Hank Green did a great video analyzing this. He's like, they said that they. I mean, first of all, part of his staff said the tariffs were not a negotiation, but he said they are. But this is a great point. Like, all right, let's say the tariffs are there to bring manufacturing to the US and they start building a new factory here. But then the country negotiates itself and gets rid of the tariff that caused the factory to be built in the first place.

Super. And then I almost got fucking T boned by some college kids in a Hyundai up in the Crest. No, in the city. And like, look at this car. Imagine T boned. Like, imagine the shame if you T boned a car that looked like a literal safety barrier.

There's no worse day than T boning an orange Bentley because you can't tell the police you didn't see it. And your insurance says you hit what it costs. How much?

You were going across intersection.

I stopped before. He wouldn't have hit. Okay, but like, I see so many T bones happen here that at every major intersection. I'm double checking. Also from motorcycling, you know, that's like a habit. So I saw this dude coming and I stopped and he. Like, I was in the intersection, but it wouldn't have been a crash. Cause I stopped short enough. But like, I gave him this look of like, you think about what you've just done because like the thing you just hit would have been exactly what you just said.

You know what's amazing? That works when someone's a teenager or you're a teenager. The shame of an adult and near danger or near accident. Yeah, like, I remember that. Sticking as a youth. And then once you become an adult, as we know from politics, shame doesn't work as well.

How do you not see this? Yeah, someone ran a red light right by my house a few mornings ago and. And they had a lot of time to like, my light went green. And I usually wait one second just in case someone's doing what they're doing. And this white Taurus wagon, you know, 96 with no front bumper and doors, just goes across in big I don't give a fuck mode. And like, that's a person who wouldn't have kicked.

You hear the lack of bushings. Everyone knows that sound as it goes across the intersection. Just the clatter.

One of the best tricks, I think my dad told me this when I was learning to drive, is for intersections at nighttime. If you watch for headlight movement where you shouldn't see it, that's a good trick if you're a new driver or whatever, or especially on a motorcycle.

Also nighttime mountain roads.

Very true, 100%.

You see the headlights coming long before the car, actually. So anyway, this is Burr speed. It's giant and it's orange. It's very comfortable. And it's got that same Panamera Turbo SE hybrid powertrain, 750 horsepower. So you know what's so funny about this? The GT speed hybrids, which I love so much. I've gotten to drive them extensively, twice now. Both times involved racetracks and like, sliding them. Admittedly, not something that regular people are doing in their Bentleys, but something that really does demonstrate how like, balanced they. They are and. And what they can do agility wise with the weight. Right.

Never a more journalistic data point. Yeah, that will never be explored by the owner. But I understand what you're saying.

Yeah.

And I would do the same thing.

Yeah, of course, if you could. You should. I highly recommend it.

So with the spur, like, A, I didn't go to a racetrack, and B, look at. Why would I go to a racetrack? I'm absolutely not going to a racetrack with this vehicle. And so also, it's way longer. The wheelbase is longer. It's a huge car. And rear steer does go a long way with these big sedans when it comes to making them feel a little smaller, but the actual length of it, I don't know if it's because of the hybrid battery in the back and the weight difference and whatever, but that second, it has a slight secondary vibration that's just from its size that almost everything that big has from big SUVs and stuff like that. Pickup trucks. But like the GTs and coupes and stuff don't have it. And so it has that, which makes it feel like just a little less solid and fucking amazing than the coupe. And I don't think the extra power that comes from the like, the fact that it's 750 horsepower versus 500 horsepower makes no difference whatsoever because that's not how you're driving it, except very, very rarely. The fact that it has like almost 50 miles of usable EV range means that like I drove it in electric like 90% of the time. And an electric Bentley, while still very nice and comfortable and incredibly well made and smooth and quiet, is not as special as a Bentley like engine, even if that engine comes from Porsche and is tuned.

That's interesting because we've talked about how with Rolls Royce, an EV makes the most sense.
Matt Farah
It does.
Zach Klapman
The whole objective of that is to be as smooth as possible. And Bentley, I feel like, has also tried to be very smooth but always kept a little bit of that. Sporty.
Matt Farah
It's gotta be sporty. Yeah. No, in like sport mode, when it's using, it's fabulous. And so like, it's like, it's great at like everything. Like, this car doesn't do anything poorly. You get in it, you sit down, you hit start, which is right by the shifter. And start, it comes on speed, turns around, and it always starts in EV mode. If you have battery, you can quickly click out of that if you want, but that's the default. All right. It starts, the radio comes on, the climate control comes on. I put on my seatbelt, I'm there, I'm settled in. I plug in my phone to the charger. That process takes, I don't know, four or five seconds. It's powered up, and because it's EV mode, the car doesn't start. I go to put the shifter into reverse, and it doesn't go in reverse, and a thing pops up, and it says, start engine to select a gear. And you then have to press the start button again, but not always. Only sometimes. Can't figure it out. Clearly not normal, because I would have noticed this in 2000 miles of driving the coupe if this is normal. So this car's got, like, 7,000 miles on it. Might be early build, might be a little wonky, but, like, that was annoying, and I hope that's not normal. I don't think it is, but it was happening. And then that. I just think that, like, if you want the. The limousine bit, either the gas 1, the V8 one with less. Less power is more than fine. It's. That's a fast car still, and it saves some weight, and I think it might not have that extra little shake in it from the. From the extra mass or, like, hold out for some kind of electric limousine. Just pure electric. I don't. I don't think it's. The hybrid system serves the sedan in the same way it serves the coupe, even though it's, like, effectively the same car.

Just with that especially, I mean, do you like the hybrid version of the Panamera? Because it has that duality. Interesting.
Matt Farah
And. I don't know. Maybe. I don't know. It goes to show you that most of this job is vibes.
Zach Klapman
Yeah. I mean, it's extremely subjective because, I mean, I look at it and I go, okay, you drove it around in EV mode a lot.
Matt Farah
A lot.
Zach Klapman
So that speaks to how enjoyable the EV experience is, I think, for daily driving, because you have the city, certainly in the city, and you're like, why use it?
Matt Farah
It also shows you how little horsepower you actually need in your day. And by the way, the ev, you know, the E motor in this car, just like the Panamera is in the gearbox. So you have gears, it's an E motor, but you can feel it going through all of the gears. And so you can drive in EV mode up to like 90, 100 miles an hour if you've got the battery. And because it's got those gears, it's not like oh, in the city it's efficient and in the highway it's inefficient. It's actually pretty efficient on the highway for an electric car. Like for an electric powertrain. Pretty surprising how much is it inefficient or. No, it is pretty efficient given its weight and all that. Like it's. I'm not measuring miles to kilowatt hour, but it's like the range of the electric powertrain is enough that for many people you could drive it around in only electric and the gas engine would never have to come on.

And is that the problem with this, where the engine is enjoyable and part of the Bentley kind of image? But if you just drive around the city all the time, you probably get used to the EV and then you have this engine you're not using.
Matt Farah
I think maybe I'd rather have either. And this is. They probably tear their hair out me saying this. I think I'd rather have an electric Bentley with a range extender that had like full power, electric, fast, you know, Taycan based, but Bentley. Right. That gave me 200 miles and had a small but smooth range extender that would allow me to continue driving at some limited power level. You know, 300 horsepower for indefinitely or a fast gas one. I'd like to have those both. Rather than have a 50 mile one that then has a big gas engine. But that's just me. And they probably don't need to make that.
Zach Klapman
I mean, I'm laughing because I'm kind of. It's like this kind of gives you both almost. And you're unhappy with that solution.
Matt Farah
Which is weird because in the Coupe it's totally fine, right?
Zach Klapman
Exactly. Like that is confusing.
Matt Farah
It is confusing. And maybe it's only because the circumstances in which I drove them were so much different.
Zach Klapman
Probably that.
Matt Farah
Yeah.
Zach Klapman
Because if you, if you only drive this thing around the city and you never get to get on a highway on a long drive or go fast, you don't get to enjoy that engine.
Matt Farah
Can you look up the weight of this? Yeah, the coupe is much more dynamic than this. It really is. The added weight, the added length of this. It's fast for a big sedan, but the coupe is fast. Like, period. The coupe is a much faster vehicle on a windy mountain road for sure than this. This also didn't have ceramic brakes, which does sort of go a long way when you have 750 horsepower. Like, I probably wouldn't get a speed without ceramic brakes, even though they're comically expensive. I think there's $16,000 on a Bentley to get ceramics. But this car is so heavy and it's so much horsepower.

Well, the coupe merchants said the coupe is £5,400. Yes, it is.
Matt Farah

Yeah, that's a lot. You know, with 750 horsepower is enough to make that much weight scoot. But without the ceramic brakes, I think it's. You can't get into the corners so much. Oh, look, that. That is definitely.

I don't either. And I think that's the reason that they're still kind of under the radar, is that they're not that exciting to drive. And you can get like a contemporary E55 for like only a couple thousand bucks more than one of these. And I think that has at least some of the pedigree. Whereas, you know, if like these are like cool like gearhead cars. Like if Zach was like, yo, look at this thing I got as a daily. And it was like this would make a cool like run around daily. But it's not exciting.

It does, you know, it's missing the Autobahn. Like, you know, je ne sais quoi. Like the big sedans have the E55AMG. Like you look at that. It looks fast, it sounds fast, it is faster. And this, if you look at it, it's surprising. It has a V8 in it.

Yeah. Red zed says if I want to park 40 to 50k in a watch for a. What am I buying? If you don't care about wearing it, if you care about wearing it, you should buy a watch you want to wear. That's first and foremost. Buying a watch you don't want to wear. Okay. You want to store value, fine investment in terms of guaranteed appreciation. Not a great idea. But you did say park. Park is the right word. That's the right word if you consider it money in, money out. And you can buy it without paying a lot in taxes that you'll never see again. That's why like the taxes and like maybe a service. That's why you want to get some enjoyment out of the watch. So you still, even if you're not going to wear it much, you still want to like, want something you want to wear. 40 to 50,000. It's got to be a Rolex, AP or Patek. A three hand Royal Oak is a great place to start. AP Royal Oak, a great big red Daytona, early Daytona, a great Zenith Daytona, a great vintage Submariner is a great place to start something that's just like people will always want if you want to be able to get your money back out. Something that's like a known quantity and also that kind of Money you should be buying from an incredibly trusted source. You can't fuck around with something like that. IsthatAbuick says, what is your favorite car related activity? Driving Canyons, Grand Touring, racetrack cars and coffee, man, that's tough. Love them all. That's like when people saying, what's your favorite car to drive? What's yours, Zach? Could you even have a favorite?

I think, I think racetrack if I had to because I think the other things are like driving in the canyons is a supplement to racetrack driving. Not in terms of speed, but it's performance driving. So I'm just trying to scratch that same itch. And I think nothing has been as exciting or fun as driving on a racetrack, especially wheel to wheel with lemons or something like that. Actual racing, actual racing is more fun and you get to explore the limits of the car safely and really hone your skills and approach each corner over and over again. Because you're driving the same loop, essentially.

Cadillac Control V. I love that name. That's a good one. I'm a truck fleet mechanic. I work on trucks that belong to contractors, a bunch of government, et cetera. I was having a debate with another tech about how they are purchased. Do you think they buy these trucks? Are they financed, bought outright, leased? These customers easily have 100 plus trucks and most of them are upfitted with cranes, tanks, equipment, et cetera. There are people who work for those agencies that are the procurement people that buy trucks. In fact, these people, if you read Reddit, you see these posts from folks like this all the time. Like I buy 100 trucks a month for my business, ask me anything. And typically they're trying to like slyly promote their, you know, either their how to buy their consultancy business. Right. But like they're definitely financed. There's no way companies are paying outright for these things because they're depreciating them and all that. And if they're buying that many and it's backed by like the government, of course they're getting a great rate.

They're either financing the purchase or leasing it. And someone replied Savage Sharkey, who is a government account auditor and they said that usually you do cost analysis no matter what. It's common to lease things like a school bus that has a resale market but less common on specialized equipment.

Gin and Taconic State Parkway is excellent. New to the watch game. I've only worn an apple watch, Nixon and a Casio and was just given from work a Cartier. Wow. A Santos. There you go. Santos is our excellent. That's my favorite Cartier. And if you don't know about the Cartier, you want to be able to lecture someone about the Cartier. That is essentially the first ever sport watch. This is called the Santos because it was a pilot named, I think it's Albert or Alberto Santos who wanted a watch that he could strap to his wrist and they made this for him. And one of the most iconic watch designs out now out ever. Really. Bunch of different sizes, bunch of different finishes. Really cool watch. Chicks dig them. If you want to attract ladies with a watch, you need a Cartier Santos. Trust me. Maintenance tips, first time watch owner. Assuming this is a brand new watch, you'll have a warranty. So that's good. And usually it's like a five year service they recommend, but given that a Santos has been in production forever, will be in production for the foreseeable future. I don't usually service watches until they stop running right. If they're not telling time right, bring them in for service. You're supposed to do rolexes like every five years. They say my Submariner went like 16 years.

Yeah. My dad's Submariner went almost 20. My Daytona went 21 years, although it was worn much less frequently. So like. Yeah, so you don't need to do it every five years. Because lubricating the good parts that are there is cheaper than replacing parts. All future automatic transmission cars are ev and all ICE cars are manual with relaxed emission requirements. The take rate. Oh, okay. Well, basically the suggestion is that manuals get exempted from emission standards while all other cars are forced into ev. I think that's one of those ideas that the vast majority of people probably wouldn't like.

So I've never personally had a problem, but the forums, people will say they've had problems maybe.

These small battery hybrids that are really like torque filling machines as opposed to hybrids where you can really drive a lot of range, I think are helping the sports cars a bunch. The Revuelto and the T hybrid, the Bentley gt. It's interesting because the transfer of weight helps it so much in a way that would probably harm those other cars. Weight is almost a virtue in the Bentley, as long as it's positioned right.

I'm gonna pivot this question because there's a door number three that I haven't actually really had bad experiences with either of these two people presented. I know they exist on the Internet, but I've never really. And if someone is being someone's. They're asking prices unreasonable. I'll walk away after two seconds. I don't care. The guy who has an inspection done on something thing that they want to buy, they're having a PPI done on a car and that inspection reveals something mechanical that is not outright declared in the ad. Well, PPIs are supposed to reveal things that lay people don't know. That's why you're paying the mechanic. It's the person who has a PPI done which reveals a potential issue issue and then calls the seller a liar for not disclosing this issue that they, a layperson probably didn't know about. Right. That's my least favorite kind of person. And they do so like publicly. See if you can figure out what I'm talking about.

A technical executive at Mazda was recently quoted when discussing, discussing the next gen Miata that the most important thing in a Miata is lightness. And the second most important thing to a Miata is lightness. Assuming the new generation goes on sale in a few years, could carbon tub technology be affordable enough for the next gen Miata to be the first carbon tub based affordable sports car? I don't know. I guess if they're using forged carbon maybe, but I don't think it'll be that cheap to where they're building like $35,000 cars with carbon tubs because they.

I don't. I think Mazda would have to outsource that to like Dallara. I mean a lot of these companies do that. You know someone else who does carbon makes their tub, like Maserati outsources that for the MC20. But then you add the cost of shipping it probably to Japan or wherever they make the Miata. So that would just add a lot of cost. I don't know. That'd be rad. But I would be very surprised. Yeah, they've gotten the car so light without them that anyway. And they keep finding ways to do it.

We did it a long time ago. It was something that seemed like a good idea, but it took a lot of time. People didn't really, by the time you got people like set up and doing it was like it was just a waste of time. I mean, we thought it was a good idea for the same reason that you think it's a good idea and the same reason that Top Gear thought it was a good idea. But it's not actually part of the content in Top Gear, it's part of the show. Them learning the track and running the lap is the show. To just have someone on a sim for like 20 minutes, it's just, it's. It's socially awkward and kind of a waste of time.

Yeah. And a lot of times people that come in for shows, they have a pretty fixed schedule.
