Just go to Straight shoot a book.com to get yourself a copy. Once again, that straightshooter book.com to get yourself a copy. We will get started with Kamala Harris. You sort of cold open right there with that young lady that we taped that, you know, did a man on the street segment with people asking me questions from New Orleans, from New Orleans, Louisiana, during Super bowl week. This was days before the Philadelphia Eagles romped the the Kansas City Chiefs in the super bowl, going up 34 to nothing before settling for a 4022 victory. Very, very lopsided victory. I'm bringing that up because the parade of Philadelphia was today, earlier today. But we're going to get started with some politics, okay? And some political news. Some headlines emanating from the state of California. That's where former vice president and presidential nominee Kamala Harris holds a substantial lead in the polls to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom. Now, Harris has been relatively quiet since losing the presidential race in November, and she hasn't indicated if she even wants to run for governor in her home state. However, this recent Emerson College poll commissioned by nextstar Media asked registered Democrats in California who they would theoretically support in 2026, and the overwhelming majority of 57% named Harris. The next closest candidate was former Representative Katie Porter at 9%. You may recall that Kamala Harris is no stranger to California politics as she represented the state in the US Senate from 2017 to 2021 and she served as California's Attorney General for the six years prior to that. So one would stand the reason that, you know what, she could end up running for governor of California. Let me say this. I would advise that, I would advise that because when you just lost the president presidential election by more than 2 million votes, that can't be ignored. It just can't be ignored. Now, this woman's resume, I don't like the way that I hear folks on the right talking about it. I mean, you won't. Do you have to be sore winners? You know, they rip her at every turn. They question her intelligence. I don't appreciate that. You know, she's a graduate, got a law degree. She's a former district attorney in San Francisco where she served for seven years. She's former state attorney general in California for six years. Obviously, she was a US senator from California for four years from 2017 to 2021, as I articulated. And she's the Vice President of the United States.
Kamala Harris
Those.
Stephen A. Smith
That's a pretty impressive resume. Okay. Did she lose to Donald Trump? Yes, she did. Do I think that the Democrats are making a mistake when they act like this. There's not this mandate in, this Trump mandate that's completely overblown. I think the Democrats are tone deaf and they're missing it. Donald Trump didn't get 50% of the vote. He got, like, 49.8% of the vote, if I remember correctly. A matter of fact, I need to look that up again because I want to make sure that my numbers are right about that. But my point to y'all is that when I'm thinking about this, that's not the argument for the Democrats to be making. People are getting tired of that. You know, you lost, period. And just for specifics, just to make sure that we have this out there, I got the stats right in front of me. Trump won 77,284,118 votes, which amounted to 49.8% of the votes cast for president. That was the second highest vote total in U.S. history, trailing only Joe Biden, who won in 2020, receiving 81,284,666 votes. As I said back then, it wasn't voted for Biden. It was voting against Trump. At that particular moment in time, there was chaos in the streets of America. People didn't like the noise, the chaos, the lack of structure and discipline and what have you, and they won in a different direction. Nevertheless, Trump won 3,059,799 more popular votes in 2024 in this latest presidential election than he had won in 2020, and 14,299,293 more than he had won in 2016. So he now, meaning Donald Trump, now holds the record for the most cumulative popular votes won by any presidential candidate in US History, even surpassing Barack Obama, although Trump ran three times and Obama only ran twice. So we got to take that into consideration. Kamala Harris, for her part, 74,999,166 votes, which amounted to 48.3% of the votes cast. So she lost the popular vote 49.8% to 48.3%. Okay, so she won by 1.5% of the votes. That was 6,285,500 fewer popular votes than Biden won in 2020, but 774,847 more than Trump won in 2020. Remember, 156 million people voted in 2024. That's the second largest total voter turnout in U.S. history in absolute terms. It also is just the second time that more than 140 million people voted in a presidential election. So there are the facts.
Kamala Harris
And having said that, getting back to.
Stephen A. Smith
Kamala Harris, let's be very, very clear. I don't think she should run for president in 2028. Let me. Let me say it like it is. The reason why is because I think the run to the gubernatorial seat, the governor's seat in California is a. Is a given.
Kamala Harris
I think if Kamala Harris runs for.
Stephen A. Smith
The governor of California, she'll win.
Kamala Harris
And if you know that that's as.
Stephen A. Smith
Close to a surefire thing that you could get, why bypass that.
Kamala Harris
In hopes.
Stephen A. Smith
That two years later, you're going to run for the presidency again and win?
Kamala Harris
I don't think that is going to happen.
Stephen A. Smith
I think that's a very risky proposition. I think the fact that Trump won the popular vote and won the Electoral College vote sends a clear message against policies that the Democratic Party was spewing. And I think this argument that a bevy of Democrats are making, that there was no mandate, he didn't even get 50% of the vote. So there's not this strong mandate that the country wants to move in a.
Kamala Harris
Different direction, blah, blah, blah. There's a strong enough mandate that the American people didn't like what the hell they were hearing from the Democrat, from the Democratic Party. See, this is why Stephen A. Smith, your friendly neighborhood sports analyst, is on the damn polls as a presidential candidate. That's why. You really, really think that I think for one second that I'm qualified to be the President of the United States. Once upon a time, I would have never thought that. But then I was reminded, what does it take to be the President of the United States of America? Oh, oh, you got to be 35 years of age. Oh, oh, you got to live in the United States for the last 14 years. Oh, oh, you got to be a born citizen of the United States of America. You got to be born here. Born here 35 years of age and living in a country for the last 14 years. That's it. Do y'all know that some would argue you might need tougher qualifications to get.
Stephen A. Smith
A job at Walmart or Target?
Kamala Harris
I mean, I'm being facetious, but you get my point. That's utterly ridiculous. You would think that the standards need to be harder, but they're not. So in that regard, maybe I'm qualified, but ladies and gentlemen, my life is good. Last time I checked, they don't pay the president how much I'm gonna get paid or how much I'm getting paid. They get all into your personal business, ain't nobody think about my personal business. Not that I have anything to hire anybody. Think about my personal business. I don't have to sit up there and have my whole life put on.
Stephen A. Smith
Front street because I'm asking to legislate.
Kamala Harris
And govern and oversee the lives of more than 350 million American citizens. Hell, no. Am I interested? No. But if the American people reached out.
Stephen A. Smith
To me and said, we need you, brother.
Kamala Harris
We need you.
Stephen A. Smith
I'm not lying when I say I'd consider it.
Kamala Harris
I just consider that close to an impossibility. And it does make me scratch my head like I got damn dandruff in my hair. It does make me scratch my head profusely when I imagine, what the hell are y'all thinking? And then I came to this conclusion. You know what they thinking? They sick and tired of the bullshit that we've been hearing. Identity politics woke culture. Cancel culture. Not prioritizing quality of life nearly as much as we should. Inflation, immigration, crime in the streets of America, national security, global affairs. We weren't hearing what we want to hear. And the Democrats don't have a voice. Now, a couple of politicians that I've spoken to have said the right message to me.
Stephen A. Smith
You know what?
Kamala Harris
It ain't about the midterms. It's about what you do before the midterms so you can win the midterms, so you can regain some prowess so the Trump administration can't just do whatever it is that they want to do. You know why I haven't raised holy hell about doge, the Department of Government Efficiency? You know, I haven't raised holy hell about some of the things that Trump has done, dei, and all of this other stuff. Do you know why I haven't raised, like, completely gone nuclear about it? Because the Democrats messed up by putting them in that position. You want to bring up 34 felony counts. You want to bring up two impeachments. You want to hear people calling him a felon? Well, then why did you lose to him? Because you were busy talking about that instead of what really, really concerns the American people. Let me break something down to y'all.
Stephen A. Smith
Very, very simple.
Kamala Harris
Griff Galen. And you got. I want you to listen to this. It's very important. It's very important, because the American people don't know. Apparently, the Democratic Party doesn't recognize that the American people, people like Griff, like Galen, like Sherry, like Rashawn, like Jennifer, like Izzo, like Fudge, and a bunch of names that y'all don't know. But these are people that I know very well. People don't realize from the Democratic Party. They don't realize that y'all don't give a about the kind of stuff that they were talking about. Y'all don't care that Trump got convicted of 34 felony counts. You know why? Because he convinced half the American people it was politicized. You don't care that he was impeached twice. Because it was completely pushed forward by the Democrats. It completely rejected by the Republicans because they were making the case that it was being politicized. They cared about the price of eggs. They cared about the fact that we went to the supermarket and you could only get a carton of eggs. You can't even get two. They're limiting it. Cared about the price of gas. That's what they cared about. Why am I bringing this all, all of this up? Because Kamala Harris, for the last 107 days before the election, was the face of the Democratic Party. And I just read to you the numbers. I think the woman's smart. I think the woman has accomplished a great deal in her life. I don't think she's going away, but.
Stephen A. Smith
I think she'll have no choice but to. If she passes on a gubernatorial race in California in 2026 to run for the presidency in 2028.
Kamala Harris
The Democratic Party as we know it is done. It's done. Remember when the riots were going on in the aftermath of George Floyd's passing? Y'all remember that? Remember how the Democratic congressional figures in the House put on the African scarves.
Stephen A. Smith
And they all took a knee?
Kamala Harris
Did you really think that the American.
Stephen A. Smith
People thought that was sincere and genuine? Did you really think that was going.
Kamala Harris
To curry favor?
Stephen A. Smith
All it did was highlight how divided we had come and that Donald Trump needed to go. And the Republicans bloviating about some red wave that was coming in 2022 that didn't happen.
Kamala Harris
But the point of all of it is that the Democrats had opportunities, and.
Stephen A. Smith
Once again, they didn't listen to the American people. I've said this on many occasions. When it comes to the Republicans, the.
Kamala Harris
Republican voter out there said, we don't.
Stephen A. Smith
Give a what y'all say. We want Donald Trump. We want him. We don't want Nikki Healy. We don't want Desantis. We don't want Ramaswamy. We don't want Christie. We don't want anybody.
Kamala Harris
We want him.
Stephen A. Smith
But the Democrats will tell you it's Hillary's turn is Joe Biden's turn.
Kamala Harris
We gonna push Biden out It's Kamala.
Stephen A. Smith
Harris's turn and we gonna force feed our base to embrace and accept who we choose as opposed to listening to what the American people choose.
Kamala Harris
The last time one could legitimately argue that the Democratic nominee for the presidency of the United States of America has been legitimately handpicked by the American people was Barack Obama in two happen. That's it ain't happened since people tired of it. I'm bringing all of that up because I want to say to Kamala Harris.
Stephen A. Smith
Run for the governor's seat of California. It's a mess in the state. Yes, Gavin Newsom is saying, yo, you know, there's a lot of misinformation out there. People are not getting it. And yes, he might have taken unnecessary hits and unfair hits for the wildfires that took place because there's little to nothing that you could have done about a natural disaster of that magnitude with that wind coming at 90 miles hour. I get that part. How do you explain being at the mercy of environmentalists in the state of California? How do you explain the taxes the highest in the union? How do you explain the price of gas in California? How do you explain the open borders and the immigration crisis out there? How do you explain all of these things? How do you explain businesses flocking out of the. There's a lot of problems. And I'm making the argument that Kamala Harris, seen by the right as a die hard leftist, if somehow, some way you get the governor's seat of California.
Kamala Harris
And you fix things in such a.
Stephen A. Smith
Way, moving the left away from the far side to a more centralized position and you get a state like California.
Kamala Harris
Back in the right direction, could you.
Stephen A. Smith
Imagine what that would do for Kamala Harris?
Kamala Harris
How would the presidency in 2028, you could be the governor of California and run in 2032, one of the top, largest economies in the country. You turn California around.
Stephen A. Smith
You can run for the presidency in 2032. Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris
2028.
Stephen A. Smith
Nah. Because of all the things on her resume that one would deem relatively impeccable. Let's keep in mind, vice president is the number two slot.
Kamala Harris
A US Senator is a US Senator.
Stephen A. Smith
That's one of a hundred.
Kamala Harris
Yeah, Attorney general. That's law and order.
Stephen A. Smith
I got that part.
Kamala Harris
You did that for six years. State of California District attorney in San Francisco. But let me tell you something, you.
Stephen A. Smith
Haven'T run a state.
Kamala Harris
So if you haven't run a state.
Stephen A. Smith
Even though Donald Trump didn't run a.
Kamala Harris
State either, one would question whether or.
Stephen A. Smith
Not you're going to run a country, especially since you just lost the election. Go for the governor's seat. That would be my recommendation to Kamala Harris. Go for the governor's seat. Win that. That's a surefire thing.
Kamala Harris
That ain't risky. The poll showed it right now.
Stephen A. Smith
57% would vote for her.
Kamala Harris
She's got like, she's got a huge.
Stephen A. Smith
Lead over everybody else.
Kamala Harris
And Gavin Newsom can't go. There's term, term limits. He's up.
Stephen A. Smith
He's got a different problem. We'll talk about him at a later date. But Kamala Harris, if you're gonna do anything, don't think about the presidency in 2028. Think about the governor's seat of California in 2026 and use that to position yourself to become the next president United States in 2032. That would be my suggestion. Bottom line is this, California is the way to go. Kamala Harris. It's the way to go. Anyway, before I get to mayor Eric Adams of New York City, a word from prospects. Okay, folks, I need you all to.
Kamala Harris
Stop what you're doing and listen up.
Stephen A. Smith

Stephen A. Smith
Yo, y'all run your game today. I'll get into four NBA stars and give my picks on who will have more or less than 30 plus points for the remainder of the season. Now let's get to it.
Kamala Harris
First up, with 30 games remaining, will Lebron James have more or less than.
Stephen A. Smith
Seven and a half, 30 plus point games? You know something? I'm gonna say less. I think over the course of these last few games or so, he's gonna try to get Luca more actively involved. Lebron's gonna still get his, have a bunch of 20 point night stuff like that. Gonna have a few 30 pointers here there. Might even drop 40 on a couple of cages. But for the most part, I think in, in an effort to get Luca more acclimated and more comfortable so they could be ready come playoff time. I think you're going to see him being a bit differential because LeBron knows he can turn it up anytime he wants to. He needs Luka getting in tip top shape. So I think that's the reason why you're going to answer less to that question. Next up, with 27 games remaining, will Steph Curry have more or less than seven and a half, 30 plus point games this season? I'm going to go with more. I know Jimmy Buckets is there, but Jimmy Buckets is selfless. Draymond Green is selfless. They know that Steph Curry is that sniper, that marksman extraordinaire. They're going to be looking to get him going, get him the ball. The second half of the season, last 27 games or so, goes relatively quickly. I think you're going to see Steph Curry do what he does. Okay. He's going to explode. I'm going to answer more to this question. Next up, with 27 games remaining, will Jason Tatum of the Boston Celtics have more or less than nine and a half, 30 plus point games? I'm going to go with less on this. I think Jalen Brown's going to amp it up a little bit more. I think you'll see Porzingis a bit more active. Jason Table's gonna still average is 27 a night, don't get me wrong. But nine and a half, 30 plus point games, I don't think I'm gonna go with that. I'm gonna go with less on this one. Finally, 28 games remaining, will Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks have more or less than nine and a half, 30 plus point games? I'm going to say more because him and Carl Anthony Towns are the offense. Everybody else just fits in. Jalen Brunson going to take his shots. He gonna make his shots. He's going to be efficient with it. I'm going to go with more on this, on this particular situation. So let's recap what I'm picking in this particular situation. We got LeBron James, I've got less. We've got Steph Curry, I've got more. We've got Jason Tatum, I've got less. We've got Jalen Brunson, I've got more. That's where I'm at with it, y'all. I usually know what I'm talking about, you know what I'm saying?

Stephen A. Smith
Now let's get to New York City, my home, where apparently Mayor Eric Adams has until 5pm today to decide if.
Kamala Harris
He'Ll run as a Republican to seek.
Stephen A. Smith
Reelection to his seat at City Hall. That's according to the head of the Republican Party in the Bronx, by the way, who says Mayor Adams called him earlier this week to explore the possibility. However, when asked about the speculation of.
Kamala Harris
Switching parties, here's what Adams said yesterday to NBC News in New York, quote, I'm going to be running as a.
Stephen A. Smith
Democrat for the mayor of the City of New York. For all those saying differently, you heard it directly from me. I am going to be running in the Democratic primary, end quote. If Adams were interested in switching parties, he would have again up until 5pm 5pm deadline tonight, a stipulation for all New Yorkers to switch political Party affiliation. I personally don't like the political party affiliation switches. Actually, I don't like that. That's. That's real shady to me. You tell. You tell your constituency out there that you're running for one party, and then you switch. I don't like stuff like that. That's just me. It's not the first time it's happened, and I get that part, but I just don't like it. I've never been one who likes stuff like that. That's just me. So I want to throw that out there. That's number one. Number two, listen, all of this right now. It was a pleasure to have Mayor Adams on the show. He's always welcome back on to express and explain his point of view as something that I welcome. But in the same breath, we have to be fair. You know, he's got some legal issues. We all know that. We all know the kind of trouble that the Southern District of New York was bringing to him because they were coming after him, and we know that. And so when we look at it from that standpoint, all of a sudden, he's meeting with Trump. He's meeting with Trump to discuss certain things. And then the Department of Justice tells New York to drop the charges, forcing the resignation of a Ms. Daniel Sassoon, the Acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. She was. She was the first to refuse to talk, the first to refuse to toss the case against Adams, who was indicted last fall. By the way, keep something in mind. This woman who resigned from the Southern District of New York after being ordered to drop the case against Mayor Eric Adams.
Kamala Harris
She was a Trump appointee. Let's not forget that. That's very important. She's a Trump appointee and she resigned.
Stephen A. Smith
Props to her rule of law. This is the way that it goes. We understand how politics work. We understand the powers that be and the influence they wield. And sometimes they manipulate the proceedings to some degree. I'm just looking at certain things right here. And when we heard President Donald Trump on Thursday denied instructing the Department of Justice to order the dismissal of the criminal prosecution against Mayor Adams. Trump's denial came as Manhattan's top federal prosecutor and five senior Department of Justice officials in Washington, D.C. resigned over an order by a top DOJ official to toss out the case against Adams, Trump said, quote, I didn't. When asked by a reporter if he requested the dismissal, he said, I know nothing about it. I did not. Now, who the hell believes that? I mean, I'm not calling him a liar. I'm just saying I don't believe him. Why? Because the people that he has in place are people that are, you know, will do his bidding, that are perceived as being fiercely loyal to Donald Trump. So how in God's name could something like this happen and he know nothing about it? You really think Pam Bondi, who's now the head of the doj, didn't inform Trump of what she was going to do? You really think that she didn't get his input at all? Especially since Mayor Adams has been communicating with Donald Trump. Really? And then Mayor Adams is taking a lot of heat because he's decided to be cooperative in terms of immigration. ICE specifically being allowed to look into Rikers Island. Rikers island jail complex within hours of Sassoon resigning, Adams announced that he was signed an order allowing federal immigration officers into the Rikers island jail complex in New York City. And he's taken a lot of heat. CEO of New York Immigration Coalition Murad Awade Awdeh writes, this is a deal made with the devil to try to roll back our city's long standing sanctuary laws and policies, policies that allow all New Yorkers to live freely while improving everyone's public safety. End quote. Uh, he continued, actually, Adams, Eric Adams has no integrity. He just made himself complicit with the Trump administration's detention to deportation pipeline in exchange for Department of Justice promise to squash the five count federal corruption charges against him. So that's what the situation seems to be with Eric Adams. Here's what jumps to my mind. In the end, I've never thought that this was a significant case against Eric Adams. I think things get politicized. It wasn't an accident, as Eric Adams articulated right here on this show, how when he went to the White House for help with regards to immigration, in regards to immigrants coming into the city, the amount of money needed to take care of them, et cetera, that's when the trouble came his way. He believes it was being politicized itself. Okay, fine. We don't know. We don't have any proof. We can speculate till the cows come home. My thinking is I don't even know if he'll win reelection because I think Andrew Cuomo has a good chance of winning. The other thing I'm thinking is that Andrew Cuomo needs to run for the governor's seat of New York. I don't want to see Andrew Cuomo in a New York City mayor or mayor's seat. He's the former governor. If you don't get back into politics, not at all those allegations and accusations that were thrown Andrew Cuomo's way that compelled him to step away from office. Not at all of that. Is behind us, behind him, behind us. And he's getting ready to get back in the game. I'd say go back and be governor of the state.
Kamala Harris
Why be mayor of the city when you can be governor of the whole state?
Stephen A. Smith
That, to me, is where Andrew Cuomo belongs. Eric Adams, who knows what the hell happened? He's denied it. Sassoon and others for the Southern District of New York claim that in their mind, he was absolutely, positively guilty. But they answered the folks and the folks that they answered to say drop the damn charges. So this man's gonna go on with his life and continue to pursue his political future, and there's pretty much not a damn thing they could do about it. Trump denying that he has anything to do with it. Okay, the man meets with you, he talks with you, is willing to capitulate some of your concerns about migrants in New York City and assist in that regard. And charges are dropped. But you had nothing to do with that. Okay, okay. You know, that is the equivalent of spitting in people's face and telling them it's raining. Maybe Trump's telling the truth. Nobody believes him. Coming up, who's really in charge in a White House? After seeing Elon Musk hold court with the press earlier this week, I'll get.
Kamala Harris

September 1979 Virginia's top prison band, Edge of Daybreak, is about to record their debut album, Behind Bars in just five hours.
Bill Bellamy
Okay, we're rolling.
Stephen A. Smith
One, two, three, four.
Jamie Petras
I'm Jamie Petras, music and culture writer. For the past five years, I've been talking to the band's three surviving members. They're out of prison now and in their 70s, their past behind them. But they also have some unfinished business.

The end of Daybreak Eyes of Love was supposed to have been followed up by another album.

Stephen A. Smith
My question is so your love life, what is like in the bedroom talking about sports? Does your mate love sports as much as you do?
Kamala Harris
Or just okay, Riddish?
Stephen A. Smith
Well, it's a combination of both. It's amazing. The power of love. See, when you're loved, you'd be surprised how interested people become in things surrounding you just because they know you're interested in it. There are plenty of women that I've dated in my lifetime that weren't necessarily sports lovers, but when we connected. Suddenly, they love sports a little bit more because they know I loved it. And usually, believe it or not, that's one of the gifted, gifted things about ladies that goes underappreciated. Y'all are much more better and much less selfish than we are when it comes to stuff like that. Your man love football, you learn to love football. Your man love basketball, you learn a little bit of basketball. My mother, God rest her soul, no matter what issues I had with my dad, I couldn't deny the profound love she had for him. Because my mother knew nothing about sports. Her son is the face of espn and she was like, eps and whatever it is, I don't know what it is in her West Indian accent. She knew nothing about the sport, about sports, but she knew what a no hitter was. She knew what a strikeout was. She knew what a home run was. She knew what a stolen base was. She knew a lot about the New York Yankees for one reason and one reason only. My daddy, because she loved my father so much that she learned enough about baseball to be able to sit and watch the games and enjoy them with him because she knew he was gonna watch those games. That's really what it's all about. So it's not about choosing one or the other or finding somebody. He's equally yoked when it comes to loving sports as much as you do. When they love you, they learn to love the things that you love, at least to some small degree. And that's what makes women so special. A lot of times, dudes don't make those adjustments. Women do it all the time. So, yeah, the answer to your question is what it is, of course. You know, I have somebody in my life that loves sports, but it's a testament to her, not me, because she learned to love what I love. That's what it's all about. Welcome back to Stephen A. Smith Show. Gotta get to the NBA, where earlier this week, Kevin Durant became the eighth player in NBA history to score 30,000 points. It's an incredible milestone, no doubt, for one of the league's elite scorers, but does that make him a top 10 NBA player of all time? I think it does. Nick Wright of Fox Sports, however, doesn't think so. Check out what he had to say on his podcast, what's Right.
Kamala Harris
Check it out.
Bill Bellamy
Anyone who calls Kevin Durant A top 10 player, if they put pencil to paper, they would be like, oh, damn. Turns out he's not LeBron, Kareem Michael. Those not only, in my opinion, have to be in your top 10. They have to be in your top three. But that is an opinion. Magic, Duncan, Kobe. Does anybody think Kevin Durant's better than Kobe Bryant? I don't think Kevin Durant thinks Kevin Durant's better than Kobe Bryant. Larry Bird. There are going to be a bunch of children. What could Larry Bird do that Kevin Durant can't do? Bird is actually one of the best passers in league history. Shaq, Steph, we are at nine. There is one spot available. You have to say he is better than Joker. He is better than Giannis. He is better than Akeem. He is better than Russell, Wilt, West, Oscar. You don't actually think that. You might think he's better than a couple of those guys. There is no chance you think he's better than all of them.
Stephen A. Smith
Let me say this to you. I work at espn. That guy Nick Wright works at Fox. I don't give a damn. I got a lot of love and respect for Nick Wright, who knows his sports and does a hell of a job. And he's somebody that is a friend that I admire and respect. We don't disagree. We don't agree on this, however, but that's all right. And. And by the way, Nick Wright works every day. Well, one of my best friends in the industry, one of the greatest human beings I know, and Chris. And Chris Broussard, who's just a beautiful, beautiful human being and my buddy, my brother, without question. So I wish them nothing but the best and they know how much love I have for them. Nick Wright. And props to the volume as well, led by Colin Cowherd, who does an outstanding job. One of the best radio hosts in America.
Kamala Harris
Yes.
Stephen A. Smith
They work at a different network. I don't give a damn. You know, they're all great and they're good people and I got number love for him. Let me say this. Nick Wright makes a very compelling case. But you can make. But two things can be true. You can make a very, very compelling case and still make a legitimate argument that he's wrong.
Kamala Harris
We wouldn't pick Kevin Durant over Kobe.
Stephen A. Smith
Because Kevin Durant, because Kobe's got five rings. Kobe Bryant is arguably the second greatest off guard in the history of basketball behind Michael Jordan. And we wouldn't do that. But you do understand that Kevin Durant, at 6ft 11, 7ft tall with a 76 wingspan, you do understand his career scoring average eclipses Kobe, Right. You do understand that his offensive efficiency eclipses Kobe, Right?
Kamala Harris
You do understand that is great and as phenomenal as Kobe as Kobe was. You don't understand that there's a parallel when you look at Kobe Bryant being fourth all time in terms of his.
Stephen A. Smith
33,643 points right there as you look at all of this. Okay, let's analyze certain things here. Okay, Kobe Bryant, I just called up his numbers.
Kamala Harris
He's a career 25 point per game scorer, a career 44% shooter from the field. A a career 33% shooter from three point range. That's Kobe Bryant.
Stephen A. Smith
Okay, That's Kobe Bryant. I just gave that to you. Right?
Kamala Harris
He's five time champion. Okay, we know this, but we're looking at Kevin Durant. Okay, you understand that Kevin Durant is a career 27 point per game scorer. Do you understand? He's career 50 shooter from the field.
Stephen A. Smith
Do you understand?
Kamala Harris
He's a career 38.8, close to 39% shooter. So he averaged more. Plus he was more efficient from the field from three point range. The intangibles, meaning the sizzle, the pizzazz that Kobe has, that's not Kevin Durant. If Kevin Durant was in a Laker.
Stephen A. Smith
Uniform, what would he have done?
Kamala Harris
If Kevin Durant had Shaquille O'Neal as.
Stephen A. Smith
A teammate, would he have won three titles?
Kamala Harris
If Kevin Durant was playing with Paul Gasol and Andrew Bynum and those brothers when they went back to back titles, first against Orlando and then in a seven game series against Boston, Kevin Durant couldn't have done that. Now again, I'm not putting Kevin Durant above Kobe because they are intangibles in terms of leadership and galvanizing the troops around you that come into play. But let's not act like it's an insult to mention Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant in the same name in the same sentence? This is Kevin Durant.
Stephen A. Smith
That's point number one.
Kamala Harris
Point number two, Larry Bird.
Stephen A. Smith
Larry Bird was phenomenal. Larry Bird was a winner. Larry Bird, one of the greatest shooters in the history of basketball and all of this other stuff.
Kamala Harris
Once again, the thing that hurts Kevin Durant is the intangibles because you look.
Stephen A. Smith
At the pieces around them in Oklahoma City, in Brooklyn, in Phoenix. Did you get them to win? No.
Kamala Harris
You have to join Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in order and Draymond Green in order to win your back to back titles.
Stephen A. Smith
And you would have won three straight.
Kamala Harris
Had you not torn your Achilles. I get all of that. But my point to all of you is this. Are we really going to sit here and say definitively that a Larry Bird, a Giannis Antetokounmpo and these other guys were definitively better than one of the greatest scorers in the history of basketball. Keep in mind, Kevin Durant was out.
Stephen A. Smith
For a full season.
Kamala Harris
Because of his torn Achilles. Keep in mind, in 2014, 2015, Kevin Durant only played 27 games. I think it was a foot injury back then. So he's missed a full season and a half. A full season and a half. It's not implausible to imagine that he'd be a top four scorer right around the 33,000 mark that Kobe is at if Kevin Durant hadn't been out a.
Stephen A. Smith
Year and a half of his career.
Kamala Harris
Ladies and gentlemen, Kevin Durant is 36 years old. 36 right now he's averaging. His career average is 27.3 points per game. At age 36 in the 41 games he's played this year at age 36, you know what? Kevin Durant is averaging?
Stephen A. Smith
27.3 points a game.
Kamala Harris
His exact career average. His career is shooting 50.2% from the field. Do you know what he's shooting this year?
Stephen A. Smith
53.2%.
Kamala Harris
His career averages is up. His career average as a three point shooter is 38.8%. Do you know what Kevin Durant is shooting this year at age 36? 40.4% from 3 point range. Do you feel what I'm saying to you? He's 611 with a 76 wingspan with ball handling skills. He can lead a break. He can dance on you in a half court set. He creates his own shot. This is Kevin Durant. So I get where Nick Wright is coming from with all of these names that you want to throw out. Magic Johnson is the ultimate winner and the greatest point guard in the history of basketball. Could Magic Johnson do what Kevin Durant does offensively? Could Magic shoot like that? Magic could pass. Magic opposed. You can Magic even with Magic leading fast breaks. Did Magic had that kind of ball handling skills with that breakdown ability and oh, let's get back to Oklahoma City and Brooklyn and Phoenix. Phoenix has been a disaster. Brooklyn, that was Kyrie. If Kevin Durant wears a size 12 and a half instead of size 13 shoe Kevin Durant in the finals they beat Phoenix. That's not Milwaukee. Remember when Kevin Durant dropped 49 and Mr. Free Throw from dropping 50. When I said that night got called again, I said he gonna drop 50. He dropped 49 in that game five. It's Kevin Durant we talking about. Oh by the way, do the Golden State warriors win two more titles that Kevin Durant doesn't show up. Wasn't it Golden State who were champions a couple of years earlier but had lost in 2016 and LeBron, wasn't it the championship, the former champions, that was Draymond and Clay and Steph, we need Guadala and Kerr and those. And Bob Eisen, wasn't it them that drove that, that flew to the Hamptons to see Kevin Durant, to coax him into coming to Golden State. One other way around, they beat him in a best of seven series after he was up 31 Golden State comes back, beats him, knocks him out of the playoffs in the Western Conference finals before losing in that title round to the Cleveland Cavaliers and still went to him, the person they took out to get to come to Golden State. So my point to Nick Wright would be this. Some would disagree with you, some would agree with you. But why are we talking about Kevin Durant like there's no way in hell.
Stephen A. Smith
That this is possible?
Kamala Harris
How many people in NBA history have averaged 27 a game with that level of efficiency? Who's a two time champion and a two time Finals MVP? Who by the way, you brought Steph Curry ahead of him. We'll give Steph Curry that nod because he's the greatest shooter God has ever created. But the greatest shooter that God ever created was still the second best player on back to back title teams in Golden State to Kevin Durant, who would deny that? And we love Steph Curry. I get annoyed at times at Kevin Durant.
Stephen A. Smith
Sensitive sensitivity.
Kamala Harris
I get annoyed at how he claps.
Stephen A. Smith
Back at me and other people and all of this other stuff with some of his petulance at times. But it doesn't negate the fact that the brother's a good dude. Hell, he called me a clown. And I'm telling you he's a good dude. He is.
Kamala Harris
But he's a superstar player. The only reason why you would take super out of out of superstar for Kevin Durant is because you don't walk through the turnstiles for him the way.
Stephen A. Smith
You do for LeBron or Steph Curry.
Kamala Harris
But enough people walk through this turnstile to see Kevin Durant because they know.
Stephen A. Smith
What they gonna get.
Kamala Harris
Night in, night out, career 50% shooter from the field, 39% from three point range, 27.3 points per game, career.
Stephen A. Smith
Nick Wright, why we talking about him like it's impossible to even fathom that he could be a top 10 player. What are we doing? Giannis is a locomotive coming at you, a monster. Giannis can't shoot like this Gian has beats you playing Bully Ball.
Kamala Harris
He deserves all the credit in the.
Stephen A. Smith
World for it, but that's what he does.
Kamala Harris
Bird was a phenomenal passer. Nick Wright is absolutely correct. And Bird was a three time champion and had the clutch gene. All of that was true. Bird wasn't 611 with a 76 wings.
Stephen A. Smith
Man with sniper likability like that. He has sniper likability. No question about his Larry Bird.
Kamala Harris
I'm just saying, are we sure we can definitively. Are we sure that if Kevin Durant was playing with McHale and Parish and.
Stephen A. Smith
Ange and Dennis Johnson and Gerald Henderson and Cedric Maxwell and those brothers, are.
Kamala Harris
We sure Kevin Durant wouldn't have won a championship with that squad? Are we sure that Kevin Durant wouldn't have won a championship with Cooper and Worthy and Byron Scott and Kareem Abdul Jabbar and. And Kurt Rambis and Michael Thompson? Are we sure? You got to give certain people a nod because Magic Johnson's the greatest point guard that ever lived. You want to give it to Steph because he's the greatest shooter that ever lived?
Stephen A. Smith
Fine.
Kamala Harris
You want to give it to Kareem Abdul Jabbar because he's the greatest scorer that ever lived, with the only person with one patented move in the sport, with the sky hook, Fine. You want to say LeBron, Jordan, Kareem, fine.
Stephen A. Smith
Everything else is open for discussion.
Kamala Harris
You want to give it to Tim Duncan because the greatest power F ever live, fine. After LeBron, Kobe, LeBron, MJ and Kareem.
Stephen A. Smith
Everything is open for discussion. If we're strictly restricting ourselves to the skill set and the accomplishment of Kevin Durant, you cannot eliminate him from a conversation of the top 10 players in NBA history because you can't show me 10 players that did what he has done. That is just a fact. Period.
Kamala Harris
Coming up, Elon Musk holds court with.
Stephen A. Smith
The press with President Trump sitting right next to him. What does that say about the power of the presidency in the United States? I'll get into all of that and answer some of your Valentine's Day questions to close out the show. So don't go away. It's your boy Stephen A. Smith right here. Back with more in a minute.
Josh Smith
Josh Smith here from the State. Stephen A. Smith show. We got Bill Bellamy here. Yes, sir. I got one question for him. So most people are inspired by, you know, different types of celebrities, athletes and stuff like that. What do you say to the people that's inspired by your. Your character dread, which would be my how to be a player facts Well, I mean, first of all, that's a legendary character, you know what I'm saying? I think what I like about that character's impact in the culture.
Stephen A. Smith
You.
Josh Smith
You know what I'm saying? Like, I didn't know how to be a player was gonna be. One of the moves that cats be like, yo, that's me, man. Like, yo, me and my boy, we was in college. We was in high school. We was trying to be Dre, right? And when the movie hit like that, then, you know, it hit like a vibe. And I think what was cool about the character was that it was the fun of being a player. It wasn't like I was, you know, arrogant. I was just like, dog, like, I'm just having the best day of my life. I got a whole. A whole truckload of chicks. I'm living it good, and I'm smashing.
Kamala Harris
Everything in one day.
Josh Smith
Nobody even talked about. I ain't never take a bath. I'm nasty.
Stephen A. Smith
Yeah.
Josh Smith
Hey, Stephen.
Stephen A. Smith
Hey.
Josh Smith
I taught you how to be a player, too.
Kamala Harris
Oh, see that?
Josh Smith
No doubt.
Stephen A. Smith
Lies, lies. I know no such thing. I'm not a player at all. And neither is my knuckleheaded nephew, all right? Always trying to pimp like he's something he's not. But I did love seeing my brother, Bill Bellamy. We go back a long way, so it's always good seeing my brother right there doing big things. He's hilarious as hell. Wherever. I will say this to y'all, wherever and whenever y'all got an opportunity to watch Bill Bellamy doing stand up. It's must see the brother is still hysterical after all these years. Still on his grind, still doing his thing. I did beat. I did beat him and his wife. And back came, and I. I took him out. I took him out. You know, I mean, I ain't seen the wife since. She hasn't recovered from that loss, you know, But I just wanted to throw that out, Mrs. Bellamy. I mean, we. You know, I ain't seen you in a long time, girls. I know you're still alive and kicking and doing great, great things, but I did beat you in bad game. You need to tell the audience that one day. You need to tell them that one day.
Kamala Harris
Anyway, welcome back to Stephen A. Smith Show.
Stephen A. Smith
I want to get back to Washington.
Kamala Harris
And the telling image we saw from the White House earlier this week.
Stephen A. Smith
Did y'all see that press conference that Elon Musk held in the Oval Office with his son on hand, no doubt. And with President Trump sitting at the.
Kamala Harris
Resolute desk many questioned Musk and his.
Stephen A. Smith
Influence on the White House, especially after seeing this. In fact, 14 states sued Elon Musk and President Trump yesterday, arguing the authority the White House has granted the tech billionaire in his Advisory Department of Government Efficiency is unconstitutional. The suit, filed by Democratic attorneys generals from states like Arizona, Michigan and Rhode island, takes aim at the scope and scale of Musk's power. They note that the Department of Government Efficiency, or Doge Doge rather, as it's called, has led the Trump administration's efforts to dramatically reduce the size of the federal workforce, dismantle entire agencies, and access sensitive data. Meanwhile, thousands of federal probationary workers have been fired the last two days. Probationary workers are easier to fire because they lack the bargaining rights of career employees to appeal their terminations. Which brings me back to the image of Musk standing next to Trump in the Oval Office. Check out what Lawrence O'Donnell of MSNBC had to say about Elon Musk standing over Trump. I delivered a, quote, picture of presidential subservience the likes of which we have never seen. The most powerless image of a president of the United States ever created by a camera. Former Vice President Mike Pence never had a day like that in the Oval Office with Donald Trump. Vice President J.D. vance will never have a day like that in the Oval Office with Donald Trump because Donald Trump is the boss of J.D. vance. We have no idea how dependent Donald Trump is on Elon Musk. There will probably never be a way of knowing. End quote. Lawrence O'Donnell, you may have a point, but respectfully, how many people really, really care? Because, you see, when you're in the presidency of the United States of America, people normally assume the billionaires have your ear anyway, that they're telling you how they feel, what they want, what they need you to do, and as a result, you capitulate to their desires, their wants, what they deem to be necessary, et cetera, et cetera. So it's not that big of a deal. From an image perspective, Donald Trump is close to 80 years of age. He felt like sitting down instead of standing up. And yes, Elon Musk was in the Oval Office, wasn't dressed appropriately. Most billionaires choose to dress the way that they want to dress. Had his son talking. His son actually interrupted the president when the president was talking.
Kamala Harris
I get all of that.
Stephen A. Smith
It's not the greatest look in the world, but it's not affecting anybody. Remember what Dave Chappelle did with his opening monologue years ago on Saturday Night Live, and he talked about how Donald Trump was going up against Hillary, and he said, if you don't like the amount of money I'm paying with my taxes, then change the tax code, but we know you won't, because my donors are the same as your donors. And then Dave Chappelle said, ladies and gentlemen, that is when a star was born. Never before. This is Dave Chappelle talking, not me.
Kamala Harris
Never before have we seen a politician playing a game in that house, walk out of the house and tell you we are in that house doing everything you suspect we're doing in that house, and then went the hell back in the house and started playing the game all over again. Why do I bring that up?
Stephen A. Smith
Because one could easily argue that that's exactly the imagery that Trump was giving you. Just like I have a billionaire or two or three that I might capitulate to, lean on, et cetera, get their advice, their counsel, or do their bidding, is what all of these politicians have been doing all of these years. I just wasn't afraid to show it to you on camera. So Lawrence O'Donnell is not, in all likelihood, is not wrong, in all likelihood is pointing out and providing an accurate depiction of what we saw on camera. But in the end, what does it amount to? Not a damn thing. Because Trump is unlike anything we've ever seen in the world of politics. You can accuse him of things, you can indict him on things, you can convict him on things. You can literally legally get away with calling him a convicted felon. And he still went out and got more than 77 million votes for the presidency of the United States of America. It's not gonna work. Democrats, you're gonna have to come up with a new plan, and it shouldn't be Stephen A. Smith for president. I got better things to do with my life. I love talking politics. But me running for office, shaking hand kissing babies, campaigning begging donors and folks for money, and begging politicians to, To. To. To do my bidding. Can't see it. Won't never say anything's impossible, but I can't see it. I like my life. But if you're the Democratic Party, you need a new voice. You need new voices, you need to make some noise, and you need to do it in effective and efficient fashion instead of whistling into the winds like you've been doing. Lawrence O'Donnell, respect that man. Highly knowledgeable, knows what he's talking about. Wasn't wrong with what he just said. It's just futile. Not enough people care. And no matter what the Democrats want to say about the mandate, there's no Trump mandate. He didn't even get 50% of the vote.
Kamala Harris
He got more votes than you, popularly and electorally, period. Come up with a new argument that people care about.
Stephen A. Smith
Trust me, you need to. Now, let's take a look at some of your tweets and videos before I get on out of here for the day. First tweet from Greg. What is that? 1-667-693-5340. Hey, Stephen 8 It's me, Greg. I was at Target last night and this girl that rejected me a few months ago was in the Valentine's aisle. So I went in there too and bought a ton of valentine stuff, over $300 worth to try to make her jealous when she finds out I'm treating my Valentine like that. The reality is I don't actually have a Valentine, and now I'm stuck with 300 of chocolate Teddy bears, shirts and candy and not sure what to do with it. Please, any tips you would have would be greatly appreciated. I want you to hold on to that chocolate. I want you to keep the chocolates, the teddy bears, and everything else that you bought for the $300. And I want you to spend the next few weeks, Greg, looking at it so you can look in the mirror and see what a damn fool you are. I want you to hold on to that imagery of yourself so you don't repeat the same mistakes twice. If the girl wasn't interested in you, she wasn't interested in you. What the hell made you think going into the same aisle? Or let her witness you buying Valentine's gifts, sitting up there saying, all right, who's treating him that? Who's he treating that way?
Kamala Harris
Who told you she don't have a.
Stephen A. Smith
Man in her life that's treating her that way? You don't get forward looking backwards. So keep the chocolates and the teddy bears and all of that stuff and look at it. Let it serve as a reminder of what not the hell to do. So you'll be all right moving forward. Let me see the next tweet.
Kamala Harris
What we got at JGRNT 7, right?
Stephen A. Smith
Hey, Stephen. A Peter. Me and my wife Bonnie lost our spark recently. Can you please give me your top three ways to spice things up again? That's a loaded question, man. You didn't give me enough details, so.
Kamala Harris
I'm going to have to assume if you lost spark.
Stephen A. Smith
I'm assuming you mean in the bedroom, different venues, anything to avoid the same old, same old matters. You'll find that you could be doing the same thing with a woman, but it's in a different place, a different location, a different time of the day, a different mood. All of that contributes to ambiance, number one. Number two, you have to do whatever. It works for her. That touches on elevating her desire for you. You can't be blah. People don't realize this enough. But one of the reasons why monotony contributes to stuff being stale is because this ain't the days of Mork and Mindy, that show that was on in the 80s or something. This is real life in the real world.
Kamala Harris
And the more stale things are, the.
Stephen A. Smith
More you feel like you've aged, the more you feel like a step has been lost. Like the spray, the spry on your step is gone.
Kamala Harris
Nobody wants to feel that way. Sometimes people are feeling that way through no fault of their respective partner, but nevertheless, they have to embrace it as such because that's the person in front of their face. And when you're going through those kind of things, those are the things you got to pay attention to. Those are the things that matter. It's very, very important that you understand that.
Stephen A. Smith
And you want to avoid just being ordinary.
Kamala Harris
Sometimes you got to shake things up. And by the way, I'm going to throw a little secret out there, especially if somebody loves you.
Stephen A. Smith
There's nothing wrong with being a headache.
Kamala Harris
From time to time, because the reality is when things are peaceful and tranquil and there's never any kind of drama whatsoever, that gets old too, because that's a license for people to take advantage of you. Sometimes you got to spice things up. Sometimes a bit of contention does. But you know. You know how they say the best part of breaking up is making up? Sometimes that that works. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Too much absence makes the heart wander, but absence can make the heart grow fonder.
Stephen A. Smith
As long as there's not too much absence.
Kamala Harris
Don't be in each other's face all the time.
Stephen A. Smith
Don't suffocate one another.
Kamala Harris
Give somebody their space. Let them miss you a little bit.
Stephen A. Smith
Those things work, too. Next up, what you got for me?
Hunter
So, Stephen, what is the secret to a successful and long marriage?
Stephen A. Smith
Mastering your significant other. Anybody could flow when things are going well. When hard times arrive, what are you made of? That's determined in most instances by how well you know your significant other and how well you want them to know you. One of the greatest gifts a woman can give to her man is finishing stuff that he started without him pushing for her to do so. You come home from a hard day's work and the exact meal that she has for you is exactly what you wanted. You got something on your mind. She knows what you're thinking, you've said nothing and you're getting along, but she can look at you and see that you're bothered. She rubs your shoulders, runs her fingers through your hair. Certainly I'm not talking about myself because I ain't got much. But she does all of these things without you asking.
Kamala Harris
You do for her. Girls getting on her nerves at the job.
Stephen A. Smith
Boss is getting on her nerve. Friends getting on her nerves. You automatically know something ain't right. And whatever it is that works for her, you know what to do because you know her. When you know your significant other and you know what it takes to please them and you're capable of providing that pleasure, it goes a long way. Because the unknown might excite us from time to time, but in the end, when you go home to somebody that you know and that knows you, the level of peace eclipses anything else somebody could throw in your direction. And we might like a little drama from time to time, but nothing beats peace. Ever. Remember I said that. Got one more tweet for you. What is it at the PaulAndrew writes Stephen A. If you have accidentally had 10 to 15 beers at the Eagle super bowl parade, any advice on how to pass off a silver at Valentine's Day dinner? I don't know what the hell. Some air, something that you got to take some first of all, drink a lot of water, drink some coffee. Try to take a little nap before you go out. If you got to throw up or something, make sure you do that. And then get in the shower. And then after the shower, brush your teeth and make sure that stuff ain't in your breath. Don't smell like a drunk, don't act like a drunk. Take a break, delay dinner, push the reservation back, blame it on the restaurant. Do what you gotta do. But whatever you do, don't show up for a Valentine's Day dinner drunk and hungover. Whatever it takes to get rid of that feeling. You do that because the Eagles parade was nice. But the one thing that the Eagles super bowl championship couldn't do for you is keep your bed warm at night. Remember that. Don't put the Eagles or any sports team before your woman. Remember I said that. That's it for this edition of the Stephen A. Smith Show. I hope you all enjoyed it. I got to get on out of here. Hope y'all enjoy your wonderful weekend. As you can see, I'm about to enjoy mine. Until next time, everybody. Peace and love. Take care. Stephen A Signing off.

Episode Title: California, VP Harris is coming! D### naysayers, Kevin Durant is top ten. NY Eric Adams is a Republican.
Release Date: February 14, 2025
[01:34] Stephen A. Smith: Stephen A. delves into the political future of Vice President Kamala Harris, highlighting her strong standing in California polls. An Emerson College poll commissioned by NextStar Media reveals that 57% of registered Democrats in California would theoretically support Harris for governor in 2026, significantly outpacing her nearest competitor, Katie Porter, at 9%.
[02:22] Stephen A. Smith: "Kamala Harris has been relatively quiet since losing the presidential race, but her resume is impressive—Attorney General of California for six years, U.S. Senator from 2017 to 2021, and now Vice President."
Smith advises Harris to consider running for governor instead of immediately eyeing the presidency. He argues that winning the gubernatorial seat would solidify her political foundation, making a presidential run in 2032 more viable.
[07:40] Stephen A. Smith: "I don't think she should run for president in 2028. Let me say it like it is—the governor's seat in California is a given."
[25:31] Stephen A. Smith: The discussion shifts to New York City's Mayor Eric Adams, amidst rumors of him potentially switching to the Republican Party. Smith references statements from Republican leaders in the Bronx and a recent press release where Adams reaffirmed his intent to run as a Democrat in the mayoral primary.
[27:56] Kamala Harris: "She was a Trump appointee. That's very important."
Smith critiques Adams' legal challenges, suggesting political motivations behind the Department of Justice’s actions. He questions the integrity of the Southern District of New York and implies a partisan manipulation aimed at Adams.
[32:03] Kamala Harris: "Why be mayor of the city when you can be governor of the whole state?"
Smith speculates on Adams' reelection prospects, mentioning the possibility of Andrew Cuomo seeking the governorship instead, given past controversies.
[33:11] Kamala Harris: The show transitions to sports, focusing on Kevin Durant's achievement of scoring 30,000 points, making him the eighth player in NBA history to reach this milestone. However, Fox Sports' Nick Wright contests Durant's inclusion in the top 10 all-time greats.
[39:55] Bill Bellamy: On Nick Wright’s podcast, Bellamy argues against Durant's top 10 status, emphasizing legends like Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Larry Bird.
[40:53] Stephen A. Smith: "Nick Wright makes a very compelling case. But two things can be true—you can make a compelling case and still make a legitimate argument that he's wrong."
[43:19] Stephen A. Smith: "Kobe Bryant is arguably the second greatest guard in history behind Michael Jordan."
[53:12] Stephen A. Smith: "If we're strictly restricting ourselves to the skill set and the accomplishment of Kevin Durant, you cannot eliminate him from a conversation of the top 10 players in NBA history because you can't show me 10 players that did what he has done. That is just a fact. Period."
Smith defends Durant's prowess, citing his efficiency, scoring average (27.3 points per game), and overall impact on the game, while acknowledging the strengths of other NBA legends.
[56:11] Kamala Harris: The conversation shifts to a controversial event where Elon Musk held a press conference in the Oval Office alongside President Donald Trump, raising questions about Musk's influence.
[58:36] Stephen A. Smith: Discusses a lawsuit filed by 14 states against the White House's Department of Government Efficiency (Doge Doge), alleging unconstitutional power granted to Musk. The lawsuit targets efforts to reduce the federal workforce and access sensitive data.
[60:29] Stephen A. Smith: "We have no idea how dependent Donald Trump is on Elon Musk. There will probably never be a way of knowing."
Smith critiques the perceived subservience of the president to billionaires like Musk, highlighting concerns over political influence and the erosion of presidential authority.
[62:48] Kamala Harris: "He got more votes than you, popularly and electorally, period."
The latter part of the show features Stephen A. Smith addressing audience questions related to relationships and Valentine's Day.
Question 1:
[63:02] Greg: Buying over $300 in Valentine's gifts to impress a girl, only to realize she isn't interested.
[64:25] Stephen A. Smith: Advises Greg to keep the gifts as a reminder of his mistake, emphasizing self-reflection and acceptance when someone isn't interested.
[65:11] Peter: Losing the spark in marriage.
[66:52] Stephen A. Smith: "Mastering your significant other... One of the greatest gifts a woman can give to her man is finishing stuff that he started without him pushing for her to do so."
Smith provides practical advice on rekindling relationships, such as creating a new ambiance, understanding each other's needs, and maintaining peace and mutual respect.
Additional Advice:
Hydration and Grooming: For someone hungover before a Valentine's dinner, Smith recommends drinking water, having coffee, taking a nap, and freshening up to avoid appearing intoxicated.
Maintaining Balance: Emphasizes the importance of not being overly present to prevent suffocation, allowing space for each other to miss and appreciate one another.
In wrapping up the episode, Stephen A. Smith reiterates his perspective on the discussed topics, emphasizing the need for strategic political moves for Kamala Harris, skepticism towards Eric Adams' political maneuvers, and acknowledging the complexity of ranking NBA legends. He also underscores concerns about Elon Musk's role in the White House and offers heartfelt advice to his listeners on relationship matters.
[72:00] Stephen A. Smith: "That's it for this edition of the Stephen A. Smith Show. I hope you all enjoyed it. I got to get on out of here. Hope y'all enjoy your wonderful weekend."
