Yeah, no, thank you so much. It's. It's always fun and annual pilgrimage. Yeah, literally. And I. I had a very. This is a very weird trip for me. I was in Carmel last weekend.

Yeah. So a bit like you. My. My friend got married up in Carmel.

And where were you in between?

I went to Joshua Tree.

To stare at some stars and cry. And then came here and I'm here for a week and then I go back up. All right.

know, we're not going to this year, we're going to Detroit, which is okay.

people have been like, I'm actually kind of jealous.

I don't think you're the only people as well. Like, I've spoken to a lot of Europeans, at least, who are not coming this year. And there were some people at this wedding who I would have thought were sticking around or coming back, and they're like, no, we're not coming either.

Last year, it did feel like at the end of it, it felt like my head might explode. Yeah. And so it's the problem with any

[Sam Fain]

of these events, they sometimes just get too big for their own good.

[Tony]

Sure. They get more and more popular, you know, but. But also, if we get to go year after year after year, they don't change enough, I think, for us. But if, you know, if it's your first time, you'll be excited.

[Zach]

I think you need to go. If you go once every three, that's like, probably, but we get. You get addicted to, like, the invite. And, oh, my God, if I don't go this year, they're not gonna.

[Sam Fain]

Gonna go.

You know how hard it is turn out of Bentley.

[Sam Fain]

And we don't. As British media, we don't get invites to anything. Can we. It's like a different thing. So I had a couple, I went to see McLaren at Goodwood, and they're like, oh, we got something going on. And Jaguar like, oh, we got something going on. I was like, yeah, cool, get me on the invite list. But it's like, come to the party. It's not like, we'll fly you out.

[Zach]

Oh, yeah.

[Sam Fain]

So I can imagine for you guys, that's the golden goose of, like, hospitality.

[Zach]

It's nice for. Especially because, you know, what happens is for us LA people, the cars get up there. You know what I mean? So that we help. We help you help sort of shuttle the cars up there and then tiny trunk, whatever.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah.

[Zach]

If you want to do a little duffel shuffle, it's particularly spicy. But also, like, last year we did it independent and we rented a house and we did all this shit and it cost some money, but there was a level of fun to that that I think was really nice.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah, work and play. You hit a good mix.

[Zach]

Yeah, we really only played. We did very little work. We did almost no work, but it's

[Sam Fain]

hard to work on that.

[Zach]

But then they. But then everything like, oh, let's do that. And there was like, oh, God, that's gotten very expensive.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah, so expensive. But we shouldn't Complain because we often get media invites.

[Zach]

No, it's not a complaint but it's just like if you are going to do the bit where you pay your own way every year, that's a big vacation, you know. Especially you know, we got our house in Detroit. We got five nights in Detroit in a house that would be considered an exceptionally dope car week house for the price of one night.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah. Okay, that makes sense.

[Zach]

Monte Forest is Detroit like back. Cause I, when about 20 years ago when it crashed, me and my friend wanted to buy it.

[Zach]

Yeah, yeah. Cause you could literally go buy a

mansion for like $12,000.

[Zach]

You still, it's not like that but like you still. If one want to buy into Detroit now there's opportunity and like the, you know, like anywhere else there's good neighborhoods and bad neighborhoods and where we're staying is like a super nice neighborhood. Like if you looked at where we were staying like it could be any nice suburb. I liked the country.

[Sam Fain]

I went five years ago, thought it was mega.

[Zach]

Detroit people are mega too. Detroit people are the coolest people. They're nuts. They're hardcore. They build crazy cars. Real hardy people.

Yeah, I drove some mad Hummers out there.

[Zach]

Oh, did you go to mil spec?

[Sam Fain]

Yeah.

Did you drive the Drift Hummer?

[Sam Fain]

I don't know if they had the Drift Hummer. I can't remember. This was 2019, so my memory lose me slightly. But yeah, big like overpowered psychotic H1 Hummers. Yeah, they were super cool. We had a fun day. And then there was a guy there, I'm so bad with names of things. He had a great supercar which got this amazing like FNS door SV roads. I had a great time in Detroit.

Those mil spec guys, they, Marty, they were a good time.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah.

[Zach]

And you know a ridiculous H1 is great when it's someone else's. You know what I mean? Like I don't want this.

[Sam Fain]

Oh yeah. We went for a blast during the day but.

[Zach]

But are they still around? Yeah, they're still up. Yeah. Dude, can you just grab a, grab a photo of the Drift Hummer because

[Sam Fain]

yeah, we did something in like a camo y one.

[Zach]

Yeah.

[Sam Fain]

And it just shot like black smoker diesel life, baby.

[Zach]

The, the Drift Hummer was, you know, because they're, they're mid engine, it's front mid. The whole engine is behind the axle. And actually like the proportions are sort of sports car proportions just like over. When I say that I mean like the width to the wheelbase to where the engine Is it's actually like pretty. And so they had one that had a manually controllable Allison gearbox and like a thousand horsepower. It was rear wheel drive and you could drift it. Oh my God. And in fact I did. Oh, look at that 20, 21.

Yeah. There's no new post.

I don't. I don't know if they kept it up, but it did actually drift. It was pretty sick. Yeah, look where the engine is.

So what have you been driving?

Dude, I have driven. I've the whole time I'm here in the US I've got a Rivian R1T quad. Oh, there.

[Zach]

Yeah. Which you know, that's t truck.

The truck. And so you know me as a Brit, the truck thing is fun. But then everyone talks about Rivian. I don't know how you guys feel, but there's like this hype. There's this kind of. Oh, they look so cool. They look so great. Sort of intrigue and weirdly, a guy I used to work with 15 years ago does their PR in Europe.

Oh, they sell them over there.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah, they're trying to. I don't know if we're quite there yet. And he's going to yell at me now for not knowing this, but I don't see them around so I think they're coming, but it's just not actually there.

[Zach]

Probably the R2. I mean our ones are. They're big. That for Europe. That's a big.

[Sam Fain]

Like that's the first thing I got used to. But the self driving, that's my first.

[Zach]

Oh, this, the steering.

Yeah, dude, on the highway, like that's my first time messing around with that.

Oh, wow. Yeah, on the highway. It's good.

It's unbelievable.

Use it on the highway. Don't get too distracted. Don't try and fuck with it on surface streets.

But have you. But have you used like Ford Tesla?

Tesla's will let you do it and it doesn't do it.

I don't think. I don't think Rivian will let you do it. I think Rivian's only works on freeways. Right.

Have you not tried the systems from GM or Ford or anything?

No, not like nothing because. Oh, we have very limited stuff. At least in the uk, you know, it's all keep your hands on the wheel.

I've not been in a way.

They're getting them in London. They're all.

Yeah, they're all being built. So we see they're being driven at the moment whilst they learn what type of vehicles. Same I pace I paces. What's the new little blue bus thing? They look.

Those are called Zeekr. No, Zoox is a different company. They're. They have little. They have weird little van looking things as well. This one is a Zeeker.

Yeah, it's a cool. Like I'm all here for it makes sense. And especially. And this sounds so derogatory as a Brit visiting here, but I don't trust LA drivers. But I do trust Waymo.

They're all armed.

Yeah. And they just don't seem to be paying that much attention. Maybe because of the self driving thing.

You don't trust a Waymo?

[Sam Fain]

I. No, I trust a Waymo more than a driver stop sign, a T junction, anything like that.

Yeah.

I am always double guessing a person in a car.

[Tony]

Sure.

[Sam Fain]

When I'm here. But if I say oim, I'm like okay, it's kind of.

[Zach]

I like that's what, that's what Seinfeld says. He goes. I love a Waymo because I know if I cut it off it sees me. Which is like in the perfect Seinfeld way. It's like the right number of words for the joke.

I kind of.

[Zach]

I do trust most of the time. I Do trust a waymo and I trust being around them on my motorcycle more importantly. But I did watch one the other day go most of the way through turning into the wrong way down a one way street before like. And then like hard about facing and going back the correct way. It's actually the first time I've ever personally witnessed one doing something that was like really unsafe.

[Sam Fain]

Sure. Okay.

[Zach]

And I'm sure there's data and I'm not trying to claim like, you know, this is just an anecdote of something I personally witnessed. And after watching these things run around my fucking neighborhood for what, two years now is by far the most dangerous thing I've seen.

By far.

Yeah. Which is relaxing because you know, I see crazy people doing crazy things.

You know, it's really fun to watch is when there's a big cars and coffee in a shopping center.

Waymos don't know about this. Okay. And so if they're trying to drop somebody off at like a store or something, they will just like roll into a car and like have no idea what's going on.

Revit and just like stop.

[Zach]

Like, like freak the fuck. Shut shit down. Like they're not ready for that.

Do they talk to you when you get inside? Does it have a voice? I want it to have a voice.

[Zach]

No, it has like a. You know, close the door and press this. Put your seatbelt shut.

Like your name, your name is on the center console just to make sure that you were getting in the right car.

Because it'd be fun if it was like an Uber and you could set the conversational.

No, dude. The biggest drawback to me about Waymos is that that last bit of conversation that you need to have with a taxi driver. Such as it's right around back. Sure. You know what I mean?

V12 Ferraris are like kind of like that. They're not like inspiring to drive hard until you get to like the 812 and shit.

The only good thing about the new cars in Formula one is they are so spread out in like this terrible, sad parade these days. Like by lap 20, you know, it's. Everyone is spread out around the whole track, but they're quiet, so you can just talk the whole time.

Yeah. It was this year I took my three and a half year old daughter first time going to the F1 and we sat in the grandstand. And of course, like by lap two, she's kind of bored, so she's like, I'm gonna do some drawing, but tell me when the cars are coming because I want to like, wave. So she'd stand up and she'd wave at the cars. They'd go by. She'd sit back on. By the time she'd take. Taken the lid off, I was like, oh, they're coming around. She'd stand back up, wave, and then you're right. But like lap six, I like, just stay standing up.

Yeah. Everyone's nine seconds and then it's 15 seconds and then Cadillac and then stroll.

Every car, Every car. She has her favorites, but she. Anyway, she's just waving at all of them.

And the cars are all really prepped identically and so it is very, very difficult to make passes if you don't drive like a complete cockback. Sure. And like use other. Like you basically use other cars. Like you would drive like you would in video games.

Oh, my God, like what? Like, you know, Jean Carliff is a killer and Sam Bird and I don't know, James Collardo. Like, me and Fassbender were like, all right, what are we, like, what's going on here? So as the nonsense, we're like, oh, let's hang out. We get to the starting grid. I think I'm, like, fourth, and he's, like, seventh. We launch off and, like, I'm doing this.

You could do some like sports car safari like we have. We have here. Like they're called backcountry discovery routes and they're downloadable GPS routes and physical maps where you can cross whole states off road.

You can link a bunch of them together so you can go from basically Mexico to Canada.

Doesn't even have to be a well. Like, honestly, if you went out there in a, a brand new like Forerunner or a Wrangler or a Bronco, like just off the rack. Not even a crazy option.

There's like this many gas stations and this many places to sleep and.

Oh, and I would like. You know, for me, I would just do some silly build, even if it wasn't mechanically, that just. But, you know, have some jerry cans with me and stuff like that.

You don't need much.

I never don't want to.

You want to look. I just mean in terms of actual mechanical changes. You can make it look crazy, but just like a mild lift and protective skid plates and the right tires, and you're there.

[Sam Fain]

So I took the 360 to Morocco. We did a. We did a couple of little tweaks on that. Just raised it a tiny bit. Little under protection and added a fan on the intake. And it was totally fine.

[Zach]

Totally intake.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah. Because it was getting super hot.

[Zach]

Yeah.

[Sam Fain]

So just like, additional fan with an extra clip. Oh, just one of the temps got too high.

Where'd you go to Morocco?

[Sam Fain]

All over. So I took the ferry from Spain, went in. Whatever. I'm gonna. I say I'm bad with names. Tangier. And then went east through to Fez. And that's Mag. Is that top part is all green. It's super. It's like countryside, farmers. Really beautiful. And then straight down from there in towards the Sahara, then up and over the Atlas this into Marrakesh. And then up the. Up the coast. Best of my entire.

[Tony]

Did you get mobbed because people don't see?

[Sam Fain]

Nope. I love that country. The people were amazing. Everyone's like, oh, how'd you feel? Safe. I've never met friendlier people.

[Tony]

Oh, I meant just because the car was special, not because of danger in a fun way.

[Sam Fain]

Kids at petrol stations, things like that. And, like, you'd rock up at a desert hotel. And the guy was like, oh, my God. I don't know why. Accident. I shouldn't do that. But, yeah, it was just. It was just, like, cool. It was really special and fun. Fun memories with the car and beautiful country. Like, insane country.

[Zach]

So I'd really like to go back there. I was only there for the two days for that Dakar trip, but I really liked.

[Sam Fain]

Well, so where I ended up was just where you were for that. That was. That's really cool.

[Zach]

And weirdly, Tenerife was all right. That place is sweet. Yeah, it's my.

[Sam Fain]

I'm sort of annoyed that you posted about it because I was like.

[Zach]

So I was like, oh, yeah, me,

[Sam Fain]

sure.

Fifteen flights to get there. It's gonna be the next goodbye.

[Sam Fain]

I get so many people who dm me who go there, like, just rent some, you know, it can't go up just because I've been.

[Zach]

That volcano is. That's the fucking road.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah. I did a video with the 360 there and literally I went up and I filmed two days and two mornings in a row for sunrise, and until 9am it's empty.

[Zach]

Yeah.

[Sam Fain]

From sunrise to 9am there is not a soul there. And the best part is they have sort of park race rangers, supposed to be no drones and things like that. And, you know, when you get to the lunar surface, you know that part. I'd stopped and I'd gone for a little bit of a hike and I was getting the drone and this ranger pulls in and they're the nicest guys. There's no one up there.

[Zach]

Yeah.

[Sam Fain]

And there's this Ferrari and then some guy, like, walking around the rocks and it comes over and I just, like, had the drones put in my pocket. It's like, this is a beautiful car. What are you doing? And I said, oh, I'm just, you know, having a drive, because. Okay, I'm gonna watch you drive away.

[Zach]

Hello.

[Sam Fain]

Great.

[Tony]

Yeah.

[Zach]

I think in that same example, exact spot where you pull over and it's like flagstones or whatever, it's kind of hard to get in. There was a group of kids there and I did like a launch in front of them and they, like, lost their shit. It goes from, like, lush, almost Hawaii to like Mars or the moon.

[Sam Fain]

Yes.

[Zach]

And then back over the other side. It's like Pikes Peak all the way down.

[Sam Fain]

I don't know which way up you went, but the. That's the best way is if you. If you come down that Pikes Peak, like, unbelievable road. Because you think, oh, I've done it. That's got to be the end. And I got the best clip. I don't know where, if I've still got it. A pro cyclist, like a Tour de France cyclist called Yan something was training. Doing a training camp.

[Zach]

Yeah.

[Sam Fain]

And I blast past him and he films it. So I was doing this freaking all day filming. I get this clip when I get home of me and then. This beautiful road.

[Zach]

That's awesome. Yeah.

[Sam Fain]

Tenerife is.

[Zach]

I met a local at the top of that hill, hill above the clouds, who was on like a jixer who was like, you want to follow me down? I was like, yes. And he was like, dragging knees. He was really on it. You know, I had a thousand horsepower, but he had the local knowledge and he. We had a nice little time.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah. Locals really, they, you know, there's some good car.

[Zach]

They are very pretty. They're very fortunate if they get to live there. I mean, just for that road, it's pretty kick ass.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah, I would, I would do that.

And unlike Reg, you know, main quote, mainland Spain, I actually saw quite a few sports cars there. I did not see sports cars in Spain so much.

[Sam Fain]

No, you, you don't see. You never see a sports car in Spain. We just did a recce for one of our driving tours and we drove for, you know, three or four days through Spain. You're like, I. You don't even see like a sporty hatchback. You don't see anything.

[Zach]

Like it's just there, the motorcycle. It's weird considering how good their roads are.

[Sam Fain]

But then, yeah, Tenerife, there's a few, you know, nice cars knocking around. People go there to retire and stuff.

And I saw, we saw, I saw an Aventador.

I don't think I. I didn't get out of it clean, but it didn't. Didn't sting. I had 18 months and moved on. Okay. Because once they get to that kind of value. 40, 45. Mine was insanely well spec, like burmester and all the kind of bits and bobs, massage seats, everything. I think I lost a couple of grand.

But it was fine. And then everything was covered under warranty. I sold it with six months, so I would have one again. Just not. Not a hybrid.

Cadillac, Cimarron, Burgundy. Are there large differences in car enthusiasm and preferences between the UK and Europe or the us or has the Internet bridged the gap and made everyone largely aware of and like the same stuff? Do they get trucks? Oh, no. Do they get our truck culture in the uk?

[Sam Fain]

No. We're suddenly SUV fanboys. We don't really have trucks. We've got the Ranger Raptor. But trucks are still seen as actual utility vehicles. And. And yeah, it hasn't really crossed over into being personal vehicles all that much. And, you know, we're still, we're still on the comedown from Clarkson Hammond in May where we all think American cars are shite. Do you know what I mean? Like. Like the mass consensus is they're sh. You know, there cannot be a good American car.

[Zach]

Yeah.

I think the thing which I've always banged my drum about is that we as Brits inherently stick to our sort of clans and our groups. We're still quite bad at the mass cars and coffee where the guy in the Mark 4 Golf is talking to the P1 owner. We're still quite bad at that. It's getting better. But we have the McLaren Owners Club, the Ferrari owners club, the salon prive supercar event.

[Zach]

Is it because it's classist or it's just because it's secondary a little bit by taste.

[Sam Fain]

It's a snob thing for sure.

So it's not an age thing. It's like, like here I think you can go to a car show and someone who's 35 and bought a McLaren or a Ferrari will still talk to someone who's 25 and has a hatchback or a rabbit or GR86 because they're like, oh, I drove it. I was exposed to everything when I was younger. Is it not like that there?

[Sam Fain]

I apologize if I'm misquoting him, but Philip Caffrey machine once told me story that I think on one of their early weekends, a guy in a pista rocked up and they turn away. He's like, we're full. And he's like, what do you mean you're full? I've got a pista. It's like cool.

Yeah, but I think, yeah, in the UK we're not, we're not great at that. If you've got a fancy and there's a, you know, there's a club called Supercar Driver who are amazing. I love those guys. It's one of the best supercar owners events companies in the uk. But you look at their main event of the year, which they call the secret meat, which is the lowest secret

secret meet ever, right?

And lydia, I mean 10,000 people attended. If you turn up in a beautiful PTS GT3, you're like the sixth car park at the back. You're walking half a mile to get into the event because it is just one of one, you know, F1 GTR long tails that ran at Le Mans. Like so we're bad at that. I kind of wish one year they'd be like, we're doing the secret meeting. At the front is a996 4S just

to be like there's these, these young guys here in LA that are running these, these. They're not secret, but they're invite car meets called Treasure State, which is kind of funny because Montana is the Treasure State.

[Sam Fain]

Sure. And.

And they do actually a pretty good job of. Of making it a spread of, you know, things that are interesting and affordable

combined with it needs to be interesting. I don't think. Let's not let you know. But anyway. But apart from that enthusiasm is equally as high.

Some could argue that the success of the Porsche 911 is consistency, while the Ford Mustang's success is Adaptability. Okay. The Mustang fundamentally changed to meet consumer expectations over time. Almost killing the Mustang at least twice is pretty well known. I wonder if there was a time in Porsche's history where Porsche considered discontinuing the 911. Yes. Yes, the 928. Yeah, I was gonna say the 928 is widely known. I don't mean to say that condescendingly, but, like, yes, the 928 was gonna replace the 911 for sure.

And it was outrage. And that's why, like, the 911, like, didn't change all through the 80s and then into the 964. Really? Because, like, they were gonna kill it.

I would argue that both the 911 and the Mustang are consistency versus adaptability. I think the Mustang has changed shapes more than the 911, but outside of that, like, Mustang's been a pretty consistent offering position and offering in their formula of what they deliver. It's been pretty consistent.

And I think they both have to adapt a little bit to stay with modern Joneses. You know, the 911 has, like, still NA engines available, depending on the trim, but they still have to, like, find ways to keep bringing customers in when they don't make huge changes. So they tweak things here and double wishbone there.

This in that? Yeah, two GS, one Cupra. Recently took a trip to the Cotswolds. Shocked to see Range Rovers towing and not just broken down in central London. That's just all the Clarkson impersonators. Now there's a whole economy of Jeremy

I mean, I recall. I think it was. I forget whose book it was, but it was specifically because you could pop the top. It was the best camera car of all Time. Because you could pop the top half of the clamshell tailgate and the bottom half had the number plate on, so you could still drive around legally displaying your lumber plate and filming. And when the bottom one, they. The new one, they opened, like, together, and he. They were like, no more.

Do you remember the Freelander where you could put the rear window down? That's another one. So the tailgate stays closed, but you just put the window for us.

What other stereotypes about American cars have you found to be similarly rather wrong?

Yeah, because. Because. Well, actually, no. I mean, if Tony was here, he'd say that range of his always break down. But I do think they're more reliable than Americans think. I do see a lot of. I mean, the obvious stereotype is either interior quality or that they can't go around corners. And I've driven a ton of American cars that go around corners really well. So I think that's the easy concern. I was never going to turn. I can't turn. But I. I dispute that. But I do think. And the. So I really like the Rivian, and I've grown to enjoy it a lot. But when I first got in it, my very initial reaction was like, in terms of. Against a European. Is it. Is it a luxury vehicle or premium vehicle?

[Zach]

They're expensive.

[Tony]

Yeah.

[Zach]

Oh, yeah.

[Sam Fain]

Just. And I can't really put my finger on it exactly, but it felt more like I was stepping into a Kia, Hyundai rival than a Range Rover, Mercedes, BMW rival.

I'll say this. If it was the year 2021.

And you got into one of those. When I got into one of those, I was like, all right, this splits the difference between a Cadillac Escalade and maybe not a Range Rover, but like a BMW or a Mercedes. Sure.

Oh. And I think it looks super cool. There's so much I really like about it, and I like Driving it. But also, I couldn't. It wouldn't tell me the range. Just tells me the percentage of the back battery.

I drove this. The new. The new C8 Grand Sport Corvette with a fully loaded interior about three days after driving the 849 Testarossa.

And I was like, one of these is not any better than the other. It's this. Yeah, it's the same. It's the same. I think the leather quality is basically the same. The screens, buttons, and things. Same.

Okay. It's the same. So they go. But there's my stereotype.

And one isn't carbon. They're both aluminum. The structure feels the same. Like, this really was a point for the Corvette there, honestly. Oh, yeah. We have more.

It is not a $700,000 driving experience. Like you're just going to be let down. So I think it will soften a bit, but I think everyone's taking a step forward and then let's see what happens.

It does also it sort of reflects on like how kind of little people are really interested in Ferrari's new product.

I mean, very good point.

You know, the cars get more and more expensive the further back you go until. Until about 2010 and then they go down again. You're like, what the fuck? What is going on here? So mad.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah.

And so, you know, I think people maybe are realizing like having a hybrid system in a car like this is kind of silly. Having a car that's so fast that it doesn't matter that it's faster because you can't go any faster is a little silly. And they're a little less engaging maybe than they were.

But before, for reference, two years ago, a red on tan 360 Spider with fewer miles than you just said manual went for $90,000 on cars and bids. So basically a bunch of them were under 100 grand two years ago, which is normal.

[Zach]

If you were going to spend over 150 on a spider, it was going to get you crazy. Good color, crazy options, everything. Everything. And so yeah, and there. And Sam is right. It's, It's a fabulous $150,000 driving experience. If you have 150 and you can get one of these.

Panic stop at the disc brakes. That name seems to be evolving nicely. I got cold feet bidding on a 987.1 Boxster S as my first Porsche after digging into boar scoring. Coming from old BMWs and currently a C6 Corvette. Do you have any experience with it being as big of a deal as people make it out to be?

[Sam Fain]

Not a big deal.

I think it's a low percentage issue. Yeah, I think, like the ims. It's a low percentage.

It's a low percentage. Get it checked. It's not as bad as people make out. Of course, if you get burned, you're gonna make a whole story about it and you're gonna make a lot of noise about it. But there's. If you're not burnt, you're not gonna talk about it.

You can get it checked in a ppi, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Full score inspection. It's usually a little expensive and you have to go somewhere they're willing to kind of do it because it's time and money. But, yeah, get it checked. And, hey, look, I bought my996. Had some scoring but was fine. I bought it with a little tiny bit of scoring and it was rocking and rolling. I didn't, you know, but don't be so scared.

[Zach]

Yeah. Just get it. I mean, it just. It's. It's money, which makes it math. So, like, factor it into the math to, like, have it checked, and if you buy one that's good, it's good for sure. Jared said, oh, sorry. Talking cylinder heads. Excluding things like Singer and Gunther Works, what is the most Ship of Theseus car you've ever seen or driven? More like privately owned or modified. Ship of Theseus is where you go, oh, this is actually a 1987 Porsche 911, but you look at the car and is very clearly not okay, you know, and there's a piece of metal this big with a vintage tag on it that goes back to some car somewhere.

I mean, I think a lot of those cars where they just. They cut the VIN out where they find the thing in the ocean.

And they go, but we took the VIN from this old Bugatti and we rebuilt the entire thing. Yeah, but it's a Bugatti or the cheap version, I would say Exocet.

[Sam Fain]

Bit of a curveball.

But if you do an Exocet with some aftermarket control arms, like, well, the whole structure of the car is gone.

Or what about one of those factory 581 8. That's really like a WRX taken apart and put back together in reverse.

I don't know if those are if that is continues to be registered as a. As a what? Or anything what it actually, my Myers Manx is a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle and I fucking assure you it is not. There is. There is like a piece of metal like this big. Everything else is completely new. Revology Mustangs have in numbers from real cars. And they are completely new cars that have no. You've seen them.

But like that goes to a car somewhere, but I never seen it.

Jared said the Stig. Our old pal Ben Collins put out a track video with a Carrera Jeff trying to set a faster lap than he had in the past with modern tires. He theorized the old suspension was too tired to effectively push the car. Doug said this validated his decision to update and upgrade the suspension on his Carrera gt. Is updating old car suspension to more modern hardware a common practice? And have you ever considered it for cars that you've had? It's probably a more common practice than you've think.

[Sam Fain]

Yeah, I would think so. So Tuttle are just doing this for Carrera GTs now whether that's something I'm supposed to be telling people or not, I don't know. But my friends got CGT and they've. They've just done a full rework on the rear suspension and transformed the car, apparently. Yeah, it's. And yeah, I think so. Even just small bits that you can do. Just, you know, even like ball joints, things like that can make a big difference to modernized components.

[Zach]

Well, I think there was a suspension recall of some kind.

[Sam Fain]

Yes. And.

[Zach]

And then Doug got whatever they offer, I think. I don't know if it was at the dealer, but they offer it as an OEM plus post pull like that thing.

[Sam Fain]

Okay.

[Tony]

They recall because of the spherical ball joints and the suspension could fail from damage due to mechanical stress or corrosion.

[Sam Fain]

All right.

[Zach]

And then he did an upgrade. But I've heard of multiple different upgrades. But these cars are now 20 years old, so you're gonna have to do bushings in them. And anyway, for sure.

[Sam Fain]

And I think, you know, a lot of time that's where differences can be made. Right. Is to suspension componentry in terms of ride and quality and feel. Yeah, I, I. More common than you would think.

[Zach]

Yeah.
