone who's buying one is like. Like the real deal car guy.
Matt Farah
You kind of have to be. Because you're not gonna impress somebody by telling them that you've spent half a million bucks on a 914.
Nat Mundy
But if you look at 914 history and pedigree, it beat 9 11s in Lamoth.
Matt Farah
But you have to explain that to people, right?
Guest/Producer
Yes.
Matt Farah
They don't know. Just know that I guess that's not a thing. That is standard.
Guest/Producer
They. The 914 hasn't gotten, like, the praise and Marketing boost both from Porsche and from like the community that. Excuse me, that the air cooleds did. You know, starting 20 years ago with like Magnus, they haven't, they haven't had that moment. I think they're starting to. They've had a good showing at the luft events. Like, that section's been growing a lot and there's some really cool stuff there. And when they're turned up a bit, I mean, when, you know, you put the six in them or whatever, like, they're really exciting.
Nat Mundy
The 914 six was a great car to begin with. Like I said, two.2 liters people had two fives like strokers and then two sevens in them. I just feel like going liquid cooled wasn't sacrilegious.
Guest/Producer
I agree.
Matt Farah
I don't think so.
Nat Mundy
Made it more reliable.
Guest/Producer
Yep.
Nat Mundy
And. And cheaper to produce in reality. Less expensive to produce, I should say. And if you look at the. The drivability of that car because of it and it's not carbureted and it's not getting heat soaked and all the things that you'd have with a.
Matt Farah
Although the heat is coming out of the radiators and right into the cabin.
Nat Mundy
Is it.
Matt Farah
Right now it vents out of the. The side. You know, the, the, the side bit there.
Nat Mundy
How's your leg hair doing?
Matt Farah
Oh, no, not, not there.
Guest/Producer
Actually, your legs get cooled because when you turn the AC on, the only vent that seems to emit cold air is aimed at the. It blows at your feet, so it kind of fights with.
Matt Farah
It blows on your feet.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
I think if the target top was on those top vents would actually be
Guest/Producer
producing a. Oh, maybe through the defrost vents.
Nat Mundy
Yeah, you were, you were losing the. All of that was just flying out the door.
Matt Farah
That's hilarious. But I did like, outside of the brakes, which weren't my favorite, I did like how that car drives a lot. I thought the other inputs were very nice and the ride and handling and all that was really good.
Nat Mundy
The, the prototype was. Was loved in the uk. This was the first one for the US and customer cars starting to dropped off. But they are, like I said, the real deal. People like just some amazing customers are that are buying these. They like true Porsche customers and you
Matt Farah
get a nose lift on it. So this one's scrapy a little bit.
Nat Mundy
Did it a little bit. Okay. I mean, I think that's pretty well propped. I mean, obviously on the Gunther works you've got one and you have to use it like super low lip.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Nat Mundy
And then. And the chimera When I picked it up from you guys, it was in full up mode.
Matt Farah
It was in full up mode.
Guest/Producer
Yeah.
Matt Farah
Yeah. Well, we.
Guest/Producer
He.
Matt Farah
We were.
Guest/Producer
I did that when I turned around.
Matt Farah
Yeah, he did it when he turned around afterwards. Yeah. Yeah.
Nat Mundy
No, so I didn't know if you had driven around.
Matt Farah
I'd used it up. Put it up and down a couple of times. Yeah, it does work, actually. I mean, and the chimera is. Is I can't wear shoes in it. My feet.
Nat Mundy
I can't drive shoes on either.
Matt Farah
But once I'm sitting in it, it's actually quite comfortable.
Guest/Producer
Yep.
Matt Farah
I'm glad it has both belts.
Nat Mundy
Those are the comfort seats. And where that came into play was for a shorter guy. It's the only way to get a seat that comes up. Otherwise you're all the way at the pan and on the 1511. We've made the seat actually lower.
Matt Farah
I thought the. The shape of the seat was good. It could always go lower. Yeah. What's up?
Guest/Producer
How are you?
Nat Mundy
Hey, we're just filming something, but can you give me.
Guest/Producer
You are.
Nat Mundy
We're just filming something. I'm surprised the boys didn't say something.
Matt Farah
Give us five minutes.
Nat Mundy
Five minutes. Sorry. Ken, please, please.
Matt Farah
You can go right there. Okay. It happens.
Nat Mundy
Sorry.
Matt Farah
We really. We have. We probably have three minutes actually.
Nat Mundy
You guys.
Guest/Producer
Okay.
Nat Mundy
So you guys are off to go paint Crown Vicks.
Matt Farah
We're gonna go race. Yeah, we're gonna go race with Cletus tomorrow at Stafford Motor Speedway.
Nat Mundy
That's awesome.
Matt Farah
Crazy, you guys.
Guest/Producer
Different experience than the cars today.
Nat Mundy
The last time I raced there was in my. Was in a lemons race. And my entire insurance broker came with us as one of the teammates and crashed our car.
Matt Farah
Wow.
Nat Mundy
So it's like that was the last time I was there. And we back.
Guest/Producer
He's like, hey, will you tell the insurance company that Craigslist existed?
Nat Mundy
We found a Jetta. No, a Golf. We found a Jetta to replace the go a Jetta on Craigslist. Down the road to race to get the engine and transmission out. We had hit the wall. The front prop shaft had gone from through the. The transmission casing and made a hairline crack. So I was leaking oil. So we just picked up a whole engine and a whole car to swap the engine and transmission in.
Guest/Producer
That's lemons.
Nat Mundy
But you guys are gonna love Stafford Springs. It's so old school and so like
Matt Farah
it's a half mile oval.
Nat Mundy
Yeah, I think it's a half.
Matt Farah
Yeah, Yeah. I mean, it's gonna be a show.
Guest/Producer
So Two hours of left. Left turns, man.
Matt Farah
Two lots of left.
Guest/Producer
Next. Gonna be sore.
Matt Farah
Yeah, it's gonna be tough. But thanks, dude. Good to see you.
Nat Mundy
Thank you. Thanks for coming up and visiting.
Guest/Producer
A real quick one. Someone asked what's more essential, essential to a good hot dog? The bun or the meat?
Nat Mundy
Potato bun makes it okay.
Matt Farah
It goes a long way.
Nat Mundy
It does. If you're boiling them, they all taste the same. I'd say potato bun.
Matt Farah
My favorite new method for cooking a hot dog, Spiral. Cut it.
Nat Mundy
Yeah.
Matt Farah
In the Breville, like air toaster, air fryer thing. Like 12 minutes. You get delightfully crispy. It's very nice.
Nat Mundy
I like a butterfly if I'm going to grill it. But the carts are in on Sterno.
Matt Farah
Sure.
Nat Mundy
Because they were used within Shea Stadium, right?
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Gotta upgrade them shits.
Nat Mundy
Well, you guys will have to come back when Greenwich opens.
Matt Farah
Oh, in your show.
Yes.
Nat Mundy
Yeah.
Guest/Producer
You have a new, like, showroom builder.
Matt Farah
You're actually going to have a showroom.
Guest/Producer
You won't always be in front of this.
Matt Farah
Yeah, yeah.
Nat Mundy
366 West Putnam Ave. Across the street from BMW.
Matt Farah
Right next to Ferrari Maserati.
Nat Mundy
Yep. And we're. We're opening up this winter and we'll. We'll have to have you guys come back for that.
Guest/Producer
Cool.
Nat Mundy
Sure.
Matt Farah
We will be there. Thank you, everybody. This is a short, short show, but we have to go to a 311 concert at Jones beach tonight.
Guest/Producer
Yep.
Matt Farah
It's a long way away, Nat. Monday, HK Motor Cars. We appreciate you. See you later.
Nat Mundy
Thanks, guys.
Matt Farah
Bye.
