Geico's motorcycle expertise means I'm covered by people who know bikes like I do. I'm happy as a clam. No conclusive scientific research has shown clams can experience happiness. It just meant that I feel really good about my coverage.
Chris Carter
I mean, even if you took the clam out for the best day ever, visiting the zoo, taking a scenic ride.
Chad Johnson
Knowing you're insured by specialists, and sharing.
Chris Carter
A strawberry ice cream cone together, the clam would not feel happy. And your strawberry cone would taste sort of clammy.
Stephen A. Smith
Ew.
Chad Johnson
Geico's motorcycle specialists who know bikes like.
Chris Carter
You do, assume no liability for clammy ice cream cones.
Chad Johnson
Geico expertise for your motorcycle. What's up everybody? Hope y'all had an absolutely, positively wonderful weekend. I know I did. Welcome to the latest edition of the Stephen A. Smith show. Coming at you over the Digital Airways or YouTube and of course, iHeartRadio. As always, I'd like to pause to take a moment to thank my subscribers and followers. We've now eclipsed over 938, 000 subscribers. Keep clim and climbing and climbing. We've exceeded over 3 million downloads over the last few months. Can can't thank y'all enough for the love and support. Keep it coming. And I'mma keep on coming. I got a lot of stuff to get into. You know, some stuff in sports, some stuff and pop culture, some stuff that I don't consider entertainment. I'd call it my crime beat, for crying out loud. Because I'mma touch on the Menendez brothers. You know, I'mma do something like that. Might even touch on a little something else as well. But I'm going to get into my sports first before I get into the NFL this week. Talking with my man cc, Chris Carter, the one and only Chris Carter. All he does catch touchdowns. I got to start this show off because it's something that. I don't know when this was done, but it had me laughing all morning. So I said, I'm going to start my show off with this subject today before I get into the headlines for Week 12. Like I said, I got. I. I need y'all to hear this sound from my man, Chad Johnson, aka Oo Cinco. Now, if y'all don't remember, Chad Johnson played 11 seasons in the National Football League, was absolutely superstar wide receiver, playing for the Cincinnati Bengals for the better part of that career. And he says he never sustained a significant injury. Well, ladies and gentlemen, this might explain why. Take a listen to this clip, please. From 7:00pm in Brooklyn. You know Carmelo Anthony Kid Murrow, presented by Wave Sports and Entertainment. Please take a look at this. Please look at Chad. Ocho Seiko, you shared a unique remedy to treat ankle sprains. You was quoted as saying, I collect warm urine from my teammates, heat it up, and put my ankle in it for 30 minutes. Yeah, that worked. So I'm your teammate. How do you collect my piss? You got team meetings in the morning, right? Everybody.
Chris Carter
Hey, y'all. Boy, do me a favor, boy.
Chad Johnson
My ankle kind of up. I need you to all y'all to drink water at one time. So when we break meeting, if y'all pee, it's a bucket in the bathroom.
Chris Carter
Boom.
Chad Johnson
Y'all all pee in that bucket for me. I take it as long as there's.
Chris Carter
Enough that comes above the ankle, you know, warm it up.
Chad Johnson
I feel like there had to be at least some. You know what I mean? Some choices that you went through before you finally landed on, like peeing the ankle? No, no, my grandma. My grandma told me about that back in the days. There's a reason I've never been injured. Home remedies. I can't argue with the results, though, man. Like, you look like you're in better shape than most NFL players I see.
Chris Carter
All right. Ancestors sitting here, living proof.
Chad Johnson
Now, I gotta admit something. That's some nasty shit. I'm sorry. That's just nasty. That's just nasty right now. I, I gotta admit, you know, the brother wasn't known for being injured during his NFL career. But to stick, it's bad enough to stick your feet in urine intentionally, okay? But it's even worse when you're willing to allow it to be other people's urine and not your own other people's stuff entering your pores. And you, ladies and gentlemen, just because you can't see everything with the human eye doesn't mean that it can't penetrate the body. You understand what I'm saying? Pores, sweat and stuff like that, Little microscopic holes that can get inside of you, and you're letting other people's urine get into you. And here's the thing. This is the reason that it had me laughing, because I love Ocho Seiko, I love them. But this is what had me laughing about it. What had me laughing about is that I looked at the brother and I went like this. Now when they on Nightcap with my man Shannon Sharp, they be, they be talking about some freaky deaky stuff, you know what I'm saying? I mean, they, they, they, they, they tend to go there, okay? That's not what we do on a show like this, but they, they tend to do that. More power to them. And so one could easily ask the question, you understand? I mean, that does, does Ocho Cinco have a kind of toe fetish? And what I hope is that if there is a toe fetish that exists with him is something he's putting his mouth on as opposed to allowing somebody else to put their mouth on his. Because now that we know where he sticks his feet or where he stuck his feet for, for, throughout his career, other people's urine penetrating the seams and stuff like that of his skin and all of this other stuff, I, I just don't know, man. I, I love you, Ocho. You know that, bro. We go back a long ways, but damn, this son different, bro. I, I, I, I've known a lot about you. I never knew that stuff sticking your feet in other people's urine, that's just nasty, bro. That's just nasty. But more power to you. More power to you. Let me get to my guest. He's raised, he's with me right now. I'll tell you, he joins me every week. All he does is catch touchdowns. One of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, Hall of Fame wide receiver, the one and only Chris Carter. Chris, you heard me. You heard the brother talking about avoiding injuries, having his feet stuck in other people's urine, giving details about it with a smile on his face with fly ass shades on. What do you have to say about that, CC youA wide receiver?
Chris Carter
O Cinco would do anything to get attention for himself. For one, I'm 100 certain it don't work. Okay, this is the worst thing coming out of your body. The next worst thing is spit. Now imagine somebody spitting on you. So now I'm getting ready to let someone urinate. So the process of urination is, is to remove the waste from your body in a liquid form. It's all waste. And he's talking about all over his career. He didn't get injured and everything. Well, let me tell you, Ojo Sinko came into the league in 2001. I was in the process of going out in 2002. So I played in the 80s, the 90s and the 2000s. I played a lot more physical games than he's used to. Mahomes I'm in this four games. Ain't no home remedies. Ain't no, ain't no. It's just hard work, man. It's just hard work. Now did I have some home remedies and stuff in the locker room? Yes, there was one around NFL that this horse treatment called bmso. And if you had a muscle strain, if you had especially a calf pool or hamstring strain used to rub this liquid on there, horse trainers use it. It makes horses operate. Now, it will make you smell like a horse. You will have double stints of, of garlic on you. So whoever you're sleeping with for four or five days, it's going to be on you. It's going to make your skin get an unbelievable rash on it. But your hamstring will be better on Sunday and you will be able to run. So as far as remedies and everything, Ochocinko should have came up for a remedy of how he can remember Bill Belichick and Tom Brady's playbook when he got to New England.
Chad Johnson
Well, be nice to the brother, bro.
Chris Carter
I'm all about getting some type of advantage. But don't be out here preaching stuff that don't work. Don't be telling football players stuff that don't work just to try to get some, some hits and some clicks and stuff on you. I, I, I, I see what Chad doing.
Chad Johnson
I'm not going to get on the brother too much because the brother could play and all and the whole bit. And I'm not going to get into his game. The last experience in New England was what it was. But I'm just saying it. I just had to hear from a wide receiver talking about sticking your feet in urine help you avoid injuries. I never heard that in my life.
Chris Carter
No. No in the history of football has ever done it.
Chad Johnson
Nobody. Let me get. Let me get into some stuff on the field right now. Saquon Barkley put on the show. We all know we saw him put on the show. That's the MVP race conversation that we need to get started with. Eagles won last night 37, 20. Our running back hasn't won the MVP since Adrian Peterson did it, I think, in like 2012. What are your thoughts about Saquon Barkley is the leading candidate for MVP right now.
Chris Carter
I mean, he should be if you see what he does to Philadelphia. Because Philadelphia's been able to throw the ball with Jalen hurt and they've been able to run the ball a decent amount with Jalen and the other running. And we thought with Kelsey leaving that they would lose some of that physicality up front. Man, this dude, not only does he bring them physicality, but he's one of the rare players in the NFL. But anywhere on the field, he Texas tonight that he can score. First time I saw him play in person, it was Penn State playing in the horseshoe. Ohio State. And he returns the opening kickoff in Atlanta Stadium about 100 yards, 103 yards back for a touchdown against them. Now I'll say ends up coming back and. And thumping them pretty good. But he put a mark on my. I'm gonna say I'm gonna watch him. And I listened to some interviews the last couple weeks and he finally said, hey, my disposition from college to New York, it changed how I reacted to pro football. It made me more introvert. Like, I'm an extrovert. I'm a happy go lucky guy. I'm a showman. And you're starting to see that on the field. You see him going out of bounds. He did that hesitation move, that pause move. And he had told his teammate Darius Slade before the Giants game when the crowd started doing him at the beginning, I'mma put 200 on. So he is operating at all time high as far as confidence. He is a perfect mix for what they have done this off season, which puts Howie Roseman in position to be executive of the year. But, man, he is a perfect fit for Philly and he is. Him and Philly are the only team that can match the physicality of Detroit in the nfc.
Chad Johnson
How bad do the New York Giants look today? Knowing they just let go of Daniel Jones, granted him his release upon request. They look horrible. Saquon Barkley is doing his thing and, and he's an MVP candidate. And they are in football purgatory to the point where a rookie in Nate and M in. In. In Naper's coming out and he's basically saying, we ain't worth the damn. We soft. We ain't good. How bad is Saquon making the Giants look right now?
Chris Carter
For one Stephen. And you know, it's. It's already hard enough to keep your roster intact. It's hard enough to recruit players. It's hard enough to retain players and to keep developing them. But one day, when you own an NFL team, Stephen A. And you have me as a consultant, you're gonna ask me, chris, what are we gonna do? I'll say barely. This is what we definitely not want to do. We're never gonna let any of our good players go to arrival. We're not gonna let them go in our division. We're gonna try not to let them go in the nfc because not only does it make you and your organization weaker, it strengthens the opposition. It's a, It's a. It's a combination counter punch that you can't recover from. So guess what they end up doing? They're so embarrassed. They cut a guy who got guaranteed money. Go home. Collect your check. Go home. We. We'll send you money to you. Go home. Get in a better situation. That's how embarrassing this situation is. And this will cost multiple people because let's go back to that interview where they tried to clown Saquon Barkley this off season. They knew that camera was on. They knew what was going on. So the Giants. The Giants are getting what they deserve. And it's been a long time since the Giants in the Mara family have run the team the way that we are used to the mars and, and, and. And other people associated with that.
Chad Johnson
It's been a long time.
Chris Carter
So they need a total face.
Chad Johnson
They got one playoff victory in 13 years, two playoff appearances. They. They. They've been horrible. Their record is like 78, 127 and 1. They've had. They've had more head coaches than playoff appearances in that span. They have been horrible. I don't know how it's gotten his bat. I think D's going to lose his job. I'm not sure how much he deserves it because I know he can coach. He was a coach of the year. But shine. The GM definitely looks bad and, and I don't think he'll ever get another GM job again. I think it's inevitable.
Chris Carter
And look during this era, Stephen A. During this era that they have struggled, Dallas has been average, a little above average. Washington has been pathetic like so they lose an era. Not where teams is balling. No, no, no, no. They had plenty opportunity where two of their rivals were weak to average at best. So this is, it's hard to explain how bad they've been in this mediocre era of NFC East.
Chad Johnson
I gotta ask you about the Vikings in this regard because they want a close game against the Bears. They one game behind the Lions in the NFC North. But you've seen what you've seen from the Lions. You've seen what you're seeing from the Eagles with Saquon Barkley. Is this a two horse race in the nfc or do you still think that the Minnesota Vikings at 9 and 2 are a team, your team that can make some noise?
Chris Carter
The only reason why I think this is because Detroit's in our division and our team is built for a team like Detroit. When you look at Brian Flores, the way the defense is going to be sending people from multiple directions, the overall physicality they've been able to hold up. But ultimately, bro, it's back to you. Stephen A. Is right again. What is Sam Darnold going to do? We have seen sometimes he's been efficient, but what stops people from jumping a bowl of confidence is how good is he going to be going against Jared Golf, Jalen hurt because those dudes is balling. And if you look at the tail of the tape in that category, you got to give those teams an advantage over the Vikings and that's a significant advantage. When you talk about the guy that's touching the ball every play, they do have a good surrounding team. Special teams are really underrated. Field goal kicker is good from 53 and in and their defense is much improved. So yes, the Vikings can be there, but Sam Donald will have something to say about that. Positive or negative.
Chad Johnson
If this, if the playoffs were to begin today, do you realize that the Seattle Seahawks, not The San Francisco 49ers, not the Los Angeles Rams, not even Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals, it would be the Seattle Seahawks that were in the playoffs representing the NFC West. How shocked are you by that?
Chris Carter
Well, I'm really shocked at San Francisco. I thought they had one more run in them before they had to sign pie to a long term deal. I knew they were going to have problems when Brandon A. Was demanding the type of money because that really threw their salary structure Way, way off. Debo Samuels is a, a dynamic player, but he is not a number one wide receiver outside the numbers. You can see him Green Bay last, last night and just he was playing outside the numbers and he dropped a couple balls because he's not that. He's a slash receiver. Put him in a slot, ran on some reverses, things like that. But now that I, Luke is out, I was always worried about Trent Williams and he took a little more of the money. So the one thing none of us consider about San Francisco because they've had such a dominant roster for a long time is what happens when you lose the Super Bowl. Stephen A. What's been happening the last 20, 30 years, typically what happens, they suffer a huge letdown. And not only is this going to be a letdown from the super bowl, but I do believe that the window in San Francisco is close because they're going to have to sign Curry to a big deal. They're going to lose some of their free agents and have to make some tremendous adjustments.
Chad Johnson
See, I don't appreciate the fact that you didn't bring up that Stephen A. Was right yet again in that particular instance, because I've been saying that for a while about San Francisco. Francisco, you've been knocking on the door. You go to four NFC Championship game, two super bowl appearances in the last five years, have no super bowl championship to show for it. And everybody think it's just going to be easy for you to get back to that. This is chickens coming home to roost. It's just that simple. You had your opportunities, you can't miss them. You got to take advantage of them in the National Football League or it's going to cost you. Speaking of champions, speaking of super bowl championships, we got to get to Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City real quick. How many damn close games, close calls are they going to be able to absorb before it ultimately, before it ultimately bites them? I don't think you can win a Super bowl winning the way that they've been winning. Cece. I think eventually it catches up to you.
Chris Carter
Well, I just think conventional thinking, yes, that would happen. But we are talking about the best player and the best coach. So for many years, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, one other. And guess what we it's winning, okay? That's winning when all the pressure is on them as defending champ, two time champ, perennial super bowl contenders, all these things. If Kansas City can get to the playoffs and get a bottle, there is nobody talking about, let's go to Arrowhead man, let me go to Arrowhead and try to beat them to get into the championship game. So they only benefit once they get into the play. They're getting everyone's best week. Carolina was playing the super bowl this week, man, they thought they had a fe. And that's the way it is every week. If you look at the outside pressure, we thought last year, Taylor Swift, they wouldn't be able to repeat all these things going off the field. Patrick Mahomes family, they seem to be able to make all the right moves. And then now they're trying to three pe While at the game we had two of their star players. Hops get rocked. There's nothing worse than getting robbed. Man, that's an invasion of your privacy. They got a number of other things going on, being who they are that has not had them to be distracted. So they're able to focus enough. So we should applaud them based on what they're doing. NFL games are hard to win. Every game they win a different way. It goes into their DNA, it goes into their algorithm. Now the team knows. Oh, man, we win defense, we win special team. But at the end, they know they got the guy. They can drive them down the field. Oh, quick, like he's going out of bounds and turn it up just like he won last year. Yeah. So.
Chad Johnson
I'm say this to you. I'ma say this to you. If I had to pick the winner of the super bowl right now, it would be Kansas City against Detroit. I would pick Detroit. I picked right now. I ain't gonna lie to you.
Chris Carter
Yeah.
Chad Johnson
I ain't gonna lie. Yeah.
Chris Carter
So, yeah, San Francisco. Remember. Remember how physical they were? Okay. Okay. But that's the homie, man.
Chad Johnson
See, I don't trust. Okay, okay. So, so, so, so that's what it is. You just taking Patrick Mahomes and against the field. That's what you doing.
Chris Carter
Man, they showing me every week that they about that business, they about that work. He's not playing this best football. He doesn't have the best arsenal to throw to. There is no player in the NFL that has more pressure on him than Patrick Mahone and he is still winning football games. Stephen A. Don't be like everybody else. Now, don't forget the number one stat for a quarterback is does my guy get on the winning bus. Remember that's how we used to judge Tom Brady. It was about 6 of everything. But does my guy get us on the winning bus?
Chad Johnson
All right, look, man, I'm gonna let you go. I appreciate you, bro. Thanks. A lot, man. We got a lot to talk about in the next in the weeks to come. Make no mistake about that. But right now, I got my eyes on Detroit and Philadelphia because I think that's a confrontation. I see Minnesota on the outside looking in. But you know what? I just don't want to bring that up. I didn't bring that up because Thanksgiving is coming up. You know, I ain't want to mess up your Thanksgiving by letting you know your purple people eaters are gonna get eaten up if they go up against Detroit or Philadelphia. I ain't feel like doing that to you this week, cc. That's why I didn't bring it up. All right. That's why I ain't bring it up.
Chris Carter
Yeah. Cece's grateful for a lot of things. I'm grateful that you're my friend. I'm grateful. We got a lot of things to be thankful for, so that's what we put across the airways. I appreciate you, bro. Appreciate you putting me back in business with you.
Chad Johnson
No doubt. All love, baby. I'll talk to you soon. Talk to you soon. Happy Thanksgiving. One and only CC Carter, right here with your boy Stephen A. Welcome back to the Stephen A. Smith Show. I didn't bring this up, but I felt compelled to bring this up now. Been pretty busy lately. Politics, news, all of this other stuff. But I wanted to get to this story in light of the things that I discussed about LeBron and Bronnie a few days ago. A little more than a week ago, there was a small headline in the world of college basketball. Kion Anthony, a top 40 recruit in the class of 2025. The son of Carmelo Anthony, ladies and gentlemen, he committed to Syracuse, where his daddy played. For those of y'all who don't remember Carmelo Anthony, remember Jim Boeheim all of those years, 40 years he coached at Syracuse. He had Sherman Douglas and Derrick Coleman and Billy Owens and, and, and, and all of these cats, okay? And let's not forget the greatest show in the history of college basketball, in my opinion. Dwayne Pearl, Washington. Okay? Anybody that basketball knows I'm right about that. None of them led Syracuse to a national championship. Carmelo Anthony did as a freshman back in 2003. He was average. He averaged 22 and 10 that year, shooting 34 for the field that year. Brother was all world. Anyway, as for Cayenne, he's 6ft 5. He's a 65 shooting guard out of Long Island Lutheran, who's considered one of the best pure scorers in the country. Here's a clip of Kyan making the announcement on his father's podcast. 7pm in Brooklyn, presented by Wave Sports and Entertainment. Take a listen. Between USC and Syracuse, Just want to thank both of them for coming to all my practices, coming to all my games and. Yeah, but at the end of the day, you know, only one could stay. And with that being said, I'll be coming to Syracuse University, Juice. You know what I'm saying? Yes, sir. First of all, major thing, major props rather to Cayenne. The brother can play. I have not seen him in full disclosure. I've heard scouts talking about him. I've had people talking to me about him. And obviously considering that he's the son of Carmelo Anthony, you're going to ask the obvious questions. How's this game? And how does that game compare to the likes of Bronnie James and other and, you know, stuff like that. Forget all of that for a second. Let me first say congratulations to this kid. The kid averaged 19.6 points on a Nike EYBL circuit in the spring, scoring 25 or more points in four of the 15 games he played. He was even more prolific at the Nike Beach Jam over the summer, averaging 21.8 points and 37.3% shooting from three point range in eight games including a 40 pointer, a 40 point outing against a Mac Irvin fire when he shot 15 of 19 from the field and five or six from three point range. Just to give him a little bit more props, let me tell you what the scouting report is on him out of 247 sports. It says he's skilled, smooth scorer, high volume, shot taker and maker, plays with an aggressive scoring mentality and is constantly hunting buckets. He's had the ultimate green light, particularly in the eybl, so he has a tendency to settle for tough shots at times. But there are few players in high school basketball better equipped to make shots with such high degrees of difficulties. He's got pull ups, step backs, floaters, deep threes, all with natural, with a natural soft touch, an instinctive feel for putting the ball in the basket. His footwork and jab series are as advanced as you'd expect and he's also become very adept at coming off of ball screens, ranking in the 90 percentile in those situations during the 2024 EYBL percentage. That sounds like Carmelo Anthony. Jab step, pull up. Who this is Mellow we talking about. Scorer of 28000 career points who was named to the NBA's 75th anniversary team in 2021. During his one season at Syracuse he led them to the national championship. He was an All American. He was an NCAA final foremost outstanding player honoree. He's also a three time Olympic gold medalist. That's who we're talking about with Carmelo Anthony. Why do I bring that up? Why do I bring that up? Because it needs to be said. Mellow is mellow. Class personified. Always a beautiful brother. Always. Even killed. All of these months we've been hearing Bronnie James, Bronnie James, Bronnie James. When have you heard about Kyan? Particularly out of the mouth of Carmelo Anthony. A matter of fact, when you heard Carmelo Anthony, you know what you heard from Carmelo Anthony when people were asking him whether something was going to go pro or not? A few months ago he said, I don't want to hear that shit. He said that brother got to get, get on this game, be on his grind and figure out what college he's going to go to. That's what he said. And see, that's where the subject has to be broached. Now when we look at Carmelo Anthony, his career is not comparable to that of LeBron James. Because LeBron James is a four time champion and he's played 10 times in the NBA finals. Carmelo Anthony never got there once. That is a huge blemish on the career of Carmelo Anthony. It is the only blemish on the career of Carmelo Anthony. Olympic gold medalist, all world scorer, perennial all star, face of a franchise in Denver and then ultimately New York. When I think about Carmelo Anthony, I think about a dude. I believe that Joe Dumars would probably still be an executive in the NBA. I'm not talking about the NBA league office, but I'm talking about for the NBA team when he had Tayshawn Prince and he had Ben Wallace and he had Rasheed Wallace and he had Rip Hamilton and he, he had Chauncey Billups and stuff like that. Yeah, you gonna draft Darko Milichik, I understand that. But the person that should have been drafted number two overall behind LeBron James in 2003 should have been Carmelo Anthony. Why? Because I think about what Bobby Knight once said about Michael Jordan, draft Michael Jordan number one. They said, what if you need a center? He said, draft Michael Jordan and play him at center. Because that's how great Michael Jordan was. And I think with Carmelo Anthony, considering the discrepancy that existed between a Darko and a Carmelo, you don't worry about the fact that you got Tayshawn Prince as your three. You grab Carmelo Anthony and you think about the future of the franchise. That's just me. Joe Dumas guided them to like six conference, consecutive conference finals in an NBA and back to back NBA finals appearances and won a championship with Larry Brown as his coach. I'm not here to impugn the greatness and the reputation of Joe Dumas. I'm just saying that's the one blemish. Because Carmelo Anthony was that special. And even though he doesn't have a championship on his resume in the NBA, you'll be hard pressed to find too many people that are more respected and loved as Carmelo Anthony. And you're looking at somebody that's got a whole lot of love for Carmelo Anthony. I bring that up because it's, it's very, very important to understand and appreciate how he and Cayenne's mother, Lala, the wonderful Lala Anthony, have handled their son. I'm not talking about the sons doing anything wrong. I'm not talking about Bronnie doing anything wrong. I'm not talking about Kion doing anything wrong. I'm talking about how the. How Carmelo Anthony handled it. So coming onto the college scene, they know questions about Kaya. We want to see what he gonna do and whether or not he's gonna emulate his daddy, who, by the way, has the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball center, the arena, named after him. Named after him. He's going to the university. He's going to the university where his father has a basketball center named after him, where his father is the only person in the history of the school to deliver a national championship. You have any idea how much pressure comes with that? Not only does he not care. I'm talking about Cayenne. Not only does he not care, not only is he not looking forward to the ch, is he looking forward to the challenge. There's no one out there who expects him to fail because his game is not a question mark. See the difference? See where I'm going? Bronny James. I'm rooting for him. Wonderful family, great kid. He has done nothing wrong. LeBron James, one of the top two players in the history of basketball. He's on the Mount Rushmore. He did nothing intentionally wrong, but he publicly stated he wanted to play with his son in the NBA and then publicly made it happen. And so, as a result, the criticism that has come Bronny's way has been excessive, and it has been unfair, and it has been cruel. But who instigated was LeBron. LeBron. Guess what, ladies and gentlemen? Absolutely pun intended. All he had to do was be mellow. It's the one time in LeBron's basketball life he should have been mellow. Pun intended. Don't say much. Do all you can to help his game grow, and then step back and let his game speak for him. So when he's elevated, no one has anything to say but, damn, that's his son. This brother, Cayenne hasn't played the college game yet. He's going to Syracuse. And all of us are sitting there looking at him. With the evaluation process that has taken place, with what scouts have seen, with the way his game has been dissected, we're expecting him to be an extension of his daddy. A six, five score machine with a jab step with a pull up with a setup with a J with a three. Who's smooth. Listen to the things that they say. It sounds just like, mellow. And they're the ones saying this, not mellow. They're the ones doing the talking. Not mellow. Mellow went out of his way, didn't even want to be a part of the whole recruiting process. Praying that he would go to Syracuse, but didn't want to play a role in influencing his son. So he said, yo, go ahead, you go to USC and talk to Auburn and whomever, but I gotta stay out of it. And his son ended up going to the school his father starred at, determined to make his own name. And he's saying, yo, look at all my father has done, but I'm coming. He has single handedly turned Syracuse basketball into a box office commodity. And he hasn't even started there yet. Because I can't wait to see him now, because I want to see when he goes to practice at the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball center and he's playing at the Dome in front of 40,000 people or something, is he gonna be that dude? They're saying he got a ch. They're saying it, not Carmelo. He's just a proud papa. He didn't influence anything. He just got his son ready and made it happen. Why am I telling y'all this? Because I'm in the media and I know what's coming. And eventually the opposite is going to be coming in Bronnie's direction because of the process that unfolded. And it's all going to fall at the doorsteps of LeBron James because he dictated a process instead of letting it play itself out. I'm telling y'all what I know, not trying to be negative, not trying to. LeBron did nothing intentional to hurt his son, but it hurt nevertheless because of how he handled it. He should have been mellow. He should have been mellow. Are you watching football games on your phone, Billy? Making out the names of the players on their jerseys and wishing you were at the game? Game Time Foreign let's move on to some college football and talk about two teams fighting for a spot in the College Football Playoff real quick, please. Colorado and Alabama. We'll start with Colorado with a chance for Deion Sanders and the Buffs and took a big hit after Kansas of all teams beat them Saturday 37 to 21. Colorado's record is now 6 and 2 and they'll need help to reach the conference title game. The Buffaloes were destroyed on the ground as the jails rushed for 331 yards on 57 carries. As for Alabama, they were blown out by Oklahoma 243 and their third loss of the season. Quarterback Jalen Miller through three interceptions and completed less than half of his passes for the Crimson Tide. Let me say this about Colorado first before I get into Alabama. Here's the biggest problem. Two things with Colorado. Dion not having some hogs on the offensive, on the line of scrimmage, offensively or defensively, you giving up 330, 300 plus yards rush at 331 yards. In this particular case, people can run all over you. You gotta have some. You gotta have some big boys up in there and it's gonna be pretty difficult for him to get them to Colorado. So I think that plays a role. But here's the biggest thing that plays a role. Too many damn dudes on the team think they prime time. Your coach is prime time, not you. Deion Sanders is the greatest cornerback in NFL history and arguably the greatest athlete in American history. Played basketball, played baseball, play football, play football in the NFL while he was playing Major League Baseball. Play for the Braves, play for the Yankees. Deion Sanders is as elite as they come and a winner wherever he goes. All American at Florida State. Special teams Wide receiver, cornerback in The NFL as a player. The brothers all world, y'all are not. Well, maybe Travis Hunter is because that brother is special, but y'all are not. And because all this hype and this hoopla and this Sean that was thrown on the press and thrown on the organization, you got cats walking around there acting like you did something you ain't done. He has. That's why Deion Sanders went up there in the post game and said, yo, cats were feeling themselves. Your coach is the hall of Famer. Your coach was the all world player. Your coach was the marquee, the box office attraction, not you. You lost to Nebraska. Now you've lost to Kansas. That's how it goes. That's their problem. When they were 30 last year, they were feeling themselves and they got their behinds kicked six straight weeks and seven to eight weeks to close out the season. This year significantly, much better. But the minute we start acknowledging it, getting you set for a Big 12 championship game and a probable birth in the college football playoffs, you go and you lose to a team that already had five, six losses on the season. Kansas, 331 yards, Russian. Y'all ain't prime. You're coached by prime. Somebody needed to tell y'all that. That's why I'm reminding you. The other story is Alabama, ladies and gentlemen. If Alabama fans protested and demanded the program fire Kaylin DeBoer and they got on their hands and knees and protested outside the gates of ESPN to insist that Nick Saban be let go from college football game day so he could return as coach at Alabama, I wouldn't blame him. I mean, damn. It's bad enough you lost a Vanderbilt for the first time in 40 years. It's bad enough you had two losses, but then you gonna turn around and lose to Oklahoma and by the way, score three points, that's the most points. That's the least amount of points Alabama's been held to since 2004 against South Carolina. That's one of the worst losses they've had in decades. I mean, this is just embarrassing. Caleb Boyd comes from Washington, comes from the Pac12, two time Pac12 coach of the year. You've won wherever you've gone, but clearly you're comfortable with finesse. Because when you got to go against Hogs and Rough Riders and you got some yourself, and for some reason you can't figure out how to utilize them, what does that make you? Jaylen Milroy? Your, your, your, your chances at a Heisman are over. You ain't getting that scratch that dream and DeBoer succeeded Nick Saban. Where's the attention to detail, ladies and gentlemen? This is Oklahoma we're talking about. They ain't that damn good. They ain't that damn good. Lincoln Rally ain't coaching there no more. And even before then, it's been damn near decades before. You heard defense and Oklahoma football mentioned in the same breath, but they hold Alabama to three points. This is bad. It's very bad. I just wanted to say that, okay, if Kaylin DeBoer was succeeding, anybody else, we gotta stomach it and live with it. There's no way that a Nick Saban team would have allowed that to happen yesterday. There's no way that a Nick Saban team is walking against, walking on the field against Oklahoma and they scoring three points. That is horrible. Horrible. I'm not saying Dale in the boy can't Caitlin DeBoer can't coach. I'm not saying that he doesn't belong coaching on an elite level in college football. But maybe Alabama was the wrong program for him. Maybe he should have succeeded somebody like Brian Kelly at LSU or Jimbo Fisher, Texas A and M or something like that. Or maybe he should have gone to Florida State and to succeed Norville so Dion could come to some place like the sec, assuming he's going to be able to recruit them hogs that you need to block on your offensive line and to get after the quarterback on the defensive line. But outside of that, when I look at deboer succeeding Nick Saban appears to be too much for him. And we're seeing the results. Alabama is not going to be playing for the SEC championship and they ain't gonna make the playoffs either. We wouldn't have even thought about that kind of catastrophe taking place if Nick Saban was still here. And that man is over 70. What the hell is going on? What's going on? The Menendez brothers head to court seeking a release nearly 30 years after killing their parents. Plus Diddy himself, Sean P. Diddy Cones awaits word on Bailey in this federal sex trafficking and racketeering case. All that and more coming up right here on the Stephen A. Smith Show. Don't go away.

Some people won't give you the real talk on drugs, but it's time we know the facts. Fentanyl is often laced into illicit drugs and used to make fake versions of prescription pills. You can't see it, taste it or smell it. Suppliers mix fentanyl into their products because.

Welcome back to the Stephen A. Smith Show. I've waited a while to talk about this next subject because to be quite honest with you, it's, it's kind of boggled my mind, I have to admit. In Los Angeles, where I'm at at this particular moment in time, the Menendez brothers are set to appear in court today for a status hearing to consider new evidence in the trial that sent them to prison for the rest of their lives without parole. The brothers were convicted of double murder for killing their parents with a shotgun back in 1989 in Beverly Hills. Both Lyle and Eric Menendez admitted to the murders but claimed they were committed in self defense for a lifetime of abuse, including sexual abuse by their father. As for the new evidence, the attorneys want to present a letter Eric wrote to his cousin detailing his father's alleged abuse. They also want to present allegations from a former member of the boy band Menudo who says he was allegedly raped by the Menendez boys father as well. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm kind of old school with things like this and I for an eye, you take a life, you sacrifice your own. If it's murder, self defense is a different matter altogether. So I understand the trepidation. In some people's eyes. You have people who say, you know, They've served nearly 35 years in jail already and because of that they have paid their debt to society. Well, who told you that there are people who are in jail for the rest of their lives because they've killed someone. In this case, a couple of people were killed and where I try to be somewhat sympathetic in terms of understanding, because if their father indeed was molesting them and sexually abusing them, I'm not going to be irresponsible by saying that he deserved what he got because I'm not going to condone murder. But I will say I'm not shedding any tears for him. Let. Let the Lord deal with his soul. What I will say, however, is that how do you explain killing the mother? I've heard nobody ask that question. Was the mother sexually abusing you? Maybe you should have felt she should have done more. Assuming that you're telling the truth, which I don't know, but maybe you're saying she should have done more. But the point is, was the mom sexually abusing you? Because if the mom wasn't sexually abusing you, which kill her. For now, ladies and gentlemen, I had my researcher look something up for me and I want to read you the details of the murder for a second. In 1989, Eric and Lyle Menendez bought a pair of shotguns with cash, walked into their home and shot their parents. While the parents were watching a movie in the family living room. Prosecutors said Jose Menendez was struck five times, including in the back of the head. And Kitty Menendez, the mom, crawled on the floor, wounded before the brothers reloaded and fired a final fatal blast. During their trials, prosecutors repeatedly showed horrific images of shattered features of Kitty Menendez. Shattered features of Kitty Menendez while her husband was on a blood soaked sofa after being blasted at close range. Prosecutors would argue the slings were driven by greed and the brothers desire to get their parents multi million dollar estate. But during the trials, Eric and Lyle Mendez Menendez detailed what they said were years of violent sexual abuse at the hands of their father. Which brings me back to my point. What that got to do with the mother? See, if you had just done that to your dad and you served nearly 35 years in prison, perhaps the argument could be made favorably towards you getting out now because he directly abused you. To be rhetorical, I ask again, what does that have to do with the mom? I don't get it, y'all. I'm not losing sleep over whatever way the decision sways or whatever. I'm just saying I. I'm not, I'm not seeing that you reloaded and shot mom. And then you go down the list here. Key events in the timeline of the Menendez brothers. Jose Menendez, an executive at RCA Records in Los Angeles and his wife Kitty Menendez was shot and killed in their Beverly Hills mansion. That was in August of 1989. In March of 1990, Lyle Menendez, then 21, is arrested. It 18 year old Eric Menendez turns himself in. A few days later, they're accused of first degree murder. July of 1993. More than three years later, the Menendez brothers go on trial, each with a separate jury. Prosecutors argue that they killed their parents for financial gain. The brothers attorneys don't dispute the pair killed their parents, but argue that they acted out of self defense after years of emotional and sexual abuse by their father. Again, not the mother. In January of 1994, both juries deadlocked. October 1995. More than a year and a half later, the brother's retrial begins. This time with a single jury. Much of the defense evidence about alleged sexual abuse is excluded during the second trial. March of 1996, just about six months later, jurors convict both brothers of first degree murder. July of 1996, the brothers are sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. May of 2023. Fast forward attorneys for the Menendez brothers asked the court to reconsider the conviction and sentence in light of new evidence from a former member of the boy band Menudo who said he was raped by Jose Menendez when he was 14. In addition, they submit a letter that Eric wrote about his father's abuse prior to the killings. September. This past September, Netflix releases the crime drama Monsters the Lyle and Eric Menendez Story, a nine episode series about the killings. October 2024. The D A says his office is reviewing new evidence in a case. October 16th. Two weeks later, multiple generations of family members from the Menendez brothers hold a news conference pleading for their release from prison. The relatives say the jurors who sentenced them to life without parole in 1996 were part of a society that was not ready to hear that boys could be raped. And then. October 25, DA petitions the court to resentence the brothers, which could lead to their release again. They're currently serving life in prison without parole in California. I go back again. The father, the father, the father, Rape, rape, rape. The father, the father, the father, rape. What about the mother? See, that's where they stay in prison. If it were me, the father's one case. How do you explain the mother? Especially when you recharge. You rearmed and shot her while she crawled on the ground. How do you explain the mother? Meanwhile, Sean Diddy Combs is awaiting word on bail following a third attempt by his lawyers to get him out of ahead of his Federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial. The judge set a deadline of noon Easter for the defense and prosecution to file letters fleshing out their argument. Initially made last Friday. Prosecutors contend that Combs made a concerted effort from behind bars to disrupt the case. Meanwhile, defense attorney say Combs is not a threat and say he should be released under round the clock surveillance at an apartment on Manhattan's Upper east side. Here's my thing. The only reason to deny Sean Diddy Cones bail in my estimation, is if you're fearful of witness tampering. If you're not fearful, two things. Fearful of witness tampering and fearful of him leaving the country. If those two things can be alleviated as it pertains to a concern, then to me, he should have a good chance of getting bail. See, I think that when you're in prison, you should be in prison. I think that when you are a danger to society, your ass should be locked up and you stay there. If there is apprehension, if there's a huge question mark rather as to whether or not that is the case before a conviction. I'm talking about before conviction now, where there's still the presumption of innocence, because this is America, the presumption of innocence before guilt. My attitude is, are those two things of huge concern? If they are and you think that you have a profounder case against them, which prosecutors obviously do, then this has got to stay in jail. But if you can take away his means to his leave the country, if you can monitor him in a way where you can police him, potentially trying to influence witnesses, if those are concerns that can be alleviated, then the question is how much of a problem should we have with Sean Diddy Combs being home until his trial? They're going to argue he's worth more than a half a billion dollars. He has the means to leave the country, has the means to influence witnesses and stuff like that. And again, nobody's here to argue that. I'm not arguing for the man as if he's innocent as opposed to guilt, I don't know. Only thing I know is that what I saw in that video with him and his ex girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, other than that I know nothing. But I do think it's worth asking the question, particularly with the paucity of space available in the jail cells, if somebody has guilt has not been established as of yet. Do you keep them in jail before trial? Anyway, I've always had a question mark about that. Now, I'm not talking about Sean Diddy Combs right now. I'm talking about in general. I've always had this one issue. If we live in a country that says you're innocent until proven guilty, why are you incarcerated before your guilt has been established and proven and validated? Is it just me? Is that not a fair question? Why are you in jail awaiting trial, your innocence having not been substantiated, or your guilt, rather? But you're behind bars. What am I missing? I'm just asking. I'm just asking. I've always said to myself, if you're innocent, ain't you supposed to be free until you're found guilty? At least in some cases. Cases involving extreme violence and stuff like that. I understand the exception. Danger to society. I get that. But I'm just saying in general, I've always had an issue with somebody being incarcerated before their trials. That's just me. That's it for this edition of the Stephen A. Smith Show. I gotta get on out of here. I hope y'all enjoyed the show. Look forward to talking to y'all in a couple of days. Until next time, everybody, I'm signing off. I'm out of here. I'll speak to you soon. The Stephen A. Smith Show – Detailed Summary Episode: Cris Carter discusses OchoCinco's bizarre URINE ritual and recaps NFL Week till in JAIL Release Date: November 25, 2024
Duration: 00:00 – 09:22
The episode kicks off with a humorous and somewhat gross discussion about Chad Johnson, also known as Ocho Cinco, and his unconventional method for preventing injuries—using teammates' urine to treat ankle sprains. Stephen A. Smith introduces the topic with a clip of Chad Johnson explaining his unique remedy:
Chad Johnson (00:07): "I collect warm urine from my teammates, heat it up, and put my ankle in it for 30 minutes. Yeah, that worked."
Chris Carter adds to the amusement by highlighting the impracticality and hygiene concerns of such a practice:
Chris Carter (03:59): "Enough that comes above the ankle, you know, warm it up."
The conversation evolves into a critique of Ocho Cinco's method, questioning the safety and efficacy of allowing other people's urine to enter one's pores:
Chad Johnson (04:01): "Letting other people's urine get into you... that's just nasty."
Despite the skepticism, Chris Carter defends Chad Johnson's determination and loyalty, acknowledging their long-standing friendship:
Chris Carter (06:45): "I love you, Ocho. You know that, bro. We go back a long ways, but damn, this son different, bro."
Duration: 09:22 – 15:53
The discussion shifts to NFL Week 12, focusing on Saquon Barkley's standout performance and his position as a leading MVP candidate. Chris Carter praises Barkley's versatility and impact on the Philadelphia Eagles:
Chris Carter (09:52): "He is one of the rare players in the NFL who can score anywhere on the field. His confidence is at an all-time high."
Chad Johnson underscores Barkley's role in making the Giants look weak by comparison:
Chad Johnson (12:11): "Saquon Barkley is doing his thing and he is an MVP candidate. And they are in football purgatory."
Duration: 15:53 – 20:36
The conversation delves into the poor performance of the New York Giants, highlighting their record, management decisions, and the impact on the team's prospects. Chris Carter criticizes the leadership and lack of strategic planning:
Chris Carter (13:30): "They need a total face. The Giants are getting what they deserve."
Chad Johnson elaborates on the Giants' dismal track record over the past 13 years:
Chad Johnson (14:02): "They have been horrible. Their record is like 78-127-1."
The hosts discuss potential changes in the organization's hierarchy, suggesting that key figures like the GM might lose their positions due to the team's continued underperformance.
Duration: 15:53 – 20:36
Chad Johnson questions Kansas City's durability in the Super Bowl race, expressing skepticism about their ability to sustain success:
Chad Johnson (17:22): "How many damn close games are they going to be able to absorb before it ultimately bites them?"
Chris Carter counters by highlighting Mahomes' exceptional talent and leadership:
Chris Carter (18:08): "Patrick Mahomes is the best player and the best coach. If Kansas City can get to the playoffs, there's nobody talking about letting them fail."
However, Chad Johnson remains unconvinced, predicting a different Super Bowl outcome:
Chad Johnson (19:59): "If I had to pick the winner of the Super Bowl right now, it would be Kansas City against Detroit. I would pick Detroit."
Duration: 49:30 – 64:27
The latter part of the episode tackles the high-profile case of the Menendez brothers, who are seeking a release after nearly 35 years in prison for the murder of their parents. Chad Johnson provides a comprehensive overview of the case timeline and the new evidence being presented:
Chad Johnson (50:33): "The brothers were convicted of double murder, claiming self-defense after years of abuse by their father."
He questions the validity of their claims and the disproportionate punishment, especially regarding the murder of their mother:
Chad Johnson (64:27): "What does that have to do with the mom? They killed her while claiming self-defense against their father."
Chris Carter weighs in with skepticism, emphasizing the need for accountability despite alleged abuses:
Chris Carter (64:30): "I don't get it, y'all. I'm not shedding any tears for him. Let the Lord deal with his soul."
The hosts debate the implications of the new evidence and the potential for reevaluation of the brothers' sentences, highlighting the complexities of the justice system in cases involving alleged abuse.
Duration: 64:27 – 65:08
The episode also touches upon Sean "Diddy" Combs' ongoing federal case involving sex trafficking and racketeering. Chad Johnson discusses the attempts to secure bail for Diddy:
Chad Johnson (64:30): "If you're not fearful of witness tampering or him leaving the country, then he should have a good chance of getting bail."
Chris Carter adds his perspective on pre-trial incarceration and the presumption of innocence:
Chris Carter (64:30): "If you're innocent, aren't you supposed to be free until you're found guilty?"
The hosts engage in a broader discussion about the fairness of the bail system and the balance between ensuring public safety and upholding individual rights.
Duration: 26:03 – 34:45
Concluding the episode, Chad Johnson and Chris Carter focus on the news of Cayenne Anthony, the son of NBA star Carmelo Anthony, committing to Syracuse University. They draw parallels between Cayenne and his father’s illustrious basketball career, setting high expectations for his performance:
Chad Johnson (26:03): "Kion Anthony, a top 40 recruit, committed to Syracuse. He's the son of Carmelo Anthony, a legendary scorer."
Chris Carter highlights Cayenne's impressive high school stats and his potential to follow in his father's footsteps:
Chris Carter (26:03): "He averaged 19.6 points on a Nike EYBL circuit and has a natural soft touch with the ball."
The discussion emphasizes the pressure Cayenne faces due to his lineage but also acknowledges his talent and the support system provided by his family:
Chad Johnson (26:03): "Carmelo Anthony has handled their son with grace, preparing him to make his own mark at Syracuse."
Throughout this episode, Stephen A. Smith, alongside guest Chris Carter and co-host Chad Johnson, navigates a blend of humorous anecdotes, critical sports analysis, and serious legal discussions.
